I'm your host, Stephen C. Phillips, and in this
episode of the podcast, well, you've kind of
already heard on the little teaser on the intro,
but uh... Yeah, you're listening to the show
where pop culture and living in the modern era
collide and no topic is considered off -limits.
And if it's something you're geeky with or interested
in, then I want to know so that we can geek out
together. So, as always, thank you for tuning
in. And little side note for those interested,
this show, along with all of the rest of the
GeekCast Radio Network, being that they're hosted
on Blog Talk Radio, is now available also on
Spreaker. Because of that merger earlier this
fall of Spreaker and Blogtalk Radio, Spreaker's
app is now available to Blogtalk Radio users.
So yeah, that's another method you can listen
to the podcast on there, aside from iTunes, Google
Play, Stitcher, SoundCloud. geekcastradio .com,
alteredgeek .com, and a variety of other places.
Also, just of note, Altered Geek and Future Imperfect
are now also available on iHeartRadio on the
podcast directory. So expect the rest of the
Geekcast Radio network to follow shortly. We
are unleashing the geek in the internet, I guess.
So yeah, just be sure to check that stuff out.
So a little side note. I'm gonna kind of jump
around a little bit based on the the intro but
My my Christmas vacation story, I know it's not
Christmas vacation yet, but We celebrated my
son's fifth birthday this past Sunday and Today
it's Thursday. My son is actually officially
five years old today and We're having We're having
a good day Altogether and so yeah my my son Was
taking a nap on Sunday my wife ran to go do something.
I think she went to the store I'm not really
entirely sure she might have been working actually
that probably sounds about right But We were
trying to get the house all cleaned up and I
was outside because of as you know it's getting
colder with fall coming around the corner and
uh my wife more so I didn't want her to have
to deal with all the lawn stuff like putting
away the the yard furniture the the tables the
chairs um the fire pit a variety of things like
that so I put it all away I reorganized the shed
uh got out the generator because uh we In Michigan,
it's pretty commonplace to lose power if not
in the summer during a giant torrential rainstorm
than during the winter during a giant ice storm.
I have been fortunate that we've only had that
happen once since we've lived in this house.
We've also had it during the summer, so either
way, it wasn't a huge deal. But it's still better
safe than sorry, so I put that in my Florida
room and got that all ready. And then I was going
to clean out my gutters because we have two trees
that just drop leaves and we get about I would
say about 30 bags a piece So we'll end up with
maybe like 75 80 bags between the two trees of
leaves at the end of the season I mowed the lawn
a week and a half ago and mulched it and put
it in my garden so that it could break down in
there for that that aspect then my wife cleaned
up a bunch the other day, but the the Christmas
vacation moment as you can imagine has to do
with the gutters and So I got out this this extendable
ladder. I propped it up against my house Sunday
afternoon and this was about two two and a half
hours before the party was going to start and
So I I do that I climb up under the Florida room
roof and it's slippery. Mind you, it had just
rained that night, and it was starting to dry
up. Things were a little mildewy, so, excuse
me, I have the hiccups. So, I proceeded to throw
stuff off the roof and out of the gutters, and
then I about slipped, and so I was like, okay,
I should get down. So I get on the ladder. I
start going down. The ladder loses momentum.
It's rubber feet just drop out from under me
and the entire ladder Goes down I Know mind you
this drop isn't very far from my Florida room,
but if I happen to be on my house There's an
additional like three feet that I would have
dropped and so I probably would have broken my
leg But I came down. I smacked my shin on the
ladder skinned it. I was hanging from the gutter
and I managed to jump down. All the while, this
ladder comes down, bashes out the window to my
Florida room door, and glass everywhere in the
Florida room, all over the deck. My dog is standing
outside, decides that it's a good idea to come
up and see what's going on, so I have to like,
shoo her away. I have no pain other than my shin
at this point, and I drop to the porch, and so,
I go to get the dog, I go to move the ladder,
the ladder has fragments of glass in it, didn't
realize it, and, numb nuts me, I didn't go grab
my gloves, which I brought out with me, and I
put them down because I was on my phone with
my wife at the point prior to this, because she
was having to pick up some tools for me because
I'm putting in doors in my house, but I'll get
to that story after. So, I go to pick up the
ladder, not realizing it, get a chunk of glass
in the middle of my hand. Great. Bleeding gushing
so I have to get my dog before she steps on it
so I go get her so I'm bleeding I'm I clean her
feet clean my hand Grab a wad of paper towel
Masking tape my hand up Put the glove on go outside
start cleaning hour and a half later. You know
the party is gonna start so I'm like literally
20 minutes from from doing this and and yeah,
so I have to fix that window yet, but It was
just a fun adventure So yeah, that in addition
to the fact that we are putting in new hallway
doors. I had to replace the pocket door in our
bedroom to the bathroom, and that was fun, grinding
away part of the door frame so that I could fit
the door in there, and then putting the door
back together. So I've got all that set up now.
I've got the hinge in there. It locks, does everything.
Now I'm working on the bathroom door. Well...
The doors all come in a specific size. They're
either 28 inches wide by 80 inches tall and my
bathroom door needs to be 79 and a half tall
by 28 and 5 8s wide Yes, very specific there
or it won't fit in the door frame. So I've been
spending the last three days grinding away at
the door very carefully with a reciprocating
saw, which is what I used for part of the door
frame on the other door, because I cannot cut
straight worth anything with a table saw. I had
a hard enough time doing it with laminate flooring.
I cannot do it on a large pile of wood. So I
sat there and I was cutting this door and then
I eventually just got out the electric sander
and grinded away the rest to smooth it out. Now
I have to cut the door hinges and put the thing
in, and yeah, it's fun. And then I get to figure
out the other three, four doors in the house,
which I wasn't wanting to do. So yeah, there's
that, and I've been just trying to learn a lot
of stuff with that, and then of course next week,
I will probably not have... Granted, we didn't
do a Legends of the Brave and the Bold this week.
We won't have another one next week, and it's
hit or miss. I might have an All Things Transformers,
and I know I'll have a Future Imperfect. I'll
have a Future Imperfect for sure. All Things
Transformers kind of depends on what goes on.
I may do that on the fly. I'm not sure. And then
AlterGeek I will record later on. Probably Thursday
night, I'm not sure. Regardless of what happens,
I will be in Texas next week for Business for
Work, which they're flying me down. We're having
a big pow -wow for next year's radio network
endeavors. So I'm having fun with planning for
that. So yeah, just a lot going on. crazy, you
know, life, all that fun stuff. So I think I'm
going to take a quick break and have a little
word from our sponsors, such as Loot Crate, and
then move on to some of what's going on with
the internet this week. So until then, we'll
be right back. Do you love getting geeky gear?

little bit on Fox and Disney... a little bit
later. I kind of want to cover the what Ghostbusters,
Lord of the Rings, and Quantum Leap have in common.
And it's kind of what you think in that scenario.
The whole thing is that, one, they're all getting
revivals. Yes, that's right. Brand new television
series revivals, for that matter. Starting off
with Ghostbusters, We're getting an animated
series coming in 2018 and it's called Ghostbusters
Ecto Force. I have a feeling this is going to
be very much in the vein of extreme Ghostbusters
from the 90s because everything seems to be force
of something nowadays. That's just what it seems
like. There's no information on this thing yet,
no information on who's in it, no description,
but it's being put out by Sony Pictures Home
Entertainment and Sony Pictures Animation. So
I don't know how new or old this information
is, but I guess we're still waiting to see what's
going on with that. There was news of it last
year, and there seems to be more news kind of
popping up now, which is a little bit odd that
it's been dead silent. But I think that if they're
gonna do it, I think that pretty much the only
way it's gonna happen is animated, just because
the film's bombed so bad. Now granted, I don't
know why a lot of these things keep popping up,
especially when they're old news, but I saw one
that said something and it was dated this year.
Most of what I'm finding is from last year, but
I kind of wonder if this is actually going to
happen, just because of how bad the film bombed.
But the general consensus is that It was supposed
to continue the cinematic universe, focusing
on a new generation of Ghostbusters in the year
2050, who capture ghosts around the world and
help from local teams of Ghostbusters and new
gear and younger skewing thing being spearheaded
by Ivan Reitman and his production company Ghost
Corps. So I don't know if this is actually going
to happen. but it sounds very extreme Ghostbusters
sounding, so I guess time will tell on that.
The other thing is, is Quantum Leap and Lord
of the Rings are both getting talks of revivals,
and Quantum Leap more or less had a thing from
the creator Donald Belisario reuniting with Baccala
during a panel He says I just finished writing
a quantum leap feature. I don't know what's going
to happen with it, but I did write it So the
original series was on NBC from 89 to 93 It would
not surprise me if this came back and if they
did a revival It also would not surprise me a
Baccala came back for it because what else is
he doing right now? but if they're gonna go this
route, they're almost better off doing like the
next generation of quantum leapers and in going
a different route so I don't know it's it's kind
of an interesting interesting concept I didn't
really watch it all that much back in the day
I don't really have much love for it per se but
this is the decade of the revivals so I mean
we have Fuller House we have Roseanne coming
back we've got we had boy meets girl or girl
meets world out, we have Star Trek, we have just,
I mean there's a variety of things out there
that are just revivals of old stuff and so it's
not surprising that this is on the table because
it seems like everything from the 80s is coming
back in some capacity. So they kind of mentioned
that Sean Astin was asked to weigh in on Amazon's
potential Lord of the Rings TV show and There's
talks like they were trying to ask him if it
was gonna be like a Continuation if it was gonna
if he was gonna play Samwise again, and he's
kind of like no I kind of you know He kind of
is waiting to see Somebody else take on the role
at this this point in time But he says he's carrying
the Samwise banner for the Peter Jackson version
and the Amazon thing didn't even occur to him.
He said that he told Kyle Anderson on some interview
he did for Strangers Things that... He's been
saying for 15 years that maybe like 12 years
after Lord of the Rings came out that it would
get remade. People would be like, oh, no, it'll
never get remade. It's a classic. They could
never top it. And he's like, no, it'll get remade.
It's a massive story. The characters are so beloved
and, you know, it's Hollywood. So everything
is old and it's new again. That's why they're
talking about rebooting Harry Potter at this
point. So it doesn't surprise me at all. At all.
So getting to the kind of elephant in the room
here. I kind of want to touch on this and this
is the whole thing with with Fox and Disney There's
so many possibilities that could go on with this
from good to bad to ugly We'll start off with
the kind of good The good would be if Fox relinquished
control of all of their properties that were
that were very serious This would be a huge benefit
for Disney Disney would not only regain Almost
almost the rest of their their Marvel library
with the Fantastic Four the X -Men But they would
be able to open up after Avengers 4 with an entirely
different universe and focusing on bringing the
mutants in bringing the All these other iterations
of of Marvel characters into the mix and and
retiring some of the older characters and bringing
in these new ones You know and that would allow
them to recast like Wolverine and some of these
other characters and kind of do them all right
Not saying Wolverine wasn't good because he was
but I'm saying like the other X films That would
also allow Disney to put all of that content
on their streaming app And it would allow Marvel
to bring back some of those comics pertaining
to the Fox properties. So that would just leave
Sony on the table for the other Marvel properties.
That would also be good for Fox because they
would get to focus on what they're good at. Sports
and news, and that's about it. I mean, they have
their occasional, they're good at the other stuff,
but for the most part, they're better at the
other two. And when you think about it, the bad
for it would be you would almost have this huge
conglomerate in Disney that nobody could topple.
At least until people get bored of them. Because
you would have the rest of the Marvel Universe
to play with. And you would have, you know, they
would own essentially the Simpsons, they would
own like the Orville, they'd own like... Basically
anything that Fox owns you can see the Firefly
revival happen Which could be a good thing for
those that that followed it, so I guess I could
get filed under good But the bad thing would
be Disney would be overrun with all of this extra
property now I don't think that any other studio
is going to buy them up I think Disney this is
too good of a deal for Disney to pass up. I think
this will be something that sticks on the table
And I think that it will eventually happen I
just don't know how soon because if you remember
Fox was marketing around to different studios
prior to this Such as like Warner Brothers and
and some other ones so we could see some different
things happen in the next Year or two I'm predicting
Disney buys them just because of these talks
because I can't see Disney letting rip some other
company take this but it is a high dollar amount
for 20 billion dollars so they'd have to make
a lot of that money back the other thing is for
the the kind of ugly on it is you really won't
see anything new you'd have this huge playground
and essentially it would be difficult for I don't
see a lot of the properties getting made. I see
a lot of the stuff getting shelved. I see a lot
of the current storylines getting shelved and
completely rebooted. You could possibly see Deadpool
go away. You could possibly see like the Simpsons
go away. You could possibly see a lot of that
stuff go away just because Disney would not want
to keep funneling money into all these productions.
Another good thing that could be filed under
too is the the Star Wars a new hope which is
actually owned by Fox would be owned by Marvel
or not Marvel Disney and Lucasfilm again So that
that would be a good thing. I don't know. There's
a lot of ups and downs with this whole situation
and It's kind of kind of all over the place It
makes it really really difficult to gauge What
they could do with this and that's just because
Yeah, the whole thing with 20th 21st Century
Fox and in Disney it's just One I think it would
hurt Netflix a lot Already the shares are slipping
after the news for Netflix and that's just because
Disney is going to be putting its own streaming
service in 2019 so If 21st century Fox's materials
got put on that streaming service Netflix would
be done unless they they had their own a majority
of their own content to go from Because if they're
streaming other people's content, nobody's gonna
sign up for it Based on that alone. I personally
don't care much of what Netflix has At this point
because I just don't watch a lot of it But that's
neither here nor there. I don't know, what do
you guys think about this whole situation? What
are some things that you could see being the
good bed and the ugly of Disney buying 21st Century
Fox's entertainment division? I really would
like to know what everyone's thoughts are on
that. Even though it's stalled, it could still
happen. And that's the plus side. If you're a
follower of M. Night Shyamalan, whatever his
name is, the guy that directed Unbreakable and
Signs, he's working on this film called Glass,
which takes place 20 years after Unbreakable.
And they have Sam Jackson returning as Elijah
Price. who served as Bruce Willis's mentor of
sorts and in David Dunne so The the movie split
apparently takes place Before that as a part
of his kind of creepy universe So they have Sam
Jackson essentially in the same type of suit
although older as his villain glass and the the
film glass is Kind of a sequel to unbreakable
and split which I didn't even know split was
even a part of the same universe, but Yeah, they
Apparently have The They have they have Sam Jackson's
character basically playing against Bruce Willis's
son in the film and that's I think because Bruce
Willis Didn't want to come back or won't come
back or or something to that degree. I don't
know I'm kind of intrigued by it because I did
enjoy Unbreakable But I'm not sure I'm gonna
care when this comes out I might check it out
just because of curiosity sake but that's That's
that's kind of something that's kind of out there
So I'm going to take another quick break right
here and come back after the other side with
some other content. As you know, I love talking
tech. And what gets my jollies about tech right
now is they had the Business Insider UK on Twitter
interviewing Sophia, the artificially intelligent
robot. who previously said she wanted to destroy
humans. It was kind of interesting to watch the
interview with the Business Insider interviewer
against this robot talking and it would hold
kind of conversations, but at the same time,
it was a little bit confused or delayed, which
is understandable because again, it's a machine.
But it was making cognitive choices in its AI
as to whether or how to answer those said questions.
I don't know how I feel about AI robots. I really
don't. We're getting too creepily on the iRobot
stage here, and I don't know how I feel about
it. Although... If you're one of those creepy
men in Hollywood, this may be the way to go for
you. You could prey on a robot until they gain
that AI sentience and a female robot is against
the law. I'm not condoning that sick behavior.
I'm just saying that if you feel like you gotta
be a douche, you might as well use a robot because
you're gonna get hosed otherwise. Yeah, I...
It's just mind -boggling, the crap that's deflating
in Hollywood right now. I'm not even going there.
There's too many other resources out there covering
that whole diatribe. I'd rather stay clear of
it. And then, of course, aside from the AI robots,
we have Twitter doing a new change, which is
the longer 280 -character tweets, which I ask
why. I get that it's longer than a text message
used to be, like a text message used to be 140
characters so naturally Twitter was the same
way and now they've got 280 characters which
I've seen people abuse it already so far with
just random gibberish or drawing a picture of
a sword or filling it out asking why I've seen
people doing the reverse and acting like oh they
cut me down to 70 70 characters or you know something
to that degree which For how much crap is out
there? I think 140 characters was plenty and
just to deflate it to 280 is a little bit insane,
but I Guess they've got to evolve to some degree
although. I have no idea I actually have no idea
what Twitter's function actually is other than
the fact It's like an instant rapid -fire newsfeed,
and that's basically what I use it for and I
use it for a news feed slash instant messenger
feed, and that's pretty much how I sit on Twitter
now. It's not even that I follow a lot of it,
but I think that a lot of the stuff on Twitter
is garbage, especially with the way that people
conduct themselves but I don't I don't know how
I really don't understand it as much as I think
I do I just use it I don't really know how to
describe it I enjoy it much more than I enjoy
Facebook though I will say that changing gears
a little bit. Do you guys remember when I asked
the question of what would you do if there was
an IMDB for podcasters and then there was like
the IMPD or something to that degree that was
out not that long ago actually. Well there actually
is another service called Podchaser which is
essentially the same thing But you get to claim
your podcast in the feed, and it's got categories,
custom URLs, feed refreshes. And it takes it
from your iTunes feed. So if you're hosted with
Blog Talk Radio, your only issue there is going
to be the fact that Blog Talk Radio has their
email and not yours. So you're going to have
fun claiming it there because that's not ...
They pull it from your iTunes, which ... I don't
know if it's the best source to pull it from.
I use FeedBurner for everything still, which
I know is technically a no -no in the podcast
universe because you technically have a problem
if you got to redirect it. My thing with using
it is not for the statistics, not for any of
the other stuff. It's because I can go in on
a whim, I can submit the FeedBurner URL, and
if I need to change the hosting location of the
feed, which I've done on occasion. It's very
adaptable. And so, because I used to hand write
all of the RSS feeds on GeekCast Radio and then
I eventually had WordPress self -contain create
them. And then I moved on to BlogTalk Radio,
which compiles them now and I use those now.
So when I submit them, I do it as a feed burner
URL and I don't have to change them anywhere
other than there. And then it's automatically
updated at all the different resources, which
is what I love about it because it's a one hit
done service. So the other thing that's kind
of a pain is when you change the image and it's
pulling from the feed burner one, even if you
change it on your website or on a specific feed
somewhere, it's pulling from the feed burner
one. So it's... or sometimes from Blog Talk,
so it's a little weird in that area. But yeah,
Podchaser, I just found this last week, and it's
kind of interesting. You can search by episodes.
You can review individual episodes and comment
on the individual episodes on there. They don't
go by single podcasts. They go by the episodes
themselves. So it's a little bit different of
a resource. than what you're used to. And you
can actually join their Slack community to discuss,
to give feedback and discuss upcoming features.
So it's a little bit different in that operation
of itself, as opposed to others like that. So
yeah, I've not been playing a lot of games lately,
but... There have been some small things going
on in that world There's the the battlefield
1 DLC map which has has been released There's
the Xbox one X which I think is so ridiculous
of a name Why would you call it like it's bad
enough? We had the Xbox then we had the Xbox
360, okay? You just made a big circle. It's still
the Xbox. Then you have the Xbox One, which was
baffling enough. Now they have the Xbox One X.
I have no words for the naming schemes of Microsoft.
I would prefer they just went in order, but...
Anyways, it's basically Microsoft's attempt...
at getting us into the 4K territory. This is
the mid -cycle between the PlayStation 4 Pro
and the Xbox One X, which are basically the only
selling points, really, that's the difference
between the old ones and the new ones is you
get 4K resolution in the high dynamic range color.
And... So if you've owned a TV that is 4K HDR
for a while, you're wondering what the Xbox One
X would do for you on 1080p displays. They're
kind of expecting that about 70 other titles
will have the enhancements right around the console's
launch, which it's already launched November
7th. I don't really know how I feel about it
like It's got kind of like a Like almost a VCR
style to it This this box and so I don't really
know what the purpose is of it, but it's Aside
from being a console the the box includes a wireless
controller with two Duracell batteries and HDMI
2 .0 cable Power cable a 14 -day Xbox live gold
membership a one -month trial of subscription
for Xbox game pass The unit contains a one terabyte
hard drive and only seven hundred and eighty
point nine gigabyte of is accessible to users
Which I think is a bit crap like I don't know
what takes Like two hundred and twenty point
two gigabytes up But that's that's kind of strange
And then they they have it so you can copy your
games and apps to an external hard drive And
then copy them off that drive into the new console
Or you can connect both Xbox's to your home network
and transfer data directly between them So I
Mean, I guess it's kind of cool. I I've kind
of given up on the game console Wars I've gone
back to PC strictly. It's just cheaper and it's
easier for me. I don't really have any games
or reasons to switch to another console. If I'm
going to spend $500, I'm just going to have to
create my PC. And at this point, there's not
even a purpose in doing that. There's not enough
out there that I really want to play at this
point. But, I guess if you want one of these
new, you know, 60 frames per second type of consoles,
then, you know, go for it. But, you know, it's...
not really gonna help you all that much graphically
compared to the old stuff at least it doesn't
appear to be so and then of course you can upgrade
you know enhance it enhances older games if it
allows it but again that's it's just kind of
another gimmick for a mid console release before
the next console comes out so yeah we bundled
a couple of little specials here you know have
at it so And I don't know who remembers This
was kind of a battle going on a while ago about
a company that wanted to patent podcasting It
kind of a refresher here there was a company
called personal audio LLC which keeps coming
back with the claim it invented podcasting which
I Would argue is utter malarkey specifically
because they just seem greedy. It says that the
company started October 2nd, 1996, and they filed
a patent, essentially. It says an audio program
and message distribution system in which a host
system organizes and transmits program segments
to client subscriber locations. And it says that
another one, an audio program and message distribution
system in which a host system organizes and transmits
program segment to client subscriber locations.
It sounds like the distribution platforms, not
the podcast themselves. But it says the one patent
was... granted March 6, 2001, and the other on
March 24, 2009. However, they're claiming that
they own podcasting, in and of itself, not the
distribution platforms. I don't know how you
could patent something you didn't actually physically
make, or that... You like I just I don't see
how that even works, but It looks like back in
August a three -judge panel of US Court of Appeals
rendered the organization's patent invalid and
looked like that was kind of the end But they
weren't quite finished the organization's lawyers
argued that this three -judge review process
violated their constitutional right to a jury
trial So this week the appeals court rejected
this argument without comment These lawsuits
have been going for years back in 2015. The core
of their claim that the organization invented
podcasting, the podcast that should have to pay
it licensing fees, was invalidated after the
Electronic Frontier Foundation stepped in. The
EFF showed that podcast style shows existed well
before personal audio LLC's patent. That's not
to say this patent trolling is truly dead. because
it could still appear in the Supreme Court, but
it's kind of unlikely at this point. I think
these people are garbage. There's no way everybody
in the internet is going to pay them to have
their podcasts. We'll just call it something
else. It's a radio show. There's other ways of
doing the same thing. I think that this is the
most garbage thing. That they they could have
In their comments somebody puts I invented commenting
on news articles Everyone should pay me a royalty
not only for reading this comment, but for making
any other comments $10 per post is suggested.
Thanks And then somebody else says I invented
responding to comments. I want 40 % of your profits
I I know this is this is just the kind of stupidity.
That's that's kind of going on I think that this
company is just trying to come up with a way
to make money, honestly. They're seriously a
patent troll, which they're trying to sue any
podcaster. It doesn't matter who they are. There
have been podcasts around since the internet
debuted. They're just being significant trolls
about it. I guess when they received their initial
patent or their licensing, they were hoping to
get their licensing money from big name podcasters
such as like Adam Carolla and CNN. And then they
won some lawsuit against CBS where they became
a scourge of the industry. And then the US patents
officials dealt them their first blow by. quashing
some of their core claims of its patent. I don't
know, I think this is the biggest trolling of
the internet of podcasting that could be possible
and I love the fact that they're trying to get
this whole thing to basically screw everyone
on the internet, literally everyone. What I find
even funnier though is the United States Court
of Appeals for the Federal Circuit With the personal
audio LLC against the EFF Fought and essentially
it was ordered that the petition for the panel
rehearing is denied the petition for rehearing
Yeah The mandate for the court will issue on
November 8 2017. I think this is just a big giant
trolling situation where they're trying to control
the free speech, control all the mediums. I don't
know, what are your guys' thoughts on that? What
would you do if somebody was trying to tell you
you gotta pony up some money to be a podcaster?
I personally would fight it, but that's just
my situation. I would come up with some other
method of doing this exact same show without
necessarily doing in the same method to where
I'd have to pay them. I think that there would
also be a union coalition of podcasters at some
point, but That's neither here nor there And
then like I talked about the the hologram billboards
last week there's McDonald's is is having new
digital billboards that are Showing up in traffic.
So if you're in the UK They have out -of -home
campaign combines online and physical data their
billboards change depending on how bad the traffic
is. So like, if you're driving through a particular
bit of traffic, McDonald's says stuck in a jam,
there's a light at the end of the tunnel, and
then it's got a picture of McDonald's. Or, you
know, basically different methods of trying to
get you to pick up food. Yeah, it's very interesting.
that they would do this. And then there's another
one where it's in the front of a building and
it's got somebody Googling Big Mac and it's got
a picture of a Big Mac with a McDonald's thing
looking like an app on the building. And then
there's a lot of the stuck at the end of the
tunnel, stuck in a jam thing. I don't know, I
think it's kind of a genius because it kind of
makes you think a little bit more than the regular
ad billboards. I ignore billboards, but that's
just... because I don't pay attention to them,
I'm trying to pay attention to traffic. I don't
know, what are some things you guys want to hear
next week on the show or some things that are
geeky to you? I am fishing for comments and questions
for next week. I might do a live stream on YouTube
next week for my hotel room late at night and
I would of course tweet that out at scp21 or
at alteredgeek. So if you want to see me online,
just kind of let me know what you guys want to
do and I'll try to be online, try and answer
some questions and have a nice podcast to go
out for you. So until next time, get altered,
get geeky with the Altered Geeks.
