About this Episode
You are tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek. Dr. Geek. So yeah, this is it's kind of
crazy I was the funny thing was I was trying
to hit this episode before the four -year mark
Time didn't allow it's still gonna hit on the
four -year mark What is the four -year mark?
It funny thing enough it's It's I think it's
within a couple days of the Nine year mark of
ATTF You and your August premieres it just it
starts that way. I don't yeah sure Sure, it does.
It's not planned Don't lie Don't you fucking
lie? When did all things transformers? I think
it was like the third or the fourth of August
Version 1 .0. Yeah, you would have to find that
I don't know because it only I mean I Know I
know everybody hates iTunes and all that shit
But sometimes iTunes is the best thing for me
to look for the very first date I Wouldn't even
know on ATTF because Yeah, several times we're
not rebooting again I'll tell you that right
now. We've got a vision. Well, when we go to
break, I'll take a clip out of that episode.
The very first one that I can find. Okay. Of
when the show started. Of AGU or of ATTF? ATTF.
Okay. Wait, what? What? I'm going to use it for
the commercial break. Oh, okay. AGU, actually,
the four -year mark is on the fourth. August
4th. Which I'm pretty sure ATTF started on 3rd.
I could be wrong. I hate to correct you, but
according to iTunes, Altered Geek Unplugged the
Batman Superman Battles 1 hour 22 minutes in
the debut episode of the Unplugged edition of
Altered Geek August 2nd, 2013. August 9th was
Bad Embargo Trek 3 and Wars. Okay, so I guess
a little bit, but that's all right Yeah, all
you got to do is go back to the ATTF episode
where we did ATTF This is your life all of those
old clips that you're looking for the early ATTF
clips. They're all there Yeah, I put that remember
I put that episode together I'm wondering you
know what? Well, I don't have it on my computer
because it's backed up on a hard drive. I know
this is like way out there and people are like,
we don't care, play the show. We are playing
the show, we're being charismatic here, we're
remembering shit. Oh, that reminds me, I have
a new Dodd clip for you whenever anybody curses.
You mean like the three times you've done already?
Sorry, I'm counting We're not even ten minutes
in and he's already got three and they're all
different Hey, at least they're not all the same
Summer nester severity, but um Yeah, I I Yeah,
I don't know Well, this is the thing if I could
pull up the transformers network All of its because
I imported everything. But unfortunately, the
owner of that, their page is suspended for whatever
reason. And that person owes me money, so I don't
expect the site to go back up anytime soon. So
yeah, I think that the show debuted, it had been
around the same time. It was like the third or
the fourth or something. What, for HTTF? Yeah,
or yeah, in that particular year. Somebody tried
to steal the name of my show in 2011. For a blog.
I'm googling it, trying to figure it out. I could
have sworn HTTF episode one was August 9th. Because
it was a Saturday. Back in 2013. To the Tidal
Cave. Not 2013, 2008. 2008. I love Windows 10
that you can actually do time travel. Yep. Saturday,
August 9th, 2008. Yep. That's because I remember
the very... I think it came out the second though.
I don't know how we can tell. What is the...
When did Bernie Mac die? Ha ha ha ha! Oh, dude!
Not good! He... Yeah, he, um... It was August
9th. Yeah. Cause that's when he died. Yeah, see?
As horrible as that is to say. That's when it
was. Oh, that's horrible. I think I'm gonna move
on from this, um, diet tribe here. Yeah, I think
we need to get into something else. So I think
we're going to take a quick break and come back
with actual content, so we'll be right back.
So, after I've played that musical interlude,
unfortunately, and I know this episode comes
up a little bit dated, recording it to the day
it happened, but it's coming out obviously a
few days later, Linkin Park frontman Chester
Bennington has passed, as it were. which is unfortunate.
You know what the crazy thing is? July 20th is
Chris Cornell's birthday. Chris Cornell died.
Chris Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden,
lead singer of Audioslave, had a great solo career.
He did the Bond theme, you know my name. He also
died of hanging. But it's it's strange that that
the Chester would die of the same thing on the
guy's actual birthday On the other guy's actual
birthday. Yeah, I just Well, that's the one the
weird thing is is his close friend Chris Cornell
also died made by Yeah, that's what I'm talking
about. Yes Yes, I can't I don't understand what
Goes through someone's mind enough to do that
And I'm not saying people don't have that issue.
Yeah, because it's a serious issue that If you're
feeling that way you should get help Yep, because
it's never never the answer but um Well, we've
talked about this before when Robin Williams
passed away which Also, he hung himself as well.
That was a couple years ago. What is it with
everybody doing that? Like, why can't you just
take... I don't know. Like, OD or something.
Like, I mean, I'm not saying that either way
is bad or good, but I think it's because there's
no coming back from that. Whereas if somebody
found you early enough with drugs in your system,
they could pump you and you're good, but... Yeah,
I mean, you know, here's the thing. I've talked
about this before. When I was 14 years old I
tried bashing my head in with a lead pipe and
I tried hanging myself at the time I Was living
with my dad and my now ex -stepmother she had
physically and mentally and verbally abused me
and My mom was in no position to Come get me
All my dad had custody and I and that's how I
ended up a war of the state of Kentucky for from
95 to 99 You know suicide is not funny suicide
is very serious I want everybody out there to
know that if you've ever thought about it or
if you've ever considered it, please talk to
somebody I want everyone to know No matter how
bad you think it is, you can always talk to your
parents, a teacher, a counselor, anybody. And
if you think you can't talk to any of those people,
you can call the suicide hotline 1 -800 -273
-8255. That's 1 -800 -273 -8255. Please call
somebody because suicide is not the answer. I've
talked about this before. My mom... She her health
was declining and declining and declining and
she lost all will to really live She lost all
will to do anything for herself half the time
She was in bed the other half the time she was
sitting in a chair smoking a cigarette She would
very rarely move or walk unless she had to go
to the bathroom I was always and I'm not complaining
about when I say this I was always making her
meals bringing her stuff like that's part of
the job of taking care of your parent. But I
saw how dark my mom got. She told me on a daily
basis she wanted me to kill, she wanted me to
either let her kill herself or aid in her suicide
or whatever. And it's just not, I tried my best
to bring her up to see, to show her that there
is still positivity in the world and all this
and all that and it just would not happen. As
it happens, you know, she died of kidney failure
in the hospital, but that's a whole other story.
But suicide is not, it's not the answer, people.
So please, talk to somebody. Everybody's gonna
miss Chester. You know, you can say what you
will about the band, whether you like the...
rap rock genre whatever there are several songs
that lincoln park is done over the years that
i have absolutely loved you know i've i've said
this many times before i don't know if i said
this on this almost four years of altered geek.
Ever since i was a kid i always wanted to be
in radio. Obviously now we have the podcasting
thing we've had this for almost ten years now
whatever but ever since i was a kid i didn't
care about the fact that radio doesn't you don't
get paid jack shit radio. I just wanted that
environment, that dealing with those people or
hanging out with those people. In the year 2000,
when I was living in Mississippi, there was a
local rock radio station down there, 97 .9 WCPR
Rocks, and the morning show was Cruz and Rebecca,
and they were running a contest. Basically, the
prize was you could come into the studio and
hang out and see what they do and see how they
do the radio program. uh... and it basically
was say what what leer what backwards song lyric
is this and what song is it from and what it
was was was something from one uh... one step
closer lincoln parks the very first make me famous
hit uh... it was uh... shut up i'm talking to
you or whatever the line is in the song but it
was basically played backwards you had to figure
it out figure out the name of the artist name
of the song I did that, and I got to go into
the studio. They've had other hits that I like.
They've had other songs. I'll say this, Linkin
Park was never a band that I could listen to
cover to cover each album. But a lot of theirs,
like One Step Closer, In the End, Forgotten,
Papercut, A Place for My Head, To a Lesser Extent,
Crawling, which was another one of their big
hits early on, Somewhere I Belong. What I've
done new divide new divide actually was in revenge
of that well it was supposed to be in revenge
of the fallen You know the There's one now that
I noticed that I only noticed it from watching
Need for Speed a couple of years ago in the 2014
Need for Speed film They had a song in there
called roads untraveled And I absolutely love
that's my favorite Linkin Park song because it
just speaks to me so much I liked a lot of the
second album, but I remember going and seeing
Linkin Park locally. Which, funny enough, I think
the next band was... I still have the ticket
somewhere. I think the first band was like Korn.
Cool! I'd never seen them in concert before,
but then they had Linkin Park. And I'm pretty
sure Nickelback was next. maybe Nickelback or
Three Doors Down. I'm not sure which one. I saw
two different concerts that had one or the other.
I just can't remember who was in it. It may have
been the same one. I think it may have been like
an all -day type of thing or all evening thing
with four bands. So, I mean, it might have been
all four. They didn't sound the best in concert.
I will say that because like his screeching aesthetic
that Huntington does is amplified. But I still
enjoyed it for what it was, and three doors down
though, they sounded exactly like their CD. Yeah.
Okay, so here's the thing, folks. There's a huge
difference between being in a studio and having
soundproofed and having mics, and you know, I'm
not speaking to you, I'm speaking to the audience
when I'm saying this. There's a huge difference
in a recorded album track. What that the professionalism
behind that and don't get me wrong concerts are
very professional But the singers aren't gonna
most of the time they aren't gonna sound like
how they sound on the albums because it's a live
Venue, it's you know, it's supposed to be different
from the album and There are some that you know
sound great and there are some that don't sound
so great even though you still like those bands
I will say it's been 11 years since I saw Nickle
back in 2006 at Freedom Hall here in Louisville,
and Chad sounded pretty much the same. But, you
know. He was drunk during our concert, so. Oh,
don't... Okay, so we'll move on from this. He
was whipping beer bottles into the crowd. We'll
move on from this in a second folks, but I have
to tell everybody I did not go to this but I
because I'm I live in Louisville and I pay attention
to Louisville media Madonna came here She was
drunk as a skunk and she just was one of the
worst concerts in this town that this town has
ever seen But our point here folks is just you
ever really that good though Cuz we all know
her song like a virgin's a lie, but Yeah, cuz
she wanted you to justify her love Alright, so
folks on a serious note here Suicide is not the
answer talk to somebody if you feel you can't
talk to a family member a teacher a counselor
Whatever call the national suicide hotline 1
-800 -273 -8255 Chester Benningfield, may you
rest in peace sir? And the other thing too is
though, there's always somebody that's willing
to listen. Right. And help in whatever way they
can. And honestly, I would do it if somebody
needed somebody to talk to. It doesn't take that
much out of your day to sit there and converse
with somebody. Nope. And to know that somebody
cares is... Because really everyone wants to
know that. Oh, absolutely. So, moving on to some
other stuff that's... Can I bring something up
really quick that I found out about earlier?
How bad is it? It's more strange than bad. It's
actually been out for a while but they just released
a new one. So, every now and then I will go on
Comixology and I will look through various comics
to see what other franchises are out. And I found
that DC Comics has done three issues of KFC Presents.
Oh, I've seen that. The Colonel of Two Worlds,
Colonel Corpse, and the newest one just released
recently, Green Lantern versus Colonel Sanders.
Cover of Green Lantern versus Colonel Sanders.
It's finger licking never again And it's how
Jordan basically firing the Green Lantern ring
at the bucket of chicken These three comics will
be covered in the pull bag at some point So Maybe
I'll go into this. The Incredibles 2 They've
dropped some information on this with everything
going on with SDCC and D23 and I guess SDCC we
can talk about in like 201 Unless people really
want to hear about it in episode 200 and then
we'll cover it then but I'll be covering a little
bit of D23 stuff. So The Incredibles 2 is going
to be set one minute after the first film ends.
Yeah, I read that. That's awesome. Which is great.
Yep. And he wants to take, you know, Brad Bird
wants to take it in different directions after
that, which is cool. So I'm very stoked to see
this film when it comes out. Because I like the
first one. Yep. Now, what did you think of Cars
3? I loved Cars 3. Okay, I am probably the only
person... I will agree with you on that film.
Okay, well, wait a second here. Let me say this.
I'm probably the only person on the face of this
earth, or even in our galaxy, that somewhat enjoyed
Cars 2. Now, let me defend myself here. Yeah,
but I'm also the one that likes Ratatouille,
so... Yeah, that's true Which everyone else loves
but you yeah, I know So cars, you know came out
11 years ago It was a cool little premise. I
never really expected a sequel out of it, but
we all know Pixar at the time was big on, you
know, getting sequels done and things like that.
Cars 2, people will see as, oh, it's just Mater
and it's just this and it's just that and that's
fine. I liked it for the fact that you got Michael
Caine as like a James Bond type car, spy car
thing. It was alright. It wasn't, like, groundbreaking.
But Cars 3... Cars... Pixar... I don't know what
it is with their threes. Seriously. Toy Story
3 made me cry. Cars 3 made me cry. Their twos
are generally not very good. Toy Story 2 is okay.
It wasn't. That's what I'm saying. They're not
stellar. But their threes trump their ones. Yeah.
Because there's more there's more heart in the
third films Especially with especially with this
because you know they they use they used Unused
audio from Paul Newman, and that's how they got
him in the film because obviously he's no longer
with us for Doc Hudson Yeah, I was wondering
about that. I couldn't place whether he was a
new Yeah, what they had done was, as far as I
remember from what I read, what they, and I'm
not looking at it now, what they had done was
they had had previously unused audio from him,
from the first Cars movie, from the first couple
of Cars movies. So that's how they got the audio
that they put into Cars 3. Cars 3, I don't know
how they're gonna talk. I know Pixar has said
we're done with sequels, we're not doing sequels
anymore, yada yada yada. That's why they're doing
Toy Story 4. I know, I know. I think they're
doing ones that work, like Finding Dory wasn't...
I could tell you, anybody that can honestly give
a rip about it, like... It kind of blew over
like a ton of bricks when it came out. Yeah,
I Mean I I will say I did enjoy cars 3 a lot
and I really loved the the ending Of how everything
planned out or played out. Yeah It was very Good
for the franchise and for the get it Yeah, and
again, it was a learning tool for lightning.
You look at all three of those films. In the
first film, lightning is this brash, young rookie
who wants to take on the world, thinks he can
do anything and everything. The second movie,
okay, yes, it was mainly focused on Mater, but
there was a bit of lightning story in there and
things like that. In the third film... He's aged
progressively, the racing has changed, and he's
basically taken over Doc's role. Which again,
I love that they did that. I'm sure at some point,
whenever we can get more Tooncast Beyonds recorded,
we're going to eventually talk about the car's
stuff. I honestly do a commentary of the third
one, I liked it so much. Yeah. Which is odd.
Because I really don't like doing them. Yeah,
because you hate commentaries. It just, I don't
know, I really enjoyed the film. It wasn't one
that I sat there going, oh, come on. Although
the dancing bit was a bit much. The dancing cars.
In Cars 3? Yes. Doing the aerobics with the tires
and he's like, come on. At least he was groaning.
That made me happier. But uh, so what do you
think about the Lion King? Being redone by John
Favreau What the hell is foggy? Why is foggy
Nelson redoing Lion King? Well, I don't get that
what's what's interesting to me is that The only
voice that is the same James Earl Jones James
Earl Jones and it makes me laugh because he's
still Mufasa and nobody else is the same Yeah,
who the hell was cast as Scott? I remember hearing
somebody was cast as scar. Oh, yeah Hugh Jackman
was cast. It's not official. Oh, okay they have
Donald Glover who's been in a few things. Yeah,
he's He's actually the new what's his cat? No,
he's not a cat No, he's the new, um, uh, Lando
Calrissian in Star Wars. Oh, okay. Um, for the,
uh, the new film. But, um, so he's the new Simba.
Really? Yes. Seth Rogen is Pumbaa. Oh, gooooood.
Uh, Billy Eichner is Tumon, James Earl Jones
Mufasa, John Oliver is Zazu, which, whatever.
I'm fine with that It doesn't tell who anybody
else is though nobody else has been officially
cast yeah, but they've also Tim Burton's working
on a live -action demo and That one's gonna have
Eva Green Michael Keaton Danny DeVito and Colin
Farrell which I think it's funny Keaton DeVito
and Burton Last time they worked together So
that's the only reason I'm bringing that up because
I think it's hilarious. So yeah, that I'm not
gonna care about because it's Tim Burton. The
curiosity will be piqued because Michael Keaton
is in it. That's about where that goes. And then
of course the live -action Aladdin. They cast
the Pink Power Ranger from the new movie as Jasmine.
Yeah, that's Naomi Scott. Yep, and I couldn't
remember her name and then They've got Will Smith
playing the genie Which a lot of people have
been complaining about in my opinion of it is
Okay, I can see him playing because he's got
one of the most diverse acting styles Like he
can play sarcastic. He can play like crazy like,
you know Fresh Prince he can play very serious
roles. He can play, you know, just about anything
convincingly Yeah, and so I could see him doing
the some of the crazy stuff without making it
Ridiculous or kind of out of place like putting
his own spin on the genie without trying to copy
uh... robert williams but he's got his own comedic
style that it would he could fit really well
into that role see i think that the issue here
isn't so much that Will Smith is gonna try to
copy Robin Williams and my initial reaction was
and you know me long enough You know my initial
reactions are but my initial reaction was and
I said this on Facebook Robin Williams is rolling
over in his grave Okay. Now I say that half joking
and half serious because what I'm curious about
Okay. Yes, Will Smith has the job Disney obviously
that's what Disney wanted for this live -action
Aladdin I don't we don't know how he's going
to going to play it. We don't know what he's
going to do My problem is is everybody it knows
and is ingrained with the anime first and that's
why I have such an a version To well, I have
not watched any of the live -action Disney stuff
I have either but it's more so because I just
don't care about the the characters being portrayed
It's just, it's not even that. I prefer like,
I have no pro, this is the whole reason why Disney,
you know, why Walt Disney created Touchstone
Pictures so they could do more adult films. And
I get it, these are remakes of their animated
classics and whatever else. I prefer my Disney
in two different camps, animated stuff and live
action stuff. And don't mix them. Don't, again,
something we've said for almost 10 years now,
Hollywood. in general, not just Disney, come
up with original ideas. We do not need, this
year, this year alone, 2017 has been the year
of the remake or the sequel. Well, I'll get to
that in a minute because there's an upside and
a downside to this. Okay, so Walt Disney also
on their studio release schedule. This is their
2017 through 2019. They have Thor Ragnarok coming
out, Coco, which is a Pixar movie, and then The
Last Jedi. That's the last three they have for
this year. Next year, they have the Han Solo
film. They've got Wreck -It Ralph 2, which I'm
looking forward to that. Me too. They've got
Black Panther. which I'm kinda meh. Incredibles
2, looking forward to it. The Nutcracker, don't
care. Mary Poppins Returns, don't care. Okay,
so wait, wait, wait, before you go on. When I
saw that Mary Poppins Returns was on the list
on, because I saw an image on Facebook of like,
somebody took an image at SDCC of the TV monitor
thing or whatever that was. I saw Mary Poppins
Returns on there and my first thought was, Uh,
the only way I'm watching Mary Poppins Returns
is if Michael Rooker comes in and is Mr. Mary
Poppins. Because he's Mary Poppins, y 'all! Well,
what's funny is, um, Dick Van Dyke, who was in
the original film. Right. Uh, he played... In
the new one, anyway, he's playing, uh, Mr. Dawes
Jr. Okay. In the new film. In the original Mary
Poppins, which he also was in, he played Burt,
a cocky jack -of -all -trades, but he also played
Mr. Dawes Sr., which he was dressed up as. It
says that he played that character, so he's basically
playing the son. The descendant of the character
he played in the first film who was supposed
to be old in the first film And so he's actually
old here so it's it's kind of interesting to
me, but But yeah, so they've got that Ant -Man
and the Wasp I'll probably check it out, but
it's not on my high rated list I still haven't
seen Ant -Man and it's not that I don't want
to watch the movie. It's just I Have this thing
now And I've said this on the pullback. I've
said this other places. I watch things for enjoyment,
but I also watch things to talk about them on
podcasts, or I read things, or I listen to things
to talk about them on podcasts. I do not keep
up with it. Maybe we can do this as part of 200.
Maybe we can have powers on for at least part
of 200 for this. The cost of going to the movies.
Okay, we can talk about this later, but we all
know the movies are expensive as hell to go to
today, and I would just rather wait for media
release. Well, and that's the thing now is you
can actually rent movies now through your cable
provider. Yeah. Within a couple weeks of them
being in the theater, and you can rent it from
your own home for like, I think it's like $10
to $12 or something like that. And you can see
it from home and not have to actually go out,
which... But it's got that time delay, so you
still have to wait because they want maximum
revenue in the theater. But yeah, I keep up with
them. I don't necessarily watch them all. And
then there's A Wrinkle in Time, which Chris Vines
in. That's the only reason I clicked at it to
begin with. I remember reading this book in grade
school. Barely remember it. I don't remember
anything about the story. I just remember having
to read it in grade school I don't remember anything
about the story at all, but it's I remember it
was weird and Then I saw the trailer and I was
like, yep, definitely weird And then so yeah,
I'll probably check that out as well, but it's
kind of freaky they got Oprah in it She's one
of the weird time traveler things Then there's
Avengers Infinity War which I'm stoked about
Obviously, we all are yep, and then going to
2019 They have Captain Marvel interested in that
Because if it's anything as good as Wonder Woman
will be set Avengers Infinity War part 2 whatever
they're gonna title it yeah looking forward to
that Toy Story 4 and Star Wars Episode 9 The
others are all live -action of the animated versions
of Disney movies in The Lion King, Mulan, Dumbo.
They're gonna have a Frozen 2, and those four
films I care nothing for. And then there's an
untitled Disney Toon Studios movie coming out
that year. So... Yeah, full slate for Disney.
Yep. So... But yeah, I just had to get that off
my plate and then of course Fox is is working
on a Doctor Doom film Which I hope that they
could just get the costume correct for once and
the character Just get the costume to look like
the actual Doctor Doom for once but time will
tell I guess because you know it at least the
the hokey ones with everybody from the original
theater Fantastic Four with Chris Evans and Jessica
Alba and all those, at least that one, Dr. Doom
somewhat looked like his character and he wasn't
that weird green thing in the last movie. But
the thing with the franchise sequels, There was
an article in the UK that says Hollywood's obsession
with franchises is costing studios millions.
Because, again, it's the whole tent pole thing,
which my teacher I got on a large conversation
with when I went to college and it was fun to
do because studios buy tent poles when they're
out of ideas. Because it's just printing money.
And so they have Transformers 5, Despicable Me
3, Pirates 5, King Arthur, The Mummy, which have
all underperformed. I have yet to see Despicable
Me 3. I've heard it's okay, but I've heard that
it suffers the Spider -Man 3 issue with too many
plot points, too many plots in the same movie.
See, and I heard that as well and I skipped it,
but Pirates 5 was actually really good. It was
actually came out. I wasn't even sure if that
had come out yet or not pirates five Yeah, yeah,
it was it was better than the last three Which
it was it felt like I was watching the first
movie all over again, and they wrapped up the
whole will will Turner Plot line which means
I got to do an M wire on Pirates five since I
did the last four I did the first three on a
row and then that fourth one came out like a
year or two two years later and then So yeah,
I'll have to do that. And then there's King Arthur,
which is a remake of a remake of a remake of
a remake. Same thing with Mummy. The Mummy I
saw that was terrible. It was like watching Mission
Impossible meets the Brendan Frazier Mummy movie
meets like the museum. No, it was like meeting
like the worst like B film that you could find
and just smashing it together. It would be like
that. Time Cruise Mummy should be on Mystery
Science Theater. It's so bad. And The Transformers
the last night actually was bad, but not as bad
as I thought. So, it wasn't terrible. Yeah, I've
only seen the first hour and 30 minutes of it.
I... But yeah, so I mean overall like... all
these tent pole movies. I mean, they try to make
Baywatch something again and that bombed and
then they made... Let me ask you, I don't remember
if we've talked about this or not, but have you
seen the trailer for Jumanji, the Rock Jumanji?
I'm actually excited for that. The first thing
I thought of was Captain N because they all get
sucked into the TV. They wanted to go a different
route because they didn't want to retread over...
The Robin Williams movie. This is actually a
real sequel. Yeah, but it doesn't it takes place
like because, you know, remember they threw the
board game, the game in the water. Yeah. Well,
it washed up on a shore somewhere. And then,
yeah, it ended up in the basement of a school.
Yeah. I mean, I don't mind it. All I'm saying
is when I saw the trailer and I saw them get
sucked into the TV. The first thing I thought
of was Kevin Keen, Captain and the Game Master,
because that's what happens to him in his intro.
He gets sucked into the TV. That would be an
interesting movie to see them make today. Captain
and the Game Master? You bet your butt it would
be. And you know who should play it? Matt Hill.
No, I meant for live action. If they were going
to do animated, I would be inclined to agree
with you. However, if they're gonna do an animated
version or not. No animated live action. I think
that they should use the new spider -man Tom
Holland. Yeah, that could work because he's got
the snarky and he's got the look I think he could
play it really well Yeah, that could work. So
Yeah, I I would definitely be down for that If
they they came out with that it would be I don't
know. It'd be something different. So Again be
pretty fun So should I move to some of the other
more fun movies that are coming out this year?
Since I keep track, I have a tracker thing at
the bottom of alteredgeek .com, which I should
probably add to GeekCastRadio. You probably should.
And then attach them to the tags of other movies,
but that's neither here nor there. That's whatever
you want to do. So we got the next movies coming
out that I'm actually like pumped for like Blade
Runner and which I have never seen the original.
I probably shouldn't. I haven't either, yeah.
Maybe that would be a fun experiment for M -Wire.
Yep. Before it comes out doing the first one
and then doing the second one shortly thereafter.
Kind of like how we did Tron, yeah. And we've
done Kingsman and I'm looking forward to the
second one. I always shared that and I never
watched it. I'm gonna go back and watch it I
I saw the original the first trailer trailer
the second trailer so much better Okay, I was
gonna be like the first one only better Kind
of like the Thor Ragnarok, which I'm also excited
for, and Justice League, and Last Jedi, and Jumanji,
and then Super Troopers if that ever comes out.
When is that coming out? When is Super Troopers
2 coming out people? Because they did that, not
Patreon, they did that Kickstarter like last
year or two years ago or something. Well they
did it, yeah I remember they did it a few years
ago because I was like, okay. I mean that's obviously
gonna be rated R and it's yeah. Well, yeah, and
it's gonna be They're saying it's supposed to
come out this year Even though they took everybody's
money two years ago. Yeah, and then they they
shot the movie Well, it says it says that um,
they had a small test segment shot of the film
And they began full production in August of 2016.
And then they also had a bunch of other people
join the cast that were pretty high profile in
September of 2016. And then that was the last
news article was in September of 2016. There's
literally been nothing else, because it was just
casting news. Yeah, and I'm like, what happened
to this? I'm kind of sad because I'm like...
I liked the first movie, even though it was like
a cult classic. And they updated it January 3rd,
2017. They've got Linda Carter back as the governor.
They've got Rob Lowe in it. They've got Brian
Cox back in it. They've got a bunch of other...
I mean, they got most of the original cast back
that was from the... Original, yeah. Yeah, that
was worth bringing back. And so, I don't know,
I'm still waiting to hear something. Maybe I
should reach out to them. That would be kind
of cool. Maybe I can get an answer. I should
do that. Yes, you should. Good bookmark it. But
contact them. So I guess we'll hear back from
that in a couple weeks. I'll give my results
And then yeah the Kingsman I'm looking forward
to the Blade Runner like I said, and then of
course, there's a new there's a Mega Man movie
in the works Which I just saw like yesterday.
Yeah and I guess 20th Century Fox has been trying
to secure the rights for it for over two years
and then That only happened earlier this year
And yeah, they're it's it's gonna be done by
Two directors known for doing the third and fourth
paranormal activity And then their last film
was nerve They've done a lot of crappy movies
obviously people directing and so I'm not enthusiastic
about how that's gonna turn out but yeah I don't
know, I would be more excited to see Mega Man
X than the original Mega Man because we've gotten
the original Mega Man. Yeah, because Mega Man
X is a futuristic story. It is a dystopian future,
but it's not really. You look at that original
game, those worlds were beautiful even though
they were run by villains. that story of having
to, you know, live up to the name and this, that
would make a better movie than the original Mega
Man game would. Oh, definitely. So, our good
buddy at Nightbeat on Twitter, Ryan, the name
Flo Merkley, mentioned this to me when I was
recording something with him before we recorded
this, about... SDCC and the Rodimus Prime Hasbro
figure. I actually like these Power of the Primes
figures that they have now, because you can turn
Rodimus into Hot Rod. Yeah, but it... His alt
mode looks like crap to me. It looks like it
was put together... worse than a single wide
trailer in a trailer park. Not that there's anything
wrong with trailer parks. His robot mode just
looks blocky as all hell. You look at his chest
and it looks like his chest plate does not belong
on his body. Well, they're almost going the Power
Master route. Yeah, I kinda see that, but...
He doesn't look like Power Master. You put original
Power Master Prime up against this thing. Power
Master Prime dwarfs over it. But, you know, you
look at the pictures that our good buddy OptiBotamus
on Facebook slash TeamBotamus put up of this
thing. And the back of him is all open because
he has two different spoilers, because like you
said, you can switch between Hot Rod and Rotomus
Prime. but there isn't really like they don't
even show him in hot rod mode in vehicle or robot
and you see right through the back of him to
the front of him and I don't like the figure
I'm sorry if people like it fine good for him
whatever as a die -hard hot rod Rodimus fanboy
I don't like this well I never said I was gonna
buy it but no I said it was kind of cool I just
you know I yeah it's something different No,
we are like different different man different
So with that we'll take a quick break come back
with the the remainder of the show on some different
variety of topics So we'll be back after this

You can get it on iTunes, on Google Play, on
Stitcher, and on TuneIn, Blog Talk Radio, as
well as AlteredGeek .com. And now, back to the
show. And we're back. So, speaking of things
that are a little, uh, button -pushing, you could
say, um, the internet kinda lost its crap the
other day because Dr. Who and BBC decided to
make the 13th Doctor a female. Yup. Which has
in turn started a plethora of things in the vein
of saying for instance Chris Hemsworth decided
that You know he could say He believes that the
next James Bond should be a female Yeah, to which
I've heard people on both sides of the fence
there Complaining of why it would be Good idea
to not do it and why it's kind of Kind of a An
okay thing if they can keep the character without
being You know altered too much you could say
yeah Which I could care less because I've not
watched any of the James Bond movies prior So
it doesn't affect me one iota. Yeah, I could
care less either way. However that being said
If they're gonna go that route and they are gonna
you know, I know it's just speculation and people
just run in their mouth Which is typical of internet
culture anymore. Just everybody going hey I Think
that this sounds like a good idea because I'm
an actor and I just I really want to have people
listen to me Mean how many times have we joked
and we're joking when we say this and this is
one of the reasons why I don't report on Actors
saying things on social media Well, okay, but
yeah, but how many blows it on a proportion into
a clickbait article, which we'll talk about soon
Yeah, we'll talk about that in a minute. Okay.
Okay, but how many times since we've been podcasting
in the last almost decade or more have we not
reported on news or an actor saying something
about, you know, I'd really like a role in the
new James Bond movie. That's an actor just asking
for a job. That's not a news item. That's not
them saying, hey, I got this job. You know, that's
them, I don't want to say begging for a role,
but that's them basically putting themselves
out there saying, hey, I'd like to do this, you
know, because everybody wants to work. And it's
also getting the public. To agree to it because
if the public is like hey, yeah, I think he's
right then they're more likely to get it because
Studios tend to go where the money is and if
people have enough people back it Then they'll
be like, hey, let's do it So it's like Nike just
do it that's right for the monies So you talked
about things that push our buttons before we
get into clickbait. Well, before I get into the
clickbait part of it, the thing I was going to
mention about the whole thing with the Chris
Evans thing is that I was listening to some people
earlier today. Chris Helmsworth, not Evans. That's
what I meant. That's okay, there's too many purses
in the universe is you get Chris Pine Chris Evans
You know Chris Hemsworth one too many steves
and not any of them are real. Yeah, that's that's
like that That thing that the two steves on a
plane or the the steves on a plane thing that
somebody did the image of and then I inserted
myself With an actual Steve Yeah, so you should
put that you should put that image in the post
it actually is going to be I already made the
post ahead of time, so I knew I was going to
bring it up. Before we get too negative talking
about things that push our buttons and all that
and the click bait and things like that, one
last thing I want to mention from SDCC because
I just now saw it on Facebook. Tara Strong posted
three hours ago. Favorite thing shut up favorite
thing about cosplay folks asking for my pick
and having no idea. It's me hashtag SDCC 2017
hashtag batgirl Wow, she looks good in the batgirl
costume. Yeah, she went as Harley Quinn last
year. Yeah, yeah It's the it's the black and
gold black and yellow batgirl costume because
that's what she had in New adventures cuz that's
when she voiced batgirl Absolutely love that
but yeah, I mean The thing that drives me nuts
about This particular conversation was it was
said that you know What are they gonna do change
Thor into a female next and blah blah blah, and
I'm like well I'm sitting there listening to
this and I'm like actually they did that A year
ago like two years ago like they they It's not
the same Thor, but they, you know, just the same
kind of route that they've turned Iron Man into,
you know, Riri. And then they've turned Captain
America to, you know, a black guy, you know,
in the comics and everything. So, I mean, they've
all changed it. It's not, you know, they're just
trying something new because comics just aren't
selling like they used to. So in that that regard
I I thought it was kind of humorous and I was
like I Listened quite often and I scream at my
monitor Frequently So I'll just leave that there
but yeah, and speaking of clickbait Maybe you
should start that off since that was your oh
Okay, so I was I wasn't able to find that it's
been too long. This was a couple of this might
have been a week ago or more And I have now unfollowed
Screen Rant, Combook Resources, a whole bunch
of stuff on Facebook. Look, I know I need to
keep up with the news and all that stuff and
everything else, but if Combook Resources can't
put out actual news articles that are not clickbaity,
they put out something that said something about
Who are the best Spider -Man? Who's the best
Spider -Man in the last 15 years? And the whole
comments section blew up. Basically, everybody's
saying, Tobey Maguire's the best, no matter what,
yada, yada, yada. And my position is, 15 years
ago, when we didn't, right before, 16 years ago,
right before we didn't have a Spider -Man movie
yet, in 2002, when we got the first full -length
Spider -Man movie, classic Spider -Man, it was
great. He was great because he was the only one.
He was the one that went and did it and whatever
else. At the time, 15 years ago, I liked Tobey
Maguire as Peter Parker and Spider -Man. 15 years
later now, I can't stand Maguire as Peter Parker.
I like him as Spider -Man when he's in the suit,
but I can't stand him as Peter Parker because
I think he's too geeky. Yeah, I mean, I watched
the movies, you know... back back then and I
saw them in theater and it was kind of they were
good back then but now just to go back and watch
them they're not there they don't hold up okay
okay spider -man 1 the original it does The three,
okay, Spider -Man 3, everybody can argue about
that all day long. The first two are all right.
They're okay. They're good. Do they hold up to
today's standards of comic book movies? No, they
don't. None of them do. None of the original
three hold in their own vein before the Marvel
Cinematic Universe came around six years after
the first Spider -Man movie. It might have been
fine. Fifteen years later, we've had so many
that the comic book genre for films and the superhero
genre for films has broadened so much. And then
you got Garfield in The Amazing Spider -Man 1
and 2. And say what you will about the plot of
Amazing Spider -Man 1 and 2. I liked Garfield
at the time because of several things. Mechanical
web shooters. I felt he was more snarky and more
quippy as Spider -Man and Peter Parker. And just.
I just enjoyed a different Peter Parker. Now,
I have yet to see Spider -Man Homecoming as of
this recording. I'm probably going to watch it
after we're done with the recording, but I have
yet to see it. But everything I've seen leading
up to all the trailers, all that stuff, all the
interviews I've seen with Tom Holland at various
conventions and things like that, my contention
is he's the best Spider -Man right now. And that's
kind of how they all go. It's like... Yeah. Oh,
that's the best Batman for now. You know, I mean,
it's just they all go on in cycles of, you know,
filmmaking. So, I mean, it's all relative. So
we'll see. We'll see. But yeah. And then, of
course, we've had the information about Kermit
the Frog having been fired for being a douche.
so And what I've heard is from the Henson's and
from Disney is The actor that played Come with
a frog Steve Whitmire. It was a complete dirtbag
and a drama queen Whether that's true or not
They obviously had to have a reason because think
about it too though you've seen all those like
digital shorts that they had without Kermit for
like the longest time. Yeah. Which was probably
because the guy couldn't be worked with very
well. Yeah. Okay, look. And so, like, he's complaining
about it now and they're having to recast him,
which, hey, um, they could call either me or
Neil. We'd like a job, please. I have to learn
how to operate a puppet, but... You know, I got
one where I stick my hand in him. Oh, no. So
I already. Yeah. So this is new news to you,
but I've already talked about this on nerd news
over over on Twig about the fact that the guy
got fired and the fact that, well, I need to
update the story when we record next week about
that. Henson has now said something. The fact
that Henson said he should have fired him back
in 1994 or whenever. At this point in time, for
me, it's not about the fact that the guy got
fired. It's about the fact that Kermit the Frog
is going to have a different voice for the first
time in nearly 30 years. 1990 was 27 years ago
when Jim Henson passed away and Steve Whitmire
took over. Now, a lot of people, not me, but
a lot of people noticed the change. I, for some
odd reason, didn't notice the change. Well, I
wasn't old enough to notice the change, but there
is, I can definitely hear it now when I watch
older and newer stuff, but I guess even the actor
was such a pessimistic dick that he altered part
of how Kermit the Frog sounds. Well, not how
he sounds, but how his mannerisms are, because
he would just refuse to do it. if they didn't
rewrite parts of the movie for them or the content.
No, granted the ABC show I think was complete
garbage that came out. There are only a couple
of lines from Kermit in that that I actually
enjoy. The reason why I think the ABC show did
not work is for one simple reason. You cannot
take something and call it the Muppets or the
Muppet Show and have it centered on one Muppet.
You center it on the group. Look at Muppets in
Space, the Gonzo movie. Not a lot of people like
that movie. Not a lot of us do. With the Muppets
from 2011, the television show from ABC, they
put Miss Piggy as the Conan of the Muppets. Would
rather watch Conan than watch her do a late -night
show and I can't stand that guy There are certain
Moments in the first couple of episodes of that
show that I like Kermit's quotes But other than
that, I I just I started I stopped watching the
show after like the sixth episode or so. I Know
I just couldn't just couldn't handle it my worry
now I know there's plenty of sun you know i know
there's plenty of sound of likes in hollywood
like you already said give you were neil a job
or help give it to you both have neil run the
puppeting and you do the voice or vice versa
doesn't matter it's one of those things where.
My worry is whoever they get even though they
could find a sound like what if they don't want
to find a sound like what if they want kermit's
voice to be different that's my issue. My my
boat too is like you'd never know Yeah, and and
I don't really want to hear a new Kermit He's
he's he's kind of been you know And then wouldn't
that mess with continuity though with like yes
And yes, you know cuz Kermit used to you know
kind of be that guy that just kind of show up
and well yeah cuz I forget what I forget which
one is which but Kermit and Fozzie were also
Bert and Ernie. Oh That makes sense You know,
I hope that they keep the voice I think yeah,
I think if I'm remembering this correctly, I
think Bert and Kermit were the same voice and
then Fozzie and Ernie were the same voice And
again, it was all Jim Henson at the time So,
you know I Don't know it's at first I was sad
about it then I was kind of worried about it
and we'll just have to wait and see and let's
face it Ever since Muppets most wanted Disney
has mishandled the Muppets the whole damn time
The only thing for the Muppets I see them putting
out is those Muppet moment of the week with Deadly
or Deadly or whatever his name is. And then they
cut to a Muppet saying whatever the little quote
that they say. So Disney is not doing anything
with the Muppets right now and it sucks that
they're not. While I'm hopeful that they'll figure
something out, like, it's just kind of, you know...
Until then, we'll just have to wait to find out
who's going to be up Kermit's butt next. Oh,
dude! Moving on! Well, because the guy was, you
know, he was an a -hole, so it was from what
I've heard. But I hope not. I mean, I hope the
guy is just, you know... He just had issues,
maybe. Or got too big for his britches. That's
usually what happens. So that aside so Mary and
I are trying to learn how to play guitar Okay
Just we bought she bought one on like Craigslist
type of thing not actually Craigslist. It's like
Like Facebook list. Yeah, it's like Facebook
sale sites for local sales stuff and She bought
it for like 30 bucks, but it's I guess it's a
name brand. It's pretty good Les Paul No, it's
it's Gibson. No, it starts with an E. It's it's
made in America though. That's that's all I know
Okay so It's I'd have to look Okay, don't don't
oh it's on my phone. I should I took a picture
of it earlier Like what kind is it? What kind
of strings are on it? But like I'm like I have
no idea mom I'm like, we just got it. It's Epiphone.
Oh, I've never heard of that. I'm not all that.
They've been around since 1873. Okay, that's
fine. I've just never heard of it. Yeah, I've
never heard of it either. If it were like Gibson
or, you know, like Fender or something, like
I would have known right away. But yeah, I have
no idea. So anyways, we're trying... to We're
trying to Learn how to play this and it's not
voting well so far, but we've only had it like
a couple days so I Definitely need to get a Guitar
pick Because I cannot I can't use my fingers
because I fat finger the cords, so it kind of
sucks, but my wife has gotten the grasp of it
better than I can, which is not surprising because
she's very good at picking stuff up and learning.
Marry the mom Phillips the new rocker for GCRN,
right? You wish So but yeah, I mean it's it's
um It's uh, it's it's been a process I'll just
say so Peek on caught Michael and I have been
pre recording a lot of the podcast the Phineas
and Ferb podcast stuff We're up to pre recorded
up to episode 54. We just released episode 51.
So I've been not necessarily releasing them daily
I've been kind of releasing them every couple
of days so we can still have a buffer but we
just recorded the summer belongs to you special
and In that, it's basically Phineas and Ferb
and their friends want to go around the world.
It's the longest day of summer. They want to
go around the world in 40 hours. In the episode,
as they're coming back home to Danville, there's
an annual substitute teacher convention in the
park, and they're in a super giant paper airplane.
Michael's wife is a teacher. I had to explain
that. I'm like, your wife is a teacher. How do
you not get the fact that those were substitute
teachers and it was a paper airplane? Well, in
my defense, she's a principal now. It doesn't
matter. She was an educator. She's still an educator.
Your wife is... So funny. I have a blast doing
that show. God. So, yeah, I mean... Yeah, as
far as Phineas and Ferb, I have no idea. I've
watched very minimal of that. Now the Milo Murphy,
that's more my pacing. Well, that's because it's
Weird Al. Yeah, I like the voice. A lot of it
has to do with that. I'm very biased. If it's
Weird Al, he's like gold. We I had planned for
the three of us to talk about Milo Murphy, but
You know, California and all the other bull crap
that happened last year. So we are still going
to talk about it in between Episode 60 and 61
because episode 60 of the Phineas and Ferb show
is the season to wrap up and episode 61 is the
Season 3 starts, so we'll do it at some point
later this summer. So, yay! Yay! And then, of
course, we're working on the next Top 100, so...
Yeah. So, we'll see what happens there. Yup.
I don't really know if I have anything else on
my plate. I think, you know... I think that's
about it. We've talked about a lot of stuff.
SDCC, Doctor Who, death of Linkin Park's lead
singer. Once again, folks, suicide is not the
answer. Please talk to somebody. Remember, it's
not an option. Just take it off your table. It's
not for dinner. I'm trying to make a lighter
joke on it. Yeah, but it's it's I mean, it's
not a laughing matter, but still it no Yeah,
I mean, you know, and I'm not trying to drag
show down here I just want people to know, you
know, there are options. There are options. I'll
give the number again I've given it several times
throughout this episode 1 -800 -273 -8255 the
national suicide hotline if you can't find somebody
to talk to in your family your school Policeman
anybody call the suicide hotline if you're having
suicidal thoughts So I Wonder who Hasbro is going
to get for their licensed theme songs for the
next four Transformers movies now that you know
I don't know. I mean, Nickelback was in 3 with
Burn It To The Ground, so... So it was not far
off from what the movie did. I guess not, no.
So... So yeah, I mean... Join us next time for
episode 200 first podcast on the GC RN that reaches
200 podcast episodes What yours it's going to
know it will okay, so As of this recording, I
just recorded, or I will have already recorded

I guarantee you, I will race you to 300 for the
pullback. Yeah, because I do a weekly show and
you do like 50. Yeah, I know, right? I'm going
to beat you. Yeah, so I mean if there's anything
you guys want to have brought up on the next
episode on episode 200 I'm planning on doing
it as a live show So I haven't figured out what
day I'm gonna air it yet And it probably won't
be it may or may not be next to it same week
as this episode. I'm not sure But I definitely
want to Have fan interaction of any kind so I
mean if you guys want to you know email mp3s
in if you want to send an email Do you want to
send any comments questions suggestions of topics?
Definitely be open to that And then kind of just
seeing where things go from there And I'll of
course have things to bring up as well Regardless
if you know nobody shows up, and I'm sitting
there talking to myself live, then I guess that's
how it will be, but we'll see. Yeah, we'll see.
So until next time, get altered, get geeky with
the Altered Geeks.
