About this Episode

Mike and Jesse conclude their crossover episode covering Boom! Studios's Power Rangers: Sins of the Future, a Time Force-focused story about Jen and Wes trying to maintain their relationship across time. They discuss the comic's beautiful artwork, confusing time-travel plot that introduces the character Saira (a Black Time Force Ranger), and the story's attempt to tie together too many elements—from Project Midnight to the origins of the Morphing Grid—that ultimately muddy the narrative. The hosts debate whether the ending works and lament the sidelining of the rest of the Time Force team.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, this is the pull

bag. I am of course TF2 on mic. Joining me is

Jesse Raz. Hello, sir. Hello and We are here

coming to you before this episode of the podcast

because Jesse and I recorded the psychopath and

time for time since the future God, I forgot

what the title was It's confusing in however

you spend it. You'll find out. Yes, you'll find

out we are coming to you before these episodes

of the pull bag because When we initially recorded

these it was before Jason David Frank passed

away So I didn't want to release these and not

have a little buffer beforehand because I'm sure

that the two of us mentioned him at some point

in both of these episodes And with him passing

away, I think it was November, so it was like

right before or after Thanksgiving, I think.

I don't remember off the top of my head. And

off the top of my head is pretty much, I don't

know anymore. He passed away November 19th. 19th,

that's, oh God. Yeah. But regardless, so, you

know, we'll probably mention him a few times.

I think it's in reference to I talk about Soul

of the Dragon. And we just don't want you to

listen and go, man, they're really kind of being

blase. They're not really, you know, I wish they

would be more reverent. This was where these

were recorded before his untimely passing. And

so, yes, he's note that if you know. Anything

that we say we don't say anything disrespectful

because we love the guy but just note that if

you like man It's weird that they're not referencing

that it's not that we're glazing over it it just

hadn't happened and we didn't believe it would

ever happen and This is the world we live in

not not this early. Anyway, I mean that man was

only 49 years old And, yeah, and if you want

to hear us do a full tribute to both him and

Kevin Conroy, you can listen to Geekcast Radio

episode 309, where Steve, myself, and Jesse paid

tribute to both of them. Now, on with the show,

I guess. This is Jason David Frank, and you're

listening to the Geekcast Radio Network. This

is Daniel Southworth, and you're listening to

From the Command Center. Thanks, guys. Katie,

gladly. Ow! Hello and welcome to The Pull Bag!

This is episode 504. That's right, folks, 504

episodes. And we're continuing on in the 2023

journey of the show. We're just starting here

in January. It's cold and I'm loving it. I'm,

of course, TF2 and Mike. Joining me, as sort

of always, is Mr. Jesse Raz. Hello, sir. How

are you? Time Force Gold reporting for duty.

Did they have a time for you and your gold, man?

Why you got to be the gold? Who the hell are

you, Fred Campbell? Oh, yeah. No, you know, here's

the thing. So, uh, I. You listen, it goes all

the way back to Zio when Jason came back as the

Gold Ranger. I love that. And that's one of those

storylines that, you know, when we get ready

to talk about since the future and when we talked

about Psycho Path, that like, along with the

Zio crystal, like, I think there is there's a

story to be told there. There's there's some

threads that can be picked up. And so I'm just

waiting on them to do that. So until then, I'll

just be the gold whatever. So yes, as you said

Power Rangers sins of the future back of the

book says a love that crosses all of time and

space After defeating the villainous rancid along

with their allies in the time -traveling time

force Pink Ranger Jen Scott's and Red Ranger

Wes Collins are giving their relationship a real

try without sacrificing their commitment to the

Silver Guardians And Time Force. Oh, Lord. Yeah.

It's a it's a relationship comic, folks. Great.

It's the to make it even more succinct. Jen's

trying to have her cake and eat it, too. Yeah.

Yeah. The creative team on this is Matthew Erman.

I have never heard of him with story by Trey

Moore. Giuseppe Caffaro is on illustrations,

Francisco Segala is the colorist, Ed Dukeshire

is the amazing letterer, and Diego Galindo did

the main cover, and oh man, I love that main

cover. That's cool. I mean, you know, one of

the things that my, like, complaints or non -complaints

is I think the artwork in here is pretty good.

It's not my favorite, but I think it's pretty

good. I think, you know, like I said, With psychos

path, I think all the character designs look

Like I can see the artists style But it's not

but they're close enough to the actual actors

that I think you know, it works I think I think

it really works and it's not upset Yeah, absolutely

and these even more so I have it like zoomed

in on this front cover That looks just like Aaron

Cahill that looks just like yes Jason font Mean

which Jason thought by the way doesn't freaking

age and it's not fair Yeah, that guy does not

age at all like I don't know what kind of kind

of health stuff he does or whatever But but he

yeah, is he actually a time Force Ranger and

just stuck in a time loop cuz I think so and

if anything if anything He looks better now than

he did on the damn show and the yeah, the show

is like 20 Three years old now. Not fair. That's

not to say that any of the other cast doesn't

look good. I just haven't seen them recently.

And he's been he's done Ranger cameos. So, you

know, he's he's all over social media. I know

some of the others are too specifically. Specifically

the time force. I'm not, I'm not talking about

JDF. I'm not talking about Austin. I'm not talking

about any of the other, I'm saying specifically

to the time force cast, I see Aaron Cahill online

here and there, but Jason is by far online the

most out of them all. He's part of that group

of Rangers that are the former Rangers. I'll

say that like do the rounds on the circuits and

kind of like there, there's a group of them for

a while there that like. You would see at cons

all together. Yeah, they kind of hung out and

Not so much anymore, but it used to be like there

was a JDF crew And then there was kind of everybody

else and sometimes they would mix but most of

the time not so much But yeah JDF has kind of

decided he's kind of doing his own thing. You

don't see him as much with all the other crew

Yeah, at least it doesn't appear that way. I

you know, I don't know. I don't know I am still

I'm not jaded about it, but I'm still waiting

on my copy of Legend of the White Dragon. Damn

it. Yeah. They've been trying to... They never...

Okay. I was going to say, because I remember

the hype around that. He's still hyping it up.

It's just like, I think the last thing I saw

was that they started filming or they were in

the middle of filming, but everything changed

from the first time he got it. to be on kickstarter

or wherever it was because i didn't know that

that was the same project because what they originally

promoted and then what became the white dragon

were different and i know they've got stuff filmed

because they put out a pretty decent looking

trailer yeah but i feel like that's all they've

got i don't know i don't know either and you

know what The money's been out of my account

for a number of years now, so I'm not worried

about it. It's not like, oh my God. That's one

thing I do love about the Kickstarters is if

the campaigns are successful, they take payment

once the success, and then you just wait. Like

right now I'm currently waiting for... I know

some of my listeners on the pullback probably

know who this band is. I don't know if you know.

Have you ever heard of the Cybertronic Spree?

That's a negatory there, Red Leader. Okay, well

They are an amazing Transformers band. I have

a feeling they dress up and they have ours like

the girls and what I like the one of the girls

has an RC suit one of the so they all dress up

as various characters and They are putting out

their own unique official Original album called

ravage. So I backed that and I'm just waiting

on that but I think I'll get that before I ever

see lit and I understand things happen. I understand

JDF probably can't technically use Tommy, but

when I saw that original campaign trailer, when

they're like, you're your daughter, and it's

Adam. It's Johnny Young Bosch and him, and it's

Wes. I'm like, oh God, that looks so good. Then

the first campaign didn't get funded. did it

again a year later, right as, or right in the

middle of the pandemic. I'm like, Oh, okay. I'll,

I'll back it. I'll just wait until I get an email

saying, Oh, by the way, here you go. Here's the

final, final finished film, but we are not here

to talk about all that. We're here to talk about

time for us. And wow, man, this is, uh, you said

this was confusing for you. Yes. And I. So I

know what I know about you is everybody I feel

like everybody has a Power Rangers series that

just speaks to them that like I don't know if

it's the right. It was the right part of your

childhood. If it was the subject. So I know time

force was a big one for you. Right. Yeah. So

yeah, I was. So for me, I grew up in the original.

I was 13 when Mighty Morphin came out. So I was

still in that, I was more in the age of yes,

I was still watching cartoons, but I was also

in middle school and high school and things like

that. But I never re like it never really left.

Like we said last week, you know, in space was

1998. 25 years ago, because this episode, we're

releasing this in 2023, folks. It's been 25 years

since in space. It's been over 20 years for just

over 20 years for TimeForce. And for me, it's

all about if something can grab me, if a trailer

or if a this or if a commercial or whatever,

it's like, oh, what's this? And for me, it was

like, oh, Power Ranger, they're still doing it?

Like, I don't know. Like, after Lost Galaxy,

I... What was it after Lost Galaxy? Uh, Lightspeed

Rescue? Yeah, I remember that one. Yep, yep,

yep. Yeah, because I watched Lightspeed. I get

a little muddy. My point in bringing that up

is, Time Force is about the time that I checked

out a little bit of the Power Rangers universe.

Now, I have gone back and watched most of Time

Force, but it's not one of those that I am very

familiar with. have a personal vested interest

in so I will preface that going forward yeah

so yeah so the order went turbo space galaxies

light speed time force and then wild force yeah

and wild force I can't even bring myself to go

back and watch in its entirety Like, I like Forever

Red. That's the only thing. But God, the acting

in it, the whole premise of it, it's just, yeah,

they lost me on that. And then, you know, I went

back and I watched Mystic Force because I kind

of missed that. Mystic Force was fine. I liked

that. Operation Overdrive makes me want to just

hit my head against the wall. Again, same thing,

but I'll go back and watch that anniversary episode

because that was fun. Yeah, that was, that was,

that was Adam. Yeah. Which it, which it's a problem

when your anniversary episode and you create

a new team of Rangers based on old Rangers and

that team is much more interesting, better everything

than the current team you have. Yup. Yup. You

know, so yeah. Yeah. So for me, it was like,

So yes, I grew up with the original Zordon era

stuff and I liked it all up until the end of

time force. Like time force for me was my kind

of cutoff. So I, I did watch part of wild force

and I did obviously watch forever red, but after

forever red and the, and the finale of time of

a wild force, I was like, okay, I'm done. Ninja

storm. It was okay, but then you get No, I enjoyed

it. It was fine. It was okay. It was whatever

it got really good when Blake and and what's

his name? The Thunder Rangers showed up. Yes,

but But then you get I believe this was what

was that 2005? Yeah, it had to be 2000. Yeah,

then you you bring him back You get Dido fun.

So for me Time Force, Dino Thunder, and SBD,

SPD, I should say. Silent but deadly. Yeah. Those

are my shows after the regular original era.

And the other eras, I... SBD, by the way, was

badass. Yes, it was. Yeah, I'm very interested

in the current... Hasbro era. That new Saban

era, oh god, it hurts my head. We talked about

this a little bit last week, so I won't redelve,

but he went really hardcore back into that formula.

And so between his formula of, you know, everything

has to be about the toy sales. It's a show hyper

-targeted at kids. And it being a non -union

show, there wasn't really a lot of room for fan

service. And for whatever reason, Saban hated

ninjas, which is why we had Ninja Steel and there

was no mention of like ninja at all. So yeah,

so that Neo Saban era kind of there were some

good things and back to basics kind of things.

And then there were some other things that, you

know, Saban was a real stickler on that just

didn't really help. enhance the product. So,

you know, but anyway, I brought that up because

I know you have a soft spot for time for so I

think where we where we are going to differ in

our opinions is going to come from that right

there. Yeah, I'm I'm an old hat. You're kind

of like, it's kind of like how I how I explain

to people the difference between Steve Megatron

and myself when it comes to Star Trek. He's knee

deep in the hoopla when it comes to Star Trek.

And I'm like sitting on the edge of the universe

with that stuff. Right. you know so yeah and

that's that's exactly where this is going to

come from but now all that out of the way i will

say that is a problem with this book because

and and hear me out yeah because i i'm a big

power rangers fan so that's why i got the book

and wanted to read it Now, Time Force is not,

again, not my favorite one. I haven't seen every

episode. It's not dedicated to heart, but I know

the basic story of it. Yeah. And I'm fucking

confused. Like it hurts my goddamn head. Whereas

with Psycho's Path, I feel like you have, they

do enough explanation. To catch and get you up

to speed if it's been a bit since you've watched

power Rangers and all that, you know Power Rangers

in space here. They don't do dick when it comes

to reminding you. Oh, yeah There's a dude in

the future that looks like Jason Fond, but it's

not Jason Fond It's some dude named fucking Alex

like it took me like six seconds to go. Oh, yeah,

that's right That's who fucking Alex is. Okay,

like so yeah Yeah. Man, I'm loving this episode.

Of course you do. Of course you do. No, no, no.

This is great because if you would have said

anything to me like, help me out here. Help me

understand this. I could have pointed you to

just the very first, all as you really needed

to understand and not be lost is the very first

maybe two or three episodes where they explain

that Alex was Jen's husband or engaged to be

married to or whatever. Yeah. And then, and then

he supposedly dies. And then she goes back in

time to 2001. Yeah. And then she spends from

2001 to I assume 2006 in that timeline. And you

have Wes and who is who is basically An ancestor

of future Alex and everything else and all this

and all that Yeah, because because like if I

remember the show correctly and I think I found

it confusing on the show is he dies you go back

Obviously, they're the same actor because they're

it's their relatives You know the whole Marty

McFly plays every single one of his relatives

and for some reason they all have the hots for

Leah Thompson Kind of motif But then, like, I

got confused because he's supposed to be dead,

but then you come back and he kind of is the

bad guy a little bit? Like, he's kind of dark?

In the show or in the comic? In the show. In

the show, no. So he didn't actually die. They

faked his death and he becomes the pilot of the

Time Shadow. Yeah. So he is still doing... time

force where he's not he hasn't gone evil he is

just oh we need to keep my identity secret even

from jen she can't know i'm alive because she's

gonna want to come back to the year 3000 because

he's kind of he's kind of a prick right yeah

a little bit okay okay but it just kind of threw

me off because again going back to the fact that

power rangers is a kids show usually when you

show somebody in the dark and you have that sort

of dramatic lighting on him, which they did quite

a bit, at least initially. They're telling you,

hey, kids, not a good guy. You know, usually

that's kind of how. Yeah, so I yeah, I that's

where my head's at with that. So anyway, let's

get into it because I'm never going to get this

time back again. So we kick off. Like. Sort of

in the thick of things. And then we go back in

time. That's right. Where, you know, we've got

the Silver Guardians fighting some more leftover

bad guys that are kind of there. Yeah, cyclobots.

Yeah. And then and then Jen comes back and they

they team up and they fight and you find out

they've got a date. But for some reason, Jen's

on this really strict time schedule because that's

how time travel works. Apparently. You know,

anytime there's a time travel movie, I do appreciate

when they establish rules and stick with them,

even if they are arbitrary, but it is a little

stupid. It's like, well, I have to be back by

this time because it translates to this time

and really get the fucking time machine! Yes,

but it's like Doc Brown always says, you know,

you have to think fourth dimensionally, Jesse.

You have to... Make sure you're on the right

set of rules. All right, but head. Hey, you know.

Yeah. But anyway, so they go. So we revisit their

relationship and they're there. You know, they're

they're trying to make this work, which it's

the ultimate long distance relationship. Yeah.

We get a little bit. We get to see a little bit

of. You know, the former team, we do get a little

bit of Alex, I guess that's who it is, in there.

And, you know, we see that Jen's kind of solitary.

She's not really got much of a social life. And

then, you know, Alex comes in and promotes her

to Hyperforce. Yep. Which is a really interesting

nod because of, you know, Power Rangers. Isn't

that the... RPG game the the game that is sort

of man. I don't even know Well, anyway So she's

getting a promotion. He's like, oh, yeah, by

the way that whole like Thing that you were doing

with You know with your past fling romance. Yeah,

that's got to end So if you could just break

go and break up with him, that would be great

Yeah, yeah, if you could go break up with my

great -great -great -great -great -great -great

-great -great -great -grandfather, that would

be fun. Oh, Hyper Force is the web series, that's

what it is. Oh, that's what it is. It's a role

-playing game with bulk and yeah, which is really

cool and it's made its way into Power Rangers

canon and so it's really interesting that they...

Kind of drop that nod in here, which is really

cool. But anyway, yeah, he's like, yeah, if you

could go and then by the way, if you could also

pull a men in black and just like memory wipe

in too, so he doesn't remember any of this. And

it's like, OK, cool. So that's that's how we're

starting. So she goes back there to try to break

up with him. Then the clock tower is back. And

then we get, oh, there's a black time force ranger.

Dun dun dun. Yeah. And. Again, this is why I

love these comics, because you get to add so

much more than the show allows. And Time Force,

because it was time travel and they did rely

on certain rules, it's a very linear straightforward

series. I don't remember every episode, but I

remember most of the show was a fluid... Beginning

middle and end in the in its entirety of its

season there may have been One two, maybe three

at the most episodes that were like here. Here's

the piranhas head episode or here Here's the

here's the dumbass football episode. Yeah Yeah,

it was pretty story -driven. Yeah, you know The

thing I have a problem with in the book that

they didn't do a lot. They did enough of it in

the in the show. But like the consequences of

what you're doing in the past, reflecting the

future and kind of changing that they that especially

at the end kind of became a thing. But like it

wasn't like every episode. It's like, the fuck

are you doing? Why did you kick that rock? Now

that you know what I'm saying? Like they didn't

dwell on that, which you could easily do with

a group of people from the future just hanging

out in the past. But this book Really kind of

drives that shit home for some reason. Yep. And

the new Time Force Black Ranger is Cyra Drake.

She is the sister of Alex. Okay, and I'm assuming

we meet her in the TV show because I did not

remember her at all. No. Oh, good! This is brand

new. She is the sister of the original Red Force,

Red Time Force Ranger Alex. When Rantzik and

his crew invaded the Time Force prison, Alex

was killed, causing Cyra to burst into anger

against her. So, when the time stream was changed,

Alex came back to life, Cyra realized her memories.

Yeah, so she seems to be, yeah, first appearance

was Sins of the Future. Yeah, so that's like

a huge thing I have. You go back in retcon this

character who doesn't exist in the show Yeah,

but like we don't find her out until like midway

through Yeah, just to introduce her as this black

time force ranger like it just No, I would almost

rather JDF be the fucking black time for stranger

like that would have made more sense Stop it.

Stop it. So anyway, I Love but I gotta say though.

I love Love her design. Oh, absolutely like that.

That's a badass design She had a dark saber before

anybody in Star Wars ever did Like that's that's

badass, but the other problem I have though with

this is She like comes in kicks ass yep, and

then it's like oh they're dead Yeah, like no

like no checking also. There's like three times

where their visors are shattered in this way

How fragile are these fucking visors in these

helmets like like I get you're trying to illustrate

that this was a badass beatdown But yeah, come

on. Yeah So, you know, she leaves them for dead

because she assumes they're dead. She don't even

like check on them because you know So She, you

know, and of course to add insult to injury,

you know, Wes is basically bleeding out here

and she's like, yeah, by the way, I'm done with

this shit. We've got to break up. I got to go

figure this out. Die. Don't die. Whatever. I'm

over it. I don't have to keep you alive. And

if I don't keep you alive and you die, then obviously

Alex was never reborn and we won't have to worry

about any of this continuity crap. I don't know.

I don't know who got a worse breakup. Tommy.

So anyway, she tries to go back to the future

and Allah, you know back to the future She goes

back and it's a different future. So she goes

to see her friends Well, her friends are there

but they're like Who the hell are you? She's

they're treating her like she's the enemy they

kick her ass again She's unwarfed Kicks the blue

time Force Ranger and breaks his fucking visor.

How fragile are these suits? These suits are

are not Well, and so this is a this I don't know

if this was a continuity error or story error

or what this was But so again, she's facing off

with them unmoored. So my My sense is she doesn't

want to hurt them. So that's why she's doing

it But then we get this panel where it says Jen

Scott's unmoored with your hands up She's not

morphed. Yeah. Yeah, I think that's just I didn't

notice yeah, I've noticed things in comic sometimes

and it's like Yeah, yeah, that's not yeah. Yeah,

he's not morphed at all. Yeah, so so we've got

that Anyway, the fight sequences are fairly good,

but then for no apparent reason Nadira comes

back And totally pulls a Gin Scott's come with

me if you want to live, you know kind of moment.

Yeah, um You know takes her to her little hidey

hole. Yeah And then starts dropping some exposition

around, you know You know cuz she's from the

future. Yep she's a Time professor now. I don't

know what she's she went to she went to time

community college. She got a degree She better

yourself, you know? But I like that. Okay. So

what, one of the things I like about this and

I like about the overall time force continuity

is that even though it's confusing as hell at

times. Yeah. So she's yeah, the, the, the time

force, like the whole thing of it is you have

to just be careful with it. And yeah, so, but

what I was going to say was I like that Nadira

isn't on, isn't back on an evil path. I like

that they're going from the continuity of the

show where she was kind of reformed, Rancic was

kind of reformed kind of thing. And yeah, it's

- I don't have - Yeah, I don't have a fault with

that like per se, you know, like yeah, I think

that's that that is that's a good use of the

story like and that is a very natural Yes, that's

where we we left this character. They were on

this path. They stayed on this path I I don't

have a problem with that. I know I I joke that

you know, she went back to time time community

college She got a degree. She bettered herself

good for her, you know, but it's just Then we

then we cut back to the present and the black

time Force Ranger apparently realizes Oh, yeah,

I didn't kill him. So I got to go back and do

it now and You know, they they have this fight

which I like the blue effect by the way that

they put on it's not just jet black It is kind

of shiny. So I do like that And so they go back

and then basically Wes writes an email to the

future Yeah It's like hey, by the way black the

black came back and I died so go enjoy your life

Yeah, exactly and again to the future Oh Email

to the future. I mean, that's like that's like

right up there with Doc Brown sending out Western

Union Telegraph Yeah, pretty much. Yeah, it's

that's yeah, absolutely You know, the only thing

missing from that sequence is... Jen! Jen Scotts!

Yep. We've been having a bet as to see if you'd

be here or not! Yes, yes. So, anyway, so we get

- We've had this bet going for two thousand years

at this point. What is it? It's Wes! He's dead!

I mean, he's still back in his time and he's

dead. So anyway, we still don't know what the

fuck is going on. And so, you know, Nadira has

a little bit of an insight. So they decide to

work together. They team up. They go to Time

Force headquarters in the fake present. You know,

that kind of thing. And they sneak in. We get

some flashbacks, I guess. Is this supposed to

be like her and Alex or her and Wes? I'm confused.

Let me see here. Where she's like, I remember

everything. Wait, this isn't right. This isn't

the moment here. We were fighting for real happiness,

real joy. I can't lose these moments too. Because

obviously it sounds like her brain. I guess this

would be... Should be her and Wes I think I guess

but but are these Jen's memories though because

Yeah, I don't know because it's in gray. So I'm

kind of wondering if that's not the black the

black power it time force black So is that out

see this again, this is where my frustration

lies. Yeah, this is why it's confusing. Yeah,

um So we run into rancic No, it's a time blip.

It's time blip. We get more exposition from Nadira.

We go forth. We got a saber tooth tiger. It's

time blip. More or less of these. They're trying

to break into the... They're trying to get into

the secret place where all the secrets are kept.

Blah, blah, blah. And, you know, they get in

there. Eventually, though, don't they? Is that

real rancid that they run into or? Yeah, I can.

Yeah, that's where it gets. It was a little harder

to follow for me. Yeah, I think there is only

one rancid. I think rancid shows up in the past,

but that's. But like, okay, so here's another

example of like some confusion. So the panel

where they're, you know, because they're in this

like, they find out about like Project Midnight,

which is allegedly where this is designed. And

then the black Time Force Ranger shows up, where

I like the blue sort of glow. This thing has

a straight up blue visor. So it like, at first,

when I looked at it, I was like, wait, is that

one of the actual time force? No, okay. Not,

you know, not hard to follow, but again, just

enough like a bad color choice, I think, from

an artistic standpoint. Again, when you've got

a story that's always that's already a little

harder to follow. Well, yeah, well, yeah, the

black Time Force Rangers visor is bluish and

then you mix that with the pink and you get all

all the paints mixed together. Yeah, and she

keeps going on about, like, you took everything

from me, you did this, blah, blah, blah, tried

to fix this, but, you know, this is why I was

given this morpher to basically murder you, stop

you, whatever, they're back and forth, you know,

tries to kill her, and then they go fighting

in the time stream. Yep. And, you know, at one

point it looked like, which would have been kind

of badass, but made no sense. It looks kind of

like Jin took the Titanic and is fighting with

her in one panel. Yep. Um, you know, and they're

dropping in the, the one panel where they're

fighting with the backdrop of the dragon's art

was kind of cool. Oh, yes, it was. That was kind

of cool. But like we get this back and forth

sort of exposition where they keep talking about

Alex. And so that's kind of lead you to figure

out that this is Alex's sister. Yep. Later on.

But then it's like, Oh, wait, Alex had a sister,

like, and then we go back and then Wes is there.

So we can see him and Yep. Yeah, I don't know

what I mean. What are your thoughts about this

whole sequence of like finding out who? Because

also sorry one more thing and then I'll let you

go bit like She says the line you look just like

me. So my first thought is this is a Wes's sister

This is an alternate Jen, but no sub for some

reason Wes's sister looks like Jen with blonde

hair So now we've got back -to -the -future -esque

incest. It's weird. It's so fucking weird, dude.

Yeah, it's supposed to be Alex's sister. Cyra

Drake is Alex's sister. Yeah. So she's the great,

great, great, great, great, great, great, times

20 greats, yawned of of Wes or whatever. And.

I got to say, I even though I. mentioned the

colors a little while, a minute ago, like about

the blue visor and the pink and the whatever.

Like that upside down pose battle where it kind

of looks like Jen and Saira are in some sort

of weird power and just porn. Jen looks like

she's about to grab her butt. Yeah. You know,

kind of thing. I am loving this whole time distortion

stuff on the next couple of pages. Like you mentioned

the dragon's or the dragon. I'm like, Hey, hi

buddy. Let's go. Get in the flight. Why are you

just standing there? But yeah, and you know,

it's nice. And this is a little bit of a tangent,

but it kind of, I thought it was a nice touch

because, um, you know, in time force that the

Q rex, which is kind of like that. And then eventually,

um, in, um, mega force, the silver rangers Zord

is actually said that, that they call also the

Q rex is an amalgamation of If you watch the

Sentai, it is the combination of the Dragon Zord,

the Q -Rex, and then the White Dino Thunder Zord.

Yep. The Drago Zord, yeah. So anyway, that reminded

me of that. But yes, the sequence is artistically

kind of cool. Yeah, the sequence is artistically

awesome. What is said in the story and everything

else is good, but you it's one of those weird.

I, we have to follow every single word and sometimes

even then when we do, we're not going to understand

it. Yeah. And it gets, it gets like the arts

really cool, but you almost can't pay attention

to it because you have to follow this a B C D.

Wait, did you say Alex? So like, it just, it

makes it, the art almost makes it harder to follow,

I guess. And so I had to reread that a few times.

Yeah. Yeah, and then we get, we eventually get

the reveal, you know, where she rips the helmet

off. Because again, time force helmets are just,

they're just trash. They're not supposed to be.

I don't think they're supposed to be trash. So,

you know, and then we do we do get a little backstory,

you know, of her, which helps. But again, I couldn't

help but like wonder, having not, you know, followed

time. Yeah. Wait, are we supposed to know who

this person is? Like, see, I don't think we are

because even though it says we are, But she is

a character created for this story. I don't even

think there was a mention of her in Alex's bio

or anything for the original Time Force. I really

don't. I think she's a completely new character

creation for this show. And I'm just, I don't

know, on these sorts of things, I don't think,

if you're gonna do that, you can't wait till

page 56 of this book to really sort of establish

her. I feel like you need to do a better job

in the beginning of setting kind of that up.

because it's kind of like in so in Justice League

the Bruce Tim cartoon when like When Lex Luthor

switches bodies with the flash and he pulls flashes,

you know mask off and he goes I don't know this

person is that's kind of what this reveal felt

like it was like she pulls it off and it's like

and so i don't really have any investment in

this character so it's not a shock yeah and i

now i'm like the fact spoiler alert the fact

that she survives in the end i'm like i don't

care like i mean i care because i like that we're

getting more with the character i just wish that

There was more to like, so I'm on the ranger

wiki power rangers .fandom .com and I went and

I looked at Alex's page and sadly they have not

added anything for his, his family or anything

like, like she's not even listed under it, but

you know, it just, it's one of those things where

I thought, Oh, maybe there'll be something in

here. That says something about the fact that

he had a sister. And again, I don't think there

is because that shoot, like I said, this is a

fully Korean character for this story. And you're

right. Because of that fact, it is time confusing.

And at the same time, I still like it because

it's fresh. It's new. She's got a badass character

design. In Morph and out like technically she's

she does kind of look like Jen but not really.

But like just that that that suit that you know

it just it's all so interesting to me and adding

suck is when I first watch time force when I

was 21 years old back in 2000 like oh Alex okay

he's dead oh wait he comes back is is the time

shadow. pilots or whatever like great fine but

he's still not once jen finds out he died and

she now starts trying to have a relationship

with wes alex is like That's my ex. That's my,

he's dead. That's my, oh, wait, he came back

to life. Oh, great. But I don't want, I've had

so much time in the past in 2001 with Wes and,

and Katie and Tripp and, and Lucas and all that.

Like, I don't give a shit. Like I care about

Alex. Fine. But like, he's not my future. Wes

is my future. So the whole thing of me enjoying

Alex having a sister actually makes me think

more about his character as well as enjoying

this original character through the comic. Yeah.

And I, I appreciate that. Like I, I see that

and my, I guess my frustration is not with her

being in the comic so much as it's Like how she

was introduced like like I feel like they were

probably there could have been a better way of

having her exist Sort of in the beginning of

this book. Yeah and and in sort of a meaningful

way maybe Without because it's kind of like in

like in a horror film Where the killer ends up

being? Somebody you you don't know who the hell

it is And then you're like, oh, this was so -and

-so's, the first, the killer from the first movie,

that was his mother. We just didn't know it.

You know, it kind of thing. And that's kind of

what it feels like here. It was just like, oh,

it's his sister. And like, her motivation makes

sense. Like, I'll say that. She's trying to prevent

the death of her brother. Yep. Which he didn't

really die, though. Yeah, she just thinks he

just thinks he is. So so she thinks he did. So

she's going back and creating all of these. And

then of course, so then, you know, Jen sort of

like, they make friends in true Power Rangers

fashion, and they got to figure out, okay, let's

figure out what the hell's causing this. So they

team up. You know, which again, is kind of confusing.

Her and Nadira, you know, they go back, and they

But, you know, again, this is where we get a

little bit more backstory. Because I needed it

about Ferik. Yeah, Ferik. Yeah, Dr. Ferik, yeah,

Fraks, yeah. Which in that, because, you know,

again, it's been a bit. So we get a little bit

of that. So I appreciate that. But then we go

down this weird rabbit hole of Jin murdered Wes

all of this stuff because they're still in the

past and Alpha's around Didn't Somehow he's in

there And then you know we go and we call for

help we call rancic for help Yeah, cuz director

rancic is is the reformed rancic. Yeah, and he's

director of time force, right? Yeah. Okay. Yep

So it's kind of revealed, oh gosh, this dude,

wow, he really made something of himself. He

became president or whatever. So they go to this,

they learn about outpost one and the castle,

which it exists outside of space time. So how

do they get there? They get in a ship and they

got to kick it to 88 miles per hour. That's right.

That's the only way. I kind of wish that she'd

gotten in there and said, let's see if you bastards

can do 90. Or at some point at the end, why do

we have to cut these things so damn close? They

get to this outpost outside of time, which did...

Did Loki read this comic and you know what kind

of feels a little bit? Yeah, I mean most of the

time travel stuff and you know this but time

and everyone listening inside of my voice right

now knows this Time travel stuff. That's why

they call it timing. Why me? It's always messed

up and mixed up and mixed around. And like we've

already we've already mentioned, obviously, Back

to the Future, obviously, Avengers. They like

everybody does it and everybody does it in different

ways or everybody takes some people do it better

than others is kind of what I agree. Yes, I agree

with you. because, you know, again, we were kind

of skipping forward, but they, you know, they

go on, they got to get to this final castle and,

you know, beyond time. And this is where my head

hurts and where I get really confused. So they're

trying to basically create a morpher that you

can time travel in because, you know, time force

Rangers, they can't, they have to be in a ship,

but this black time force Ranger can time travel.

Yep. And so, the doctor has this line, which

brings me to my latest trial. Using hardened

alloy of the cyclobots exterior, I'm able to

dress up one of my volunteers, a young man from

Eltar, hopefully making him impervious to the

Time Orb. Hey, or Z, everything okay in there?

Begin Operation Overdrive! Is he trying to say

that he fucking created Zordon and Operation

Overturn? Like, none of that makes sense! None

of it! Yeah, I know. Like, what are you trying

to do? He's... Fricks is trying to fix the past,

you know. So, Fricks is a copy of Dr. Ferrex.

Dr. Ferrex used to be Fracks. Yes. So, you got

Fricks and Fracks. You got a Fricks to Fracks

and Fracks to Fricks. Again, I've got a diagram

on Yes. Yeah. It's one of those recycle. It just

has arrows circling the names, Fricks, Fracks.

But then, like, my other question is... She,

you know, Nadira says the morphing grid. No.

Is this how it all started? And she does say

the chronal skips, but I'm like, yeah. Are you

trying to imply that this was the birth of the

morphing grid? Because like this story at its

core, this is my overarching problem with it.

It's trying to do too fucking much. Yeah, it

is. That's the ultimate. Blunder with time travel

stories is you don't stick to one thing of going

between the past, present and future. Like is

it's trying to tie in so much stuff. You know,

like the best time travel stories. And again,

I'll use two and as an example, back to the future.

Okay. You have a clear objective in one. It's

to get home. Oh, in the process of that, I fucked

up my parents' relationship, I'm gonna get on

board. Okay, gotta fix their relationship, then

get home. Cool. In two, you've got a similar

objective, okay? I've gotta do, I've gotta go

undo the shit that Biff did. Yep. Cool. And then,

you know, hijinks and stuff. I don't really understand

what this mission is other than... Time is wonky.

I gotta go fix it. Yeah, and I don't I think

if they had defined that better Yeah, everything

would work Yeah, no, I completely agree And yeah,

you're right. It just Again for me the story

doesn't work, but I love seeing the characters

go through what they're going through right?

That's that's great. I mean they do It is good

fan service. Mm -hmm I love the name that her

sword is called the Midnight Sword, by the way.

I love that You know, they're kind of going through

all of this and then it's It's create, you know,

you find out which I thought we already knew

this that ferrex created the dude that created

Rancic right? Yep. Didn't we already know that?

Yeah, okay Um, but apparently like Nadira didn't,

or they wanted to remind us of that, that, you

know, ferrex became frax and then created fricks.

Uh, yeah, it's a whole thing. You know, again,

now they're giving a bunch of backstory that

I don't know is necessary. Like it just. Yeah,

it's, it's a whole thing and it. It just gets

too muddy. Yeah. Yeah, it it's like they're spinning

their tires in the mud is what they're doing

Because they're adding too much to the soup and

it's weird because this is a comic so obviously

like You know action is just pretty pictures.

It's not like full -on action sequences, but

like I Feel like there's not enough like they

try they tried it make up for the lack of like

actual like physical things happening by layering

all of this exposition over fight sequences or

happen in conversations and fight sequences.

Yeah. But it just becomes more confusing when

you sort of break it down that way. And so it's

just like, again, there's too much because now

Fricks kills or throws the black Ranger back

in the past and Yep, but then she's gotta go

back and kill Fricks and Then she realizes. Oh,

it's a paradox when she got thrown back. She

dropped her morpher Oh, all I got to do is go

back and tell her hey Hold on to this you're

gonna need it in about 20 years Get that bulletproof

vest cuz you're gonna piss off a bunch of Libyans,

you know, you know boom it's fixed Yeah. Yeah,

absolutely. And then, you know, we wrap it up

with an older. What's your face? Saira coming

back. She came to terms with her brother's death,

which, again, didn't really happen, right? Because

this makes it seem like it did and it was permanent.

So, like, again, though, like now we've changed

things that we knew and. Yeah. I don't drink

folks and I feel like I need a shot of Jack Daniels

or something. Is this an alternate timeline that

she's from but then now she can't get back to

you because Gin smashes the morpher? Yeah, so

that's what it is. I was looking on the wiki

about the rancid part of the whole thing with

Rancic and Nadira. These are the hyper force

versions of them. They are not the original.

Time force version of them. So this is with with

rancid and Nadira. So this is different versions

of them. And then at the end of this, and I'm

going to, I'm going to skip the end really quickly

here. She says to Wes in outpost one. You're

not going to remember this because we destroyed

all the other timelines or we destroyed all the

other multiverses or we did, you know, we, we,

we, we converged the crisis or whatever. So my

thinking is, is that Saira is Alex's sister from

a supposed another, but it's again, it's all

confusing. So I think she's from a separate universe.

that she had a brother named Alex, who looked

just like Wes, who was a time force officer,

who had something to do with the Jen Scots that

we never see. So the Jen that's in this is our

Jen from the original show, except the Jen that

Saira is talking about is somebody else from

her own timeline, I guess. That's the only way

that it makes sense to me is if you're right,

because I'm pretty sure Alex didn't... God, now

I gotta go look. Yeah, but, so, okay. Mm -hmm.

So all that being said, again, it hurts my head.

Mm -hmm. So here's another problem. So, yeah,

because she smashes the morpher and Cyra disappears.

We don't know what happens to her. Yes. Sometime

later, in the past or in the future, Wes and

Jen have a date. Yeah, they are not post one

so they are outside of time right right and and

I get that I get that too so they get to talking

and You know It's cute and I love it I love that

they get a kiss I Address man. Holy shit. Oh,

yeah They turned alpha 20 whatever he is into

a butler And I thought so he says I I I I these

plates are hot. I think I thought it said I I

I I these plot holes So anyway anyway, so we

go through this whole sequence it's pretty it

Did they talk about how you know, this can be

a base for them? whatever you know because it

doesn't exist nothing we do here really has any

effect yeah the end yep okay here's my problem

with this ending okay and so we start in the

exact same place that we end and that is there

is an inherent problem with this relationship

that we want we all as fans want to work we want

Jen and Wes to figure out how to make it work

with him in the past and her in the future Yep,

that's where we start Yep, and Exactly where

we're at no solution to that other than now they

can just meet and hook up in this place that

doesn't exist in space -time But they can't really

have a life together because you can't live there

not and so it's like we started with a problem

we went on a journey we Found out about a problem

solved that problem, but we never really addressed

the original fucking elephant in the room So

we're right back to where we started Sorry we

wasted your time. So I think that they are just

going to live out their lives in the outpost

and they're just going to be stranded in space

at the outpost. They're not going to go anywhere.

They're not going to go to the... I don't know.

But they can't do that. Because here's the the

headache of time travel. While nothing they do

there has an effect so Let's say if she murders

Wes yeah, it doesn't necessarily have an effect.

Yeah, but when they leave there They by them

not being in their correct space time and hanging

out outside of space time They never return doesn't

that fuck shit up. I Yeah, technically so like

really they can't indefinitely live there without

causing some problems unless there's like some

sort of time doppelganger. If they wanted to

say that, that's a decision, but they just never

answered the fundamental question that as a fan

of that series, you have, is do they stay together

and how do they make it work? That was the cliffhanger

of that show. Yeah. Yeah. That's the question

that they're kind of setting out to answer and

they don't fucking answer. Yep. And to my knowledge,

there aren't going to be any more time force

specific stories in the comics. Like I said,

my main takeaway from this is, is that they Kind

of sort of get an unresolved happy ending. And

I just love Alex's sister. Like she is awesome.

The design there, the characterization, all that.

So good. So good. All right. You know, again,

better ways, I think, to introduce her. I think

the storyline because of when they introduced

her was really hard to follow. And they really,

they weigh heavily on if... If she's from the

Hyperforce timeline, which I don't know much

about that series in that game, then this book

relies heavily on your knowledge, your time force

knowledge of the show and the knowledge of Hyperforce

to really make this satisfying. And I don't think

that's. I don't think that's a smart way to write

a book. Like there's ways of giving fan service

and nods to fans that are really invested, but

not leaving out those of us that may not have

been. Yeah. So, and then again though, I think

they copped down in the end because the answer

that we all, the thing that would, the, the thread

that's, you know, to borrow from, you know, when

we talked about Psycho's path. Yeah. That was

a question that was left unanswered. It was,

what happened to the Psycho Rangers? We get that.

The question outside of Time Force is, do Jin

and Wes find a way to make their relationship

work? And they don't actually do anything to

fucking answer it. Nope, they don't. So, let

down. Anyway. Huge, huge let down. Alright folks,

we're gonna take a quick break, come back with

the closing and the rating and all that good

stuff after this. Hello Geeks and Geekettes!

504 of the pull bag I have no idea what's coming

up next folks, but sins of the future Zero to

five. What are you gonna give it? You know what?

I'm gonna be generous and give it a two The artwork

is nice like it I think I think aesthetically

I think it's good I have a lot of story issues

with it I think there are moments that do serve

the fandom a little bit But I think ultimately

it just it fails to do what I think these self

-contained stories are designed to do and that

is. In hand let us revisit answer something that

the show didn't and enjoy living in that world

again and yeah you know I don't. We didn't even

really get time in that much time in Silver Hills

We didn't get that much time in the actual future.

So like we didn't even really get to live in

this that world much So yeah, it was all about

the time jumps is what it was. So, you know to

Yeah for me, I'll give it a two and a half I

I want to give it a three but I'll give it a

two and a half because I really dug like I already

said Saira and her character and I hope If there

is more Time Force stuff, like I already said,

I don't think there's going to be. I would like

to see more stories with her. I think the Black

Time Force Ranger being able to go in time travel,

that's a cool fucking idea. I had this little

tangent, but I've always had this idea for a

fan fiction of something happening and the Gold

Ranger. You know, whether that be Trey of Triforia

or somebody else, there's a new monster or something.

And he ends up having to take an experimental

time force morpher and combine that with his

golden power staff. And that kind of allows him

to become a little bit of what the black time

force ranger does. Yep. You know, I've always

thought that might be a cool concept. And so

this kind of does a little bit of that. But we

don't. Really get to see it and it's almost like

the black flash you know it's like almost like

i'm almost for the grim reaper which even like.

Which the not to spoil it but there is a death

ranger. Being used in new continuity so you know

that could be something but how did you feel

like you know i haven't really given you a lot

of time to talk about like. This was your, this

was kind of your series, like it kind of hit

you. So do you feel disappointed by this? I know

there's things you liked about it, but how did

you feel after you read this? After I read it,

I felt okay, but I still had that nagging question

in the back of my mind, like you've already talked

about about, well, how does that work? Do they

just stay there? How do they get food? How does

this happen? How does that happen? If time is

going on around them, you know, then... You know,

everybody's gonna be older everybody's gonna

be gone or they're gonna, you know be bumping

uglies and making babies forever in the in the

in the in the in the outpost one and by you know

32 75 they're gonna go back down to earth and

it's it's all this junk and there's this weird

robot and Is where robots girlfriend? Yeah is

Wes gonna come back like Steve Rogers did or

or they're gonna come back and in this hover

train that they somehow built and, you know,

they were three kids. No, it was two kids, not

three. Jules and Verne. Yes. Oh, boy. By the

way, he's so fucking proud of himself for that

name, like just the look on his face. He's like,

yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah, that's right. It

was her favorite author. It was the only, it

was the only logical choice. Right, right, right,

right. But yeah, no, I, when I first read it,

I got it and I understood it and I had a few

issues with it, but I didn't have an issue with

the ending because they were finally together,

even though it was outside of time. They finally

found a way to be together, even though technically

they're cheating. not on each other, but you

know, they're cheating time kind of thing. But

other than that, I mean, like I said, I like

the story. For once, I can't believe I'm actually

going to say this, I always have a problem with

time jumps in comics. Because normally the time

jumps I end up reading is they will get an artist

for each type, like, and as much as I love them.

All these artists that I want to mention, but

Livia Remendelli, Alex Melm, Andrew Griffith

from IDW's Transformers, when IDW would do Transformers

in the present, past, and future, each artist

would get a time period. So it's each of their

specific styles of art. So the art changes. So

for me, even though this is confusing as hell,

the art is one fluid thing throughout. So I didn't

have so much. a problem with the time jumps this

time but that's all this book is is time jumps

and and adventures and this and that and we do

meet some cool characters and like i've already

said sire is great and whatever but at the end

of the day overall i enjoyed it even though i

gave it a two and a half i still enjoy reading

the story because i like the characters Well,

let me ask you this, too, as a Time Force fan.

Do you feel disappointed that, like, we didn't

get any other, like, Time Force, like, they barely

had three lines in here? And that is also one

of my biggest criticisms of, like, the Time Force,

the show. I feel like they, the rest of them,

outside Jen and Wes, probably had the least character

development out of most series. Yeah. Um, and

so I, you know, if I kind of feel disappointed

that once again, they were kind of pushed to

the side and didn't, didn't sort of weren't used

at all in this, uh, you know, which I get it

that the thing is Jen and Wes, but I don't know.

Again, I, I just are, do you, did you find yourself

being disappointed by that at all or no? I mean,

because it was their story, not really, but I

do see what you're saying and where you're coming

from and I do agree with you. But it's a thing

of like, I'm looking at the characters from the

show now and we have, you know, we got Alex slash

Wes, Jen, Lucas, Katie, Tripp and Eric. I think

Katie was the only one mentioned by name. Yeah,

I think we got more of the owl then we did Any

city yeah, yeah circuit is not No, yeah, I think

I think circuit you got more Staged on then Than

anybody else on here. So, you know, it's it's

I don't know. I don't I don't want to belabor

it Did I ruin this for you? You said you had

a oh, no, okay This is the last time I'm probably

going to read the book because I haven't read

it since the first time I read it when it came

out. I enjoyed the story because it's one of

those things where it feels to me, and I know

we've mentioned every other major time travel

thing. This really feels to me like it's a weird

amalgam of everything we've already talked about,

plus adding in 87's Masters of the Universe,

because some of those street battles with Jen

and some of her shots, like I feel like she's

the evil in of this series, even though she's

not evil, but just watching her walk down the

street and stuff. And it's like, Oh my God. Yeah.

It's that whole, yeah, no, I, I still enjoyed

it. It was fun. It was confusing as all hell,

but it was fun. Yeah. So somehow it's not the

end of the world for me. Yeah, this is definitely

one of my least favorite of these one shots.

Yeah. You know, eventually we might get to the

one about the Phantom Ranger. That one was a

little also kind of. Confusing, but that's a

different time. Weren't you wanting that though?

You wanted something to do with I remember. Well,

yeah, it's on my list of it was on my list of

things that like I thought would be good. But

what their answer ultimately was was just a little.

Interesting and it was like, oh, you know all

these fan theories you have about its X, Y and

Z. Well, it's going to be none of those. And

then here's what it really is. And you're like,

oh, OK, that's not. Nearly as cool as I thought

it would have been but you know, but you know,

maybe we'll get to it but I think that I have

to go back and reread that because I just read

that for the first time a couple months ago,

but but I think that Suffered a little bit from

what this suffered from so, you know again not

Not the best not my favorite of these sort of

one shots. I think there are other ones that

do it better I think you know soul of the dragon

Oh yeah, Solar Dragon's great. It's total Tommy,

you know, jacking off, but it's good. It's a

fun story, introduces some new fun elements.

Again, Psycho's Path, go back and listen to that.

I absolutely love that. I think Psycho's Path

is the example going forward of what... What

you should expect and what you should try to

execute if you're gonna do one of these and I

don't know I you know I have to go back and watch

some more some Seasons that I'm less familiar

with maybe not every season needs one of these,

you know Yeah, no, I don't think everyone does

and I mean other than exploring the other side

of Lord Dracula Let's face it, folks, we all

know this from doing this comic coverage, Lord

Drakken is an alternate Tommy. I'm done with

Drakken. Let it go. I haven't caught up to that

yet. No, I know. I know. I'm bringing him back.

I'm just saying in general, he was fantastic

when he was rolled out. I think that whole Shattered

Grid was great. We talked about that. I think

we just need to work on a new baddie. I think

we've done Evil Tommy. It's gone. All right.

You know, we just we need to stop rolling out

some of these ultimate bad guys and bringing

them back. I mean, we did it. Let it sit. Yeah,

I mean, like I said, I need to catch up with

it. I haven't caught up with it yet. And I will

eventually like, you know, we're just at the

beginning of 2023 when this episode releases.

So I have a whole different... 2022 was a little

bit bumpy and we did things and we've done things

and whatever, but 2023 I'm probably gonna maybe

be switching some stuff up. I know Steve and

I are doing the new Star Trek Ongoings, the new

main Star Trek Ongoing with Cisco. Is that good?

We've probably recorded more since then but yes,

I recorded episode 498 we really did enjoy it

I'll have to go back and give you guys a list

on that one because I I saw that that was coming

out I was like, huh I needed some of the track

some of the Trek comics man have been kind of

hit or miss on on some of them and some of them

are very Theoretically in Canon and some of them

are yeah. Yeah That's how it is with with everything

but yeah we've we've gone on i think far far

enough so um you know all right thank you for
