Altered Geek
Flash Pilot, Arrow Updates, Big Bang Theory Contract

About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network Hello and welcome
to Altered Geek Unlimited Episode 50! I'm your
host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining me
this week is... Uh, Mike Powers? And TF2 on Mike.
It's Mike Squared. That's right. So what's going
on this week? In layman's terms. Oh the usual
dealing with internet crap and dealing with neighbor
crap and Had an injured finger so could barely
type for two and a half days did you point at
too many people and no Our buddy Ryan Dross from
star Joe's one of the one of the GCR and partner
podcast said, can't you type with one finger?
I said, yeah, but it would take me nine and a
half hours to write one review. He's like, well,
you know, dedication to the art, no. That's funny.
No. Other than that, not much else really going
on. I wrapped up the underbass pullback crossover
with Lady Rick and Nicole Halestorm and he primed
and all that. In the midst of trying to keep
up with all the SDCC news that I am interested
in So that's what's going on with me For me just
work and You know off -the -cuff stuff mainly
trying to make sure that we all get together
to record an episode every week and Some other
stuff that we'll talk about later on the episode
that's got me excited But don't have to cover
that right now. Sounds good. What about you?
I've been finishing up some things on my house.
Getting it close for the housewarming. Not this
weekend, but next weekend. And then. My job has
been hellaciously busy lately, so. There is that
Yeah, everyone come back next week for episode
51 Yeah Yeah, we don't have the guts to go 1
,250 years in the future It's pretty good time
travel though it was What happens when you use
the DeLorean is very accurate. I'm like a police
box Got to see my own death I watched it on demand.
Do you guys ever use any of those Facebook death
game things that they have on there? Nope. Where
it predicts when you're... I do every now and
then just to get a laugh to see what it says
and mostly to see how long it thinks I'll live
and one of them was like I'll live till 2077.
See I use Facebook to bait people. into conversations.
Like I will intentionally post something on there
that I know will get certain people to engage
in conversation with me. But other than that,
I just go on there to see what other people are
doing, but I don't do any of the games. I don't
click on anything. I primarily live in the social
network of Twitter. Unless there are people that
I'm trying to engage with that aren't on. Twitter
then it's like I'll just go on here and post
this and see if I get any hits Usually I do Yeah,
I pretty much live in in Twitter land as well
I Just like I for me it's just all about the
Twitter's way easier to consume on a phone than
on in the in the computer and There's you know
little to no ads to discourage you from what
you're trying to get at to distract you with
anything so it's way easier to consume like you
know 12 hours worth of news than it is to look
at a facebook feed which all the information
in a facebook feed is it's not first of all it's
not given to it's not presented to you in the
order that it was posted yeah not unless you
Not unless you select it that way but even if
you select it that when you leave and you come
back it defaults You have to like continually
put it back to that setting like if you could
change that so the most recent story was always
the The one that you saw like I would probably
use it more But the way it is like it automatically
goes back to most popular story or whatever it
is which is crap Yes, you know Facebook and their
ads because I mainly use it on a desktop PC.
It's like I just ignore half of the ads. I think
the one thing I use more on Facebook than I do
on Twitter is the trending, because Facebook
had it for a while, they took it away, and now
it's back, and sometimes I'll use that, but they
really need to have the most recent only instead
of top posts, and get rid of suggested posts,
like seriously. Having a suggested post in my
news feed... That I have that I have never even
said that I want in there. That's just dumb.
Yeah. But yeah, like I said, just for me, though,
it's all about just being able to consume the
media as fast as I can. And I don't know, just
Facebook. I mean, Facebook's not so bad on my
phone either because it kind of looks similar
to Twitter. But again, the information is not
presented to you in most recent stuff. Like you'll
see like two recent things and then it'll be
like all stuff from like the day before. Yeah,
and then when you like if you scroll down far
enough you might find more new stuff from like
the current day But it's like this is just not
that's not how I choose to consume everything
so Three years from now Disney will buy Google
will buy Facebook and Twitter and it'll all be
under a mouse. Oh No Google's not gonna be Google
will buy everybody else for something buys Google
Skynet Yeah, Google probably will turn into Skynet.
Did you hear they wrote a robots clause so that
if there ever is robots, it'll keep their CEOs
safe? God. Pretty funny gag. It sounds like something
Zuckerberg would do with Facebook, not necessarily
Google. He hides in the US government, so he's
fine. Anyways, I think we should take a quick
break and come back with some media news And
we're back so what would you guys like to cover
first TV tech miscellaneous Given that our fan
base is actually kind of small I've seen the
flash. You have? I watched the pilot tonight.
Where is that at? A little place called BitTorrent.
Ah. Yeah, I can put it in Dropbox. Anyways, that
would be cool. I liked it. It's a lot lighter
show than Arrow is. It's not as dark, which I
thought was to be expected because the Flash
is a very different hero, in my opinion, than
Arrow is. So I was OK with it being a lighter
show. It was funnier given that was a pilot.
It was kind of some edits or cuts transitions
felt a little abrupt and scenes didn't quite
flow from one to the other. There's a real cool
like, you know, cameo from Arrow in it. And then
I Know it was it was just a good origin story.
They set up a whole bunch of stuff like they
open the entire Whereas arrow doesn't really
deal with superpowers to any extent Flash is
gonna be all about the superpowers nice and bring
in some more of the fantastical elements of the
DC universe Don't want to spoil anything because
like I said, I'll put it in a place where you
guys can catch it, too And maybe we can talk
about it next week Sounds good When is that actually
supposed to air on TV October? No September Okay,
September or October is when it starts but it's
it seems like it's gonna be pretty good they
they borrowed a Thing that I kind of liked from
BBC Sherlock because they were trying to show
how intelligent he is So they have when he's
investigating something like text gets overlaid
on the on the screen as to what's going on in
his head. Diagrams will show up so that you can
see what he's thinking and how he's viewing the
scene. But they only do that once. So I don't
know if it's something they're going to keep
doing. But they've definitely set this one up
for like the long haul. It hits the ground running.
There's a whole bunch of like plot threads dropped.
Yeah. Pun intended, right? But it's not like
Arrow where there's a whole bunch of setup because
it's a spinoff of Arrow. It's already started.
This world's already started. So it's just like,
right, because the setup already happened in
Arrow season two. Right. But you get that you
get the setup again in the pilot, but it's edited
into the context of the show. And they just immediately
start throwing out plot threats to follow for
the entire season. Awesome. Instead of like,
you know a couple of episodes introducing characters
and stuff like that and then like plot threads
coming off of that It's just one show and here's
all these plot threads that we can follow So
it's it's it's gonna be fun. And I know that
there's a couple crossover episodes in the first
In the first well in season three of arrow and
season one of flash. There's I think this is
there's at least two So that's good to look forward
to Yeah, I'm slowly keeping an eye on both Hulu
and Netflix to see when arrow season 2 pops up
So I can actually catch up before season 3 I
think I think arrow will pop up on Netflix in
late September October probably You know, once
I catch up with that, I'll keep up with Arrow
again, because one of the reasons why I stopped
watching Arrow, like after the second episode
of Season 2, was because there was other stuff
on Wednesdays that I was watching that my DVR
said, no, you can't record two programs, or three
programs at once, and all this and all that,
and I was just like, oh, I'll go back to it.
But I am very interested in The Flash, and I
actually cannot wait to see that. Other tidbit
I could throw in about TV after we got done watching
the flash my wife wanted to watch girl meets
world I will never be watching this show again
No, I I'm not I can't really like speak to it.
It's just it was way too like Sweet for me like
I I guess I have to go back and watch like some
boy meets world because I have all of that right
now like I have it all in DVD I want to watch
that like the first episode of that to see how
it compares the first episode of girl meets world
because for some reason boy meets world doesn't
come out as like bubbly or as like like sugary
well they gave it more of a girlish tone in girl
meets world whereas boy meets world it's got
more of the boy tone to it but it's there's a
lot of similarities in the season one of boy
meets world to this Just feel like it was It
was way too sugary and even my wife said it was
like she's like we could shut this off at any
point in time Because she's like this is like
way too much even for me So I I'm not I can't
I'm not gonna speak to whether it's like a good
TV show or a bad TV show But it's definitely
not something that I can watch. I will say that
it's supposed to get more deep And more focused
as it goes along in season one Kind of is going
that way already. We've had three episodes there
so far. We've had the premiere. We've had Girl
Meets Boy and Girl Meets Sneak Attack. By the
third episode, Riley is more okay with being
friends with Lucas than she is about being boy
crazy over him. The beginning, the first episode
is very raw because one, you can tell she's a
new actress. And two, it's obviously there's
things thrown in that are meant to hook the Boy
Meets World fans, but then it's also got that
kind of odd feel to it. So it's kind of a weird
beast. But as more of the Boy Meets World cast
start jumping back in, more or less, it's going
to start evening out. I've read some of the plot
lines. Through the season So it's it's gonna
get a little bit more Closer to the boy meets
world vibe the further season one gets Well,
like I said, it's not something I'm gonna I can't
like speak good or bad about it It's just not
something that I'm gonna be able to watch And
I wasn't even I download because my wife wanted
me to download it I didn't download it because
I wanted to check it out because I it's on the
Disney Channel. There's There was almost like
90 % certainty. It was gonna be something that
I wasn't gonna be able to stand But I can't,
like I said, I'm not going to speak to whether
it's good or bad, it's just something that I
can't watch. Since you are talking about Disney
Channel, and since this episode comes right before
this premiere on Disney Channel, will you guys
be checking out at any time Phineas and Ferb
Star Wars? Nope, I hate Phineas and Ferb, so...
That looks really cool. The basic jest of it
is they take... Episode 4 and Phineas and Ferb
it up where it's Phineas and Ferb live next door
to Luke It looks really cool, I'm not a fan of
the show so nope Anyways wait a minute this story
that you've got here about supernatural that
might be where I jump off that show Why? I hate
musicals. Like with a passion. I have to agree
with you. The other thing, there's two things
I can't stand when shows kind of break the, like
I mean this show, it's broken the third wall
before it's done all kinds of goofy stuff. I
mean they've had reasonable explanations in the
strange world of Supernatural. However, there's
only been a couple of episodes I've not been
able to stomach up to this point, and I think
this will be one of them too, the musical one.
It's the ones where they have the... Chronicles,
the movie? Where it's, you know, everything is
from the first -person camera perspective. Like
they're running with the camera. Oh, yeah. I
know what you're talking about I can't stand
those type of episodes because I just don't like
the film style, right? So when they did that
a couple times in supernatural, I I just shut
it off. Mm -hmm I just hope it's not it's not
good. It couldn't possibly be a story episode.
I Think it's gonna be total horse crap. I just
wonder when that's going to be in this 200th
episode. I Don't know how far off they are to
200 though That's easy enough to find out. But
the other thing that's kind of strange about
it is like the whole dynamic they set up in the
previous season. I think it's kind of too little,
too late for that kind of thing. I'm going to
say it's all going to be in the context of how
it's done, and it's not going to be a story episode.
It's going to be a monster of the week episode,
which is going to make it completely throw away,
which is just fine. Which means I don't have
to watch it. Exactly. So Hmm So Gotham is adding
more people that are gonna be old by the time
Batman comes around yeah, only one of them makes
sense though They added Hugo strange and two
-face like two -face is supposed to be pretty
much the same age as Bruce Wayne because it's
Harvey Den They're supposed to be friends Now
are they having Harvey Dent are they adding two
-face like that's my question like is this was
like a headline grab I? Think it might be Okay.
I personally would have a problem with it if
it was Two -Face instead of Harvey Dent. I want
to see a 12 year old Bruce Wayne like scar up
Harvey Dent. Yeah, they're talking about Harvey
Dent. Okay. They used it as a headline grab.
I'm fine with that then. But as long as he starts
out as kind of a kid or like a year or two older
than Bruce, that's fine, but it kind of throw
it off if he's older. Hugo Strange should totally
be the high school psychiatrist And he starts
twisting around all these people that eventually
become Batman's rogue gallery, oh that'd be great
Sitting like Hannibal kind of you know twist
in their minds from the inside out We jump from
Flash but you know we came back. We're coming
back around to arrow that arsenal shot Today
was pretty cool. What do you think about that?
Finally Yes, I mean I've hated Roy's character
in the show I think he's been one of the weakest
links In in season 2 it really became apparent
that they didn't know what to do with him Because
they gave him the well, I don't know yeah, I
was gonna say I don't know how Mike feels about
spoilers But he was pretty much out for you know
Maybe like a third of season two Because they
just didn't know what to do with his character.
At least I felt like they didn't know what to
do with this character Seemed like it they just
here. Let's put him unconscious for a while I
was like it's like let's give him the mirror
crew and then it's like well We don't really
know what to do with the mirror crew So we'll
just knock him out and Then we'll like you know
take you know five episodes and develop a cure
and they'll cure him and now he's arsenal I Just
hope he's not like the badass archer that Oliver
is I hope he's more like street thug ish Which
I hope he's more like how speedo speedy was I
know it's not speedy. I know it's arsenal, but
I've seen them call him Red Arrow in this. I
know he's going to be called Arsenal, but I hope
it's more like his Young Justice kind of personality,
where he's really snarky and really flipping
towards Green Arrow. He's that way anyways. He's
already that way. He's always been that way.
I just I'm thinking just I don't think he's he's
not trained, so I'm hoping that still stays to
be like, you know, the course. And I guess that
is. He has other like weapons built into his
costume like he has Combat sticks in his boots
to fight with and stuff. So when he loses his
bow, he's not disarmed So I know like the way
the suit looks Kind of looks similar to arrows,
but it looks Enough different besides the color.
I Will say this When arrow showed up in the flash,
he did not have a different suit which is to
be expected I guess since they shot that That
pilot was actually, I wouldn't be surprised if
that pilot was actually supposed to be an episode
of Arrow. Is it just me or is the pilot teaser
too long? It seems like the five -minute teaser
that they put out was the entire show for the
pilot. Yes, more or less. But at the same time,
when you see that five -minute teaser like there's
stuff in there that you kind of cringe at that
doesn't really you might cringe at that you're
like oh that's kind of hokey or that's kind of
this that or the other thing but when you see
it in like 45 minutes it it kind of plays out
pretty well um i didn't find like stuff that
i found that looked cheesy in the the five minute
teaser that they put out i didn't have an issue
with in the pilot so um Trying to think if there's
any other TV stuff I want to talk about I Talk
about the strain last week Steve. I Don't think
so You weren't yeah I Caught the first episode
of Guillermo del Toro's strain on FX It's too
early for me to make a call on that and if i'm
repeating myself from last week I apologize listeners,
but it's still too early for me to make a call
on that I have to I was going to try and watch
the second episode but it hasn't gone up yet
so Because I usually give a show a two episode
shake To see if it actually gets me or not, but
the first episode kind of left me feeling not
too great about it so That's all I got as far
as tv goes because I don't Think I've watched
anything else For me I normally don't talk about
these because I really don't pay attention to
a lot of the oh the cast hasn't arrived yet or
oh Contract disputes blah blah blah normally
I don't pay attention to that but I noticed today
they put out a story about the Big Bang Theory
that the show comes back October 31st and Right
now there are no contracts for the cast because
they're still in negotiations with CBS because
they want Friends type money as far as that goes
the shows seven seasons in I don't blame them
for asking for more money Actually what surprised
more surprises more surprising to me is that
CBS ordered more seasons without having a contract
first I see that's the thing I thought I'm like
wait don't they already have contracts if there's
you know some rumor rumored ten seasons gonna
happen Like, it seems like they put the cart
before the horse. I want to know how that one
worked out. Someone's got to be slamming their
head against the desk somewhere. Well, and the
fact is, is all of the cast wants a raise. Yeah,
but I think this is something that will come
through because there was something like someone
similar kind of started to happen. What was it?
In between like Avengers. like Thor 2 like some
stuff started happening like with the like Chris
Evans and oh my gosh Chris Hemsworth like wanting
more money for their role and like Robert Downey
jr. like standing beside them to get them more
money for their roles right I mean stuff like
this happens like all the time and yeah it'll
cut it'll come together at the last second It's
what they're doing is they're just playing like.
But see, I don't I CBS doesn't seem to be in
a position where they can actually like. I don't
think CBS can play chicken, you know, I feel
like they're in that position where it's like
we just have to give them what they want. Because
they're the ones I was thinking, because they're
the ones who just walk away and CBS is left without
a show. And that's one of their big moneymakers.
I I don't see how you. Don't see what leverage
CBS has in this situation Yeah, I honestly don't
know I honestly think that they have to give
it to them. I mean Other than syndication. There's
not really I Mean they can cancel the show I
mean they could but they could also recast with
new people one But both of those options hurt
themselves and I say that is that I'm not a fan
of Big Bang Theory But I know I know how popular
it is but that Either one of those hurts CBS
that does not help help them like that's not
leverage on their part Because those all those
actors probably have enough money to just go
and sit and do nothing for forever Or go back
into obscurity, which is where they came from
But well now wait a second here. I don't know
about going back into obscurity There are only
two of them that were actually in stuff before
and I only know one of them that was in something
before There are three actually Johnny Galecki
who Miami Alec I only know the one that was in
Roseanne. That's Johnny Galecki. I don't know
anybody else in that show. And I knew Kaylee
only from that 8 Simple Rules, but I only saw
it at the beginning. I didn't really watch it.
And my ambialic is from Blossom from the 90's.
Which I never watched. Yep. Don't know it's like
it's weird that this entire thing is like popping
up because like we said they announced ten You
know three more seasons and now we find out they
didn't have a contract for any of it and they
have no leverage So I'm trying to figure out
where the heck they're there must be some they
must have some leverage that we don't know about
but must be some behind -the -scenes studio thing
and You know producer pulled on his pants and
they're like, oh we'll release this if you don't
give us more money Stuff we don't know about.
That's funny. What happens behind closed doors
on CBS stays on CBS. Oh, that's nasty. Can't
broadcast that system. That's what she said.
All right, let's stop talking about TV. Can't
touch this. All right. Have you seen the stuff
on the Build your own do -it -yourself smart
home I've been following the smart home stuff
for a couple of years Mainly I've been following
like the nest products But I haven't seen like
this Loof within the last like 12 months a whole
bunch of stuff is like showing up on the market
I haven't been able to keep up with any of it
But My understanding is now everybody has something
like Apple's getting into it. Google's getting
into it. Samsung is getting into it. Lowe's is
getting into it. Everybody. Yeah. Oh, I know
Comcast offers something too. And so does AT
&T. I mean, all this stuff interests me, but
at the same time, it's like I'm really if I was
going to do any of it, it'd be really peculiar
about it like. Not specifically speaking to the
story that you've got here but just the the smart
home in general one of the things that kind of
Turned me on to the whole thing was There was
I think it's the guy that helped design the iPod
for Apple he he left and he founded a company
called nest and their their mission statement
was to take the most mundane products in your
home and make them user -friendly and update
them for modern times. The first thing they did
was a smart thermostat, which they call it a
learning thermostat. You don't have to program
it. It learns when you are home and when you're
not. There's a motion sensor on it. So if it
senses like movement it knows that somebody's
home and it will keep the temperature like set
to wherever you want it to be set at When you're
when you leave the house you set it to have like,
you know You can set it so like when you're sleeping
or when you're away from your home, maybe you
want you want it to be cooler So you're not like
in the winter you can turn it down so it's a
little bit cooler instead of keeping it warm
like all the time It's like when you're sleeping
and it doesn't sense movement in the house anymore.
It will automatically lower the temperature And
then over time when you get up in the morning
And it senses that you're moving around over
time. It will learn When you're getting up and
what days you're getting up and it will start
preheating your house So your house is warmer
when you get up and you start walking around
And then, of course, it also sends push notifications
to your phone, and it will tell you how much
energy you're using, how much energy you're saving.
You can control your thermostat from your phone.
So if you're away or you're on your way home
from work, you can tell it that you're on your
way home in a hot summer day. You can say, start
cooling off my house so it's cool when I get
home. And they just added this crazy integration.
It's called IFTTT. Think it is if this then that
is what it's called And they tied it in with
like that through that little automatic dongle.
I had for my car That would tell me like where
I was driving and how I was driving talked about
a long time ago. Yeah, anyways They added integration
with that so you set up like this whole thing
and so when you start driving home The automatic
thing when you start driving towards your home
will trigger an if this then that rule and it
will tell Nest that you're driving home and will
automatically start cooling your house for you.
So you don't have to do any of that stuff. I
like smart stuff. And then and then they came
out with the only Nest product I have in my house.
Like my wife won't let me get the thermostat
because one it's a really expensive thermostat,
but she won't let me get the thermostat because
we don't have air conditioning. So it doesn't
really benefit us like It doesn't benefit us
all year round. It would only benefit us in the
winter But I the one product that they did come
out with that I actually have is there a smoke
alarm And their claim to fame with the with the
smoke alarm is that it talks to you So instead
of just like beeping at you incessantly like
if there's like smoke in the house It will tell
you it'll be like if you're cooking and you burn
the toast or you start burning something It will
tell you it says we sense there's like we sense
it'll be like there's smoke in such -and -such
area and you can like wave at it and It'll see
that you're waving at it. And that's like the
okay not to trigger the alarm Because you're
there to say like oh I burnt my food you don't
need to you know Beep at me constantly and set
the alarm off Yeah. Which is kind of neat. And
then the other thing, they're all networked over
your over your Wi -Fi. So if you have a large
house because you're supposed to have like a
properly smoke alarms in a home, you're supposed
to have them like in every room, but like the
kitchen and the basement in the garage, I think.
So only three rooms in the house, you're not
supposed to have a smoke alarm. But what you
can do is if you have a lot of money and you
have a big house You can put the smoke alarm
in every house and you can designate that smoke
alarm You know that you can say this smoke alarm
is in the bedroom and this smoke alarm is in
well You can say it's like in the kids bedroom
and this one's in the master bedroom and this
one's in the family room yada yada yada And what
will happen is let's say you're in the family
room and you're you know watching TV at night
The alarm will go off in the family room. It'll
say alert. There is smoke in like the kids room
So instead of like just like blaring alarms at
you and not knowing where stuff is happening
It will say if there's smoke in the kids bedroom
and you can get up and you can go and check it
off I mean in the alarm will still trigger. I
mean it it will there is an alarm to the thing
So like if you're sleeping But it will also it
will try and talk to you and tell you where stuff
is happening as well as sounding an alarm But
it but I'm yeah, I'm I've been following this
stuff I haven't really been following the big
guy stuff. I haven't really looked at Google
stuff, although Google bought Nest. So that's
something. All this smart house talk reminds
me of those old tech savory cartoons. And yeah,
the house of the future, where a couple of mice
go into this house of the future and it's all
these newfangled things and automatic sweepers
and everything else. It's really funny. Yep Wonder
how many people I just lost by talking about
thermostats and smoke alarms Now let's talk about
a flux capacitor I Put that in there mostly for
you Yeah, even though you don't drive Yeah, no
goes into the lighter spot and it's got like
USB ports on it but it's a it looks like a flux
capacitor and lights up and It's a car charger.
I'll tell you what I want from my car. It's back
to the future related. That's why I bring it
up. Because the antenna on my car is like it's
on the roof, you know, and it's like short and
stubby. I want to make a custom antenna that
is the hook that they put on the DeLorean at
the end of the back to the future. Nice. And
put that up there. I thought that'd be funny
because I have an electric car. And you got to
put Mr. Fusion on the back. No. Don't have a
hover car true, you know, you can't have mr.
Fusion without a hover car No, mr. Fusion's always
been there but even before the no car wasn't
it was not it was plutonium in the first one
Oh, that's right. Then he went to the future
and when it became a hover car he had mr. Fusion
and that's why he stuffed trash in Yep That's
part of the hover conversion It gets rid of waste
They don't need trash and we're going we don't
have trash except they land in an alley full
of it. I know That's the funny thing about it.
Everywhere else is clean but the alleys All right,
I Thought this was kind of neat about windows
9 that's coming out next year Besides the fact
that they added the start menu back to some capacity
they're not going to have separate versions anymore,
like Windows Phone, Windows 8, and Windows RT.
Yeah, I'll believe that one when I see it. Well,
I guess this new CEO is pretty gung -ho on unifying
everything instead of having... Mean they're
still gonna have like the home and the pro and
the enterprise version but Lord of like they
always do with Windows, but it's it's not they're
gonna it's gonna be the same version of Windows
that's scalable to phone and tablet and desktop
I Don't know I don't know I'm glad I don't I
don't deal with that crap I'm sure I will I can't
wait to see how much they I can't wait to see
how much they charge for it You know, they would
be smart if they did like the Apple way of operating
system updates gave it away for free That or
like a $50 upgrade Well, I see that's the thing
the upgrade for Windows is always cheap But it's
when you want the full version so you can install
it, you know Wherever you want. That's when they're
like it's $400 go screw yourself Yeah, I paid
$100 for Windows 7 Home Edition Oh yeah? When
I bought it a year ago. I torrented it. I...
I would have. I torrented it because I put it
on the bootcamp partition on my Mac. And I only
use it when I want to play certain games. So
it's not something that I have to interact with
on a daily basis. But I haven't had any problems
getting any updates for it. So it must have been
a pretty good pirated version. And it doesn't
have a bunch of like... It doesn't have any of
those like... weird things that you get where
it's like they have like the the cracked key
generators like are built into it and they have
like the skulls and all that stuff like i haven't
seen any of that stuff on there it's like it's
like it might as well just be genuine windows
but i've always been on the lookout to like pay
for a version of windows but it's like always
like way too expensive and now it's like way
more expensive especially when you compare stuff
to like os 10 which is now free as long as you
have a mac obviously But I just I don't know
I've never actually paid for a version of Windows
Well, I thought anything is a shooter to get
Windows 7 well Windows 7 was the first one I
actually bought I had a XP edition that was like
the first edition of XP Which meant every time
I wiped out my system. I had to put three went
service packs My dad gave it to me after he ever
worked on somebody's computer Okay, and They
didn't need it anymore. They bought a different
version of Windows and so he gave it to me and
So I had that up until about a year ago when
I updated my computer and put Windows 7 on and
Have a look back Not looking forward either Windows
9 sounds alright, I hate a Going back just a
bit, I just found this out. Season 10 episode
5 is the 200th episode, so they are not far off
for Supernatural. Thanks for letting me know
which episode not to watch. You're welcome. I'm
sure the rest of the internet would tell you
as well. Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure the week of. What's
next, Steve? what's next um well weird al topped
the billboard 200 for the first time yay i'm
actually kind of surprised yeah i think i am
too because i feel like the last time he was
like relevant to me was like 2004 I don't even
know what CD that was. It came out in 2004. That
was like the last time he was like, I'm pretty
sure he's had CDs between then and now, but like
that was like the last time he was even relevant
to me. That's the last time I remember going
with a friend to like buy one of his CDs. I haven't
bought a CD since the 90s of anything. I've boughten
four actual physical CDs since November. And
I bought them from Best Buy I think I talked
about I think I talked about this on off the
cuff It was a pain in the butt to find them in
the store Well CDs are pretty much Gone anymore
anywhere you go. Yeah. Well, I mean I go to Best
Buy for it and like they've got like a Shelving
section like a row of shells like the front side
of a shelf in the backside and that's like their
CD section so it was like really hard to find
like even like the newest stuff was like Super
hard to find there and even when I found it I
automatically took out my phone I compared it
to the price on iTunes and I'm like I just spent
like 45 minutes looking for what this CD And
they're in charge of 12 bucks for it when I can
get it on iTunes like I could have gotten an
iTunes 45 minutes ago for like 10 bucks But at
the same time I'm also like well then I then
I'd have to burn it to a CD to listen to it in
my car You know first world problems here, right?
Right, but I mean I really funny because that's
one of weird Al songs But I I mean I still bought
them because I spent all that time looking for
them I was like, okay finals frickin buy them
But because I was just gonna burn a CD of them
Anyways, if I gotten it off iTunes, this is gonna
burn a CD and throw it in my car So might as
well already had the CD burn for me. I Buy CDs
every now and then like if it if it's not on
iTunes, then I have to go find the CD I will
say that I'm not too thrilled with how some of
the distribution is on certain albums. Like some
albums will have exclusive tracks in everything.
It'll have two tracks in iTunes, six tracks in
Amazon. It'll do the DVD thing, different stores
or even the game DLC packs or character packs.
It'll be like, oh, pre -order here, you can get
this. With one of my favorite bands, Blackstone
Cherry, they had a two bonus tracks but it was
a best buy only and that was earlier this year
that I bought that but it was just it was so
crazy because I had already listened to the album
because they had put it out on streaming uh beforehand
and the two tracks that are bonus tracks on the
CD don't fit in with the other 13 tracks on the
album yeah that happens sometimes because it's
like they it feels almost like they made those
two tracks just for that bonus content Mm -hmm.
So. Nope. It's crazy. How about, um, Batfleck's
costume at SDCC? Yay. Finally, we see a costume.
But we saw the costume, like, months ago. Well,
I mean, I'm just glad to see it, see the cowl
more or less up close. And then, of course, they
released the image with him actually, his mugshot.
Oh, okay. The one thing that I immediately thought
when I saw that is he can no longer turn his
head again. That's what I thought, too. That's
like the first shot they show with him sitting
next to the Batmobile. There was at least. But
again, don't really know what material material
it's made out of. But I'm getting like this.
The one thing I don't want to see from my batcowl
is the what would happen when Adam West would
turn his head, which is like one side of it would
like bunch up. and like pull away from his face.
Like, I don't want to see that happen with, you
know, you know, Zack Snyder's Batman. And I feel
like if he turns his head, that's what this suit
is going to do, unless it's made of like some
space age material that we don't know about.
Either that or he just can't turn his head again,
which is a freaking step backwards and seems
like an easy way to get your neck broken. I think
it almost be like. Like a combination of the
Dark Knight rises or Dark Knight Helmet where
it's separate yeah, and then have you know the
cowl go right up and underneath or the the neck
piece go right up underneath the the helmet But
it doesn't look like that now like no it looks
like it's all one piece So I mean it'll be interesting
to see what happens, but yeah, it's it's another
it's another picture They still haven't shown
it in any kind of like color what? actually is
it black it is black okay all right so it is
not blue that's kind of that is mildly disappointing
to me but it's not like a dark blue for a dark
a dark dark blue yeah that's what i was hoping
in the gray yep now the only thing that'll save
this costume now as far as color for me is if
they make the rest of the costume gray i think
the rest is gray because there was a there's
a definite uh tonal shift in the two there are
two definite colors present in that suit and
i don't think it's like black and like darker
black i think it's like gray and black but i
think the bat symbol on the chest is still black
or gray i hope that the symbol is black but the
rest of it's gray i'm gonna go try and find those
shots from the bat Yeah, I think it's I the suits
great. I think that bat symbols either probably
gonna be a darker gray. It's not the same shade
as the cowl Look could be I don't know Anyways,
yeah, so Batman Is anybody going to well, I don't
know who actually has this channel of the me
out of the out of you guys, but FX has been making
this huge deal about a certain Longest running
cartoon show having the longest running marathon
ever next month The Simpsons is gonna have all
of its episodes aired on a back -to -back multi
-day marathon on FXX I like this. I think it's
cool that they're doing this You know, I'm not
a Simpsons fan to each their own. I think it's
cool because you can actually check it out whatever
day you want to and find episodes you may like
or that you may remember from the good old days.
The other Simpson story I found this week was
apparently some guy in New Zealand or somewhere
apparently is obsessed with Homer Simpson. He
has nothing but Homer Simpson's tattoos all over
his body. That's just sad. Like, I like Transformers
and I like Batman, but I would not do that. What
do we think of Robert Downey Jr. weighing in
on Iron Man 4? It's about money. That's what
it's always about with any movie. You more or
less just said that. I feel like... Most of the
articles I saw about this were them complaining
about him once they got around to doing like
an Iron Man 4, him being in like his 60s. But
the guy does not look like he's in his 50s. I
mean, he can look like that, but he doesn't look
like he's in his 50s. Like, I don't think he
looks like he's in his 50s. He looks like he's
in his early to mid 40s at most. I would say
like mid 40s. Who knows? That's how I that's
how I see him. But at the same time, like and
I could be like way off the mark here and I could
be mixing up my actors, but I don't really feel
like I am. James Spader, the guy from Blacklist,
he is Ultron in Age of Ultron. Yeah, but I just
watched a well and trying to pass the time at
work on Saturday. I watched a movie that he did
in 1999 called Supernova. and he looks like super
young in that movie and that was only like 15
years ago and My understanding is that Robert
Downey jr. And him are friends and they're pretty
close in age But man did spader let himself go
Well, I know compared like compared to Downey
Like I because he it's it's like it's like I
was like, whoa, that's that's that cannot be
the same guy So it's really interesting like
the two actors like coming up in Hollywood It's
like one made maybe we got by because he had
money and the other one didn't have like the
money to that I don't know what the stories could
possibly be It's just it's just interesting that
you know, you have two guys and they could look
so completely different from each other I guess
it goes to say that you could make you know Robert
Downey jr. Look old but the fact that he's he
may be in his 60s by the time he plays that role
like that just means to me he'll look like he's
in his 50s for once maybe um so it's just going
to come down to money i mean they have plenty
of release dates where they could do an iron
man 4 and marvel's doing and marvel's doing nothing
but printing money right now um so i don't know
i i don't know what i want to see um I have an
Iron Man 4, but I know for sure I'd see it because
I know if it's a Marvel Studios movie, I will
like 100 % go see it. Since we're on the Marvel
topic, let me ask you guys, what do you think
about them giving release dates to all these
as of yet titled productions? I'm okay with it
because they're doing something... Marvel Studios
is doing something completely different in my
opinion and completely unprecedented in the movie.
world like until they came like around which
is they have they have a very clear path and
a very clear direction and they They just have
a string of hits and I've seen what more than
one critics say that You know if guardians opens
at number one, which you know it will If guardians
opens at number one and it stays never like it
and it crushes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,
which it probably will they that is Marvel pretty
much has carte blanche to do whatever they want
that means I can put on like they just put a
talking raccoon and a tree that says three lines
on screen before we got Wonder Woman and people
still went to go see that damn movie and it's
characters that really nobody knows anything
about like and if it's still number one like
First week and possibly the second week that's
Marvel is it's just gonna prove that they can
just put anything up on screen now It has to
quality don't get me wrong like they could still
make a bad movie and it would like tarnish their
reputation Like I'm not saying they can just
release garbage but I'm saying Marvel could Marvel
is getting more a lot more brave with the stuff
that they're willing to put on screen and Especially,
you know, they're doing Guardians and then they're
gonna do Doctor Strange Which is gonna bring
magic in which I thought Thor was supposed to
do but Thor opened up the cosmic realm for Guardians
So The Marvel well Marvel movies are all based
off of comics. They're really all just genre
films That are coming out of the same studio.
So it's not really and they cross over with each
other and they're connected So it's not really
all that different than like I like it like a
It's like a really broad stroke here, but it's
not really all that different than like a Dreamworks
animation type thing Where you've got they make
a bunch of different animated movies, and they're
all in different genres but they're still all
computer animated movies and Like Marvel is just
they're making different genre movies, but they
have like the stable of characters to do that
So I don't feel like we're getting I don't feel
like they think they're making comic book movies.
I feel like they think they're making genre movies
and It might in in my and I've also heard from
phage the The head of Marvel Studios. He said
that their plan is like one new movie and a sequel
every year Right, which to me that is even that's
a lot better because not only do you get a sequel
to a successful franchise? Are you to build on
a franchise? You're still not getting old because
you're giving the audience something new. Yep.
Just like the everything that happened in the
last month with that movie just kind of has me
like. I don't I don't. Which movie? Ant Man.
Oh, like I just don't know. how to feel about
that, especially after the guy that was Edgar
Wright, who was going to direct it, put almost
10 years of his life in pre -production into
that movie. And to get up and walk away from
the table over some dispute with Marvel, which
no one's really saying what it was, right before
they were getting ready to start shooting, something
happened there and I feel like enough people
didn't... Stand up with him. I guess I And there
was like a lot of like tweets and stuff like
Joss Whedon Like posted a picture like, you know
poor went out for your fallen comrade or whatever
but in my opinion it speaks a lot more volume
if you would abandon Avengers 2 like if you're
gonna sit there like show support for this guy
like Maybe you should have like you're the director
of their biggest franchise. Why not? You know
throw your weight around You know, yeah, you
take a hike and see what happens Well, the last
time Whedon threw his weight around, that I know
of, Angel got fast -tracked and got cancelled.
Well, but this is different. No, I know it's
different, but I'm just saying the last time
that I remember hearing of Whedon throwing his
weight around about something, you know, that's
when... Angel didn't technically get cancelled,
it ended, but it's just one of those things where
it didn't get picked up for that sixth season
that he wanted. Right. Well, I don't mean to
sound like an idiot here, if that's what most
people think. I mean, I understand, like, stuff
happens behind the scenes that we don't know
about, and maybe it was a completely amicable
decision, you know, but something happened, but
nobody's saying what it was, and it's very weird
for a director that was in, you know, pre -production
for as long as he was to exit the product. project
right before they were going to start filming
and It's I think Dan has said this before he
likes when a director is able to do something
original like which is what he liked about Iron
Man 3 and I didn't really care for it and I feel
like you know, maybe that's what Edgar Wright
was going to do but Marvel said that they weren't
afraid of what Edgar Wright was going to put
on screen and You know, it's like it's one of
those things where we just said they just put
a talking raccoon in a tree On screen. So what
about Ant -Man could possibly have made them?
You know second -guess a directorial decision
if that's in fact what happened all of us is
like conjecture on my part. I just feel like
I feel like if it was such like a tight -knit
family and like there was that respect among
like the directors that You know, especially
since Joss Whedon supposed to be like the guy
at the top of the food chain That's what I'm
saying like if he's the guy at the top of the
food chain He's like I feel like even though
he's like, you know trying to show solidarity
and like, you know posting like, you know solidarity
pictures like on Twitter and stuff like that
It's kind of like put your money where your mouth
is man. Put your foot down You're the dirt. You
are at the helm of their largest franchise Plus
you have like the nerds like but wrapped around
your finger like if you were to stand up and
Like throw your weight around right now with
Avengers 2 pretty sure the rest of the internet
would get up and rally around you as well Yeah,
I pretty much but he didn't do that. So it's
kind of like a backhanded compliment, you know,
it's like oh, I'm sorry You got kicked out I
feel really bad for you But I'm gonna sit over
here and collect my fat paycheck from Marvel
because I'm doing what they told me to do Yeah
Still excited for Avengers 2 just want to say
that Oh yeah, absolutely. I'm excited for all
the Marvel movies that I know the characters
in. I think it was a number of AGUs back, but
I had said at one point on this show that I had
not seen the very first Guardians of the Galaxy
trailer. Because I don't know the characters,
I just don't have any interest. Since then, I've
seen the trailers. I saw that original trailer.
I like it. But it's not something I'm willing
to go to the theater for. I I know you hated
this movie, you know, Pacific Rim, and I don't
want to go too much into that. But for me, for
me, Guardians is this year's Pacific Rim for
me. Like, I know nothing about Guardians. Right.
And I've never heard like I'm familiar with them
from like the comics, like I'm not I'm familiar
with them enough to not be like weirded out by
the idea. But I don't know that much about them.
So I'm like going into this one like. This is
going to be fun. Plus, I'm getting like a very
strong Firefly vibe off of it. And I love the
TV show Firefly. So. Yeah. Anyways. I think one
last superhero story, Steve, and then we can
talk about TGI Fridays. You can talk about TGI
Fridays, but I just found it a little hilarious
that one person would actually do that. So. Kyle
Higgins is bringing the Phantasm to Batman Beyond.
The new story arc, Mark of the Phantasm, started
on the digital comic series after the Justice
Lords crossover ended. I like this. I think it's
interesting. I've already read the first chapter.
The second chapter comes out soon. I actually
had to go back and reread the original run that
Adam Beechin did to get one of the characters
and realize, oh crap, they're calling back to
everything, not just the animated series, but
what the previous comic part did. So I think
it's cool. I'm wondering who this phantasm is,
if it's going to still be Andrea Beaumont. I
don't think so, because she was already revealed
in both. btas in the mask of the phantasm and
in batman beyond well actually justice league
epilogue but um i'm super stoked for this this
new story in batman beyond universe i'm excited
to see it i just i i'm not really sure what to
think of it yet yeah it's only had the first
chapter so far and the first chapter is kind
of like a wtf moment um But what's interesting
is they are keeping, and this is what I like
about this, they are keeping Kyle Higgins on
as the writer. They are keeping Tony Silas on
as the main regular artist for all of the current
day art. And they're bringing in Phil Hester
and a couple of other artists to do the flashbacks
because this story arc is all told. It's going
to be seven parts. It's all told in flashback.
because when Batman Beyond 2 .0 started up earlier
this year, or earlier last year I should say,
they jumped one year ahead from the events of
Adam Beecham's original run. So now they're going
back and telling you what happened in between
the one year gap. Very awesome. Okay, so I saw
this and I used to go to TGI Fridays all the
time and they announced recently their $10 unlimited
appetizer thing, but you can only order one appetizer
for, you know, you can order a potato skins or
mozzarella sticks and $10 you can get as much
as you want. I actually found an article online
where a guy actually took advantage of this and
spent - It wasn't a guy. It was a chick. Someone
spent the entire day from opening to close eating
mozzarella sticks at TGI Friday's I just I Read
through the whole thing. It's kind of I did too
Well, if you would have read through the whole
thing, you would have known it was a girl anyway
Go ahead No, I was just gonna say that it's it's
kind of it's kind of funny. But why would you
subject yourself to that? Because we're Americans
and that's what we do. Yeah, so I did it I Wouldn't
do it. I don't care. I wouldn't sit there from
12 o 'clock until 1 in the morning No, there's
no way in hell You know what I would do though
same appetizer, you know what I would do though
what I paid $200 for that Lego tumbler And I'm
going to I know you will I'm excited I like I
Know it's you know, it's it's Legos and you know,
sometimes there's some people I'm pretty sure
all our fans love Legos And I'm like a hardcore
like Lego purists like I'll see like the What
are the other like knockoff Legos the mega blocks
and the mega blocks and creos like I'll see those
I would like mmm That's a cool set, but you know
what it's not Legos. I'm not buying that like
I am I am a die -hard Lego like snob And I remember
growing up Playing with Legos, and I would build
you know the stuff like I would try to build
like you know make my Batman figures and like
Power Rangers figures I got to bring up the model
paints and like you know make my own make my
own characters I may even made like the turtles
by painting some some figures myself Of course
now kids have it easy and all those sets are
available. You can go to the store You can buy
Batman you can buy the turtles You kids suck
But I one thing In I've always kind of liked
is the I've all like growing up I always liked
the model team Lego sets which were like the
basically it's kind of like what the ultimate
collector sets are now they were Sets with like
more than a thousand pieces in them and they
were intricately detailed you had to build every
single part of the set I remember there's like
a Porsche Like a big rig stuff like that But
I getting older You know, I started collecting
Lego sets a few years ago when Lego introduced
the architecture series, which is just like smaller
sets that are basically it's the Empire State
Building out of Legos, the Eiffel Tower out of
Legos. I started collecting those and from there
I moved on to like I have a giant pirate ship.
That I have on top of my bookshelf that Lego
made, you know I bought the actual set but I've
built several pirate ships myself like growing
up I had like all the pirate sets and I mixed
and matched them and made my own but getting
older I just kind of like to buy the sets and
kind of reminisce about what I had when I was
a kid and display it like it's just there to
be displayed not really played with A couple
of years ago. They came out with the Lego B wing,
which was actually my first master Ultimate collectors
edition, which was I think over a thousand pieces
and again like the model team stuff You have
to build the entire thing and that's also up
on my bookcase just for display But I take it
down and I play with it every once in a great
while And I bought the DeLorean and the ecto
one Like a month ago from Lego and It's just
it's just cool because the one thing I remember
growing up as a kid. My dad always wanted me
to build models You know like the old -fashioned
You know plastic and get the group get the glue
out and the exacto knife and stuff But well,
I built a few of them. I never really got into
it But I did build like the you know, the back
to fusion DeLorean and the back in the 1989 batmobile
is one of the models that I built And it's interesting
seeing these same Like this the models that my
dad wanted me to build are now available as like
Lego sets that I can buy and actually build because
always like building out of Legos and Monday
when I got to work. I checked in on Twitter and
sure enough. There's the freaking Lego tumbler
which the tumbler is like my favorite batmobile
ever and It's you know the master series so it
comes like a little plaque that tells you all
about the tumbler and it comes with a you know
They call it the Christian Christian Bale Batman
and the Heath Ledger Joker But I could care less
about that. I just want that damn tumbler I'm
just I'm super excited I will say that the only
thing about Creo that is really cool to me are
the Creon characters, not necessarily the sets
themselves, but the fact that you have Transformers
characters that you can actually make out of
the LEGO men. I like that about Creo, the rest
of it. It's too weird. Like I said, the sets
are cool. I look at them and I'm like, man, that'd
be a really neat set to have. But at the same
and then I just like it's not Lego. I really
don't I really don't care Right, but that's just
you know, that's just me I know I've got friends
that have like they like the the Creo transformers
and they have some of them and they they don't
They don't distinguish the way that I do But
I know if like I know for a fact that if Lego
made like a transformer set I'd probably buy
it and I know that one of my favorite games right
now is Titanfall and Creo, I think just Got the
license to create Titanfall characters. I'm like,
man, those would be really cool to have But they're
not Lego. So they're not coming in my house But
yeah, I'm thoroughly excited for this it comes
out September 1st, it's as I said, it's like
it's 200 bucks 1 ,869 pieces and man does it
look awesome And there's a whole heck of a lot
of good stuff coming out of SDCC this year, too.
There's a lot of cool news. I think we may save
that for next week, maybe. Oh, yeah, do a recap
show. Yeah. Just to kind of talk about some of
the fun things that, you know, got came out of
it. And if you save it for next year, you can
make it an early anniversary episode because
we started this one after SDCC last year. Nice.
So. Yeah, technically I should have done that
for this one being that it's episode 50, but
I didn't All right, 52 would actually make it
one year so Yeah, Steve created the new 52 Only
problem with that is it started two years prior.
Yeah The first thing that I've created is something
else is taken that's actually the title of off
the cuff 52 It's the new 52 So Yeah, um, oh the
other thing Batman Arkham Knight DLC Red Hood
Red Hood Has there been actual story DLC for
the Arkham games? Has there been yes. Yes. Okay
Arkham City had hardly Arkham origins had mr.
Freeze Okay, so nothing. I don't think this I
think this may be just an alternate Story DLC
maybe like do you play as those characters you
play as Batman against the plays Batman and you
go against them. Oh Sometimes you like in the
Harley one you get to play as Robin I wonder
if I should save Batman wonder if I should check
those out and it's in Arkham City Okay, you get
to play as Robin and it's the Tim Drake version.
Ooh I like me some Tim Drake and he has to save
Batman like he plays Batman for like Two seconds
and then you're immediately Robin and then After
you save Batman Then you're Batman again for
the remainder of it which isn't much of it That's
one of the things that I've kind of held against
the Arkham games I don't really want to get too
much into it is that they have those characters
games, but you can't use them they have the alt
like they have like the Robin character and everything
else like that in the game, but you can only
use them in like the beat -em -up part and Not
in like the main story stuff now. I think Deadshot
you could use I think he had his own partial
story DLC I mean I But you know what I'm saying
like you couldn't take the Robin character and
just go bum around Arkham City in the open world
part Yeah, I know that's the one thing I wish
I could do and I know why they did that it's
because essentially they kept Batman was just
being reskinned It was just they were just reskinning
the the same character model and to do like Tim
Drake you'd have to like do an entirely different
character like Like because they're different.
They're different sizes is what I'm saying So
I understand why they did it But at the same
time, like, man, why couldn't I go bombing around?
There is like Nightwing or, you know, Robin or
Batgirl even, you know, like, come on. Oh, maybe
maybe with, you know, the power of all this and
the next gen stuff, maybe Arkham Knight will
do that, but it won't. It probably won't. But
if it does, I did hear rumors that Robin will
be in it. The Tim Drake one. Cool. Yeah, he doesn't
get enough usage. Honestly. I mean right now
there I wish they actually had Nightwing and
Tim Drake's Robin Or right Robin or somebody
like that, you know in in the Arkham Knight well
Tim's bad girls Oracle so that's that's out of
the Well, but isn't there there was a different?
Fat girl though, isn't there? There's been like
four. Yeah, there's the last son. I know it's
been a while with the last bad girl I knew was
either was deaf Or I remember it like maybe she
was in depth, but she never spoke I only know
her from the from the book no man's land She
took up the mantle of I Think that was like Cassandra
Cain, maybe yes. Yes There's Cassandra Cain that's
definitely Stephanie Brown And it's Barbara Gordon
again You know, the thing with Tim Drake is,
like, since Teen Titans ended, or restart, I
don't know, I don't keep, you know, I don't keep
a prize of the Teen Titans comics too much. I
know the series last year ended and they started
a new series, but they've got him running around
in Batman Eternal right now, and it's awesome.
I so want a Red Ramen series, honestly. That
would be great to have, just have Tim Drake buy,
you know... Doing his own thing He just doesn't
get enough use I don't think So, um Yeah, I had
a lot of a lot of comments on last week I'm not
gonna read them all but no, I think but real
quick though don't you know before we get in
the comments I think a lot of people miss the
part where I said franchise Yeah, I think so
I just want to put that up front. I'm not trying
to sound like a douchebag or anything I just
think a lot of people miss where I said franchise
like everyone listed off like great examples
of what we were talking about But the stipulation
was franchise So yeah with that in mind, let's
go ahead and go go through some of these Okay
Yeah, some of them listed Various films Like
Harry Potter and Hunger Games Snowpiercer Snowpiercer
is awesome If you have never heard of it, okay
The reason you haven't heard of it is because
it wasn't marketed very well There's a lot of
controversy around the way that this movie was
going to come to the like an audience But it's
on it's it's on pay -per -view right now or on
demand so you can rent it at home if you want
to see it in the theater, I think the closest
theater to us is Star at Great Lakes that has
it. But I think it's like between like four and
six dollars to rent it on demand. It's probably
the best movie I've seen all year. I rented it
last Sunday just on the praise that I saw for
in my Twitter feed, and I was not disappointed.
It has the stars Chris Evans. And Ed Harris oh
wow, and I don't want to try not to till the
Swinton and Don't know William Hurt Is also in
it it's it's a really good movie. It's basically
a post -apocalyptic. It's all set on like a luxury
train Strange It's a really cool setting. The
movie is a lot of fun. There's if you're paying
attention, like the every single thing like in
the movie is kind of like paid like there's a
reason for like everything that you see in the
movie. It's just really cool. I had a lot of
fun watching it. My wife was kind of on it, but
I really enjoyed it. So. Yeah, there were other
mentions of Dark Knight Rises. I agree with the
conversation that spun up around that one. Yeah.
It's not really a cliffhanger. It's kind of an
open ended thing. Yeah, it's definitely that.
I guess Pacific Rim does now count as a franchise.
So that one that one's valid. The Pacific Rim,
Idris Elba dying in that movie does count. But
like the one guy said that That was kind of expected
that they were going to die. That type of character.
Prisoners, as Insurgent Cinema suggested, but
that's not a franchise. Neither is Cabin in the
Woods. I wish Cabin in the Woods was a franchise,
but it's not. Wasn't that the Joss Whedon film?
It was produced by him. It's a Drew Goddard film.
It's the one with all the horror monsters, isn't
it? Yep. That is what I thought. Have you seen
it? yeah i've watched it oh i like that movie
i i liked it until it got to the very end and
then i was like wtf yeah i mean it has that moment
but at the same time i was like i was already
like on that roller coaster ride i was on the
roller coaster but i didn't like the abrupt stop
that was at the end um i liked i liked it up
until that point though i don't think horror
movies really count for this question either
because people are supposed to die in horror
movies Just about every main character can die
in those. Yeah The gray as Connor Murphy suggested,
but that's not a franchise The Hobbit definitely
is not a franchise and but each one does end
on a cliffhanger to get you to come Do you get
you to come back? Although well, I did not see
the desolation of smoke The first one the first
Hobbit movie didn't really end on a cliffhanger
for me. It just kind of ended Tron kind of did
like it to some degree as far as the one character
or the two characters are concerned Yeah, like
I said, I brought up the question and it was
just kind of like the first see when I sit there
I try to think about this is why I wanted to
ask the question because people Obviously different
movies are gonna pop up in different people's
minds Like when I was sitting there trying to
think about it It doesn't really Let's see at
the same time Tron to me Tron legacy was like
a passing of the torch I feel it was a passing
of the torch, but it left me wondering what happened
to the dad and Clue I mean, I know that they
were decimated but it also you want to know what
happens when a program is decimated What's that
you want to know what happens to a program when
it's decimated? Like no, I'm asking like I'm
saying that's what I'm saying. Like that's what
you like they were decimated the end of Tron
you kind of want to know like that side of it
now yeah I mean I'd like to know what happened
to them after the fact okay yeah that's one okay
because I mean I kind of was left wondering and
kept going you know okay this is this is a great
passing of the torch but where did they go right
I mean and then somebody said something about
Tron dying as well and I says no remember he
fell into the blue water So he healed and went
back to being good Tron I Don't think Channing
Tatum's dead no, I don't either I'm just I make
that joke because of 1987. Oh, it's all good.
I'm not I wasn't I wasn't Chris I wasn't actually
I wasn't actually commenting on what you said
I was more comment commenting on the whole the
just bring up Channing Tatum in retaliation I
don't think he's dead. I think what what happened?
I know that they did re -edits to add more Channing
Tatum into the movie Which is besides the post
-conversion. It's one of the reasons why it took
so long for it to be it was delayed a year but
The other thing too is I feel like the way that
he died was a little more He quote -unquote died
was a little more ambiguous to leave it open
for him to come back to the franchise because
when retaliation started Channing Tatum's popularity
hadn't quite taken off and By the time retaliation
was done, you know magic Mike had hit and I think
21 Jump Street had hit And so he was like he
was like a thing And so I was like, oh, man,
we took them out of our movie. Oh, shoot. Let's
put them back in there somehow. So. But I mean,
I guess I guess that might be the actually the.
I don't know. I don't feel like the Harry Potter
stuff counts because that's a that's a book adaptation.
True. So that wasn't like a surprise, like it's
just I don't know. It's kind of The only thing
that I for some reason the only one that really
jumps out at me is You know with the whole thing
that spurred this whole conversation, which was
you know Spock dying at the end of Star Trek
2 I think aren't those the only two movies two
and three to actually Full -on do continuity
between them and for okay because Yeah, because
four, Spock is still definitely messed up. Okay.
Which is why he's so freaking weird. Yeah, I
could be wrong though. Am I wrong, Steve? Two,
three, and four kind of go together? They actually
all kind of go together. Well, but like directly,
like as in no time has passed. Pretty much. You
know, times pass between one and two, then you
have... You know, two and three, it's literally
like hours. And then three to four, it's literally
hours. Yeah. So I feel like that's like that
I really want to try and scratch my head is like
what another one could have been. And what really
here's the thing. The other thing that kind of
the one that comes to back my mind is like a
failure besides like Into darkness to kill Chris
Klein's character, you know that Kirk the other
thing that kind of comes to mind is the the fate
of Tony Stark and Avengers Like that that entire
end sequence to me was ruined by Marvel's early
announcement of Iron Man 3 because they announced
Iron Man 3 before Avengers even had hit the theaters.
And following news the way that we do, it was
like you go, OK, so we know they're making an
Iron Man 3. So all of a sudden, like anything
that happens to like Tony in this movie, like
or any direction his character may be heading
like loses like all weight. Because you knew
he wasn't going to die. Exactly. So I feel like
and but in that defense, it's like maybe if they
had waited to. Announce a sequel You know like
if they wait till after the weekend to say, okay,
we're making an iron man 3 then maybe that's
that whole thing would have played out a little
like stronger because I remember going to see
spider -man 2 And I saw that three times in like
one day I saw a midnight showing of it a 10 a
.m. Showing of it and then a 10 p .m. Showing
of it all in the same day and that train sequence
had me on the edge of my seat the entire time
because Sam Raimi did such a good job of beating
the crap out of Peter Parker up until that point
that it was like is he going to save the train
like or is this just going to be the straw that
broke the camel's back and even though I know
that I knew from the first screening that I saw
that he saves the train the subsequent two screenings
that I watched the movie I was on the edge of
my seat the entire time. because of what's set
up before it I I just can't think of I Mean and
they did not you know, they didn't announce spider
-man 3 before that movie came out. So like anything
was up for grabs The only other franchise I can
think of as far as good really good cliffhangers
or Really good endings to bring you into the
next one back to the future one and two Back
to the future one and two works, but one remember
one was edited like there was one was re -edited
to link it to two. The ending that everyone sees
like on the DVDs and stuff like that is not the
original ending for that movie. But they they
changed it so so it would run into two. Then
yeah, but you're right. That's a good that those
are good cliffhangers But you see you see and
we brought up Pirates of the Caribbean as a good
as a good cliffhanger like character practically
Dead, but you know death was gonna be back anyways
What was that news story that came out recently
about five that it was moved to? 2017 yeah something
like that so I I don't know I'm As long as it's
not Frank Marshall, I'll probably pay attention
to who directed it. I'll probably go see it.
Well, I'm about done. Yep. I think that about
wraps it up for this week. So if you guys have
