All Things Transformers
Transformers 40th Anniversary and 2027 Toy Updates

About this Episode
Hi, this is Jim Meskimen, and you are listening
to the Geekcast Radio Network. Hello and welcome
to All Things Transformers. I'm your host, Steve
Megatron, and joining me on this adventure into
the Transformers fandom is TFG1 Mike. You know,
there was this one time where there was only
a dark awakening, and there was a zombie Optimus
Prime after they killed him 40 years ago. I just
watched that. I was like trying to explain it
to my kids. I was like, you know that Prime came
back once before the return of Optimus Prime.
And I was like, Zombie Prime. Revived by the
Quintessons. It's a Quintesson trap. Do not believe
them. Yes, exactly. Yeah, so it was an interesting
episode, to say the least. It was like a bait
and switch, too, I'm sure, for the kids of the
80s, watching that go down. Being like, oh, they
brought Optimus back, and then they're like,
ha ha ha, he's a zombie, he's not actually alive.
Yeah, no. Exactly. And people wonder why I'm
not into zombies nowadays, because zombies ruined,
well, Technically, fake tentacle robots ruined
Optimus Prime for me by turning him into a zombie
when I was a kid. There you go. That's why I
don't like zombies now. Although I am very interested
in this new Optimus Prime awakening clip, which
begs to wonder if this is like a post -death
scenario. or he's like in the other side of the
matrix if it's like a what else you know an else
world type story or you know it it'll be interesting
to see where they go with this i think it's meant
to before mr cullen passed away i think it was
meant as A teaser for something. I think that's
what it is. Now that he is no longer with us,
I think it is meant as a standalone 12 minute
short of the way it's stuck in my head. And I'm
probably going to send you the audio because
I can't do it justice. But all is I have in my
head is. Well then Joker, I guess I get to do
the thing. I, you know, I, I guess I get to do,
you know, I, I get to go out by being, but like
all I have stuck in my head is the end of a crisis
on infinite earths where Joker and Batman are
going up against each other for one final time.
And it's Mark and it's, I go out being Batman.
Yeah. And it's, it's him punching the timeline.
It's him punching the Joker and it's Mark and
it's Kevin. And it's Kevin Conroy's final voice
performance as Batman. That's all I have in my
head when I think about whatever this 12 -minute
short is going to be. And I'm glad that Hasbro
has finally revealed what this is going to be,
because I'm so happy I was so wrong as to what
this... Because my buddy Mike Seibert of the
Mike Seibert Radio podcast and Two Mics Too Furious
and all the stuff that he does. I'm glad. The
trailer that we saw, the amazing trailer that
they did for the 40th anniversary back in theaters.
one shall stand one the way they the way they
re -edited and redid the trailer for the 40th
that is one of the best re -edits of a trailer
i have ever seen and how they did so good but
the ending to that trailer is oh but it's kind
of like it's like a duke scene from gi joe where
it's like well is he alive Yeah, but it is, but
it's one of those things where at the end of
it, it's kind of like, but wait one more, just
one more thing. It's kind of like a, the kind
of like pull the Steve jobs on us, even though
Steve jobs hasn't been with us for years now
anyway, but it's kind of like a, like an Apple
product end video thing, but wait, there's just
one more thing kind of thing. And you're right.
They kind of, but the way they did it and the
way what they showed it. All it reminded me of
was, oh, let me guess, that's an advertisement
for a new Robosyn sleep mode Optimus Prime or
a dead Optimus Prime for a new $1 ,000, $3 ,000
Robosyn gray Optimus Prime figure that no one's
going to be able to afford. You know, the super
robotic Robosyn figures, etc. Because really,
that's what I thought. I thought it was an advertisement
for some new figure of that caliber of Robosyn
caliber. I just thought it was an advertisement.
And I can safely say now that we know more about
what this 12 minute, it's going to be a 12 minute
short, supposedly either continuing on or continuing
the adventure. Of course, continuing the adventure
was before Peter had passed on. You know, I'm
glad that Hasbro finally revealed details of
what it actually is. And I'm kind of glad that
it's the way that Hasbro is currently marketing.
It is come out to theaters September 17th. I
think it's 17th to the 21st. I don't have that
information in front of me, but I'm the 24th.
Okay. But, yeah, I mean, I got I got tickets
for the 20th. Cool, cool. But the way they're
marketing it is come out to see Transformers
the movie for the 40th anniversary in theaters
and make sure you stay after the movie to see
the 12 minute short Optimus Prime Awakening.
So they are marketing it as. Come to see the
movie in theaters if you haven't before for its
40th anniversary and stay for the event that
is Optimus Prime Awakening. They are not marketing
it as come to see Transformers the movie plus
the new ending to the movie Optimus Prime Awakening.
They are marketing it as Come see the movie which
you know and love and have known and loved for
the past 40 years. And this new thing which is
separate from what you've known for the past
40 years. So it's almost like you're getting
two shows for the price of one. True. I mean,
I'm just excited to be able to see it in theater
to begin with. Absolutely. And, you know. When
I say this, I don't say this to be a Debbie Downer
or a Decepticon Downer. I've already had my theatrical
experience with the movie. I had it for the 35th
anniversary. I'm good. I've got the pre -order.
I'm assuming the 12 -minute short Optimus Awakening
will be on the physical media sets. Again, I
will reference because we three mics talk all
the time in our group chat. Cybert pointed out
that we all hope that Hasbro only puts Optimus
Prime Awakening on the physical media releases
and does not put it on. Like, it's fine to put
this this like. 35 second clip. of the thing
on their YouTube channel, do not put the 12 minute
short on your YouTube channel. Put this on the
release of the movie for people to buy the physical
media. Don't put it on your YouTube channel for
people to watch it because I think that defeats
the purpose of having people go to see it in
theaters. Now me, I, I already pre -ordered the
40th anniversary set. Because I can't get to
the theater kind of thing. So I'm already buying
the 40th anniversary set anyway. But I'm assuming
this will be a bonus feature on there. It will.
But I don't think that Hasbro should put Optimus
Prime Awakening on their YouTube channel, even
for premium members. Like, even if you pay for
YouTube premium, I don't think this should be
on YouTube at all. I agree with you. Should not
be. Because, you know, it's going to happen even
if it is on YouTube for premium members exclusively.
Even as a premium member, you can still hit that
download button and you could go put it else.
Not that you should. Don't do that. That's wrong.
but you know what i mean there are people out
there that would do that that like we don't i
don't want this thing even though i'm sure people
will do this because you know it's how the way
the world of the internet works i want this thing
to be on exclusive discs only like if you want
to see optimus prime awakening if you're able
to do so Get your ass out of the house and go
to the theater. If you're not able to do so,
like me, wait until November when the physical
media release releases. But yeah, the 35 second
clip. Very cool. I'm not exactly sure why this
is in the clip. This will be in the show notes,
folks. Not exactly sure why Bumblebee is wearing
a Decepticon symbol. Shattered glass. Yeah, yeah.
Galva Bumblebee. Galva bug. Wow. All righty then.
He's got the horns of Galvatron. Yeah, yeah,
yeah. Yeah, that's true. It's very true. And
then to... That's, uh, yeah, to, uh, piggyback
off of this, uh, we got a one, two punch of 40th
anniversary movie things before we move into
the 2027 info, but, uh, the, um, 40th anniversary
early world premiere. Thanks to board members,
LRJ 2007 and Drew ski. along with some Reddit
user, whatever, whatever, a couple of Reddit
users. Images and information about the recent
Transformers, the movie 40th anniversary early
world premiere. This was a limited event organized
by Hasbro Collider. Oh, so Hasbro's in bed with
Valnet. Yay. And again, who? Yeah, that's why
my sarcasm. Yay. Of course, who isn't in bed
with Val Nant? We aren't, thank God. Well, I
mean, a lot of people used to be in bed with
them, but... Yeah, no. They used to do porn.
Yeah, exactly. And along with Fathom Entertainment
in California. So what this... Obviously, it's
an early world premiere screening. Limited event.
The screening had some rules for the guests.
First, no spoiler embargo. Oh, that's interesting.
Second, they got to watch it early. In exchange,
had to consent to being filmed to do post -screen
interviews so that they can use the footage on
social media. Guests were able to watch the new
Optimus Prime Awakening short film as well. The
short animation is 3D, but looked like 2D. So
that's freaking... As much as I like the story
of the Spider -Verse films, I hate the Spider
-Verse films for doing this whole 2D, 3D combo
of animation. That's the one thing I don't like
about Optimus Prime Awakening. is in the animation.
Most of it looks 3D, but the effects of it, like
when Soundwave shoots at him and the blasts hit
Optimus, the smoke effects are all 2D smoke.
That's just ugly. Don't do that. Pick 2D or 3D
and stick with it. There was a Q &A with the
director of the event, too. The director of the
short film said, This was a labor of love spearheaded
by Zeb Foreman of Hasbro Films. Some Studio Series
Deluxe toys were given away to the audience,
to the attendants, one figure per person, including
Kranix, Sunstreaker, Windcharger, and Wheeljack,
for example. Optimus Prime Awakening official
posters were also given away. So, yeah, very,
very cool. Anyone who lives out there in the
sunburnt state of California who got to got to
attend the early premiere of Transformers, the
Transformers, the movie. There you go. So, yeah,
this. This this particular. Part of the movie
stuff. Mm hmm. I'm excited for the disc. Yep.
Because of, you know, various Q &As, various,
you know, the clip. But I also have the 20th
anniversary DVD and the 35th anniversary Blu
-ray. Yeah, I've got the... I've turned away
from the microphone because I'm trying to find
the dang thing, which... Should be easy enough
because it's the fifth one down and it's still
in it. Yeah, I have the 4K Ultra Blu -ray. Which
one is this? The year is 2005. 4K Restoration.
I don't even know which one this is. This is
the one with the... Yeah, I mean, I have the
4K Ultra HD and the Blu -ray. Two discs set.
Yep. From five years ago. But I remember buying
the 20th anniversary version at like Kmart. Oh,
yeah. 20 years ago. Yeah. I bought this and it
had two discs. It had the theatrical and the
full version. And I don't know if you know this.
They had you remember the Scramble City commercials?
Oh, yeah. Yep. So we tried to get, like, I think,
and I'd have to go back and look, the Scramble
City episode. I want to say that was our fan
dub. Yeah. I think it was. Which, if it was,
and I'd have to go back and look at the disc,
if it was, I was in it. Yeah. Very cool. So.
I just watched Scrambled City, the episode, the
fandom earlier with my kids. And they were like,
wait, you were in this? And I was like, yeah.
Yeah. I was like, I played Blades and I played
Superion in it. So, yeah. I don't know. I'm excited
to see this, even though this will be like third
time's a charm, like triple dipping. yeah i'm
kind of done after this i'm a little irritated
that they keep re -releasing it like this like
every five years um like i get the 20th anniversary
get like 40th you know 35th i was kind of like
is this really necessary but i mean i get it
technology and stuff changes really the only
reason i want this is because of the awakening
clip yeah I don't like, I feel like the 35th
anniversary is perfect. Like you got the 4k restoration,
you got, you know, uh, some of the, the musical
stuff, you got the documentary, you got the looking
back, you got all these people that are doing
commentary on it. And I, I really don't know
how much you could really improve upon it, but
yeah. I'm looking forward to it strictly from
the reason of I want the clip with it. And I
love the cover artwork compared to, you know,
with the prime. Yeah. Like I like the cover artwork
out of the three. So the cover artwork. Is, I
don't know. I'm one of those types of people
that I will specifically for Transformers the
movie. I didn't on this one be on the 30th or
35th or whatever version. Or maybe I did. I don't
remember. Did I buy multiple versions of this?
I probably did because I got the posters. Um,
yeah, I did. I bought the steel books. So I bought
this multiple, the, the shout fact, well, it's,
it's shout factory this time too, because they
have the, they have the stuff. They have the
touch as, as the kids say, 40 years ago. Uh,
but, uh, I usually buy steel books for the most
part when I can. And the thing with Transformers
the movie 35th anniversary is Shout Factory offered,
oh, if you buy the steelbook, you get this poster.
If you buy the regular edition, you get this
poster. So people can't see this because it's
an audio podcast. But on my wall is the poster.
of one of these covers and then the steelbook
had a poster of rodimus opening the matrix yeah
because that was the cover of the steelbook the
steelbook was rodimus opening the matrix the
thing about the 40th anniversary is that Again,
as much as I love, just like, and again, I echo
my buddy Mike Seibert. He has, like this dude,
almost more than me. He lives, breathes, eats,
drinks, sleeps Transformers the movie. It's his
drug of choice. If the dude did drugs, his drug
would be Transformers the movie, anything and
everything. And I say that with love and with
factual accuracy, and he'll tell you the same
thing. So he leaned in to the curve on the apology
before Peter passed away with the apology tour
marketing. Full tongue in cheek, all the way
in, into the skid, into the curve, all the way.
I have the poster, the apology tour poster. I,
you know, so when they revealed that the steel
book 4k edition of the 40th was going to be,
the cover was going to be the apology tour poster.
Everybody was like, okay, cool. Awesome. That's
great. Peter Cullen passes away. They should.
And Mike wasn't thinking this. He, he was more,
okay. It hurts, but it kind of still makes sense
with what they've already done. Don't change
it. Use it to honor him, but they're still going
to change it now. And I think if I have this
right, I think the art is still currently not
final. And what is there on Amazon is the, I
don't want to say it's a, it's a placeholder.
It's the placeholder art. And it still says art,
not final. So we don't, I think they pivoted
though, because the original one was of his,
you know, dead corpse. Yeah. That's what I'm
saying. Yeah. Yeah. That's what I, yeah, that's
what I'm saying. They are pivoting, but we don't
still know what the pivot to is going to be.
That's the, that's the issue. Well, if you check
the DVD version of it on Amazon. It is a finalized
cover art. It's the 4K Steelbook edition that
doesn't have it finalized. Yeah, that's what
I'm saying. The 4K doesn't have a finalized art.
DVD, let me look. I'm trying to click it. It
won't let me click it. Stupid Amazon. Well...
At least on Amazon here, it shows the 20th anniversary
version. That's sad. Oh, you see the 20th anniversary?
Yeah. Yeah, I have that. Yeah, I know you do.
The Blu -ray shows some weird Transformers the
movie Blu -ray, which is... That's not it. Yeah,
I know that's not it. I don't know what that
is. Cause they're not going to do a separate
Blu -ray. I think it's just 4k and Blu -ray.
Yeah. Let me, let me look. There's a second.
Yeah. Both, both DVD versions that I just clicked
on. Yeah. Both DVD versions show the 20th anniversary
version. So they haven't, they haven't even figured
it out yet. or they haven't updated it yet so
i don't know uh but again still looking forward
to it and we will do a full uh film reaction
once you uh get out of theaters uh once you go
see it which will be in a couple of which is
why i was surprised we even did this episode
but yeah next week so um i'm excited to go see
it to be honest yeah september you got your tickets
for the 20th right yeah yeah so 30 showing yep
yep yep yeah so we uh we might have to do a monday
episode or a tuesday episode next because i want
that immediate raw reaction oh i don't think
i'll soon forget i'm not saying you would but
we old man i get it we old we old all right let's
see here we got uh okay we got these uh 2020
new 2027 info found yes Cybertron, TM1 Megatron,
exclusives, and more. The only reason why we're
even bringing this up, because there are no,
right now, yeah, these are just listings. There
are no photos other than the gamer edition looking
one photo there. The only one I'm discussing.
I don't care about any of the other ones. But
you wanted to talk about the TM1, Stragen Leader
TM1 Megatron. Speak. Yeah, so, I mean, I'm excited
for this particular figure because, one, it's
30th anniversary of Beast Wars. But, two, it's
about dang time. We got some transmetals, man.
Like. We've gotten Diffusors with Quickstrike
and Silverbolt. We've gotten Transmetal 2 Dragon
Megatron, which they botched the head, which
is why a third party had to come out with a better
edition of it. And then we haven't really gotten
anything Beast Wars other than Season 1. And
to me, this is like a sign that they're at least
dipping their toes. And I think they're starting
with Transmetal One Megatron for the sole purpose
that the original had gold plastic syndrome.
Yep. And the other one was so blasted brittle
that I actually saw on TFW about three months
ago. Somebody created a 3D print of all of the
parts that shatter. Oh, no. Like, and it looked
good. I was quite surprised. I looked at it,
and I was like, okay, this has promise. I was
tempted enough to find a broken Megatron for
as cheap as I could get one. I didn't buy it.
I bid on a few, but they ended up going beyond
what I was willing to pay. I was like, I'll pay
like $15, maybe $20 for it shipped, just so I
can 3D print the components and then put it back
together. Just so I can say, oh, I've got a Transmetal
One, Hasbro, you know, trans metal Megatron.
Yeah, I have the trans art trans metal Megatron.
Don't get me wrong. I love that figure. Yeah,
but you want probably the pinnacle, the favorite
figure of my entire collection. Like I loved
that figure as a kid, but it was so small by
comparison. Like now it's scaling wise. The original,
you know, mega trans metal Megatron. was perfectly
scaled to optimal optimus based on the show.
Yeah. This other one, the trans art one is like
10 inches tall. So like all of them are there.
He's, he's bigger than optimal almost, which
is kind of a travesty. So like I, I've always
wanted another one of this Megatron and I've
owned four of those trans metal Megatrons over
the years and they all broke every single one
of them. No matter how much I tried to salvage
them, they did not survive. So that being said,
I am super stoked for this. The only thing that
I hope that they can do with this is turn it
into a true Transmetal. The Transmetal 2 Megatron,
as much as I liked having the figure, the paint
decor on that thing was atrocious. The face sculpt.
was Robots in Disguise Beast Megatron. Yeah,
it was. And I had to source a mask, like a faceplate,
on eBay to replace it to have something that
looked like actual Transmetal 2 Megatron because
the original face looked nothing like it. And
then I repainted the entire figure to give it
almost like a shiny paint coat. So it's not like
vac metal, but it's not, not vac metal, but it
also shines when the light hits it. And so like,
I have all of that shine to it. So I, I almost
hope that if Hasbro does not do the vac metal,
give us some very shiny, you know, purpley paint
for that, you know, reflective paint for, for
the transmittal aspects of this figure. Like,
give us something and then and then give it the
engineering that it probably should have had
from the start. Give us a proper face sculpt.
Give us proper, you know, if we can get Studio
Series 86 Megatron and Optimus Prime that look
like they came right out of the cartoon. Yeah,
movie. There's no reason nowadays that we can't
get a beast figure that looks like it came out
of the cartoon, too. And so I hope my hope with
this is and I feel like they've. been wanting
to dip their toe into this particular figure
for a while just based on what's been said over
the years but i feel like this is the one that
they're starting off with the strongest because
people have have been clamoring for this one
specifically with the gold plastic syndrome and
i think you know being that some of the guys
developing these are collectors too yep they're
very aware that there is the gold plastic syndrome
and so they i feel like this is kind of like
themselves giving them the figure that they want
to so i i 110 will be purchasing one of these
when it comes out uh i'm i'm super stoked uh
the the leader class although like some of them
are borderline voyager class or sometimes deluxe,
depending on which ones they are. I hope this
is a true leader class sized figure. Yeah. Yeah.
Because it does say Trojan leader TM1 Megatron.
I don't know. The generations line leaders. Like.
I mean, we're all generations figures. I mean,
even the studio series. Yeah, I know. I understand.
But like, OK, so I have a photo that keeps popping
up because of Facebook memories and everything
else. But like. Remember Optimal Optimus, the
original Optimal Optimus. Yeah, I forget what
ultra figure, not ultra supreme. yeah yeah yeah
yeah that to me supreme back in the day that's
what a leader class figure should be i know it
would be price point oh my god i need to put
it how that's a down payment on a house but these
days especially in this market but like that
size of figure That like, and I know you want
it to scale into, you know, which we're going
to talk about here in a minute when I, when we
talk about the seven pack in hand images, we're
going to talk more about this in a second, but
I'm looking at my kingdom leader class Galvatron.
Cause I have the, um, reformatted all purple
version of, of that version of Galvatron. And
he looks fine as a leader class figure for today's
age. I forget when that originally came out a
couple of years ago to maybe 23, I think, or
22. I forget originally when the kingdom Galvatron
mold came out, but I don't know. I just, I'm
wondering like, How, like, Transformers Generations,
specifically since we're talking about this,
like, all of these other listings are, because
this is 2027 listings, so you can't do, there
are Studio Series 86, poof, gone, because it's
no longer 86. It's no longer 40 years. So it's
just now Studio Series. plainly deluxe and they've
distinguished them because you know we're not
going to talk about any of the rest of these
because specifically we were here to talk about
tm1 but we've got idw bumblebee based on the
all hail megatron design of the character we've
got tf1 bumblebee which gamble on which version
of tf1 bumblebee is that the 2010 camaro is that
the beat -up old volkswagen yeah it doesn't really
say yeah no but that that's my point is it doesn't
say but i'm saying it's tf1 then we got tf4 crosshairs
we got uh fall of fall of cybertron jetfire we
get fall of cybertron optimus prime fall of cybertron
megatron but all of these listings here Trojan
studio series. There is no other specific designation
because 2027, 1987, unless you're going to do,
unless you're going to give us 40 years of jump
starters. Ooh, an updating of twin twist and,
and, and, Oh, Oh, what was his name? Twin twist
and jump jet. No. What was the, anyway, but the
point is like 1987 was the end of generation
one's cartoon, even though the toys continued
on, even though the comic continued on, but essentially
87 was the end of the cartoon series. There really
isn't anything to. have a studio series year
marker celebration of blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah. So now we have to figure out what else
are we going to be celebrating? And which is
why they're just using Trojan studio series,
which I'm not even sure why they're still using
studio series. Cause like the rest of this is.
Like Megatron himself, tri -gen leader TM1 Megatron.
You don't even need Studio Series for Megatron.
It's just tri -gen leader and then leader new
prime blue Onyx retool. I'm not even trying to
get into the rest of these. I'm just trying to
legislate. Yeah. So maybe... Hello? Yeah. Yeah?
Did I break up or something? Yeah, it cut out.
It may have recorded it, though. I don't know.
Oh, great. So I just went on a tirade for nothing.
Maybe. Did you hear any of it? I heard part of
it. Okay, I went on a tirade about Hasbro's hellish
brand naming. Yeah, I heard about part of that.
It's just... Yeah, about that it's kind of pointless
to go into the Studio Series. Yeah, like, it
just is. I don't know. You want me to summarize
it for you? Sure. Okay. So, edit point. What's
Hasbro going to do in 1987? Why are they still
using Studio Series if they still have... Try
Jen leader TM one Megatron. Great. That's awesome.
But then they have leader new prime blue Onyx.
And then I don't know. It just, there's nothing
to celebrate in 1987. It was the end of the cartoon.
The comic was still going on. The toys were still
going on. Unless you're going to do the, a new
version of the jumpstart or I don't know, dude,
it just. Hasbro and their hellish branding just
gives me a headache. But TM1, yay, tri -gen leader
TM1 Megatron. Hopefully he'll pair nicely with,
I think this was one or two or might have been
longer than that months ago when we got first
packaging reveal of the Beast Wars 7 pack. We
now have in -hand images of the Beast Wars 7
pack. So how tall do you really want them to
be once you see these images? I mean, I would
like Transmetal Megatron to be, you know, in
scale with Generation 1 Megatron, or, you know,
G1 Megatron and Optimus Prime. Because, like,
I feel like none of these Beast Wars characters
were leader class. No. They were all, you know,
except for Megatron. Like, Beast Megatron. He
was the only leader class. Like, everybody else
was Deluxe, Core, or Voyager. Yep. And, like,
I felt like Cheetor was too small. Rattrap was
too small. The others were pretty much right
on. But, again, like, I love that they finally
gave them the paint job they should have gotten.
Yes. For these. Because, like, I mean, just looking
at them, I really like the decor that they finally
did that should have been on them from the start.
Because I repainted all of mine. Now, mind you,
I only had Tigatron, Airazor, and Rattrap and
Dinobot from this group because I have a Masterpiece
Cheetor, I have a Masterpiece Primal, and I have
the Thrilling 30 Rhinox. And I have Masterpiece
Rattrap now, too, which scales much nicer. But
I repainted Airazor and Dinobot because there
was a lot of elements on them that were not accurate.
But, yeah. I don't know. I like that they finally
did what they should have done with these. If
you didn't buy the first go -around of these,
this is probably the way to go. But if you've
already bought them, I don't know if it's enough
to purchase them again. They do look much nicer.
Depending on the mode. some of them look better
in robot and some look better in beast but yeah
i i think that these these are i think they're
fine for what they are now what doesn't look
fine is the mattel creations hot wheel transformer
bumblebee behind the scenes you know stuff like
yeah so i grabbed this looks terrible yeah i
grabbed the behind the scenes thing for this
because All the other articles were just, hey,
it's been announced. Hey, it's this. Hey, it's
that. And when I saw the announcement of it,
the first thing that popped out to me was, okay,
if I were to get this as a loyal Generation 1
Bumblebee fan, I would only leave this in Volkswagen
mode. I would not transform this. And I'm probably
going to get a little vulgar here. So you may
have to bleep or you may not have to bleep. I'm
just warning you ahead of time. And the reason
why I'm going to get a little vulgar here is
because when I first saw this, my first thought
was, and again, maybe it's just me and my vulgar
head. Why does his hood have to be so large?
What's he hiding between his legs? Like, I don't
know. It just, it looks weird. The proportions
of that hood in robot mode. It's kind of like
junk in the trunk, but in the front kind of thing.
Like it just, it looks, the robot mode looks
freaking weird to me. I don't like the robot
mode. It looks terrible. It looks bad. It makes
the original toy look beautiful. Yeah. The car
mode is great because it's, it's, it's Mattel
creations. Hot wheel. It's hot wheels. Of course,
the car mode is going to look great because it's
freaking hot wheels. The car, I have nothing.
Like if I was just going to buy this for the
car mode, I wouldn't have a bad thing to say
about it. If it didn't transform, if it was just,
hey, look, we're going to give you a Volkswagen
generation one Bumblebee with an Autobot logo
on its hood. Great. Awesome. Cool. Love it. But
it transforms into this really weird and his
head sculpt, his face sculpt. He looks like he's
constipated. Oh, yeah. Bumblebee doesn't look
like he's having a good time. Yeah, I get kind
of what they're trying to go for. It looks, it
reminds me, you know, you remember those old
Choose Your Own Adventure Transformers books?
Yep. It looks like one of the Bumblebees from
the cover of one of that. Legitimately, it looks
like that. How? Why would they even do this?
Hot Wheel Transformer Collection collaboration
thing where it transforms and they use the original
base and then they took inspiration from the
animated version. They took 300 hours of work
and yet it still looks so bad. Yeah. like why
why choose figures that already are established
just create something new with it yeah because
these look terrible okay okay i had to go to
the because i i like i said i sent you the the
behind the scenes link i had to go to the announcement
link The official Mattel Creations website have
been updated with the full official reveal of
new Mattel Creations Hot Wheels Moloid. Well,
we are having technical difficulties tonight,
folks. Yikes. Yes, we are. This will be a fun
edit. No, it won't. This will be an edit point
for you. I'm going to put in an edit point right
here. Click, click, clickety click. I'm going
to restart that. I'm going to restart that whole
thing where I say I found the other link. I went
to the other link. So weird. Yeah. Saturday night,
apparently at 1110 Eastern Time does not like
us. This is what happens when, you know, podcasters
that normally don't record on Saturday nights
record on Saturday nights. All right. Edit, edit,
edit, edit, edit. So I went and I found the other
link for Hot Wheels Bumblebee because I wanted
to get the actual information for it. The official
Mattel Creations website. has been updated with
the full official reveal of the new Mattel Creations
Hot Wheels Transformers Bumblebee. This new die
-cast transformable figure will be up for pre
-order since September 17th. Well, it's not even
close to September 17th yet, but it will be soon.
For $65. 300 hours of work. $65 MSRP for the
ugliest face sculpt in Bumblebee, Generation
1 Bumblebee history. I can think of plenty other
things, whether they be real life things, whether
they be, you know, responsibility things in life,
or whether they be fun things in life to spend
$65 on than a transformable Hot Wheel Bumblebee.
Yeah. Any other. Figure we've talked about tonight,
any other figure we've talked about in the last.
17 years, 18 years of this podcast. Honestly.
Like I like and I cannot justify spending $65
just to get the. The alt mode for this one. Normally,
I would justify somehow just getting a transformer
figure for just the alt mode. Can't do it here.
Not going to do it. Isn't going to happen. Not
going to do it. Not going to do it. Not at all.
Not going to do it. Nope, nope, nope. Isn't going
to happen. Speaking of things that are worth
spending your money on. We have the latest line
of the Transformers Funko Pops. So my buddy,
the pop analyst over on Instagram. Also, Disc
Trackers on Instagram. Disc Trackers is the main
source that I usually keep up with. Revealed
the. Pop toys, pop retro toys. Transformers,
the movie Funko Pops. We've got Optimus Prime
in the jumping movie pose. We've got Grimlock
in dinosaur mode. We've got Prowl, Wheeljack,
and Mirage. Now, I was not sure which Optimus
this was going to be. They've done a lot of Optimus
Prime over the years since they've had the Transformer
license. They've got him in... movie metallic
colors they've got them in generation one cartoon
colors they've got nemesis prime they've they've
done optimus many many times over the years and
when the listings were first announced of oh
optimus prime it was just optimus prime no parentheses
no like no nothing Same thing for Grimlock. I
didn't know what Grimlock was going to be. I
didn't know. I'm like, okay, so I already have
Grimlock in robot mode. He was a convention exclusive
from, I think it was Emerald City. a couple of
years ago. And I thought to myself, okay, well,
the only thing they can do with Grimlock is put
him in dinosaur mode. That's going to be interesting
as a Funko Pop. And that's exactly what they
did. I kind of wish they would have taken it
one step further and actually put his apron on
him because that would have been really cool.
That would have been a really cool, cool callback,
but they didn't. That's fine that they didn't.
Do that. And then we have Prowl, Wheeljack, and
Mirage. Three figures we have not gotten to this
point. So three brand new figures. Okay, I should
say, technically, they are five brand new figures,
four brand new, and then Optimus Prime jumping.
I mean, it is a new Optimus Prime. It's the jump
pose from the movie. But again, it's another.
optimus prime with then four brand new figures
that we've never gotten before so but no i love
these i i think they're great um and we do have
which again i know i've mentioned him a lot in
this episode but my you know ding the bell mike
sybert he's gonna hate me for that reference
and he knows exactly why Yeah, that's the reference
I usually give him. But anytime he mentions our
other buddy, Anthony Bercali from TFU .info,
every time he mentions that guy, he actually
plays a ding. And it gets to me. But Mike has
to buy anything with the Transformers the movie
logo on it. So when I sent him these, he's like,
damn it. like well you gotta buy it the logo's
on it it has the logo it has the has the 86 font
but uh but yeah no very very cool very excited
for those and uh and yeah so there's that uh
this uh before we get to the comics this last
uh bit of thing I'm already excluded from this
because they only have clothing up to 4XL, so
I can't fit any of this stuff. But I don't know.
Transformers X Rucking Fotten. Yes, you heard
that right, folks. There is a clothing company
out there called Rucking Fotten. I had to read
it like four times to myself when I got the news
earlier today to make sure I got the thing right.
Because I'm like, wait a minute, I better say
this right so I don't screw it up on the show.
But they have a Transformers the movie collaboration
with Autobot logo, Transformers the movie stuff.
They've got an Optimus Prime shirt. They've got
a Megatron shirt. They've got a Transformers
the movie poster shirt. They've got a Rodimus
shirt where Galvatron is shooting in his chest
and he's holding the Matrix up. Like I said,
this stuff only goes up to 4XL, but I do think
it's cool. I do really think it is cool. Yeah.
I like some of these. It's definitely playing
off of the Over the Pond graphics. Some of these
I remember seeing on early internet days because
I remember drawing a Rodimus Prime. Oddly enough,
we had to do an art class, had to draw a picture
of a self -portrait. Yep. I didn't do that. I
took like a little picture that was about like
a three by two that I printed off the internet
of Rodimus Prime. And I drew it on a, like a
one and a half, like 18 inch by like 24 inch
piece of paper. And I was like, yeah, this is
me. And I had like a picture of Rodimus Prime
just like as a joke. So that's what this reminds
me of. I kind of like the hats a little bit as
well as like the specifically the prime where
he's like slanted over like from Transformers
the movie but I don't know if I would care enough
about any of these to buy it okay so remember
earlier when I said about the bumblebee and the
$65 Transformers the movie the touch 50 by 60
inch woven tapestry throw blanket. Limited edition.
$64 .99. I'll put my $65 to this blanket over
that bumblebee. Because it's just the movie poster
without the lettering on. It's just the movie
poster art of them firing up at Unicron. uh,
as a blanket. Like that's cool. That's, that's
cool. Oh boy. Then we, then we go over to comics,
the world of comics. Yes. The world of comics.
So we got November and we kind of started, but
not really have December. I don't know what's
going on. With December, because I saw on Instagram
and TFW has the Instagram thing, but they don't
have the. We've got the images, but we don't
have the actual information. So in November.
We get and I did not have this automatically
pulled up, which I should have. Oh, there. Oh,
here we go. In November, we get Transformers
38, written by Robert Kirkman, art done by Jason
Howard, Mike Spicer. Who or what has emerged
from Megatron's cocoon? Sorry, Autobots, you're
not going to like it. And then in December, the
Energon Universe edition scheduled for December
arrivals include Transformers 39. Void Rivals
37, G .I. Joe 29, and Mask number 7. So there
are no actual discussion things here. It's just
the fact that they and DFW 2005 just grabbed
what Skybound and Image put out on Instagram
and stuff. Because December for Skybound is anime
month. So all of the covers for all of the comics
are anime -inspired. So coming November 2nd will
be Mask. Transformers 39 with, I believe that's
Elite. I can't see. It's in black and white.
Will be coming December 9th. G .I. Joe is December
16th. Void Rivals is December 23rd, right before
Christmas. So, yeah, we don't actively have the,
which is, I guarantee you, I say this all the
time to Jesse when we do another comic review.
As soon as we read solicitations, if they are
available, if the next, like if we're close,
like we just read solicitations at the end of
August, one of our episodes. I said, I said,
as soon, whatever month we're missing. As soon
as we finish hitting that record and we hit the
stop button, 40 minutes later, a day later, two
days later after we've done the record, what's
going to pop up? The month we were missing for
solicitations. Same thing here, folks. As soon
as Steve and I hit the stop button on this record,
I guarantee you it's a Saturday night right now.
I guarantee you either Sunday or Monday or Tuesday
or Wednesday or whatever the next week. The solicitations
for December 2026, the actual information is
going to come out. But we do have the covers
for anime December. Or the Skybound books. Oh,
and then there's there's that, you know, looking
at the solicitations, I think that Transformers
38, I think that cover looks like G2 Megatron.
Yeah, what I'm wondering about the Transformers
38 in November is on Bleeding Cool, and I'm pretty
sure this is how Skybound sent this to them.
Why is cover A and cover F the exact same cover?
No idea. So cover A is... This is the very top
one, the big one. And then if you look down all
the way at the bottom, right under it, all the
way over to the right cover F the very, very
small one, it's the exact say who screwed that
up. And you're probably right. He is. Cause again,
Megatron is under some sort of cocoon. He's under
some sort of, you know, transformation because
he's been he's been out of commission for for
issues and like we haven't had Megatron in the
book for I when was his last 31 30 like we just
reviewed actually we're about to well again to
date this show tomorrow night Sunday night we're
going to be reviewing 35 and 36 is a double shot,
which is the final two issues of the current
arc. So this is issue 38. So this is the second
issue of the next arc. Megatron has not been
seen since, I want to say, issue 30, the end
of the previous arc. Because issue 31 was one
of his origin stories, one of his origin story
chapters. So yeah, it's going to be very interesting
to see what Megatron, which version design of
Megatron pops out of whatever butterfly, caterpillar,
cocoon he's been in all this time. Yeah, I'll
be interested to see what they do just on that
front, just because I'm a huge fan of G2, and
I know that we're getting some Machine Wars Optimus
Prime coming in the near future, too. Yeah, I
think so. And a new G2 Megatron. whatever they
can bring into the comics means that eventually
we'll see it in the toy. Yeah. So. Yeah. So I
think that's, I think that's everything, right?
Yeah, that's pretty much everything. Yeah. So
let us know what you guys are hoping for, for
Transformers, for some of their reveals this,
either this fall or this winter. some of the
things you're looking forward to, some of the
things that you are not. The Transformers, the
movie, if you're going to see it or not, just
let us know in the comments or on the website,
thegcrn .com. Look for this episode post. Anything
else before we close out? I think that's it.
Just tune in next time for the Steve Megatron
live, not live, but reaction to Transformers
the movie in theaters September 17th. That's
when it's in theaters. That's not when he's going
to see it, but you get the point, folks. You
get the point. Yes. Well, well, well, it is time
to end the podcast. Yes. So until next time,
transform and sin. Yes. Yes.
No chapter markers for this episode.
