Secret Origins Podcast Episode 21 Hello and welcome

to episode 21 of the Secret Origins podcast.

It is now 2011. Happy New Year, everybody. I

am TFG1Mike and joining me is Lupus Convoy. Hello,

sir. Hello, sir. How are you? I'm actually nice

and warm and snuggly. What's up? Oh, nothing.

We're just going to be talking about four more

episodes from Justice League Season 5. That's

four, not six, right? No, it's... I can count,

really. It's four. Yes, four. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.

Oh, you made me warm. It's weird. When I turn

my heat on, for some strange reason, my computer

acts up. No, seriously. Like, when it's... When

it's like right now, I should probably go turn

the heat on because it's almost freezing in my

living room. But every time I turn it on because

my desk is like right here where I'm sitting,

the heat register where the heat comes out is

all the way across the room on the wall going

into my kitchen. So it blows directly to where

my tower is. Oh, that's not good. So it's like

every time – I mean it's not like right on it.

But, like, every time I turn it on, and I've

got the computer on, and I'm using the computer,

the computer, because of the change in temperature

in the room, will change its ways that it works.

For some strange, odd reason. I think you should

invest in some warm clothes, then, considering

how often you're on the computer. True. Probably

true. But, yeah, so, yes, it is. 2011 New Year.

And the Secret Origins podcast has four episodes

left. It's almost over. And we still don't have

any fan mail. We still don't have any responses.

No fan mail, no iTunes reviews, no nothing. I

mean, I know... We've been lax in releases every

so often, but we always make up for it, and I

think we've had some fairly good insights or

discussions. I still wish the off -air discussion

we had recording episode 19 and 20 a couple weeks

ago, I still wish I had recorded that crap. Oh,

no. Oh, God, that was horrible. Anyway. Anyway.

So what's going on with you, sir? What have you

been up to? Getting sucked into WoW and by getting

the new generation toys, which the newest wave

is so awesome. I am most looking forward to finding...

I've got it on pre -order at BBTS, but I think

it's... 2011 Series 3. The Wheeljack, Cliff,

not Cliff, but Wheeljack, Scourge, Thundercracker,

Cup, Wave. Yeah. Are you upset over Thundercracker?

Or are you excited about Thundercracker? I don't

really care either way about Thundercracker.

Why would I be upset? I mean, at least we finally

have Thundercracker in a regular release. Seeker

mold instead of having to... That would be my

third version. Huh? That would be my third version

of Thundercracker. Oh, God. I don't know. I just...

I've never really... I mean, I like... I think

the only Seeker I really like is Skywarp only

because he's black and purple and those are my

two favorite colors. But I just... I've never

liked Seeker toys. I just haven't. I don't have

anything against them. I just... It's just not

stuff I want in my collection. Really? Yeah.

Wow. I mean, the closest thing I ever came to

a Seeker were the evil Autobot Seekers of Rodimus,

Goldbug, and Blur. But anyways, yes, back to

Shattered Glass. I love it. Yes, anyways, back

to Secret Origins here. What was I going to say?

Oh, God, I lost my train of thought. Oh, yeah.

Something disappeared from your house, didn't

it? Yes, my copy of the box set is missing. Yes,

the copy I gave you as a present is missing.

What the hell? I wish I knew. Oh, God. We have

torn open this house. We've torn through cars.

We've checked our friend's house, and mysteriously,

one of them hasn't called back. Hmm. I have a

feeling that since they are a trio of... gay

geeks that they might be watching it as well.

Or their dogs eat it. One of the two. Well, let's

hope the dog didn't eat it, but you need to stalk

their house or something and go over there and

say, give me my damn setback. You can watch it

after February 2nd. I got podcasting to do with

this damn thing. Yes, and I've been... I really

don't want to drag it out. I told the story in

Headshot episode 40, so everybody can go over

to geekcastradio .com and look for that. But

basically, I've been dealing with crap with T

-Mobile and UPS. I'll tell you all fair about

that crap. But yeah, it's one of those things

where, oh my god, I did everything I was supposed

to do, and then shit happens, and holy crap.

So, before I drag this down any further, I think

we are going to get into some episodes today.

You know what? This new monitor duty rotation

isn't so bad. No more overnights unless you want

them. Only one shift a week and you're done.

Wally? Why don't you just go talk to her? Who,

me? Talk to her? No way. Yeah, you'd probably

be wasting your time anyway. I hear she's, you

know... First up in the final season of Justice

League is I Am Legion. Lex Luthor escapes from

prison and is rescued by a team of supervillains

who bring him to a secret headquarters in a swamp.

Grodd introduces his new secret society, the

Legion of Doom. Back in the city, Superman, Shire,

and Aztec. Yay, Aztec. Weren't you an Aztec geek?

I am. Okay, I was going to say, because... I

was trying to be good and not, like... Help investigate

Luthor's escape. Federal agent King Faraday reappears,

now the official liaison between the Attorney

General's office and the Justice League. He explains

that the League were not informed of Luthor's

transfer because he was not deemed a threat,

saying Luthor has been... talking to himself

from some time. Grodd explains that his organization

is sort of a quote -unquote co -op for supervillains.

Grodd provides them shelter and allows them to

organize teams for their own independent jobs

in exchange for a cut of the tape. Luther says

he isn't interested in joining in his previous

pursuits of money and power, seems stale after

his brief merger with Brainiac. For a moment,

I achieved absolute knowledge, godhood. Grodd

comments the tragedy of the whole affair and

reveals that every piece of Brainiac was destroyed

by the Flash. Then Grodd reveals his trump card,

a fragment of Brainiac, which this is just like

a little cube with the Brainiac logo on it. Which

could be like a little rock with a little paint

on it. Yeah. Yeah. Luther demands the peace,

but Grodd will only agree if Luther does a job

for Grodd. As Luther hesitates, it is revealed

who Luther is speaking to, an image of Brainiac,

who tells Luther that his programming could be

salvaged from that one peace, any one peace.

Realizing that he could reconstitute Brainiac

and reunite with him, Luther agrees to join.

In the Metro Tower, Shire and Flash are doing

monitor duty. Shire notices Wally's crush on

Fire, another fellow leaguer, and teases him

about it. Exasperated by his shyness, she determines

to tell Fire herself until a call comes from

Faraday. Chuck, the last surviving Blackhawk,

says that he has received a remote alarm from

the security system on Blackhawk Island. which

is filled with advanced weapons and technology

they confiscated during World War II and afterwards.

Seeing a likely lead to Luthor, Sheriff Flash

and Fire form a team to investigate. On the island,

Luthor, Dr. Polaris, and the Key are slowly navigating

their way through the island's defenses. On a

plane trip to the island, Fire shows interest

in getting to know Flash better, but Flash is

too flustered to respond. Cher is about to intervene

when the plane is attacked by two giant robotic

vultures. Well, technically that's not true.

Technically she does intervene because she gives

the plane a hard right, knocking fire onto Flash's

lap. Lap dance, anybody? Let's see here. The

team abandons the plane and destroy the robots

with the help of Chuck and his fighter jet. The

four of them arrive on the island and make their

way to the compound inside. Luthor is breaking

into the compound's vault and triggers more automated

defenses to slow them down. The team gets past

the defenses and confronts Luthor. They manage

to defeat Dr. Polaris and the key, but Luthor

forces a stalemate by taking Chuck hostage. Luthor

triggers an island self -destruct countdown,

and the villains escape, though Chuck manages

to get away from them. Shirey chooses to stay

behind and disable the self -destruct rather

than pursue. They also notice that a box in the

vault is empty. Luther and his cohorts return

to the Legion's headquarters with their prize,

the Spear of Longinus, which Hitler believed

made its bearer invincible. Luther asks what

Grodd plans to do with it, and Grodd says that

as far as he knows, the spear is completely worthless.

The whole mission was just a test of Luther's

abilities. Luther initially laughs it off, but

becomes outraged when Grodd reveals that Luther

still has to do something for him before Grodd

offers up the piece of Brainiac. Luther is outraged,

but Brainiac's voice tells him that he needs

to play along until they can get the piece of

him back. On Black Hawk Island, Shire and Chuck

pay their respects to the Black Hawk's memorial.

Fire remarks that Superman will be upset that

they let Luther get away just to keep the museum

from being destroyed. Flash smiles and says it

was worth it. I've only got like six notes. So,

okay, first, my big issue with this episode was

when the cops opened fire in the very beginning,

they could have shot Lex in the leg or the foot.

But no, that didn't happen. Because when they

first start firing on Luthor after the key grabs

him, he's still being pulled through the wall.

Yeah. I don't know. Whatever. Legion of Doom

Headquarters. Woo -hoo! That was just... Yeah,

that was nice. That was so nice. That was just

so awesome. The music cue right at the spot,

right before the main theme was epically evil.

It's the one where Grodd races up the door and

it shows off the villains standing there. It

was a great view. I mean, all those supervillains,

but unfortunately we have to deal with the Bat

embargo. Yeah, I know. Because otherwise it would

have been even better to have... I know, I know.

Some real villains. Yeah. What else you got?

Fiery Flash. Come on, Flash. For all your talk,

you're acting like a very awkward teenager. Every

time, he's tried to hit on Diana or Shaira or

whatever. Granted, we've already established

that he and Shaira are like brother and sister,

but... Which is even said in this episode. Yeah.

And I mean, seriously, he's going to act all

awkward around fire? Magnets lose their charge

if you heat them. Flame Girl on! Is that scientifically

true? I don't know. Neither do I. That's just

what Shaira said. I don't know. And speaking

of Shaira, she smacked him really hard with that

mace. Ow. She's, like, standing there, like,

pounding the mace in her hand. Like, she's like,

you know, come on, let's go. And then she wallops

him with it. The island defenses were kind of

awesome. Giant sharks with lasers. Yes. Yeah,

I didn't think of that. Giant sharks with freaking

laser beams on their heads. I didn't even think

about that. I was thinking about that the entire

time. Well, I didn't think of it because the

sharks actually have machine guns, but yeah,

same concept. Yeah, same difference. Bah, musty

old museum. Screw you, fire. Literally. Now,

now. You wouldn't have a chance. I hear she's...

Brazilian. Hey, as long as I get to watch, I

don't care. Well, isn't she bisexual in the comics?

I thought her and Ice had, like, a relationship

at one point. I have no idea. I could swear,

like, there was... It was either said or it's

very, very tongue -in -cheek about the whole

situation. I'm not sure. Which kind of explains

why Guy's all into it, but hey. One of the things

that really bugs me about the animation on Fire

is her human form. She almost looks like not

a super female bodybuilder, but she's got that

same type of build. But yeah, when she's on fire,

she looks like a skinny runway model. I'm not

really sure, so I don't know. If... Okay, I will

say this now. If Epilogue didn't happen, if you

went directly from Divided We Fall to this, this

is a fairly good season opener. But since Epilogue

did happen... This is kind of like, and I mean,

I know that they've said that they didn't know

that they were going to get 13 more, because

they kind of blew their wad with Epilogue, but

like I said back in episode 19 and episode 20,

you know, for me, Epilogue is an exclamation

point on the whole thing, and I tend to think

that that happened after Destroyer. Obviously,

it did happen after Destroyer chronologically,

but I kind of wish it would appear on the DVDs

after Destroyer. Unfortunately, it doesn't. What

about you? What do you have for I Am Legion?

I have got... It's good to see Grodd back. What

the hell are those cops doing with so much firepower?

Seriously, what the frack? Like, okay, we're

going to have little pistols. No, semi -automatic

machine guns. And we still couldn't hit the broad

side of a barn. And then, okay, as I told you

over Skype, oh, Lex, you lovable, tenacious scamp.

There you go, breaking out of jail again. Oh.

Who didn't see that one coming? Yes, who didn't

see that one coming? Apparently Faraday. Yeah.

What else? Well, I mean, Faraday specifically

admits that The locals screwed up. Well, yeah,

but Faraday specifically, I mean, it's clearly

stated that it's been close to six months to

a year since the events of Divide, We Fall because

he said that Lex has been talking to himself

ever since last summer when you guys removed

Brainiac from him. He's a supervillain and he's

talking to himself. How would you not take that

seriously? You know, right? And it's yours. Yep.

And it's good to see Shayera back in the, you

know, busting people's chops attitude. Oh, yeah.

Shayera. Getting into it with the cop. That was

great. Yeah. Let's see. So Faraday, we get reintroduced

to him and he seems entirely capable, which is

more than I could say for like 90 % of the people

that we see. Well, he'll show his capabilities

later on in the podcast episode. Let's see. JLI

moment. We get to see both fire and ice together.

Ooh, risque. She's Brazilian. So she says Yob

Shigurath, or Shayera says Yob Shigurath. Yeah.

That's another throwback to an earlier episode

where we have to deal with the whole Cthulhu

thing. Another reference there. So we see one

of the defenses of the island. It's a giant robot,

and it looks just like Iron Giant. Yeah. That

was kind of tongue -in -cheek. Yeah. So we also

see a cameo in costume of Lady Blackhawk in the

museum. Yeah. who, if people don't know who that

is, that's one of the current members of the

Birds of Prey. So the Spirit of Longinus. Oh

my god! We get a flat -out saying, oh, she's

like the big sister I never had, only, you know,

short. And I think that's all I have. There was

the comment about... The Key, who I thought was

a really cool character, being originally in

concept supposed to be someone in reference to

Brainiac, which makes sense considering he has

three of everything on him, the little dots.

So that's all I got for this one. Yeah, I'm going

to have to look this up, but I think Dr. Polaris

was voiced by Michael Rosenbaum. Let me look

this up really quick. Yeah, I just love the fact

that they're going back to paying homage to the

Blackhawks because this is the first time we've

seen whatever even happened to them past, oh,

what was that episode? Savage Time. Because Savage

Time was the World War II episode. Let's see.

Voice cast. Where's voice cast? Yes, Michael

Rosenbaum, who was uncredited as Dr. Polaris.

And Corey Burton was uncredited as the key in

Aztec. Aztec. I love Aztec. Okay, why do you

love Aztec? What's so special about Aztec? Because,

I don't know, it's like his costume, the whole

shebang, he just looks really cool. And then

I tried reading his comic and didn't get too

far. But he just, he's like Captain America crossed

with Lex. Super intelligent. Best of physical

human form. Peak physical condition. And we got

us just totally out of water, so... No, I just,

I really like the character. Plus, I mean, me

being a paleo nut. Anyway, that's what I got.

So, we are gonna move on. Is that right? Let

me run it again. Carbon -14 dating confirms that

this artifact is over 8 ,000 years old. I'm no

historian, but... That date roughly tracks with

the era of the weapon's design. And the relative

crudity of its nth metal components. I've got

to go. Shire, I wanted to... Judas Priest! Problem?

No, no. It's just, uh... Never seen you in a

dress before. You don't like it? It's, uh, fetching.

If you want one for Vixen, I can tell you where

I got it. Listen. Eliad, I caught you before

you did something stupid. Excuse me? Carter Hall.

What about him? I did some research. His birth

name is Joseph Gardner. Eliad. No. Six months

ago, he had it legally changed to Carter Hall.

He's an archaeologist, currently curator of the

Midway City Museum. Had an excellent reputation

until about five years ago, when he started claiming

that aliens landed in ancient Egypt. Aliens?

Well, then he must be a lunatic, because we all

know that there's no life on other planets. There's

more. What? Our Mr. Hall spends quite a bit of

time on the Internet. Dang, lock him up. He frequents

the I Hate Hawkgirl bulletin boards. That doesn't

mean... Up next is Shadow of the Hawk. Oh my

god. Okay, I gotta get right into this, because

I'm gonna start squeeing all over myself over

here. Are you okay? Yeah. Do you need a towel?

Well, see, you probably didn't have the same

reaction as I did, because it wasn't some male

thing, but All I've got to say is that dress.

But anyway. Oh, God. All right, so. I was kind

of like, uh -huh. That's good. Please, I'm gay.

I can enjoy fashion. Yeah, but you don't want

to undress her with your eyes, though, or anything

else. So that's the difference. That's true.

Anyways, the Justice League are battling a group

of criminals in a city and eventually manage

to subdue them as the police come to clean up

a man who crosses the police line hoping to talk

with Shire Hall. He introduces himself as Carter

Hall, an archaeologist who needs her help on

a discovery he made a Thanagarian blade apparently

on Earth since 6000 BCE. BCE? What the hell is

BCE? Before Common Era. Oh, okay. Well, I knew

it BC before Christ, but okay. All righty then.

He offers to talk to her over dinner, and she

agrees. The Justice League depart. Hall also

leaves, but his shadow lingers. Now that should

be a clue right there. Yep, no good. He ain't

no good, Shire. At the Metro Tower, Shire and

Batman run tests on the blade, confirming that

it is old, as Hall says, and genuinely Thanagarian

due to the presence of Nth Metal. As Jon Stewart

goes down the elevator, he spots Shire in a very

attractive yet short dress. Shire offers to get

one for Vixen. Just then, Batman shows up saying

that he has been researching Hall. His name was

originally Joseph Gardner, but he legally changed

it five years ago after claiming that he discovered

alien artifacts in Egypt. Additionally, he has

been near Shire before and was present at several

of her public battles. Batman concludes that

he's a stalker, and John urges her to take someone

with her as backup. Grabbing the Thanagarian

blade, she tells him that she can take care of

herself. John is upset not only at her choice,

but also that their journey into the future shows

that he and Shire are destined to be together.

Batman informs him that if he really believed

that, he wouldn't be with Vixen. Oh, Batman.

Are you still here? Still here. Okay, just making

sure. No, I'm saving my rant for the end. No.

The next day, Hall and Shea are at the tomb where

the Hall discovered the blade. He warns that

there are traps all over the tomb and knows how

to discern them. Unknown to either of them, Batman

is following them. When they reach the chamber

with the Thanagarian ruins, Hall changes into

a costume and introduces himself as K .T .R.

Hall, alias Hawkman. Oh, God, I have words to

say about that a little bit later. He claims

that he and Shire are Ketar Hall and Shire Hall,

the reincarnated souls of Thanagarian lovers

who are stranded in Egypt a millennia ago and

worshipped as gods by the people, but jealous

forces overthrew them, destroying the grand society

that the Thanagarians set up for the people.

Hawkman tells her that they learned all this

through an Absorbicron. a device that stores

ship logs and memories. As he tells her all this,

Batman is confronted by a shadowy figure who

subdues him. Shire assumes that the Observer

Kron malfunctioned and implanted the memories

of Hall into Carter, but Hawkman insists on showing

her the device, taking her to another chamber.

He shows her the ship that carried the Halls

to Earth. Before he can show her the device,

they are attacked by a pair of shadowy hawks,

hawk figures. After they are subdued, the figures

merge into a single being. Waking up, Hawkman

finds himself in Shaira captured by the Shadow

Thief, who has been following Carter for some

time. He wants access to the treasure buried

within the two Thanagarians, but he can't open

it without Hawkman's help. When Shadow Thief

threatens to kill Shaira, Hawkman submits, opening

the tomb's final chamber. Inside are the sarcophagus

and the treasures. Before he can open the door,

Batman attacks, causing Shadow Thief to hit the

door and open it without disarming the traps.

Robotic statues come to life, and Hawkman and

Batman fight them off during the battle. Sharon

manages to free herself. and goes after Shadow

Thief. He is able to make himself intangible

at will, meaning they can't touch him. However,

Shaira activates her mace, while Hawkman grabs

a torch, and Batman activates a flare. Surrounded

by light, Shadow Thief flees to the ground, causing

it to collapse. Once he and Shaira get Batman

out, Hawkman goes back for the Absorbicron, but

Shaira subdues him. Outside, Hawkman laments

that the loss of the Orbs are a crime, but Shire

still insists that he's confused. Batman says

that John Jones could help him sort through the

memories, but Hawkman insists that he and Shire

are the reincarnations of K -Tar and Shire Hall.

Shire says that they don't even know each other,

and Hawkman replies that her favorite color is

teal, she loves oysters even though they give

her heartburn, and that she wakes up at the crack

of dawn just to see the sunrise, all of which

are true, much to Shire's shock. However, Hawkman

says he is willing to wait for her and flies

off. When he is gone, Cher reveals that she knew

Batman was following her, pulling the tracer

he planted on her mace. Batman insists that it

was Hall that he didn't trust, and that it wasn't

her, and all that he heard was the reincarnation

destiny, both of which he dismisses as nonsense.

Cher, however, is not so sure. Unknown to all

others, the Sargaffagus survived the cave, an

opening to reveal its twin mummified occupants

still holding hands. Dun -dun -dun! Dun -dun

-dun! It's awe! Yeah, this is going to be really,

really quick for me. I've got exactly four notes,

or five notes. James Remar as the voice of Carter

Hall. Hell yes! I don't know who that is. You

don't know who James Remar is? Not off the top

of my head. You know I suck when it comes to

people's names and voices. Did you ever see The

Huntress on USA Network? Nope. Oh, my God. What

else is he in? He was in North Shore. He's got

this really, really commanding voice. Anyways,

I wanted to Judas Priest. That was awesome. That

was the best one ever. Damn, when I first saw

her in that dress, my jaw dropped straight to

China. Your what? My jaw dropped straight to

China. This is a line that after she changed

back to her regular uniform, when it shows her

from behind and Carter is staring, hey, you stop

oogling her ass. Eek, shadows that follow Batman.

So if Carter puts his wings on, then how the

hell can he really fly? I mean, seriously. It's

a harness. It lifts them up. But they're... I'm

pretty sure she could take hers off at some point.

No, she can't. Those are... Attached? That's

not, no. There's no way in hell Hot Girl, at

least this version of Hot Girl, there's no way

in hell she can take her wings off. I mean, we've

literally seen her in varying positions and places

where she sleeps with them on. They're attached

to her. Maybe she just can't take the harness

off. It's not a harness, though. She doesn't

wear a harness. I'm just following a different...

Yeah, you're not... Anyways. How stupid do you

think I am? Scale of 1 to 10. Funny. I meant

this. And, of course, she pulls off the bat tracer.

So what about you? What do you got? Oh, okay.

Let's see. It's a really good bubble. You can't

stop me with a bubble. It's a really good bubble.

Yeah. I put down Vavavum, Judas Priest. Why are

you still a vixen? Okay, so here's my rant. This

whole time travel stuff. So, that's just one

possible outcome of any numerous amount of outcomes,

because this is time travel. And the only thing

that it proves is that at one point, he gets

a little hot wing sex. That's the only thing

it proves. So, One night, you know, he gets a

little drunk. They both get drunk. Of course,

she also can out -drink him like nobody's business,

even if he is a Marine. Anyway, other theory.

He dumps Vixen like a sack of potatoes and goes

back to her and then goes back to Vixen. I'm

not sure. A guy can have his theory. Okay, what

else do we got? Mummies! And they're robotic

mummies! Yeah. So they're having this huge fight

and poor Shayura is just left there to hang against

the wall. No one's trying to help her. No, she's

just left to hang out. Everybody ignore the poor

Hawkgirl. And then we get to see what is in essence

the Violet. lantern power battery in its natural

form. We get to see the body of Shaira and Katar

together, arm in arm. So if you're a comic geek,

it's one of those awe moments. And that's all

I got. Yeah, I really like this episode. I kind

of figured it out. Not the very first time I

ever saw it, but the second time, obviously.

I kind of figured it out because I didn't even

know about ancient history at the time that I

saw this, when I first saw this episode. But

just that whole scene with Shadow, of course

it's Shadow Thief, but that whole scene with

him, his shadow staying behind. I kind of figured

it out, although I didn't figure it out all the

way because it turns out I was kind of wrong

about that, which we'll come up with. We'll talk

about that. Do we know if this is Hustat? No,

it is not. Okay. Because I saw the next episode

in this story arc. Yeah. No, it's not. Okay.

Because when you watch this and you're kind of

left going, well... You know, what's going on

here? Is he just a crazed stalker? I don't know

what's going on. Basically, I'll go ahead and

spoil it. No, don't spoil it. I know, but for

those people that are... The show's over four

years old. They should know by now. Hey, hey,

I haven't watched all these episodes. Shame on

you, then. I think that's all I got. I really

like this episode because I'm into the brightest

day, blackest night stuff right now. So it's

like, aw. It's nice and romantic that death can't

even keep them apart. Or is it true that he's

just some crazy stalker? Hey. I love GL's line.

He's like, well, you should at least take backup.

And she stares him down. He's like, I meant Batman.

Because obviously I, you know... Who's the crazed

stalker? Is it Carter or is it John? I don't

foresee John as a crazed stalker because he's

already had the relationship with Shia. And he's

basically... God, I really don't want to... As

much as I love... The character of Jon Stewart

in this cartoon, I don't want to have to compare

him to this, but unfortunately I do. He's kind

of like Brandon Routh's Superman brooding over

Lois in Superman Returns. He's brooding over

Shiera after what happened in Starcrossed. And

even though he's moved on and he's with Vixen,

he's still, because of that whole time travel

deal -y thing, he's still brooding over Shiera.

Oh, God, I can't believe there was a Superman

Returns reference on this damn podcast. I can't

believe you watched it. Well... I'll be honest,

I can't believe you watched that. That was not

Superman. Maybe, but not Superman. Yes. All right,

so we're going to move on. So the only way I'll

let the stone stay here is if we seal the portal

to Skarteris permanently. Fine by me. I got everything

I need. Right here. There. I doubt even I could

get back through. How you feeling? Need a lift?

No, I'm good. Courtney! You slow your butt down!

Ugh, my dad. I know. Superman tried to keep me

on the farm. Made me hide there for three years.

Big deal. I've still got a curfew. Enough cosmic

energy to trash a city and I can't stay out past

ten. Three years. On a farm. In Kansas. We'll

have Jaune probe what's left of Metallo's mind.

I want to know what he was going to say. Something's

going on, ain't it? Next up, we have Chaos at

the Earth's core. Kill me now. In Tokyo, a giant

turtle monster is rampaging through the streets.

A Justice League team consisting of Jon Stewart,

Stripe, and Stargirl are already set up a trap

but needed to lead the creature to a ship out

in the harbor. Jon ordered them to wait for a

signal, but Stargirl went ahead and tried to

set the trap for herself. Supergirl reached the

monster first, causing a large amount of barrels

to open, emitting a gas which shrunk the creature

back to its normal size. Back in the city, Stargirl

was expecting a large amount of public gratitude,

but a bunch of little girls headed to Supergirl,

who was in town for a Supergirl convention. All

Stargirl had was John, who was very displeased

at her and her attempted grandstanding. On the

trip back to Metro Tower, The Leaguers flew through

the Arctic. As Supergirl and John traded friendly

barbs, Stargirl vents to strive about Supergirl.

Suddenly, the ship is dragged through a hole

in the ground where they finally emerge in a

self -sustained ecosystem underground with a

red sun. I will argue, however, that it was pink.

Yeah, it was kind of pinkish -purple. Suddenly,

a group of lizard creatures attack, riding dinosaurs.

Unable to help due to the red sun, pink sun,

Supergirl is forced into the defensive as Lantern

Stripe and Stargirl fight off the attackers.

As they manage to drive them off, Tyrannosaurus

Rex appeared, but was killed by a man wielding

a pistol. Because, you know, there's always a

pistol. He introduced himself as Travis Morgan,

the Warlord of Shambhala, who said that he'd

been expecting them. Warlord took them to his

fortress, saying that he was a former Navy test

pilot who crashed in... Scar Terrace decades

ago, and subsequently raised a family while trying

to bring peace to the land. However, a wizard

named Deimos suddenly began raising an army using

advanced technology, and Shambhala was all that

was left to oppose him. Warlord's daughter, Jennifer,

summoned the Justice League there to help them.

Although they faced a dangerous battle, Supergirl

speaks for the Leaguers by agreeing to help.

Warlord also explains that Deimos is after the

Great Stone, an object of great power hidden

in the temple deep within the mountain the fortress

is built in. At his camp, Deimos is informed

that the Justice League by one of the soldiers

who draws the Superman crest onto the floor.

Deimos kills the soldier and then asks his military

advisors if they recognize it. From the shadows

emerge Silver Banshee and Metallo, who says he

knows the symbol very well. Meanwhile, Warlord

takes the League to the temple, where they meet

Machiste, a warrior king and friend of Warlord's.

Machiste explains that the Great Stone healed

him of the Black Death, but warns that the stone

is a double -edged sword, used only by those

that are the most desperate. As behest, the monks

open the doors, showing the Justice League the

Great Stone, a giant piece of kryptonite. As

Supergirl doubles over in pain, the Lantern throws

up a shield around her. while Stripe closes the

door. Supergirl says that if she wasn't powerless,

that piece of kryptonite would have killed her.

Just then, a jaguar comes in and transforms into

Shakira, injured and on the verge of collapse.

Because those hips don't lie. Deimos has come

to claim the stone. At the siege wall, Deimos

and his army amass. As Warlord leads its troops

into battle, Lantern throws up a shield, protecting

the siege wall from... being destroyed by artillery

fire, while Stripe and Stargirl join the defenders.

Despite being told to stay behind the walls,

Supergirl grabs a sword and joins the battle.

Deimos' army is larger, but Stripe's technology

and Lantern and Stargirl's power manage to even

the odds. However, Silver Banshee arrives, further

giving Deimos the edge. Lantern is able to silence

Banshee, however she managed to escape. Breaking

through the mountain, Deimos and his men reach

the temple, while Warlord... and Stargirl try

to stop them. Temos is killed when he falls off

a cliff, battling Warlord, but Stargirl is knocked

out by Metallo. However, Supergirl manages to

damage Metallo's arm and bury him under a statue,

but his kryptonite battery is killing her. Fleeing

to the fortress, Supergirl is grabbed and cornered

by Metallo. As he grabs her by the neck, Supergirl

manages to cut the kryptonite out of Metallo,

but is too weak to free herself. Fortunately,

Stargirl arrives, hurling the kryptonite away,

and the battle... First Skartaris is over. In

the caves, Stargirl tends to Supergirl's wounds

while Lantern interrogates Metallo. John points

out his dwindling reserve power and Metallo agrees

to talk. Before he can name his benefactor, his

mind shorts out, leaving him catatonic. As Warlord

checks in on them, John announces his intention

to take the Great Stone with them. Supergirl...

Sorry, I almost said Powergirl there. Supergirl...

argues that the stone can do real good in Skarteris,

and Warlord wants it to stay. John agrees to

leave the stone on the condition that the entry

to Skarteris is permanently sealed. Warlord is

fine with that, saying his family is more than

enough reason to stay. In the Arctic, John finishes

sealing up the portal while Supergirl flies off,

soon followed by Stargirl. A stripe Stripe tells

her to slow down. Stargirl complains about how

her stepfather is so overprotective, while Supergirl

counters that Superman is equally overprotective.

As the two girls argue in a friendly manner,

John tells Stripe that he wants Jon Jones to

probe Metello's mind as he wants to know who

Metello is working with. Stripe is equally in

the dark, but he realizes that whatever it is,

something is out for the league. Yes. Your thoughts,

sir? Because the first one's actually really

funny. Yeah, I see. I knew I should have sent

you these before I wrote down the notes. Eat

my sparkles, turtle. It made me think of Jubilee,

honestly. Before she went vampire. I got to say,

I absolutely love it. I said this before a while

ago when we had a Supergirl -centric episode.

I think it was the one where she and Tit Clone

were going at each other's throats. God, what

is that episode? It's the one with her and Green

Arrow. Oh, crap, I forget. It's the one where

they end up in that building with her green arrow

in question. I forget the name of the episode

off the top of my head. But I mentioned back

then that I hated that version of her costume.

And I love that she finally changed into the

more classic Supergirl. Red and tights. Yes.

Well, not really tights. It's more of a skirt.

But anyway. Supergirl con. You leave Supergirl

alone. Whack! She kicked me. What the hell? Oh,

I love that. Oh, God. Get over it, Stargirl.

Just get over it. Warlord of where? So the suppliers

are Metallo and Silver Banshee. Lame. I don't

know. Silver Banshee was pretty cool. Nice. never

really cared for that character. One dude, she

screams and she makes people age. I just don't

care for the character design. Not necessarily.

The powers are fine, I just don't like the design

on her. I like the design that she had in Public

Enemies. Yeah, that was pretty cool. So the Great

Stone. Just a ginormous piece of kryptonite.

How exactly did that heal him? I mean, was it

just that the radiation killed off whatever the

black death bacteria was in him? I probably,

I don't know. It just makes me go, what? I'm

not sure. Mattel, mine go boom. I know, right?

Oh, it's so funny. Oh, God. Boom. Cha -da -da

-da -da -boom. Oh, God. Yeah, so what do you

got for this one? Oh, let's see. Uh, Gamera with

a toupee. And when we first saw this, I really

did think this was... Oh, the annoying little

camera boy. Which, we just said his name, too.

Jimmy Olsen. Jimmy Olsen. Because in the comics,

he turned into a giant turtle. But yeah, I was

like, oh God, it's going to be Jimmy. Oh, little

bastard. You just don't like Jimmy Olsen, do

you? It's like, okay, for ginger kids like me,

when you're growing up and, you know, what have

you got for superheroes out there? You've got

Jimmy Olsen or Guy Gardner. Who am I going to

choose? Hello, Wally West. He always had his

mask on. Not always. We found out in Starcross

he has red hair. Yeah, but I didn't know that

when I was reading comics. Well... Oh, what else

have I got? So, yay, Warlord. Like, lame comic,

but you get all the other eye candy. I get Warlord.

Yay. Let me have that. You know, honestly, I

like more eye candy like Shiera. I mean, like

Supergirl, I just... I like the way she looks,

but I just didn't really. And Stargirl, she's

way too young. See, I like Stargirl as a character.

Like, I thought she was cool way back when she

was just stars. Yeah, I didn't mind Stargirl

when she appeared in Smallville. Because obviously

the actress was a little bit older than the way

that the character was portrayed here. She had

the sparkles. I don't remember. It's been so

long. But, yeah, I don't know. But anyway, continue.

I will say yay for Stargirl having, like, Starman

staff. That was really cool. Yep. So, yeah, Kara's

all grown up. Even her hair's longer. Kara -chan,

kawaii no desu. My stepdad is a mecha. Mecha

Celestia. And it's so true. Like, anything in

Japan, it's gone within, like, a month. So, props

to that. Again, that's not red sun. That's pink.

And in the background, when they're having conversations

with Warlord, like, poor Kara's there, like,

trying to get a workout. She's trying to lift

these poor boulders, and she's not doing a good

job at all. So seeing Deimos destroy the poor

little dino dude, it couldn't help but think,

God, you ruined so many good rugs that way, Deimos.

Why are you doing that? Now that you mention

that, the only thing I can think of is when the

guy in Lethal Weapon 2 is looking around to see

if there's new plastic on the floor. In Lethal

Weapon 2, there's this South African diplomat.

who shot someone in his office, and the body

landed on a plastic mat, and they just rolled

the plastic up to take the body away. You gotta

do what you gotta do. Yeah. What else do we got?

Supergirl, you stay. Okay, never mind. At this

point, you think he would have known by now.

Yeah. What else? So, yay for exploding charges

in people's heads. Oh, God. That's the big conspiracy

of this season, until they finally end up figuring

it out. Do you have something exploding in your

head or not? Yeah. What else? And then we see

Kara channeling her inner Shira. Yeah. And that's

all I got. Yes. So we are going to move on. The

proposed accords are far too drastic. With all

due respect, princess, we're talking about committing

hundreds of billions of dollars and nobody's

even proven the existence of global warming.

My mother's government fully supports the findings

of her scientists. And those are the vast majority

of scientists here in man's world. My government

does not accept those studies. Then accept the

evidence of your eyes. There's a Viking ship

at the bottom of this mountain, hidden in ice

for 1 ,100 years. If it weren't for global warming,

we wouldn't even know about it. Yes, and it was

clever PR for our host to hold the talks here.

But it is not proof. You have to take this seriously.

Atlantis has already withdrawn from the World

Assembly over this. And they aren't the only

country considering action. Are you suggesting

Themyscira might do the same? If your pollution

continues to affect my home... My mother is less

likely to withdraw than she is to attempt a military

solution. As a last resort only, of course. Excuse

me. Agent Faraday, what are you doing here? Not

smoking. Want some? No, thanks. I'm here with

the special security team. The vice president

is attending. But you know that already. I saw

you reading him the riot act earlier. I'm not

much of a diplomat. Don't sell yourself short,

lady. You're an international incident waiting

to happen. By the way, if you raise your voice

to the VP again, my men are under orders to shoot

you. And finally, to another shore. In Scandinavia,

a glacier thaws partially, and the remains of

a Viking ship are discovered frozen inside. Aboard

the Watchtower, Diana is preparing to attend

a summit on global warming on behalf of the Mascara.

She tries to convince Jean to go with her. Until

this point, Jean has spent nearly all of two

years in the Watchtower as monitor. Diana takes

him to task for spending too much time cooped

up and challenges him to interact more with humanity.

At the Legion... of Doom's headquarters, Grodd

calls a meeting of several supervillains. Lex

reports that he's been using his scientific genius

to augment the abilities of several Legion members.

Grodd then hands out a mission. The Viking ship

is that of Prince John, a legendary warrior who

was cursed with invulnerability by the gods due

to his illicit love affair with the Valkyrie,

so as to prevent him from dying in battle and

thus reunite with his love. If the Legion can

steal his corpse, then they should be able to

create that power for themselves. At a conference,

Diana is not doing well, largely because of her

frustration with the other delegates' refusal

to accept the scientific consensus on the effects

of global warming. Why does that sound familiar?

When she steps outside to gather herself, she

notices Special Agent King Faraday enjoying a

piece of bubblegum who mentions he is there as

part of the U .S. Vice President's security detail.

Then a rumble shakes the meeting place and she

suits up. At the base of the mountain, heatwave

is melting through the ice to free the ship,

while Giganta, Devil Ray, and Killer Frost hold

off the local security guards, who warn them

that if they continue, the mountain will collapse.

Diana battles the Legion members, but is severely

wounded by a poison stinger from Devil Ray. Agent

Faraday and his men provide reinforcements, but

Diana has to call the Watchtower for help. She

insists that she needs John's abilities, and

he and Green Arrow beam down. Regains the advantage,

but John wonders why the Legion hasn't retreated

when they should have. He tries to read Giganta's

mind, but it unexpectedly shuts down. What little

he is able to read of her mind tells him that

the Legion's plan. Just then, heatwave has melted

enough of the ice for a submarine controlled

by the Legion to grapple the block of ice holding

the ship and pull it free. The tremors cause

a huge avalanche to roll down the mountain towards

the summit building. The League divides. Green

Arrow boards a submarine. Diana dives underwater

to try to free the ship, while Jean seizes Killer

Frost and flies her to the top of the summit

building, telling her to stop the avalanche with

her powers or else be buried along with him in

it. Fighting the effects of the poison, Diana

engages Devil Ray underwater and manages to crack

his helmet, forcing him to surface. Green Arrow

disables a good number of the sub's crew, but

is finally taken prisoner. However, the sub is

surrounded by a trio of U .S. Navy subs, led

by Faraday, and the crew are forced to surrender.

On top, Killer Frost manages to save the summit

building, though she is exhausted by the effort.

Diana recovers from the poison, thanks to an

antidote found on Devil Ray. The ship is recovered,

and... The Legion members are taken into custody.

She and Green Arrow agree that the recent villain

activity is a sign of something bigger, but Jaune

tells them that they will have to solve the mystery

without him. Diana's words and the fate of Prince

Jaune. Jaune. Jaune has come to realize that

if he does not learn to live with the humans,

he will be alone forever. Diana insists on giving

the ancient Viking ship a proper burial rite,

sending it and the remains of Prince John into

the sun. John takes the sleeve of his teammates,

beams down to Earth, and takes on a human guise

in order to join their world. Okay, so tell us

how you really feel. Boring! Dot, dot, dot, dot,

dot, dot, dot. Now, this, when I first wrote

that note, it comes in the very beginning of

the episode, when Grodd is telling this story.

I don't know, I just... You're not one for exposition,

are you? Well, I am if it makes sense to me,

which this makes sense, that's fine, but it just...

I mean, this episode, the last episode, and the

two episodes we did, I think in episode 17 or

18, the ones with the new god stuff, all those

episodes are... They're fine. They're okay. But

they're not episodes that absolutely capture

me. Now, I do have other notes that, you know,

certain things I really enjoyed about this episode.

Like, raise your voice to the VP again. My men

are under orders to shoot you. Wonder Woman points

at bracelets. She's like, you could try. That'll

go down. Yes. And then, I don't know about you,

but I specifically remember this. I remember

watching it as a kid. And one of the times I

remember watching it was during Hurricane Glory

in 1987 in Massachusetts. The old Wonder Woman

TV series with Linda Carter. And there's a Linda

Carter reference when Diana spins around and

does the whole Wonder Woman transformation. I

thought that was awesome. I love that. The soldiers

fire on Giganta's tits. They want to see the

ripples? What's the matter, honey? Break a nail?

Oh, Green Arrow. God. That's so hilarious. They

need more GA. Yes. Yes. And then, of course,

he comes back when he's going to the sub. And

I'm not going to do it justice. I'm going to

have to grab the audio for the episode. Dun,

dun, dun, dun. He comes with his own theme music.

I know. It's so awesome. He's not very good at

that whole stealth thing. Yeah, well... Oh, God.

And then the first thing I thought of when I

saw this was... Actually, the first thing I thought

of was... You've seen the Bond movie Goldeneye,

haven't you? A long time ago. With Pierce Brosnan

and all that. A long time ago. It was the first

Bond movie in like 14 years. And I know I'm probably

getting it right. It was the first Bond movie

since License to Kill. with Timothy Dalton came

out in 95. And there's a character in there called

Xenia Onatop. Yes. Miss Onatop uses her legs

to kill her prey. But I have a twist on that

because the first thing I thought of when I saw

Wonder Woman doing that to Devil Ray, I was like,

Wonder Thigh's powers activate. It's one of the

extra bonus powers. Exactly. I can get my lasso.

Don't bother. Yes. Use your thighs. I love how

John finally realizes that Diana is right, and

then at the very end, John Jones, the detective.

Mm -hmm. Because even though it does, I mean,

it's, correct me if I'm wrong, it is the design

of John Jones, the detective. He's obviously

not, since he just transformed into that, that's

an homage to that, but he's not actually at the

police station yet, obviously, but that's what

that. was homaging is is john as as as the detective

right i believe so which is that was in um new

frontier yep my brave new world no uh no no it

was justice league new frontier the uh the dc

universe animated original movie yep yep so what

about you what do you got uh global warning okay

the very first couple minutes am i global warming

anyone oh damn That's right. I did have to say,

wow, Diana. I didn't think that was her, actually,

when I first saw it. Yeah. The Hermit Jean. And

I'm thinking, like, this entire time, where's

Miss Martian? Like, where's Migan in all this?

Because he's not... He's the only green Martian.

He's not the only Martian. And then props for

bringing up Odin. I'm not a heathen, but yay

for bringing up Odin, which is badass. And then

the Valkyries. We still don't know what Grodd's

plotting. Killer Frost brings up a great point.

What exactly are you plotting? Because you haven't

bothered to even tell us. We'll find out later.

A villainous co -op. Oh, no, they bring up evil

cherries. More Faraday, which I thought was awesome.

He's like, oh, I'm not out here smoking. I'm

like, oh, nice anti -drug reference there, kid.

I'm chewing bubblegum. You kids should try that.

The classic transformation. Yeah. What else?

Oh, another great GA line. And Black Canary said

a buzzsaw arrow was self -indulgent. I know.

His own theme music. Okay, so she's saying we're

going to give it a proper burial. I'm like, she's

going to light it on fire? And she does. Kind

of, yeah. We're going to set it into the sun.

I'm pretty sure that's not entirely accurate,

but I don't know. Again, I'm not heathen, so

I don't. I don't know all the Ace of True and

Viking traditions. Yes. Although I was very surprised

that they didn't throw in Ice in this episode.

Why? Well, Ice is Scandinavian, and her people

do date back to the time period where Prince

John was around. Plus, she is kind of one of

those, you know, beloved daughters of Odin who

have all that wonderful ice powers. Because if

they did something like that, it would be a little

bit more like, okay, now we get some more backstory

and we understand what was going on with Prince

John. Right, yeah. Do we know if Prince John

was a throwback to an old cartoon or old comic?

I'm not sure. I didn't see anything on the wiki

about it, but I could be wrong. I'm not sure,

though. Okay, because the art style seemed very

reminiscent of Prince Valiant. Like that era

comics. So that's all I've got other than notes

for the next episode. Yeah. Well, we'll take

that when we get to the next episode. Yes. Um,

so yes, we will, uh, I'm going to take a quick

break and hear some audio. I may put GA's theme

music in there and back with the outro. That

was so awesome. So that's it for this episode

of Secret Origins. Overall, I'm kind of liking

To Another Shore after watching it again. It's

not as boring as I thought it was that we kind

of talked it out, but the main two episodes I

absolutely love are I Am Legion and Shadow of

the Hawk. Out of this batch. I think those are

probably the stars of this group. Yes, very much

so. Thank you for joining us here on the Secret
