Altered Geek
NES Classic, Go90, and Netflix Changes

About this Episode
You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek. Hello and welcome to Altered Geek. I'm
your host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining
me in this episode is... Dear Joe and Mike. Yes,
yes. Another week... is here. Another week and
you still don't have a job. No. As you would
notice, there was no Tuesday episode this week.
I didn't have time to record it. I was too busy
looking for jobs. Because that essentially is
my job now. Is looking for jobs. Not what I want
to spend my time doing. I would like to work.
So, yeah. I'm on week two. This is not the way
I saw things going. I did have an interview,
which... I went through two interviews and then
by the end of it I get an email saying I was
not chosen and I was like, oh, that's... That
sucks, dude. I was like, um, yeah, I wasn't really
looking forward to this at all. I was kind of
hoping that I would have gotten something, but
yeah. So I get to sit and wait. Yeah, so for
anyone looking for website design, website builder,
graphics, any kind of graphics, any kind of audio,
you know, you're only going to have to pay $39
.99 an hour, you know. That would be nice. I
know, right? I wish. I know, right? As for me...
Well, as of this recording, July 3rd was the
first time in 15 years that I saw a theory of
a dead man live. I had originally seen them when
I was living in Louisville, Kentucky at a place
called Jillian's. They were opening for... Three
doors down at that time. It was them and 12 stones
and both of those bands 12 stones and theory
of a dead man basically debuted the year before
in 2002 I actually know the drummer from 12 stones
He worked at a Mississippi radio station when
I was living down there at the time But it's
been up until you know July 3rd It had been about
15 years since I've seen him live absolutely
loved the band So that was super fun Karen and
I went to that the other night Fun little outdoor
show at the Great Lakes Naval Base here, so very
very cool So I've been doing that slowly, but
surely working on podcasts Optimus O and I are
Getting Masters in Space done, but we ran into
a snag episode 96 poof, it's gone. We don't know
what the hell happened to it. I don't know if
I didn't record it. I know we did it. I know
we sat down this past December and recorded it.
I think it was obviously after the wedding and
the honeymoon, the mini honeymoon that Karen
and I took, but it's not where it's supposed
to be. It's nowhere else. I did a complete search
of my computer. I even did the... the backend
type of searching that you can do on computers
and I cannot find the damn thing anywhere. So
I drove myself nuts for two days dealing with
that. And then on June 29th, the NES Classic
returned. I don't know how long ago this was,
but there was an episode of Altered Geek where
Michael Powers had mentioned that he had an extra
SNES Classic. And I'm like, oh, hey, cool. So
as soon as he said that, and he said, I'll probably
just, you know, I'll sell it eventually, or I'll
just leave it lying around, or whatever it was
that he said at the time. Soon as he said that,
I stopped the podcast, and I messaged him immediately.
I'll take it. Tell me what you want for it. So
huge thanks to Booth Ninja. I have a SNES Classic.
I've had that for, I don't know, most of this
year, I believe. I think we got it. Yeah, we
got it right out since about March or so. We
got it right as we bought the new house that
we bought. Karen's like, well, Super Nintendo's
really not my thing. I like the original NES,
and I'm like, okay, well, there's one of those
too, but who knows where you can get one now,
because that isn't the third party screwed with.
and i've never put any faith like i put less
faith i put more faith in ebay and less faith
in facebook marketplace anything else we found
one on facebook marketplace she really really
wanted it i'm like it doesn't look right First
of all, it did not come with 202 controllers.
It did not have 500 games There's something wrong
with this we get the thing home It opens up to
a screen that says Chinese or English and English
was the second language choice. Okay, whatever
After that we it's basically just a list of games
and it's 500 games and I'm like Super Mario Angry
Birds. What the hell is this? What this is a
I was super salty about the whole thing. I was
Felt like so much we paid 50 bucks, which is
fine. Whatever but It's like damn it. I wanted
the real thing and then they had announced that
hey, it's coming back. So On june twenty nine
actually june twenty eight is when i had placed
my order cuz it was like right at midnight central
time which is obviously one am eastern time but.
According to my my receipt from game stop online
i have it as june twenty eight anyway. We got
it, it took me a couple of refreshes on the site
to be able to actually select it. I got it, I
did it, and whatever, and oh man, I love that
thing. The problem for me is, I've been playing
Super Mario All -Stars for so long, it's hard
going back to Super Mario Bros. 3 when it's not
the All -Star version. But yeah, so I now have
a NES and a SNES classic, yay there. Just continually
trying to get podcast on You know house stuff
and all of that are one Karen and I's one year
anniversary is coming up As far as how long we've
been together. So that's that'll come up next
month Yeah, just try to stay sane Yeah, that's
very difficult to do. Mm -hmm. Your theme song
right now is Cypress Hill What's that? Insane
in the brain! No. Yeah. I've got too much time
on my hands. Yup. Oh, yeah, it's quite sad. I'm
not enjoying this at all. Like, I enjoy the family
interaction right now, but... Well, yeah, obviously.
And I'm getting random things done, like, just
around the house, just things done. but it's
eating at me. Like I feel like I've been betrayed
of like the ultimate source just because like,
I don't know, it's kind of almost like this weird
ego thing, but not really. It's like a pride
thing. The fact that I was laid off, not because,
you know, I did anything wrong, but I mean. I
mean, that's comforting in that sense. Like,
I did my job well, but if I did my job that well,
why did I get laid off? Like, it just doesn't,
like, it's kind of eating at me. Like, I've,
I had like a mental snap the other day on Facebook.
I'm like, look, I was trying to keep this quiet
in hopes that I got this other job. It didn't
happen. And so I was sitting there and I'm like,
I need help. And so I've had this flood of emails
and in kind words and conversations from people
giving suggestions as far as like jobs to look
for or compromises to make. And I get it. There
may come a point where I'm going to have to just
take something to take something. And I accept
that. But for the moment, I'm not like that desperate.
I'm still trying to find a full -time job and
I'm still trying to find something in media.
If I could get a part -time job in media at this
point, I would take it. Just so I could get my
foot in the door. Because a lot of the time,
they hire part -time and then you have to work
your way into full -time. Which, like I said,
at this point, it's preferable to working at
Art Van or McDonald's or something like that.
I would much rather go into my field and work
part -time. Mm -hmm, then you know work somewhere
else like I've had people suggest you know the
post office FedEx and granted There's nothing
wrong with any of these jobs. It's just I've
got this degree, and it really kills me I'm not
using it um So like I'm trying to find work in
that so now I'm going through like trying to
find recruiters and trying to find all that stuff
so And I've been through like every job. I'm
like indeed which my my college They use this
college board thing for alumni to use. And it
links to Indeed listings under your degree. The
only problem with that is I've already applied
to all of them outside of it. So it didn't make
a difference. And the problem with applying online,
and this was something I discovered this week,
was you apply online, they get thousands of entries
for these. So it's information overload. So nobody
actually gets all of the resumes that are sent
in. However, if you go into the business that
is hiring for these positions and has it online,
they'll accept your resume, but they promptly
tell you to go apply online. So it's like a catch
22. You're kind of screwed either way. So you're
ultimately at the mercy of the machine and the
machine is broken. Yep. Just imagine though,
dude, 20 years ago, having you just hit the pavement
and do it. So at least with the online job search
things, at least you can do it from a comfort
of your own. It's easier in that sense, but it's
also more difficult because there's no face to
face, there's no personal interaction, so that
means that nobody cares who you are. That's true.
You're just another piece of paper. It's easier
to cut ties with it, whereas if you're standing
in front of the person doing the interview, it
gives you that personal interaction. I think
it's kind of a lost skill because I've done phone
interviews and I've knocked them out of the park.
The only problem is that somebody has one extra
thing on me that I don't have usually. And, you
know, I never find out why I didn't get the job,
even though the phone interviews go really well.
So it's, I don't know, it's kind of annoying
in a sense, like just because I remember applying
to physical jobs where I walked in, I filled
out an application and I handed a resume and
then I got hired. It wasn't like this big Hoopla
that you got to go through now, which is kind
of annoying so Yeah, that's what I've been doing
Yeah learning the ins and outs and and so like
in some of them they if you contact them get
a little annoyed that you're contacting them
like it's it's just You're kind of at the mercy
of the machine and like I said the machines not
fully functional But Very true. I plan to call
some that I applied for, so hopefully I get something.
There you go. So moving on to something a little
bit nicer. Well, not so nice, but still different.
When are the fireworks gonna stop, because holy
crap. I know. Oh wow, that was a big one. Yeah,
I... We actually didn't go this year. We went
and met my family, although I did have something...
not cool happen. We were swimming in a family
member's pond and it goes down like 17 feet and
I was using the water camera and then we were
messing around on the dock trying to push each
other in the water and the water camera strap
broke. And the water camera went tumbling to
the bottom of the 17 -foot pool. Oh, jeez. Or
pond. And so that's where our camera lies to
this moment. As of this afternoon, which sucks
because I got pictures of the boys' first fish
that they caught. Oh, sweet. And I was like,
oh, that's great. And then I'm like, oh, that
sucks because the camera's at the bottom of the
water and there's no way to get it back because...
You have to be able to see, and none of us could
get down there far enough. See, this is why I
don't swim in lakes, rivers, streams, ponds,
anything. It's either a pool or it's a hot tub
or nothing. And by pool, I mean in -ground, not
this above -ground crap. Yeah, well, it's technically
an in -ground pool. It's just a pond. They had
it cleaned out recently, and it's, yeah, so...
I'm a little sad that our camera's at the bottom
of the water. Plus we lost pictures from my birthday
when we went to a water park because I forgot
to bring it in the house and just dump it to
the PC. So I think my next one's going to have
Wi -Fi so it automatically dumps to my Google
Cloud when I bring it in the house. Oh wow. So,
yeah. Yeah, it's been a fun two weeks. Did you
hear they finally cast Goose's son in Top Gun
2? Who's that? I don't know, some kid. Some kid?
That's all you got? Probably. You bring it up
and you're like, hey, did you hear they cast
him? I don't know. Yeah, I've not even... Here's
some blasphemy for you. Haven't seen the first
movie all the way through what yeah You're like
you're like no, no, that's that's terrible dude
miles teller is the boy's name. I don't know
he was in the It's got the other it's got that
actress that can't act That could be any number
of people. It could be. Miles Teller was also
the dude that was Mr. Fantastic in the failed
Fantastic Four. Reboot? Yeah, the reboot. He
was in Divergent. Oh, okay. Yeah. He was in Whiplash,
though. He was really good in Whiplash. I don't
normally go for that kind of movie, but it had
J .P. Simmons in it, so it was really awesome.
But yeah, that doesn't surprise me. He's been
trying to get something better than every action
movie He's been in has kind of been To this point
so I Hope that God they changed the name of the
movie though. What is it currently called? Top
Gun maverick Like, can't you just call it Top
Gun 2? Doesn't have to be Top Gun Maverick. I
mean... Everyone's calling it Top Gun 2. I know,
but I'm looking at IMDB. Well, IMDB is not always
correct. That's obviously true. Well, but this
Yahoo article does say Top Gun Maverick. Mm -hmm.
Cruz will be running the Flight Academy while
he looks... barely changed by time in the first
promo photo that Cruz showed back in May. The
film would reflect how much the world has changed
since the original debut in 1986. Cruz and company
including Valtemur will be working amid drone
technology. Fifth generation fighters in the
end of the era of dog fighting as reboot director
revealed last fall. Yeah, so it sounds interesting.
So I'll probably watch them both like back to
back. It sounds interesting, but like, I don't
know. I kind of wish they would have announced
Meg Ryan to come back at some point because she
was Goose's mother. So that would be kind of
cool if she was back. Or she was. She would be
Goose's son's mother, obviously, because they
were together in the first film. I don't know.
I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. The other thing
that's kind of a bummer is Go 90. I was getting
ready to check for the new Prime Wars, Power
of the Primes last episode of the trilogy. Although
they'll probably do another trilogy after this,
who knows. It is run by Machinima for the most
part, produced by it. But I was looking at the
top of the page and it said 7 -30, July 30th,
Go 90 will no longer be available. And I was
like, why? And it says that it was being rolled
into Oath, Verizon's subcompany, which also owns
Yahoo and AOL. Which Oath just recently killed
Yahoo Messenger for the month of July and killed
AOL Messenger back in April. Which I didn't even
know Verizon owned them. I just knew that they
owned Yahoo and AOL. So it's kind of interesting
that they're rolling everything into this oath
product which just sounds strange and and I mean
it's all Verizon owns so like it just doesn't
make sense you know let's roll another one of
our products into another sub company instead
of keeping what we have exactly it's just I don't
know it's granted I don't I'm not all that thrilled
with the way that they're oh go 90 is set up
Like cuz it kind of jumps random episodes of
different shows Mmm, when you get done with one
this is up next and then it just jumps to another
random show like there's no What I usually do
is I will add like there are two series on there
that I absolutely love one is called relationship
status The other is called Zack and Mia and no
there has nothing to do with pornos or any Kevin
Smith kind of crap But like Just saved the series
to my favorites and then I start watching them
and it shows them in order It shows the episodes
in order. So same thing with the Prime Wars stuff
I added those three series to my favorites and
I went through what's the it's not the What's
the first one that it's? Yes, thank you return
and then Prime Wars. Yeah, so I watched all of
You Combiner Wars Played that of course. I'm
finally watching them on a smartphone again,
so But it played them all the way through in
the proper order, so I don't know what you're
doing wrong Well, no it plays the episodes in
the proper order, but when you're actually watching
said episode mm -hmm it brings up a prompt oh
At the bottom it just it picks the next show
that plays after So yeah So yeah, that'll kind
of be a little bit strange when that goes away.
Although, it kind of sucks too, like I said,
because that's the only place I know of to watch
the Transformers stuff. Yeah, I think the only
other place it's posted is the machinima website.
Which I think may be the only avenue at this
point. Had my phone in here I could check but
I don't have my phone in my office right now.
It's in the other room And as if everyone couldn't
tell I'm kind of dying between losing my voice
coughing and everything else I Don't know Life
is making me old now Yep. Yep. You're old. Yep.
Yep. Yep. I know Trust me, dude, you're you're
getting there. You're only six years behind me.
So I'm not there yet. You're close enough although
I have quite a bit of gray hair, but that's mostly
because You should be pulling all of that out
so you can start, you know getting roles as dr.
Scratch and sniff uh... and i i just i don't
even know what to do anymore uh... and uh...
uh... i'm still what like so you know you talked
about last time i was on here about summer watching
stuff and whatever else uh... i don't know i'm
pretty sure you didn't if you did it might only
been one episode then you probably never watched
again if anyone's ever watched the o c from fox
Okay, well Point is one of the stars of that
series had gone on to do another series and her
name is Rachel Billson She now has a new midseason
series. It's called take two where a TV Psychologist
police officer, whatever basically loses her
role and she has to actually become police officer
or something. It looks really cool. It looks
fun and interesting. I don't know how long it'll
last. I think it's ABC. I could be wrong. I don't
remember off the top of my head. So yeah, I've
been diving deeper into Hulu over the summer
because there's just nothing to watch, so. Yeah,
I'm not even really watching a whole lot of Television
at this point. Yeah, so yeah Yeah, I was right.
It's ABC for take two. So it's a fun little premise
kind of thing. I started watching Karen and I
started watching reverie on NBC. It's with Sarah
Shahi who played Sean person of interest That's
pretty good It's you'd actually probably like
it. It's Dealing with technology and almost virtual
reality kind of a thing and So that's fun I'm
trying to think what else like I keep up with
the news, but I don't really like Half the stuff
I'm sharing like from my Google feed on my phone
is like oh I'm gonna I want to look at this,
but I can't look at it right now I want to go
back to it, and I never go back to it. It's like
I'll share three stories within an hour, and
I'm like What was I supposed to be doing what
was I supposed to be looking at cuz just nothing
I don't know I Mean, I'm very happy with where
my life is and where Karen and I are and all
that and everything else but like I Don't pay
attention to half the crap anymore. I don't know,
you know, I just Well, there is that I mean,
you know I think that has a lot to do with it.
We just don't want to. We're old curmudgeons
at this point. Yes, we are. We've been going
to both LA Fitness and the Hunt Club Aquatic
Center here in the town that we live in. So we
basically just do the swimming stuff. We basically
just sit in the pool, sit in the hot tub or whatever.
If we're at the Aquatic Center, we move around
and things like that and whatever. Getting a
heck of a lot more exercise than I used to, so
there's that. Yeah, I'm getting a lot more exercise
too, considering 90 % of my day used to consist
of sitting in front of a desk. Oh, man. I'm learning
new things though. That's good. Yeah. I'm also
trying to build out my SCP -21 studios to try
and... do side work and trying to, as soon as
I get it done, have Mary go around and be my
manager, salesperson, to find me work. Very cool.
As, you know, for my design skills and everything
else. So, yeah, I'm building that out right now.
It's not a lot of fun to do on the back end of
the site because I'm going in the store front
and do it as well so that people can do virtual.
stuff on that but yeah it's it's something we're
messing with very cool San Diego Comic Con is
right around the corner July 19th to the 22nd
and Bleeding Cool has all of the Funko SDCC exclusives
listed Two of the ones I'm really interested
in is Stinkor and Ramman from their Masters of
the Universe Funko Pops. The Stinkor Funko Pop
is actually going to be scented like the old
toy was. That's very cool. Other things coming
out from them, they're going to do a Justice
League Flash 3 -pack. So that would be kind of
cool. They're going to do a Kyle Rayner White
Lantern thing. They're going to be doing Deadpool
as a cheerleader, okay then. And I think Marvel
Studios 10, Iron Man Mark 1, so there's that.
Yeah, I'm kind of boring nowadays, folks. Yep,
you are. Yep, I am. Yeah, I mean some of these
look interesting as far as their differences
in the Funko Pops. Yep. And then they've got
like some other ones that like, Ren and Stimpy
down there at the bottom. I don't know why anyone
would ever buy a Ren and Stimpy anything anymore.
Good draw, Baba Louie. Those actually look like
Cartoon. Yep. Oh yeah, Funko always goes for
the... accurate kind of a thing. So how about
what's hitting Netflix in July? On July 1st we
have a multiple titles, Jurassic Park 1 and 3,
Menace to Society, Scooby -Doo and Scooby -Doo
2, the live -action ones. Stealth. Hey look an
Adam Sandler films fanglish and Adam Sandler
film. It's actually good unlike whatever he's
doing now Happy Gilmore That's true coming to
coming to Netflix. That's true. They've got get
smart. That's a Steve Carell movie. Yep Scream
for Van Helsing, yep, and that's crazy. That's
Hugh Jackman in there. Yes it is Oh Shameless
season 8 good we can cancel our showtime thing
on on Hulu and Karen can just watch it on there
anyway Leaving Netflix in July. Oh boy all of
the bring it on movies, which no one's gonna
No one's gonna miss those no Lethal Weapon all
of them are leaving I thought they were all on
Hulu now. That's probably where they're at now
Yeah, okay, so it's crazy that I just found this
recently obviously it was probably July 1st that
cocktail is now on Hulu So I know where that
Tom Cruise movie went Midnight in Paris is leaving
mixed signals is leaving pandemic is leaving
anyone that one that wants to watch pandemic
Go away Yeah. Ratchet and clank. Yeah. Yeah,
there's a decent amount of stuff. I don't know
about you, but I've never had Amazon. We do.
We actually just switched it because they're
like, oh, we're going to up the price. We were
paying monthly and we're now paying yearly for
Amazon prime We mainly use it for the shit the
two -day shipping than anything else But I've
looked at some of the prime video things and
I've watched some of it, but I have not like
fully dived into it. So Yeah, I I thought about
it, but I was like I Tried it out once I signed
up for it and then I was like this kind of is
not really what I was expecting Yeah So yeah,
I dumped it promptly. I mean, I've had Netflix
before and even that I wasn't quite thrilled
with or happy with. I felt like it was lacking
in some ways. Yeah. In some ways it is and in
other ways it isn't. It just depends on what
you want to watch. How about the Connors 10 possible
storylines for ABC's Roseanne -less spin -off?
I heard they're going to basically sheen her.
They're going to, you know, Charlie Harper her,
yeah. Do we really need the Connors? Like, do
we really need this family again? I don't think
so, but I do think that the only beneficial part
of having the show is John Goodman having him
in the show because I feel like that dude gets
shafted more often than not on television. Oh
yeah. So yeah, I think that he kind of deserves
to get the limelight in the show considering
she killed him off in the last series. Yep. So
it's about time he gets his revenge. Yep. How
about your buddy and mine? Ace Ventura the mask
did we talk about this? I don't remember if we
talked about this or not Jim Carey is going to
be playing the Sonic villain Robotnik aka Eggman
That's kind of fitting. I don't think I don't
see it. I don't see it in if it was animated
maybe but I'm good with it. I'm really good with
it. I Because I like anything Jim Carrey does
I I'm like I What is that movie? It's it's a
remake but he's in it It's like one of my favorite
like Jim Carrey movies, but it's it's even more
Important to me right now just because of the
significance of it The number 23 no, it's Fun
with dick and Jane. Oh, yeah, okay Because it's
about a dude that works in a high profile company
gets laid off Yeah company goes under shortly
thereafter And then he like sticks it to him
by the end of the movie, but I like it more so
just because the fact that it's a Jim Carrey
movie and it's funny, but there's the other part
of it. Not that I have any ill will against my
previous employer, because I don't, but it resonates
with me of the part where he gets laid off unwittingly,
and then he's going to job interviews and it's
just failing miserably. And that's kind of like
the same boat I see this time right now. So it
resonates with me right now on that. So just
for that, I feel like I have to go back and watch
it. Wow. Speaking of going back and watching
things, how about the futuristic Taco Bell from
Demolition Man is coming to San Diego Comic -Con
this year? What's the significance of that? It
was the only restaurant to survive whatever apocalypse
happened in the movie Demolition Man. So, Taco
Bell was open late and therefore wiped out the
rest of the fast food industry? Okay, so in the
movie, there was... I haven't seen the movie
in like... Okay, well I'm telling you in the
movie there apparently was franchise wars and
Taco Bell was the only one to survive it well
There's going to be a demolition man Taco Bell
pop -up restaurant in San Diego during comic
-con for the film's 25th anniversary And it will
come complete with nacho fries if you're going
to comic -con this should be a fun little experience
But if there's a long ass line to get into Taco
Bell food you can forget it It sounds like you've
got like a drumming crew behind you like I know
giving you your own theme song Hey, there you
go. That works which which just sounds awesome
In the background it's just great So I've been
having fun watching the reports on this particular
show, Reboot the Guardian Code, and I've kind
of followed that on this podcast through the
announcements and through everything else, but
having watched the first half, the first season,
this is like the second half of the first season,
they're calling it season two, but it's the second
half first season, because the first half was
10 episodes, second half's 10 episodes. Where
they melded they almost pulled the Tron and Melded
tried to meld the original reboot with like a
bunch of other series Essentially using the reboot
name in a bastardization version of the show
The cliches and the the writing is horrendous
because it's so predictable It's it's almost
like belittling and disgusting because I Acknowledge
the fact that it's made for kids now, but if
kids are that stupid And I say that with with
the utmost kindness because When we were kids
we were giving a lot more intelligent storylines
Oh, yeah, then what they're giving kids now,
which I feel is a disservice to modern age kids
unless they really are Unable to put two and
two together then that's pretty sad Because I
sat there in the first episode and I put together
the fact that the sorcerer is the main character's
dad and They revealed in the last episode of
the series or a season or thereabouts the second
last maybe that The lead character runs into
the sorcerer and then says dad and then he has
a glitch out moment and then recognizes him says
his name and then glitches back to the sorcerer
and runs off and uh they reveal that the dad
was killed in some lab explosion and what happened
is there's a bio uh basically generator type
thing so like essentially what happened is he
created his own version of clue Oh interesting
the dad did like he the program when it Duplicated
him it when he cloned himself in the the software
he was infected by dark code and During the explosion
the real dad was killed and so this alternate
version was 3d printed into a real -life persona
And so therefore was trying to demolish the internet
from then on and he resurrected megabyte which
explains why he knew how to access the original
show to get megabyte out of mainframe and so
like it's I Called it. I didn't call the exact
thing that happened But I knew that it was his
dad from the get -go like it was just too obvious
mmm, and so like it was just it's I don't know,
some of the writing is really bad. I'm still
waiting to see the second half, but this is just
stuff that I've seen people talking about in
the forums that I've been in. And the funny thing
is that the reviews on this show are unbearably
bad. Unless it's done by somebody directly tied
to the production. Which is the other way, it
has five stars. Like everybody else is giving
it one to two stars out of five and anybody that's
in the actual production Or tied to the company
in some way gives it a five out of five They
don't utilize their their social media properly
their marketing campaign is terrible Netflix
recently announced that they're doing away with
the the rating the review system for shows So
like you used to be able to write contributed
reviews to Netflix shows And it says that they've
been sending out emails now saying that This
message here of you contributed a review on Netflix
within the last year We wanted to let you know
that this feature will be retired on June 30th
due to declining usage We appreciate you taking
time to write a review all of your reviews will
be available at Netflix comm slash reviews through
July 30th In other words, they're gonna delete
it all by the end of it. So It's yeah It's just
kind of funny like these whole star ratings and
like the review system that they're just not
doing it anymore because Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB
are the kind of the go -to numbers to go to and
I think they were trying to capitalize on that
before Yeah, even though I find both inaccurate
Mainly Rotten Tomatoes, but that's because I
see it as, I mean, we've talked about this ad
nauseam before, but I see the critic reviews
as total garbage compared to the general audience
reviews. Because it's usually polar opposite.
Yeah, the Rotten Tomatoes system is like, hey,
Rotten Tomatoes feels like this is a 28 % whereas
the users on Rotten Tomatoes feel like this is
a 77 % or whatever it is. I don't know. I've
done iTunes reviews before for albums and for
movies and for podcasts and things like that.
No, I never understood the Netflix review things
like does anybody really read any of those really
like you're what like Okay, perfect example I'm
actually gonna open my Netflix right now on my
computer. Okay Why would anyone on Netflix be
looking at reviews of let's say Arrow season
one or What's something older I have in my queue
here? White collar from USA Network or... The
original, okay, here you go. Original Ghostbusters
film. Why would anyone read a review I write
on Netflix on the original Ghostbusters film
when they can just either watch the film themselves
and either like it or dislike it or they've already
seen the film like I have a million times and
already know that they enjoy it. Like, I understand
the star rating or the thumbs up or whatever
it is that Netflix has currently. Okay, I'm looking
at a show that isn't in my queue, so. I'm looking
at Criminal Minds. They have a thumbs up now.
The star ratings are essentially gone right now
on my Netflix. It's just the thumbs up that's
all that's there. I don't know. Makes no sense
to me. None of it does. I understand Rotten Tomatoes
and Metacritic and whatever because that's...
How movies get popular and don't get popular
but other than that it's like Why do you need
a video service to have a rating system? When
you're only gonna put stuff in the queue that
you actually want to watch like I don't put Just
cuz something's new on Netflix. I don't just
put it in my queue Just because that makes no
sense Yeah, I I used to add stuff that I thought
I would watch at some point. But yeah, it just
kind of depended. Yeah. I don't know. And I use
Netflix still. I use it for shows that aren't
anywhere else other than there kind of a thing.
Like I said, the CW shows right now are there,
so that's the place I get those. I use a bunch
of stuff, like I use my Xfinity account for most
of the stuff, I use Hulu, I use Amazon Prime.
Sadly, I don't know if I can even use Go 90 to
watch any of their original programming anymore
after the end of this month, but you know. Because
that's the thing. Like you were mentioning earlier
about the Go 90 shutdown and oath, you know,
whatever. It's like, so what happens to the Go
90 programming? Is it going to be completely
gone? Or is oath going to just have it to have
it without making new content for whatever shows
I enjoy? Like, I hate that crap. I really, really
hate that crap. It's like, give us an answer.
Like, I know I should wait since that news just
kind of dropped recently. to see what's going
to happen with it, but it's like, no, if you're
going to be shutting it down, tell us what's
going to happen with the content that's already
there. Yeah, I totally agree with you. I don't
know, it's kind of crazy. Yeah, the whole thing's
crazy. But yeah, it's funny because they... They
kind of made this this whole thing of I'm trying
to find where I had it Mostly because I lost
the link But they said that that Netflix is kind
of The the top I think they had like 20 or 39
percent of the the market now over cable Wow,
which is which is just crazy Yeah, which is just
friggin insane because like I Had it they said
it's more popular than Than cable at this point
Okay, I can understand it being more popular
than cable simply because hello if you pay for
a subscription It's ad free I get that or whatever
like I mean even some of the Hulu stuff and I
pay for Hulu There is like one little Like network
ad in the beginning, but that's not really an
ad. It's just though Logo kind of a thing, but
it's one of those things where I understand why
people think it's more popular Because cable
you still have commercials. It's it's broadcast
TV It's cable television wherever you want to
call it and yes if you DVR something you can
fast forward the Kate the the commercials and
all that but I don't know, but even Netflix,
some of the shows that you watch on there, you
cannot fast forward them. I've never not been
able to fast forward Netflix. Some of their original
content you cannot. Okay, the original content
maybe, but like I just mentioned a couple shows,
like White Collar from USA. uh... breaking bad
from a m c whenever i was watching those i was
able to first like you're right probably the
original content you probably can't because it's
netflix's original content and they want you
to actually watch it but i don't subscribe to
netflix for their original content i'm not saying
that it's bad or whatever The Voltron's great,
a couple of the other shows I've checked out
on there are great, but I subscribe to Netflix
to have the CW shows, to have movies like Thor
Ragnarok, which I never saw in theaters, to finally
be able to see The Last Jedi, Star Wars The Last
Jedi, which we talked about whenever it was that
I was on here last. You know, I don't subscribe
to Netflix for their original content. Just like
I don't pay for Hulu for its original content.
I pay for it so I can see Whatever shows I'm
watching ad free. Yeah, and you know not on Television
and there are a lot of stuff that I watch on
on it on on Xfinity So it's not like I'm never
watching commercials But that's why I subscribe
to Netflix and Hulu is for stuff that you know
I can go on Netflix right now and I can watch
Mortal Kombat from 1995 You know, that's what
I pay for Netflix for So yep, they It's funny
enough because they say Netflix has and they
did this this survey between 18 to 34 year olds
Netflix has thirty nine point seven percent of
the market YouTube has 17 Basic cable twelve
point six other is eight point seven Hulu has
seven point six broadcast seven point five premium
cable three point five and Amazon video three
point four Which is kind of an interesting set
of numbers when you think about it. Yeah, but
that's the 18 to 34 market. How about the 35
to 40 or the 35 to 55? See, that's the thing
I would be interested in seeing. That's the real
problem I have with a lot of these ratings and
how they come up with how things are popular
or not now. They're basically targeting, which
they should be. I'm not saying they shouldn't
be, but the basic target market. is eighteen
to thirty four well i haven't been thirty four
in forever at this point so like i'm not even
there yet i know yeah uh... yeah you're still
in the target range in the target range that
doesn't mean that i'd like netflix no no i don't
like cable more though yeah but see like for
me it's not just about solely not it's about
any of the television things like saying, oh,
this is the 18 to 34 market. This is the, you
know, like when the hub was around, oh, we're
marketing to six to 12 year olds or we're doing
this or we're doing that. Well, I'm sorry. No
current six to 12 year old right now. Any child
that's anywhere from the ages of six to 12 years
of age right now is going to know nothing about
Alf or Family Ties or Cosby Show or whatever.
Unless their parents show them like, you know
what when when the hub was around my biggest
thing besides Transformers Prime on their network
was Being able to watch all the old shows that
I used to be able to watch when I was a kid Which
you know Alf was a big staple there for four
years. So I Don't know. It's it's all just frustrating
and it's nuts and it's whatever like how about
seeing numbers for like I just said the the 35
to 59 market or whatever like you know that that
can you know whatever kind of market I don't
know no I totally get it I just yeah it's it's
it's just kind of mind -boggling Yeah, this information
like there's there's a lot missing as well. So
I mean it's kind of well obviously Yeah, yeah,
and it's like, you know how the kids today are
like, oh let's Netflix and chill Well, you know
old people can do that too folks. It's not just
kids that are saying that yeah You have to Netflix
and cheer get off my lawn, yeah So I don't know,
is there anything else we want to cover? I think
we've taken this train wreck down the tracks
long enough. I don't even think Doc Brown could
save this one. We have to go back to the future.
Next Saturday night, I'm sending you back to
the future. I guess I could bring up one other
thing as of this recording. We have recorded
MWIRE 200 and that show will be slowly retired
because there will be a few bonus episodes here
and there, but movie we can review the movie
podcast that you and I started nine years ago
with the GCRN is coming to an end. So we recorded
that. Yeah, it's sad. It's OK. Yeah, it's. It's
one less thing we have to do. That is true. That
is true. I'm sorry, folks. Thank you to everyone
who ever listened to M -Wire. I said it on that
episode, I'll say it here. Anyone that ever checked
out Movie Week in Review, anyone that ever listened
to almost every episode, thank you so much. Yes,
thank you, thank you, thank you, and I'm sorry
at the same time. Hey, did you know? That we
should record in all things transformers next
week Okay, why I just recorded one this week
with Beatles diva. You should record one with
me. There's there's some interesting news No,
yes, we know Megatron's three hundred and fifteen
dollars. No, that's not it They've got information
on cyber verse. Oh, yeah, I saw oh no I saw the
article about who was going to be in the show
and the fact that Hot Rod is in the picture,
but I did not actually... Prime, Bumblebee, Windblade,
Wheeljack, Ratchet, Grimlock, Hot Rod, Prowl,
and Blur, and then Decepticons, Megatron, Starscream,
Thundercracker, who hasn't been in a show in
decades, Shadowstriker, Shockwave, whatever,
they must have lost the Shockwave name, Slipstream,
Soundwave, and Acidstorm. Hmm acid storm must
be in place of like sky warp Maybe because it's
another seeker just a different version mmm So
yeah, it's it's a little crazy plus and we aren't
good I was gonna say plus the toys have started
coming out for it, but Yeah, we should probably
wait until after comic -con because who knows
what the hell they're gonna announce a comic
-con when these comic -con July 19th to the 22nd,
I said it at the beginning of this episode. Yes,
my brain is fried. I know. It's, yeah. I've said
Megatron is not so sensitive. He needs work,
people. Send him work. He can do voices, he can
do web design, he can do whatever. Just start
paying the man. The man needs money. That's right.
The man has a family. That's right. The man's
going crazy. That's right. If people pay me,
I'll record more. Exactly. Ah, man. It's time
to call it a night. So until next time, get altered,
get geeky with the Altered Geeks.
