About this Episode

Steve and TFG1 Mike break down the major trailers and announcements from San Diego Comic-Con 2017. They discuss their thoughts on Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the Justice League trailer and the Flash casting, Star Trek: Discovery's prequel setting and design choices, The Orville, Arrow, Blade Runner 2049, Captain Marvel's 1990s setting, and various other SDCC news including toys, crossovers, and announcements.

Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening

to the geek cast radio network Welcome to Altered

Geek, the SDCC edition. Prior to episode 200,

I'm your host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining

me in this episode is... TFG1 Mike. So, there's

been a lot of SDCC news, obviously, over the

internet for the past, I don't know, week. My

brain feels like a fried green egg. Fried green

tomatoes? Wasn't that a movie? Yes it was, but

my brain feels like a fried green egg. You know,

green eggs and ham. Dr. Seuss, come on! Stuff

posing as meat. It's like the internet, it's

spam. Fake news, fake news! So... That's a spicy

politician! Well, there's a lot of clickbait

out there this week So yeah with speaking of

clickbait Every website in the internet is taking

advantage of it to the fullest with their SDCC

coverage To some capacity even if they're they're

breaking breaking up like stories that were talked

about or Panels and in breaking them into multiple

articles Mm -hmm so that they can maximize ad

revenue Which is a little bit irritating when

you're going through some of them, but It's not

been too bad overall Especially if you're looking

at some of the panels, which really tell you

nothing or if you watch the trailers And I would

have to say my favorite part of SDCC has been

the trailers Except for one because Marvel hasn't

put it out yet the leaked Avengers thing where

the guy was I'm like I'm sorry I'm not gonna

lean right and have my head croaked halfway 90

degrees to watch a trailer that somebody couldn't

get a Sneaky camera into to film what you're

not supposed to film so until Marvel release

I'm saying until Marvel releases the actual trailer

I Looked at that for two seconds and I was done

the rest of it. I love it, but the Avengers infinity

war stuff I'm just waiting for official release

so I can actually enjoy it not you know Get a

charlie horse in my neck like I've had in my

leg for the last two damn days Long story that

being said I Think we'll go down to the the movie

trailers. Yeah, I think I'll start out with There

have been quite a few that I'm especially Excited

for based on the trailers, but I think we'll

start with the Kingsman the Golden Circle. I

Was laughing throughout this whole trailer as

was I It felt like a natural progression to the

first film. Yep The only thing I wonder is how

they revived Colin Firth's character being that

you you saw him get a hole blown through his

head Mm -hmm In the first movie, but again if

it's a comic book movie there would be a way

But he does have a patch over his eyes so they

could chalk it up to that I do love the addition

of the American Mm -hmm version the statesman

Yes, and you have probably the most like yippee

-ki -yay type people in there like they when

I say that I mean like the most Cowboy ish. Yeah,

Yippee -ki -yay, Mr. Falcon. Channing Tatum is

perfect as that. Halle Berry, I wonder what they're

gonna do with her. But it's not the first comic

book adaptation she's done or television adaptation

of something. Jeff Bridges obviously is like

the Michael Caine of the Statesman. And then...

It's it just looks like a lot of fun. Yeah Absolutely,

and that's what the first movie was. I mean the

first movie I think when did we do that episode

128 of M wire I think The first movie was great.

It was interesting. It was fun And I think that's

the point of the Kingsman It's a fun comic movie,

and I'm not saying that comic movies can't be

fun when it's Spider -Man or Iron Man or Avengers

or, you know, any of the Marvel stuff, but the

Kingsman to me, when I first saw the first movie,

it was like, oh, I don't need to know 70 years

of stuff to get into this. It's a set story.

Beginning middle end and it works that I think

at the end of the first film that a sequel was

needed. No because it originally came from a

graphic novel or Whatever. Yeah, and then they

were the second one. Yeah can do another movie

Yeah, see I didn't even know they had wrote a

second one just so they could do another movie

and that's I'm fine with that You know, but like

I said, I'm there are certain movies out there

that You know, I feel do not need sequels at

all Because I feel that that that that movie

is self -contained a self -contained story beginning

middle end and it on a good note or whatever

You know and but the Kingsman the Golden Circle.

I'm very excited for it. I can't wait to see

it the trailers have been awesome Yeah If I were

still in two horror movies, I would probably

be diving for jigsaw the same token I just I

don't care about it this time around mm -hmm

for obvious reasons and Because my horror tolerance

is uh I Can't watch them anymore. Yeah, my heart

tolerance was gone by the time I was 15 I watched

all kinds of 90 on Elm Street and Jason movies

and all that stuff by the time But when I was

five till I was about 12 That's when I watched

all all that stuff because my mom let me watch

it and she kind of made me watch a couple of

them There was one night. She made me watch.

I think it was a which board or which board to

I forget which one Which one is which but first?

Yeah But yeah, I mean I I would have Enjoyed

the It would have been one of those things I

would have seen had I Still been in horror movies,

but I also wonder how that they would How they

would continue it being that they killed the

main character in the third film and then it's

once supposed to take place ten ten years later

and Yeah, they still have the same voiceover

and everybody that was doing the stuff is supposedly

gone except for the guy that survived the first

film who showed up in the seventh film. I like

it for the complexity of the continuity. I don't

necessarily like what happens in the films, but

I find it entertaining just on the... How they

can manage to intertwine all of the movies and

and fill in the story gaps with another film

or pieces of another film Yeah, I have never

watched the saw franchise so It's incredibly

gruesome, but it's it's kind of like if I went

over to You know Europe and tried to speak English

as somebody that only spoke, you know Greek or

what a yeah, you're speaking Greek to me cuz

I I know of the franchise I know of the characters

I know of the convoluted continuity that it has

but Not to sound like a douchebag. I just don't

care cuz I'm not a horror person So, yeah So,

yeah, that's that's kind of the gist of that

Moving down the list we have Thor Ragnarok I

liked the trailer for several reasons, but With

Thor and Hulk's interaction. I think the first

trailer did it better He's my friend from work

What I like about the Thor Ragnarok second trailer

is Well, you see banner Yeah, yeah, and a talking

Hulk. Well, yeah, that's what I was gonna say.

I think I not counting animation I'm only counting

live -action when I say this I believe it has

been It's been almost 40 years since we've had

a true talking Hulk Like, more than two sentences

or even two words. Not since the Lou Ferrigno,

Bill Bixby, I think it's Bill Bixby, I could

be wrong, the original Incredible Hulk TV series,

but I remember Lou Ferrigno talking in that.

I know Hulk talks in animation, Frank, not Frank.

Fred Tatashour does his voice on various things,

like Hulk and the Agents of Smash and things

like that. so I Think this is gonna be really

cool because I don't think he's ever really talked

more than two or three words before this whether

it's in the MCU or whether it's you know Crouching

tiger hidden Hulk from Ang Lee from almost you

know 13 years ago or whatever the hell long it's

been for that I I thought it was probably the

most fun -looking Thor movie Oh, absolutely.

I am not a fan of the Thor films. So adding this

element, not only did they kind of flip everything

for the new phase of the universe of Marvel,

they kind of gave that natural evolution to both

Thor and Hulk. Kind of showed what they were

up to plus it's gonna help connect when they

hit infinity war with and Connected to the guardians

of the galaxy. So yeah among everything. It's

it just looks It just looks the most fun out

of any of those Films and kind of puts it in

on par with the guardians of the galaxy, which

is exactly what Helms Hemsworth wanted Yeah,

when they did a third film, so Absolutely. I

think I think they hit the nail on the head on

this one. Oh, yeah Yes, they have What's next

for trailers um next for trailers we have Justice

League I'll let you go first on this one I Know

you don't want me to curse but I It makes me

so mad. I can look past all of it. I almost forgot

that it was Hacks Snyder that did this film,

and I know he dropped out for personal reasons

close to the end of the picture or the middle

of the picture and whatever. And Wheaton, I think

Wheaton took over. I could be wrong. Whatever.

Just Wheaton. Yeah. Yeah, not Wheaton, not Will

Wheaton. Yeah. The reason why the Justice League

trailer makes me mad is one simple thing. Barry

Allen, the Flash, is not Tom Holland's Spider

-Man. Look at that trailer again and tell me

you did not see some sort of comedy crap coming

out of them trying to do some sort of Tom Holland

Spider -Man homecoming comedy crap out of Barry.

Barry Allen is never in any incarnation he has

ever been in. a character that relies on comedy

and quips and things like that. Not all the time.

He's not Wally. Wally is the comedic one. They

made him like Wally, which it's a different universe,

so I can forgive it for that. Don't see it as

copying at all I just I see it as they're giving

this version of very like almost the Wally West

personality from the cartoon So just call him

Wally. I mean how hard is that? I mean and honestly

and other people have said this a lot of people

are upset that it's not Grant Gustin doing it

from the show I understand why because Jeff Johns

Half -hazardly explained it in that DC film thing

that Kevin Smith hosted where he's like well

The Ezra Miller version is a different universe

or a different version of flash Whereas the TV

version is the main TV version and we want to

keep everything separated and yada yada yada

Well keeping it keeping them separated, you know,

like the offspring used to do in the 90s, you

know, um, that was that means to That exactly

work gotta keep it separated We still need to

put that in here somewhere It doesn't really

help anything at all, keeping your whole universe.

I understand why the comics don't, and the TV

show pulls stuff from the comics. I get the reason

why they don't and that's because of a budget

issue that if they ever wanted to have like Superman

or Batman or any of those characters cross over,

they couldn't because it's a huge payday. And

so even when they go and have, because you know

eventually they're going to have Green Lantern.

We're not Green Lantern. I mean obviously they're

gonna Green Lantern, but I think they're going

for the John Stewart edition with Tyrese but

I I can see it happen. I think I think Tyrese

Gibson Tyrese Whatever, you know the guy from

the early Transformers movies and he had a couple

of you know He had a few hit songs back in the

day. I think and he was also in too fast too

furious as Rowan Pierce, I think Tyrese could

work for for John Stewart, but He's to ghetto

to be a marine character like when I think of

John Stewart the only thing I can think of in

any any incarnation it doesn't matter to me what

it is he like Idris Elba or Yeah, John really

Because I can see him he would he can play that

that straight, you know, yeah very serious Character

that would be fitting of John Stewart Yeah, the

only And again, I know this isn't gonna happen

and I understand that and I get that the only

one I can see in my mind and here in my in my

in my brain is Phil Lamar because of yeah You

know, I'm putting that aside. Yeah. I'm pretty

sure Phil could beef up for the role if he wanted

to. I don't see that ever happening. It would

be cool though. You're trying to, oh, I could

see, you know, Kevin Conroy being Batman in live

action. No, I couldn't. You know, if they ever

want to get rid of Ben Affleck, they can do that.

Well, this is my thing because Keaton still sees

himself as Batman. Yeah. No matter who they cast

he's like I'm secure. I'm Batman Like he just

there's no question about it. He's like it's

it's like Keaton is his alter ego when he talks

about the Batman films So I could see him playing

Like an old man Bruce so he doesn't necessarily

have to do any of the effects type of stuff and

then having Batman Beyond I still swear that

if they go in that direction, but The thing with

Affleck is he's kind of it was it was going around

that oh he may not play Batman or Bruce Wayne

anymore after Justice League. Well, he's still

signed on to do the Batman. Yeah, and People

are saying oh well he he may not be in the next

the next film and And blah blah blah and he's

kind of him and Warner Brothers have kind of

squashed that saying Nope, he's he's still gonna

be around It's just that that's when his official

contract ends kind of like how Downey juniors

have ended after Infinity War well, no his original

one ended after like Justice League or not. Just

like Avengers Yeah, and then he signed on for

more films and then so I mean I see it as that

type of a Yeah scenario because DC didn't want

to sign people up for too many not knowing how

the universe was gonna go and So yeah, I mean

I'm Looking forward to what they do with this

Yeah, I am too. I'm still not thrilled about

how the flash looks Costum wise but yeah, I'll

get over it when the film comes out, you still

have Wonder Woman, you still have Batman, and

you get more of the detective and gear -oriented

Batman that he's been in the past and kind of

very informed. Yeah, I'm still not... I'm still

not completely sold with Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

After watching this this SDCC trailer, I'm just

not like I miss Michael Caine as Alfred I don't

it I he was He fit that version like the Nolan

verse and I'm the Nolan verse is great on its

own But I think there were so many problems with

it one the bat suit. I could not stand All right,

yeah, no, I'm to say I'm long like then you get

how Batman like wussed out before the first or

before the third movie like and he just went

on hiatus for like eight years and is and then

come decides to come back and Change everything

and then and then Michael Caine Alfred is just

I see him as weak By comparison like I see him

stronger than The original one that showed up

in the first four Batman movies 89 yeah, but

alfred at that point. He was like that's the

thing now You know what they're doing with alfred.

They're doing with alfred the exact same thing.

They've done without me They're making the character

younger and younger and younger and younger and

younger I can while I can kind of see that they're

not really doing it for the same reasons like

doing it for the exact same reasons yeah, they're

not But like Alfred in this instance, he's still

older like he's an older actor and yeah, he's

still older than Bruce, you know, yeah 20 30

years but He I see him more of like his role

kind of if you mixed Michael Cain with The the

beware of the Batman Alfred, okay, yeah, so you

get kind of get that that amalgamation of Alfred

that yeah, he's he's frail, but he's not like

not enough to not be able to contribute. Yeah.

Yeah. I see that. I'm half excited for Justice

League. I'm still very skeptical on it. I mean,

I loved Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is great.

Wonder Woman is probably the best DC Extended

Universe film. I just don't want Justice League

to be so damn dark as BBS was. Well it's not

going to be and I can see we're somebody that

didn't like, I mean I didn't like BBS but for

introducing Batman to this universe I saw it

as a any scene that had Batman, Bruce Wayne,

Alfred or Wonder Woman in it was spectacular

the rest of it sucked. Yeah. And I see that that's

kind of lended itself into this. And I think

that they've also learned from Wonder Woman that

people don't want the crap that was Suicide Squad.

Even though it's getting a sequel. It is, but

it's actually Joker versus Harley. That works.

I don't. I'm not going to see it. I have no intentions

of it. I hate the Joker in this series. He's

he's just annoying That aside It appears that

you know with with everything going on that they're

kind of just sidelining Superman Yeah Because

I think there's a good reason for that. Well,

they have a Shazam movie. They have Aquaman movie.

They have Justice League They've got Wonder Woman

2, Suicide Squad 2, The Flash, Cyborg, all these

movies coming, and then a Green Lantern Corps

movie, and then they're gonna do Flashpoint in

The Flash film, which either A, you could end

up with Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing that version

of Batman, like the Thomas Wayne yeah or you

could end up with when the reset universe happens

that they can easily recast anybody because it

would uh they could just change the universe

that way but I I'm liking the uh the characters

they have at this point yeah Don't know I think

the reason why and I could be wrong about this,

but I think the reason why they're Potentially

holding Superman out there somewhere is because

next year is the 25th anniversary of the death

of Superman So they might want to do something

with him in other not a film maybe an animated

thing or something or I don't know they may want

to do some sort of 25th anniversary of that story

because you know I don't know. I'm kind of glad

Superman isn't going to be in Justice League.

I liked Henry Cavill as the character. I liked

him both as Clark and Superman and Man of Steel.

Yes, Man of Steel has its faults and there are

certain things I don't like about the movie.

But when it was him versus Ben in BVS, I just

lost all interest. So I'm glad he's gone away

for a while. Right now the world does not need

a live -action Superman in film You not really

I mean I'm pretty happy with the way this universe

Is going overall it's I'll wait and hold all

judgment until you know it comes out the rest

the way of it. Yeah moving into television Yes

Star Trek discovery What are your thoughts coming

from someone who's not a track enthusiast this

show oh God I I haven't recorded somewhere, but

I'd have to edit it Ryan Merkley and I at night

beat on Twitter Ryan man in full Merkley and

I been doing the Transformers stuff over in the

pull bag and on all things transformers for the

comics and stuff He and I got talking about this

and my question to him was at the time and I

asked you this too as well Where does the TNG

universe where does that timeline kind of stop?

Like before late and you gave me the full timeline

23rd 24th and 25th century And I'm like, instead

of putting it like 10 years before Kirk in the

23rd century, why not put it like 50 years after

Voyager in the 25th century? Like, make it a

future show about that new crew having to rediscover

something about Picard or Kirk or war for deep

data, whatever. It doesn't matter. I don't like

prequels. Oh, there's only a few prequels I ever

liked. And prequel television series just do

not work. I mean, look at Enterprise. Well, going

back and watching it, though, it does. A lot

of it still does hold up and it actually enriches

the future by having it because certain elements

of stuff in that actually do ripple down into

the other shows. But I don't see the necessity

for another prequel. I've always stated that

if they were going to do a prequel the best time

period to do would be the end of the 23rd century

beginning of the 24th and That would still give

them like a 50 year window to play around before

Picard Yeah And then Picard could be driving

the stargazer at that point The other thing I

kind of mentioned in the one of the previous

alter geeks was if they plan to do this show

in seasonal Almost like American Horror Story

arcs And I don't watch that show. I just know

that they kind of change the premise each season

So if they follow the ship Stating that the crew

is not necessarily safe no matter who they are

And follow the ship through that's evolutions

kind of like they did the enterprise like enterprise

Oh one a be you know See no bloody a B C or D

But if they did that with the discovery and then

they started this on the 23rd They could easily

fill in that time span around the enterprise

B between the enterprise B and enterprise C time

period And then they could easily go further

Yeah with future generations of the same ship.

Yeah, and So those were two different methods.

I thought of if they were gonna do a post 24th

century show the Star Trek Online canon or the

game is actually in canon. So it actually does

go with that, but there's still pockets of time

that they don't have explained in the game. So,

but it does help fill in a lot of the storyline

gaps. So again, I mean, I enjoy the trailer.

I enjoyed a lot of the a lot of the the concepts

that went into it and how they revived like the

communicator and The The phaser the tricorder

they kept it all kind of original looking but

it's still Feels off. Yeah, they're being ten

years before Kirk Well, it feels off is because

they've done an amalgamation of all the technology

They've taken the old tech and they've meshed

it with the new Abrams tech and try to me You

know make something which they shouldn't even

be playing in the Kelvin universe if this takes

place ten years before Kirk Yeah, it's not in

the Kelvin universe I know it's not but the tech

looks more futuristic than it should for the

time that they're trying to put it in Is what

is my point here? Yeah, I mean a lot of it's

the CG Compared to the original but yeah and

what they're what they can physically do on television

now compared to just only film Yeah So it doesn't

look pretty polished the Klingons. I think you're

still the most plate and slap in the face in

the whole show Because you have blue Klingons

They're supposed to be like brown All's I can

think of is that 90s Eiffel 65 song blue da ba

dee da ba da That was Brian's like favorite song

for like two years I Feel like I got the blue

man group running through Star Trek with a bunch

of pointy edges Next thing you know Michael Rooker

is gonna come in I'm Mary Poppins y 'all He would

have made a better Klingon He would have So they're

they're chalking it up to different houses having

different appearances. Yeah, which I think is

kind of crap but again, I won't be signing up

for the CBS all -access because Every other country

gets it for free. Yeah, if they have the Netflix

subscription Mm -hmm except the United States.

Yeah, that's BS I mean there are certain other

shows on CBS All Access that I would love to

watch you know go back and watch like my favorite

Nash Bridges and things like that but I'm sorry

I'm not paying I'm not paying for any subscription

based service just to get one show I understand

you get other shows but if it's just to watch

one show just to see what one show is like that's

not no no no no no You mentioned the Klingons

earlier also Those like JJ Abrams, yeah click

on cling off the clinger It's kind of like the

clapper I Am burnt out folks San Diego comic

-con has murdered me and I didn't even go to

the stupid thing What's next for trailers, um,

have you seen the trailer for the orville? The

what the orville? No, it's a Fox show. It's a

Star Trek parody almost akin to galaxy quest.

Oh Wait, I think I did say this Seth Macfarlane.

Yes, I actually looks good though Despite his

His comedy timing and his and the stuff that

he does It actually looks really good and it

looks this it This looks like it would have fit

better before Kirk than what we're getting because

the other looks too polished for that time period

and This doesn't I mean this looks like if you

took like to the original series and TNG and

kind of meshed them together you would have the

the kind of visual appearances of that kind of

stuff. Yeah. And then the uniforms look very,

um, Star Trek, the motion picture ask, um, just

based on design, not color, but design. And,

um, I dunno, it looks really good, which I was

surprised to say about a segment Farland production.

Plus it's free because it's on TV. Yeah. Um,

And they do have Professor Stein in it as an

admiral. Oh, geez. In the trailer giving Seth

MacFarlane's character the captaincy of the Orville.

And he says, oh, I'm finally getting my own command.

He says, yeah, well, we're fresh out of a competent

commander. So. Telling Seth MacFarlane's character

and then they have as his first officer, it's

his in the universe is supposed to be his ex

-wife. Who is played by Did you watch agents

of shield Not past the first five episodes the

first season. Okay, you wouldn't know who this

is. Anyway, anyways, it was a character mockingbird

from agents of shield she also was the the girlfriend

of One of the the brothers in supernatural Uh,

who was killed in the very first episode. So,

uh, so yeah, it's kind of interesting seeing

her on there as well. Um, and then they have

a DS nine alumni playing a doctor in it. Um,

so it's, I don't know, it looks, it looks pretty

interesting. So I'm, I'm looking forward to seeing

that show. I'll let you get into the CW. Oh,

the CW. Take your pick which one you want to

start with We're just gonna go. Well, I don't

even know what order to go in now because they

took it this past season It was Supergirl on

Monday Flash and Legends on Tuesday and then

Arrow on Wednesday, and I don't know what's happening

now with the schedule I know Supergirl is still

on Monday. I know flash is still on Tuesday is

arrow on Thursday now or something like it's

It's all through the CW 2017 2018 fall lineup.

It's all moved around but Let me just go with

the old way Supergirl I Am liking it, but I'm

not exactly sure what the heck is going on I'm

hoping Superman shows up at least once in the

third season I don't obviously it's her show.

I don't want them showing up all the time, but

I'm hoping at least shows up once The flash is

Barry back is What's like I thought the whole

point of having Barry go back into the speed

force was that the next season they were gonna

focus on Wally and Have Wally come into his own

as kid flash or whatever you want to call him

and yet this trailer kind of shows off Iris stepping

up in more ways than one and like short of her

putting on a speed suit She doesn't do that in

the trailer folks Legends looks fun legends always

looks fun Arrow Arrow is disappointing The first

minute and a half of that trailer is a recap

of the end of the events of season 5 And the

preview of the current season Tells you absolutely

nothing Like I don't want to be spoiled I don't

want them to tell me everything in a San Diego

comic -con exclusive trailer preview But tell

me something don't just give me a recap of the

last episode of the previous season One thing

I will say about arrow though, even though we

give all kinds of crap to the story and the writers

and all of that Stephen Amell is the best dude

ever. Yep. Have you seen this video? Yeah, I

watched that so Hopefully I'll I'll send Steve

the link Hopefully he'll embed it in the post

so people can see this at comic -con this past

weekend San Diego 2017 There was a panel with

Stephen Amell the chick that plays Felicity and

What's her name? Katie Cassidy. Yes, thank you.

Katie Cassidy. And a girl who has cancer asked

him a couple of questions. One of the questions

she asked, is he going to do another fight cancer

campaign and offer shirts? He said yes at some

point. And he started asking her questions about

does she always come? Is she going to come next

year? He stands up, he takes off this arrow necklace

that a friend of his made and said, OK, well,

if you're going to be here next year, I'm going

to give this to you. And one year from now, I'm

going to come back and get it back from you.

And he gives her a hug. I'm like, oh, my God.

It's like best dude ever. Love that guy. So,

yeah. That that was comic -con. Um, there are

other a couple of things that have come out of

comic -con I finally know what idw is doing with

the gem series. So that's kind of fun. Um What

else came out of comic -con a lot Okay, a lot

of panels a lot of yeah tv a lot of radio or

a lot of uh movie Yeah, there's movies and TVs

and even cartoon stuff because Phineas and Ferb

is gonna cross over into Milo Murphy's law Which

both series are created by Dan Pavan Meyer and

swampy marsh That's gonna be interesting I Like

Milo Murphy's law. It's a fun little series.

I like it because it's weird now. Yeah, I Figured

that's why you would like it if it wasn't weird

now. I probably wouldn't watch it Probably it's

not I mean, it's not that it's bad. I enjoy it

more than Phineas and Ferb, but yeah Not that

there's anything horrible about that. I just

I don't care for it But there is Rocco's modern

life I watched Rocco's modern Christmas this

past Christmas and I forget who I did that episode

of 25 days to cast beyond Christmas with but

I think I did that with Doug I I don't know what

it is about Rocco. I was past the point of getting

into that kind of cartoon series. I have nothing

against it. Yeah, I mean, I watched it off and

on as a kid, but it was more so because I was

waiting for something better to come on. Yeah.

And it was just on the TV at the time. So I just

I watched it. Yeah, that's cool. So yeah, I mean

overall comic -con had a lot of nice stuff But

Another funny thing that happened at At comic

-con Harrison Ford was at the Blade Runner 2049

panel. Yeah And a fan asked him whether the actor

planned to reboot every single franchise that

he's ever starred in Including the movies. He's

already getting follow -ups like Star Wars, Indiana

Jones, and Blade Runner. Ford had an answer and

he says, you bet your beep. He grunted during

the SDCC panel. So that's cool. Yeah. I don't

know what other films he would have that you

could even revive. Yeah, but. Again, I still

plan on watching the first Blade Runner before

the second one Just so I understand what's going

on yeah, absolutely because I'm intrigued by

the By what's going on in it yeah, so Then of

course Getting into some just miscellaneous news

stuff from SDCC. Feige explains Captain Marvel's

setting, which is set in the 1990s. Yep. I don't

know if you caught that, but... Yeah, I did.

So that'll be interesting, showing a hero that's

a hero before anybody else, basically. Before

Tony and whatnot. Then the scroll they managed

to get the rights to Yes, which is interesting

because then you could have shape -shifting superheroes,

so But they're gonna have all these characters

obviously in Infinity War and there's gonna be

a lot of character death in the film Because

obviously they have to kind of clean the palette

for the following yeah the following phase yeah

I at this point for me when it comes to Marvel's

cinematic stuff I just want to see it I mean

like I said at the beginning of the show neither

one of us really care that much about Thor 1

or 2 but the rest of the movies pretty much in

the Marvel Cinematic Universe I like I like some

more than others. I still have yet to see Ant

-Man or Doctor Strange or any of that stuff yet.

I'll see them eventually. Both of those are really

good. I'm sure they are. I just... I just don't...

Don't have time to, you know... I have all the

time in the world but at the same time I have

no time in the world because it's one of those

things where it's like I'm prepping for, you

know... three months of a video game cartoon

podcast or, you know, the next monthly spotlight

for the pull bag or what I'm, you know, and right

now Ant -Man and Doctor Strange are just, they're

on my radar, but they're like very, very small

blips. I will say if you're gonna watch one or

the other, it doesn't really matter which one

you start with, but it'll be. fun either way.

I've watched them both, they're both pretty decent.

I almost like Doctor Strange more, but that's

just because it's more mythological and less,

I don't know. But they're also saying that Captain

Marvel will not be in Infinity War. At least

the first film and the the individual Captain

Marvel movie will have Sam Jackson's Nick Fury

in it But with both eyeballs Whoo? Well isn't

isn't that because it's a prequel yeah, it takes

place in the 1990s But I'm wondering if that's

why he's missing an eyes during this legendary

scrawl Battle that's gonna happen. Yeah, so I'm

wondering if either he pulls his own eye or you

know, his eyes Damaged or something and that's

why Yeah ends up in that boat Yeah, that's true.

I'm not sure It'd be interesting yep, so anything

else you want to bring up That you noticed from

Comic Con? I mean, I don't know. I think there

were toys, too, that were showing up. There were.

I saw, like, the Goodfellas. Saw those. I saw

Pinky and the Brain. I saw all the Pop Funko

vinyl stuff, but I'll talk about that later on

a different show. I get more of them eventually

because right now I only have four. I'm trying

to think of a comic con. I'll say this, every

friend that I have that's online that went to

the convention was praising them on how well

the registration stuff was this year. Like, people

were in and out, bing bam boom, and usually in

years past... Most conventions are like this,

but I mean you all look at it folks San Diego

Comic Con is the biggest convention in the United

States and Normally, it's a nightmare to do with

you know registration and yada yada yada signing

in and all that and Everyone I saw talking about

it this year seemed to say that it went fairly

well It's been the best that it's been since

you know Since whenever so that's good. Hopefully

they keep that up. Um I'm ready for a new TV

season Me too. I mean for all my shows to come

back between the CW content Gotham I believe

last man got picked up at Fox CMT okay See here's

the thing like And I've said this before on the

show. I pay for Netflix and Hulu. Hulu has next

day episodes, okay? So I don't mind missing a

Monday night show if I can watch it Tuesday morning

on Hulu. All right, I do that with the wrestling

stuff for Mayhem Mike's podcast and all that

stuff. But here's the thing, in the summertime,

and I know Hulu has other shows, I just, I have

to be in the right mindset. And half of the time

this summer, I've been working on getting podcasts,

you know, backlogged and things like that, or

getting them. You know produced for the next

day or things like that, so I don't always watch

every single thing That's on Hulu. I don't always

watch every single movie Etc. Etc. Etc. Unless

I'm doing it for a podcast like I'm about to

at some point in the next couple of weeks I'm

about to watch all six original Star Trek films

Yeah for the first time so for the first time

Pretty much. I'll be awesome to pick your brain.

Yeah, I I've seen the TV version of Khan and

You know where it's broken up because of the

commercials and all of that I've seen bits and

pieces of Spock I've seen bits and pieces of

an undiscovered cut undiscovered country I think

I've seen one scene from motion picture like

I have not see It was all before I was a TNG

baby. I mean I was seven years old when TNG came

out So, and when we do the TNG movie episode,

First Contact was the first Star Trek movie I

ever saw in theaters. Wow, first one I ever saw

in theater? You know what? Generations. Yeah.

It's still a TNG movie. It is, yeah. An original

series movie, so I got the best of both worlds.

I was running around saying the galaxy when your

grandfather was still in diapers. Seems to me

they stole that line from Scotty. But he was

telling that to Mr. LaForge. I was still out

saving the galaxy when your grandfather was in

Dietapers. It was true. Yeah, very true. I'm

trying to think what else came out of Comic -Con.

The the Stargate trailer looks cool I Don't know

what else I Guess we could bring up the fact

that Supposedly MS paint is dying and then supposedly

it's gonna regenerate like Doctor Who does Which

I think it already has I think it's now called

paint 3d, but I could be wrong. No, it's well

I don't know what it's called, but It's um it

was MS paint for like the longest time yeah So

I don't know I Still use it, but yeah, they can't

take it away from me I didn't update windows

so yeah suck at Microsoft And I don't plan on

ever updating it either. Ooh ha ha. Yup. Um.

But yeah, I mean, I'm... I don't know. I'm kind

of burnt out on San Diego. I mean, I'm really

burnt out on it as well. I just, I don't... Yeah?

I don't follow a lot of it. Let's see. I want

to follow a lot of it because I want to be able

to post to our fan the GCR and fan page to the

twig fan page to my fan to be able to get in

case anyone hasn't You know, it's like somebody

will tag me in something on Facebook that I've

posted like 39 minutes before that and I'm like

do you not seriously see that I've posted this

39 minutes ago and things like that and whatever

else and whatever, but like Yeah, so and plus

for the last the last two nights Monday night

and no Sunday night into Monday and then Monday

night into Tuesday I've been up till 3 a .m.

The next day the last two days podcasting so

Yeah, he's a machine I am a machine That's right

The bad thing was the last recording I did and

I'm gonna blame you for this You told me about

the off switch on the mp3 call recorder, which

you should never should have did because Sometimes

it ends up staying off. I recorded 45 minutes

take one of the origin HTTF origins with Heather

and 45 minutes no nothing not even the outtakes

we did so we had to restart the whole damn thing

That's I know But we got it done. I got it edited.

It's online and all that so I just gotta get

the the post posted on the website so So yeah

Yeah It really sucks. I know, right? And you

know this, and I'll tell the audience this. For

all things Transformers, folks, when we do the

Transformers origins of guests and things like

that, we have 21 questions that we ask them.

Right before question 14, which is the comics,

which Transformers comic iteration is your favorite?

Well, Heather is a die -hard Transformers IDW

fan. And I knew that answer was going to be a

long answer my weird Spidey sense tinglers or

whatever? Kicked in and like I need to check

this and see if it's oh Crap did you get in 13

out of the 21? It was over halfway So Heather,

Amy and I, who do the Transformers Windblade

stuff together, we're called Team Angel because

they think of me as Charlie from Charlie's Angels

and they're the three angels. Nicole and Amy

always interrupt me right before I'm getting

ready to start. And part of the outtakes... That

are no law that are nowhere anymore at all because

I wasn't recording them that Heather and I did

I said It's she said it's gonna be weird being

just her and I because it's usually the four

of us doing stuff this was the first time she

and I had done something solo for a podcast and

Said yeah, but it's gonna be kind of nice not

having the interrupting cows around. She's like

interrupting cows I'm like yeah every time I

go to start a show Amy or Nicole will say something

else and we'll end up going another 45 minutes

before starting the show so interrupting cow

You know I did that to my wife earlier Except

I did it the first time we were sitting at the

kitchen table, and I don't remember what prompted

it It might have been in I don't know. It may

not have been even been at the kitchen table,

but Regardless, I didn't interrupting cow moo

and then The next time she spoke Ian did it And

I was like, oh what did I just do She just gives

me this look like I'm gonna beat you oh You'd

enjoy it stop um that's crazy though yeah hey

i guess imitation is the greatest form of flattery

especially you know kids imitating their parents

right oh yeah interrupting cow moo oh god it's

hilarious um The other thing that came out and

I don't mean to bring the show down but this

kind of goes back into our Lincoln Park episode

discussion in 199 There was an article that the

LA Times put out about the proper way to report

on suicides One of the biggest things they said

don't give the the the cause of the suicide and

don't say they committed suicide because it's

not a crime. It's supposed to be called death

by suicide is the more sensitive way to say it

because there's a lot of people out and you know

we don't know this thing and these things ahead

of time but I thought it was a really really

interesting article and that came out after lead

singer Chester Bennington suffered death by suicide

so So there's that I wonder what the hell the

rest of this year is gonna come up with because

I mean San Diego it kind of felt like there was

a lot there but at the same time there wasn't

a lot like I wasn't seeing the internet explode

this weekend Like all the news got reported in

like a really like professional way, like nobody

was trying to one up anybody or nobody was trying

to get exclusive this or exclusive that, whatever.

I mean, I guess I can kind of see your your point

there. I didn't really notice all that much of

people just kind of. Trying to get the upper

hand in the news, so yeah. Yeah. Absolutely and

like I said I could sleep all the way till next

year San Diego and still be Overwhelmed I Think

it was because they didn't have Deadpool 2 When's

that supposed to come out next year Well, maybe

they're gonna do it at New York Comic Con who

knows I don't know Not sure I'm gonna surprise

that Fox didn't have any superhero stuff. Yeah.

So I finally, after weeks and weeks and weeks

of torture, I finally finished Marvel's Iron

Fist. You watched it? Yeah. I like certain parts

of it. I just don't like the pace that the show

is set at, because I would watch like 20 or I

would watch about 20 minutes of an episode and

then I would watch 10 minutes of an episode and

five minutes I would end up watching episodes

like ten five and ten minutes at a time So it

took me about almost a month and a half to finish

13 episodes on Netflix Whereas daredevil season

one and two Jessica Jones season one and Luke

Cage season one. I finished all within a week

So when I started watching daredevil, I might

have finished that within three days when I started

watching daredevil season two Maybe five days

Luke Cage I think I finished within two and a

half days and Jessica Jones I finished within

four days and iron fist It took me almost three

weeks to watch all 13 episodes that like I said,

I like it. I think it's a good show I don't know

how the heck the show got a second season, but

um, you know it did I'm really looking forward

to defenders. I Just Really looking forward to

that. So that's coming up in August. So can't

wait for that The other thing that came out at

comic -con I'm pretty sure you know this but

they released projects for DC animated films

2019 so Batman and Harley is this year Batman

Gotham by Gaslight is going to be adapted. Suicide

Squad Hell to Pay is coming in the spring of

next year. And then Death of Superman, along

with Reign of the Supermen. In late 2018, the

first part of an adaptation of the Death of Superman

storyline will be released. The second part,

titled Reign of the Supermen, will be released

in early 2019. The storyline was previously adapted

in highly condensed and altered form as Superman

Doomsday. So they're going to do a proper Death

of Superman story now. Do it right the first

time. You know where I got that clip, right?

Yup. To infinity and beyond! Beyond where? Let's

do this, let's do this right the first time.

I miss Mike and Laura. I just thought it was

funny. Trick reference actually works. Yep, absolutely

So Yeah, I think that's that's about it for San

Diego Yeah, I just I at this point can't wait

for fall TV to come back Yeah, because I think

that We're gonna be in for a fun ride and then

I'm of course looking forward to the shows that

we Nothing about yet. Yeah Because I'm sure there'll

be more that we haven't heard of oh Absolutely,

they're gonna do like a midseason show kind of

thing and whatever else. So yeah They always

do Yelp, so anything else you want to bring up?

Nope, that's about it Alrighty, so until next

time on episode 200, get altered, get geeky with

the Altered Geeks and be sure to check out the
