'What's Past is Prologue,' Predictions, Discovery Season 2, & Shatner Returns?

Hello and welcome to future imperfect I'm your

host Admiral Phillips and in this episode of

the podcast we'll be covering Tarantino Star

Trek theories and some Star Trek online and as

well the leading up to the season finale of Star

Trek discovery so getting on on board with the

Tarantino aspect We already know that's gonna

be rated R. There's rumors that there's gonna

be time travel involved Which I think could be

kind of interesting when you think about it We

could end up with the the capability of having

Shatner or Picard I think it would be kind of

interesting to have kind of an amalgamation of

different characters and casts that are left

alive still For for the Tarantino Trek because

Shatner and Picard, you know as Patrick Stewart

had both expressed interest in wanting to do

a film with Tarantino, especially if it's Star

Trek. So, it kinda leads that we could end up

with some interesting thoughts on it. You know,

especially when Shatner's like, you know, it

depends on the script, but if it was good, then

absolutely, why not? So, it just shows that he'd

be on board for it. Picard, you know, is also

interested in it. The last time we got to see

Shatner really reprising his role of Kirk was

in the DirecTV commercial in 2006. They kind

of superimposed him into the Enterprise A scene

from the Undiscovered Country. And then again

in 2013 when he played Kirk again as a gag where

he appeared on screen at the Oscars to talk to

the host, Seth MacFarlane. It's awesome just

to see him in costume again, especially the red

suit. I love the the monster maroon as it's come

to be known that he wears and that he still has

the ability to wear it and whatnot. I love that

uniform, but I love the fact that Shatner's just

in everything. I would so go see that if Shatner

was involved. in any capacity I think that that

also kind of is funny though if you do the whole

time travel thing or even if you do the mirror

universe stuff you could technically have Shatner

reprise his mirror universe counterpart because

he could still be alive they could have used

the tantalus device on him and sent him back

in time and so he could still be in existence

in the Terran universe which would be kind of

interesting so But yeah, I I don't know I I would

love to see Kirk appear I know that Abrams that

it was stated that Abrams blamed Kirk's death

and generations for ruling out any future appearances

claiming it was impossible to write around which

I could kind of argue not because They could

have had another version of him come out of the

Nexus in a sense because he's still technically

there and As Guinan said, you know, she's already

out there, so she couldn't go back with Picard,

so technically being Kirk's dead, he could technically

still come back out again. Kind of leaving this

infinite loop of Captain Kirk being there. I

don't know, it's kind of an interesting theory

if you think about it, but there's other methods

that they could have reverse engineered that

whole scenario, and it wouldn't be the first

time in film, but... I would have loved to have

seen Shatner back as Kirk one last time in Star

Trek, a series or film to that degree. I think

that that would have been awesome. So, with it

being time travel, you couldn't end up with a

lot of different possibilities as far as who's

alive, who's dead, who's in it, who's not. There's

even been, like, fake versions of the whole trailer

possibility of Tarantino with the original series

cast, so... I don't know, I'm kind of stoked

about it. And then Star Trek Online just hit

its eight -year anniversary mark. It's gotten

the... It's gotten Q back with a bunch of stuff,

like little mini -games like the Omega Particles

and going to get party guests and, you know,

trying to get this Bajoran ship and... I don't

really care much about any of that. I'm just

having fun playing the game. They did come out

with the Scylla and Charybdis episode or clip

where you're with Starfleet and the whole Alliance

and you're having to fight the Zinkathy around

space and then from using their protomatter bombs

on planets. And then you go to DS9 for a giant

battle where DS9 gets ravaged like Earth Space

Dock did in the Iconian fight or the 8472 battle.

And so the station's shut down, you've got the

whole fleet flying around. And I've tried playing

it with numerous of my tunes. The only one that

survives is the Kelvin Enterprise. I have some

other like defiant like ships or I've used the

Odyssey class, I've used temporal ships. I've

not had much luck, but the Kelvin Enterprise

seems to hold up pretty well in the battle and

there's a lot of Zinkethi and it's difficult.

And then you end up fighting the Zinkethi for

a while until you come to a mutual understanding

and then the Herc show up. Which I thought was

kind of interesting that that they finally because

what's funny is I just watched the episode where

wharf Kurt, you know wharf Jedzia and Man I can't

remember his name right now, but he was in the

original series He was one of the Klingons in

the original series core. I think it was And

or Kang It was one of the two, I can't remember.

Anyways, and they got this sort of K -List, and

they were talking about the battle with the Herc.

And I was like, oh, so this kind of resonates

with me now, because I know who they are. And

so going into that, you get to fight the Herc,

and then the Dominions show up. And you're like,

oh great, you know, another battle, a three -sided

battle there. But... You get to see Laris there,

and then Odo makes his return, which was nice.

So I think we know where our Gamma Quandrant

episode's gonna go. We're gonna have Odo back,

which was nice to see him return. I still would

love to see any of the captains show up, whether

it be Picard or Riker or Kirk, Picard. Cisco,

Janeway, like any of those, but I know that they'd

be insanely expensive for the game to get a hold

of. Although I don't think Cisco's doing anything

anymore, so that would kind of be an easier one

to grasp. And so I think we're gonna have a battle

with the Herc in that episode in the Gamma Quadrant

and having the Dominion involved with the Federation.

And then there was an episode called the 100th.

which you're having to go into the Delta Quadrant

to capture a missing Changeling and return him

to the Alpha Quadrant and the Borg is involved

and everything else. So I mean it's really fun

to play that. Funny thing was is I actually got

blown up in my Kelvin Enterprise in that one

and I wasn't suspecting that but the battle was

difficult. Because you had the brain the brain

are pretty difficult and and the Borg were there

so that that was even worse Especially for a

lone ship and So I played that that was pretty

fun. That was a foundry episode But yeah, I don't

know Star Trek online is still enticing me which

is which is a good sign and the the money value

In -game the the credits like I was doing a year

ago Has changed like the keys still are only

worth about one about four point or four point

one five million credits and I was I remember

when I was selling them all for like five million

credits and Making an obscene amount of money.

So anyways, I sold my two Keys for four point

two when they went up again, and then I bought

I used all my dilithium, which I could have gotten

more keys, but it would have taken about the

same amount of time. And I would have had to

waste a lot of that just to get a key to sell.

And I think I made more selling discovery lock

boxes. I bought up all the discovery lock boxes

I had the dilithium for. And I think I made about

40 million already off of those. just selling

them on the exchange before they bottomed out

a couple days ago. I was selling them for a quarter

of a million a piece, and I sold a lot of them,

and now they're going for about 94 ,000, so it's

a big drop. I've I've not picked up more because

I mean I if I do it's through the dilithium store

I will not buy them on the exchange because They're

gonna bottom out pretty soon and and be worth

nothing Once the the lockbox craze dies off So

yeah, I'm staying away from that Ultimately,

I'm saving up my my credits again because I plan

on trying to Revalue the market when the keys

go back up and buy low sell high So, you know

basic economics So anyways, I'm gonna take a

quick break come back and this I was Star Trek

discovery So anyways there was there was a couple

theories that came out You know earlier on Now

this is this is what's really funny. I found

this article on popular mechanics and it was

from January 2nd And they said the seven things

that, theories that could still happen this season.

And they said Ash Tyler is a Klingon spy, that

was true. Discovery is in the Mirror Universe,

that was false. Well, it's true if you consider

the mid -season, but they were trying to say

like the whole thing. And Captain Lorca is from

the Mirror Universe, that's two that's correct.

Admiral Cornwell is Lethe, which, that's debatable

at this point. Lorca and Burnham have met before.

from a certain point of view, if you do the Star

Wars methodology there, in the mirror universe

they've met before, which is why he saved her

from the penal colony. The Federation -Klingon

war is over. That is true. The Klingons won.

Yes, that's a spoiler from this past Sunday.

Who are Michael's parents? We didn't get that.

So four out of seven is not bad. They proved

with this episode they're a little bit more clever

than they they originally were were acting but

It's it's not been bad. I've I enjoyed the I

Enjoyed the the revelation that Lorca was from

the mirror universe They didn't have Larell stay

in the mirror universe like Trek on Tube suspected

with mirror Valk she's still in the in the brig

on Discovery, as is Burnham. Lorca is dead, for

all intents and purposes fell into the Mycelium

core on the Emperor's flagship. It's an interesting

revelation that Georgiou from the Mirror universe

was saved by Burnham this time instead of being

killed off. And you have Admiral Cornwall returning.

with acting captain Saru on the Discovery, who

stepped up like a champ in this episode. I have

loved the character of Saru since the series

started because he's very pointed, very intelligent,

and he's not afraid to really say what needs

to be said. same token like he was kind of doubting

himself at the beginning of the season where

he was kind of going off with you know the the

prominent captains and then it shows like pike

captain april you know lorca um and georgio and

and whatnot and and then you get you know there's

no correlation to him like he doesn't really

matter in the grand scheme but now you know you

have this kelpian who's you know pretty much

the only one of his kind on this side of the

galaxy um and he's basically captain of the strongest

ship in the Federation. Now, I'm going to also

throw my theories with the review because I think

that it's kind of intertwined, but it's... I've

enjoyed what they've done with this particular

episode because you get kind of the meeting of

the minds of Federation... It's almost like the

prime timeline Kirk with the mirror Spock scenario

with Georgiou and Burnham in this episode and

I think that's what I liked about it was that

they kind of bridge that gap of the two different

parallel universes and then you get Prime Stamets

who figures out that their mycelium spore drive

core that's on the Emperor's flagship is essentially

killing the entire universe and so they have

to use all their spores basically to blast through

it and destroy that that core and Allows them

to go back to to ride the waves of the mycelium

network into the prime universe again with mirror

stamets being killed off by Lorca and then you

have You know Giorgio saved on the the prime

universe and now that they're back they overshot

by eight months or nine months and the timeline

and so the Klingons have essentially taken over

the entire Federation's grounds and wiped out

the Federation. Which leads me to wonder one

of two things. One of them being are they going

to are they going to rewrite, like use time travel,

to rewrite the entire first season so far? Or,

you know, basically to reset the universe, or

are they going to just roll with the punches

and see what happens? Because there's gonna be

one of two things that pop up from this. One

of which is going to be, we're gonna end up with

another, this is gonna show that this is a different

timeline. It's gonna be a parallel timeline,

but a different timeline than the one that we

have, our original series, Kirk Spock. McCoy

and Picard and Sisko and Janeway but is it you

know I'm wondering if it's gonna be like another

parallel to the Abrams universe and I wonder

that because if they're not going to go back

and reset the universe that throws off the entire

canon of the original series yet again unless

because it's a 10 -year thing and they say there

was a giant battle maybe it takes that long for

maybe Discovery because of Emperor Georgiou being

on the Discovery now and helping Starfleet or

what exists of it here take out the Klingons

in a heavy casualty battle to reset the the borders

of the Federation and creating the Neutral Zone

I'm wondering if that is why we have the neutral

zone and like there's a mutual kind of non -contest

thing between the Klingons and the Federation

when it's time for Kirk's crew to go through.

It still doesn't explain the weird -looking Klingons

in the show. That's still one of the pet peeves

I have. But I'm wondering if Georgia helps them

basically militarize the Federation enough to

take out the Klingon Empire. and knock them back

at bay to where they belong and kind of keeping

this mutual agreement to stay out of each other's

way and this is what spurns the creation of more

of the Constitution class ships and just that's

pretty much the fleet because now we have all

of those futuristic you know hyper updated ships

and a lot of the old ships are just pretty much

wiped out at this point. There's really nothing

left. None of the space stations, none of that

stuff. So I'm wondering if that is how they're

going to play this out. So because we know in

Kirk's time there's not a lot of Starfleet ships

left. They're pretty much all Constitution class

ships. So that would be a way of them keeping

with continuity of the original series and yet

wiping out majority of the old... class ships

and a lot of these ships that were more modern

and and essentially they could be creating with

this piece like the new uniforms to kind of change

things up for season two it's kind of hard to

say where they're gonna go from this you know

they've kind of thrown a monkey wrench into the

whole series at this point by going back to the

prime universe and not having the mirror and

I'm wondering if there's gonna be a giant suicide

run of the discovery at some point and we end

up with maybe a new crew or a new ship maybe

in a Constitution class level or something like

that. It's kinda hard to say what's gonna happen

at this point. They may end up becoming mycelial

network time travelers that basically go to the

31st century or get abducted into Agent Daniel's

regime or... It's there's a there's a lot of

ground that could cover that I can see making

this more interesting than what it is But I don't

think that we're gonna end up with a total reset

I think that we're gonna keep moving forward

But I think that it also helps them to clean

the palette as it were so that it's ready for

the original series when it comes along Because

they do have a lot of the building blocks there

It's just figuring it out and you never know

discovery may get mothballed during the series

And there's a few people that have kind of explained

that, you know, this was the Never the Writer's

Tale, it's a bastardization of the original showrunner's

vision. And then others have said, you know,

it remains to be finished, you know, let the

writers tell their tale. You know, do you actually

love Trek or are you just, you know, knocking

it? There's a lot of ways that this could go.

And they still haven't explained what happened

to Prime Universe Lorca. Because now we know

that Mirror Lorca was... essentially the same

thing that happened to Kirk and his crew in the

original series happened to Lorca and that's

how Lorca ended up in the prime timeline during

the the Battle of the Binary Stars on in the

Buran and you know they basically insinuated

that although Lorca spins the story to having

to sacrifice the men of the brand to blow them

up to save them from the Klingon torture actually

it's more you know they identified him and would

have exposed him as not being Prime Lorca and

blew up the ship and killed everyone on it to

hide it. But there's been a lot of red flags

as to why Lorca is not the Lorca we knew or should

know and why he's not of this universe and so

Jason Isaacs played this role, you know, pretty

stellar. He's good at playing the the kind of

gray area and bad guy and the kind of dick character

that that he's he's used to so I I kind of I

applaud them even though it was predictable what

was going to happen I still like what they did

with it It's it's it's really really inventive

so anyways I don't know what you guys think about

this episode or whether this series is actually

ramping up to be something intelligent and spectacular.

I know that it's not 100 % original, like no

Star Trek actually is. It's kind of interesting,

like I said, with the universe jumping thing

and Isaac's performance. But I have a feeling

he'll be back in season two. I think that we're

not going to see him again in this season. He

could, for all intents and purposes, be captured

by the Klingons in a detention cell at this point.

There are other sites that have said that basically

every clue that the Discovery people have missed,

like the teaser poster with the Vulcan hand salute

and the Discovery and shooting up from the planet

is basically the Mirror Universe logo and then

there's been a lot of things dropped throughout

this season. I look forward to what the next

episode is, but the past is prologue is actually

pretty sound and pretty good overall as far as

Star Trek is concerned for Discovery. I will

say this though, they had Apparently Brian Fuller

wanted to go to the Mirror Universe sooner than

episode 10. And when Brian Fuller left the show,

they still wanted to do it, but they'd always

planned to, but it had to be adjusted because

they wanted to live with the characters more.

before that. So they've got thoughts that Prime

Lorca may show up. It's kind of explaining how,

you know, Lorca had the agonizer burns on his

back and, you know, the relationships and whatnot.

But they're saying that they're intent on going

where, you know, no Star Trek has gone before

in the next season. So we'll see what happens.

However some of the things that they have not

discussed so far is like pavos fate You know

what the heck arium is you know as far as like

a some kind of a weird Android that's not really

data The explanation of the black badges But

it could be you know section 31 or you know Lorca's

personal guard or something like that Where the

ISS discovery is? Because it's possible it's

still in the Prime universe. Because we haven't

seen what happened with that yet. Whether L 'Rell

is captured or whatnot. What's happening with

Tyler, whether Prime Lork is still alive. We've

already gotten the Klingon War. I'm wondering

what the status of the Enterprise is. See that?

about the thing that will tell what's going to

happen. If we get any mention of the Enterprise,

that will be what tells what happens. If the

Enterprise is destroyed, they're gonna reset

the timeline. If the Enterprise is not destroyed,

then we may have it go the way that I suggested

earlier in the episode. But I think that that's

going to be the key is if we hear what happens

to the other Constitution class ships and if

something bad happened to them other than what

comes later that we know of in the original series,

then that will be what tells the entire thing.

I think we'll see Burnham's redemption by the

end of the season. That's kind of a given at

this point because Saru and because everybody

else and everything that's gone on. I think that

she'll come out on top because they'll be like,

you know, prison aside, you've served the Federation,

you know, and kind of leaving it at that. So

I think that we're in for a shocking final episode

or two here as we go into the end of season one

and go into season two. So I don't know. What
