About this Episode

A look at the WWE 24 documentary covering WrestleMania 33, featuring a breakdown of the behind-the-scenes footage and the emotional weight of The Undertaker's final moments in the ring. The conversation explores the unique access provided by the special, John Cena’s appearances, and how the company handles character personas versus the real-life people behind them. The discussion also touches on the shift toward one-month pay-per-view events and the potential future of the brand split.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the podcast

arena. Coming to the ring at this time... Oh,

you didn't know? You know I better call somebody!

First, representing this week at Geek, and from

hearts unknown, he is... Mike, the Birdman, Don!

I am one hardcore Dio! TFG1 Blanchard! I got

four words for ya! Check out my ass! And from

the Great White North, here is your special guest

referee, Ryan... It's about emotion. The culmination

of a year's journey is happening right in front

of your eyes. There's nothing quite like being

with the one you love, being in the ring and

wrestling with them. I'm home. I want to be on

that stage in my hometown. I'm gonna share the

ring with The Undertaker in front of 70 ,000

people. I'm gonna live with this for the rest

of my life. When the lights go out and the bell

tolls, hopefully I'll be able to prove that the

old guys can still go. 70 -some thousand people,

that reaction, you don't just hear it, you feel

it. Take in this moment because it is special.

Hello and welcome to Mayhem Mikes, this is episode

33. I am of course TFJone Mike. Birdman Dodd's

not here, Ryan the Inflamercly is not here, Ryan

is still recovering from his trip around the

world, which you guys would have heard last episode,

because he was over in New Zealand when we recorded

the Elimination of Fastlane episode, but joining

me for the first time is Alex, the Spurg Lord

of the WWE! Are we going to beep that out? What

are we going to do with that? Oh no, there's

no beeping on this show. Oh yeah, we'll just

get some cheap pops, some cheap heat here. Hello,

hello. Hello, hello. Alex Ricci, everyone. He

is the new headmaster over at Twig as far as

making sure stuff gets done over there. I get

the background tech stuff done. That's right.

We get some stuff planned. I do all the technical

stuff so Doug can do all the creative stuff.

That's right. That's right. And Alex likes wrestling

like we all like wrestling is why would you have

somebody on your podcast? That doesn't enjoy

it. I mean, it's not like we're listening to

paint dry I could be you know listening to a

game show podcast. I guess where they critique

all the ball. God. No, we're not gonna get down

there How dare you say to think about my friend

on your podcast you better not do that in quotes

friends exactly oh god but we're here we're here

to talk about WWE stuff and before we get into

tonight's topic as I said folks trying to mix

it up a little bit since WWE is going back to

the one month of pay -per -view thing instead

of the two brand pay -per -view thing they're

basically throwing the brands back together again

like Humpty Dumpty, you know, got saved by all

the king's horses and all the king's men. But

yeah, so Mayhem Mikes is going to be changing.

We're approaching our three -year anniversary

at this point. And we're going to have more content

from the WWE Network being discussed. As you've

heard since episode 28 and 29, Ryan and I did

the May Young classic. We did the NXT Brooklyn

3. uh... we did uh... what the hell do we do

for thirty one three sixty five kevin owens so

there's a whole new kind of plan around it to

where you get uh... hopefully three or four weeks

of episodes each month for mayhem mics and it's

gonna be all different content uh... different

review stuff from w w e network i know people

are like probably like oh but why don't you reach

out to other wrestling things like a ring of

honor or tna or something well we started with

w w we were going to go down with w w e oh boy

so when did you first start getting into wrestling

watching it or whatever uh... as a little kid

i used to watch with my grandfather basically

i would get called in and he was a he was a uh...

elderly german fellow he'd go in his thick accent

uh watch this and it would be andre the giant

being covered in midgets and he would just and

he would just laugh watching the midget wrestlers

that was his thing so that's how i got into hulk

oven that and there was the cartoon show the

was it rock and wrestling so i got got into it

that way and then just like any kid does through

people at school and then i fell out of it and

i stopped watching probably mid 90s and i would

pick it up here and there when i was at my other

grandparents house and At that time I thought

WCW was WWE and that it was just like, this is

like Raw and SmackDown. I thought they were two

separate shows because I saw Hulk Hogan and all

these people on that. So I watched briefly and

then I didn't get back into it long time until

around 2013. Right around the time that Daniel

Bryan was, I think it was right after the Summer

Slam that he was in where he got screwed out

of the title. I was back in school going to college

and I had nothing to watch in the summer. And

I went you know what let me give this wrestling

thing a watch again, and then I got hooked and

I watched everything and I mean everything So

since then I've been watching since the summer

of 2013. Yeah, that's kind of like me I watched

it as a kid all all my life kind of a thing and

I stopped after like 98 99 and I came I came

back in 2007 with WrestleMania 23 and I'm like

damn so i've been watching it now quite religiously

for the last eleven years or so uh... and it's

just one of those things where say what you will

about the story lines about the predeterminations

of the matches and we've said this for the last

three years man mics i don't care what you think

if you think wrestling is fake you can think

that you look at what those performers do You

know trading blows with each other jumping off

of you know one side of the ring to the other

Jumping off of cages or ladder matches or whatever

I don't care who you are you have to at least

respect the athleticism and The pain that these

people put themselves through as you know sports

entertainers because it's not sports. It's not

entertainment. It's sports entertainment it so

Absolutely. To me, the best description I can

give to anybody that asks, why are you watching

that? I go, it's a soap opera, a live action,

filmed in front of a live audience, soap opera

with stunts and action. So that's why it's more

exciting than a soap opera is. There's more stuff

going on. And what other soap opera allows you

to meet and greet every single week? Yeah, exactly.

You know, there's lots of things about WWE that

people don't like and that's fine. There's a

lot of things I don't like and people have heard

that over the last three years. Like when storylines

go on too long or something like that. But there's

other flavors if you're a hardcore fan or even

if not, you know, you can watch I guess it's

just called impact wrestling now. You got impact.

You've got New Japan. There's other venues with

the Internet. You can watch every flavor you

want. You know, there's lucha. There's all that

stuff. This is just happens to be the big one.

So like there I can't imagine unless you're just

you don't like violence whatsoever. I can't see

why there isn't some merit or value in watching

wrestling for fun. Yeah, absolutely. One of the

big things we are going to be covering after

WrestleMania 34 for the month of April, at some

point in the month of April, we're going to be

covering the Andre the Giant new HBO documentary

that's airing April 11th on HBO. He's stronger

than all this he's bigger than all this He kept

everybody in line he was the guy he was famous

on a different level literally the biggest celebrity

in the world How about your diet how much food

do you need today? You knew that you were seeing

something unique in the world. Andre was an attraction.

There was no level of comfort. It had to be an

uncomfortable life. They think of him as this

legendary drinker. He drank because he was in

pain. People would not leave him alone. The reality

of who he was was getting more intense on him.

He knew he wasn't gonna live long. Month after

month, you can see Andre failing. Andre commanded

great respect. He was not the most articulate

man in the world. Look at me when I'm talking

to you! He spoke in other ways. Oh, boy, look

at that! He was a figure of the imagination come

to life. Mother Nature has done something really

magnificent here. So that's gonna be really interesting

because we haven't really looked at Andre at

all like Yeah, and that it's made by an outside

company. Yeah, so this won't be tainted like

it'll be made with WWE you know personality but

with but it might be it all depends on if WWE

owns the rights to his name and likeness because

if they don't if they do then it'll be you know

made with the permission of WWE but if not yeah

this is very possible you could see a side that

they would not normally be willing to talk about

yeah I mean most of the Andre the Giant stuff

I've seen recently like even you know hit you

know the whole Andre the Giant uh... battle royal

memorial battle royals stuff that they've done

because that it's wrestlemania season and everything

else most of that stuff is is w w e approved

as people talking about it and things like that

i would highly doubt that each field is just

doing this to do it i think it is with obviously

vince's permission or somebody you know and i'm

sure they're gonna have it is just yet wanted

to bring this up with Don Ryan here and maybe

that'll happen next time but I mean I shall speak

for Don Vince Vince McMahon Vince McMahon is

WWE at this point and Vince McMahon you know

two years from now is going to be the XFL again

so if The XFL can come back. I'm fairly sure

that WWE will work with HBO for a documentary.

I mean, look at all the, look at all, and we

don't see this a lot and I want to do this. I

wish these, I wish these damn things were on

the network. All the DVDs that WWE has released

over the years, like, like, uh, was it 2005 or,

I don't know, somewhere around there. I forget.

years ago there's a dvd featuring john cena there's

a plate they advertise every now and a couple

years ago they advertise the dvd for jerry the

king waller i don't think that special is on

the network i don't know if it is or not i don't

think it is i'm not sure it's things like the

uh... yeah warrior one where the yes instruction

of the war Like we forget that it existed because

we put up a better one now that we like him again.

Yeah They'll do that. Like what I want to see

it's never gonna happen is I want to see HBO

or some You know documentary filmmaker maybe

vice or somebody would cover it do a real story

on on the life and what happened to Chris Benoit

Yeah, not from not from not from me. Don't glorify

it. Like I want to see just a legit documentary

on What's been done to investigate what happened?

Don't go into details of necessarily what happened

to his family, but analyzing the brain, was it

just brain trauma that caused it to him? Were

there other factors? Was it the steroids that

did things? Was it other things? Or was it not

even related? Could it have been that he just

had a brain disorder, regardless? So instead

of just let's not talk about him. He never existed

thing that they're doing Yeah, I mean I that

would be kind of cool, but I don't think you're

ever gonna get it because I mean Yeah, because

here's the thing about Vince McMahon that I noticed

folks Go back and listen to episode 31 of mayhem

Mike's when Ryan and I are talking about The

365 Kevin Owens There was a point in that when

Kevin went back and holy shit Vince was there

at the raw that Kevin didn't do like didn't give

them what they wanted for that particular part

of the program and Vince was just like so cold

-shouldered to Kevin and it made Kevin just be

like so disappointed that he didn't give them

what they wanted for the company and Just my

shock is not necessarily that my shock is more.

So oh damn Vince is there every like I didn't

not think Vincent man wouldn't be there but like

Last time we saw him on TV was When the hell

was it it was oh it was recently it wasn't it

was uh... it was uh... well will rumble i think

because uh... yeah yeah yeah because it was just

a look is you know this was like uh... you gotta

give me this award you all did the crowd funding

on on go fund me and blah blah blah blah i did

all of this uh... nobody helped me do this and

then was uh... raw brought twenty five that's

what it is done dumbass me but yeah well yeah

yeah raw twenty five i did all of this idea i

had no help from anybody up up up up up up up

up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up

up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up

up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up

up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up

up up up up up up up up up up up During his 50s

and 60s, he didn't really age at all. He looked

basically the same as he did in his 40s. Just

hairstyles changed. Things are starting to catch

up with him and he's not as quick as he used

to be. He doesn't sound as gruff or as empowered

as he used to be. You're fired. He looks a little

more like a businessman and less like a personality

than he used to. And he's sort of cut back. I

think the whole merging them back into doing

one pay -per -view per... Month thing is so he

can be at every single one because he likes to

micromanage everything Talk was that he wasn't

at most of the smackdown shows So he he has this

thing about having total total final say on everything

so I think this just makes it easier for him

Yeah, that could be but no that that moment where

he's like I did it all I had no help from anybody

and then the glass shatters and I'm like, oh,

yeah oh hell yeah cuz every time is he gonna

is he gonna stun her you know a senior citizen

oh hell yes he is so tonight we're doing a little

special thing and I'll mention what we're gonna

be doing forward as after WrestleMania as as

I mentioned earlier I'll go into more detail

at that at the end of the show we're gonna talk

about another WWE Networks thing One of the WWE

24 episodes, and we'll be doing more of these

as well. WWE 24 WrestleMania, this is from last

year's WrestleMania. A little spotlight on it,

and I think it was last year, wasn't it? Yep,

it was last year's. Yeah, it was the Miz. Yeah,

Goldberg, Miz, Maryse, Cena, Nikki. What surprised

me about this is that they let... Mark Calloway

on camera Yeah, you know like I've never like

okay like I was mentioning earlier with the DVDs

Every superstar in the last 20 years or so has

a DVD special or something that has come out

at some point Almost everyone has with the exception

of like Chris Benoit and things like that, but

yeah exactly And that's why I love this behind

-the -scenes stuff. That's why I know Dodd liked

it for the drama, but that was one of the reasons

why, when I was first watching Total Divas, why

I liked it, because you got to see the behind

-the -scenes meetings with, like, the divas and

the superstars and the management, like Mark

Carano and all that. Yeah, and of course, so

much of that, it's still staged. Like, they're

not going to be 100 % themselves when the cameras

aren't on because, you know, for legal purposes,

they don't want to let people in, but they're

still, even if it's 50 % more real, yeah that's

what we want to see absolutely so the like but

there's one wrestler out of all of them that

i have never seen never they never show him because

of who he is because of who his character is

and that is the undertaker like yokas take take

your get the hell out of here what the hell yokas

is the undertaker through my mind. They say fighters

can grow old in one fight. Hopefully this isn't

that fight. Dealing with the numerous injuries

that I work around. Have I prepared physically

as well as I could? That's kind of the big issue,

is it making sure that there's always enough

gas in the tank. One of my biggest fears is kind

of becoming a parody of myself. They happen to

buy a ticket to see Undertaker wrestle. They

should get the best Undertaker I can give them.

You don't ever see The Undertaker at like, I'm

sure he doesn't. Ryan and I have talked about

this the last five, six episodes. All of these

people. do the make -a -wish things, but obviously

some of them are heels. They don't want WWE to

let them still do the charity work. They just

don't show them doing the charity work like they

show John Cena doing the charity work. And I'm

sure Undertaker has done or still does charity

work. I have no idea. I'm not looking at his

IMDB or wrestling Wikipedia thing or whatever.

I'm just saying that the point of the Undertaker,

the point of the character, is that mystery is

that dead man persona or you know if you're in

the mid nineties early two thousands the american

bad ass and he does that i guarantee you he does

it in character all i'm sure but the fact that

this special showed him in a car on the way to

wrestlemania and after the fact of getting beaten

by roman reigns I hear all the booze. Wow, damn,

that's in stereo. Hot soccer moms cheering? Yeah.

Oh, God. You know, you don't ever see Mark Calloway.

Like, you just don't because that's not like

the real shift was when they did that Stone Cold

interview. Yeah. And when Vince referred to him

as Mark. Yeah, like you could hear like I was

by myself and I could think the internet just

gassed Vince referred to him by his real name

Yeah Yeah, I honestly think it was that interview

in the triple H one in a couple ones You notice

there hasn't been a stone -cold interview and

they they tried it with other was Jericho did

it I Which which interview are you talking about?

With stone colds interviews that he used to do

on the network. Oh, yeah the stone cold podcast.

Yeah Like I know they say oh, it's you know,

it's money related or whatever No, I have a feeling

that vince didn't like that. He revealed too

much of the curtain He pulled it back too far

with that and was a little too honest And I think

he didn't realize how much people would harp

on every word they were saying So I think that

itself is like that was the first chance He had

ever opened the door to you know refer to the

undertaker as anything other than like a force

of nature Yeah, absolutely So yeah seeing him

after the show where he's like he's like you

can see he's scared to go out Yeah, he was that

that that he's basically crying when it's over

and and hugging Triple H before he leaves That

is like you can see at this point. He doesn't

care where he's on camera. He's just being himself

Yeah, absolutely and walk and you can you go?

wow he might not do another one like i know they

put the gear in the ring and everything and that

was to symbolize that's the end but he's obviously

i guess he's they haven't shown as of this recording

the the raw go -home show yet yeah no assume

that he's going to be there uh and this is this

will be the longest they've gone without announcing

his acting anything being part of the match yeah

so if he does come back this is this is probably

it because that would be two in a row that he

would either lose or he goes out on a win and

I usually go out on a loss but I would almost

think you'd want him to win this one and then

just hang it up or If he does come back, I could

only imagine it would be for a tag team match

or, you know, let's get all the old guys together

and have Sting come back and not take any bumps

and we'll do something cool. But really, could

there be anybody else he goes out on? You know,

he's not going to make a career of anybody. Anybody

that beats him now is going to get booed. So

if you have Cena beat him, he'll get booed anyway.

But it's logical that Cena would finish him.

To the girl who hates those hot dog leg selfies

and just wants to snap up a hot deal Hashtag

rest assured at summer girl 38 message received

and to the working men who hasn't had a vacay

of what feels like forever It's just be so busy

the rest assured busy B. I got you. Please don't

call me that whatever you're planning this summer

for a better rate Make it maudrin join now and

save 10 euro at maudrin hotels calm terms and

conditions apply It is See I like them both.

Yeah. Yeah, I like them both Yeah, no matter

what happens seen that goes into this getting

booed like he can't be he'll be cheered actually

He can't be cheered like children love taker,

too Yeah, this is a case of you got two baby

faces that are gonna get I don't know something

something It's gonna be interesting and it'll

be interesting where they place the match If

it goes on at the end again, then we know it's

over, probably. Yeah. And here's the thing. You

know, and Ryan was surprised that I remembered

this, but we did. Episode 20 of Mayhem Mights,

we did Spotlight John Cena, where we went through

on the network and watched, like, this highlight

reel of all of John's early, like, earlier, like

when he first debuted. The first night he debuted

against Angle, like, when he came out against

Angle with the whole ruthless aggression thing.

like right before that or right after that he

went back and the undertaker showed up and I'm

like holy shit it's the undertaker 2002 style

like giving John Cena the nod oh yeah that's

right and I'm like yeah and I'm like damn I would

think the ronda rousey fight and everything yeah

and I know Kurt angles being he's He's being

put in the Hall of Fame, isn't he, this year,

right? I thought he was already in, but... No,

I thought he was getting... Was he already in?

I think he already is. He's either already in

or he's getting put in, I don't know. I don't

remember. But I thought he was being put in,

and if it's the case, usually once you're in

there, you don't perform anymore, except for

showing up at the Rumble. But I was hoping that

his final match, if he does have a final match,

would be... Mania against John Cena and then

lose against John Cena and then they just replicate

the whole handshake thing. Yeah Instead of pushing

his hand away or walking away this time he just

shakes his hand it's over because that's that's

how if you're gonna end angles career That's

that's who you want to end it with is have seen

to do it Cena lost their first match and he wins

their final match. Yeah But I think that getting

back to the whole the 24 episode it was interesting

to me to see John Cena swear because he's so

on point when he's on camera that you know he

never really breaks and just see him you know

drop an f -bomb by accident here and there or

get lost in the in the arena and pretend that

he's like oh shit well well I'm gonna pretend

that I know what I'm doing now been involved

in a lot of WrestleMania. I found myself in a

match I've never been a part of on the grandest

stage of them all. And that was a mixed tag match.

Once we made it through that last television

broadcast, WrestleMania itself was nothing but

fun. Here I get to be with the love of my life,

John Cena. Here's the business where we met,

where we've just grown in our relationship. And

for me, that made WrestleMania so special. And

from West Newbury, Massachusetts. We do our entrance

and then when he goes to throw his hat he literally

goes, holy my mom's here My mom doesn't travel

she doesn't really understand all of WWE It's

never been a top her schedule to be at a WrestleMania

or I don't think she understands the importance

of it So to have her in the front row was a wonderful

genuine surprise. I think the thing with John

is This storyline that they have going with him

now of how is he gonna get his WrestleMania moment?

Because last year he had such a big moment obviously

Yeah, you know even though that was a more personal

moment than a professional moment, but still

it was a WrestleMania moment They could go back

to not being PG and then just go to like back

to the 90s and then he could just consummate

the marriage right there in the ring in front

of everybody. God. No. I mean, Edge almost did

that, right? What was that, part of the show?

Oh, God, please, no. But the thing of it is,

is like John had like, they've been promoting

him. even with the brand split i don't know how

we're gonna do it now with the brands kind of

coming back together with only one paper a month

all this year and i think to the end of last

year they were promoting him as free agent john

cena he can go wherever you want smacked out

raw it doesn't matter kind of a thing and we

take a more we need the ratings exactly uh...

and the thing that is is You know they they're

doing the storyline to the point where he's consistently

losing or he's consistently not getting the shot

he's not getting the job done he had that whole

speech about. Failure that i put into the last

episode of the podcast. You know the whole thing

where he calls out the undertaker. you know he's

like to tell me how to do it and i've said this

already and i know people have tired of time

to repeat this i mean i still have to do it but

i'd challenge the under take her and i'm like

okay so that we don't think it's gonna be around

next week we'll have to see what happens now

because no but who knows but but but but but

but but but but but but but but but but but but

but but but I guess, I don't know. But what do

you do with the Undertaker when he's, like, okay,

look at last year's WrestleMania. okay well first

of all last year's wrestlemania was that florida

or something it was at orlando it was that outside

thing like oh it's been nine years since we were

here kind of thing and that ramp was extra long

well it wasn't as bad as like was it the sky

dome one back in the day yeah a few other ones

but it was it was better than the outdoor one

they did on in la where it was like yeah light

until the very last match and just didn't have

the mystique uh it was it was well done but he

looked like crap in WrestleMania 40 with the

mohawk when when he lost he looked uh what was

the next one he did was that the next one he

looked a little better with Bray Wyatt and then

he looked pretty good uh with the Shane McMahon

one yeah yeah And then last year he looked like

crap again No, I heard he was like he was recovering

from a I think he had knee surgery or something.

Yeah. Yeah, I don't he's based like people forget

like It's one thing to be working like you could

be gold dust or somebody where you've worked

30 I guess 35 years in the industry about 30

35 years same length as Taker and full -time

just as long doing as much but the difference

is gold dust is you know he's like 48 but he's

also like a foot shorter and he doesn't have

those long legs if you look at the tall guys

that have the really long legs their knees and

ankles give out on them after 30 years of you

know being on the road the the only one that's

like somewhat seems to be fine is uh big show

because he's like proportionally huge he's just

a giant for real yeah but you look at any of

those guys like uh kevin nash any of the ones

like taker where they're all legs their hips

and knees are shot So, Taker used to do jumps

and crazy stuff that you should not be doing

as a 320 -pound dude. Yeah. So, it'll be interesting

to see if he does show up, what kind of shape

he's in, because he looked okay at the Raw 25

thing. Yeah, he did. He rambled on like he had

lost his mind, but... Yeah, he did. I was like,

apparently he was a little... he was a little

out of it because it had been like what 25 years

since he'd done a venue that had less than 15

,000 people or 20 ,000 people yeah this was like

2 ,000 people yeah it was like it was weird because

it was like the cameras were closer the people

were closer you know it's and if you only make

an appearance once a year it's got to be a little

weird so he sort of rambled a bit but it's i

i almost wonder if like mania isn't where he

should go out should he just show up on raw one

time and just lose and that's it Advertise his

very last match not on pay -per -view. Advertise

it on Raw and see what those ratings get. Yeah,

that's true. I mean, but, okay, outside of Cena,

who could his last match be against? Like...

I don't know about that. He could carry the entire

match and make him look good without making Taker

have to do anything. Or you already get a younger

guy. Do you get somebody new? Like as much as

I love like Bobby rude, you don't want somebody

that's no style you want somebody that is smaller

like Rey Mysterio. Oh That would be interesting

It's a small guy versus the guy small guy that

can do a lot Yeah, usually you want to give it

to somebody who if you're gonna beat take or

you want somebody young who's gonna be with the

company for a while so I know they keep going

to Roman but Would you want Daniel Bryan? Let's

get out of my head, dude. Seriously, that's the

next thing I was going to say. What about Daniel

Bryan versus Taker? Like, I know they have this

whole Shane, Owen, Zane, Bryan thing now. I mean,

even Kevin Owens, somebody like him, he could

do it. He could carry that match. Whoever beats

him is going to have monstrous heat. So do you

get a Kevin Owens? Do you get Samoa Joe? Just

come in come back from injury and just take her

Do you get like you got to get somebody that

can either pull it off as a as a heel? it's going

to be hated for a long time and be willing to

be hated for a long time or do you get a Daniel

Bryan or Rey Mysterio or even look even the rock

or somebody to come back and do it and Know that

they'll be able to spin it like if Daniel Bryan

beats them. There'll be some booze at the very

beginning but Daniel Bryan will shake his hand,

he'll look super respectful, he'll help him up.

It'll be the baby face that, you know, beats

the baby face. It'll be like the Shawn Michaels

versus Ric Flair. It'll be that kind of a match.

Oh yeah, absolutely. You're sad to see the person

go, but you're happy of who did it. And the crazy

thing is, is in this WWE 24 thing when Roman

beat Taker, you know, I think it's great that

they showed the clip of Roman saying, yeah, it

was his yard, but it's my yard now, and I'm going

to take care of it, I swear to God, kind of a

thing. I like that. Look, Roman's not the worst

person in the world just because he beat the

Undertaker. I mean, look at what Brock Lesnar

and Paul Heyman did to the Undertaker. That's

worse to me than what Roman did. You know, and

here's... And Brock is the kind of guy that can

take that kind of heat. He can work with whoever

he is. Exactly, because he doesn't give a shit.

He just basically and I don't like the charging

up or cocking his arm shotgun thing that he does

because it looks it looks phony. It looks very

like 1980s cartoony. if he's supposed to be this

bad ass it makes them look stupid so basically

what they're doing is is what they're doing is

they're being in the challenge of the super friends

superman is what they're doing it pretty much

there there may be they're making to comic book

if you want to be this cool badass guy have him

sphere people have it don't have him telegraph

but i know that for the children yeah but have

him to prevent somebody out of nowhere as you

like Yeah, not like he he sells the setup or

like it only works for somebody like like Shawn

Michaels where he does the super kick thing because

it's like The stomping to charge up that's his

stick and he had already, you know been established

for 20 years before he started Don't it's like

you're selling us an action figure and people

don't want it. Whereas if they let him be a heel,

you know Have him be a full -fledged heel where

everybody like absolutely hates him and and he

revels in it and is mean and doesn't do You know

doesn't do any of the kid stuff have him do that

for a year and then you can turn him into a good

guy Yeah, and this is again. He's just not ready.

He also the final thing is he makes You can see

on his face. Randy Orton has the same problem.

When he doesn't want to do something, or he doesn't

like what the crowd is reacting to, you can see

it on his face. He wears pooh -pooh face the

entire time. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And here's the

thing. I get it. Dean is currently injured. I

understand that. And he's no better. Okay, but

my point is, to whirl it around, point is...

the three of them out of the three of them set

this probably the best one after all he carried

the raw for like an hour and fifty seven minutes

or whatever it was you know and that's great

i love set now i love said nothing about doing

that stupid authority bullcrap storyline but

that too yeah i was so done with that like after

the first two weeks to happen uh... but like

my point here is is bring them back together

and they did kind of sort of until Dean got injured

have them be the shield have them be this this

three -man team that doesn't really need like

they've all had championships but they don't

really as as that team they don't really need

to be chant like it's not like the fucking new

day where two of them have to be champions and

one of them has to be to the fucking horn and

throwing pancakes and unicorn shit and but you

know what they've got that market cover they've

got and that's fine but what right no exactly

but what i'm saying is like the shield was the

quote -unquote badass military -like police -like

type of team that would come in and basically

Give you what for and not give a shit about it

and still have fun doing it is what my point

is Yeah, they're the PG eras. There's like a

mix of the nation of domination and the APA Yeah,

absolutely them together That's what they were

a three -man team that did that and that the

problem is they Even if they do that they'll

be over and then the second Roman is by himself

again people will be pissed what they need to

do is You have Roman get injured by, you know,

if he's injured for real or whatever, if it's

a work or whatever, you have some heal that's

really overcome and just destroy him. And you

know what you do? You keep him on payroll with

a minimal amount of pay for like a year and a

half, but he doesn't do anything. Doesn't show

up anywhere. Keep him on payroll. He maybe, you

know, works out. Keep him out of the spotlight

for like a year and a half. And then you have

him come back and just be like. just a monster

baby face because people always like it when

you come back but they don't like it when it

seems manufactured so have it have it be like

a random thing he's gone he's been released have

him go work somewhere else yeah you know let

let him go to japan let because he's only ever

worked the wwe he's where you look at dean dean

started um in i guess probably what was it the

mid North mid somewhere like that. He did some

of those shows and and he was put CZW some of

these other ones He was a part of so he had some

experience then you got Seth who was I think

he was I don't know if this is real name or not

but he was Tyler black and Ring of Honor and

and he He's somebody who toured across the states

with another company and look at he was the most

ready when they moved him up So I think the problem

is Roman has only ever learned what they told

him to learn and then they're like alright now

be yourself and they're like he's like how If

you've only ever shown me one way to do things

So I think he he could almost benefit from time

off and maybe training somewhere else Yeah, he

has all the pieces. They just don't fit right.

Yeah Yeah, Tyler Black was a ring name for WWE.

His real name is Colby Daniel Lopez for Seth.

Okay, so I was I wasn't ring of honor yeah i

was looking at dean just cuz i wanted to see

when he was he was injured december of last year

he's projected to be out nine months which means

he's not going to be back until summer slam maybe

um i know that he was he was apparently being

checked out by the doctors recently same with

ray mysterio for because ray is looking to maybe

sign with them right he does that there's there's

the the lucha baby face they've been looking

for again yeah there you go cuz uh... because

uh... sink are really doing it i don't even think

he's on the show people are he's gone he's gone

i think they don't i went to my first uh... house

show ever they came local to us which is probably

the first time in like ten years or more because

i can remember them ever coming to kitchener

but they were here last weekend and i got to

go with my brother and his girlfriend and it's

pretty packed houseboat six thousand people to

a small like provincial hockey so it was pretty

busy and it was a rawhouse show so I guess the

smackdown show was somewhere in the states right

and the they had a match with the the I guess

the cruiser weights and it was that Grand Metalique

which is the other lucha okay Kalisto and they

were super over with the kids I had not like

when you watch TV you don't see them cheer nearly

as much All the kids love them doing all their

flippy -dippy crap. Oh, yeah I think the problem

is they're not connecting with the regular fans

whereas ray connects with the regular fans Yeah

ray connects with everybody like at the show

they had like oska was popular she was there

and there was there was a bunch of other people

but the most over people were still the old -timer

people and there was a match with slater and

rhino came out rhino was the most over person

at the entire show and i'm not sure if it's a

It's not an ECW thing because there's a lot of

families there I think it might just be maybe

a northern thing because he's from like Michigan

area I think yeah, which is close enough But

his match was the best match of the night and

it was like the second match of the show that

and people loved gold dust And Seattle I don't

get that I don't understand that music it's the

music and he came out and he was doing a little

more of his old -school gold dust stuff like

the the androgynous sort of like playing around

with with the person in the ring a little more

sexual but like a little more he was playing

more weird like he used to like fun and then

as he leaves you know surprise it wasn't announced

but Bray Wyatt shows up and comes to the ring

and then calls out Matt Hardy and you know the

crowd goes crazy Matt Hardy because I don't know

if it's as big in the States but here people

actually were watching tna somewhat especially

since tna became now tna is like it's the names

no longer but um impact wrestling is now canadian

-owned yeah they're headquartered out of toronto

and and there's been some changes but that whole

the whole broken hearty stuff was super popular

up here yeah ridiculously popular so he comes

out and they're all cheering like crazy and everything

well they did an angle that it Found out later.

It's actually probably going to be used for mania

They were they even told us, you know You can't

have any cameras out for this event for this

certain for this certain part and everything

But it looks like he's trying to get Or Bray

is going to join the broken hearties or the woken

hearty the woken hearty. Yeah And it looked like

he was he was fighting the fighting it like but

then it looks like he's going to join and I think

that's when You know, he welcomed him to the

welcome to the family or whatever to the woken

family, blah, blah, blah. The crowd went crazy.

So they're testing audiences to see at these

house shows what people want. And I think that's

probably going to be what we see at Mania. So,

I mean, it's hard to tell. Like, it seems like

the old school people are over the younger people

for the most part aren't getting over unless

they're Daniel Bryan or I'm trying to think anybody

else. The Miz is over it because people hate

him, but. I can't think of can I think of any

good guys that people universally like other

than Daniel Bryan better that are younger like

we're talking under 40 Oh God no That's what

made it. I mean Seth like Seth maybe because

Seth is kind of like teetered on the on the on

the he's kind of like straddling the fence between

face and heel like he Seth can go between those

two very easily very quickly so maybe Seth just

depending on where the storyline for him is um

people are liking Bobby Rude but he plays a heel

when he does a face but he is a face right now

he is a face right now maybe but Nakamura hasn't

really done much since he came to impress people

uh... i think he's not doing them because those

matches hurt yeah exactly uh... for dean just

as a side note he started with uh... heartland

wrestling association moved over to insanity

pro wrestling from two thousand seven twenty

eleven each one w w e obviously in twenty one

twenty twelve one of those bullshit ones religious

hurt themselves barbed wire for a living Probably

what's probably one of those more extreme like

ECW style ones. Yeah, probably Well after that

he went to combat zone wrestling. Yeah, which

is one of those ones Yeah, so yeah, so he he

knows so I think Dean's toned it way down Dean

Dean is over but Dean I don't like his facial

expressions He he over he makes them too cartoony

It depends on what he's doing. It really does

for me. It really does depend on what he's doing

with it. If he's doing something where he's making

fun of something, like the whole... And we're

way off 24 topic, but anyway. When he's doing...

Yeah. Oh, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. When

they had the whole... It was him and Jericho,

that's what it was, because it was the nails.

It was the whole... uh... extreme say it when

the extreme rules things where he's like puts

all these nails and spikes and jericho's back

and it's the first time it's ever happened since

mcfoli and yada yada yada and whatever else like

during that kind of a thing against chris jericho

i think his facial expressions work when he's

kind of going against the whole w w e regime

kind of thing i think it works I didn't like

Dean when he was when the shield first came out

I liked Roman and Seth was okay but Dean was

the awkward weird one to me when the shield first

started back in 2012 and I didn't really care

for him and then he finally started coming into

his own after kind of the breakup and everything

else and Seth wanted his... is the bouncing off

the ropes thing. You know where he does like

the yang and then runs back at you? Yep. It's

fine if you do that at the very beginning when

you've got a lot of energy. He'll do it though

when he's clearly out of energy. Yeah. And it

just looks hokey like it looks it looks like

he's moving in slow motion. Yeah. So hopefully

this time off and recovery recharges his batteries.

So yeah, like under 40. I can't think of anybody

but Daniel Bryan that is universally like that.

Every single person can get behind. Yeah. On

on the roster period. I mean, you could say AJ

Styles, but he is sort of an in -between guy.

He's either a good guy or he's a bad guy. Yeah.

Sina is, you know, very derisive. People don't

either you like him or you don't like him. I

like him. I just and now that he's not being,

you know, pushed down people's throats, that's

a big thing, too. I think. But Sina is already

he's over 40 now. So, yeah, I think I think either

40 or 41. yeah well brian is uh... uh... thirty

six he's on his way to being forty yeah it's

like uh... you know who's ss yet john just turned

forty in april or he will turn forty in april

actually though no no it was for a year for last

year that's right he'll be forty one in april

this year so i got the uh... there really isn't

anybody like there's people that you hate that

are under 40 yeah but i mean they're gonna have

to do something to build people up because even

the people they're bringing in from from nxt

or if they brought in from tna like uh samoa

joe and all these guys they're all in their their

upper end of 30s now like they almost waited

too long to pull them in like vince had this

grudge we're not getting anybody from tna for

any reason they're dead to us and then and then

you see uh aj styles goes to japan and sells

out as a main event you know 75 000 people at

wrestle kingdom and he's like who's this kid

and it's like well he's the guy we wanted you

to sign 10 years ago because like i'm surprised

they didn't they marketed him once when he first

had his matches with cena Where they showed like

their you know with their debuts Yeah, if you

footage they showed was from like WCW Thunder

like the last two shows God guy they signed to

and he like he was such a nobody back then that

his match was cut from their pay -per -view apparently

What they should have marketed him as not they

shouldn't have marked sting as the last of the

of the attitude era He's the last of the attitude

era yeah he is like he was he was signed and

within like three months the company folded so

they could they could have used him but they

didn't have they didn't apparently they didn't

want him right so they're waiting till these

guys are like nearly 40 and what are they gonna

get five years out of these guys left yeah so

i mean john's been doing it god jason jordan

yeah but you know i'm saying like that didn't

work you know the i'm surprised that um what

is it uh Gable and Benjamin Benjamin that's like

anymore I love their music they look great together

but nobody they're dead silent when people when

they come out yeah nobody cares no so it's sad

they're gonna have to win you know when Gable

and Jordan were American Alpha that was cool

this whole storyline where he's Kurt Angle's

son that's just stupid my dad give me a shot

dad dad give me a shot dad dad give me a shot

and then he constantly consistently gets injured

like don't get me wrong injuries are very bad

we've said this on the podcast before we don't

ever want to see any of these people get injured

but they do and WWE right now yeah they're very

careful because they used to just let people

you know here take a bunch of painkillers and

go through it for the next three months yeah

So I I convinced that it's actually you know

a joke that Vince is playing because the reading

what was it that back in the day before Kurt

Angle was was married and everything he was black

groupies He is preference for black women. So

that's the joke is why they picked a half black

guy to be his son Why didn't you go with? Dixie

because Gables also the guy that worked for Think

he was he training on the Olympic team and he

was a world champion All this stuff. So he had

similar credentials You could have just said

he was the Sun and you and it would have probably

been more really But it's like oh we got a half

black guy who's also bald. Let's just make him

the Sun It's funny. No, it wasn't funny this

they know with the story. He doesn't have he

was with the tag team for a reason He didn't

he's very young. He doesn't know how to talk

yet on the mic You know, that's why you put people

in tag teams. But yes, we have gone way too far

I think it's because we're so close. We're a

week away from mania Yeah, and and you know watching

last year's one just got me fired up for this

year's one where they're gonna go It's gonna

be a long show Yes, and don't even get me started

yeah, don't even get me started it's 5 p .m.

Till 1130 Seven hours too long way too long I'll

bet you I'll bet you a dollar That the takeover

is probably a better match just like what of

course they always are I mean it'll be interesting

if if If the XFL does take off and I'm not a

football guy, but I will watch that it's crazy

That takes off and Vince leaves and Triple H

sort of moves up into controlling the show that

will see change because they brought over from

TNA, Jeremy Borash, who was like the announcer

and behind the scenes guy there. He was the one

that was one of their head writers and sort of

working with them in the last four years to try

to help them not fall apart. It looks like he's

been brought in to basically run NXT. Wow, and

he's the one that did all the he's the one that

filmed and wrote all the broken stuff for the

Hardee's and Came up with the idea and filmed

it differently. So he's injecting new ideas into

the company But it looks like he's been brought

in as the main creative force moving forward

probably after mania Yeah, so if that happens,

like I think that's probably you know, Vince

is gonna work on his retirement his retirement

project, which is the XFL yeah I'm not even sure

because it didn't it took off briefly the first

time he tried it and then it kind of floundered

and he went back and like we said Vince is 70

something years old he looks damn good for his

age but oh yeah it's going to and it's just crazy

with this With this WWE 24 thing it was cool

seeing like like finally seeing Naomi get her

journey and all of that because she's been trying

to do that since like season one of Total Divas

Absolutely, and and she's the only one that sort

of made it her and And Natalia are the only ones

that have really made it through yeah like through

the era change back from divas into the women's

yeah and i'm really surprised that it like at

first i thought oh they've kind of forgotten

about some of these women like becky lynch like

the whole first part of the revolution with becky

lynch and page and charlotte and all of that

i'm like oh they kind of forgot about becky lynch

didn't they and then now that i say that she's

starting to i'm starting to see her more but

we still have like the riot squad now and and

which is the We know. I will try not to say anything

bad except that what's her name, Riot. If this

was the 1990s and Vince was still in his hole

giving people weird wacky gimmicks, her gimmick

would be the owl or the woodpecker. I'll just

say that. Oh my god. That is a sharp looking

face. good lord boy it's a that's a that's a

interesting well that's very strapped on anyway

uh... w w e twenty four it was amazing to see

it was amazing to see the the uh... florida citrus

bowl whatever the hell it's got it should know

what the hell do you think is going to be with

it with the fit for that i think you know yeah

it was but that the actual stadium is called

something but anyway uh... it was really great

seeing all the behind -the -scenes so that's

what i love about these w w e specials folks

is seeing the behind -the -scenes stuff without

at least like i've said before I only really

watch the pay -per -views, Raw, and SmackDown

on a regular basis. I will watch one of these

specials and things to cover it on the show,

but I'm not doing this all of the time. I've

got so many other interests that I just can't

dedicate all my time into one thing. You know,

unless it's preparing to go see a Blackstone

Cherry show. Anyway, uh, it's just one of those

things where WrestleMania, it's WrestleMania

season and it's, you know, it's the thing to

do to look into it and whatever else and who

the hell knows what's going to happen. As far

as the time... Last year it took me, and I wasn't,

I hadn't met my wife yet. Last year it took me

two days to watch WrestleMania. Two... days i

could not sit here as much as i've sat in this

chair before not this specific one but at my

desk before watching a bunch of shit for podcasts

and recording and stuff i cannot sit for seven

and a half eight hours watching wrestling i'm

like oh god no stop it took me two days last

year now that i'm married have a life and everything

else it's probably going to take me a week to

Watch Rizzlemania! For the parts that nobody

really cares about, make them five minute matches.

Have somebody have a squash match at Mania because

you can use that to set up SummerSlam or something.

Oh, somebody came in to have a big match and

then bam, they got squashed. And then now they're

mad and they're gonna fight for... Not everything.

And you don't have to have every single person

on the card. I know they want to get paid and

they want people on there, but you know what?

These different battle royals they're putting

on there, you know where they could go? Pre -show

different day. They could pre -show. Yeah Our

pre -show with with two matches on there like

that You want the pre -show the pre -show should

be the battle royal and then have the commentators

talking about whatever other crap They got us

to talk about beforehand and put those on for

free Give those people on YouTube where you can

watch. Oh, here's the better And and you see

this and there's gonna be you know, seven other

matches You don't need 14 matches or whatever

stupid thing. It's gonna be Yeah. And that's

the thing about the Mae Young classic that I

liked was that each of those matches were timed

matches, 10 minute, 11 minute, 15 minute. It

was short, not necessarily squash matches, but

it was short, short matches. It wasn't this hour

long event type thing. Get your shit in, get

your moves in and then move on. yeah whether

you win or lose exactly and then you save let's

say because it's mania let's say you have four

matches that you're really going to care about

two from smackdown two from raw that are your

main events for each right that can take up your

last hour and a half oh yeah you don't absolutely

no and then you have an hour and a half of the

undercard matches so that's three hours and then

you have your fourth hour should be a pre -show

it shouldn't be you know from seven to eleven

is the show or seven to eleven thirty and then

you have two hours of pre -show yeah really if

it was seven o 'clock was the pre -show the where

they have those two battle royals and they last

a half hour each yeah then you got then you got

your your whatever and also don't forget they

put like a 15 minute singing thing in there too

like we really need to see kid rock talk you

know sing for any any length of time You're gonna

put you're gonna put kid rock in the Hall of

Fame, but not have Cindy Lauper in there That's

next year, maybe who knows well, here's the thing

she might have just gone not not worth it now

like Just before I finish my thought I was thinking

They still have to hold the field there's talk

that they might not even announce who Braun Strowman's

partner is gonna be My predictions are one people

have said that oh, it might be Ray if Ray gets

cleared. No, no, no. No feeling I have a feeling

nobody's been talking about him. He's a free

agent He's not tied to anything. He's not on

tour right now. I think Jericho He could pop

in he could pop in people like who's who's it

gonna be and then you know the lights Go down

and it's the countdown. I don't see brawn teaming

with like I don't see that I don't brawn is too

what his character not him personally the way

that they have marketed the bronze stroman character

and the way that his character is about i can

do anything i want to do no matter what now i

do it all by myself like they're gonna need somebody

like that that kind of breaks off and does like

i get the whole point is tag team it's supposed

to be tag team let's face it nobody expected

unless you were looking at the wrestling news

things i didn't expect ron stroman to come in

and be all the fucking tag teams because the

tag team division is atrocious at this point

yeah yeah that's what I was gonna say but I think

the sad thing is I think Vince is still mad at

Hogan that's the well Vince is only mad at Hogan

until Vince goes hey I've got the XFL and you

just won 300 million dollars we need investors

if he threw 50 million at him I wonder how fast

he'd be forgiven I don't know yeah I'm not sure

I'm trying to think of anybody else that could

fill it. Like, if he wants a small guy, Ray would

be the best thing to do. The contrasting thing.

Because they're not getting... Oh god. Oh god,

could it be Ellsworth? Please, no. Stop it. Stop

it! I won't. Okay, I won't do that. No, let's

throw in... Or CM Punk. No, that would never

happen. That is never going to happen. So it

wouldn't be him. Or... Daniel Bryan's already

got a match. Yep. So who do they, do they call

in a classic? Do they call in an old timer for

it or something like, uh, like, do they call

in a DDP or somebody just for a one time match

or do they call in? I don't know. I don't think

so. Like the only person I can. Yeah. Bad knees.

Yeah. And, and, or bad backs. Cause the one I

was going. Or wait, what about the big show?

That would be cool. That would be good on TV.

It hasn't been on TV. He's not hurt as far as

I can tell and he's still with them Yep, so that

would be a good eyes. Yeah come in he'll get

he'll get shared He's been away for like at least

six months. Yeah Yeah, that might be where they

go. Yeah, I like that idea the only thing I hate

about WrestleMania this year is Brock and Roman

We already saw that! If they hadn't set up the

cool thing of Braun doing the whole I'm gonna

railroad the tag team division, if they hadn't

set that up, what I wanted for WrestleMania for

Lesnar, I wanted Brock versus Braun. I've wanted

that ever since Braun came on the scene. that

would mean well we saw what happened when uh

when pran uh you know went a little too far and

actually gave him uh a knee to the head yeah

that's the last picture yeah that's true he gets

up and and he forgets that he's not in the ufc

and knocks really hard in the head yeah that's

true so that might i might it would be interesting

But I get the feeling that Brock would be like,

do you want me to murder him? But it's like,

Brock's going to do that to anybody, even like

Roman. Look at the setup of that. Look at that

storyline. Look at that setup. The whole coming

out and beating him to death with a chair and

all of that. I feel like this is going to be

so bad. The movie's 20 years old this year. I

have to reference it. I feel like. Bra I feel

like Brock is an oversized roided up tweeter

from varsity blues and No, no, no, that's that

that that's Roman and Brock is Billy Bob, you

know He's coming in like I'm gonna rip up your

arms and legs off and beat you to death with

them Like that's that's really a Brock Lesnar

is Billy Bob from from ogre from revenge of the

nerds no absolutely nerds that's right oh god

um who else could they get stone cold no they're

not gonna get they gotta get somebody either

he he wrestles alone but they can't do that they

gotta do something yeah speaking of i'm gonna

do it myself oh god no speaking of stone cold

he has been doing his own his steve austin show

but stone cold WWE podcast on the WWE network.

I don't think it's had an episode since I think

the last one was either the page episode or something

or other like that. I don't know. Um, yeah, it's

been 2016 since the last episodes of the stone

cold podcast on the network, which kind of sucks.

Cause I love those interviews. Well, he, he had

the condition that he gets to ask anything legitimately

and they were not allowed to know the questions

beforehand. and I think that's where maybe Vince

drew some issue because he gave him that permission

and then premiered the show with Vince McMahon

and then basically asked him, why are you burying

everybody and why are you cramming Roman down

people's throats? So I feel like Vince is like,

we're gonna get him. They're gonna like Roman,

damn it, no matter what, because he's gonna sell

merch. only i was just thinking here's the here's

the baby face that everybody gets behind and

it's been ballard that's yeah forty under here

injury -prone that's the problem that's the biggest

issue all right folks uh... i think that's going

to do it for us uh... w w e twenty four check

it out uh... for the rest of the episode to help

the other episodes we're going to be looking

at more of the WWE 24 episodes as well as some

other stuff on the network. How the show's going

to go forward after WrestleMania is we're going

to do the one pay -per -view a month and then

two or three, it's basically going to be three

weeks out of every month and we'll take a week

off either at the beginning, whenever the pay

-per -view is for that month because who the

hell knows now at this point until I look at

it but point is one pay -per -view a month after

WrestleMania and two or three w w e network specials

that could either be a ride along it could be

twenty w w e twenty four could be if they do

more three sixty -fives uh... it might be in

an x t match who knows but that's what's gonna

happen here may have might so it's not just all

of the paper you review seeing is that there's

only gonna be one of them now thank god maybe

you could actually cover the new impact ones

they do three or four times a year Hey, some

here you look at that and you go. This is where

all the NXT crew is gonna come from Yeah, EC3

is already joined Bobby Lashley is signing with

WWE again, so that's right. Yeah last time There's

gonna be some some people and he I mean he's

got some legit cred right now. So yeah, it's

gonna be interesting Last time I saw Bobby Bobby

Lashley was when he was shaving Vince McMahon's

head with President Trump The battle of the billionaires,

you know what? Oh, I'm sure Absolutely Because

it's gonna be the biggest dick competition ever.

I'm chairman of the World Wrestling Federation

Yeah, well, I'm the president of the United States.

So beat that They'd be like, so we're having

the G8 Summit, where's the president? Oh yeah,

he's at Summerslam. Oh boy. Oh boy. Where do
