About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve Blum, and you are listening
to the Geekcast Radio Network. Hi, this is Pat
Fraley, purveyor of duck, dog, and villain voices,
and you're watching Altered Geek. And welcome
to Altered Geek Unlimited, episode 46. I'm your
host, Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining me,
as always is... TfJo and Mike. Hello. Hello.
So... What's been new in your world lately? Since
we're gonna get into a bunch of fun TV -related
geeky conversation later. I got accused of trying
to steal a car tonight. How do you get accused
of stealing a car? Okay, so I'm gonna try to
make this story really short. Okay? Okay. Just
look at yourself and then look about five feet
away from you. My apartment is where you are.
About five feet away from you is where I was
taking my dog to do her business. About 20 feet
in the opposite direction is the parking lot
from where I'm standing Okay, having the dog
do her business, okay? So I'm 20 feet away from
my apartment building and this SUV comes rolling
in like it's gonna do a damn drive -by with blaring
ass music Okay, and I'm 20 feet away from the
building and I can still hear the music if I'm
in a completely do the place where I take my
dog is it's a parking lot but it has a grassy
area away from where the building is obviously
I do still pooper scoop and all that crap but
still it's one of those things where it's away
from my apartment complex and I can hear this
van or this SUV blaring ass music so I figured
the drivers sitting in there waiting on somebody
to come out of whatever of the building I go
up I walk up to the vehicle it has tinted windows
the windows are about a quarter of the way down
even if I wanted to I couldn't get my hand in
this damn vehicle I was just trying to see if
there was somebody in it to ask them to turn
the mother bleeping music down because it's 10
o 'clock at night and my mom is trying to sleep
and they're they're basically blocking the parking
lot from any other cars getting out of the parking
spaces and their car is five feet away from my
mom's bedroom window so i'd i can't even see
i i just go to yell and maybe five five steps
away from the car and not like right next to
it but i'm close enough to work and yell into
it i said hey can you turn the music out because
i couldn't say i can see if there's anybody in
the stupid car I go to walk away. I get five
feet away from the car. The owner comes up. I
don't appreciate you being around my car, man,
like you're gonna steal it. I got my dog in one
hand. I'm half crippled with cerebral palsy in
my other hand. How the f - am I gonna steal your
car? Why would I want to steal your damn car
in the first place? All is I came over there
to do was to say, hey, can you turn the music
down? Because it's 10 o 'clock at night and my
sick mother is in a room trying to sleep. Are
you - Swear, I hate people so much sometimes
and then the guy wouldn't he he kept going on
almost get away from my car blah blah blah I
live here too blah blah blah blah and He wouldn't
even listen to what I had to say drove off nearly
drove over my foot Next time that vehicles here,
I'm definitely calling the cops If you're going
to park somewhere and go in a building turn your
flinging car off don't just let music blare at
10 at 10 o 'clock at night while people are trying
to sleep and then I went up to my neighbors across
the building across from me is where he came
from I said does he live because he tried he
tried telling me that he lives here I asked him
I said does he live here no Why do I don't understand
if you ask people something why they I know it's
in general people's nature to lie about everything
but Why lie to me whether you live in the building
or not? That's so friggin stupid. Oh god, so
I'm dealing with that other than that I've been
playing classic Mario 3 the Super Mario all -stars
version in preparation for TV's mr. Neely reviewing
Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3 upcoming
in the next era of pixels in the animation We
did just do an interview with Captain and the
Game Master himself, Matt Hill. Nice. Very, very
awesome guy. Completely cool. Dude, he is 46
years old. He doesn't sound it at all. Yeah,
from the promo clip that you played earlier,
I was like, wow, he doesn't sound any different.
To begin with, I thought you were playing an
episode clip. Like, I was completely confused.
Well, I was in the middle of editing it when
we first started the call. I was in the middle
of putting music behind it. And, um... No, I
mean, the dude is awesome. Did you know that
he was the voice of Raph in Next Mutation? And
he was also the suit actor in the third movie
for Raph? Huh. Yeah. Weird. Yeah, very weird.
But awesome. I mean, the guy is amazing to talk
to. He's so fun. He... What oh it was the the
in in James Corlett interview we did where I'm
like, oh wow You're you're you're he's like,
yeah. Yeah, I am because a lot of times I don't
expect the voice actors as regular voice to be
whatever character I know them as and I wasn't
expect like I was expecting Matt to have to put
on the voice of Captain N and It's just his voice
and I what's so weird right before we had the
interview. I saw I caught a clip of him on one
of my movie channels that I get in Shanghai Nights,
I believe. Shanghai Nights. Shanghai knew one
of those Jackie Chan films. It's Captain and
the Game Master in western wear talking to Jackie
friggin' Chan. And I'm like, dude, that's Captain
and he sounds just like he did 20 -some -odd
years ago. It's crazy. It's awesome, but it's
crazy. So that was really fun. I'm having a blast
doing the pull bag. We just released the Turtles,
the IDW main Turtles series review for Secret
History of the Foot Clan. I'm telling you guys,
anybody that's reading or hasn't read IDW Publishing's
main title for T .H. United Turtles, go read
it from the beginning. It is very awesome. It
is a love letter to every single incarnation
of Turtles that has ever been. Simply awesome.
Nice. So that's pretty much what I've been doing.
Yeah, I've been dealing with Comcast still. I'm
still on my 30 -day window, but... Yeah, it's
such bullshit. You're gonna be in a 30 -day window
for the rest of your life, dude. I mean seriously
I'm gonna cancel it they I still I just checked
my bill while you were telling me everything
and Yeah, those bastards still haven't Fixed
it all the way like they dropped it partially
down because what they were doing is they were
charging me for The the damn HDR but error HD
DVR box Well, I shouldn't be charged for it at
all because it's a part of my package. So I don't
know where the hell that's coming in. And then
they still charge for one of the self -install
kits, it looks like. Oh, no, they credited that.
My bad. But yeah, it's... I don't know. They
just want too much damn money for... Crap quality.
It's I don't know. I've had so many problems
since I signed up again So I'm hoping that I
can find out from I'm hoping that I get a hold
18 team to find out if they're actually you know
in this area Because I would drop this crap in
a heartbeat So that's that's personally what
I've been doing There's a change going on with
another podcast on the network, which I'll wait
to reveal More so it's a title change in our
art change than anything else. It's not actually
a Content change. Yeah, the content will remain
the same as well the people involved and everything
else it's just a title change to make it make
a little bit more sense and kind of Not have
a double acronym Yeah So... But... Or an acronym
that says... You know, that could have been done
with actually mentioning the podcast. What? I
didn't say anything. Yes you did. You foolish
it. It's not like I said we spent... You're such
an ass. Oh, come on. I'm just having fun. Yeah.
You're such an ass. Come on with all this stuff
that I've been dealing with today. Come on. I
gotta have some sort of fun You can have that
later. There's there's better conversation Weekend
at the comic book store weekend at the sporting
event. You're fired get off the call Weekend
at the NBA Finals No Anyhow Think we should get
into some media content. Yes, since That's more
interesting than listen to you babble on about
a podcast title That should not be named. Anyway,
I Didn't say anything. No, but you're still babbling
about it So have you seen that I kind of put
it in there too, but there's this video of Andy
Serkis on Conan the only reason I watched it
cuz like don't get me wrong I don't care for
late -night TV at all like I some of it's okay
I like Jimmy Fallon I but that's because I've
watched him since Saturday Night Live, so it's
not Like I mean I didn't follow him on the late
show or anything, but I Find his personality
entertaining so I can stomach his show um but
uh conan's uh kind of hit or miss i it's more
i'd rather watch him than letterman but um anyways
uh andy circus was on there and he brought up
the fact that you know what would it sound like
if and played the you know the general fan um
you know what if this person talked to this person
scenario So he channeled Gollum and talked to
Caesar from Planet of the Apes and had them have
a conversation back and forth. And it was quite
entertaining. And it's funny because seeing his
facial reactions while he's doing it just makes
it so much more entertaining. I miss Johnny Carson.
I really do. Late night TV. As much as I used
to like Fallon on like Weekend Update and stuff
like that, I don't care for his late night style.
Seth Meyers is just godawful. His show, what's
funny is, certain pictures I've taken, people
have compared his look to mine. Which, I can
see it. some regards But he's so freaking dry
compared to like Fallon or any of the other most
like it's I Would rather watch the British guy
that's on the other station like on the other
local stations. I mean Craig Ferguson Craig Ferguson.
I yeah Craig. He's funky. He's funny. Yeah, but
Seth Meyers isn't No, Seth Meyers is good for
impressions. That's what he's good for But no,
I haven't watched late night like I try I really
did try with Jimmy going to tonight show I've
seen his late night show or After tonight show
or whatever the hell whatever the hell it was
called I don't even remember late night or whatever
I had seen several episodes of that over the
years, but I just I prefer him in movies than
I do on or or on SNL than I do anywhere else
and his tonight show just it it's a tonight show
for this generation it's not a tonight show from
my generation because the tonight show from my
generation is more so having a conversation with
the guest of what you're currently doing maybe
a few other off -topics and then Whatever, I
just can't get in and Conan. Oh god. I just don't
like that guy. It's has nothing to do with his
show I don't like him. I don't like his style.
I don't like his oh Everybody always complains
about JJ Abrams and lens flare Conan is my lens
flare for late -night county knows he has the
hair flare Well, yeah, that's what I'm talking
about the hair flare. He always has to you know
brush up his Donald Trump -esque toupee, or whatever
the hell it is, or get in the camera's face.
And it's like, oh my god, how is that funny?
It's not. But late night's not my thing anymore.
It really isn't. Yeah. So anyways, had you watched
the video? No. Roundabout way of getting back
to the topic. Okay. I think you should. It's
kind of funny, though. Because he does the Gollum
Schmiegel conversation against Caesar. And then
I learned some things I don't do when I do the
voice, so I now know what I need to add. Have
you seen the news on that? Oh, yeah, I am psyched
Yeah I'm not sure how it is gonna make any difference
with like Brett Ratner directing and being produced
by Jerry Bruckheimer who's You know Ratner did
I believe? X -Men 3 X -Men 3 and the rush hour
movies and okay. Okay, the rush hour movies kind
of redeems them then Because I mean I can see
I'm doing this kind of comedy then And then Jerry
Bruckheimer knows action because pirates and
national treasure and all that stuff. I'm still
waiting on that damn movie. When is he going
to give me National Treasure 3? I believe they're
working on it. Like, I'm working on trying to
get it going. I've been hearing about that for
the last four or five years now. We're also hearing
about Dumb and Dumber 2 and look what's happened.
It's not like it's Ghostbusters. Come on, that's
a low blow. Well, they've been blowing on that
horn since 2005 Nobody's answered the call Get
it Yes, yeah, there's nobody to call they all
went home they got bored adults They shot one
of them I Think that in this day and age of franchises
like born like no matter if people like it or
not like the current state of the Fast and the
Furious franchise, the heist film state of that
franchise, franchises like Bourne, like one other
action franchise, the Expendables, those kind
of action film franchises, I think with Beverly
Hills Cop, One, Two, and Lesser Extent Three
being all action comedy films, I think the right
way to go for them is to do more Beverly Hills
Cop films versus a TV series. Oh yeah, definitely.
I just hope that they don't pull a die -hard
five. I don't have a problem with any Murphy
coming back playing the character and I don't
have a problem with it, as long as they keep
true to the character and the style of Beverly
Hills Cop. Right. I know they're gonna modernize
it and I they they have to keep that that axle
Foley music Oh, I'm sure they will they have
to because that would just sure suck ass if they
replaced it Harold Fulton Myers axle F theme
is just amazing. I know I love that theme Anyways
and then the other guy that's that's in it that
was in the first three I believe he's going to
reprise. He reprises? Oh my god. And then it
would be funny if they got, what's his face?
It's on last minute standing. Hector Elizondo.
Yeah. Well Hector Elizondo was on the third one.
Yep. He was funny on that one. Yeah he was. I
liked him better than the other guy. Just but
just think about this. Okay, judge Reinhold the
first time I ever saw him was in the first two
well first three Beverly Hills cop movies the
next time I saw him was as Neil in the Santa
Claus and just imagine an old Billy Rose an old
Billy Rose would oh my god, that's funny. I I'm
hoping like I don't loathe Beverly Hills Cop
3, but at the same time, I don't like it compared
to the other two, but it is a decent movie. It
evolutionized the characters a little bit. Taggart's
off in retirement. Billy's this new head of DDJ,
GSI, whatever the hell it is. I really enjoyed
the third one just because it seemed like it
evolved their characters and wrapped them up
better. Right, exactly. It was like the button
on the trilogy. Yeah, no and I and I and I and
I agree with that But in that movie they basically
gave Billy who is Irresponsible is all hell a
lot of times and can't make good decisions. They
gave him all this power. And of course, what
does he do with it? He doesn't make good decisions.
So I'm hoping they don't redo that I'm hoping
that if Billy Rosewood does come back if judge
Reinhold does come back that they do something
with his character that Still retains the comedy
of the original Versions of the film and the
character, but not the stupidity that happened
in the third one. He'll be police chief now.
Is Ronnie Cox still alive? Because if Ronnie
Cox is still alive, I would love to see Boga
Mill. That would be funny. But yeah, and the
funny thing is they're filming it in Michigan.
Yes, they are. In the Detroit area, which seems
to be a trend we've had. Oz, the great and powerful.
We've had Transformers 4. We've had Batman, Superman.
And then it'll be Beverly Hills Cop, which is
awesome that all this stuff's coming to Michigan.
It's like Michigan's the new Hollywood. Yeah,
pretty much. We have all the better scenery and
it's cheaper here. We're all poor. But no, I'm
kind of glad that they're bringing this back
instead of doing the TV series like we kind of
talked about in some earlier episode last year
Yeah Just because I it doesn't work without Eddie
Murphy. I Mean if it was something that Eddie
didn't want to do the character anymore. I mean
he still When was Beverly Hills cop 3 what 93
some 20 some yeah somewhere around there. I mean,
it's been almost 20 years It's like almost the
difference between Diehard three and four and
even that wasn't that it was like a 12 -year
gap Yeah, so I mean it's been 20 some odd years
since Beverly Hills cop 3 I know it's been at
least 25 almost 30 years since Beverly Hills
cop 2 so As long as he wants to keep coming back
and doing them all well good and fine but if
something ever happens where he doesn't want
to do Axel anymore or heaven forbid anything
happens to him at all you know a lot of these
you know a lot of actors that sometimes will
pass away unexpectedly like Paul Walker's you
know sad to see him go but sometimes the movies
that they're that they're in sometimes they don't
go the direction of a margin the character versus
just rebooting sometimes they just do a straight
reboot so if at if any never ever wants it doesn't
do it anymore my whole point here is as long
as they have him in some sort of cameo role after
this next film and then he passes on to his son
and they have some sort of up -and -coming newcomer
that's Axel jr. Or whatever I I don't quite mind
that but I'm glad to see that he is coming back
and I I'm so stoked for whatever this next one's
gonna be I'm stoked for it. I just I Honestly,
if they're not gonna have him reprise I'd rather
see them not do the film Mm -hmm. It's it's the
same thing with like die -hard or Indiana Jones
or any of those type things like if you're gonna
have the guy have the guy don't Don't replace
them, you know, don't don't I mean even in police
academy when they they got rid of Steve Guttenberg's
character They replaced him with a different
guy Who is more of a bumbling guy, but he kind
of looks similar so that kind of filled the same
role And then they had him do it for the last
three films they at least made a different character
and At the same time never really made reference
to the Mahoney character again after that but
I'd rather these, because of how great they were
in the 80s and early 90s, I'd rather see them
keep it pure and not just dilute the waters and
add more things that don't need to be there.
Kind of like, I mean, you look at Die Hard 4
and 5. 4, I would argue, is pretty good. It's
like a modern evolution of the Die Hard films,
okay? Die Hard 5, bad shit, terrible. Should
have never been made because one it's in it's
in freaking Russia. It has nothing to do with
like he's just randomly there because his son's
there and You know and at the same time like
that entire film The John McClane character was
phoned in Compared to die -hard fought before
and then all you hear him yell pretty much to
the entire film is Jack Jack And his son and
the character, you know, it's it's just it was
terrible So and by adding that dynamic is I mean
look at Indiana Jones for I mean they added Shia
LaBeouf and and it buffed right down to the toilet,
so The only good thing about that movie is the
ending and I don't mean that because I wanted
the movie to end But I mean what happens at the
ending with with referencing Sean Connery's character
But I mean I I haven't physically seen it yet
But I haven't finished watching the other Indiana
Jones films, which I know blasphemy on me, but
I just I haven't gotten around to it. I've watched
so many other movies. It's kind of sick. So I
guess we should move on to other news. Did you
see the next born film information delayed? Yeah.
Did you see why Damon yeah, they might actually
get him back If they get him back great, you
know That's that's fine with me I am glad that
I'm not one of those early adopters of blu -ray
at all considering that they're finally Fixing
that Star Trek debacle Yeah I don't know what
to think about that Yeah, it's another cash grab
kind of pisses me off honestly But but at least
all the content is in one place now instead of
over multiple different retailers you have to
buy the damn movie well from so many damn different
places just to get a Commentary or to get this
or to get that well in in the breakdown as it's
supposed to be the ultimate blu -ray set of of
you know the The compendium or whatever the Abrams
version which still gonna be wrong. They're all
right I don't have a problem with it, but if
I'm gonna spend 40 bucks I'm gonna buy the entire
like original series set of films or the TNG
set on Blu -ray or I'm not buying two damn films,
especially when I already own them in Blu -ray,
I mean for instance you get Star Trek 2009 you
get a high definition, you know commentary with
all the producers, writers and director and then
the disc too has the to boldly go and then they
have all this more information from them talking
about their challenges and strategy for it and
then the branching of things in it, the casting,
the new vision and starships and just them trying
to explain their version of everything. Which,
you know, fine, whatever, but truthfully I don't
give a rat's ass about any of that stuff. They
do have the score stuff in there, they do have
the gag reel, which those I usually like. I mean,
I like some of the behind the scenes stuff. I
just don't care when they're sitting there talking
through my movie. And then you get into darkness
and you get the IMAX version. which, why they
didn't do that in the first place, kind of eyeballs
the mind. And then they start going through more
of the, you know, rebuilding and all the vengeance
and, you know, the ships and, you know, all that
other crap. And then they've got, which this
kind of irritates me is for Into Darkness, they've
got the new deleted scenes, new gag reel. The
the costumes it's funny that they mentioned the
costumes because The Admiral uniforms were rehashes
from Star Trek the motion picture What jeez like
they're the same exact damn uniform and then
and the the little red ones It's like a mixture
of that and the original series like red uniforms.
So it's it's again. It's another one of those
situations where There's not really that much
originality in it. It's all copied from original
canon. If I really want to watch either one of
the films, at least Into Darkness right now is
on Netflix. I mean, I'm not gonna go out and
buy this. I am happy that they are putting all
the content in one release though. I know you
don't care for them. You normally don't care
for commentaries on films sometimes, but I know
some people really are interested in the director
commentary or whatever. is on there. And you
can only get that with one version of it from
one store or whatever it was. And so I am kind
of glad that they are putting it all in one,
but I'm like you, I'm not gonna put 40 bucks
into it. I'll buy, I'll, you know, I'll jump
into darkness when, you know, it drops down to
20 bucks, but. If it ever does I do like the
fact that you know, I'm this link anyway They
show the IMAX verse blu -ray footage and the
IMAX does away with those black bars And you
do actually get more picture back Which is nice
don't be wrong. I just yeah, I'm not paying 40
bucks for Crap that should have been in it first
place. Oh No, I agree What's what's next what's
next on the gauntlet? I got it through this in
last minute Supernatural season 10 They're plotting
a retrospective special Jumping from the first
nine seasons So they're gonna air it before season
10 errors more or less probably to catch people
up because as I stated before and my theory in
this the show Think season 10 will be the end
Because they you know the spin -off failed You
know the way that the characters are you know
looking to tie things up as I mentioned with
my theory before And it's a supernatural will
premiere its 10th season on October 7th after
the series premiere of arrows spin -off the flash
which I'm kind of glad that, you know, I'll have
the flash and then Supernatural to watch. Yeah.
And then it says on October 6th, they'll see
that nine season retrospective at 9 p .m. I think
I'm assuming Eastern time because that seems
to be the main one that everybody goes by. It
says immediately following the sixth season premiere
of The Vampire Diaries, which So sorry if anybody
likes that show I just I can't do the vampire
shit It says that uh The guy that plays Crowley
will finally for season 10 become a series regular
which makes sense with my theory Again, because
you know angel with Sam demon with Dean So, um,
but it's going to go through the, you know, the
season nine finale and, uh, um, this is, uh,
the CW has also committed to developing another,
uh, spinoff to replace the failed bloodlines
because they're trying to grasp at straws to
replace it instead of just making like a Wonder
Woman show or making a, you know, uh, Cyborg
show or Green Lantern show or something, you
know jumping into another character instead of
Trying to milk this I think people are kind of
done with the supernaturalistic stuff, which
is why a lot of it's going away and not coming
back Everybody's jumping to superheroes now which
again, I don't have a problem with either way.
I just I Don't like generally spin -offs of shows
Whereas arrow I think did it right with using
Barry Allen in the show and then kind of you
know growing him Through episodes plus everybody
knows who the hell he is Yeah, when you looked
at supernatural the characters were ultimately
unlikable and It was I don't know it was kind
of a boring episode to be a pilot that they had
in there but Yep, they'll In Comic -Con 2014,
they're supposed to reveal their information
on season 10 and whatnot, so. Interesting. Yeah,
there's so many things that are called Comic
-Con nowadays, since Comic -Con International
has a Comic -Con in every damn city. It's kind
of like, hey, wait, didn't that art? Oh, no,
you mean the real Comic -Con, the one in San
Diego. Okay. As you see, no, I was talking about
the... See to eat you know, I meant, you know,
NY NY comic -con. Oh shoot. Which one are you
talking about again? I guess I'll bring up the
Transformers Hall of Fame this year. Yeah Simply
amazing it's 1986 all over again ladies and gentlemen
because on the fictional side Hot Rod aka Rodimus
Prime and RC got in. On the human side, Stan
Bush is in the Transformers Hall of Fame. You
know, and this is actually quite interesting
because with the recent backlash from fans about
their early screenings of Transformers 4, more
so because they stated it's a three hour film.
It shouldn't have been more than two hours and
20 minutes. because obviously they threw in a
shitload of human crap that wasn't needed. I
also heard that the last 20 minutes is actually
the only parts that have the Dinobots, which
it's supposed to be age of extinction yet. You
don't bring in the damn dinosaurs until the end.
Seems mighty lackluster and stupid to me, but
you know, whatever. I haven't seen it, so I can't
really comment accurately. I'm just going off
of what I've read from people commenting about
it that have seen it. I know. But that also leads
to the other part of this conversation, which
is that many sites are coming up with the reason
why Transformers, the movie, the 1986 animated
version is the only good Transformers film. Yes,
which it's funny that the tagline is on the movie
poster is beyond good, beyond evil, beyond your
wildest imagination, because it's actually true.
It's actually good You know I actually took that
tagline and it's part of tune cast beyond you
know that right You know It's one of those things
where Some people I know not personally but some
some Podcast I don't even remember I I got so
mad I had to stop listening the first 20 minutes
of some podcast that I forget what it is. It's
these three guys that constantly, as far as I
can tell, they don't set out to tell you that
their podcast is about reviewing bad movies.
There's a difference. If you're going to sit
there and do a movie review podcast, but you're
going to do 20 minutes of just bashing the stars
before you even get to the plot of the movie.
Sounds like you and Green Lantern. No, it's like
10 minutes, but anyway. um point is I've heard
several people bash the transformers movie oh
and I'm so sick of this oh it was just done to
sell they killed optimus prime so they could
sell the new toy line whether that was true or
not transformers movie has a story from beginning
middle to end there are some things that are
very nonsensical in it I I will admit that it
but out of everything generation one related
it is the best thing we've ever gotten it's the
only thing generation one i can still watch all
the way through and not fall asleep okay then
um what else are we talking about um what is
uh okay I assume since I looked at this link,
I assume you're applying to this I hope you get
it, but because I want to support you man, but
I'm sorry I could not support king of the nerds.
I saw that on DBS last year and I'm like, oh
my god Well, the thing about it is it's not really
even fully that Yeah, it's a stupid reality show
let's be for real yeah, but that's what I'm saying
I Saw that and I'm like again. They they over
inflate people's personalities Which is any reality
show? Yeah, and then they put them in things
that There are situations that may or may not
actually go with anything that they know about
Mm -hmm despite the fact that you know, it's
what it is And then they give them these weird
I mean, I'm sure some of them are weird, but
you know that a lot of that's played out as far
as you know personality i mean i'm sure some
of them really are that way but i'm sure that
it's extended um but no i mean i figured hell
why not i just came across the link the other
day and i was like i think i'll give it a shot
never know oh yeah no i mean you know i doubt
i'll hear anything back from it but again i You
know, never know if you don't try. Absolutely.
So I'm going to make a video after recording
this and submit it. And if it actually sees the
light of day, then great. If it doesn't, then
I gave it a shot. Break a leg. The funniest thing
about King of the Nerds isn't even the reality
show itself. It's who's in the show. as the host.
Oh, I know. It's the Revenge of the Nerds. Yeah,
it's the Revenge of the Nerds guy, Robert Carradine.
But the strangest thing is, I didn't recognize
him because of those movies. I recognized him
because he was Lizzie McGuire's father on the
Disney Channel. See, I recognize him for the
other reason. Yeah. And then Curtis Armstrong,
he's Metatron on Supernatural. Oh interesting
Since I brought up the Disney Channel, I guess
we can go that route now you said you don't necessarily
like spin -off series Typically, I don't if they're
because most of the time they're not done right
hmm arrow Has done it right with the flash from
everything I've seen so far all right Disney,
which, because we'll get more into this in a
second, but they've recaptured the same writers,
series creator, producers that published the
show that the sequel is for. They put it on the
family channel in ABC. Which is the higher up
version of Disney Channel? Well ABC family is
is yeah, it is like the it's it's like the older
version of the of Disney Yeah, it's the tween
channel pretty well. It's actually above that
a little bit. It's it's like the high tween But
anyways okay anyway they I Think they're doing
it right here after having watched the first
episode I think they'll do it a lot of justice
because like I said, it's everybody involved
that was in the original thing. So it's not gonna
get screwed up. It's been 14 years since Boy
Meets World's last episode aired. In the series
finale, Corey and Topanga moved to New York.
Fast forward to now, 14 years later, the Disney
Channel has launched, or will be launching as
of this recording, Girl Meets World. It is a
sequel series. It does star Ben Savage and Danielle
Fischl, Escora and Topanga. And they have two
children, Riley and Augie. They are in New York.
Cory is now a teacher. And Riley is his seventh
grade age daughter. Now I've been stoked about
this ever since I saw a promo on the Disney Channel
YouTube page Because let's face it boy meets
world captured in a lot of hearts that show was
amazing Boy meets world was to the 90s as the
wonder years was to the 80s. Well, it's got the
same brother Well Fred Savage and Ben Savage
are brothers, but yeah. But Girl Meets World,
I'm really interested to see where it goes after
watching the first episode. I think it's doing
everything right. I love the line that Riley
says, how long do I have to live in my father's
world? And he comes back at her and says, until
you make it yours. I love that line. I love the
end of this. Well, I love the, the, well. Go
ahead. Because obviously we can't do a full -on
review yeah Of this at this point anyway But
it was kind of interesting seeing All the similarities
between boy meets world and girls meets world
Because you have the friend that's like, you
know, you have the the quarry which is his daughter
and you have the the Sean which is and you know
remember the you know there's this like Sean
doing the rebellion in class and then Maya doing
the same thing and Farkel's like the Fink like
the Finkus or whatever Minkus whatever and then
you know so they have the same thing kind of
going on Well, here's the funny thing. I don't
think Muck is since Maya's last name is not Whatever
Sean's last name was yes. She is a Sean like
character The funny thing is Farkel is Minkus's
son That's funny and I do know from doing research
online that William Russ Betsy Randall the Corey's
parents Alan and Amy Sean and I believe also
Minkus will be returning as guest stars. I don't
know how often. I know Harley Keiner is going
to be back. He's the janitor at the school. Yes.
What really interests me about the premise as
far as Cory and Topanga's angle is At one point
during the episode, Cory mentions the principal
of the school. Now, we know that Mr. Feeny retired
at the end of the series, of the original series.
I want to say that it's going to be Turner. That
could be. Because they never explained in the
original what happened to him after his motorcycle
accident. Right, right. So it would make perfect
sense if he was the principal of the school.
I could see that. And I could also see if it
was Feeny as well, because he was the principal
of the other school at one point. Well, this
is the thing. Did you pay attention to the the
wall markings in this? A little, you know, at
the end, you mean? No, no, I'm saying like in
the beginning. No, it's the same damn school
that Cory went to. Oh, yeah. They take the train
to get there. Yeah, it's the same damn school
because the New York is they said it's only like.
45 minute ride from the Philadelphia or whatever
That particular spot It's still the John Adams
middle school And I caught that while I was watching
and I was like that is actually really funny
and then they have a Feeny sign that says, you
know read, you know Like one of those, you know,
something you see in a library type thing, but
they had it like, I don't know if it was the
subway station or if they had it. Yeah, it was
at the subway station. Yeah, it was. It was the
final scene. Well, they had it earlier in the
show too. Yeah, but it was it was funny because
I'm seeing all these similarities to the original
show in this. And then I'm like, some of this
has played out before in Boy Meets World, which
made it that more enticing because it's happening
to Corey. Yeah. See, that's the thing. It's because
it is a continuation. Instead of it happening
over and over and over to Alan and Amy, his parents,
it's now happening to him because he's the adult.
And then he's trying to teach and everything
else. And it's funny. And then some of the quips
that go between Corrine Topanga and the show.
They haven't lost their chemistry as actors playing
those characters at all. No, and she said this
one comment, well, the thing is, is their chemistry
that they had towards the end of Boy Meets World,
you can definitely still feel that vibe. Absolutely.
Especially in that smartass comment that Cori
said to Topanga, or Topanga said to Cori, and
Cori says, well, you let me do it. Yeah. I think
I think the line was let's get married. You said
let's have kids you said Well, you let me do
it. Yeah But yeah, it was it was great and then
you know the end where you know She kind of reclaims
the world kind of thing or starts taking on her
own world and you actually see Feeny Yeah, which
was great like in it and it was like in a in
a passing kind of thing but you know of a Him
imagining it but Well, yeah, because he looks
they're they're in the subway station and you
have younger Feeney with a poster There's they're
in the subway station you have a stay -in -school
poster with George Feeney on it and then you
have Cory looking at the poster and then imagining
Feeney being there and He just has that one line
I don't know how often or if he'll come back.
William Daniels looks... He looks old. Old in
that shot. But I do believe that there is going
to be a recurring rule for him. I'm trying to
see here. I think that they're all going to be
there. give or take I think that I Think that
they're they're going to have some of the older
characters show up like Harvey, you know Harley
Kiner He's in like three episodes Right, and
I found it funny because I've seen the screenshot.
He's gonna be the janitor Shawn's gonna be in
two episodes Yep, Sean Hunter. He's only in one
episode. I have a feeling that he may show up
for one more, but I don't think that he'll really,
I don't think he'll show up again. I think it's,
it was more of a nice nod. And then the parents
have been in one episode, you know, that have
been recorded. And then Eric Matthews, it says
unknown, which means he's probably been in more
than one, but they don't want to give that information.
Well, see here's the thing this is gonna be in
one and yeah, here's the thing according on take
this with a grain of salt people According to
Wikipedia the recurring cast is Farkel. Obviously
Farkel's part of the new cast really Sean Hunter
Joshua Matthews now a lot of people might not
remember Joshua Matthews. Oh, yes Joshua Matthews
a baby score. He was Corey's younger brother
at the end of boy meets world Feeny Harvey as
you said Stuart Looks like he's going to be part
of the recurring and obviously Alan and Amy Matthews
the put the parents What's so funny is Stuart
Stuart Minkus now looks nothing like his nerd
days as a child the guy have you seen the picture
of him and you clicked on on his On his bio at
all. He looks totally different. He looks totally
different. They're gonna have to really nerd
him up to put him back in or maybe just have
him wear some glasses and play up to Farkel.
I don't know. I love the whole concept of the
show. I'm not gonna lie, I teared up as all hell
at the end of the first episode because of that
cameo. So did I. It's mostly because of the nostalgia
that we've, you know. Yeah, and it's one of those
things where it's the way it was shot. It was
those angles and the way their facial features.
It wasn't even that. It was the way the final
shot is before Feeny disappears from Corey's
mind. They have a shot where it's Feeny leaning
up against the poster and it's the back of Corey's
head to the camera. I've got a picture of it
all. Have you throw it in the poster? I have
it too. I screen shined it too. It's just one
of those things where it's like, oh my god, they
are doing everything right with this series.
Boy Meets World itself was, in the first season,
it was the grade school years. Seasons two through
five was high school, and then seasons six and
seven were college and then adulthood. It started
out as a really fun comedy that tackled a few
young grade school kid issues. As it grew, it
tackled a lot more, not necessarily controversial
issues, but complicated issues, I'll say. The
whole storyline with Sean's father and everything
else. I don't know what's going to happen with
this, but I cannot wait until more episodes.
I'm loving it so far. How often do you actually
get to see Actors reprise a role not very You
know over a decade later. I mean and when I say
that not in film Yeah, yeah, I mean you may sometimes
see an animation. You know it happens, but in
TV generally never see them play that character
again So I mean it to me that's like the ultimate
nod and then I like the fact like I said that
it's the original Creator and series writers
and producers and everything. I think that's
why it still captures that essence. Absolutely.
That's the beautiful thing because Disney owns
ABC and vice versa or whatever it is. I don't
know who owns who. I think it's Disney that owns
ABC. Disney owns ABC. Disney owns everything.
if only they owned Warner Brothers and DC Comics.
Anyway. Well, then you'd have all kinds of funky
crossovers. That would be a good thing. Anyway,
because it is Disney, because it is ABC, that's
where Boy Meets World originated, was ABC. And
having it be on the Disney Channel brings you
a new audience, but it also brings people back
like us that have watched the original show.
And it's that heart that... Girl Meets World
is gonna last on the Disney Channel, I don't
know for how long, but where if it was on ABC,
it might not catch that kid, because ABC has
gone way towards more adult programming now.
They don't do TGIF anymore, any of that kind
of stuff. And I think Girl Meets World is going
to at least last one season for sure, I know,
and then maybe a second or I hope a third. I
think this show has a lot of potential, even
if it does repeat the format of the original
series of grade school, high school, adulthood.
Well, I think that that would make sense for
this because they've done that in every other
Disney show. I mean, that's just a logical progression.
You can't have them not age. Yeah. It will also
I mean I know that some of the storylines are
gonna get reused and there's gonna be a different
twist to it But it's gonna be similar and then
because it's gonna be the reaction of Cory having
to deal with it Instead of him and Sean originating
it Plus the unique dynamic that it's his daughter
Yeah, like oh like when he dragged away the boy
that she liked and then he says you ever been
to Mexico or whatever It was Texas. He says come
on. Let's go and then he wheels him out I mean
it's I mean it's it's it's it's nice This was
a little bit before your time, but Well, you
remember one part of this reference. You won't
remember the other part. I Was really surprised
to see Jackie Harry as a guest in this on the
subway the lady the lady on the subway When she's
like here this is for you and she picks my she
picks Riley up and sits her on the boys laughs
she likes Jackie Harry was the mom from sister
sister. I remember that I that's what I thought
when I saw her face I was like, that's funny.
She is also Originally, I first saw her back
in the 80s as a child on the series 227 Hmm Very
very girl meets world. They are firing on all
all cylinders. Really they are And I guess I'll
bring this up briefly I'm still in the middle
of writing this up a little bit. Resilient Isles
on TNT is a police procedural starring Izzy Harmon
and Sasha Alexander. Most people will remember
Sasha Alexander from her time as Kate Todd on
NCIS with Mark Harmon. But it's a TNT police
procedural and it's based in Boston. So obviously
I'm from Boston. I love it. When I first started
watching this show, I was like, oh, hey, wait.
That's the famous Jet Jackson. He's all grown
up. They had Lee Thompson Young as one of their
stars on Resilient Isles. And sadly, last year,
he committed suicide. and they had taken a while
to take care of his character on the show and
this past week they really did and I it wasn't
just because they worked with him for the four
previous seasons on the show so when Angie Harmon
was reading the eulogy as the character on the
show it was like Wasn't just the character reading
a script. It was her and you know the cast having
emotions, you know Lee's gonna be sorely missed
He was a great actor, but it just kind of surprised
me that a former Disney Channel star ended up
on You know a full -time, you know kind of other
network drama thing versus what we would normally
see him on Disney Channel and you know may he
rest in peace But it was a great way that they
dealt with with the character on the show. Absolutely
love that What else have I been watching? I've
been watching Turtles. Turtles has been doing
fairly well. Coming up this coming weekend. They
are going to be doing trans 4th of July on the
hub. They're gonna be airing Multiple different
versions of transformers over the years. I think
this is the first I could be wrong about this
I'm not looking at any info, but I think this
is the first time ever the hub is going to air
transformers the movie I could be wrong. I don't
know. I've only had the hub a couple of years
now um... but they're going to hear that they're
going to hear rescue bots they're going to i
think they're going to hear a few other g1 episodes
sometime between eleven a .m. eastern and two
or three p .m. eastern saturday july fourth or
friday july fourth i'm sorry they're going to
have a sneak peek of next year's robots in disguise
i wish i knew what time this was going to be
on because i can't DVR all this entire thing.
It's a Friday afternoon. I might not be doing
anything. So I might be able to watch the whole
thing, but I don't know. So I'm just really interested
to see that that preview of robots in disguise
for next year. Yep, I'll probably tune into that.
Well done on the hub, but after the fact, I don't
have the hub. Pretty sure I won't have cable,
but. It's Comcastic. It's Comcrastic. It's craptastic.
But yeah, I think we'll finish the media news
there and come back after a quick break with
your comments before we close out the show. Hi,
I'm Colin Baker. My name's Fraser Hines. Hi,
I'm Daphne Ashbrook. This is Andrew Cartmuller.
Hi. This is Colleen Spore. Hello, I'm Simon Fischerbecker.
This is Ian McNeese. Hi, this is Travis Richie.
You listen to this bark. Boom for two minutes.
Listen to Markhoo42's universe. If you're into
Doctor Who, listen to Markhoo42's universe. We
always have the latest Doctor Who news, reviews,
and interviews. We are available on iTunes, Stitcher
Radio, Geekcast Radio Network, and our home base,
Marku42 .net. Marku42, the meaning of life. And
we're back with Altered Geek Unlimited. So. So.
So what? So what? So what, what? All right. Okay,
before we get into feedback, since we went on
this track of So What's What, what do you think
of Jack Kirby's heirs trying to basically stop
Marvel from doing anything with any of Kirby
-inspired characters or Kirby -created characters?
I know we're out of the media news, but I had
to bring that up. Honestly? Yeah. Don't care.
And when I say that, I don't mean it to be kind
of a dick more or less. Go ahead. Marvel has
always credited Kirby. Always. This isn't a situation
like Bill Finger, where Bill Finger has gotten
absolutely zero credit a lot of the time for
Batman. or for Gotham City, or for any of the
other things that he helped Bob King create.
This is basically them saying, well, we want
money, so we want these characters back, so you
can't have them anymore when, according to the
article that you're gonna have in the show notes,
I believe it says in there that Kirby was a work
for hire. So, sure, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created
characters together, but it's not like Stan has
all the credit. You know and it's like these
heirs want Marvel to stop using his characters
really that means you're not gonna get any more
x -men You're not giving you any more spider
-man, you know, are you kidding? I get anything
because there's no Avengers no x -men. No Fantastic
Four no Thor Yeah, exactly. Why are these heirs
trying to do this? I don't understand I don't
understand this at all. It just it boggles my
mind what some people will do for Cheap a quick
buck. But anyway Feedback feedback. What do we
have for feedback? Yes Personally, I'd like feedback
on that but uh Well, yeah but yeah Well feedback
is Last week we asked What is a thing you'd like
to see come true that was invented with an icky
-dicky show I don't know if I actually mentioned
that in the show or if I wrote it after the fact.
Probably wrote it after the fact. But it was
answered a little bit. King of Kong says, I'd
love to see the TARDIS come true. One of my all
-time favorite science fiction inventions. And
then SuperFilmFan98 says, I'd only be OK with
the TARDIS existing if we also have a Time Lord
to make sure it is used properly. Otherwise,
we would have chaos. I'll take a DeLorean before
I take a time -traveling police box, thank you
very much. I would take the powers of the Q.
I can bend space -time and get anywhere I want
within seconds just by snapping my fingers. Thank
you very much. Omnipotent. It's better than dying
every time they need a new, you know, universe.
Yeah, he just snaps his fingers and he leaves
Sorry, I didn't mean to have a bad Doctor Who
smash there, but it does kind of happen I always
when anyone ever says oh his name is the doctor
his name isn't Doctor Who I always say Doctor
Who like it's a question What is that show? Who
is that? Where is that doctor? You know, Doctor
Who is a show that has had an immense fan base
growth and that's all well and fine. It's not
for me, honestly. It really isn't. I've tried.
I really have. I've watched three episodes of
the 2005 series from each doctor. So I think
up to the ninth or the tenth one. I don't know.
Whatever's on Netflix. And I just It's a British
show. I can't get into it. I Hate sounding like
that too, but that's kind of same thing with
me. I have a hard time watching British shows.
I don't know why Maybe I'm unintelligent in that
area. It just maybe that's why it doesn't you
know, I just I can't I Have a hard time watching
anything with like a That kind of I don't know
maybe I'm just stupid I don't know Freddy Savage
says I feel bad, but the only reason I knew about
Casey Kasem was because of Saved by the Bell.
For a long time, I didn't even realize he was
a real person. I thought he was just a character
from the show. What can I say? I was young and
dumb. I knew him because I knew he did the top
40. I'd heard it from time to time when stations
were changed. But I also knew he was Robin and
Shaggy. And I mostly knew him as Shaggy and Cliff
Jumper later on. And then Andre Walter says,
I never really listened to the Top 40 either,
but I did know him for his voice work, which
again, that's pretty much the same situation
as me. At least everybody's heard of him. That's
the key thing. Like I said last week when we
talked about Casey Kasem that that to me was
my Like everybody goes to church on Sunday or
most everybody goes to church on so it was like
your holy grail of the week That was my church
on Sunday. It was listening to Casey Kasem. It
really was I Want to replicate that voice now
no, I Don't mean it to be disrespectful. I just
meant so that it would it would live on forever
You know the funny thing I said this I think
on the talking about my generation podcast The
saddest thing about and I think I said this last
week and I don't mean to repeat myself constantly
but sometimes I have to I wish that his illness
had not taken away his voice because As soon
as I saw one of the ripped apparel designs, the
one with the cassettes on it, the t -shirts that
I have on it, it says instead of time life music,
it says prime life music. I would love to hear
a Casey Kasem voice saying prime life music.
That would be so amazing. You'd like him to just
go up and go, this is prime life music. Yeah,
pretty much. No matter how you knew him as long
as you knew of him. That's this really all the
all that I'm getting at people Was was among
the the he will live in the stars as a voice
God Mm -hmm Absolutely and You know What else
are we doing in this episode? Well, I think briefly
because I noticed this was an off -the -cuff
Mike powers said he Because he was talking about
the the battlefield Hardline lines I actually
got beta access to that. Did you? Yeah I played
it Didn't quite care for it It kind of reminded
me of It gave that I almost wanted to say Grand
Theft Auto vibe, but it didn't something about
it just rubbed me the wrong way. It was almost
like playing Call of Duty mixed with something
else. Like it was, the graphics were kind of
jarring compared to like Battlefield 4 or something
like it. I have my graphics like I have good
system and it looked kind of choppy to me. My
Unreal Tournament 3 looked better in most cases.
And I don't know. I didn't like how it ran from
the browser. It wasn't just an application. It
was an application, but it ran through the internet
browser. I don't like that. I got it through
Origin or whatever, because that's how you had
to get it. They had two different levels you
could try out, like Heist and something else.
And I played both. It was all right. I tried
out the machine gun thing and then it like jumps.
I had to reconfigure all my keyboard stuff so
that I could actually move and shoot good. And
then I finally got I switched to a sniper rifle
and I was doing a little bit better picking stuff
off. But because of how high you have to go to
some things and some of the lighting was kind
of goofy and people were picking me off pretty
quick. But I mean, it was it was all right. It
was just it was kind of weird because it's You
know, it's it's not military, it's cops. So like
that's like you have these like terrorists. It's
almost like watching 24 attacking regular cops,
you know, the the terrorists attacking cops,
because that's pretty much what it was with trying
to get the money from the banks. And you can
drive, you can drive the motorcycle, you can
drive a helicopter, you can drive a cop car.
And now, don't get me wrong, it's like a Dodge
Charter. So the fucker moves. And it was nice.
And I plowed through like other. cars, blockades,
I hit some some poles and blew right through
them, but another cop car, and it does damage
the car, but I just I didn't like it. I uninstalled
it. See, that's one problem with this new Battlefield
game is you said it right there. It's like terrorists
versus cops or cops versus terrorists. When I
think of a Battlefield game, I think of like
1942 or Battlefield Vietnam or something that
isn't. We have Battlefield 4 out right now, and
that's more modern. Right, but that's what I'm
saying. When I think of the Battlefield franchise,
I think of 1942 like Vietnam. They're reenacting
actual wars or maps from actual wars that we
have had in our history as a country here in
the U .S. you know so that's what I expect from
a battlefield game I don't expect battlefield
hardline to be spy versus spy or you know cops
versus terrorists like if it's cops versus terrorists
or if it's the military versus terrorists go
have it set in Iraq don't have it set in LA or
wherever I don't I honestly don't know where
it's set I I've only seen the trailer to the
game and what I saw I just didn't really care
for Yeah So and and that's kind of where I get
my whole reference that I it's Grand Theft Auto
like I'm not saying it is Grand Theft Auto or
Battlefield is copying Grand Theft Auto, but
just the fact that it's Not in this war -torn
Environment where it's in a just a major city
that that to me screams battlefield or modern
warfare or Whatever other game you want want
to call it. It's not the battlefield franchise
that I know. And at the same time, I'm probably
not going to play it because I don't have a system
right now. I have a computer. I mean, hell, it
takes two, three years for a PC port to ever
happen on any game. So, you know, it's not like
I'm, you know, crying over spilt milk here. I'm
like so upset about it not being a traditional
war game that it's going to make me go out and
do something stupid. But at the same time, I
don't know. What else, what else, what else,
what else? I'm trying to think. BotCon was this
past weekend. I did watch majority of, I actually
went back after it was not live anymore and I
watched the three videos that Shout Factory put
out, 30 years of Transformers in three days.
What they basically did was Brian Ward was on
the floor at Shout Factory at Botcom for Shout
Factory. He had interviews with David Kay, he
had interviews with Susan Blue, talked to a bunch
of the con cosplayers and other con attendees.
My friend Mariah Baby, she was on one of the
ATTFs talking about cosplay or something, Transformers
Cosplayers. She was on one of the episodes before.
She was actually in the video... So that was
pretty cool. And throughout this, in between
what Shout Factory did was they showed episodes
and bonus features from all of their Transformers,
DVD... content that they've released so far.
So they showed several G1 episodes, they showed
several Beast Wars episodes, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera. So it was a really cool little fun
online event to kind of, you know, for those
of us that don't go to BotCon or can't go to
BotCon, it was kind of a nice thing that Shout
Factory did doing that. I thought that was pretty
cool. Yep. Other than that, I think that's about
it for this week. Yeah, I think so too. I got
a new cell phone this week or this past week,
but Sprinting sprinting sprinting to no service.
Um, yes exactly Yeah, I got AT &T. I got the
galaxy s5. It's actually quite nice And because
I'm trading in my HTC Evo 4G LTE phones on Amazon,
both of them, my wife's and mine, because we
both get the same phone every time, I'm buying
my Batman animated series $35 phone case. I was
trying to find one. She's like, oh, just get
a Batman one. I'm like, you can't just get a
Batman one. It has to be my Batman. See I would
want It's the Kevin Conroy Batman. It cannot
be the Christian Bale Batman. That's not what
I was gonna say If they didn't have a Kevin Conroy
Batman, I would want to him again us or I would
want Oh Nightwing so yeah So I get to go review
transformers wind blade after this yay No, it's
a good book so comic But yeah, I think that about
