About this Episode

TFG1Mike and Steve Megatron celebrate the 35th anniversary of two 1989 comedy films. They discuss Weird Al's UHF, a satirical comedy about a daydreaming slacker who takes over a failing TV station, and John Hughes' Uncle Buck, featuring John Candy as the irresponsible uncle who steps in to care for his brother's three kids. Both hosts share their thoughts on the films' humor, performances, and lasting appeal.

Hey, this is David Kay and you're listening to

the GeekCast Radio Network. Hey, it's Mistress

Carrie and you are listening to Studio 2009.

There is nothing wrong with your podcast player.

Do not attempt to adjust the volume. Hello and

welcome back into our studio You are now inside

studio 2009 only a leaky cast radio network.

I'm of course to turn my and Joining me is Well,

he's returning I don't know where he's returning

from or to or whatever But it is none other than

Steve Megatron coming back to the podcast. Hello,

sir. Are you? Yo Yo, tonight we have another

double feature for you as we celebrate another

35th anniversary between two films first up is

weird Al in UHF and What a video it he is and

after that we see the awesomeness that is John

Candy the late John Candy as he's been gone 10

years 20 years when he died 90s Oh God, it's

30. That's right I've always have been 30 years

since John Candy, Jesus Christ. As he played

Uncle Buck in the, he was the try to roll Uncle

Buck in that film. So buckle up movie lovers

because it's gonna be one hell of a ride. First

of all, how the hell have you been? Yeah, I've

been. Okay, no, about wanting to be a Ben, but

okay, sure, fine. No, no, I've been around. Yeah.

Around the world and I oh, anyway, all right.

We are gonna get to UHF right after this What

they get is a man so desperate. He'll put anyone

on the air. It's Stanley. Yeah, George How would

you like your own TV show? Alright folks UHF

released I think this is Kind of silly, but I

get why they did it. You know, I know weird Al

doesn't like this but U .H .F., which was released

internationally as the Vidiet from U .H .F. U

.H .F. is fine as for a title. Like you don't

need the Vidiet. I don't know why. Whatever.

Yeah, I'm not aware of that. Well, it was international

broadcast. It was the studio wanted something

with to appeal to the international crowd. Apparently,

I don't know how. Someone being called a vitiate

would appeal to whomever, whatever. Directed

by Jay Levy. Written by Weird Al Yankovic and

Jay Levy. Starring Weird Al, Kevin McCarthy,

Michael Richards, Hey Kramer, David Bowie, Victoria

Jackson and more. The music was done by John

Dupree who would go on one year later to do the

1990 TMNT film music as he did all three of the

turtles films so very awesome Budget back then

was five million box office was 8 .1. So it made

money. It made its budget back and it made money

so yay, not much but Hey 8 .1 million is better

than nothing, right? Guess yeah, I mean maybe

for back then for like a B flick Mm -hmm. Yeah,

I Have never seen this as much as I have heard

a bunch of weird Al's music over the years and

I did watch and we will do an episode you and

I about his documentary he did the wheel the

Weird Al Yankovic story that came on a couple

of years ago women I'm trying to get that episode

done for a couple years now, but we'll get to

that but And then well this happened in 89 35

years ago I didn't really start listening to

or finding his music until I think after Amish

Paradise, maybe Maybe I heard Eat It before then,

but I had a couple of cousins who were big Weird

Al fans in the late 90s, which I was 16, 17,

18, and 19, and I was not listening to Weird

Al at that age for some reason. So I had never

seen this up until this current viewing. Yeah,

I saw this. I obviously didn't see it in theaters,

but I saw it on... I think it was after my cousin

introduced Weird Al to me in 97. I was introduced

to Weird Al in 97 when the Bad Hair Day CD came

out, probably maybe 98 even, because in 99 the

Running with Scissors CD came out. Yep. And then

I was kind of like all in. Yeah. Running with

Scissors was very, very popular then and now.

Yes. Absolutely. Oh God, it's been 25 years since

that release. Jesus. Yeah, 99. Yeah, an old 99.

So when was the last time you watched UHF? Well,

it was probably a year ago. Really? Maybe two.

Yeah. Okay. Just because periodically I get through

these like nostalgia spins and I decide to watch

something. Mm -hmm. So. But I mean I enjoyed

it for what it was I mean it's. It's not it's

not like my favorite movie. Right yeah no it's

just all kinds of weird. Yeah well I mean it

is Al so you know weird Al goes together but

but it did you know it was entertaining like

I said for what it was I. There was there was

definitely a lot of stuff that was almost akin

to a Saturday Night Live mixed with like. It

felt very much like a Saturday Night Live type

of movie. Yeah, that would have come out. Well,

yeah, so it's funny you mentioned that because

it's kind of loosely based off of It's an idea

from like mad TV kind of thing. There's very

mad TV Vibes to it, but I can see SNL too. Well,

I don't I don't think it went I don't think that

this came out when Mad TV was around. It came

out in 89. Yeah. I'm pretty sure Mad TV was like

90s. Yeah, it premiered in 95. Oh, wow. And what

was that? I don't know what the heck I was reading.

MaddTV was basically behind SNL in ratings. It

ran for 14 years, but it kind of was crap at

the 10 -year mark. It started turning to crap.

UHF came out definitely during the SNL era, which

oddly enough, Victoria Jackson was one of the

SNL alumni from 86 to 92. Yep Yep, yep Basic

plot of this is is that George Newman who is

a daydreaming slacker? Bounces between jobs and

he's put in charge of channel 62 a UHF television

station ultra high frequency Waves folks. That's

what UHF is that's why they had to retitle it

in the UK was because it probably didn't resonate

Yeah, probably because they they're not really

In They're not really in competition channel

62 is kind of like The early days of Fox and

like they're like there was nothing they had

some stuff they were running reruns of Beverly

Hillbillies and mr. Ed and things like that and

They got a package from the VHF competing station

channel 8 and he goes, weird -ass character George

goes over there and delivers it and they basically

just shun him and they're like and then there's

this some weird side section where his uncle

wins the deed to the station in a poker game

I guess that I don't know that just seems Strange

even for 1989 standards I mean not really. I

mean there was all kinds of weird crap happening

in and in all of the you know 80s type films,

I mean It I could see it have it happening in

something like even Beverly Hills cop You know

winning winning something in a poker game or

you know Just because the crazy stuff axle would

do I mean it's Yeah, but I don't It's definitely

comedy like I mean, it's not yeah. Yeah, it's

not normally realistic But if somebody's like

a serious gambler who knows what they would hand

out. That's true. That is very true So they go

head -to -head with VHF channel 8 and UHF channel

62 and they end up rivaling the the ratings between

the two of them channel 8 RG Fletcher Yeah, good

old R .J. Fletcher. Gotta love that guy. Not

really. I didn't even recognize David Bowie in

this. No. I know who he is. He's the best friend.

He's the...Bubble the Clown. But, like, I didn't

even recognize him in this. And I guess that's

because I'm so used to his... Oh, wait a minute.

This isn't the same guy, is it? No, you're thinking

the singer. Oh, yeah, I was thinking this. That's

why I had an owner. Yeah, it was not the wedding

singer, man. It's not the wedding singer. Hey

now. This was the guy's only only his second

film, though. Oh, wow. Very cool. Yeah. So he

was he was in a lot of other stuff that. I mean,

really, I I would not have seen. Heavyweights

was probably the first thing I would have seen

him in outside of UHF. And his backlog and then

like the cable guy Yep, and then cheaper by the

dozen and you know, he was in Transformers Revenge

of the Fallen He was a Smithsonian guard, that's

right he was I remember the guard I didn't know

it was him, but I remember the guard you might

know him from Lewis and Clark Let's see. Which

one Dr. Harry Liet Uh, wait, what episode was

that? It was in 95, I don't know. He was in all

kinds of stuff throughout the 90s and 2000s.

Yeah, no, absolutely. He does more voice stuff,

I think, now than anything else. He hasn't really

done movies since 2011, and he hasn't done television

since 2020. And then you get Fran Drescher, who's

annoying in everything she says. shoot me now

this movie it's a tone too she doesn't talk like

that but that's that was the voice thing they

were going for it's i don't even like i know

the the nanny character that she played on that

show was a higher pitched voice than what she

normally has this here where we see her now isn't

bored with probably her normal everyday voice

it's still freaking annoying Well, there was

an episode of the nanny where she actually talked

normal Yeah, and it sounded like this and she's

not no she sounded better. Oh Yeah, so like I

think these are just caricatures of herself that

she was playing and so it's not like Victoria

Jackson where her her voice is naturally higher

pitched Yeah, and then of course, you know, you

have Michael Richards spedowski the janitor the

goofy janitor Which he was likable on this Yeah,

absolutely. It's always funny to me when I see

him in other stuff because I'm so used to Kramer

from Seinfeld. It's the one thing from Seinfeld.

I'm always used to but I mean this guy had I

would have seen him a year later in in problem

child Because problem child came out in 1990

He was in he was with Michael Myers and so I

married an axe murder and he was the intensive

man in that Hasn't done much movie acting since

2019 but the television stuff Oh not much from

television stuff since 2014 either Kirstie the

TV show with The Lake Kirstie Alley was the last

thing he was in but obviously everybody knows

him from Seinfeld as Cosmo Kramer. And then kind

of just going down the list, like there's, you

know, there's Kevin McCarthy, Victoria Jackson,

and then kind of everybody else was kind of a

one -off. And then you had like a cameo from

Dr. Demento and Emo Phillips, who Demento was

kind of what got him started. And then Emo played

the weirdo in this, but he also has opened for

Weird Al in recent years. Cool. So at concerts,

but but yeah, that's that's kind of the gist

of that Yelp You have a favorite moment or a

favorite line out of this movie a fire hose Yeah,

I liked I liked the fire hose we're gonna get

the fire hose and then the kid gets in front

of it and gets blown away And then You know,

they they took the Newman name obviously from

like the Mad Magazine mascot Alfred E Newman.

Yeah But I liked all the different Shows on there

and then I guess they based Spadawski's role

off of Christopher Lloyd and taxi. Yep but But

yeah, so I mean I like that scene and then I

liked I like some of the goofy commercials that

were in it. I Mean they had they had different

like different shows that were kind of showing

up in there just kind of throwing stuff off with

just basically throwing stuff under the wall

and seeing what stuck. And then. I mean, they

really parodied a lot of different shows because

that was kind of the the premise of everything

was just kind of making fun of it all and doing

their own like overly over the top type thing.

And then they had, you know, the Rambo type character.

With with Weird Al playing it and that was funny

and then he's just like And they've got the fake

muscle and he's just blown away everything and

it's just random, you know cut in stuff Exploding

and then And then I liked the spatula city Spatula

city come on down. We're open all weekend long.

We sell spatulas and that's all yeah, I mean

there was there was some like I said, there were

so many funny parts straight throughout the movie

and then the fact that You know they they had

to be saved at the end. You know it kind of is

entertaining and then the alien yeah the alien

I could It wasn't bad the alien wasn't bad, but

like it was funny Yeah, it was funny, but I don't

know I'm kind of over that whole twist in movies

like I know this is an old movie It's 35 years

old I get it. It was a thing back then to do

that, but Don't know and then the other the other

thing was that I noticed look at watching this

I'm like Huh This feels a lot like something

that would come out Later in the 90s Which will

which will actually be 30 years old next year

in 2025 As long as you folks aren't hearing this

in 2025 depending but you probably will be hearing

this in 2025 Empire Records came out in 1995,

essentially the exact same thing but a music

store versus a different music store. The exact

same plot, different characters, different situations,

but 90s comedy versus 80s comedy stylings. Uh,

yeah. Uh. So when I was watching this, even though

I had never seen it before... I was like, oh,

okay, this is like the opening. I was like, okay,

this is cool. He's Indiana Jones. He's doing

the whole Raiders of the Lost Ark thing. He's

doing the giant boulder's gonna crush him and

the giant boulder crushed him. Kind of reminds

me when Judge Doom got rolled over with a steamroller

by a toon. Hey, that movie came out a year earlier

than this one. But no, I enjoyed this. I thought

it was funny. I thought it was interesting. It's

nice to see... I mean, I've seen Weird Al do

some acting. Like you said, he's mainly doing

voices now. He's been doing voices for the longest

time. He's done other stuff, too. Oh, yeah, yeah,

yeah. But yeah, I mean, he was in his own biopic

type film with... Yep. Yeah, the, you know, weird

DL Yankovic story. Yep. Which with Daniel Radcliffe

playing him which was interesting? Yeah, that

was funny And it's funny because the last the

last studio album al came out with was in 2014

Mm -hmm Which is sad Yes, this is very sad. We

need a new word album. Yes This is on, if you

guys have high definition, this is on 35th anniversary

4KL HD Ultra Blu -ray so you can get that because

I was actually gonna look into getting it for

this but I forgot to do so at the time so it

is on physical media it's on digital media everywhere

yeah UHF it was a fun interesting commentary

on the times I guess for Parity and for The the

movie industry as a whole really like how television

not movie you idiot The television industry was

back then and how you know we actually used to

have stations competing for each other competing

against each other and Doing all that kind of

stuff, and it's like oh really that happens now

not really, but a little days well and then You

know we have the the fact that they'll never

make another sequel to this which is good but.

It very very much hits like the modern. In a

sense like the internet humor. Like there's all

kinds of goofy videos and stuff in this that.

Wouldn't make sense today to make because a lot

of the stuff is like there's a modern version

of whatever it may be. Nowadays that's equally.

Goofy. Yeah. Putting it nicely. Yeah, absolutely.

Is this something you would recommend people

watch? I mean, I would say if you're a fan of

Weird Al and if you're a fan of like goofy 80s

comedies, then yes. If stuff that's kind of obscure

and goofy but without a point kind of goes over

your head and it's not something that you'd be

entertained by, maybe pass on it. But I mean,

I wouldn't. See it is like a movie that you just

watch over and over and over and you know Maybe

like a once or twice thing, but unless you're

a big fan of Weird Al but otherwise like I mean

It's not it's not bad. Very cool. Very cool.

Yeah, I would recommend people check this out

Probably give it a four out of five most likely

on the grade scale. What about you? I would probably

give it about that. Cool. Cool. Alright folks

fours all around we're gonna go to a quick break

here and here's some podcast ads and some other

stuff and we will come back with Uncle Buck with

John Candy and Macaulay Culkin right after this.

Hey Jared, I have this idea for a new show for

the network Yeah What is it? You know how I liked

the 1990s comic book series the new warriors

Yeah, yes. Yes. Mm -hmm. Yep, and you know how

at the long boss crusade. We're trying to get

the YouTube channel going Yes, yes also correct

Well, thanks! So, how about you and me do a livestream

show about the new warriors? You've never read

the books before and I have them, so that's a

great setup. We can give it a catchy name like,

Come Out to Play. Don't you think that's the

greatest idea? Sure, sure, sure, Delvin, that's

a great idea. Just one question. Yeah? Why do

you have me dangling off this ledge holding me

by only one arm? Oh, yeah. Well... You'll get

it soon, I hope. Come out to play. A new Warriors

podcast comes to you live on YouTube every second

And everything we do is off the cuff, different.

It's fun. It's tangential. And we do it live.

is a podcasting network of shows hosted by me,

The Uneven Flow. People have told me I like to

talk at them about a pretty wide range of topics,

comics, games, movies, books, whatever, and now

I'll be able to talk at you. Along with the weekly

show will be two bi -weekly shows. First we have

Fine You Pick, a show where one host picks a

movie, then both hosts have to watch it. Then

the next episode, the other host picks the movie.

Each show will have a breakdown of why it is

that movie was picked by that host, after which

will be a discussion about what it is we just

watched. Lastly, we have the show Top 3 Bottom

3. Similarly to Fine, you pick. One host picks

a television series, and the next week, the pick

alternates to the other host. Here, the episodes

of the show are chosen by the top three episodes

and the bottom three episodes, as rated on IMDb

.com. Yes, this is probably the worst way to

watch and review a television show, and yes,

that's the idea. On our shows, I'll detail out

how you can suggest things for us to watch. You

can reach out and talk with the hosts and maybe

even appear on an episode. I hope you'll join

me for this exciting new podcast adventure. I

swear we're going to make it more than eight

episodes. Buck Russell had always been the black

sheep of the family. I'm stunned that I'm related

to you. Until one night. Buck, we have a problem

with the kids. We're stuck for somebody to watch

them. Oh, please, not that. Can we trust him?

My brother, for God's sake. I won't let him get

into that Satan stuff or any of the new chicks.

I'll leave that for me. I'm kidding. Now... He's

making them breakfast. Cigar. No, thanks. Making

them lunch. And making them crazy. What did you

do? He's irresistible. I wanna ask you why I'm

so attracted to you. I wouldn't even guess at

that. He's unbelievable. I'm Anita Hogan. I'm

Buck Melanoma. Mollie Russell's wife. He's...

Would you just... let... John Candy. ...as Uncle

Buck. What does he like to drink? I've been leaving

the toilet seats up. Is that what the blue water

is? It's not good for him, huh? Uncle Buck. The

new comedy from John Hughes. You have much more

hair than you notice than my dad. How nice of

you to notice. I'm a kid. That's my job. Coming

soon to a theater near you. Alright folks, we

are back on this 35th anniversary train here

in episode 121 of Studio 2009. Uncle Buck, holy

crap. How's this movie 35 years old? Directed

by John Hughes, written by John Hughes, produced

by Hughes and Tom Jacobson, starring John Candy,

Amy Madigan. Along with Jean -Louisa Kelly, who

is basically Forrest's sister. She plays Tia

Russell in this, who is his niece, Buck Russell's

niece. Uh, Gabby Hoffman. Uh, Macaulay Culkin.

A year before he would become, uh... Home Alone.

Uh, yeah. Uh, Kevin. Uh... You've got Garen and

Brown Laurie met. Oh, that's right. Laurie Metcalf

is in this that's right. She's the wacky neighbor

Good old Roseanne's sister uncle auntie Don Jackie.

That's what it was from Roseanne But yeah, that's

that's who's in in this and this basically I

can do this with my eyes closed folks Buck Russell

is a He's an everyman, I guess. He's a guy who

is always not living up to what he should live

up to, I guess. At least back in those days.

He's borderline his character from planes, trains,

and automobiles. Yeah, he's very down to earth.

Almost slacker, lazy. It doesn't really love

up to his expectations. He's kind of annoying,

very unreliable. At least in planes, trains and

automobiles, he was more of like a salesman.

He wasn't necessarily that, but in this he was

kind of just bad at everything until he had the

opportunity to prove otherwise. Yep, exactly.

and that's what makes him a really great everyman

because everybody needs a comeback story and

oh boy does uncle buck have a comeback story

which includes a principal with a really large

mole on her face oh lord take this quarter go

downtown and have a wrap gnaw that thing off

your face i love this movie from beginning to

end I fucking love this movie I I don't even

have to like look up the trailer I don't even

like yeah I watched I watched all three of these

movies today that we're gonna be talking about

folks the two that are in this episode and then

the one that we'll talk about next time around

in episode 122 of the podcast I watched all three

of them back to back but this one and blank check

for next time Did not need to watch these because

I know them by heart. This is like My favorite

thing is when you really start to see him become

He's a parent to the two little kids, but when

he tries to get to know the older sister Tia

You really see him maturing more and you see

the character change in him, which is great,

which is nice, it's fun. I love the questions

seen with him and Culkin. This, this, this. Why

you ask so many questions? I don't know, why

don't you have enough answers? They don't actually

say that part, but... But no, this is just a

feel -good, laugh -out -loud... John Candy at

his best doing what he did and yeah absolutely

love it and they actually good sorry good I was

gonna say this this film in general like I I

genuinely like it for what it is like he's yeah

he kind of sucks at everything he has to kind

of grow up pretty quickly but it's but he had

the type of attitude that was needed for the

scenarios that he was in. Because the parents,

I don't feel like would have had the backbone

to do what he did. You know, like the whole chainsaw

thing, the, you know, the car, you know, using

the, you know, pretending he was firing off a

shot. Just, you know, I mean, just all of the

things, you know, throwing the boyfriend in the

trunk and, you know, chasing him down, you know.

The the principal being a jerk like just everything

in general like he he was kind of a necessary

evil. In the story it was apparently this is

a movie where. It's a John Hughes movie so it's

gonna start out like how some. Family comedy

John Hughes movies start out his day directorial

day his directorial debut was sixteen candles

in eighty four. He did the Breakfast Club. He

did Weird Science. He wrote and produced Pretty

in Pink, but he did not direct it. Wrote, directed,

and produced Ferris Bueller, which we will get

to in 2026, because that's its 40th anniversary.

She's having a baby. He directed a whole bunch

of really great stuff. since this I would say

that Ferris is the closest to this as far as

like the comedy goes because after this he wrote

and produced Home Alone which is very family

-friendly there's a little you know he did Home

Alone 2 did Dennis the Menace baby's day out

oh no he did he was only writer on mostly he's

more of a writer than a director so he wrote

I even forbid I say something wrong on a podcast

folks But yeah, no, I mean he just had his like

this is what I mean when I say nowadays there's

no writers that we know like there's no and nobody

but like between let's just say between Uncle

Buck in 89 and going back to, like I said, the

Breakfast Club. That's four years. In four years

he did several other things that we would have

already known him for, and especially, like you've

already mentioned, wrote and directed and produced

Planes, Chains, and Automobiles. If you didn't

recognize the John Hughes style after that film...

You must be living in a closet somewhere or something

or your head must be spinning and rotate or tornado

in Kansas or something Because the man just knew

how to write really good stuff He even got a

chance to write stuff for Robin Williams in 1997's

flubber I Don't remember any podcast that ever

covered flubber there are probably some out there,

but Well, and what you might not know is they

actually produced a TV series of this a flubber

No Well, and it and it's it kind of is its own

standalone but it basically takes place as if

His brother and sister -in -law were suddenly

killed in a car accident and he was given guardianship

of the three kids Okay And then he has to raise

the nieces and nephew with the maternal grandmother

Hmm It was bad enough it only went one season

It didn't have John Candy No, because that was

yeah and Yeah, yeah, no, I mean What else did

this guy do so I'm looking at it and I'm looking

at the guy in October of yeah, October 2016 Kevin

Meany was uncle buck in in this television series.

I'm looking at his Filmography and there's nothing

I recognize Space Ghost Coast to Coast from 94

Duckman, okay fine Oh, he's in an episode of

beyond belief factor fiction. I love that show

But yeah, no, I don't think I've ever seen this

person. It's kind of sad that they're both no

longer with us Well, then they rebooted the the

film series again Yeah, they tried to do a second

television adaptation in 2016 and it flopped

to you Uh -huh. I Saw that happening It aired

from June 14th to July 5th 2016 Mm -hmm see I

I would have so this says in this like I would

have seen the roles reversed So, in the 2016

series, they race swapped the character, which

is fine, but it was cast with Mike Epps as Uncle

Buck and James Leisure was his brother. James

Leisure I only know from NBC's Las Vegas with

Josh Duhamel. He was the valet he was the valet

guy in that TV series But I like that guy and

I think his style of acting would be more in

the Uncle Buck character than Mike Epps Well,

they were going for something different. It didn't

work, but they were trying You know here's hoping

it doesn't happen i don't i honestly wish that

they would just leave old stuff alone and just

create something new because you're not you're

not beholden to the baggage of the original like

they're allowed to do something different yes

you could very much base it off of something

don't call it the same thing and people will

be much more likely to accept it for what it

is and let it grow legs rather than trying to

compare it With the original, which it will always

pale in comparison to the original. So there's

no point in even doing that to yourself. Like,

don't set yourself up for failure, set yourself

up for the success by just starting fresh. And

uh, yeah folks, what is your favorite, some of

your favorite scenes or a favorite scene from

the movie? I like mostly when he's driving the

car. That car. The old Buick. Best shotgun in

the whole neighborhood. I like whenever he's

going around and it just goes. Everybody just

hits the floor. Yep, that's right. Ladies and

gentlemen, it is I, TFG, and Mike with a correction

on the car. It is not a Buick. John Candy drove

a 1977 Mercury Marquise Broham, or Braham, or

however you say it, in Uncle Buck. He affectionately

referred to it as the Beast during filming. So

it was not a Buick. It was a Mercury. Heaven

forbid we say anything wrong on our podcasts.

So there you go. There's the correction for the

car. Car corner yay car correction corner or

whatever the hell. I don't know I'm with the

show. That's right. That's right that in his

interactions with Macaulay Culkin or priceless

Plus both of them were in in Home Alone. So yeah,

both the kids though miles and Maisie both I

like the I liked both the kids in this What's

your name Tia? That character feels too close

to the Ferris sister character to me Like it's

essentially the same damn character and I know

John Hughes did both movies, but it if you look

at What's her name? Je je jeanie in In Ferris,

and you look at Tia here Messed up teenager wants

to go party this must go party wants to go be

with her boyfriend All that it's like I do, um,

I do love when he does go looking for her at

the party though. That's a great, great scene.

Well, she was also in, uh, she was in Yes Dear.

Yep. Yeah, I like her. I did not know. Yeah,

Jean -Louisa Callier. I know. I love Yes Dear.

That's like the last thing I'd seen her in was

that she was in Top Gun Maverick. Yeah. Which

I didn't know that either, but I still haven't

seen that. I haven't either. That's why I just

was looking at the the listing. Yeah Yeah But

yeah, no, I like I liked her in yester. I thought

she was funny in that Mm -hmm. Well, that was

just a really fun show in general. Yeah, absolutely

Yeah, cuz that's what's your name? That's what's

his name Mike Mike O'Malley or whatever? Yeah

guts. Yeah Oh no, it's not. Oh yeah, it is Michael

Malley. It's James Jimmy Hughes Jr. That's the

neighbor. The one that plays her husband is Gregory

Greg Warner. But yes, Michael Malley is the best

friend to those people in that series. Love that

show. Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm. Mm -hmm. She was also

in there was something else here that I noticed

Where's the character not the She was I was up

here in the movies She was what's her name in

one movie that one time Rowena Morgan she was

in mr. Holland's opus, which is 30 years old

next year with Richard Dreyfus about the music

teacher. So, I've seen her in a lot of stuff.

And these parents, folks, oh my god, these parents.

Like I was trying to say earlier, these parents

are just a plot device. They're not really here

to do anything other than to call him and have

him come in and babysit their kid. McCauley Culkin,

everybody knows McCauley Culkin. Home Alone,

all that stuff. Amy Madigan, I've loved her for

a long time. She's a great actress. She plays

Shanice in this, Buck's girlfriend. What else

was she? She was in... What else was she? Time

for dancing. I swear there was something else

that she was in that I... Like, hey, I know her,

that's that person. Uh, I can't see it off the

top of my head. Uh, let's see, anybody else in

the cat? Laurie Metcalfe I mentioned already

was Aunt Jackie and Roseanne. Uh, she's done

other things. That character though, Marcy Dahlgren

Frost, oh boy, I wouldn't want to run into that

character on the street. She crazy. Okay, see

Uncle Buck also is on It's always but next year

I wish it was being released this year to coincide

with the 35th anniversary, but next year it is

getting its own 4k UHD release on physical media.

So there is that I did all also want you though

the thing he has usually in the movie It's a

nail gun right or is it a dread to drill? That's

what it's a drill It's a drill with a drill bit

on it. Yeah. Guess what's out right now that

anyone can purchase at any time? They've finally

done it this year. Thanks to the 35th anniversary

of this movie. There is an Uncle Buck Funko Pop.

And he's got the drill. Now I don't know fun

goes ever gonna do this but if they did a pop

ride of him in that car as long as there was

a Smoke effect that you could attach to it kind

of like how transformers have blast effects.

That would be Amazing for a fun go pop ride There

buck Russell in his car. Oh man, that's crazy

No, but I love this movie. This is a movie that

like I will watch endlessly if I need to laugh

because he's just that damn funny. This movie

is just that damn good. Damn. So good. Anything

else we want to say about Uncle Buck before we

rate it, sir? I don't think so. Alright, what

are you gonna give it? Zero to five? I'll give

it a four. I gotta give it a five. I mean there's

there's not much in here that even looking back

on it even though I love the movie there isn't

anything like are there scenes that are not really

disturbing but are they kind of like cringy a

little bit for this day and age probably but

you got to look at it in the time it was made

35 years ago in the 80s this is what movies were

And that like, luckily that party scene kind

of goes quick. But, um... Eh, no, I'm still,

yeah, no, I can't, I can't take points off. There's

nothing here I can take points off for. Because

if it was a point of his character doesn't do

anything and he stays an asshole, or he stays,

you know, drunk, or he stays this or he stays

that and doesn't change and doesn't grow, but

that's not how this was written. kind of thing.

I could see taking points off for it, but yeah,

five's all right. Well, not five are on. Four

for you, five for me. I think that's going to

do it, folks. I don't think there's anything

else for this episode off the top of my head.

Really quickly, I will give you guys a brief

look into the future of the podcast, which you're

going to hear. in this episode and the next two

as well. The next year we've got some movies

that we're going to be talking about. Steve's

going to be back and we're going to be talking

about a couple of skydiving action films, Drop

Zone and Terminal Velocity. Terminal Velocity

has your favorite person in it, or one of your

favorite people in it. That's good old Tiger

Blood. Adonis DNA. That's right, Adonis DNA.

We've got Dave's gonna return and we're gonna

do the Shawshank Redemption which had its 30th

anniversary this year. We couldn't get that in

in time for the end of the year. And then Dave

and I are gonna return to the Adventures of Colombo

with Colombo series. So we're gonna do episodes

for season two for Colombo. Also next year, this

year, whenever you find people listening to this,

Steve and I are gonna do a What is it? 15th?

Is it the 15th anniversary? No, wait, no, 2000...

No, 20th! Holy shit, I'm getting old, dude. 20th

anniversary for the Dark Knight trilogy, Batman

Begins, was 2005. That's crazy. I know, right?

Seems like just yesterday we did those movie

we can review episodes about that franchise.

But yeah, we're going to cover all three of those

movies, the Dark Knight trilogy. Considering

we have already done Burton's Batman and Schumacher's

Batman on this podcast a few years ago, I will

relink those episodes at some point, folks. But

yes, we're going to do the Dark Knight trilogy,

celebrating the 20th anniversary of Batman Begins.

Yeah, very, very, very crazy. So that's what's
