Hello and welcome to altered geek unleashed I'm

your host Steve Megatron Phillips, and joining

me this week on... Jeff Jones Mike! Mike the

Birdman Dodd! Yes, it's the first episode of

2016. Yep. Exciting shit ahead! Where's the boat?

Same stuff, different year. Maybe. What year

is it? 6102. 2017! It's the one, it's the one

where all the superhero movies and the remakes

and the sequels come out. Can they pack any more

superhero movies into this year? Probably. Don't

tempt them. Don't tempt them. Someday it might

be my superhero movie so we'll see. As long as

they're all quality flicks, I don't got a problem

with it if they suck though. We're looking at

you Suicide Squad. Yeah, because you know what,

Marvel's still batting a thousand, all things

considered. DC, Marvel's still batting a thousand,

all things considered. DC, Marvel's still batting

a thousand, all things considered. DC, Marvel's

still batting a thousand, all things considered.

could give two shits on Sherlock. That wasn't

the question that I asked. Me? That's his answer.

He could give two shits less about Sherlock.

Didn't we just have this discussion off there?

You can't just let me tell you've seen it. Yeah,

I didn't say the show was crap. Okay, fair enough,

fair enough. I'll give you that. by and all i

was saying off there was i read something somewhere

where someone said all of they did was remake

that fourth episode which is that was something

that i don't think i really don't know that was

something i read that not something i formed

an opinion on that was something i really don't

mind since the big elephants other out of the

back here it's this go down our comments of the

force awakens since now it is the number one

film of all time that's Which is glorious to

say that Titanic has been dethroned Avatar has

been dethroned, which although only in the u

.s. Not the worldwide yet yet. Yes Also, the

force awakens did it in just a little under three

weeks whereas Avatar took something like 72 days

You know what would have been really impressive

and an amazing call back to the Millennium Falcon?

If The Force Awakens was able to do it in 12

days, like 12 parsecs. Well, it broke domestic

records within 12. In fact, I know it had the

biggest single day opening, biggest weekend.

Yeah, like it smashed records. Like it'll be

the biggest movie definitely by the end of the

year. Mm -hmm. I do not because there's nothing

coming up between now and March except except

dead tool that even has a chance to take it off

number one Yeah, I can't think of anything else

that even remotely would do something Honestly,

I don't even see the other superhero movies coming

close. I think I Think you might see Batman be

Superman do big box office, but it's not gonna

do obviously like Star Wars money, but I think

it'll do better than people might think, actually.

I've got a feeling. And I think Suicide Squad

is gonna surprise people, too. I really hope

so, actually. I'm sorry, I can't take the lead

singer of 30 Seconds to Mars seriously as an

actor. I just can't. Have you? Oh my god, see

the Dallas Buyers Club, dude. Jesus Christ, there

is so much good shit he's been in. Like that

guy... I think he got nominated for some kind

of an award for that. He's a chameleon. Yeah,

like that guy's good. Like he's really good.

Like hell, do you remember when when everybody

said fuck Heath Ledger for the Joker? Mr. 10

things I like hate about you. Don't judge a book

by its cover. You never know. Fired up. The only

thing I don't. I'm still stuck on the appearance,

but I don't have a problem necessarily with...

As long as he's cool in it, that's what I want.

Like, I want a menacing Joker. I think that'd

be really cool. Well, this one's gonna be, like,

just twisted. It'll be interesting to see. Yeah.

Um... But Star Wars... Yeah, that being said,

Star Wars... I went and saw it not the opening

weekend. I saw it the second weekend with my

brother. And it just happened to be in an empty

period of time like it was like a 250 showing

at the local one of the local theaters because

there's like three and the The one we went to

they had the real d3d. So we went saw it in there

There was hardly anybody in there when we sat

down and then it was like half full when we left

but That was the most spectacular Movie I've

seen in quite some time. It was probably the

best Would argue is probably the second best

or best movie I saw last year without a doubt

I was first in my theater first showing Sometimes

feeling sometimes have having a wheelchair has

it's like benefits. I actually had the best seat

in the house. It was great Saw it in 3d as well.

I actually got the like special Star Wars 3d

glasses I got the first order stormtrooper ones

My god, those are tight on my head. Um But it

was so amazing, like the whole time, just sitting

there smiling. It's been a while since I've felt

a Star Wars movie or any property really touch

me like that before. I'm trying to think of anything

else. Maybe it's come close. Maybe Avengers the

first time that I saw it. But no, it was amazing.

In fact, Star Wars got me so big, it got me back

into collecting again. Like since the movies

came out, I got a first order TIE fighter. I

got Poe Dameron's X -Wing, I got a Captain Phasma

helmet, and I'm in talks with a prop company

right now to get a replica of the First Order

Stormtrooper helmet. It takes a lot for a property

for me to start collecting again, because I said

that I could never do it again. But I don't know,

Star Wars, The Force Awakens, if the property

was handed to the right guy to kickstart something

new. J .J. Abrams loved this property and that

movie was way funnier than it had any right to

be. But it was intelligent. Yeah! And that surprised

me. Like, man, this is really funny. And it's

not stupid. It wasn't out of place. It felt very,

very much in its own ecosystem still. And not

at one point during that movie was I looking

at my watch. Oh yeah, like that movie flew by.

And I was so disappointed when it ended. I knew

when it was going to end because, like, I'd researched

all the spoilers, I'd researched everything on

the film before going in, just because, and even

with knowing, and spoiler alert for anybody that

hasn't seen it, although if you haven't... You've

had almost a month now, sorry. Yeah. When Han

Solo gets killed by Kylo Ren, I, even though

I had already watched the clip, Four days before

that online because it get leaked I Still the

emotions built up watching it all in a complete

scene The only thing that bug me about that scene

is I was like Contractual obligation now I don't

have to do these anymore But at least the whole

time you could tell Harrison Ford was having

fun with it Like he can really just kind of cut

loose with the like character. Well, not only

did he cut loose, but he wasn't playing He wasn't

Harrison Ford playing Harrison Ford in a movie.

He turned back into Han Solo. Yeah, he turned

it back into Han Solo. And so to me, when he

jumped in there, even the shots where like Chewie

was kind of down and out, which we found out

later that they had a younger guy playing Chewie

during the action scenes because the other guy's

ill. So they had two guys playing Chewie for

this film. But the parts where Han Solo took

his crossbow were just hilarious. He's like,

let me see that. Because Chewie got shot, and

he's like, I like this. I like this. And then

later in the film, he takes it again. I think

my favorite Han Solo moment is where they're

outside of Starkiller base. He's like, and you're

cold? It was just. It was the inflection in his

voice, I'm thinking, man, if this is how Han

Solo goes out, I'm totally fine with it. I thought

it was kind of an almost douchey way that he

died, but... It'll be interesting to see how

it affects the future of the movies going forward,

how it affects the new kind of canon. One thing

I'm looking forward to is having them flesh out

Rey's character. Like I'm guessing she's Skywalker's

daughter. That's my guess. Well, I've seen different

rumors that she's either a lost twin She's Skywalker's

daughter or a Kenobi. A Kenobi would be really

interesting. That would actually be really really

cool. I would almost prefer that Because you

know, but it would make sense if it was Luke's

kid because he would want to get her off the

planet without Well another thing it could be

too because everything Because everything that's

now canon is Clone Wars and including Star Wars

Rebels. If she happened to be Kanan's kid or

Ezra's kid, that might be... Yeah, because they

are canon now. Yeah, so the possibility's there

and I think that's kind of amazing. I got sent

some books for The Force Awakens from DK Publishing

Canada. And it's kind of funny how much they

fill in, like, from the movie, and also, there

is stuff they even pick out out of the expanded

universe. I mean, there's an entry, for example,

on Kylo Ren's lightsaber, why it looks the way

it does. It's because the crystalline side of

it is cracked, and the crossguard is actually

bent. So the lightsaber doesn't essentially blow

up in Kylo Ren's hand. And it even makes reference

to Star Wars Knights of the Old... Republic.

Which means it's technically not canon, but it's

a heavy lean towards it. Which I think is absolutely

amazing. Like... The second this goes up for

pre -order, this movie is going to demolish home

Blu -ray sales. For like, at least five, six

years. Oh, I'm gonna buy them. Like, game one.

Like, honestly... I may even buy the different

editions. I really hope Disney isn't really douchey

and spreads around special features, which Paramount

has done in the past. But Disney, they're typically

pretty good. My guess is Best Buy will get the

Steel case. Target will get some kind of a case,

too. Amazon will have something and probably

Walmart will have something as well. But I'm

really looking forward to this, like. I have

seen the movie in a less than legal capacity

since then because internet is a wonderful thing

and I don't condone piracy kids. But, like, I'm

so looking forward to owning this in glorious

HD in 4K. This movie is like skeet skeet everywhere.

Yeah, I cannot wait to see this film. I want...

I want the HD. And to even address some of the

criticisms, I know Mike there was saying it's

just a rehash of four. And I would counter that

with this. That's what I read online that isn't

something - That's what you read. Well there

you go. It's something I read. What I'm gonna

say is, it's not wrong from a certain point of

view. Because if you look at it this way, the

Empire really doesn't think of many other really

good ideas. They seem to go with the whole super

weapon thing, and that's all they've really got

in their back pocket. So that's the only play

in the Imperial playbook, all things considered.

But I like what JJ did with it, and I'm honestly

surprised how much love and care went into it

to pay homage to the original series, but also

make it uniquely his own. I can't wait to see

Rogue One when that comes out in December, especially

because it might have more X -Wing type stuff

in it. You're supposed to have Vader. Oh my god,

like can you just imagine the dog fighting scenes

if you get like a 15 minute dog fight? Like seriously,

there is not a word to describe the excitement

that doesn't go into pornographic. That's how

excited I am for that because my god I love X

-Wings. Sorry guys, I'm just basking in the coolness,

which I bet you will see a trailer for Rogue

One probably in front of Civil War or something.

Or Comic Con, one or the other. I heard rumors

it's going to be around Civil War. That's what

I would figure, because that's Dizzy's Less Marvel's

big tent pole for the year outside of Rogue One,

because I think, actually, I'm pretty sure Civil

War is going to do amazing in this. this year

too like this is gonna be a really interesting

year for the box office because there is basically

like Mike said this is superhero sat saturation

this year we got Suicide Squad we got Ninja Turtles

we got Batman V Superman Civil War Deadpool Doctor

Strange I'm probably missing one or two other

ones in here I know Deadpool is super you know

high up on everybody's list, and don't get me

wrong, it's probably the third Ryan Reynolds

movie I'll actually enjoy, but it's just one

of those things where I'm worried about Deadpool,

because it's hitting in February. Movies that

hit in February tend to not do that well, regardless

of the fact that it's Deadpool. It's because

it's an R rating, because honestly... It's a

risk for them because R -rated movies typically

do not do very well. So it'll be, I think it'll

do definitely respectable numbers. I think it'll

definitely make it back its budget for sure and

probably enough to get a sequel for sure. I think

it'll be really well received but because it's

an R rating it's gonna hurt it in some ways.

You can't get it out to big audiences but still

it may surprise people. But yeah. What else we

got to talk about? Because we could wax poetic

about Star Wars for like hours, and I'm not...

Well, we've done that in the past. Well, how

many of you guys saw the Deadpool trailer that

came out? I did! The recent one that was after

Christmas. Fox has done an amazing job marketing

this movie. Like holy shit like the not only

graphically but also in the merchandise the Yeah,

like Mike's hard lemonade via Deadpool or something

like I've seen that on Facebook like a number

of times The 12 days of Deadpool with them intercutting

it with I think like basketball or something

Like it wouldn't surprise me if like WWE does

something with it well oh no no no no that's

the last thing we need I pull you can think about

it you can have him being the announcer yeah

like if you get Ryan Reynolds on Raw in the Deadpool

costume that would bring an entirely new segment

of fans because it worked with Stephen Amell

and Arrow Batiste is known for being Drax the

whole problem with the whole Stephen Amell thing

was Cody Rhodes's stardust is just god -awful.

Yeah, but it got people interested. He doesn't

the quality of the product doesn't matter as

long as people are buying That's what that did.

He locked up interest. Look at Transformers Look

at Transformers. It's complete not her garbage,

but people watch it. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I hate

that movie and I ruined Still can't believe they

got him to come back and do number five Well,

like, he's like... This made me laugh. He was

like, uh... Yeah, I'm doing Transformers 5, is

it? That's exactly how he said it. It says, seemingly

losing count. He says, I've taken out a lot of

work. And then, uh... It says that this will

be my last one, which is what he said after every

single one of them. Yeah, like, it's... You know

what? I think... The thing that bothers me about

bait... big involvement with the Transformers

franchise is because you look at what the comics

with IDW and Dreamwave even Marvel and all them

gave a depth to what is well to what essentially

are toys and in the in the movie it's completely

thrown out it's a throwaway line here and there

the action scenes are cool but you can't follow

any of it and The scripts are never very good,

which is terrible, like - It's because they have

terrible writers. They have absolutely no name

- Okay, sure. Curtsy and Ortsman aside, whatever.

Um... Those two aside, the other films, every

other film, it's had that Aaron Krueger idiot

on there. Who the hell is that guy? And then

on top of that, you have Bay, because he's the

director, obviously. You got him for final script

approval, and if he doesn't like it, if he doesn't

think something'll work, he'll go in there and

friggin' change it. Also, but at the same time,

if you made a movie that people like us would

appreciate, it wouldn't succeed. because you're

going to lose the casual audience. No, it's not

even about losing the casual audience. What it's

about for me, it's not even about someone like

us being put in charge. I want someone else's

vision, not necessarily a Transformers fan, and

I know I've said this before. I've said this

before, and I know it'll never happen. I want

somebody like Spielberg, just somebody completely

- Spielberg is involved. He is, but as a producer.

I mean, as a producer, come on. The producer

credit - He's an executive producer, which is

- He gives say too. He has a lot of say too.

You know who I'd like to see take on a Transformers

movie? Somebody who worked on a Fast and the

Furious franchise. Justin Lin. Oh my god, that

would be amazing. The guy knows how to do car

stuff. Yeah, he does. It could be really awesome.

He did it over Star Trek. Hell, J .J. Abrams

might even be an interesting choice, depending

on how much... He has probably no love for Transformers.

But we also don't know that, too. Just think

about it. My whole thing with the Transformers

is if they would design them like the IDW comics.

Like with the little tech aesthetics built into

the robots and still having their classic style.

I could get behind the aesthetics of them then

if they had one of the writers from the comics

that would be gravy but you know that never happens

I think my problem kind of like kind of what

you just said with with the aesthetics it's hard

to connect with them because they look so alien

you can't tell what expression they have on their

face outside of bumblebee or Optimus I can't

tell you what the fuck Megatron's thinking The

only other one that I'll say and defend on design

is Hound because it was John Goodman and he basically

had a robot beard. So you could kind of tell.

That one was interesting. Yeah, that'll give

you for sure. The big skepticism for me on Transformers

5 at this point is what transformation are they

going to use for that film? Because if they use

the quick fast change crap that they used in

4, it's going to suck. I hate that nanobot moving

bullcrap that they used in - Well, yeah, I'm

not talking - It's the new hot thing, everything

is nano this and I know someone's gonna get this

joke, nanomachines, son. Um, so yeah, I'm hopefully

- Transformers 5, take it to the extreme. It'll

be ridiculous, we're all gonna see it anyway,

but please don't - I won't see it in theaters.

I know that's a hope. I'm a sucker, day one.

Every time. You know what? Michael Bay is cocaine.

And I'm gonna be there to snort a line of Optimus

Prime's ass. Because I'm a whore. And I believe

in that. Moving on. Moving on. This makes terrible

stuff. Let's see, uh, right here is where we

should probably put a break. Actually, oh, oh,

I thought of something. And this is something

that came up this week. The Poetly Crang is in

Ninja Turtles 2. Yep. I saw that. Oh my god!

Have you seen the toy, the leaked toy shot? No!

You haven't? No! Put that shit in the chat! I

gotta see this! It looks like Krang's robotic

body from the classic Turtles from a more metallic...

Oh my god! I got friends at Plan Aids! I need

to make a phone call! I want one! Oh my god!

I'm totally calling someone tomorrow! So yeah,

I saw it and I was like, oh boy It's it's in

the catalog. It's like Designed gizmodo. Yeah

and collider. It's been all over the place. I'll

I'll drop the link They're also coming out with

a new technodrome And what a good time to have

friends of playmates I cannot wait to review

these The Krang's body looks like his his 80s

counterpart only with more like bulkier metal

pieces on the shoulders and the arms And then

it's got like giant bebop and rocksteady next

to him like looking like the movie And I saw

these earlier in the week and I was like Because

you know, we're never gonna get that that classic

Krang that's supposed to come out. Oh, that's

cool -looking I just saw the Technodrome. Now

my Xbox is freaking out, so let's go back to

the other one. The Technodrome, the nice part

about that is it looks very similar to the original

toy. Yeah. Only it's got like tentacles on the

inside, which is strange. Oh, that crane's body

does look actually kind of cool. It does look,

it looks similar to the old one. I'd like to

know what scale that figure is though. I'm guessing

it's... If you look at the Technodrome, he's

the same size as like Shredder and the Turtles.

Okay, so he's about that four to five inch scale.

And that's not bad. When Playmates does the right

sculpting and paint applications, their figures

can be phenomenal. And their movie figures, while

some of the gimmicky stuff did kind of suck,

but the basic assortment was really good. So

I'm actually expecting a lot of things on this.

Looking at that figure. I can see articulation

in the knees, the elbows, the ankles, definitely

the head, arms. Definitely not, they don't have

elbow, or not elbow, shoulder articulation is

just the straight up and down. But if you could

put ball joints on Krang, that would be ridiculously

cool. Well, maybe they'll make a bigger one.

My yeah, if the original yeah, if they could

make one in that scale, I mean actually Last

year before I had to I sold off some of my turtle

stuff because being poor sucks. Um, I Forgot

how big that figure was like it's stood about

three quarters as tall as the original Technodrome

and that figure still sells are pretty big money

right now. I know I've been looking for one because

like mine's like That's why I was hoping the

classics one would come out, because... They

might do it again, actually, depending. It's

possible. I really hope so, because I'd love

to get my hand on the classic, because this is

the point I've gotten in my collections. I'm

liquidating all the original toys, and this is

my reasoning. If I can get one that is fully

articulated and full detail and looks like the

original show, compared to that, you know crappy

toy that we got originally even though it holds

nostalgia for me for having had that toy I would

much rather get one that's fully detailed kind

of in the vein of like you know the masterpiece

prime or so and you know stuff like that you

know the classics line of turtles for instance

I mean like stuff like that is what draws me

now like as as the collector and the nostalgia

I would much rather get that than where they

re -released the old 80s turtles in their original

you know their original toys and then just slapped

a sticker on it saying 30 years, you know, whatever.

I won't buy them because I would much rather

get the classics one where it's fully detailed.

See, I wouldn't mind getting some of the original

80s stuff, especially if they were to re -release

the original technodrome and the sewer layer.

But play sets traditionally do not sell very

well and they're often shelf warmers. So I don't

know. I mean, I'm really hoping that the new

figures are amazing. I can't wait to see what

the new turtle van is going to look like, because

the last one was actually pretty cool. I think

it's going to look more like the party wagon

from the 80s. Which I think is really neat, especially

if they incorporate the play feature to have

the shooting sewer lids. I can actually see that

working remarkably well. I'm really excited for

this movie. Even from the first time I saw the

trailer I'm thinking you know what I've actually

got some faith in this one the first one they're

finding their footing it wasn't a terrible movie

just wasn't a great movie and I don't know this

one. It's got potential, but if it sucks. It'll

be a huge letdown Yeah, I I hated the original

like so that's The or not the original the the

one that we got last time so it was okay I called

it the second best one. We've got The one from

89 was the best, or 90, I mean. Then the remake,

and then I'd go Turtles 2, Turtles 3. Actually,

no, Wade, I put the 2007 one in there, too. Because

I recently watched that over the holidays, and

that wasn't bad, actually. I just didn't like

it the first time that I saw it. Yeah, I'm...

Like I said, I've gotten to the point where,

like, if it's not Show Anchor, I just don't want

nothing to do with it. But I... You know, with

the film, I'm excited for the second one. I have

high hopes. You know, you have Beavop Rocksteady,

a real shredder. You have Krang. The turtles

look more normal. There's a lot more going on.

You get Casey Jones. I mean, the amalgamation

of all the things that normally we would bitch

about in a superhero movie, of too many things

going on, is actually going to work in the favor

of this movie, I think. Yeah, especially... Especially...

if it has the right tone to it. And Turtles,

it exists in such a ridiculous reality, it doesn't

need to be hyper -realistic. It doesn't have

to be transformed, which tries to take itself

entirely too seriously. I mean, hell, it's right

there in the title, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It in and of itself is stupid. And I think they

realize that. So listen, this could be awesome

if we get crying. I would so love if they do

a third. Turtles movie, if you give me the Triceratons

and the Fugitoid, I will die a happy man. Or

Feral Trag or whatever the hell his name is.

Have you seen the fourth season of the 2012 cartoon?

I typically watch the seasons after they're over,

so I haven't seen any of the fourth yet. Well...

Mark Hamill. Yeah, yeah. Fugitoid shows up. Fugitoid

shows up in the fourth season, because the fourth

season... And that's David Tennant doing the

voice, isn't it? That's what I was going to say.

It's the Doctor doing the voice. That's really

smart casting, too. Yeah. You know, with Turtles,

I'm really looking forward to it. My only real

gripe from what we've seen so far... Well, it's

more of something I like and something I'm kind

of... anxious about as far as how they're gonna

play it. You notice in the trailers we never

hear Rocksteady's voice as he's the Rhino. We

only hear him grunting and whatever else. I like

that because I am sorry there ain't no way in

hell I can believe Rocksteady with an Irish friggin'

accent because it's shameless. Well, then again,

look at Daniel Craig. He can talk American. I

know, I know, but I'm just saying it... just

like i can see shameless as the human version

of rocksteady and that's fine but i kind of wish

they'd done if they did leave you like russian

version they did from the cartoon the two thousand

or they could have got cam clark and barry gordon

back for the voices of them i will say i'm actually

really have really want to see What they're gonna

do with, I think it's Tyler Perry playing Baxter

Stockman. Yeah. Cause that guy gets a lot of

shit, and sometimes he'll do something amazing.

Sometimes. Magda, fuck that. But you never know.

I've kind of... You mean Medea? Yeah, or Medea

and Magda. I'm hoping. I'm hoping here. Please

don't suck. Please let my faith not be misplaced.

Um... Yeah, like it's like I said like there's

so much to look forward to this year I mean movies

is gonna be fantastic video games is gonna be

even better this year like Steve for example

we get Mass Effect Andromeda this year I know

I can't wait. Oh my god get hyped for that Uncharted

4 comes out this year Thieves End which should

be really good What else Oh, one thing I'd love

to talk about, because this is insane. So Oculus

Rift got priced this past week, and I don't know

a whole shit ton about it, but I hear you, I

know it's $600 for the headset, and you have

to upgrade your computer to high hell to even

run this thing. I'm not sure how well this thing's

gonna do. Because... VR technology is cool, but

if you look at how the PlayStation 4 is going

to do it with Project Morpheus, or even the Xbox

One with, like, HoloLens, I think they've got

the right idea. But then again, it's not exactly

a, well, it's not exactly a secret. I'm not a

big fan of PC gaming to begin with, so maybe

that's why I'm not hyped about the Oculus Rift.

But $600 for what's essentially an add -on. To

your computer. So Steve, I know you're you're

the computer guy here. What do you think about

that? Yeah screwed good answer I don't have any

I don't I don't have any ambition to do any of

that VR crap I don't know what game I'd even

want in VR I know one they were talking about

for this and this one makes no sense to me They

wanted you rock band in Oculus Rift. I'm like,

what's the friggin point? Now, you put a good

flight game in Oculus Rift. Like, imagine a good

Star Wars flight simulator or a good lightsaber

game. That could be fun, but the motion technology

is still not there yet, because Kinect ain't

perfect. PlayStation Move is like holding a glowing

ice cream cone. I've never gotten that technology

right. So, I don't know. I love the idea of VR,

but all I can think about is that scene in Hackers.

Fischer Stevens. But then again, the people that

I've talked to that have tried Oculus Rift are

really impressed with it. So, it'll vastly depend

on what games are supported for, but $600, what

a steep entry point. But then again, then again,

that's just the entry point. I imagine those

numbers will get lower and lower as the year

moves on. My guess is... If it starts at $600,

I think it'll be down to $450 by probably Black

Friday. That's what I'm going to call right now

because I think they're going to want to move

units. And I think people will be more willing

to pay that as opposed to $600 because you can

get a good laptop for that price. Oh, yeah. And

even in Canada right now, because the Looney

is so weak right now, Like we're talking it could

be below It'll probably be below 70 cents in

the next couple of months in the next couple

of weeks So we're paying almost a dollar and

a half Right now so I don't know. It's it's one

of those things. I Want I want the technology

to be awesome, but don't at that price. Yeah

No, the only game I can think of that would be

really awesome with this is the That old Star

Wars Arcade game where you had this we had the

three missions you had oh, yeah, yeah, then huh?

Yes, yeah, then huff and an indoor that would

be amazing on this I would like you know what

game might work It's a game that came out year

before last 2014. It was called alien isolation

And it's the survival horror game obviously set

in the alien universe were literally, oh, sure,

you can shoot the alien, it's not going to die,

you can run from it and hide from it. But if

you had the right immersion with Oculus Rift

and a game like that, that could be phenomenal.

Because it would literally put you in the environment

with so with the right, if you had the right

surround sound setup, and if the goggles worked

with your head as you peered around, that could

be really, really freaking cool. Now, Obviously

if you could do 4D, but I don't think you're

gonna put yourself in a motion chair and spray

yourself with water and shit No You know what

the technology could be there in like maybe ten

years Have that kind of an entertainment experience.

I used to live in Niagara Falls when I went to

college like a million years ago and We used

to have this attraction on Clifton Hill which

is like the big kind of tourist area and it was

like this dinosaur adventure thing and it was

called presented to you in 4d and during certain

parts of the event they'd spray water in your

face your chair would shake you'd get fog or

something like that and i remember reading somewhere

like a couple years ago they figured out a way

how to replicate smells like like are are are

artificially So if you can bring that into the

gaming space or even into the entertainment space

as a whole, imagine a movie where you could smell

the exhaust from a car or the burn of jet fuel

or gun smoke from a gun or something. Imagine

how games are going to look like in 10 years.

Technology keeps going the way that it's going.

thing in in Niagara Falls there was something

similar at Walt Disney World about oh twenty

odd years ago or so it was called Honey We Shrunk

the Audience I remember! It was Honey I Shrunk

the Audience and it was the same similar kind

of ride you go in you sit down the seats start

moving you feel something under your feet supposed

to be the the mouse or whatever that got out

or whatever and at the end of it The dog sneezes

and you get sprayed with water Reminds me I remember

there being a bunch of really cool theme park

rides Like in like big big places like that now

did the transformers ride has that officially

come out yet? Cuz I know they're talking about

it. Yeah in California. Yeah Is it any good?

Like have I heard anything about it? Can ask

my buddy off the bottom is on Twitter Because

like sometimes the right movies get really cool

things like I remember there was the back to

the future ride When I went out to wall when

I went out to California like five six years

ago They were still doing the water world stunt

show at Universal Studios There was The King

Kong ride, but I think that's more part of the

Universal Studios tour thing. Transformers, there

was Star Trek The Experience, which I'm really

surprised they haven't revisited that. Like,

I'm really surprised. When I went to Las Vegas

two years ago, they had a CSI. It wasn't a ride,

but it was an experience. You had to solve a

crime. And that was pretty cool, actually. I'm

trying to think of other things that would work.

as a ride or an experience. Well, the big obvious

one, I know Disney's doing Star Wars Land in

like two or three years. They already have Star

Tours, I mean. Yeah, but they're gonna do like

an entire theme park that's nothing but Star

Wars stuff. Which is awesome. Which is my god,

I haven't taken my honeymoon yet and I've been

married for like five years, I wanna go there.

I, like, my god, can you imagine, like, cause

I know in... the Magic Kingdom, they're not allowed

to break character. So if you ask a stormtrooper

for directions, he's going to bark it at you.

That's going to be kind of awesome. Or if you

were into like a Wookie, he has to speak to you

in like Wookie or something. That's going to

be really, really cool. Just seeing all the crazy

things they're going to pull out. I also remember...

I think... I think this is in California or it's

in Japan. It's one or the other. I know, do radical

extremes. They're gonna have like a Nintendo

theme park too. So you can like visit the Mushroom

Kingdom with like Mario, Peach and Toadstool

and all that shit. Wow. I know in Japan they

have a Resident Evil experience where they actually

give you like airsoft guns or like paintball

guns and you can actually shoot zombies and stuff.

I'm surprised no one's done that with The Walking

Dead yet actually. Just saying. Actually, you

know, once again, sorry, I'm just waxing philosophical

here. Do you know how easy it would be to create

a really good Ghostbusters show? With lasers?

Like, you do it in groups of like, say, ten people

or something. Give them a proton path, which

is basically just like, a laser. It was basically

just like, a laser. Uh, tens or something. You

basically want laser tag with Ghostbusters, is

what you're saying. Oh my god, do you know how

much fun that would be? I'd pay 50 bucks for

10 minutes, I don't care. Wait, wait, wait, wait.

50 bucks for 10 minutes? Seriously? Imagine if

they had Bill Murray come out and give you the

safety demonstration. Or like race dance, like,

hey Ghostbusters, new franchisee. I'm here to

give you the the lowdown on your proton pack

so you don't blow your face off and they can

have the um or it can be like in memory of Dr.

Egon Spengler we present to you the school of

the paranormal or something like that they can

do so much fun stuff with this especially with

the renewed interest in the movie with it coming

out that's another movie I'm really looking forward

to too in July. Yeah, I mean, think about that.

Like, I'm surprised no one's done a Ghostbusters

experience. I'm sure it'll come out now once

the new movie comes out this year. Yeah, actually,

Paul Feig, the director of this, he released

pictures tonight or maybe it was as of this recording.

He did post from Mattel, and they saw the six

inch prototypes for the figures for the new movie.

They look really good I'm really really impressed

with them actually. Um, I really like um, I Can't

remember the woman's name. She's the girl with

the glasses in the movie. That's gonna drive

me nuts Because I should know this and I don't

Jeanine Pardon Jeanine. No, no from the new movie.

I can't think of the act She's on Saturday Night

Live. I can't think of her name Which one? She's

the one with the, she's the one with the kind

of punky sunglasses or whatever. Shut up, Mike.

I want to hear Dodd. Yeah, her figure looks really

good. Melissa McCarthy's figure looks really

good. That's probably the one I'm gonna go for

first, actually. Probably her and maybe the black

woman because I think she'll be the harder figure

to get. That's not a race thing. I just... I

find characters of minorities are always harder

to find at retail for whatever reason. Well,

like, I'm curious as far as its cast, because

we know that Hollywood likes to skimp on the

creation of female figures. Yeah, I mean, I really

hope these are not just, like, exclusive to just,

like, diamond select. I want to see these at,

like, Toys R Us or Walmart. I think this is kind

of forcing their hand that they kind of have

to, because the entire cast is female. Yeah,

I mean, I really hope they do something awesome.

I really hope they give us really good ghost

figures, too. And I think it's funny that Hasbro's

been kind of screwing the pooch. Like, you had

Star Wars and then Raze not in, like, any of

the packages that are groups. Yeah, which is

really weird. And it's funny because I've seen

this conversation on my Twitter and my Facebook

a bunch in the last week, and I've had people

both for... and against it because it ultimately

comes down to marketing people and the people

or or it's the retailer saying hey here's what

we want hasbro may not have any say in it so

yeah i mean it's really weird the fact that they

like i think it's a set for target it's like

um who is it it's um Kylo Ren, a first -order

stormtrooper, and a TIE pilot. I would have gotten

rid of the TIE pilot. Yeah, like, like, give

me Captain Phasma. I mean, really. Well, there

are Captain Phasma figures and stuff. They just

don't have Rey. Yeah, like, Rey, like, there

are Rey figures because there's a Rey in the

Black series. There's a Rey in the Black series,

3 .75 inch. And there's a Disney series exclusive,

which is the Titanium series. Um, but scalpers

have realized this. I mean, if you want to get

a black series figure for Ray, normally they

retail for about $22. The cheapest one I could

find tonight was about 60 bucks. And that sucks

because I honestly, this isn't a slam against

her as a character. Before seeing the movie,

I expected her and Finn to be peg warmers. I

expected the hot figures to be Kylo Ren. Obviously,

any of the troopers and Captain Phasma were going

to be the hot figures. But now people are worshipping

Poe and Finn, which I think is amazing, and Rey.

Actually, one figure that was released, it doesn't

come out until June, but the pre -order is up

now. Hot Toys has a phenomenal -looking Rey.

It looks like Daisy Ridley, like in the flesh.

That's awesome. Creepy. One thing that's kind

of bothering me is like the lack of like The

original trilogy characters that were actually

in the film Like the new toys for them. Yeah,

like I'm surprised. Yeah, I'm surprised. There's

no Luke like old Luke figure I'm thinking they're

gonna wait on that a little bit longer My guess

is maybe comic -con exclusive and it'll come

out probably around the fall at wide retail release

See I'd hate that but the only thing is is they're

gonna eventually come out with one at retail

just because they're gonna want to make money

Oh, yeah, I mean honestly if I were them What

I would do if Iris Hasbro, I would do an old

Luke in the six inch figure So the one that retails

for the black series. Yeah, so I do it for 22

bucks. I'd give them a cloth cape and That would

probably be about the only accessory I'd give

them and I'd give them both lightsabers both

blue and green And maybe pack them with a small

r2 and that's the comic -con exclusive He gets

r2 with him where as a retail you get Luke with

the green saber and the cloth cape That's what

I would do because if people would buy that in

a heartbeat Well funny you should say that I've

been scouring the internet trying to find out

if there's going to be a Luke figure of old Luke

Because I would like to get the one from Return

of the Jedi and get this one and then like have

them as a set on my geek wall. Yeah and I want

the the old Han Solo as well and then I'm kind

of Like general Leia, yeah I'm looking forward

to seeing more vehicles out of this because I

decided if I'm gonna click Star Wars for this

I'm only gonna gonna in the figures. I'm only

collecting troopers Maybe a main character like

a ray or a thin or something, but mostly vehicles.

I've got two of them right now and I'm really

surprised because some of the Some of the vehicles

I think kind of suck. They have a new first -order

snow speeder It sucks Um, and they have another

one where it's like rays a speeder thing from

the junk planet And it's essentially just, it's

a rectangle that shoots a missile. It kind of

sucks. Although the X -Wing for it is kind of

cool though, although I will say this, if you

bought the black one, which is Poe Dameron's

one, there's a known quality control issue with

it where if you buy it and your guns are warped,

which mine were, you actually have to call Hasbro

and they'll send you figures. Or they'll send

you... actual straightened out guns. That's funny.

And I know Walmart has an exclusive one which

is like the white X -wing which he saw in the

beginning of the movie. And that I think is gonna

sell well. I'm actually kind of surprised, I'm

really hoping they'll do something for like...

I'd like to see Kylo Ren's Star Destroyer, but

the last time I did a Star Destroyer toy was

in the 80s, and it really sucked. It was Darth

Vader's Star Destroyer, and it was more or less

a really tiny playset. That was the size of two

Kleenex boxes. That's funny. Yeah, it was kind

of weird. But maybe if I did the Imperial drop

shuttle, which we saw at the beginning of the

movie. But I think the last time I did a huge

shuttle toy... I think it retailed for 200 bucks

and it pegged warm for like years. And even the

new Falcon I've heard is not all that good from

this particular toy. My stepdad actually has

the Falcon from the 90s. That is golden! And

he has the the Adat Walker and the AT -ST and

the Vader TIE fighter as well as the X -wing

of Luke's like he's got all of those like And

various play sets and everything from the 90s

and Eventually those would not be mine Someday

yeah like From the 90s stuff. They actually have

really good like vehicles. I will say that actually

one of my favorite ones And I wish I bought it

when I saw it. Do you remember shadows of the

Empire? Yep, the YT 2400 basically. Yeah, you

like outrider from Dash Rendar. That toy I really

wish I'd bought because it was like 60 bucks

when it came out and I think now it retails for

like two, three hundred dollars. But that's in

box. So, um, but yeah, if you like add at Walker

from the nineties, my friend Shannon got one

at a garage sale this past year for like 10 bucks.

Now it's missing a couple of things, but you

can buy those easy enough on like eBay or like

there's like sites that like repro shit. Which

I'm it one thing I found out this past year Knowing

people with 3d printers is an amazing thing If

you're ever missing a joint from a toy, you can

figure that shit out. Just 3d print that shit

So optimus prime can walk again, but anyway Yeah,

I mean Star Wars toys are gonna be the hot thing

for the next couple years especially if the movie

quality stays consistent. Because one thing that

I would love to get you guys to pay, because

both you guys love toys, is even the Marvel movies,

they're super successful. You find the toys kind

of lacking. Like they're just not... For Marvel?

Yeah. I don't have any ambition to get any of

them, actually. The only Marvel toys that are

worth anything... that are actually worth displaying

in my eyes anymore at this point are the ones

that are so god damn expensive which is the hot

toys in the sideshow collectibles anything that

is the three and a quarter inch line or four

inch line or it's just like no they're army men

to me I could argue men I could argue that the

legend stuff is still pretty cool and it's at

a pretty good price point But yeah, obviously

if you want something good you get the sideshow

or the hot toys stuff. I remember when like Age

of Ultron came out last year, they had the shittiest

toys for that movie. Like the figures are like

two inches. Age of Ultron, well, while it was

a good movie, it wasn't as good as the first

Avengers. Well yeah, because it was the first

time, it was the second time we'd see it, so

it's like, it's the same thing yet again. Ultron

is a cool villain, but he's no Loki. And that's

the thing, that Loki had charm, James Spader

played an amazing Ultron, but the character just

wasn't there. You know what I mean? I just don't

think the plot was there, because the plot in

that movie, they essentially... I didn't start

enjoying the movie until Tony realized what the

hell he had to do in order to defeat Ultron.

and bring Jarvis back and obviously create Vision.

The first half of that movie is like, oh my god,

world ending, guess what? It's like, why don't

we just throw a Death Star at the thing or something?

I don't know. The first half of Age of Ultron

just didn't really sit with me too well. It's

a very uneven movie, and even in the merchandise

department, It felt very uneven too, because

I know one of the big things of last year, people

were like talking about this, or people are still

talking about it. It was very hard to find a

Black Widow figure for that movie. And same with

Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014. You couldn't

find a Gamora figure to save your life. That's

because no matter what toy company it is, female

figures do not sell. No, it's not that female

figures do not sell, and it's not that there's

no demand. It's the fact that the stores... intentionally

don't order them. In lieu of that, the stores

causing this prevent people from getting them

because then the companies decide, oh, they aren't

selling because they only ordered them one in

a case and then that's it. Yeah, because I remember

when Revenge of the Sith came out, figures that

were very hard to find were any of the female

figures with the lone exception. Sorry, the lone

exceptions being Padme and Mon Mothma. Mon Mothma

sucks, but you couldn't find an Isla Succula

figure to save your life. And you couldn't find,

even with the Star Wars Rebels stuff, I don't

know whether they've made a figure of the female

Boba Fett character. I can't think of her name

off the top of my head right now, but you know

who I mean. I don't know whether the... The bean,

that's it. Luke and Leia will almost always sell.

Leia always sells in the slave bikini outfit,

which take away from that what you will. Yeah.

Well, and Disney also basically put the kibosh

on that so that you won't... It's really such

that I actually really want to get the black

series slave Leia figure because she's got really

good articulation and the figure looks cool.

But there's been other female figures that are

cool, like there's Leia in her Bosch outfit,

Leia in her Endor Commando gear, there's Hoth

Leia, Cloud City Leia, White whatever. So it's

like there are really good female figures out

there and it sucks because actually there's a

post that I saw on Facebook and a person's like,

what do you mean there's no female figures? And

there's ones there for like Tomb Raider, those

ones there for the Walking Dead, like the Mario

stuff. Hell, amiibos are a really good example

of female figures. One of my favorite figures

from that line is Zero Suit Samus, which it's

an amazingly cool sculpt too. There's Princess

Toadstool, I think. I think Pauline got a figure

too, but I'm not 100 % sure. So, I don't know.

I think the representation's there, but I think

Steve, you pretty much hit it right on the head

there. Stores are afraid to order it, because

they don't want it sitting on the shelf and then

getting clearance for like 50 cents in like three

months. And I think they think it's gonna shell

form. The funny thing is, is they buy all these

obscure characters that nobody even knows who

the hell they are in the film. Oh yeah. Those

are your shell formers. Oh yeah, like once again,

to go back to Revenge of the Sith. I remember

my local Walmart had shit -tons of Mon Mothma,

Mas Amida, Nemoidian Guard, and Polis Masson

scientists or something. So, okay, you've got

the robot that delivers Padme's twins, a guard

that is on screen for all of a second and a half,

Mas Amida who hangs up behind Palpatine and has

one line, and Mon Mothma who shows up for a second

and has no lines. Why would you not stalk the

good characters? The only thing I can think of

from her is many bobbins died to bring us this

information. You know what? I don't even think

her character got a gun. I can't remember what.

I think she got like a microphone or something.

It was laying to the end of it. Have you guys

seen The It's Been Going Around and Going Around

all day today, all day yesterday, I think, too?

About how fans are launching the petition to

bring back Lucas for episode 9 What yeah? Why

he's he's already checked out. Yeah, okay Here's

my thing like this has been going on for like

since last night well as of this recording since

Since Wednesday night of this current week here

I've seen it and seen it and see it. Oh my god

fans launch petition to bring back George Lucas

to direct episode 9 He sold his shit. He's done.

He got paid Get somebody else in that damn directors

and for the life of me I don't understand why

JJ isn't directing all three of them. Honestly,

seriously don't get me wrong I'm more than willing

to give any other director a shot But I don't

get like JJ and me Who's directing episode eight?

I don't the same guy that's wrote that wrote

eight nine. Okay Oh, it's the guy from Jurassic

World, isn't it? Um, no, he did Looper. Okay.

And, no, the guy from Jurassic World, he's doing

the Boba Fett movie, isn't it? I think so. Or

he's doing Rogue One, or something like that,

I don't know. Um, either way, I mean, yeah, Lucas

sold his crap, and I don't know, I've seen so

many arguments on this, like, Lucas's, like,

where Lucas has - gone on record saying he doesn't

like The Force Awakens and all this crap? I think

he's bitter that people liked it more than his

stuff. In a way. That kinda makes me sad. According

to this, in August of last year, Colin Trevorrow

was announced as the director of episode 9. As

of June 20th of 2014, Rian or Ryan Johnson was

announced as writer and director of episode 8

now this guy has done stuff. Let's see here He's

done looper. It's the movie Yeah, yeah, looper

the Brothers Bloom brick. Yeah pretty much He

directed What let's see three episodes of Breaking

Bad as well well then it's in pretty good hands

that I'd say And if they got the guy from Jurassic

World to do the Boba Fett movie or the Han Solo

movie, it should all things be pretty cool too,

actually. Now hopefully these movies won't suck,

because that's the big thing. I think ultimately

if Rogue One sucks, I wonder what's going to

happen to the Han Solo and the Boba Fett movies.

The only thing I've seen about the Han Solo movie

is that it's... Someone's saying about where

it's gonna be set but it's I mean essentially

be set around ten years previous to A New Hope

That makes sense and that's a pretty good timeline

because that's He would have been kicked out

of the Imperial Academy at this point and he'd

be in the corporate sector I think so that's

a pretty good time to set the movie Mind you

I don't know what I I don't know if what I just

said is still canon anymore See, see, that's

the funny thing, you know, you've said this,

Steve has said this, everybody in the world has

said this, they've thrown out the old expanded

universe. Well, they're now trying to create

a new expanded universe because Marvel is doing

all, like, there was a, supposedly, this series

was supposed to tie events from the End of Jedi

going into Force Awakens. There was a fourish

miniseries that Marvel did called Shattered Empire,

Journey to the Force Awakens. And it kinda starts

off with Luke and Vader at the end of Jedi, and

then it introduces all these new characters,

and I didn't read past the third issue because

I got bored with it, but I really do think because

Disney now owns Marvel and Star Wars both, that

they're gonna basically have them team up and

create a brand new expanded universe. I wouldn't

mind if they took pieces from the old expanded

universe, like keep the really good stuff. Or

at least borrow elements from it kind of like

with like Kylo Ren's lightsaber And it makes

kind of tie into Knights of the Old Republic

too. Yeah I mean, I don't know. I really hope

that movie does well, so I think a Han Solo buddy

movie could be really cool Like more and it'll

be awesome to see a movie that doesn't involve

a lightsaber, and I know that's a weird thing

to say well vader is still going to be in it

but you know what i mean though just a movie

where a hero doesn't have a lightsaber this could

be something really interesting that's why i'm

really hoping the boba fett movie happens to

have like a crime movie for like an action thriller

but the han solo movie what i'd like to see out

of that is him and lando Young Han and young

Lando going around being being space pirates.

That would be awesome Oh my god, you know what

what would be awesome if you had that young Han

and young Lando and Put it basically have oceans

11, but in Star Wars Were they stealing from

Java is Java the villain here for crime syndicates

and they have like all these different specialists?

That could be really freaking awesome! We're

having like the Boba Fett movie be like... Commando

or something where it's just Boba Fett tearing

up like a crime syndicate to cat somebody or

fighting like IG -88 or something. I am sorry,

if you're gonna take a - if you're gonna make

a commando reference, there's no way in hell

Boba Fett could work in the commando scenario

because the commando scenario - Oh, he would

just kill everything! Well, he was - but he was

fighting to get his daughter back. I mean, the

- Boba Fett don't have - Well, we don't know

with - with - with the new continuity. Maybe

Boba Fett had a kid. Oh, god. I prefer to think

that he still is dead inside the Sarlacc's stomach.

I don't know, I like a lot of the Expanded Universe

stuff with Fett, but I'm like a Mandalorian slut,

so I really can't say much beyond that. See,

there's this podcast, you've called yourself

a whore and a slut, all in the span of an hour.

That's true, and I've sorted cocaine off the

price bumper. It's a terrible way to go. But

yeah, I mean, ultimately... Don't know like like

I've said before and I really mean this It's

an exciting time to be a movie fan because you

see they're taking so many risks with stuff Like

hell look at Jurassic World. They basically threw

Jurassic Park 2 & 3 like oh, yeah didn't happen

and Even with like Star Wars like I said, they

threw it the expanded universe was people have

known for like almost 30 years now and It's a

whole new continuity like everything's getting

Rebooted with varying degrees of success some

awesome some not so awesome really depressing

Someone said I don't know earlier this week.

Maybe it was last week either on Twitter or Facebook.

I can't remember where it was Someone said with

the now new trilogy coming The original movies

four five and six are now the prequels That's

true. It's depressing as hell You know what's

weird, though? I like how each trilogy now has

a very distinctive feel. Because I'm a prequel

apologist. I like the prequels. I even like number

two. I only apologize for Revenge. I ignore Phantom.

I love Revenge. I ignore Phantom and I just can't

stand Attack because of the fucking love story.

Oh god, that's so horrible. Yeah, if you could

trim some of the love story out of number two,

that's... It's not bad. It's got some pretty

cool stuff in it. I just think the problem is

with it. It was like half -baked. You know what

I mean? If that script had spent about six more

months being written and fine -tuned, maybe we

would have got something a little more awesome.

But I think they really underplayed how big a

part the clone army really played in it. And

they never made Count Dooku a credible threat.

Ultimately, they never should have killed Maul,

but what are you gonna do? That second movie

suffered tremendously because of the fact that

it was primarily all CGI. Yeah, and that's what

I like about Abrams. It's almost all practical.

Well, and so is Batman vs Superman. Yeah, I mean,

practical effects nine times out of ten will

almost always look better. I mean, hell, one

example that I love to do, you look at a zombie

movie. Versus the walking dead the walking dead

will always look better because nine times out

of ten. It's practical effects Yeah, there's

some CG stuff where you you know, you can't put

a machete through someone's head realistically

But you know you can do it in post to make it

look cool So yeah, I mean that's another thing

too we're seeing a lot more people go back to

practical effects now and Practical props and

everything like some of the stuff out of force

awakens I cannot wait to see what 501st does

with this stuff. I can't wait to see a 501st

flame trooper in there. Well, you know, the whole

bringing back practical effects thing, it's the

same thing as what happened in the, you know,

in the early 80s, throughout the whole decade

of the 80s, it was all practical effects for

a lot of stuff. And then in the 90s and the 2000s,

we ended up with CGI. Well, in the later half

of the 90s. right but what i'm saying is is that

in the eighties we also had three glasses and

those went out really fast and now they're coming

back many three d movies from the eighties outside

of friday the thirteenth part three charles the

revenge for what that does well one of them jobs

movies and all sorts of things that that was

back to you you know what i'm pretty sure that

the final one there was ninety one i believe

But what I'm saying is 3D was in back then and

then it went out for the longest time. Practical

effects were in back then and then we went to

CGI and now both 3D and practical effects are

coming back. I'm kind of glad people seem to

be moving away from 3D. I don't see very many

movies that take effective, take use of it just

right. Right. Or even with like CG effects. One

of my favorite movies that's very CG heavy was

the original Sin City. And another movie that

did it well, but it looks so fake, but so fake

that it's unique. Do you guys remember a movie?

It came out like, I want to say 2004. It was

called Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

That looked weird, but I really liked it because

it was weird looking. That entire movie, I'm

pretty sure, was shot on a sound stage. I can't

remember there being many practical sets for

that movie at all. But it looked so unique. That's

why I'm hoping more people, like I said, move

towards practical effect, if they can. I mean,

one movie series that never used a lot of CG,

and I'm very thankful for it, was the Aliens

movie, with the exception of three and four.

They didn't have a lot of guys in suits. It was

very much CG, especially for the dog runner alien.

Never I Don't know I just said that there's there's

some cool some really really cool shit happening

in Hollywood and I just hope they stay the course

and Take exciting risks with stuff and don't

be afraid to try something new and like like

like I think one of the biggest boldest moves

was when Star Wars wiped out EU to do their own

thing this None of us have any idea about it,

and for once, it's exciting for that. I like

the fact that I don't know shit about, oh, well,

if you read this book, this happens. I love that

idea. Anyway. Should we call the show now? Because

we've been yipping for, like, what now? Yeah.

Yeah, I was gonna bring up the fact that death

storms come into golf or to the flash and then

penguins dad. It's gonna be on See I'm looking

forward to the flash and King shark Because I

love the idea. It's just a big guy who's a shark

It's ridiculous and once it's a tomorrow's in

what like two weeks Yep, that's gonna be so cool.

I think I'm actually watching that show right

from the start You know there's gonna be an episode

called Dawn of Justice League? And then they're

gonna have the Suicide Squad trailer? Oh, that

reminds me too. Something that got cancelled

today is TNT... Teen Titans? Yeah, they're not

gonna do Teen Titans and I'm kind of okay with

that. Because it's not like you'd have the budget

to do it justice anyway. They don't need to...

They don't need to do it. Teen Titans does not

deserve a live -action movie right now at this

moment. Maybe in a couple years... I can't see

it being super successful because you... it would

be so special effects heavy the show would be

like okay here's our season four episodes we're

done now see you in a year yeah but you know

you look at um you look at television and superheroes

you know you know we said earlier that this year

is going to be filled with you know superhero

saturation not that that's a bad thing but you

look at tv now supergirls on monday flash is

on tuesday wednesday is arrow wednesday is arrow

and then thursday is legends So basically four

out of the seven days every week you have superhero

shows. And I think, and I want to say - Well,

no, Gotham too. Gotham and superhero are on the

same night. If we're talking comic book shows,

I know Preacher comes out at some point this

year. Jessica Jones just wrapped up, so Daredevil

season two starts in like March 18th, I'd say.

Well, that skull was awesome. Oh my god, I can't

believe I see John Bernthal as the punisher.

Holy shit. I still kind of, I mean, I'm not saying

anything against the guy, but I still kind of

wish they would have gone back to Thomas Jane,

but I'll go into this with an open mind. Yeah,

I think the thing is that Thomas Jane makes a

good movie punisher, John Bernthal will make

a good TV punisher because he's more brutal,

but I see Thomas Jane as... I don't know how

to describe it. I just see him as a more authoritative

punisher, not as brutal. You know what I mean?

Sort of like the difference between time and

HBO. I mean, he was pretty brutal in that movie,

but... Yeah, but it was PG -13. Now you're playing

with not so many rules, but... I'm actually very

surprised how violent the Marvel stuff is. Always

go after the with the the Thomas Jane Punisher.

I always watch the Extended cut yeah, the extended

cut is is really differently I do like the war

zone Punisher to raise Steven center. I think

that was his name Yeah, I liked it because he

was so over the top. It was so great. I Even

like Dolph Lundgren from a certain point of view

Um, but anyway, uh, yeah, like it's it's gonna

be a good time on TV too, which another show

I just got into over the holiday break here Just

got into Game of Thrones. I have literally watched

50 episodes in the past three weeks My god is

that show violent? I have no ambition to watch

it. Oh my god, Steve. Holy shit. I tried watching

it. I just didn't care for it. How far did you

get? I watched with her periodically as I was

entering the room. Yeah, that's the thing. That's

a show you gotta follow. Like, you can't not

pay attention to it. Well, I mean, just the whole

premise of it just bored the shit out of me.

See, that's what me and Blair thought, too. Like,

and this is just my defense of it, because Blair

hates fantasy, hates Lord of the Rings, thinks

it's fucking garbage. yet she got in the game

of thrones she's forcing me to watch it right

now a woman who hates swords and sorcery is forcing

me to watch game of thrones and i'm totally fine

with that that's the thing about game of thrones

it's it's i think the fact that it's fantasy

but it's serious it's not lord of the rings in

your face with the magic and the creatures it's

a lot about the political intrigue but i think

that's the the difference i like my shows to

be very very very very serious And that's where

Game of Thrones gets me like right now I'm just

I'm halfway through the fifth season and Just

seeing all the twists and turns that have happened

Like there's some care like I remember about

a week ago We watched the red wedding episode

which I'm not going to say much more than that

for those of you guys that haven't seen it I

Knew people were gonna die I didn't know that

many people were gonna die in that particularly

brutal fashion. And there's one point where this

guy called The Mountain kills this other dude.

I haven't seen kills like that outside of The

Walking Dead, and even that just gave it a run

for its money. But it's the story telling. There's

an actress on it. Have either of you seen The

Terminator, the Sarah Connor Chronicles? No.

Okay, have you seen 300? No, Jesus fucking Christ.

Okay, there's an actress on it named Lena Headley

and She played the Queen in 300. She was also

Sarah Connor in the Sarah Connor Chronicle. She

plays Queen Cersei on this show. I Wonder how

often she's been up for awards or Peter Dinklage

the guy who plays Tyron or Tyrion Lannister like

this this and He may be very small in stature,

but his presence would fill a stadium. Like,

how impressive this guy is. Like, I'm serious,

Steve. If you get a chance, give it another shot.

Watch four episodes. If it doesn't catch you,

walk. Because each season's only ten episodes.

If it doesn't get you by four episodes, it's

probably not gonna get you. I also tried watching,

like, walking... the walking dead of people that

are in it and I couldn't get past that either,

so. I don't know. I guess that's, I don't know,

I'm very open to what I'll watch on TV with like

that sort of thing. See, I'm very closed. I'll

watch certain things and then I, there's certain

things I'll watch and certain things I won't

and then if it's kind of in there I just am like,

no. I don't like to turn myself off of experiences

I'm always very open to that sort of thing that's

why I'm really glad I gave Game of Thrones a

chance because I didn't expect it to take me

like it did and now I don't know what to fill

that void with because the fifth season or the

sixth season does come out until April so now

I need to find something that's equally violent

and intense now all I can think of is Malcolm

McDowell in the in the Amazon fire promotion.

You've fallen into a show hole. It's so true.

There's another show I want to watch. It's called

Black Sails. I've heard it's like Assassin's

Creed Pirates. So I'm like, okay, I'm interested.

That seems kind of cool. Because as much as I

love superhero shows, I like those are the shows

I like to binge watch. I don't like waiting week

to week with those ones. With the exception of

Agents of S .H .I .E .L .D. because that's the

show I'm really... Committed to like I'm mr.

Hardcore MCU Yeah with the flash I like to be

able to sit down and watch three or four episodes

in a row I Don't like waiting week to week, and

I know that sounds really weird It works for

certain people yeah and walking dead that's a

show waiting week to week sucks because you want

to know what the hell happened I think I think

it comes back in like a month or something like

that actually You guys might know this. When

does Common Book Men come back? It seems like

it didn't have a very long season this year.

I haven't watched Common Book Men since the third

season. I stopped. I just... I just couldn't

watch it anymore. Yeah, as much as I want to

say I'm a fan of it, the last season and a half

has been really, really weak. Yeah, I just couldn't

watch it anymore. I got really tired of all...

Just some of the... Stupid crap they would do.

Yeah, I mean, I want to know more about the store

and the stuff as opposed to here's stupid antics

number five. Yeah, let's go. I don't even remember

what season this was, but I know it wasn't season

one. I know that much. Ming's like, oh, let's

go to the auction house. And I'm like, ugh. Oh,

and is that when they try to buy the guy's collection

back for him or something? Something like that,

I don't remember. I think that was the season

two finale, I think. I don't know, they were

at some auction house waiting for some toy auction

or something, and I'm like, you people run a

comic book store, I wanna see... When Comic Book

Men first came out, the first thing I thought

of was, it's Kevin Smith's version of Pawn Stars,

is essentially what it is. And yeah, you're right.

I want to see more about the stash. I want to

see more about that than I want to see them go

out on stupid adventures. See, I'm okay as long

as the adventures have a good payoff. Like at

the auction house, if they were to get, say,

a great garlouin package for like 150 bucks,

that toy worked, I think it's worth something

like six, seven hundred dollars. It's a monster

toy from the 60s. Or, hey, here's a bunch of

Remco monsters or something. That's interesting

to me. Like, if you could find a match between

Jordan Hembrow's The Toy Hunter and comic book

men beats Pawn Stars, I think I might be more

into it. But it just seems like the last couple

seasons have been really, really, really weak.

Toy Hunter was so stu - Okay. Now the problem

with Toy Hunter is I don't like - It's factually

inaccurate. I don't know - Some of his stuff

like some of this stuff is really well researched.

I don't like how he offered people peanuts for

prototypes Yeah, he hey, I've got all these box

things. Here's $25 like no. Yeah, he's essentially

ripping people off Thank God one show never really

get off the ground. There was a show when toy

hunter first launched over the second show I

forget where it was. I think it was A &E or so,

it was somewhere. No, it was the opposite channel

like TLC and then there was the travel channel

each one had their own. Right, but I think the

one I'm talking about happened on A &E first

and then it moved somewhere else and then it

failed. It was called Collection Intervention.

Yeah, I remember that. And then they had what?

It started in Canada. They had a couple of Transformer

guys on it. Yeah, they did. Is that the guy that

had the Golden Optimus Prime from Japan or something?

I think so. I remember one Transformers episode,

this guy had like 30 different tryptacons, 30,

not not different, 30, he had basically multiples

of the same toy, and over and over and over again,

and the reason why he said that he wanted to

sell him or get rid of him was because he had

a kid on the way or whatever else, but just,

that whole show, that whole show's premise was

god awful. See, I like... When it what it means

something like if a guy's selling off his stuff

to pay off medical bills or it means something

Yeah, I have 30 tryptacons. Why do you have 30

tryptacons? Yeah, exactly wrong with you Exactly

Like I mean and even with a comic book man You'd

see some really interesting stuff come through

the door like or there was one episode of the

toy hunter I really enjoyed where they had a

prototype me go greatest American hero and I

actually had the guy that played the greatest

American hero he wanted to buy it or I think

CM Punk bought something or maybe it was some

guy from UFC or something on like the rocket

firing Boba effect for like $20 ,000 yeah no

he jordan found that or he got it or somewhere

else and then he went to the convention and someone

else came up and spent the seventeen thousand

or whatever i was so in state i mean it's not

a buyer the fact that he could convince you like

you have all these rare things you want to sell

it for twenty five bucks you know if you get

my tricks you yeah much the only Episode of toy

hunter that I really remember because it was

just so friggin weird and out there was the ice

ice baby episode where actually vanilla ice was

on the show because he wanted all the Ninja Turtles

2 stuff that he could find. It's really weird

because you know what's funny? I think I could

find more stuff than Jordan Hamburow could, but

then again I use eBay. But you know people, you

can literally find that in the show. that's the

thing about that show in the beginning of it

like the first season i think it was even the

first episode his goal was each episode to get

enough stuff to go to a convention and you know

sell the study that was kind of the goal and

i haven't really why i'd just keep honestly i

am so far out of the toy collecting toy enjoyment

while i'm so far out of the toy department at

this point it's not even funny I just... I only

keep up with certain lines, really, but I don't

collect, I just keep my world in the toy... new,

so to speak. Yeah, I would rather see a cool

comic cover or something than a toy. I will say

that, for the most part, I jump towards, like,

when I'm at a convention, I glance at the toys,

don't get me wrong, and then I sit there and

say, I wish I had money to buy these, and then

I walk past them and I go right to the art tables

because... uh... i think it's something that

looks like what i was something i would want

and i could put it in a frame for my wall and

then was it not to get a lot of space but it's

also something i can look at and enjoy at the

same capacity i want a toy albeit not using all

that space for a month or a month yeah i don't

like buying toys at conventions because i know

the price is marked up yeah it's not necessarily

rare shit and i have to not be able to find it

on ebay for more than twenty five percent markup

I've gone to like when I went to BotCon, they

were realistically priced on everything. Like,

it's hard to find. What's that? I said, that's

impressive. I find certain communities will take

care of their own, which is what happened at

this. Like you might find a couple of dollar

markup, but there was nothing like you could

go to the next booth and it would be like a three

dollar difference. I mean, it was just it was

realistic on everything that you wanted to get.

So I mentioned. Oh, I mentioned earlier I'd rather

have a cool comic cover than actually deal with

collecting toys. Coming up in March, IDW is going

to do this thing called Deviations, and there's

going to be a Transformers issue where one of

the... This is a series of one -shots. The sub

-cover for one of them is... What if Optimus

Prime never died in 86? And the cover is Hot

Rod and Cup. and Megatron and Optimus in the

background, and it's Hot Rod saying, I've got

to help Prime, and it's Cup saying, stay away,

Lad, that's Prime's fight, and if you try to

interfere, I'll stop you. One shall stand, one

shall fall. Optimus, Prime, and Megatron, duel

to the death, and only one will survive. I don't

have the solicitation up in front of me, but

the cover is basically the animated movie designs,

and it is so awesome. That's pretty cool. I'd

actually get it. Yeah, that's something I would

actually, you know, have versus, you know, like

a Masterpiece Rodimus or anything like that.

I don't know. I like toys, but then again, I

like to have something that I could, quote unquote,

play with. I mean, you want something tangible.

Yeah, exactly. I mean, like this past week, for

example, I was I was talking to Blair. I think

I like my TIE fighter more than my X -Wing toy.

And I never thought I'd say that, but there's

something about how well the TIE Fire displays

compared to the X -Wing. And I don't know, it's

just something about having a toy that's in scale

for me that I really like. That's what I loved

about the Masterpiece toys is I loved how detailed

and how scaled up they were, as opposed to like

the little three and three quarter inch figures.

Like that's one thing about Star Wars, unless

they were the super articulated versions. We

suck, and it sucks, because the new Star Wars

Black series, which are the 3 .75 inches, Asbro

sent me a couple samples of those, and the worst

one I got was a Princess Leia as Bosh, and it's

so shitty because I was hauling out some of my

Star Wars toys because I wanted to decorate my

new shelves that I got, and I got all my Revenge

of the Sith toys out. And I got a VOTC, which

is the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection, Scout

Trooper. That thing has 20 points of articulation,

Leia has maybe five. And I'm thinking, Jesus

Christ, man, what the fuck happened? But yeah,

there's just, I don't know, there's something

about big toys I love, but I could never collect

the really huge ones. Like, I know right now,

if you go to Target or Walmart, You can get a

giant storm trooper for 150 bucks. Jesus. What

the hell am I going to do with a four foot storm

trooper? Oh, I love those old things, Warren.

This will be the last thing I bring up. I love

those old things. You ever go into Sharper Image?

I remember this clear as day, 2002, going to

Sharper Image. Life -sized version of Tobey Maguire's

Spider -Man. Who the hell would want that? I

don't know. It depends. What in the pose like?

No, it was a traditional Spidey stand kind of

pose, but it was like, I just don't get the whole

giant oversized statue things for your one -bedroom

apartment, three -bedroom house, whatever. I

just, like... They're the coolest ones I saw,

but it was eight grand. Was a turn eater exoskeleton,

but the eyes lit up, which I think was kind of

cool, but I'm thinking $8 ,000. At least you

get the gun. Yeah, and the whole thing with me

and toys, you know, and Steve knows this, I started

a toy podcast on the network when we first started

and I was really, you know, I had a whole huge

toy collection. I had my original Castle Grayskull

from 35 some odd years ago now. I had all the

He -Man classic toys from the current Mattel

line or whatever else, and just something in

my brain just snapped, and I just, I'm like,

I just don't care about this stuff anymore. I

don't care about it anymore. I just about had

to sell off my stuff. I mean, and I did too.

I had financial things come up and I had to sell

off my stuff as well, but I never, like after

I had to sell all my toys off, I never. I jumped

into comics. I never went back and never had

the itch to get my toys back. I don't know. I

buy comics now, but I don't read them as much

as I should. That's why I quit collecting them,

is because I don't actually go back into them.

I do it digitally, so it's so much easier for

me. Yeah, because it's like hard drive space,

at which point, who cares? Well, it's Comicsology's

website space, but yeah. Yeah, exactly. I don't

know. I'm a very tangible person. I love things.

And I also love the thrill of restoring something.

One of the things I was the most proud of was

restoring my original Ghostbusters firehouse.

I got that thing as a shell and I rebuilt it

everything. The only thing I was missing was

the fire pole and one part of the containment

unit. I had the sign, which is rare as shit.

I had the ghost for the containment unit. I had

the doors. I had, I even got reproduction stickers

and I redid everything. I took like a little

sanding thing and I took off all the scratches

that were in the plastic. This thing looked like

it came off the assembly line back in 1986. Cat

was fun. When it comes to collecting tangible

things at this point for me, it's either like

artist prints or t -shirts from ripped apparel,

honestly. That's really where my collecting is

these days. If I had the money, I would move

more in the prop replicas because one of the

companies I worked with this past year was a

company called buycostumes .com. Fantastic website,

by the way. And they sent me a stormtrooper collector

helmet, which is done by rubies and I got the

Darth Vader supreme edition And I'm thinking

man. I really would love to get like the master

replicas collector blasters or the original lightsabers

They had because I've owned a master replicas

obi -wan Kenobi revenge of the synthsaber I sold

that three years ago for like $800 I paid 500

for when it first came out And I just remember,

if I had to collect that, it would be that. I

would give up toys for props. But toys I can

play with. If I drop a lightsaber and it breaks,

um, shit. If I drop Bon Solo, I can fix him.

See, that's the thing. You want to play with

your toys. You want to relive your... And don't

get me wrong, reliving your childhood is great.

We all want to relive our childhoods. That's

fine, but... You either want to collect to display

or you want to collect to play and you got to

choose between those two Because I've done both

when I was collecting Star Wars back in 2005

I Was a guy who was mint on card I would only

buy certain toys to take out of the package and

even then I would buy two on the play and one

to display You have no idea how expensive this

hobby got See I I always got just one and I would

I would open it and then But I kept even when

I played with my toys when I was younger I or

displayed them or transformed them or whatever.

I never They never got any damage to them. So

like I didn't really have to worry about anything

I've I've gotten to the point now where I'm actually

going through this mass purge of like a lot of

stuff I don't look at or don't use or have anywhere

to put or if it's not If it's something that

I anticipate that I'm going to end up with later

as, like, inheritance, I'm getting rid of those

figures, too, because it's just no point in having

two. Even though one's open and one's in the

box, I'm getting rid of stuff rather than have

two or rather than have it in general for the

time being. Yeah. I will say, though, if the

right figures are out right now... I have been

attempting to try and get my hands on whatever

it is. For instance, there's the Generations

Transformers where they had a show accurate brand

new sculpt of Rattrap, Dinobot, Waspinator, and

Rhinox. I have all of them but Rhinox at this

point. And then there's the Combiner Wars Leader

Megatron Generation 1. Didn't put much stock

into it earlier in the year, but unfortunately

that figure is so ungodly difficult to find unless

you go through like BBTS or something And it's

it's and it's not even difficult to find it's

expensive maybe for 50 bucks I just got it But

anyways, it's it's it's showing accurate as possible

with Him being a tank So like everywhere like

BBTS, it's it's 50 which was you know, it's decent

Target Kmart and Toys R Us had it on had it for

$42 but they're all out of stock and it doesn't

anticipate them getting new new shipments and

Anywhere else you look it's like 80 to 150. Yep,

because people know what they have Well, and

then they it's in funny thing is is there's a

repaint remold slightly. There's Armada Megatron,

which is the same figure. It's just a different

head sculpt and different paint and It sells

for $38 because nobody wants it and Now mind

you there's also like, you know $35 $35 to $40

upgrade kit to the combiner wars leader Megatron

to make him look Because there's like some oddities

on the feet and the shoulders that look a little

off like they're missing something. You buy these

add -on kits and they look funky as hell in tank

mode but if you just leave it on in robot mode

it will stand in comparison to Masterpiece MP01

Optimus Prime compared to With without the add

-on kit. He's he's actually a head shorter than

mp10 optimus prime which is shorter than mp01

So like it it puts him on par with the one I

have which is the ultimate edition of prime,

right? The best transformers I ever owned and

I feel sad that I sold this but I got a wicked

price for Hasbro sent me the metroplex from comic

-con a couple years ago That thing I think was

almost three feet tall. Yep, and one of the coolest

toys I've ever owned But Jesus Christ, it took

me five hours with users to do the stickers But

anyway, I tried to end this show a half hour

ago, maybe we should go yeah, so Yeah, next week

I plan to have I'm gonna have us kind of talk

about a couple different things but one of them

we're attempting to redo our office right now

and we're gonna build a custom desk and I'll

probably put like some kind of a screenshot of

it next week. So like has anybody undertook something

like that? What kind of ideas do you guys have

or stuff like that? Also what are some things

that you've had in your collection in the past

that you would like to either reclaim or get

something in like a quote -unquote masterpiece

edition, whatever it may be. So just little things

to throw out there. All right, good times. So

anything you guys want to promote before we go?

Yes, so the podcast that I work with, Terrible

Warriors, we're going to be releasing a new episode,

a new campaign. Our short form campaign is furry

road which is after the bomb which is basically

it's mutants and mad max so that should be pretty

pretty kick -ass and we're also doing my star

wars embers of the jedi long -form campaign so

that'll be a new episode coming up fairly soon

we record the next episode on sunday um there

is a new boss role coming out hopefully i'm hoping

next week i'm going to record one over the weekend

me and jamie are recording a new prototype Talking

about 2016 coming up in gaming making very early

e3 predictions What we're gonna see so we'll

see how many we get right in like six months

and Finally, I'm back on twig doing nerd news

as of next Friday, but I start back on Monday

So looking forward to being back doing shows.

And of course, I love doing things here on altered

key. So Always good stuff coming up from us here

at twig. Oh and I'm back on Video Game Sophistry

on AM640, which airs Sunday nights at 7 to 8

p .m. You can find that on am640toronto .com

or Edge 102 .1 on the course radio network. All

righty. For me, let's see, Showtime Synergy,

which is our gem review show. We're going to

be doing our truly outrageous top 30 countdown.

We are going to be interviewing the singing voice

of Jim Britta Phillips. We are going to also

be reviewing the film. And we've got some comic

stuff coming up for the Jim show. The pull bag,

we've got Boom Studios is launching Mighty Morphin

Power Rangers number zero next week, so we'll

have a review of that. JT and I are going to

do Batmite Issues 1 -6, the miniseries that DC

did last year with Batmite. Geek cast radio somewhere

between now and our seventh year anniversary

June 1st. We're going to have nine episodes That

are going to be top nines of a certain decade.

So that'll be coming We've got the third annual

awards going on Steve you want to talk about

that? Yeah, this is a continuation obviously

the third year going the Categories are all there.

All you have to do is submit your submission

for each category, and it will go into a master

list. The important dates, which are also on

the web page. There's a banner at the top of

the website. January 25th is the cutoff for the

open entry. January 27th, the voting round commences.

February 17th, the voting will end on that, and

the GCRN Awards podcast will be on February 26th.

Again, all of that is on the website there. So,

yeah, just fill it out. It's got TV, film, animation,

comics, games, and then, of course, GeekCast

Radio Network and other podcasts that are non

-GCRN. So, yeah. Fun times. Guess you can find

me on social media at Facebook .com slash Birdman

Dodd, Instagram and Twitter at Birdman Dodd.

hour. And you can get me on social media at SCP21

and Blanchard. TFC on mic. So until next time,
