STUDIO 2009
The Amazing Spider-Man Films Review

About this Episode
Hey, it's your friendly neighborhood Spider -Man
here, and I'm swinging by the Geekcast Radio
Network. In July, spiders crawl there, July 3rd,
2012, ten years ago. The Amazing Spider -Man
hit the big screens. I was 32 years old at that
time, and I think you were 26. And I don't remember
if I saw this in theaters or not. I think I saw
the first one in theater. I know I didn't. I
know I have not seen the second one until just
right before this recording. So the first one,
though, I do not remember. whether I saw it in
theaters or not. And I can't even go back in
my movie stub collection to look to see because
I'm pretty sure I didn't see this in theaters.
But that's right, folks. You're here inside the
studio 2009 only on the GeekCaster network as
we talk about the web double shot. How did you
get out there? Fire escape. It's 20 stories.
Your doorman's intimidating. Tell us a little
bit about yourself, Mr. Parker. Not much to tell,
really. Peter lives with his aunt and uncle.
Did you catch that spider guy yet? No, but we
will. This guy wears a mask like an outlaw. I
think he's trying to do something maybe the police
can't. Can't? You know, if you're gonna steal
cars, don't dress like a car thief. You a cop?
You seriously think I'm a cop in a skin -tie
red -and -blue suit? Who are you? I know it's
been rough for you, Peter. I forgot all about
that thing. It was your dad's. Your father was
a very secretive man, Peter. Dr. Clunters. I'm
Richard Parker's son. Your father and I were
gonna change the lives of millions, including
mine. Extraordinary. How did you come up with
this? There's a rumor of a new species in New
York. You can be aggressive if threatened. I
gotta stop him because I created him. of New
York's finest versus one guy in a unit art. If
you want the truth, Peter, come and get it. I
am issuing an arrest warrant for the masked vigilante
known as Spider -Man. I'm in trouble. Both films
directed by Mark Webb and starring Andrew Garfield
as Peter Parker's Spider -Man. He's more Parker
than Spider -Man, I feel. I agree. He is a better
Peter Parker than a Spider -Man. Yeah. Whereas
I felt Toby was a better Spider -Man than a Peter
Parker. Yeah, yeah. Re -watching this first movie,
I like it. I think it's good. I think it was
right in that whole era of, I mean, we've always
been in an era of, we must restart this for everybody
and tell the origin story for the non -geeks
out there. And that's fine. I don't even know
what was going on in 2012 when this came out.
Oh, man. My kid was born. Well, there you go.
That ear. Your oldest, right? Yep, my first.
Yep. Yay, there you go. Steve was a little too
busy to watch Spider -Man, folks. No, I'm not
in theater. No, I know. But I'm just trying to
think, like, 2012 comic book movies, 2012, like...
Oh, Avengers, duh. Oh, yeah, I saw that in theater,
too. Oh, yeah, I remember seeing Avengers in
theaters. I went with booth booth ninja. I remember
you telling us about it. Yeah, and yeah the amazing
spider -man What I like about this one is it's
it tells the origin story But it tells it from
a very different perspective than the classic
comic book version these two movies Combine a
lot of the old animated series stuff Because
we start with Richard Parker, Peter Parker's
father. And you know, his top secret things with
the government and all that and everything else.
So you have Richard and Mary Parker, which I
thought was a cool way to like, you know, showing
their. How they died and all that and everything
else. I thought that was cool and fun and interesting
and different, a different way to. Show the origin
story and then we do get the classic of Peter
and Uncle Ben arguing and then Peter Let's a
criminal go instead of not stop. Well, I mean
it's still the same thing It's just it's in a
convenience store this time instead of the sporting
arena than it was in the classics The one thing
I noticed in this movie. I'm pretty sure nobody
said with great power comes great responsibility
I don't think it's in there at all. I think it
might. So this whole plot revolves around Peter
finding out that his father worked with Dr. Kurt
Connors. And they were doing all kinds of stuff
with cross species genetics. And of course this
also leads to Oz Corp and Norman Osborne and
Harry Osborne and that was the other thing I
found interesting with these two films is that.
Norman, at least in this film, he's alive at
one point and then he's not. And then the rest
of it, between this film and the second film,
it's Harry and Peter. It has nothing to do with
the classic Norman Osborn, Green Goblin. So I
thought that was interesting. What else did you
find interesting about this first movie? The
dynamics plus the fact that he wasn't with an
MJ. That's the other classic thing here is this
is the Gwen Stacy story. Which was nice to see
that angle because they started to do it in Spider
-Man 3. Yeah. And then it kind of just, it just
blew over. Yeah, it didn't. So seeing it happen
here was kind of different. And it wasn't, I
didn't dislike the movie. I liked Dennis Leary's
character of playing Captain Stacy. Yeah, that
wasn't like... I don't remember what Captain
Stacy was like in the comics, because I don't
think I've read that far back yet, but that was
an interesting casting choice and it absolutely
works. Oh, yeah, he plays that role really well.
The other thing that I noticed about this one
is something that I'm glad they tackled it here.
Mechanical web shooters. Mm hmm. Yay. Although
that's a funny gimmick in the The no way home.
Yep. Yeah, I figured it would be I mean that's
just an easy way to to do that and Yeah, it is
what it is I overall I enjoyed this again. I
Like really did not remember seeing this so I
Enjoy the story. I love that Gwen automatically
not like There's no hiding it. There's no sneaking
around. There's no nothing You know, it's just
she knows she's in on it and it works Plus she's
too smart for it. Well true very very true What
else do we want to say about the what did you
think of the effects in this one? Definitely
a lot better than the previous spider -man trilogy.
Yeah however The effects -wise, great. I did
not like the villain, but that was because I
just find the lizard to be creepy. Yeah, I kind
of agree with you there. Well, the lizard is
creepy and he was very creepy in this. I mean,
even Spidey regrowing the whole thing in the
high school with the tail. He pulls the tail
off of him and he regrows a tail and the pulled
-off tail does all kinds of weird wacky things
to him while, while Librarian Stan Lee, may ye
rest in peace, Stan Lee, but that was Stan's
cameo this time around. He was playing music
with headphones on in the library. So that was
interesting to see Stan do the cameo here. Uh,
yeah, I mean. The effects are what the effects
are I mean for 2012 effects had come a long way
and I think they were done very very well and
I think they were using the whole dual villain
because I mean Connors is and isn't the villain
the lizard part of his brain is the villain He's
not and then you have Harry who eventually becomes
Green Goblin So two villains still that's that's
okay that's fine it's nothing compared to what
will get. Next time and what they were actually
planning on doing which that would have been
crazy this would be crazy awesome to see on screen
i don't know if. The mcu will do what they were
hoping to do originally here but. Yeah no amazing
spider man i really dug it i thought it was cool.
Interesting note though. Emma Stone, who plays
Gwen Stacy. She, the actress, also acted with
another Kurt Connors. So, and most people may
or may not know this. A lot of people haven't
seen the series, but there was a short -lived
series in 2007 on Fox called Drive. It was six
episodes. It was a blink and you miss it kind
of thing. But the original doctor kirk connors
from the remy films dylan baker plays her father
in that six episode television series nice. Yeah
cuz i was like wait a minute i've heard that
voice before i've seen that face before i know
it's emma stone but where's the spidey connection
where all right two thousand sevens drive very
cool very cool. And this was was this the first
time a sony superhero film used a mid credit
scene. Maybe because i remember it teased a lot
of his villains. Yeah so the mid credit scene
in this is basically connor speaking with a man
in shadows and this always pissed me off even
in twenty twelve. Because speaks in chat as if
Peter knows the truth about his father Connors
doesn't know and demands that Peter be left alone
before the man disappears and Even back then
I'm like, that's the mid credit scene and they're
obviously trying to set up something But they
have not set it up. So yeah, and I'm just kind
of looking through here on On IMDB and I do not
see with great power comes great responsibility
under the quotes I mean, hey, if they don't want
to include it, they don't want to include it.
And that's the other thing that was cool is the
twist up of Uncle Ben's, uh, like his, like how
he was able, like leaving the voicemail instead
of being able to actually have a conversation
with Peter, which happened in the Remy trilogy.
Anything else you want to say about this one?
Anything I missed? Anything that we haven't gone
over? I don't think so. I mean, I definitely
felt it was more. More modern movie. Just based
on effects compared to the previous Spider -Man
trilogy. Yeah. And it felt darker. It felt. Yeah,
you had some lighter moments and to some degree,
I would argue that it was better. And not only
effects, because I mean, going back to the Remy
trilogy, Spider -Man jumping off the building
in the first movie was pretty. hilariously bad
when he first learned to leap. But here, it felt
more like a movie instead of more real, if that
makes any sense. Yeah. Whereas the Raimi trilogy
felt more like real life with Spider -Man. And
this felt more like just a blockbuster movie.
Yeah. I think it's more of because again, you
have to switch up this like you can't just cut
in pace because they weren't trying to tell I
mean they have all the classic story bits in
there with Uncle Ben and Aunt May and all that
and and everything else but like I said there's
no MJ there's Gwen instead and Gwen knows as
she should and and all that and I found the cast
of this one really interesting though like I
completely forgot Mama Gump, Sally Field was
May Parker in this. And Martin Sheen as Uncle
Ben, I did not remember that at all. And I didn't
have a problem with that casting or with Gwen
or with Captain Stacy or even to some degree,
Andrew Garfield bothered me, but not for the
reasons you might expect. Like not, not because
it wasn't Toby, but because it was just. A different
rendition, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Yeah.
And, but looking at, looking at like the Oscorp.
You know, Harry Osborn and Norman just didn't
really do it for me. Well, and again, I mean,
Harry, I can see why it's not exactly. Oscar
performance i will give it up to norman a little
seeing is how they had him on his deathbed here
that is actor chris cooper. Chris cooper was
the guy who was in the and i'm speaking slowly
because i'm trying to remember what the hell.
I know it was a great expectations but there
was a movie series that he was in the yellow.
He was in Muppets. He was the evil dude in the
Muppets with, um, oh, the, the, the... Maniacal
laugh. Maniacal laugh. Maniacal laugh. Maniacal
laugh. It was, it's that guy. Oh. Yeah. So with,
with Snedley or Nedley or whatever, whatever
the Muppets name is, he played the evil theater
owner. In the muppets but there was another movie
where i believe. Was it the born films i think
he was in one of the jason born films i'm just
trying to think of movies that you would know
that i know that he's been in. Andrew garfield
is as pete is great i just don't think the best
spider man scene he had in this film. Is that
very first guy he catches the criminal where
he's like webbing him up and doing the web shooter
thing to him against the wall and then he's like
oh here shut up any you know web's his mouth
i think that was his best spidey stuff yeah the
rest of it. It's all peter parker and i agree
i really like before this the only thing i had
ever seen andrew garfield in was the social network
with jesse eisenberg as mark zuckerberg and he
played. Eduardo Savarin, so this is the second
film that I had seen him in at the time. Amazing
Spider -Man 2012. This actually came out two
months after The Avengers. The Avengers hit on
May 4th, so the Avengers took Spider -Man's may
the fourth be with you slot. That's funny. All
right, we're gonna take a quick break and come
back with the amazing spider -man 2 after this
Like science fiction, of course you do or you

Every day I wake up knowing that the more people
I try to save, the more enemies I will make.
And it's just a matter of time before I face
those with more power than I can overcome. I'm
so sorry I'm late. I had a traffic thing. Did
your traffic jam have anything to do with being,
I don't know, shot at by machine guns? Yeah,
yeah. Oh, that was implied. That was implying
that. Peter Park. Barry Osborn. You're going
to want to see this. Oscorp. And you under surveillance.
Why? Isn't that the question of the day? There's
something you're not telling me, Aunt May. I
once told you this. Secrets have a cost. The
truth does too. My name is Richard Parker. I
have discovered what Oscorp was going to use
my research for. I have a responsibility to protect
the world from what I know they're capable of.
What is all this? The future. We literally can
change the world. What about Peter? Not everyone
has a happy ending. This is bigger than you,
Peter. I made a choice. This is my path. Soon
everyone in the city will know how it feels to
live. And it is time for The Amazing Spider -Man
2. In this one, we get more, again, because this
is a sequel, we get more of the Richard Parker
recording the video message to explain his disappearance
and all that. And then we jump to the present
day. Present day, two years after his battle
with Dr. Kirk Connors. So we have Spider -Man
apprehending this criminal, Oleski... I can't
even pronounce him. He's gonna eventually be
the Rhino. Oh, Paul Giamatti. Yeah, Paul Giamatti's
character. We see Peter having reservations about
the relationship with Gwen because of what happened
at the end of the first movie of him promising
Captain Stacy that he would stay away from her
and you know all of that Gwen actually Ends the
relationship after graduation and Then Harry
Osborn returns to Manhattan to see his terminally
ill father Norman Uh, you know, basically die.
And you also have Max Dillon. Electro. And he
was such a, like they gave him the stereotypical
nerd. It was just, I don't know, it was kind
of off -putting. Yeah. Like the glasses and the
almost like Steve Urkel -ism. It's like, okay,
this is like not even. The definition of a nerd
by today's standards. Yeah, it was so so played
out and stupid And the funny thing is is oh that's
why what that is that explains everything Jamie
for Jamie Fox. No What look who it's written
by? Oh Yes, we will get to that. Yeah We will
get to that in about five seconds here. So I
wanted to make sure, and I know they wouldn't
do this, but I know Electro from 1994's Spider
-Man the Animated Series, where he was played
by the Red Skull's son. So I did not know about
the Maxwell Dillon character. There is also Francine
Fryer. But yes, since you... This is why I didn't
like this movie. I couldn't figure it out until
just now. There was still something that just
bothered me with it, like how badly it was written.
Yes. And it explains a lot. Everything. It's
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orsi. And it seems
like everything they touched around that time
was garbage. When they did the Star Trek reboot,
the first one, okay, the first one was good.
I'll give it that. The second one was utter trash.
And then they had nothing to do with the third
one and it was good. But because the second one
was trash, it ruined the reputation of the third
one. And they're also the same ones that wrote
the Transformers movies up to a certain point.
And they wrote the rebooted Mummy movie, which
is why it sucks. Yeah, a lot of their... I will
say specifically for Alex, the only thing, and
I don't know if Roberto was on this... Roberto
kind of dropped off the face of the map after
late 2017. Yeah. But Alex... He wrote Mission
Impossible 3, which was actually a really good
Mission Impossible movie, and then the first
Transformers, and then obviously, like you said,
Star Trek. Well, and he did Revenge of the Fallen,
the Cowboys and Aliens, and it was the same guys
partnered together until 2017, and then they
split. Yep. And some of those movies that they
have on their credentials, okay, I liked Eagle
Eye, I liked The Island. I liked the first Star
Trek and the first Transformers, but other than
that, Now You See Me was okay. I didn't mind
that. Yeah, I like Now You See Me. I like both
of those. But Kurtzman, funny enough, he's got
his hands in the Star Trek pie. Oh, yeah. Which
is why I don't really like any of the new stuff.
Well, that kind of explains to me now because
I you're the Trekkie I'm not that should be established
on this show if it hasn't already been already
and Like I'm scrolling down Wikipedia and I'm
like, oh no wonder Steve doesn't like any of
the Discovery or in this is the funny thing though
Discovery is terrible. Like he's director writer
executive producer creator The short tracks didn't
much care for those either, but he didn't write
them all or direct them all. Picard, he didn't
write them. He's the executive producer, but
the show was still pretty crap. Strange New Worlds,
he actually doesn't have anything to do with
it, even though it says writer and everything.
It was created by the other guy. He's the executive
producer, but he actually is executive producer
only on Lower Decks and Prodigy, which are animated,
and those are the best ones. Yes, Transformers
Prime was good for what it was, but again, I
feel like the animation stuff did fared better
with them at the helm than any of their live
action stuff. Their live action stuff is absolute
garbage. The Strange New Worlds is actually kind
of a Kiva Goldsmiths baby, which is why it's
actually good. He wanted to get back to episodic
Trek and he was kind of listening to the fans
and he has an in with with CBS Paramount And
so that's created by him Kurtzman and then this
Jenny Lumet Lumet Which I don't know who that
is, but But anyways Akiva wanted Strange new
worlds, which is why that's the only bearable
to watch live -action Trek show Yeah, but yeah,
I don't know I'm Pretty much anything Hertzman
touches, I just have this bad taste in my mouth
automatically because I know that he's going
to bastardize whatever it is. I've been rewatching
Alias because Alias is one of my favorite shows
and Alias had other writers besides him on it.
But just that whole thing, that's my... One,
J .J. Abrams thing that I absolutely love all
the way through all five seasons of it, but yeah.
Back to this film. Yes, back to this film. I
didn't mind Jamie Foxx. I really didn't like
The Goblin. Yeah. It was an interesting take,
but I really didn't like it. Paul Giamatti was
kind of a cliff note. you know, to bookend it.
Yeah. And, okay, I actually would have preferred
more of him and less of Goblin or less of Electro.
What I like about this film is what it tries
to set up. It tries to lead them into the Sinister
Six. I think that was a good, like, yes, have
the Electro story. I like that those were all
experiments of Oscorp. Yeah, yeah, exactly. And
I like the angle of Richard Parker and his, you
know, his whole scientific, his whole science
aspect. And then, you know, basically infusing
Peter with the, you know, having the specialized
blood that's only tailored to that spider, you
know, that he's the only one that was able to
partake of it. That's the other interesting thing
that they did with this film and the first film
is that At first I thought they were just gonna
straight copy the title sequence from the from
the Sam Raimi trilogy they don't know and I like
that but with these spiders and how the discovery
of what Richard Parker was working on I like
all of that visual. I like that kind of spiders
frozen in time kind of visual thing. And yeah,
the one thing I noticed that he doesn't have
in this. Like, yes, he has super strength. He
has fast reflux. They don't say anything about
spider sense. They don't do anything with spider
sense. I don't know if that was because they
didn't want to bring it up or didn't want to,
and that's fine. not saying a peter parker spider
man doesn't have to have spider sense but. At
first in the beginning of this movie in the beginning
of the last movie when he first gets his parents
i'm like oh the quick reflexes it's because spider
sense but they never showed us any spider sense
so my okay then maybe he doesn't have the spider
sense and that's fine. Like i said i like the
mechanical web shooters i like how much this
one reminds me. of episodes of the old 90s animated
series because of very little. Hello, Sinister
Six right there. You got it right there. It's
on the on the cusp of being a thing. And then
it went away. Yeah, sadly, the. Electro thing,
it was goofy. I liked how they did play into
the music. Yes, sound with the electrical aspect,
which was nice. But other than that, I didn't
really care for him. Yeah. I didn't find... First
of all, Max is more self -deprecating than I
am on my own self half the time. You hear me
say every episode, I'm a 14 years of crappy podcasting
from TFD1 Mike. I know it's technically not true,
but like this guy, this character, and I don't
know if he's always been this way in the comics
or whatever else, but like he's like, oh, you
noticed like he goes from being so negative about
himself to, oh, Spider -Man saved me. We're now
best friends. I must stop Spider -Man. Don't
go to don't go from one extreme to the other.
Like, come on, but. I just couldn't connect with
his, like, I'm so glad, I'm so glad that even
with this being a curtsy, Ortsman or Ortsman
-Curcy thing, it didn't rely on quoting a different
franchise when Electro got the power. We don't
need Jamie Foxx quoting Emperor Palpatine Please
and thank you and thankfully they didn't do that.
But other than that the effects in this I absolutely
love I thought it was great One of the I mean
what we've seen electricity in films before and
we've seen it in other films just in general
and I think it looks really good here. I don't
know if it was because Andrew was a I don't want
to say he's a bad Spider -Man but I don't remember
a not like he yes he does web swing in these
two movies but not as much as we saw Toby doing
I don't think he did more of the crawling around
and kind of leaping and yeah that was that was
this yeah yeah that okay so what they did was
they they took yes he does do web swinging I'm
not saying he doesn't They took that though and
then divvied it up amongst everything else because
what he does have in this is what something that
Toby's didn't. Impact webbing I love that. Where
he just shoots little web balls at you and they
explode sort of kind of so instead of just webbing
somebody up. You create this web ball just shoot
it right at him bing bing bing bing bing just
absolutely love that one overall it's not. The
worst Spider -Man set of films. It's just different.
That's all it is. And there are plenty of things
to like and dislike about these two films, just
as there are plenty of things to dislike in part
one when we talked about the Toby films. Yeah.
And I didn't like how they killed. Norman. Gwen.
Oh, yes. The god. That was like so that was so
like heartbreaking to watch. You mean her father?
Or did she die too? She died too. She died because
of the dream. Oh, that's right. That's right.
Yep, yep, yep, yep. Oh, right. Friggin' Harry.
That's right. I just watched this a day or two
ago, folks. My memory is mush. I watched it two
months ago. But, yeah, I was like, oh, that's
horrible. And then he has to like live with it
and like so like he's you know you could you
could feel the depression. Yeah oh yeah Gwen's
death yeah so that okay so that's what I like
I don't like the fact that the character died
but it showed him having to deal with a real
trauma with the plot point and trauma with him
being guilt -ridden and depressed over her death.
Peter ends his career as spider -man and he's
you know a little boy Going up against the Rhino
and then he's like he's like I can't let this
kid do this. I Love that that scene. I Really?
He's like all right. I got it. I can take it
from here. I love that that That was a great
ending And then he used the manhole covers and
went after the rhino. Yep. And then it ended.
Yep. But I loved, I mean, we'll talk about that
when we get to it, but he was able to redeem
himself. Yes. Later. Yes. Yeah, we'll talk about
that in a month or so, I think, at this point.
So, let's see, I think we are going to rate both
films. What would you rate the first one, zero
to five? I would give it a four. Okay, I am also
going to... I'm trying to think. I'll give it
a four too. I was gonna take a half point off
because... Lizard just kind of like the whole
limbs coming off thing. Yeah, I'll give it a
pass on the other aspects Yeah, because the rest
of it was good. Yeah, the lizard was my least
Favorite aspect of the film even though it's
the biggest part of the film Yeah, I felt like
the rest of it kind of Redeemed it. Yep For the
second film I am probably going to give it a
moderate Three and a half maybe three out of
five because I like Like, overall, between the
two of them, I like what they did in differentiate,
as I already said about the mechanical web shooters,
the this, the that, the whatever, all the good
things I like. But at the same time, the negatives
still are there. So I'll stick with three and
a half out of five. I'll probably give it a three
just because I didn't like some of the multitude
of villains that showed up. how they were used.
There were aspects that I liked, which were Spider
-Man and Gwen and then his evolution once that
came to an end. But on a whole, I'd have to give
it a three just because they killed Gwen and
just the way that the rest of it went down. And
Harry was just annoying and it was just, I don't
know, it was worse than the lizard to me at that
point. I mean, they did and they didn't set up
his and Pete's relationship. Because most of
the first film, he's off in boarding school or
whatever. And then he comes back in the in the
second one. Dane Dehaan is the guy who played
him. Now I'm looking at Dane Dehaan's filmography
on IMDB. Chronicle, Kill Your Darlings, Amazing
Spider -Man 2, Place Beyond the Place. Like this
is the first time I've ever seen this actor is
in Amazing Spider -Man 2. Yep. I do not recognize.
I mean. I never watched True Blood on HBO, so
I would never know his Timbo character. In Treatment
was a TV series apparently back in 2010, but
he was in one episode of Law and Order SVU in
2008, and I don't even remember that episode
off the top of my head. But yeah, he's currently
in the TV miniseries The Staircase, which I believe
that's... Oh, that's the Peterson. I don't care
about that. There's so many different, and this
is completely off topic, but it's on topic. It's
not necessarily about him, but the staircase
refers to the Lacey Peterson, you know, murder
case and all that. I've seen so many different
made for TV and actual documentaries on that
case. I don't ever want to see that case. anything
to do with that case ever again. May the woman
rest in peace, but because it's horrible that
her husband killed her. Anyway, we're gonna take
a quick break, come back to close the show with
some canceled film projects and potential revival
and just closing out the show after this. Because
the world needs another movie podcast. The Geekcast

Bottom line is, if you love movies and love podcasts,
you need to experience The Cinema Geeks. You
can find us on iTunes, You know what it is I
love about being Spider -Man? Everything. On
the Simplistic Reviews podcast, we talk movies.
We talk TV. We talk hello Julie. What the heck
are you doing trying to make our spot sound more
exciting by adding explosions? Yeah, I'm pretty
sure you could have got the point across with
sound effects not the real thing Download the
show on iTunes or if simplistic reviews dot blog
spot dot com I'm sure your insurance company
will cover that no they won't no they probably
won't we are back here inside studio 2009 The
Amazing Spider -Man, the Mark Webb double -shot
directed films. There are a lot of good things
in there, plenty of things that I probably won't
watch these films again in a long time, if I
ever do. These are not... I mean, even when we
did the Remy trilogy, that was the first time
I had gone back really to do it since we did
the original M -Wire episode in 2009, so... These
two films I probably won't rewatch and there
were a couple of cancelled things and then obviously
we have to talk about the provincial revival.
Sony had originally intended the film to launch
an expansive film universe around Spider -Man
to compete with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Good thing those plans fell through there, huh
Sony? Yep, I think Disney made him some money.
The third film was supposed to have a potential
release date of June 10th, 2016, and Kurtzman
and Orsi, along with Jeff Pinkner, were returning
to write on a fourth film with a release date
of May 4th, 2018. So we would have had Spider
-Man films all throughout the 2010s if this had
happened. There was rumors, or there was also
a clue to spin off films for Sinister Six and
Vetam. Well, we got the Vetam films. Say what
you will about those. Yeah, I didn't watch them.
I watched the first one. It was okay. I didn't
have interest in it. This is a totally different
episode and a different topic, but I don't care
to watch movies about villains. Yeah like it
to be honest i would prefer it like if i'm gonna
watch a movie it's gonna be about a good guy
kicking the bad guy. The one thing and i hope
marvel does eventually do this but the one thing
that we would have gotten out of this. Sinister
six part one was planned for november eleventh.
Twenty sixteen additionally by august twenty
fourteen sony had hired lisa joy. to write a
script for a 2017 female -led film starring Felicia
Hardy, a .k .a. Black Cat. I would love to see
a Black Cat film because technically she isn't
really a villain. She's kind of an anti -hero.
Yeah, she's. Yeah. So. So, yeah. And then obviously
the MCU with what's coming up next month with
with us getting into part three in our summer
of Spider -Man finale with the the Tom Holland
films. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures co -production
Spider -Man No Way Home released in 2021 and
all that and there have been a bunch of things
following the events of ASM2 and No Way Home.
He's still haunted by his inability to save Gwen
Stacy from her fall and ends up obviously saving
MJ. No way home. So here's hoping that you know,
whatever they end up doing in the Marvel Cinematic
Universe, it's Who knows we may get a sinister
six film. I think that's their plan because when
I I could be I don't I When I saw though because
again, I did not remember like I know you guys
or somebody covered I know Kevin and Dan and
there were three shows that covered that yeah
that really really I don't remember watching
Amazing Spider -Man 2 for that podcast, for those
releases. So when I was watching this again and
I saw the Sinister Six stuff and I'm like, oh,
well, for 2014 standards, this all looks great.
Like, seriously, let's see what it is in 2024,
2028, or whenever it happens, if it happens.
