The post Cinema Geeks – Episode 69 – Fall & Winter Preview appeared first on GeekCast Radio Network.

You got the touch! This is Stan Bush, and you're

listening to the Geek Cast Radio Network. Dream

the dream. Today on episode 69 of The Cinema

Geek, we continue making ridiculous box office

predictions. We give you a heavy dose of trailer

talk. and in an extra special main attraction

we give you our take on our fall and winter movie

preview by playing a new game stolen from talking

in circles called what are the chances all that

and more coming up on episode 69 with the cinema

geeks That's right, it's episode 69 of the Cinema

Geeks, the extra special Labor Day episode where

we take a look ahead because it's not worth taking

a look at the present time. It's not a good time

for a lot of movies out there. So we're going

to go ahead and look ahead and give you guys

kind of our fall and winter movie preview. I

am one of your hosts, Optimus Solo. Joining me

as always is movie rebel Dan. Hello. Hey, how's

it going? Not too bad. And hard candy, Mandy.

Hello. What's happening? Not too much. I'm glad

to see you back here in action after missing

a week on our last episode. And we'll have to

reschedule to get you and DJ back on the record

together since you guys missed out on that opportunity.

I did not die of alcohol poisoning. I survived.

But it was good times. I was pretty sad that

I didn't get to record. I tried to make it. I

wanted to, um... do the thing with DJ, you know,

but chances will arise again, I'm sure. Anything

that you would like to rectify or defend or did

we do a decent job of... Starting under the bus,

DJ? Of communicating your action genre list.

No, you put it out there like it was a total

joke, you poop face. I think my list was so legit,

not hating. on your guys' list, but my list was

pretty awesome. DJ, you're a cheater. You added

a bunch of movies I wanted to add, but I'm glad

that we have similar tastes, so. All right. So

no mentioning of the Die Hard? I didn't want

to, because I didn't want DJ to get all worked

up again, because if anybody mentions it, he's

gonna get worked up. I think on Twitter he said

don't mention it, so my bad, DJ. Dan, anything

new and interesting for you in the last week

or just busy getting back in the busy work season

for you? Yeah, now my busy season's running down,

so hopefully within a week or two I'll have a

life again and be able to watch movies, but not

much going on in my end. Alright, yeah, I don't

think much much is going on except for we've

gone way over the deep end as far as the whole

video rental thing and we're renting videos four

or five at a time and it's probably an unhealthy

addiction but we're gonna ride this one out and

see what happens. We're gonna ride this train

till the wheels fall off. We've been seeing a

bunch of good bad and in between so it's definitely

interesting and especially interesting in August

because there was not a lot of new stuff that

was coming out in August that was worth watching.

September's a little bit better, so hopefully

we have some better choices to select from and

we don't have to go digging so far into the archives.

But we're going to do the episode a little bit

different this week so we can focus on, like

I said, the fall and winter preview. So we're

actually going to... do box office predictions

a little bit different and then we're gonna skip

the news actually and we're just gonna get into

trailers and then like I said earlier we're gonna

do a thing called what are the chances you may

have heard that before if you are a fan of talking

in circles Dan's done it a couple times there

and Dan I think you said you got it from ESPN

or something yeah part of the eruption did does

a version of that I don't know what they call

it but yeah basically it's random percentages

to random things that really don't matter so

it's basically okay it sounds great So let's

get into the box office a little bit. We're not

going to do a whole lot as far as what's currently

going on because Dan I remember a couple weeks

ago you predicted you know about the box office

probably being one of the worst weekends of the

year and that's pretty much the state of affairs

right now because I'm pretty sure that that weekend

that you talked about either did come in last

or it came in second to last so I mean it was

definitely not pretty um and this this weekend

so far it looks like war room Which is a movie

I never even heard of It looks like I don't say

this out of any people but its tagline is prayer

is powerful is a powerful weapon So I think it's

kind of one of those movies that you see are

you doing quotation fingers? Exactly. Well, it's

like, you know, I can't think of other movies

that fall in line with the tri stars as distributor

they have a lot of Movies you never will know

that I don't know but it's there are a lot of

those fire starter I think it's one of them.

There's all the ways that Those random movies

end up making like God's not dead comes to mind

that made a lot of money, too No, it was like

with Kirk Cameron or something like that. I don't

know. Yeah, I know what you're talking about.

The interesting thing about this weekend was

that Straight Outta Compton actually was number

one last week and War Room debuted at number

two and now this week it's jumped up and gotten

the number one spot. So in its second week it

actually took the number one away from Straight

Outta Compton who had had a healthy dose of being

there. The other new ones were for this week

that did not debut in the top one or two was

a walk in the woods and the transporter refueled.

you're not going to try to say that the other

one yes and that one So yeah, there's just not

a lot of going on. The top of the box office

this weekend got 9 million. So that's kind of

a statement of what's going on right now. If

you're looking at the year so far, just to kind

of break that down before we kind of look ahead

a little bit, the top five currently not much

has changed. We have Jurassic World at number

one, Avengers at number two, Furious 7 still

at number three, three million ahead of Inside

Out. which is 20 million ahead of Minions and

the only other movie to break the 200 million

mark so far is the number six film Cinderella.

Any surprises looking back Dan at the at the

box office so far before we kind of look ahead

to what's left? Well yeah there's a few films

that have done a lot more because we did what

did a top 15 prediction and a few that I did

not think would do nearly as well as they did.

San Andreas for example. SpongeBob completely

underestimated that, but also straight out of

Compton. That looks like it might end up in the

top 15 for the year, which is a little crazy.

Which is not crazy in a bad way, but crazy that

you tend to not see an R -rated drama do that

well. Yeah, I don't know how many people would

have predicted St. Andreas beating out Mad Max,

which is currently about a million ahead of it.

And I don't think anybody obviously predicted

Jurassic World beating Avengers. No. Amanda anything

surprising as far as I know you weren't a part

of the box office prediction show but anything

that surprised you looking at what's what we

stand at right now? I would say how far down

the list Mad Max is and how far up the list Pitch

Perfect 2 is. Pitch Perfect 2 and that's probably

one of the ones that's the worst movie in the

top ten currently that simply made a lot of money

based on the first one. But yeah, and I'm somewhat

surprised that Minions is still behind Inside

Out. Inside Out's the better film, but man, the

Despicable Me franchise makes a lot of money

and I'm surprised that Inside Out has kind of...

held off Minions up to this point, not saying

it'll last forever because I'm sure Minions are

going to be in the theater for probably another

five or six weeks, but we'll see how that goes

with the animated films. And not a bunch of animated

films coming out still the rest of the year that

are going to challenge those two. I don't think

Hotel Trans -Minion 2 or The Good Dinosaur is

probably going to quite stack up to what those

two did. But in a way of kind of looking ahead

and staying with our theme of the fall and winter

preview, Dan, do you have a box office prediction?

Do you have a film that's either you think it's

going to bomb or a film that you think is going

to surprise people? Or what are you looking at

for the rest of the year that you want to put

out there? It's funny that you mentioned The

Good Dinosaur because that's actually where I'm

going to go. And I think it's going to be the

year of the dinosaur. And I'm actually going

to make a bold prediction saying that The Good

Dinosaur is going to ride the good waves of Inside

Out. And even if maybe it's not as good as that

film, it's actually going to make more money

than Inside Out and be the highest grossing Pixar

movie of the year. Wow. Just thinking that dinosaurs

seem to be big now. Kids love dinosaurs. Similar

to like cars. Cars is not one of Pixar's best,

but it does really well. So using that logic,

I'm going to guess that maybe it does better.

And it's got some stuff going for it. It's not

going to have a lot of competition. It's coming

out at the right time of year for a kids or a

family film to do well in. So I mean, it does

have some things going for it. So I'm going to

go big and go home. I could be completely wrong,

but you know. All right. I like that. Anything

else you want to throw out there? I'll wait because

I don't want to steal one of your guys'. All

right, Amanda, what do you think? Anything as

far as good or bad that's going to happen the

rest of the year in the box office? I think I'm

going to take an easy one here. You cannot say

anything about Star Wars. I'm not going to say

anything about Star Wars. Star Wars is going

to win its weekend. At least. I think that...

the Hunger Games is going to kill it in the box

office. I think it's definitely one of those

series that's going strong and I have a personal

bias because I like the books and the movies.

So you weren't part of the prediction show at

the beginning of the year, so where is Hunger

Games going to end up? overall for the whole

year. What place do you think? Is it going to

be able to beat Avengers or Jurassic World or

is it going to be right behind those two in Star

Wars? I think it'll probably be number four to

Star Wars, Avengers and Jurassic World. Alright,

so Hunger Games coming in. Do you think it's

going to do better than the last one because

of the kind of the subject matter as far as the

last one was more of a setting stuff up and this

one's kind of going to be the actual action happening?

Yeah, I think so. I think it's going to take

it. All right, man, there's so many places to

go as far as bombs, and I have a bunch of them

in mind. I'm not going to take the easy route

and say gem and holograms. We'll save that for

maybe later on. But I think there's a good chance

that Goosebumps actually does not do well in

the box office. So I'm going to predict that

that one would be considered a bomb after all

is said and done. So as much as people probably

like the books and have that nostalgia and...

I just don't think it's going to resonate with

people in the theater. There's a lot of other

stuff coming out at that same time, and I think

the people are going to go see Crimson Peak instead.

We'll go with Goosebumps being a box office bomb.

We'll go one more round. You don't have to make

another prediction, but if you have one, go ahead.

Dan, anything else you want to put out there?

One I think is actually going to do really poorly

is I'm going to guess Victor Frankenstein is

going to be a bomb. I saw the trailer. It was

okay, but I just wonder if that... Is going to

hit an audience at all because I wonder if you

know, it's it's kind of a niche audience it's

going for so with pretty high profile stars with,

you know, Daniel Radcliffe and James Mc Mcboy,

so I just I don't know if it's really there So

I'm gonna go that that ends up being a bomb and

makes up makes less than its budget Well, that

makes me sad damn because I am really looking

forward to me a bad movie. I'm saying it's not

gonna be financially successful and like Which

would be another movie written by Max Lin if

that's a bomb, which was the American Ultra earlier

this month. So just my guess. Amanda, I'll give

you a chance next. You got nothing else? All

right. I'd like to go with another bomb, but

I don't know. I don't know if that's going too

easy. And it's too easy to say Spectre is going

to make a lot of money or Star Wars is going

to make a lot of money. Man, if I'm looking at

what else is coming out. I want to say that let's

go with Point Break also not making its budget.

I think it's coming out on a loaded time period.

There's about seven movies coming out on Christmas

Day, and I think that one and Elvin and the Chipmunks...

Well, Alvin, this shit mug somehow does make

money, I don't know. It's mind boggling. I'll

make the prediction that point break gets pushed

back to like the second week in January. Because

I feel like it's one of those like Jack Ryan

a few years ago that's there in December, and

they're like, never mind, and then push it to

January, where it belongs. Yeah, I can definitely

see that happening because that is a crowded

group of films towards the end of December all

trying to make that final push in the Christmas

crowd. So those would be our box office predictions

kind of looking forward to the rest of the year.

We're going to get into some quick trailer talk

here and then we're going to get into some main

discussion as far as what's going to happen,

what we're excited about, and we're going to

end the main attraction with our actual top movies

that we're most anticipating the rest of the

way. So it's a little bit different from what

Dan and I did and JD from In Session when we

did our overall year look, but we're just gonna

look at what's left to see what we're excited

about it. Still at this point, we may have seen

more trailers, more information, so maybe our

opinions have changed, or maybe they've stayed

exactly how they were at the beginning of the

year. But getting into trailer talk, there's

obviously been a lot of trailers that have come

out since the last time we talked. Dan, what's

one that hits you the right way or the wrong

way? One that hit me the right way is the Macbeth

trailer. I just think that's gonna win all the

Oscars. It's gonna win all of them. A Shakespearean

film with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cultiard.

It's gonna at least get nominated, I would assume

maybe. Well, maybe it's a wishful opening since

Michael Fassbender's in my fantasy league. But

I don't know, that looks really... I'm not a

huge Shakespeare lover. It's over my head most

of the time, but that looks unique and interesting.

I like the little twist they put on it. And it

just, I don't know, even just from the posters

to now to the trailer, I've loved everything

I've saw about it so far. So. Yeah, I'm definitely

with you on that. I am all on board. I am actually

a pretty big Shakespeare fan. took some classes

on it and actually just on Shakespearean college

so it's been a while since I've seen a real good

adaptation so I'm definitely looking forward

to Macbeth and also with the whole Fassbender

effect so you gotta see it. You're coining my

terms. Sorry. Amanda what do you got something

good or something bad from the trailers this

week? My first nay. I'm going to go with Scout's

Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. At first I'm

like, this looks pretty legit. But then I realized

it's going to be just a senseless booby shot

movie over and over again. And I'm just not going

to like it. So the zombie fan has given that

one a nay. Yeah. Yep. That's a nay. Do you think

she's in line with... Given that one a nay. Yeah,

I think so. It makes me kind of sad because there's

a lot of like legit young actors in that and

they're kind of working I mean working with You

know a kind of a trashy film, which is fine when

people can do that But I just I feel like with

a talent there could make something a little

bit more unique Maybe the line of like oh the

cabin the cabin the what something along like

the cabin a little bit more Satirical or something

like that not just like like you said a booby

fest, which might be a better title. Who knows?

I'm gonna kind of jump off of that though and

because it seems like we got two that are somewhat

trying to spoof similar things. I mean, one's

doing the zombie aspect and one's doing more

of the horror films, but I was actually somewhat

intrigued by The Final Girls. I don't know about

that title or that aspect of it, but it seemed

like it might be an interesting take or spoof

kind of on the whole. horror genre and maybe

I'm just in the mood with with the passing of

Wes Craven to see a horror film and that's not

usually something I say so or maybe it's the

fact that I watched it right after the trailer

for Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse that

might have something to do with it but I'll actually

give a mild a mild yay for the final girls trailer

what did you think of that one Amanda? I'll go

to some sideways I'm not completely sold I think

there's um Some pretty legit people, I mean,

if you watch TV, some of the TV shows that I

watch, there's The Vampire Diaries, so Nina Dobrev,

who's in Vampire Diaries, she's in that, also

Mildly Horror, and then American Horror Story.

one of the, I don't remember what her name is

now, but the daughter from the first season,

and she's been in most of the seasons, I think,

of American Horror Story. So you got a couple

people who are used to doing some horror there,

so I think it should be a pretty fun time. Am

I way off on that, Dan? Am I thinking that's

going to be way better than it? I'm not saying

it's going to be a good film, but I think it

might be at least passable. Maybe, yeah. I mean,

it might be passable. I'm not holding out. Hope?

like you. I mean, the title just seems a little

wonky, but it might surprise us, for sure. I

think it'll be better than Scouts vs. Zombies

or what have you, but... Scouts vs. Zombie movies?

Yeah, Zombie movies. We're just going to rename

that one a bunch of times. Alright, Dan, get

us back to something good then, or something

else that's not going to be so high on your radar.

Well, one I'm mildly optimistic about, and that's

concussion. The Will Smith movie which I again

something I missed when I was looking forward

to 2015 films like it This was off my radar completely

until the trailer came out Didn't realize this

was gonna be a film when I first saw it I thought

it was gonna be some sort of like ad for the

NFL against concussions So I'm a little interested

in it That story does seem I've watched a lot

of documentaries a lot of like real sports stories

regarding The story that it's kind of being based

off. So that has me interested but Again, Will

Smith has not had the best luck of late. Hopefully

this can kind of get him back in track though.

I am with you. I had no idea that this was even

a movie. I didn't even know this was going to

be a movie until like a week or two ago. So it

was definitely something under wraps. Now is

this the same film that's getting all the press

about changing parts of it because of something

to do with the NFL? That I have not heard, so

I can't. I want to say that there was some type

of backlash and the movie got edited somewhat,

which hopefully is not true. But it took me a

while during that trailer to realize or to come

to terms with the fact that that was Will Smith

because I'm just not used to hearing him try

to do any other type of accent unless I'm forgetting

a film. Well, in Apple Earth he had unique accents.

I missed that one. Yeah. I was told not to watch

that by people like you. You were correct. People

like you, Dave. People that I respect told me

not to watch that. You were correct. Sony did

alter the film because of NFL. So based upon

hacked emails. There you go. So that's depressing.

But yeah, I mean, I'm with you. I'm intrigued

by that one. I'd like to see how that goes. And

it's got a couple of interesting actors in it.

Always gonna be that sucker that gives Will Smith

another chance and another chance and another

chance even though he disappoints me time and

time and time again. I don't think Focus was

awful, but like he's not been putting out the

the quality stuff he used to on a regular basis.

That's for sure. On the reg. Anything else Amanda

that you want us touch on trailer wise good or

bad? I'm gonna give a yay for Ashby. I think

that looked like a little bit reminiscent of

St. Vincent. It did. But, um... Sucker for Mickey

Rourke, though. Yeah, I thought it looked kind

of fun. Yeah, all I could think of was St. Vincent

the entire time, and just like another person's

turn to try to be the old curmudgeon guy next

door, same as Grant Reno, St. Vincent, and now

we've got Ashby, but it's Mickey Rourke, so whatever,

I'll watch that story again, I guess. His lips

look awful. At times he looks super young compared

to what I'm used to seeing in Mickey Rourke,

and then at times he does not look so hot at

all. But what did you think of Ashby, Dan? Yeah,

I mean, like you guys said, it does seem like

it's a similar story, for sure. And Mickey Bork

doesn't know how to play the old Comunion because,

you know, he pretty much is one. So I don't know.

I'm not as optimistic as you guys, but I'll probably

check it out when it hits video or something

like that. All right. And then if I had to go

with one more that I would throw out there. Man,

it's tough. I think there was a couple that were

intriguing, but I'm not 100 % sold on them. I

do think Youth looks like it should be pretty

good. Michael Caine is obviously always someone

that usually puts a pretty great performance

on the screen. After the trip, I cannot look

at Michael Caine the same way. Obviously there's

a lot of buzz behind films like Carol and the

Danish Girl. I'm intrigued by those films, but

I guess if I want to throw one out there, I'll

throw the fifth wave out there. And I'm actually

going to put an A on that one. It looks like

if the host had been super cool, that's what

it would be. I just, I don't know, I didn't see

anything in there that really got me excited.

All the different waves that the alien You know

life form is gonna It just didn't work for me

overall and I think that was gonna fall flat

so I am a curmudgeon There's never been a doubt

about that. I don't even know if that word means

it just means me Okay, I look in the dictionary.

I'm so see a picture of you probably and make

your work Dan What did you think of the fifth

wave? I did not see the one actually. I missed

okay. You'd be interested, but I don't know I

don't have a lot of hopes for that. It's basically

like this alien force and the first wave was

taking out all of our electricity and then invasion

and then you know infection or some type of disease

and just kind of the different waves that they

were doing to take over the world and this one

group is gonna stop it somehow. It is Liv Shriver

playing the military behind this all. But there

was other trailers like we said for Carol, for

Youth, Love the Coopers, Rock the Casbah. Knock

knock trash paper planes miss you already the

perfect guy and the night before so if you're

excited or angry about one of those trailers

let us know on the website and let us know why

and We'll definitely interact with you there

We're gonna take a short break and then we're

gonna come back with our main attraction Which

is looking forward to the fall and winter movies

of 2015 Hi, this is Greg. This is Chuck. And

this is Dan, and we are Talking in Circles. Because

the world needs another podcast, we are here

as Geekcast Radio's newest edition. And as the

title says, each week we get lost in conversation

about a wide range of topics, including movies,

comics, games, art, TV, and even occasionally

sports. We play games and discuss pivotal topics,

like who would win in a fight, the Kool -Aid

Man or Tony the Tiger, and examine the hot button

issues of the world of geekdom. We keep things

fresh by taking timeless topics in new directions.

We are simply three friends having a fun time

talking about life's most fascinating foibles.

Stay connected with us every Tuesday on iTunes

or at geekcastradio .com Hey guys it's Dr. Masolo

and Hard Candy Mandy and we just wanted to let

you guys know about another podcast out there

that we both think you would all enjoy. It's

one of both of our favorite shows to listen to

and it's none other than the True Bromance podcast.

True Bromance is a movie podcast hosted by longtime

friends Hiro and Barry and if you like to smile,

laugh, and just be genuinely entertained while

listening to movie talk then this is definitely

the right show for you. Each week, the guys break

down a recently released movie, and not only

do they tie in the movie that week to the beers

that they are drinking during the show, but they

also tie it into a real fun top and bottom five

list associated with that movie. It's a blast

hearing both sides of these lists, and it definitely

makes them unique amongst all other movie review

podcasts. So we definitely want to recommend

all of you guys to go check out their show. Just

search out the True Bromance podcast on iTunes,

Stitcher, and all other podcast platforms. And

if you listen via iTunes, do us a favor and leave

them a five -star review. And don't forget to

let them know that the Cinema Geeks sent you.

Alright, thanks for sticking with us. It's time

to look ahead at the movies coming out the rest

of the year We got a ton of stuff coming out

and then Well, you know, I guess this isn't really

the halfway point But it seems like the halfway

point when the summer movie season ends because

there's so many films that do come out in the

fall and in the winter Comparatively, what's

your take so far of 2015 overall and kind of

what's your general? Kind of feel for what's

left This year's been the world that kind of

comes to my mind there's been some good movies

for sure but a little lackluster i'll preface

that by saying i've still not seen a great deal

so i uh i'm maybe not the most educated person

to make that but even that even looking at one

people or have been talking about like looking

at the best of so far list movies that there

there doesn't seem to have the abundance of really

great films that we that i felt we have this

time last year not that there aren't there like

man max of course and i believe in choice the

west so there are those movies out there Coming

up for this year, one thing I do like seeing

is that there are a lot of high -profile directors

that seem to be coming out with movies like Steven

Spielberg, possibly Martin Scorsese. Silence

seems to be every time I hear a different story,

if it's coming out this year or not. But, you

know, David O 'Russell and Zemeckis. There's

Guillermo del Toro. Quentin Tarantino, and there's

another Bond film. Don't forget Ridley Scott.

And Ridley Scott, too. And then there seems to

be a good abundance of big blockbuster films

still coming out, James Bond and Hunger Games

and Star Wars, of course, but even, of course,

the award fanfare type of film. So I do think

this second half does look pretty strong, a good

eclectic combination of both. But again, I don't

see... I I'm wondering like what's gonna be that

movie that comes out of nowhere or like what's

gonna be like the 12 years a slave or her of

this year and I have yet to see it or you have

to really even coming out of can and and those

they know tiff hasn't happened yet, but I Haven't

really seen like the they're heard of the film.

That's supposed to be the film of 2015 yet But

it's still still early to tell but so I'm optimistic

and I'm hoping for a rebound at least for the

second half and I've seen, I don't know, I feel

like I've seen even more films possibly than

last year at this point. And I think my biggest

thing looking at the first half so far was the

diversity that we got. Maybe the quantity might

not be the thing, might not be the strong point

for 2015 maybe compared to some other years,

but I think the quality in different genres and

kind of the diversity we got, you know, from

what we do in the shadows to... you know, with

your sci -fi with Ex Machina, with, you know,

your Mad Max as far as just a blockbuster type

thing. And then you've had some kind of smaller

indie stuff that's resonated with some people.

So, I mean, it seems like Slow West, like you're

talking about in the western genre. You got something

like Straight Outta Compton. uh... and they wrote

with inside out so i mean you you've had a bunch

of things kind of touch on different times that

have worked and then been successful so i can

have a positive you on twenty fifteen i'm i'm

definitely a lot happier with the films i've

seen that i was last year uh... but i can kind

of see where you come from as far as like the

the number that we're getting talked about at

this point you know at this point last year there

was a lot of talk about uh... a bunch of different

films already for you know award -type thing

or best of list and stuff like that uh... looking

ahead The only thing that I can kind of think

of with this year is that just what a success

that this year is going to be probably went all

of a sudden done when it comes to the box office.

You know, I've already said a couple different

times this is going to set a bunch of records

as far as yearly grosses. It's going to have

the most films that make, you know... 200 million,

the most films that make 300, the most films

that make 400, all that type of stuff. And I

think when you put it all together, it's gonna

show a good spike in comparison to recent years

at the box office. So that is a positive thing

for me as far as the state of the theater going

experience. So I hope that can mean some good

things for the theater in general. That's just

kind of my take on it so far. Amanda, what do

you think as far as looking back and looking

ahead? I think there have been some pretty big

disappointments for me. I think I just get super

excited about movies too fast and I don't take

a step back and let things settle before I get

all in for a film. But I also think that I've

been mildly surprised by a few films and I've

liked a few things that I didn't think that I

would have interest in. I think Danny Collins

being you know, one of the biggest, um, one of

my biggest disappointments would probably be,

um, I would say maybe like Age of Ultron and

things like that. I was just gonna say it's funny

that through all this so far we hadn't even mentioned

one of the comic book films and we had Ant -Man

and Age of Ultron and obviously Fantastic Four,

um, and that wasn't even in any of our minds,

I guess, when we were talking about this year

so far. So that's the difference, isn't it, Dan?

Yeah, well I think even the summer overall has

been a little bit... Meh, is kind of the word

that comes to mind. I felt last time we had,

you know, enter tomorrow to Captain America,

Winter Soldier, to Days of Future Past, Rise

of the Earth. Donner the plan of the apes and

overall just thought that summer was really stacked

like there was tons of it and you've garden to

the galaxy this summer in there there have been

hits here and there fast and furious and I Enjoyed

mission impossible than the most recent one,

but even even so the summer blockbuster I think

it's been really even black luster yet. Drastic

world has made a lot of money, but is it I think

adored by a lot of people I don't think so even

people who like it like it but I don't know many

people who love that movie so it is and I mean

usually what you heard was it was better than

expected but not nearly to the level of anything

else and of course we know the debacle that was

fantastic for so we'll see I think next year

we'll probably see a rebound when it comes to

comic book movies just looking at the sheer number

of them that are coming out next year because

this year running at three which is next year,

I think we have six, so. Right, right. Well,

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think

if you're comparing the years, this from a blockbuster

standpoint doesn't stack up. I mean, even from

the from the big names, even to some of the middle

names like the man from Uncle did not do well.

Terminator did not do well. We all know what

Fantastic Four did. I mean, that was almost so

bad. It was like the counselor from a few years

ago. It almost just disappeared. So I mean, from

a from a big time blockbuster, I think you're

completely right on that. outside of Jurassic

World making a ton of money, but I agree with

you. I don't think many people are going to say

that that's the best movie of the year by any

means. So from a blockbuster standpoint, I think

you're 100 % right on with that statement. All

right, anything else as far as just general thoughts

that you wanted to get out there? As far as Amanda,

what did you see for the rest of the year? What's

your thoughts? A positive vibe for what's coming

out still? Yeah, I'm pretty excited for what's

coming out actually. Obviously, You know, I like

horror and stuff, and there's a couple good creepy

films about to come out, including Victor Frankenstein,

just want to throw that out there, Dan, and I

think there's a couple good comedies still to

come out too, and some really good action flicks

as well, so we'll see what's up. All right, so

let's get into our main part here. We're going

to play a game, like I said, that's called What

Are the Chances? And like Dan said, it's basically

we're all just going to make statements. What

are the chances that? And then everybody will

be able to respond with a percentage answer to

what they think the chances of that actually

happening or not happening are going to be. So

hopefully we'll get into some conversations about

some of the movies that are still coming out

for the rest of the year. Dan, why don't you

kick it off, because you're the one with experience

with this whole thing. What's your first thing

that you wanna know what the chances are? Wow,

there's so much to go over. Let's try to pick

one I feel we could all, here we go. So coming

out this year, still is legend starring Tom Hardy.

What are the chances that Tom Hardy actually

gets nominated twice for an Oscar for the same

film? Okay, from the Academy, I'm gonna say the

chances are probably about zero. But in any type

of film circle or cinephile group, I think when

people are doing their best performances, I'd

say about 50 % of the time, people are going

to put both performances on their list. I think

film spotting will pick both performances. What

about you, Amanda? I'm going to give it, I want

to say 95%. I think that people are really going

to, you know, receive Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy

very well. I think it's going to be a good time

and I think that people are going to put their

performances back to back. Do you think the Academy

will? The Academy? See, I'm not good at the Oscar

Academy thing. I'm not really sure. A bunch of

old white men. A bunch of old white men that

probably... Won't like it as much as Our circle

I would say just just in line with what you said

Kevin. All right, Dan. What do you think are

the chances of that? Yeah, I'm gonna go with

I don't know if that's ever happened before.

It might have. Or if there's some rule of saying

it can't. Yeah, I'll go with 10 % chance that

it would happen. If anyone would do it, it'd

be someone the likes of Tom Hardy. But I do see

people when they make their best of lists that

somehow he'll get nominated twice. Or watch it

be where the one performance is really good,

but the other one isn't. He'd be like, no. He

was good in the one roll. But they're supposed

to be completely different people. So we'll have

to see how that works out. I got an interesting

one that I want to put out there because I think

one of the biggest shocks this year so far has

been the fact that currently Jurassic World took

out Avengers at the box office and not even in

a close manner. I mean, it's almost 200 million

more than Avengers. So I guess based on how crazy

successful Jurassic World was, my question is,

what are the chances that star wars the force

awakens actually loses the box office battle

to jurassic world for number one overall for

the whole year i'm gonna say slim to none do

i have to present to that so you're gonna say

single digits that uh there's no way all you

nerds are gonna let star wars Not beat out Jurassic

World. Jurassic World's already been re -released

into theater the same year it came out. They

took it out and then they put it back. To be

fair, so was Mad Max, but Mad Max is getting

re -released in IMAX, which is kind of exciting.

Yeah, that's true. But in line with what Dan

said, I think that it got, you know, banged out

in the box office, but I don't think it was as

quality as the other films. And I think Star

Wars... Definitely it's gonna give itself a run

for its money because I think it's gonna be a

great Great episode Dan 646 million has nothing

to sneeze at. Yeah, and look you mentioned this

summer is stacked So I don't think it's a slam

dunk that it's going to Beat it as handily as

people make it out to be. I mean look at what

Jurassic World right now is what top three all

-time top. So it's obviously it's going against

Star Wars, but you know there's there's a possibility

that it doesn't so i will say the chances of

it not uh beating star war beating drastic world

is 30 so definitely on the lower end but i don't

necessarily think it's a slam dunk just because

of the amount of competition it is the holidays

the first time a star wars film is being released

that time of year and i mean so was avatar and

that was the biggest movie of all time so i don't

know what that means but Far in the giving Christmas

spirit. True, true. So I think it will, but I'll

give it a little bit less of a chance than people

may expect. I completely understand what you're

saying, because I think as much as everybody

wants to say Star Wars has been predicted to

win the box office since... Before the year we

began there's all kinds of hype you have you

know the director obviously involved you have

nothing so far negative Associated with with

the marketing or the hype or anything, but man

646 million is a ton of money And you never know

what's gonna happen with word -of -mouth or something

like that But I mean I do think Star Wars Star

Wars will win But I'm gonna say that there's

at least a 20 % chance that Jurassic World somehow

holds out with like you said the competition

and just that Phenomenal number that it's put

up so far. So 20 % chance that Star Wars loses

the box office battle. Amanda, what do you got?

Well, I want to preface my what are the chances

all of them actually With saying your guys's

I think are a lot more Sophisticated than mine.

It's about you know, the Academy box office,

you know all this stuff But I want to bust out

the gate and say what are the chances that there's

cannibalism in Everest? Dan, what are the chances

that we witness cannibalism in the movie? Man,

one could only hope. The sad thing is, again,

that's one that I saw the actual story behind,

so I feel like I'm cheating. But you know, they

probably would change this thing, so I'll go

with 5%, just because maybe they want to, you

know, rack it up the tension a little bit, or

maybe someone gets hungry and wants to nod on

their own arm, maybe. Who knows? But I'll go

with 5 % chance it happens. I'm going to go with

a 0 % chance, and that's only because personally

I don't want to see that. So I'm hoping for a

0 % chance that we see that in that movie. What

about you, Amanda? One of the chances I think

I'm gonna go a little bit hopeful on this and

I'm gonna say at least 35 % chance that you know

they get desperate and somebody gets eaten. I

like that you said you're gonna get hopeful.

I want to see this happen. I want the attention

to be. You're a morbid individual. You should

watch it live. There are movies where you can

watch that happen. I mean they do exist. Oh my

goodness. Dan let's change the topic very quickly.

Okay, yeah. There you go. before I start getting

my arm nod on or something. Well, speaking of

kind of more off the wall, this is one that,

for those that don't know, Kevin was not a huge

fan of Birdman that came out last year. What?

Yeah, I know. And Alejandro Interito is coming

out with another movie this year. So what are

the chances that Kevin hates it so much he walks

out before the movie's actually over? uh... well

i mean i can i can make sure i'm right on this

one uh... i think zero percent chance because

even if the movie is fucking horrible kevin is

going to sit through it hey we stopped something

what did we want we stopped it because we were

at home we're not going to walk out of it uh...

the bigger thing would be what are the chances

that i actually go to the theater to see that

no i will uh... i'm i'm gonna spoil that one

and say there's a zero percent chance i walk

out uh... i did not walk out of birdman i'm not

going to walk out of the revenant i'll fall asleep

before i walk out she might fall asleep but i

I will be there though and I will not be asleep.

So I'll go with a 0 % chance Dan, but I could

be wrong What do you think? I'll go with like

2 % Maybe like something specifically happens

where it's like no if it's crushing my dream.

So I'm gonna go It ends up being like a six -hour

movie. So it's like Nice. I'm going to stay on

that type of thing. You said something about

me. I'm going to say something about Amanda here.

So far, we've learned about her through the different

Cinema Geek episodes on her love of the supernatural

and of zombies and of horror films. Not zombie

boobies. And all that type of stuff. So I'm going

to say, Dan, what are the chances that Crimson

Peak at the end of the year is Amanda's number

one film of the year? I don't know. I'm not sure

how you feel about... Del Toro's other horror

films because he's got a certain style that is

different She has at least four of his films.

Guillermo del Toro is one of my favorite actors.

It's like Wes Craven and Guillermo del Toro.

Okay, I'll go with 60 % then. 60 % chance it's

her favorite film of the year. Just some good

odds. I'm gonna go 75. What do you think? I'm

going to say 100 % chance. She's already crowning

it. It's going to will to happen, yeah. I'm so

ready for this movie to come out. All right,

Amanda, what do you got next? OK, what are the

chances that they actually do bring Matt Damon

home in The Martian? Oh. Dan, you start. You

bring him home. I mean, we can't leave Matt Damon

in space. I mean, he's an American icon. of shit

out of so much yeah i will say random guess here

let's go with let's go with 75 percent maybe

he's the only one left alive but i'm going to

go with that he survives so 75 chance of that

i'm going to take the cheap way out because i

have no clue which way they'll go with that and

i'm going to go right in the middle 50 50 so

i'll say there's a 50 chance he makes that there's

a 50 percent chance he doesn't what do you think

amanda I think I'm going to give it about 75

-80 % chance that they're going to make it feel

good and make him come home to his family. He's

probably gonna be like super old or something

crazy, but he'll make it back. He's gonna pull

an interstellar in age? He did, yeah. All right.

All right, Dan, is it back to you? Yeah, it's

back to me. So talking about actors, how about

Johnny Depp? And he's in a movie coming out this

year called The Black Bass. And obviously Johnny

Depp has kind of had the Wilma Smith syndrome

lately and not making great things like transcendence

and other things. So... there has been good buzz

with the black bass he's playing an actual human

being so what are the chances that johnny dab

gets his career back on track with his latest

film he looks like he maybe could be an alien

or something else he doesn't look totally like

a human being in this though because he looks

creepy as shit true true but To be honest the

guy he's playing was very creepy as shit so it

does at least fit the role in this in this case

so I'm gonna say that there's a 70 % chance that

He gets good reviews for this film and people

get off his back for at least one film I know

he's an easy target right now for a lot of people

But I'm gonna say at least a 70 % chance that

that he's at least his role in this film even

if the film maybe Isn't the film might not be

perfect and people might find false with the

film But I think it's going to be one of those

where they say but Johnny Depp was good in it

And that was one of the bright spots so 70 %

I want to pull Kevin and say 75 % chance and

then he gets his career back on track with Black

Mask What do you think Dan? I'm gonna go a little

higher. I'm gonna go 80 % I'm gonna put faith

in Johnny Depp which might come back to bite

me and say that maybe he's kind of realized that

he has been wasting his talent all these years

doing prior to the Canterbury and films and working

with Tim Burton so knowing neither of those are

happening maybe we'll see the real Johnny Depp

really finally return because he's a legit actor

he can really do it so hopefully this brings

it back to it. I agree, and I think I appreciate

you one -upping Amanda after she one -upped me.

So 70, 75, 80. I've watched Price is Right. I

know how this goes. One penny over. I like it.

All right. I hate those people. Let's stay with

the actors then, and I'll give one more that

likes to get talked about a lot, especially when

it comes to award time. And he's still searching.

So I'm going to say, since Dan already brought

up the Revenant, what are the chances that Leonardo

DiCaprio wins an Oscar for Revenant Dan. Man,

that's tough. With Michael Fassbender being in

a Shakespeare film, that should unlikely win

the Oscar again. So I'm actually, whatever it

is, I feel like Johnny Depp is like the... Peter

O'Toole of our generation. He's gonna be nominated

but never win. So I'm gonna say 20 % You mean

DiCaprio, right? Yeah, sorry DiCaprio. A lot

of names getting thrown out there Yeah, I'm gonna

say DiCaprio has a 20 % chance of winning an

Oscar. I'm not saying he's not gonna deserve

it, but I'm gonna say he doesn't get it What

do you think Amanda? Ah Dan, that was a really

good answer I'm going to I would say 45 % chance,

because I think that there's a couple people

in Macbeth that are going to blow their performances

out of the water. So I think that maybe he will

get nominated. But like Dan said, I don't think

he's going to get it. Well, I could go the easy

route, because how many nominees are there usually,

Dan? Five? Five, correct. All right, so I'm going

to go 20 % chance. because he's going to be one

of the five nominees. But with Tom Hardy getting

nominated twice, I don't know how that works

out. Oh, that could be. So we've got Tom Hardy

and Michael Fassbender. No, Fassbender could

get nominated twice because he has that and Steve

Jobs coming out, so who knows. It might actually

just be Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender winning

Oscars this year for everything. That would make

me want to watch even more just for the spectacle

of all that. So yeah, I'm going to go with 20

% chance that DiCaprio finally wins an Oscar.

What do you think, Amanda? What's your next?

What are the chances? What are the chances that

there is too much badassness in Sicario? I mean,

you got Emily Blonde, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh

Brolin. So too much badassness to make it a good

movie? Too much badassness. No, no, no. Like,

your mind just gets blown with badassness. You

can't even take it all in because there's just

so much badassness flying in your face. Badassness

or creepiness? Badassness. It's like a hitman

movie, bro. Sometimes Vinisha Del Toro and Josh

Brolin can give you that creep vibe though. Not

creepy, like scary. Scary the fact that they

might just kill you with a pen. I don't know

how to answer this one. didn't help me out with

it what do you think well i i i i think of a

pretty high level of amount of badassness i can

take and so i want to go with uh... fifteen percent

because i feel like i can take a lot of badassness

which i don't know if the good or bad thing but

we're all excited to take double dose of tom

hardy i don't know if i can compete with that

so i'm gonna say yeah i'm going to end it's uh...

it's about ten ten to fifteen percent chance

that you're okay with all the status yeah i'm

i'm ready for it i'm ready too I think 0 % chance

there's too much badassness. I don't think you

can get too much badassness in a movie. All right.

Dan, what do you got next? Well, coming out later

this year, we also have a Peanuts film. But this

time, it's making its way to CGI route. So going

against the classic animation Peanuts has been

in previously. So my question is, what are the

chances that Peanuts can work in a new animated

format? I'm going to say it's got a much higher

chance than the Scooby -Doo movie on the live

action on the big screen. Whatever, shut your

mouth. I love the live action Scooby -Doo movies.

No, this isn't going to be live action. No, it's

literally just animated Scooby -Doo on the big

screen. Yikes. But anyways, back to Peanuts.

At first I was a big skeptic, but after seeing

what's come out so far and... the little teasers

and trailers and whatnot that we've seen for

Peanuts. I think it does work. I don't know how

much of a crowd or fan base there is for Peanuts

with where we're at right now. But the marketing

for it is... Yeah, I think it's going to be...

I'd say that there's a... I'll go with the 80

% chance that it works and that it translates

well into this arc. Into this format so to speak

so 80 % chance that it works for the for the

franchise. What about you Amanda? I'm gonna get

a 95 % because just of how well the chipmunks

did I think that Kids are really gonna take to

it All right, Dan, what do you think? Yeah, I

think there are there is still a place for peanuts

because I do think it's still a big event when

you have the peanuts for Thanksgiving and Christmas

and I still think that's something that kids

today do Even you know, they have so much else

to go for that. They do make time for that So

and I think ultimately it looks good it they

were able to kind of mesh both of the classic

look with the new school look so I'm high as

well. So I'm gonna go 90 % that it ends up working

maybe won't be as financially successful as something

like inside out, but I think it'll at least do

well enough and be a quality film, maybe even

get a nomination for best animated feature. Alright,

I like it. I'm gonna stick with the route of

older properties then being redone and I'm gonna

go to the world of Gem and the Holograms and

my question is what are the chances that Gem

and the Holograms gets less than 10 % on Rotten

Tomatoes, Dan? Man less than 10 % that's been

happening a lot lately. It's hard to do though.

Ah I'm gonna go with It I think it makes it more

of like a 15 to 20. So that's what I'll say I

think it has a 15 % chance of baking less than

10 % All right, you are you are Much more optimistic

about that than I am. I'm going to say that there

is a 90 % chance that it's less than 10%. A 90

% chance that it's in single digits on Rotten

Tomatoes. Amanda, what do you think as far as

gem and holograms? I think the tweens are actually

going to eat this up. I don't know what the Rotten

Tomatoes critics are going to give it. I don't

really know how that works as far as the rating

system. So I'm going to give it It's less than

10 % I'll go with you and your cheat and do 50

-50. Okay, so we're all over the board of that

90 50 and what did you say Dan 15? It's a 15

percent. It doesn't yeah, and I know more than

positive end All right. We're all across the

board on that one then Amanda you got another

one Yes, I do. What are the chances I'll get

the full -on feels in The Intern? The Intern

with De Niro? Yeah. Well, you get the feels in

a lot of films, so... I don't know about that

one, though. What do you mean? I didn't see it.

Well, maybe. I'll say that there's a 60 % chance

you get emotional in that film. Okay. I feel

like you have kind of... You know, like you said,

with Crimson Peak, you're willing to happen,

so maybe this one will be the same thing. So

I'll go 90%. It may be going in. Though maybe

you'll anticipate it too much, but I'll say 90%.

Yeah, I think I'm going to give myself an 80

% chance to get the feels on this because I think

there's definitely room for me to at least shed

like a single tear or at least like my eyes well

up a little bit. But hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

All right, Dan, you got some left? I do, I do.

So we do have another James Bond movie coming

out with Spectre, and I think this is what? Daniel

Craig's fourth film, I believe? So what are the

chances that this is Daniel Craig's last Bond

movie, and then the next Bond film we have a

new actor? Oof, that's tough. There's been so

many names being thrown around already to replace

him. I don't know what his personal feelings

are. I haven't meant to... kept up with the media

and interviews with him, so to speak. But man,

four Bond films, that's a lot of time in your

life devoted to that. I think maybe he'll think

it's time for something else and hopefully on

a high note. So I'm going to say that there is

a 75 % chance that this is his last Bond film.

What do you think, Amanda? I think the same.

I think that he is going to try to branch out,

but I think that there is still room for him

maybe playing another Bond film, if he gets the

right script. All right, so we're both at 75%,

Dan, what do you think? I'm gonna go with 20

% of his last Bond film, because I feel like

he's gonna do one more. The way that the story's

going with the Bond franchise currently, I feel

like the specter is gonna lead to one final film.

It's kind of... put it all together. Especially

if Sam Mendes comes back. I was going to say,

do you think there's a chance that Mendes comes

back? That I'm less sure about. I think there's

less of a chance of him coming back. I thought

he even mentioned that this will be his last...

He said Skyfall, or he said the film before Skyfall.

I don't know, Skyfall was supposed to be his

only one. Yeah, and then they were able to kind

of get him to come back. So I think... Craig

will have one more and I mean he is up there

was what born in 68 so he you know, he's not

a spring chicken anymore, but You know Roger

Moore did it totally. He was like 75 years old.

So but So I think he has one more after this

and then he he Gives it off to somebody else,

but he's been doing it since 2006 So maybe he'll

make it like a 10 or 11 year run which will I

think still not put him in number one because

I don't know how Roger Moore was doing it for.

He was up there since like 70s to the early 80s,

but maybe we'll try to break that record. But

I don't know. I think he has one more in him.

It's my guess. Okay. Interesting. I think I'd

be fine for that as well as Spector does well.

So I'm going to go with the same kind of route

here. I'm going to say what are the chances that

Spector actually gets more is better received.

higher praised, higher Rotten Tomatoes, or better

reviewed, however you want to do it. Well, what's

the chance that Spectre ends up being more loved

than Skyfall was, Dan? Man, that I'm a little

less sure about. I feel like that's gonna just

not... More loved is a challenge. I think I'll

be positively praised, but I don't think it'll

be to the level of Skyfall, so I will say 20

% chance that it ends up being more loved than

Skyfall. Okay, we'll skip Amanda on this one

since she hasn't seen skyfall Yeah, it's a tough

it's a tough thing to I think the problem with

this one is a lot more anticipation behind specter

because of skyfall and So I think that'll play

into people's critique on it that there will

be a little bit more to some not maybe disappointment

but people that are putting the bar way higher

than it's possible to reach. So I think that

kind of plays into it. So I don't know if it'll

be more love than Skyfall. I think it's got a

lot to live up to. So I'm going to be right around

where you're at, Dan. I'm going to say it's only

about a 25%, 30 % chance that it's more love

than Skyfall. Amanda? My next one? Yes. What

are the chances Hugh Jackman is going to be a

better villain in Pam than his khaki short -worn

self in Chappie? Can we go higher than 100? Yeah,

I'm at 100 then. Because if he's not better than

he was in Champy, then I don't know. That means

bad things for that film for sure. 100 % chance

that Hugh Jackman is better in Pan than he was

in Champy. I will agree. 100%. And I also agree,

100 % Jay. All right. Dan, that makes it back

to you. All righty. Well, what are the chances

that David O 'Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, and

Bradley Cooper keep their Oscar streak going?

Currently, the last two films, Silver Linings,

Playbook, American Hustle, they were all nominated

for Oscars. What are the chances with Joy that

streak continues? Man, are you asking what are

the chances that all of them are done? Yeah,

all of them would be nominated for best actor

best actress and best director because the last

two films that has happened so it would be a

Phenomenal streak and I think at this point Cooper's

been nominated the last three years in a row

or two years? I would say if it was just that

one of them is going to be nominated or two of

them that it would be a pretty high chance. I

think Bradley Cooper would have his work cut

out for him since we're loading up the category

with multiple nominations for Fassbender and

Tom Hardy. So it's going to be hard for Bradley

Cooper to get in there. So I'm going to go with

a fairly low percent there. I think David O 'Russell

has a shot, but I think the other two are going

to struggle to get in there for that film. So

the film maybe, but not the actors and actresses.

So I'm going to go with like a 10 % chance that

they make the trifecta. What about you, Amanda?

You guys just haven't really good answers, and

then I want them after you say them. So I'm going

to say 15 % chance for the same reasons Kevin

just gave. Dan what do you think actually I'm

gonna go a little higher and I don't disagree

that the competition is gonna be tight but we've

seen in the past when it comes to the Academy

they tend to latch on to certain people and then

it's like They ride that wave even longer than

they should and people get nominated when maybe

they shouldn't so I will say that I'm gonna go

with 60 % chance that they end up all getting

nominated again because Maybe some people just

do it by default, but I have a feeling it's gonna

happen All right What are the chances that the

Academy forgives Eddie Redmayne for his Jupiter

Ascendants performance and nominates him for

the Danish Girl? Man, forgives is a... I'm gonna

go, like you said... Or ignores the Jupiter Ascending

performance? Like you said, there's a lot going

on this year and since he already won last year

and he's still a pretty young actor, I think

they'll try to maybe spread the love, so I think

there's maybe a... 10 % chance he gets another

nomination this year, even if it's deserving

or not just the politics of all What about you

Amanda any chances gets a repeat nomination after

last year? I I'm gonna segue into my next one

instead of answering that What are the chances

Eddie Redmayne kills it as a chick in the Danish

girl? I think he's got everything that he needs

to to pull that role off. Yeah, I think I think

for the Danish girl He might get a nomination

just because of how the social climate is now

with Caitlyn Jenner, what's her name? Caitlyn

sure Caitlyn Jenner. I think that social media

and everybody's really blowing that whole kind

of topic. It's definitely the type of role that

gets nominations from time to time. Yeah, I think

he's going to get nominated for it. Alright,

and so what yours was just what the percentage

is that he's gonna kill it as a girl? I mean,

I'd say there's like an 80 % chance that he pulls

that off pretty successfully Dan. What do you

think? Yeah, I'll go probably 95 % because I

think He kind of has to at this point even if

he went back and we shot things after Jupiter

sending came out I'm gonna go with 95 % chance

it ends up being a good performance All right.

I only have a few more left. I don't know about

you guys dandy got one or two left I do. We do

have another Steve Jobs movie coming out this

year, again, as we mentioned, starring Michael

Fassbender. What are the chances this Steve Jobs

movie is better than the other Jobs movies starring

Aston Kutcher? This is the one that people were

looking forward to more back when they were supposed

to, I believe, originally come out almost identical

time periods. This one's dealt with a bunch of

changes and... delays and stuff like that, which

is usually not a good sign for films, but Michael

Fassbender over Ashton Kutcher, I'm gonna say

that there's a 60, let's go 70 % chance that

this is better than the other one. I'm gonna

go with a 70 % chance. Amanda? Well, I want you

to stop going before me, because you keep stealing

everything that I wanna say. Michael Fassbender

effect, so boy, I'm 75 % better than the Ashton

Kutcher jam. All right, Dan, what do you think?

I'll add that and say 90 % because you also have

a script written by Aaron Sorkin and it's being

directed by Danny Boyle. It's not impossible

for Danny Boyle to make a bad movie, but I'm

holding out hope with the script by Danny Boyle

or with the script by Aaron's working because

I feel like from what I'm hearing with the Primus,

it's going to allow to avoid a lot of the classic

biopic cliches that the other one had. And again,

better talent available. And if Michael Fassbender

can't out act, as in Kutcher, I don't want to

live in this world anymore. So let's go with

95%. That's the best thing ever said on this

podcast. All right All right We got another film

that's coming out this year that we haven't talked

about yet and that is the hateful eight from

Quentin Tarantino and since we are in the process

or just concluding our tentant Jesus our Tarantino

retrospective. We got to talk about this a little

bit. So the hateful eights coming out I know

the trailer didn't necessarily get everybody

as excited as maybe they had hoped So my question

is will the hateful eight? be Tarantino's first

film that is both, well, is a bomb considering

that the box office or as far as the reviews

go, is it gonna be his worst reviewed film and

take over that spot or is it gonna be successful?

So Dan, what are the chances that it's his worst

film? I'm gonna go 20 % that it ends up being

his worst film because... Even though I didn't

think the trailer was phenomenal, I still think

it would still be a solid film. And it's always

hard to tell with Tarantino films when it comes

to trailers because they tend not to reflect

what the actual movie is going to be like. So

I'll go 20 % rather low. OK. What about you,

Amanda? Let's say 30%. I'm going to update in

a little bit. Because the trailer didn't look

great to me, but I don't think it's going to

be his absolute worst film. I think his streak's

gonna continue and he'll just continue to put

out films that are well -received. I mean, you

could talk about his worst film and it would

still be like, you know, whatever, eight out

of ten or, you know, seven and a half or something

out of ten. So they're all good and I think that

this one will continue that streak of being good.

So I don't think it's gonna be his worst film.

I think there's only about a 15 % chance that

it's actually a bomb for him. Amanda, you got

one left? Yeah, what are the chances I'll have

to go to the gym after watching Creed? Well,

we went after Southpaw so I'm gonna say there's

a hundred percent chance that after Creed we're

headed to the gym And with that soundtrack, I

mean if they play the classic Rocky theme, I

think it's a possible not to so let's go high

75 % What do you think of me now, 100 %? Oh yeah,

I feel like just watching the trailer I'm like

pumped and then Rocky starts talking and I'm

like, yeah man, I gotta put a great sweatsuit

on and just go fucking running to Eye of the

Tiger right now. Alright, Dan, back to you. Alright,

one movie we're going to talk about is the movie

In the Heart of the Sea, which is actually supposed

to come out earlier in this year. I think it

was March or so, but they pushed it back to December

or January for, sorry, to December for an awards

push. So what are the chances that strategy pays

off and In the Heart of the Sea actually ends

up taking home an Oscar or award nomination?

Oof, man, um... I had a lot of hope for that

one doing pretty well, and I think it's coming

out in the right season, so I'm gonna say that

there's at least a 50 % chance that that comes

home with a nomination, so a 50 % chance nomination.

Oh, let me, 51 % chance. There's more of a chance

that it does than it doesn't. I don't even know

what movie that is. It's with Thor trying to

fight movie dick, basically. Oh, okay. She's

on board. What are the chances it gets a nomination?

I would say 56 % chance it does get a nomination

because I want Thor to get a nomination. And

I think that this performance could be his foot

in the door. Alright. Dan, what do you think

about it? I actually want to go last because

I feel like it's going to be a very crowded year

near the end and it's coming out with not...

that far ahead of Star Wars, not that far ahead

of the Hefool 8, and other things coming out

around that time as to Macbeth, so we've seen

this in the past where they've tried to finagle

films and put them in certain places, and then

it ends up not working at times, so I'm gonna

think it actually ends up being a bad move, and

it ends up... So more of a 40 % chance because

if you look at last year, Grand Budapest Hotel

came out around the same time and ended up getting

a nomination. So because it had more attention,

now being a more crowded film, it's not going

to get that. So I'll say 40 % chance that it

ends up getting in the Best Picture nomination.

And maybe get some technical awards or something

like that. But I don't know if it'll get the

Best Picture nod. Okay, I got one here and that

is what are the chances that at some point in

December I have to file bankruptcy? Maybe we

have Star Wars the force awakens we have the

Christmas Lineup right now is point break daddy's

home. Whatever that is concussion the hatefully

the revenant Snowden and joy That's just on Christmas

Day. So between those and the 16 times that I'm

gonna have to see Star Wars What are the chances

that I don't have enough money to make it to

the new year, Amanda? Well, I'm going to say...

I don't know. I do have the movie pass now. You

do have the movie pass. I can only use it once

on Christmas Day, though. I feel like if you're

spending too much money on movies, I'll just

lock you in the shed. So I'm gonna say... 30

% chance that you have to file bankruptcy. And

get a new girlfriend. A lot of those movies that

are coming out on Christmas Day tend to come

out on Christmas Day in like four theaters in

New York City so maybe you'll get kind of lucky

in that realm. So I'll go 20 % maybe you would

People listening to this will be in the Christmas

spirit and send you gift cards to your local

theater. Please do, people. Send all of us Christmas

gift cards to go see at least, we can each go

see one of these movies. Amanda, are you out

of your list? I have one more. Okay, what's your

last one? One of the chances scorched trials

would be better than the first Maze Runner. That's...

Dan, I'll let you go first. Man, I did actually

watch the first one last month sometime. It was

on HBO. Oh, man, better? That's a good word to

use. I didn't hate that. That movie was okay.

It's just not for me. I'm going to go with 15

% just because I don't think it... Once you leave

the premise of your entire story, it tends to

go downhill. So I'm going to go with 15 % chance.

I didn't hate the first film, but I think the

whole intrigue of the first film was the setting.

So now that they're out of there, I'm with Dan.

I think there's like a 10 % chance it's better.

What do you think, Amanda? I think it looks better

than the first one, as far as the action stuff

goes. But I do think you're right. The cat has

been let out of the bag, so we'll see how it

does. All right. Dan, one left. All right, well,

my last one I figure it's a movie that we have

to talk about. It's this little indie, what's

it called, Star Wars, episode seven. And it's

more of a general question, but there's a lot

of hype going in the Star Wars. It's just based

upon the title, the trailer, a lot of buildup.

So what are the chances it actually can live

up to all that hype that it has going for it?

Amanda, what do you think? Is it going to live

up to the hype? What chance? I think there's

an 80 % chance it'll live up to the hype. Alright,

I am going to let the fanboy and me speak as

I look at the Star Wars action figures that were

just purchased for me this last week. And I have

both Vett and Darth Vader pointing weapons at

me. So I'm gonna go with a 90 % chance that it

lives up to the hype. I'm what I'm not gonna

I hope I'm not wrong. Yes. Yeah, I want to hand

I'm loving everything I'm coming out of it from

the trailers to that great Vignette they had

and comic -con kind of showing the making of

and it seems like it's coming from a really thoughtful

place and a place where people making us really

have a fondness for the product but part of me

is also worried sometimes that can backfire and

you know sometimes having something you love

and you end up not being able to handle that

pressure so I'm a little bit worried I'm still

pretty positive so I'm gonna say 80 % but just

that little bit you know there's a lot of hype

there though it's almost a losing battle just

because of what you put up against but I think

if Anyone could do it. It is JJ Abrams because

he is a person who has taken on really well -known

franchises, of course. So I'll say 80%. All right.

My last one is also Star Wars related. It's a

similar question, but I'll word it a little bit

differently. And mine is, what are the chances

that Star Wars The Force Awakens actually not

only lives up to the hype, but goes on to be

considered the best Star Wars film of all time?

so far? Beating out, The Empire Strikes Back,

Return of the Jedi, A New Hope, all of them,

and vaults ahead of all of those? Because that's

a task in and of itself. So what are the chances

that it actually passes all of them to be considered

the best Star Wars film so far ever made, Dan?

I'll let Amanda go first so I don't steal her

answer. Yes, thank you for being so considerate,

Dan. I want to say 75 % because I think that

there is a lot of the nostalgia. So I think people,

they already have their favorite Star Wars movie.

So this coming out might not, you know... live

up to that as much as it's going to satisfy their

Star Wars need. Case in point, Kevin over here.

But I think there's also such a large new fan

base that it definitely could overtake. What

do you think, Dan? Man, I feel like for a certain

generation I could see that happening for. So

maybe for people kind of... getting exposed to

the Star Wars franchise to start off or anybody

that's only saw the first three. Yeah, exactly.

Exactly. Or those who kind of saw the first three

first and then, you know, that were never in

a world where there were more when there are

less than six Star Wars, you know, when so I

could see that possibly happen. I think overall,

though, if you look at, you know, the history

of cinema per se, you know, best of list, I don't

think the chance is all that great, even if it's.

Warranted, you know, sometimes just being first

ends up having that longing impact and it is

the place where it was made It's gonna have that

going for it without that. You would not have

what came after it. So I'm gonna go less. I'm

gonna go 40 % chance. It ends up being the best

Star Wars it just because it you know Empire

Stripe back is not on a movie that's legitimately

in the conversation of best movie of all, you

know top 10 movie of all time at least American

film, so that's a lot to live up to for any director.

So I'm gonna pull back a little bit for that

for me and say 40%. I'm gonna pull back even

a little more surprisingly and I'm gonna say

there's only probably about a 25 % chance that

that happens. I think it's real hard to live

up to the originals and it will be no matter

what they do. I think it will, like you said,

for some... Certain generations or certain age

groups, but I think overall when you're looking

at film history I don't think a lot of people

10 20 years from now will rank it ahead of those

other ones unless it's just Absolutely and like

perfect. So I'm gonna say that there's only about

a 25 % chance I think what also is gonna hurt

it too is the fact that there's so many star

Star Wars movies coming out that yeah It's gonna

lose that ability to be unique because there's

gonna be another Star Wars woman in six months

So it's it's already looking to the next one.

So is it gonna happen? that logging impact that

empire strike back does or star wars original

does that i'm not sure unless it's looked at

as the first of all of those maybe somehow get

some credit for that we'll have to wait and see

so that hopefully touched on a lot of the films

that are coming out still in 2015 but just in

case we haven't covered some we're gonna give

each of our hosts here a chance to list their

top five or three depending on what you guys

did but which films you're most anticipating

for the rest of the way Dan you got three or

five I'll go with five and these were kind of

hard to order but we'll see All right for number

five for me is it actually is Steve Jobs Mainly

because I'm a sucker for Aaron Sorkin's writing.

I love West Wing Danny Boyle I like him as a

director and of course Michael Fassbender so

and I think it has a chance of being really great.

So I'm gonna go with that for my number five

for my number four I'm gonna go. I don't know

why but I really have Strong feelings for the

revenant. I think it's gonna be great. I think

it might be one of the best films of the year

The trailer blew me away. So that's my number

four. My number three is It feels weird putting

this at three, but just the trailer behind me

a little bit hesitant So I went down for me and

that is the hateful eight If you listen to the

Tarantino retrospective, you know, I'm Tarantino

fan So how could it not be here? Number two for

me is Star Wars just everything I'm seeing about

it. I'm like you more and more and number one

is Spectre, and I love Skyfall. It legitimately,

every time I've watched it, I liked it more.

I loved everything about it. I thought Sam Mandy's

really brought that genre to the genre of James

Bond, and that's a new level. So I'm super excited

for that. I don't think it'll be a great film.

I'm not saying it's gonna be Oscar nominated

or anything like that, but if it's just pure

excitement, I'm gonna go number one for that

for me. It's been my number one since the year

started, and... Staying true. Staying true. I'm

looking forward to Kristoff Waltz being a Bond

villain. That's gonna be a lot of fun. Yeah,

that is for sure. Amanda, what do you got? What

are your most anticipated films the rest of the

way? I think you need to go first because I need

to give my top ten in order to not get hate mail.

Okay. Man, this is hard. This is a state of affairs

as far as the rest of the year. There are so

many films that I'm looking forward to that it's

almost impossible for me to narrow this down.

I'm gonna leave something off no matter what.

I'm going to somehow leave Spectre off of it,

even though it should be in my top five, but

I just can't find room right now. So my number

five is going to be Macbeth. Fast Spinner Effect

and Shakespeare, that's all I need. So five would

be Macbeth. Four, I'm staying true to something

I said early on in the year. I don't care what

medium it's coming out on. I'm still looking

forward to Beasts of No Nation. We didn't talk

about it yet, but Idris Elba on the Netflix.

straight to Netflix film, Beast of No Nation.

I'm looking forward to it because I'm a huge

fan of his. So that's my number four. Three,

I know I'm probably the only one in this camp

and I'm gonna be let down but I'm still looking

forward to Bridge of Spies from Spielberg and

Tom Hanks because I'm a sucker for those individuals

as well as the content of the film. And then

I'm gonna be boring the rest of the way and go

hateful eight with my number two pick and Star

Wars The Force Awakens at number one. Good picks.

What are yours? Alright, so I'm going to do my

list in the top ten because things that I feel

like are in my top five won't give me enough

credit and I might be sleeping on the couch tonight

if I don't. So number ten, I've got Point Break,

don't judge me. Number nine, I've got Sisters,

I really want a good comedy coming out and I

think that looks awesome. Number eight, The Night

Before, always a sucker for JGL movies, especially

comedies. that look like that. Number seven,

Victor Frankenstein. Yes, Dan, it's on my list

here. Hey, I'm not saying it's a bad movie. I'm

looking forward to it too. I just don't know

if it's going to be financially successful, to

be fair. Okay, I'll agree with that. Number six,

Star Wars. Yes, at number six. That's why you

had to get 10. Yeah. Number five, I've got Suffragette.

I get the straight feels from that preview every

time, and I think that's really going to touch

home with me. Number four, I've got Pan. I've

been really looking forward to this for a long

time. Number three, The Last Witch Hunter. I

do love me some Vin Diesel, and this genre is...

Right in my camp here number two. I've got Hunger

Games and Mockingjay part two. I love it number

one Crimson Peak of course All right, there's

not too many bad picks in there. Too many bad

picks. I don't like how you said that. All right,

Dan, in closing, anything that we did not mention

as far as films going out the rest of the year

that we think we should at least give a mention

to for our own credibility. Man, there probably

are, to be honest. There's so much going on.

It's hard to tell. Nothing really... I think

we had... Well, we talked about Everest with

the cannibalism. We did. that we talked about

Sicario with badassness. I think a couple films

have already been bumped to 2016. Hopefully they

weren't on our most anticipated list. I did have

a few. My number two, I think, has been bumped.

Yeah, I'm looking at my favorite of the most

anticipated. There's a lot that has been bumped

to 2016. Yeah, I just... I am wondering if Jane

Got a Gun actually comes out because that movie

has had such... horrific making of like directors

leaving and writers leaving it's been insane

so it's supposed to come out last year in August

now it's coming out this December so we'll see

if it happens Yeah, I don't think there was too

much other things. I think we almost hit all

the films. So hopefully we talk about one of

the films that you are looking forward to. And

the question for this week is pretty easy. And

that would be, which film are you most anticipating

for the rest of 2015? Should we exclude Star

Wars from that? Which film besides Star Wars

and which other one, I guess, maybe? Yeah, besides

Star Wars, what other film are you most anticipating

for on the rest of 2015? We're going to take

a second quick break. Dan's going to actually

check out at this point. And when we come back,

Amanda and I are going to give you just a small

dose of what we've been watching, in case anybody

cares to hear that, because we've been seeing

a whole bunch of films. And then we'll be back

with another episode next week. I don't know

what we're covering yet, but we'll figure that

out. Hopefully there'll be some good movies released

here at some point. We're getting into September,

so we're going to start seeing some of those

start to drop that we've been talking about during

this whole episode. So any closing thoughts,

Dan, that you want to get out there? No, actually

going through this, I'm actually more excited

now than I was beforehand so just as we look

through everything that's coming out and hopefully

2015 will actually end up being a good year so

yeah I'm looking forward to it not just for all

the different box office draws but I think there's

a bunch of them along the way that could be surprises

or could be pretty good so definitely looking

forward to the rest of this year Amanda I just

really want to see Crimson Peak right now. Alright,
