TFG1Mike – The Poet

THIS WILL BE A VERY PERSONAL POST. IT WILL ALSO REVEAL MORE ABOUT ME THEN I’VE EVER POSTED ON THE SITE:

I have been writing poetry since I was 14 years old. It all started because I had a crush on a girl. Annie was her name and damn did she take my breath away. WE were in the same homeroom class, and English Class. The strange thing now that I think about it is that if my Dad hadn’t had the school hold me back a year for failing Health and P.E. I’d have never even have known about Annie. Close to the end of the 1994-1995 8th grade year I’d finally worked up the nerve to ask Annie out…..Let’s just say it failed. Because I’d waited so long to ask her out or even talk to her, by the time that I did I was soooo crushing on her that I’d built up a vision of what we would have been like.

My first attempts at writing were kinda foolish. I was gonna write the all american novel and well it kinda failed from the start. I can write a really good 5-10 page short story. That’s about it when it comes to lengthy writing. What I found was that when I tried to write in Novel form I’d get 21 pages in and forget my own character details and change everything on the 22nd page.

So after realizing I’m better at short hand writing I switched gears to Poetry. My style of poetry has always been Freeverse. Meaning that most of my writing will not rhyme, but it still tells a story. When I started writing I didn’t really have a plan to put it into a book parsee. The writing just kinda took over and that’s exactly what happened. For a number of years I created a series called Good Intentions. Here are the titles of that series:

Good Intentions I: Love, Life, Obsession & The World

Good Intentions II: The Knight Loves Again

Good Intentions III: The Knight’s Sadness Continues

Good Intentions IV: Knight’s Journey Into Happiness

Good Intentions V: The Best Intentions

Good Intentions VI: Knight Turns Into A Family Man

Good Intentions: Special Edition

The GI: Special Edition was to be a combination of multiple poems from the previous six books. When I was 19 years old I tried getting a publisher, but the only thing I found were subsidy publishers. Companies that wanted me to pay them to publish my work. I said screw that! They wanted like $5,000.00 in order to publish one book. That’s nuts!!!!! So I kinda gave up on getting the books published. I hadn’t really given up writing but between 1999-2002 I hadn’t written any new material. In March 2001 I had moved from Mississippi back home to Massachusetts. I’d started writing again. I’d all but abandoned The Good Intentions Series….It was like that material was from another lifetime and it was.

I never stopped writing, but as I said the Good Intentions Series was kinda dead. I 2001 when I moved back hom to Massachusetts from Mississippi I had started writing again. Between 2001-2003 I’d come up with The Teists Of Faith & Fate Series consisting of:

The Twists of Faith & Fate published

The Twists of Faith & Fate II: Losing Faith Finding Fate published

The Twists of Faith & Fate III: Fatal Faith in Fate (not yet published)

This third installment of the Series has about 27 poems in it. I haven’t worked on it since the publication of Never Or Forever.

Between 2004-2006 I had even more poems written and created Forever or Never: The Heart Bleeds…. however the publisher tolfd me that I needed to change the title because someone else had a similar title. So the Book became:

Never Or Forever: The Heart Bleeds published

I wasn’t too thrilled with having to change my title, because it kinda took away from the impact I wanted the book to make.  However what’s in the past is in the past. The whole point of this post was to tell you something about me that most people might not know. Below are a few poems… one from each published book:

From Twists I

Take Me In

Take me in

Into your heart

Take me into your life

Believe in me

As I believe in you

Love me as I’ll always love you

Take me in

Into your life

Take me into your heart

11        Please save my soul and take me into yours

From Twists II

Life Without You

I don’t think I can bear

Living a life without your love

Going through each day without hearing your voice

Being able to look in your eyes

5          Life without you isn’t something I want to know

Being apart now…

Kills me just the same

Not being able to kiss you

Or hold you in my arms

10        I don’t want a life without you

I can’t stand the distance between us

I feel so alone without you here

I feel empty when you are gone

I don’t think I can bear

15        This life without you my angel

From Never Or Forever: The Heart Bleeds

You May Never See

Somewhere in this darkness

Is a light I can not find

From the ties that bind

4          My heart you may never see

Hurt in the past

Always moving to fast

Nothing ever lasts

8          My heart you will never know

You are unworthy of my love

You shame me and don’t deserve me

I deserve better then that

12        My heart you may never see

One of the greatest things for me being a published author with each of these books I was able to work in all the old poems from The Good Intentions Series!

Since you are reading this why don’t you head over to PublishAmerica and buy my books!!
