Sentinel Online, now loading the Geekcast Radio

Network of podcasts. You're tuned in to Steve

Megatron on Altered Geek. Hello and welcome to

Altered Geek. I'm your host, Steve Megatron Phillips,

and in this episode of the podcast I'll be talking

about a variety of different topics from, well,

superhero universes ending and films that I've

never seen up until recently. Among other things

and some classic games that I just recently got

back into that I'm thinking about doing a live

stream about So yeah, without further ado gonna

get into the episode. Sorry about the lack of

episodes on Fridays It's very hard for me to

have high energy at night for multiple reasons

I'm burnt out by the end of the day, which makes

things very difficult And in the fact that I

have to be very quiet Because apparently my voice

travels and so my kids can hear me and then when

Being laid off. It's just a lot of different

emotions going around so Yeah, I'm four weeks

into this this time, which is one week shy of

the last time I was laid off So we'll see what

happens soon Anyways, I'm doing freelance stuff,

freelance writing, freelance graphics, website

stuff, so if anybody needs anything, be sure

to let me know on Twitter by adding me at SCP

-21. So anyways, in other news, we have the CW

Arrowverse and... It's kind of sad to see it

starting to Slowly close down and compact itself

and seeing the fact that arrows going away, but

with arrow going away it leaves possibilities

for new shows and Next year, we're gonna have

crisis on infinite earths. We're gonna have batwoman

We're gonna have a variety of other shows, so

it only opens up the window for new programs

I've heard where rumors that Supergirl is going

to get cancelled and they're or they're going

to shift it to Superman being that they brought

in John Crier's Lex Luthor recently and I don't

know I'm kind of wondering where this thing's

gonna go where this ride's gonna go obviously

they're going to Sacrifice Oliver based on the

crisis under the nurse crossover and then kind

of going from there to The actual crossover because

they stated that they needed Kara and Barry to

survive the attacks ahead But Yeah, I don't know

I'm kind of I'm kind of hoping that We get to

see something coming down the pipe for more we're

programming and obviously they don't have to

have Oliver green arrow typically just totally

100 % disappear. I know that Cisco is gonna leave

the show at the end of the season so It's gonna

it's gonna really mix things up having all of

these different scenarios going on With the arrow

version. I have a feeling that despite everything

else It's it's not gonna change the title of

it just from the arrow verse to like the flash

verse or or something else I really I really

doubt it Either way, it's going to be an interesting

road. We'll see. Anyways, I saw that Jeff Goldblum

reposted this and it was on somewhere. They had

him mention an article from entrepreneur .com

where They said that in five years, we could

possibly see our first dinosaurs by reverse engineering

them from chickens, which I think, by the way,

is a terrible idea. And then that's when he brought

up this quote of him from Jurassic Park saying,

you know, just because we can doesn't mean that

we should, you know, and I thought that that

was... Quite honestly brilliant on his behalf

creating a meme from his own Vocals that that

he he said And I just I don't know I thought

it was kind of interesting I I don't think it's

a great idea But when has that ever stopped scientists

or anyone else for that matter from crazy talk

Yeah, it's getting interesting, to say the least,

as far as all of that is concerned. So I did

see Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel was a good

film. I had some gripes with it. It was mostly

just because it was jarring in the story. It's

not because it wasn't good and fun. Because I

will preface that it has nothing to do with that.

It's a female hero. I could care less About whether

it's male or female character, I just I want

a good character and basically she's like the

The the nice progression or replacement for Tony

Stark Captain America because she's got kind

of that Patriotic ness to her, but she's also

got the hand blasters. So it's you know and can

fly and all that so We're getting a combo deal

out of her to replace two heroes, you get one

hero. So it was kind of interesting. Plus it

was fun seeing Nick Fury very green and not his

hardcore self that he is later on. So that was

a lot of fun to see that and see how his whole

eye thing kind of happened and you know that

he does have a fun side and soft spot for cats

and things like that But yeah, I mean once once

they had Captain Marvel on earth the show was

the the film was great and There was a lot of

sarcasm a lot of aspects in there But it was

it was pretty fun. I mean as a whole So I definitely

recommend, you know, seeing it. And you also

get to see how the pager thing comes across,

so that's the other cool thing. I saw a movie

recently that, somehow it popped back up, probably

because Brie Larson's in it. It was Scott Pilgrim,

of all things. I've always heard people talk

about it. I've heard my Canadian friends talk

about it. I've just never Had an inkling to see

it Just because I saw it as like a B flick and

I saw it as something that I just like yeah I

don't really care like it wasn't really on my

radar and to be quite honest I Didn't have any

reason to go and watch it and the other night.

I finished writing an article I was like, you

know, I just need something stupid something

fun, let's see what this is. And so I turned

it on, I watched it, and I was pleasantly surprised

that it was actually pretty good. I liked how

when he took out the ex -boyfriend scenario that

they would turn it into coins. It was kind of

fun. So, yeah. It was fun, either way. Something

else that's fun is when Facebook goes down the

entire Twitterverse loses their damn mind People

are going, you know, when your job is basically

to be on Facebook and Instagram all day Yeah,

it's it's It's it's nuts to be honest People

just just how you know how bad people are Losing

it over that I mean I get it don't get me wrong

I get it like if your job surrounding that it's

it's it sucks, but still it's just social media

We could we lived without it. We can still live

without it like it's not the death of of You

know the internet or anything You know like that

clip from from that the IT crowd you know I have

the internet in a box and then they they hand

it to her you know and present it and then you

know they Crush it. Oh my god, we're all gonna

die and then you know, the IT guys are sitting

in the background like Yep, and they fist bump

and then it's it's great So yeah, I mean it's

I don't know I don't see the There are other

things that people could be doing if that's not

working. That's I guess that's my point in this

whole crazy scenario So Netflix recently did

something. They changed how the media center

works for press to review shows. They now require

you to have a Netflix account. And it was previously

thought that you had to sign up for Netflix accounts

to be a critic. but they're actually giving free

accounts for screeners' purposes on the Media

Center. So far, I have yet to get this thing

to work properly, which I need to email Netflix,

but I did manage to get my... because I already

had a Media Center account, which is how I saw

Lost in Space before it came out, and then a

bunch of other crap went down. But, yeah, I mean,

it's... And they did promo it that was great,

and I'm thankful But that means I can also go

through and review all the other content too,

so I guess we'll see what happens As this little

game plays out I have a feeling that what they

were thinking is that they were going to charge

the critics and they were like you go to hell

you go to hell you die or Decide on you decide

on you cow at Netflix, and yeah. So, I'm kind

of in agreement that they give the free account.

I think it's kind of pointless that they make

you have to go through all that, but meh, it's

Netflix. Hulu, on the other hand, is, I don't

understand this, but you can get Hulu for free

if you have Spotify Premium, and it's a limited

time thing. Which, don't get me wrong, it's kind

of cool that you get it for free. Anytime something

comes to you for free, it's great. I recently

wrote an article on five alternate streaming

services you can get. Instead of, you know, Amazon

Prime, or Go, or whatever it is. No, it's HBO.

Or Hulu, or Netflix, and I have a list of that

which... I'm not going to really divulge, because

one, it hasn't published yet, and two, I'm going

to share it on my social media once it comes

out, which is on commando .com. I'm trying to

get a little bit out there all over the place.

I like freelance writing, I've discovered, and

it's not terribly difficult. I get about an article

or two a day at this point of this recording

anyway. It's, again, nothing to sustain. So,

moving into a little bit more of the film -verse

stuff. For some reason, Suicide Squad 2, James

Gunn's film, replaced Will Smith with Idris Elba,

who myself and Booth Ninja both agreed that Idris

should have been John Stewart Green Lantern which

would have been the perfect pushing off point

of Green Lantern having a lead African -American

superhero and it has nothing to do with the PC

thing it just has to do with I loved I grew up

on Justice League and Justice League Unlimited

so John Stewart Green Lantern is like my Green

Lantern Hal Jordan, I get it. I get it, he's

the main one. But honestly, I prefer the Jon

Stewart one. I prefer the group that we had in

Justice Lake. Cyborg wasn't a part of the main

core league at that point. You had Martian Manhunter

instead. Instead of Aquaman, you had Green Lantern.

Instead of... You know you had this this group

anyway, and so like I guess that's kind of where

I'm at with it Similarly to other things though

I saw something pop up this week about Tron 3

which I would love if they would make it I doubt

it's gonna happen. It's been nine years since

the last one came out and the the producer of

Tron Legacy Kind of mentioned something about

it and I was like, you know, I get it He's not

putting up hope giving up hope but disney's got

so much money riding on marvel and lucasfilm

right now that's not gonna happen And in the

pirates thing is gonna get rebooted Just because

they're done with johnny depp and like that whole

ride And they kind of they kind of bookended

it at the last movie. There really was nowhere

else to go with it, you know Captain jack got

the black pearl back barbosa died. Like I mean,

it's just kind of which I still never have done

that M -Warner episode. That's the last one I

have to do of the pirates before I can close

that stupid saga out. I enjoyed it, don't get

me wrong, I enjoyed the saga, but I'm kind of

done with it. And then I saw something that Deep

Space Nine, the something that we left behind

or whatever documentary that they have, recently

got picked up by Shout Studios, which is owned

by Shout Factory. And it's what we left behind

and they kind of talk about what the season 8

would have been, the ships that they would have

had, like they remastered some of the show, a

lot of interviews, a lot of stuff like that.

I'm looking forward to when Shout comes out with

this because I really want to review it and talk

about it because I think that this would be an

interesting thing. It may get covered here or

future imperfect. I'm not really sure. The lines

have kind of grayed between the two different

areas for me, to be quite honest. But yeah, I

mean, it's it's kind of fun Seeing what what

could happen or could have happened and and I'm

a little sad that it's not but You know, that's

the past but you never know. I mean with Patrick

Stewart getting his new show I mean we could

end up with another DS 9 related character. It

won't be Cisco, but who knows And then the trailer

for Batman V or verse not V Teenage Mutant Ninja

Turtles dropped and it's got kind of that almost

like the 1970s style Batman kind of in there

or kind of like the the more recent like blue

costume dark blue costume that we've gotten recently

in animation or like the toys and It's it's voiced

by Dietrich Bader. We get the Joker in it. We

get penguin. We get you know the bat gallery

It's all Gotham City. They they get the The Ninja

Turtles which all one of the like some of them

sound like the classic turtles or at least the

you know various iterations 2003 or you know,

but again, they're they're really good at choosing

the voices for that stuff So but it looks really

interesting. They're gonna have some of that

mutagen In it they're gonna have you know, the

shredder they're gonna have a lot of that going

on. So I think that that's going to be very fun

to unpack when that comes out. I should be getting

a review copy of it when it comes out, which

I will gladly review on DVD or Blu -ray or whatever

it is. I have the methods to do it now on my

PC. So that'll be awesome. And then, of course,

Getting into like some some gaming stuff. I Recently

I forget why I was doing this but I Was looking

up people. Oh, that's what it was Trisha Hershberger

From like source fed and everything else that

she does now Had a post on Facebook And It was

Yeah, it was um It was about doom and I Can't

pull it up right now because Facebook's dead.

Um, but anyways a good thing I looked at it prior

This is actually my second go -around of recording

this episode Because the first one was terribly

boring and it sucked So anyways she had a picture

of Like the floppy disk of doom the original

one and I was reminiscing about Going to these

computer shows That that were out Back in the

day, you know back in the olden days Back in

the early days when we didn't get internet in

and things of that nature So yeah, there was

a demo of doom that I used to have or actually

we had the full game It was four discs. Anyway,

so we played doom and That's how I got good at

playing on a keyboard mouse Actually wasn't even

a mouse. It's just keyboard back then Crazy.

Yeah, because now I play with my Xbox 360 or

with just the keyboard and mouse, so it's really

strange. But anyways, that's how I get to be

so good at the first -person stuff, and those

were super inaccurate compared to like the modern

stuff where it's like needle point, eye precision.

And I was kind of reminiscing about it, you know,

because the game scared the crap out of me when

I was a kid. And... Now, going back to it, I

kind of was having fun with what other games

did I have, you know? And I went to classicreload

.com because you can play a lot of these games

for free online because it's more of an archival

thing than anything else. So I went through the

gamut of a bunch of games that I played, either

for computer or for console, like Altered Beast

I played. That's probably where I got Altered

Geek from. To be honest, I used to play that

game a lot on my Sega Genesis, but I used to

play Commander Keen 4, Secret of the Oracle.

I used to play Descent, Desert Strike, Doom,

Doom II, Duke Nukem 3D, Monuments of Mars. Played

on some of the educational front, like Adventure

Math, Crayola Art Studio, Math Blaster Plus,

Math Rescue, The Backyard, Oregon Trail, Treasure

Math Storm. And then they have things like Moraf's

Morjong or Spherejong. You can get Heretic, Final

Doom, Jazz Jackrabbit, Ultimate Doom. The one

game that I originally, the first video game

I think I ever played that was not educational

was F15 Strike Equal 2. They have it on there.

Which came in handy because when I played a flight

sim where we actually had to get in the thing

with other people... I was able to fly the plane

upside down and take out the other, like, nine

to ten to twelve different people that were in

the other sims. It was some kind of a thing that

they had in Canada. When we went to Niagara Falls,

they had like a pizza place that had a flight

simulator in it, and they were like, alright,

we're gonna take down these planes. And then

I was like the beast that was flying upside down.

Nobody wanted to be partnered with me because

they're like, you're flying upside down. You're

doing it wrong. And then I was the last one sitting

there and they're like, man, they're like, where

did you learn how to do that? I'm like, I got

a flight sim at home. And it was great. So, but

they let you emulate Windows 95, Windows 3 .1,

3 .11, which I had all three of those. Command

and Conquer, Command and Conquer Red Alert. the

Microsoft Entertainment Pack arcade for Windows

Marooned on Mars Mega Man X Aladdin Star Trek

25th anniversary, which I had I want to go back

and try and play that just because I Had the

floppy or this or the floppy series could never

beat it Could not figure it out. And so like

I'd love nothing more than to go back and actually

beat it Because it's one of those games that

I just never could Then they had the Cubasic

Gorillas. I don't know if anybody remembers Cubasic.

It was kind of the programming thing before Visual

Basic, or, you know, it was a DOS -based programming

thing. And I played Cubasic Gorillas and Cubasic

Nibbles at one of the schools I was at at one

point. And the Cubasic Gorillas basically put

in coordinates and the speed, and they have buildings

that randomly generate. And then you try and

blow up the other gorilla with an exploding banana.

A lot of fun. I recommend going and checking

this site out just so you can go play some of

these games. It's a lot of fun. And funny enough,

you can download a lot of these as their own

individualized apps on the Android market. I

don't know if iTunes has them or not. But a lot

of these, like the Cubase Gorillaz thing, you

can download it for the Android market. You can

also get like Sonic the Hedgehog classic, Sonic

2, Sonic CD, Streets of Rage, 1 and 2 on the

Android market as a game on the App Store. Now,

my Galaxy S5, I will say, can't even barely get

into these stupid games, probably because it's

old, but it's still... like Cubasic I was able

to get into and that one you have to like pull

back and then it it doesn't do the coordinate

thing or the Speed you it's it's the the length

of the arrow and the angle that you put it at

When you pull back next to the gorilla and that's

where it goes. So it's a little difficult to

control Streets of Rage has almost like a emulator

style with the keypad and the movement on the

sides of the screen And then like it's got a

it's almost like a game gear style how it looks

when you use your your setup. So it's a lot of

fun to do that as well. So comingsoon .net posted

a funny poll actually saying should Tim Burton

and Michael Keaton make a third Batman movie.

Which is interesting. Somebody put like the Affleck

armor around him and a seat belt and has the

the golden emblem and like a modern Keaton chin

and in the original mask and it says He's back

or something to that nature But To be honest,

I think I would really like to see that even

if it was even if it's a hypothetical just because

the two would make this spectacular movie just

because Burton makes weird stuff and Keaton still

refers to himself as Batman much like the Bruce

Tim verse of Batman the Animated Series how Bruce

Wayne refers to himself as Batman even in Batman

Beyond even though He's not. So the poll has

over 6 ,000 votes and it says, yes, take my money

now at 88%. And then it says, should Batman 3

be based on, and then it says The Dark Knight

Returns, Batman Beyond or both. And it's tied

for both and Batman Beyond at the same time,

which to be honest, I would love to see a Batman

Beyond film and I've been kind of clamoring for

this since like 2005 when the last movie came

out and I Think that it could be really interesting

to be honest That being said it'll never happen,

but I still think it would be kind of cool So

this is an addendum in an update to altered geek

there dropped the Avengers endgame trailer and

Kind of breaking it down for you We start off

with First of all this trailer has me hyped plus

it goes back to like all of the the various introductions

Where iron man, you know Kind of mentions that

you know it had been years since he came from

that cave and and became iron man And you get

to see like that Then he he kind of goes through

his whole you know saga briefly and You you see

him adrift in the the ship in space then it goes

to the Steve Rogers stuff and has agent Carter

talking and Then you get to see Hawkeye and his

family and You know him being Ronan and then

you get to see Black Widow, then you see you

know Cap bearing her and then Thor with Odin

From the first movie and you see Thor and then

you see Hawkeye disintegrate you see you know

Black Panther Disintegrate and then Thor's commenting

on you know there's all these people like what

you know Scarlet Witch and everybody else that

disappeared And Cap is like I keep you know,

telling people that they gotta move on, but not

us. And so you could see him, Hulk, Black Widow,

Ant -Man, seeing what's gone on. And then you

see a ship coming back down, which looks like

the one that Tony was adrift in, even though

it's probably not. But you see Ronan and Black

Widow with the new hairdo and... You see all

these guys going and and rocket is on iron machine

war machines shoulder and They're all bringing

the band back together You just see all of them

getting their Their their battle moves and training

and saying whatever it takes like they're all

going through this this barrage of whatever it

takes and you see some climactic battle where

they're all just Damaged and everything else

and then you see them going from the Avengers

hanger wearing that special Red and white armor

like all of them wearing it Where roadies is

like the most built up because he's got to wear

the war machine suit or he's not able to walk

But then they're all going towards this direction

and It does the endgame thing and Finally we

we get to a scene where Thor is coming up in

like a jacket and sees Captain Marvel in this

particular apartment and he puts his arm out

while they're looking face to face and his hammer

Which was previously destroyed but looks more

epic and spectacular here Was comes flying back

into his hand and then he just looks at her they

kind of look at each other she smirks and he

he looks at the rest of the group and says I

like this one and he's holding his hammer you

know resting on it which looks more epic than

it did in the previous films and it looks like

they picked Captain Marvel up in the beginning

or or it might be a like an earlier time that

they pick her up It's hard to say because black

widow's hair is is that blonde from infinity

war here, and it looks and you see You know roadie

and you see you know black widow and them and

and everything so I don't know It's kind of difficult

to to judge here What time period that part takes

place? And then kind of going from there, but

I definitely have to say that I'm very stoked

for infinity war Or not infinity war endgame

to see what they do with it It's gonna be unfortunate

to see a lot of these characters go by the wayside.

I hope that Thor sticks around for at least a

couple more sagas of some kind but Since Iron

Man and Cap are probably gonna be the two that

bite the dust in this one But who knows who knows

what's gonna happen, but I'm definitely looking

forward to this film So anyways, this is gonna

end out the episode of altered geek this week.

I hope you enjoyed it a little bit more than

normal Hope you enjoyed the excitement if you

get so many comments questions or suggestions,

please Send them to me on the either the website

Preferably on geek cast radio comm I'd love for

as the what you think about the website and everything

else I'm gonna take some of these into consideration

and do some tweaking But again, if you'd like

to comment on the episode, we'd love to have

the feedback and love to have the comment suggestions

There's gonna be some other things. I'm gonna

be basing around some of the articles I've written

as well as some other things so uh until next

week get altered get geeky with the altered geeks
