Stroke the wookie Thank You Chewbacca. Yep. That's
right folks It's Wookie Wednesdays Geekcast radio
over the next four weeks episodes 85 to 89 Leading
up to Star Wars episode 7 the force awakens will
be having Star Wars top 10 countdowns join myself
TFG and Mike in episode 85 and then optimus solo
and his various band of scoundrels in these countdowns
leading up to Star Wars episode 7 the force awakens
without any further ado here we go with Top 10
Star Wars Characters. You're listening to the
Geekcast Radio Network. Hello and welcome to
Geekcast Radio. This is episode 85 and this is
going to be kicking off our Star Wars Top 10
Countdowns. Episode 85 to 89 of GeekCast Radio,
we're going to be counting down four, five actually,
five different aspects of the Star Wars universe.
I am one of your hosts, TFJ and Mike. Joining
me is Optimus Solo, hello. Are you done yet?
Okay. In this episode we will be counting down
our top 10 favorite characters both hero and
villain in the galaxy far far away Now this is
I don't know if this is gonna kick off, but this
is kind of our Star Wars Special coverage kind
of stuff leading up to the force awakens the
force awakens is what it is actually the force
awakens the the far so why are you saying that?
Because it's funny. It's not going to be a farce.
It's going to be legit. I don't know. Totally
legit. Best movie since episode six. Well, at
least you got the numbering right. So what we're
going to do is we're going to give you five different
countdowns over the next five weeks, folks. They're
going to be on various topics dealing with the
Star Wars universe. We still have to argue about
one off air because that's why we're not going
to tell you what they are because we're not exactly
what they're going to be it well We pretty much
have the five set except for one we have four
out of the five says It's kind of like that old
dentist commercial four to five recommend oral
B. Mike is that one loser that doesn't recommend
it? Oh shut up anyway So why don't you tell the
folks a little bit about when you came up with
all these Star Wars ideas for this year? Whenever
Star Wars Episode 7 was announced. It can go
back as far as that. I mean it was obvious that
we needed to do something about Star Wars. We're
a geek site. Star Wars is my favorite franchise
in the world And we had to do something so we
got a bunch of different things that are gonna
be happening Star Wars related and it just makes
sense that a site that loves its list is gonna
do some some lists for Star Wars, so I think
it just just made sense. So that's that's basically
where it came from And I want to do as many Star
Wars related podcasts as possible so obviously
we're gonna have some coverage on the cinema
geeks i've already been invited to be on a couple
other podcasts that are for their star wars episode
that's right they reached out to me because they
know that i am obsessed so all right jar jar
take it away we'll be back after this all right
folks before we get into the countdown proper
apparently we have list stuff to go over. Oh,
don't be so excited. Yeah, I mean, whenever we're
doing one of these lists, it always makes sense
to kind of go over our criteria first, how we
formed our list, and kind of what's the background
there for the formation of it. So, I mean, some
of the lists that we do in this countdown series
will be more about like the best or what we think
is, you know, the greatest this or the greatest
that. For me, with the characters, I'm going
100 % personal. favorites. So my list is all
about my personal favorite characters. They could
be main characters, they could be good, they
could be bad, they could be minor, they could
be... Now let me ask you this. Are we just doing...
Just the film franchise. Okay. Just the film
franchise. We're not counting the Expanded Universe
and the books and this that and the other because
then there'd just be too many characters to choose
from. And for... Entertainment purposes a lot
of our audience might not be familiar with some
of those More obscure characters or some of the
characters from the books, but most people have
seen the six films So we want to keep it kind
of accessible to everybody But yeah, there's
there's not much criteria in mind Like I said,
it could be somebody that appeared in one scene.
It could be the most major character in the whole
franchise so Not much criteria for this one But
I will say that when we get to some of these
other lists I will be kind of trying to pull
my personal bias out of some of those and actually
picking what I think are the best this or that,
but we'll get to those later. I do want to preface
this with a quick honorable mention, even though
we're not including them. I do have to point
out, if anyone is reading the Darth Vader Marvel
comic series right now, they introduced in that
series two evil versions of C -3PO in R2 -D2.
They are Triple Zero and BT -1. Just imagine
The most just imagine C3po and R2 but evil and
it is just so friggin awesome Anyone that's not
reading the Darth Vader series right now written
by Karen Gillian with art by Salvatore Larocca
You really should be reading it because those
two droids are awesome. Nice Alright number 10,
sir. What do you got? All right, like I said
Part of my criteria means they don't necessarily
need to be the most major character. This is
just, for me, a personal favorite. Now, one thing
George Lucas has done throughout all six films
is he definitely has tried to direct these films
more so towards the kids. Even though some of
it is more mature, some of it might be more aimed
at all different types of audiences, there's
still that overarching feeling that he was trying
to make these films enjoyable for... the children.
And he throws lots of different characters throughout
the six films in for that sole reason, some of
which are epic fails and some of which are more
successful. And that's where I'm kind of going
with my number 10. I remember when I saw these
films for the first time as a child that I really
enjoyed this species of characters and I wanted
to see more of that. Now I can see how maybe
a lot more mature adult that minded people would
say that, oh, these characters are silly, they're
stupid, they're not needed, whatever. But I enjoy
them, and I enjoy the whole scene with them at
Endor, and that is the Ewoks, and I'm specifically
obviously going with Wicket as my number 10 character.
I don't understand why everyone hates the Ewoks.
I'll take the Ewoks over. Jar Jar Binks clan
or a lot of other things that we see throughout
the series. So I mean, I can understand why people
hate the cartoon series droids and Ewoks because
that was a really bad cartoon series. I can understand
that. But I mean, the with the the wickets. Wow.
The miniature walks. Yeah. That whole scene is
just fun, come on, regardless. It is. They're
riding speeders, they're hitting each other.
I mean, when that one Ewok bites it, man, that's
about the closest I come to crying in all of
Star Wars right there. Yeah, I mean the Ewoks
are just awesome and sadly I didn't think to
put them on my list Well, I supplied that for
you. So you got a chance to mention them. I think
they're fun I think it's a good attempt of Lucas
to actually put throw in the more childlike character
So I'll give them kudos for that. I like the
Ewoks in general I like the the movies with the
Ewoks in them after you know, the spin -off type
of films And I like Wicked so number 10 Wicked.
What's your number 10? My number 10, and people
are probably gonna kill me for this, is the Emperor.
That's not bad. I like the Emperor a lot. In
which phase of his life? The only phase that
matters. When he's old and crusty? Well, okay,
since you asked that, I have to admit, and I've
said this, we've done... In all said total for
the film specifically we've done five and a half
hours of coverage on movie we can review so For
me personally when it comes to the Emperor where
he was the most awesome was the fight with mace
window in revenge of the Sith and When he's old
and crusty in return of the Jedi. Yeah He's definitely
the most intimidating characters one of the most
powerful characters that we come across in the
film franchise up to this point so I can see
why you would put him or why people would put
him on the list and The other reason this is
just absolutely silly This isn't the reason why
I put him at number 10 because I do really enjoy
the Emperor But I have obviously more characters
that I enjoy a little bit more than him, but
I have to mention The people over at Rovio Games
did an amazing thing when they started doing
Angry Birds Star Wars 2. Now I know a lot of
people out there don't care for the Angry Birds
games, that's fine. But you have to admit, hearing
the actual Emperor, there's a behind the scenes
video, I'll put it in the post. There's a behind
the scenes video of the actor going into the
Rovio studios and actually recording lines. He's
the only... Angry Birds character as Emperor
Pig that has ever actually spoken any lines because
any of those characters they just make animal
noises and it was just absolutely amazing but
specifically for this countdown episode 3 when
he when Palpatine eventually fully becomes the
Emperor from the lightning strike and the whole
fight with Mace Windu and then later when you
know when he's sitting in the chair looking very
very omnipresent and like you want this don't
you boy You know, you know that that you know
that whole thing right there number ten for me
the Emperor What about number nine for you, sir?
All right nine again. I'm going with somebody.
That's not really seen too much and I kind of
like this character more like when When this
character is initially seen then later on but
I think it's interesting that it took so many
episodes to get a character that could change
forms and I just like the mystery behind the
character. I like the seems like someone that's
a formidable foe. I'm going with Zam Wasel from
the prequel trilogy and the changeling so to
speak with that starts off looking like a girl
goes into some creepy little monster as he's
he or she or it is trying to obviously collect
that bounty. And I just think it's a cool character.
We don't have an abundance of changeling. Characters
in this franchise. So I think it adds an interesting
twist to it. And you know, she had some cool
skills You talk about the one that went after
Padme, right? Yep. Okay. I just want to make
sure that Changes that her face changes into
like a monster and it's kind of freaky Right.
Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I just think it's a
it's just more of a minor character But I thought
there was enough mystery behind the character
where you were interested to see like more about
that You like well what else has this? individual
been able to do, how did they get the reputation,
kind of in the same line of a lot of the more
bounty hunters that you see throughout the franchise
where you're like, well, let's learn more about
that character. Absolutely. What about you for
number nine? Number nine for me is the pirate
himself, the one that took really good care of
the Millennium Falcon, Lando Calrissian. I can
see a lot of people hating him too. See, here's
the thing about Lando. I wish, I know we'll never
get it now, but I really wish they would have
eventually done some sort of buddy cop animated
series or buddy cop TV special or something with
him and Han, because I love the way the two of
them interact in Empire. you know absolutely
love it and I love the way they turn Lando into
somewhat of a hero because by Jedi he ends up
being you know a general and and everything else
and I just I just really love him and honestly
Every time I see Billy Dee Williams in anything,
I just love the guy. He's just amazing. He was
a good counterplay to Han Solo, that's for sure.
He was. He absolutely was. I mentioned earlier
with my honorable mention there for the Marvel
comic series, Marvel is doing amazing things
with the comics for Star Wars right now. They
have the main ongoing for Star Wars. They have
the ongoing for Darth Vader. They had a five
-issue miniseries for Princess Leia. They had
a five -issue miniseries for Lando. And starting
soon, they're going to have a five issue mini
-series for Chewy as well. But Lando... Well,
Leia, yeah. I read the first two and a half,
three issues. It was okay. It wasn't... I don't
know, whatever. Spoiler alert for my list. She's
not going to show up. Well, okay. For me though,
Lando, you know... It's one of those things where
the character is amazing, but I also have to
talk about Billy Dee Williams because, and this
is, you're gonna just throw me under the bus
for this. I'm ready. A few years ago, I forget
how old the series is, it only lasted one or
two seasons, there was a series, General Hospital
Night Shift. And you watched this. Okay, shut
up, just let me speak here, okay? So, hey, I
grew up watching Soaps with my grandparents,
so just shut the hell up. All right, so I was
never really a big fan of the regular General
Hospital soap opera, but I thought the ass, because
most of the stuff they show on the main soap
opera is during the day and everything else,
so I thought the interesting thing with the Night
Shift series was, that it shows you what happens
at night when all the main characters are essentially
gone. They have a few main characters. They have,
well, one of the janitors comes out, starts whistling
a tune, lo and behold, it's an old Billy Dee
Williams. And I'm like, oh my God, that is so
amazing. Absolutely love it. I think also what
it does is it adds somebody to the series that,
at least for an extended amount of time, adds
an element of not quite knowing. if someone's
gonna be good, if someone's gonna be bad, if
you can trust them, what their motives are, et
cetera, to a greater extent than you ever get
with Han Solo. It's more believable that this
guy could screw you over, could end up being
bad, so obviously everybody knows how it turns
out, but I think in the moment, you're not quite
sure what to think if you're supposed to be rooting
for him, rooting against him, so I like that
element that it adds to that film. Absolutely,
and my favorite part about Lando in Empire is...
When he's mumbling to himself about this isn't
the deal I signed up for and then Vader has that
you know famous line Right, you know pray that
I don't alter this deal any further, you know,
I mean just amazing. Yep, so What is your number
eight, sir? Well, you can't have a list of Star
Wars characters in which you don't include some
type of droid, because obviously droids play
a big part in this franchise. And you've got
to go with one that's been in every single film,
which means everybody knows I'm talking about
one of two. And it should be pretty clear, folks.
R2 -D2 is the one that's on my list, not C -3PO.
Number eight, though? Number eight, R2 -D2. I
like R2 -D2. He shows up in every film. He does
a lot of cool things. He just adds it adds that
elements, you know without ever actually speaking
but with his beeps and bloops and stuff like
that He has some mad skills in the prequel trilogy
That's for sure that you weren't even aware of
but just I think my favorite scene for r2 and
entire franchise and what really earns him a
spot on my list is the scene on Dagobah between
r2d2 and Yoda Like that is just so great. You
get such an insight into R2 -D2's personality
there Even better than I think his interactions
with C -3PO when he's pushing him into things
or doing this that and the other like I just
love how he and Yoda interact with the stick
and with different You know different things
like that. So I love R2 -D2 This is just a sign
of how great this franchise is and how many great
characters are involved that he's all the way
down at number eight But I think there's seven
better characters, but R2 -D2 is my number eight
I'll have to talk about Archie way later. No
problem. What's your number eight, sir? Number
eight? Even though you're not going to put her
on your list, I'm going to put her on mine. Oh,
Lord, please don't. Okay, we have to talk about
Leia. Come on. Just a little kiss. She would
be on my top ten worst characters. Oh, come on.
I hate Leia. She choked Jabba the Hutt. She's
the only person that can... He can't move. He's
a big fat slob. He couldn't put up much of a
fight there. Like most mob bosses, they have
other people do their dirty work. So I don't
know. I mean Leia is just Her feistiness is what
gets me in I take Padme over Leia. Oh my god,
you you have a screw loose folks. She's cute
That wasn't a cracker heroin that's subjective,
but anyway wasn't drugged up during the shoot
Okay, so My point with putting Leia at number
eight is that she's not like we don't ever really
get to see her as a royal princess except for
that one scene at the end where she's giving
out awards which whatever. But like because Alderaan
got blown up we don't ever really ever see her
as the princess part of the character. We see
her as the rebel warrior for the most part. I
take princess Vespa over Leia. Oh my god. Yes,
that I won't argue with on that one. But I'm
just saying that Leia has her moments and she
has some damn good lines. I mean, how many people
can call Han Solo a scruffy looking nerf herder
and get away with it? Not a lot. What's your
number seven? All right going to number seven
man just seems wrong naming these people already,
but Characters out there. I guess it's one of
the ones that I would be interested to read that
miniseries. I got to go with the hairy one Chewbacca
He's just funny. I talked about Lando being the
counter punch to Han Solo I mean, obviously Chewbacca
is the greatest counter play with with Han Solo
to just love the presence love the height You
know, he represents this huge character, another
character like R2 -D2 that's not really talking
in a way that we can tell, even though Han can
understand him. But all the different funny elements
that he has, but also the physicality of him,
I just really liked his character and he's just
a large Ewok. So obviously I like those guys.
Yeah, I mean, Chewie is awesome. I've got, you
know... Chewie is the... Chewie and Han are the
better duo out of Chewie and Han and C -3PO and
R2. Don't get me wrong. I love C -3PO and R2's
exchanges, but the way that Han interprets Chewie
and responds to him is just, you know, the whole
scene in episode four, you know, when he's like,
you know, Here, Chewie, let me put these on you.
Okay, Han, you put those on him. That whole scene.
And he's such a loyal friend. Oh, God, yes. I
mean, the scene when he comes up in Jedi, when
he comes up out of the AT -AT, it's like, just
wow. Not the AT -AT, what's the other? It's AT
-ST. Yeah, whatever the hell. Scott Walker. The
Walker thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely loves
Chewie. Like I said, he'll come up later for
me though. What's your number seven then? Number
seven. I'm going to talk about him as the entire
character. Okay. So I like both versions, but
I wasn't sure if I was going to like both versions
because as we all know, the original trilogy
came before the prequels and I've said this before.
I've always been weirded out when watching Star
Wars because episode four, even as a kid, I'm
like, okay, so where's episodes one through three?
What's going on here? You know what I mean? Just
that thing. And I understand and whatever else
when it's a discussion for another day, but Obi
-Wan Kenobi. I'll bounce off this with you because
it's my number six. Okay. Obi -Wan Kenobi, specifically
in the original trilogy, old Ben, Sir Alex Guinness.
absolutely kicked ass in every line that he gave
in every action that he did up until the fact
that Vader killed him. He would be in my list
too if we were doing if we were doing a list
of the best actors to appear in the franchise.
He would make my top 10 easily. He's probably
one of the best actors to appear in the original
trilogy Just every he every time he's on screen
and opening his mouth. You are like good Fixed
on you're like every word you're just waiting
for because of the way He presents the way he
talks the way he acts You're just glued to the
scene and you're waiting everything that he's
gonna say because it has so much weight behind
it It's like he's not someone that's gonna talk
a lot and when he talks you want to know what's
going on and just that whole scene when he Turns
his lightsaber off basically And let's bait or
take him out is just ridiculous like he is great
in the entire original trilogy. I will say that
I didn't like him as much in episode one. Okay,
well, wait a second here. Okay, just wait one
second. With Sir Alec Guinness, like you said,
you know, he doesn't even need to say that much.
All he needs to say is, these are not the druids
you're looking for. Move along. You know what
I mean? Right. But yeah, I mean, absolutely.
And I'll say this, this is the reason why I said
I'm going to talk about him as an entire character.
Yes. Sir Alec Guinness is amazing and when I
heard the the news or when I saw the news well
saw the news back then because the internet wasn't
that big in 1999 wasn't that huge as it is today
when I saw the news about Ewan McGregor gonna
be playing a young Obi -Wan I was like no that
doesn't seem like good enough casting to me and
for the first film for Phantom Menace I absolutely
like That that movie is Qui -Gon until Qui -Gon
dies like that movie had Obi -Wan's there. That's
all it's all it is I mean obviously Obi -Wan
comes into you know his own in in Attack of the
Bones and Revenge of the Sith and all that stuff
and whatever else but yeah in in Phantom Menace
I didn't really care for him where I really enjoyed
him was when he got that fire in him in episode
3 yeah Well and and to I think you McGregor is
a great actor and you know, I think that's fine
for that role I think just the way that he's
kind of just in the background or the way that
he doesn't quite hold the same type of awe and
Inspiring type performance like we get from mr.
Guinness It's the only reason why he'd falls
all the way to number six. Otherwise, it'd be
even higher, but I agree I do love him in episode
3 I love him almost in the entirety and especially
in the last 30 minutes like that is some of my
favorite Obi -Wan Kenobi in the whole thing as
far as Ewan McGregor's performance So I think
just because of episode one and two he falls
a little bit for me But he's still number six
because he's still a great character throughout
the entire thing. He's still kind of that that
tie that kind of connects everything with, you
know, with Vader, with Luke, with everything
throughout the prequels and the original trilogy.
So he's just a great character overall and I
like the hermit aspect of him and the kind of
the just that. awe -inspiring intelligence that
you know he has from all these different years.
So, yeah, I agree. Number six for me, which means
it's right back to you for another one. All right.
Number six for me is Yogurt. Oh, I'm sorry. Wrong
movie. It is the other pirate himself, Han Solo.
I love Han. He's awesome. Number six. Yeah, number
six. I question things about you. Oh, it's gonna
go a little bit further later. But Han, I love
Han. I know he shot first, but I still want to
think that Greedo shot first. I know Han shot
first. I don't want to start that argument. I
just don't understand why people find that such
a fascinating debate. Really. I like the way
that... He tells his story and the way that he
talks with Luke and everything else in episode
four I like the way that they meet him I like
the way that we find him in the aspect of he
needs to get out of this debt and Them paying
him for safe travel to Alderaan is gonna help
him as well as them When they eventually obviously
get Captured by the Empire that the fact that
you know he can hide them in there smuggling
vessels below the whatever the Millennium Falcon
Yeah, absolutely dig on and really where I kind
of dig on a little bit more is that After he
gets freed from carbonite, I mean Harrison Ford
being able to play a blind man. That's just awesome
Yeah, no comment Number five, sir. All right
for number five. I'm kind of going likewise with
my number six. My number six is Obi -Wan Kenobi
number five I'm going with the other hermit that
had to wait out until there was another opportunity
to strike and that is of course the brilliant
Frank Oz as Yoda It just doesn't get much better
than that from the way he performs and the original
trilogy to his flipping cartwheeling light -sabering
craziness in episode two You can't go against
someone who speaks like he does and someone with
the knowledge that he does the you know basically
one of the best Jedi ever and I don't know how
you could not any top ten list of characters
from the film franchise that doesn't include
Yoda somewhere on there is an epic fail So he
is my number five All right, my number five is
Chewbacca. All right. My number seven is your
number five not too far apart. No, I Like I said
before I love Chewie. I love everything he does.
I love the way he interacts with Han and everybody
else I love his character progression over the
three films and I'm specifically meaning the
original trilogy I know he showed up a couple
of times in the prequels when Yoda went to Kashyyyk,
but Obviously, you know, Chewie's Time to Shine
was in four, five, and six. And just seeing some
of his reactions and it's just, you know, more
power to Peter Mayhew for doing and being able
to act out that role so well. Yeah, and obviously
I'm in agreement since I had him only a couple
spots lower on my list so Chewbacca gets a double
appearance on our list which means I'm up to
my number four and my number four and my number
three if I catch any flack probably that's where
it's gonna be for having these two individuals
this high but gosh darn it they are awesome and
I think everybody will agree with how awesome
my number four is, and then everybody will have
the same complaint that we didn't get to see
more of him, and my number four is actually from
the prequel trilogy, and that would be, yes,
he's this high, folks, it's Darth Maul. He is
the absolute best part of episode one, and where
they messed up with the prequel trilogy was not
having him. throughout at least two if not three
movies because killing him off so quick I get
the point and I get how it was done and I'm not
saying that it's bad as far as Qui -Gon same
type of thing that Obi -Wan later does etc etc
etc but if they could have done something different
to have him last there's a great youtube video
out there about i think it's titled something
about like what episode four should or what episode
one should have been or what episode two and
what episode three should have been and the guy
is a genius with his commentary on that and he
has an excellent optional storyline for darth
maul but the the double -ended lightsaber the
look of him the you know everything about him
was super intimidating super epic and i just
wish we would have got a little bit more about
him obviously i guess and if you want to the
animated rowdy does return in a cemented form
I guess but I don't know I just I just wish they
would have done more but for the the little time
he's on there he almost is enough to save episode
one unfortunately he's not but he's the best
part of that movie so he has to make my list
absolutely all right number four for me oh boy
use the force Luke Let go, Luke. It's Luke Skywalker.
Now, his characterization from episode four to
episode six is a vast improvement because episode
four, you've got him, you know, hey, all right,
I got one. Don't get cocky, kid. More like episode
four, you have him and then you just have to
insert a whiner complaint over and over and over
and over and over again. Yeah, yeah. I don't
want to do that. but Let's face it. There's no
way episode 4 emo Luke Skywalker is more It is
worse than what the entirety of episode 2's love
story was But Luke Skywalker absolutely loved
him in return of the Jedi when he becomes a full
-on Jedi and basically kicks ass and basically
just Talks Jabba down and everything else absolutely
loved that I like him in episode 6, but I know
he's supposed to be the main character of this
whole franchise and that's my favorite franchise
ever, but I've never liked him. I've always liked
everybody else more outside of Leia. I do like
him better than Leia. I do like him in episode
6 and kind of where he ends up, but man, he is
annoying in episode 4. and part of episode five
uh so he's not going to be on my list but uh
but i guess he's the main character of the story
so i suppose he's supposed to be loved i just
i just never have loved him i think mark hamill
is a better voice actor than an actor may the
floss be with you okay what's your number four
my number four was darth maul um for my number
three i'm gonna go almost the identical character
is the same same situation with darth maul everybody
loved him but he went out too soon and that's
Boba Fett my number three the best bounty hunter
there I think this is almost purely based on
the design the character design whoever did the
character design for Boba Fett should be awarded
some type of medal because that is why people
love him is the look is the design is the whole
thing he's got a freaking jetpack that he can
fly around yes it doesn't end up doing them so
serving them so well. But but just that whole
bounty hunter story like that's instantly when
everybody was hearing about like, oh, they're
going to do all these spinoff films that are
going to give you a better look at this person
or that person. That was one of the first names
on everybody's tongue was I want to see that
I want to see a spinoff movie on Boba Fett. I
want to see. What well, you know how he got the
reputation as being one of the best bounty hunters
in the galaxy So, I mean it's it's just a cool
character. He's always been one of my favorite
characters There's always one of my favorite
action figures. So Boba Fett is my number three.
I don't care if people say that's too high I
Never cared for the character in the basis of
the films because I felt the character did nothing
at all and stand there and look menacing He's
good at that though Since I read I'll have to
put this in the show notes episode 66 of the
pullback we did Django and Boba Fett and Boba
Fett is dead when Dark Horse had the had the
comics it basically tells the tale of Django
and Boba as a family and That's where I really
learned to appreciate Boba Fett within the Star
Wars universe But inside the films, I just can't.
He gets eaten by the friggin' Sarlacc people.
Or does he? I mean, he couldn't even... The rogue
prequel films or rogue separate films are probably
gonna be from a different timeline before he
dies, not after. They're not gonna go to the
animated room? They're not gonna bring him back
as, you know, a friggin' walking dead zombie
or some stupid crap like that. Did you see what
he came back in the animated show? No. Which
animated show did he come back in? Clone Wars
Clone Wars. Yeah, I haven't even watched a single
episode of Clone Wars I've got to eventually
but I just I know what's your number three then
smartass I Can't even I can't even do the theme
song for him, but you know Darth Vader people
Darth Vader Absolutely love James Earl Jones
is the voice of Darth Vader. I know everybody
goes on I know you know about your number one
and your number two now No, you don't. Edit.
No, you don't. I can write them down for you.
No, you don't. All right. Continue. You have
no idea. Uh, Darth Vader. I absolutely love James
Earl Jones as the voice. I know everyone talks
and talks and talks about David whatever the
guy that's actually in the suit. I don't care.
Whatever the hell his name is. I don't care.
I don't care if he caused all kinds of controversy
for George Lucas and what I don't even give a
crap about that crap. Let's face it, Darth Vader
was James Earl Jones. I mean... And the suit.
Well, yeah. I mean, you know what I mean, though.
Without that suit, he's not as successful. Well,
true. I mean, you know, you really can't have
the guy, you know, force choke somebody when
he's not in the suit. But just the fact of him
force choking people, the fight with Luke in
Empire... The fact that he turns against his
master in Jedi and finally gets some sort of
resemblance of what he used to be back, just
absolutely love him. And again, I know what we're
supposed to be talking about in the context of
the films, but I do have to reference the comics.
The Darth Vader series that Marvel has going
right now takes place... After the events of
episode four before we get to Empire. So the
story that they're telling in that comic is basically
After he failed like what you know, how is he
gonna make his comeback to reach the events of
Empire? And it's just absolutely amazing All
right my number Man, all the way up to number
two. My number two is an individual that you
had way too low on your list. It should have
been much higher, and that is the best good character
in the entire... Franchise and that is Harrison
Ford himself on solo. It's my damn screen name.
Are you? It came close but it's number two, I
mean Harrison Ford adds so much again one of
the better actors to appear in the franchise
as well his charisma his wit his humor his dialogue
his Ability to put the princess in her damn place
His His maturity that helps you deal with the
whiny little Brett of Luke Skywalker during the
whole series makes it palatable, I guess, but
just everything about him. He's freaking the
pilot of the damn Millennium Falcon. Are you
freaking kidding me right now? How can you not
put him on your list? He's easily the best. He's
on my list. I'm saying, how could someone not
put him on their list? And how could you not
put him higher? But he is by far my favorite.
good character. He's my favorite hero of the
entire franchise. Han Solo too. I'll admit my
number two... I already have it written down
by the way. It's four letters. Are you sure?
Are you sure? Four characters. My number two
at first, he never was going to be this high
because at first I absolutely loathed the character
when we met him in Return of the Jedi. But he
grew on me and once we saw him in the prequels
it was like, oh wow, this old dude can kick some
ass. None other than Yoda. And you said I didn't
know with it. You don't know what my number one's
gonna be. Yeah, it's also four characters. They're
both four characters. I absolutely love Yoda.
He's... He's just so like everybody imitates
him. Yeah, everybody imitates Frank Oz. Everybody
does tries to do it their own Yoda impression
You know and I know a lot of people a lot of
die -hard Star Wars fans like us I wasn't like
this. I thought it was cool as hell I know a
lot of people hated the fact that they put a
lightsaber in his hand and had him jumping around
That's parts of that movie I thought that was
awesome. I mean it got a little bit crazy at
a couple points but it was still awesome. It
was awesome because we hadn't like obviously
Jedi had already been out for years and years
and years and we basically saw him at the end
of his life and that's why I love the prequels
specific to the characters that were in the original
trilogy seeing like my biggest problem with A
New Hope is is how did we get to this point?
I wanna, you know, oh, your father fought in
the Clone Wars. Well, I wanna see the damn Clone
Wars. I don't, you know, I don't, you know what
I mean? So that's one of the reasons why I absolutely
love Revenge of the Sith. You know, the other
two films I can take or leave, especially the
first film I can definitely leave, but for me,
where my Star Wars enjoyment, Starts story wise
is episode 3 to episode 6 and obviously episode
7 whenever it comes out but for Yoda just He
kicks major ass. Yeah, absolutely Can't can't
fault you too much for that. I mean there's number
five for me number two for you It's not too far
off that so drum roll for number one. What do
you got? All right, I said that Hansel was my
favorite good character, which means obviously
my number one is my favorite evil character You
already talked about him. It was not high enough
on your list And that is of course the the tie
that binds the entire thing together and that's
Darth Vader It's easy. It's it's one of my favorite
characters one of my favorite action figures
I had that little carrying case that was his
head Did you see the Did you see you can now
bathe in Darth Vader's tears The reason being
here is obviously this is the thematic resonance
of the entire series of Him starting as an innocent
little kid, but dealing with the fact that he
has more power more Of the ability to harness
the force and you know, etc than anybody else
He's strong enough to out to do take over the
Emperor his Force choking and stuff like that
the intimidation factor how much power he has
at the epic epicenter of episode three and what's
coming afterwards when when he can just go crazy
and just kill everybody um and then obviously
go in full circle to where he is the one that
does kill the emperor that restores the balance
um regardless of how much you want to say luke
is the chosen one it was darth vader it was it
was anakin skywalker who was the one that no
i completely agree with that i'm just saying
that with luke Like his progression to well,
I'm not saying anything against that I'm just
saying like people that are like Oh Luke is the
one that saved everything or saved the universe.
No, it was it was Darth Vader And just everything
his suits his look his design just like Boba
Fett was it was awesome and on point James Earl
Jones as the voice was great and I don't even
care how much people hate on Hayden Christensen,
I think Those last again those last 20 to 30
minutes of Revenge of the Sith just show you
so much about that character and everything that's
going on and I Love Darth Vader. He's the only
one that could possibly beat Han Solo and watching
it watching these any kid under the age of like
anybody from like 7 to 15 That watches Star Wars
for the first time. I'm talking about episode
4 When you see Darth Vader and you see him walking
down the hall with this cape and everything else
and you see what how he treats his Generals and
admirals and whatnot. It's just like instantaneous
Attachment to that franchise and that character
and he's my number one Absolutely the The only
time I didn't like Hayden Christensen is an episode
like The only problem I have is much better than
Jake Lloyd Okay, well no fault to the kid I guess
but What I'm saying is my one like I love Hayden
Christensen as Anakin when he's dealing with
Obi -Wan and all that stuff in in episode 2 It's
just a love story episode and I know people give
him a hard time too because some of the whininess
of his dialogue and whatnot But it's the exact
same thing we get with Luke folks. Yeah, it runs
in the family Anyway, what is your number one?
It's four characters. My number one. Can anybody
guess? And it's my number one. One of the only
reasons why he got number one is because of something
that everyone says he should have never been
able to do. But it was a moment that I thought...
we would never ever see and it was just so damn
awesome. My number one is R2 -D2 simply because
he ended up flying in the prequel trilogy. There's
so many things that R2 does in the overall span
of the films but... I didn't know what to expect.
Like, we knew C -3PO and R2 in the original trilogy.
We knew what happened. We knew all about R2's
interactions, and he's obviously the more sensible
one, the one that's gonna push 3PO into the danger
and instead of running from the danger or anything
else. I didn't know what to expect out of R2
in the prequels. And when we learned that in
the time where, you know, during the war, he
was able to fly... Oh my god, that's just so
awesome. I mean, anyone that says that R2D2 flying
is not awesome has got to screw loose. Yeah,
I will give you this. He is the best character
to appear in all of the films. Alright folks,
that's gonna do it for... Let's real quick go
down the list because I want to hear all of them
in its entirety so people can see your choices
of the 10 most popular characters that appear
in the films. Well, they're not the... There
might there are favorites. I know I'm just saying
list your ten your ten characters the Emperor
Lando Leia Obi -Wan Han Chewie Luke Darth Yoda
and R2. All right, so you'd left c3po off the
list Of course mine was wickets. Zan was so r2d2
Chewbacca Obi -Wan Kenobi Yoda Darth Maul Boba
Fett Han Solo and Darth Vader No, not at all.
Um, we're gonna take a quick break. We'll be
back in a moment telling you what's coming up
next in the next episode. You stuck -up, half
-witted, scruffy -looking nerf herder! Pokey
religions and ancient weapons are no match for
a good blaster at your side, Kevin. All right,
folks, we are back, and what I'd like to know,
and I'm sure Kevin would like to know, is how
you guys would make your own personal favorite
top 10 Star Wars character list. So here's what
you can do. When this episode comes out, mark
in the comments. What's your number ten through
number one favorite good or evil character would
be from these six Star Wars films and Maybe when
we get to the next episode episode 86 We will
go over some of them in the beginning of the
show of the next episode of the podcast So anyone
wants to interact and make their own countdown
for favorite Star Wars characters go ahead and
do that mark it in the post Put it in the comments
for this episode and also let us know which one
of us came up with the better list Alright so
coming up next We're gonna be doing an episode
86 of geek cast radio our top 10 favorite scenes
and or moments You want to define that for the
people? It's just, you know, when you're watching
those six films, what are your favorite little
bits? Your favorite moment? Sometimes it may
be a couple moments put together which would
make it more of like a favorite scene. Just favorite
things that happen. Your favorite events or any
individual moment is kind of how it is. So a
little loose definition, but it should provide
for... Variety I would be surprised if we have
as much crossover as we do Did on this one obviously
because there's gonna be a lot of different moments
that may resonate for some people may not for
others Maybe a dramatic moment may be a funny
moment. So that's what we're gonna be kind of
breaking down on that next one Absolutely So
thank you for joining us here on geek cast radio
for now. I am TF2 and Michael with optimus solo
