About this Episode

The final episode of ToonCast marks two years to the day since the show's launch on June 1st, 2009. Dave Jones-Mike and Steve Megatron reflect on 100 episodes of animated series discussions with ranked lists covering favorite shows, underrated gems, worst episodes covered, influential people in animation, and standout characters and villains. The hosts share behind-the-scenes insights about production challenges, audio quality improvements over time, and listener voicemails celebrating the show's run, while teasing upcoming spinoff podcasts including Legends of the Dark Knight and ToonCast Beyond.

Hi, you're listening to Tunecast. I don't know

what to say, the monkeys won't do. And I also

don't know what to say about those crazy producers

from the GeekCast Radio Network. They're driving

me crazy! You're listening to the GeekCast Radio

Network. Ha -cha -cha -cha -cha! This is inconceivable!

Eh, cut. No, don't cut. Let the cameras roll

and record it for posterity whilst I give this

two -bit nimrod a severe dressing down. Sir,

you have desecrated the spirit of show business

make -believe by using real bullets. Cut! No,

don't cut! Now get rid of this stupid thing,

take your little prop gun, and stick to the script!

Cut! No, don't cut! And another thing! Expect

a call from my attorneys about this unfortunate

incident. And brother, when they call, you'd

better - Eh, now can we cut? You smug son of

a - Tune in next week for a much better episode.

For now though, courage. Hello and welcome to

the 100th episode of Tooncast brought to you

by the Geekcast or Radio Network. I am your host,

Dave Jones -Mike, and today I'm joined for one

last time by Steve Megatron, hello. Hello. And

Kevin Optimus Solo Thompson. Oh shit, what are

we gonna do now? And me, Optimus Solo. Maybe

we can fix it in the editing. Today we are going

to be reminiscing on all the cartoons we've talked

about over the course of this podcast, and on

the podcast in general. So, what have you been

up to, sir? Well, as most people will notice

by the time this releases, plenty of website

updates. More so, imagery updates. Hard. Yes.

We be going for the Black Pearl, we are. And

the Fountain of Youth and whatever else they

looked for. Yes. Yes, we'll be doing that. And

then, of course, the featured guest area will

have had somewhat of a new facelift to it. Yes.

So Tooncast 100, it's been two years to the day.

uh... we're releasing this june first twenty

eleven uh... it's been uh... a wild ride i'll

tell you that uh... you know i was thinking before

we started recording this that technically tunecast

is gc rn's version of spider -man for marvel

or DC's big three Batman Superman like Tooncast

technically is the flagship show only for one

thing The fact that it launched the same day

that we launched the network episode zero went

out June 1st 2009 and It's it's just been one

wild ride. I mean from all the guest hosts from

Kevin coming back You know just all the great

cartoons. We've talked about and what we're gonna

do here in episode 100 is We're actually gonna

segment it into different sections of top lists

and favorite lists over the past 100 episodes

that we have Steve and I have both made our lists

independently of each other. We do not know what's

on each other's lists and Each segment in between

each segment you're going to hear multiple theme

songs over the past 100 episodes It's the only

way I can think of to work in the theme songs

You're also gonna hear a lot of the promos that

we've gotten from the voice actors and actresses

that we've had the chance to talk with as well

Do you have any initial thoughts before we get

into doing the lists? Well as always with All

good things, they all must come to an end at

some point. And this show definitely has had

many high points. Granted, there have been times

when it's been in the crapper, but that's ...

Well, it's because of certain shows that were

covered. It wasn't because of anybody in particular.

It was not anybody's doing specifically. It's

just ... That's how ... The shows were that were

covered and yeah, there was nothing that could

be done for them Yeah, now I will say upfront

that I actually went back this past month and

I listened to the first at least seven eight

nine episodes of tune cast the first six episodes

in general, I will say that You know From episode

zero to episode six. Back then we were still

learning. You know, back then I had a different,

I didn't have Pamela Pro, I just had Pamela Call

Recorder, which was a completely different version

as to what I have now. Back then I was still

using a headset. I think all of us at that point

were still using headsets. And while there are

some great USB headsets out there, I'm sorry,

I will probably never use an actual microphone

headset ever again. I may buy some radio cans

or something, maybe some Bose headphones or something

eventually, but I will never use an actual USB

headset ever again, now that I have my condenser

mic and all that. For those of you who may just

Becoming into this show Even though the first

Like I said five or six episodes the audio quality

isn't that great the conversation is still there

And it's still great conversation on those five

or six episodes for those of you who might listen

to the holiday episode With Kevin myself and

the television from the television .com That

episode we were it also depends on Skype issues

that episode we were having horrible horrible

Skype issues and it's not where we Wanted it's

not that I wanted it to come out that I'm talking

over them or the audio isn't lined up It's just

back then it just was it was out of my control

and that day that Saturday we spent three hours

recording that holiday episode and that's three

hours of audio we couldn't get back the audio

quality itself isn't the sound of it isn't bad

it's just the timing the the lining up that was

bad so for those of you who are first starting

out please go back to the beginning please know

that we you know strive for the best audio quality

as possible even though back then we were still

learning oh yeah So now we're gonna get into

the lists and up next we're gonna talk about

our favorite show as the Triforce of Power. Whoever

gets both Triforces will rule this land forever.

You must help me, Link. Nice job, hero. Hey,

excuse me, Princess. It is a legend no one will

forget. Everyone thought King Koopa had left

the Mushroom Kingdom. And then, his dualship

attacked. King Koopa was back, with the greatest

danger ever known, his Koopa Kings. Using their

new superpowers, the Super Mario Brothers rescued

Princess Toadstool and beat back... Super Mario

Super Mario World Super Mario World It's time

for us to rank our favorite shows and different

versions of stuff. Basically the way we're going

to do this is we each have our own lists. The

lists that will be listed here in this section

are our ten favorite shows that we covered over

the course of the show or five best from each

decade we covered. Five under the radar shows

that listeners should check out if they get a

chance. five best shows we didn't get a chance

to cover on this show five most important or

influential shows to the business of to the business

and to cartoons in general that we covered five

worst shows we covered over the course of the

show five shows that we loved as kids that you

are served better not to watch as an adult in

other words just live off the memories instead

of killing them So yes, and the way we're gonna

do this is I'm gonna give my number 10 Steve's

gonna give his number 10 and we're going to Discuss

back and forth so it alternate So I guess I will

go first my number 10 favorite show that we covered

actually is I'm pitting shows against each other

and I do this a couple of times on some of my

lists. My number 10 is the Smurfs versus Snorks.

The Smurfs and the Snorks episodes. I really

love doing those because originally those two

episodes, Smurfs and Snorks, originally I was

gonna have it be one episode and have it as a

versus. So that's my number 10. Smurfs is a great,

great, great cartoon for the 80s. it just had

great great storytelling and Snorks on the other

hand is one of the original under the sea type

of cartoons. Still kind of follow the same thing

as Smurfs but I just I like the characters in

Snorks a little bit better. What's your number

10? No you're gonna laugh but mine aren't in

any particular order but I would have to say

Animaniacs. And that's because, well, not only

was the show kind of crazy, but the voice cast

in it made the characters epically so. And just

some of the segments, they had Mime Time, they

had introductions to other shows that eventually

got spinoffs like Freakazoid, Pinky and the Brain.

You just have all these wildly different characters,

and it's pretty much a lot of the same voice

cast doing a lot of them, even if they are doing

different accented voices. I love that show.

That's one of the few 90s cartoons that I can

still watch today and not get bored with it.

My number nine is the holiday episode that we

did with the televix in which I mentioned earlier

in the intro We covered Charlie Brown Christmas

Rudolph the Red -Nosed Reindeer grandma got run

over by a reindeer frosted the snowman. I know

I'm leaving one out We covered six cartoons in

that episode that was even though the actual

audio itself is kind of jumbled That was just

a fun record because when we were recording it,

it didn't come out like when we were, like I

would say something, Kevin would say something,

television would say something. You know what

I mean? It came out like you and I are talking

now. So when we were doing it in the moment.

And that was just through, that was one of the

funnest Saturdays I've had doing, you know, Tooncast

or any of the other shows that we've done. It

was just one of those most fun records talking

about holiday cartoons. So that's my number nine.

What about you? my number nine would be Sonic

the Hedgehog and It's a dark series. Yes the

dark series. Yes, and that's because I mean for

one the freaking theme song is awesome I just

love that theme song and If it weren't for the

fact that it has a loud explosion for when he

runs It would be one of those few that I could

sit there and listen to Mm -hmm, which that one's

kind of like that that part in it I mean it's

cool, but it's it's very loud if you're listening

to it on a normal volume right and But the whole

darkness of the show. I mean it was just great

you had you know Probably the best that's probably

the best voice cast For any of the sonic shows

to date. Oh Yeah, yeah, and and that's why I

like that show so much My number eight is DuckTales.

Everybody wants to go down to Duckburg. I mean,

that's one of those shows you hear the first

second, or you hear the first half a second of

the theme song. You immediately know what it

is. And DuckTales. Even though event Disney's

Adventures of the Gummy Bears is really what

launched Disney into cartoon television as far

as cartoon series television DuckTales is what

really made it popular. Oh Yeah, and everybody

loves that show. The best part would be watching

Scrooge go around in his money pit. I wish I

had a money pit. I do too We should petition

for one Yes, exactly All donations can be sent

to geekcastradio .com. Yes. What about you? What's

your number eight? My number eight is probably

Freakazoid, and I love this freaking show. Something

we didn't get to here on Tooncast. We didn't

get to it? No, we never did Freakazoid. Well,

then I'm changing to Darkwing Duck. Okay, that's

another show. I freaking love the theme song

on that's cool. It's like a Disney duck version

of Batman I know and that's that's why that's

so iconic Yep, yeah. Yeah Darkwing was awesome

The villains just all the all the spoofs on all

the Batman villain type stuff and just his Technically

Morgana even though she's a you know, she's a

witch or whatever she is She's almost Darkwing's

Catwoman, if you think about it. Yeah, pretty

much. I mean, they pretty much had a lot of the

same characters that kind of paralleled Batman

characters. Yeah, yeah. And the greatest thing

about Darkwing was you had crossover with Ducktales

because Launchpad started on Ducktales and he

moved to Darkwing. And then you had Gizmo Duck

show up. Yup. Yup. Very cool. My number seven

is episode one the Nintendo cartoons This was

something that It's actually funny, you know,

you're you said yours wasn't your your number

eight was was Darkwing Originally for tooncast

is a little bit of tooncast trivia here for you

Originally when I had the very before I even

met, you know before Kevin and I even started

before Dion and I even Started talking the original

person that I was going to do the show with one

of the reasons why we were going to start tune

cast was simply because this week in geek did

a Disney afternoon Disney afternoon episode and

They had mentioned dark winged duck and it got

me sparked into into watching dark ring again

Originally episode 1 of tune cast was going to

be dark winged duck. However, my number 7 is

the Nintendo cartoons Say what you want about

them They are classic for their time. I Love

Captain N. I love You know Legend of Zelda Super

Mario Brothers Super Show I love all of them

and they it was just so great to be able to talk

to talk about video game cartoons Yes, yes your

number seven my number seven is Swat cats Now

this show I did not realize until we did the

top 100 I did not realize it had more than one

intro. Oh Really see I knew that see I thought

it was the one I used for I Mean, I think I knew

it had it but I didn't know that they actually

used it. Yeah, I I like the rock version which

I used for the single episode of GCR and wars

but That gets you uplifted for the show, but

then you've got ... It's another one of those

type of dark wing -ish shows. It's like you have

a bunch of cats that run the world. There are

no humans. They're all cats. Then you have other

creatures that happen to come along, but there's

still variations of cats in some way, for the

most part. Some of the villains, you've got the

Metallicats, you've got ... I can't remember

the main bad guy's name. Oh, Dark Cat. Yes, Dark

Cat. And you've got Frank Walker playing one

of the cats in there, the villains. You've got

the original Donatello playing one of the SWAT

cats. The whole show, the voice cast is great.

The action in that show is great, but it touches

a lot of storylines that other shows hadn't touched.

particular time. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, SWATcast

is awesome. I'll be talking about that a little

bit later, actually. Not on any of these lists,

but later down in other stuff. My number six

is the He -Man and She -Ra episode we did. I

intentionally... made this four hours, 27 minutes,

and 28 seconds long. It is our longest episode

to date for Tooncast. The only reason why it's

four hours, 27 minutes, and whatever seconds

long is because I, at the time back then, was

able to rip all of the special feature audio

off of the DVDs, all of the behind the scenes

stuff. If you cut out all of that, if you just

look at Kevin and I's discussion, it's only like

a two hour and 28 minute. episode. But I grew

up with He -Man. I didn't watch She -Ra so much.

I mainly put them together because of The Secret

of the Sword, the film that was released in theaters,

which is just essentially the first five episodes

of She -Ra. But growing up, I loved He -Man and

the Masters of the Universe. And when we get

to Tooncast Beyond, New Adventures and 2002 will

be covered eventually. But the 1983 He -Man was

just awesome. I loved that as a kid. So what's

your number six? GI Joe. Yes. And granted, we

only covered part of GI Joe in... We covered

the Sunbow series. Yes, the Sunbow. The Deke

will be... This particular series, I actually

was unfamiliar with to begin with. I started

out with the Deek series and actually worked

my way backwards, which is kind of odd. I always

had the G .I. Joe movie that is Sunbow and that's

what sparked my interest in G .I. Joe. With that,

the original show, you have the infamous You

have Chris Lata in there. I mean, he's... Cobra

Commander, yes. To me, there is no better than

him for Cobra Commander. Scott McNeil does pretty

damn close. I mean, you could fool me with him.

But anybody else, I don't really care for their

Cobra voice. But you have a lot of great... voice

cast in there. You have Sergeant Slaughter, the

wrestling guy in there. I don't like Serpentor

that was introduced in there either, too much,

just because it took away from Cobra. It kind

of led to the Megatron, Starscream type struggle,

which I think was kind of bad to do in G .I.

Joe. I liked a lot of the plot lines in red laser,

blue laser. The slogan knowing is half the battle

The other half is killing well the other no the

other half is red is red laser and blue laser

No knowing no no no you're not getting it knowing

is half the battle was the slogan Flint Dilley

has said the other half of the battle is killing

well Yes, but fans have deduced that the other

half is one quarter red laser one quarter blue

laser Which could be considered killing too because

lasers. Yeah, but anyways But yeah, this shows

so great and thanks to shout factory. We actually

have reasonably priced GI Joe DVDs out there,

you know My number five is tiny tune adventures,

I love this show it's so hilarious and Look at

it as its own entity, but I can see the Looney

Tunes influence but this show is Completely 90s.

I mean you go back and you watch this show today.

Oh my god You're just gonna like stare at like

what and then you're gonna realize. Oh, yeah,

it was the 90s I mean this show I like it for

what it is, but it's so dated, but it's not it's

not bad I'm not saying that it's dated badly,

but it's like it's like oh 90s cheesiness yay

And Tress McNeil as Babs was great Danny Cooksy

is Montana max crease summer is Elmira even though

I didn't really care for the character of Elmira

Charlie Adler as Buster just all around a great

great cast and everybody loves Oh, what's his

name? Gogo, the Dodo. There we go. The Dodo thing

from Wackyland. Yeah. But with that show, I'm

glad that they did it just because it was a continuation

of Looney Tunes, in essence. Yeah. Well, they

had the Looney Tunes teaching them. Yes, and

it showed the direct descendants of Looney Tunes.

Well kind of they're not real. I mean they are

and they aren't they're more they more so made

it as like protege's But it's Buster is not a

dense though. I mean it's honest obviously it's

their protege's but I mean it's Right, but Buster

is not bugs his son though. See that's the thing

That's what I'm saying. There's no way that they

yes. I see what you're saying and I kind of agree

with you, but in actuality They're not related

to each other What's your number five? Looney

Tunes. And that's because that is one of the

longest running cartoon series pretty much of

all time. I mean, it keeps coming back, but I

mean, it's never as good as the original stuff

that came out pre -90s pretty much. But yeah,

I love Bugs Bunny, I love Daffy, I love all the

characters in that, whereas some of the newer

cartoons, it's kind of hard to like a lot of

characters that are in it. Usually you have your

set few. With Looney Tunes, I like all of them.

Granted, there's a lot of subtle things that

they would never get away with in cartoons today,

which I think is kind of stupid. It's still something

great that, if you were introduced to it growing

up, it's one of those shows that you just can't

really, it leaves a nice spot that you always

loved the show. Yeah, yeah, I mean I love Looney

Tunes. It's not on this part of my list But it's

it's on a future list that we're gonna be doing

My number four one of my favorite episodes that

we that we've done so far Here on tooncast was

the Thundercats episode because that sparked

the Thundercats versus Silverhawks Argument between

Kevin and I And that was one of the shows where

I watched almost every single episode in the

span of a week. Like we had just finished the

Tiny Toons episode on that Sunday. On that Sunday

I immediately started watching my Thundercats

DVDs and I didn't stop until... like that next

Saturday because we were recording back then

we recorded Tune Cats Sunday nights so I didn't

stop watching until like Saturday night Sunday

morning of the week that we're supposed to record

that and I love Thundercats I love the theme

it's one of the I don't care what Kevin says

it is one of the best 80s theme songs ever It's

very catchy, everybody knows it. I always wanted

the sword from the cartoon. I wanted like a show

accurate Sword of Omens, which we're kind of

getting now with the re -emergence of Thundercats

and all that, but I don't know, whatever. But

yeah, that's Thundercats. Great voice acting

from Earl Hyman, Earl Hammond, who played Mumrah.

Bob McFadden who played Snarf, Larry Kenney who

we interviewed here on Tunecast who played Lionel,

Jackle Man, and a few others. Just overall a

really, really great voice cast. Peter Newman.

Just awesome. What's your number for... I would

have to say Justice League slash Unlimited. Episode

99. Because... Well, 9899. Yes. Because... It

has a nice mix to it. It actually is much more

plot -driven. It has more continuations. It's

in the same timeline. There's an actual set timeline.

It mixes with all the other DC animated universe

shows. You have a much better quality show animation,

voice acting, and plot than the original Super

Friends cartoons. It's just overall more enjoyable,

and I'll get into the other later, but this show

I could sit and watch and not fall asleep. It'll

keep me entertained. It's not boring in any sense

of the word. This show has been quite iconic

and has actually led to future ideas for newer...

Justice League -ish shows? Yeah, like Young Justice

and the DC Universe animated original movies

have done a couple of Justice League stories

and stuff like that. So I mean it's helped the

overall spectrum of hero animation go to a new

level. Yep. For me, my number three is the Voltron

episode we did. Everybody that grew up in the

80s Loves Voltron. I mean it's one of those shows

that has a good origin story. It has good character

development The music in this show. This was

as I said way back in tune cast episode 4 You

know, this was the first cartoon to use stereo

sound back then And it was just amazing The theme

song, the five lions forming into Voltron when

they formed the Blazing Sword. Just so, so awesome.

What about you, what's your number three? Batman

Beyond. And the reason why I like this, not only

is the music awesome, like it's got a nice techno

awesome sound to it, it's got a great intro.

But it picks up from where Batman animated series

left off. And again, you have really good voice

acting in this, just because a lot of the same

people worked on all the DC animated universe.

And you get a new Batman, which had never been

done before. They'd had other people in the comics

or whatnot fill in for Batman, but not a true

successor. Yeah, this was the first teen like

teenage Batman and that was a really cool concept

and idea and granted You know this spawned spider

-man unlimited to copy in essence the new bat

suit, but That's Not here nor there, but the

animation on this was great. They had new villains

They had some that came back just if not nothing

more for a cameo in an episode And some of them

managed to redeem themselves and others, you

could tell, have never changed. But the overall

show on that was just, it was an original concept,

which was something totally unheard of and I

think everybody was afraid to try, but thankfully

they did try. It led to one of the greatest animated

movies of all time, Batman Beyond Return of the

Joker. Yes, and it has some of the greatest voice

cast in it, combining people from the animated

series of Batman and Batman Beyond, creating

the ultimate mix with flashbacks and tying back

into that show. It's one of the most awesome

Batman cartoons of all time. My number two is

Animaniacs Again back in 2009 when we started

this podcast It was Skype was still Weird I mean

skype still weird today, especially now that

Microsoft has bought them but back then it was

even weirder because I don't know if it was our

mics or if it what it was but We actually had

and I don't have the original recording anymore

The episode of tooncast episode 2 now that we

have is the actual second take of that episode

we actually recorded about An hour and 45 an

hour and 50 minutes the first time when I went

to Check the audio It was so horrible and I felt

so bad for Kevin and Dion because I was like

guys we have to rerecord this It's so bad. We

cannot I'm not putting this online. It's so hard.

I mean Every other word you couldn't hear Kevin

every other word you couldn't hear me every other

word you couldn't hear Dion But animaniacs awesome

awesome cartoon Rob Paulson Jess Harnell Tress

McNeil as the Warner Brothers and Warner sister

Again, just great all the other like you know

Frank Welker doing runt Bernadette Peters doing

you know doing Rita That was that was awesome.

I loved all the skits as you said before mime

time good idea bad idea Good feathers just really

really great musical cartoon. Oh, yeah musical

cartoon. I love all the songs Oh, yes, they were

great wackos America Yakko's world The planet

song Just everything just so so that that that

cartoon is so awesome uh... what is your number

two this one is the original teenage mutant ninja

turtles uh... yes episode fifteen with mike dodd

yes and this particular cartoon you could sit

there and sing this song for the intro but it

had It wasn't as cartoonish and campy as what

the Turtles Forever brought on, but it's a lot

better than what they portrayed it there. And

the voice cast for this, granted it changed a

couple times throughout, but you couldn't really

not tell that much. And this Turtles cartoon...

If it wasn't as successful as it was, the newer

cartoons would have never made it anywhere. And

it also led to the basis of doing The Turtles

Forever with the newer cartoon of the 2003 Turtles

series. And it introduced some of the most awesome

characters. I mean, you had Krang, which I just

loved how Pat Fraley came up with that. I love

the shredder this I had every toy for this series

and I had the technodrone I had the turtles lair

I had the turtle van the turtle blimp Just about

every figure on it and even when they continued

going into the the crossovers with other things

but in the cartoon it was just so iconic that

it introduced So many new ideas. I mean you have

the neutrinos you have the foot soldiers. You

have the rock soldiers from Dimension X The first

Well this I think they kind of borrowed this

idea from Transformers, but the phase shifting

of Krangs Brain and body you know but I just

love this show this this my brother actually

found and because Don't have the money to actually

buy them right now. He found all the videos like

AVI files online oh wow and burn them all for

me on a disc and So that I can actually watch

them till I can afford to get the nice pretty

box set Now one thing of note for TMNT fans for

the 1987 series Do not buy the DVD sets currently

wait. I'm telling you right now wait. They are

like one or two seasons away from potentially,

possibly, hopefully DMNT fans raise your voice.

They are one or two DVD sets releasing away from

potentially a complete series. They just released

season nine on DVD recently. Hold off fans, just

wait, wait and see. Do not buy the DVD sets if

you already have them fine if you've already

bought them over the years Fine, but if you're

a fan of the show and you haven't bought any

of the DVD sets the season sets Just wait because

I'm betting that TMNT is gonna get a complete

series eventually And that's why I'm holding

off too because I want to when I get it I just

want to buy it once and I want to get right I'm

betting they're gonna do the turtle van as their

box set Oh, I hope so the turtle van or the turtle

blimp. That would be cool I really doubt the

turtle blimp just because of the shape. I know.

Or the technodrome. The technodrome would work.

Maybe. It would work. It's a round, spherical

thing. DVDs are round, spherical. It would work.

Just go with it. That's true. That could work.

Now, something I found out very interestingly...

Don't know where I found this out. I don't remember

what in the hell I was looking something up.

I always look crap up on the internet, but I

found out Do you know who did the music and lyrics

for the TMNT theme song no? the guy by the name

of DC Brown and Chuck Laurie Chuck Lorre, people

will know from Dharma and Greg, Big Bang Theory,

Two and a Half Men. He's the producer, or executive

producer, creator, whatever you want to call

it. But yeah, DC Brown and Chuck Lorre did the

theme for 87 Turtles. Wow. Yep. So my number

one for the ten best episodes of our most favorite

episodes from tooncast is the entirety of The

DCIU spotlight that we did top out No, it's not

That's all right. I did it later somewhere. So

Fuck you. This is my show stop pissing in my

Kool -Aid damn it Just because you like piss

in your Kool -Aid doesn't mean you have to put

it around everybody else. All right, Megatron.

Yeah, we don't want to go there. No, it's not

a cop -out. It's more so like these are like

10 favorite shows that we've done. And I love

Batman the Animated Series. I love Superman the

Animated Series. I love Batman Beyond. I love

Justice League and JLU. Zeta Project, meh. Static

Shock. i can live with a little bit more than

said that than the data project the only thing

was that a project i like is the theme song it

was kind of cool but just recording the dc you

spell it because halfway through to cast by the

time we get episode forty i had a plan i knew

how i was going to end this podcast and episode

ninety three ninety nine or ninety nine point

five because of the spot wrap -up Was going to

be the DCAU spotlight. That's the way it was

always going to be and I love recording it with

you and Nightwing. I love recording stuff with

JT for Zeta Project, stuff with Lupus Convoy

for JL and JLU, seeing as how we had already

done the Secret Origins podcast, which is more

in -depth for Justice League and Justice League

Unlimited. This, again, sparked another podcast.

Well, actually, Secret Origins sparked it, but

you and I are going to be starting something

that you're going to be running, the Legends

of the Dark Knight podcast, which is... us reviewing

every btas and batman beyond episode plus the

dcau movies that uh... feature batman so you

know yes yes it all but it all it all comes back

to turn cast it i thought you're gonna say all

roads roads lead to the low road though it all

comes back to cast it uh... so next the list

we're going to do is five under the radar shows

oh shit that's right Shit, I'll have to edit

this. God damn it. No, just leave it in there.

No, no, no, I'm not fucking leaving it in there.

I'm fucking editing out. Shut up and give me

a few moments of silence so I can find the edit

point. The fuck? Ha ha ha, this part has been

edited. No, there it goes here. That's what you

should do, just over top of it. No. But, um...

No. Okay, hold up. Alright, so what is your number

one, sir? My number one is Batman the Animated

Series. This has one of the greatest theme songs

and Batman voices of all time. Oh yes. And it

has the best Joker, but pretty much everybody

in this show is irreplaceable in my mind, could

never be replaced. with a better voice Now did

you know like I I got to give a shout out to

to TV's mr. Neil and and Ben Carver of the animation

aficionados podcast uh... they pointed so i was

talking to them last night as i'm planning on

doing stuff with them for on twig uh... now they

put in something else in that i kind of know

the back of my mind but i didn't really know

that there was actual footage out there of it

did you know the original voice they wanted for

the joker was tinkering i knew that and i didn't

get him well in the thing is they said he was

too creepy Yeah voice for the Joker. I mean granted

they probably would have used him if it were

recent times Yeah, but for back then there's

no way they would have used him. Yeah, no, and

honestly, I'm kind of glad they didn't because

We got the most iconic Joker role of all time

out of it yep, and to me that's There's just

I don't know Mark Hamill It's the definitive

Joker the go -to guy for it. He introduced the

most insane laugh for that character the biggest

personality split Oh, yeah, and He was you know

the yin to Batman's yang. I mean there was no

No other villain could really get to Batman mentally

And that was brought to light with Return of

the Joker because, you know, I think Barbara

Gordon in that movie said it best, with his last

act of cruelness, Joker tainted us all with compromise

and deception because of what he did to young

Tim Drake. And wow, was that a complete mind

fuck. Oh yeah, they - I didn't even know what

was going on in that movie until I saw that at

the end and then I was like, no shit. The Joker

trumped everyone. I know. He outlasted every

DCAU villain except for Raish. Yeah. Who appeared

in season three. But anyways, um... Yeah, I just

- I was like, that is the most insane mindfuck

in the world. Yeah, that that was that's why

I have to rate that my number one. Yes The next

list we're gonna do is five under the radar shows

that listeners should check out if they get a

chance. These are some of our podcasts that Maybe

not everybody's gonna listen to My number five

is the Titan AE episode. It's episode 68. I believe

This is one of those times, one of the only times

where I broke the timeline rule. The point of

Tooncast was cartoons we grew up with. Anywhere

from Looney Tunes era, 1920s, 1930s to 1999.

And there's only been two times where I've broken

that rule. This episode and the Clerks episode.

Titan 80 is just a great film, great voice cast,

very awesome plot, great animation. Very very

cool. What is your number five? For the most

under the radar yeah, I Would say swat cats Because

when we got to the top 100 animated series of

all time You myself and Kevin were the only ones

that voted for it Yeah, I know it's But then

again some of those top 100 people but anyway,

yeah, no swat cats is awesome and people should

check out episode 59 That's why I say that that's

one of the most under the radar yeah, yeah My

number four is actually both of the sonic episodes

episodes 48 and 49 I love both of those series

for different reasons. I love the Sonic the Hedgehog,

the original Dark series for what it is, but

I also love Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog

because of the comedy that it has. Yeah, I would

probably have to agree with you. I would have

to say that would be my other one, because that

was on my list. Just because, I mean, like you

said, the comedy and the one and then the action

and the other, just... Sonic! It kind of got

shafted, and it was a really good show, either

one of them. I mean, you had the one that was

just kind of the low brow, just for fun on the

USA Cartoon Express. And then you had the other

one, which was just badass Saturday morning.

Yep. What is your number four? That was just

basically my number four. Oh, so we had the same

thing for number four? Yes. Lovely. My number

three is episode 56 of Tooncast, which is actually

the one year anniversary of Tooncast when Kevin

and I, I believe it was Kevin and I, talked about

the Wuzzles. Now this was a childhood thing for

me. I remember watching this show. I remember

having the stuffed toys, the stuffed animal toys

for the show. It's kind of like... It's... I'm

trying to think what to compare it to. It's kind

of like Smurfs in that sense, but not really.

It's something completely different. But it's

one of those really, really under the radar cartoons,

and a lot of people don't remember it or know

about it. So yeah, go check out episode 56 of

Tooncast. What is your number three? Beetlejuice.

Episode 79, yep. and I only say that because

I mean I know it wasn't that great of a show

but it wasn't bad either and people give it a

lot of crap for you know them trying to resurrect

that show from the movie but I still think it

is one of the more I don't know just kind of

it's it's funny. It's not disgusting I mean there's

some points in it where it could be because I

mean he has a lot of weird shit go on with his

body, but It's not Overall bad. I mean it's I

like watching it it It gives a lighter tone to

the version from the movie. Yeah Yeah People

are gonna kill me for this My number two is jamming

the holograms episode 14 The only reason why

I put this at number two for the most underrated

podcast that we've done as far as in tune cast

history is because This was the last show Before

Kevin came back on episode 25 Plus Jim is getting

a big resurgence now. She's finally getting complete

DVDs from shout factory It's back on TV as of

this recording on on the hub So, you know the

80s are coming back people whether you like it

or not. That's right So what's your number two

My number two, wow that just sounds so wrong,

is probably, I'd have to say Heathcliff. Yeah,

episode 61, yep. Because everybody kind of compares

him too much to Garfield. See I thought of them

always as a versus thing like Garfield was on

the one hand and Heathcliff was on the other

but I still love both shows Individually. Oh,

yeah, I love both shows, but I for one the theme

songs great. Yeah, and It's catching and get

you into it and everything but you can tell it's

typical 80s. Oh, yeah, and It's I don't know

I like the whole the whole fact that they kind

of you know hang out in the junk yard type thing

and go around. He's more of an alley cat, more

of a low down, having to work on everything version

of Garfield, where Garfield gets handed everything

with a silver platter. uh... and my number one

this is uh... this is back when i was trying

to fill this guy like i i knew the beginning

and i knew the end of tunecast and i was kevin

and i were trying to fill the schedule and we

had to move some stuff around and Stuff wasn't

working out Originally Dungeons and Dragons was

supposed to be episode 67 of tooncast and then

it was supposed to be episode 79 And now it's

become a DeLorean time episode for tooncast beyond

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get the

Dungeons and Dragons yet because the host that

I wanted on those we just couldn't The schedules

weren't meshing right? So my number one for the

under -the -radar shows that listeners should

check out if they get a chance is episode 67

the u .s .a. cartoon express now this is something

that's didn't read before this episode we didn't

really cover cartoon blocks like to like you

know u .s .a. cartoon express tsunami uh... you

know stuff like that we actual cartoon blocks

never did that I remember the USA Cartoon Express

as a kid. I remember watching the Scooby -Doo

movies on it. I remember watching all the great

Hanna -Barbera cartoons on it. And I love talking

about it in episode 67. So what is your number

one, sir, for the Under the Radar shows? I would

probably say probably Popeye because not a lot

of kids actually know who the hell that is anymore.

I am what I am and I know the whole spinach thing

is kind of lame, but you know, it's It's just

the whole basis of the cartoon. I mean it's extremely

dated, but it's still pretty fun to watch I mean,

I know you have issues with bluedo, but that's

besides the fact I have issues with bluedo and

Popeye, but go back and listen to episode 74

of tooncast for those issues But yeah, I mean,

I think that the show kind of gets shafted nowadays

because it's not on. Yeah, it's not in syndication

anywhere. It hasn't had a reboot or anything

in years. That's a show I think that should get

a reboot. If done properly. Yeah, it has to be

done properly. If they're not going to go all

out on it and do it right, then they should just

leave it alone. I mean, if they're on this kick

of bringing back everything from the 80s, why

don't they try and bring back some other stuff?

I mean, I know they brought back Looney Tunes

recently, and they brought back Scooby Doo, and

then that, you know. But they aren't half bad.

Scooby Doo, anyway, is an improvement. Right.

In the case of Scooby, though, it's not really

that they brought it back. Scooby has been running

for years. I mean, there has been... It's been

almost nonstop, though. Right. No, I know. But

with Scooby, he's been running for years, different

series, different direct -to -DVD movies. So

Scooby hasn't just, like, there has never been

a time in history where, like, say Scooby stopped

at 1987 or 1995, and then he wasn't in the media

or wasn't on TV until... twenty eleven or twenty

you know what i mean scooby has always been there

so i mean i think scooby's kind of a bad example

of of something that not getting a reboot or

whatever but i mean i spiced i see what you're

going for there uh... so the next little list

for the shows is the top five best shows we didn't

get a chance to cover on the podcast yet uh...

so my number five which will actually be a delorean

time episode in season one of tuned cast beyond

is megaman yes uh... damn time uh... now i'm

gonna have to go back and watch megaman i really

can't talk too much about it because it's been

years since i've seen that show uh... so what

is your number five my number five is Mega Man!

And again, we did not see each other's lists,

so... Super Fighting Robots! And then it says

Mega Man. But anyways, you've got the awesome

Scott McNeil in it as Proto Man, and as Dr. Wily,

you have Ian James Corlett as Mega Man. You have...much

of the Beast Wars cast is actually in here, which

kind of boggles my mind, but again, they... are

pretty big so they've been in a lot of the same

stuff voice actors get pulled a lot but I just

love this show I mean I didn't even know about

the games at the time I just love this whole

show see I always knew about that I was playing

Mega Man 3 and 4 when I was like 5 and 6 I learned

about it shortly after watching this but I hated

the Mega Man games I liked it when it hit Mega

Man X and I love the original Mega Man games

those are so awesome And they actually did have

a crossover with Mega Man X into Mega Man in

one episode, which is my favorite episode out

of them. But everything in this, you can see

all the random upgrades of Mega Man. I just love

this show. And I wish we would have been able

to cover it, but obviously we'll get to it in

DeLorean. My number four is Disney's ... The

show that they will never acknowledge, Gargoyles.

Simply because Keith David voices the lead gargoyle,

Goliath. Keith David is to voice acting as what

Chevy Chase is to comedy. Keith David has that

voice. He can do anything. He can do comedy.

He can do serious. He's just an excellent, excellent

voice actor, and Gargoyles was an excellent story

-driven series. Yes, it was. What about you for

number four? Uh... Uh -oh. Yes, that was one

of my other ones. Oh. At number four? No, but

it's not actually on my list. I technically have

like six, but... I actually I'm gonna remove

one of the other ones, but yes, I I wish that

that show was in it I know Disney's kind of screwed

up for not acknowledging it because they kind

of took Darkwing and went darker than Darkwing

but The voice cast I mean you had Jonathan Frank

spring playing as Xanatos and then you have Keith

David as Goliath, I mean You can't go wrong there.

No and just Heroes become villains villains become

heroes. I mean, it's just a random. You don't

even know what the hell's going on half the time

I mean, there's random stuff from the 1400s coming

in and then there's stuff from the 21st century

So I mean, it's just it's a wild ride through

the entire show. Oh Yeah, so that's your number

four. Yes, sir Wow, oh my god. Well, I think

ours are gonna drastically change for the top

three here. Yes. My number three is johnny quest

the classic johnny quest uh... nothing as a group

none of the classic one not that new invention

of that shit the old one the handlebar johnny

quest uh... this was intend this was going to

be episode seventy of to cast it hasn't happened

because it didn't happen because of again scheduling

conflicts and we can get the host that we wanted

uh... So it has also become a tuned cast beyond

Delorean time episode Everybody one reason why

I love this show is bandit Bandit was awesome.

The little dog was always getting into trouble

What's your number three My number three is And

let me pull that back up, uh, it is mighty max

Hmm yeah, okay, and I know I talked briefly about

it in the the top 100 animated series this show

Has Tim Curry as the main villain? You have Frank

Walker as another villain Which sounds pretty

much like his like a mix between Megatron and

dr. Claw So it's kind of a weird It's just it's

wild, but this kid becomes He has a cap, a magic

cap, and he has this magical destiny that he

has to fulfill. And there's so many good characters

in this show that it's mostly the voice cast.

This show, I don't think it would have been as

great to me if the voice cast wasn't there. And

you have Tony Jay playing his friend Virgil,

or the guy that's telling him about his destiny,

you have Rob Paulson in it, you have Frank Walker,

Tress McNeil, Corey Burton. I mean, it's got

a lot of powerhouses in this show. Oh, yeah.

And that's why I think that this show should

have been won and eventually will be. Well, it

eventually will be. And again, I have to reiterate.

Tooncast was the cartoons we grew up with. If

it wasn't something that I watched as a kid,

it wasn't getting covered on classic Tooncast.

Which is kind of biased, but yes. No, that's

not biased. If I hadn't watched it as a kid,

why would I try to discuss it now? That's the

whole point. This is a retrospective show, but

that's not biased. Well, technically it is, because

if somebody else would have watched it, that's

in the GCR, and then they didn't get to cover

it. It'll get well you just said it'll get covered

eventually yes in the beyond but yes All right,

my number two is the perils of Penelope pit stop

Simply because of the villain in that and the

anthill mob I Love the anthill mob. They're so

hilarious What nothing? Yeah, so what's your

number two mine? See you're you're wanting to

hear mine now. All right Dragon Ball Z Technically

it falls under the anime category, but technically

does not We may cover it in tooncast beyond but

we're gonna have to get you and a couple other

DBZ fans Together to do it. So I'm getting Dodd

yeah good luck on that anyway and my number one

that we didn't get to cover in tune cast dastardly

and mutley I love mutley he's one of the best

outside of astro yeah outside of astro and scooby

-doo mutley is one of the best cartoon dogs ever

I would have to agree. Just because he's just

a sour puss. I know. So what is your number one,

sir? My number one is Reboot. And for those that

don't know, this is the pioneer of 3D cartoon

animation. Yep. Without Reboot. There would be

no Toy Story. There would be no Beast Wars. There

would be nothing. It was the pioneer of the entire

genre. Yep. Well, technically without Tron there

would be no Toy Story. Granted, granted yes,

but without... I know what you mean. This was

the first 3D animated cartoon. Right and so without

them doing this, I mean Tron obviously was the

basis but Without that this would have gone 3d

animation or cartoons would have gone nowhere.

Yep, I agree So the next list we're gonna do

is five most important or influential shows to

the business and to cartoons in general that

we covered So these can be anything that we covered

in Tooncast. My number five is episode 40, Huckleberry

Hound. Without Huckleberry Hound, which is effectively

Hanna Barbera's show that kind of launched everything

else for them, you wouldn't have Yogi Bear, you

wouldn't have Snaggle Puss, you wouldn't have...

Laugh Olympics, you wouldn't have any of that

stuff. Huckleberry Hound, say what you want about

the actual show and stuff but that's just, it's

just a great show, he's a great character and

just putting him into wacky situations is just

funny. What is your number five? My number five

of influential cartoons is Looney Tunes. And

that has to do with the fact that Well, it introduced

a lot of great characters, but it showed how

well voice acting can be important to the characters.

Mm -hmm. Because without, obviously, Mel Blank

did all of them, but it hasn't really, I mean,

now because nobody, not one person can duplicate

all of the voices, they have to have like a dozen

different people doing it, but... But there are

very good people out there. No, they are very

good. They have mastered the voice almost as

well as Mel Blanc has, but they cannot perform

all of them like he could. Oh, right. No, no,

no. No one could ever do that. Yeah. They have

to have separate voice actors for all of them,

but it shows the greatness that the voice casting

has to be to make a show good and stand the test

of time. Yeah. My number four is the Jetsons

say what you want about the show Say that oh,

it's just a futuristic version of the Flintstones

blah blah blah blah the voice acting the characterization

the different zany adventures the robot made

Rosie Astro Orbity in later seasons. I absolutely

love the Jetsons What is your number four sir?

The Jetsons God damn it got on my head Yes, but

it's because and I've been watching what I can

of it lately I only found the Jetsons movie on

Netflix, but that's all it's on there sad but

true, but this show It well one it's made people

strive for you know Just I don't know this show

has not been done since They're bringing back

the Flintstones. I wish they'd do that with the

Jetsons. I mean granted they didn't do a lot

of updating but It's It's it's helped with like

the futuristic Styles of certain other shows

like idea wise like I mean Batman Beyond has

ideas that are taken from this. I mean, it's

It's influenced other futuristic cartoons But

the funniest thing is they're like, oh my god,

it's the future. We're all gonna live in, you

know Buildings that hide above the smog and We're

all gonna live in penthouses in the sky and all

this stuff I Swear if anybody can get that reference.

Oh my god, you'll be awesome. I know you you

probably got it But anybody that's listening

they could get that reference Wow uh... you know

the jetsons showed a future that we really don't

have yet i mean we have some of the stuff and

some of the take like like uh... like moving

slight when george goes into what work he stands

on a moving sidewalk those are airports now uh...

but a lot of the other stuff just the fact that

they live on I'm assuming the Jetsons is on planet

Earth. I don't think it's ever said in the show.

I don't know, but I'm assuming it's planet Earth.

They've never actually said like a city as far

as I know that's just like, oh, it's the Jetsons.

Oh, I have to go to work. Oh, I have to do this.

I have to go to school. Jane has to take my wallet

and take all my money. Blah, blah, blah, blah.

But the Jetsons was a truly great cartoon, I

think. Oh, yeah. So my number three is... Going

all the way back to bedrock the Flintstones um

as you said the Flintstones is getting remade

which I'm extremely skeptical about especially

with who's Supposedly in charge of remaking it

set family guy. Oh my freaking guy if I Am I'm

with you on this I am NOT enthused with this

guy touching this show If he does it as an homage

to the original and doesn't incorporate any of

the stupid Non -humoristic crap that's in Family

Guy It'll be if he does it as an homage I might

be okay with it But if he tries to put his own

spin on it, oh my god This show is so gonna fail

but classic Flintstones, you know Everybody knows

it as oh, well, it's the cartoon version of the

honeymooners. It's spoofs the honeymooners. I

Love Freddy. You cannot turn your TV on nowadays

and miss a Coco puffs or not Coco pebbles or

fruity pebbles or marshmallow pebbles commercial

without seeing Fred and Barney Just a really

and this is what different if differentiated

the flintzons from the jetons i mean george jetson

really doesn't have a best friend i mean i guess

spacely kinda but it's it's more of an employer

employee thing you know this was one of the first

buddy shows fred and barney uh... you know that

that type of you know friendship type of deal

and yes fred sometimes screws barney over a lot

of times but uh... It was just a great hilarious

hilarious show and it was just a nice way to

see how people might have lived back then Yeah,

I could see that so what is your number three

I'm gonna steal. No, I'm joking I would have

to say Animaniacs because it kind of revolutionized

the modern -day cartoon Yeah for the 90s and

beyond it It not only had some nice zany stuff

that was added but it also It it spawned a lot

of good spinoff programs cartoons Mm -hmm, you

know pinking in the brain for good. So it's so

on but it's it's also had a lot of educational

value in it which a Lot of people overlook just

because the show was so damn entertaining You

know, you have Jaco and Wacko doing random songs

of, you know, Jaco's doing the nations of the

world and Wacko's doing the states and capitals,

you know, and some of them still perform those

things today for, you know, just random events.

Yeah, Rob Paulson does nations of the world with

fans every now and then to see if they can name

them. Kevin would kill me if I didn't point this

out to him, but not to him, but about him. You

know, when we first came up with Tooncast and

did the schedule and I didn't realize, and I

mentioned this in the episodes, but back in the

beginning when I put Animaniacs and Tiny Toons

on the schedule, Animaniacs is episode two, Tiny

Toons is episode three. Those are actually supposed

to be reversed I have originally intended to

have Tiny Toons is episode 2 because Tiny Toons

came before Animaniacs But Kevin when we got

to Animaniacs he had said because he is a he

is a history teacher For extra credit with some

of his students he will play and see if they

can sing the nations of the world And that's

you know you've got a show that has something

that influential that you know teachers will

use that as an educational tool you know that

show has done something right oh yeah and I I

don't think that anybody any other cartoon modern

day has been able to capture that essence no

not at all You don't have people singing the

spongebob Squarepants theme song in schools.

Oh, don't even get me started with that shit.

Yeah Depth Charge, Fishpens, anyway My number

two Batman the animated series it is Technically

it's not the continuity starter, but If you didn't

have Batman the animated series they wouldn't

have done Superman. They wouldn't have done Beyond

They wouldn't have done Justice League and so

on and so forth The one I believe it is the very

first cartoon to do this. They used black paper

for the animation designs The music theme by

Danny Elfman even the themes that Shirley Walker

may she rest in peace. She she was a great musician

great composer. Even the themes that she had

done for it in later years and the themes that

she had done throughout the DCAU, along with

herself and Mike McQuiston and Lolita Romanis.

But Batman the Animated Series, great storytelling.

Yes, there are a few episodes here and there

that, meh, if you're analyzing them they ain't

so great, but on a whole, it revolutionized superhero

cartoons. Oh yeah, and without And I have to

agree that this is also on my list. So I'll just

go ahead and talk about it now. It's your number

two. Well, it's actually my number one. But in

any case, I'm not going to bring it back up twice.

This show, like you said, had the black paper.

It had the most prolific voice cast ever for

a cartoon. The story writing for it ... Was just

awesome. I mean everything with this show was

top -notch Yeah, and it further influenced the

rest of the DC Animated universe and their future

projects and also made the Marvel and everybody

else have to try and compete with it Yeah one

of the things I will say about this before we

move on is You know we've had Batman voices before

but most of them most of it's been like uh...

the adventures of them and robin the old filmation

cartoon i believe that was adam west doing the

voice and it was uh... casey case and doing the

voice of robin uh... or something in it i i could

be wrong i could have sworn it was adam west

doing the voice in that animated series uh...

but even even before that you have uh... nineteen

nine batman michael keaton you have nineteen

sixty six batman with adam west uh... It's just

one voice for both Batman and Bruce Wayne and

Kevin Conroy Always stepped up to the steps up

to the fucking plate and knocked one out of the

park. He split the voice up There's a different

voice effect. I don't mean effect is like like

like a vocoder for for sound wave He has it at

two different octaves his range where Bruce Wayne

is kind of like oh the soft type of voice and

Batman's like You know, I'm not saying that's

what it's like, but I'm saying that Batman is

the more stern voice and I love the fact Like

when we first interviewed Tara strong and she

did our original promos when I was recording

those with her off -air She just skipped one

right after the other into character. She didn't

even stop She went from Bubbles to Batgirl to

Sari to whatever. Kevin Conroy does the same

thing with Batman and Bruce Wayne. So say he's

talking to Alfred in Bruce Wayne voice and the

commissioner calls him or something. Immediately

he will go to the Batman voice. There's no cut.

It's fluid. You don't even see the difference.

As far as the changeover, you don't ever see

him try to change it. He just does. And that

was very, very unique for the series. Oh yeah,

there's no way anybody else has done it that

particular way. And now they're trying to somewhat

do that, but they don't. I like Bruce Greenwood's

version. That's cool. But yeah, no one can touch

Conroy on on the changing of the of the vocal

sounds on on Bruce Wayne versus Batman Oh, no,

nobody has done it that well since you know forever

What is your number two? my number two because

that was my number one and Just like number two

this is Yeah, you're gonna get the reference

uh It's the Simpsons Just because it pushed the

bill with what they could get away with. Granted,

the show should die, just like all the other

ones that have spawned because of it, i .e. Family

Guy, South Park. Granted, South Park ... South

Park's not that bad. South Park is at least keeping

with the times. It may be annoying to watch sometimes.

It's not the annoying level of Family Guy. I

like Family Guy for certain episodes. Certain

things where you see the TBS commercial where

they go, mommy, mommy, mama, mama. They sit there

and they do that for five minutes on the commercial.

You're like, god damn, is this over yet? Yeah,

that's the way I am with the damn Conan commercials

everywhere now. But anyway. I digress. Yeah,

you know, Simpsons was great. Again, I think

I've told this story before. I think I told it

in episode 80 when Deval and Flava -Dave and

I did the Simpsons episode. I saw the first episode.

After that, my stepmother saw it, and she would

not let me watch it anymore. See, my mom freaking

hated this show since day one. My dad's the one

that let me watch it. And I liked it. back in

the day. Nowadays, it's one of those things that

if it's on, I'll watch it. But I don't go out

of my way to watch it. See, I haven't even paid

attention to The Simpsons in at least five years.

At least five years. Outside of the movie that

came out, you know. Spider Pig, Spider Pig. Spider

Pig, yeah. does whatever a spider pig does uh...

but yeah i know uh... i've said this before i'm

hoping and i'm betting that they're gonna get

season twenty five and they're gonna find some

way to and the show hopefully this is hoping

and after that i know this probably will never

happen and it will be way too early it'll be

like the most expensive thing ever i'm hoping

that they will do a complete series box set I

would probably buy it. The only problem is if

25 seasons go into one box set. They'll just

build a Simpsons house. That's true, right, but

I'm not saying in terms of the box. I'm saying

in terms of price. That's going to be the most

expensive DVD set ever because it is 25 seasons.

My number one is Looney Tunes. Yes, they were

original theatrical shorts. Yes, there is no

real, like when you see them on TV now, it is

just short format, but they're put into hour

long, like right now, Looney Tunes Classics are

back on Cartoon Network. They show them at 6

a .m. during the day during the week, and they

show them at 12 noon during the day during the

week. And the reason why they're doing that now

is because, and these are the edited versions

unfortunately, but they have to do that to put

it on TV. The reason why they're doing that is

because of the new The Looney Tunes show. But

Looney Tunes in general, I always loved... There

really isn't cartoons from Looney Tunes that

I don't like. I always liked the Daffy cartoons.

I always liked the Bugs Bunny cartoons. Bugs

is one of my favorite cartoon characters of all

time. You know Porky Pig Sylvester I love all

those those characters and it just is a testament

to Mel Blank and what he did With his I mean

just the range of his voice that he used and

all those coming just from him and like we said

earlier You know a bunch of you know Bob Bergen

Billy West Jeff Bennett all these people nowadays

that can you know mimic and do Mel Blank's, type

of Mel Blank's version. You know, it's just,

it's great. Oh yeah. And your number one is,

no surprise, Batman the animated series. Yes.

So the next to last list in this first segment

of Tooncast episode 100 is the five worst shows

we covered over the course of the podcast. Yeah

If I number five is Captain Planet It the reason

why I listed as a worst show is because I like

Tiny Toons is 90s cheese, but it's 90s funny

cheese But this 90s stuff for Captain Planet

just all the cheesy jokes in there. Oh my god.

It's so bad Yeah I could kind of see that. What's

your number five for worst shows that we covered?

Mine is Mighty Mouse. Agreed. Because, well,

it's extremely dated. It's not something that

would ever hold up today. No. I liked it as a

kid. The one episode I did have on VHS. I don't

know why I liked it, but that's one I'll never

watch again. I didn't listen to the podcast episode.

Oh, from Mighty Mouse? Yes. You should go back

and listen. You should, really, because I'd bash

it all to hell. I'm sure you did, and that's

kind of why I think that I was like, yeah, I'm

pretty much just going to voice the thing that

I was going to voice. I thought it would be an

agreement in either case. Yeah. My number four

is Underdog. The only thing about Underdog I

absolutely loved was the theme song and the Tennessee

Tuxedo Chumlee cartoons. The rest of it sucks.

It just sucks. Agreed. So what is your number

four? Underdog. Are you serious? I swear to God.

It is on my list. I have things in no particular

order, but it's on my list. And they're all about

just as heinous and evil to me. I cannot. Yeah,

that show. I could get past the live action one

somewhat. Can't even get past that one's a hell

of a lot more enjoyable than trying to watch

the fucking cartoon I Will never watch that damn

cartoon ever ever again Yes, um, yeah my number

three of Worst things that we covered And I only

put it here because I love the joke of of the

episode numbering episode sixty nine johnny bravo

oh i i love i love working with j t and glade

and i love talking about johnny bravo in that

episode but i'm sorry the cartoon itself is not

that great The voice acting of Jeff Bennett is

awesome as Johnny But just the characterization

the same old plot. He's trees trying to get laid

He's trying to get a girl. It's just oh my god,

but it's the unachievable thing that I know I

Know But yes, I I'd have to disagree on that

but then again, it's your list so yeah, it's

a loop point What's your number three my number

three and You're probably gonna be like here

It's Go bots oh I agree Go bots fucking sucks.

The only good thing about go bots is the theme

song goddamn Transformers knockoffs, and I don't

care if go bots came first. I don't give a shit

They are Kmart versions of Transformers. That's

all they are Kmart definitely sucks. Definitely

definitely definitely definitely But yeah, I

freaking hate this cartoon I saw it one time

because I was you know, I was young as Well,

no I went to the video store and we were running

transformers and We rented GoBots at the same

time. And we're like, yeah, OK, we'll give this

a shot. And then we watched it. And I'm like,

who the fuck is Leader One? Why are they named

these stupid names? And then we went and popped

in Transformers. Now, I will give GoBots some

credit, though. I did like the voice casting.

Well, yeah, they had some of our regular voice

casts that did carry over into Transformers.

But... Right, but I like the voices for the characters.

I just don't like the concept. I don't like...

I don't like the designs. I don't like... It's

just... It was asinine. If you're gonna watch

a robot show in the 80s, and you had GoBots put

in front of you, and you had Transformers put

in front of you, you're gonna choose Transformers

because at least they look like fucking people

or something. They don't look like... Like looking

at Johnny Five. Hell, Johnny Five looked better

than these guys. And it's just... Why would you

go towards an un? Something that didn't have

actual like fully built arms fully built legs,

you know, it was just kind of asinine Yeah My

number two actually And the only reason why I

put it here is because it's it's Episode 54 Teddy

Ruxpin The only reason why I'm bringing this

up is because I'm hoping that this guy, Josh,

listens to episode 100 of Tooncast. You just

want him to jump in your shit. Huh? You just

want him to jump in your shit. No, I just want

to basically clarify on air what we were saying.

Teddy Ruxman, I loved the toy as a kid. I had

multiple versions of the Teddy Ruxman teddy bear.

I love that thing. But the cartoon, the Adventures

of Teddy Ruxpin, that thing fucking sucked. I

don't care what kind of ratings you put in front

of me, that show was horrible. Agreeable. You

have no choice but to agree. You are being assimilated.

Anyway, go ahead. What's your number two? My

number two is Smurfs. As worst? No, well, it's

not one of the worst, but it's one of my most

disliked shows. Okay, because I was going to

say, that's what we're talking about, worst shows

that we covered. It's one of my worst ones that

I sat through and actually watched. It's one

of my worst shows. Obviously, it's not everybody

else's. Right. Just I don't know I I freaking

something about that show. I just can't stand

Yeah, it's I don't know if it's the the idea

of it. I don't know if it's Yeah, I just it's

the I can't even talk about it. I hate it so

much and My number one which will be my number

one for bad things for a while Snow White and

Seven Dwarfs. I don't care if people tout it

as, oh, it's the first Disney movie, so it has

to be the best. Fuck you. That movie sucks. I'll

agree with you. What's your number one? I put

Disney sequels. And the reason why I put this

is some of them did not warrant a second film.

101 Dalmatians any of them That's that's the

whole thing. I'm getting at here. Yeah, I Did

not like any of their films That were sequels.

I mean they were okay But they were completely

unnecessary Yeah Yeah, I I so agree I want to

check the featured guest page. I'm tweaking that.

Yeah, not yet. I'll do it after we start. I'll

do it after we finish this record, which now

I have to edit this now that I un -paused it.

Lovely. 124 .19 edit point, Mike. Fuckers. All

right, so silence. And our final countdown for

the shows section of Tooncast 100 is five shows.

that we loved as kids that you are served better

not to watch as an adult in other words just

live off the memories instead of killing them

my number five is cops surprise the animation

on this show I don't know if it's them I don't

know what shout factory or whoever's got the

DB license now I don't know if they had the true

masters or whatever but i'm sorry the visual

for this show just the quality of animation sucks

i love the fact how individual this show is as

far as like all this is a case file you know

story by story case file stuff i love that i

love all the voice acting i love everything else

but it but just the animation quality it sucks

i could get that what's your number five my number

five I got lost, is Rocky and Bow Winkle. The

reason why I say this, and I know I'm gonna catch

shit for some of these that are on my list, but

I think because it's so corny, and it's so dated,

I just think I can't get past it. Like, some

of these old shows, I mean, shit, some of Transformers,

the original Generation 1, I can't get past,

and it prevents me from actually Staying awake

to watch it and Rocky and bowing goes something

about it. Just it's it's so dated. I can't sit

through it anymore It's nothing it's not good

a good cartoon it's just it's I think it's just

because it's so dated and it some of us just

so corny I Love the show but again, I see I I

always Compartmentalize cartoons like I can put

Rocky and Bullwinkle in that classic category

I can put Tom and Jerry in that classic category

and put Looney Tunes and and all that stuff I

like Rocky and Bullwinkle one of the main things

I liked about it was Mr. Know -it -all I like

the bad guys. I more so like the other segments

like the Aesop and Son or the Mr. Peabody and

Sherman and the Wayback Machine, stuff like that.

Yeah, I will agree with you. It is very dated

for its time, but it's also very classic at the

same time. But again, if it's not something that

you grew up watching, you know, then you're not

going to like it. My number four for living off

the memories, Captain Planet. Sorry. Just...

Loved it back in the day. I had the action figures,

but it does not stand up to the test of time

today It just doesn't and yet you have a review

show Not anymore Mike Dodds on hiatus. So yeah,

that's so you're on hiatus too. Yes exactly anyway

So what's your number four? My number four is

Woody Woodpecker I Say this because I used to

watch the show growing up Did I barely remember

anything about it now? but What I do remember

is the stuff I did watch I did like yeah, that

makes any sense. Yeah, it makes sense and I I

just don't know something it I Don't think there's

really that much to it any anyway, so it's not

really Warranting or worth me even bothering.

Yeah So yeah, that's that's probably why that

I have it on there Yes, my number three is the

Zeta project This isn't even worth memories this

honestly isn't just don't live on this show is

it's Because Batman Beyond was so dark and so

serious they tried to brighten this up and it's

like oh my god huge bright bright neon green

pastel colors and oranges and oh my god this

show is too bright the only good thing about

the zeta project is the same thing that's the

only good thing about the go -bots is the theme

song i liked the theme song because it was very

very cool other than that no on zeta uh... what

is your number three uh... my number three is

super friends Because with options like Justice

League out now, there's no point for me even

to Sit through it Mm -hmm, and I liked it back

then because they're what really wasn't anything

better if I wanted to watch superheroes right

But it's yeah not worth my time My number two

is those goddamn Transformers knockoffs the go

-bots again the only thing That is good off this

entire cartoon is The theme song I like the theme

song that was cool the rest of it as we said

before the designs were funky The plot lines

were silly The other good thing about it is the

voice cast but yet just live on in memory. Yes

What's your number two? my number two is the

snorks. I only say that because I have a hard

time getting back into shows I used to watch

as a kid. This being one of them, Smurfs might

as well die in a fire, but that's neither here

nor there. Just because it was another knockoff

of Smurfs, in a sense. Yeah, but I like snorks

better than I did like snorks better than smurfs

But that's why I refuse to watch it now Because

I because I don't want to have the same memory

that I do for smurfs for snorks I don't want

it to die in my mind. I wanted to suck Sound

like it's a good show still Yeah, so in essence

instead of watching it to ruin it. I'm just never

going to watch it again Yeah My number one, again,

Snow White. And I put a note here in all capital

letters. Please erase it from my memory again.

Go back to episode 29 of Tunecast and listen

to us bashing Snow White. I don't really try

to bash it, but I'm analyzing it. And just the

analyzation of Snow White, it... The whole freaking

movie makes no damn sense. Oh, I'll agree with

you. No, I know you will. But, I'm just, oh man.

So yeah, what is your number one show that just

needs to be remembered and not watched now? I...

And I almost feel bad putting it here. Uh oh.

And it's because it is a good show. But... Again,

it's dated. Inspector Gadget. It's because I

love that show with a passion, and I loved it

back then. I loved the voice cast, but again,

I don't want to ruin my memory of it, because

I tried sitting through one of them on Netflix,

and I was getting discouraged because I was deciding

I didn't care for it. immediately shut it off

and removed it from my Netflix so that I could

keep what good memories I did have and I chalked

it up as a bad episode. So therefore that's why

that's on there. We run around the Warner movie

lot. I can lock us in the tower whenever we get

caught. But we break loose and then I'll lose

and now you know the fault. We're Animaniacs.

Don is cute and Yanko yacks. Wacko pracks with

his snacks. Wobble click to play the sax. We're

Animaniacs. and the brain who wants to rule the

universe. The feathers flock together, slappy

wax them with their purrs. What you say says

Mindy, but Rita sings a purr's. The writers flip,

we have no script, my bother to rehearse. We're

Animaniacs. We have pay -for -play contracts.

We're Sadie to the max, there's Maloney in our

slacks. We're Animani, totally Sadie. From days

of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe,

comes a legend. The legend of Voltron, defender

of the universe. A mighty robot. Love by good,

feared by evil. As Voltron's legend grew, peace

settled across the galaxy. Next is the people

section. And here we have multiple lists listing

voice actors, writers, influential people, stuff

like that. So the first list that we're going

to do here is top 10. Kevin noted it could either

be five best male and female voice actors that

we discussed or five best from each decade we

covered. My number 10 is Alan Oppenheimer, Skeletor

himself. Everybody knows this version of Skeletor.

Everybody who grew up in the 80s should know

this version of Skeletor. Just very, very awesome.

Alan has done a bunch of other things as well.

But just very, very cool. What is your number

10? It is... Frank Oz. And that's because...

Did he do anything in animation? I know he did

puppetry, but... Yoda. Okay, well... Okay, yeah,

I guess technically that's animation. That's

it's CGI. So okay. He's a voice actor Okay, so

all right. I'll go with it But yeah, that's that's

why just I mean, I know he did a lot with puppetry,

but he's also done a lot of voice work Okay,

so um My number nine is Tara strong. We've talked

to her twice. Very awesome. Very funny person

to talk to. She's got some great, great stories.

She is the quintessential voice actress when

it comes to doing anything and everything. You

know, she did the young version of Ben Tennyson

for Ben 10, Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls, Bad

Curl, now she's doing Harley in Batman Arkham

Asylum, just overall great, great talent. What

is your number nine? My number nine is Rob Paulson.

Just because he's been in a lot of the iconic

shows I watched as a kid. Whether it be Ninja

Turtles, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain. He's

been in a lot of stuff. Right. And I'm able to

pick out his voice in a lot of stuff I watch

now because of just hearing what he's been in.

I think one of my favorite bits from him, and

I don't normally like commercials, but I think

one of my favorite bits from him is Mr. Opportunity.

From the Honda. Is it Honda? Hyundai? Don't I

don't know I haven't yeah. Yeah. Yeah, it's it's

it's Hyundai. It's not Honda It's Hyundai. It's

yeah. Yeah the Hyundai ads. I love me. I love

his mr. Opportunity character. That's so cool

What oh wait my number eight is Michael Bell

Not only did he do prowl. He also did lance in

voltron he's done a number of other things very

very cool voice actor hit he is one of those

ones again where he can use his own voice and

it doesn't matter what the character is he also

does vocal inflections because he also i believe

he voiced sven as well in voltron which he just

kind of reverbed a little bit on that uh... michael

bell very very awesome voice actor what is your

number eight i also had michael bell on my list

At number eight? Really? Wow. Like I said, I

didn't really rank them any particular number,

but he was my next choice. It was kind of tied

between him and Ron Paulson for next. But I would

have to say that he's been... Wasn't he in G

.I. Joe? Yup. That's what I thought. He's Duke,

I think. That's what I thought. I think that's

why I put him on there was because he just had

one of the most badass G .I. Joe characters in

the show. Yep. My number seven is Larry Kenny.

Not only did he do Lion -O and Jack -O -Man,

he also does the voice of Sonny the Cocoa Puffs

Bird. He does the voice for VH1 Best Week Ever.

I believe he did the voice for these Skittles

commercial, Taste a Rainbow. That's funny. So

Larry, and he's a really awesome guy to talk

to. We've only talked to him once here on Tooncast.

I'm hoping when we get to the Thundercats episode

on Tooncast Beyond for the new series that we

can get to talk to him again. But yeah, that's

my number seven. What's yours? Mine is Tara Strong.

And that's just because she's been in a lot of

my favorite shows, and I like the roles that

she portrays. she's probably one of my favorite

voice actresses and especially of modern times

so that that's why she's on my list my number

six is the hobgoblin oh wait no i'm sorry the

joker oh wait they're the same person mark hamill

i honestly don't know like he he has Two of the

most iconic roles ever one in live -action and

one in animation And one's a good guy and one's

a bad guy Luke Skywalker and the Joker. Oh my

god But well mark he's a great voice actor he

does really really great things The Joker is

impeccable amazing what he did in return of the

Joker with going darker and less manic uh...

was just amazing uh... we would love to talk

to him one of these days uh... so yeah that's

that's my number six what's yours mine is peter

cullen not only does he have the most obvious

optimist prime voice well he is optimist prime

i am optimist prime yeah and uh... Very bad impersonation

obviously, but uh he was Eeyore he was The announcer

Jack Ron yeah, he did the tsunami commercials.

I mean He's just the frickin man Yep My number

five is Hamill's nemesis the goddamn Batman Kevin

Conroy You know, we've said earlier about Kevin

not much more can be said about him just Amazing

amazing voice talent. Oh, yeah Okay, Randy Savage

Yeah, so what is your number five Randy Savage.

No, I'm just joking hilarious, wouldn't it Chris

Lada Yep. Because he invented Starscream and

Cobra Commander. I mean, granted, he's been famous

for other roles as well. He had a ton in G .I.

Joe other than those. He had Moe on The Simpsons,

and I believe Mr. Burns as well, initially. Oh,

what? No, no, no, no. Initially. Oh, okay. He

pretty much did it for part of the first season

and then passed on it to somebody else. Okay,

yeah. Because of his health. He was the original

voice to start out with, which technically doesn't

mean much nowadays. But anyways, he was freaking

awesome. He created the shrilly voice that made

those characters iconic. And Starscream pretty

much has kind of kept with that somewhat until

Transformers Prime. That's when they pretty much

just reinvented him, which was fine. Everybody

was trying to top Lada, which nobody ever did.

Well, Tom Kenny came close in and he did I will

give him credit for that He did come the closest

as far as that and Scott McNeil is the only one

that can perform Cobra commander as well as Lada.

Yeah Nobody else in my opinion has performed

it as well. Yeah, I just I loved that that character

Right, and I think that's why that Cobra commander

stuck in my mind so damn long Yes, my number

four we're going old school Dawes Butler Dawes

is one of those guys that Just created everything

I mean just an amazing amazing voice talent he

You know revolutionized voice acting along with

a lot of the other older voicing of people and

Pardon me one second because I haven't done my

research Here, I'm actually having to look him

up on behind the voice actors comm What did he

let's see he is most known for Augie doggy huckleberry

hound quick draw McGraw yogi bear Fred and Barney

um very very awesome this guy is is a classic

hokey wolf um just a lot Elroy uh Mr. Cogswell

just a lot of scooby -dum even though scooby

-dum is very dumb um that made no sense Oh, he

did Dixie and Mr. Jinx. Oh from Fakesy and Dixie.

Oh man, Fakesy and Dixie is so something we're

covering on A DeLorean Time and June Gaspion.

Sorry, I'm going to... But yeah, Dawes Butler,

amazing, amazing voice actor. A lot of great,

great roles for him. So what is your number four?

My number four is more than likely, and I say

that because... I'm still kind of in indecision

here. It is... I'm gonna say Kevin Conroy. Okay.

The most prolific, awesome Batman in the world.

Yup. There's nothing more I can say for that.

And he's been pretty much holding the role off

and on. Like, he's had it almost directly from

92, I believe, until... the mid -2000s with Justice

League Unlimited, and then he went back and did

a couple of original movies with DC, which is

awesome that he got to continue it. Very cool.

Yes. My number three is Don Messick. Don Messick.

Everybody knows Scooby Scrappy. One thing I'd

never knew he was the voice for Pebbles Flintstone

Wow He voiced both Pebbles and the young the

babies Pebbles and Bam Bam not not the adult.

Oh, yeah He also did droopy Let's see here Papa

Smurf Astro Dormouse from Alice in Wonderland

uh... just don messick amazing amazing amazing

voice talent uh... and if you he hosted bandit

in johnny quest and even though it's not the

official network position scrappy do is tuned

cast mascot scrappy rules uh... Don did an amazing,

amazing voice. Scrappy. Scrappy rules. Scrappy

rules. Shut up. Scrappy rules. Shut up. He rules

with a shovel. Oh, he was also Ezreal. I didn't

know he did Ezreal in the Smurfs. I kind of probably

knew that in the back of my mind. Oh, wow. Holy

crap. Don Messick did Hampton Jay Pig in Tiny

Tunes? Hmm interesting Wait he was ratchet and

scavenger Wow, that's interesting He also does

the voice of boo -boo ranger Smith mutley You

know don rest in peace but damn it I want an

interview with this guy for just to get mutley

stuff So awesome Yeah, so while I'm no longer,

you know fan wanking over here. What is your

number three? my number three is Maurice LaMarche

Yes, yes not only for the brain But just because

he's He did you know? He can do a lot of imitation

work. Oh, yeah which in itself is pretty damn

cool. I especially became more familiar after

we got to learn more in the interview that you

guys conducted with him. I'd have to say he's

one of my other favorite voice actors that has

done really well with things. Yeah, and he did

the burping for wacko in his symphony Yep Exactly

my number two this actually I Just kind of having

a hard time with my number two number one. I

wasn't sure if I was gonna flip -flop them or

not, but and I'm sure someone will give me flack

for this, but my number two is the man The myth,

the legend, the man of not only a thousand voices,

but a thousand and one sound effects. Frank fucking

Welker. I agree. Frank has done everything from

Scooby to the Scooby -Doo Batman voice. Oh, okay,

so that wasn't Adam West. Good deal. Ralphish

Ralph. Fred Jones. Ace the bat hound in Batman

Beyond Thaddeus plots G1 Megatron Frank I mean,

there's so many voice credits for Frank. I am

NOT gonna sit here and list all of them Oh my

god, this guy has done everything you'd be here

for years. We'd be here for hours. Yes. Oh My

god, he was the voice of Dodger. That's awesome

from Oliver and company Roger oh Not not the

actual movie Oliver. He was the voice of Dodger

in House of Mouse, okay? But yeah, he was the

voice of the two of the Beagle Boys very very

very cool Frank Walker is an amazing amazing

talent Agreeing yeah, so what is your number

two Mark Hamill? And that's because he's badass

as the Joker. Yes, and I love that role Which

nobody again has topped since It's just I don't

know I I wish I could do that but nobody can

do it as well and no So yes, that that is definitely

why I put him on there that and he's freaking

Luke Skywalker, man. Yep But more importantly,

he's the Joker. Yes uh... my number one should

come to nobody's surprise by now mel blank it

you know mel is a testament to voice acting because

he was uh... you know the man of a thousand what

you know frank is the man of a thousand one voices

or two thousand whatever i mean frank does all

kinds of sound effects in just a little stuff

and everything else i'm not saying if i'm not

trying to take away from frank but Mel was the

original man of a thousand voices because Anybody

that can do all the Looney Tunes characters deserves

to be number one and Mel Was just so awesome

No, I could agree with that. He you know he was

obviously the first one to you know Do that many

voices so I mean it's not that big of a surprise.

You know, what is your number one, sir? Frank

Walker, the voice god. Yes. I would definitely

have to say he's the voice god though, just because,

I mean. No, I agree. I agree. I mean, just look

at all the crazy shit he's done. I mean, he's

been in probably more movies than actual actors.

Like, just, I mean, obviously he has, but it's

just nuts how much he is actually in. Like you

would not even believe it. If you're on his IMDB

page or shit, if you're on his behind the voice

actors page, you'll be there for hours. Days.

Yeah. Yeah, you know what I mean. Yeah, no, I

know. But yeah, you know, I agree. And, you know,

it's one of the things where my favorite Frank

Welker story is the one where I think a lot of

the Transformers people tell it. where he's in

the studio, he's in a Wally Burr session, and

they always have to worry about overlap. And

they had a voice session where it's Frank doing

two characters. And Wally Burr's like, oh, oh,

gotta start that over, it's overlap. And they're

like, no Wally, it's just Frank. You know? Because

again, I'm betting he's one of those voice actors

that can just go. from Megatron to... To Soundwave,

to... Well, Soundwave has vocoder, but... From

Megatron to Dr. Claw to, you know, Augie Doggie

or Doggie Daddy or, you know, who... I mean,

he's one of those people that can just change

in an instant. So very cool. The next list that

we're gonna do here in this section of people

is the five most influential or important behind

-the -scenes figures. My number five is Peter

O 'Keefe. He was one of the executive producers

on Voltron. He passed away last year. Without

Peter O 'Keefe, we wouldn't really have Voltron,

and it was just amazing what they did with that

show. Do you have influential people or no? I

have, for instance, Sue Blue for choosing. all

the Transformers cast since the original. I also

have Andrea Romano for pumping out some of the

greatest DC animated stuff ever. I think that's

all I have for influential people besides writers

and people that are down below. Okay, well I'm

just gonna go ahead and go through my other four

then. My number four is Hoyt Curtin. One of the

reasons why I put him on there, he's one of the

musical people. It surprised me the entirety

of Tooncast how many times he shows up as a musical,

like, you know, musical department, musical,

you know, head music writer, head, you know,

just doing the music of different shows. Number

three for me was Joseph... barbara and william

hannah uh... number two bruce tenn without bruce

tenn's vision and his partner erik radomski's

vision we wouldn't have had batman the animated

series yeah any of those other shows uh... i

love his style of of of animation uh... and andrea

romano is my number one It it it became a running

gag on tune cast because I was so shocked to

find out everything else that she has done like

I specifically knew her from the DCA you and

then when we started doing tune cast and she

started popping up as the voice cat voice and

casting director for almost everything that we've

done so Yeah, the next list is any favorite writers

directors that you want to give a shout out to

What are yours? I have, and I'm just going to

run down the list, Bob Ford, Larry Dottilio,

Kristy Marks, Bob Skier, and then Bruce Timm,

and the other guy that I, I'm drawing a blank

right here, I didn't have it down, but the other

guy that worked on the DC stuff with him. Paul

Beame? Yeah. He worked on the video games as

well, that's why the Batman games are so good

now. Yeah. Yeah, for me, the three that I actually

wrote down, I agree with you, Robert Skear, or

Bob Skear, and all that, and Christy Marks. The

three I had written down was Paul Dini, David

Wise, and Larry DiTillio. Yeah, David Wise, that's

the other one. There's so many good ones, though.

I know, there's so many! We're just giving these

people mentions. We're not really doing a top

list for them So five favorite good characters

that we covered on the podcast. What is your

number five? my number five is he man Okay, because

he's the original frickin American gladiator

type kick -ass hero that has a magic sword that

imbues him with kick -ass ability uh -huh Okay,

my number five and I only put this here for spite

Mighty Mouse no underdog no puppy power Next

guess so grab me do you know say what you want

about scrappy? About his character about whatever

say what you want about him being the villain

in in the live -action movie. I really liked

What Scrappy brought to Shaggy and Scooby as

far as character and I love what Don Messick

did with the voice So what is your number four?

I would say Wolverine from the Marvel. Yes from

the Marvel 90s cartoon right? Yeah, I just I

think that He was one of my favorite x -men still

is okay My number four is Yogi Bear Hey boo -boo,

we're gonna get us some picking it back skits

everybody loves Yogi Yogi was just awesome. It's

I could see that he's a it's an agreeable Yes,

what is your number three? Spider -man From 1994.

Yes, I would not go as far as like and I'd like

unlimited to but that's not I mean It's it's

technically the same guy, but technically not

so it's different because it's different voice

actors. Yeah, so But I like the 94 one. That's

that's definitely the one that I Can see resonating

more in my mind? Yeah My number three is a team

Buster and Babs from Tiny Toons Just the stuff

that they got into with their friends just the

voicing between each of Babs specifically because

of what Tress McNeil did with her voice and all

them the the fact that Babs was a multi -talented

voice rabbit Very very cool What is your number

two? my number two Is and this one is difficult

for me to narrow down so I'm putting optimus

prime And I only say optimus prime Because it

wasn't covered in the podcast though technically

not no Fine be an asshat like that to me Fine

then One of my favorite characters is Leonardo

from the Ninja Turtles. Okay. There he goes.

Because, well, one, he carries a damn sword.

Two is the leader, which I always gravitate towards

whoever's the leader, whether it's good or bad.

So, yes, that would be my reasoning. My number

two is Danger Mouse. Danger Mouse was awesome.

He was such a great character he was so hilarious

and his theme song was awesome as well like went

along with him So what is your number one? I'm

Batman Yes, I like Batman he's he's awesome that

that would be why I think that he's my absolute

favorite number one just because He's the goddamn

Batman. There's nothing really more I can say

about it. I mean, he's the goddamn Batman. Yep.

My number one is Lion -O from Thundercats. Now,

the reason why I put Lion -O out of the characters

we covered is because of the character development

that Lion -O got. in like from the you know exodus

the the the beginning of thundercats and just

how he had to grow up you know uh... the best

example i can actually give you is um... robin

williams movie jack works uh... eight a ten -year

-old kid in a four -year -old's body uh... you

know why i had to do some fast growing up a learning

and and it really just resonated especially with

larry kenny voicing him is very very awesome

Okay next we're gonna go to our five favorite

evil characters that we covered so Megatron does

not count I know Why number five and people are

gonna laugh at this it's actually from the sword

in the stone the mad madam Mim I Just I thought

that character was so hilariously bad but she's

so funny and just so diabolical and just so cool

what is your number five my number five is the

shredder ah interesting yes because basically

he goes toe -to -toe with splinter and I just

liked all the slicing armor that he had Wonder

what all that armor is for, making coleslaw?

Yeah, I know they always called them random names.

Shredhead. Yeah, it was it was always funny.

I love that character though. Mine for number

four is Witch Hagar from Voltron. She was very

diabolical. The voicing on her was amazing and

she's a very very good like evil sidekick type

of character What is your number three My number

three is crying also from Ninja Turtles Sensing

a theme here. Yes because of his crazy ass robot

body yeah, it's a freaking brain that runs a

You know, it's in the wrong spot. It's in the

stomach of this robot. Well, they do say that...

They've always said that, you know, you want

a weight of a man's heart go through his stomach.

Well, I guess if you want a weight of his brain,

go to his stomach. Well, you are what you eat.

Ew. Okay, then. Did you have anything else you

want to say about crying? No. Okay. My number

three is... The evil overlord of Snake Mountain,

Skeletor himself. The laugh on Skeletor is really

what does it for me, and it's very, very awesome.

Alan Oppenheimer did an excellent job with him.

What is your number two? My number two is Kilber

Commander. Just because he has the most iconic

freaking voice in the world for that character.

Oh, yeah. My number two is the Joker. I said

it's a theme coming on here. No, what theme?

How the hell is there a theme between the Mad

Madam Mim, Haggar, Skeletor, and the Joker? That's

not a theme. I was bullshitting you, Captain

Crapper. Anyways, continue. Anyways, yep. The

Joker. Very, very awesome. So what is your number

one? The Joker. How did I know? Well, it was

the only one I had left. Yeah, exactly. So yes,

that is my favorite villain. And he really cemented

it when he was in Return of the Joker. Oh yes.

And my number one is Maleficent from Sleeping

Beauty. This was the scariest Disney villain

ever. She just was. And I know I've often said,

I wonder what would happen if she and Jafar had

a kid. Let me pose this to you. What if genres

crossed and she and the Joker had a kid? I think

Harley would have something to say about that.

Not with my pudding! That was a bad Harley impression.

I know. I'm not a female, I can't do it. That's

funny. Okay. That's just too funny. Up next we're

gonna talk about some music. Fabulous secret

powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft

my magic sword and said, By the power of Grayskull!

I am Adora, He -Man's twin sister and defender

of the Crystal Castle. This is Spirit, my beloved.

Fabulous secrets were revealed to me the day

I held them off my sword and said, for the honor

of Grayskull! Together, we and my friends of

the Great Rebellion strive to free Issyria from

the... There's no case to be ignored to talk

about theme songs and I so wish Kevin could be

with us for this but first up is the five best

theme songs out of the shows we covered so no

G1 does not count what is your number five of

my theme songs it is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Because you can sing that one, too Yep, it is

one. I don't know. It's just it's the original

theme song anyway the the later ones weren't

bad either But I still prefer the primary one.

Yeah the 1987 yes My number five is Garfield

and friends, and I'm talking about the second

theme song that they used for that the one where

They start out we're we're ready ready to party

so what is your number four my number four is

nothing not just joking uh it is Justice League

Unlimited just because it was a nice instrumental

that is all I have to say yeah the jail you know

you're talking about the rock theme right yeah

mm -hmm I love that theme that theme is so awesome

my number four is mask as soon as you hear that

opening beat you know what that song is and I

just I love that theme song I love that theme

song so much I put it under a tune cast ad so

yes What is your number three my number three

is Beast Wars no, I'm just joking I Know I thought

I'd screw with you for a second. Um, it is Swat

cats the rock version. Mm -hmm not the version

that got mixed up in the Top 100 but Yes, I do

think yeah. Yes. I love that that theme It's

just so upbeat and gets you ready for that show.

I just, I don't know. I love that theme. I wish

I could steal it. I have it somewhere. Oh, I

have it. I'm just saying, like, steal it and

redo it for the podcast. Yes. My number three

is Voltron. Again. coupled with Peter Cohn's

voiceover and Just the music itself was just

amazing Just an amazing amazing theme song. What

is your number two? It is that man beyond Means

I know what your number one's gonna be of course.

Yeah, I know but good, but yes, I I love That

theme just because I don't know it's just It

I think it's because it's the whole rock thing

I just I like the techno rock mix that they've

got going on for a lot of this So I think that's

why it's all on there My number two is thundercats

Again the theme song everybody knows and most

people love most people consider it a top theme

song unlike Kevin Optimus solo Thompson But yeah,

that's my number two. What is your number one?

Batman the animated series Tom Tom Tom Yeah Very

very awesome. Now you're talking about the Denny

Elfman version, right? Yes that one. Okay. Yeah,

very very awesome uh... my number one is he mad

in the masters of the universe i'd just i love

the voiceover especially nowadays i'm sorry i

hate i i i hate to admit this but i'm sorry every

time that he does the voiceover and he gets the

point where i raise my magic i for some strange

reason i tear up for nostalgia i don't know why

i just do i'm a geek like that shut up leave

me alone The next one really isn't a list. It's

Kevin just put one worst theme song out of the

shows We covered and the only one I had to put

was Mighty Mouse Let me see what I put No, this

is this is I had a smart -ass answer the for

this one You want to hear it? Yeah too many to

count That's my answer what do you mean it's

not gonna count I says too many to count Okay

Alrighty then So that's our That's our top for

the theme songs and up next we're gonna do some

spotlights I can open your eyes Take you wonder

by wonder Over sideways and under On a magic

carpet ride A whole new world A new fantastic

point of view No one to tell us no Of where to

go Riff raff, street rat, I don't buy that If

What a wonderful phrase Hakuna Matata Ain't no

with quite so little hair. I'm gonna be the main

event like the king was before. I'm brushing

far rather an inspiring thing. Oh, I just can't

wait to be king. No one's saying do this No one's

saying be there No one's saying stop that No

one's saying see here Free to run around all

day Free to do it all by myself Yes, that's right.

This is where we're going to be doing favorite

and least favorite shows from spotlights. And

spotlights like the Disney Spotlight, Hannah

Barbera Spotlight, DCAU Spotlight that we covered

on TurnCast. So what are your two favorite shows

from the Hannah Barbera Spotlight that we covered?

Jabberjaw and Hong Kong Fooey. Yeah. Mine are

Jabberjaw, and Huckleberry Hound. Huckleberry

Hound was just really, really great. oh my darlin'

clementine you know this is really really cool

i don't have two least favorites from the henna

barbera spotlight because i kept looking over

what we did cover and i'd i'd like all of those

shows so i don't have a two least favorites from

the henna barbera spotlight do you have two least

favorites mcgillagorilla and quick draw mcgraw

oh come on everybody likes queak straw it kinda

graded on me a little bit What are your two favorite

movies from the Disney spotlight that we covered?

Two favorite movies, I would say are Lion King,

the first one, and Sword and the Stone. Interesting.

Mine are Oliver and Company and The Lion King.

Mainly for, I mean, for me, Oliver and Company,

the story's great, the voice acting's great.

a lot of the song, like the Billy Joel song and

the Huey Lewis song and Lion King. Nothing can

beat the Lion King. What are your two least favorite

movies from the Disney spotlight that we covered?

The worst two? Yeah. You mean I have to not say

too many to count this time? Yeah. You cannot

cough out and say all of the sequels. Snow White

and Sleeping Beauty. Really? Sleeping Beauty?

You don't like that? No. It was too dated. I

don't like that one. It was too dated. I couldn't

get past the animation style. Okay. Well, that's

fair. For me, it's Snow White. Worst movie ever.

And Pinocchio. It's nothing but a Ron Jeremy

reference. The entire movie. That movie is so

messed up. Oh god. So what are your two favorite

shows from the DCAU spell it and I already know

what they are Running fucking gag, huh? It's

a running fucking gag and this episode it is

Well for those of you that haven't guessed what

my biases are by this point Yes Batman animated

series and Batman Beyond And because I count

Justice League and Justice League Unlimited as

one show, that is my favorite JL and JLU. That

is my first favorite. My second favorite is Batman

Beyond. I would also love, you know, Batman the

Animated Series is great, but I love Batman Beyond

just a little bit more in retrospective as far

as what we covered here on Tooncast. What is

your least favorite show from the DCAU spotlight?

Because I only have one. Least favorite shows,

and DCAU. I would have to say, Zeta Project.

That's it. Yep, that's the same thing for me.

Zeta Project was freaking blasphemy. That's,

yeah. It was a spin -off that failed. It was

a miserable spin -off. to know something about

the guy who... It's tough to make a rhyme. If

I get stuck, I'm... that some of you are not

acquainted with the story of Rudolph? Well, pull

up an ice block and lend an ear. Now, you know

how Santa uses these flying reindeer to pull

his sleigh. You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer

and Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Donner and Blitzen.

You're a monster, Mr. Grinch Your heart's an

empty hole Your brain is full of spiders You've

got garlic in your soul, Mr. Grinch I wouldn't

touch you with a 39 and a half would pull. You're

a vile one, Mr. Grinch. You have termites in

your smile. You have all the tender sweetness

of a seasick crocodile, Mr. Grinch. Given the

choice between the two of you, I'd take the seasick

crocodile. Mr. Grinch, you're a nasty, wasty

skunk. Your heart is full of unwashed socks.

Your soul is full of gunk. Mr. Grinch. The three

words that best describe you are as follows,

and I quote, stink, stank, stunk. You're a rotter.

Mr. Grinch. You're the king of sinful sots Your

hearts are dead tomato splotched with moldy purple

spots, Mr. Green Itch Your soul is an appalling

dump heap Overflowing with the most disgraceful

assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable mangled

up in tangled up knots You nauseate me Mr. Grinch,

with a nauseous super -nose. You're a crooked,

jerky, jockey, and you drive a crooked horse.

Mr. Grinch, you're a three -decker sauerkraut

and toadstool sandwich. With arsenic sauce. we're

gonna do some DVD releases and basically out

of all the shows we covered which ones have the

best DVD releases bonus features overall quality

etc etc for me I listed He -Man and She -Ra sets

because the the the original He -Man DVDs have

a bunch of like that those sets are chock full

of bonus features I'm sure these She -Ra complete

series is chock full of bonus features uh...

thundercats same thing voltron same thing animaniacs

the dcau dvds the complete series sets are very

awesome looney tunes golden collection dvd sets

gi joe the footlocker set from shout factory

uh... for the deek series or not the deeks not

the deek series the sunbow series dammit see

you got me stuck on the stupid deek shit dammit

uh... the simpsons uh... now i know the simpsons

the show has kind of near but the dvd says that

they do for the simpsons are very very cool and

they do put really great bonus features on those

uh... and then my final one for best is any of

the special platinum or anniversary disney dvds

so if it's a twenty fifth anniversary twenty

anniversary those things what are your best ofs

for dvd releases Batman animated series complete

series set Batman Beyond even though I don't

have it of either one I Would say the GI Joe

footlocker The Transformers matrix set Doesn't

count we didn't cover it in tune cast. Shut your

face. It doesn't count. We didn't cover it in

tune cast. Okay asshat And that's all I want

to say Okay And then which ones are the worst

for me I put down Captain Planet that DVD set

that just came out for season one It's I'm glad

that it's on season. I'm glad that it has a DVD

set I'm glad that shell factory is doing it,

but the packaging for that is just horrible because

You can scratch the DVDs just trying to get the

things out of the case It's that bad And then

for me what were real disappointment was Was

so excited and I was so excited to tell you about

it when it got released through Warner's Warner

archives these swat cats DVD set because they

used edited versions and That just pisses me

off and I probably will never own that DVD set

because of that And then the rest that you know

the ones that I think of the worst are the ones

that don't even have a DVD release or the ones

that just have a bare bones DVD release and they

just half -ass it and don't do anything. What

about you for worst DVD sets for the shows we

covered on Tooncast? Actually 100 % agree. To

the fullest extent. you No. Rosemary, the telephone

operator? No. Henry, the mild -mannered janitor?

Could be. Hong Kong food, number one super guy!

After King Man! Subtrayed by the Teen Angels

from his prehistoric block of glacier ice, comes

the world's first superhero! They sing out in

chorus, marching along as their song fills the

air. from remote galaxies are 13 of the most

sinister villains of all time, the Legion of

Doom. Dedicated to a single objective, the conquest

of the universe. Only one group dares to challenge

this intergalactic threat, the Super Friends.

reflections uh... what did you learn over the

last one hundred episodes shows you hadn't uh...

been exposed to before this or anything just

in general uh... for me what i've learned over

one hundred episodes of tune cast is i guess

never judge a book by its cover except in some

cases going back and watching it yeah you can

You know, I've just, I've loved the overall discussions

we've had on Tooncast. I love the wide variety

of cartoons. Yes, I know there's a lot of stuff

we haven't covered yet, but it will be coming.

You know, I had, like I said before, I've had

this whole plan of like, I want the show to end.

I don't want it to just go on. I want it to have

an awesome, awesome ending. And I think ending

it with a DCU Spotlight and now doing Tooncast

100 is a great send off for it. What about you?

I mean, you've only been on, you only guessed

it on six episodes out of 100, but I mean, like,

just going back and listening through all the

episodes, well, most of them. What about you?

What did you learn over the last 100 episodes?

I've learned that there's a lot of shows that

everyone should be introduced to at some point.

Just, I mean, based overall on... Just I don't

know there's there's a lot of good shows that

I didn't know about and there's a lot that I

never ever want to hear about again So what were

your favorite episodes of tooncast like episode

65 episode 77 type stuff or moments of the show

Why don't you go first? Um, I liked when you

or Kevin ever get on a rant That's always an

entertainment moment especially when you guys

got into your you know Moments battling between

Thundercats Silverhawks and then you get into

your scrappy moments and then Yes, and depending

on who edited what episode depending on how bad

things turned out for everyone else But Overall,

there was a lot of those kind of moments in it.

We had a lot of great guest hosts. I don't know,

there's a lot of fun collaborations that we've

done because of this. We have the top 100 animated

series because of this. All of it eventually

ties over. It all comes back to Tooncast. And

for me, I like them all. I like all the episodes.

I don't care how bad an audio quality might be.

I don't care how much of a rat hole an episode

went down. You know, Tooncast is my baby. And

I like it all. As far as favorite moments, though.

As you said the thundercats silver war The Dexter

love versus the Dexter hate. I always like trying

to defend Dexter to Kevin and the the scrappy

argument Just just really really awesome stuff

and I love you know all the guest hosts which

we'll talk about here in a little bit so after

watching nearly 100 cartoons from all different

eras fill in the blank what is the golden era

of cartoons that one is a tough question yeah

see kevin wasn't thinking when he wrote this

i think because i'm sorry i cannot define it

because i like all different cartoons from all

different eras Mean if we're gonna go like chronologically

technically the golden age of cartoons was From

the 20s to the 70s almost, you know looney tunes

Tom and Jerry's stuff You know that kind of stuff

But I mean for me like my favorite decade of

cartoons is the 80s and not well My two favorite

decades of the cartoons is the 80s and 90s Because

that's what I grew up with and a lot of the cartoons

that showed up in the 80s like flintstones was

stuff that came from the sixties because they

they re -released her put new episodes of jetsons

is a pretty simple that jettison's on the air

back in the sixties and then it made a resurgence

in the eighties they brought back and and did

more with it uh... and that's how it became popular

scooby -doo scooby -doo has been running for

years since the sixties you know and uh... and

and most of the episodes back in the eighties

i just remember seeing all those reruns so i

don't think that i can actually pick specific

decade a specific 10 year period or whatever

for the golden age of cartoons, but My favorites

are the 80s and the 90s Yeah, I would I would

have to narrow it down saying pretty much that

it's and it pretty much it's not really a Freaking

decade. It's more like a 15 year span almost

20 years span because you have from like Well,

technically, because 82 to 99 are pretty much

about when everything, or 2000 are about when

everything, so it's almost 20 years. I'd have

to say that that's probably when cartoons hit

their peak, and then at 2000, less and less shows

were good and iconic and memorable. So up next

we're gonna go to some voicemails and after the

voicemails we're gonna do some ads. We're also

gonna do Some we have one new iTunes review.

So we're also gonna cover that as well. Chief

Quimby here and your assignment is to listen

to Tooncast We are back and before we get to

the voicemails I wanted to read and respond to

the latest iTunes reviews from elf elf e Floriendo,

I believe I think he actually emailed me before

we recorded this about something else as well,

so He Unfortunately gives us for tooncast a two

-star review Wanted to love the podcast but ended

up being frustrated with it He left this on April

18th, 2011. He says, uh... many the thing of

it is though when to cast started it's about

reflection it's not about it to cast is not a

individual review show it's not it's about the

overall broad scope as far as wikipedia we know

we admit it we read off what i i specifically

i i will take one for that i One of the reasons

why I read Word Forward off Wikipedia sometimes

is because I want to make sure I'm getting the

facts fucking straight. That's just me. Yes,

I know there's probably another way I can present

the info. Maybe I can talk like this or something

like that. I don't know. I could do something

else, but yeah. and the next thing he says is

probably the major flaw with this podcast is

the audio quality not sure if they listen to

the podcast back before posting on the web but

some of the episodes are just plain un -listenable

i was so excited to listen to the aladdin episode

but when kevin started to talk i couldn't even

understand a word he was saying and it was static

so frustrating okay well i've mentioned audio

quality already before in episode one hundred

uh... with kevin i wanted to get him back on

the show he was missing from episode 15 to episode

24 he came back on the GI Joe show episode 25

and the only way I was able to get him back was

because through Skype I called him on his cell

phone and when you call people on phones it's

gonna be bad quality not truly bad quality but

still not the best quality as if you're just

gonna call them through Skype because at the

time Kevin left the show after episode 14 because

he didn't have internet for the longest time

so you know I apologize for that I do however

love the interviews those were the episodes that

had very little Wikipedia in it well dude it's

an interview of course we're not gonna have Wikipedia

uh... he likes the jason marsden interview that

was awesome and in the audio for most part was

okay i also like that there was regular format

for most episodes and that kevin brought some

unique perspectives when it came to the voice

actors i hope the host read this and take it

as constructive criticism rather than total negative

review at the time of this review they're approaching

one hundred episodes and there is a reason that

they have been able to accomplish that. I just

hope that when they do the Beyond reboot that

the audio quality has improved and that there

will be more than just reading Wikipedia. Four

stars for the idea, two stars for the actual

execution, five stars for actually getting it

as far as they got it and keeping me wanting

to listen, even if I couldn't hear what was being

said. Now, we are still going to read from Wikipedia

every now and then and beyond. As far as the

audio quality, I think honestly since episode

55, maybe episode 60, from episode 60 on up to

now, the audio quality has gotten a lot better.

Yeah, and part of it is not our fault. Part of

it is at the time, this was before we've gotten

much better audio editing programs. We all use

Adobe Sound Booth now. We were all using Audacity

before, which Audacity, if you know anything

about it, is a pain in the ass. It takes forever

for things to render in there. It can sometimes

screw up the audio without you even knowing what

it's doing. And because there were many times

where I've edited a show and it'll speed somebody's

audio to the point that they sound like a chipmunk.

And then there's other points where it'll make

them kind of die out. The other problem is Skype

sometimes fizzles out on us on certain people's

ends, and there's not really anything we can

do about it other than reschedule. And with trying

to keep with a constant time schedule, it kind

of hurts that sometimes. So it's kind of a hit

or miss thing there. And another thing, too,

just to finish this out is with the audio quality,

it depends on what kind of equipment people have.

Exactly. Mike and I both have standalone microphones.

And we have headsets or speakers or whatever

for just standard listening to everybody else.

We try and typically make sure that everybody

has at least decent equipment when they join

in. Right. But sometimes they you know just should

happens yeah and i mean now kevin has internet

back he does have a decent setup i mean it's

not it's not anything like what we have but i

mean he has stuff where he's he's good uh...

you know i would go one of the reasons why did

the whole you know bring kevin on the phone thing

from episode twenty five to i don't even remember

when the episode was that he got internet back

i i just don't remember I was tired of every

week begging for co -hosts for the cartoons that

we were covering. From episode 15 to 25, that

was Turtles, DuckTales, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck,

Marvel cartoons, Looney Tunes, Jetson's Flintstones.

uh... poem and and and i'm not saying this to

take away from those vessels and absolutely grateful

for everybody but by the time episode twenty

five came around i said bucket i'm gonna get

kevin in on here whether he likes it or not you

know i'm gonna find a way Because you know technically

Kevin and I started this I mean yeah, it is my

baby It's my you know idea design type of thing

but everybody you Kevin everybody has contributed

to it and and I greatly appreciate that and you

know Kevin and I wanted to start this to Nostalgically

talk about cartoons, and I wanted him back on

the show so I had to find a way to do that And

I just wasn't gonna you know try to you know

pull cuz you know like I literally had to beg

Michael Wilson to be on the Tom and Jerry episode.

I had to literally bribe him to be on the Tom

and Jerry episode. You know, and some stuff I

had planned, like when we did the M .Y .R. tune

cast crossover for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, I

had planned with Steve Saylor to get Steve Saylor

on there, because I know he loves that movie.

uh... but by the time gi joke and i said you

know kevin you're you're not you know you you

know he claims to be a huge gi joe fan and i

know he is i don't mean that you know see these

not you know i was like well thought that you're

being on the show of next we're gonna go to the

voicemails screen from beyond the new tuned cat

i'm the vacuum eater and i'm leaving a voicemail

for tuned cat episode one hundred the final episode,

as you guys have dubbed it, apparently. I've

been listening to Tooncast since about episode

72, where you guys were talking about... I don't

know, that was so long ago, I completely forgot

what you guys were talking about. But, yeah,

regardless, I really love your show, and I'm

excited for Tooncast Beyond, because I'm 14,

and... I'm gonna get to hear you guys talk about

cartoons that I grew up on, like Jimmy Neutron

and other things that I can't remember at the

moment. But, yeah. It's been a real fun ride,

guys. I've really enjoyed it so far. I'm glad

I found the GeekCast radio network. Overall,

this is my first time leaving a voicemail message.

I can't wait to hear your top 100 lists of greatest

cartoons of all time. And yes, IGN does suck,

but not as bad as you guys seem to think it does.

When they're doing video games, they're okay,

but anything else, they just completely suck,

in my opinion. But yeah, just thought I'd leave

a voicemail for your final episode. Really looking

forward to Legends of the Dark Knight and Tooncast

Beyond. I do have a suggestion. When you guys

are doing Tooncast Beyond, do not talk about

the Johnny Test Abomination at all unless you're

gonna bash it, because I fucking hate that show.

Just don't talk about it. It's almost as bad

as Hannah Montana. Well guys, thanks for listening

to my message and putting it on the show if you

do do that. And until next time, this is The

Vacuminator saying... and they stuck it in you.

Bye. Hello. This is Michael Wilson, known as

PConcord Michael on the GeekCast Radio Network.

U -Tune cast listeners may remember me from such

classics as episode 22, The Great Pumpkin, episode

23, Tom and Jerry, episode 25, GI Joe, and episode

26, The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. From this

lineup, you can probably tell that I really like

Snoopy. I dig all things Snoopy. So it was great

to talk with Mike about the two great seasonal

episodes from Charles Schultz. Besides my obsession

with Transformers, I also have a great love for

the G .I. Joe franchise. Tom and Jerry? Well,

I just sort of fell into that one. But what about

episode 24? I was in episodes 22 through 26,

but I skipped 24? Well, that was the Who Framed

Roger Rabbit episode. And honestly, My rat's

ass is busted on Roger Rabbit. You want to see

my busted rat's ass? Well, you can't because

I don't give a rat's ass about Roger Rabbit.

That's that movie with the rabbit voiced by the

crypt keeper, right? Don't even get me started

about Bob Hoskins. How about a guy who didn't

single -handedly ruin Mario Brothers for me?

Anyway, so no. No episode 24 for me. But hey,

special thanks to Michael Blanchard for including

me on the Tunecast line. Be sure to listen to

the TFG -1 podcast, the Beast Unleashed podcast,

and the upcoming Transformation Animation podcast

to hear more from me and my good friend, Mike

Blanchard. Thanks again for listening. Well hey,

it is Beyond AKA TheMusicMan08 and I'm calling

to leave comments and... commentary on the episodes

I guest -starred, well not guest -starred, it's

not really a TV show, but guest -hosted on, I

guess you could say, zero zero through episode

six. Gotta say that I liked every minute of it,

it was a lot of fun. I had a blast, you know,

going back into the past with different cartoon

shows. I would say that probably one of my favorite

episodes would be Well, two of my favorite episodes

are, I guess you could say would be the Nintendo

cast and the Animaniacs cast. I think that those

were a lot of fun. And then I think the third

episode would have been the Tiny Toon Adventures

episode. That was a lot of fun to guest post.

And I hope that you guys will continually do

this more often. I would love to come back and

help do some more. And who knows, maybe I might

have more trivia than... you know that i can

throw in and uh... then i'll just be a walking

talking textbook of scary things that don't need

to be found out but you know like i said doing

podcasts like this this has been fun this has

been a blast i hope that uh... tunecast will

do another season at some point uh... even if

it's newer stuff uh... and maybe you guys will

revisit the old school but i certainly hope that

tunecast We'll come back again very, very soon.

I cried a little bit in my sleep at night. I

had nightmares for a few weeks afterwards. And

just overall, this great feeling and sense of

dread in the center of my chest. I'm still very

frightened by it as I talk about it now. Speaking

of that, I probably need to go speak to my psychiatric

counselor. Thanks, PFG -1 Mike. Thanks. In all

seriousness though, guys, congratulations on

hitting 100 episodes on Tooncast. You guys deserve

every bit of success you have, and 100 episodes

is a great achievement. And I look forward to

listening to even more from the amazing KECAST

radio network guys. So to all of you involved,

congratulations. It's good order. And maybe if

Mikey there decides to give me a call, and we'll

discuss how badly he frightened me. And maybe

I'll be on another episode. I'd like that. more

so about the not frightening thing anymore because

the nightmare is just, I gotta stop changing

the sheets because peeing in my bed just isn't

working for me. Alright guys, this is The Ball

saying congratulations and take care. GeekCastRadio.

Hey guys, this is JT from Saskatoon calling in

with my thoughts on the end of Tooncast. I'm

going to say, man, I'm going to miss the show

a whole lot because this was the very first podcast

that I ever listened to on the Geekcast Radio

Network. That's right, I was here from episode

zero till now. And while I haven't always commented

on every episode, I have listened to every episode

because I love the show. I love the format. I

love everything about this show, man. And I want

to say thank you. Thank you for educating me

with all the random factoids and behind -the

-scenes info of different animated series. Thank

you for entertaining me with all the discussions

and arguments and general geeking outs during

all the episodes. And thank you for allowing

me to take part. I actually got to be on two

episodes of this series, Episode 69 with Johnny

Bravo and Episode 96 with the Zeta Project. So

thank you a whole lot, guys. You've been one

of my favorites. And like I said, I'm sad to

see it go, but... I know the work will continue

in the future. So this has been JT from Saskatoon,

signing off. Hello, Tooncast. This is superfan

Kevin calling in for episode 100. And I want

to congratulate you all on such a fantastic run

on your podcast. I'm sad to see it go, but happy

to see it continue in the future. And it's cool

how you all were able to. keep the show coming

on a consistent basis and I know through my own

experience that that's that's not always the

easiest thing to do you know scheduling issues

with software and all of this other sort of stuff

losing files you know it takes a lot of time

and preparation and sometimes people don't really

know how much work goes into it you know especially

since all of you are recording multiple shows

so you know that takes it even that makes it

even more difficult so you know you definitely

get much much respect for that and one thing

I've enjoyed a whole lot about the show is just

you know the adult perspective and I don't really

mean adult like you know R -rated movies or anything

like that. But what I'm talking about is just

a perspective from a grown -up. You know, a lot

of people are like, oh, cartoons are for kids.

What the fuck? You know, without realizing that

those same kids grew up and still watch cartoons

now. Or they're folks like myself who study animation

and create cartoons of their own. So I'm glad

that the grown -up conversation is out there.

And you know, you guys are some of the best,

seriously. The research facts that you put into

the show, going into the background, how it was

made, all of the voice actors. There's a lot

of stuff that y 'all put out there with the podcast

and the additional information that it's invaluable.

There's a lot of stuff that I learned, stuff

that I really didn't even know about this cartoon.

I'm like, damn, damn, that's some serious stuff

right there. It's good information. It's helped

me put my own geeky shit on the next level. And

I haven't always agreed with you guys. Some cartoons

I loved, y 'all hated, and some that I hated,

y 'all loved. But it still opens up the conversation.

And I thought that I was a cartoon geek. until

I met y 'all. So thank you for helping me feel

so much better about myself. Just kidding, just

kidding. I don't wanna step on any toes there.

I just had to take a cheap shot because I remember

y 'all doing a separate podcast just in response

to a voicemail that I left. So I was like, damn,

they gonna call me out like that? But it was

all good because it shows how involved you guys

are with the community. And you care what your

fans think. You care what sort of product that

you're putting out. So it really felt good that

you would take the time out to respond. And some

of my favorite moments about the show would be

where there was a complete night and day disagreement

on a particular cartoon. And some of those discussions

would even get heated. And it was funny to me,

the listener, you know, and I've had more than

a few good laughs at work, even having to step

out of the office a few times. So that was cool.

And the thing that really drives Tooncast home

for me is the fresh perspective, if I can quote

Ratatouille real quick. You know, as an animator,

I need to know how people look at things. So

the entertainment factor of the podcast is just

one aspect. It's also another aspect would also

be the interpretation. So if I work hard and

put out this product and I just may be looking

it from my own eyes and not really the eyes of

the audience. So Tooncast isn't just a podcast,

but it's also a resource for anyone making cartoons.

You know, it sets a certain level of quality

that must be met in order for it to be successful.

So I know that if anything I may seize the light

of day, I look to you guys for a resource for

some fresh perspective. And I really do wish

everyone involved with the show you know, tons

of success for all your future endeavors, and

I look forward to new and upcoming shows. So,

all of y 'all take care. we've grown up with

and watched and loved and hope you guys keep

up the excellent work and everything. And I look

forward to keep following us into the other great

podcasts you do and Tooncast beyond. Thank you

guys. Hey Tooncast, this is Tara aka RisingStar

here. Just want to share a bit of my thoughts

and my experience with Tooncast. So I joined

Tooncast in about episode 82, which I believe

was the Cinderella record. And I have to say,

since then, I've had a blast being a part of

Tunecast. And even though I haven't really been

a part of it for that long, it's still been an

incredible experience. Every single record I've

done on the Tunecast has just been fun. I have

fun recording with the other hosts, with Mike

and Steve. and Kevin, and all the other people

who have joined us on the Tunecast. I also really

have enjoyed the two interviews that I got the

privilege of doing with Mike, which was first

with Jason Marsden, and I really enjoyed speaking

to him. And most recently, I got the pleasure

to speak with Tara Strong, who was, she's my

idol, and I really enjoyed speaking to her. She's

just such a sweetheart. and it was a great opportunity

to speak to her and learn about voice acting.

Tooncast to me is a great podcast where we get

the opportunity to speak about some of our favorite

cartoons, movies, whatnot. And it's just such

a great podcast to be able to share my opinions

and my thoughts on all my favorite cartoons and

especially with the Disney spotlights. I really

enjoyed being a part of that. Yes, some of the

records were quite long, a couple of hours, but

they were worth it because we really got to delve

deep into behind the scenes of some of my favorite

films and I learned stuff that I really didn't

know. and I have to say Mike and Kevin and Steve

do such a great job with Tooncast, especially

Mike. I know it's your baby and you do a really

great job with it and it's just been such an

honor to be a part of Tooncast and I want to

take this opportunity to say thank you so much

for letting me be a part of Tooncast and I'm

excited to come back and Tooncast Beyond and

talk more cartoons and movies and whatnot and

learn more about some of my favorite shows so

Keep up the great work, guys. Tooncast, I love

you. And can't wait to be back in Tooncast Beyond.

Hey, Tara Strong here, and you're listening to

the Geekcast Radio Network. So thank you to everyone

for leaving those voicemails. Couple of responses.

To the Vacuminator. Yes, IGN is as bad as we

say they are. That list sucks. agreed and one

of the reasons why I say that is because it's

so accepted because they are so mainstream they've

been around longer than us obviously but it's

like oh my god everybody agrees and I know a

lot of people don't obviously there was seven

hundred and something comments on IGN's list

that people hated it but I don't know, whatever.

And also, Vacuminator. I love Johnny Test. Johnny

Test rules. That is such an awesome cartoon.

Because one simple reason is because Ian James

Corlett is the dad on that cartoon. So awesome.

To Mr. Wilson. Fell into it. I practically had

to beg you to do it. And Roger Rabbit is awesome.

Don't you dare say anything against it. And thank

you for the pimping, Michael. Yes, thank you.

To Dion, you technically are the hidden member

of the show. I wish you would have done more

with us. I wish you could have stayed on longer.

We may bring you back in Tunecast Beyond. Yes,

we are coming back. More on that later. To Deval.

Well, I kind of already gave you my response

with that editing of the of your voicemail dude.

So yeah, crack that whip JT you welcome. Sorry

to say to him And super fan Kevin one of the

reasons why we did that special response to you

is because at the time There wasn't gonna be

a tune cast for like two weeks and we didn't

want the voicemail to be that old. So that's

one of the reasons. It's not just you that we

did it for. I mean, if anybody had left us a

voicemail during that time period, we probably

would have done the same thing. You know, Kevin

and I, super fan Kevin and I have agreed, disagreed,

all that stuff. He actually started his own podcast

called Cell Therapy. I'm not sure if he's still

doing it or if he's doing it very frequently

now. But yeah, thank you to everybody who loved

voicemails. Thank you to Tara who left a voicemail

as well Tara Tara's a GC are in first. I mean

we've had female people on the shows before we

had Diana Lou from 80s cartoon podcast in the

gym episode and we've had the television on the

holiday episode, but Tara is the first full -time

female closed for GC RN and she has episodes

82 to 92 I think no she wasn't in Top Cat but

she has episodes 82 to 90 and then episode 92

and a couple other she was on the static shock

episode with Steve and I so yeah so thank you

to everybody who left the voicemails do you have

anything you want to say no just glad that this

whole thing went the way it did yeah I'm very

pleased with the popularity of Tooncast and I'm

hoping that everybody will tune into Tooncast

Beyond when we do start it up this coming November.

So we are going to take a quick break. You're

going to hear some more theme songs and you're

between the geek cast radio network and the pop

culture network This is from the command center

the podcast I am your host if you and Mike from

the GCR in and joining me is Zordon himself.

Oh wait, I mean Scotty cash That's right Scottie

cash from the pop culture network and today we're

introducing you to the audio version of from

the command center the podcast that will entail

our Intake on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the

episodes the season and all that other good stuff

How do you top the most popular podcast on the

network? Well, you continue it 65 years in the

future coming November 11th 2011 tune cast goes

beyond Featuring TF2 on Mike Kevin up in the

solo Thompson Steve Megatron terror the rising

star and maybe even you. Tooncast goes beyond

good, beyond evil, beyond your wildest imagination.

From superheroes to animated film spotlights

to action cartoon spotlights and more, Tooncast

is still your GCR and source for cartoon reviews.

You can find it on iTunes and the web at www

.geekcastradio .com. Let's go beyond. Alright,

we are back and... It is time for final thoughts,

time to close out the final episode of Tooncast.

I wish, I just, I'm happy with what episode 100

is, but I still wish Kevin could have been here

to record this with us. What are your final thoughts

overall, Steve? It was a fun ride. And most definitely

looking forward to Tooncast Beyond where in For

those that don't know or haven't heard or anything,

the DeLoreans, we will be basically doing Tombcasts

proper. Episodes. Yes. So we'll be covering episodes

here or there that are classic cartoons. That

were omitted from this version. And they'll eventually

reappear in that way. But in essence, this is

done. We are continuing. The Tooncast Beyond,

we're going to be covering all new stuff. But

for those that were worried that certain shows

they grew up on were missed from the 80s and

90s or whatnot, they will more than likely eventually

be covered at some point in a DeLorean episode.

I want to thank all of the iTunes reviewers.

Tooncast is the only geek cast radio network

podcast that has three pages of reviews on iTunes

in the US store I'm not sure what the Canadian

store or any of the other stores have obviously

because of the stupid Apple region coding shit

But I want to thank everybody who's left us reviews

in iTunes anyone who finds this podcast. Oh my

god I gotta stop because I almost sounded like

Optimus Prime there for a minute. I send this

message out to anyone that finds Tooncast on

iTunes. Even though this show is done, if you

write a review for this podcast, we will read

it in Tooncast Beyond. We are here. We are waiting.

Tooncast Beyond is the next logical step. Tooncast

Beyond has been planned since... about episode

69 of Tooncast, I think. It hasn't been fully,

you know, back in episode 69, I don't think I

fully realized the actual scope of what Beyond

will be, but the idea was there, the joke was

there, because the whole point is, the joke of

65 years in the future, it actually comes from

Epilogue, the JLU episode Epilogue, because Bruce

Tim, As always said, Batman Beyond takes place

50 years in the future, 50 years from whatever

now is. Well, in epilogue, it said 65 years in

the future or 65 years later or whatever, 65

years from now, whatever it said on the epilogue

thing, it said something about 65 years. So that's

where that joke came from. We have Tooncast Beyond

fully plotted out. Again, I have to thank All

of the special guest hosts, even though I don't

talk to Derek Ferguson from Better in the Dark

anymore, I would like to thank him for joining

me for Tailspin, because the first time I did

Tailspin, it kind of sucked, because I was doing

it by myself. But I'd like to thank him. Christopher

Stapleton from Chicken Pop Pod, Mike Dodd from

This Week in Geek, Jenny C from Earth2 .net,

Diana Lu from 80's Cartoon Podcast, Steve Saylor

from ThisWeekInGeek .net, Michael Wilson. from

gc r and uh... j t from effectively gc r and

uh... glade the slacker packer from t s a productions

uh... let's see who else uh... uh... i know i'm

missing people here at the television from the

television dot com uh... shoot uh... you steve

obviously six episodes but that i i i should

have actually pulled up the list to uh... to

see the only but yet all the guests of ronald

or what matter about them from uh... uh... sarcastic

voyage podcast and uh... the uh... post -atomic

also there there's star trek podcast that they're

doing now uh... they were on the learning tunes

episode very very cool from them uh... yes so

thank you all the guests so thank you all listeners

it's been a fun ride like steve said we Kevin

and I started this because we wanted to talk

about cartoons We wanted to reminisce on cartoons,

and it's just grown into this wildly popular

show So very very cool and before we close out

the show before we go to the outro I'm actually

going to do something. I don't think I've ever

done before I'm going to give you guys a preview

for Tooncast Beyond so First of all Tooncast

Beyond is going to be like a television season

where we are on for say six months And then we're

off for four months. It's gonna be however long

a season like say season one has 30 episodes

season one runs from 6 June well runs from November

11th 2011 to Where is it number it runs from?

November 11 2011 to May 30th of 2012 and then

we will take from May 30th to August 1st of 2012

off So season 1 actually before we get to season

1 We are having seasons season 1 is superheroes

season 2 is the dream work spotlight season 3

is the Disney film spotlight This is the spotlight

where any of the Disney films that we didn't

cover in tune cast classic. They'll be covered

here Season four is the Disney animation spotlighted.

Well Disney animation as far as Disney television

animation so Phineas and Ferb update Fish hooks,

you know stuff like that Kim possible stuff like

that season five is the Pixar spotlight will

cover all the Pixar films Season six is the action

spotlight. So stuff like TMNT 2003 messes universe

2002 New Adventures of He -Man Christ Season

7 is Cartoons of Randomness Part 1. These are

basically just one -shot cartoons from the different

networks. Adventures of Flapjack, regular show,

Strip -a -rella, just stuff that is just from

random studios, that isn't like an actual spotlight

type stuff. Season 8 will be animated films that

are not, you know, maybe Warner Brothers animated

films will do, you know, not Disney or Dreamworks

and just other animated films. and then right

now season 9 is cartoons of randomness part two

which is essentially the same as cartoons of

randomness part one so for season one which starts

uh... episode zero will be out uh... june shoot

uh... season one episode episode zero will be

out june eleventh twenty eleven uh... that'll

be just the introduction uh... and in season

one The first 10 episodes that we're going to

be covering is Episode 1 will be the Superhero

Squad show. Episodes 2 through 10 will be the

DC Universe animated original movie spotlight.

Superman Doomsday, Justice League New Frontier,
