I'm your host, Michael Powers. I'm joined this
week by Art Danner. Hi. And by Joe Reed. Hello
there, Radio Land. Holy shit, you're way too
awake. Sean Z is working, so he's not going to
be here tonight. And as we confirmed off the
show, there will be 100 percent less dick jokes.
Actually, there can't be 100 percent less because
I just made one. So enough cocking around already
um So Danner Yes, why don't you tell us about
Disney Xfinity? Oh I'll be more than happy to
tell you about the great money suck of 2013 I
have I know nothing about this outside of watching
or reading a penny arcade cartoon. Is this like
the new Skylanders? Yes It is It is Skylanders
meets Minecraft with Disney Huh, that is what
it is it pretty much from what you know, I've
known of Skylanders pretty much kind of out Skylanders
Skylanders Because it's just it's Let me get
my my wits about me and think of how I want to
present this you've only had since Sunday to
think about this Yeah, I've only had it since
Sunday, but we've put like Graydon's put like
maybe 14 hours into the game since Sunday Slacker
yeah, I know he's working his way to be a real
gamer one of these days So basically what does
the infinity is is it's a much like Skylanders
it comes with the portal it's got a spot where
you can put two characters on and Then there
is a hexagon shape spot on the portal which is
where your World crystal crystals go. I don't
know what the exact terms are. I'll just making
this shit up as we go But your world crystals
go in the hexagon When you get your world crystals
they go in there and they unlock certain universes
within the game in Which certain characters can
exist? So say you put the crystal that comes
with the game in there you get the opportunity
to go into the universes of the Incredibles Monsters
University and Pirates of the Caribbean Now The
characters from those specific franchises can
only go to those specific worlds. So far? Nope.
Ever. Ever. That's where I think the shortcoming
is in this. And that's also where I think the
shortcoming is. That's the one thing I liked
about Skylanders. But they have Toy Box. Which
Toy Box is essentially Minecraft. Where all the
characters can exist. everything you do in all
the action adventure portions of the game unlock
items within that world and you can customize
buildings in those worlds but anything you unlock
in those worlds becomes unlocked in toy box through
a roulette system correct no anything you collect
in those systems is there but there's other stuff
in a roulette system that you can earn and you
get points throughout the games that give you
spins on the roulette system and there's like
over a thousand items that you can spin through
the roulette system and unlock other stuff on
top of the stuff you already unlocked in the
other worlds what kinds of things are you unlocking
um so far i've unlocked um Like enemy classes
in toy box, which are the royal guards from the
Aladdin movie you can also unlock the another
enemy set which is the Rhino guards from Robin
Hood the animated movie And then there is vehicles
from certain movies that you can unlock to race
around on there's oh my god I'm on a Tron light
cycle huh well I've unlocked there's like many
characters that populate the world that are not
like they're really really short many kind of
shades of like what the actual characters are
that you play as in the game so they kind of
you know You don't get confused with the main
characters and they populate the universe, which
I've unlocked the Tron figures. I've unlocked
the Disney princesses so far. And then like in
the Monsters University section, you can actually
pick up the monsters and then throw them into
a monster customizer where you can actually go
through and customize all the characters that
are in that world. So, I mean, it's basically
all. based on creativity and what you want to
do I mean it's it's the action adventure portions
are cool for the kids but the toy box is awesome
for like me because then you can go in and you
can make land you can change the sky you can
put new buildings in you can make a racetrack
you can make a paintball range there is also
booster packs that you get Which are for five
bucks you get a sealed pack and you get two booster
discs in the pack and they can be Power -ups
for your characters or they can be unlocks for
the toy box Some of the unlocks I've gotten so
far with those are The Toy Box world there's
a Finding Nemo skyline so basically you put the
Finding Nemo skyline on the portal and It basically
changes the entire skyline so that the entire
toy box world is underwater And then there's
other things like some of the other toys that
I've unlocked for toy box are Mulan's horse that
I dropped that in and a horse will appear right
in front of me Another one is Stitch's Blasters,
which are basically muck guns. They can go around
and shoot other people in the world and just
muck them up. And so there's just little, little
itty bitty add -ons, microtransactions without
being. It's basically built almost like a free
game in an iPad. I was making a comparison Good
comparison, but it was a comparison. I believe
it's free to play on iOS. It is free to play
on iOS, but anything you buy Anything you buy
You get a card with and you can input that with
your ID and anything you purchase Unlocks in
the iOS version Wait, wait. So what systems are
this on? It's done PS3 we we you 360 There's
a PC version, there's a 3DS version, and then
there's the iOS version. All the little booster
packs compatible with all the different versions?
Yes. All the characters and all the booster packs
are compatible with every single system. The
only thing is probably the game disc. That's
the only thing that literally goes. I think even
the portals are USB for all the systems, I think.
Which I don't think that would work with the
3DS. The 3DS one has to be... 3ds is ir which
is annoying unless unless they did something
different than what skylanders did the skylanders
one is ir and if you don't if you're not pointing
it directly at the portal like your you can't
swap out and it's annoying to swap out characters
on the 3ds now i did buy it on the ps3 which
if anybody's been following things on twitter
um the ps3 version the 1 .01 update which came
out at day of the moment you went into toy box
it crashed your system now crash the system like
bricked it or just crash the game to the dashboard
crash the game to the dashboard but if you back
out to the dashboard the system would crash and
reset okay yikes Like you could exit, like get
to the option, which even when my system's frozen
before, you don't usually get, or you can hit
the center button and then go to quit. And then
it tries to quit out and then it just resets.
Which I've had games where that's just legitimately
just frozen and you can't get out. There's nothing
you can do except for hard reset your system.
Yeah, I've experienced that too. Yes, and then
it's gonna do the boot disk thing which is fucking
nerve -wracking. Boot disk. Where it's basically
gotta go to system recovery mode and it's gonna
check your files and make sure nothing's damaged
and it takes like 20 minutes and then... You
could possibly lose game saves and that good
stuff. That I've never seen. Every single time
I've had to hard reset my system, it's done that.
So here's my question that will determine whether
or not I hate this game or I think it's kind
of cool. When you go by the booster pack and
you set it on the thing is it actually Installing
stuff or is all of that crap already on the disk
and you're paying for the right to unlock it
I think you're paying for the right to unlock
it Yeah, it the what the the there's an alright
There is an RFID tag in each of the characters
and presumably the cards yes that tells the system
that it's okay to use that stuff now the interesting
thing and i don't know that this is the like
i read an article about this whole patch thing
and people saves being erased and having to reset
their characters the and i haven't i haven't
done that but i waited long enough to actually
be able to play it i didn't open it until the
Almost the I didn't open it until after the kids
went to bed on Sunday because I wanted to try
it out so I knew how to work it before I I taught
them to play and I Had read all this stuff that
there was issues beforehand, so I Disconnected
my ps3 from the internet and played it that way
for the first couple days Until I knew there
was some sort of resolution which the resolution
was is delete 1 .01 You're gonna have to delete
your game saves and start over again Where I
never updated to 1 .01 So I never had to delete
my game saves so on Tuesday morning they deleted
1 .01 out of their system So even when you logged
on there was no update anymore So I could have
finally log in online, which sunk up everything
with my Disney account and all my game saves
went right through and I didn't lose any data
at all from any of the time granted to me and
put into the game, which I could care. In my
opinion, yes, some people were getting upset
about the fact that they had to restart and go
through the intro again. I have kids. I'm so
used to them just going in and starting the game
and ignoring the fact that there's save files
in the first place. This shit doesn't bother
them. That is not an issue to us. Well, the only
reason I'm curious about that is because with
Skylanders, the character information is saved
in the character. Yeah. So like if I wanted to
like hypothetically... The game saves are saved
in the system. The only thing I think the...
I mean, you can't access any of the game saves
for specific parts of the game unless you have
the game crystal in for that specific section
of the game. Now, do the characters level up?
Yes. But is that saved to the character statue?
Because what I'm saying is with Skylanders, if
I have a level 15 Night Elf, I can take that
level 15 Night Elf over to a friend that has
the game and put my character on the portal and
I get my level 15 Night Elf with all of its skills
unlocked. I'm gonna be honest. I haven't looked
into it that closely So, I mean that's one of
the things I liked about is like because you
can kind of I mean if you see if if you want
to be like an asshole about it You could actually
like buy them and like, you know us who play
video games We could like level up characters
really fast and then you could turn around and
sell like a level 15 Character statue. Yeah statue.
Um Now i'm i'm curious because I know that the
wii u version of skylanders giants was the best
one there was And i'm wondering if they if it's
the same with um Disney infinity because all
of the character information showed up on the
tablet screen which was pretty cool which was
really really neat um of course we don't know
that because you know I don't have my Wii U anymore
and you don't have one so correct the one thing
I did find annoying was you can't and which I
didn't I didn't know this and I'm not gonna lie
I didn't put a Shit load of research into this
before I bought it. It was kind of on a whim
I was planning on buying it until Janelle was
like, oh Disney infinity comes out today because
I'd kind of been I've mentioned it and talked
about it for like the last six months is like
This would be you know when this comes out. This
would be a great thing for the kids Side note
is we're a huge Disney family. We go to Disney
all often every couple years We've always been
big into Disney. The kids are big into Disney.
It's kind of you know, it's a thing in our family
That's why this you know, like above Skylanders
kind of spoke to us It felt more geared towards
the taste that we have as a family Also, I learned
how terribly of an obsessive compulsive personality
I have when it comes to collecting games and
I realized why I don't play magic the gathering
anymore or Why I'm glad I'd never actually fully
gotten the hero clicks because fucking hell I
have 13 characters already I didn't know they
had that many there's more than that. So I'm
foreshort of having the full run of what's out
and then there's two exclusive figures that are
out there that one you could only get at d23,
which is the the Mickey Mouse figure Which is
going for about 800 bucks on eBay right now Yikes,
and then there's an exclusive paint job of lightning
McQueen and Toys R Us which those are the only
two exclusives that they've released so far and
the only way to have Mickey for the game right
now is to have gone to D23 You can't even get
D23 D23 is their Conference or like their con
that Disney does okay it's their big unveiling
of all the new stuff that's coming out from disney
and like new theme parks like they announced
the fact they're making avatar land now and the
fact they're making star wars land so that's
they do their big unveils for the parks and other
interactive disney stuff that's going on um but
i had to go out and buy more characters in each
of the lands because it comes The game system
comes with Mr. Incredible, Jack Sparrow, and
Sully, which is one character that can be played
in each of the lands. You can't do multiplayer
except for in Toy Box with those characters.
Now, when they release the separate game packs,
they come with two characters and the crystal
to unlock those worlds. So, Target had them for
50 % off the week they came out, so I bought
the Cars world and I bought the Lone Ranger world.
So it comes with, the Cars world comes with Holly
from Cars 2 and Lightning McQueen and then the
crystal to unlock the Cars universe, which the
Cars universe is all racing. It's a lot of fun.
I hate racing games, but I love this. But I also
know Mike has a profound hate for cars in general.
Where I have kids that are of the age that enjoy
it so I've been subjected to it To the point
where I almost have to be okay with it But it's
favorite Pixar movie yeah, I find the Cars world
to be immensely fun and really humorous and kind
of cool The Lone Ranger pack however haven't
even opened it so one thing I haven't opened
since I bought it Because the kids don't know
who the fuck the Lone Ranger is I have no idea.
I'll probably play it eventually. But the unfortunate
thing about that is, yeah, you bought those things,
but it's just weird because you didn't open the
Lone Ranger one, but if the characters were cross
-play, would you have opened the Lone Ranger
one to at least try them out in another world?
Probably not. Because I mean technically I could
pick them up and use them in the toy box, but
I Just really haven't they've been playing Monsters
Inc and the Incredibles so much on There that
they just really haven't had interest in the
other stuff. They've barely touched cars And
they played they played pirates and cars the
first day we really had it out and but it's primarily
just been Monsters is what they've been playing
a lot of Be bothering you guys that the contents
on the disk, but you're paying to unlock it like
that used to light people on fire back in the
day Yeah back in the day, but I've also you know,
I I know what Skylanders is and I'm aware of
I'm aware of what it is. It's basically what
it comes down to I know what the money grab is
and it's acceptable to me. Yeah, but I've And
so I'm assuming what will happen is they'll come
out with like two gig updates when the next wave
of figures comes out it'll download everything
no here's here's what's good joe this is probably
where we're gonna lose you so there's a section
in the game called hall of heroes in the hall
of heroes you can anything you've gotten in the
game like unlocks and you get a statue of it
in the game and you can see every single statue
and pedestal and every single game there's a
game description and a video for every single
character that is going to be released in the
first wave of release so I know every single
character that's going to come out because there's
statues of them in the game so I already know
there's going to be a Wreck -It Ralph pack Because
Wreck -It Ralph and Penelope Von Sweets are in
there which aren't available yet. I know there's
going to be a Rapunzel pack for Tangled because
Rapunzel is a statue in there or as a pedestal
in there You don't get the statues until you
actually own the characters I know there's going
to be a Nightmare Before Christmas pack. They've
already announced the Toy Story and Space pack
coming in October, which they'll release buddy
Buzz Woody and Jesse and then the Toy Story game
piece so you can actually play the Toy Story
part and There's no apparent Evidence that it
could be patched to be made bigger. I'm waiting
for like the the Marvel expansion or Star Wars
I think they can eventually do that, but I think
they they have a plan I think for the first year
of release it's That's not exactly how it worked
with Giants. It's how it's working with SwapForce,
though. What they're doing with SwapForce, first
of all, is they have a... What will happen with
Infinity is next year, if it does well, which
apparently it is, next year there will be a new
one. And they'll either sell a disc... just so
you can just play the disc and you can use all
your same characters and the stuff and the portal
that you have at home or they'll do something
completely radical like allow four people to
play at once and you'll have to buy a new portal
which means you'll have to spend $75 all over
again now from Skylanders 1 to Giants you could
use the same portal Now Skylanders Giants characters
did not work on the first Skylanders, but all
the characters that you bought for Skylanders
worked on Giants. Now with the Swap Force, what
they're doing is all the Skylanders 1 and the
Skylanders 2 will work in Swap Force. The reason,
supposedly, for the new portal is because there's
each... and the reason it's called Swap Force
is because the characters come in two pieces.
You can swap the bodies like the lower half and
the top half and you can make new characters
in the game So you connect two things together
and you throw them on the portal and then you
get like a guy that can fly and Throws fire or
something. I don't I don't really know how that
works But that's but everything that you have
will work They're just telling you that you need
to or you need a new portal in order to have
the new stuff But you can still use all your
old characters. The one discrepancy is Characters
in Skylanders 1 only went to level 10, and in
Skylanders 2, they go to level 15. And so what
they did is they did a lot of reissues with giants
of characters from the first game So you could
they would go to level 15 But they also added
in a lot of neat things like usually if there
was a rerelease of a character They added in
something extra like that character might light
up now when you put it on the stand like I've
got characters that when you put them on it's
not just the base of them that lights up like
there's their eyes light up or they're the flames
on them light up or something like that, so There's
there there's ways for them to make You know
tons of money on this but for me The dlc the
thing the sub being on the disc and having to
go out and buy something unlock it I think that's
a lot different than For some reason to me. It's
a lot different than paying five dollars for
like an unlock key I can pay five dollars and
I get like a little statue. That's actually pretty
freaking sweet And like I said all all of my
character information stays on that statue So
even though I have sold back my Wii U and I've
given back, you know all that stuff If I get
swap for is I can throw those characters in there
and I have they're they're still at level 15
So I get to keep all that stuff But plus I get
something tangible to either hold or display
for my five dollars versus like a hundred kilobyte
key Saying that I can Have access to content
and I guess it's different to if those little
things are saving your content The little statues
are I don't know. Apparently they're not doing
that on infinity I was going to say I haven't
paid enough attention to know if they do or not.
Well, I hope they do. That would be sweet. I
agree, especially with the 13 of them staring
at me girl. I don't even know if I have that
many Skylanders. Well, it's here's the problem.
I wouldn't have bought as much shit as I bought
if it wasn't for the fact that everybody seemed
to have a fucking sale on them. Because I bought
the game at Best Buy. Because it came with a
free booster pack holder Because that was the
best deal that I found but then Toys R Us was
doing a buy one get one half off everything for
the first week so I ended up going in there and
buying the sidekicks three pack and Then buying
the villains three pack because those were the
best deals So I got I spent 30 bucks on one three
pack, but then I only spent 16 on the other And
then right there you're at $116. Yeah, and it's
and the characters are 14 bucks apiece by themselves
So it made way more sense to buy the three packs
than to buy That right there that right there
is interesting Because the Giants and Skylanders
are $15 and the regular characters are like 10
But if all the Disney Infinity characters are
15, that's interesting Yeah, and then the boosters
are five bucks apiece Unless you bought them
at Toys R Us and then they were By one for $4
.99 you get a second for a buck Are the booster
things like one and done like you never have
to put it back on the pedestal So you can trade
them at school like trading cards or do you have
to keep putting them on the pedestal? You have
to keep putting them on the pedestal like the
power -ups are kind of cool But the toy box ones
are kind of bullshit The power -up ones are of
course are the harder ones to find that seems
kind of which they're the little circles What
you do is you take your character off you put
the circle down and then you put your character
on top of the circle And they get like a buff
Like I have a fix -it Felix Fix -it Felix is
golden hammer, which gives you a health buff
that right there sounds like their portal is
like the swap force portal Possibly because yeah,
you can put the boosters down and then put the
characters on top of the boosters and they get
added abilities But like I I you know, I I can't
knock I would never knock infinity because I
like Skylanders so well and it's I think my big
pull towards infinity was Like anything allowing
you to buy them. I was more so that I got an
Incredibles game And I could play a Syndrome,
which I'm horribly delighted by. Because that
was the whole reason I had to buy the Villains
3 pack, was the fact that it had Syndrome, Randall,
and Davy Jones. I could have given a crap about
Davy Jones and Randall, but I wanted Syndrome.
Do you want to talk about Killzone for the 10
minutes that you played it? Sure. So, the Killzone
Beta opened up to PlayStation Plus members. Next
week is going to open up to everybody. It's on
Vita. Joe, just so we can clarify that, since
you seemed confused earlier. Oh, yeah. It's not
the first first -person shooter to be released
on the Vita, but compared to Call of Duty Declassified,
it doesn't blow ass. It is gorgeous. Very beautiful,
beautiful looking game. There's only one map
in the beta. And the multiplayer is kind of interesting
because it's like three minutes, I want to say
it's like three minute rounds. It's five rounds
with three minute rounds and the objective changes
every single round. And you get You don't really
earn XP in the game you earn money so you get
money for kills But then also you have a playing
card aside to your character and if you die you
drop a playing card So if the enemy comes over
there and picks up the playing card they get
bonus money If you recover it you get bonus money,
so you can it's kind of like the dog tags and
call the duty And the more money you earn the
more weapons you can unlock the more ranks you
can unlock But it also when you play the single
-player mode any money you earn in the single
-player mode can be spent towards stuff for the
multiplayer mode And it's It's a little hard
to getting used to playing a first -person shooter
on that small of a screen because I'm not used
to doing it and It's It's it's a lot of it like
I said, I spent 10 minutes with it It's it's
a little hard getting used to the control out.
There's no for the multiplayer. There's no This
is how you do this. It's this is a beta They
throw you directly into a firefight and you got
to figure your shit out as you go There's been
some interesting cut touch control scenarios
because if somebody sneaks up on you and tries
to knife you if you happen to turn into it there's
a mini touch control thing that pops up that
if you Do the configuration that shows up on
the screen with your finger quick enough you
can actually block somebody coming up to silently
kill you and You kick them off and then that
stuns them and then you can shoot them Which
I thought that was kind of a cool a thing. They
also have it instead of like hitting a button
to swap your gun which you can do. They've basically
done workarounds for a lot of the buttons. Any
touch control thing that they put on there if
you don't want to use touch control there's a
physical button to do it as well which a lot
of the games in the early stages of the PS Vita
those options weren't there. Everything kind
of forced towards touch control in a lot of the
games, but there wasn't a physical button to
get around that because some people just don't
care for that. But there's a touch spot button
to quickly swap your weapons, but there's also
a button that you can swap your weapons. It's
positioned in such a place that it's very easy
It's easier to almost touch the screen than it
is to do the button swap And it's very off to
the side and kind of a part of your HUD and so
you don't really notice it, which was kind of
cool The and I didn't I only had two guns I haven't
Done enough played enough to unlock weapons any
meaningful weapons yet, but everybody has like
way fucking better weapons than me There's a
fucking sniper rifle slash rocket launcher in
the game That I was just getting my shit owned
by those guys know where Sorry, but where is
this because I looked for it. I Got it. I got
an email sent directly to me. Oh Okay, they had
a code in it If you tech check the PlayStation
Vita hub on the What the hell's that? The Vita
chant. I'm sorry the PlayStation Vita channel
on the PlayStation Store There isn't like a link
in there somewhere. I don't access anything for
the Vita on my PlayStation I do it all through
the Vita. Okay Well I went on to try and download
it so maybe I could attempt to play it or play
it with you and I ended up grabbing The Walking
Dead instead. Well, I know it opens, if you can't
get on, I know it opens publicly for one week
before the game drops next week. So we can at
least try it out for a week. I like it. I mean,
so far it's enjoyable, but I need to spend more
time with it before I can formulate an opinion.
I don't know if it's... Don't know if I'm so
hyped about it that I'm willing to run out and
spend 40 bucks in two weeks when it comes out
Does it play like kill zone? I've never played
a kill zone game before. Oh, okay. So that comparison
is lost on me Okay, which I heard today at work
that I need to play kill zone 3 because it's
really well done but uh We'll see about that.
I got some other games to get through. I think
I own both of them if you want to borrow them
I'll be okay with that Because if I if I actually
enjoy killzone 3 I might have to actually pick
up shadowfall for some reason It does not surprise
me that I own a game that I have not played I
Don't several games that I haven't played. I
have dragon age 2 which is still in the shrink
wrap and I've had it for about a year and a half
Okay, just keep it in event and 20 years 20 years
are we available for like eight dollars on a
virtual console? Yeah, you'll have you'll have
people who like physical objects. Oh, they're
shrink -wrapped. That's true That's like when
I sold those GameCube games that were shrink
-wrapped that I bought a GameStop that I never
played I was like hit these games are really
shitty games I wonder if I can get any money
for them on eBay and then I got like 40 bucks
a pop for all of them And I was like these were
not that good a games like battalion wars for
Christ sakes It was fucking terrible I sold that
for 40 bucks shrink -wrapped People like shrink
wrap brand new games and people like setting
off fireworks, especially since I picked it up
for eight bucks Profits damn it Damn it your
face. No people are setting off fireworks. Oh,
I thought you were smacking your head up against
your desk. Nope So well, it's a good thing it's
like the fourth it should Nothing. Never mind.
Anyways, let's not give them any more credit
than what they deserve um joe have you been playing
anything i couldn't remember yeah i actually
finally you know i don't know how many years
late started playing bio shock how is that going
i well one it's terrifying and uh i don't i don't
like that kind of pop and scare stuff so but
i really really really want to get through it
because it's bio shock and everybody says it's
the greatest game of all time i Oh, let's see
story wise maybe you can tell me how far I am
through the game. I just got through the Plant
area and got the sap and the water and all that
stuff and brought it to the lady she killed her
sir died in the thing when I tried to bring it
back to her and And I think I'm just a little
ways beyond that. Have you met Andrew Ryan yet?
No Okay, you Not that far. Yeah, probably about
35 % through the game. Okay 40 maybe Are you
playing with the lights on Joe? Yes with my wife
in the back typing and laughing. I'm trying because
good lord Who was the who's the guy that's talking
to you all the time would you kindly pick up
the wrench? Forgot that dude's name. I can't
think of his name either for the life of me right
now Fontaine Yeah, no, that's the fishery guy.
Oh, sorry And that's well, that's one of my criticisms
that that all of these characters are having
this big bit of drama play out and it's playing
out through that little radio transmitter and
if I'm supposed to be paying attention to that
it's really hard to listen to that when I'm you
know, in the middle of combat or walking around
and there's environmental sounds going on that
I should be paying attention to. So I hope I'm
not missing anything about the relationship between
this Fontaine and the Ryan character and then
the little guy who I don't know his name either.
That's Bioshock. Yeah, I I'm I'm not taken by
it yet, but I'm going to reserve judgment until
I actually beat the game. Kind of have had a
couple of things spoiled for me here and there,
but I don't think you know the important stuff
I'm sure I've forgotten by now, but I my first
impressions Are that it's it doesn't hold up
this game was good when it came out, but I don't
I I'm not The the whole careful Joe you might
upset people that don't listen to our podcast
yeah, I know The the utopian Here's all of my
Thoughts on these posters. I mean, it's all really
thought -provoking stuff if you're What's the
word an and ran follower Yeah, or well if you're
12 years old and you're all about anarchy and
rebelling, you know, like oh, this is really
poignant stuff No, it's not there. This is This
doesn't mean anything. It's not gonna change
anything or in spite. It's a You know, I don't
I'm not buying the message for it yet And I guess
I haven't gotten wrapped up into it. So I'm hoping
that by the end it will either make sense Capture
me emotionally or you know, I'm afraid that it's
going to let me down as something that they want
to be poignant and but it's important but it's
not is the atmosphere or the time period wrapping
you up at all because sometimes I think that
has a lot to do with why something might be a
big deal I would really love some time to actually
enjoy the setting to look around and say oh wow
look at outside the bubbly windows I can see
the but the game doesn't give me a chance because
it's either pushing me on to the next thing or
I'm getting attacked by things I never had that
problem in that game I mean I literally spent
more time I think exploring and looking around
the environment than anything else because I
never felt rush to go anywhere I mean yeah the
arrow pops up and it's like go this way and I
would just say fuck you I want to look what's
over here and I I spent more time exploring than
anything else in that game just because I to
me the thing that I loved more than anything
about that game was the environment and the way
that world felt in Just was fun to explore and
things were fun to look at and I opened every
goddamn drawer in that entire goddamn game Well,
maybe maybe Joe's just more susceptible to Games
telling him what to do. Yeah, I am and a game
like Grand Theft Auto when when you finish a
mission It says, hey, you've got to go do this
thing next, but you've actually got to go activate
the mission. And so I feel like I can lollygag
around the city and buy a hot dog and jump off
that ramp. But when I complete a task and one
of the characters jumps on and says, oh, my God,
I need help in this other room. Please get to
that section and grab the key and come over there.
And the arrow pops up. I feel like I've got to
do it. And I'm waiting for the game to give me
an opportunity to go back and play. I mean, I
might. I mean, my brain knows that I could probably
just take my time. The guy's not gonna die because
then that would end the story. But my psychology,
in my heart, the pressure, the heartbeat, that
sort of thing tells me I've gotta get there quick.
And I usually follow that just to stay with the
emotional journey that the game wants to take
me on. I can get behind that. I see both ways
about what you're talking about. Yeah, me too.
A game eggs you on, but then a game like Grand
Theft Auto where you get to start your mission.
I mean, that's kind of like the way it is in
Assassin's Creed, where it's like, go to this
point when you want to start your next mission.
But it especially bothered me in Assassin's Creed
3 when, you know, everything's kind of on a timetable
with like all the wars and stuff like that. And
you hear about so -and -so is marching on this
battlefield. You have to go and stop it. And
then you spend like the next Day like the real
real time right in the real world you spend the
next day doing side quests and then you go see
what happens and it's like Nothing has happened
until you get there. It's yeah I don't know.
But yeah, I I don't know. I kind of agree with
Danner But for me for me when I when I did play
Bioshock I wouldn't move on to the next area
right away because I was still trying to Get
my wits about me and in some situations. So I
was like, okay, I've cleared this area out I'm
going to take a minute, catch my breath, and
I'm going to look at everything. Have you done
the theater thing yet? No theaters, no. Oh God,
that's my favorite part of the game. Theater.
And I haven't seen the poppin' scare that we
talked about the last time we did the podcast
with the scarecrow -looking guy who just appears
behind you. I haven't found that yet. Have you
done the dentist's office yet? Dentist's office,
yes. Okay, because I was going to say that's
pretty early in the game. Yeah that pissed me
off in a fun way. I just I hope that it doesn't
play off like uh like it feels like it's going
to play off and and maybe I'll feel like going
back and exploring um but I sometimes I just
don't want to go back because I know there's
bad guys that I've forgotten about and that they're
gonna pop out and scare me. I don't like being
scared. I want you to play When you get done
with this, I really want you to play Bioshock
2 because I want to know if you get the feel
that I got out of it, which is the they establish
the fact that you're a big daddy from the beginning.
And it kind of has that. I want to say, I almost
want to say Mike's the one who said this before,
but I could be wrong that you get that whole
it's like playing your game as Batman. the things
that would be scary in the first time around
are not nearly as scary because you're playing
is one of the most badass things in the game
and it kind of takes a little bit of the edge
off where like when you play a Batman game and
there's easily situations that you get into that
in Arkham Asylum or Arkham City that any other
character you would be playing you you know would
probably be a little on edge but you're playing
freaking Batman so it's kind of hard to be You
do listen to me. I do listen every once in a
while. Oh, my gosh. Wow. I am. I am amazed. Because
I said that when we were talking about Tomb Raider.
Yep. So, Joe, have you played any more of that?
Tomb Raider. Beat it. Yeah, beat it. Got it back
to art. I enjoyed that game. It got a little
weird at the end there, but I wouldn't. I don't
think that took anything away from the important
parts about that game which is Lara's transformation
and kind of being reborn and I think there were
a lot of metaphors that most people who would
have played that game didn't get like I I I felt
like the she gets thrown down the pit and when
she's crawling through the blood and the skulls
and the gore and the And and the cesspool of
whatever that still sacrifice have been going
on she comes out the other end that that's a
really a rebirth or a birth metaphor for her
and Coming out tougher on the other side. We'll
see my Laura my Lara was a stone cold killer
before that happened so I See what you're talking
about, but but my she was because it's a game
But I think if they made that into a movie that
would be the moment where she comes back. That's
the Rambo moment. Yep Like cuz it can't get any
worse than that you're crawling through human
Parts it's like okay psychologically. I'm broken
and everything else is easy now would that be
a game of the year contender for you No, not
even close, but a really a good game that I would
point to people and say hey this game not feminist
or not anti -woman I guess I mean it is feminist
in that sort of way, but But no not game of the
year to it pushed that repetitive Awful thing
that I don't like it got close to that Well speaking
of you know, Bioshock and game of the year stuff
I played a game I'm excited to hear about this
because I've heard nothing It's called gone home
It's made by the Fulbright company and a little
interesting tidbit about the Fulbright company.
It's about four people Two of them came from
2k irrational and two of them came from 2K Marin.
That is my understanding of the company. The
two guys that came from 2K Marin, they were somewhat
responsible for Minerva's Den, which apparently
is some of the best Bioshock gameplay ever. I
first heard about it last week, and then I got
to one of the podcasts I listened to. The guys
were just... Falling all over themselves talking
about this and so I went to see how much it was
and what it was available on And so only it's
on Steam right now. It's available on Windows
Mac and Linux and Until today it was $18 now.
It's 20 because it was on sale I played it in
one sitting. I played it yesterday. What's yesterday?
No, it wasn't yesterday. I played it Monday It
took me about three hours to get through you
play a character Name Katie and the game is set
in the summer of 1995 You've been abroad for
a year and in that year your family has moved
to a new house So when you come home From being
abroad you show up at a new house that you've
never been in before it's about 1 a .m. There's
a thunderstorm and Nobody is home So The idea
behind the game is you have to explore this home,
this house that you've never been in, and you
have to figure out where your parents are, or
what happened to your family, for the most part.
Why is nobody home? And it's got that, it's a
really atmospheric game, I felt. It's a first
-person game, point and click, kind of... Everything
in the environment that can be touched is Interactive
you can interact with it like you can open up
drawers and they'll be like sharpies and stuff
in there you can like pick them up and throw
them all over the house and You can open up the
refrigerator in the kitchen and there's you know
condiments and other things you'd find in a refrigerator
And you can take all those things out Throw them
everywhere. Yep point and click 3D point and
click drawings on a two dimensional screen surface.
Point and click 3D. It's first. It's a first
person shooter without the gun. OK. And you explore
this house and you slowly find out a little bit
of history about the house. You find out like,
you know, that about the dad and what's going
on with the dad's life, what's going on with
the mom's life and the story. The main narrative
is the her is Katie's sisters. Sam it's her it's
her story every once in a while you'll pick up
a trinket in the environment usually it's not
cue kind of like the box of phones in infinite
or a camera with or just the recordings in Bioshock
And they cue you in you can find those and you
just you search the house and there's lots of
little cool There's cool little things because
it's sent in the 90s and like you go into the
the family room And you see like a bookshelf
full of books and all the books on the shelf
are actual titles And you see like a stack of
VHS tapes and you can read the spines as to what's
recorded on them and they say like they say like
X -Files season 1 episodes 1 through 6 And then
there's like I don't JFK and the dark crystal
like you know two movies on one VHS tape because
everybody did that There's like tons of that
stuff all over the place And it's it's kind of
hard to talk about the game without spoiling
it because you don't want to spoil You know it's
it's kind of hard to explain what what what it
is, but it's The entire game unfolds really naturally
like parts of the house are unlocked like when
you first come in there's the foyer and there's
like the family room and You can see the doors
that go to the basement and you can see the doors
that go to the attic but they want you to explore
in a certain air in the thing in a certain way
and Narratively everything works out and you
eventually you find the keys to unlock those
doors and you get to explore the basement and
there's more stuff down there to look through
and you get some of the history of the house.
One of the neat things that people have brought
up about the game is well they talk about how
in a lot of games like first person shooters
and stuff you end up and especially Uncharted
gets blamed for this a lot. You are playing a
guy that's supposed to be a hero but you end
up murdering You end up being a mass murderer
Because this is the way the gameplay is designed
and In this game, it's all about it's all about
exploring your environment and so when you go
from room to room your turn it you have to turn
the lights on in each room and You turn the lights
on and then you leave the room. You never think
to shut them off Well, eventually you find a
bulletin board in the in the sister's bedroom
and it's like Samantha. You need to remember
the turn the lights off You're costing us too
much money It's just a little nod to like flesh
out getting yelled at by your dad Yeah, and like
flesh out like game mechanics like you are turning
on the lights in the house, but you never think
to shut them off Because you're just playing
a video game But I I really liked it by the time
it was all over it had that It reminded me a
lot of like how I felt when I was done playing
flower or journey Because it's a story that pretty
much I I don't know I don't I think if you can't
relate to the story on some level Then you're
probably not a human being But yeah, I highly
recommend playing it it like I said it's on Mac
and PC and it's about 20 bucks I Mean if you
think if 20 bucks is too much for three to four
hours of gameplay. That's that's fine, but I
Definitely gonna be on you know when we do our
top five list for the end of the year, it's definitely
going to be on there. I actually enjoyed that.
I enjoyed that three hours more than the last
of us. I thought the atmosphere was was pretty
creepy because they do a really good job of putting
you in a really old house. So I'm really is it
creepy? Is it scary? No, there's no jump scares,
no nothing. In fact, it's more it's. The scares
in it are more like Silent Hill -ish. It's more
about what you make up than what's actually in
the game. Like, for example, I was one of the
first things I did when I was walking down a
long hallway, there was just a, I don't know
what you'd call it, just a table that you put
in a hallway and it's got some drawers in it.
And I walked up to the table and I clicked on
it and I opened up the drawer and you know that
I picked up a photo and I pulled it up and I
was looking at the photo and I heard like this
because playing with headphones on and I heard
this like And I thought I heard like a couple
steps after that and so I like threw the picture
back in the drawer I looked down both sides of
the hallway and I was like the hell was that
And I walked down to the end of the hallway and
I looked around the corner and I didn't see anything
I looked back in the in the in the tv room I
didn't see anything and I looked back in the
foyer and I didn't see anything and I was like
oh man It's like there's somebody else in here
with me um But no it was and that happened quite
a few times, but You know, it's it's there's
no there's no jump scares. It's all about like
what the game makes you think Um, and that's
usually worse than what's that that's that's
worse than what's actually in the game Well,
I'm convinced I want to play it but unfortunately
my computers don't run games anymore. Well, you
know what? Maybe when I come out for Grand Con
I can bring my computer and You can sit down
and play it. Okay, only if it's not heavy. It's
in some Macintosh. It can't be that heavy No,
we can even hook it up to your TV and plug a
360 controller into it. Okay, so Totally worth
playing So that's all I've got Anything anyone
have anything they want to add real quick before
we take a break have I don't know I was interested
because That's what I'm looking forward to most
this year the the multiplayer trailer for Grand
Theft Auto 5 We don't talk about that an hour
later We can talk about in the next half, okay
Alright, we'll take a break and we'll be back.
All right, we're back on the other side on this
side we're gonna talk Joe wanted to talk a little
bit about the Grand Theft Auto multiplayer I
want to hit on games come just a smidge and Then
we've got Joe's question. Hopefully it won't
be anything too heavy. I Don't think so So Grand
Theft Auto online. Yeah The trailer dropped I
believe earlier this week Last last Thursday,
okay Don't remember when I got to watch it, but
it was after you recorded so Boy is that's I
think from the looks of that video that that
looks like The type of multiplayer that we've
wanted from a Grand Theft Auto game since Grand
Theft Auto 3 Multiplayer I think I don't know
they haven't touched on it yet, or maybe you
guys have heard something. I haven't that Through
the story mode where you're playing the three
main characters whose names I don't know yet
I don't think they've said something else if
that's Online co -op yet. No so far. I think
you can only just leap between the three of them
Yeah, it's there's no there's no announced co
-op It is jump between the three of them or not
you can choose to play as one of them all the
way through the game That's kind of cool, too
but multiplayer from that video it You know,
I'm kind of reading between the lines and looking
at the pictures It looks like there is its own
kind of story mode where you're building yourself
as the gangster with your little team of lackeys
doing Preset missions and then there's also you
know, you turn that off and you just go bonkers
with jets downtown fake LA but oh my god, I I
Haven't I haven't felt this excited for a new
game since AC3, Assassin's Creed 3, and that
was a huge disappointment, but I don't think
Grand Theft Auto V is going to be a disappointment
for me. See, I can see myself buying Grand Theft
Auto V, especially after the multiplayer announcement,
but I don't see myself playing Grand Theft Auto
V, I see myself playing GTA Online. Like, that's
one of the things, like, I don't, I don't know,
there are certain games that I can, I know that
I can sit down and play by myself. Then there
are certain games that it's like if it doesn't
have a multiplayer component to it like it's
usually a cooperative Element to it and I can't
get somebody else to buy it. I'm It I'm not gonna
pay attention to it And Grand Theft Auto has
been that for like the Grand Theft Auto 5 ever
since it was announced Has been that right up
until they announced the online part So I and
it's you and like 15 lackeys I'm wondering if
there's a way to like make it friends only so
it could be you know Just you and like you know
for people I'm sure if not like an open game
and everyone gets to jack stuff up, so Well,
I how quickly those games in Grand Theft Auto
4 the online games devolved once you got the
wrong mix of people in a room and All of a sudden
your fun little Experiment in the park over in
Queens. It turns into murder fast You know you're
trying to jump these cars and launch them over
a glitch, but then it's killing each other well
see I don't think that this is I don't think
GTA online is like Like a multiplayer and like
the way that we're thinking about it. I think
it I think GTA online is more Cooperative because
as they said it's a persistent ever -evolving
online world Kind of like you know Lack of a
better way to say it. I guess would just be to
call it like an MMO with 16 people on a server
I'm oh man. I'm so excited about that video got
me really jived up and I'm actually Sitting on
enough money that I could probably go pre -order
that and not hurt myself. I think I might have
to do that tomorrow I'm a I'm still on the fence.
I don't know why I'm still on the fence, but
I will I don't know more than like they probably
pick it up because I I'm itching for Something
meaty to play and if you if you end up getting
it then I probably will because I like playing
online Yeah, I don't know how I'm gonna feel
about wanting to go through the story versus
the time that I'm spending online But then again,
you know, we're not always online at the same
time So I could find if you pick it up at launch
you're gonna have no choice but just to play
the single -player because the multiplayer component
doesn't release until October 1st. Yeah, that's
true. Might just have to wait until October 1st
to pick that up. I might beat it by then. See,
there you go. Thanks for pointing that out. I
knew that, but forgot. No problem. That's what
I'm here for. The voice of some reason. The question
is, are you going to buy it? Oh, God, I just
spent 200 bucks on Disney Infinity. No, I'm not
going to buy it. Okay. I can't get him to buy
games I want to play with him, so... And plus
November 15th is coming. Says the guy that just
dropped $200 on video games. And November 15th
is coming. I'm already onto the next generation.
So, games come. Well, the first half of yesterday
was kind of dismal because Microsoft was stealing
everything left and right. Now they've since
they've reversed their policies on everything
now they have no choice but to actually just
define their policies and you know tell people
about what they're gonna do and this that and
the other thing and now they're allowing self
publishing on the Xbox one and the 360 and They
have an indie development program where you have
to sign up get an application for And they'll
send you stuff And although and then even then
their indie thing is kind of half -baked because
They still get to set the price of your game
Versus like iOS the Android app store and the
PlayStation Network Where the developer sets
the price of their game? Microsoft it says that
you can suggest a price for your game But we
will decide what the actual price of your game
is going to be And chances are they'll probably
be they'll probably be identical But they're
taking it's not you know, the final say is not
in developer hands, which I think is kind of
why okay if you're gonna go If you're gonna dip
your big toe in why not just fall all the way
in but Whatever and then EA had their little
showing and they didn't really show anything
new the one thing I did notice in you know, start
comparison to like past E3s, and not necessarily
this year's E3, but like last year's E3 and other
EA events, usually the PlayStation has been mentioned
in some capacity. This year, there wasn't, they
only mentioned, it was like Xbox One this, Xbox
One that, time exclusives this, time exclusives
that. And there was one mentioning of the PS3
and the PS4 in passing, and that's when they
were talking about Battlefield 4 and the upgrade
path. Like, if you start a game on, you know,
if you start playing Battlefield 4 on the PS3,
then it moves to the PS4 when you buy the PlayStation
4 version. And the Xbox One does that too, so
it's kind of like, oh, here we have to mention
that both things do it. So that's the only time
the PlayStation was mentioned during their conference.
And if you read the text conversation that Danner
and I had yesterday, it was kind of crazy just
that Sony wasn't getting mentioned in a third
-party company. There was little to no mention
of them. And I was hoping that Sony would have
something to bring. Because Microsoft, as much
as they've kind of you know, blundered their
launch epically, or their message epically, not
their launch, but... I think they've done both.
Well, they haven't launched yet, but they've
also said that they're not going to be able to
meet every single country that they had planned,
so apparently their launch is going to be somewhat
of not good. It's not the 33 countries that Sony's
hitting. Yeah. So it's less than the smallest
of countries they already announced. It's like
12. It's launching in 12 countries at some point
in November and not Japan and a lot of the European
countries aren't getting it Guaranteed that they
won't be launching in November 15. Yes. Well
not guaranteed they still could That would be
interesting it would be now I the the one thing
that Microsoft has done in the last two weeks
is they've gotten with Amazon and they've gotten
with GameStop to offer an upgrade to start an
upgrade program for gamers that, you know, buy
a title that's going to be, you know, cross gen.
The biggest one is with GameStop, whereas if
you if you buy Call of Duty Ghost or Battlefield
or Watch Dogs or Assassin's Creed four. because
some of those games come out before the next
gen launches. If you buy them because you want
to play them, you can trade them in for $50 credit
and buy the next gen version for 10 bucks. In
patient. And some of those things like I can
understand, like the battlefield crowd wanting
to do that, and I can understand Call of Duty
wanting to do that. But Watch Dogs and Assassin's
Creed 4, like I don't know if those saves carry
over. They've already confirmed that Battlefield
and Call of Duty, those stats. will transfer
over to the next generation. So like if you got
Ghost on November 5th, when it comes out, you
know, you'd get like a two, three week head start
on everybody and then you spend your money upgrade,
get the get the next edition. Ten days, not two
weeks. Well, OK, fine. Sorry. But a lot of people
can probably prestige a couple of times in that,
you know. So but they get to play with that character.
They don't have to start all over from scratch
They get to play with that character on the next
-gen console when they pick it up And they only
have to pay $10 more like I can understand how
hardcore Call of Duty fans would want to do that
But I think that's a real I thought that was
a really interesting move for them because I
don't I I Mean, you know, it's been eight years,
but I don't think that happened last generation.
Did it guys? Oh, no. Oh, no, not at all So I
thought that was a pretty interesting idea and
Sony was keeping their mouths shut on that. It's
like Microsoft Yeah, they were and Danner said
that they were desperate and it's kind of like,
you know It's they yeah, they screwed up and
they know that they screwed up and it's kind
of like, okay How what can we do to possibly
make this right for everybody and it's like there
they were Throwing everything at the wall to
see what would stick, you know the upgrade program
the you know, the indie support all that stuff
They're just they're back peddling on some of
it and yeah, they're listening like Phil Spencer
said they're they're they're listening And apparently
Sony wasn't listening, but I happen to think
that if you were listening to begin with, like
Sony was, you would never have gotten yourself
in this problem. Oh, great. I think they're taking
advantage of their core audience, which are impatient,
lazy idiots. So. At about 1 p .m. Eastern, Sony
got up on stage and I don't. Did you watch their
conference at Aldaner? No, I was doing this thing
called working when I work. I actually have to
work. Whatever you're whatever that is. So it
started off like this really, really pretentious
thing. I was like, oh, my God, what are you doing,
Sony? Because it was it was the president of
Sony sitting in a high back leather chair facing
away from the crowd. And I'm like, what is going
on? and then he started up the PlayStation 4
like you got to see it turn on and it goes to
the dashboard and it showed him browsing around
and the XMB is not completely gone it's just
hidden like it's the very bottom layer of the
dashboard but one of the neat things that he
did that he showed off was he was browsing around
seeing what friends were online and he could
see live streams of all the games that his friends
were playing while they were playing and he went
and spectated a Killzone match At the bottom
of the screen it said do you want to join this
and he clicked join and it threw him right in
that game Like the game that he was just spectating
he joined it I thought that was really neat and
then of course he posted like a picture or a
screenshot thing from there to Twitter and then
he went and Then the conference started and it
started with another really pretentious showing
of Gran Turismo 6 And then they got in the nitty
-gritty of everything and it was like indie this
indie that indie everything They didn't show
off any new big games like There were there were
a few but they were just like trailers this time
where the other ones were Like they were cinematic
gameplay videos A lot of indie games like Fez
and Hotline Miami 2 There's like a free -to -play
little big planet coming They lowered the price
of the Vita, they lowered the price of the memory
cards, and the memory cards are still a joke.
All models of the Vita are now $200. Yay! Then
they showed off the cross -play between the Vita
and the PS4 using Assassin's Creed. And I think
that was like the first time... I think they
showed that off in February with Knack. But they
didn't show a handoff. I think they just showed
a guy playing neck on the Vita off of a PlayStation
4 This one it was a really neat demo because
they had one guy come up on stage, and he was
playing Assassin's Creed 4 which looks amazing
even on a stream and Seamlessly he was like another
guy came up on stage that had a Vita and he handed
off the control from You know the screen to the
Vita and then the guy was playing the exact same
game on his Vita then Sony took a couple more
jabs at Microsoft I saw that jab at the end their
message was consistent throughout and all this
stuff and you know Microsoft responded today
I wish they hadn't I think they should just keep
their mouth shut but their response was at least
we're listening to our consumers Sony was already
listening to their consumers yeah exactly and
then they said that the console would be released
on November 15th which is a Friday and that was
that for Gamescom so far what what else Borderlands
2 on the Vita I could care less I mean I'm intrigued
I would be intrigued if they come out and go
okay it's $60 and you get every single piece
of DLC which they won't I'm wondering if it's
gonna be since it's by a different developer
if it's gonna be almost something completely
different or if it's just gonna be a port I The
description makes it sound like it's just a port
I Don't know like I have so over that game like
there there are days where I literally regret
making a game of the year But then I have to
remember no wait. I'm okay with it being game
of the year for us last year because I liked
the core game I Didn't put it out my game of
the year unless this year guys is probably not
mine Who's playing with something That what is
that I don't know stuff Your jerk he sows your
face So That's all I got There was something
else Joe's question. Yeah, what do you got Joe?
All right Because I'm the retro guy What 8 -bit
or otherwise retro title? Needs a solid reboot
and how would you do it? You know, it's I don't
know if it would count Because it's not I mean
there are other games in the series that aren't
retro that are more recent But when you ask the
question the one that immediately jumped in my
mind was Metroid I Would how do you do it right?
After the beautiful thing that was Metroid Prime.
Yeah, I know I was gonna say I mean I I was hoping
you'd say that because I don't think Metroid
Prime was wrong Me neither, but Metroid Think
is suffering from would suffer from the same
problem that Zelda suffers from where Okay, I
want there. There are things that I expect from
a Zelda game There are things like I get the
treasure and I kill the bad guy with the treasure
at the end of the dungeon Then I get a piece
of the triforce or something and then I go on
to the next dungeon So you have to balance that
way. I think we just talked about this last show
How do you? Balance satisfying my desires without
being just a rehash of the same old formula I
I mean, I don't even know personally I the other
reason this jumped to my mind is because I was
actually asking pondering the idea of doing a
Look at Metroid with you guys on a future show
because there aren't that many games in that
franchise And it's actually my favorite Nintendo
franchise, but I don't know I would like to see
it go 2D again, especially on the 3DS. And I'm
kind of amazed that, like, Super Metroid never
got a Game Boy Advance release. Yeah! Like, almost
every other big Super Nintendo game got one,
but Super Metroid never did. I mean, it's on
the Wii U Virtual Console, and I think it's on
the Wii Virtual Console as well, but it never
got a port. It's never been ported. I don't know,
maybe I just want more Metroid Prime. And especially
after playing, what is the zombie game that came
out for the Wii U? Zombie U. Zombie U, thank
you. Especially after playing the demo for that,
I really would like a Metroid game. If they made
a Metroid game on it, I would totally suffer
through my wife's eye rolling and buy another
Wii U. um I Don't know dinner. What do you got?
Metro it's hard because it's already good. I
want a remake of Burger time with a crossover
of Hell's Kitchen and make Gordon Ramsay the
chef in the game on the week Yes With motion
controls galore. Yes cooking mama on steroids
Pretty much with an M rating. No. No, the answer
was how do you make it good? Put corner Ramsey
in it. That's how you make it good connect support
connect. Everything's better with connect Stop
it until you curse out loud to get bonus points
and buffs So so that was that was my fake one
I don't like in seriousness. I don't man I Would
like to see once again, it's I would like to
see a Zelda game, which already a franchise that
has been beaten to death, done in the style of
Skyrim or Fallout, that open world adventure
RPG. First person? First person. Was gonna I'd
almost take a zelt I'd almost take a zelda game
that looked like the Assassin's Creed Yeah, I
think I'd almost rather see it in a Skyrim ask
type of fallout style type I Actually agree with
that and I think that is what that franchise
needs to both stay fresh and to Move on and I
think from there it could still honor the old.
Yeah Well, it's kind of what happened with Metroid
Prime it needs that dingy grittiness that Those
games have no Nintendo game has that no Nintendo.
I mean don't get Metroid Prime has it has it
No, no, no, no. It didn't have it because when
Retro, or what was that? Retro Studios went to
Nintendo with all of their concept art for it.
They had the armor dirty and splotched up and
jacked up and you could repair it. But otherwise,
when you're crawling through muck, it comes out
covered in muck. And Nintendo said, no, it needs
to look pristine all the time. But you know what
though? The environment was still gritty, especially
when you're going through the down pirate ship.
That was awesome. That's like that. The environment
was still... There was you know it was still
Yeah, it she might have stayed pristine, but
there was still something worn They're so where
in in that game. You know what they need it needs
to be Metroid Prime Dead Space No, cuz then I
couldn't play and I can't play it. Oh No, you
know what though. Here's the thing I might be
able to play that because I'd be playing a Samus
Aran. Yeah Batman syndrome right there. Well,
yeah, you'd go through that Oh, man, that's one
of my favorite parts about Metroid the beginning
of the game. You're like, oh my god I'm gonna
die. Oh my god, you know Pew pew pew with your
little thing and then you go back and you get
all the stuff and you go through that area and
then you just speed run through it annihilating
everything and That that's one of the best games
for making you feel like you got more powerful
later I I actually have the the we trilogy collection
in the steel case. I Tried playing the first
one And I stopped because it was motion controls.
It was very difficult. That was a bad port You
know what? I also would like to see since we're
talking about remaking a bit franchises into
more modern styles I'd like to see a modern Mega
Man. Oh My god, yes done done almost like in
a Call of Duty Okay, here's the thing I think
the only problem I have with these these these
suggestions like I like them but at the same
time that brown and gray is I'm tired of that
like I I'm visually tired of us like Call of
Duty I'm visually tired of games like battlefield
let me rephrase that Mega Man should be redone
in a halo type of a fashion because halo's gotten
colorful now that it decided to rip off Metroid
Go with the format of pick the bad guy go through
his stage get the power, but it's all third or
first person You know what I would more so do
a combination of take the character and take
the switch it into a first -person style game
Yeah, but take the gameplay style of the Mega
Man legend series or the storytelling of that
series as opposed to doing the level select style
And I want to go back to your your Legend of
Zelda Skyrim suggestion because I've been thinking
this for years and wished I had the time to sit
down with a D20 style book, but I think Legend
of Zelda is directly able to be Translated into
either a pen and paper role -playing game or
a full -on role -playing game. I mean I am I
look at Ocarina of Time and I see I see species
and classes, you know, you have the Zoras, the
Gorons, the Hylians, and even the Kokiri, the
little kids, they're... What do they call them?
They're not elves. What are they? I have no idea.
They're hobbits, whatever. They're halflings.
I think that is just... I could play that game,
and even if... Legend of Zelda Skyrim type RPG
would be You you might not be playing link you
could I mean, maybe there's a part of it where
you would play link But I think there's room
to create your own character and have another
part in in that, you know running around as a
Goron a Goron Meat wall that would be an awesome
thing to do In each one of the species or character
classes would have different abilities inside
the dungeon So you can explore a dungeon one
way with one character, but a different way with
the other characters I just think there's too
much fun to be had there. That is a game Nintendo
will never do. They had too much trouble making
Pikmin 3, so... That's not gonna happen. Did
you play that yet? Because I noticed it was on
the shelf the other day. No. I know you don't
have your Wii anymore. I don't know when it came
out. No, it just came out. It was supposed to
be a launch window game, which means it was supposed
to come out by the end of March, and then when
they... That's one of the reasons why I decided
to get rid of it is when they delayed it to the
fall. I was like, nope, not sticking around,
not holding onto this to wait for that damn thing.
But the reason it was delayed is because Nintendo's
gone on has said publicly that we didn't know
that making HD games was going to be so hard
Way to be oblivious to everything that's going
on around you Funny another funny one for me
master blaster I Don't I'm not familiar with
that game. I vaguely remember a boxing game at
the arcade where you punched it really hard.
I don't think that's not the game that I'm thinking
of. The game that I'm thinking of, you're playing.
It's a 2D. It's a 2D platformer. But instead
of playing a guy, you're actually a vehicle that
can jump. I remember that game. I think it was
awesome. I think the premise of it is, weren't
you like miniaturized and put in your backyard
and you had to go underground? I think so. I
think that was like some part of the premise
of it. I don't know. I just think that what I
think about NES is one of the games that I always
think about is master blaster It's another game.
They sure we do is a fester's quest Not familiar
with it, you don't remember Adams family family
Okay, I didn't play that many NES games that
didn't have access to a lot of them This should
also remake Splatterhouse It doesn't suck. I'm
gonna say they did I said so it doesn't suck
that was How do you make it not suck? I don't
know because for some reason that that games
have been popular, but it's always sucked I Just
think more games more modern games, especially
first -person shooters. They just need a paintball
mode. I That's the one thing I like to my bull
night Cuz I'm just so over the violence I really
am The violence doesn't even affect me anymore.
It doesn't affect me I'm just like over it like
I wish like I mean halo does it you can put in
like a Basically you put in like a little cheat
when you get a headshot with a guy like funfetti
pops out of his head Like seriously, why can't
I have that and call the duty? I just said the
left because I didn't realize how desensitized
a violence I was until we went and saw kick -ass
to last week And we got out and Andy goes, man,
that was really violent. And I looked at him
go, it was. Yeah. It's like, I didn't notice.
Yes. Of course it was violent. Yes. I didn't
notice. It doesn't bother me. I'm just bored
with it. Like, it doesn't. I don't know. I just
I it's kind of like, you know, they they put
the no violence option in Borderlands. Like,
why? Not put that in other things. I mean, maybe
that's next year. I mean, we got women in Call
of Duty this year. Yeah, um Would you I'll finish
this thought up. I wonder I've thought why is
it that the video the violence thing comes up
in video games? Why are we always? Killing something
we're either killing something by jumping on
a turtle and squirting the turtle out of its
shell or Were first -person shooters. It just
it goes back to that all the time and I don't
I don't know what happened Okay, but you know
what though the jumping on a turtle shell and
squirting out the guy doesn't die immediately
But until you step on him later or throw his
turtle shell back at him I mean there you're
not killing him by jumping on him. Let's just
put it. You're making him homeless Yes, you're
yes, you're evicting him That's one of the things
I liked about going home. It's not there is yeah
That's why I want to play it gone home and journey
like there's no I mean, it's not those things.
They they are removed from that. So that's what
I need from video games. So I think you will
like going home. Anyways, what game would you
pick, Joe? I don't know. I might get flack for
this and I don't know why. You want to remake
Mario, don't you? No. Well, yeah, but not smoking.
That would be awesome. No, no. And a flamethrower.
I wonder how an M -rated Mario would look. No,
no, no, but I want to remake Battletoads. So
it's not balls as hard as you can actually play
it? A little bit. I think it should have retro
mode where it's impossible to beat, but I think
third -person beat them up with the sense of
humor that could come to Battletoads. You know,
I mean the kind of the energy of starting with
yeah, they punch punch punch punch giant anvil.
I think that Type of sense of humor and maybe
slightly self -aware of its video game roots
and the characters talk like that sometimes I
think that would be kind of fun and interesting
and We should get they should get high moon studios
to do it in the same way. They did Deadpool Yeah
If they're still around by then blah blah blah
And I think they, of course, have an online co
-op mode, but I think there should be something
in the game that encourages couch co -op, just
because that was so much a... I mean, that game
was kind of one of the genre, like the Dungeon...
Double Dragon, not Dungeons & Dragons, Double
Dragon, where couch co -op was a major, major
component of it. Yeah, but it was a component
of it because there was no way to put your NES
online. Yeah, but I think we're missing something
by not having a lot of couch co -op games, something
social. Yes, the online is nice and it's convenient
because I get to play with you, Mike, even though
you're 200 miles away. So I don't think the game
should mandate co -op being in person, but I
think there should be something like double XP
for having couch co -op or it unlocks something
else that you can do a different mode. That's
couch well artwork couch co -op the The awesome
destructo mode on red faction is that am I thinking
the right thing yeah? That that was a couch co
-op you couldn't play that multiplayer online
correct correct. That was awesome something like
that a little feature that makes you want to
play it online, but It needs to be remade and
then those idiots calling game stop saying you
have battle toads We can say like shove it we
do it's real Would you like to pre -order it?
Let's do duck hunt Yeah, I don't know I mean
I Don't think neither of you guys liked battle
toads though. Is that do I remember that correctly
like battle toads? It's just balls as hard. It's
not a thing for me We make Ninja Turtles Well,
they did that how as that has is that out yet
the not yet So that's not I mean, I know it's
probably an exclusive window, but that's not
just Xbox only right? No, that's everything I
think And it oh on it though. I almost want to
know if those character models are based on the
Michael Bay movie Do the mice do the sketches
I've seen from Michael Bay movie. I haven't seen
anything from the Michael Bay movie yet nearby
I've seen people that are like twice the size
of like other people on the screen. I have a
feeling they're gonna shrink them in the computer
That's why I Just rewatched her Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles from 1990 the other day I thought
the first one is so good. I bought it on Blu
-ray I quoted that thing line for line all the
way through the movie and scared the crap out
of alley I Can do that too? She's like are you
okay? I'm like Yes. I'm brainwashed. What do
you want from me? I did have a couple Robocop
moments, like Robocop and Batman moments, where,
you know, the last time I watched that movie
was, you know, when I was a teenager, like 12,
13, 14. And there are lines that are either like
kind of mumbled or said with an accent that I
could never quite make out. Um as a kid and that
happened with batman and happened with robocop.
So it was it was it's interesting going back
and watching movies now Uh being older one you
understand a lot more and two you can actually
tell it's a lot a lot easier to tell what they're
actually saying um I can't think of a line right
now at the top of my head, but it was just I
I like going back and visiting old movies that
I haven't seen in forever where you know like
that like a case in like the 1989 batman is like
during the party in the beginning And Gordon
asked, like, who's in charge? And I thought the
guy said, like, Epcot Center. I was like, why
is he saying Epcot Center? And he's saying, like,
Eckhart, sir. I was like, that's not right. And
then, like, another line is, like, when Bob is
talking to Eckhart, and he's like, I answer to
Grissom, not to psychos. But I thought he said,
I answer to Grissom motorcycles. I was a kid.
I was like that doesn't make any sense. Why can't
I tell what you're saying? so I have those moments
with like older movies, but No, it still holds
up. I actually have the alley talked me into
buying the the three pack I haven't watched two
or three and probably won't but it was My son
will someday I'm sure but I love to I don't Anyways
just just for the ninja rap Hey has anyone I
know we're going way out track here has anyone
seen that alternate ending to the first movie
I? Saw that uh ages ago somewhere. I don't remember
where That was that was I saw for the first time
like last week this one reasons why I was prompted
to go out and buy the movie That was that was
that was interesting where he tries to sell the
comics So all right anyone else have anything
they want to add No Sounds good to me If you
