STUDIO 2009
Ahsoka Season 1 Episodes 1-4 Review

About this Episode
Hey, this is Josh Keaton and you are listening
to the Geekcast Radio Network. No, that's your
job. Did you hear that? Yes, I heard it now.
I heard it this time. Wow, that's hilarious.
It's really quiet, but I brought it out here,
plugged it into the vacuum. You plugged it into
the vacuum? Apparently, it's the only extension
cord in the house. It's sitting on the table
next to me. It's got like a really short cord.
Yeah, well, toasters have always had a short
cord. That way, you can't get electrocuted by
them. I suppose. Alright, let me smack myself
here. Ow. Ow. I hire someone to do that, but...
I don't know, I just do it myself. It's much
easier. And I know the... Yeah, okay. We are
no Jedi. I started hearing whispers of Thrawn's
return as heir to the Empire. What happens when
we find Thrawn? Power. Such as you've never dreamed.
I've spent most of my life fighting a war. That's
why I'm trying to convince you to help me prevent
another one. You and I both know who could help
you with this She's still just as stubborn as
ever I Bet you were master found you difficult
at times Anakin never got to finish my training
I walked away from him just like I walked away
from Sabine you never made things easy for me
Master as a Jedi Sometimes you have to make the
decision no one else can. There is nothing wrong
with your podcast player. Do not attempt to adjust
the volume. Hello, and welcome back into our
studio. You are now Inside Studio 2009. I am,
of course, TF2 and Mike, and joining me is David
Devalls, Toys and Collectibles, as well as Toycast's
David Draper. Hello, sir. How are you? Hello.
I'm well. How are you? That's good. I am well
as well. And we are here on Inside Studio 2009
to talk about Season one episodes one through
four of Disney Plus's Star Wars Ahsoka Yay, yeah
So yeah just the facts for Ahsoka It's set after
the fall of the Empire Ahsoka follows former
Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an
emerging threat as a to a vulnerable galaxy,
so Everybody was so curious when she showed up
in Mando season two. Oh, this is Ahsoka after
because Mando is literally Yeah, it's literally
like right after because because Elizabeth is
is just being transferred. Yeah after being captured
so right so this Specifically is after however
everybody was so confused because Ahsoka showed
up in Mando and Mando is so far flung into the
future after Jedi Five years is far -flung? A
lot can happen in five years. You know this.
Dude, it was five years. Five years from now,
I don't know if I'll probably still be podcasting,
but five years from now is pretty far -flung
to me. Okay. I don't know. Far -flung, it rolls
off the tongue. Leave me alone. I'm an old man,
damn it. So but that was the question was where
is this and it's obviously literally picking
up right after the end of rebels Because of what
happens with Ahsoka and what happens with the
rebels and all that and that's why all the rebels
characters are here so All right, let's let's
get into this the our history with the franchise
in the show I watched the cartoons. Did you watch
the cartoons? I did not. All right. I watched
like the first three or four seasons of Clone
Wars. OK. And I really started to get bored.
Like it's just like it's because by then it was
like four or five years after Revenge of the
Sith. Right. It's like we know how it's going
to. I mean, it was interesting at first. I thought
they did a lot with it. You know, I think Clone
Wars made the prequels much, much better. Mm
-hmm because they fight because the movies don't
flush anything out. They just boom boom boom.
It's like the cliff notes Yeah, and so you've
got to see Anakin as a hero, you know as opposed
to like there's a creepy weirdo Who's angry all
the time you got to see him be heroic and good.
There's even an episode Called Bombad Jedi that
I really genuinely feel kind of redeems Jar Jar
makes him a good character But it was just like
look nothing's ever gonna go anywhere Cuz we're
gonna go to episode three eventually like it
can't develop yeah like and and that's always
been like the the Achilles heel of the entire
prequel thing is I think by focusing on Anakin
and Obi -Wan you focused on two characters whose
fates are written in stone And it really should
have focused more on Padme whose fate you really
didn't know and what little you did know was
apparently completely inaccurate because George
Lucas didn't get along with Natalie Portman Right.
So instead of Leia having memories with her mother,
she's off being held by one of those weirdo close
-encounters aliens while Padme holds Luke and
then dies. Continuity. Continuity, people. The
one thing I'll say about Clone Wars, because
I have now watched all of it, all seven seasons,
is that I absolutely agree with you. There's
only so much you can do with Anakin and Obi -Wan.
But they had so many other characters in Clone
Wars that they focused like they sold not soul
focus But for Jedi stuff in the Clone Wars specifically
until she denounces the Jedi spoilers Ahsoka
is kind of the main character for for the Jedi
and that's my point She should be because she
is the wild card you have no idea what happens
to her exactly like and that was to me that was
the really fascinating thing was what was gonna
happen and then the show just kept going and
going and I'm like Like are we ever gonna get
anywhere? Is he's ever gonna do anything? And
then it turns out surprise it turns out She has
a duel with Darth Vader and then gets the biggest
ass pull in Star Wars to be saved. Well, I'm
traveling special chamber. Hooray Do you like
Ahsoka as a character? Yes and Unlike a lot of
people that seem to have a big problem with the
show I don't mind that she's different as an
adult than she was as a child because I've lived
a human life and I'm not the same person I was
when I was 13, which is good, you know, like
I can see you know, like, you know, everyone's
complaining Oh, she's so stoic and cold and blah
blah blah and she was so perky and yeah Yeah,
she was perky before the Clone Wars before everyone
she knew died Mm -hmm and before her master and
father figure tried to murder her gee. She's
not as fun anymore It's one of the one of the
complaints of the show that I really don't Buy
into is she's a different person at 50 than she
was at 13 Who isn't and if they are the same
person there's something desperately wrong with
them Speaking as a guy whose house is completely
decked out and crap from his childhood Well,
I think so. You've brought this up before when
we've had conversations about how you're not
the same person as you once were. Like, yeah,
the whole point of growing up is that we grow.
However, I will say for me personally, yes, I
have changed. Yes, I have grown. Yes, I have.
I don't have the same, I most of the time don't
have the same asinine opinions I had when I was
13. But for the most part, I'd like to think
my fundamentals that I was taught, that I grew
up with are still there. And I am still that
same person. I'm just older, a little bit wiser,
maybe, maybe not, who knows, depending on what
my bank account looks like kind of thing. But,
you know, because we all make poor decisions
and bad choices and, and yeah, but whatever.
But like, I do agree with you that I'm not the
same I'm old and jaded at this point, but I'm
not the young, angry, teenager kid who went through
state's custody in Kentucky for five and a half
years because of stuff with my parents and everything.
I've gotten over that negativity. There's been
other negativity. What I would ask you is, because
we've established that you're a big fan of the
character, and you've watched Clone Wars and
Rebels. So, I think you would be as good a better
judge than I am. Like, do you think this character
as she is now, played by Rosario Dawson, is a
fitting end point, not an end point, but a fitting
current point for the character from the journey
she's taken? Like, because, you know, she's different
than she was at 13, but like, is there still
elements of who she, I think there is still elements
of who she is. You see those little grins and
those little kind of, You know, I think she's
playing it cool partly because that's the role
she has to play as a Jedi, as an old, you know,
as opposed to like, you know, she can't just
be as a sassy kid anymore, but she's still the
same person. I would assume she still has the
same, I mean, the show really hasn't gotten there
yet, but I mean, I would assume if she was faced
with a decision that she would behave like Ahsoka
would behave. I never think she's a different
character than Ahsoka, that's all I can say.
Even though she she's she's she's matured Yes,
that's yes as a person as a character as a whatever
Whether it's fictional or real life as long as
we mature as we aged We can still kind of be
a child like like you said we surround ourselves
with all these plastic things that essentially
mean nothing half the time Unless it's you know
means something to us as a character from when
she started to when she ended in Rebels? Absolutely.
She grew a lot. And picking up from that ending
and going into live action, like you said also,
we're only four episodes of the eight episodes
into this and I'm waiting for something. Like
we kind of got a hint of it. And yes, folks,
there will be spoilers in this. We kind of got
a hint of it at the end of episode four of the
show because when we get there, I got the thoughts
about that. All right. Well, we'll see. We'll
get referred back to earlier comments. Yes. Zone.
Yes, yes, yes. But what I like about her interactions
with that character is that. Well, we've barely
seen any. Well. Okay, I'll rephrase. In Rebels,
when she has interactions with that character,
it's shocking to her because she sees the transformation
from who she knew him to be to who he becomes.
I know you're not going to watch Rebels and that's
fine. I've got screenshots I can show. There
is a perfect image of her screaming. Just screaming
because there's a there's a cartoon on Facebook.
I don't know where it's from but it's You might
have even seen it where it's like it's it's Ahsoka
and Luke I guess they meet for one of the first
times and Luke tells her that in the end Anakin
turned back And she breaks down and cries She's
like my master came back and she breaks down
and cries because she's so happy that you know
in the end He was redeemed. Yeah, so I'll have
to find that one. But yeah, I like her as a character.
I think her characterization, because they're
still using her, is not done yet. But I do think
that she's got four episodes in a movie, so.
True. But she doesn't make it to Rise of Skywalker,
so. Because her voice is one of the voices that
calls out to Rey at the end. You know. Gotta
go back and watch that again. It's gonna be torture
But I gotta go back and watch that again because
I don't remember a lot of rise of Skywalker Yeah
And oh man look I know because nerds pointed
it out and like oh, I think it was Ashley they
used her voice. Oh She's one of the voices at
the end that calls out to Ray Yeah, I love Ashley
as the voice and I love Rosario as the character
now. I think that is so, so cool because Ashley
can kind of stick in the, like, whenever I see,
because I follow her, I follow James Arnold Taylor,
I follow Matt Lanter, I follow all the voice
actors on Instagram. either she will do it or
one of them will do it on one of their stories
on Instagram and they will all be at a convention
or whatever else and she'll you know throw hey
sky guy and all this and everything else I just
love seeing them be the characters as them you
know as their real selves kind of thing but I
love that that that she's the animated voice
and Rosario is is the live -action voice and
it works I really think it works for the character
and We're gonna wait and see this to see what
happens with the character What a level of a
fan were you before heading into the prep work
for this? Okay, let me just make a little toast
before we begin That is my r2d2 toaster which
we mentioned on an earlier episode it's over
on toy cast folks you'll hear that There's There's
a photo on my wall. I've got this one wall in
my house It's like the family wall with pictures
of all my my distant relatives and my family
and there's a photo of us in 1977 in Florida
because my grandmother lived there and I was
staying in a hotel room with my cousins who were
all teenagers and They were all excited. They
had just seen this movie and it was this great
movie They're gonna go back and see it and I'm
little six -year -old me and I'm like, oh can
I come with you and they're like? No you wouldn't
like. And that movie was Albert Einstein. I mean,
that movie was Star Wars. Yeah. And one of the
things is back in the day, they didn't have like
the big everything releases on the same day kind
of thing. So technically, even though everybody
had seen it first, I saw it opening day in Durham,
North Carolina, like it came to Durham eventually.
I saw it opening night. And I mean, I had all
the toys. I had like I had I had everything.
I loved it. We've talked on Dave and Deval's
Toys and Collectibles a lot about how the 70s
in particular were a bad time for children and
family entertainment in general. We had Watership
Down. That was a kid's movie. We had that Raggedy
Ann and Andy movie that was depressing as hell.
The 70s were a very weird time. The studio system
had broken down. You had a lot of au tours. You
had a lot of grown -up movies, though. You had,
like, The Godfather. You had The French Connection.
You had, you know, Apocalypse Now and all these
movies about Vietnam. But it wasn't a very kid
-friendly time until Star Wars came along, and
it was a very... This is one of the things I
was trying to get at when we were talking in
one of the toy casts about Rebel Moon. It was
very family -friendly. It had a very friendly...
You know, like, kids could watch it and experience
the magic, you know? So, yeah, I mean, it was
a big thing. And the thing is, Star Wars came
out... My parents were still together. We lived
in North Carolina. I was headed towards advanced
placement in school. Empire came out. The first
image I saw from Empire was in a psychiatrist's
office because I was in family counseling because
my parents were splitting up. It was a picture
of Luke on the Tauntaun in Time Magazine. And
Jedi came out. I was in Springfield. My mom was
a single mother who worked all the time. And
dad was gone the dog was gone the cat was gone
the house was gone i live in this neighborhood
that was out of a steven king story was scary
as teenagers who love to pick on the little fat
kid. And star wars was the glue. That held my
world together i mean literally it was the thing
i held on for and i would buy those those you
know like star logs and other knockoff star logs
with the pictures the mccrory concept art from
return of the jedi that give you a weird glimpse
of the sale bar you didn't know what it was.
It was, you know, like, I watched the Ewoks cartoons,
I watched the droids cartoons, I watched the
two movies live and taped them. You know, and
I have every issue of the Marvel comic, which
is why I think all this jabbering about canon,
how Disney is evil because they got rid of the
expanded universe canon. I mean, they did that
once already. Like, there was a whole canon leading
up to, like, 9089. And then Dark Empire and Air
to the Empire came out and started a whole new
thing. I've seen Star Wars universes burn and
be thrown away like trash. There's nothing new
to me. And yeah, I was in college. I know Dark
Empire came out before college, and then Air
to the Empire came out when I was in college,
because I remember going to the Grand Union,
which is a grocery store in New York, to pick
up a copy of Air to the Empire. So yeah, Star
Wars has always been this huge part of my life.
I am going to Disney World in October, November,
specifically for, even though nobody likes Galaxy's
Edge, I'm going there for Galaxy's Edge to see
the Millennium Falcon. Touch the Millennium Falcon.
But that's, you know, because everyone told me
to wait a year. Everyone's like, oh, wait a year,
wait a year. Well, I waited a year, and that
put us into 2020. Yes. So, yeah, thanks, friends.
Well, I mean, they did they did save you from
not being infected. So no, they didn't. Because
like if I had gone the year earlier when there
was nobody there, because famously it was under,
you know, it was a year before covid. Right.
So I would have gone and there wouldn't have
been crowds and I would have been fine. I wouldn't
have gotten to see the stupid rise of the first
order. But I don't care. I'm not going to bother
with that. I know my friend Jason would be very
upset because he's a He's a Disney stan. He loves
that in that imagineering stuff. He wants to
write it just for the technical stuff. I think
he has written it by now. But like, I don't I
don't care about the First Order. Like, I just
I don't I don't because because the the ad ads
are wrong. People always get mad at me. I'm like,
the ad ads are wrong. They're they're vintage
ad ads and they should be those those gorilla
looking things from from Last Jedi. It's wrong.
It's all wrong. Everything wrong. Everything
wrong. But yes, point being Am about as crazed
a super fan of Star Wars as you can get even
though I haven't seen rebel even though I haven't
seen rebels and I haven't seen all of Clone Wars
I haven't read all the books because I got to
a point where the books got so bad But if you've
read dark fleet trilogy, that was terrible. And
then I read death troopers, which is the zombie
one. Oh, no Yeah, and I don't know like first
of all, they don't they didn't understand the
rules of a zombie thing cuz they were like But
by halfway through, like not even halfway through
the book, a third of the way through the book,
there were two characters left. I'm like, okay,
you have to have a cast of characters to whittle
down. And then, and then they're on a prison
ship and they open up a, open up a cell and it's
Han Solo and Chewbacca. And I'm like, okay, well,
you know, these two are going to survive. Like
there is no tension in this book whatsoever.
Well, I mean, you know, like, okay, you know,
Star Wars and zombies are stupid. It could have
been good. Like if they had been a good zombie
story, but it wasn't because it was, You know,
you always got to have like a cast of characters
and there's always gotta be one guy who gets
bit and there's always those are gonna turn and
I Just it was I got I got burned enough that
I'm like I'm done I'm done every like George
Lucas famously said the movies are canon Everything
else is rumored and I was like if it's good enough
for Papa George. It's good enough for me All
right, there you go, I like I like far worth
I like turtles and I like Thor Mr. Dave Draper,
there you go. I am kind, like, I don't know.
I didn't, because I'm nine years younger than
you are, so I was born, I was born the year the
Empire took over. I was born the year we went
to Cloud City in 80, so I was born when Empire
came out. A few months before Empire came out
actually but eventually I Would see them all
I remember seeing the first movie and At the
end of it. I'm like wait they get a medal and
everybody goes home. That's it. Really. That's
the end of the damn movie Really? This was me
at six years six seven eight nine years old and
then my mom showed me Empire and I'm like, oh
Okay, all right. Well There we go. Then I saw
Jedi and personally Jedi is my favorite not because
of the Muppets What I like about Jedi is it combines
more not necessarily more than the rest but Always
because we lived right next to the woods in Massachusetts
kind of thing is where our house was So I always
liked having adventures in the woods and just
you know pretending with fake swords and whatever
and all that stuff They weren't laser swords.
They were actual like King Arthur swords anyway
So Jedi has that perfect mix of space battle
and forest battle for me, so that's why Jedi
is my favorite Plus I like when stories end I
like seeing what the ending of a story is going
to be I don't I'm perfectly fine with a cliffhanger
as long as you come back and end the story Kind
of thing. So I think I think good endings are
undervalued by storytellers these days Because
you always want you always want people people
even write movies like the Marvel movies are
written like a TV show So there's never an ending.
There's always because you always gotta get the
next episode. You always gotta get the next one.
It's like Just give us a there's very there's
a lot of satisfaction in a solid ending the journey
comes to its conclusion and you can like just
let out a Deep breath and relax. I Don't think
people appreciate that properly. Yeah, no Like
you look at I'm gonna name two different 80s
movies that I know off the top of my head you
look at the dream team with Christopher Lloyd
and and and all those people about the psychotics
who escaped the mental institution and all that.
You look at that movie, you look at Throw Mama
from the Train with DeVito and Crystal, that's
a one -off, that's a beginning, middle, and end
story movie kind of thing. I miss that. I love
that we have had these giant spanning universes
between Star Wars and Star Trek and Marvel. DC
to some sort of extent but Marvel and Star Wars
specifically James Bond, even though it changes
every movie which is more than fine because different
adventure different whatever that's fine That's
not a problem, but I'd miss and I think we're
coming back around to this I miss that one movie
one story thing But that's that's more like even
when Star Wars came out It there was no I mean
until it became a huge hit obviously there was
no right here. We're getting I mean the whole
point of The Star Wars was radically changed
because there was no guarantee of tomorrow like
yeah, like the whole endorse famously Endora
was supposed to be Kashyyyk and the Wookiees
were supposed to be the Ewoks and There was a
whole ending that was like based on his experiences
now that he had gone to Vietnam But you know
Lucas was was prepping apocalypse now Right Francis
Ford Coppola kind of stole it from him And so
all that stuff about the Ewoks that's that's
based on Vietnam and it was supposed to be the
Wookiees and then you know He couldn't do it
all in one movie So he did the movie he did that's
why it ends with the medal ceremony and everybody's
happy But he left just enough out there to come
back movie became a huge hit. He did Empire and
he did Jedi And I was going somewhere with that
but like but you know, but the movies like, you
know, there are four jaws movies There should
not be four jaws movies. There's you know Because
Jaws tells its own, like most movies tell their
story and then people want, Hollywood likes to
make money. So most sequels are the same story
over again, only slightly different. Die Harder
in an airport, you know? A different shark attacks
Amity. Freddy Krueger comes back because the
one way to destroy him wasn't the one way to
destroy him, and this way is the way to destroy
him this time. You know? Robocop comes back because,
you know, well he didn't, I mean. Why not? Some
of it makes sense, because RoboCop is a cop in
New Detroit. Why do we need more ventures? Yeah,
some of it makes sense. And then some of it doesn't.
And that's OK, and that's fine. And sometimes
it's good. One of my all -time top five movies
is Aliens, the second one, because that was an
evolution of the original plot. The original
plot was a monster on a haunted house in space.
And the second one was one of the quintessential
80s action movies. Yeah, and and then they went
back to Monster in a Haunted House and have kind
of done that ever since What others this is three
there's four alien movies right not counting
alien versus predator There were there are four
original ones then then the two AVPs then Prometheus
and then Covenant. Oh Let us never speak of them
again. Yes, exactly So the answers in some other
movie Right in some other movie that we'll do
in 50 years when neither of us will be around
That's a tagline from Prometheus. There will
be answers and the movie literally ends with
a quiet ends with a line. Let's go find answers.
It's like Oh God that's yeah, that's definitely
a Fuck you moment. Wow. All right, so Let's talk
about the time. Yeah Well, let's talk about the
time length of these things. So, so far we have
four episodes. First one was 57 minutes, second
one was 44, third one was 37. Everybody was like,
oh my God, it's only 37 minutes. And then the
fourth one is 41 minutes. I don't have a problem
with any. I'm like, oh my, they must going to
be sticking a lot of stuff in that third episode
for 37 minutes, because I'm used to the Disney
Plus shows being somewhere between 47 and 57
minutes. Because the whole point of paying for
Disney Plus, specifically the higher tiers, is
that you get no ads at all. That's the point.
Ad free television. And that's what I love. So
I'm perfectly fine with 44 minutes, whatever,
whatever, whatever, whatever. But I remember
everyone was like, Oh my God, 37 minutes. This
isn't, but I'm like, shut up and just watch it.
And they put a lot in that third episode. You
know, ironically we talked about rewatching the
series and then I kind of got distracted by the
time the third one came up. Um, well, I mentioned
before we started recording stuff came up and
it really, you know, I hate to say this, it's
not a bit. I swear to God, this is not a bit.
That's wait, that's the one where they they they
find the big ring in space and get shot at right?
That's the one that's the one where she wears
the pajamas in space and like does kung -fu.
Yeah part. Yeah time. Okay. Okay time to flies
third episode I saw the name and I got as far
as because I was kind of curious I got as far
as a scene on home one only have the stupid civilian
home one, which is the actual ship from return
the Jedi Yeah, nice continuity and black bar
ship where they have the stupid civilian leaders
of the stupid New Republic, who literally every
Disney Plus show now is about justifying that
moment in Force Awakens, where they wipe out
the New Republic. This made me angry. The first
time I saw it, it made me angry. I'm a huge fan
of Andor. I love that show. I think it's brilliant.
I realize it's not for everybody. But I thought
it's the best thing Star Wars has done since
Empire. And in that show, Mon Mothma literally
sells her daughter to a gangster so that she
can continue to fund the rebellion and build
it. And now it's like, oh, gee, this person who's
a decorated hero who knows her stuff is saying
that there's a danger. I think I'll go pick my
nose, derp. All of a sudden, these people are
worthless idiots. And we already know from Mandalorian,
they're torturing people. It's this massive dump
on everything George built. It's like, the New
Republic sucks. So we've got to build a newer,
better Republic. And they don't even have the
weird modern excuses, because Mon Mothma and
Princess Leia were two of the architects of the
New Republic. It's almost like this weirdly reverse
modern politic thing, where the women built this
terrible, terrible, terrible place that's filled
with traitors who hate it. And even that, like
the second time around, I was watching the second
episode where it's like, why would people be
loyal to the empire? Have you seen Mandalorian
season three? Yeah. Yeah. It's, it's a little
crazy. So yeah, so she, yeah. So in, in episode
three, since we're, since we're here, we, we
go to home one, we have all the politicking stuff.
Cause you know, how do you not have. Have politicking
in Star Wars because it always is and pretty
easy called the original trilogy. Mm -hmm very
much so We get to that they're approaching setos
and I was not expecting it to be spelled the
way it is. I was expecting something else, but
that's just me Okay, how's it spelled like I
don't have it it's spelled SE, it's like C, like
Atlantic Ocean. It's S -E -A -T -O -S. I was
expecting like C -T -O -S. D -E -T -O -S, yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. I was expecting like C -T -O -S kind
of. I don't know. I was thinking in droid letters
and numbers at the time. But Mike, it's got a
big ocean. Get it? Sea -toes. Yeah, I know. I
hope that's not the actual explanation, because
that would make me sad. Make you sad that you
guessed it? Wow. It would make me sad that that's
dumb. Yeah, true. But I just pulled that out
of my butt like being a smart ass, and it's the
actual explanation. Well, it's got a big C. Let's
call it sea -toes. Please no. Please. Please
no. Please let's have them look at the script
and go, oh, wait. No. Well, I guess we've got
to run with it now. I didn't say it out loud.
I didn't think it through. Now it looks stupid.
I love the dogfight in this episode. Okay. I
just, what I love about it is we get Star Wars
dogfighting and it's just, it's awesome. You
got the six star fighters including Shin Hati
and Marek converging on Tano's T -6 shuttle.
You've got Hu Yang. the others And then you've
got para doing her thing With with Sabine and
all that I just I really dig it because I love
the aerial dogfighting. It's such great Aerial
acrobatic combat stuff Yeah, but my problem with
that scene and the scene earlier where they're
doing the the training mm -hmm is it was just
Too on -the -nose member, but I literally expected
a so could turn around and go great kid. Don't
get cocky Is that scene it is and But yeah, I
mean it just it felt very like hey you guys it
felt very member Barry, you know in a way that
I think More so than most of Disney's like I
know Disney stars gets knocked for that but like
this was like literally the scenes the actions
the beats of they're in the little guns and they're
swinging around it's like You could find some
other way to do that. I don't know. It's just
to me. It was a turn -off Okay, and you mentioned
the the training scene with with Sabine and and
Ahsoka How can I fight if I can't see was that
Ahsoka or was that Star Wars? same one Literally
the same one It is you are absolutely but I liked
it because it's Okay, I'm gonna say this and
I'm probably gonna get in trouble. Luke is a
dumb farm boy when he puts that helmet on. Luke
is a moron. I mean, for most of the first film
especially, he's dumb. Yeah, he's dumb. I don't
think Sabine is dumb in this instance. She's
angry. Whereas when Luke put it on, he got a
little whiny frustrated, but he wasn't angry
because... He was not the character that Sabine
is he isn't coming from being The Mandalorian
training and all that stuff and everything else
so that like I completely agree with you Yes,
the Ahsoka Sabine scene is essentially a copy
of it's a version of the old Ben and Luke on
the ship with the thing but it's better because
it's on a It's on a bigger ship. It's them, not
in a confined cockpit area. Fighting inside the
Millennium Falcon, that's really, really close
quarters. These giant ships of this new republic
here. Like you have whole areas where you can
just spread out kind of thing. So you never know
where. Partly because that's like the whole seating
table area retracts at the floor. Yeah. But you
also never know where Ahsoka is going to be.
And I liked watching that. I liked watching Sabine.
I don't want to say she failed. No, she failed.
To me, that's the whole thing about this arc.
And as sort of a side note, you had mentioned
that there was a special making of, and so I
watched that. We watched that kind of at the
same time, actually. And I'm now more convinced
than ever that this whole arc with Sabine is
like trying to remedy the complaints about Rey.
Ray has it too easy. Ray can do the Jedi mind
trick without even knowing that the Jedi mind
trick was a thing. You know, Ray's a Mary Sue.
Ray has everything handed to her. And then Sabine
has nothing. Like she can't do any of it. She's
got no natural skill, no natural talent. And
I was like, okay, are they gonna go where at
the last minute she does a thing and like she
can suddenly use the Force because she has to?
Surprise. Or is it gonna be that she can never
use the Force? And that would be an interesting
twist, like she finds her own way that doesn't
involve being a Padawan. Because Jedi training
can have presumably other uses. So I'm now more
convinced than ever that Sabine will turn out
to be able to use the Force, because there's
this whole seven -minute special on Disney Plus
about masters and apprentices. And so it's going
to be at the last frigging minute Sabine will
use the Force probably to pull her lightsaber
into her hand. And ta -da! I think that scene
would be more interesting if you dealt with the
whys. Asoka has a line about how her being angry
and frustrated is screwing her up. There's always
this thing in the prequels especially, Yoda never
wants to train anyone older than an embryo. Like,
too old, too old, too old, too old, you get too
old, too old. Well, like, I kind of get that
logic of it, where, you know, they're set in
their ways, they have a view of the world, you
must unlearn what you have learned. And Sabine,
particularly, has been trained as a Mandalorian
warrior, right? Or has been trained as a Mandalorian.
Yeah. So, like, she's got all this other training
in her head. And, like, it should have been,
like, she's fighting like a Mandalorian. And
Ahsoka's like trying to explain how to fight
like a Jedi, how to think like a Jedi. More importantly,
how to think like a Jedi. It's not about fighting,
it's about feeling the force. But she doesn't
say any of that, she just hits her with a stick
over and over again. And normally, to go somewhat
off topic, that was my favorite episode of Heroes.
It was the one where Doctor Who shows up and
beats the kid with a stick, because he's stupid.
Peter Prelli beats him with it, like I love that.
Abusive Doctor Who was the best character in
that show. But like she's just I mean, it's kind
of cool that she's walking around tapping, but
she should have said something given direction.
All she does is sort of tease and humiliate somebody.
And it's like you're not learning. It's like
at the end, she goes, oh, don't get angry. It's
like, thanks. After I failed and falling on my
butt, telling me what I should have done like
the whole thing is the force is you reach out
with your mind, you reach out, you calm yourself
and. The tapping with the stick, the distracting
is a distraction. Like to test you. But you have
to establish that you're connecting with the
force in the first place, because otherwise you're
just being a jerk and tap. There's no teaching
in that scene, where everyone's talking through
that whole scene. Reach out with your mind and
calm yourself and kind of see through the force
and feel things around you and be aware of your
surroundings. Whereas there's none of that in
that scene. It's just... There's a helmet that
she can't see and she's being stimulated and
she fails. Like Luke, by the way, succeeds at
the end. He tags the drone. Yeah. Because he's
a Mary Sue and he sucks. No, he's not. No, I
think now in 2023, why I like everything other.
Everything else in Star Wars other than the Skywalker
stuff is because I've been so beaten over the
head with the Skywalker stuff for 50 plus years
kind of thing like Oh my friend my friend I was
there in 1977 yes I know a long road no I know
and I agree I'm not saying yeah I absolutely
I agree the other thing we should probably mention
you know, dedicated to Ray Stevenson because
he passed away, so Balen probably. I don't know
how much he got filmed before he passed. I kind
of just assumed he filmed the whole thing. I
would assume so. He died on May 21st of this
year, so if filming didn't... Oh, that would
suck. Finish by then, it would absolutely suck.
Because I know we're on a script, but he's the
best thing about that. There's a moment in episode
four, which I'm not as big a fan of the show
as you seem to be, and I won't say it redeemed
it, but it got me interested enough to keep going
with it. There's a scene at the very end where
you get a sense of this character. he's he's
really interesting like he's Something kind of
different. I mean, I like I like an honorable
villain Yeah, my problem is that there's been
no backstory on him Almost none like I guess
the the robot trained him or the robot knew him
as a young Padawan Yeah, the dr. Who robot camera
his name. He's got some weird name who yang who
yang who yang mentions that he had he had Yeah,
he knew a young Padawan who had that same lightsaber
and he knew his name but like there's no backstory
on him There's no I don't know what his relationship
really is because I thought he was a mercenary
Because at the very beginning when he rescues
the mean lady Morgan She says, you know, they
make a mention of the getting paid heavily But
all of a sudden he's got like weird visions of
glory If Thrawn comes back and I'm like, I don't
understand how that works. That's it's very underpants
gnomes It's like, step one, rescue Thrawn, step
two, question mark, step three, glory and fortune
and power. Like, I would almost like it better
if it turns out there's something else there
that he's actually secretly after. Yeah, that
would be cool. Because one of the things I do
like about the show, because initially I hated
the map. I thought it was stupid. And then in
the second episode, they put it in the Stonehenge
and you hear the whale sound. Yeah. And I thought,
OK. It's not a map to Thrawn that these ancient
aliens figured out. It's the roots of the whales.
Because I know how Thrawn got taken out at the
end of Rebels. He got kidnapped by space whales.
So I knew that. So I was like, OK, it's a map
of the whale's migration route. That's kind of
clever. And I like that. And then they confirmed
that in the third episode, that it was the map
of the migration route. I'm like, OK, that's
clever. I like that. I like that it's just coincidental
that the map can fits with what happened. Sometimes
coincidences are good for a story. As opposed
to having a knife that if you pull a little Swiss
Army knife thing out, it perfectly matches a
piece of wreckage on a moon of Endor that's been
sitting in salt water for 30 years. Somehow those
two things match perfectly. That movie was so
stupid. Stop with maps. I think they pulled it
off in a silica. You redeemed the hunt for the
map storyline kind of okay it's done you did
it right you had three tries now you had the
map in in force awakens you had the map in rise
of skywalker enough maps we've done maps maps
are good leave maps alone if mandalorian if mando
and grogu are looking for a map in season four
i am walking away is there even going to be a
season four because doesn't pedro want to not
do it any like i thought that and If you want
at some point Like I have always wondered do
you need him? I don't like it way too Cuz cuz
most the time it's John Wayne's kid as a stunt
performer in the in the outfit or his grandson
It's it's some relation of John Wayne is a stunt
performer in the outfit Okay, um cuz Pedro doesn't
like to walk around in the outfit. Let him go
Okay, his voice is not that his voice doesn't
even sound like Pedro So like just get someone
else to dub the you could get someone else to
play Mando. I know Favreau has said that there
are scripts for season four that they've been
written. Maybe because of the strike, he'll have
a chance to do like a second draft as opposed
to season three. Maybe next time, no matter how
much like people really are huge Star Wars fans,
like don't cast them. I got yelled at, I didn't
get yelled at, but I got snapped back on that
one I complained about. I didn't even know, I
knew Lizzo was a person who existed, but I didn't
know when I was watching that episode that it
was Lizzo. I just thought it was a very bad actress.
Okay. And then and then Jack Black was like over
acting for the both of them. And I thought they
were both bad. And then someone was like, Oh,
you know, Liz was like a huge Star Wars fan.
I'm like, Okay, that's fair. But like, be a background
care. Don't be a main character if you're not
good at it. I would, you know, Daniel Craig was
in a Stormtrooper helmet in Force Awakens. Like,
you don't got to be the force, the main the main
character, especially if you're not good. Yeah,
and she may be a I'm not familiar with her music,
but she may be a great songstress Yeah, she's
not a great actress Yeah, and jack black all's
that guy knows and I like some of his films,
but all he really knows is playing Over the top
playing himself. Yeah playing a character of
himself a cartoon of itself Okay, it's not a
bad thing. But you know, I didn't need it in
Star Wars that but that that character Wasn't
that role? Like there was nothing about being
the consort of the queen or whatever she was
that needed that Jack Black energy. He wasn't
like a galactic con man or he wasn't like a galactic
rock and roll star or whatever. He was just this
really overly Jack Black character that was just
a guy that was with the queen. There was no reason
for it and I realized that people are random
and maybe there's a guy with a queen that's crazy
and over the top, but it just, it didn't work
for me in general. And the two of them together,
it really took me out of the episode. And then
frankly, I didn't think Christopher Lloyd was
very good in that episode. Like I think he was,
but he, I think he was just there to get a pay.
Yeah. I think he was just there to get a paycheck.
Not that he didn't do well. He did okay for what
it was, but it wasn't like it, it wasn't like
them try. Oh, we, we. grabbed a flying DeLorean
out of a different universe, out of a different
timeline, and here's Doc Brown. It wasn't Doc
Brown, it was... No, no, and his character was
kind of interesting, like he had an interesting
take, but I felt more, it's like watching an
actor you really like who's really, this is gonna
sound terrible, I'm an old man, I'm limping around
the house, but you feel sorry for a moment, like
when their performances sound like they're in
pain, and his sound like he was a hurting...
I know who would like I hated a Richard Harris
and the Harry Potter movies Because because especially
that character is so full of life and he was
dying at the time and he sounded like he was
dying at the time like just you Cringe when you
watch it. It's just and that's sad because I
really like that actor and I don't want to like
think of him in peen and sort of prodding on
set and saying the lines and This is me Yeah,
I don't like it when they Do that kind of like
if you can still do it like yeah You know if
you can still do it if it's even if it's just
a guest role or a guest spot and it's like of
like oh What's the? What's the best example of
I? Don't know I've gone I've gone off if he is
again if he if okay, so if he was still alive
today Okay, and you'll I'll tell you that he
was in a moment if he was still alive today and
somehow they fit him in To the Super Mario Brothers
movie the animated one. It would have been great
to hear Bob Hoskins voice Somewhere in that movie.
Yeah, but since they but my point in saying that
is that Okay, I get it would be it would be a
nice little Easter egg Right. Yeah, there's a
huge difference in Easter egg rolls versus guest
rolls versus Maine. And I just don't, I don't
know. Well, you know, like we literally have
an example in the show, which is, you know, like
you watch the show and you have no idea that
Ray Stevens' time is ticking down. He's in great
form. If you've ever watched, I keep pushing
this on everybody, there's this fantastic movie.
out of india called rrr ray stevens is the villain
is it ray stevens ray stevens i'm probably sounding
like it's ray it's ray stevenson he's the villain
in that um and he's amazing and then allison
duty from um last crusade is his wife in that
movie and she's she's even more evil than he
is and it's this fantastic movie like he gives
a great performance in that too so yeah i mean
it's just i i just don't want to cringe when
i see somebody i like the thing Yeah, exactly.
No, but he is the best thing in the show. I really
hope like that was a weird curveball to throw
I really hope that they finished filming with
him Again, I don't I don't have any information.
I I haven't looked up like to my knowledge I
haven't seen on Wikipedia like oh my god he blah
blah blah but I'm gonna have to look it up just
to make sure that you know heaven forbid I say
something wrong on a podcast and People are like,
Oh my God, how did you get this? I don't know.
All I know is he passed away and here he is now
being a bad ass Jedi, whatever he is in a Soca.
So he's a villain with honor, which is an interesting,
and he's a smart villain, which is again, kind
of precious rare where he knows her weak point
and he presses it. And then in the end, he, he
keeps to his word and that's, that's really cool.
The show had my favorite, that episode had my
favorite moment in the series so far, and he's
favorite moment in the series so far. Okay, so
what was your favorite moment? My favorite moment
is when he talks Sabine down and then his apprentice
tries to kill her and he's like, stop it. I gave
her my word. That whole sequence is great. You
really don't know which way she's gonna... I
mean, I guess you can kind of guess that Sabine's
gonna give over the map, but like you don't really
know, especially if you're not super familiar
with the character, you don't really know which
way she's gonna pop or where it's gonna go. For
story reasons, I kind of suspected she'd hand
over the map, but I think he made a convincing
enough argument and the fact that he kind of
calls off his apprentice afterwards reinforces
that he was being sincere. It makes that moment.
that that was a great moment that's and it made
me immediately wish I knew more about this character
and I made me wish that they would do a vintage
series figure of this Son of a gun instead of
just the black series. Yeah, cuz I want I want
the toy like that's that's that's always the
highest compliment I can give a show or movie
is when I go I want the toy I want it I want
a figure of him. I don't like black series. Okay,
I can Probably tell you that it's going he's
probably going to be in all eight episodes Because
according to Wikipedia filming lasted six months
and wrapped up in October of 2022 according to
this So he passed away in May of this year May
the may the Sith be with him. I don't know but
may the force whatever you get it Yes, absolutely.
So episode four, part four, Fallen Jedi. Wow.
Oh, that's like a, that's like a double thing.
That's a clever little. Uh -huh. Because we've
got a Fallen Jedi with Balen and Ahsoka Falls.
Ahsoka Falls, yep. And there's a sentient fur
cloud. Yes, there is. Oh my god, that was just
okay. So that's like that's one of those that's
where the show Fails, I think really I mean that's
not my least favorite moment by the way because
I was thrilled that there was a sentient for
cloud but like To go back to one of the things
we were saying about the the promotional film
the seven -minute promotional film before we
start recording we mentioned that Kathleen Kennedy
shows up and She says you can watch this show
without ever having to see anything else and
I was like no No, you can't. No, I would absolutely
not recommend it. I'm barely hanging on because
I'm enough of a Star Wars uber nerd that I know
about the rebels crew from Osmosis. I know who
these people are because I follow enough Star
Wars chatter. And I'm having issues with characters
and motivation. The idea that I had to read an
article on Gizmodo about Dathomir witches when
they possess people or they bring back the dead
like when they when they when they most people
die they release a green cloud yep i didn't know
that like i literally thought that the asoka
ripped his containment suit and he was a gas
creature or something i didn't know any of that
and like and the show itself never explains it
and it's doubly funny to me because the whole
what hype was there what hype was there in the
media for asoka was who is this guy Is he Ezra?
Is he the guy from the video games? Who is this
guy? And he's a far cloud. I wrote when I forget
when but according to this it was August 30th,
but It was Okay, it was when episode 3 Got released
so I wrote this and I think I put it on several
social medias had all caps and then dot dot dot
all caps no spoilers I am so glad that I did
marathon through rebels because Ahsoka is the
series that is not for the general public that
hasn't already watched rebels it is definitely
for those of us who have watched that cartoon
series and the rest of of the Ahsoka stuff so
yeah I I completely see where you're coming from
where you're like oh god I have to go look into
this to figure out what is going on and that
is not good but it also like I'm perfectly fine
with something being specifically for the fans
that have actually watched the previous thing
that character was in. I'm also perfectly fine
with something brand new that you have to really
like what is it Rogue One. I remember watching
Rogue One back in 2016 when we did an episode
of it on some other show that doesn't exist anymore
on the GCRN. But I did not give two craps about
Rogue One at all because I didn't know anything
about any of the characters. The only thing,
and that opinion is probably going to change
because you and I have to discuss Star Wars stuff
off air. at the time in 2016, 2016 Mike didn't
give two shits about Rogue One until a certain,
you know, beautifully blacked visaged guy with
a red lightsaber shows up. The fanservice, yeah.
Uh -huh, the fans, exactly, because I knew nothing
about any of those characters. However, going
forward, I'm going to try, because Andor happens
before the events of Rogue One, correct? Yes.
Yes. I'm going to watch. If they do season two,
I mean, they were working on it and the strike
happened. So season two is supposed to end right
before Road 1. OK. So I will watch Andor. And
then I think maybe you can tell me whatever.
I will watch season one of Andor. And we could
do an episode if you want to. And then I will.
If you want to. Yeah. As big a fanboy of Ahsoka
as you are, I'm like, I love. that show. I love
Andor. I'm up for giving it a try. My concern
is I think it flew under the radar, which is
why it's good. And now the evil one, now that
it's gotten a lot of hype and a lot of like a
lot of a lot of reviewers, not necessarily fans,
but reviewers, which that's really good. I'm
worried that the evil one will take notice of
it and want to improve it. I'm like, leave my
baby alone. It's precious. Wonderful. But the
thing is, Mike, how do you What's any movie then?
Like, because nine times you walk into a movie,
you don't know who these guys are. I'm looking
at posters for Buckaroo Banzai and Big Tribble
in Little China right now. Did you know who Jack
Burton was before the credits rolled? Did you
know who Buckaroo Banzai was? Did you know? No.
Almost every movie you start with a blank slate.
True. One is a blank slate for Star Wars. So
it's like, I don't know, I don't get that. I
don't have a 10 -year history with these characters,
so I don't have any attachment to them. I've
got a buddy who's got that attitude with Android.
I'm like, how did you watch Team Space Nine?
Because you loved Team Space Nine. But Cisco
wasn't in the original series. Yeah, and he wasn't
in Next Generation either, so. Yeah, well, he
hated Next Generation. Oh, Lord. He's one of
those guys. he's coming around but like his whole
thing was that's that's a different different
captain it's not kirk it's not spock it's not
my star it's not my star trek but then by d69
he had kind of accepted that star trek moved
on you know he got into that like the thing with
world one is like yeah okay they are all new
characters it's a new story but like dude like
do you have to have the same characters in every
story no but i want to have I want to be able
to get attached to the characters. I want the
characters for me to be likeable to me. And when
I watched that movie, at least what I remember
from fucking seven years ago, I did not enjoy
any of the characters at the time. See, Cassie
and Andor are like Merck's a guy within like
the first five seconds of meeting him because
he's a hindrance. I'm like, I like you. And then
the Chirrut, who's like the, he's not a Jedi,
but he was one of the guardians of the Jedi temple.
Oh, he's so good. He's such a cool character.
Cause he's not a Jedi, but the force is with
him, which I think is like, I could spend an
entire episode yammering about the force and
about how it's being treated and how fans seem
to think that only the chosen ones are allowed
to have the force. Only if you have a million
midichlorians can you have the force. And stupid
Disney is making it so people who aren't special
can use the force. It's one thing that I think
they teased in Last Jedi and didn't really develop.
And it makes me sad because I think the force
is generated by all living things, which to me
means that it belongs to all of us. We all generate
it. It's the ultimate communism. We're all part
of it. We're all part of this huge Ocean of energy
that that we create and we bring into ourselves
and we pass on and I think You know one of the
frustrations I have about the prequels is that
we know that the Jedi order was was destroyed
because the force willed it Like that's that's
that's pretty much stated. It was it was it was
it was flawed and it needed to be destroyed But
they never explained how it was flawed and why
that decision was made by the force. It was just
like, well, it needed to get wiped clean. To
bring balance to the force, you needed to wipe
out the Jedi and the Sith. So why were the Jedi
flawed? Well, what did they do wrong? And I guess
in one of the novelizations, which I don't remember
reading, but Yoda kind of reflects on that. He's
like, we've, we've drifted too far. We, you know,
we've lost our connection. You know, cause there's
a whole thing about you're not allowed to be
with other people. You're not allowed to love,
not allowed to have connections. And that's a
weird thing for a group of people that like serve
life. I think that was, if you pay attention,
that was kind of Qui -Gon's thing. He was a servant
of the force. He served the living force. And
everyone else is a Jedi master. They're mastering
the force. And I think that's the difference.
I think that was the difference between the Sith
and the Jedi was that the Sith were like, this
is a thing we control, not a thing we serve.
And I think the Jedi kind of went down that road.
They used that mastery for benevolent purposes,
but they lost the idea that they're the servants
of the forest rather than the masters of the
forest. None of this matters because in the stupid
book of Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker is like, you
have to choose between being a Jedi or having
people in your life, Grogu. Thanks for learning,
Luke. Glad you died pointlessly. So seven years
later, I am willing to give Rogue One a second
chance, but only after we watch Andor, because
I want to see Andor. If Andor comes before the
events of that movie, I need to see... We've
talked about this on and off air. I want to see
the beginning of the story kind of thing for
that character. So that's all stuff in the future,
folks. But it's not just the beginning of the
character. But the the secret of and or is not
it's not the beginning of and or it's not the
beginning of the rebellion The trick is that
you don't even notice until you suddenly realize
it. The trick is it's the beginning of the Empire
Right at the beginning of the show. There's a
thing called the Galactic Empire and at the end
of the show there's the thing from Star Wars
and You see it be born and it's really cool and
it's really clever how they do it and again I
this is gonna sound weird and it's gonna sound
very snotty And it's really not meant that way,
because I think Star Wars, as I've seen earlier,
Star Wars is for everyone. Star Wars has a very
childlike thing, which is not a bad thing. To
say that something's childlike always seems like
an insult. But that's part of the magic. That's
part of why Star Wars will stick with me when
almost other things won't. Because it's that
childlike sense of wonder. It'll always connect
with you. Andor is for grownups. Who love Star
Wars. It's a grownup take on things. And it's
still got, like, It's kind of got space battles.
It's got you know, it's got action in it. Yeah,
but it's it's it's thinking about things, right?
And it's thinking about like It pulls this gloriously
nasty trick halfway through where you're like
rooting for a character and then you realize
what you're rooting for like it's very clear
what you're rooting for and you're like, oh no
You have chosen poorly But it's it's I Love it.
It's always gonna be my special baby. I hope
season two gets made and I hope it's as good
as season one That really revitalized me in a
big way because that came right after book above
a fit and I think it came after Obi -Wan I can't
remember cuz I remember Obi -Wan just left me
Dead inside. Yeah, let's not. Yeah, so anyway.

Reviews podcast, we talk movies. We talk TV.
Yes, so episode four, Fallen Jedi. Yeah, I they're
basically trying to stop You know Thrawn from
from coming back And they're gonna fail like
part of my problem is you know, they're gonna
fail. Oh, yeah. Well, they have to fail in order
to succeed and so yeah, well, that's the thing
like The problem is as a fan of Star Wars and
even though I didn't watch rebels I did read
the the Timothy Zahn books back in the day. So
I know who Thrawn is yeah and I kind of like
him as a character. I mean, he's basically Sherlock
Holmes. He's Sherlock Holmes and Pallian is Watson.
Oh my goodness. Goodness gracious, Thrawn. You've
done it again. But like, as a fan, you want to
see Thrawn. You want to get to Thrawn. You wish
that the sequel movies had had Thrawn in them.
So like we're rooting against our heroes in a
way. We don't want you to stop them from getting
Thrawn back. We want to see Thrawn. Like like
stop just put your just just let them do it let
them do their thing. This would be interesting
and cool We'll have a cool. I mean we like this
one guy, but we like thrown pre -built. We want
you to fail Yeah, and I think they are gonna
fail. Oh, they're absolutely gonna fail. Yeah,
they're there because you like you said There's
a movie coming and we need a villain for it that
people care about like this whole show Is the
is the and or if you will uh -huh to to a rogue
one? That will probably be called heir to the
Empire like Disney would be stupid not to call
it that but it'll be thrown threatening the New
Republic right at this point the shows have made
me hate the New Republic and We also know that
the classic characters aren't gonna be in it.
Yeah, it's gonna be I mean they've said it's
the end of the Mandover so Mando will be in it
a soca will be in it Boba Fett might be in it
Definitely what's her name the girl from book
the the min min one ying Yeah, but it will probably
be in it like everyone everyone they can get
from the Disney plus shows those three shows
particularly will be in it It'll be the end game
of the Disney plus shows No, well, I mean that
that's how you sell it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, there'll
be a soca and baby grogu fighting together Against
the menace of thron and that's right I mean,
I can already see, I can see they'll make the
Naguri, I don't know how to pronounce it, the
weird monsters that serve Darth Vader. They'll
be aliens from the other galaxy, or the Yasmari,
which are the creatures that block the Force.
They'll be from the other galaxy, and that'll
be Thrawn's secret. Because that was the whole
thing, is he found these creatures that block
the Force. And that's why Luke couldn't touch
him, because the Force didn't work on him. That's
why the figure comes with these weird little
yellow monsters that... that kind of you pose
on them. They're creatures that were hunted by
force using monsters, creatures, keep saying
monsters, but monsters are more interesting.
They were hunted by force using creatures, so
they developed a force blackout zone around them.
And he used that to protect himself. And by the
way, he was not the heir to the empire. Leia
was the heir to the empire, which they kind of
forget. This is going to sound mean. I don't
know if Loney's read those books. I don't know
if he has either, but I like what he does. I
think he has talents. Yes, absolutely. So, yeah,
episode four, they do the hyperspace, they do
all kinds of stuff and everything kind of happens.
And, and... Hera brings her child into battle.
Which I know, which for some reason bothers a
lot of people more than it bothers me. I'm like,
what was she supposed to do with the kid? Leave
him running around unsupervised on home one?
Mm -hmm. Yeah. I do love that he has the line,
the line that we all know, love, and maybe hate.
I've got a bad feeling about this. No, he just
says he's got a bad feeling. He doesn't have
to be about this. OK, well, yeah. I was hypersensitive
to that. Was it good for you, or bad for you
that he said it? It wasn't either. It was fine.
It was like, OK, I get it. And his dad's a Jedi,
so he makes sense that he would. Again, his dad's
a Jedi, so he's going to have Jedi powers. That's
how the Force works, is it's medieval nobility.
Your dad has to be a Jedi for you to be a Jedi.
You can't just be some normal guy who has the
Force. That's not how that works not special
I Do love and this is a little bit earlier but
in the when the the the transport was was escaping
when they were all that my favorite is Hera and
chopper are going back and forth Can't just shoot
it down it would crash into the port city Just
ready a tracking device. And don't miss this
time. No, I did not go through your stuff. Did
you look under the backup battery? See, I think
that's a that's kind of like it was a cute moment
and I enjoy it. Yeah, but like. I'm not dying
of laughter because I don't have that connection
with those guys. It's not like, oh, those two
guys fighting again. It's a cute moment. It's
not a bad moment. It's a cute moment. It's funny.
His little head arms do a little hands on hips
thing. Like, no, you messed with my stuff. No,
I didn't. Yes, you did. Yeah. He does say, yes,
you did. Yes, he does. He does. In that tone,
too. Yeah. And then that. That is what I love
about it. And the way I see it is that Hera and
Chopper are the Clone Wars rebels, whatever you
want to call it, whatever we're calling this
part of the universe. They are the Han and Chewie
kind of thing. I was just about to say that.
But I mean, I think it's the way that Han and
Chewie's relationship was in Star Wars versus
Empire. Because when Empire and Han's calling
them a Laugh it up you fuzzball like they like
it's funnier because you've seen them together
before you know the depth of their friendship
Where I'm coming into this relatively new I knew
that I knew that chopper was saucy. Yeah, he's
a saucy robot, but I Again, I think there is
always this wall there because they just Really?
Like you were saying with and or like you you
didn't know who this guy was. It's like I don't
know who these guys really are I'm open to being
introduced to them. It's a cute scene, but I
don't think it hits unless you're a fan. It hits
as hard unless you're a fan. For Ahsoka the character,
if you don't want to go back and watch the rest
of Clone Wars, because you said you watched four
or five seasons of it, it's only got two more
seasons after that. Rebels is only four seasons,
and I think you would like it. Have literally
never heard anything but good things about it
from other Star Wars fans. So the end of this
the end of this episode here Yeah So so she fell
off the cliff because you always get to fall
off the cliff and well, she's a fallen Jedi.
That's right She awakens in the world between
worlds Which is a thing that I only know about
because people complain about it from rebels
Yeah, and someone who isn't familiar with rebels
is gonna go Did she just get the soul stone?
What happened? Am I wrong? Because they don't
explain it at all. They don't explain it at all,
but again, I personally think this show is specifically
being done for... those who have watched Rebels
and who know the events of that and everything
else. I've been a Star Wars fan my whole life,
and I didn't really watch Rebels. How many people
watched Rebels? One of the best things I can
say about the show is also kind of a knock, which
is it looks fantastic. It looks like It looks
like they spent hundreds of millions of dollars
on this show. But if you make a show that's just
for the super hardcore fans that watch every
episode of Rebels, is that worth it? Is that
a smart move? I mean, it's cool if you're a Rebels
fan, but if your Disney was that, I don't know.
I don't know. I mean, I don't have the numbers
in front of me for rebels, but I mean, they're
bad or not rebels Oh, yeah, you know who knows
what the no I don't even Know hey, we know that
it's only gonna be eight episodes for the first
season So it may never get a second season and
as long as they know it's not supposed to it's
supposed to get a movie like Oh Well, that's
the whole point. It was supposed to set up Thrawn
as the threat for the movie that Dave Filoni
is going to direct. That's absolutely going to
happen because Disney is not going to go bankrupt
as its stock plummets. Yeah, you never know if
it's going to. Well, no, that's the thing is,
as we were talking about movies earlier, you
made Jaws never knowing if it was going to make
money. Yeah. And like you, you don't make TV
shows. I mean, this is a flaw of the MCU. You
don't make things just assuming you're gonna
get it tomorrow. Yeah, you know you used to make
movies to stand on their own Yeah, and then if
there was a tie -in it was cool like like with
the with the Marvel stuff It was the end credit
thing was supposed to be the little and then
suddenly you didn't see the whole movie to see
the next movie you had to watch WandaVision to
see dr. Strange you had it like People don't
like doing a homework for their entertainment
They just don't So she awakens and he said, you
know, he greets her by saying hello snips and
she calls out to him and he did not expect her
to see her back so soon and You just said he
didn't expect to see her so soon because has
she ever been there? Well, she was there with
Ezra. Yeah, she was there with Ezra. Yes No,
Anakin wasn't there then but they have this Connection
in It's in Clone Wars and then late is it later
and I'm trying to I gotta remember where I gotta
look at my screenshot Titles because I tried
not Darth Vader until the end of Clone War until
the end of Clone Wars Clone Wars. Yeah, so Yeah,
I gotta look at that again. Anyway, that's in
Clone Wars end with Order 66. I want to say yes,
but Execute Order 66. No, it has Order 66 in
it. Well, okay, not counting flash forwards,
like quick little flash forward snippets. I mean,
the arc of the story ends kind of with the end
of the Clone Wars, right? I mean, hence a clever
name. It does, but it doesn't because it has,
like, Order 66 happens during it, if that makes
any sense? That makes sense. Okay, so Order 66
happens during Clone Wars and because they have
the Bad Batch and everything else and all this
and all that and how the Bad Batch weren't affected,
whatever else. And they also go through in Clone
Wars and they talk about how Rex fixed his chip
or fixed his whatever so he didn't... Do the
whole changing over to the obedient slaves that
the the the clones ended up being most of them
So yeah, I don't know. Well, they set that up,
right? Okay, isn't there an episode where a clone
ship goes off or clones chip goes off early?
And they're like, hey, whoa, what's the deal?
Yeah Yeah Marathoned it and I don't remember
all of it now. I remember a friend told me about
that episode Yeah, I just I just assumed that
like Rex kind of was like, okay I don't want
this thing in my skull anymore. Oh, yeah Yeah
that that happened and they did remove the chip
from from Rex and they removed it from Some of
the other ones but like the way the if I remember
again folks from remembering incorrectly Just
just correct me I remember correctly the bad
batch didn't even get turned because they had
some other whatever I forget. So yes, the fourth
episode of the series or the mini series or whatever
we're calling this ends with the two of them.
And I can't wait for episode five because they
have to pay this off at the beginning of if they
don't pay this off at the beginning of episode
five, we're going to have problems, Disney. Okay,
what do you mean by pay it off like they have
to do something at the beginning of episode five
They have to continue it from this point of her
seeing him something by by Definition they do
I mean, yeah, like they'll have a conversation
like my fear They'll have a little conversation.
How you doing? How are the kids? Oh, you know
get caught up on things and then because it's
a magical realm between the worlds Ahsoka will
use it to get to the other galaxy. Because I
mean, how else is she going to get there? Right?
Yeah, I agree. It's Ahsoka's series and like
all the other cast members are on the other side
of the universe. So like, it's going to be this
massive ass pool where it's like the it's like
the Nexus in Generations. It's like, like, you
know, I need to leave. Where do you want to go?
Well, I want to go here and meet you. How else
do you get? Like, are you really going to have
two or three episodes with Ahsoka? like nowhere
near the main cast. Not dealing with anything,
then just why not call it Sabine? Yeah, that's
very true. I mean, they might not do that. I
mean, it's sort of like a no -one situation,
because if she just hangs out on the side of
the galaxy, what is our title character going
to be doing? Yeah. Yeah, I want... I don't know.
Don't know what I want. I want something that
Doesn't clear up the cliffhanger but just some
little button -up kind of thing and then maybe
he gives her away or shows her a way to get from
the world between worlds to the Because the way
the other people are getting to the other galaxy.
They have this whole point to point to point
to point to Wormholes or whatever the fuck it
is Well, yeah, and they they have big honking
they have like six big honking hyper drives Yeah,
like it's established that it's not an easy thing
to do No, it's not an easy thing to do So it
shouldn't just be an easy like hop skipping a
jump for her, but I want like you end this episode
Because this episode of the podcast won't be
out until Probably the week of episode five coming
out because I haven't forbid I put a podcast
out Oh my god, and we already said spoilers at
the beginning of this folks. If you don't know
then it's your own damn fault But I'm probably
gonna put this out like early next week right
before episode five comes out because I want
to Like yeah, I want to see a little bit more
with them and I think it's gonna be really cool
to see Rosario and Hayden acting on screen as
the characters that I've seen throughout the
entirety of Clone Wars. Yeah, I'm just really
excited about it. To see what happens. At this
point, I want to know, I want to see more of
Baelin. I'm invested in his character, where
he goes, what his arc is. I want to see Thrawn
in live action. Again, like I said, the ironic
crux of the thing is I want them to fail and
I want the villain to come back because my fear
is that I'm right and that this whole thing is
a setup for the movie and it's going to end on
a big cliffhanger. Thrawn is back and he got
away from us and now there's a threat to our
beloved New Republic that gets wiped out in 25
years anyway. Yeah. Oh, no. There's another thing
he's like, oh no, first of all, not the terrible
terrible New Republic that tortures people wipes
their brain Not that terrible that that New Republic
that that never recognized that has SNL cast
members making fleet decisions I'm not against
act not against comedians because I know I already
went after Jack Black I'm not against comedians
playing serious roles, but you got a Play a serious
role like his scene starts with him having like
shenanigans with an astromech. Yeah, and he's
an SNL cast member So I'm like, okay, you're
goofy. Haha, but you're also in charge of like
the Western Spyro fleet Like I don't respect
you because you're goofy Like you if you've been
very serious and very straight -laced about the
whole thing and maybe the fact that you were
obviously swayed by the most obvious double agent
in Imperial history Make you look less stupid
But you're a goofy, lovable guy. We just torture
people, wipe their brains. We're not bad. I'm
just a simple guy who's flustered by my droid.
He doesn't work right. And no, I'm not going
to send you ships to help you deal with this
threat to the galaxy. Heck no. Why would I do
that? This lady here who's completely trustworthy,
who was the last person alive to see this important
figure on the electric circuit before his brain
melted. She's very traumatized by that. We've
got to believe everything she says and she says
it's no big deal She can't be setting us up at
all work We trust everybody implicitly and because
you know why we trust everybody implicitly Mike,
you know why the New Republic trust everybody
implicitly? Because we'll fry your brain until
you are trustworthy This is your brain This is
your brain on the New Republic. Well, this is
your brain in a machine that isn't the quote
mind flayer. It's just a machine that's designed
based on the exact same specs as the mind flayer.
And even though it's a completely different machine,
nonetheless has brain destroying like settings.
That was so terrible. I mean, it's just badly
written and makes the Republic look like garbage.
And people are like, well, what would you do
with bubble? Look. You gotta trust them. We let
people from Germany who worked for the bad guys
work in NASA. Apparently it paid off. We got
to the moon, didn't we? Yeah, we did. So after
these first four episodes, are you excited about
watching? No. Honestly, it was very difficult
to do the re -watch. I was very bored. I was
playing Tetris through a lot of it. I would chide
myself. I was like, look, I need to pay attention
to this stuff because I wanted to take this seriously.
I really did. Halfway through the third episode
or early in the third episode, some other stuff
came up and really distracted me. I forced myself
to watch the special. It was nothing I didn't
know. I knew that Ahsoka had been Filoni's special
character from the early drafts and was the only
one that survived that early thing, Lucas, through
everything else out. It was a cool moment when
Lucas said like Lucas just he did a classic Lucas
thing which is like as long as like well Anakin
they're at Padawan and Lucas goes Yeah, yeah
That's very Lucas Very very George. That's right.
That was kind of a month, but it's just like
everybody's really excited. It's the Look, I
don't fault them for being like this is the best
thing ever We're all excited because you're not
gonna make one of those things and It's certainly
not gonna like show it to people with like, you
know I think the dialogue could have been tighter.
I don't like how my character is being developed
I'm a brain dead moron. I don't know how to write
a script. I hate Star Wars I don't know why I'm
doing this like you wouldn't produce like it
obviously everybody's very positive excited about
the show I get that yeah, but at the same time
It doesn't add much to me Like I get it. You're
you're saying you're excited for the show. You're
working on I like that I mean it is better than
the people who go and snipe on Twitter, you know,
this is the dumbest thing ever, right? You know,
there's this whole thing about the young woman
who's playing Snow White in the remake Stupid
like okay. Well then You're not gonna like your
whole point of remaking it is to bring in fans
of the Snow White and if you're saying you're
making it better or You're offending the fans
of the Snow White Like, so, yeah, I get that
nobody's gonna be doing that, although that would
be a fun thing to watch. But, yeah, I get, so
anyway, point being, no, I am not excited. If
I was not a Star Wars fan, I would not have made
it past the first episode. If that twist with
Balin hadn't happened in this episode, I don't
know that I would stay with it. Okay. All right.
It's Ahsoka. Will watch and you know it it's
it's Rosario. I love I think the reason why besides
the fact that it's the character of Ahsoka I
love her enthusiasm for the character I love
that's that's the coolest thing about when you
have somebody playing a Character that you know
and love from something else and you find someone
who absolutely loves and understands that character
where it's like Michael Keaton Michael Keaton,
okay fine Val Kilmer better Bruce Wayne than
Batman George Clooney get it the fuck out of
here You know the thing is I don't think his
performance was bad I just think the movie was
bad Yeah, but I think I think Clooney would have
been a perfect Batman if they'd cast Clooney
instead of Keaton in In the Burton Batman's I
think he would be the iconic Batman because he's
because I love Keaton. I actually like his I
think his Bruce Wayne is better than Batman because
I like that kind of distracted thing that he
does. Yeah, but I mean like Clooney had that
had the the Bruce Wayne supposed to be a handsome
guy and he's an active guy and I understand why
Burton cast Keaton because of that that Beetlejuice
intensity of rage kind of thing when he but like
yeah, no, I you know, he's sort of the I can't
remember the actor's name, but I think Clooney
gets a bad rap. The movie is undeniably bad.
They ruin Mr. Freeze. They screw up Bane, which
I don't really care about that much, but they
do screw him up. There are fans of Bane, and
they do him super dirty. Everything's stupid
and jokey and annoying, but I think Clooney is
actually, especially the scenes with him and
Alfred, because Alfred's dying. He's a good actor.
Yeah, so the final two films, Kilmer and Clooney,
they are better Bruce Wayne's than Batman's.
I think that's fair. But then again, when Clooney's
in Batman mode, he's in Joel Schumacher's world.
Yeah. So I don't think he ever got a fair shot.
I can't remember the guy. Lazenby. He's like
the George Lazenby of Batman movies. Yeah. Oh,
wow. No, like, no, I shot. I see what you're
saying. Yeah. Who knows? Maybe they'll they'll
work. Work to stop the flash. There's always
I was going to say that's what I was going to
say. Who knows? Maybe they'll work him into the
flash to or flash three or flash. Whatever the
hell you're doing. I wouldn't I wouldn't put
a lot of money on a flash. Oh, I don't either.
Don't at all. All right, folks. We're gonna go
to a quick ad break We're gonna come back with
rating the first four episodes as a whole So
episodes one through four just one rating Hey,
you're gonna hear some ads and some other stuff
and we'll come back with that and to close the
show right after this Hello Geeks and Geekettes!

inside Studio 2009 on the Geekcast Radio Network
with myself and David Draper. And yeah one last
thing final words kind of thing you had mentioned
about the you know they're gonna pull one little
ass pull about her going and my thought was oh
crap well it's a world between worlds of course
they're going to do that there's going to be
another door in the that's my wondering of what
is going to happen between her and Anakin Anakin's
gonna like hey look over there go through this
door and poof you know they've almost kind of
established that in a weird way because like
there's this whole thing where thron is talking
to morgan right it's like she can hear him and
i wonder if he's at the other temple in the other
universe and he's you know calling to her or
whatever yeah because he doesn't have the force
he's not supposed to have the force and that's
a big plot point that's it's like weaknesses
he doesn't have the force yeah Yeah, he's more
of a military general like a super uber military
general type. He's a Sherlock Holmes Yeah, like
his whole thing is he psychologically analyzes
his opponents and finds the weak spots through
their art It was so artistic Yes All right folks
rating we go by a 0 to 5 scale on the GCR Universal
rating system Uh, the link will be in the show
to say. But basically we use, uh, like I said,
zero to five with half points. Mr. David Draper,
what are you going to give the first four episodes
of Ahsoka? According to the GCRN official rating,
I'm going to give it a three. Okay. Uh, I think
there are good things in it. Overall, I just,
I don't really, like I said, I've, I've, I've
got issues with where it's going. I don't think
it's accessible to people who aren't fans. I
mean, it may be great if you're a fan of Rebels,
but it's not that accessible if you're not. I
don't think they do a good enough job of establishing
these people as characters independently of you
knowing about Rebels. And of course, we didn't
even mention everybody's favorite, the lightsaber
stabbing Sabine and she survives. I think they
did a good enough job covering for that. Yeah,
it's still it still reminds you of the fact that
it's a very short point and That was my big problem
with this last episode was when you reduce the
lightsaber to being kind of more of a trivial
annoyance It's hard to get like it's hard to
get worked up about those battles. Yeah, that's
like Oh, no, you'll be stabbed through the center
mass and be mildly inconvenienced I Just I I
so I'm going to three. Yeah, I don't think it's
terrible. I don't think it's fantastic, right?
Am right there with you. I was oh wow. I was
almost going to give it a three and a half only
because of the the chopper Yes, you did Wow,
I really thought this is cuz you're big a cook.
You're a big Ahsoka fanboy. I thought I really
thought you'd do higher like and I wouldn't I
wouldn't fault you like cuz you've seen rebels
You are the target audience. Yeah I think it's
a three because of the fact that it's only the
first four episodes. Yes, there is a lot of story.
A lot of story. What? What? I hate that excuse.
People have an opinion about the first episode.
I understand that you need to see things in the
bigger picture, but it's like by four episodes
in of an eight episode series, man. You know
which way the wind's blowing. Even Andor! Shit
happens by episode four! Like, even Andor! Like,
everyone complains that the first two episodes
are kind of like, they drag, and eeeh! If you
grew up before MTV and you have patience, it's
not that bad. But like, shit happens by episode
four! Gosh darn it! Okay, so the reason why I'm
giving the first four episodes a three overall
is because There are some negative points to
it. There are a lot of positive points. There
are a lot of things I liked At the end of the
day I want to get to the thing the story the
whatever and this is a Progressive look at how
we get there. So we have this cliffhanger at
the end of episode four that basically has me
on the edge of my seat because I've always wanted
to see that character, especially after watching
all of Clone Wars and listening to Matt Lanter's
voice as the character, listening to Ashley Eckstein's
voices. and all of that I want to see them interact
in live action so that's but again I understand
that there are other prevalent issues with the
first four episodes like sometimes the story
may drag or sometimes it may be too slow that's
fine I can overlook them like nothing in the
first four episodes is maybe like like hold on
give me a second here oh that went down too fast
like I'm not gonna Slam my bottle down or my
whatever down and say yeah screw this show So
nothing in the first four episodes has made me
feel that way at the same time I see certain
things that It's they're not all gems and they
all can't always be gems. It would be great if
they were but they can't be But I'm still very
excited to see the next four episodes Okay, so
that's that's where I fall I guess my thing is
like if they did a show about boss who is my
favorite character Yes, like it could be garbage
and it would get five stars every episode. It
would be Because they're doing my boy. Yeah,
he's live -action like unless unless they clown
him because every time boss appears in any media
They always make him stupid they wharf him. He's
always like he's the big tough guy who always
gets like knocked down and humiliated so So I'm
always like looking like if they ever did a show
where boss actually like kind of comes off as
cool Even if the rest of the show is garbage
no matter how many people got stabbed with lightsabers
and got better Like no matter how many porgs
are there. I don't care. I would love that show
Actually, I would love it more reports, but I
would love that show to pieces because it's my
boy boss So long as he's not humiliated like
it would be the best show in the history of forever
Absolutely All right, folks, so I think that's
going to do it for us. Any final anythings from

podcast over there as well as joining the toy
world order fans group That's the best way for
you to see what Dave is up to and what kind of
opinions he's giving online Next time because
we have to wait a couple of weeks Because we
have to wait for the episodes to go out so next
time Uh, what was originally going to be this
episode is going to be the next episode. Steve
and I are going to be back and we are going to
wrap up the nineties movies with the Schumacher
Batman films. I swear I did not plan this whatsoever.
I did not plan us having that conversation. And
then, so yes, Steve and I are going to do that.
Uh, we will then be doing the Dark Knight trilogy
and then something else. I forget what else after
that, but for now, well, wouldn't it be Batman
versus Superman and the Batman? There's two more
films with that feature batman heavily, you know
You're doing the whole batman thing. Yeah Did
you do the 60s batman sometimes to get rid of
a bomb? No We started with we started with burton
We started with burton we're going to film this
reaction to the 60s batman. Yes, I know uh steve
is so i'm Nine years younger than you Steve is
six years younger than I am So I don't think
he really has the interest in the 60s I'm perfectly
fine covering the 60s Batman at some point It's
just not what we started with because he loves
Michael Keaton I love Michael Keaton and that's
what we started with so we were going forward
from the 80s I don't disagree. I love keep the
Keaton Batman is my Batman, but I still just
get you sir You can tisk all you want old man
For now, I'm TF2 and Mike with... David Draper.
You'll hear us back in the studio soon. No, I
did not go through your stuff did you look under
the backup battery
No chapter markers for this episode.
