Hello all and welcome to my continuing Daily Blog series from me TFG1Mike. This is TFG1MIKE 365!! And it The idea here is for me to write something, anything, once a day for 365 days. From January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024. It’s Day 109 and I’m “Feelin’ Strangely Fine”! <— I ALWAYS find a way to fit feelin’ strangely fine into anything with a 9.

So it’s time for “Story Time With TFG1Mike!” I found Semisonic through their hit “Closing Time” as everyone else did in 1998. However it was when their song “F.N.T. (Fascinating New Thing) was featured in the hit film of 1999 10 Things I Hate About You, that I started listening to them more. I’ve had “F.N.T.” in my “Faves” playlist for years now. It doesn’t surprise me to learn that it was the lead off track from “Great Divide” It is just a great song, an upbeat anthem!
Let’s go back shall we… To March 24,1998. That’s when the album “Feeling Strangely Fine” was released. In the mid to late 90s, I remember everything I listened to was on the radio or singles. I very rarely listened to whole albums at the time. Which is strange to me, because as a kid in the 80s, all I would do listen to vinyl and cassettes cover to cover!
Closing Time was everywhere, on every radio station, and everyone had the cassette single in my high school at the time. We all know the dual meaning of the song, at least most of us should. I remember back then it was… strange finding out the true meaning, but hey crafting anything creatively, we take inspiration from real life right. Re listening to these two songs makes me want to listen to both of the albums that they come from. I don’t know when I’ll do this, but I’m sure it’ll be soon.

I fully believe that every live show should have a perfect closing track. Semisonic replaced “If I Run” with “Closing Time”, and I think it worked well for them. As for me I think writing up this entry, I started listening to “Closing Time” on repeat for the first time in years. I will always listen to “F.N.T.“, but “Closing Time” it has to be in special place for me to want to listen to it.
Remember to Sound off in the comments. No matter what music you listen to, ENJOY IT!!!!
Join me tomorrow April 19, 2024 as I’ll be writing about something!
