Powers as you heard in that special prolonged

introduction Art Danner is here Arrrr Sounding

better than ever. Oh Yeah, crystal clear bitches,

and we have Sean Z Brown So, you know what I'm

curious Have we ever had the conversation where

the name Sean Z Brown came from? Because it's

not even like, I mean, obviously, Sean Z Sean

is your name, but where did the Brown come from?

Well, how did I get that name? Yeah, isn't always

constantly rolling around in his own feces. I

left that open. Oh, it's an old work nickname.

We said this girl who got her hair cut and she

looked just like Lucy from You know peanuts comic

so I started calling Lucy. She called start calling

me Sean the brown Pulling thing out from underneath

you and have you like flip over hit your head

just a self -esteem. Oh That's not very nice.

Nope never am can't keep a good Sean down Unless

we're talking about Sean Z Brown then we're always

keeping him down So just like a couple episodes

ago when we were super lazy Because I well I

was super lazy because I just want to play my

PlayStation 4 Didn't release an episode last

week due to time constraints or no Two weeks

ago is when I should have released it But now

you all listen to 38 and to get everything caught

up and so everyone's on the right page We're

just gonna do 39 and 40 at the same time And

then I'm gonna sacrifice my Wednesday nights

to edit the podcast and get it out on Thursdays

for you people So I just think it's hilarious

that the fact that the week of PlayStation 4

release we can't be bothered to do it a podcast

but the week of Thanksgiving of Course, we'll

sit down and do one. We're like, ah, dude video

game release can't can't do this P .S. Thanksgiving

holiday. We're like, yeah, let's record. It's

good. Oh, we didn't do one on Thanksgiving the

Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We did the no

we did one the Wednesday after So we've actually

been absent for about two weeks Yeah Yep, so

we're just trying to get I'm trying to get everything

caught out so that now when we record an episode

It's timely and then your comments and feedback

and everything that all matters instead of just

going right in the trash can The lack of recording

explains why I've gotten to play and finish so

many video games lately. Yes, because you do

all of your video gaming on Wednesday nights

between 8 to 9 p .m. 8 to 10, it's just a blur.

It's a blur of random. He's just cycling through

the controller. He's got them all on his coffee

table, like the PS3 and the... PS3, PS4, and

the Vita are all sitting there on the table,

and he's just like, input one, input two, Vita,

input one, input two, Vita. Please, coffee table,

he's a pro. He has his legs up, and he has a

controller on each thigh, and then the third

one's in his hand. You said thigh. That's where

the dark meat is. So, what has everyone been

up to the last week? Dan, you have been finishing

games left and right. Yeah. I've been knocking

it out. The one I'm interested to hear about

or at least have a conversation with you about

is Gone Home. OK. As we all know, I gushed about

it earlier this year. And I know we had a conversation

via text about it, but I thought maybe we could

talk about it a little more in depth. One of

the things I asked you was, did I? In your opinion,

there's two questions I have for you. One is,

did I over or under hype the game for you? And

the second thing is, you picked it up on a Steam

sale for five bucks. Yes. Now, having played

it and finished it, would you have paid the 20

bucks for it? Would you have felt cheaped paying

the 20 bucks for it? I'm kind of a cheapskate,

so probably 20 bucks I think is a little much.

10, 12, anything below 12, I think I would have

been very satisfied with having spent it, but

20? I mean, it's literally a number one. Set

aside two hours and play it all the way through.

I will say you you you will get way more out

of it if you just do it in one sitting And it's

just Like okay Because it's an indie developer

and after playing it and enjoying it as much

as I did. Yes I probably would have been okay

with playing 20 bucks Okay, if it was EA or Ubisoft

or a major corporation, I would've been pissed

with paying 20 bucks. Because as an indie developer,

I would've been okay with it. Yeah, I think if

it had been a full -on AAA team that made a two,

three, four -hour game, and that was it, and

they slapped 20 bucks on it, I think I would've

been irritated as well. But when you sit back

and you realize Fulbright, I think is somewhere

between four and eight employees working out

of their house. Yeah. Yeah, I yeah, I totally

understand what you're saying So I just Did I

did I did I over or underhype the game for you?

I know you said I like kind of tipped it a little

bit, but I Think it was a pretty even keel I

don't think you you Undersold it or oversold

it. I think you were pretty spot -on with what

you said The I think the one thing I asked you

is if it was scary Spooky. Mm -hmm. And you said

the ambiances. Yes, which I kept think I don't

know if it's speaks to me as a the person I am

or the gamer I am but I Just felt like something

horrible was going to happen the entire time.

We're playing this game No, that's not user that

I felt that too. So the the environment And the

sound just convey a sense of dread, just like

it's building towards something terrible. You're

just waiting for something bad to happen. I can't

tell you how many times I'm just expecting a,

like a flash of somebody to be behind you, just

to turn, just to mess with you. Or I kept, I

don't like this when we talked about it. I just

kept expecting, um, to go up into the attic and

see somebody hanging from, from the rapture or

something. I was just like, mentally I was in

this mindset that this has to be building towards

something just horrific. Yeah, well keep in mind

the game is made by X I think it's I know it's

X 2k Marin guys, and I think some of them came

from a rational, too I think it's like a 50 -50

split and they're guys that worked on the Bioshock

games So the entire time I was playing it I was

expecting you to get that classic Bioshock scare

that we've talked about many times in this podcast

where you're Investigating something and you

turn around and something is right in your face.

I was expecting that a lot like Almost every

time I walked into a new room, I was very wary

about how much time I was spending looking at

any one thing. It's like I haven't looked around

in the last five minutes. I'm going to do it

slowly. I'm going to clear this room, and then

I'll investigate something. But hold on. I'm

not going to look at this note for very long

before I check my corners again, and then I'll

go back and go back to rummaging through a desk

or something like that. Because I did when I

was playing it. was constantly thinking something

was just around the corner or something like

that and they do they do it really well with

the sound design because they put you in this

house and um I guess we can kind of talk about

a little more a little more now because it's

a little older and anyone that hasn't had a chance

to play it yet you need to find a way to play

it but without spoiling it like you come you

play a character that has come home from like

a year -long vacation You've been in Europe for

essentially a year. Right, and you come home

and your family has moved into a new house, so

when you come home... It's a house you've never

been in before. Right, which works out great

because you as the player has never been in the

house either. So the house has all these unique,

you know, house sounds that houses make, like,

you know, creaking floors, the furnace and stuff

like that, and... It's just, it's a giant old...

house. It's everything that you hear or experience

in the house. The moment you get the backstory

of how old this house is, the ambiance makes

total sense because of how creaky the floors

are and just shit you hear off in the distance

at some points of the game, which will creep

you out. Now, I know you and both our friend

Andy Played it with headphones on I did not get

the luxury of doing that because at the time

I was playing it I had three kids tearing around

the house like it's the apocalypse So I didn't

get the opportunity to to play with the headphones

on but I played it with my speakers cranked on

my MacBook and it sounded fucking fantastic That's

just how good the sound is I mean if you you

get the opportunity to play with headphones totally

recommend playing with the headphones wasn't

an option for me at the time, but I got the,

uh, just as much of the creepiness without using

the headphones. Um, the, uh, the other things

that add to the creepiness, cause you, when you're

playing the game, you learn things about the

house and all this stuff kind of happens. And

that'd be the very beginning. So hopefully isn't

anything shocking, but it turns out the house

is actually a relative's house and uncle. Who

there's He wasn't all together and kind of went

crazy and killed a bunch of people You know as

uncles do as uncles do Was he a great uncle or

he was a regular uncle? He would have been I

think the character is great uncle, but it would

have been You know it might have been me. I think

I I kind of took it like a completely different

way as far as the uncle going mad I felt like

it was um little bit of child abuse yeah that's

what I thought it was I was like I don't think

I uncovered as much as the uncle stories you

did or Andy did because I only unlocked one of

the safe lock things in the entire game somehow

I missed everything else well that might be why

it only took you two hours to get through the

game yeah um which is very unlike you Know cuz

usually I'm incredibly thorough. But for some

reason I just cannot find anything with Combos

on it with the exception of the locker and the

sisters room, which I think you have to find

Because you that unlocks another portion of the

house, right? I think the other like I never

got into the I Never got into the cabinet in

the dad's writing room and I never got into the

safe in the basement They did the safe in the

basement. I don't remember the cabinet. There's

a cabinet with a dial on it that's locked up

in the dad's writing room. I don't know if I've

ever been in there. Huh. And I never found a

code for either of those. I did do the one in

the basement, and I think that's where you...

It's really when you get into the basement of

the house. That's the one that tells you... Because

Andy told me about that one. He said that reveals

a lot about the relationship between your father...

And the uncle. And basically sets it up for the

uncle was essentially molesting your father.

Right, yep. That's how I took that. Yeah, no,

the whole, everything in the game is very like...

Messed up. Well, personal. Incredibly personal.

That's the one thing that I think about. That's

the one thing that I really enjoyed about the

game is the fact that this could be any family.

This this is not. Well, I mean, not everybody

has psycho uncles. I'm just saying that it's

OK, but if you remove that, like I'll say like

the family on the surface, it's very much like

anyone's family, like anyone's immediate family,

like the deeper, the deeper stuff like like the

like the part with the uncle. Yeah, that might

not be everyone's family, but like the on the

on the surface, like just the immediate family.

That's like. I've felt some of that stuff because

a lot of it is you start seeing what her little

sister went through the last year and all the

changes that she went through. Even though it's

from a girl's point of view, anyone that's been

through middle school or high school and has

felt at all awkward about anything can totally

relate to the story in this game. Yeah, and I

mean, it's following the story, you know, essentially

of your sister and piecing together the last

year of everything that's happened in everybody

in your family's lives. And just seeing the struggle

and most of the main story is essentially what's

happened to your sister. Essentially, it's kind

of why is nobody at the house? What the hell's

going on? And then the main focal the main focal

point is, you know, your sister and what's happened

to her and It's interesting to see how the story

progresses because it's just this narrative that's

slowly unfolding and giving you more and more

info throughout it. The narrative is just so

well done and the story unfolds in just such

a natural way that it's really easy to get caught

up with. with what's going on with these characters

and The way they lead you around the house is

awesome, too Would you find the porno underneath

your dad's bags? That was awesome Just the or

the journal entry of your sister's where she

starts talking about making out Yes, and then

she goes I'm not finishing this. Yeah, that's

That that's really that that was one the entire

time we're talking like I was I was gonna I was

gonna waiting to bring up that that was probably

my One of my favorite moments in the game and

that made me and it was in the creepiest part

of the house, too Yep, and I was just like it

made me laugh out loud. That was was like Can

we say what an awesome house that is though?

It is I fucking live in that house. That's an

awesome Sean Z if it ever there's they the Fulbright

guys were on the one of the recent episodes of

rebel FM And they've talked about they're looking

into porting it to other systems So if it ever

comes to something like that, I highly recommend

playing it. Okay, maybe So I mean we haven't

really spoiled anything other than the fact that

it's just a really really good game And on the

awesome VGX Awards, it was the indie game of

the year Yeah, there were a lot of people that

were mad about that About the fact that they

won the indie game of the year about the fact

that the VGX's were fucking terrible both Okay,

I was like what they prefer to be the winner.

Yeah, what they just it's the same issue It's

it's like why does a four three four -hour game

get to be you know game of the year and again

again there are a lot of people that don't understand

like I Feel like I feel like you have to be a

person to understand going home I don't think

it's a game that most the dude bros don't get

dude bros won't get the madden guys and they

call it dude call something in the face we call

duty bros again like dude let's get people together

and we can like totally kill people and then

afterwards we could jump on madden work our destiny

modes and so so you're talking keanu reeves from

bill and ted okay i feel like i feel like if

you can play flower and appreciate it as a video

game or journey Yeah, journey's got more journey

has more video game mechanics in it than flower

does But any dude bro is gonna be bored 20 minutes

in the journey. Yeah true But I think so yeah,

I mean I was gonna I was gonna throw journey

in there too But a little more a little more

loosely cuz like it's I Don't know. I don't I

don't I've ever played a missed game Has it that

was one of the things that I want to say it didn't

remind me quite a bit of missed but like i don't

know i don't remember there's no puzzles i mean

do you can't reminded me of mist except for the

fact that i wasn't bored that's true but then

again i've never played him this is this is Mist

was one of those games when I was growing up

very young that I was like, oh yeah, mist and

I play mist. I'm like, this game is awesome.

And then I would do like the first two puzzles

on my own and be like, this is bullshit. And

then I would go online and then look up all the

how to do all the puzzles. And then I would fly

through the game and then he'd go play Doom because

he's a dude, bro. It was actually quick, but

whatever. I was more of a quick guy than I was.

Alright, so that's us recapping Gone Home. If

you haven't played it, find a way to play it.

Obviously, if it goes on sale again, of course,

I will tweet it out and I'll retweet it on the

Geek Gas Radio stuff. I was going to say, I thought

it was like, wasn't it just 10 bucks recently?

It was five when you bought it. It was five on

Black Friday, but then it was for Cyber. Monday,

no, it was 50 50 % off for all VGX games that

So it's probably over Well, cuz all the nominees

were like 50 % off on Steam. Well, there's that

You can always put it on your wishlist on Steam

and then they will send you an email the moment

It goes on sale when it's on your wishlist But

yeah, I highly highly recommend it obviously

Danner enjoyed it and I know a couple other people

that you know picked it up on my recommendation

that listened to this podcast they actually enjoyed

it too, so Let's see What else have you finished

Danner? I finished We'll start with the beginning

of my finishing things I finished Bioshock infinite

burial see part one Holy shit. Now is it like

one of those things where it just, it's the part

one, like we're having to wait for the next part

is just going to kill you. Pretty much. Um, and

I suspect that it's probably going to be March

or April before we get part two, which is going

to kill me even more. Um, it, I mean, essentially,

okay. You start off in Rapture, you're a PI in

Rapture and. Elizabeth shows up at your door

from Infinite and it becomes blatantly obvious

pretty shortly in that the Elizabeth that shows

up is the actual Elizabeth that you play along

with in Infinite. It's not some other reality,

Elizabeth. And there's just subtle things throughout

the game. You make you know comments to her and

then her response as he goes something is just

not fucking right here at all and Then the last

three minutes of the game happens and holy fuck.

Oh my god. Oh, oh my god. Um, I don't really

want to spoil it for people that aren't you know

haven't played it because just The shit hits

the fan and like the last three minutes of that

DLC and then it just stops and you're like what

the hell just happened It's kind of almost like

the epiphany moment at the end of infinite but

more so without a quarter of the explanation

you're just like, huh and Awesome at the exact

same time. So it was really cool. I mean if you

have the season pass and We're diligent and waited

and didn't get rid of your game because God it

took a long time for the DLC to come out It was

well worth the wait. I'm very, very interested

to see where they go. The entire game takes place

in essentially, you start in Rapture, but then

the majority, the bulk, the meat of the game

takes place in Fontaine Futuristics, which it

turns out that they, because what's his name?

Can't think of his name. Somebody help me out

here. I think you're the only one that finished

the game, aren't you? No, who played Bioshock?

Not me. Oh my god, you guys all suck. Wait, which

character? Andrew Ryan. Andrew Ryan got pissed

at Fontaine and it turns out that when Andrew

Ryan got pissed at Fontaine, he sunk Fontaine's

building in Rapture. So Fontaine's building Fontaine

Futuristics is kind of sitting at the bottom

of the ocean separated from Rapture and you're

the girl you're looking the girl you're looking

for has gone has been taken away from you and

has been turned into a little sister and is on

in Fontaine Futuristics so you go there to get

her and That's where all the splicers are And

Rapture is still in its heyday. So I'm interested

to see what's going to happen because something

has to happen in part two of the game in which

the Splicers somehow get to Rapture from Fontaine

Futuristics to God. Because if I recall, I want

to say this happens New Year's Eve. This is like

leads into what causes the fall of Rapture. So

this DLC actually links it everything together.

Well now okay, does it? It's not really a link

though because it's not really like really so

it's just it's just putting it's just saying

Yes, they all exist in the same universe, but

I I yeah, no, I'm sorry. I'm not trying to start

argument or anything I just it's it's it's weird

because there is no There's no singular continuity

present in Bioshock infinite It's all cyclical.

Right. I mean, that's what they made that infinite

that that infinitely obvious at the end of Bioshock

infinite was the fact that it's all cyclical.

All starts with the lighthouse. Doesn't matter

if you go up or down, it all starts with the

lighthouse. So I mean, it's. But to me, the way

they're making it look, though, is that this

issue with. between Elizabeth and Booker. Whatever

the fallout of this is essentially perpetuates

the entire storyline of Bioshock 1. So whatever

this issue is, is that they're resolving in this

DLC from the way that it's leading towards. It

makes it look like everything that comes from

this burial at Sea DLC actually causes the events

that make Bioshock 1 happen. Okay. That's cool.

In that universe. That's how I mean it's connected.

So far, Elizabeth is, well, there's other characters

involved which make it far more interesting,

but I don't really want to... The Lucite twins?

The Lucite twins do show up. Yay. Yay. fan favorites,

loose eyed twins. Um, so, uh, I'm assuming if

anybody has the game, they've played this already.

I know I was a little late to playing it because

this came out literally three days before the

PS4 came out. And I only had an hour to put into

it before the PS4 came out. And then I just kind

of was like, I need to play my PS4. Okay. And

then after two weeks of playing PS4, I was like,

okay, I need to go back and finish some stuff

because I need to get some stuff lined up for

the game of the year things and finish some stuff.

You know, I'm right there with you about going,

I'm, I'm, I need to go back and finish Arkham

Origins, but. Okay. That is not going to be in

your game of the year. No, it's not. Trust me.

Once you finish that game, you'd be like. Okay.

So it can't be any worse than the ending to City.

It can't be. No. I think it's a little bit better

than the ending to City. Okay. But... Well, that's

all we need to say about that. Yeah. I liked

Bioshock Infinite. I found Bioshock Infinite

easier to... Atmospherically... It's more of

an action game than it is a horror game. I was

going to say I found Infinite more atmospherically

playable than Bioshock. Does I think bio Bioshock

is a little more? Scary I think it's creepier

and I think it's just it lends to more I think

the Bioshock and Bioshock I wouldn't even say

Bioshock 2 Bioshock 1 is more has that Thriller

horror style right to it or Bioshock 2 Bioshock

2 isn't spooky to me because the fact that from

the beginning you're playing as a big daddy and

it's the same and then we've talked about this

before it's the same mentality as The Batman

game when you're playing a Batman game doesn't

matter the environment. I'm in a fucking Batman.

I don't know Batman I can't be scared Batman

what what's the worst thing I could come across

another bad? Exactly. It's in its Bioshock 2

is just like I'm a big daddy. It was fucking

worse than a Big Daddy. Well, I mean, it's built

up so much in Bioshock 1 of how terrible the

Big Daddies are that when you get in the Bioshock

2 and you start out as a Big Daddy, you're like,

fuck everybody else. Well, see, here's the thing.

And we can get back to the point that the question

I was trying to ask is... I am totally out of

wine. This is terrible. And you keep dropping

the F -bomb. If you could cut back on that just

a little bit. I'm trying to, but... It's colorful.

I understand. And it's really good. Trust me,

your enthusiasm for these games is coming across

in spades. I love how he coddles me with his

words. I feel like when we say like they're OK.

The reason I keep saying when I play a game like

when I play like the Arkham games, nothing really

bothers me or can scare me or anything like that.

I'm not worried about anything because I'm Batman.

In my head, the line, the movie line that always

runs through my head is the line that Qui -Gon

Jinn has in episode one, where he says there's

always a bigger fish. Yeah. I just, for some

reason, like the whole big daddy thing in Bioshock

2, I always, I feel like there's a bigger, is

there, I feel like they introduced a - Little

sisters are supposed to be a bigger fish, but

to be honest - They're not. Honest, when I'm

fighting for them at the exact same time in the

finale of the game, and I'm just wrecking house.

Constantly. I'm just like, yeah, okay. Yeah,

they move quicker, but I hate harder Okay, so

basically what I'm saying is my logic is there

is no bigger fish than Batman Correct. Did you

ever remember facing killer croc in the first

game? I Mean he was a bigger fish, but he's not

harder you still beat him But he's not the but

killer croc is by far not the world's greatest

detective. So there's a fool in that line. Okay

We got way off track here. Okay, where does burial

at sea fit into this? I don't think it's been

fully realized as to where it fits in with part

one yet. I meant play -wise. Is it atmospherically

similar to Bioshock or is it atmospherically

similar to Infinite? I know it takes place in

Rapture. It's atmospherically similar to Bioshock.

I was tempted to try and play. It's a little,

it's kind of hard to say because it's a hybrid

of both because you come across a skyhook, which

they don't call it skyhooks in there. They call

it water hooks. If I was going to play it, I'd

have to hook my 360 back up. Because you get

the skyhook, so there's some tracks in certain

things and a lot of the fighting mechanics are

very much infinite. But the atmosphere feels

way more Bioshock. So is it creepy? It's a little

creepy because everything's run down. Okay. Unlike

in Infinite, everything's falling apart around

your ears. And you're there like in it's that's

the thing about Infinite is the fact it's a populated

city and it is more like the end of Infinite.

Okay. All right. Where things have... How much

is the DLC by itself? I know you got the season

pass. I got the season pass, which was 20 bucks.

I want to say it's 10. You know, I looked it

up while you were talking about it. I'm pretty

sure it's 10 because the DLC pass includes the

trials, which... Haven't even played because

I'll admit I'll admit even while we were playing

Like when we when we're playing infinite and

you go Sorry, if you haven't played the game,

you should probably play it when you go when

you go back to Rapture for that brief moment

Yeah, that was like one of the most intriguing

parts of the game to me Like I honestly wanted

more of that and that sounds like what this might

be Well, you could play by a shock one or two

Stop it. I'm just saying You're starting to sound

like a woman with your logic. Oh, I'm always

very logical. So I will take that as a compliment.

Yeah. I've been told that I need to spend the

money and get Minerva's Den on Bioshock 2 because

everybody has pretty much told me that. You can

poo poo on Bioshock 2 all you want, but Minerva's

Den DLC is probably the best thing to happen

for that entire game. Well, isn't more of the

people that worked in Infinite worked on Minerva's

Den? That's the way I heard it when I read articles

and stuff, is that a lot of the people that did

the story and stuff for Infinite were the people

that did Minerva's Den, which weren't the people

that did 2. Which I need to play through Bioshock

2 on the PS3 since I have not done it. I own

it, but I picked it up for... The low, low price

of five bucks, and I have to actually play through

this. I played it on Xbox. It's 15. 15. Just

buy the season pass. 20 bucks for the season

pass, because if... Part one's 15. That means

part two is going to be 15. You get part one

and two for 15. You get part one and two because

this included in the season pass. No, no, no.

If you just buy those two episodes. No, it's

1499 just for episode one and it'll be 1499 for

episode two. So you're telling me I could buy

episode two, but not one. That makes no sense.

I didn't say what? Huh? If they're selling them

independently, why isn't it just you buy episode

one? Wait a minute when two comes out you get

it with it. That's weird. No sock infinite and

season pass bundle free I can't be right. Did

you buy the season pass and not remember? I don't

have I'm looking at the I'm looking at the PlayStation

store. I bought infinite on the 360 because it

was the lesser of two evils I bought it on the

ps3 because well, I just kind of You started

running the 360 at the end of that generation,

I don't know why. Right, at the end of the generation,

you started switching over the PS3. At the end

of the generation, I just wanted... It's all

your fault! I just wanted the games to look good.

I know, but the entire reason I even got a PS3

was completely your fault. I was a one system

guy that entire generation. Yeah, I wanted to

steal them away. I'm sorry. I had you get the

system so you could play infamous and uncharted

and complete. And then I started playing those

games. Oh, man, the exclusives are way better

on here. And people aren't dicks online. So there

is no one online. Those four guys are really

nice. Hey. They are just as douchey on the ps4

as they are in the 360 Yeah, that fear that fear

I had where if it's the cheapest one and everyone

has a headset Yep, they all came right on over

and they included a headset They all came right.

I done. Hey just because you're a faggot camper

just So what was it? Faggot whore can't forget

for a camper. Hey, at least we're not saying

the f -word. That was a gave her fucking faggot

whore Yeah, that's what it was. That's what I

was called. It's always a super racial or Sexual

orientation comment. I mean which Automatically

tells me that most of the people to make those

comments are closeted homosexuals that urge for

black men Every single one Mean if you're gonna

go you don't you go full bore. Yeah, I was gonna

say if you're gonna go gay You might as well

go for the biggest luxury model All right So

anyways um So if you're just tuning in So the

other thing I picked up was um I got getting

way ahead of myself because I'm super excited

for season two of Walking Dead. So what do I

do? I bought Wolf Among Us, the telltale fables

collaboration and played episode one of the Wolf

Among Us and super fun, really well done. Storytelling

is great. The graphics, great gameplay, great.

Awesome very very happy with it. It was well

worth spending the money Yeah, I'm tempted to

get this. I mean I did but the other one that

wasn't really my thing, but maybe this one It's

just as gory and bloody as the Walking Dead is

You need to play Walking Dead Chauncey. Yes,

you do. It's just you're missing out But no,

I was gonna say if you have a thing against that

at fables is great. I Amazingly enough usually

whenever I read the comics or something totally

I'm bored with something But this is gonna be

the reverse thing is I've never read fables before

And make sure to playing the first episode of

this. I am totally going and buying fables volume

one very very soon I've already looked into the

pricing for the Kindle edition. So I'll probably

picking up Some fables comics soon because it

is just incredibly enjoyable If you've never

played Fables before, and let's say maybe you've

watched the TV show once upon a time, and like

me, you've been constantly disappointed the entire

time you've been watching it because you feel

like it's just not quite missing. If that's the

case, then watch Grimm. Fables is that thing.

Then watch Grimm. Yeah, or watch Grimm. Fables

is a fairy tale based gritty New York drama.

type of a show The way I've heard it described

is it sin city with fairy tale creatures pretty

much. I would definitely say sin city with fairy

tale creatures it Surmises the whole thing very

very nicely wraps it in a nice little bow and

package but I found I found more enjoyment in

the three and a half hours I played Episode one

than I did in the first two and a half seasons

of once upon a time Because yeah So yeah, that

was so I played through that And then I also

finished Tearaway on the Vita Which if you own

a Vita by the game If you don't own a Vita and

you know a person who owns a Vita, borrow their

Vita so you can play the game. And if you just

don't own a Vita, this is a reason to buy a Vita.

And if you can't afford it, just steal it. And

if you can't afford it, just steal it. Oh, wait

a minute. Whoa. Hang on a second. That's a tall

order. Well, I don't endorse stealing anything.

No, no, no, no. I don't mean that. I don't mean

that. OK, so. Okay, so essentially you're telling

people... I'm saying that this is the definitive

title for the system. You're essentially saying

that you would have paid $250 for this game.

Yeah. Really? Yeah. I think this is a good enough

reason to buy the system. Okay. I'm... This is

as good of a system seller. No. Okay. Wait a

second. Let me preface that a little bit If you

like fun If you like warm feelings in your heart

if You're not completely dead inside You will

like this game. So it's not for you Mike. This

sounds like everything we just said about gone

home If you're a person, you'll like this game.

If you're a person, you'll like this game. If

you're a dude, bro, not going to like this game.

If you don't like things that are creative and

original, you won't like this game. If you pretty

much spend most of your time playing MLB and

Madden, you won't like this game. If you actually

sit down and watch NBA basketball, you probably

won't like this game because I'm sorry. NBA basketball

is scripted much like professional wrestling.

Okay, I'm just I'm just giving you I'm just giving

you some shit because I've played the The demo

and I enjoyed what I played. I'm just I'm just

giving you the same kind of shit I gave you for

no go for it. No, I don't I actually ready this

time No, I unlike to where I was just where I

just shut down and go Mike you're an asshole

And this is why we're friends No, I enjoyed it.

Although I sat down. I laid down in bed and I

decided to fire up the demo for it. And of course,

like you said, you are the sun. Yes. And so it's

really weird. It's like me while I'm laying in

bed. And that was just kind of awkward. Well,

it's really weird because every single time I

was playing it, I was either in bed or in the

bathroom, so it made it way more awkward for

me. There's something about seeing yourself in

the game. I'm not knocking the game for that

in any way, shape, or form. It's just one of

the things that I enjoyed the mechanics. Do you

ever get the ability to jump? Yes Okay. All right,

just checking. No, trust me. That was annoying

to me for a while, too That's the one thing that

I think is interesting about the game is the

fact that it introduced Constantly throughout

the entire game. It introduces a new mechanic

all the time and that's It did something that

other games don't do to me, which is the fact

that they You introduce a mechanic and you kind

of use it through the level and then they kind

of put the mechanic aside It's still there and

it'll be utilized but it's not as heavily relied

on and they introduce a new mechanic they're

us introducing new mechanics to the last level

of the game and Then the game ends and it's it's

weird is the fact that like literally constantly

introducing new elements, and they're not using

it long enough to where it gets old, and they're

not being really cliché about things, and they're

literally using every aspect of the Vita by the

end of the game. They're using the cameras, they're

using the back touchscreen, they're using the

tilt controls, they're using everything. The

only and they're using the front touch screen

I mean they literally utilize every single aspect

of the entire vita in the game by the end of

it Which I think is feel amazing and it doesn't

feel weird. It doesn't feel unnatural It doesn't

feel stupid. It doesn't feel forced It's not

like hey, we get we have all this stuff. We got

to use all of it Yeah, and the inclusion of the

paper crafting thing like I mentioned last episode

as it's just Neat it's just fun. It's just has

this Childlike whimsy to it that you just don't

get in games and I just I Have far more respect

for Media Molecule after this game Than I did

before which is weird because a little big planet

games are great, but they're not like must buys

to me They're like when I get something 20 bucks.

I'll get it This, to me, raised them to a whole

different level, in my opinion. And I'm not saying

that this is going to be a game for everybody.

I'm not saying that I think the majority of our

listeners, I think if you own a Vita, this is

a game you would enjoy, because, I mean, if you've

stuck with us this long, then you probably are

somewhat in line with the taste that we have.

This is a game you'll - And we're really sorry

to hear that. Hey. I find we have... Well, me

and Mike have good tasting games. I don't know

if I need a shot. Fucking Saints Row 4. So, I

just... It's... It's just... It feels like a

warm hug. That's the only way I can describe

this game. It feels like a hug. It feels like

a really nice warm hug. It feels natural and

fun. And it uses the Vita in a non -cliché good...

nice way. It is just worth every penny I spent

on it. Which was three thousand nine hundred

and ninety nine. Thirty four ninety nine. Oh,

three thousand four hundred ninety nine. Because

when you buy when you buy the digital bundle

on PlayStation Network, you get the game, you

get the soundtrack, you get the characters for

LittleBigPlanet2 and you get the characters for

LittleBigPlanet PSP from the game. Hmm. I'll

have to look into that. You've sold me on it.

I'm not entirely sure why I'm not... Well, my

Vita's not right in front of me. Otherwise, I'd

probably be downloading it right now. All right.

Since Seanzy has to take off in about 40 minutes,

not that we'll go that long. I know you have

a lot more you want to share, Danner, but I thought

we'd give someone else a chance to talk. Well,

I think that was pretty much actually all I had.

Mine's not going to be very long anyways. All

right. Well, I have stuff we can talk about.

Just like your penis. I have stuff we can talk

about. Your wife hasn't had an issue with it.

After Shonze goes, so. What have you been up

to, Shonze? Well, I've been playing a lot more.

I've been putting a lot more time to Assassin's

Creed. Well, you've got nothing else to do because

you're not playing with us. I can't play with

you guys because you guys abandoned me. Well,

I have to ask you the question if you've been

playing a lot more Assassin's Creed I've been

doing that as well, but I've had to back off

because I got to finish some ps3 stuff Does this

like to you because in my opinion Like it completely

makes up for the entire terrible fucking taste

in my mouth that Assassin's 3 gave me This game

makes me feel like like I'm just going like now

we were just kidding guys. This is really the

next one It's like an hour and a half into this

game that game it just clips like the pacing

is so well and the pirate ship stuff is so good

and it just is It went back to what Assassin's

2 was to me where nothing felt like a labor.

Yeah Everything feels more natural the flows

better It doesn't feel like I'm just kind of

like, OK, let's get to the next story mission.

It just. Feel it flows nicer and just feels better

all around an assassin. Oh, yeah, totally. Except

for the fact that Kenway is the clumsiest. He's

a little clumsy to control. See, I don't know

if they did that on purpose. Yeah, I'm not sure

if that's intentional or not I need to I think

I might need to take this from Ali before she

finishes it because she started reading books

instead of playing games recently So it might

be a while. Yes, I I think I might just need

to take her from her and actually play it I'll

give you a piece of advice because you're the

first hour and a half before you start to judge

it Yeah, well, okay because the beginning starts

slow just like any assassin's that's that's fine

but what I what I what I was getting at is I

feel like I Will admit Assassin's Creed 3 was

not a great game. And I've talked on this podcast

before about the only way I was actually able

to get through Assassin's Creed 3 is I had to

find my own fun, which was attacking the squads,

like killing the drummer for the squads and just

chasing down. I don't know, Ellie recording you

being drunk and chasing down rabbits was hilarious.

I was getting that. I was getting that. The whole

like just running around the woods, tackling

and murdering animals and like having like thirty

thousand dollars in pelts on me. At any given

time that was like it took that kind of Me making

the game fun for myself to actually like invest

any time in Finishing the game and as anyone

that actually knows is that my biggest issue

with any Assassin's Creed game is the fact that

it exists inside the animus But from what we

talked about on episode 38 you guys talking about

how you guys get lost in The side mission stuff

like the stuff having to do with the boat and

stuff like that. It sounds like the The side

stuff is more interesting than the actual little

more compelling than the actual game and you

likened it to Assassin's Creed 2 Danner is that

is that kind of like the the Villa was or the

Yeah, because you don't mind because you spent

all that time putting money into the villa and

building that up. It's the same with the ship.

I almost spend more. I did the same thing in

Assassin's 2 where I spent more money building

up the villa than I did building up myself. Yeah.

And that's exactly what I've done in this game

is I spent all all my money and all my resources

go towards my ship because I was like, eh. I'm

a good enough gamer that I can fake it through

the rest of the crap and the fighting and the

gun play and stuff like that without needing

to upgrade that stuff. My main concern is getting

my ship to be burly and manly and just destroy

people. So, and I mean, to me, I just got to

the new element of where I can start capturing

ships and Bringing them into my so good, which

I'm just like I spent so much time on the high

seas just capturing and going after people and

now it Finally just like the element that I can

start getting other ships and I've already spent

like four Four to five hours just doing that

beforehand Just going after people at sea because

I was enjoying it so much now. Now I just gives

you another reason Yeah, and now it gives me

another reason where I can be like well There's

a level four or five over here, which I'm going

to sink to the bottom of the ocean completely

because they're useless for my my guys. But these

level 23 ships, I'm totally taking these for

my own. So it's just like picking and choosing

like. Yeah, I need some cloth or I need some

sugar. Yeah, that's fine and well But man, I

want that shit from for my fleet. I mean it adds

new elements to why you go after people Okay,

so this is all this is great and all and it what

you guys are saying is making me interested in

actually playing the game but like is the You

guys seem to be more invested in like the side

stuff rather rather than the main The story is

good. The story is far more compelling than everything

that happened in Assassin's 3. Kenway is a way

better character than Connor was. Oh yeah, not

even, no question. That dude has more personality

in his left finger than Connor had in his entire

body. I didn't mind Connor, because like I said,

I just ran around tackling animals and murdering

drummers. I don't know if it's just because I

don't find Indians funny, or... I don't know.

Connor... Native Americans dick. I'm sorry. I

was talking about the Cleveland Indians. I apologize.

Let me specify Native Native Americans are fucking

boring unless we're talking about prey Have you

gotten to the part where you unlocked that pirate

island place I've gotten to the point where you've

attacked the Templar and taken over his Port

essentially. I'm taking that. Oh, yeah. That's

your like pirate island thing. Yeah. Yeah. This

island is kind of like I don't have enough money

to build my whorehouse I'm so disappointed. I

built everything else. This is it's just like

the villa you build up the shops that are there

you make No, the thing is is that it actually

does stuff building that whorehouse makes it

so if you go to any whores in the in the rest

of the game Instead of having to pay the money

you just use them Well, yeah, the drug it wipes

out the cost. Yeah, the drunken pirates are free

to me also now. Yes, um The drunken pirates.

It's basically what do they call them? They call

them mercenaries in the last couple games. We're

just a squad of four do drunk pirates now. Yeah

The best part is is you can you you can Get like

one group of people at a time But if any guys

are in open contact with you anywhere near them,

even if you haven't hired them, they'll come

and join the fight All right, so I like getting

guys mad at me and then running past those guys

So cuz they'll just jump on them last tipping

point here What how many times have you been

out of the animus since you've been played since

you've twice? Three times in how many hours?

Ish you believe that in the entire maybe one

and a half or two I was gonna say in the entirety

of the game. You have to leave the animus only

five times. Yeah I mean there is stuff to do

if you want and it's actually interesting to

me Because you're a first person you've never

seen your own face you don't do anything you're

just a hob essentially and The things that have

happened outside of the animus are actually the

first interaction complete bullshit the second

one fantastic well, I just Because we've said

before the one I I have never cared for the animus

stuff like I've always found the story like in

in the animus like the more interesting thing

like you know who you play as like at CEO and

To a lesser degree Connor and stuff like that.

I always find that more interesting as we Again,

I keep saying this we said before I always felt

like the animus was a The animus was invented

because of hardware limitations On the last gen

as a way to get around like loading screens and

all this other stuff I think it was more so built

as a I think it's more of a story arc device

as anything else But I I've just never cared

for it So I'm always I'm the guy that when you

have a chance to to go explore get back in the

animus I just want to get back in the animus

and that's one of the things I really hated about

Assassin's Creed 3 which is they gave you the

ability to get right back in the animus But eventually

at the end of the game They made you do all the

stuff you were supposed to do outside the animus

which really irritated me well In this game,

you're not expl - when you're out of the animatron

and exploring, you're not having to figure out

puzzles, you know, you're not doing nothing.

There's no sense of danger, you can't die as

far as I've - Well, there's kinda - there's kinda

puzzles. Well, there's not there were you you're

hacking into like your fellow co -workers everyone

puzzles aren't that hard Yeah, and it's just

it's like a simple like met like metagame is

like one of those basically like a like a quick

game of Frogger kind of a thing where you just

you have to give me you know move your little

thought to the other side of the screen or It'll

be you have to you have a number And you have

like three or four sets and those numbers have

to multiply out to equal that one and you create

a waveform and eat the list and stuff and you

unlock whatever information is on their computer.

Like the very first one that I unlocked was it

was showing a video of a team of guys working

for Abstergo recovering Desmond's body. And harvesting.

Because throughout this game you're working on

the Subject 17 project. And the reason your team

or sample 17, I'm sorry. The reason you're able

to go into these memories is because you have

Desmond's DNA. Everything is powered. Yeah. Yes.

Yeah. I mean, you don't have to go through any

of that stuff, but I find some of it's really

interesting. Like right now I've been listening

to these audio logs of them talking about subject

zero. First person to ever go into the ever to

use an animus isn't that the guy that was in

Assassin's Creed 2? No, that's subject 16 the

guy was right before okay But like this is before

they were aware that being in it for too long

might cause damage to you Yeah It was like there

was a part I'm not gonna say what they were talking

about But it's like oh, oh, how long has he been

in? Oh, he's been in for and then all of a sudden

just hear this guy just screaming It's like oh

geez get him out get him out See it's really

messed up, but it's it's really interesting if

you care at all you may not care because you

don't care about the World outside like some

of it is interesting to me. Like I always I did

like the I like Subject 16. I like the little

glitches and stuff that they showed you. I do

like the deeper story that is being told. It's

just that the present -day stuff, for some reason,

didn't interest me. It's one of those catch -22

things, because you wouldn't have the game -breaking

glitches and stuff like that if it wasn't for

the fact that it existed inside of a computer,

which I actually enjoyed. But I just feel like...

Maybe it's just Desmond as a character I didn't

really care for. I don't think most people care

for this. Yes, and you won't be climbing any

trees reskinned as cranes in this game. Oh good

Well, that's that's a relief It's do I get on

a mail cart that handles like the boat? No, no

Okay, um, but I'm having lots of fun with and

I just got to the point of my ship that Like

I was I came across there was two or three man

of wars because you can there's when you go out

of the boats not all the boats are enemies to

you necessarily some will be British and some

will be Spanish so they'll fight each other so

you can just look off in the distance and see

two ships battling and just go right in the middle

and attack both of them so I pulled in between

all these ships and I just started firing broadsides

out of both my sides in between them which is

probably a horrible technique but it worked to

park in between the two factions and just start

you know and By boarding a ship, it gives you

three options to lower your wanted level. You

can turn it to your fleet or you can heal your

ship. So you can literally leapfrog your way

through 20 ships you're facing as long as as

soon as you start getting health, you go up to

one of the ones you've disabled, board it, heal

your ship, and then go back out and start fighting

the rest of them. I'll have to borrow it from.

Alley by bar. I just mean like take it from her

and I mean, I'm I'm decent I don't know how far

story wise I am in the game and I still haven't

unlocked the rope dart. Oh, how did the How do

the weapons upgrades work? Is it more like Assassin's

Creed 2 or it's like Assassin's Creed 3 where

you start out with the best thing in the game?

No, you definitely don't start off with the best

one. I mean the best weapon That you can get

for like swords you have to complete every assassination

contracting Get access to them Yeah Well, I mean

you don't have to I mean all it's gonna do it

but they're gun blades There it's basically the

swords that have pistols built into the grip.

So I know what a gun blade is Final Fantasy says

hi Yeah, but um It doesn't change. I mean like

besides damage and stuff, but when you do your

finishers You know how does it always does that

slow -motion kill when you finally kill somebody?

Yeah, but imagine instead you stabbing a sword

to his face then blowing his head off Hmm Yeah,

those heads off and you can also by Completing

all the side Mission stuff you get access to

different things. I want to get the my it's called

Mayan armor or whatever You complete these like?

The my mine mine stones I forget what they were

in the third or you get to a vantage point And

then it would give you like a symbol that you

could manipulate and move and you have to match

it up with natural landmarks Forget it was in

the third one the building glitches. I don't

remember what it was in the third one So anyway,

isn't that an after the game thing in the third

one? It might have been real -world stuff not

In the animus I can't remember but it's that

concept and by getting those you get these minestones

And if you get all of them you unlock my armor

which deflects bullets. It's basically like steel

armor all over you Does it still look like the

Assassin's robe nope? Oh, that's boring Everything

should look like the Assassin's robe. Oh every

if you get if you get a new suit, it looks like

the new suit It kind of Seems a little weird

to me about the game is the fact that number

one you're not an assassin Nope You're posing

as an assassin and you kind of fall into this

whole thing But if you didn't know that you it's

literally in the first two hours of the game

First like 40 minutes of the game. Yeah the The

first costume I got was the shark hunter one

which looks so stupid which it looks dumb But

it looks like a pirate uniform. I mean, it looks

like somebody who's been sailing the seas. It

has nothing to do It was like I played with it

for like four hours with that costume on I'm

just like it's just doesn't feel right like I

feel weird going I don't like not having a hood

Yeah, I'm like this seems bizarre and then I

switched over to the LTA robes And so I was using

those for a little bit because the nice thing

is is if you've played the other games and you

link it up with your you play account you get

You get everybody you get SEOs you can get Connor.

I'll tear SEO and Connor so That's I mean that's

been kind of the uniform things like I don't

usually get caught up in who there's different

skins and uniforms, it's because it feels to

Final Fantasy X2 to me. Just that games is such

a piece of shit. I apologize to any of you that

like Barbie dress of Final Fantasy. So I don't

usually get caught up in the skins and stuff,

but I don't know. For some reason, it adds an

element to the Assassin's games. It just feels

weird not wearing an Assassin's robe of some

sort. So Yeah, I will say that the I was telling

you I believe I told you about this on the last

one How did the companion app for the tablets

where you'd actually do the fleet stuff? It's

kind of broken the game for me a little Because

now I time that I'm playing the game the iPads

upstairs and that's way too far to go for it

Well, the thing is like if I'm bored or whatever

from going poop whatever happens I'll be on my

tablet like oh, you know, whatever send my ships

off again But so you do it with such more regularity

than you would if you were doing in the game

It was like I I didn't think it was yes for two

days when I came back to the game I had an extra

hundred and eighty eight thousand Whatever reels

I think is what they call them the games of dollars

so I could afford everything in the game now

like 350 ,000 So it's so the only things I have

to really worry about is like getting metal and

wood and cloth to upgrade my ship nice Like I

bought everything for that pirate Cove or whatever.

It's called Have all in my whorehouse You know

what that's praying to the choir sister But yeah,

definitely the finest Assassin's game I've played

with a lot and saying that it's an Assassin's

game is So weird because it doesn't play like

a normal Assassin's game at all No, it doesn't

and it's I mean the only real similarities is

the fact that you're Kind of going against the

Templars, but not really for oh, yeah your guy

doesn't care about beating the guy He cares about

himself. He cares about money and he cares about

protecting the pirate way of life. That's the

one noble thing about him. I think the entire

main motivation of the entire thing is he finds

out that it sounds like the Templars are going

to attack NASA and that the entire reason why

he even gets involved is because he doesn't want

to see the pirates suffer. He's very much, I'm

sorry, as he would say, The privateers he's very

much He's like they're better men live and that's

all they are He's a defender of the privateers

and he very much cares for all his fellow pirates

So it's I think that's the noblest thing about

him is the fact that he he does legitimately

give a crap about The rest of the pirates everybody

else is completely expendable though. All right.

Yeah doesn't give a shit about anybody else It's

kind of funny when somebody's like oh this this

guy needs to be killed to be like that All right

good Let's let's move on from there So this past

Saturday well at this past Saturday, this is

really hard to do so A Saturday, and it's different.

The Spiked VGAs, the video game awards, were

relabeled to VGX. I don't know what the X was

supposed to stand for. Extreme! I have no idea.

I guess it's just supposed to sound cooler. But

anyways, they did their annual shenanigans, and

man, it was just as bad as ever. Hey, I don't

okay number one I will defend it in the way of

I appreciate the fact They're not doing it in

front of an audience and not doing the quirky

Really super stupid like let's have a guy dress

up like Kratos and come and accept it I mean

it was obvious to me that the developers cared

more than the people actually putting the event

up. Okay. Let's back this up. They rebranded

it, and they did something slightly different

this year, which I commend them on. It was essentially

like watching an E3 press conference again. It

was not on TV on Saturday. They live -streamed

it everywhere, and it was a three -hour live

-stream where they had... When they did like

a game announcement, they had the developers

come on afterwards and talk about the game a

little bit here and there and stuff like that.

So there was more like upfront with developers

talking about their games and you got to see

them. They got to spend more time with that stuff.

And what they did is they took that entire three

hour broadcast and they cut it down to about

an hour and they released like a highlight reel

on Monday, which was just all like the pertinent.

Stop, I haven't watched to see what they actually

thought was worthy of being highlighted and what

I heard it's only like half an hour long or something

That's surprising. That's what there's their

sizzle reel for them because it was Most the

interactions and interviews were incredibly awkward.

They were awkward because Jeff Keighley Is a

terrible host is it? Terrible host and the other

guy Joel McHale didn't even want to be there

He definitely didn't look like he wanted to be

there. Oh, and he was drinking the entire time

in time So he became slightly more surly throughout

the entire event. I guess I just didn't appreciate

true professional Don't get me wrong jokes Joel

McHale is great. I like Joel McHale on the soup.

I like him on community But this was obviously

somebody was like oh, he's on the soup he could

totally do this thing and They just didn't think

they asked him Joel do you even like or respect

people in the video game industry? It was very

apparent that he didn't didn't it's apparent

that he hasn't played games since the Atari 2600

My biggest disappointment of the night Was the

giant ass cock tease that was Reggie Philamy

from Nintendo Oh showing up with a frickin Metroid

pen With nothing to say about it I with the developer

from retro showing off Donkey Kong Country freeze

and Keely even hit on it was like so you guys

wouldn't say anything about you know announce

anything in regards to Metroid and Reggie's like

nope they look at each other too did you see

that the guy from Metro and Reggie looked at

each other like I hate you so much right now

well and it's okay number one it's Nintendo they're

not going to announce anything huge like that

when Nintendo announces something that means

it's coming out within the year Also, they do

their monthly updates via their website or do

their little meetings monthly. They announce

things there. They're not going to waste it on

VGX. Unfortunately, the biggest issue with the

VGX is the fact that they think they're bigger

than they really are. That is the main issue.

It's like GameStop. managers convention is they

think exclusives or big things are going to get

announced there when the fact that they're managers.

It's a manager's meeting. Same thing with the

VGX is the they're kind of new. They're not really

super established. Not a lot of people are taking

it super seriously and it's spike TV. Okay, hold

on. The VGAs have been around for 10 years. The

VGAs have always been a terrible, terrible joke.

They've been a terrible, terrible joke, but you

can't... I totally agree with what you're saying.

And I understand Nintendo, you know, they think

they're bigger than they actually are, and that's...

But when Sony will show up and drop a trailer

for Uncharted 2 or Uncharted 3, like, where they

used the VGAs to make their announcements, and

those are, like, hardcore games... I feel like

Metroid is a game that you could bring to the

VGAs. I think we're more likely to get a Metroid

announcement at E3. I understand. To me, Nintendo

doesn't seem like the kind of company that's

going to waste it on something like this. Yeah.

And maybe they do that with Uncharted because

they know nothing else is going to get big announced

there. I think they're going to be the big name

there. To me, like... People were clamoring all

day on social media because they did the vote

for like, you know What do you want to see and

everybody was touting division division division

division division division Like okay, we get

a world exclusive brand new trailer for the division.

What did they give the people a? Tech demo they

gave them a Tech demo for the division, which

was I think that just don't get me wrong the

tech demo get somebody like me excited because

that was awesome, but Most people aren't going

to find the beauty in the simplicity of a tech

demo and it's not I don't think it's the The

crowd for of course also in my opinion. I think

they were more tailoring it towards gamers the

moment They made it more of an online thing But

I feel like when they were doing the full release

online and the Yeah. But I feel like, okay, the

VGAs is a place where, like, the Uncharted's

were unveiled, and Skyrim was unveiled at the

VGAs. There were, like, there are other, like,

big games like that. Skyrim, the dude -bro of

RPG games. I don't, do you really think so? I

don't know, I don't play them. Okay, but I'm

just, like, I'm just saying, like, that is the

type of place that that, this has actually been

the most lackluster VGAs in years. I think it

was a lackluster hosting. Okay, I wanted to okay

Nintendo aside I wanted to like jump into some

of the bigger things that were actually like

Announced like some of the surprise things that

happened You mean the fact that it turned into

the telltale's announcement show. Yeah telltale's

ran The show with everything put at the same

time every time the telltale's logo showed up.

I just kept thinking about how diluted the rest

of the stuff must be getting like When you when

they've got when they've got the wolf among us

going on right now And then they've got the walking

dead season 2 coming out later this month And

then they have a tales from the borderlands coming

out which that was the one thing that kind of

got me a little excited It got me excited. You

didn't see coming at all. Well, that's cool tales

from borderlands looks exciting because of the

fact that no matter how Pissed off or upset.

We've been about the DLC There's one thing that

that series has always gotten right and that's

really quirky interesting characters Yeah, which

is what telltale and I think what telltale does

really good with that and I think that's what's

going to make tales from Borderlands Far more

interesting to me. Is that working is the fact

that they just in the trailer that they had Handsome

Jack and the trailer which knowing that handsome

Jack's gonna be a part of this is just like sold

take my money I was like you can have all all

new main characters for this game But telling

me the handsome Jack's gonna be the villain I

was like fucking take my 20 bucks for the season

pass now. I'm ready to go Yeah, I do this. I

showed the trailer to Ali and I was like, I'm

excited for that game She goes, but it's a borderlands

game. I said, yeah, but it's not made by gearbox.

Yeah And then they announced the Game of Thrones

from Telltale. Not the slightest bit interested.

But, okay, I gotta wonder how big Telltale is.

They gotta be huge now. How many people do they

have? They're in the beginning phases of Wolf

Among Us. Tuesday... which this is probably going

to air after it releases will be in the release

of season two of walking dead then they're going

to have tales of borderlands in 2014 and game

of thrones in 2014 and they already announced

that game of thrones is going to be a multi -year

contract type of thing so we're going to get

multiple Game of Thrones chapters. Not to mention

Wolf Among Us is going to be released throughout

2014 as is The Walking Dead. And for anyone that's

just wondering, quick aside here, we will be

covering Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead,

but probably not until they're all out. Oh, I'm

sure we'll talk. Talk about them, but not like...

Well, I've already covered, talked about Wolf

Among Us a little bit. Okay, but I won't be.

It's hard for you to play anything until the

entire things come out I I get it you're not

an episodic type of a game you need it You need

to blow it all in one load it where the rest

of us can be patient. Nope. I can't do that video

gaming now, I think I Know Dan are you weren't

completely blown away by this? The most impressive

thing that the newest thing that I saw out of

the VGX Awards and that kind of amazed me was

the No Man's Sky. I think the more and more I

look at it, the more and more I read about it,

the more and more interested I am. But ultimately,

if it's just going to be a Mac and PC title,

meh. I thought it was a console game. If it's

a console game, I'm totally behind it. I'm pretty

sure it's a console. I'm pretty sure it's coming

to the PS4 because it's made by the guys that

made Joe Danger. And that's a concept. If it's

$14 .99 or less, I will totally buy it the day

it comes out. For anyone that doesn't know, there's

not a whole lot known about this game, but everything

in it is procedurally generated. It's a persistent

online world. So what your actions have ramifications

for your friends. They haven't really delved

too much into how the multiplayer works. It's

being made by two guys? Four guys? Think it was

four guys four guys Basically, it's one of those

games where if you're on a planet and you see

a mountain you can go to the top of that mountain

And when you look up into the sky if you see

a moon You can go to the moon like you can get

into your ship and fly to the moon and walk around

on the moon And from there if you see like a

nebula or a star you can fly to that star If

you can see it, you can go there. Pretty much.

And the worlds are populated with creatures and

weather, and it's a game of exploration. They've

already said that. They said that there is combat

in it, but there wasn't any shown in the trailer,

which, Daner, I know you tuned out of the VGAs,

but I was kind of getting annoyed when the first

question out of both the host's mouths to the

developers were, what's the combat like? Yeah.

that was a stupid that was that just annoyed

me like why does everyone why do i have to shoot

something for it to be good like dude bro i mean

come on now if you can't shoot something in the

face how good can it be man yeah that's how it

could be gone home good yeah don't shoot anything

in that game so but yeah uh no man's sky was

probably the most interesting i saw and it looks

it looks pretty it's very colorful um the palette,

the textures were kind of muted. I'm not sure

if that's like the art style they were going

for or we were looking at like, you know, it

obviously was a beta build, but don't know if

that's an indication of the finished product.

I know there was a game that you were excited

for, Danner. Broken Age? Yeah, the new Telltale

game. Double fine. I'm sorry double another it's

gonna say no, it's another double double fine

Tim Schaefer game The only reason that this like

I don't get me wrong. It looked pretty it looked

awesome The only reason that I was more taken

aback by no man's sky than I was by broken ages

because I had seen those videos before I had

but I notoriously I don't like to really follow

games because I like to be More surprised when

the game comes out. Yeah The the big announcement

they had for the game was that It is They added

Elijah wood as the male voice character So that

was pretty much all they had to show for that.

They showed off dying light Which I tuned out

before that came out before which I think I'm

I went on and watched videos. I'm disappointed

I tuned up before the show that it looks okay

I've been following dying light since e3 when

that when it first hit like the radar and I'm

Interested in it because it has the the mirrors

edge thing going for it where it's all free running

and something like that. Although during the

VGX, when they did the interview with the developers

about the game, they were talking about there's

a freedom of movement that you've never had in

a video game before. And I texted Daner, I said,

apparently everyone's forgotten about Mirror's

Edge. Which they probably have. It's Mirror's

Edge with zombies. So basically you get to have

an axe or a hammer or something like that. Parkour

zombies. Yeah, I'm look I am looking forward

to that although it will probably scare the crap

out of me Then there was Titanfall stuff, which

I'm the only one that's excited for Titanfall

Don't get me wrong. It looks it looks really

cool. It looks like an interesting thing. It's

just meh Then we talked about Tom Clancy's division,

which was just a demo, but boy was it pretty

Man is it that game's gonna be so good. What

what really got me? Is I was you know one of

the things because Twitter around Twitter the

VGX was were was so bad I was watching the Twitter

comments just get people's feedback as to what

was happening and Arthur gaze from rebel of rebel

FM when the demo for the division stuff went

up He tweeted that what you're looking at right

now, and you're like shit compared to them He

said what you're looking at right now The game

looks three times better than this Because obviously

we're watching it on a stream and that's we've

talked before you know only so much but man does

the stream look good And I don't even know man.

Let's just i'm This is one of the things I wanted

to get into last on episode 38 But I was too

like stoned out of my mind from a decongestant

to actually Bring this up Uh, we aren't pc gamers.

Um We don't spend hundreds of dollars upgrading

our computers to get the best of the best So

like when we get excited about a game that's

like locked at 30 frames a second or we get 1080p

textures and they look amazing Yeah, you PC elitists

have probably had it for forever, but we haven't

and it's awesome And I'm just so excited for

what this what we're gonna get down the road

Like if this is what's happening in the first

in the opening months. Yes, what? Oh my god,

holy shitness is going to happen later. And we

said it on episode 38. This is third parties

doing this stuff with this hardware. I just wow.

And there's quantum break, which I care nothing

about. I don't know about you, Danner or Chauncey.

I I think I made the comment to you is what's

the remedy? Yep. I've never liked or enjoyed

any game they've ever made so quantum break to

me was just more of It's gonna be a game that

yeah, it's probably gonna sell a lot, but it's

not gonna be anything. I'm interested I've never

Apologize if I insult these series. I didn't

give a shit about Alan Wake and I played Two

Max Payne games now and I didn't like either

of them. I just was bored I just don't give a

crap about I don't give a crap about the stories.

I don't give a crap about the characters I find

their games completely uninspiring. I don't know

what it is about that developer or what I think

their issues but man I just There's something

about that company that I they just make they

seem to find a way to make gaming unenjoyable

for me Yeah, I gotta get going. Where can they

reach you if they wanna yell at you? You can't

I don't like you people is what it is You can

reach me on Twitter at at Sean D Brown and now

you know why I'm called that so crazy You can

find me on Xbox at weapon 87. I will be playing

that system for as long as I possibly can Yeah,

that's pretty much it Alright, man. Well, you'll

be back on the other side of the commercial break

for episode 40. So, okay All right, Dan, it's

just you and me Good. So I like it. All right,

we'll get we'll get this wrapped up here won't

go on too much longer They also showed off South

Park stick of truth Winning if that game comes

though ever any interest in the game though Not

really no, okay. I'm but it was first announced

years ago. Yes now. It's It's fucking Starcraft

goes to me now Dude, it's so much closer to being

released than the Starcraft ghost ever was You

can't even do that Lumber for a phrase that it's

Duke nukem forever to me now It's coming out

eventually, but it's gonna be really disappointing

when it gets here, okay thief I said this to

you in a text, but I think that for the first

year of the system of the next gen stuff, I see

myself buying things I normally wouldn't play

for two reasons. One, just to try something new

and to see what the system can actually do. And

two, because there's not a lot coming. So I'm

willing to give... Thief a try it looks cool.

So no thief looks good. And I mean, I really

enjoyed I've played some of the old thief games

on PC way back in the day But I Really enjoyed

Dishonored and it's the same. I mean same developer

same team same pretty much everything Different

publisher, I believe. Square Enix versus Bethesda?

Yeah. I really haven't looked at much about it,

but I love the Thief series on pure reputation

alone. I'm hoping they keep some of the game

mechanics from Dishonored, but I'm looking more

grounded in reality. type of gameplay For a thief

as opposed to dishonored with which had that

steampunk slash supernatural element to it so

I'm And I think it's also coming out in the perfect

time because there is nothing coming out So it's

in that nice space because it'll be coming out

in February. So I get Tomb Raider Enhanced in

January, we get Thief in... Aw, way to just throw

that one out there. February, and then we're

going to get Metal Gear 5 and Second Son in March.

Okay. Thank you for tipping that one. No problem.

One of my predictions from earlier in the year

has come to pass. I believe it was... earlier

this year right after the PlayStation 4 was announced

and the hardware specs and whatnot but before

Tomb Raider I somewhere in there I said that

Tomb Raider would get a next -gen release we

are getting that it is the Tomb Raider definitive

definitive edition it is coming to the PS4 and

the Xbox one it has all the DLC which I do not

care about The DLC was multiplayer, so right

exactly so do not care about it comes with all

the collectible stuff again I think it comes

with like a collectible hardcover if you get

it from Amazon, which I am Basically they've

souped everything up and it doesn't from what

I've been able to gather. It's not the same thing

as Like the ps2 HD remakes for the ps3 like It

sounds like they've gone and enhanced the PC

edition. All the textures and everything have

been upgraded. All the polygon counts for all

the models in the game have been increased. One

of the things about the PC version was that ATI

developed a graphics process called TressFX,

which can be applied to hair in video games.

renders each individual strand of hair as its

own, gets its own physics model. They've put

that in the game because all next -gen consoles

run on ATI, so they can do that really easily.

A couple of other physics things they've done,

all the gear on Lara's belt now has its own physics

model as well, so it moves independently when

you're moving around the environment. All in

1080p, they haven't said anything about the frame

rate. But if it's locked at 30, I'll be happy

if it's 60. I'll probably make myself sick I'm

excited for this For Tomb Raider for two reasons

one. I really did like Tomb Raider. I really

did as much as As much as I knocked it when Dan

and I were talking about earlier this year and

whatnot about the the little things about burning

rope to get to a Wooden box and you know a 90

pound girl being able to rip down concrete walls.

I Had a lot of fun with the game I still stand

by the fact that you turn into a murdering psychopath

like an hour into the game and that's fine Especially

like the new trailer they put out for the definitive

edition definitive edition. It looks more like

an uncharted game than it ever has before All

the like in that trailer all the oh, it's Laura

She's a co -ed and she's it's her first time

doing this of none of that stuff is in the new

trailer None of it. It is all her being a murdering

psychopath The second reason I'm excited for

this game is because it will be it will give

a baseline for what uncharted should look should

look like And yeah, so that's why I'm really

excited for it. So, um, Dan, you found something.

I saw your Twitter. Do you want to talk about

that? Did you read that article? I was just on

Twitter and most people were, you know, hoping,

praying that there was going to be announcement

of fallout for on. The VGX's which there wasn't

Nothing big gets announced at the VGX's nothing

big gets announced at the VGX's and it seems

to be like the brumblings of the internet and

most people is we're all kind of Waiting on a

fallout for announcement a Lot of people were

upset because that the website that popped up

online the survivor 2929 website was a fake if

it's a bunch of bored Swedish assholes, basically

getting all of our hopes up. But some documents

over at Bethesda have unofficially leaked. And

the article actually just came out from when

we're reporting within the last half hour. Documents

have been released that fallout is definitely

in development. And it's taking place in post

-apocalyptic Boston this time. See I will probably

end up buying this game even if I never play

it. Yeah To me when it comes to the fall like

this is the weird thing Elder Scrolls fall out

both Bethesda properties. I've never been able

to get into Elder Scrolls. I literally put 20

minutes into making a character in Morrowind

and I was like this is the most Boring uninspiring

interface I've ever seen in my entire life Picked

out fallout 3 when it first came out. I've put

140 to 160 hours into that game There's something

about fallout 3 that I just love love that game

New Vegas I put some time into it not as much

as I put in the fallout 3 Is that because of

the setting? I don't know if it has something

to do with the setting or the fact that I...

Fallout 3 came out at a time where I happened

to find myself in between jobs. And literally

the day Fallout 3 was released was the day I

lost my job. Really? Yeah! Was actually fired

on the day fallout 3 was released. That's why

it was really depressing to me that So when somebody

tweeted out that it was the fifth anniversary

of fallout 3 it made me a little sad because

That was the day that my employment with GameStop

ended Which started a really difficult month

and a half Period of time for me, which I've

got over it and I'm better now but I There's

some This fallout three has a special place in

my heart because it was there for me when game

staff wasn't. And I suck a massive amount of

time into that game and I just. I love I love

the atmosphere, I love the storytelling, I just

love everything about. The fallout universe.

We're elder scrolls. I just can't get into it.

I just can't buy into it. It just doesn't And

I think it's because isn't like every elder scrolls

game is like a new it's like a Final Fantasy

title the fact that it's like a new It's a new

story Actually, no, I believe all contained in

the same universe. It's all the same universe

In fact, there are a lot of people that are clamoring

for them to actually like Release a way to connect

all the like connect there like basically each

game is a new region Okay with the new story,

but the whole my understanding is each game is

a new region with a new story But if you were

to lay all the regions out on a map, they go

together Kind of like okay, so it's kind of what

they've done with fallout, right? Well, yeah,

cuz fallout takes place in the US. So if you

did, you know Vegas and you know Pennsylvania

and all that stuff No, I'm for me. I'm gonna

look at I'm looking at fallout. I'm looking at

whatever Bethesda does as kind of What I have

lack of a better way to say this kind of put

your money where your mouth is kind of thing

Yeah, because Bethesda is the one company that

cried foul at the Mount of Ram in the current

gen systems and the RAM architecture in the PS3

as the reason their games were complete garbage

on those systems. And now with the newer systems

having way more RAM and having a unified pool

of RAM... This is going to be one of those...

It seems like now... It's put up or shut up time

type of thing? Yes, it's put up or shut up. But

that's not saying that I think the games will

still have their bugs that Fallout's known for.

I just... It's like just make the game shut up

about it. Because it... The hardware... They

basically... These systems were... More or less,

these systems were designed around the... The

bitching that Bethesda did about the consoles.

Yeah The ps4 was pretty much designed with Bethesda

in mind almost. I mean I obviously that's not

Completely true. Yeah, it's not completely true,

but it's it very much. They were probably very

vocal especially about the unified Pool of RAM

and stuff like that and and they've been this

entire last generation. They've been championing

the more RAM more RAM more RAM and Yeah, they

Well, they got like eight times the amount of

RAM now. So yeah Yeah, it's put up or shut up

and I and I will probably buy it. I didn't buy

fallout 3 I bought New Vegas and I played like

an hour of it. I didn't hate it I just never

went back to it. I'm Really interested to see

what fallout 4 is gonna look like because yeah,

the fallout games have always looked pretty good

So really interested to see what that looks like

You have anything more you want to add in general

to the stuff that we've talked about or do you

want to? Wrap this up. I don't care with wrapping

it up because I need to get back to last of us,

so we're Should we make this like an actual two

episodes should I just say come back on the other

side of the commercial break for episode 40 I

Say come back on the next side for episode 40

and at that ladies and gentlemen Stay tuned for

episode 40 A brave new world. It has such patsas

in it. The Pull Bag is GCRN's comic book review

the fun Sorry, I'm eating a a big king That sounds

like chips not a big well, I was just eating

french fries That was french fries. Yeah, no

kidding. I'll fucking cook for those french fries.

Holy shit. Has anyone had the saddest fries?

Yes, they're pretty good which fries they're

called saddest fries. They're crinkle cut fries

from Burger King and they're like 30 % less fat

I have a feeling that they're 30 % less fat because

you get 30 % less fries. There's less of them

because there's like it's not a crinkle cut It's

like they took it's like they took a french fry

and you know how like when you're a kid You make

a Christmas tree just by going like you just

like cut into something and make a Christmas

tree That's how you make those things. That's

a crinkle cut. You just cut it. Whoa, they're

doing mask of the phantasm 20th anniversary screenings

Sure Did you see that Paul Rudd was Ant -Man?

What? Don't know how to feel about that. How

can you know how? Is Ant -Man supposed to be

a funny character? Yes, well, I'm not depending

on what Depending on which version of Ant -Man

they're going with I'm assuming they're going

with the thief version Well, I mean have you

seen the I mean there was a great one of the

greatest things I ever heard Joss Whedon say

was that Comedies or was it he hires comedians

to do his stuff because comedy is hard drama

is easy Yeah, yeah of comedy and drama comedy

supposed to be the easy one So All right Let's

do this because we have so much to talk about

oh Yeah, not really. Oh my Or make fun of Daner

for being an old man. All right. Hello Your dick

Alright. Now you can do your stupid introduction.

Hello and welcome to Off the Cuff episode 40.

I'm your host Michael Powers. Joining me this

week with a birthday of all things is Art Danner.

Hi. And we have Shauncey Brown. Hello. And I'd

just like to be the first to say happy birthday

Danner. And congratulations on being 94 years

old today. Damn it. I was gonna try and say happy

birthday first on the show Well, thanks tons

of fun just toss some more fries in your mouth

I Am that's actually I'm right now, but I'm biting

into my big hang brought to you by Burger King

who is now response. No Wow Did you say I'm sorry

when you I assumed you said we're saying biting

into a big king I assumed you were mouthing down

on a giant penis You'd be walking with a limp

up. I ever did that dinner Anyways happy birthday

dinner How old you actually dinner 33 33 Wow

three three and a third decades Thanks Matt whiz

yeah, that's what I'm here for Sure on this episode

of off we're talking about math equations Okay,

so I noticed something interesting about my you

know, my my video game habits like, you know

how I I'm the one that I always go out and like

I'll buy a game and I'll just leave it in the

shrink wrap and not play it I You know, I have

the feeling that the Vita is turning into that

Same graveyard for me only the fact only the

problem is like it's digital content So it's

all hidden like I don't realize how so it's how

you're getting around your New Year's Resolution

to open all your games when you buy them probably

That's bullshit doesn't count the window at some

point in the year Yeah The next time. No, he

he was totally fine until the next game. I know

a game that I bought this year on a console that

I bought this year that I haven't finished. I

think is Nino Cooney. Well, Grand Theft Auto,

but I didn't buy that for the single player.

Oh, yeah. OK. Speaking of which, they released

a new thing today. A new mode. So moving on.

I. Yeah, the Vita has become like this. digital

content graveyard that I see games that seem

really interesting and I just buy them. And I

don't play them. Like, for instance, I bought,

what was it, Tearaway, which we've been talking

about a lot lately. GameStop put it up for sale

for 20 bucks for a physical copy. And I was like,

I don't really want a physical copy of a Vita

game, and I don't really want to buy something

from GameStop. So I passed on it. GameStop's

never unless they give you a. Yeah, just say

unless they give you a 32 gigabyte Vita card

for 40 bucks. That I jumped on, however. I still

think you probably could have done better. Now

that time you couldn't. The 32 gigabyte memory

cards like 80 bucks. Could have had a fancy drop

off your house All right, if I see if I ever

I mean that the odds of that ever happening if

I ever see a drone flying I'm getting my shotgun

shooting it down, and I just won prizes yes,

and I'm pretty sure you're under being arrested

for that Thanks to what? Yeah For what I was

being attacked by the aliens. I'm protecting

my horse that you're sir You're from New York

Act like it Okay I think we've already determined

the fact that there's a lot of New York and Sean's

is not from the cool part of New York. No, I'm

from the really very red necky, shitty, cold,

hilly part. He might as well be from Alabama.

That's how far away he is from the cool part

of New York. He's in the south. It's true, but

incest frowned upon. Okay, so anyways. The next

day after GameStop's thing, Amazon did the $20

for a physical copy as well for Tearaway, and

I was like, well, I like Amazon. And, you know,

I could just leave it permanently in my Vita.

So I went ahead and ordered a copy. And then

the next day, Amazon turned around and put up

a digital copy of the game for 20 bucks. So I

snagged that one. So I have my physical copy

of Tearaway actually sitting on the counter.

I'm trying to decide if I should return it, or

if I should give it away, maybe on the podcast.

Eh? How many people do you have that actually

have Vitas though? So write in, say why you should

win. And we're not going to send you a Vita.

I'm sorry, I know Danner said it was worth $250.

You got 250 off the cuff points. No offense,

but if any of our listeners have Vitas and they

haven't bought Tearaway already, I'm a little

bit disappointed. And they're dead to us. We

can make it up. I wouldn't go that far because

they certainly seem to rip on you in the forums

which I'm fine with. That's okay. If anyone does

have a Vita or they want to spend the $180. Or

they want to spend the $180. Doesn't know how

to read. There's no pictures. What bullshit is

that? If anyone does have a veto Another thing

about the people on the forums. Sorry. Go ahead.

Are we done? We're good. I promise I can't do

it anymore I'm never going to be able to finish

this Mom doesn't count. Nope. You're right. She

left after the night. Should I just move on?

Should I? Should I give up? I'm going to I'm

stopping now. I call ceasefire. Should I give

up on the idea of giving away a copy of Tearaway?

No, I think I really think if they can, you know,

like do like a why the best answer would be,

I have a Vita. That would be I mean. I'm pretty

sure they would win. OK, so if someone says I

have a Vita and they're like a regular person

who posts a lot and has a lot of forums just

post that I have a Vita. Yeah. And I don't own

Tara. First person to respond with no Tara. Yeah.

First person to respond in the comments section.

I have a Vita and I don't have Tara away. We'll

find a way to get contact information for you.

Yes, and we will get you a copy too. Yep, and

then we'll have But don't worry Mike's already

opened the shrink wrap on it and already rubbed

his penis all inside of it So it's a special

edition and he had lots of anyways back to the

digital graveyard. That is my Vita So I had that

copy of Tearaway on there and then just yesterday

when I was at work, I bought a copy of Euphoria

HD because it was on the Vita and it was on sale

for being a PlayStation Plus member for like

eight bucks. And I was like, maybe I'll check

that out. Okay. I mean, I have no desire to go

and play and I was like, why did I buy this again?

And then I just realized it's just a giant graveyard

of stuff that I don't really I Don't play like

I carry it around I charge it when I charge it

when it's dead And I turn it on to see if there's

something new that I should buy or Dan or tells

me that hey Maybe you should check this out and

I'll download it and then I'll just not play

it The downloader really quick that's gonna be

his review the install went super smooth time

was amazing I like the icon. Yeah, I think it's

really yeah, I don't I'm not down on the beat

I think it's a really nice piece of hardware

and I did play like 90 % of Arkham Blackgate

I'm at the I'm probably the same part of Blackgate

as I was with origins Which by the way, I have

finished Arkham origins So Sean Z. Have you played

it at all? Yeah, okay, Ark Morgan's no, I have

not um I want to Well, I'm waiting for it to

just be like on I It's not so crazy different

from the others that I'm willing to go out and

spend Anything more than like 30 bucks on it,

and I think it's right now I think it's 35 at

a few places. Yeah, you should go buy it now

because it's better than city It is better than

city. Oh, no, it's a little it's a lot more focused

than city was Like the the main narrative in

it is more compelling to like drive you it's

a lot easier to latch on to the main narrative

and and plow through the game then city was which

was just They hit you over the head with everything,

and you couldn't really tell what was supposed

to be part of the story and what wasn't. Yeah,

I heard that they, like, it's the distraction

of the Joker things, or not the Joker, but the

Riddler Trophies being fucking everywhere is

not as crazy. No. Right? It's not like you look

out and see, oh, there's 50 ,000 things I can

get right now. Well, they're still all over the

place, but my, my, my, the thing is, is like

the, one of the complaints I had about City that

I - that I keep having about City is that I didn't

do any of the Riddler stuff because Riddler wasn't

actually woven into the story like at all. He

was there. You just had to go. Well, right. No,

that's that's the thing. Like he was in City.

He was in the church and they had the. The radio

beacon was kept going off at the church and I

kept and the entire time I was playing the game

I'd hit the start menu and look at the map and

I'd see that beacon thing and I was like, oh

they'll make me go over there at some point or

I'll get close enough to it and it will start

a cutscene that will like You know bring the

bring whatever's over there into the main story

and it never happened So when I got done with

the game, I had not done any of the Riddler stuff

That's what I mean by it wasn't woven into the

story At least with Origins, the Riddler stuff

is woven into the story because of the mechanic

that they pretty much stole from Assassin's Creed.

Which is you have to take over these radio towers

and then that gives you like, it uncovers a block

of Gotham City and tells you where certain things

are in that vicinity. And when you do that you

engage with Riddler a little bit and you learn

more about what he's doing. so everything's kind

of like woven into this story and stuff like

happens organically as you as you stumble across

the city rather than um just all being crapped

out in front of you uh like city was and this

like the main like i said the main story is a

lot easier to pick up on and there's like the

side quests that really don't have anything to

do with the main story um as far as i could tell

they're just they're just batman being batman

I do like how there's all of the Memes and stuff

are popping up. It's like I'm Batman. I don't

kill I just beat up and not and leave criminals

unconscious in the snow to freeze. Yeah, pretty

much I So it's good. It's good to know. He's

still wholesome and fame You know has those family

that that man's ever had family values being

that he's never had much of a family He's never

had a family It's funny because they're dead.

I did get into, I don't know, it wasn't so much

a... I got into a discussion about my opinion

on the voice of the Arkham Batman. And my opinion

is that I've never felt like Kevin Conroy fit

The Arkham Batman. Even from. Like the style

of the Batman. He doesn't. I don't think he fits

like an armored Batman, like a Batman that wears

a suit of armor rather than spandex. So what?

So you're saying when you hear him, you see Batman.

Not necessarily, because I've seen Conroy in

other he's they've used his voice as Batman in

other depictions. I just don't think he fit the.

um the asylum aesthetic uh and it's one of the

issues that i've had from from even from the

get -go and i and basically the point i was trying

to make is that i really enjoyed the guy that

they got to play batman in origins um i felt

like he brought a good mix of like Christian

Bale's Batman and Conroy's Batman I felt like

he I was having a discussion with one of my friends

who's like a big Batman fan yesterday and I and

I came to the conclusion that the new guy displayed

a range of He gave a range to Batman whereas

Conroy's Batman was like stoic to a fault I This

is kind of like an over exaggeration of of it,

but I feel like maybe it in a way, Conroy was

kind of phoning in, playing the voice of Batman

in the first two Arkham games, whereas, you know,

they had Mark Hamill come back as the Joker,

and I thought Mark Hamill took it to the next

level. Like, he filled those shoes as like the

psychotic Joker. Whereas Conroy was just, you

know... I don't know. I never felt like a fit

and I feel like the new guy just I feel like

the new guy like nailed it and ran and ran with

it. Now, is it just because Conor like Conor

is Batman is iconic, but it doesn't bring any

new life to the character. Yeah, pretty much.

The new guy, the new guy, like again, like I

kind of said, he was like Stoke. Conroy's Batman

is stoic to a fault. And that goes kind of back

to what we were talking about in a way on the

on episode 39, where we were talking about there

is no bigger fish than Batman. Like Batman is

just. You know. It's like he's out there, it's

like there's nothing out here that's worse than

me. I am. I feel like Conroy's Batman in Conroy's

Batman in City, like that's. Like he knew that

that's the Batman that he was. So I guess he

knew that that's the Batman that he was. But

for me, that kind of made that character like

slightly unrelatable, where in Origins, obviously

it's a younger Batman, a more unrefined Batman.

And so he gets angry, but he also has that calm

collected, the calm and collected moments about

him, like when you're doing the detective stuff.

And I just like I said, there's a there's a range

that the new guy brings to the table that Conroy

just didn't bring and even like Hamill with his

joker he brought a range to that it wasn't just

like this it wasn't just like it wasn't always

the maniac joker there was like a or even like

funny it wasn't like one or the other it was

like this this um like a sliding scale of the

joker wasn't like this joker or that joker it

was like all the jokers um And I just felt like

there wasn't, you know, I felt like Conroy didn't

bring that and the voice just didn't fit the

style to me. Like it didn't look like Conroy,

like Conroy's voice just didn't fit the look

of that Batman. And of course the guy on the

comment thread for Ultra Geek, he and I kind

of went back and forth and he said that the reason

that I couldn't see Conroy as the new Batman

is because I saw Like Batman the animated series

is a child's cartoon It's like the cute kids

version of Batman's voice. No Well, I had to

I and I had to tell I said no, I don't see I

didn't see Batman the animated series. It's like

a kit like quote -unquote kids Cartoon series

because the tone is pretty the tone is pretty

dark and the character some of the characters

designs are pretty risque And I say that because

I used to have this um, I wish I knew where it

was actually at this moment, but I had like a

the art behind Batman the animated series and

They had this one they showed this drawing that

they had up in the animation studios of Like

what you can't do in Batman the animated series

and it was like a it was like Catwoman was the

character in the picture but then there were

like all these like there were like drug needles

and drug paraphernalia and this that and the

other thing and the Catwoman they had was like

the the color scheme was like the reverse color

scheme for the character um like what she looks

like in her suit because if you if you drew her

one way and you had and you and you put her in

the wrong color palette she looked naked It just

looked like she was in a colored light. Yeah.

And so they were like, you can't, you know, you

can't do this stuff. And that's, that's what

I mean. Some of those characters, they were like,

so they're like borderline, like, especially

like the female characters, they're like borderline

sexual. And not that that's a bad thing or anything

like that, but he, you know, I made that argument

and he came back with me saying that if I saw

Batman the animated series that way then why

did I think that Kevin Conroy didn't fit the

voice of the Arkham City aesthetic which or the

Arkham games aesthetic which is dark and you

know risk a and He said because he did nothing

to change it to elevate it and it was elevated

To me. I mean the Arkham games felt like a more

elevated Elevated risk factor. Yes compared to

what we ever got in the animated series. The

risks were higher. Yes, absolutely. That's what

I came back with is that I don't see them...

Comparing the animated series to the Arkham games,

all of a sudden the animated series does look

like a cartoon. It's one of those things that

you can't compare the two. I mean, the only reason

that it's even really compared is because of

the fact that it's Conroy. It's Hamill and Dini

wrote the story for both Asylum and City and

I and as I made the argument on there is the

fact that Conroy and Hamill would never have

been involved if it wasn't even was wasn't for

Dini even being on the ground floor of that game

Yeah, I think the moment they got Dini involved

that brought all the these people from the animated

series into the fold as the only reason they

were even there is because of Paul Dini and it

was there and Paul Dini was there to help, you

know, elevate the game to bring it to a bigger

grouping of people and to help, you know, elevate

the sales and boost the sales because that added

a holy crap they're serious about this. They

really want to do something with this game. Yeah,

that's and that's the argument because that we

went the argument kind of the kind of going down

that path because I said that Casting Conroy

and Hamill and the voices from the animated series

was pretty much fan service And the guy said

he did see it as such and I said well, you know,

I don't know My opinion of it is people have

been burned so many times by Batman games Feel

like they it's you know they got Dini on board

and then they got the you know Conroy and Hamill

and the rest of the voice actors fell in line

I feel like that brought the game that put the

game in the sights of more people than it would

have been Yeah, now do you think that they did

that just so it's like hey look we're taking

this one seriously guys yeah, I mean it's it's

one of those things, but I think it was also

I And the argument I made was I think that they

could have used different voice actors and you

would have had the exact you would have had the

same game. Except I think it would have been

like a sleeper hit like there wouldn't have been

as many eyes on it until after launch. Right.

Exactly. Like it would it would have been you

know, it would have been like you would have

instead of going into it going, oh, man, these

voice actors are in it. Oh, this is going to

be so great. Then finding out that the mechanics

were really really still good. You would have

gone in going Oh, it's just another crappy Batman

game, and then you would have heard people talking

about how they got it, right? You know what I'm

saying? It's kind of like the uphill battle that

Batman Begins faced after the Schumacher Batman

movies Oh God, we need another nipple II Batman

suit. Yeah like Like the first batman begins

didn't do that well because it had that uphill

climb from the previous batman movies I didn't

I don't think it did that. Well Opening it was

I think that was one of those ones where it didn't

have this huge amazing release But then you know,

like four or five six seven weeks in it's still

pulling in tons of money Yeah, but i'm not it

just wasn't all opening weekend. Yeah, but that's

what i'm saying is There's a difference between

Batman. There's a big difference in the box office

between Batman begins and the Dark Knight. It's

one of those things where people by the time

the Dark Knight came around, even though Ledger

offed himself and that probably helped with that

box office. It. It. People had an idea of what

they were going to get out of the Dark Knight

because, you know, Batman begins had that slow

burn. I have a feeling that Asylum would have

ended up being that same thing if they had gone

down a different route for the voice actors.

It just would have had a slow burn because the

mechanics in that game are actually pretty solid.

Now, it could have backfired and they could have

had really, really bad voice actors. you know

that we won't know because that didn't happen

and I and we've we've said it here on the podcast

before at least I have and I think you know some

of us shared these concerns is that we were or

at least I was very worried about Origins even

though I wasn't a fan of City I was really worried

about Origins when the game got shifted over

to Warner Brothers Montreal and then got worried

again when Paldini wasn't part of it and Conroy

and Hamill weren't a part of it. Like it was

when we were like, oh, red flags all over the

place. But I think they did. Despite all the

stuff going against them, I think because what

they had at that point in time is they had an

established series. And now our most of our foots

were in the door because of the other two games.

And a lot of the people that don't follow it

as closely just go, hey, look, another Batman

game and these other ones were great. They're

in the door. We're leery going in, but we enjoyed

the other games enough to buy. And be surprised.

And then be surprised because the story was good.

Like, I don't even know if it was. I don't even

know if it's so much my. My expectations were

so low, I don't really think that has anything

to do with it. I also think it was. To me, which

people may not agree and I know I've already

said this, I thought it was really interesting

that the way they marketed it and the way they

sold the game and the storyline they provided

to us, everything goes out the window two hours

into that game. Everything that they advertise,

everything that they sold us on in that game

is just literally the tip of the iceberg. And

the rest of it after two hours in has absolutely

nothing to do with. What they advertise the game

to be which I think was yeah, essentially the

game and I could be completely wrong with with

the way I mean I I what you said is true and

I do agree with that and for me it felt like

I kind of was worried about the game going in

that I was gonna be more like city and After

you know, you start playing it and you get past

that twist the game actually becomes more like

Arkham Asylum, which is more to do Like well,

you shouldn't say with more to do an open environment

asylum. And like I've said, it's way more focused.

It is a way more focused game than City was.

City had that issue where there was so much crap

popping up everywhere around the map that everything

felt kind of rushed and like you had to go do

this other stuff, but you didn't have to do all

this other stuff. And it was once you got it

in your head of I should just do the main storyline.

And then after the main storyline is done, I

can go back and do everything else. But it was

just so ADHD. It was just so scatterbrained and

all over the place. And it was like they had

all these ideas they wanted to do, but they didn't

know how to get them to mesh together. So they

just threw all the ideas out there. And it was

very distracting and it was hard to get into

because of everything being so distracting and

it's one of those literally if the second time

I played it through it literally just ran through

the storyline and Then I did the secondary stuff

and I go god this flows a lot better when you

don't Deal with all those outside distractions

So and where it doesn't feel like outside distractions

in origins because you're like, well, this assassin's

over here doing this one thing, but you can go

deal with this, but there's this other thing

that you can deal with, but there's, you know,

no rush, I guess. Like it all fits into the storyline,

but it doesn't feel like a high pressure situation.

It's there, but it's not confusing. Like I said,

it makes it very apparent what is the story and

what is not. Yeah, and it's in you know, it's

Nothing was really tied together in city. It's

just happened to be This is a giant prison and

we're all trapped in here together This person

is doing this thing. This person is doing that

thing and this and the other thing We're in this

one. This is a city. These are all the assassins

They're all doing their own things around town

and you can go and intercept and take out all

the assassins Or you could do your story and

it's my question now Yeah, um If you don't see

because I know the whole the first premise of

the game is that these assassins are all to get

you right? They're all paid by black mask Black

mask come get you if you and but they're you

said you're saying they're in different parts

of the cities, right? If you don't go there say

you're just dick around and stuff. Will they

eventually come? Well, no, okay, cuz that'd be

cool that sense of yes and no Some of the assassins

are in the story They're just, they're, they're,

they're in your, they are directly in your way.

Other assassins are around the city that you,

when, as you, as you feel the need to go exploring,

you will stumble across them and you'll trigger

a cut scene that will then open up a case file

for that assassin. And they'll give you side

quests that when you finish those side quests,

they will, you will confront that assassin and

take them down. That's how it's a little more

organic. They're just going through the game

and exploring. They don't trigger until you stumble

across them in a certain area. However, like

I said, some of the assassins are directly linked

to the story, like Copperhead, like Firefly.

They are directly linked to things that happen

in the story. But yeah, it's a pretty... Had

a lot of fun with it. I will probably end up

playing some more more with it because unlike

city I actually kind of have that Assassin's

Creed 2 itch where it's Just challenging enough

to go back through and do some of the Riddler

stuff and things like that That it's fun. It's

just challenging enough to be fun Although it's

really annoying because now that I'm in the end

game it seems like every building has a sniper

on top of it. That's what was super awesome about

City also. And now like at any at any one point

you can have four laser sights on you. Which

is freaking annoying. So all right I have one

last question to posture about the the future

of the Arkham franchise. I posted on AlterGeek

Unlimited, but I'd like to get your guys' input

on it as well. And then we can move on to whatever

you guys want to talk about. Sorry, I thought

I'd go first this week. Now, Warner Brothers

Montreal has kind of taken over. They've shown

that they've got the chops to make an Arkham

Gate. To do one. Okay. Rocksteady may or may

not be working on an Arkham 3, we'll just say.

If Origins is zero, we'll just put it that way.

I am kind of expecting to see an Arkham game

this fall by Rocksteady. I don't think it's gonna

be Arkham. Well, I think it will be some kind

of continuation in that universe. I think it'll

be... You think it will be a quote -unquote DC

Batman game? No, I think it'll be a Justice League

game by Rocksteady this fall. But I think it

will be the Batman from Arkham. That's what I

mean. And then next year, I think we'll get,

I think in 2015, We'll get another like Arkham

Origins 2 from Warner Brothers Montreal now Obviously

what I'm hinting at is here is I think Warner

Brothers may have found a way to annualize the

Arkham franchise the way that Activision has

annualized Call of Duty and Ubisoft has annualized

Assassin's Creed What do you guys think On the

thought of them and yeah, I mean I was gonna

say I'm not opposed to it as long as they can

keep the stories interesting and keep the quality

high much like Assassin's Creed I'd know it's

not gonna be perfect all the time like AC3 it

was yeah there you're allowed to have all playable,

but yeah, it can't get like diminishing results

with every Thing and I mean how fast can that

game get burned out? How many times are you gonna

sucker punch Joker in the face before it becomes

not fun anymore? Still saying I want a damn hot

thing somebody somebody on Twitter said that

There there was a tease for what the next Ubisoft

month or Warner Brothers Montreal game could

be So what they tease What's his group? Yes that

Suicide Squad game. Yeah Yeah, and from from

my understanding the um, what's the name of the

Vita game black gate black gate black gate from

my understanding that teases Suicide Squad also

from what I've heard I'll have to finish it.

But then again, I'm not familiar with Suicide

Squad So if it is being teased in there, I don't

know I'm not wait, you don't you don't know what

Suicide Squad is? I'm not a DC guy Okay, educate

us or me Okay Say all there's these random super

villains, right? They all have their specific

skills think thunderbolts. Yes, you put it into

Marvel's So the government comes in and goes

listen you guys want to earn your freedom You're

gonna run like basically black ops missions for

us. Think this is the weapon X program Minus

Wolverine and all them Yeah, every single one

of these missions are no -win scenarios. They

don't really care if they're no -win scenarios.

Yeah, because you're using criminals. Who cares

if they die? Okay. That's why they're the suicide

squad. Oh, man, I swear to God, if they put ragman

in there. Oh, like, do you remember? I don't

know if you remember this. I want to say it was

in Justice League Unlimited. Do you remember

the episode about Task Force X? Yes. That's the

suicide squad. They just didn't want to call

it the Suicide Squad on a cartoon. They couldn't

call it Suicide Squad. They couldn't say Suicide

Squad. They called it Task Force X. So it's yeah,

that's exactly what Suicide Squad is. So after

we've seen Warner Brother Montreal's chops and

we know Rock City's chops, then we're okay with

this. I'm fine with it. Do you see what I'm kind

of... Do you agree with my prediction? Yes, I

know what you're trying to say. I know what you're

trying to say. I'd be more impressed. I want

to see them take a risk. This is what I want

to see happen They made a good Batman game Make

a good Superman game see I've been trying to

I've been toying with that since the idea of

like the Justice League game like they they were

gonna do a Justice League game because they're

gonna have to figure out a way to do Superman

and The only good way I've seen Superman done

But what if they did like What if there was something

that... I know that the Arkham games haven't

been this way, and I'm trying to figure out a

way to make a Justice League game based around

an Arkham game, but again, you have to be able

to switch between characters. What if, like,

Batman or Superman was just, like, in these off,

like, in these, like, super powers, like, his

level was just, like, balls to the wall, like,

super power, like, he... It wasn't... You know,

it was just him being. You know, Superman, so

the parts you play as Superman, the the the challenge

isn't in staying alive, the challenge is, you

know, doing something, beating the clock, saving

people, not trying to stay alive because what

if it's more like that, like they just put a

twist on it that way or like I just I've been

I've been pondering that since they made that

announcement, you know, that's been like a year,

a year or so since they kind of that. stuff kind

of slipped under the rug and I've just been trying

to figure out how they can do the Superman thing

and I mean I don't know obviously you can handle

it if you just put it in a cutscene but I feel

like people would want to be able to play as

Superman but then again it could be a Justice

League game from the point of view of Batman

so You know, it's like you maybe maybe you play

as Batman So he's like the indestructible NPC

that comes in Maybe the entire game just takes

place from Batman's perspective and the other

superheroes cross his path or something Yeah,

the only way I see them ever putting Superman

again with it is Making it be his emergence as

a superhero. So he's doesn't know he doesn't

even know his full strength yet So you talk that's

how you limit. This is like Man of Steel Yeah,

exactly. Like he doesn't know how strong he is,

you know, it's he hasn't he's still not acclimated

You know, you want to see you want you want Superman

in a game where he's not Superman? He's Clark

Kent like but not like I mean Like he has he's

you want to see him before he's Superman. Yeah

kind of that's the only way I can see is like

you seeing him like Within, you know, like Superman

year one or whatever you want to call it. He

doesn't know Even what he's capable of yet I

think that would turn off a lot of people because

or draw them up against people that actually

serve as a threat to him. Yeah, I think that's

what I'm saying. It's Zod and his forces in the

video game where the threats actually really

could cause damage to them. Put them up against

doomsday. But in those things, it would have

to be just a Superman game because in a Justice

League game, what if I wanted to, you know, say

how, you know, Mike was talking how you can switch

between characters. Well, I don't want to play

as you make silent playing as Batman. Oh, I'm

facing doomsday. I have to play Superman. No,

they're forcing you to play. Yeah, that man could

take down doomsday bullshit. Doomsday for after

he rips his spine out. Darkseid. Well, Batman

has taken out. He hasn't taken out Darkseid.

He's dodged the Omega Beams. Oh, boy. There's

a victory. That is a victory. What are you talking

about? I'm pretty sure in some of the comic books.

Isn't that what fries Batman and like leads to

the death of Batman? Getting fried by the Omega

Beams? Eh, DC comics are retarded. I just go

off of the DC AU. See, he could totally beat

him, except for that one time when he was roasted

alive. Okay, the DC continuity to me is effed

up. I go off of the DC Animated Universe. Oh

wow. Bring it, people. I'm not even a DC fan

and that hurt me. Wow. Oh, that's hysterical.

It's like, I'm sorry, there wasn't some, like,

thematic music over it, so it doesn't count.

But I can't be mad because I've spent most of

my day reading X -Men comic books, so if there's

a convoluted universe, I know about it. So yeah,

that's, you know, Arkham Origins, great. I'm

pretty sure we probably won't talk about it again,

unless Sean Z picks it up and wants to talk about

it. It's probably gonna be a while. That's gonna

be one of those ones that... So, you covering

it in two different podcasts in one week is good?

We're good now? With Arkham, we can bury the

hatchet. I wanted to talk about it with you guys.

I know you did, but man, just spreading it out

across multiple podcasts. Maybe some of our listeners

already heard it once, they don't need to hear

it again. Fine. Go ahead. What do you got? I

have nothing. I really haven't played anything

new. I guess the one thing I can talk about is

how excited I am about my new class in ghosts.

Oh yeah. So I did probably one of the worst possible

things that you could do when you have a light

machine gun is I turned it into a speed class.

So one of the biggest guns in the game is called

the chainsaw. When you pull it up to like look

in the site alls you literally do is kind of

pick it up a little bit more It's literally walking

around with a giant mounted turret like that

has no sights on it So accuracy based weapons

what you're saying, oh god no um So it's it's

a big clunky gun so of course What do I do? I

put muzzle on it, which increases the distance

of my shots. And then I put this. Yeah. And then

I put full metal jacket on it. So when I'm missing

everything, I'm shooting through every single

wall in the entire map. And then I miss you,

but the innocent bystander three miles away.

And then I put sit rep on it so I could see all

the bad things in level. And then I tossed on.

Slight of hand so I can reload super fast and

then I put light weight. How big is the clip

or the belt I'm assuming for this right? Big

enough. I need more. But big enough if you have

to reload it takes a good 30 seconds to reload

the weapon. With slight of hand it takes less

than five seconds to reload. And then I put light

weight on so I move real fast and then I put

marathon on. So I'm running, running, running,

running, running around the level. And then I'm

just unloading the weapon. Every corner I come

across and just ripping people off of their feet

as I'm going around corners. Now don't get me

wrong. It's not the most accurate weapon. It's

I'm fine with it. It's also, um, I died a lot.

That's fine. But I was the most obnoxious and

annoying person on the entire match. So you could

just imagine the other people fucking do with

the chainsaw again. Like I'm walking down the

middle of the map, literally just unloading the

weapon into buildings, not even knowing if people

are there getting random kills because people

are running past the building. Just pissing people

off left and right. Like we lost the match. But

I was such a disturbance in the match that it

was well worth everything I put into it. And

then on top of that, I haven't tested it out,

but I finally put a secondary on there to make

it more annoying. And I put rocket launchers

with it. So I'm guaranteed to piss everybody

off when I'm using that class, which will be

the main. I will probably use it only on domination.

Can you just utterly rip apart like air support

with that gun? Yes. One clip takes down a helicopter

easily with the gun. I haven't even used the

rocket launchers. So yeah, I'm looking forward

to really, really pissing people off. That is

my main goal is to use that class to pretty much

shit on everybody's parade. So, yeah, seems like

a you thing to do. It is, it is a me thing to

do. I'm looking forward to the next time me and

Powers play. It'll be fun. It reminds me, the

class you made actually reminds me of playing

with Jason when Modern Warfare first came out.

He would use, what was it, the RPD? Oh, I love

the RPD. Looks like a big, huge -looking AK with

a drum. Yeah, he would use the RPD and go and

spray sniper nests. Like just shooting through

the walls and everything to kill things I used

the RPD with a Grip and double tap so fired twice

as fast Eventually, I'm pretty sure I will make

class Called balls to the wall when my accuracy

drops below 50 % John has the lowest out of all

of us with like 2 % And I'm pretty sure I got

2 % now with that weapon the the nice thing though

that I've also thought about doing is well one

of the things You know, we play ghosts a lot

But one of the reasons I don't live stream ghost

as much as I live stream other things is everybody

live stream not no Well, I probably could get

more I'd probably get more watchers if we were

live streaming Ghosts. The only problem is, I

would be a very boring person to watch play Ghosts.

Oh look, there's a bush. Maybe I should be the

one who's streaming it. You probably should.

So that's why I don't live stream Ghosts, but

one of the nice things about the PlayStation

Network is they don't charge you for individual

gamer tags. I've thought about making a another

tag And just going out and making a balls to

the wall class Running around like a or I could

just sign it with Ali's tag Doesn't care she's

never gonna play she played with us played my

offer to yeah, that's one time I still remember

that. And she's like, and I'm done. I think she

even said something like, Mike, why aren't you

moving? Oh, that's the one thing I did want to

say. I got to play Call of Duty Ghosts on a PS3

this week and it was terrible. The graphics.

The current gens are just dog shitty. Graphics

are fucking terrible. Like they're so bad. I

was I got to the point where I played two matches

and I looked at the guys I was playing with and

I go I can't play this this have you I'm sorry.

It just looks terrible I'm like I don't want

to see I I never thought I would get to the point

where I was just like I'm sorry The graphics

aren't good enough for me to play this game anymore.

I had to ask have you ever felt more snot nose

in your life? Just imagine you know I have not

because I just I looked at Andy it was like Silly

like I don't sound like a dick, but I can't play

this because it graphically is inferior for some

reason I just are you like pinching the controller

between your thumb and index finger like No I

go I can't figure out the controls because it's

The triggers are reversed on the PS3 version

because that's how, you know, it is on the PS3.

Your firing is your R1 and your grenade or your

aim is your L1 and it's reversed. It's wrong.

And it feels and I was like, I can't. Number

one, this looks like crap. I can't play it. And

number two, I can't play it because it's going

to screw up my game on PS4 because I don't want

to get used to these controls. And yes, I felt

like it. elitist asshole when I was over there

and I was like, can we play Grand Theft Auto

5 now? I wish I could have seen that. For some

reason, I reminded myself of you in that situation.

I don't know if I should take offense to that

or not. Well, it's only because I think you're

elitist douchebag in the nicest way. I'm not

going to take offense to that because I have

a lot of nice shit. You do so But yeah, I wow

I wish I could have been there for that because

that would have been hilarious Speaking of Grand

Theft Auto I Pulled the trigger on capture hardware

for video gums But it gums did you really are

you just saying it like a guy goes now gums video

gums I know that I picked it up from somewhere,

but I've been saying since like the PlayStation

came out. I don't know. Is that a Rebel FM thing?

I think so. Probably. I listen to that podcast

a lot. Me too. It's a good podcast. It is. They're

doing their Music Spectacular right now, which

I wish I had the I wish I had the know how to

do that. To do. I'm sorry. I toned out what we're

talking about. Every year, Rebel FM does a music

podcast. It's about the music in video game.

Yeah, and they they splice in the music from

the actual games So like say they're talking

about the halos that very orcish, you know Whatever

that word is orchestra. I've been drinking Okay,

let's make this more relevant with something

that matters. Let's say we were talking about

gone home We would play like some of the music

from gone home Okay And it ends up actually being

really cool. And they do it just for that year

in video games. So they're recording that one

tonight or tomorrow or something like that. But

I wish I had the... Maybe we should try and do

something like that next year or something like

that. Just kind of keep track of some of the

games that had the music that we actually liked.

Anyways, yeah, I picked up the Elgato Game Capture

HD. So, yeah, that's what Ali keeps saying to

the cat. But it isn't like, is Elgato for it

to be the cat? That's E -L space G -A -T -O,

right? I don't know Spanish. I didn't even know

Elgato. It is E -L -G -A -T -O. All is one word

or with a space? With a space so that's the cat.

It's a duck hat, but this device is just el gato

like there is no space So I don't even know if

it's well, then it's I Don't know anyways, it's

ELG ATO no space I Pulled the trigger on it last

Thursday. I did one day shipping. I got it for

Friday. I actually um streamed the final like

Probably our I had of Arkham Origins And then

Sunday night Joe and I streamed some of our Grand

Theft Auto online shenanigans It's a pretty neat

little device I will say Right now it's a little

a little tricky to use because the You have to

use a special cable with the PlayStation 3 Because

they don't allow recording over HDMI Like it

won't handshake with the device, so you have

to use the old AV port. Well, at least that makes

no sense. Well, the reason being is because you

could also play Blu -ray movies on it, and they

didn't want people to be able to record Blu -ray

movies. If I were to plug it into the 360, the

360's HDMI port is unencrypted. So I can get

my video games off of there just as they are

through an HDMI port. Luckily there really isn't

when you're streaming everything. It doesn't

really look that much different on my TV It's

a little bit fuzzier just because it's not it's

like it's not an HDMI connection Okay, so it's

just Not as high lip resolution. No, it's still

like 1080. It's still 1080p, but it's not Like

1080p with an HDMI cable. It's kind of hard to

explain unless you're like looking right at it

But on a stream it doesn't you can't you can't

even tell on a stream So that that was pretty

nice. I've heard the one guy that we've been

able to get to watch both streams Which is TFG1

Mike from Geocast radio. He said there was some

one dude there was some Issues and I'm not sure

if that was from my end or if it was from his

because When I stream I have my twitch window

open on my computer so I can actually see the

stream like as well I can see how much like lag

there is and just watch the chat conversation

Which for the record there is none There was

that one time you played FTL Yeah, I've had I've

had some success like there was I've had some

success with Need for Speed Rivals FTL War Thunder

was a pretty good one Anyways, I don't know if

it was like if it's his computer is internet

connection But there were like some buffering

issues which I don't think are present with the

stream when I stream from the PlayStation 4 but

regardless Taking requests if anyone wants to

see Something I'm probably gonna go try and go

back to like my backlog. I was thinking maybe

playing I go or set of the classes on a stream

So yeah, no, it's just cuz you can I'm trying

to think of what good Yes, well I can also do

like some 360 games like I said, I just can't

do any you know dead space Oh God Only like what

okay when you're streaming can they hear you

cuz I they have to be able to hear you That would

be that would make it interesting just watching

someone play dead space not so good watching

someone play dead space and hearing them shit

their pants hysterical War Thunder is coming

to the ps4. I'm watching the Twitter feed while

we're doing this so I can see everything War

Thunder is us. Yeah War Thunder is already out

on the PS4 in Europe, so it's only a matter of

time before it hits here. I know, it's only...

No, but the capture device is really neat because

it also allows me to actually capture game footage,

and apparently there's a way to capture standard

definition game footage, so if I ever come out

to Grand Rapids again and we're in Joe's basement,

we can actually capture video game footage. Like

with a pass through. The device is actually the

device is really tiny. It's about the size of

my About the size of my phone So it's it's really

it's really portable and it's really easy to

hook up like I had it ready to go in like Two

minutes after I took it out of the box. I was

kind of impressed It's surprising how long you

know, everything you take without it takes about

two minutes to get ready. I'm saying There's

a lot of prep work that goes into it before I

open the box Then 30 seconds later he is spent

so but yeah, no we can I'm there's also a way

obviously I can record my gameplay now which

I haven't done any of that yet to try editing

video footage, but There may be YouTube videos

if they're not taken down As all video game footage

is being taken off YouTube at the moment Just

cuz it can be they started some new content thing

Where it's automatically what is it if you don't

have rights to the yeah, it's automatically getting

flagged But a lot of like game publishers and

stuff are coming forward and saying they have

nothing to do with it If we're having if you're

having problems with it, give us a give us a

holler and we'll fix it Because like game developers

and publishers realize the benefit of YouTube.

Yeah. Yeah, you show your game I watch it say

that looks cool. I should go get that game to

Free it's your it's free advertisement. You're

getting stuff in the internet. You have to pay

for All right, Sean Z. What do you got? Ah, nothing

really for your Assassin's Creed for update this

week. Um. I'm getting to the point where I'm

just about ready to start taking on legendary

ships. I thought you said you were getting to

the point where you're just about done with the

game. No, no, no, no, no, no. I keep I'm progressing

through the actual story very slowly. Only enough

when it's like to tip. Still I still haven't

gotten their open art. I've you know, I've put

some few more hours into I'm still Haven't gotten

all of the unlocks for your base characters.

So, I mean there's I'm I don't even know how

much of the game is left I've met like 45 % but

I'm playing the shit of that game now Do you

have plans to pick up the freedom cry DLC that

came out this week? Um, I you know what? I'm

so skittish Because have I was I didn't think

I didn't play this but AC3 is the whatever it

was the George Washington. The tyranny of King.

Yes, George George. How shitty that was. Well,

I the reports for Freedom Cry are really good.

I don't I probably won't play it. If I do get

it, I'll wait till after at this. I read some

stuff today and it actually continues the storyline.

Yeah. And this at a while becomes an assassin

and gets his own ship and. You get to basically

go around freeing slaves from all the plantations

And it sounds like you do now it's yeah instead

of yeah And it sounds really cool because if

you get detected when you're on the plantations,

they start executing all the slaves If they see

you so you have to be incredibly sneaky and you

need to you're building an army So the more people

you save the bigger your army becomes So I thought

that was it sounds really interesting there the

reviews have been Said it was probably one of

it's one of those DLCs where it's worth buying

Yeah, but I didn't know if that was the only

single -player DLC that's coming out Everything

else is just multiplayer because if that's the

case I don't I probably wouldn't buy the season

pass and I would just spend the ten bucks on

that because I could give I Could care less about

the multiplayer and assassins Well, at this point,

I think Sean's you should just save his money

for a PS4. That will happen eventually, but.

Do you think you're going to get liberation when

it comes to Xbox Live? I don't know. You know

what? It hasn't. Oh, my God, piqued my interest

enough. I don't think. No, it's like I might

get it. It might be one of those ones where it's

like I'm sitting there just looking at it like,

eh, I'll try it. Or I might just look at it and

be like, OK, that's there. I don't know. I have

no plans to buy it. OK. There's still so many

things I want to get on current gen. I still

want to play XCOM, Enemy Within. Oh, yeah, that's

a thing. It's a thing that you don't care about.

It's did you ever you didn't play XCOM. Did you

last one? No, I snagged it off of PlayStation

Plus, but you should try playing it. It's. That's

a good screw around game. You need to be super

awake to play that game because, oh, my God,

if you're the slightest bit tired, you'll be

asleep with it. Oh, you can. Maybe I should stream

it. Just make sure you name your guys funny shit.

Think of it like, like. What was that? What was

that game you were talking about? Was that um

FTL where you can name people? Yeah, it's like

that. I would name them you guys and then I would

feel bad when you die and Then I would try no

what I would do is I would just would next guy

recruited I would just make him look just like

you would name him the same thing like hey he's

back He lost all this stuff. Oh, he went retarded

after his last incident Probably getting shot

in the face by an alien makes you lose the brain

cells Did when you get the the the half ass clones

back? Do you just call them bitch versions of

a bitch? Mike but yeah, but how do you differentiate

bitch Mike from regular Mike well They come back

slightly damaged and retarded. I just figured

yeah, but if they're Because we don't pick on

you enough Mike look at your look at your look

at your picture that you're using for your pro.

Oh, wait a second There's a reason we don't pick

on you because you could just drop us off the

podcast Better recognize don't to me before you

can do pick on me make me slip my wrists even

faster I Don't think you wait on that box by

the way I don't think anything will make you

slip your wrists faster with the amount of fast

food you eat It's gonna be a slow process. Yeah,

it would come out like molasses at this. Yes

It's more like Wendy's chili. I honestly wouldn't

know. I've never had Wendy's chili. Whoa. Wait,

you've never had Wendy's chili? No. You're missing

out, my friend. What is wrong with you? What

other fast food items have you never had before?

Hold on. Are you yelling at me for not having

a particular fast food item? Yes, I am. Have

you ever had chicken nuggets? You really are

a fucking slow mic. Have you had a frosty? Yeah,

you dip it in the frosty. Dip what in the frosty?

The chicken nuggets, man. Oh, gross. You dip

the fries in the frosty, you freak. You do both

of them. No, no, no. Yes. No, you do not. Next

time you go, get a goddamn frosty. Just dip it

in one and you're going to eat it. And after

you get through the orgasm in your mouth, you

will understand what I'm talking about. Ah, frostian.

I Mean don't get me wrong. I know it all mixes

together and all makes poop eventually, but ah

Frosty and chicken nuggets this sounds terrible

Dipping a potato into the chocolate goodnesses

is totally okay their fries are terrible. It

makes it better Their fucking nuggets are horrible,

too Wendy's No, they're not! Yes, they are! You're

wrong, sir. They are if they're dipped in Frosty.

No, there's no such thing as a good Chicken McNugget

or Chicken Nugget in general. You are wrong.

If you can squeeze meat into a form like that,

it cannot be good. You are so wrong, sir. I am

not. Do you really? If anybody is used to squeezing

meat into a form, it would be you. I will fight

you all day long about fast food. I love fast

food. Yeah, this is the skinniest guy Yeah, don't

bring that over here. I love me some chicken

nuggets. It's so good. My name is Mike. I have

a high metabolism Looks like Joe's trying to

download gone home because it went on sale again.

I Saw his uh his message trying to get us to

join us He's his laptops gonna explode apparently

he's using the computer right now. He should

be able to oh, yeah Piece of shit an ass text

him and say he's an ass for talking to us Yeah,

so he wanted to get his you could learn ukulele

so he could be a hipster douchebag, but it looks

like he's already there I Told him all ZD. He

was like oh, I might become a hipster when I

do take my lessons I was like dude you bought

the ukulele you're already there a shave to be

a hipster No, you don't you don't have to shave

with the fedoras no go into any coffee shop ever

I guess look for whoever's sitting down on the

laptop Right there if that's him. He needs a

he needs a hat Yes, but he's one of those wolfers

head. He's one of those wool pork pie hats He

could borrow my my Jane's hat from firefly like

everyone from attacking me to attacking Joe Joe's

not here. Oh, man. So fast food. And now I'm

texting him. Why, you know, podcast. I'm Facebook

messaging. I'm too. Why you know podcast? We

need more lemon pledge. And then I'm going to

go. It's my birthday. Why aren't you here? You

didn't get me anything. It's my birthday. We

were talking about video games no, we're talking

about fast food way to change the subject I Well,

there's obviously Sean doesn't eat fast food.

I just got done eating two big Kings. So Nobody

who eats fast food likes Burger King. I like

Burger King that they were true for five. Okay,

hold on. All right Who here has had the triple

whopper? That's a thing yes like I didn't see

it on the men I've had it is that like is that

like one of those weird things like when you

go to Taco Bell and get them to put the nachos

taco inside that you look inside the No, sir.

Well at least here in Flint well obviously Flint

town It was the number three on the value many

because number one was is the whopper number

two is the double whopper number three was the

triple whopper I Think our schools whopper whopper

jr. Yeah, maybe Jesus maybe hasn't made up to

Hickville where I live yet, so I mean As dinner

have you ever had the busy banging it so I've

never gone beyond a double okay? Who here has

had the what is it them at Wendy's the three

the one with the three patties? The triple yeah,

I wasn't like I like a third like a quarter pound

like a third pound or something like that How

did I become the smallest fat ass here all of

a sudden? Wasn't it the beefenator? No, you're

thinking of the baconator. There's the baconator.

And then there's the son of baconator. But there's

the one. There's like the there's the single.

Yeah, there's a single double triple. You're

right. The triple. Back in the day. Yes. Have

you ever done it, Sean? The triple from Wendy's?

No. I refuse. I can top. Well, this isn't a fast

food. I've done the thing where you go to the

steakhouse and they're like, if you can finish

this steak in an hour, I've done that. That explains

so much. Say whatever you want. I don't think

you're supposed to follow that up with several

times. Several times. Not in a row. I'm sorry.

It's a challenge. You must have meet challenges.

Does anyone, does anybody remember the Arch Deluxe

from McDonald's? What'd you say Dan I remember

it I've never had it so the MBX you remember

the MBX I Remember it never had Arch Deluxe turned

into the MBX and then the MBX got folded into

I think it just got discontinued Too many get

little kids died. So so good. Oh, please Can't

say the little kids dad. I didn't die from it.

I loved it All right Seriously, you eat worse

than I do. How is this possible? We can't guilt

him into joining us. What a jerk face. He used

to be jerk face. If I wasn't worried about getting

fined, I would say we should end this show by

singing Happy Birthday to Danner. Why would we

get fined? Because because it's expensive for

rights to have a birthday. Happy birthday is

public domain. No, it's not. It was. Nope. So

no, no, no, what we got to do is you got to sing

like the restaurant versions that they get away

with, like happy, happy birthday, happy, happy

birthday, happy, happy birthday to you. No, I

wish I had like one of those party blower things

where it's like, if you were blowing anything,

it would definitely be a party. OK, I think we've

chewed up. Well, got to make money somehow. How

do you think I'm paying for the next time we've

chewed up enough time at the end of this podcast?

Yeah, this podcast did end like 20 minutes ago,

didn't it? Awesome. So we are taking nominees

for the Off the Cuff 2013 Game of the Year Awards.

We've received several of them. At least I hope

Dan has gotten them. They have to be from this

year. I'm getting to that. Calm down. Steve Megatron.

Oh, some other people did that too. Now? No.

Here's the question. What about game of the year

collections that were released this year to those

count or do you go back to when the original

vanilla game came out? The vanilla game, okay,

right. So like someone put Starcraft 2 on their

list. No The second one did Starcraft 2 Yes,

it came. It's episodic. Really? Yeah, they released

Did it? Yes, um wings of Liberty or whatever.

It was was the Terran one that came out last

year But the Heart of the Swarm just came out

this year. Oh, yeah. But they so they can't so

they have to just take that separate. It's not

just Starcraft. OK, I'm sorry. I guess I think

it's because he said just Starcraft or he said

Starcraft two and not like the title underneath

it. I knew what he meant. Whatever. That's why

I'm filing the list because it's his birthday

and he knows everything. Yeah, this is the only

day he knows everything. Tomorrow he becomes

dumb as a rock. Reverts back to dumb as a rock

you mean so Yeah, the games have to be from January

1st 2013 to December 31st 2013 Please pick five

the order matters as we've said as is in the

pope really and Because now that shows up that

actually comes on the audio now, thank you Wait,

whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. The chime came over the

audio chime. From what? Why? Why do you whatever?

I have not my problem that you have your Facebook

open anyway. Yeah, I issue anyways. Pick your

top five games from 2013. Any video game is fine.

The order matters this time. Number one is worth

five points and number five is worth one point.

After taking a sneak peek at the submissions

because Steve has been sending them to me. I

have very high hopes that My game will get Also

people if you're gonna start spamming Saints

Row 4 now is the time Cuz I'm gonna start man,

I'm gonna start making fake email addresses now

now and you're just gonna put Since row fourth

for one through five No, it's gonna be sensor

for um sensor for sensor for sensor four and

then i'm gonna throw a random fifth game in there

And then i'm gonna ha not just kidding so it's

real four Don't worry anything that has since

row four on the list at all is automatically

being thrown out zero zero points. That's racist

Yeah, racist against states row four. Yes, I

am I'm just not going to take the risk of the

fact that I assume that anything that comes through

with Saints Row 4 on the top five list will be

shot. Well, you know, there are those that want

us to do top five worst games. The worst. And

Saints Row 4 has been brought up multiple times

on the forums. Which I'll lie and say multiple

times just because Sean doesn't read the forums,

you know, let us know in the comment again I

can't read there's none All right. So if you

us to do like the game of the year for the console,

like specific consoles and stuff like that. It's

plenty of life. I don't just try to liven it

up. I'm just trying to see what people want.

I'm just dipping. I'm dipping my toe in the water.

I want to see what people want We don't have

to do it. We don't have to do it this year, but

it's stuff so we can grow maybe Stop playing

to the masses Mike man. Just make a damn decision

I'm gonna say this now cuz I don't know when

this is probably gonna be you know you Screw

you This is probably gonna be in my list. I haven't

decided yet since row for but the console no

console Diablo 3 Came out this year, you know,

I think yes, we've already been over this and

Stop. Yes accounts the council versions come

out. Yes. I'm sorry, dude Were you going over

it in the forums because those don't count to

me No, we mean Mike had a personal conversation

away from anybody. So you know the Basically

comes down to the people that make decisions

for off the cops have already talked about this.
