About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Sean (ImOldSkoolz) kick off their coverage of the entire Fast Saga by diving into the 2001 original film. They discuss the movie's compelling storyline, memorable car culture elements, pacing, and impact, plus Michelle Rodriguez's role as Letty and how the franchise has evolved since its debut.

Hey, hey, hey, it's Chaos Queen here and you're

listening to the Geekcast Radio Network. Hey,

it's Mistress Carrie and you are listening to

Studio 2009. Hello everyone, it is I, TFJ and

Mike from the GeekCast Radio Network. You are

now listening to Studio 2009. And this is a preemptive

recording before the next few episodes of Studio

2009. It is currently June 2025 when I'm recording

this. You are going to be hearing episodes 141

through 143 over the next three days. or three

weeks. I don't know yet. It's going to be one

or the other. The interesting thing here about

Studio 2009, folks, since I've maniacally taken

over and done whatever the hell I want to with

this podcast is that I've been able to take it

daily. So from episode, I want to say when we

first started doing Colombo season one last year

in 2024, I just had this ambition to do a daily

podcast. Yes, we're not recording them daily,

but I'm releasing them daily as daily content.

Just to recap, folks, before we get into episode

141, which I will explain here in a moment what

that's gonna be and all that and everything else,

but in January we had... The end of Columbo season

one with a blueprint for murder in episode 119.

We did the firm. We did UHF and Uncle Buck as

a double feature in one episode. We did blank

check. We did attack the block. We did the anniversary.

Was it the anniversary of office space? No, this

is 2025. That was a year late. We were supposed

to do office space in 2024 because that would

have been the 25th anniversary, but we were late

on that and that's my fault. we had the gamer

origins with the orcasaurus and we then did the

sonic triple threat with sonic one two and three

that carried us through to march and then we

did two more gamer origins with reagent v and

the red knight so we got that going on So that's

very very cool and all of that and then in April

we had Colombo Season 2. So that's what's been

going on and I kind of took May off unexpectedly.

I had a bunch of health things come up and I

had to have a bunch of tests done and I had to

have a bunch of this done and a bunch of that

done and after living here in Indiana for three

years or so I'm finally in aqua therapy for my

physical therapy stuff. So there's that, but

there's a lot of other physical things going

on with my health that just haven't right now

currently as I'm recording this intro to episode

141. I currently cannot feel the ring and pinky

finger on my left hand, which is my good hand.

I have cerebral palsy for those that don't know.

If this is your first episode... Every episode

is somebody's first episode of a podcast. My

name is Michael TFG one Blanchard I have been

a podcaster for 17 years I am the co -creator

of the geek cast radio network along with Steve

Megatron here on geek cast radio .com and all

the podcasting clients you choose to use and

Here's the thing. I was born with cerebral palsy.

I was born with brain damage brain damage I didn't

truly understand the whole aspect of until I

had to have brain surgery in 2019. So yeah, apparently

now there's things going on that are now transferring

from my cerebral palsy side, which is my right

side, which I cannot use my right hand at all.

I can walk, I can do all that kind of stuff,

but I just don't have any physical use out of

my right hand. That is now transferring to my

left side. If my left hand goes bad, I'm screwed.

I can't do shit, so I'm doing the best I can.

I'm keeping a positive outlook and all this and

all that, and I'm doing everything the doctors

are telling me I'm supposed to do. I'm waiting

on tests currently to figure out what we can

do and what we're going to do and all that and

whatever else, but that's where this podcast

has been. Because originally, episode 141 to

150... 5 or 56 was supposed to have already been

out We were supposed to be almost episode 160

right now Because we were going to do May the

force be with you 2025 I've already recorded

a bunch of stuff for me the force to be with

you 2025 But May is already gone. We waited with

it late speeded past us since I've been sick.

So Here's what's happening now Currently what's

going on with the podcast we will be doing at

least the next like I said three days or three

weeks It just depends on how my hand behaves

But right now you are going to be getting episode

141 of studio 2009 right here only on the geocast

radio network This is the beginning of the fast

saga coverage my buddy Sean returns old schools

he's gonna come back and we're gonna go through

all 11 fast films we're gonna go through the

entirety of the fast saga in chronological story

order which means this is the way we're covering

these films the fast and the furious from 2001

too fast too furious from 2003 Fast and Furious,

which is the fourth film from 2009. Fast 5 from

2011. Fast and Furious 6 from 2013. The Fast

and the Furious, Tokyo Drift from 2006. So Tokyo

Drift canonically fits between Fast and Furious

6 and Furious 7. So Furious 7 from 2015 will

be after that. And then we got Fate of the Furious

from 2017, Hobbs and Shaw from 2019. We will

then take a break for the 150th episode of Studio

2009 where we introduce the next GCRN Origins

series. I wanted to launch two new origin series

this year in 2025. Let's see, was it two or one?

One, two? Technically, it was two, but I launched

one of them last year, at the end of last year,

the Gaming Origins, which you've heard multiple

episodes already on the podcast here. At the

end of 2024, middle of 2024, end of 2024 last

year, I wanted to launch two new Origins series,

Gaming and Television. We launched Gaming early

last year. We've got about seven or eight of

the episodes for the Gaming Origins, I think.

But I also wanted to launch television, but I

needed a way to conform the 30 questions to TV

and TV watching and TV watching habits. So I

enlisted my good Canadian friend, Jennifer Kaufman.

She is kit couch potato. She has been on the

podcast before. She's the one that was on the

children's television programming podcast episode

we did. So she will be. Uh, in episode 150 talking

about her origins in TV watching, origins in

TV watching follows the same format as all of

the other origin series that the GCRN has, from

comics to Transformers to Masters of the Universe

to video games to toy collecting to podcasting

to everything. It's 30 questions about whatever

the topic is, and it was a lot of fun getting

Jennifer's story, so very, very cool talking

to her. And Origins in TV watching is open to

anyone who is a podcaster, anyone who has done

podcasting in the past, and even people who have

never podcasted before. If you've watched television

in your lifetime and you have a story you want

to tell, reach out to me. I'm on Twitter, I'm

on Blue Sky, I'm on whatever. Or you can email

us feedback at geek cast radio .com Just put

in the subject line studio 2009 origins TV guest

spot and make your pitch So that'll be the debut

episode of origins in television on studio 2009

After that, I know we've got some of the Star

Wars episodes, stuff that Dave and I have been

recording, and all that. We did a Disturbance

in the Forest episode, and then we did Andor

Season 2. So that's what's coming up on the podcast.

But for now, enjoy Episode 141 of Studio 2009

here on the Geekcast Radio Network. I've been

TFG and Mike giving you this long -winded life

update and podcast update and... Update of the

down dates and the side dates and the upside

down dates and the whatever dates and Fast and

the furious 2001 the fast and the furious from

2001 Vin Diesel Paul Walker all that good stuff

Gotta go fast now on with the show. I live my

life a quarter mile at a time There is nothing

wrong with your podcast player. Do not attempt

to adjust the volume. Hello and welcome back

into our studio. You are now Inside Studio 2009,

only on the GeekCast Radio Network. I'm, of course,

TFC1Mike. Joining me once again is my old buddy,

Sean, aka OldSchools. Hey, Sean, how are you?

Good, man. What's going on? Oh, not much. We're

going back to our roots, man. Going back to our

roots. Next 11 episodes, oh boy. It's the fast

saga. Okay. So if people listen to the Ford versus

Ferrari episode, I think we gave our history

in that episode of the podcast. However, to remind

people, Sean and I met online in 2002 in something,

some weird Yahoo chat room that Yahoo doesn't

even have anymore because Yahoo is nothing but

a news website in this day and age. I think if

they even, I know they exist, but I don't know

what Capacity yahoo exists in now and Ended up

living with him for a couple years I forget how

long it was but at that point in time 2002 2004

I think it was somewhere around there we had

found obviously the fast films and Obviously

the fast and the furious came out in 2001 so

it was before we we were friends and everything

else, but it was over that and because Sean's

a big car nut, and there's nothing wrong with

that. I say that with love, but it's one of those

things where, oh, right, the fast saga. There

you go. And oh, my God, next year, I'm glad we're

not waiting on this until next year, but next

year actually is the 25th anniversary of the

first film. 2026 will be 25 years since. It's

been a long time that I don't think a lot of

people realize. It's been that long since the

original movie. Yeah, I haven't seen the original

up until preparing for this I haven't watched

the original movie in years Because every X number

of years they come out with the next the next

new one Whatever so also to get this out of the

way folks just to be clear. We are doing this

in story order We're not doing this because story

order is better. So 2001 Fast and Furious, 2003

too Fast and Furious, 2009 Fast and Furious,

2011 was Fast 5, 2013 was Fast and Furious 6,

and then we go back to 2006 for the Fast and

Furious Tokyo Drift because honestly, I was done,

in 2006 when that movie came out, I was like

done. After Too Fast, Too Furious in 2003, I

was like, oh, okay, cool, that's a nice way to

end the, it'll just be a little two film thing,

one, two punch, whatever. And then Tokyo Drift

came out in 2006, I'm like, what in the hell

is this? Like, I almost stopped watching these

things. And then we're gonna get to Furious 7

in 2015, The Fate of the Furious in 2017. We

are doing Hobbs and Shaw, which came out in 2019

and then F9 in 2021 and FX, uh, fast X in 2023.

Oh God, it's been two years since that movie

came out. Jeez. Oh, interesting. There are just

so many of them. Couple months ago, I decided,

you know what? I don't have anything to do. I'm

going to binge the whole series. And so I started

with one and I ended up. Making it through the

third installment of the movie and I was just

like, you know It's you can't say you seen one

you seen them all but the one thing I did notice

is as it progressed the stunts got crazier and

crazier to where they are almost Some of the

stunts they pulled they're just like and that's

impossible, you know, but that's for another

day Yeah, but in other words I wouldn't able

to do the whole series, but they are good. I

enjoyed every one of them by themselves. I couldn't

do it straight in a row. Well, that's what podcasting

is for, because we are going to do these kind

of sort of straight in a row. Not all at once,

but it is. You'll have 11 weeks of fast films

episodes, folks, but it's one of those things

where. Yeah, you these are not movies like the

first two I could see oh I'm gonna sit down in

an afternoon and I'm gonna watch The Fast and

the Furious or 2001 and then 2003 is too fast

too furious. That's fine. Two films is fine,

but 11 movies you can't I mean There's just I

Don't know it's that's what you call being committed.

Mm -hmm. Yeah, I mean I don't know how the production

of these next 11 or the next 10 after this episodes

are going to be, folks, but we are going to do

these in the order, like I said, and everything

else. But it's one of those things where it's

probably going to be a movie per day. And actually,

one of my thoughts was, oh, let's do two per

day. And then I'm like, no, slow down, Mike.

Just don't do that. Don't. I'm like, it's OK.

The podcast will be produced when they're produced,

kind of thing. So yeah, that's what's what's

going on for the next The next 11 episodes up

until it'll carry us through episode 151 of the

podcast All 11 movies and that's what's going

on there 2001. Oh boy Let's go for a little ride.

This is yours. But if you win, you get her too.

What the hell is that all about? A business deal

that went sour. Plus I made the mistake of sleeping

with his sister. The original film The Fast and

the Furious from 2001 was released June 22, 2001.

Rob Cohen was the director. The screenplay was

done by Gary Scott Thompson with Eric Bergquist

and David Ayer based on the story Racer X by

Ken Lee. I have never read the Racer X story.

I think it was just a short story thing. If I

remember correctly, I don't remember off the

top of my head. Neil H. Moritz is producing Vin

Diesel, Paul Walker, rest in peace. Michelle

Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Rick Youn, Chad

Lindberg, Johnny Strong, and Ted Levine are the

main... stars of the first film. The interesting

thing, and we'll get to this when we talk a little

bit more about the cast in a minute, but the

interesting thing to me is how many movies of

Chad Lindbergh's I had actually seen. Chad Lindbergh

is the kid that played Jesse in this. And I love

him as an actor because I thought, you know,

you look at certain characters in certain movies,

you're like, Especially Jesse in this first film

you're like, oh well, um, he's not gonna be in

any of the other movies cuz Yoink he dead Spoilers

folks and we are gonna spoil the hell out of

these movies. They're 25 plus years old So just

you know, it is what it is but it was so funny

to me like I'm just doing this for fun, but I

was I'm rewatching 2003 television series cold

case with Catherine Morris and Tom Barry and

a bunch of other people, but Chad Lindbergh,

like I said, who plays Jesse in this, he played...

No, they did not split it up. He played in an

episode called The House. He played a character

named Johnny. Johnny was one of the prisoners

in a prison break in that episode. I just looked

at like literally before we even sat down to

figure this out and get this this series done.

I literally just it's a season two or Yeah, second

season of cold case episode and I'm in the middle

of season two of cold case and I'm like Hey,

wait a minute. I reckon what's Jesse doing as

a prisoner on a television show? So it's funny

where certain actors pop up. All right, so the

basic for those that don't remember uh, which

most people remember and I guess I don't have

to read all of this, but I'll read some of it.

Fast and the Furious, 2001 action film directed

by Rob Cohen, as I mentioned. Oh, it was a Vibe

magazine article, RacerX. That's what it is by

Ken Lee. So it was a magazine article that started

this whole thing that got them to, to translate

that to this. Uh, the first - Exactly based off

really Vince, and there is an actual driver that

They were following his name was Rodriguez. That's

his last name. His first name. I can't pronounce

her. I forgot it. But he is who Toretto was based

off of like this guy knew this dude and that's

where this all inspired from was him knowing

these actual people in real life and pretty much

started telling their story. And that's how it

ends up in Vibe, I guess. Yeah, very cool, very

cool. But it's kind of based off of, well, it's

not kind of, it is based off a real story. Yeah,

so in the film, undercover cop Brian O 'Connor,

played by Walker, infiltrates a street racing

crew to investigate a series of hijackings and

finds himself developing a complex friendship

with the group's leader, Dominic Toretto, played

by Vin Diesel. Oh, man. Don't remember so we

have several questions as you all know for history

and film breakdown everything else One of the

questions is did you watch this in theaters?

I think I did but I don't remember 2001 was June

of 2001 where the hell was I in June of 2001

knowing you you probably did Person yeah, I was

Movies are not for me. I did not go to watch

movies in the in the showcase whatever you will

call them But you were that type of person. Yeah,

like you would make an evening of it. Just you

yourself and You keep on June of 2001 where the

hell was I I Know I wasn't in Mississippi anymore.

I don't think No, I was in Massachusetts still

Because was it March of 2001 May of 2001 I forget

and I can't remember where I was last year. So

it's kind of Well, I Repeat my life story over

and over that's what the thing that's the greatest

thing about podcasting is you can repeat your

you can repeat repeat Repeat yourself all the

time and still not remember or maybe remember.

Yeah, I'm just trying to keep it straight December

to make a media on me It was blank, bro. No,

stop it. Stop it. Knock it off. I wouldn't have

any information to give them because I forgot

everything and I never went and did anything.

And well, hell, you know, you, you stayed with

me and we would sit there and play need for speed

literally all day, all day long. That's right.

I think I saw this in theaters, but I have no

idea where it would have been because if I'm

remembering right in June of 2001 I was back

in Massachusetts for the first time since 1993

I say you did yeah, probably what I'm gonna call

and probably When was the last time we saw this

literally the last time I saw it was right before

like I haven't watched this first film I don't

want that's the funny thing about this saga as

much as I like it as much as I like this franchise

I don't go back to it very often to rewatch these

movies yeah, I didn't figure you'd be a huge

fan of the movies because You are not anything

of a car guy at all You know, I'd always get

a new car and I'd be like super stoked. And you're

like, eh, yeah, you want me to get you from point

A to B. And I'm like, are you kidding me? I just

made the purchase of my wife, man. This is so

cool. And you're like, eh, you know, the bus

doesn't need you to find. Well, I had a lot going

on back then. So yeah, but you getting into this

movie, like I, or maybe somebody else that was

kind of a shock. Well, the thing with this is

I mean, yeah, I'm not I Don't always show that

I'm a car guy. But my dad was a mechanic. He

is he's still a mechanic. He's about By this

I don't know if this will be released before

or after his birthday But this coming March March

7th will be my dad's 70th birthday. The dude's

been working since he was like 12 years old He

was born in 55. So it's one of those things where

I always knew my dad was a mechanic i always

knew he worked on me worked on like buses and

think like the motor coach is not school you

work on school buses too but it's one of those

things where. I always knew he was a mechanic

and as a kid i always loved cuz in the kid as

a kid in the eighties folks if you didn't love

car crash films there was something wrong with

you any kind of car crash film any kind of that

kind of. Quote -unquote disaster of the thing.

I always love that kind of stuff I just don't

always talk about it because I'm not like super

big into that world. It's one of those like Little

I don't want to say it's a hidden vice, but it's

one of those things where yeah, I like this stuff,

but Just like looking at it. I don't like you

know really Discussing kind of thing which obviously

talking about these films will change a little

bit, but sorry for the interruption folks This

is TFU and Mike and I wanted to let you all know

and I know this is in the middle of the show

and I'm interrupting everything but Number one.

This is not episode 141. This is episode 146.

I started editing this episode and I didn't put

in the actual Intro thing that I had pre -recorded.

I think I did that for the next episode. I could

be wrong I don't remember but anyway, this is

episode 146 and this is how studio 2009 is going

to shake out between episode 146 and episode

164 so 146 to 149 will be the fast and the furious

too fast to furious fast and furious from 2009

fast five and then Episode 150, as I mentioned

in this episode already, will be the Origins

in Television debut with my Canadian friend Jennifer

Kaufman. And then episode 151 will be Sean and

I doing Fast and Furious 6. We're dreading doing

this, but we will do episode 152 with the Fast

and Furious Tokyo Drift. Part 7 will be Furious

7. Part 8 will be The Fate of the Furious. And

then we will take a break from that because we

already pre -recorded this content here. It'll

be returning to 12 months of Star Wars with my

buddy Dave Draper where we talk about a disturbance

in the force And then we have four episodes for

season two of and or where we discussed Episodes

one through three four through six seven through

nine and then ten through twelve Sorry folks.

That's just how the podcast was produced And

as I mentioned, or maybe I didn't mention, I

forget if I mentioned it or not, my health issues

this year have been a hindrance to the podcast.

I've been trying to get this podcast produced

as best I can as fast as I can, but that's what's

going on. Episode 160 will be myself and Sean

discussing the 25th anniversary of Gone In 60

Seconds, which Literally as of this interruption.

We just mentioned or we are about to mention

that movie After that, I believe I'm doing a

30th anniversary of the film drop zone with somebody

with Wesley Snipes And a bunch of other people

in that movie the late great Malcolm. Jamal Warner

is in that movie I believe and Then Sean and

I will finish off the fast saga with Hobbs and

Shaw f9 the fast saga and then fast X So there's

that. That's what's going on. Now we're going

to get you back to The Fast and The Furious with

Old Schools and myself. Enjoy the show. This

is episode 146 of Studio 2009, only on the Geekcast

Radio Network. Enjoy. But no, like the last,

uh... I'm trying to think of the last good...

Car movie eyes. Okay outside of this franchise.

I'm trying to think. I want the right guy exactly

Yeah, which Spoiler folks you're gonna hear Sean

here for the next this and the next ten episodes

after this up to episode 151 and then in episode

160 he's gonna come back because this year is

the 25th anniversary of gone in 60 seconds Would

assume no the 2000 the Nicolas Cage version 25th.

Oh, yeah Yeah, the original version was 1969

I think You know that the one thing if you go

back through history and you look at some of

the top grossing films most of them involved

Car chase that's all what the 70s were about

was like the bullet. I mean that movie was famous

just for its chase scene and You know people

will literally after it's like going to a Rocky

movie and coming out and wanting to fight everybody

But they'll come out of the theaters whatever

and the first thing you want to do is go buy

a car just like what they saw in the movie and

so you have tons of replicas and you know for

me personally out of all the movies i've ever

seen my favorite favorite car that if i had tons

of money i would buy in every color that was

available whatever but it would be elinor from

gone in six seconds yeah it's something the movies

do to us you know but every movie that was a

top grocer pretty much except for the sad kickflicks

They all had a car casing in it that was phenomenal

in some way or another Absolutely So I just did

a quick look up and some quick math last year

It was 1974 when gone in 60 seconds or the original

film came out last year. It celebrated its 50th

anniversary and and This year is the 25th anniversary

the 2000 Nicolas Cage version, so Maybe we'll

do both films. I don't know though I never I

never I had never watched it either a buddy of

mine showed it to me out in California a number

of years ago when I was out in California Having

a weird stupid adventure that we shall not talk

about but it's one of those things and that no

No No, no, no, no. Best thing about going to

California in 2016, December of 2016, the best

thing about going to California then was seeing

my buddy Doug and his wife and having some good

old fashioned Mexican food at Tony's at the time.

I don't know if Tony's is still around out there

in San Diego, but yeah, the rest of that adventure.

And he went through an adventure like no other

And we'll leave it at that Yeah, you think my

adventures living with you in 2002 2003 more

crazy 2016 was nuts Yeah, so So yeah when I had

gone out there to visit Doug in this other situation

at the time He had shown me the 74 version. I'm

just like I'm sorry. I was what let's see 2016.

I was what 36 No, when held held was I? Yeah,

I was probably 36 or so at the time I think And

I don't know maybe I was too close -minded but

I've I'd always seen the Nicolas Cage 2000 version

and I watched the 74 version I'm like this is

not gone in 60 seconds. This is weird It is just

weird so Maybe they put a little spin on the

newer version. Yeah, which makes it a much better

version in my personal Going back to the Fast

and the Furious, oh man I forgot how well put

together this movie is It's just like from beginning

to end every little thing from the music to the

cinematography to The stunts of it all I forgot

how good this was and I say this all the time

about certain movies and things like that it

is because most storytelling plot points are

kind of kind of basic but It's basically like

I already said, you know Walker's character O

'Connor goes undercover to infiltrate the street

racing world and and He gets lost in that world

and ends up deciding not to be a cop anymore

by the end of it kind of thing Because he becomes

friends with Dom and all that but just the way

that the story Oops hit the microphone arm. Yeah,

that's gonna happen a lot folks Just the way

the story is laid out and told is just such a

fun fun movie and if you'd have told me 25 years

ago or almost 25 years ago that this movie would

have 10 other follow -ups to it I would have

said you were crazy because even now watching

this now I didn't necessarily need a second third

fourth fifth what watching this movie looking

at it now it's a Perfect, you know beginning

middle and end story I always say that there

are plenty of films out there that are just one

films that they're perfectly fine being one films

You don't need X number of sequels. I'm glad

this has X number of sequels But yeah What are

your thoughts on this movie because you as the

car nut between the two of us? You must be in

car heaven over there It's funny because in the

car world You have basically three groups, but

we'll focus on two which is You know, you had

the Detroit boys, you know, and that's everybody

who loved, you know Mopar Ford GM although but

then you had what we called the racers and I

was never or even wanted to have anything to

do with the whole racers and that's cars like

what Paul Walker drove, which was like the Mitsubishi

Eclipse. They drove the Maxima. All of them were

foreign cars, basically, not American built.

But that was a genre. I mean, that was a huge

movement at that time, just on its own. Somebody

could have made a movie just about being a ricer.

You know out of all that whole crew Dom was the

the American muscle type guy And he was the leader,

but then you take all his little followers and

they were all ricers, you know, they all drove

Imports and that's the only thing it was cool

watching them, but I was not a big fan of racer

cars so that's what makes this movie great is

because What is so much into those parts but

the story mine on this movie was excellent i

mean. I enjoyed the park truck more than anything

which was the forward lightning i would kill

to have that truck and in the movie. It was one

of the lowest pieces of transportation as in

like a delivery truck. Yeah, it's the most expensive

delivery truck I've ever seen But even that that's

my whole point it's not like it was just a regular

old truck no, this was a beefed up lightning

Ford F -150 and Even that was really cool. And

of course, you know, he says he only even went

there was because of the tuna sandwich But I

think we all know better than that Yeah, we all

know better than that But he's he's trying to

keep his cool. He's trying to keep his cover

intact obviously and I like how Practically up

until almost the end of the movie that he doesn't

break his cut like he the character of Brian

O 'Connor does the Does the heavy lifting of

keeping up both of those worlds very well and

I know it's acting folks and I know it's make

-believe but Undercover police officers have

to do that. They have to keep their cover intact

They have to like the the psychological aspects

behind all that I couldn't even Begin to go down

a list, but it's one of those things where seeing

it as a story in a fictional setting where an

actor is playing it, it's like, oh yeah, that's

got to be really freaking hard. This is where,

when we see Brian in the police settings and

stuff, we have my introduction to the actor known

as Tom Barry. Tom Barry plays Bilkins. He plays

the black FBI agent in this. So yeah, he plays

that character and Tom Berry it's funny because

again Outside of this this movie is where I first

saw him as an actor But yeah, so this movie was

the first time I had seen him. He had debuted

in film in 1995 he was a guard in the American

president. Yes that American president with Michael

Douglas and that betting and that Benning from

95 And then he was in Apollo 13. He was in Independence

Day. He was, oh, that's the other pilot. No,

I correct myself. This is the first time I remember

him, but this is not the first time I'd seen

him. The first time I probably saw him was in

a little live action animated film from 1996.

He played James R. Jordan, Sr. He played Michael's

father in Space Jam. So that's where I first

saw him but this movie is really where I first

noticed him and I kind of been following him

ever since because after This movie in the sequel

I would watch him in all of the episodes Let's

see. Here's all of them. He was in a hundred

and fifty six episodes of cold case from 2003

to 2010 as detective will Jeffries, so Because

I'm watching cold case in another marathon of

my own personal viewing here I get to watch him

as an actor every almost he's in almost every

episode He's in 156 out of however many they

actually produced of that show. I Didn't forget

that he was in here, but it was just one of those

things where I was like, oh, yeah I remember

his role in this so fun. Absolutely love that

guy but yeah and just the way that like I mentioned

earlier the way the Everything is put into the

pot You know, you've got your whole you got your

chicken. You got your vegetables you got all

this stuff in this stew of the story and the

characters and the music and and the effect the

way music is used in this movie is amazing You

know it won awards for the music just by itself

Oh yeah, absolutely it did. 100%. Actually, I

went mind blank on it, but he went away to jail

for a while. He was with Murder Inc. BT? No,

no, no. He was... Ja Rule? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

Ja Rule. Yep. Yeah, he won an award for that

song in this movie. Mean the movie just won all

kinds of awards left and right, you know, obviously

They were not the big Grammys or anything like

that. I don't know what it won there But I'm

talking about all these around the world film

festival It brought home more trophies than just

about any other movie that came out that year

it also grossed more than any movie that came

out that year and Roger Ebert didn't even like

the movie. He gave it bad reviews. I don't want

to speak ill of the dead, but Roger's taste in

movies is pinky in the air most of the time.

He never always got everything right anyway,

but I didn't care if he said it was a great movie

or a bad movie. It had no bearing on what I wanted

to watch. I don't care if he said this movie

was horrible. I'd be the first one in mind. So

yeah Yeah, I don't watch paint. Yeah, I never

paid too much attention to the movie critics

Then or now I like I don't even pay attention

to him now because we're criticizing it ourselves,

but it's one of those things where Don't know

like I like watching Siskel and Ebert at the

time I liked watching them for their differing

Opinions to see which ones they were actually

going to not agree on which was good or bad kind

of thing It's like watching that episode of the

odd couple. Yep, pretty much. Yeah Alright, so

the awards it won three Or five six. Yeah one

like about 11 awards most of the awards that

it won or Taurus Awards, I forget what the Taurus

World Stunt Awards, okay. Yeah, it won for best

driving, best work with a vehicle, best stunt

by stunt woman. Best female stunt. Yep, that's

what I said, best stunt by stunt woman, best

stunt by stunt man, and then best stunt coordinator

and second unit director feature film. The other

awards, it won best on -screen team for Walker

and Diesel for the MTV Movie Awards at the time.

It won Hollywood Breakthrough Award for Breakthrough

Male Performance for Paul Walker, Best Film Music

Award for BMI, for BT, for Score, and then put

it on me for Ja Rule at the ASCAP Awards. What

the hell are the ASCAPs? It's like what you said.

This movie is like a pot of chicken soup. I mean,

it has every element. It really, really does.

And as you're going off naming all these awards,

it's fun. I don't know of many other movies that

won in so many different categories. Talking

about one movie, not a whole series, just one

movie. Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty. Like

we could probably do a whole, if I did enough

research, I'm sure I could find at least a list

of 20 different films. Probably one, huh? You

just want to prove me wrong. No, yeah. Just saying

oh, you know better than that I'm just saying

that I think that I'm not saying you're wrong

but the fact that this again in 2001 I did not

expect Ten more films after this No. In 2001,

we were like, oh, cool, a cool action movie or

whatever kind of thing, because that's what it

is. It's a cool action movie that has a good,

yet very complicated storyline because of how

Brian's character is having to tow that line

between police officer, basically cop and criminal,

and he eventually turns criminal. I was happy

with You know the movie that came out after I

was like, oh this is a treat But when we hit

Tokyo drift, I thought oh, yeah, that's the end

of the series You can't come back from that Luckily

that's why Thankfully we are at the point where

this movie has 11 entries and as I already said

Thankfully, that's why we are going to be doing

these in story order because the story of Tokyo

drift They found a way to tie it in and make

it work. I don't know how even though okay, so

Khan At the at the at the end of six When when

they're in because he because I think him and

Giselle or whatever her name I forget what her

name is off top right? Is his little little girl,

but not little girl, but you know what I mean

And yeah, they go like at the end of well, yeah,

that's the thing at the end of six You the Tokyo

drift came that way before that right it did

but the way that they've tied the story elements

of Tokyo drift into the franchise it fits between

six and seven because the only thing that Tokyo

drift has Regards to the rest of the franchise

is that Dom shows up in them in at the end? That's

the only way it ties in because you're absolutely

right They all know each other through Dom, but

yeah They weren't in the movie. Nobody was from

the original cast I mean we're talking about

little bow wow and I mean, where did this come

from? It's so far out left field that it threw

me off From the series. I didn't want to watch

it anymore. I Was not impressed with with that

movie at all Yeah, now I love the cars in it.

I love the cars in that movie, but just And the

girl he was really pretty But other than that,

nah. Yeah, the only, like, outside of Dom showing

up at the end, the only cast member that is in

Tokyo Drift that has any other connection is

Han, is Song Kang as Han. Which is why that part

of the thing is how it's connected is that I

think, if I remember correctly, at the end of

6, He and Giselle are on the bike and he goes,

where do you want to go? And she goes, Tokyo.

So that's the only way it ties in because that

way. Right. I understand that it all does tie,

but you know, I guess for me it ties way after

the fight. Yeah, it does. That's the thing. They

had to wait until the story point. Another director

or something. Yeah. Cause it was just so far

out of realm that it had to been done by a different

director, producer, and all that. Cause it was

not anything like the series. So the series,

as far as directors go, is that the first film

was Rob Cohen. That's who directed the first

one. John Singleton directed Too Fast Too Furious.

And then Justin Lin directed Tokyo Drift, Fast

Four, Fast Five, and Fast Six. And then James

Wan directed Seven, F. Gary Gray directed Fate

of the Furious, and then Justin Lin came back

for F9, and then Louis Leterrier did Fast X.

So basically, Justin Lin is the linchpin between

Tokyo Drift and Fast No Furious 6. you're right

absolutely if you look at these in release order

it makes no sense and you are like literally

like i said a little while ago at the end of

the second movie i was like okay that's a nice

little two movie thing whatever and by the time

we got to 2006 in tokyo drift and i'm just like

i don't know about this and uh yeah uh had to

wait until you know I don't even remember. I

know I saw Tokyo Drift. I know I didn't see it

in theater, and we'll talk about this when we

actually talk about the movie itself, but I don't

remember if I saw it in theaters or not, but

I know I saw it, but I barely remember it. Like,

honestly, the only thing, two things I remember

is Han being in it and Vin at the end. I remember

nothing about the Sean character that's in that,

because I think his name is Sean, I think. Yeah

it is but you're right i don't even know how

he fits in i don't think he does the only connection

according to the script. What is little bow wow

and his two little nerdy buddies that were building

the car yeah. They knew dom and so it's like

some part of the movie there like you know. Dom

telling Dom sent you whatever it was that they

said you knew right then That okay. So these

three people are friends with Dom somehow some

way but Sean wasn't No Sean wasn't and we'll

and we'll get there we will definitely get there

what you think of the cast overall for the roles

that they play in the first film I Actually liked

all of them with the exception of the dude with

the beard. He was like kind of the bad boy, you

know, that didn't get along with Connor. I didn't

like him for some reason, but he did an absolutely

great job of vacuum because he portrayed exactly

what I felt. Which, you know, I'm sure they're

good friends in real life, but during the time

of that movie, I thought this dude's a real asshole.

You're talking about Vince, right? Yeah, Ben,

yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah fry, baby I mean just

yeah list the whole nine yards and but I you

know did a great acting job so as far as an actor

and then he was awesome, but Didn't like him

during the film it all yeah so Vince's played

by Matt Schultz and Why'd you bring the buster

here cuz the buster kept me out of handcuffs?

He didn't just run back to the fort the buster

brought me back Matt Schultz shows up in more

movies that I've seen than a lot of other Again,

this is one of those movies where you're kind

of introduced to certain actors and he was one

of the this even though I don't remember him

in this but his debut was as crease in blade

in 98. I didn't realize he was in the blade movies.

He was in blade one and two. I didn't know that

conceived to me. I felt like that was the first

time I ever seen him. That's same here because

I don't remember crease from blade. I don't remember.

And I saw a blade in theaters in 98 and I don't

remember the character blade movies, but I don't

remember him in there. Yeah. He was crease in

the first one. He was Chupa in the second one.

Uh, he was not in the third blade movie. Uh,

he was also in, uh, boys and girls with, uh,

uh, uh, freddy prince jr. Claire ferlani and

jason biggs from 2000. And then this, like I

said, as Vince, uh, he would play Vince, I think

twice. Yes. Plays Vince in this and then in fast

five. But the other place. Remember him in any

other fast and furious movie. Yeah, he was in

fast five because remember in fast five Uh, we

find out that vince has gone off and he's gotten

married He's gotten he's got a girlfriend and

kid and whatever somewhere in rio and they meet

up with him. Yeah Yeah, yeah, he goes to warn

them because it's a trap because hop shows up

and whatever So he was yeah, he's in the first

one here. He's in that now Yeah, yep. He was

in the second the fifth one Other movies he's

been in that I remember that I absolutely love.

Uh, he was in the transporter in 2002. That was

the Jason Statham film. And then in 2004, which

was just its 20th anniversary last year, probably

one of the only. Trying to think. Are there others?

No. Yeah. I can safely say. Torque from 2004

is probably the only motorcycle movie that I

absolutely love and he played the villain in

that so think of that actor think of that person

who plays Vince and then take his look and everything

and He turns into a super badass biker in torque.

It's like, oh my god. Love that, dude And he's

been to a few TV shows Things like that. He was

in an episode of Pacific who ever watched or

so. Oh torque is good Torque is Speaking We might

be getting a little ahead of ourselves. But so

put yourself back at watching fast and furious

one Could you have imagined Where this film has

taken us but mainly the star power that is incorporated

in oh, yeah, oh Some of the stars that have played

these roles. I mean it's incredible just by that

list of people who have joined this series, I

mean it's it's almost Mouth -dropping jaw -dropping.

I mean There are some powerful stars in these

movies. And just think, it was all from a movie

about cars and drag racing. You know, another

interesting fact about this movie was, is they

did the movie in Los Angeles because back then

in that time, there wasn't really such a thing

as, in other words, the police force sucked out

there. They wanted to shoot in New York or Chicago,

but they would never be able to get anything

done because of the police departments in both

states. They wouldn't be able to do the film,

but because of LA and the fact that their police

department was so under par, that's why they

choose to do that movie out there in LA. I thought

that was interesting as hell. Yeah. Because the

original story was not about street racers in

LA. Yeah. According to what I read. Yeah. You

know, the movie just, that's what you call one

of these things that it was a good little movie

that spanned it into a major action blockbusting

film that your grandmother wanted to go see.

Yeah The different audiences that this thing

attracted is incredible That's one thing you

have to admire about the movie, you know Where

it started and where it went to I don't know

of any other success story like that I don't

even know of another movie that put out that

many. The only thing I can compare it to is the

font And the thing with bond is that bond is,

let's see, 20, 25. Bond is 50, 62 to 22 is 50,

I think. Maybe 60. Yeah, I'm trying to do math

in my head and math in my head is never good,

folks. You're right. No, I'm 56 57 somewhere

in there So that's back in 68 you had you know

the fact of what six more years To it. I'm on

franchise is 63 years old this year. Yeah But

yeah, no like the The cool thing about the bond

franchise and comparing this to that is that

This franchise that they kind of started, like

I said, at the end of the second film, you could

have just washed your hands and been done with

it. Say what you will about Tokyo Drift, but

they didn't have to come back in 2009 to do Fast

and Furious, but they did. And that's when they

introduced Justin Lin as the director for several

of the movies and amazing vision. They tied it

all together between Fast and Furious 4, 5, 6,

and then obviously 7, 8, 9, 10. And it just became

this. Whereas Bond, if you look at each actor

that portrayed him, each actor's run is its own

story. Yes, it is still the character of James

Bond. Right. But it's not. Oops. Hit the microphone

again. That's going to happen, folks. It's new.

It's not going to always be super like Timothy

Dolphin was supposed to have more than just the

two films. He had the Living Daylights and License

to Kill. And then after License to Kill, In 89,

it disappeared until 95 and Brosnan came back

and Brosnan came in and did it finally with Goldeneye.

Oh my god, Goldeneye is 30 years old this year.

95, baby, 95. I remember walking home from Showcase

Cinemas in November of 1995. I remember that

like it was freaking y 'all man. You have no

idea that was so good but the funny thing about

fast and the furious is this first film is and

I kind of like looking at this stuff because

it's like my wonder but we can never see it without

seeing who actually got the roles so Walker signed

on immediately before he signed on here are several

people that turned the roll down. Eminem offered

the roll. Eminem, but he turned it down because

he was working on 8 Mile. Mark Wahlberg and Christian

Bale were also considered. Can you imagine Mark

Wahlberg? No. That's crazy. No, I cannot imagine,

not considering what he did in the Transformers

live action movies, I cannot imagine Mark Wahlberg

in a Fast and the Furious film. Not as the O

'Connor character. The studio originally told

producers that they would green light the film

if they could get Timothy Oliphant to play the

role of Dominic Toretto. No. I like Timothy Oliphant.

I do he's a great actor justifies a great TV

show. He's been in some great movies, but No,

and the crazy thing about him is that the reason

why Let's see, what's the reason why? He did

so he declined the role. He simply said that

he turned down the role as he thought the film

would be stupid Dude, you just got off of playing

Castlebeck's Minion in Gone in 60 Seconds. So

what's the difference between Gone in 60 Seconds

and Fast and the Furious? Okay, outside of one

is an auto theft movie versus an auto racing

movie. There's no like, if we really wanted to

be like, like, and we're not Sean and I are not

like this, folks. But if we really, oh my god,

these movies are so stupid. They're just popcorn

movies, blah, blah, blah, blah. Oh my god, Timothy

Olyphant, you idiot, but thankfully, you know,

that didn't happen as far as him being in these.

I don't think anybody else could have played

the role, to be honest with you. No. They could

have, but it wouldn't have been as long as the

series. No, no. If you got any other actor besides

Paul Walker and any other actor besides Vin Diesel

to play O 'Connor and Toretto, there's no way.

There's no way that we would be looking at this

movie now in 2025 as, Oh my God, this is a, this

is a single movie that happened 24, 25 years

ago. Like it would not have had the franchise.

It would not have become the franchise that it

is. And it's all because of Paul and then because

then just kept it going. I mean, he really did

driving force. I have never seen another film

franchise where one actor. From the beginning

literally is kind of sort of on the acting side

of everything in the story point side of everything

I mean, yes, there are writers and there are

you know things that like that and whatever else

and the first film was like I mentioned The story

was done by Gary Scott Thompson the screenplay

was done by him as I mentioned earlier Eric Bird

request and David Eyre and the funny thing about

Gary Scott Thompson is after this movie in 2001

I actually just got the blu -ray set of this

but He would go on to create the 2003 to 2008

television series Las Vegas starring Josh Duhamel

and James Kahn You remember Vegas Las Vegas,

you know, I didn't watch a lot of TV shows Yeah,

I was always more of a movie guy. Yeah until

recently like I told you Broadcast that yeah,

I recently for took in Yellowstone. Yep, and

you know kind of like you were talking about

how You didn't recognize him in that role blah

blah blah it's funny because in Yellowstone this

is off topic, but I know what you're talking

about because You know, I'm introduced to a character

called rip and had no idea that that's the same

cat that played the villain in bad boys I Had

no clue so I know exactly what you're talking

about. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely Yeah, my memory

is not that good. But when I put the two together,

I was just mind -boggled kind of like You know

galaxy Galaxy quest no, no, no, no the You know

with oh God just mine went blank You know that

the Marvel movie Oh Guardians of the Galaxy.

Yes like in there That one guy who led the bad

crew I didn't know he was rowdy from days of

thunder. Michael Rooker. Yeah. Took me a while

to figure out. So you bring up an interesting

point when you talked about, you know, black

guy in the movie. I mean, that happens. It's

just incredible when it does. So I know exactly

what you're talking about. Like our minds have

seen them before, but just don't make the connect.

Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, he was he was rowdy and

in days under he was He was the Z Brandy's fun

he was Brandy's father in mall rats because he

was in mall rats with Kevin Smith on them. Yeah

I just know that off the top because Michael

Rooker is just one of those characters actors

that you just You hear his voice you see his

face and you just instantly you may not remember

his name You may not remember everything he's

been in but because you're seeing him and hearing

him speak You're like, hey, it's it's that guy.

Yeah, that's a By the way, you said you're gonna

hit the microphone button several times just

in case I have four little ankle biters that

are my kids. I love them to death. They're four

little long -haired chihuahuas. You may hear

them occasionally, like, thinking I'm getting

robbed or something, so I will try to hit the

mute button as fast as I can, so I apologize

now if that happens. I should have told you to

stay in broadcast. That's alright, it's no big

deal. What do we remember most about this before

catching up with this specific film? Honestly,

as I watched it, I literally felt like I didn't

need to watch it because as soon as I saw the

opening credits, as soon as I saw like the first

part of the story, I was like, I remember everything

that happens in this movie now. For me, it's

always about the cause. You know, however, in

the first movie, I love the storyline. I love

the storyline of Brian and Mia. Uh, I thought

that was really cool on a side note. Um, I've

never been a big fan of Letty. Um, I don't know

what grows on you. I think not me even to the

newer one. She's just, I don't. Nothing appealing

about her, even though she might be an amazing

actress. But, you know, the storyline of that

movie itself was amazing. I mean, just all the

storylines that were going on inside that movie,

you had to be somewhat quick because if you weren't...

Man it took you off in every direction where

you could like for instance My girl would not

be able to watch that because she'd have no idea

what was going on, right? it just you got one

storyline of Toretto and Brian another storyline

of Toretto and Letty another one of Brian and

Mia and then the whole storyline of Him having

to repay with this busted up broken down Supra

that you know just things that my girl just don't

get and understand but for me it was amazing

because I know the values of such to these cars

you know like a Supra is just incredible to find

anymore nowadays back then yeah sure you can

get them but you can't find a Supra nowadays

unless you're gonna spend thirty fifty thousand

dollars so You know, things of that whole nature,

the car aspect of it. Whether you like cars,

or you like chase scenes, or you like action

scenes. Just everything about the cars I liked,

even though I wasn't a racer. The storyline,

because I'm such a huge car guy, I could follow

everything. And it kept my mind full. I didn't

doze off or... Lose, you know sometimes in a

movie. You're just like mm -hmm Not with this

one. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie.

It was great Yeah, Sam here. So the funny thing

about Michelle Rodriguez is I'm looking at her

filmography and Outside of these films outside

of the fast franchise she's been in other things

but the only other movie that I absolutely love

her in is 2003 SWAT With Samuel Jackson and and

Colin Farrell. That's the only other movie there.

He is a hard chick, but let's just say I was

watching one of those chick flicks and there

was a romantic and she was throwing in it. I'd

probably throw up. Can you imagine seeing her

trying to play a soft side? For me, it wouldn't

work. It just wouldn't work. We kind of. Yeah,

we kind of get the softer side later in the fast

films in certain points with her with her and

Dom specifically the the her and Dom scenes they

kind of But you know just an instance though

like put her in the notebook or something No,

it's not bomb the film. Yeah, it's not her style.

I know I'm being rough but Seriously, Mike. Could

you imagine? No, I don't. She couldn't pull it

off. And maybe that's because the, the, you know,

like some people get put in a movie and I forget

what it's called, but it's where they get where

it's just, everybody sees them for that role.

It's typecasting. It's, it's, it's one of those

things where. You can only see certain actor,

like, I can't see anybody else playing Marty

McFly other than Michael J. Fox. I know they

had a guy before, I know they had Eric Stoltz

before Marty came, before Michael came on, but

the film we saw, again, oh my God, 40 years ago,

1985, holy crap. The film we saw with Back to

the Future, the film everyone saw was Michael

J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown and

Marty McFly. I can't see any, yeah, absolutely.

And Michael and Christopher themselves have gone

on to play many other things. Christopher Lloyd

showing up as the Creeper in 1994's, when did,

1993, 1993's Dennis the Menace. Like, oh wow,

holy crap. Can't believe that. Uh, he re Christopher

Lloyd recently showed up in Is it star wars or

star trek? He's one of them um You know, so yeah,

but it's you know, you see yeah going back to

leti and and michelle is an actress like She

has a certain type of movie that works for her

That works for the way she acts and just the

roles that she's gotten and you know all the

success in the world to her We're not trying

to you know, badmouth her at all. We're not a

girly girl. Yeah Essentially, that's that's what

it is. That's what it all comes down to. She

is not a girly girl. No And I guess for me personally

That's just unattractive to me is not having

any girly girly Pods to you whatever but you

know, hey, it's just one little thing, you know,

maybe Millions of people loved her in that role.

Yeah in that man I'm all for it, but he personally,

you know you asked me what's the one thing or

whatever that I remember about the movie and

you know That comes up a lot in my mind. So Yeah,

but would it work with any other female planet?

Absolutely not. Well, no. Yeah, no. The only

time and we will get to this down the line. The

only time that she got matched for match is in

Furious 7. That fight with her and Rousey. Oh,

boy. Yeah, I get to that. Yeah, that was insane.

And that and that. That along with this like

I mentioned we're gonna get to it when we get

to the other films folks But like I mentioned

there are a few Romantic scenes with her and

Dom and fast five and things like that Between

those and between the fight scene in seven with

her and Rhonda Rouser is like, okay I like Letty

in this I remember about the the I smell skanks

skimper off bitches or whatever it is she says

in the in the in the scene there and like I'm

like, oh Okay, it's that kind of kill. Okay.

Sure. Okay, we can have that kind of character

but I think as a character especially with what

Supposedly happens to her in the fourth film

because they kind of leave that as a mystery

kind of thing You know, I think the character

of Letty Ortiz grows on you and I think her as

Michelle Rodriguez as an actress just plays that

role perfectly. You know, one of the things that

I would love to see is for our listeners, somehow

if they comment or write to you or whatever,

I would love to know two things. Do they agree

with me on Letty or, you know, Am I just completely

by myself on that? And then the other thing I'd

like to ask them is how many of our listeners

have literally watched all of these movies and

Honestly say they watched all these movies. I'm

curious to know yeah folks I'll write those questions

down in the in the episode post you guys can

comment on the website key cast radio comm and

let us know and If people let us know by the

time the second, third or fourth installment

comes out, I will bring it up in the scripts

in the future episodes and all that good stuff.

Maybe at the end, when we get to FastX, I'll

do it all as one giant thing. That's the thing

about these movies is that now that I'm looking

at it, I think I was in the theater for five,

six and seven. Think Seven's gonna be rough.

I think it's seven Where is it? Seven was 2015,

right? Remember Yeah, seven was 2015 So I'll

say this now to Preface this when we get to episode

147 folks furious seven that came out in 2015

was either right before, right as, or right after

my mom died at the time. And it's been 10 years.

This May it'll be 10 years since mom died. And

when they released, when Wiz Khalifa and Charlie

Puth released See You Again, because obviously

Paul had died by that time, unfortunately, and

it was dedicated to Paul Walker, Heard that song

and I'm just like oh Crap if there's not a damn

song that reminds me about my mom more than that

song did at the time and still does the I Still

can't listen to that song sometimes. Oh, I can

imagine. Oh, yeah Yeah, so Let's see fast five

was 2011. Yep. I remember being in theaters for

that 2013 was period faster Yeah, I think I was

in the theater for all three five six and seven

I know I didn't see eight in theaters and I know

I didn't see nine or ten in theaters because

by the time nine and ten were it well nine was

2021 and ten was was 2023 and I haven't left

the house most of the time since 2021 Well, yeah,

but in 2021 I had to move Because Karen had passed

so wasn't exactly up to go on to see a movie

in the theater Yeah, that that too that that's

Yeah, go brain issues, all right What who was

your favorite character out of this entire cast

in the first film he definitely Paul Walker.

Gavin. Got it out. Damn. Muse, will you take

these things off? I mean, shit, you put them

on so tight. I like realism. You never know who's

laughing, Brian. Wow, nice crib, Sergeant. A

lot nicer than that last place he confiscated.

Ain't it? You know, Eddie Fisher built this house

for Elizabeth Taylor in the 50s. I see even the

cops are Hollywood in Hollywood. Okay, here he

is fresh from Toronto's hot ride heaven. That

was an $80 ,000 vehicle officer Tell him what

happened. He knows what happened. Hey, you know

what? Why don't you send the bill to Johnny Trent

Brian kids giving me attitude? Doesn't speak

very well for police FBI relations Tanner. I

mean, come on. What is this? I walk in and I

guess all right. All right. All right Okay, let's

talk about it news. Why don't you make us four

iced cappuccinos, please? Come on regular decaf

Sarge Ah decaf Poor hijackings in two months

when we don't have anything DVD players and digital

cameras alone worth a million to which brings

the grand total to six million plus We're in

the political crosshairs now Brian That's why

you're undercover You want that detective badge

fast kid and you want to know something the FBI

can help if you come through for us What does

the truck driver say he gave us the same mo 300

civics precision driving? Same green neon glow

from under the chassis. Lab says the skid marks

came back the same. Mushimoto ZX tires. So we

know that it's somebody in the street racing

world. We don't make this case soon. The truckers

will take matters into their own hands. I tell

them we're close. You gonna make me a liar? Look,

what do we know? We all know this world revolves

around Toretto, right? I'm not saying that he's

necessarily the one that's popping these trucks,

but I can guarantee the both of you that he knows

who is. It's just a matter of time until I want

you on time find the magazine. We don't have

time Just give me something I can use yeah, I

agree Paul as as Brian was he tech You'd like

to look at Vince character as Dom being the central

character. He's not. Dom is not the center. Dom

is essentially the shadow character. He's the

base. I'm not saying he's a background actor.

I'm not saying it's a background role. I'm saying

the character of Dominic Toretto. You look at

that scene, uh, when Vince comes up is like,

Ooh, nobody likes to tune it here. Idiot and

the fight starts and Mia's like Dom. Will you

get out there instead? Like the whole time you

see Dom in that scene He's in the back getting

a beer getting whatever he's getting and whatever

else you don't really he doesn't really do any

acting up until He has to come out and stop the

fight and then that's where you really see him

and he kind of becomes the forefront but for

the most part up until that fight scene It's

not his movie. It's Brian's movie, right? But

when they do show him He does come out with a

dog. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah Absolutely any better.

Nope, you knew right then what the jig was about.

Oh, yeah, you know Yeah, absolutely 100 % Yeah,

so I agree Brian is great in this Don't know

how many actual special effects are in this because

it all seems there were a lot realistic stunts

like I Mean just look at the beginning or whenever

it was where you know, they they shot Basically

where he hit the nitrous button Yeah, okay all

went through the pipes and just you know, it

was a cool thing to see in the movies But that's

what I meant by as this series went on those

stunts like in the first movie you knew that

man They somebody did that like there wasn't

any CGI or nothing like that Like they were actually

performed but as you got down in the movies in

the series No, no. No, I mean just this specific

one. Like that's what I'm saying the first film

Don't know how much because nitrous is real.

It's they didn't make that up. Yeah I'm just

talking about the way it was transferred. Yeah

To the engine. Yeah, that was definitely special

for yeah You're right. There wasn't much. Yeah

How do we feel about the pacing of this one the

first film? For me personally It was Again every

aspect of it was perfect. I mean it was one of

No, I'm sorry. It wasn't one of it was my most

favorite movie at least for That kind of genre,

you know, you talk about comedy. Well, Friday's

definitely my favorite So but yeah, it's one

of those that in a hundred years I'm not gonna

forget anything about that movie. Whereas other

movies I will forget a lot of things about it

and be like, I don't remember that, but not this

movie. I can remember everything from beginning

to end. And I'm not able to do that a lot because

my mind wanders, but not in this film. That's

what was so great about it. It kept you tuned

in and it really wouldn't even let you go to

do a bathroom break. For me, that's how I felt.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. This was straight

through this film is only It's only a hundred

and six minutes, so it's just under two hours

and 120 minutes would be two hours 60 60 so hundred

and six just it's just it's barely at two hours

between the But we all failed math. But no, I

think that it really works and it's really paced

well and all that good stuff. I mean, I'm loving

doing the series when I continue this series.

So I am kind of itching to watch the next film

now, because that's one of our questions. And

the thing about the next film is Remember the

next film. I remember the next one more than

I remembered this one. I remembered this but

I like Wow. Yeah, that's too fast I can't say

the same thing Yeah, well, you know, yeah, it's

just one of those things where You add in that

that that purple convertible Roman gets in there

and I'm like, okay. Yep. I remember this movie

Again a ricer, but uh -huh. That's what they

all drove Yeah, absolutely, but you know when

you approach me to do this Number one there was

never a question of whatever I'm gonna do anything

you asked me to do But I was actually excited

about this. I thought you know what this is gonna

be a lot of fun And I'm not usually into things

like this, but you know I thought well for Mike.

Yeah, I'll do whatever like the Ford and Ferrari

thing. I wasn't really a huge fan of it. But,

you know, you asked me and I end up enjoying

that a lot, a lot more than I thought I would.

Yeah. When you approached me for these, I thought,

oh, wow, I actually got excited. And, you know,

like I told you, I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm in.

Yeah. So there was that's what this means to

me. Yeah. You know, If you came to me about another

movie, obviously I would do it but I wouldn't

be excited You know, you know what I'm saying?

Yeah Well, the thing is is you know, you go to

people like I go to people and say hey, I know

you like this type of thing Let's do that. Like

I like I I know, you know most of my longtime

friends I know what most of them enjoy and what

they don't enjoy and I'm not gonna ask you to

go because I wouldn't even cover this myself,

but we're not doing Nine hours of lord of the

rings. Thank you very much. No, thank you Yeah,

those movies are great in their own right but

um It's funny though. I've never seen any of

those movies, but if you ask me I would start

watching them. It might be interesting but Yeah,

I know what you're saying. I tell this story

all the time Again, going back to my dad, 1994,

when I was living in Kentucky, in Simpsonville,

of all places. Talk about a trap, folks. You

go to a town living in Simpsonville, there's

no Simpsons. Boo. Anyway. He would always bring

home whatever the old ladies or the old men would

leave on the charter buses the the motor coaches

because his the bus company he worked for at

the time they ran runs for the old people down

to to Gatlinburg and Did the gambling tour and

all the casinos down there and everything else?

So whatever they left on the bus was basically

fair game and he brought me home a copy of the

Fellowship of the ring I'm only telling this

story for Sean folks because every one in the

last 16 years of me podcasting I've told this

story many a times before but He brought me home

that book. I Tried reading it. I was 14 years

old at the time Tried reading it. I couldn't

get past the first chapter because in the first

chapter they talk they talk about Bilbo's birthday

and they say it's Bilbo's eleventy first birthday

Okay, my math brain your math brain it ain't

gonna get it and I had to actually look it up

in a dictionary to figure out what He was turning

a hundred and eleven years old Eleventy first

really like I know Tolkien has a language I know

J. R. R Tolkien has a language and it is what

it is But I'm my 14 year old brain was like no

don't and stop I am out of being lost wouldn't

even try to understand Well, I figured, you know,

I've always been a voracious reader, and I used

to read all kinds of books when I was a kid,

and I still read books now and everything else,

but it's like, if I couldn't understand it, why

am I going to continue on with this journey?

And I have never... I have no ill will. I cannot

say anything about the movies because I've never

seen them, so I'm not judging them. I'm sure

they're pretty damn good movies. I mean, they've

won a whole bunch of awards and they made all

kinds of money and there's a huge fan base for

them and that's all well and good. They are kind

of movie folks. So unless somebody else wants

to come on to Studio 2009 and do their own version,

do their own episodes, you're probably never

going to hear me talk about Lord of the Rings.

On this podcast because I have no interest. I

just didn't get into the Lord of the Rings or

the other one. I don't even know Yeah, those

those type of movies I just never got into but

I know there were Millions and millions of fans

of that just wasn't my cup of tea and that's

all not saying they're bad at all. But you know

just You know, I think that's one thing about

us is we've always like for all you fans of Mike

and in this podcast Just want to tell you a quick

little story I have always been a big car nut

and After Mike had moved out and moved into his

own apartment, you know, I was out doing my thing

and I Finally hit a point my life where I bought

my very first Corvette Mean it had been like

my dream purchase and I was so proud of myself

and and just I Was aside myself. I could see

myself because that's how excited I was and so

I get at home clean it up the very first time

and I jump in the car and I go rushing to my

buddy to take him to rocket And I wanted to surprise

Up into his apartment in this Badass that and

he just looked at me goes how am I supposed to

get into that thing? Shattered my excitement

levels and everything because He's like, how

do I get into this thing? I can't get into that.

Didn't even care the fact that I had just made

the purchase of a lifetime. It was my dream car.

I had accomplished all the goals I'd set out.

And he just like, eh, get in there. Well, I'm

sorry. 20 something years later. I'm sorry. But

like, seriously, like I can not do. Blow to the

ground. I even had to do But like no I like I

end up selling it for that exact reason Right,

but it's funny you go back and think about all

the time this net Yes, I'm thinking the one guy

I want to rush to show He would understand he's

like, okay good That's probably how I sounded

too. Uh, just shattered me in two seconds. I

mean, just like, uh, I was in my brand new car.

I was excited. We were going to go eat my favorite

food. And yes, I mean, talk about ruining a wet

dream, whatever you want to call it. That happened

in. He didn't even mean it like that. But right.

Yeah, it flew over his head. You know, you tell

jokes and just go over something That's what

this whole thing was. It just Went over Mike's

head so fast and so quick that I was just lost

Yeah, you might say it went over my head so fast.

So furious That's just how Mike is but he enjoys

All the things that I do but just in a different

different vision. Yeah, but still it Things like

that. You just always think of and things that

you know now it's funny as hell but back then

it was like wow and We went through a lot of

things like that just Days of playing the game

back and forth and I mean it was just we wake

up we meet we play guessing the need for speed

really All day, but it's just So when he asked

me to these movies, I was all gung -ho and exciting.

Oh, yeah, that's gonna be so much fun Zero to

five with half points. What would you give the

first film? I'd give it all the marks there is

for the party. So Yeah So fives all around for

the first one not even Yeah, I know and yes,

we could be a little bit more objective folks

and that but honestly screw that because At the

end of the day we had fun watching this movie.

Are there problems in here? Probably but they're

over lookable because the rest of the movie is

so good So yeah vibes all around we are gonna

send it to a quick ad break You can hear some

podcast ads and some other stuff We'll come back

to close the show and a bunch of other stuff

right after this Come on, Vince, hang in there!

Come on! If we don't get him to an ambulance

in ten minutes, he's dead. Hold this. Hold the

pressure just like that. I got it. Don't let

go. Hold his arm up. Vince! Yeah. Yeah, this

is Officer Brian O 'Connor. I'm off duty MAPD.

I need a life -fight rollout right away. My 20

is a Highway 86, mile marker 147. I got one trauma

victim about 24 years of age, six foot, maybe

200 pounds. He's got real deep laceration to

his right arm with arterial bleeding. And he's

got a shotgun wound close range to his left flank.

Yeah. Yeah, he's going into shock. Hello Geeks
