Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has
not helped you conjure up the stolen data tapes.
I've given you clairvoyance enough to find the
rebels hidden fort. I find your lack of faith
disturbing. Mars, Iceland, spaceport. You will
never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.
We must be cautious. I have a bad feeling about
this. I've got a bad feeling about this. No,
I have a bad feeling about this. I have a very
bad feeling about this. I got a bad feeling about
this. I have a bad feeling about this. Bart,
I have a bad feeling about this. I have a really
bad feeling about this. Hello and welcome to
Geekcast radio special episodes getting ready
for Star Wars as we have been at the website
here going through the month of December getting
ready for the release and We're gonna continue
our top 10 countdowns and today we're switching
it up and we're gonna do a different topic and
different group of people here so we're talking
about quotes or moments of dialogue and It's
a lot to cover just looking at six movies, and
to help me along with that project, returning
Mr. Fridley Cent. Hello. Hello. Long time no
talk. Yeah. I... illustrious. Illustrious? I'm
elusive. That's the one I am. Yes, that's better.
I'm bold. But I mean, who better to be on this
record than yourself and your vast knowledge
of the Star Wars universe, correct? Uh, yeah.
In fact, when you texted me to say, hey, we're
doing the top ten lists of the Star Wars films,
I was like, all nine? Because there are nine
Star Wars films that people don't recognize three
of them. Right. But yeah, I mean, you have a
great knowledge of not just the films, but of...
all things Star Wars, whether it be books or
the TV series, comic books, toys. I mean, you
know a little bit of just about every arena of
Star Wars, correct? Yeah, yeah. It's been my
number one devotion since I was like five. Right.
So I think we're going to get some interesting
quotes here because as you and I were discussing
off air, for people like... Like you, myself,
and all the legions of Star Wars fans, you could
easily come up with a top 10 list for every single
film, probably. Yeah, easy. I mean, it would
be a tiny bit harder maybe in one or two of the
films. But some of these films are just treasure
troves of great quotes, great moments when it
comes to the dialogue. So I'm very interested
to see where we go with this. And actually, when
I was compiling mine, I was surprised with which
films and I ended up with the most quotes from
and kind of to bounce off that. Did you have
any criteria or anything that you were kind of
giving more as you're trying to narrow this focus
down and only land on 10? Did you use anything
to help you out? There are two things I tried
to keep in mind. One, I didn't... Well, I guess
there's three. The first one is it can't all
be Han Solo. Because seriously, Han Solo usually
has the best lines in any scene. Like, that was
in the back of the mind. I wanted to give credence
to all of the movies. I did end up with at least
one from every movie. And I didn't wanna go with
just the most obvious ones, right? Like, you
don't wanna have, I don't even wanna throw them
out there in case you have them. But I mean,
there are some of them that are probably overdone.
And some of them that are too, I don't know,
general, like half said by half the cast. But
maybe that's the thing you wanna do, I don't
know. Well, I kind of try to do that. I'm gonna
have some of those maybe on there. I guess they
always call it like the little memorialist. So
it's the may the force be with you memorialist
for me. I'm not gonna that's too obvious for
me. But I'm gonna have a little bit of a mixture
in mind. There's gonna be some obvious ones,
but I tried to get some that were a little bit
more off the beaten path. But man, some of them
are just so iconic with what they make you feel
and what they make you think about when you hear
it that it's hard to avoid it. I did try to be
like you. I tried to, as much as I could, to
get a quote from every film. I do have one film
that I don't have a quote from, but I have the
rest of them represented, so that was the best
I could do. But I also tried to get a variety
of characters, for the most part, because it
was, like you said, with Han Solo, you could
almost say the same thing with Yoda. You could
have 10 Yoda quotes easily on this list, so I
tried to get a few other voices heard from as
best as I could. Anything else we want to get
out of the way before we get to our number 10?
No? All right. Well, I will start off and we'll
kind of just bounce back and forth. That way
you can give your final reveal at the end of
the number one go last. But for my number 10,
I guess I just contradicted myself in a way because
I said I don't want to do all Yoda quotes and
I'm going to start with one. But it's one that
I don't think is his most famous quote and I
don't think it's one that comes to everybody's
mind first. I think there's probably three or
four that you would get to before this one. But
the Yoda quote I'm talking about comes from episode
three. Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice
for those around you who transform into the Force.
Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment
leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed, that
is. What must I do, Master Yoda? Train yourself
to let go of everything you fear to lose. So
this quote just kind of hit me for a couple different
things. I mean obviously Yoda says a lot of kind
of deep and impactful things that are supposed
to resonate especially in his different conversations
with both Luke in the original trilogy as well
with a few with like Obi -Wan and Anakin kind
of in the prequel trilogy and this one obviously
talking to Anakin but something about just that
whole idea of dealing with group because we've
talked you know he talks about fear and anger
and all that other stuff and some of the more
classic ones but in this one he kind of touched
directly with Grief and death and mourning and
for some reason it just hit me a little bit more
It resonated a little bit more with me, especially
that last part with train yourself to let go
of everything you fear to lose Which is just
something that would be Like super hard for anybody
to do So I don't know what your thoughts of that
little moment in episode 3 were but it just kind
of was a more kind of subtle One of Yoda's like
words of wisdom that kind of stuck with me It
really shows just how impossible it is to be
a Jedi Like it's it's literally a lifelong pursuit
that almost everyone fails at Yeah, I mean just
just that last line just trying to wrap your
head around what he's saying. It's like what?
That's almost a complete contradiction of what
you're asking me to do but hey, it's Yoda and
There's never been anybody wiser in the world
of Star Wars. I don't think so Where do you go
with your number ten? My number 10 is one that
I don't know. I think it's it's probably the
weakest one. That's why it's my number 10 but
of all of the lines in Episode 3 it was the one
that stuck with me probably the most which is
when Padme says So this is how liberty dies With
thunderous applause And we were going through
some political stuff back then When that first
hit and I know a lot of people were quoting that
and saying, you know like quoting that in news
reports and stuff about various things like the
right and like, you know Like that kind of spoils
a little bit, but at the same time, it's a great
line I think it's another one and I'm gonna save
some thoughts on this possibly for later, but
but Yeah, this is another one that kind of fits
with mine a little bit, even more to a greater
extent because it's of the subtlety. It's just
kind of that it's almost like a throwaway line,
but it so isn't. Yeah, yeah. It speaks to like
just volumes of what's to come in the Star Wars
universe that the characters may not know, but
we all do know. No, that is for sure a great
choice that I agree with 100 percent. For my
number nine I will jump into the original trilogy
and hey I had to try to find a way to get some
type of stormtrooper quote involved and this
is the only way I can seem to think that that
would work. It's also a way to get Obi -Wan Kenobi
and I think everybody knows where I'm going with
this one. We don't need to see his identification.
These aren't the droids you're looking for. These
aren't the droids we're looking for. You can
go about his business. You can go about your
business. Move along. Move along. Move along.
For people that saw the original trilogy first
not obviously for people that see the the prequel
trilogy and then kind of grow up in reverse order
but for us that saw it in the order of Chronological
release this is one of the first times where
we really see the power of the Jedi mind trick
just used on unsuspecting people and I just remember
as a kid when I saw this not not only was it
funny And it has a sense of humor to it, but
it was like, wow, he's capable of basically getting
anybody to do anything he wants up to a certain
extent. And it just was an eye -opening moment
as you go through that trilogy and kind of just
seeing what exactly being a Jedi consists of.
So I always kind of just like that little, even
though it's been used a billion different times
and parodied and... you know, that type of thing.
I do think it's more than just a funny exchange.
It means a little bit more to what a Jedi means
overall. What about you? What do you think about
that one? It's interesting. You talked about
it being parodied, and I think the first time
it's used in the prequel trilogy is when Qui
-Gon tries to do the T 'Wado, and he's like,
that doesn't work on me. And so, like, they even
parodied it itself, in itself. But it's... a
fear that a lot of people have, like in the beginning
of episode one, Newt Gunray's like, we can't
let them get to the bridge, they'll just change
our minds with their Jedi powers. So for the
people that are aware of the Jedi, it's a big
fear. And it's kind of a terrifying thought,
it's a good thing the Jedi are positive and Sith
are not high in number. Right, but I think it
also kind of has some maybe thematic elements
to it as well, it's kind of just the building
of this idea of a Jedi or the idea of a wiser
group of people, a more intelligent section of
the population, and how they can have the ability
to somewhat manipulate those that aren't strong
enough to kind of combat with that. So, I mean,
I think you can kind of, if you want to go deep
with it, you can kind of look at that angle,
too. Well, I mean, that's the whole prequel trilogy
is Palpatine manipulating people. And yeah, and
he's clearly seen as the wise old man the whole
time. Yep. All right, where do you go for your
number nine, sir? My number nine is one that
I don't know. I wanted to put it in because it's
one of my favorite quotes. It's kind of a joke.
Everyone kind of mocks it. And it's also, I think,
my last episode 3 -1, which was during the final
fight when Obi -Wan says... Only a Sith deals
in absolutes. Just dealing out a big heavy absolute
there, right? Like I find that it's one of those
things where it's like Was it done on accident?
Was it just like this is a dumb line, but we
need to have this out there You know, he's like
is it a moment of passion? Or is it to show that
no one is a hundred percent good like even obi
-wan Says that this is a thing of the dark side,
but I'm doing it, too I don't know. Is it a deep,
meaningful line? Is it a joke? I don't know.
I like it. Yeah, I like the line, too. I guess
I never really necessarily saw it as a joke,
but maybe... I don't know. It's a line that's
in the midst of a lot of other dialogue pieces
that really, for me, make that last 30 to 45
minutes of episode 3 pretty memorable and more
on par with... the original trilogy for me. It's
kind of that half of the film that really connects
to those. Obviously there's a lot of visual cues
to the original trilogy. But I think just even
with some of the writing, it kind of goes back
to that. And there's just a lot of quotable moments
in those last 30 to 45 minutes, whether you're
talking about the interchange between Obi -Wan
and Anakin, or when Yoda and the Emperor are
having some interchange. I think there's a lot
of good stuff there in that last part of that
film. All right. For my number eight, I am kind
of going classic again. straight back to where
I was last time sticking to episode four and
that is a quote that comes from Darth Vader but
again just like my last one also does involve
old Ben and that's obviously when they have their
confrontation and you hear Darth Vader say I've
been waiting for you Obi -Wan we meet again at
last Maybe not the best line for a lot of people,
but I just like the whole idea, especially after
seeing the prequel trilogy, of seeing these two
individuals face to face again. And it means
a lot more after the prequels. It was a good
line in and of itself just to begin with and
you kind of get the sense you know that they
had a past but you didn't really see it until
you got to see especially what happens in episode
three and I just kind of like that whole full
circle moment and how Darth Vader kind of goes
with that and then of course old Ben being the
wise person himself always has the comeback just
like the quote you were talking about back in
episode three. It's just immediately, Kenobi
is right there with the retort, I guess. So I
just kind of, I liked that meeting of the minds
after so long being apart. Yeah, I don't know,
that line, just hearing it sends a shiver down
my spine. Like it's like one of the most iconic
moments in a series of iconic moments. in a franchise
of iconic moments. But yeah, the circle is complete.
Obviously, we hear that all the time. It's even
in the intro for talking in circles. So there,
I made a shout out for you, Dan. What about your
number eight, Matt? My number eight... One of
the obvious choices, Han Solo Empire Tracks Back.
I don't know, this was my latest addition to
the list. I was like, you know what, I need to
have at least one of those. I guess two. It's
so Han Solo. It's so everyone though because
that's that's like from the very beginning just
like, you know, oh, it's only three meters Yeah,
I could shoot a rat. I did that before like it's
just like always these the lead characters and
any of the Star Wars movies like have hubris
to them That they just they don't need you to
tell them odds. They're gonna just do it And
this is one of the ones that made my first draft
too, and another thing about this one is that
it's only two lines, but in two lines, one of
them tells you everything you need to know about
C3PO, and the other one tells you everything
you need to know about Han Solo. For sure. So,
I mean it's just a... a very effective line and
a very efficient line so you get the you know
the technical jargon from C3PO trying to tell
the odds and then of course Han Solo's retort
so I think it's a great encapsulating moment
for those two and it was real close to making
my list so I'm definitely in agreement with that
one. For my number seven I'm gonna go back to
episode three I guess we're spending a lot of
time there and this one's a rather simple one
I did not actually think about this one Making
my list at all until I was kind of going through
the last time and I I thought about the impact
it had when I heard it and Just the gut feeling
that you get when you hear that and then when
you associate with with what happens next after
it and it's simply the Emperor and it's very
short line The time has come Execute order 66
Hmm and man it would just especially after you've
seen the film going back and rewatching that
every time you hear that you're just like This
is going down a very bad path right now and I'm
gonna see a bunch of stuff that I don't want
to see because nobody wants to see Jedi die and
Just the ominous feeling of such a short and
abrupt order It's a line that um seems innocuous
but has a resonance and a meaning to and like
you could say that to almost anyone on the streets
and they'll know exactly what you mean right
and that's saying something coming from the last
movie to come out um of course barring the clone
wars cartoon um that like a lot of people didn't
even see like the the viewership for episode
three was a massive drop off after the first
two but still it has that impact everywhere and
it wasn't just like you know even though it's
the same line it wasn't just like comparable
to saying you know destroy that planet or shoot
that thing or fire or you know it was so there's
so many different levels in the fact that you
have to see I don't know how many times my trivia
is a little bit rusty I don't know how many times
that's repeated in that film yeah but you know
it's at least five or six times that you get
to hear it over and over and over again and then
immediately watch disaster happen, so it definitely
leaves an impact for me. What about your number
seven? My number seven. My number seven is probably
a line that most people don't even remember,
but it's right after Han Solo becomes unfrozen
from carbonite, and he meets up with Chewbacca,
and Chewbacca informs him on what's going on,
and he's like, woof! looks crazy he can't even
take care of himself much less rescue anybody
a jedi knife i'm out of it for a little while
everybody gets illusions of grandeur i love that
line it's such a great line like yeah and it
just like i the whole job of the hot scene where
it's just like, okay, let's try this, that didn't
work, let's try this, that didn't work, let's
try this. It's so great of just foibling their
way through it, how much of it was planned, how
much of it didn't go as planned. Maybe it was
what they wanted to happen the whole time. I
don't think it was. Yeah, I love that line. I
love the delivery of the line, the context of
it, and again, Han Solo has so many great lines,
and that is definitely one I... strongly considered.
So great pick there. I'm going to stay with Han
Solo for my number six. And this one probably
would not make anybody's list of like actual
like deep or thematic or impactful lines or quotes.
It's just funny. And for some reason, out of
all of the quotable lines in this franchise,
somehow I quote this one more than any other
one. And I don't quite know why my mind does
that, but It's very simple, and it's just, again,
him and Chewie talking, I guess. I don't know
why, but I say that, like, once a month, at least.
Well, you got bearded friends. And sometimes
it's completely not even doesn't even match up
with who I'm saying it to or what but it's just
always in my head like Anytime I hear somebody
laugh. I want to say that I don't know. I just
it's just a personal favorite It's probably not
as good good as any of the other quotes being
discussed today But because I like it so much
I had to put it on here. I got one like that
All right, where are you going for your number
six my number six? Obi -wan, I realize it's like
my list is like Two -thirds Obi -Wan and Han
Solo. Um, episode four. He's more machine than
man, twisted and evil. And I like that second
bit, like you always get the more machine, you
actually get more machine than man now, but it's
really more machine now than man, twisted and
evil. The twisted and evil part, um, I see there's
a lot of weird bits, um, you know. Star Wars
is huge worldwide and so everyone's got their
own little fan theories and had cannons and all
that right But one thing that someone has systematically
pointed out to me in the past was that there's
a deep -seated bigotry against droids and robots
and Star Wars and the idea of Obi -Wan Like saying,
you know, he's more machine and he's twisted
and he's evil like it almost is like he's twisted
evil because he's a machine right No, I can see
that. I mean, it's not there, it's not authorial
intent, as an English professor would say, but,
I mean, it helps make the case. And I don't know,
it's just, it's a solid line, where it's like,
yeah, this guy, you know, he was a Jedi Knight,
and now he's mostly robot, and he's evil, and
he's, you know, like, vice president. Yeah, but
also it's, you know, kind of just really symbolizing
that disconnect and the fact that... Because
of that he's it's like that Jedi is dead, you
know, there's nothing left of it whether there
is or not it's just Giving you that complete
disconnect in that line. So Yeah, I like that
one too for my number five. I'm gonna go completely
obvious This is one of my obvious ones. It's
on probably everybody's list. So I apologize
for being unoriginal, but again for me, this
is probably the number one most telling Line
or you know, I know we talked about the odds
one and how that says a lot about Han Solo But
I don't think any line tells you more about what
you need to know about Han Solo than His line
in response to Princess Leia saying I love you
I love you Like, who else? Who else in, like,
even in cinematic history outside of Han Solo
would say that? What's great is that, like, that's,
as far as I know, that's, like, one of the earliest
ad -libbed lines that got left in. Like, that's
what everyone points to when they go, this is
what good ad -libbing from a good actor does.
And it is perfect. It's just just so tells you
everything you need to know about Han Solo's
personality and It's just I don't know and and
as someone who doesn't necessarily love Princess
Leia I I find it even more rewarding for myself
Wow, but I absolutely love Princess Leia personally,
but I think most people do I think yeah, I think
that's pretty common but I love and see that's
an empire but in Return of the Jedi a lot of
people gloss over the fact that they have the
same exchange but in reverse when they're busting
into the bunker and she's injured and like they
get they about to get captured for like the third
time and she pulls she shows them that he she
still has a gun and then they they have that
same exchange in reverse which I thought was
a great echoing of the previous gray line yeah
All right, what is your number five Matt my number
five? Is a whole dialogue I mean, I'm not gonna
I'm not gonna give you all of it But it's when
Anakin is first getting inspected by Yoda in
front of the Jedi Council Here is the path to
the dark side Fear leads to anger anger leads
to hate hate Leads to suffering. I think that
whole exchange where it's like you need to be
mindful like You know, we can tell that you're
afraid. You need to express that, you know, try
not to hide. Like, just the whole exchange, I
think. I mean, one, it speaks loads about Anakin,
but it also shows you, I don't know, a lot about
the Jedi and exactly where they're coming from
and why they don't want this older kid to be
trained. Right. I don't know, I really like that
bit. No, and then it is I'm glad you're talking
about the whole bit too because it would be easy
to just say You know the fear part and and the
kind of iconic Moment that Yoda has with that,
but it is much more than that. There's a lot
more things that are said in that That set piece
that that dialogue exchange that are just as
equally telling or just as equally impactful
about What like you're saying what Jedi stand
for but also? When you have the backdrop of knowing
what's gonna happen to Anakin It's almost that
much more gut -wrenching because you're like
you're hearing everything right now That would
have saved you Because you're gonna go and break
every single one of these pieces of advice that
Yoda's giving you and It just makes it kind of
hard to like, you know, it's almost like you
want to like reach through the screen and be
like no listen to what he's saying right now
like really pay attention because you're not
good at this but yeah i definitely agree with
that one it's amazing how different it would
have been if we had just gotten a linear six
movies like it's yeah the prequel trilogies are
so much better when viewed after the the original
For my number four I'm also going to kind of
a very similar thing than what you just did another
kind of dialogue exchange not just a line and
it's another one of Yoda's mentoring sessions
but instead of Anakin I'm going to go to his
mentoring sessions with Luke and there's so much
there throughout that whole exchange. Going from
the alright I'll give it a try no try not do
or do not there is no try to the I won't fail
you I'm not afraid and I love that last part
where he says you will be it's just Everything
about that, it's like the exact same setup now.
We had this with Anakin, we warned him, we told
him all the advice, and then we watched him go
off and, you know, fall down a different path.
Now we're going to do the exact same thing with
Luke and see what happens when he gets the advice.
But it's the same type of situation. You're dealing
with the same type of individual that's, you
know, super powerful and, you know, obviously
has high expectations about and, you know, lots
of things that they can accomplish. but also
has not, it's not someone that has control of
their emotions and has control of their feelings
and it's Yoda just doing his thing again, hopefully
at this point, obviously more successful than
what he did with Anakin, but there's a lot in
those pieces that are great little words of advice
and tidbits. I think that You Will Be might be
the most chilling line a Muppet has ever delivered.
Yeah. But I think it speaks I feel like I'm saying
the same things over and over again But it shows
the hubris of Luke Skywalker to be like I won't
be afraid. I'm not afraid and like Yoda's like
you're going to be because you're going to be
like he's seen it before and and you know Jedi's
for Centuries like he knows what's going on But
it's not about not being afraid, but it's about
like handling your fear and overcoming it And
it's another instance where you want to go through
the screen and shake Luke Skywalker and be like,
dude, you're talking to Yoda. Seriously. I can
see not taking Yoda seriously especially in that
one because you know an hour before he was like
stealing his Fig Newtons and big R2D2 up for
the light. Oh man. Hitting him with a stick.
We're getting ahead of ourselves. Alright that's
next week's episode. But what is your number
four sir? My number four it could be the whole
exchange but really I want to sum it down to
two words. Fly casual. Keep your distance though,
Chewie. But don't look like you're trying to
keep your distance. I don't know. Fly casual.
You said that laugh it up fuzzball is probably
the one you use the most. Fly casual is probably
the one I've heard the most. Right. I might get
that thrown at me. I'm the driver of all of my
groups of friends. And as most of us are Star
Wars fans, that one gets thrown at me quite a
lot. And I just love it, because it's a hard
concept to even wrap your mind around. It's as
tricky as any of Yoda's words. Like, I'm flying
a spaceship. For sure. For my number three...
You've already talked about it, so I won't go
into it too much detail a great minds think alike
I guess but it's just the one that you talked
about just a little bit ago with the whole fear
is the path to the dark side fear leads to anger
anger leads to hate hate leads to suffering etc
so it's the exact same thing I had with number
four except now this time with Anakin and Although
I think the one with Luke probably has more Like
more moments with throughout the dialogue that
I appreciate I think the moment that this one
has are maybe more powerful in a way. And I think
there's some subtle stuff that gets lost in this
one unfortunately, but I just think, like you
said, the whole exchange between him and the
young Anakin and kind of this little mentoring
session is just really memorable, obviously for
the most part with that one line that everybody
obviously quotes over and over again. What about
your number three, sir? My number three is another
conversation, which is really early in episode
two, when Obi -Wan and Anakin are in the elevator,
and they're talking like, you know, I haven't
felt you this tense since the Gundarks, and it's
like, you fell in, I had to save you. Like, that
exchange was what we needed more of in episode
two. By the end of episode three, we're supposed
to think that these two guys are best... friends
and they're inseparable and it's only like this
fear and jealousy that that makes them fight
and I don't think we get nearly enough of that
in episode two where you needed it but that was
the one that was the like that was definitely
the most intense like these are two buddies they've
been together for 10 years now which they have
and then they know each other's every move yeah
I think you hit the nail on the head there too
with probably episode two's biggest failings
is it really needed to act like that bridge um
whether regardless of what your feelings were
from episode one whether you like it whether
you don't like it whatever you know it still
gives us establishes the characters their backstory
and kind of where they come from but episode
two really needed to kind of be that bridge to
get us to the point where episode three didn't
seem so abrupt in a way, and so I do think that
there were some failings there and they did need
more of those exchanges, like you kind of got
a little bit at the beginning that then somewhat
disappeared and fade into love story territory
for the rest of the film, but yeah, I think that's
a good point. I didn't think about that one,
but that makes sense for sure. For my number
two, you're stealing all my thunder here because
you've already talked about my whole rest of
my list. No, you're good. my number two because
and I'm glad that you brought this up because
I always feel like I was the only one that liked
this line and it's honestly one of my favorite
lines from the entire franchise obviously since
it's at my number two and it is the one from
Padme so this is how liberty dies with thunderous
applause like that like when that happened when
I was in the theater and she said that I'm like
looking around and I just didn't feel like anybody
really heard what she said. Like I get that it
was used a lot and obviously people kind of clung
to it and used it for their own purposes but
I feel like in the context of the movie it's
so easy to miss and it's such a big statement
and it's also one that kind of goes back to a
different conversation from the previous film
where you have some other kind of conversations
of people as stuff is happening in the senate
uh... i can't remember exact the exact line but
there's another line that's really close to this
one that happens in the previous film talking
about the republic in the senate and stuff like
that and kind of leads a little bit to this but
just the whole idea that a group of people can
be kind of riled up to a point where They're
cheering and they're applaud, you know, they're
applauding for something that is not something
that should be Yeah taken so lightly and and
welcomed with open arms. It's like You know,
obviously we live in a time where it seems like
common sense that you know Oh, you know a dictatorship
or stuff like that is not something that we would
embrace but in a situation like this Then just
kind of the whole group think mentality that
you have going on here how easy it is for somebody
as smart as the Emperor to manipulate this whole
group into not only embracing something that
they shouldn't but applauding it and man I I
got chills when I heard that the first time and
every time I see this movie again, and I hear
it the same effect It's definitely one of the
most standout lines in the whole Revenge of the
Sith. And then what I think made it resonate
with me more personally was literally Revenge
of the Sith came out two days before I turned
18 and entered into politics, something I had
followed all my life because my parents are very
political people. Like, it had that resonating...
But I think, back to what you were saying, the
similar line in episode two, or at least one
thing that really came out of it was... Right
when he gets the emergency powers, he says something
like, I will gladly give up these emergency powers
as soon as the threat to the Republic has been
abated. And like, it's not even a real thing.
It's just Star Wars, but at the same time, whenever
I see that, I just want to yell like, no, you
won't! You're a liar! Who in the history of people
has done that? Like, outside of George Washington.
Stop it. This is BS. But yeah, so I like that
line. I'm in agreement with you, obviously. What's
your number two? My number two goes to Palpatine.
Right when Vader brings Luke to Emperor Palpatine
on the Death Star II, it's a rather long exchange,
but it's just like where he shows his grand plan.
It's like the most monologue super villainy moment
in all of Star Wars. I'm looking forward to completing
your trick. In time, you will call me Master.
You're gravely mistaken. You won't convert me
as you did my father. Oh no, my young Jedi. You
will find that it is you who are mistaken. About
a great many things. Where he's all like, you
know, I know everything like your guys are down
there. They're not going to they're not gonna
win I still got a shield. I'm fully activated
your friends are about to show up. I know that
too They're gonna die and then eventually you're
gonna get angry enough that you're gonna try
to kill me And then you're just gonna be my apprentice
And it's also the delivery of that line, especially
like when he says Yes, I assure you we are quite
safe from your friends here like just the way
the pacing of it the Emphasis and it's just you
know obviously Luke comes right back. You know
your overconfidence is your weakness and you
know your faith in your friends is yours, but
it's just every part of everything the Emperor
says and how he delivers it is just You're wanting
to hate the Emperor you know he's supposed to
be the character you hate most in this whole
thing but it's like god bless this guy always
knows what to say and he always has the upper
hand and god like luke you're so overmatched
here yeah it's so good yeah great choice um for
my number one you you talked about a part of
it and i kind of went on a little bit of a soapbox
for it but i really have to go and i know people
Will probably disagree with me and a lot of people
try to like rip on the writing and the dialogue
especially in the prequel trilogy But I'm going
back to episode 3 again. I've been there a bunch
but again that whole exchange between Obi -Wan
and Anakin for the whole Last whatever it is
30 minutes. I love almost every part of that
You underestimate my power! Don't try it! You
and the chosen one! It was said that you would
destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance
to the Force! Not leave it in darkness! There's
so many good points Like when Anakin mentions
my new empire and just the way Obi -Wan Kenobi
says your new empire is just you know for me
it was just like that moment where you have these
two friends and You just have one that finally
has seen it like he might have been questioning
or denying what's going on for a certain extent,
and he's hoping that maybe it's not true, or
he's hoping that he's going to be able to get
through to him. And then when he hears him say
that, just his reaction is just kind of, ah,
you know, and it's mainly from Obi -Wan and how
he delivers these lines, but, you know, my allegiance
is to the Republic, to democracy. Like you said,
only a Sith deals in absolutes. And then that
whole little exchange where you were the chosen
one, it was said that you would destroy the Sith,
not join them, you would bring balance to the
Force, not leave it in darkness. I love that
whole piece now I know it's broken up in between
you know obviously if we're going back and forth
between those scenes and what's going on with
the Emperor etc but I love that whole exchange
from Obi -Wan and Anakin and it's such a such
a jarring thing to see these people that are
supposed to be on the same side they're both
you know Jedi they're both characters that you've
been following along for three episodes and even
though you know what Anakin's gonna turn into
you've still are somewhat supposed to be liking
these characters through the three episodes and
just kind of seeing that How it all falls apart
and then the impact that that has when you watch
the original trilogy Like I said when Obi -Wan
and Darth Vader come face to face again, so I
love the whole end of this movie Yeah, a lot
of people didn't like Revenge of Sith and they're
wrong They're so wrong and I hate that it gets
lumped in sometimes when people like all those
prequel trilogies, which I don't Whatever, hate
on episode one if you'd like, but I like them
all and I really like episode three. Yeah, I
100 % that. Alright, what is your number one,
sir? My number one Han Solo. It shows like, almost
every Han Solo line shows just how Han Solo Han
Solo is. But this one's longer and I like it
a lot. It's my favorite quote probably from all
Star Wars. Kid I've flown from one side of this
galaxy to the other I've seen a lot of strange
stuff But I've never seen anything to make me
believe there's one all -powerful force controlling
everything There's no mystical energy field that
controls my destiny It's all a lot of simple
tricks and nonsense And that's how you should
live your life The Han Solo way Right, no that
is one that I definitely considered too and it's
you know Han and Luke have had their back and
forth and their little jabs at each other this
way or that way but it was like this is the line
in the sand about how I feel about your force
and how I feel about what you're doing but it
also kind of speaks to the fact that they have
completely different motives for being involved
in this thing and completely different outlooks
yet they're working together and you know on
the same team etc etc so but yeah definitely
shows you what Han Solo is all about and you
can't argue too much with it um you've avoided
all of the episode 7 trailers right yes okay
Because I'm not gonna mention anything, but there
is something that is said by Harrison Ford in
one of the trailers that speaks volumes to also
that quote. And I just want everyone who has
seen those trailers or in the future sees episode
seven, know that I'm aware of that, but I'm going
to avoid it for heaven's sake. It's so weird
that I'm doing, that I am avoiding the trailers
because it's so unlike me, but I just, I don't
need to know anything. You know what I mean?
I just want to be surprised. Not necessarily
surprised, but I just want to be able to experience
it all in one big foul swoop, I guess. I don't
know. I'm probably going to eventually accidentally
see it in front of another movie or something.
Yeah, I'm surprised you haven't as much as you
have. Normally, 1 ,000 % agree with you and I
was talking to a guy at work and I was just like,
I try not to get hyped up for movies and he's
like, yeah, no, it always makes the movie worse.
I was like, I know, but I'm so hyped for Star
Wars. I've never bought a movie ticket two months
in. Not only that, went back a couple days later
and bought more. That's awesome. Just for the
sake of all the maybe the more obvious quotes
or some of the people, quotes that maybe people
expected us to talk about, were there any that
we haven't talked about that just missed your
list or kind of some of the main ones that you
want to make sure we mention so people don't
think we're ignorant? Yeah, well of course you
got Let the Wookie Win. That one's got to be
mentioned. I really liked when Hansel asks Luke
Skywalker, so what do you think? Like, a princess
like her, a guy like me, and Luke immediately
cuts him off? No. No, I want to kiss my sister.
I was thinking of a couple, too, and we'll let
you think for a second, but I also love just
the introduction to the Mos Eisley spaceport
with the whole, you'll never find a more wretched
hive of scum and villainy. I like that one. he
said let the wiki when uh... how about uh...
help you know they want to know we are my only
hope uh... metaphorically with you were doomed
and i think that uh... another one that maybe
a little bit more uh... kind of under the radar
but i think there is a good one from quite gone
i try was trying to find one for him but the
closest i came was uh... in episode one when
he was talking to charger i guess that is why
it's maybe not as great as it could be, but when
he says the ability to speak does not make you
intelligent, I like that line from him for sure.
That's probably the most quotable line from him.
Any day conversation. Right. Oh, one other one
that I had from Darth Vader, which was his whole
exchange with Admiral Mahdi, which kind of ends
with the whole, I find your lack of faith disturbing.
When he's questioning, you know your sad devotion
to that ancient Jedi religion has not helped
you That's just a good one for the fact that
it just re Just cements that whole Darth Vader
is a badass still Like he is not one to be messed
with and he can force choke people And that's
not something you see every day. I uh I'm in
this group on Facebook that I don't really want
to talk about, but someone misquoted it and said,
your lack of faith disturbs me. And it's like,
that is an entirely different lie. Like, it practically
does the same thing, but in essence does not.
Right. Oh, no. I feel awkward. And my last one
was also from Darth Vader and that is just the
classic and only because it's been used so many
other times and commercials and stuff like that,
but the what is thy bidding my master? It's kind
of just classic chills because you're set up
to see this guy that's such a badass and can
do all these things and you're led to believe
that he is the most powerful enemy and then you
have him saying that to somebody else and you're
like wow this guy It's like basically bowing
down to this other individual. We better watch
out for this guy. Yeah The only line I can think
of to bring up is Darth Vader again, which is
no disintegrations the introduction to Boba Fett
Yeah, I was also thinking about the exchange
between them when Boba Fett's kind of upset or
You know worried that his prize possession is
gonna get hurt or wrecked That's kind of an interesting
exchange between Darth Vader and Boba Fett. He's
worth more to me alive Yeah, that whole exchange.
That's good one Man, so is there a movie out
of the six that you think is the most quotable?
Oh Jeez, um Let me reopen my list see if I did
more Episode two was the only one I didn't come
up with one for I had two in my top three for
episode two I also watched episode two today,
if that helps, when I was solidifying my list.
And episode, I watched episode one, two, and
seven in the last two days. That's interesting,
we watched one and two last weekend. I said seven,
it's not even a movie. I was like, how did you
watch seven all of a sudden? I'm just doing it
that well, I'm at six. Shoot. I wanna say the
first one, if only because everyone's seen the
first one. And I know, like, 5 % of the population
has it, but everyone has seen. And I think the
other thing that you get the benefit of with
A New Hope is that You kind of get your introduction
to all these characters for the first time so
you have quotes that are Memorable because it
shows you who that character is or what that
character is about Whether it's Leia or Obi -Wan
or Han or Darth Vader, so I mean I think you
do get a lot of stuff That's I probably had the
most quotes from episode from a new hope as well
and then for the prequels I definitely had the
most from episode 3 if you couldn't tell yeah
But I do think once you get Yoda in episode 5.
There's definitely a lot of a lot of quotes there
too. So definitely a very quotable franchise
and obviously we're looking forward to having
some new entrants when we get to episode seven
and who knows who the authors or who the actors
of those quotes will be but I'm looking forward
to adding a few more to the list. Teasing kind
of what we have going on next I guess when we
join you guys next time. We're going to bring
some more Star Wars aficionados onto the record
to help us count down our top ten moments or
scenes, which, man, if you thought Quotes was
hard to narrow down, I don't know if it gets
any harder than top ten Star Wars moments. What
about you, Matt? I know that my, uh... I've already
got at least ten that aren't going to make the
top cut that need to be mentioned. I have at
least ten honorable mentions. Yeah. We're going
to have a longer honorable mention section on
that one for sure, but maybe with more voices
being heard on that episode we'll cover more
of them during the time. But I'm definitely looking
forward to that. Hopefully I've had a chance
to re -watch the rest of the movies by then,
because I have four more movies I need to re
-watch just to see which ones hit hardest with
me this last time through, instead of just going
off of the memory of the first hundred times
I've seen each film. Alright, I think that does
it for this episode. Obviously, we want to interact
with you guys, so definitely visit the website,
geekcastradio .com, find the episode post, and
let us know what your favorite quotes are. Let
us know if we missed one out there, that one
that you really wanted to hear that we never
said. Call us out on it or let us know which
ones we got right that you also love. We definitely
want to interact with you guys there as we hype
our way up towards episode Matt, how can people
keep in contact with you on Twitter? Well, my
Twitter is at FridleyScent. That's probably the
easiest way to contact me. I also have a website,
lucharagnarock .com. It's where Nate and I, another

and Norse mythology. Yeah, and if you guys haven't
checked that out, definitely go check that out
and give them some feedback on what you think
about what they've been doing there. They've
been putting a lot of work into that, so they
would definitely appreciate the feedback. And

that is happening over at the site. optimus solo
and thanks for joining me matt definitely looking
forward to hearing your thoughts next time we
uh next time we join up i spec the ability to
speak does not make you intelligent now get out
of here you made a fair move screaming about
it can't help you i don't have it's not wise
upset a wookie but sir nobody worries about upsetting
a droid it's because a droid don't pull people's
arms out of their sockets when they lose wookies
are known to do that i see your point sir I suggest
a new strategy, Arthur. Let the Wookie win. What
is thy bidding, my master? May the Force be with
you. Obi -Wan. May the Force be with you. Goodbye,
old friend. May the Force be with you. Hey, Luke.
