Mike The Birdman

Hello, and welcome to the TFG1 Podcast supplemental

episode for the all -cartoon episode, recorded

January 30th, 2009. My name is Michael Blanchard,

and I will be your host. In this supplemental

episode, I will be discussing all things cartoon.

from stuff from the 60s, 70s, and 80s to the

90s cartoons to the cartoons of today. I will

be joined by Mike the Birdman Dodd from This

Week in Geek and Stephen C. Phillips of FredaconEmpire

.com in two separate clips. Please tune in. from

the cartoons that we discussed from way back

when from the 1960s to the 1980s. Have a listen.

From days of long ago, from uncharted regions

of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of

Voltron, defender of the universe. A mighty robot,

loved by good, feared by evil. As Voltron's legend

grew, peace settled across the galaxy. On planet

Earth, a galaxy alliance was formed. Together

with the good planets of the solar system, they

maintained peace throughout the universe. Until

a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy.

Voltron was needed once more. This is the story

of the super force of Space Explorers. Specially

trained and sent by the Alliance to bring back

Voltron, Defender of the Universe. Transformers,

robots in disguise. Transformers. joined by Mike

the Birdman Dodd from This Week in Geek and all

the other crap that he does. Unfortunately, because

of scheduling conflicts, there will be two different

clips in this supplemental all -cartoon episode,

just as there were in the TFG1 podcast episode

4. So, hello, Mike. Hey, how's it going, man?

It's going. You won't sound too good, buddy.

Are you alright? Oh, actually, yeah. I just kind

of realized how much I kind of do sound like

shit, actually. Wow. In this, I wanted to do

this from hearing a couple of other podcasts

do it, and I just put together a giant list,

and I picked top ten of, like, back then, like,

from 60s to the 80s, and then top ten, like,

most recent years, like, from 90s until now,

and then I did two lists of top five honorable

mentions of each one of them. Just because you're

under time constraints, I'm just going to...

go through the lists and we can just talk about

them as we, as they go along. Um, let's see my

top 10 all time back then would be number 10

would be Garfield and friends. Nine is a mask.

Eight is Looney Tunes. Seven is Tom and Jerry.

Six is a pup named Scooby -Doo. Five is Thundercats.

Four is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Three is

Voltron. Two is He -Man and She -Ra. Yes, I cheated.

I picked two. And number one, of course, is Transformers.

What would yours be for all time back then? For

all time back then, I was flexing my timelines

a little bit more recent -ish. I went with HBO's

Spawn as my number ten. Duckman, which I think

was done by the USA Network. Yes, it was. Transformers

Generation 1. Animaniacs. Fox's Dog City. Never

heard of it. Really good show. Really funny,

too. Goof Troop. Darkwing Duck. Ninja Turtles.

Spider -Man, the animated series that was done

by Fox. Yep. And my number one all -time back

then cartoon was the X -Men cartoon in the 90s.

Once again, by Fox. Yeah, yeah. Actually, there

was a news item on TV shows on DVD .com yesterday

that Disney apparently has fessed up to owning

the rights to X -Men, and they are releasing

two volumes on DVD of the cartoon. It's not known

what episodes are going to be on it, on each

volume, but it's going to be released, I think,

in April. I think it's April 28th. Well, about

goddamn time. It's funny people are saying that,

and I understand that, but I looked on the U

.K. version of Amazon, and they actually have

Season 1, Volume 1 and Volume 2. You can import

them. I don't know how good they are or not,

but, yeah. I wish that they would just do complete

series with those shows, like with X -Men and

Spider -Man and Iron Man. All the other Marvel

cartoons I never really got into. Like, I could

not. I hate the Hulk. The Hulk was pretty fucking

stupid. It fucking sucked. I wasn't a huge fan

of the Fantastic Four one either. I didn't like

that either. Reed Richards was goofy. Well, you

know, it was the 90s. My top ten all -time recent

years cartoons. Number ten was The Adventures

of Super Mario Bros. 3. Nine is Batman Beyond.

Oops, that says R. That's not supposed to say

R. Number eight is Darkwing Duck. Number seven

is Animaniacs. Number six is Tiny Turn Adventures.

Number five is The Legend of Zelda. Number four

is Batman The Animated Series. Number three is

Spider -Man. Two is X -Men. And again, I cheated.

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited,

considering they are basically the same show,

even though they were released at two different

DVD releases. What would yours be for... for

recent, well, you kind of mix -mashed them, but

do you have a separate list? Yes. Now, for mine,

I had X -Men Evolution. I thought, I wasn't a

huge fan of the animation style, but I thought

a lot of the voice acting was absolutely top

-notch. The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

cartoon, I thought that was actually surprisingly

good. This is a cartoon you may not have heard

of. I saw it on Teletoon in Canada, and this

might have been on MTV Animation. I think it

was called The Oblongs. I've heard of it, but

I don't think I've ever actually watched it.

It was surprisingly decent, actually. Then I

went with The Mr. Hell Show. I know I've never

heard of that. That's a Canadian thing right

there. No, that's actually UK, actually. Okay,

well, it was something that wasn't released here

as far as I know. It was on Comedy Central, but

it was on at really, really weird hours. Oh.

South Park. The Boondocks. Yep. Dilbert. Spy

Groove, which was surprisingly cool, actually.

I've never heard of that. Then there was another

show called Zero Man, which is pure Canadian,

which features Leslie Nielsen, Ron McClain, Don

Cherry, and Ryan Reynolds as bad guys. Wow, that's

a weird voice cast. It was really weird. It was

tremendously stupid, but it was actually really

great, I thought. And then my number one all

-time recent years cartoons was, once again,

MTV Animation. which was the life of three or

four college kids, and it was fantastic. It is

a fucking tragedy. This series did not get picked

up for a second season. Yeah, I think I had seen

something about that show, but I never actually

watched it. I vaguely remember hearing the name,

but I mean, the most thing as far as, even though

it's not a cartoon, but the most thing I remember

MTV for recently anyway was Celebrity Deathmatch.

That was pretty funny, actually. Okay, now we're

going to go into honorable mentions, stuff that

just didn't make the top ten lists. My back then

list for top five is Jim and the Holograms, Don't

Give Me Shit. For some odd reason, I remember

this show. I remember watching it. I don't know.

That show was fucking cool. I loved it. I know.

Well, at first, when I first saw it, I was like,

my God, they made a show about strippers? Cool.

Number four is Silverhawks. Number three is G

.I. Joe. Both series that were out in the 80s.

I think Dick did a series and then somebody else.

I think there was a Sunbow series and a D .I

.C. series. Number two would be the Peanut Specials.

All of them, doesn't matter. which one it is,

Valentine's Day, whatever, Christmas, Thanksgiving,

Scrape Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, whatever. And

number one honorable mention for back then, which

I just actually realized, was Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Wow. I actually had to cheat, and I looked on

Steve's list that he sent me because I was racking

my brain before we got on Skype tonight trying

to think of what the hell I could put on the

honorable mentions. Wow. Well, going through

my list, it's a very eclectic list, and it took

me a really long time to figure a lot of these

out. My number five pick was a series called

Wish Kid, which was on CBS in the early 90s,

late 80s, featuring Macaulay Culkin in a voiceover

role. I remember watching that. It was like right

after Malone was released, wasn't it? Yep. And

then after that, there was the Central Organization

of Police Specialists, otherwise known as COPS.

Friggin' fantastic show. Never even heard of

it. Wow, you are pop culture illiterate. The

third one was the one that was based on the Ace

Ventura series, which was surprisingly well written,

I thought. No, I did see a few episodes of that.

And I thought it was better than the Mask cartoon.

But at the same time, I would have them as my

number three choice. The second one was one called

Kid and Play, which is more or less based on

the House Party movies. Yeah, I do remember those.

I mean, having a kid's cartoon based on R -rated

rappers who do nothing but smoke dope and drink

and... have sex with each other is a fabulous

idea for a Saturday morning vehicle. Well, the

only thing I remember about the House Party movies

is I remember at the end of the House Party 2's

trailer when one of the black guys comes up at

the very end before you see the information about

who's in the movie and goes, it's one o 'clock,

do you know where your testicles are? And then

my number one choice, this is a series I couldn't

find a whole lot on, but I loved it. It was called

Botsmaster. Do you know that? Do you know that

show? Nope. It was about a kid named Zip Zoolander.

I wish I was making this up. And he had an army

of robots that would help him defeat this other

bad guy, and they would do it using 3D glasses.

And there were different types of robots. There

was a street team, a construction team, and they

were like the Autobots, except they couldn't

transform. I was going to say, it sounds like

a generic, non -transforming version of Transformers.

More or less. I'd say that would be a fairly

good way to actually kind of put it in context.

Rip off. It was a great show. But it had 3D shit.

Now, another honorable mention I didn't get a

chance to put into any of my lists was Battletech.

Oh, really? Cool as shit, man. See, that's a

great universe. They need to bring that series

back. Yeah, my top five honorable mentions for

the most recent years. Number five is DuckTales.

And actually, the whole Disney afternoon block.

DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin, Goof Troop,

all that stuff was just great. The Hulk, which

even though I said before I can't stand it. It's

part of the Marvel Universe. Iron Man. Iron Man,

the first season that ran with that, when it

showed him putting the briefcase down and the

thing came down, after he steps into it, it actually

shows 3D animation of him putting the suit on,

and then it shows the regular animation that

it was on the series, and that was pretty cool.

Number two and number one, I didn't really watch

when they first came out. but they just have

to be mentioned. Number two is Powerpuff Girls,

and number one is Dexter's Lab. So, yeah, that's

my honorable mentions list. Going into mine,

my number five is King of the Hill. This series

has always had a fantastic narrative, and while

this series has been... kind of slow and plotting

at times. I thought the writing on the show has

always been really good, really well acted, and

I really think it deserves a second chance. I

mean, if you were a fan before, give it another

shot. It's still on. I mean, they are still doing

new episodes. It's going to end, though. Yeah,

but it's going to be ending this season, I think.

Oh, really? Supposedly. But a rumor has it ABC

picked it up, but I'm not 100 % sure. Oh. Going

into my number four choice, Robot Chicken. This

show is awesome. I'm actually interviewing one

of the writers of this show next week on Twitter.

And then Transformers Animated, I Can't Stand

the Show. But it's a new Transformers series,

and all things considered, it's introducing this

generation of kids to the robots in disguise.

And I still think it's better than robots in

disguise. I couldn't stand that one. See, like

I said to you the last time we did an episode,

when we did episode four together, I never watched

robots in disguise. I went from G1 to Beast Wars

to Beast Machines, and then now... I watched

about three or four episodes of Armada, Energon,

and Cybertron, and then I skipped right ahead

to animated. And I was actually watching a rerun

of animated the other day, and I just realized

how horrible that show is. You see how far the

mighty have fallen. Yeah, yeah. It's just fucking

terrible. Going into my number two choice. I

haven't seen a lot of this show. I've only ever

caught five minutes here and five minutes there.

But Sonic X. When I was still on my Fox Saturday

morning kick, when they still actually had good

Saturday morning cartoons, I first caught this

because I figured, oh, they're going to bring

Sonic back, like they had him with Adventures

of Sonic the Hedgehog, which isn't on any of

our lists. But anyway, so I started watching

it and watching it and watching it, and just

eventually, after a while, I just stopped getting

interested in anything that was on Fox on Saturday

mornings. Absolutely. It's just... It's basically

the slow decline of the Saturday morning cartoon

block. And that's really unfortunate because

you had a lot of really great, you had a lot

of really good Saturday morning blocks. You had

CBS's, you had NBC's for a while. And you even

had one. On the USA Network, which I can't recall

the name of right now. It was, oh crap. No, I

don't remember that on Saturday mornings, but

I do remember it on weekdays in the morning.

It started at like 6 o 'clock. It was USA's Morning

Express or something. It was some sort of, yeah,

it had some tie -in to an animated train. Yeah,

I remember that. I remember the Clifford cartoon

from that, the Defenders of the Planet and all

that stuff. And you know what's weird? Occasionally

you'd find really good blocks of cartoons in

the mornings on other stations. But I forgot

to tell you, my number one pick for a most recent

cartoon... Afro Samurai. Yeah, I had seen that

on your list, and I've heard of it. I've heard

of the video game, but I've never actually watched

it. I'm very picky with my animation styles.

I am very, very picky. Like right now, I am trying

to watch Batman the Brave and the Bold, but it

is no Batman the Animated Series. It is no Justice

League. It is not those creators that did that

show, even though some of the creators that did

those shows are on Batman the Brave and the Bold.

But it just... I just can't watch it. Batman

Brave and the Bold is giving the DC Universe

a kick in the balls. It's fucking Oswald from

Drew Carey. He has no business being Batman.

You know the only other thing I can think of

that he played in? Balls of Fury? No, I never

even saw that movie. Oh, you lucky fuck. It was

Office Space. He played Lawrence, the neighbor.

Peter, man, check out Channel 9, dude. This chick's

got some hot breasts over here, and it turns

out Channel 9 was the breast cancer channel.

You know what's amazing? The best part of Batman,

Brave and the Bold, is every time I leave the

room to go relieve myself. That's the best part

of any show. The only two things I do like about

it is I like how they redid the Batwing, and

I like how they did the Batmobile. Other than

that, that's it. But I see where they're going.

I see where Warner Brothers, and I see where

DC is going with it. They want, because everything

now is Silver Age comics. You got... The Superman

Doomsday movie, you got Batman Gotham Knight

movie, you have Justice League New Frontier movie,

which was directly taken out of the Silver Age

of Comics. I understand where they're going with

it. Do I like it? Fuck no. I would much rather

see them revisit any of those DC animated universe

shows, but whatever. I don't know. I'm not particularly

liking where this is all going. Actually, there's

one cartoon I forgot to mention. The new Spider

-Man animated series, I've seen two episodes,

and it's really freaking cool. I've seen three

or four, but for me it goes back to the animation

style. For me, I... I'll put it this way. I'm

basically stuck in a time warp. If it's not in

the same style as the original X -Men or the

original Spider -Man or, like I said, the DC

animated universe cartoons, I find it very hard

for me to watch. I'm kind of the same way. It's

so hard to break out of that established mold

of what you like and don't like. But it's something

going to be interesting anyway. And I like the

way they're going with it. So we're just going

to have to wait and see what happens when all

is said and done. Yeah, it's just, but I mean,

if you go back to shows, like I said, like X

-Men. X -Men, to me, now most people I've talked

to and whatever have said that the animation

really hasn't held up. See, I think it has. I

think so, totally. I mean, I really think that

the animation for Spider -Man, X -Men. Iron Man

has really held up over time. And I know for

a fact, Batman the Animated Series, that will

always hold up no matter what. The Nintendo cartoons,

which I had mentioned a couple of them, those

are really cool. I liked what Nintendo and I

believe it was Shout Factory is the one that

released those DVDs, but I don't know what, I

forget what channel they were on or who held

the rights to them. But Nintendo really did a

good thing back in those days, you know, making

animated series out of their games. really, really

cool. And, you know, Justice League and Justice

League Unlimited, that is the best animation

I have ever seen. It just does. I mean, just

the stuff that they did in those cartoons and

the storytelling and the voice acting was just

great. Looney Tunes, it... I recently had gotten

all of the Golden Collection DVD sets for Looney

Tunes and... Looney Tunes was not for kids. Looney

Tunes, the creators have said that they made

them for themselves. It's more of the same thing

with Peanuts. Peanuts is not for kids. It was

for adults, which is cool. You can kind of get

some of the subtext and plots now that we're

older and somewhat more wiser. Mask was one that

I remember watching, but I don't remember...

everything about the show i remember it was uh

what was his name matt tracker and a bunch of

his buddies with vehicles that that did a whole

bunch of special powers type they didn't i don't

think they transformed but it was there was one

of those vehicles i swear to god it was a gun

that shot other i think so yeah i think so i'm

not really sure i don't remember So, yeah, and

anything that Peter Cullen's in is just great.

Anything. It doesn't matter what he's doing.

I don't care. I mean, I know this is contradicting

myself when I'm talking about specific animation

styles. I will watch him voice anything. It doesn't

matter what it is. All right, then, motherfucker.

Have you checked out the My Little Pony's movie

then? No. Because he's in that. Yeah, I know,

but no, I haven't. There is one thing in that

movie. My girlfriend made me watch this. There's

one villain, or not villain, there's a series

of people called the Grundles. Do you know what

a Grundle is? No. I'm not sure I want to know,

but go ahead. Do you know what a Gooch is? Stop

making me think, man. It's the spot between your

balls and your asshole. So my little ponies teamed

up with Grundles to defeat something called the

Schmooze. That is so fucking wrong. It is the

most painful hour and change of animation I've

ever had to sit through. So fucking wrong. I

gotta tell you, I have Satellite, I have DirecTV,

and I absolutely love Boomerang Network. It's

just great. They show all the old classic cartoons.

Tom and Jerry, Huckleberry Hound, Top Cat. They

even show Pound Puppies. And I haven't seen Pound

Puppies in forever. Dastardly and Muttly, Wacky

Races, Hong Kong Phooey, all these really old

classic, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, all these

classic cartoons. And it is just great. And it's

like 24 hours a day, nothing but cartoons. And

I love it. But I think, going back to what you

said about the death of Saturday morning cartoons,

the problem is those networks. Cartoon Network

and Boomerang. Even though I like Boomerang,

that's the problem. Saturday morning cartoons

were for... The syndicated broadcast networks,

NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, WBCW, whatever the hell it

is now, whatever. That's what those are for.

That's what those were for. And now with Cartoon

Network and everything else out there, freaking

Teletune up in Canada and everything else, that's

why the death of Saturday morning cartoons has

come along. It's because all the regular networks

are putting on news specials and stuff. There's

no money in Saturday mornings anymore, I think,

because of the Internet. Why watch it? Why sit

in front of your TV when you can just download

it or stream it whenever you want? Don't even

get me started on the subject of streaming, because

as much as I watch some YouTube clips, YouTube

video clips, watching cartoons on YouTube is

like sticking your hand in a pickle jar and having

somebody bite it off. I mean, you know, it...

It's just ridiculous. I would much rather have

a DVD set of a cartoon than have to resort to

watching it on YouTube. But if the DVD isn't

made available, it's a good substitute. I guess.

I mean... I don't know. I don't think we're ever

going to see a renaissance era of cartoons and

live action TV. Like, we're not going to see

another Saved by the Bell or Captain Planet and

the Soldiers of the Future. Or even another,

you know, Disney afternoon. Because I'm sorry,

the current Disney cartoons suck. I'm not precisely

sure why they suck. They just do. I think animation,

sadly enough, may be on its way out unless it's

on a specialty channel. I was going to say, don't

say that statement the way that you were going

to say it until you added specialty channel.

As far as the current Disney cartoons, the only

one that I can really, really watch and kind

of all right and enjoy is probably Kim Possible.

That's it. I'm kind of liking The Weekenders

and Recess. Recess was cool. Even those are kind

of stupid. Recess was cool, and I have watched

the replacements a couple of times, but, I mean,

I don't know. There never will be another DuckTales

or Darkwing Duck or Goof Troop, which sucks.

And even occasionally when a classic show gets

remade, case in point, I saw one episode of this,

and that was more than enough to scar me for

life. The Lunatic Show. Do you know what I'm

talking about? Fucking Daffy Duck in space with

a knife? Are you kidding me? I saw this show.

I was flipping through the channels one day,

and I'm thinking, all right, what's this? And

then I realized it was Daffy Duck. And it was

literally blasphemy. Like, I thought I died and

went to hell, and this was my punishment. And

it was frigging terrible. I guess the thing I

didn't like about it is they took them way out

of their natural element. Now, Tiny Toon Adventures

was okay. Because that was fine. That's what

it did. That's what it was supposed to do. Well,

Tiny Toons, it wasn't even really out of their

element. Tiny Toons was... They had the original

Looney Tunes cast of characters as teachers at

Acme Lou. And then they had all these new characters

that were based on the originals, sort of. But

they had their own personalities. I mean... It

wasn't like a straight rip -off or it wasn't

a bad rip -off. It just kind of flowed. It was

good. Yeah, it was good. Neither one of us mentioned,

which I don't mind watching the segment on Animaniacs,

but I will never buy the DVD sets of Pinky and

the Brain because I like both the characters.

I really do, but I just would not watch the show.

See, I was kind of the same way, but I caught

a few episodes here and there, and sometimes

they were exceptionally good. Sometimes. A lot

of Pinky and the Brain, I found, was a lot of

hit and miss. Yeah, well, you know, after so

many episodes of schemes that failed, did they

ever succeed at all in any episodes? Several

times, but the plan would always end up screwing

up due to some little detail that they forgot.

Yeah, I know, I know. I remember that. But, I

mean, did they ever at all succeed once? I don't

know. I haven't seen every episode, so I couldn't

tell you. I don't know. But, yeah, it's just

a shame. Now, I know most of the ones that I

listed are the ones that we've talked about,

the majority of the ones, other than the very...

abstract and off -the -wall ones that you listed

was, you know, most of them are on DVD with the

exception of, like, X -Men. Spider -Man has a

few, like, individual. Sporadic. But nothing

that great. Actually, Tiny Toons, Season 1, Volume

2 comes out, I think, sometime in March. Because

I have Season 1, Volume 1, so. There is a great

company that produces a lot of older cartoons

on DVD, and it's called Shout Factory. So if

you want to find older cartoons, definitely check

them out. They're great people. I believe that

website is shoutfactory .com, but I couldn't

be absolutely sure off the top of my head. But,

yeah, I guess that pretty much does it for me.

I mean, that's all the stuff that I can think

of. Besides, we don't want you using your brain

too much. It might explode. Exactly. And by the

time this podcast hits the airwaves, I'm actually

going on to a movie set in the next couple hours,

and then I'm on an all -night shoot. I get to

be a zombie, and I get to be shot up and exploded

and all sorts of crazy crap. If I can, I'll post

the video online. It should be quite fun, though.

All right. Well, thanks, Mike, for coming on

the show again. You want to plug all your stuff?

Well, guys, if you want to check out some of

the stuff that I do, you can find all my new

video game reviews at 1150 AM WIMA in Lima, Ohio.

Also, if you want to check out my new internship,

you can find me at www .thegameheroes .com where

I run the prototype along with Hans and Tom.

Occasionally, you can find me at screwattack

.com where I do work on hard news as a videographer

or reporter. And lastly, thisweekingeek .net.

We're currently undergoing maintenance, but by

the time this airs, we should be back. New, shiny,

sexy, awesome. We pretty much kick ass, so don't

worry. You'll see lots of stuff there. And dailygame

.net, where I write every Friday. Uh -huh. Yeah,

you guys need to change that artwork back in

iTunes, damn it. I like the black and red, not

the blue and red. I'm a big fan of the blue and

red, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, up

next on the TFG1 Podcast all -cartoon episode,

you will hear Steve slash Megatron and I do the

exact same thing Mike and I just did. So see

you in that clip, folks. When you cross that

line of fire. You've got to have guts to stand

for your rights. You've got to keep a grip on

this whole long fight. You've got to do the fighting

with all of your might. You've got to keep the

target free to hell in your fight. You've got

to get up. Go, go. You've got to get up. Go,

go. G .I. Joe. America's top secret mobile strike

force team. Go, go. The mission is to defend

freedom. Go, go. The threat. Cobra, an evil organization

bent on world conquest. Go, go! The battle cry.

Go, go! Go, go! Go, go! Go, go! But ever since

I got here, it's been one exciting adventure

after another. Maybe I'll never go home. What

can I say? I'm hooked. It is a legend no one

will forget. Everyone thought King Koopa had

left the Mushroom Kingdom. artists toiled endlessly

to come up with cartoon stars, ultimately creating

three new characters, the Warner Brothers and

their sister Dot. Unfortunately, the Warner kids

were totally out of control. The trio ran amok

throughout the studio until their capture. The

Warner's films, which made absolutely no sense,

were locked away in the studio vault. the studio

has disavowed any knowledge of the Warners' existence

to this very day when the Warners escaped. and

welcome to the TFG1 podcast. This is the second

clip of the all -cartoon episode, Supplemental.

So, yeah, it's 5 o 'clock in the fucking morning

when Steve and I are recording this, and with

me is Steve slash Megatron from PredaconEmpire

.com. Hello, Steve. Hey, guys, what's going on?

Oh, not much. It's too fucking early. Yes, it

is. Way too fucking early to be doing this shit.

Ugh. Besides, I've been in podcasting hell all

weekend. Yeah, I can tell. Yeah. Mr. Deserter

over here for video games. Which one? Oh, yeah,

me. Yeah, you. It shows you where my brain's

at. Exactly. It's too damn early. Yeah, I know.

So, as... Mike the Birdman Dodd and I did in

the first clip, we talked about all our favorite

cartoons from the 60s to the 80s and then from

the 90s until now. And Steve and I are going

to do the same thing. Seeing as how, as we've

said, when we record this clip, it's like 5 o

'clock in the morning. Excuse it. It's just,

it's too fucking early. Don't know why we're

going to do this to ourselves, but I guess I'm

going to... We just enjoy being tired. Enjoy

being tired in my ass? I don't think so. Oh,

yeah, and if you people out there hear sipping

sounds, it's because I'm trying to wake myself

up with soda, so just shut the hell up and just

take it. Wow. Okay. Anyways, how do you want

to keep this episode rolling so that we don't

have to get out of your space? Well, if you would

talk more. No. Yeah, Mr. I want to hog the airwaves.

Well, you did screw up those RSS feeds a few

times. Yeah, that was like towards the beginning

of running two podcasts. Basically, I got this

idea from, I had listened to an old episode of

Earth2 .net, the show, and they were talking

about all their greatest, you know, all their

favorite cartoons and great cartoons and everything

else. I said, oh, that would be a cool supplemental.

So I just started writing something up, and I

just started making a list as I was listening

to that episode of their podcast. And I just

started writing down cartoons and eventually

made it into a few lists. I think we're going

to start this off with my top ten all -time back

then, which back then for me is like from 60

to 90. Anything before 1990 is old. Number 10

is Garfield and Friends. Number 9 is Mask. Number

8 is Looney Tunes. Number 7 is Tom and Jerry.

Number 6 is A Pup Named Scooby -Doo. And yes,

it was back then because it was airing in 1988.

Number 5 is Thundercats. Number 4 is Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles. Number 3 is Voltron. Number

2 is He -Man. And of course, being a Transformers

podcast, number 1 is Transformers. So, which

one do you want to talk about first? I don't

know. Just pick one. Actually, I found out, because

I recently just got the Thundercats. I recently

just finished collecting those on DVD. I actually

found out that that was one of the first U .S.

Japanimation shows. they say on the DVD set on

some of the special features that a lot of that

animation in that show was done in Japan, which

doesn't surprise me, but it kind of did when

I first saw it. I was like, oh, wow, that wasn't

a U .S.-done show. I mean, I know obviously Voltron,

the original idea for that was a Japanese idea

called Go Lion, but, yeah. I think a lot of these

shows... had a lot of impact, especially like

Transformers and He -Man and Voltron and Thundercats

and all that stuff. Well, they were the early

pioneers of cartoons on Saturday morning. That's

true, too. Most of the stuff that comes out nowadays

is pretty much... Well, yeah, then it's got this

retarded comedy and trying to more or less dumb

down, you know, with crap that... especially

Cartoon Network's throwing out nowadays. Saturday

morning cartoons have been dead since, I would

say, about 2003. Since Beast Wars and Beast Machines

ended pretty much. Yeah, I can kind of agree

with that, but I kind of don't, because when

they brought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

back, the series was kind of, it was alright.

It wasn't the 80s series, but at least it was

something. better than all this kiddie crap like

fucking Pokemon and Winx Club and whatever the

hell else Fox is running nowadays. Yeah, I have

to agree. The new Ninja Turtles is pretty nice.

It's not obviously the 80s show, but it is a

nice follow -up. Yeah, it's something. I don't

think it's on any of my lists, but the Sonic

cartoons were always really cool, like the Adventures

of Sonic the Hedgehog, which is now on DVD, I

believe. Mike and I talked about this in the

other clip. I started watching Sonic X when I

was still watching Saturday morning cartoons,

but I've stopped since then just because I completely

lost interest. Well, see, I like the old... 2

Sonic series. There was one where it was like

a Adventures of and there was the one where it

was more of a serious tone. Kind of like the

Darkwing Duck of Sonic. Yep. Yep. Yeah. Seeing

as how Obviously, this is the TFG1 podcast, and

yeah, Transformers would have to be my number

one, only because that's the one I watch the

most, regardless of the fact that if I wasn't

doing the podcast, I would probably be watching

those DVDs. And it's actually funny that I mentioned

to you the other day that I'm almost done with

Season 2, and it actually shocks me seeing as

how Season 2 was their biggest season. It was

like, what, 20 -some episodes? No. Kidding me?

Two DVDs? I'd have to count them up. You'd have

to actually talk while I count them. But yeah,

if you want to just go ahead and do one of your

lists, go over here and get this other set. Okay,

well, pretty much for my, because I have a smaller

list because I obviously didn't follow format.

My 1960s on up TV series I'd have to say were,

of course, Transformers, Inspector Gadget, Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Bros. 3, Mega

Man. Both G .I. Joe shows, because one was run

by one studio that did Transformers, and then

after that got canned after the direct VHS movie

of G .I. Joe. They had another production company

take it over and kind of completely changed the

format. And I think that's about it for my older

ones because a lot of the stuff I liked came

out in the early 90s. Yeah, yeah. I just took

both DVD sets and put them back, well, front

to front. I tried doing the best math I could

at 5 o 'clock in the morning by counting these

episodes out. I believe there was a total number

of 65 cartoons in Season 2 because they split

it up into two parts for the DVD release. So

I don't know why they would have done that, but

whatever. I think it was just to get cooler artwork.

But, yeah, they're like... I mean, there's a

few of them in my honorable mentions list, which

I'll list later, that I liked. But, yeah, the

cartoons of, I guess you could say, yesteryear

were really great. Mask is one I remember watching,

and I remember having some of the toys, but I

don't, first of all, unfortunately, it's not

on DVD. Unless you get it bootleg, which I refuse

to do. But I think the only thing I remember

about that is the truck in that almost looked

like what Optimus looks like in the movies now.

It was like a nose. It wasn't a flat nose truck.

It was a whatever the hell the other type of

tractor trailer truck is called. I don't remember.

But like Looney Tunes and especially like the

Peanut Specials and Looney Tunes, those were

not. children's cartoons. I just recently got

the Looney Tunes Golden Collections and the creators

say on there that they made the cartoons for

themselves. So there are a lot of adult themes

in those cartoons. It's just if you're a kid

you don't understand most of it. So it's still

entertaining. I never got the joke about I'm

only three and a half years old. Throughout the

entire... Throughout the entirety of those DVDs

that I watched, I watched pretty much all the

cartoons except for the ones I didn't like, which

were mostly the black and white ones that didn't

have Bugs Bunny in them. Anyway, I don't know.

Going to recent years, my top ten would be The

Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, Batman Beyond,

Darkwing Duck, Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures,

The Legend of Zelda, Batman the Animated Series,

Spider -Man, X -Men, and I cheated with my number

one. It's Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

Technically, they're the same cartoon, but they

had different formats, so whatever. Yeah, I loved

all the Nintendo stuff, all the Nintendo cartoons.

I could watch those over and over and over again.

The only thing that I cannot watch is those interstitials

in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show with the

live action. Cannot stand some of that stuff.

No, I can't stand it either, but it is pretty

funny. Sometimes. But, yeah, I just recently,

because I got Netflix, I'm able to watch all

these Nintendo shows on my Blu -ray player and

stream it live from the internet. But I just

recently watched the first Captain N series,

which I remember for some reason watching when

I was younger. Probably like a re -release on

TV. Yep. So I remember that. I remember the Super

Mario Bros. show, of course, one of the three

that were released. And the Legend of Zelda one

I just got a hold of. And it's not too bad either,

but obviously you can tell it's an 80s show.

Well, yeah, early 90s. But, yeah, I mean, you

know, what are you going to do? I think the animation

on that has held up for what it is, for the show

that it is. It was fairly good animation, and

it is very, very... If you watch that opening

title sequence, it's very, very hard to animate

water, and I think they did a very good job with

that scene where he's shooting the water with

his sword, and of course he lands in the rock

and she lands in the water. They did that really,

really well. I actually can't watch any... I

was actually going to watch some of these, but

I can't because all the DVDs are in the... Or

in the new apartment, because I'm still in the

process of fucking moving. Joy, joy. Yeah, really.

X -Men and Spider -Man. Until I found Batman

the Animated Series and all the cartoons that

encompass the DC animated universe, X -Men and

Spider -Man and Iron Man were my three favorite

cartoons. as far as the 90s, as far as that style

of cartoon and that, you know, the comic book

superhero type thing. Yeah. Tiny Toons did a

much better job. Mike brought this up in the

other clip. He goes, he said he absolutely hates

Lunatics Unleashed. He thinks they fucked over

Bugs Bunny and Davy Duck. And we were comparing

it. We weren't really comparing it. We were kind

of comparing it to... Tiny Toons, and I said,

you know, Tiny Toons, even though the Looney

Tunes are in that, there are all, and most of

the characters like Buster and Babs and Plucky

Duck and Hampton Pig, they're based off of the

original, but at least they pay homage. At least

they don't put them in space like the fucking

Lunatics cartoon did, and they changed their

names to fucking Ace Bunny and crap like that.

That is just fucking stupid. Well, I've never

seen that, actually, and nor did I ever want

to, but I've seen the DVD box set. like Best

Buy and never wanted to pick it up. But I do

have to agree with you on the X -Men, Spider

-Man, Iron Man, and I used to watch those quite

frequently until obviously the Batman animated

series came out, the first one. And that one

was, I'd have to say, my favorite cartoon to

come home and see after school and one that I

couldn't miss. Yeah, it... The modern miracles

of DVD releases are just great. They just released,

right before Christmas, the complete series.

What they did was they took all four of the volume

sets that were already released and just put

them into one giant box set with a whole bunch

of cool artwork. It's got this giant big book,

40 -page color booklet. just telling you different

production notes and showing you different artwork.

Instead of putting individual books in each volume

as far as saying what's what and what's this

and whatever else, it's a giant 40 -page book

that gives you all the information on what's

on the DVDs, and it's just great. And there is

a 17th disc, a bonus disc included with it, that

has a... A few special features. One of them

is a history of Batman through animation from

like 1960 until now. And, well, I should say

until a few years ago. because, thank God, it

does not have any of the Batman the Brave and

the Bold crap on it. That's something I'll get

into in a second. But this set was just, it is

so cool. It's so great to have these cartoons

on just one giant set. But, yeah, Mike and I

pretty much trashed Batman the Brave and the

Bold. He said the only reason why he gets up

is to go relieve himself. from watching this

cartoon. I can see that DC and whoever does that,

like Warner Brothers or whoever does their production,

whoever comes up with their ideas, I can see

them wanting to go to the silver age of DC's

comics. That's what they did with, like, the

Justice League New Frontier movie, which is fine,

but it just... Fucking Oswald from Drew Carey

is the voice of Batman. Give me a fucking break.

Diedrich Bader plays Batman in this cartoon.

Like, what the fuck? Yeah, definitely the guy

from the Batman animated series would have to

play Batman. I think his name's Kevin Conroy.

I think he pretty much resembles the entire...

He is Batman. I mean, the cartoon, anyways, he's

the best Batman we've gotten so far, just like

Mark Hamill is the best Joker. It's funny. It's

weird that I see Mark Hamill in other series,

like he was Hobgoblin in Spider -Man. Somehow

that's not surprising. Well, no, it's not surprising

now that I know it, but when I first heard his

voice, because Jetix, the Toon Disney... that

runs on the Toon Disney channel. On New Year's

Day, or on, was it New Year's Day, New Year's

Eve? New Year's Eve through New Year's Day, they

ran all 65 episodes of the Spider -Man 1994 series

back to back. It was nothing but a Spider -Man

marathon. And I saw it, and I kept watching and

kept watching, and I saw Hobgoblin, and I'm like,

wait a second. That's the fucking Joker. What

the fuck is the Joker doing in a Spider -Man

cartoon? And I looked it up, and sure enough,

Mark Hamill played the Hobgoblin. You know, I

looked up the cast of the X -Men show, and they

did not do anything. As far as I can tell, I'd

have to look it up again. I'm too lazy to do

that at 5 o 'clock in the morning. But as far

as I can tell, they have not been in anything

else. other than that show. Like I said, I would

have to look it up again, but most of these stars

that do voiceover, they will cross over. Like

Michael Rosenbaum, he has been in tons of different

shows. He's been in Justice League, excuse me,

as The Flash. He actually just played... What

the hell was the name of the character? He played

some character in Batman Brave and the Bold,

and I don't know what the hell it is from...

I think what they're trying to do with Batman

the Brave and the Bold is gear it more towards

kids, because the Batman cartoon was more adultish,

and of course, you know, Justice League and all

that stuff was more adultish, and I don't know,

I think they're trying to bring it back to a

kid level, which is fine, but... Like you said,

if it isn't Kevin Conroy, it doesn't fucking

matter. And that's the same way that I feel.

That's the same way I've always felt. Fucking

Jeremy Sisto as Batman in Justice League New

Frontier. That was fucking bullshit. And the

thing about Conroy is he does two different voices

for those roles. He does a softer, more mellow

voice for Bruce Wayne, and then he does the Batman

voice, which is really deep, gruff, and like,

you know, do this or I'm going to kick your ass

type of deal. So going to honorable mentions,

back then I have, and I just cut these to five

because it would take too long. At the time when

I wrote this up, I couldn't think of ten honorable

mentions. Jim and the Holograms, don't give me

shit. I said this on the Birdman Club. Don't

give me shit. For some odd reason, I remember

this show, and the first thing I remember thinking

about it is, wow, they made a cartoon for strippers.

So that's where that came from. Number four is

Silverhawks. I remember this show slightly. I

don't remember all of it. I believe the first

volumes on DVD, but I don't know. Number three

would be G .I. Joe, both series. I didn't pick

either one. I just put G .I. Joe in a hole because

I remember it just being one series, but I know

that it was. Made by two different companies.

Number two would be this peanut specials. And

number one, I actually cheated and I looked off

somebody else's list and stole Rocky and Bullwinkle.

That's right. Leave me to do the damn news for

the week and that's what you get. You steal my

podcast and then you steal... No, I know. I know.

So we're doing the top ten for memorable mentions

for all time? No, I'm doing top five. You can

do whatever the hell you want to do, but I'm

doing top five. Because like I said, I couldn't

think of top ten. Alrighty. Well, for my top

five, I guess I'll do. Oh, wait, wait. Go back.

You didn't do your top ten for recent years.

You just mixed them. Okay, so you just want to

go into the honorable mentions. Okay, just do

that. That's fine. Pretty much my... Are we doing

all -time favorites, or are we doing... Try to

cut it into the two time periods. Try to cut

it back then to where it's nothing before 1990,

and then put all the ones that are 1990. And

the recent ones. Okay. The ones before 1990,

I'd have to say, would be pretty much the ones

before, like the G .I. Joe, Transformers, Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles. Of course, Mega Man, because

I actually liked that series a lot, considering

Mega Man didn't sound like Mega Mega from Captain

N. Mega High! That's the one thing I remember

from the intro. Is Mega Man zooming in on some

Amtrak -looking thing saying, Mega High! Yeah,

I know, that was retarded. My favorite episode

of Mega Man, I'd have to say, would be the one

where Mega Man X actually shows up. It's been

so long since I've seen that show. I would hopefully

have to find it and see if it's on DVD. I don't

know if it is or not. I don't think it is. I've

been looking. Probably not. Just like the G .I.

Joe series, I wish that they had the second half.

I think they got bits and pieces of the first

one, but the second half isn't released. Yeah,

mine before 1990s, I'd have to say, would consist

of that list, and another big one I used to watch

when I was a kid was Looney Tunes. So Looney

Tunes was, it was just excellent, excellent animation,

and it was just off -the -wall gags. I mean,

any time you get Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam

in it, in a situation with each other, and Bugs

outwits him is just great. And one of my favorites

is the one where they're on the pirate ship,

and Bugs keeps lighting the match and throwing

it down into the explosives hold. And Sam has

to keep going back, Don't do that, you darn idiot!

Next time, I ain't going after it! So Bugs, of

course, lights it and throws it down, and Sam's

just standing there tapping his foot. See him

run down there, boom, he explodes. I hate you,

rabbit. I remember that one. My top five honorable

mentions for most recent, number five would be

DuckTales. I liked it. It was okay. I know. I'm

probably going to get flack for talking bad about

it. I just didn't really get into it all that

much. I did like all of the Disney afternoon

cartoons, like DuckTales, Darkwing Duck, Tailspin,

Goof Troop, and all that stuff. But, I don't

know, DuckTales, just sometimes, I had to be

in the mood to watch it. Going back to the Marvel

cartoons, The Hulk is number four, Iron Man is

number three. The Hulk cartoon, I cared nothing

for. Between the Hulk cartoon, Avengers, Fantastic

Four, none of those appealed to me at all. Hulk

was just... It just, ugh. I can't even say it.

It just fucking sucked balls is what it did.

But Iron Man, on the other hand, I really like

that. If I had to choose the next DVDs that were

released for Marvel or Disney or whoever the

hell owns the rights to those, it would be the

X -Men cartoons, Spider -Man and Iron Man. And

then numbers two and one are Cartoon Network

alumnus, and the only reason why they're on here,

as Honorable mentions, is because I remember

watching episodes here and there. I did not watch

them faithfully. Number two would be Powerpuff

Girls, and number one would be Dexter's Lab.

I'm not giving you flack because I've seen both.

Well, they are both on Boomerang now, and that's

the other thing. Well, no, it's not sad. It's

good. It's actually sad for the Cartoon Network

channel because they have to now put shit on

there like the amazing misadventures of Flapjack

and whatever else they fucking shouted. What

the fuck is that thing? I don't fucking get it.

I don't know. Yeah, I don't either. And I hate

how they got rid of Tsunami. Sons of bitches.

But anyways. Yeah, for my 1990s honorable mentions

that were some of my favorite series, but not

among my top five of the decade. Because I have

to condense this. It's going to be a little bit

difficult. But I'd have to say I like the Sonic,

the more serious one. Dragon Ball Z. Freakazoid,

Mutant League, which I don't remember a whole

hell of a lot about, but for some reason I like

that show. Well, it's based off a Sega game,

and at the same time, I used to watch it before

it got canceled, and in its place was replaced,

or, yeah, replaced, replaced, was the Power Block

with Beast Wars in it. So I ended up seeing Beast

Wars by a fluke that Mutant League was not on.

So thank goodness for that. And also I'd have

to say, like, the Marvel block. Yep. One of the

cartoons you did have on your list, I was talking

about you on the off -air. Reboot. The only reason

why I remember that show is because Tim Curry

played the villain. He played the voice of the

villain. And at first, when I first saw it, I

didn't really pay any attention to it, and I

thought that was the new Transformers cartoon.

I'm like, wait a minute. It's a bunch of kids

running, or it's a bunch of, like, mini robots

running from this giant thing. What the hell?

It just can't be the Transformers cartoon. And

then I eventually found Beast Wars, which I did

not keep up with throughout those years, seeing

as how I was moving around a lot. But they're

on DVD, and hopefully I'll get them for my birthday,

but I doubt I will. Well, just so you know, it's

hard to get that series because they are Rhino.

Oh, reboot, yeah. Well, no, it's not that hard.

depending on the season I had a hard time like

in my local stores I couldn't find them I bought

season 3 actually at Best Buy and then after

that I never saw any of them again and I had

to buy the rest online and then I bought Beast

Machines the complete series online too but they

had a little bit of extras on the discs and I

mean some nice stuff the last time that I looked

on BestBuy .com they were there but It was either

you had to have them shipped to you, or you can

only pick up one or two that are in... Because

usually what I do with BestBuy .com is I'll do

in -store pickup because it saves on the fucking

shipping. Of course, you have to pay a shitload

of gas to get out there, but it's just easier

for me to just pick it up in the store. And last

time I looked, I think two out of the three seasons

of B -Stores were available for pickup, and I

don't believe... Beast Machines was, and that's

fine. As long as I can get them from Target .com

or BestBuy .com, that's fine. I am not going

to wait so far. I mean, obviously, it's far since

they've been released now, but I'm not going

to wait much longer before I get them, because

if I do, I guarantee you I'll have to end up

paying $300 fucking dollars for them like I did

with the G1 series on Rhino releases. Yeah, there's

no way in hell I'm paying that much for a DVD

set. I will find some site that has a discount

on them. Because, like, I bought, for instance,

B -Store Season 1 was released at, like, $54

or something like that. I bought it online for

$30. For what? Yeah. So, I mean, I can find discounts

around there for DVDs. I don't ever buy them

for the store price. Well, I got these off of

eBay, so, you know. It was just... Yeah, you're

going to pay them. I know, I know, but... Well,

hell, actually, it was $400 cheaper than getting

them on Amazon. I mean, Amazon had, I think the

lowest listing they had was $700 for all five

of these sets. That's fucking ridiculous. I understand

they are very rare because they are no longer

being printed, but that's beside the fucking

point. Darkwing Duck, I'm actually planning on

getting those as well. They have two volumes

of that on DVD, and I really like that cartoon.

I think the only thing I can really remember

from it is Launchpad Always Crashing. Or, wait.

Yeah, I like that series. That was one of my,

I'd have to say, favorite Disney programs to

watch. It was like a Batman series, but Disney

style. I think that is the only Disney afternoon

cartoon that I actually could watch at any time.

As I said, I like Tailspin and Goof Troop and

DuckTales, but it just... Tailspin wore on me

really, really thin. I mean, it was basically

Jungle Book with planes. That's all it was. Yeah,

I liked that series, but I would never sit there

and watch it again. I would probably watch one

episode and be like, okay, I remember this show.

Well, I mean, if it's on TV and there's nothing

else on, yeah, sure, I'll watch it. But Disney's

cartoons nowadays, Mike and I were talking about

them on the other clip, and he is under the impression

that they really suck. And I kind of tend to

agree with him. The only one that I can... The

only three that I can admittedly admit to watching

is Kim Possible, Recess, and The Replacements.

And I think out of those three, I only watch

Kim Possible the most whenever it's on. But that's

like, you know, just channel surfing. If it's

on, oh, okay, it's on. It's not like I know the

exact time when it's going to be on. That was

the other thing with, like, no, I don't, actually.

Half the time they're, like, on, like, in the

middle of the night, so it doesn't really matter.

But that's the other thing. Weird time slots

for cartoons. Like, I remember I never actually

got to finish an episode of Transformers when

I was younger. Never. Because it was on at fucking

6 o 'clock in the morning, and I had to catch

a bus by 6 .30. So, yeah, I'm so glad I have

these DVD sets now. See, I was lucky. Beast Wars

was on at, I think, 7. 6 .30. No, it was on at

6 .30, and I used to be able to watch it until

7, and then I'd have to get up and leave by like

7 .30. Yeah, I remember now. That's right. It

was Reboot and Beast Wars. The Reboot went first.

Reboot was on at 6, and then Beast Wars was on

at 7. I suppose another one that deserves an

honorable mention is Captain Planet, but there

are just way too many bad puns in that show.

Used to have a pretty bad one, too. Come on.

You know you want to. Come on, Steve. No, it's

all right. You might as well. It's the all -cartoon

episode. I mean, we can't really embarrass ourselves

any more than we already have. I mean, Christ,

Jim and the holograms? Give me a break. It makes

me sound like I'm a freaking stalker. That's

exactly why I'm not mentioning nothing. No, no.

I would never sit there and watch that show.

Because at the time I hated anime shows. And

besides that, I would never sit through an episode.

It just looked retarded. These very tall, very

like bone skinny structured girls that could

not, looked like they couldn't stand up straight.

And they had these huge freaking heads. Yeah,

it was bad. I don't... It was like watching skeletons

dance around on the screen. Oh, God. Yeah, I

only... That would be another one that I only

caught like one or two episodes of. One show

I probably will not get on DVD is probably Pinky

and the Brain. I don't mind them having their

little segment on Animaniacs DVDs and cartoons,

but I... I do like the characters and I like

the concept, but it just gets old after a while.

I don't think any of those shows that were on

Animaniacs with them or any of their own shows

that are on the DVDs now, I don't think they

succeeded at all. Because at some point at the

very ends, they would forget some major or minor

detail that would fuck up the entire scheme.

They should have had one where it went into the

future to see how bad they messed up the timeline.

Yeah, that would have been cool. That would have

been awesome. Well, I think, is there anything

else going on? Anything else you want to talk

about? Well, for instance, my all -time top ten.

Yeah, because I have so many more lists than

you do. Exactly. Because I don't listen. But

I'd have to say Beast Wars and Beast Machines

would be up there on my number one. Transformers

G1 is number two. G .I. Joe is number three.

Mega Man is number four. And Batman the Animated

Series is number five. Those would be my top

five of the... Between the 80s to now. That's

cool. Yeah, I didn't put Beast Wars. I was originally

going to, but I didn't put any on the list because

I only remember a total number of four episodes

between Beast Wars and Beast Machines. So, yeah,

I need to get the DVDs and watch those again.

Well, see, what I like about Beast Wars is it...

Starts off as you think a completely different

series. Although the intro scene where they crash

land on the planet from episode 1 is very similar

to G1. Which they didn't actually plan because

they never had seen Transformers before. And

at the same time, this series, although they

had filler episodes, most of it was building

upon Abe. plot and had a point for the end of

each series or season and it built a lot more

character depth than Yeah, well, like I said

before, as I've been going through these, some

of them are like the ones that are, like the

ones right after a couple of the three -parters

or the two or three -parters. They do, like especially

in season one, they continue the storyline pretty

much all the way through the entire series of

season one. Like... at the end of, I forget what

the episode is after, More Than Meets the Eye

Part 3. And I'm not going back into the... Crap,

what was it? I don't know. That's pretty bad.

Shut up. Shut the hell up. I've been writing,

I'm already up to episode 13 script, damn it.

I haven't watched these cartoons for the past

two and a half months. Christ, I've watched over

65 cartoons. Well, that's going to be the thing

with me. I'm going to have to sit there and stare

at Beast Wars for long -ass hours when we go

to do that podcast in the future. I'll wait until

you get done with this series, though. Yeah,

we're not having you produce three podcasts at

once. Producing two at once is hard enough. Of

course, ATTF is, you know, every other week,

but... Or whatever... damn well feel like releasing

an episode. Or when I just take the shit over.

Yeah, because I made show notes ahead of time.

Thank God for that. Although episode 12 for that

will be more of a discussion -based episode,

unless there's some serious news. Because considering

it'll be the day before the Super Bowl, so we

won't see any trailers yet. But, I mean, yeah,

Beast Wars, from what I've seen just from, just,

I don't understand why that wouldn't be in syndication

somewhere on TV. Really? I don't understand either.

I mean, because I love to see some of these old

programs come back on TV. Going back to what

I, go ahead, sorry, go ahead. Well, like the

original Batman series should come back, the

Beast Wars. Although Beast Machines didn't rate

very high, I would like to see that come back,

but after Beast Machines. I'd like to see the

original Transformers and Mega Man and G .I.

Joe come back. Well, now Batman and Superman

and all that stuff is in syndication at some

point on the Jetix block of... to Disney because

I have seen that. They brought that back, I believe,

in November of last year. They're not on that

often, but they are every now and then. If you

really, really, really, really want to watch

those cartoons, I was just getting the DVDs.

I just finished completing my entire DC animated

universe collection with the Superman, the animated

series volumes one through three sets. So I have

no more DCAU stuff to get unless they revisit

it and put something else out. But like... Going

back to Saturday morning cartoons, it was basically,

there was cartoons on NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox,

and at the time, WB. Which at the time was called

UPN. It was Fox 50, and then it was UPN 50, and

then it became... The WB, now it's the CW. See,

no. The WB network was separate from UPN. UPN

was owned by CBS. WB was owned by Warner Brothers.

They said that in the news item for the merger

when they merged because that's why it's the

CW now. It stands for CBS and Warner Brothers.

But the thing... Why not CBW? Nothing. I was

just saying, why not the CBW then? Oh, that's

funny. Yeah, see Beast Wars. Funny. Smartass.

So, what I was trying to say is that... I think

it's great that we have networks like Boomerang,

which is through Cartoon Network, which shows

all classic cartoons. They show Hong Kong Fooey

on there. They show Secret Squirrel. Pretty much

every cartoon that you listed on your list there

that we haven't talked about as far as older

cartoons. is shown on this network. They just

actually ported over Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's

Lab, Johnny Bravo. Oh, my God. I can watch that

show every now and then. It just has to be a

really, really good episode and not so disgusting.

But Cartoon Network is like... It's just... It's

gone downhill so much. And Saturday, like Saturday

morning cartoons, they're still on, like, the

WB Network or CW or whatever the fuck you want

to call it, and Fox, but they suck. I mean, I

would much rather sit through Meet the Press

than watch a Saturday morning cartoon now, and

that's fucking wrong. I would rather pop in a

movie DVD or something and just ignore the fact

that Saturdays exist on TV. That is true. So,

you got anything else? Okay. Nothing I know of.

Well, I think we're going to close out this all

-cartoon episode, folks. Please join us next
