I, along with my co -host, who I will introduce
in a moment, are going to be talking about Star
Wars blood ties. I have the two trades, volume
one, Django and Boba Fett, and volume two, Boba
Fett is dead. I am your host, TF2, and Mike,
and joining me is from Star Joe's Ryan Hoser.
Thank you for having me on the show. Happy to
be here. Yes. Now you guys have already covered
these on Star Joe's, which I didn't know at the
time when I asked you about it, because I figured,
oh, he's a Star Wars guy. I'm sure he hasn't
gotten to this before. Pretty much anything that
came out from the time we started our show, which
was 2010. God has it been that long. anything
that came out Star Wars related, G .I. Joe related,
Transformers related and so on that came out
from 2010 until now we have covered on the show
as far as comic books go. Yeah, yeah. Now my
main motivation for doing these books as the
first Star Wars coverage here inside the pullback
is The Fets have never I've always heard everybody's
you know scream their praises of how what great
characters They are one of them got to get his
head cut off the other one got eaten by a monster
How awesome are these characters again really
come on now? I mean seriously I mean, one of
them got decapitated by a purple lightsaber.
Come on! You don't like the purple lightsaber?
Come on, man. No, I love the purple lightsaber.
I just think it diminishes the character of Jango
Fett that he got killed by it. I will say, I
think the big attraction was initially... Boba
Fett in the original trilogy was obviously a
super minor character in the Empire Strikes Back.
You think, yeah, he's super minor, exactly. He
had like two lines. And what happened was people
just gravitate towards those characters. I mean,
we see it even in the prequels where people gravitated
towards Darth Maul who had a little bit more
screen time but had very few lines. He had a
full -on battle and killed a damn Jedi. He did
a... Darth Maul is way more popular than Boba
Fett. True, but still very few lines. But what
happens, I think, with a lot of these characters,
and it happens all over the place, is someone
sees the character and goes, oh, he looks really
cool. And then they go, I'm going to like this
character. And then what happens is the... the
mass media out there that's producing stuff,
goes, hey, people like this character, let's
do something with him. So I honestly think it
just goes to him being that strong, silent type
that looks cool in a costume. And I really think
that's all it was. I agree he was like comic
relief in Return of the Jedi of him flying off,
Boba Fett at least, flying off and falling into
the Sarlacc. But then there has been a whole
mythos in the expanded universe. universe, often
referred to as the EU, that has really built
up who this character is and who he was and things
like that. And obviously, these books relate
to who he was and who Jango Fett was and stuff
like that. Now, see, for me, I guess you could
say I'm a casual Star Wars fan. I still have
yet to, even though it's right now on Netflix,
I still have yet to even crack the Clone Wars.
Not that I don't want to, I just... You're missing
some good stuff. I know, I know. You know, I'm
a fan of the films and that's pretty much where
it stops. I mean, I can like the toys and I can
like certain things about the franchise, but
the films were... where my fandom was. I had
heard of the EU and everything else, and I had
heard a bunch of horror stories about certain
parts of the EU and how some people think that
they screw a lot of stuff up. Well, I will say,
to give you my background, I was two when the
first movie came out, the first Star Wars movie
came out, so I didn't see it. in the theaters
when I was two, of course. But I believe if memory
serves me right, I did see it when they re -released
it the year right before Empire came out. They
re -released it in 79. I was four years old at
the time. And I think I went and saw it. I know
that I saw Empire Strikes Back in the theater.
And I know I saw Return of the Jedi in the theater.
And then, obviously, I've seen the other movies
in the theater and everything else. But then
I didn't really follow the Marvel comics at all.
I picked up a few issues here and there. I really
didn't start reading them until I was much older.
But what really got me back into Star Wars was
the Timothy Zahn book, Heir to the Empire, which
is the best place to start. Those books are phenomenal.
He did a trilogy, and reading that, he got the
characters right and everything else. And from
then on, I picked up every book that came out.
I started reading the Dark Horse comics. I now
own every... Novel that's come out other than
the youth stuff And I own every into one form
or another I own every Dark Horse comic that's
come out and have read all of them I have not
read all the books, but I'm working on that.
Um There is good there is bad. Um, but you get
that with Everything I mean you get you get that
with Marvel you get that with DC you get that
with any series that you're reading If it lasts
long enough, I should say you're gonna have your
good stuff and you're gonna have your stuff that
you're like, yeah, that's not so good I'm just
waiting for a Very goofy Iron Man Vader to fight
Mickey Mouse Hulk Luke. I will go see And because
you mentioned Dark Horse, and I believe, I don't
know when, but apparently Marvel and Disney have
reclaimed from Dark Horse the Star Wars stuff
at some point. I'm not looking at any information,
folks. I don't know when this is supposed to
happen. It'll be 2015. So they have the contract.
Dark Horse has a contract through 2014. and in
2015 Marvel then has the rights. I don't know
when Marvel's planning to produce, if they're
looking at January 1st or if it'll be sometime
after that, but it is 2015 when Marvel will take
over. Now, when I was a kid, because I'm slightly
younger than you, I was too busy being born and
young, like super young when Empire came out,
and so... And by the time Jedi came out, I was
only three. So yeah, I've never seen these, the
original trilogy in theaters at all. I've actually,
I've seen two out of the three prequels in theaters
and they weren't ones that I wanted to see in
theaters. I wanted to see the third one and I
wanted to see revenge in theaters, not the other
two. I'm sorry like I get they wanted to show
Anakin's and and Padme's love that oh my god
that scene oh Christ that scene is so long Now
I will say well number one I wanted to ask you
so you did not get to see the original trilogy
in theaters when they did the re -release the
special edition ones I'm assuming no I didn't
even get to see him okay I I don't know what
it was I was When did that happen 97 yeah, right
right about 96 97 yeah, 96 97 yeah, I was at
the time 1617 so I was too busy with you know,
just getting into high school and stuff like
that And by then, I was really hooked on the
Power Rangers. So yes, Star Wars was pretty much
a backseat. And honestly, I remember as a kid
watching a VHS. It's a video cassette, ladies
and gentlemen, a VHS copy of A New Hope. And
I was like, episode four? Where are the other?
Where are the other? Wait a minute here. We're
missing something. What the hell is going on
here? And then at the end of the movie, I was
like, wait, that's it? That's all? Well, and
two, you have to... I don't know if you know
this or not, but when the first Star Wars movie
came out, when it first hit the theaters, it
was not called Episode 4. It was just called
Star Wars. And it wasn't until Empire came out
and they did the re -release that I had mentioned
earlier in 79 that they actually put the Episode
4 on there with A New Hope underneath it. So
that... That's why that kind of happened. But
yeah, I mean, for me, Star Wars has been my life
ever since I was four years old. And I can't
imagine not having Star Wars in my life. Hence
why half of my show is. Star Joe's. The star
is not for Star Trek. It's for Star Wars. But
I have reference books. I have action figures.
I'm deep into the black series, six -inch figures
that are out there right now. It's my passion.
It's something I've loved my whole life, and
it's probably the thing I know the most about.
I will say that I... Am okay. I know everybody
covets Empire. I get it. I really get it Okay,
and I'm not gonna say a bad thing about that
movie, but for me and how my brain thinks I like
the connect the dots so Revenge and return are
my two favorites. Okay, because revenge sets
up what I had already seen Episode four because
the whole time even even later in life, you know,
I don't know maybe ten years ago sure I was like
Okay, so revenge sets or when did we're I don't
even remember what it couldn't have been ten
years ago. Oh, yeah It was revenge was I think
if I remember right 2003 Was it really oh My
god, I am old. I want to say it was 99 for Phantom
Menace 2001 for clone attack of the clones and
2003 for revenge I'm not sure I have to look
it up because I let's see revenge of the Sith
release date oh no 2005 2005 okay wasn't 10 years
ago it was close whenever yeah okay let's let's
rephrase this here uh 2007 there we go uh somewhere
around 2000 god people are gonna kill me for
that uh somewhere around 2007 um is really when
i went back and went to watch revenge of the
sith and uh I, what I love about it is it's everything
I had always wanted to see from A New Hope. Like,
okay, well, okay, Luke is adopted and his sister
is, well, obviously we, well, yeah, by then we
would have known who his sister is. You know,
Luke is adopted, his sister was adopted, but
how did that happen? Like, so for me, Revenge
and Return, because Return pretty much sets up
a new, at the end, sets up a new era of peace.
to whatever they're going to do next year or
whatever the hell. So those are my two favorites.
As far as the rest of the... I still enjoy Star
Wars and Empire and Return of the Jedi. I still
very much enjoy them. Phantom menace and attack
of the clones They're probably two of the like
as far as plot and like how to set up the character
of Anakin Skywalker Who are the worst movies
I've ever seen? The effects the action all that
stuff great. I loved all the stuff sitting up
Obi -Wan I love they finally showed us the damn
Clone War that they kept mentioning in episode
four uh... but all the stuff of anakin all my
god he i he's almost as he's almost worse than
email peter from the bring spider felt right
Now almost now the one thing I will say like
for me return of the Jedi is my favorite if you
had to put a gun in my head and ask me which
one's my favorite that's the one I typically
would just say Star Wars and when people say
what's your favorite I go the original trilogy
and they're like which one out of that then I
say return of the Jedi so You have to like push
me to actually say return of the Jedi and it's
just because I am a good guy and I like seeing
the good guys win and in Luke looked awesome
as a Jedi Knight and The Java scene is my favorite
scene in all of Star Wars from the first whole
20 minutes of from them being in the palace.
Oh, the intro. I thought you meant the other
scene at the end. No, just the whole, you know,
him, you know, them coming into his place, having
a plan, having it all mapped out, and then they
get on the skiff and they fight over the sarlacc.
Like that whole first 20 minutes of that movie
is just like my favorite thing in Star Wars.
the whole flipping in the air, catching the lightsaber,
that's great stuff. Empire's probably next, Star
Wars is next, because again, it's the original
trilogy, I love all of it. Then you have Revenge
of the Sith, then you have Attack of the Clones,
then you have Phantom Menace for me. I like the
prequels, I don't love the prequels. I agree
with you, the special effects are awesome, all
that type of stuff is awesome, but I feel like
Lucas forgot the thing that made the original
Star Wars awesome, which was the story and the
story kind of falls apart in places and the thing
i've always explained is the original trilogy
has really awesome moments with an awesome story
the the prequels have awesome moments not necessarily
an awesome story. And because there is moments
you're just like, wow, Darth Maul's fighting
the Jedi. And while you see Yoda flipping around
using the lightsaber, we've always wanted to
see something like that. So there's cool moments,
but they're just not really put together. Well,
Revenge of the Sith is definitely the best one.
There's still moments in that that just destroy
me. Give an example of one. Vader doing the Frankenstein
and going, no, like that. OK, yeah. And not handle
that. The whole, you're killing me, Anakin, with
like, she's basically dying because of a broken
heart. No. So that stuff I can't handle. There's
continuity. It causes continuity issues for me.
Like the whole late when Luke talked to Leia
and says, you know, do you remember your mom?
And she goes, yeah, I remember her. I was very
young. She but she was she was kind but sad.
It's like, well, Leia actually never did know
her mom. So I don't know why she would know that
her mom was sad because her mom died. So well,
let me ask you this. Do you? because we all know
mothers and babies have a strong bond before
the babies are born do you think maybe it was
me okay i'm you didn't really stretch for that
you know i mean you know um i mean i think that
was probably the only time that i felt that that
portman did any real emotion sure um that character
yeah and I think she's a good actress overall
I think she she and other stuff I've seen her
in I think she does a good job but then not so
much the biggest issue I have with the prequels
is because the mistake I think they made is they
should have just started off with Anakin being
a teenager yeah they should never went to the
little kid no midichlorines and no midichlorines
yes I agree keep it magical keep it mythical
Yeah, that's what it don't bring science into
this crap. Yeah, I don't need it I don't need
you know what obi -wan Kenobi and Yoda explain
the force the best way which is you know, that's
an energy field that surrounds us and binds us
and that's all I needed to know and and that
there's people out there that look know how to
control it so That I didn't need more of an explanation
than that. I was I was good with the force All
right, so we are going to take a quick break
And then we'll come back to talk about Star Wars
blood ties. So let's say you're looking for a
podcast of your favorite 80s comic books, G .I.

the 80s, we will cover it at some point. Yes,
so what you want to do to find us, you can go

And remember, the Force will be with you. Because
knowing us is half the battle. Alright folks
Star Wars blood ties Django and Boba Fett the
front cover for the trade is basically Django
and Boba Fett in their uniforms They look is
that a camera on top of their helmets what is
it or maybe it's a radio antenna I I don't know
Let me take a look here It's the front cover
of the trade I don't know what get that's the
other thing that I I will say before we get into
talking about the story the one thing that kind
of disappointed me about the trade is that it
has several illustrations which I assume were
the covers of the individual issues yeah but
it doesn't have like an art gallery where it
shows you like alternate covers if there were
any or the covers like I love when trades do
that and they have some sort of art gallery in
the back like IDW's TMNT does that amazingly
yeah I will say I don't believe there there weren't
too many alternate covers I don't think it was
until we got into Boba Fett is dead that there
was a couple alternate covers for the first issue
but the regular blood blood ties Django and Boba
Fett that that was just Think the if I remember
right the cover of the issue was the cover of
the issue and that was it As far as you're talking
about that little antenna thing off of on each
of their heads Yeah, yeah, it's kind of a tracker
It'll actually flip down to help them like a
site almost it'll come down, but it can also
be used as a radio antenna Okay All right, so
This is the first dark horse book I've Well,
outside of Tomb Raider number one, the more recent
Tomb Raider number one by Gail Simone. This is
the first Dark Horse book that I've really read,
especially in trade. And it starts off, it has
the people who worked on it. It has a script
by Tom Taylor, art by Chris Scalf. Yep. Letters
by Michael Heisler and cover art by Chris Scalf.
And on the opposite page here it says, the rise
of the Empire 1000 -0 years before the Battle
of Yavin. After the seeming final defeat of the
Sith, the Republic enters a state of complacency
in the... Waning years of the Republic, the Senate
is rife with corruption and the ambitious Senator
Palpatine causes himself to be elected Supreme
Chancellor. This is the era of the prequel trilogy.
The events of this story take place approximately
22 years before the Battle of Yavin. Wow. Well,
you have to understand, just like many geek fans
out there, Star Wars fans want to know when does
stuff take place. And I agree, but setting it
1 ,000 -0 years before the battle? Those are
eras. So there's different eras in Star Wars,
and there's essentially the prequel or Clone
Wars era, which is from 1 ,000 years before Battle
of Yavin to 0 years before the Battle of Yavin.
Oh, OK. And that's what it basically is. There's
the Old Republic era. There's all these different
eras. And that's what it's referring to. This
particular story takes place 22 years before
the Battle of Ebon. Which is always the zero
point for Star Wars. Well yeah, that's true considering
what the film did. Blood will out. The bonds
of family, or the breaking of those bonds, affect
the course of history. Wars have been fought,
governments have been fallen, and tragedy has
been averted because of one person's blood relation
with another. Though not actually father and
son, Jango, Fett, and Boba Fett share the same
blood. Literally. boba will discover that decisions
made in Django's life have impact long after
his death. One of Django's acts in particular
is about to have a powerful impact, something
that begins when boba is a child while training
with his father, is destined to continue when
circumstances bring the past to the present and
to the attention of Boba Fett. Now I just want
to let everyone know what I just read is actual
text in this book. Both the Rise of the Empire
paragraph and this paragraph is actual text.
So, we get to the first issue and it's a Jango
Fett, basically rocket firing towards the camera.
Oh boy, that toy is super expensive. Oh wait,
not the Jango version, the Bulba version. I gotta
say, right off the bat, I love the photorealism
of the art. I mean, the first page. It's not
as bright and shiny as say a Batgirl issue. It's
not the style of the Transformers comics. It's
a very photorealistic style. Now the only thing
I will kind of compare it to is right after Wrath
of Khan 2 .0 came out IDW put out Star Trek number
25... whatever the number was that where it was
after the dark. It was supposed to take place
where the... it was the issue where... I don't
know. I don't know you're talking... I know,
I know, I know. Basically what I'm trying to
say is the only other place that I've seen this
photorealism type of art Is in a Star Trek comic
it was the Star Trek comic from IDW's ongoing
that came out right after Into darkness came
out and it was it was it was a story entitled
after the dark and it was basically how Spock
went through puberty. Okay, I put it somewhere
I put under the level of like an Alex Ross because
Alex Ross to me is like the pinnacle of that
photorealistic look but still higher than oh
who's the one artist that's out there that gets
flapped because he basically draws like he uses
Models no, not Liefeld the model he uses like
models and stuff like that. I can't remember
his name right now But there's a there's an artist
out there that does a lot of x -men stuff now
that he was basically using life Models and everything
else for so everyone had these cheesy smiles
on their face and stuff like that was very photorealistic
Chris Scalf we actually put as in star jobs.
We have our awards every year and Chris Scalf
We actually nominated the year this came out
for one of our best artists of the year He was
just it was I loved the art in this. I thought
was fantastic Overall, yeah, there's moments
where it's a little yeah It's got it's got its
moments But for the most part the art is is really
what pulled me into the story because it got
like you said, it's not Too shiny. It's not too
pretty. It's got a little bit of grit to it Yeah,
yeah. Yeah these beginning pages do Now we start
with and I kind of like this and I kind of don't
it's not just because of this story but it's
with any medium where you start at one point
and then and then Bugs Bunny says i remember
just like it was flashback you know and that's
happening a lot more in comics these days uh...
yeah it is all right so uh... the first page
is basically adult boba fed surrounded by all
these people you don't know who they are what's
going on and uh... And you know his his monologue
is you know, I'm surrounded. I don't fear these
people I have known true fear and fatly flashes
back to when he was a kid and We see him and
his I'm just gonna call the guy his father. I
don't care if he's a direct damn clone. He's
his son Yeah, I mean that's like saying that
Terry McGinnis is a clone of Bruce Wayne right
technically he is right, but he's is That's one
thing that kind of irks me about clone stuff.
It's like oh my especially when you have like
parentage It's like oh god. Just say they're
Well, and I will say a lot of times Django Fett
is referred to as the parent of the clones the
father of the clones because right is I mean
Yeah, so He's the father of all the clones right
technically he could be a special victims unit
Criminal from law and order yes, but anyway let's
not go that dark road so we've got We've got
Django that he's telling boba to stand still
and he's teaching him a lesson here a lesson
in in fear and he's basically going to make him
afraid now when he's a child so he will fear
nothing the rest of his life and we see uh...
which is on others it just cracks me up to because
it's kind of like i'm sending him to my kid does
death pretty much yeah but uh... But yeah, it's
tough love, let's call it that. An extreme version
of it, yes. Let's call it that. We turn the page
and we see Sean Connery's dragon heart. I swear
to God, as soon as I saw the face of this monster,
I'm like, hey, is James Bond's voice going to
start coming out of that thing? It does look
like it. A little bit. and jango tells him go
bring a tooth back uh... and and boba is just
like what's uh... i do love how idle there's
certain comics that i've read since i've been
reading comics full -time since october of twenty
twelve there's certain comics where i really
love the the contrast between dark and light
scenes yet and there's certain ones that i'd
just like If a scene changes color automatically,
depending on whose style it is, I just can't...
Several of the Hawkeye My Life is a Weapon, the
Mad Fraction series, several of those start off
in one color and then immediately the next page
is a complete... I cannot stand that kind of
color change, but this I actually like because
it... It shows you that because they're in this
cave, right? It makes sense. Yeah, it makes sense
this monster is is out in the open and and we
do all this stuff and he goes and gets the tooth
and He even asks him. Why why would you do that
to me? What do you think of young Boba using
the jetpack? I don't mind it too much because
they've kind of in like Clone Wars the animated
series and they even made an action figure like
that. He uses the jetpack. Granted it was after
his dad died, but I mean he's trying to I mean
Django's trying to train train him to be Mandalorian
basically and they use jetpacks and so I was
like I Hope and from what I what it seems like
in this issue. It seems like he's had some training
with it already Because I can't imagine sending
him in like here's your first time with the jetpack.
Go get a tooth Yeah, no, he said some training
with this already It's very evident It's a little
bit of foreshadowing which I kind of like it's
like look he's good I mean everyone knows he's
gonna be flying around in this thing is Boba
Fett later on so oh, yeah, most definitely You
have faced the Bayleg, you need never fear again.
And he really doesn't. That was one lesson. So
we get back to their ship, they're taking off,
and we see Scaramunga. I will say again the photorealistic
of this specifically on dooku He looks just like
Christopher Lee. So I love that about this. Yeah
He's like could you ask the boy to? And he's
basically sending them on on on him on he's basically
giving them a hit yep to go carry out and I love
how they kept the ship I love I As much as I
don't care for Boba Fett in the films that ship
was awesome. Oh, yeah the slave one. Yeah, yeah
very very awesome uh so they basically uh dooku
basically sends them to go kill this this mysterious
guy dooku wants to give them more information
but jango says nope don't need it just you know
just pay me and it'll get done yep just pay me
and it'll get done you know this is business
it's not personal right um I love the next scene
when they approach the planet The landing fee
negotiation can this is Django Fett and you see
the guy next to the rookie like oh I need to
go to the bathroom because I get a check my shorts
Yeah Great good for you. Now, you know your own
name now Elmio, are you crazy? Prove to me, you
know, you'll have to prove to us that you are
Django fit and he blows some Does he he doesn't
blow up their own? Oh, he blows up the shit landed,
right? Yeah Okay, I was gonna say he doesn't
blow. Yeah. Okay. That's all the proof. I would
need Yeah, I wouldn't even ask I mean for fear
of you know and blowing up the I take the red
shit Yeah, really why take the risk? so They
have to go hunt for this for this guy and Boba
wants to go with him doesn't want to be left
on the ship and And and Boba makes an interesting
point of you know, who's gonna steal your ship?
Yeah, I'm Django says something the effect of
well, you know It's it's something always trust
your intuition Boba. It's something stupid people
forget to do Mean so far. I'm loving the story
even though I didn't really care for either one
of the characters in the films Yeah, so far.
It's It hasn't like turned me around to the way
the characters were in the films, but to the
context of this story I'm loving it. I think
it's great. Oh, yeah, I I don't think that the
characters are the super badasses that everybody
you know assumes that they are just because of
two scenes in two different films, but So they
go looking for the guy and they they basically
they basically find him and Jango does something
that I Didn't oh My god, I could never Wow. He
basically makes boba kill the guy. Oh, yeah That's
crazy parenting Well, yeah. I mean, I know this
is fiction. You're also not a trained bounty
hunter and this is his job. It's dead or alive
and you're bringing your, not to sound like Robocop,
dead or alive, you're coming with me. But you're,
I mean, you're raising a kid and you're a bounty
hunter and you're bringing your kid with you.
He's going to see some ugly stuff. So. And if
you want to raise him to be the guy that takes
over after you or teams up with you later in
life He's gonna have to learn how to shoot things
to me It's almost and I know it's a total different
level because it's a person But it's almost the
same level as a as a hunter taking their kid
out to shoot their first deer It's it's really
to to jangle fed it that it's at it's that same
level. So Yeah, so Boba Fett kills the guy And
I love the effect of the shot because You know
you switch to the next you know you see you see
the one page where he's targeting the guy and
then the next page is basically Him holding the
the rifle you see a straight -on straight -on
shot blur blur and and You know BAM, but you
don't see like you don't see a BAM. You don't
see some crazy Batman pow you don't see it's
Blurry is the effect that you want for the oh
my god. I love that. That is I Had to readjust
my eyes about my eyes were going when I saw it.
I was like wait what? So after boba kills the
guy Django says stay here he goes down to the
house And he finds Finds the guy the guys isn't
Isn't dead. I thought he would be dead. Yeah,
but there's all that saved them. Yeah Apparently
so And this was another Django clone, yep one
that got away Yeah, this is crazy. This is this
is what makes this story so good And this kind
of sets up the whole thing. Can you really shoot
someone who looks like you can you really you
know? Imagine you're facing yourself and you
had to pull the trigger. Yeah, that's Apparently
the clone says no I wouldn't be able to and apparently
Django doesn't have that And he sees that He
has a wife and child and yep, and he says This
child that's his yes, please don't hurt him a
boy. What's his name Connor Connor Freeman Freeman
dot dot dot Which I love the name of the last
name Freeman because this is a clone that escaped
and He's a he named himself free man basically
So I thought that was a nice little thing to
throw in there Yeah Why why do you have my husband's
face? I don't understand and because you don't
understand you get to live And because no one
paid me to kill you I Honestly think it would
have been more powerful if he hadn't said that
last line I I don't I don't dislike the line
of you know and no one paid me to kill you, but
I think that Because Django understands something
she doesn't You know the whole clone thing. Yeah,
but I think it sets it up for not only Django
Fett for Boba Fett they don't kill just to kill
they kill because they're being hired for a job
and had he been paid to kill her like if he'd
been paid to say kill this person and Anyone
associated with him. She'd be dead. It doesn't
matter that she has a kid It doesn't matter that
you know, she's a woman. It doesn't matter to
him if he was paid to kill her she'd be dead
Yeah, that's true So, you know Boba keeps asking
him what happened and what happened they're leaving
and Basically to get his son off his back. He
lets him fly the ship. Yeah, he says I'll tell
you later Which he never did obviously later
never came My father and I never got to speak
he was murdered by a madman I Understand why
Boba says this mm -hmm, but I I don't see mace
window as a man that has a madman I Right, but
he is also a kid yeah, that's true. I mean this
is a traumatic moment for him you see your father's
head chopped off and and I We always laughed
on the show because I said I would have found
it humorous. And this is why they, of course,
didn't do it. But when he picks up Django Fett's
helmet, I think it would have been hilarious
if the head fell out of it. Oh, no. That would
be even more traumatic. Come on, Ryan. Wow. I
would have laughed. Wow, you are a sick bastard.
Yes, pretty much so. The only complaint I have
about the recreation of the decapitation is that
does not look like Samuel L. Jackson. And maybe
there's something involved with that. Maybe they're
not allowed to use his likeness. I don't know.
Maybe. You know, maybe. So we get to... We get
the other line is I would have avenged him I
would have killed the man who took my father
from me, but this too was taken from me referencing
the fact that Mace didn't have unlimited power
right I still love that scene. I love the transformation
from Senator Enjoy that more than when Darth
threw him off the balcony So we then We then
transfer to an adult Boba Fett and we get a whole
new adventure. Yep It's very very interesting
and and now see seeing this here. Mm -hmm. I
can see how bad -ass boba -fed is. Oh yeah. Seeing
how he is through the rest of the story, we're
gonna go through this, there's not much left
of this one, but you know, the fact that the
banker basically tells him this bounty is on
a man called Connor Freeman, that's not a large
bounty. Yeah. The name isn't familiar to you,
should it be? Thought your father never mind
and basically Bova says look tell me or else.
I'm gonna shoot your nose off. Yeah, I Can't
imagine what it would feel like for an alien
to have I mean look at that The barrel of the
gun is almost up into his brain. Yeah Okay, it's
gotta be uncomfortable Biggest booger ever Wait,
that guy doesn't have a nose. Well, he does,
but he doesn't. Hey, he's a turtle! Let's not
go there. So... And I love the fact that, you
know, so he obviously he takes the mission. And
or, you know, the contract because he's curious
as to what the whole deal is, how does it connect
to his father and all that. And I love the whole
I believe it's next week. We see Connor Freeman
actually in the bar and just kind of hanging
out there drinking. And there's no he's sleeping.
Yeah. And he's he's got a guy and also someone
comes up to collect the bounty on him. And and
it kind of shows that Connor's a little bit of
a badass, too. And he just takes the guy out.
Yeah, I love this scene because he's like...
Where is it? You're worth quite a bit of money,
so wake up. This guy look friendly, Quinny? Nope.
You got a blaster? Yup. If you kill anyone other
than this guy, you're picking up their tab. And
basically, eyes closed, left hand over his right
shoulder, basically. Kills the guy. Yeah You
know very nonchalant way just like as if he was
swatting a fly away He's still he's still sleeping.
Yes He kills the guy in his sleep. I don't think
I've ever seen that in any of any media ever
Wow just So So basically Quinny makes him clean
up his own mess. Yep, and Then a bunch of other
people start shooting at him Now I will say and
I I thought this was just a damn Transformers
reference from the Marvel comics I think it was
issue five where shockwaves gun blasted is is
the the onomatopoeia that it was used was Chum
and I've seen Chum in a lot of a lot of the Transformers
comics recently with IDW I'm getting sick of
it and to see it here the fact that has nothing
to do with transfer I'm still sick of the day
I That is one vocal effect for you know showing
someone shooting something that I just don't
care for Yeah, I don't I don't mind it It doesn't
I mean that type of stuff never bothered me But
it's it's something where I I think it's to help
illustrate Obviously that the particular type
of gun at least when I read it in Star Wars and
stuff like that You do get different like sound
effect Type things that show how deep the gun
is or how you know, how small it is things like
that They don't just go with choon for everything
Transformers they do. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah anyway,
um, so these the League of bounty hunters, which
is comedic relief in itself the league of bounty
hunters is basically after him now and He runs
down into a basically a dead -end street. Yep.
And, uh, Boba comes up behind him and basically
swats the gun, basically just takes the gun right
out of his hand. Oh man, I love this. This is
so awesome. And like, and like you said, it shows
how this whole scene was like my, I think my
favorite moment in the whole story. Cause you
just have Boba Fett. has to face off against
these bounty hunters, which, like you said, are
fairly comedic that, you know, as far as their
buffoonery, they're not the most capable bounty
hunters. But there are a lot of them, and they
are surrounding Boba Fett. And he, as we mentioned
earlier, is not afraid of anything anymore. And
he just unleashes Hellfire upon them. Pretty
much, yeah. He pretty much cuts them down to
two. An entire army of bounty hunters cut down
to two, and they still call themselves the League
of Bounty Hunters. How the hell can you be a
League when there's only two of you? They were
gonna recruit later. Wow. I guess spring training
came late. So we we we get this and we get this
This interesting appearance of a certain Star
Wars character. Yes that I This is my probably
first time seeing him in actual media outside
of that outside of action figures, okay? So I
don't know the whole history. Ladies and gentlemen,
like I said in the beginning of the show, I am
a casual Star Wars fan. I am casual to the point
of I like the movies. So I know the name. I know
the design and all that stuff. With Bossk, I
assume is who you're referring to. Yeah. Yeah.
He's my second favorite of the bounty hunters.
He's just cool looking. I mean, that's... essentially
why I like them but yeah I mean there's definitely
some history between him and and Boba Fett and
obviously it's kind of hinted at in this story
that they have some history with each other which
is basically why Bossk is like look this is yours
now I'm good you go right ahead I love the line
from Connor he's like how does every single bounty
hunter in the galaxy know where I am and Bossk
says You're not hard to find you drink in the
same bar all day every day, but you're not worth
enough for me to get in the middle of this And
then they and then the lead says drop your weapon
which one which I can put the blaster down, but
that won't save you And then it basically goes
through his entire arsenal that he had oh my
god Which is why I love that scene so much because
you get to see everything he has available to
him Which is the only time I know of that they
really show all the weaponry that Boba Fett has
on him Yeah Yeah, the laser the flamethrower
the The helmet display, I don't know why that's
a weapon, but okay. It's been a long time since
I've seen any of the films. It's actually been
probably two or three years since we did the
super giant in total about five hours of podcasting
between episode 75 parts one and two for the
original and prequel trilogies. Did he ever use
the flamethrower in the movies? No, no. I could
have sworn I saw him do something. He shoots
a rope from his wrist, but he's never used a
flamethrower in the movies. Mini concussion rocket
launcher. Now, I'm sorry. Mini concussion rocket
launcher. Concussion to me means you knock somebody
out. You don't make them go boom. It's it's meant
for impact not explosion. So That's that's true
on armed fist not so much You know, I'm coming
around to Boba Fett in this story, yeah In the
beginning it set it up really well, he's his
father Basically objected him to some really
really shitty conditions as part of his training
So his father is basically as you said earlier
training him to take over And then at the end
after he's basically burned them all He's basically
burned them all to hell he basically Pulls out
a princess Leia weapon and uses mace on Connor.
Yes Knocks him out. He's easier Well your transport
when they're unconscious That's true So we go
back to To what I assume is is bobas Domicile,
I don't know if it's his actual home or I think
it's his ship where he just goes back to the
ship Yeah, you're right. It probably is the ship
Connor wakes up and He says I feel like I've
grown more thumbs I Wasn't expecting extra I
wasn't expecting this I was expecting extra thumbs
And we get this whole thing of the credits and
Boba mentions Django to him and he kind of goes
off because he assumes that Django is the one
that killed his father And Boba just tells him
Shut up. And then Connor basically says, you're
every bit the cold, heartless killer Jango Fett
was. You're not a son. You're a product. And
then basically, Boba tells him that he was the
one that killed his father. But technically,
I know young Boba feels that he killed him. Technically,
he didn't. He just wounded him. Yeah So I mean
it's it I'm not gonna take a point off because
of because of that You know little line in the
story, but well, and it's cuz he doesn't he doesn't
know he doesn't know what actually happened And
for all he knows like his mom could have described
to him Here's who you know he he just remembers
the he probably remembers the look of Django
fat And now he sees somebody else that looks
just like the guy that killed his father so He
doesn't know the difference between Jango Fett
or Boba Fett. He just knows here's a guy that
looks just like the guy that killed my dad. Yeah.
I'm kind of confused here with the next scene
because... Oh, never mind. No, I'm not. They
shot at it. Okay. Oh, the slave one is parked.
Yeah. That looks weird. Looks like a giant...
Insert Austin Powers joke here people Wow, yeah
that Slave one not so awesome when it's parked
Unless it would have parked like on the wall
like the conehead sleeping sacks on the wall,
right? So the quote -unquote League of the bounty
hunters Show up they take Freeman. Mm -hmm And
basically kill Boba Fett or believe they have
yeah believe they have yes So they take him believe
they've killed Boba Fett take Connor and and
head off to You know fill in the the bounty and
We see the the villain and we've seen his name
already before in the story He looks like a really
ugly bald version of the Emperor. Yeah. He kind
of looks like, well, like I said, bald. He kind
of looks like that ugly one from Empire Strikes
Back, not the real Emperor. The stunt double.
Yeah, the stand -in. Yeah, the stand -in. And
seeing him off -screen, now, you know, seeing
the color of his like, hey! Red skulls jumping
universes So this League of bounty hunters brings
Connor to them and and Connor basically says
that you know, I pointed that out to them that
they're not a league anymore You know, so we
then go back to Boba and he survived somehow,
you know so he survives we then get to he says
uh well it says the ice planet Solari home of
the crime lord Teyand and Boba Fett has pretty
much stolen oh that's how he is that how he escaped
he stole the stone yeah yeah okay You'd think
I'd know, ladies and gentlemen, since I'm looking
right at it. So yeah, here's where we get to
the scene where Connor pointed that out earlier
about the league. All this fire and ice, the
backgrounds, simply amazing. Really. Really love
it What do you think of the story here when they
get to to hands and boba shows up and and He's
basically gonna pay the debt. Yeah, I I as much
as I love the whole Scene like I said, my favorite
scene is the whole thing where he's surrounded
by the bounty hunters. This is my favorite like
I guess Twist or moment of interactions between
characters because he says, well, I'll pay what
he owes and then we can let him go free. And
the guy was basically embarrassed. So he says
no. And so then I absolutely love the fact that
Connor's like, I'll pay you. He pulls out what
he has and he goes, I'll pay you three credits
to kill him. And he's like, accepted. boom yeah
that that's awesome i'm like that that is that's
pure to me that's pure bobo fat right there like
that's the character i i love outside of the
the movies and stuff like that so oh yeah no
it was great it was amazing Yeah, I just looked
like I got like it's kind of like fumbling around
like I think he could have pulled out a button
and said I got a button But yeah, so basically
the guy who had bounty on Connor Freeman He's
gone gone. He's dead. No more a threat and Of
course all of his men then try to attack Boba
Fett and Connor and He happens to have a lovely
pet rancor Because you know all the crime lords
must have one and it's chained up and Boba Fett
shoots at it to basically make it angry he's
not really trying to kill it, but he like slides
underneath it and shoots its chains and and releases
it and it takes on all the henchmen for him,
so Connor gets shot yep And we then we see the
Boba sets just saying what what is this our way
out of here not yours though Patience Boba patience
now and he basically puts his rocket firing effect
on the guy and the guy slams in the rank or smell
I just love the I've been thinking about Metal
Gear Solid way too much ladies and gentlemen
over the last few weeks because I just love the
quite I could just hear the sound question mark
ding I can just hear the Metal Gear sounds of
the Star Wars universe so awesome So the rancor
basically it doesn't yeah it explodes The credits
you owe me three credits And boba says I don't
know why he chose to help me, but I doubt it
was out of compassion or guilt I doubt men like
him feel at all you may as well take it all he
won't be missing it yeah and Basically Connor
takes it and he says he asks him. What are you
doing? Getting a tooth I collect them for someone.
Yeah, you could understand what it's like Yeah,
so you have trying to make a dead man proud now
that's something we didn't bring up earlier because
Connor says it right Connor uses the you know
trying to make a dead man proud line Yeah, that's
something we missed earlier, but I love when
I was reading it I loved it to the fact that
boba uses it at the end. Oh, yeah, absolutely
and it's Love how it circles back with him taking
the tooth because we opened with him getting
a tooth. So yeah, it's It's a nice bookend and
I will say Tom Taylor's done a lot of Or not
a lot, but he's done a few Star Wars stories
in the past and obviously he's now doing a lot
of stuff for DC And every time I've read a Tom
Taylor Star Wars story, I know I'm going to enjoy
it It's just done very well and like I said,
he set this up. And one thing just to throw in
there is that Blood Ties was not meant to be
a Boba Fett story. This arc was meant to be a
Boba Fett story and a Jango Fett story. They
were going to then do other characters that had...
blood relations or ties to each other and then
this one was so successful and such a hit that
they said well let's do a sequel to it and that's
where Boba Fett is dead came into play and then
there was talk of them still going back to the
original concept of let's do some other arcs
with other characters that have blood relations
and they just never never got around to doing
that I don't know okay call me ignorant because
I don't know a lot of the expanded universe but
from my point of view from the movies I mean
really the only other blood relations are the
father and the siblings and you know I mean Vader
and Luke and Leia right well I mean you get into
the expanded universe you do have a lot of characters
that have ties to each other and I think that's
where they were looking to go because really
with this you have Boba Fett's from one era and
Jango Fett's from another era of Star Wars you
have the Original trilogy whereas you know you
have the same thing with a lot of other characters
and it and so I think they were looking to make
those connections of like hey this characters
related to this character and they've had and
their stories tie into each other in a lot of
a lot of ways so there is a lot of there is a
lot of descendants and ancestry that that happened
in the Star Wars expanded universe I honestly
would like after reading Django and boba and
now we're gonna go through Boba Fett is dead
after I read these books. I'm like I Need more
from boba and Connor. I mean seriously They were
awesome. Yeah. Alright, so Boba Fett is dead
once again, I'm going to Read the Rise of the
Empire once again 1000 to zero years before the
Battle of Yavin After the seeming final of Vita
the Sith, the Republic enters a state of complacency.
These events take place approximately one year
before Star Wars Episode IV and New Hope. Same
crew, Tom Taylor on script, Chris Scalf on art,
Michael Heisler on lettering. And yours says
one year? Yeah, okay, so my first issue maybe
it changes as the issues go on but my first issue
says it takes place Ten years before the Battle
of Yavin But I wonder if the last issue says
one year Yeah, that's what it is that I'm looking
because I have the issues the last issue it says
the events of the story take place one year before
the battle of yuen so the well right because
in the trades it's in the trades for jango and
boba the the first volume it's one through four
right and then for this it's also a one through
four yeah i i want it looks like it may have
been just a typo in the first issue um because
when i look at issues two three and four they
all say one year but the very first issue says
10 years So it must be a typo in that first issue
because I don't think there's a time jump or
anything like that That happens in the first
issue. So the just a typo in the in the issues
Yeah He is acknowledged as the galaxy's greatest
and most feared bounty hunter the stories of
his accomplishments are Legendary and the list
of his enemies is endless But even a quick resourceful
man might one day meet his match and if he's
outnumbered even the fastest man might be run
to ground and killed. However, Boba Fett has
not always been completely alone. Even he has
blood ties to more than one individual in the
galaxy, individuals who might take notice of
the announcement of his death. Dun dun dun! So
we open the first... I don't know, when I read
trades, I love seeing the covers from the issues.
One thing I noticed in this is they do one cover
and then the rest of it is the entire story Okay,
like there's no breakup. Okay Yeah, so what I
mean, I mean I like that I think that's cool
Yeah, there's some there's certain stories that
do that Like I know I read the Walking Dead comics
and I get them in the hard covers and the hard
covers don't break it up by Issues for the most
part pretty much. You don't know where one issue
ended in the other one begins But yeah with this
I do have I do have the issues I was getting
it while it was coming out But yeah, I like it
better when they break it up a little bit It
helped at let you know where that's that cliffhanger
was meant to be all along. So yeah Well, that's
what's so confusing when my buddy Joe Reed and
I do the IDW TMNT books now when we do the micro
series, it's like Chapters one through four one
through four Just say it's chapters one through
four right five to what a you know five to a
Anyway, all right. So Boba Fett is dead. We open
up with Boba Fett dead Is somebody there Laying
there in Boba Fett armor, so we assume it's Boba
Fett. It's a nice way to give away the ending.
I mean, we're not having to worry about spoilers
since these came out a while ago, but I mean,
Jesus, man. It's not the ending, it's in the
second issue you find out what happens. True,
but still, it's like when you first read this,
it's like... Boba Fett is dead, but that may
not really be him. Let's put it this way. If
you're reading this book and you picked up the
book thinking that Boba Fett actually dies in
this, you're kidding yourself. True, true. If
you'd like, I can try to do some of the synopsis
here since like I said, I do have these issues
in front of me. Sure, go for it. All right. So
as we said, Boba Fett is laying there dead. and
we he's surrounded by a bunch of like clone troopers
as well as some other surly looking characters
like a Greedo looking character, which is the
Rhodian species and I saw him later and I completely
missed him in the beginning when I was reading
the damn thing because when I I'm sorry to interrupt
you when I ladies and gentlemen, I've said this
before on the podcast when I am reading the books
to be able to talk about the story. I do pay
attention to the art, but I mostly pay attention
to the bubbles, for the most part, for the writing.
And I come, like when they kept mentioning Rodin,
Rodin, and then later I'm like... Hey, it's Greedo!
Wait a minute, where'd he come from? And now
that you pointed out and now that I'm looking
at it, oh wow. So technically, he did shoot first.
This one's probably not Greedo. True. So we and
we have a trooper that's on a do back and everything
else and they announced to this guy that Boba
Fett is quite dead. Then news. So then we flip
over to Connor Freeman, who's in the bar that
he I believe he owns the bar now. Yeah, he owns
the Cantina and he sees the news reports that
Boba Fett's been killed. And so he makes a toast
to everyone to Boba Fett. He says the next rings
are on the house and of course everyone loves
to hear that so yeah Really quickly go back to
that first page. Did you see the the two troopers
on the left? Yes their bike troopers from Return
of the Jedi That's awesome because I think wasn't
that the only film we saw that style. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Oh, I love that We do see it in the Revenge
of the Sith because they have more of the camel
look to them though But they do have that style
of armor and everything else so So Connor says
that he's he's heading out for a little bit and
then we flip through three weeks later on the
Zabrak homeworld, which is Zabrak is the species
that Darth Maul is and They say, you know, there's
this group of people that come across a cloaked
figure they tell him to get out of the way because
the captain is coming through and he basically
shoots them all. This is again what I was talking
about folks with the first trade. How you go
from the desert scene To the bar which the desert
scene is quite bright. It's bright blue sky It's
obviously all sand because it's a damn desert
and whatever else and then you go to the bar
It's a little dark and and then you know Connor
leaves the bar You go to this other world and
it's it's dark But the color palette has changed
to blue more than green like the bar. I love
it I love the color changes in that yeah, they
did a great job and So before he kills the last
one last of these guys he's like the guy goes
like do you have any idea who I am? And he says
you're nobody and kicks him off the bridge and
he goes flying to his to his death there So then
we see that a woman is speaking to Captain Sabar,
which was the who's the leader of the previous
troop guys and he's actually the guy that ordered
Globo Fett's assassination before and there's
word getting out that that there's been an accident
and they he asked do you think it's Fett related
and he's like and they're like no you know Fett's
dead so like I wouldn't worry about it this guy
looks like an older version of Ewan McGregor's
Obi -Wan oh yeah Honestly thought this was at
first Obviously, it's not And then we see that
that same cloaked figure show up on another planet
sathy sathy mon which is a new place I've never
heard of before and and he identifies himself
as Connor Freeman and He ends up attacking some
Troopers on due backs and one of them happens
to look very much like the the guy on the due
back in fact It is the guy that was on the due
back that killed helped in killing Boba Fett
and He yanks him off of his due back Who who
by the way just earlier he was? Beating on that
due back. So the due back obviously doesn't like
him very much. Yeah, no, you gotta take you gotta
take care of your Star Wars animals Yes Because
what ends up happening is he's left there with
the due back facing him and Armors taken from
him and he's like, I'm just gonna leave you here
Basically, yeah this cloaked figures like I'm
just gonna leave you here with your pet basically
He's like and the guy's like what are you doing?
He says you can't just leave me here. I didn't
even shoot Shoot at Fett. There's no reason for
payback and the guy goes. I think your due back
may disagree So so the guy returns he's got a
big duffel duffel bag now and he what is in that
I believe it's the stormtroopers armor okay yeah
because he wouldn't put it on right away yeah
okay yeah so then he gets into the his ship and
he he flies off and again the guy refers to him
as Connor Freeman that's the name he's using
and of course word gets back again that you know
there's been some deaths going on and the one
stormtrooper commander is dead and he was killed
by his own do -back. And that Captain Cybar notices
that someone's dispatching of Fett's killers.
Is he a captain or a senator? They refer to him
as captain, but he could be a senator too. See,
I could've sworn the guy that wants every trace
of Boba Fett... gone yeah the guy that looks
like Obi -Wan I could have sworn he was some
sort of council person or we'll get to it later
once we get to the ending of this and ending
of the story but I just know that they call him
captain sidebar so he could be captain and a
senator but it gets out and there's an announcement
over the news that the person who did this was
Connor Freeman and there's Connor going what
the hell and a true Connor knows better yeah
exactly but then a trooper comes in and grabs
him and yanks him into the street but just then
a ship comes flying in and burns Connor a bit
even though the trooper tries to push him out
of the way So then we get into the second issue
where we see Connor's actually Being in a back
to tank and he's missing an arm now his his right
arm was completely burned off and he's got a
like a cybernetic attachment By I believe this
is yeah, it was dr. Evison, which is from Star
Wars a new hope which I like that being thrown
into there Is that he was a real doctor? The
trooper pulls Connor out of out of the back to
tank and he says you know we have to talk and
Connor's like who are you and he's like not here
come on so he takes him to this little ship and
he takes off the helmet and shows that he is
actually Boba Fett and he explains to Connor
what actually ends up happening as he was tracking
someone down who then hid into a hole he then
got shot in the back but his jet pack saved him
and he was able to take out the guy that was
in the hole and he put his arm around the guy
and flew him out of the hole and all the guys
that were hunting down Boba Fett shot him thinking
that it was actually Boba Fett and of course
killed him and they thought they killed Boba
Fett and he just basically stayed in the hole
until they went away. Which I thought was a brilliant
brilliant move Yeah Because no they didn't bother
to take the helmet off because no one really
knew what Boba Fett looked like underneath anyways,
so yeah so Now is it just me or the the page
where he's telling the story of how we got into
and out of the hole Yes, the pun is intended
ladies and gentlemen Is it just me or when they're
sitting there do they look an awful lot like
I? Don't remember boba having that much hair.
They basically did he take Connor's I did he
take his Did you do some sort of joker plastic
surgery or something and give himself a new face
or something? Boba Fett looks different in this
than he did in the first one. Yeah, and I don't
know, it could just be inconsistency with art,
but also he's been on the run for a while. That's
true. So, you know, more hair. He's a little
bit less shaven than everything. Yeah, you get
transported to a distant planet and have to fight
dogs and wear a giant cape. You end up with a
super beard. Right. Exactly. So so we have Boba
Fett takes Connor to another planet and I love
the whole scene where Connor's sleeping at a
bar again and The bartender is like you can't
sleep here Like I can sleep anywhere. It's a
gift So he gives him some money Boba Fett in
the stormtrooper uniform Heads over to black
fell and he is basically hunting down some of
the troops that had tried to take him out before.
He causes a few explosions to occur, including
a giant tower, by putting some grenades in his
ship and jumping out with a jet pack. Connor
Freeman goes to find out some connections that
Boba Fett has and he finds this little house
on Concord dawn and finds this little girl and
I love the little girl in this I thought it was
told very well from a little kid's perspective
and I just caught you didn't yes exactly and
there's a woman Hey, it's Laura Croft! Yes, looks
a lot like her. Holding a gun to Connor's head,
and she basically says, I hear you're looking
for me, Cyborg. And he was basically looking
for some connections to Boba Fett, so that's
who he was looking for. When we get into issue
three, I love, absolutely love the whole scene
where Vader comes upon the trooper and orders
him and does not realize that it's Boba Fett
underneath. Well, why would he right just I mean
Vader has seen a million stormtroopers true,
but he can also sense stuff So we're supposed
to be able to sense things so But I just love
that like well It just plays so well that Vader
would come across Boba Fett and not realize that
it was him Back at the farm that Connor was at
the woman has him at gunpoint, but also They're
attacked by a bunch of Devronians, which are
the little guys, the guys with the horns that
look like devils in Star Wars. They start shooting
at them. And Connor says, I know this looks bad,
but they're not with me. Yeah. And she said she
yells to protect her daughter. They the daughter
actually blasts the land speeder that the guys
are on with like this cannon. Yes EMP cannon
type thing. Yeah She says my daughter doesn't
need a lot of protection They end up basically
having a big firefight and she realized that
Connor is actually on her side Because he helps
protect her Then we get back to the scene of
Boba Fett and he walks in on a whole garrison
or a whole unit of stormtroopers and this is
great because they realize that he doesn't belong
there and He points they know the guy that was
in that outfit is dead. Yes and I like how he
says Attack for they're standing there and he's
like it looks like we have a live target to play
with for training today men attack formation
seven and Both that says attack formation seven.
He says you have a formation that means line
up in front of the grenades Boom just blows them
all up and he gets out of there, but not before
he goes ahead and Takes care of one of the other
guys that had been involved with trying to kill
him. So We then see him head out to a Tidarian
ship, the little shuttle ship they have that's
in Star Wars often. I didn't even know this.
Is that a Tidarian or is that a TIE fighter?
There's a TIE fighter at the top of the page,
but the bottom... Okay, that's... Yeah, okay.
It's the Tiderian. Oh, yeah, I just... God, man,
I was paying way too much attention to the story
and not enough attention to the art when I was...
Wow, a TIE fighter, that is so awesome. And then
we go back to Connor, and he's in the little
home, and... He's having a moment with a little
girl and they're talking and he finds out some
of the back history and everything else and he
explains what happened to him as far as which
goes back to the first mini -series. Little glimpses
there. He basically finds out that this was Boba
Fett's wife at one time and that this is his
little girl. But as he's talking as Connors talking
with With the wife of both that they have a little
moment and they kiss And I can only imagine that's
not gonna be good for later But we find out that
The that captain or whatever or senator or whatever
he is he has found out that where about this
connection that Boba Fett had a wife and a daughter
and That now he knows how to hit Boba Fett where
it counts because he realized that Boba Fett's
still alive Well the guy it says He would have
been 30 today. Yep to Tachine And she says governor.
Oh, yeah She's a spymaster for governor Pyrton.
Yeah Pyrton, where do I know that name? Yep So,
not to say that you were wrong and I was right,
but you were wrong and I was right. He's still
called Captain Cyber, so... Well, yeah, that's...
You could be a captain and a governor. It's possible.
That's like... What the hell. In the prequels.
Oh crap. Isn't Palpatine called too different?
No He's champ. He's champ. Yeah, no, I'm talking
about his actual name. He's pal. He's Emperor
Palpatine and also The chance yes birth. Yeah,
that's yeah, that's see that's the thing. So
Palpatine and Sidious And then Dooku and Taranis,
so yeah, it kind of fits But I remember it more
as when they called him governor than I do when
they did captain. Yeah So then we get into the
last issue, which is where basically he's told
by the woman there, and I can't remember what
her name was either, but is that the daughter
is, Connor's told that the, oh, it's Cintus Bell
is her name. And so Cintus tells Connor that
the daughter, Alyn, her daughter Alyn, is actually
Boba Fett's daughter. He's in so much trouble.
She's like, my husband's dead, you know, and
everything else and he's like, actually he's
not. But then right then they get attacked and
there's a bunch of troopers that bust in. They
head towards like a... shelter like a Panic room
almost of sorts to protect themselves We then
get The slave one comes flying in which I thought
was fantastic And just starts blasting everyone
so Boa Fett has has arrived in full Boa Fett
armor and Boa Fett glory and He flies down in
his jetpack starts taking out the different troops
that are there. And again, this is just showing
how badass Boba Fett really is. And while this
is all going on, again, we have Connor and Cintus
and Alen all down in like a little bunker armory
type room. And they're hiding there trying to
stay quiet. And Boba Fett gets the drop on him
by Tae Chin. which was the female right -hand
woman. And he's like, you uncovered everything
about me, you found the only people I care about,
and you tacked them. He's like, you studied me.
You think you know everything about me? And she
says, yes. And he says, then tell me honestly,
do you seriously think there's any way you can
win this fight? No, and so she basically hands
her gun over Yeah, pretty much. She is now a
disciple of the Fed. Yes So then back at the
bunker Cintus Vell and Connor Freeman put on
some of the Mandalorian armor, which is pretty
awesome looking and they come flying out and
take out a bunch of the troops and The the governor
guy is there And he says you knew my son sent
us He would he was the only family I had his
name was Lenovar he was a lawman he was a protector
and your husband murdered him in cold blood and
So You know Connor says I understand wanting
to kill Fett But what twisted part of you decided
the only way to make yourself feel better was
to kill his family, too so they actually Uh,
he tries to attack them, uh, and Connor shoots
him dead. Boom. Gone. Yeah. But you're, um, you're,
you're skipping one important part here. There
was a reason. He just never shared it with anyone.
He kept the secret to protect me. Yes. I knew
Lenovar. You know what your quote unquote beautiful
son did to me. And she whispers something, which
I can only imagine that the guy raped her. Yeah.
Yeah. It's the only thing. It's the only thing
I can imagine. Rape or sexual assault or something.
My only question is, did this happen after Aylin
was born? That's my only question. It's interesting.
I believe so, because it seems like Fett was
kind of a family man at the time. So and maybe
this is the event that caused made him realize
he can't be tied to anybody. Thankfully, yeah,
he didn't go the route his father did with him,
right? And I could not like I didn't I don't
mind the little girl right her using the cannon,
right but I Would have been horrified if boba
went the same direction that Django did yeah
in training his daughter to do what he'd oh my
god Yeah, oh, yeah. Oh, that would be horrific
to me So it really would be so then we get a
Boba Fett shows up standing over them and they're
in the little Pit area the shelter bunker area
and Connor asks Sent us if she's okay and she
kisses him and Boba Fett walks away a little
girl says you'll get space worms Because they're
kissing and that's yucky the little girls so
yeah and little boys of course, but uh so then
Connor catches up with Boba Fett and he says
tells him it's over the man who tried to kill
us is dead and your family safe and Boba Fett,
I love this, he's like, you kissed my wife. He's
not your wife anymore. He's like, no. Here. And
then he hands him a tooth. Connor hands Boba
Fett a tooth and he says, I remember that you
collect the teeth of monsters and I figure he
more than qualified. And he asks, did you see
Alen? And he says, yes, she's funny and she has
our eyes. That's a little strange to me. Like,
I get it. They're clones. They're clones of Jango
Fett. I get it. It's a little haha. It's a little
haha creepy. I mean, there's a lot of creeping.
And I guess that's why they decided to call this
thing blood ties. Because the blood ties everything
together. Yeah, exactly. I remember when I was
reading this, and when Cintas first came charging
in, when Alen said, you caught me, I was like,
hey, it's Lara Croft. All right. Let's see here.
We are going to go to a quick break. We're going
to come back with final thoughts, and we're also
going to rate these two stories after this. We
are back here inside the pull bag and to wrap
it up for final thoughts final rating In the
context of this story and wanting to see more
of this story and these characters that were
in these two volumes I Like Django and Boba Fett
in the context in the context of the films not
so much For blood ties volume one, which is Django
and Boba Fett I'm going to give it a four and
a half out of five. It's almost perfect. There
were just some things that just, they're not
bad per se, but there were just a little bit
of the, like, even though I love the art and
I love all the color changes and everything else,
there were just certain things that just didn't
stick with me. And I mean, you know, four and
a half out of five is not a bad rating whatsoever.
What about you for for me honestly with the first
one I would give it a five The reason being is
that like I mentioned as we were going over it
like this is the Boba Fett I've always wanted
to read and So to see him have those moments
with against the other bounty hunters to see
that moment at the end where he's like I'll take
I'll take the three credits and and everything
else like that to me is perfect Boba Fett the
art I thought was phenomenal If I could get Chris
Scalf to draw I think when we covered back when
we covered this issue on our show I said if I
could get Chris Scalf to draw all my comic it
she would love it so There's a couple there's
a couple areas of art where like faces get a
little wonky and stuff like that but overall
to me this is as good of a Boba Fett story as
I could even imagine reading so and volume two
Boba Fett is dead I really like this because
not only is it a continuation of the first series
it pretty much picks up right where it left off
and it shows you what Boba Fett has had to deal
with over his lifetime, the repercussions of
what his father made him do as a child, the fact
that he collects teeth for somebody, even though
we know he does it for Django, for monsters.
I think I will give this one a perfect I will
say the only negative thing and I we kind of
already mentioned this they might not have been
able to get the light mace window does not look
like mace window it's the only really gripe I
can say about Boba Fett is dead so I'm gonna
go ahead and give this one a perfect okay um
I would actually give this one a four out of
five and I'll tell you The big reason why for
me with it is I did love the story. I thought
it was great to show the family, the connections.
It gives more to the name Blood Ties than the
other one. But the thing that I have a problem
with with this is that if you did not read that
first miniseries. you're not going to know what's
really going on in this second mini -series.
And that's the problem I have with a lot of the
Star Wars books sometimes, is they will do multiple
mini -series and go, here's a number one, pick
it up and read it. And you can't just pick it
up and read it, because a lot of times you have
to have read the previous mini -series, and they
don't make that abundantly clear for you. So
that's my only gripe with it, is that if I was
to pick up Blood Ties Boba Fett is Dead, fresh
and been like, hey, I heard good things about
blood ties. Let me go ahead and read this. I
would be like, who's this kind of Freeman guy?
What's going on? And that's the only thing I
think is lacking. I would almost rather it say
blood ties part two, Boba Fett is dead or something
like that. So to make it very clear that it is
a sequel to the first one. Yeah. No, and I, I
agree. Actually, it was funny that, um, I had,
I had asked people, I said, Hey, look, I don't
care about the FETs. Make me care about them.
What should I look towards? And someone said
to care about Boba specifically, look at Boba
Fett is dead. And you know, I was like, okay,
cool. And then I saw the first volume and I'm
like, okay, well I'll get them both because they
look like they're a story that is, you know,
it's kind of like. Coming up from IDW, you'll
have Dark Cybertron Part 1 and Part 2 trades.
you gotta get part one in order to understand
what the hell is going on in part two. But when
the stories were coming out, the issues were
coming out, they did not make it clear. Yeah,
one, two, three, four, and one, two, three, four.
Yeah, yeah. I don't know why they just didn't
make it an eight -issue mini. And then just they
could have still done what they did with the
trades, which is great for me. I will say overall,
as far as the design aesthetic of the intro and
the first pages in the back of the book very
good very galactic empire looking star like I
can see some of like when when you open that
open either one of the trades and you see the
the He's acknowledged as the galaxy's greatest
and most feared bounty hunter that page where
they have the top board. It looks like a star
like something you would see. Oh, yeah. Very
much so. Absolutely awesome. All right. I know
you got to go. Where can the people find Star
Joe's? Sure. Well, one thing I did want to throw
out there, too, is if you're interested in reading
some other good Boba Fett stories, or Jango Fett
stories for that matter, there's Star Wars Jango
Fett Open Seasons is a good Jango Fett story.
It's a four part mini series. Enemy of the Empire
is a four -part miniseries that's very good.
You have Boa Fett basically going up against
Darth Vader, which is really cool. And then if
you ever want to know how the hell did Boa Fett
survive the Sarlacc pit, because he does. No,
he doesn't. Yes, he does. No, he doesn't. Yes,
he does. No, he doesn't. So there is two places
where you can read that story. One is... a book
called Tales from Jabba's Palace, which is a
bunch of short stories of various characters
that were in Jabba's Palace. And then you can
also read The Bounty Hunter Wars, which is a
three book story. And it opens up talking about
Boba Fett surviving the Sarlacc and Dengar. the
bandaged up guy, helping him to recover and everything
else. So both of those are good places to read
those stories to find out how and why that happened.
So yeah, I'm glad to hear that you've changed
your mind a little bit about Boba Fett. In these
stories, in the films, not so much. No, and I
understand that. As far as Star Joes goes, you
can find us at StarJos .com. And you can also
find us on Facebook and Twitter. We're at star
Joe's podcast I just to throw out there some
things that we do we cover Star Wars GI Joe Transformers
all your favorite 80s properties focusing mostly
on the comics We do have episodes called star
Joe's the animated a real animated hero where
we go back to the GI Joe cartoons and We watch
them with adult eyes and have a lot of fun with
them We do, if you want more Star Wars, we do
episodes called the EU Strikes Back, where we
go over the Star Wars books, the novels that
have been out there, and we do relate the comics
back to the novels as well. So we kind of make
sure that people are understanding the whole
expanded universe and aren't getting overwhelmed
by it. And we just recently will be coming out
with an episode called previews and a half show
where we actually look through the previews catalog
with a star Joe's eye. So we're talking about
the books that are going to be coming out in
a couple of months that are related to our podcast.
So. For other Star Wars coverage here inside
the pull bag, I know people recommended to me
Darth Vader in the Ghost Prison. Yes, that is
awesome. There was another one. What's the one
that ties into the movies? Sith something? Sith
War? Yeah, there's a lot I could tell you. I
would say Dark Empire is fantastic. That is that
is one that I would put up there Crimson Empire
is really great Yeah, so over the course of the
podcast and in the in the year two of the show
We will have more Star Wars coverage not much,
but we will have more I'm just trying to look
here through Star Wars tales of the Jedi the
Sith War. Oh, that's one That's what? someone
had recommended to me. And I would recommend
reading that with the mindset that you're not
going to read any characters that you ever knew
from Star Wars. Okay, then it's coming out of
my wish list right now. I will still say that
is my second favorite Star Wars story ever, is
the Sith War. But if you want to read something
with the characters that you know from the movies,
read Dark Empire. Okay, Dark Empire. Alright,
awesome. Alright, so for the pullback I have
