About this Episode
You're tuned in to Steve Megatron on Altered
Geek Unlimited Hello and welcome to Altered Geek
Unlimited. I'm your host Steve Megatron Phillips.
I will be flying solo again this week. Unfortunately,
we were supposed to do an E3 episode. today and
what happened was is I was going to have Birdman
Dad on to talk about it and he was ill so I opted
not to do that stuff this week so I'm going to
hold off on that I'll probably do a double shot
episode next week having a bit of news and then
some of the like As far as like e3 news, and
then I'll have some topical stuff to Have fun
with So yeah I've been as everybody knows been
playing like live streams where I've been doing
like Battlefield 4 and I'm gonna do some other
games too. I just I haven't gotten around to
it yet I I'm wondering like as far as like these
games are concerned like because I know some
people play for like two hours or they play for
an hour or if they play for like five to ten
minutes like what's an acceptable like streaming
length for you like when you're when you're watching
somebody play a game or if you're You're watching
a video podcast of sorts like what's an acceptable
length of something to watch like I find myself
like more attuned to the If it's a gameplay thing,
I might watch like 15 minutes. I know I've streamed
like 30 or 45 minutes depending just because
it's easier. I play and then I just let it record
while I'm doing it and then I forget to press
the button to stop it. Or sometimes the match
literally lasts that long. But if it's like a
video podcast, I typically go like from the 3
to like 10 minute mark and I won't go beyond
it just because it gets too long. So yeah, I'm
kind of curious to hear what you guys have to
say on that topic. Side note, I just got a new
vehicle and I'm pretty geeked about it. It's
a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox. I replaced my 2005
Chevrolet Aveo. And I gotta say, I'm pretty pumped
about it. I really love the vehicle. It's an
SUV, so it's kind of a big bump up. It's nice.
Like a lot of the features that are in there,
like the technical side of things, like I figured
out how the Bluetooth works and you sync your
phone and you can make a call or you can do like
media or do like stitch or a Pandora from your
phone. So that's really neat. It will read your
text messages too, which is another cool feature.
So like yeah, I've been having fun messing with
that stuff and Just got it yesterday Really enjoying
it and then as far as my schooling stuff's concerned
like I've been doing that We're about a week
away from being done with the semester and then
I go back in August or August 27th or something
So I've been having fun with that for the most
part I got a couple of assignments left to do
but it won't take me that long But um yeah, so
I mean a lot of stuff's been going on lately.
I'm still waiting to hear back on the altered
generations Script I submitted to Amazon Studios.
I don't know whether they'll pick it up or not
If they do great if they don't then I'll shop
it around again I did find some things I probably
should have edited before I submitted it, but
I guess we'll just see when that comes So yeah
I've been having a lot of, I've had a few people
ask me anyway, and then it was even evident on
last week's episode when I was asked if I would
do my screenplay, which is basically like a superhero
time travel, everything impacts everything kind
of thing, like the future can alter the past,
and the past can alter the future, and it's like
a really weird dynamic, but I think I made it
coherent. You're kind of playing with the laws
of time travel, so it makes it a little bit different.
But one of the things that I've enjoyed with
the script is getting to craft these characters
and kind of build it into a series. And I was
asked if I would do like a audio play with it.
Because obviously I can't do an actual Video
of it because I need people and I need money
to actually shoot it. I don't have any like camera
equipment I know people that do I just don't
have like necessarily the time or the budget
to do that But born standing up says I really
like what you have for your screenplay stuff
You should put it together and do like a web
series or like an audio play. It could be cool
So like I I'm actually because of that idea I'm
probably gonna do like a 15 minute short episode
on it and try it out So I've actually decided
to go through with the idea. So I posted it on
a website which people of Geekcast Radio should
be familiar because Optimus Solo has been a long
time staff member there. Behind the Voice Actors
has a feature called Casting Call. And I've put
up 17 characters for my screenplay. The majority
of them are female. Because it's just how kind
of how the cast split up to begin with I do have
a few male characters Some of them villain some
of them not some of them short one characters
based off me. So obviously I'm going to voice
that one and Then there's like an announcer guy
which I may or may not do but people are welcome
to do that But anyway, so I've got a little bit
of a description of their voice a little and
style Some people are more generalized than others.
They're not By any means have to be that voice
exactly just saying like a rough guideline of
what I would be looking for but It means nothing
and I've also taken quotes from the script and
everything and I posted it over on The voice
acting Alliance as well To try and garner some
attention there I'm hoping that I can at least
get these characters because I'm not sure what
segment of the the screenplay I'm gonna do yet
but it'd be interesting to try it out and if
it does well I might do the first section of
the screenplay because if it does well then I
will continue on with parts two three and four
of the because you had to break them up into
you know part one part two part three and part
four which is the general split up of a television
show anyway because of commercials and everything.
So I broke it up in that way, but I'm hoping
that when I do it, it'll garner enough attention
and do well enough that I can move on with it.
I'm hoping that it does well regardless. Like
I'm hoping it actually sells and becomes a series
because I would love to see it come to fruition
that way. Yeah, I mean I've had a lot of fun
developing it and coming up with it I may yet
turn it into a book series to kind of play around
and see what happens Only time will tell I guess.
So yeah, there's been a lot of stuff going on.
We did the hot car episode of Altering GeekCast
Radio with TFG1 Mike Jesse from the radio station
that's close to TFG1 Mike in Kentucky and we
had Michael Wilson talking about how parents
Have been leaving their kids in the cars when
it's hot Tune into that if you want to hear more
about that. I'm not going to talk about it much
on here And then there's there's another interesting
thing that kind of goes along with my my side
projects here We are reviving and when I say
we I mean like I'm kind of spearheading this
the dark glass project The beast wars dark glass
because there's been a lot of I mean it's 20th
anniversary. There's been a lot of attention
Originally the auditions went up and I'm on voice
acting Alliance looking at it is September 27th
2010 is when the initial lines audition lines
came up And for all the characters And then we
had About 20 people audition, which was kind
of cool And then after that it kind of Never
went anywhere after that like we got all the
lines recorded in their final renditions. We
got all the character rigs we got some of the
sets But there's a lot of stuff that needed like
sets that need to be made and then they needed
to be animated with all the sets of the rigs
So I mean with with the audio anyway, so I mean
it was it was getting it was I would say was
about 25 % done but uh It's kind of sad that
it didn't get done, but like the guys that were
animated were just two guys So like life obviously
took over so we're still we're trying to get
another team together to kind of work with those
two guys and kind of revive it and kind of bring
it out of the Out of the ground and see how well
a thing thing can go. I'm tempted to get like
a Like patreon Kickstarter thing for it to get
it completed because we actually have like It's
a really compelling story that actually kind
of ties together Beast Wars and Beast Machines
really well and it kind of has some throwbacks
to G1 and it kind of There's a lot of stuff in
it. They can make it really really interesting
to do So with that I'm going to move on to the
next clip after this listening to the alter geek
news network and we're back and before we get
to our content we're gonna get into loot crate
if you haven't signed up for it already it's
a geek stuff box with over $40 worth of content
at the nice price of $19 .95 and you can get
a promo code which is TBV to save $3 off your
box or 15%. And you can do so and sign up for
first time customers only at www .lucrate .com
slash gcrn. Be sure to check them out. There
are sponsors. So with that, we'll be getting
to the content of the episode. Like I said, we
were going to do E3, but opted not to based on
the fact that Our gaming people weren't around
and I wanted to wait until they were here to
accurately discuss gaming. So I'm going to do
comics. Well, comic related stuff. I'm going
to do brief overviews of all of these different
categories. I have a ton under stuff, so just
bear with me. The film roundup that I have...
We have Xavier and Logan on the run in the new
set images from the Wolverine sequel. And then,
of course, we see an X -Men apocalypse video
showing Hugh Jackman as Weapon X running through,
basically, with the helmet and everything. It's
pretty cool. And then Beverly Hillscop IV, Eddie
Murphy is going to return set in Detroit. I know
this has been kind of a production hell, in a
sense. mostly due to writing and Eddie Murphy
saying that he's not gonna come back for a paycheck
it has to be a good film he's not doing it for
the money it's it's got to be a gotta be a good
story so yeah there's there's that and they just
got a duo of directors it's I'm gonna butcher
these names but Adil L. Arby and Bilal Fala known
for their Romeo and Juliet inspired update, Black.
They've impressed, apparently impressed Paramount
and Eddie Murphy and are going to be directing
the film. And also they're huge fans of the original
Beverly Hills Cop. So I guess this film is supposed
to be stated kind of closer to and more in realm
of the first Beverly Hills Cop, but it's gonna
be more Detroit based. So that should be pretty
interesting to see. But yeah, moving on, let
me know your thoughts on any of that stuff in
the comments below. We're gonna be getting into
the TV section. Gotham looks to be recasting
Poison Ivy for season three. My only guess for
that is would be that they're gonna actually
use her to some capacity this season with All
these various villains roaming about so yeah,
so I I'm pretty sure that's what's gonna happen,
but Time will tell So legends of tomorrow aside
from having a Like 1940s version of vixen are
going to be having a new character It's I want
to say it's Captain Steel, but they're gonna
be doing like the Justice Society type of setup
between the crossovers. So yeah, there's that.
Hero Season 5 is gonna have a new vigilante called
Wild Dog. I know nothing about that. And by the
way, the Legends of Tomorrow recruit was Citizen
Steel, which again, I know nothing about this
character either, so it'll be interesting to
see this play out through the show. They've cast
Tyler Hoechlin to play Superman on Supergirl
And from what it sounds like he'll be appearing
in maybe the first third and maybe another episode
throughout the season I just hope that they don't
make him like the big Like come in and rescue
her type thing I know that they said that he's
gonna come in and help Supergirl and then she's
gonna finish off the villain one of the episodes
So it'll be interesting to see that play out
and now that we've got Superman Supergirl and
Martian Manhunter and then in the other universe
we've got You know like flash and arrow and all
those guys It's gonna be really cool seeing how
all these characters play out the only thing
I wish they could touch on is like a Batman character
Having Batman show up to some capacity and Green
Lantern I feel like we're missing those but Guess
only time will tell it's it's still early on
and all these these shows lifespan other than
the arrow so Yeah, it should be pretty cool And
then the other kind of cool things is man TVs
returning to CW which kind of figures They're
the same ones that brought back whose line is
it anyway? After it was canned for me to see
family they revived it So it's kind of fitting
that they're bringing back Fox's show of mad
TV to the airwaves All new cast and it's going
to be starting Tuesday, July 26th. I'm going
to check that out. I'm not sure how well it's
going to do, but I'll give it a shot. Especially
with no programming through the summer. And then
we get our first Samurai Jack promotional art,
where Samurai Jack looks kind of gruff. He has
long hair, he's got the sword and it's bloodied.
They revealed it over in the UK during some kind
of awards or festival. Being a fan of the original
Samurai Jack Although I'm not well versed in
it. I was a fan of it I'm kind of excited to
see where this goes As far as like a miniseries
or a series revival Because it seems like series
revivals even if they're for a one season off
thing Tend to be a good thing for the show to
some degree as long as it's not heroes even though
I thought that that was better than the entire
second third and fourth season of heroes, but
Again, that's neither here nor there. Moving
on into, and I'm going to save my Transformers
stuff for all things Transformers just to kind
of keep this lighter. There's a bunch there,
too. Well, in the sci -fi department, we have
Hermione saying that Star Trek fan film lawsuit
on Axanar lives on. Although they, and this is
where I kind of think that they're... Being childish
in a sense like it says that It says within the
next few weeks it will be announced this is going
away and fans will be able to work on their projects
That's what Abram said Back in May However, there's
still an ongoing Counterclaims back and forth
between Axanar and Paramount CBS I, myself, think
this is really stupid that they keep dragging
this out. I think that fans should be able to
articulate and play in the franchises that they
enjoy. So long as they're not turning a profit
or trying to sell it without authorization from
the company. Now, if they're getting a Kickstarter
and getting money to budget it and put it together
and do it solely as a fan service thing, then
I think there's nothing wrong with that. But
if they're, you know, it... I can see where it's
a gray area but I don't see what it matters for
CBS and Paramount being that they haven't had
a successful television show since 2005 and their
films have kind of been mediocre at best. So
again, this is such a gray area but I have to
almost side with the fans just because this is
a company being petty. It's it's it's it's much
in the same realm as like YouTube flagging a
video because you used Like you did a fan dub
That's perfect example because I'm I'm involved
with fan dubbing of Transformers Headmasters
Anytime we put a video up No, it isn't me putting
the video. I'm one of the voice actors, but anytime
they put the video up YouTube flags it it goes
down and then they dispute it and then Hasbro
monetizes it So it's like a nice little, it's
like a slap on the wrist, we'll take some money
and use your voices that are in American doing
this series, but you can still show off your
fan dub and do the love for it. Now if Paramount
and CBS wanted to do it kind of like that, if
they wanted to piggyback off it a little bit,
then I could see that, but they shouldn't totally
disallow fans from... Expressing what they love
and kind of spreading the franchise out, but
I guess that's just me. I'm I'm kind of soft
in that department. I Enjoyed fan works. So yeah
DC Comics welcomes back Batman Day in September
and then Yeah, there's a ton of gaming stuff
for e3. Like I said, I'm not gonna touch on any
of that More so just because I don't want to
have to mess with it. So we'll be back right
after this Welcome to the Wicked Radio Network.

of course, Stitcher Smart Radio, iTunes, Blog
Talk Radio, and alteredgeek .com. And now, back
to the show. And we're back, so... One of the
things that that I've been wanting to kind of
talk about is well the fact that I Just had to
order a new headset. This is kind of a sidetrack,
but I've had this USB Logitech clear check Pro
headset for I don't know eight years now, I don't
know it's I've had it long enough that Since
we were doing all things transformers version
1 .0, but before GeekCast radio and the headset
on it was really cool Really comfortable. I loved
it It had the volume controls on it had a mute
on it so you can mute the microphone the microphone
folded down or fold it up I Quit using the microphone
about the time. I get my blue Yeti microphone
but The the headsets always been comfortable
well over the last. I don't know three years
the rubber or the the fake Like almost vinyl
let pleather type stuff has been flaking off
the last three years and It's been ridiculous,
and I'm one of those people that when I get something.
I'd like I don't really want to change What it
is so like if it's software I don't want to upgrade
to the new stuff if it's if it's like a setup
that I have because like I have this And I don't
know how you guys are with your equipment or
with your software or your desks, but I've got
this weird OCD that every time I've moved, and
I've moved probably like, I don't know, a dozen
times over the last 15 years, my desk has to
be set up exactly the same. Everything has to
go in the same spot, everything has to be plugged
in the same way. It's really, people think I'm
weird on that. But anyways, since I built that
new desk, I've got a certain setup and this is
how I like it and that aside, that kind of plays
into my need to keep the same stuff. So anyways,
this headset's been flaking off for the last
three years. Pieces have been on my head when
I take it off. I ended up electrical taping the
top part so that it doesn't flake on the top
of my head and it felt comfortable. So that held
that together and then the ear pieces were doing
it too and there's nothing I could do about that
aside from replacing them but I couldn't get
it off. And then one of, about six months ago,
one of the extensions that go to the, so you
can extend the head piece to the ear pieces actually
cracked and broke off and I managed to shove
it back in there and I extended the other side
to compensate so that I didn't have to buy another
headset. So fast forward to last week when I
was actually recording Altered Geek and Doing
my gaming and all of a sudden part of this sound
starts going Like that and I I started kind of
freaking I'm like, okay is something wrong with
my computer and then Was finishing my game because
I can only hear out of one earphone, and I took
my headset off and the earpiece itself Detached
from the headset fell off and was dangling by
a wire so I knew the thing was shot so I tried
taking it apart last night when I went to go
game and I don't have any other headphones in
my house like that was my headphones those were
my USB I have a speaker but I don't like to use
it when I podcast and so I had to go find my
mp3 player headphones and they were so faint
and I did not like it because I had to be right
in front of my monitor to use it because the
cords like a foot and a half and my USB headset
was an eight foot cord so I could have a snake
behind my monitor and relax in my chair and lean
back and play my game with my other eight foot
cord to my Xbox 360 controller that I could play
my games with on my PC so I usually lounge in
my chair well yeah the headset wasn't doing it
for me the the cheapo one and the USB one I ended
up having to throw in the garbage because I tried
to repair it last night and it just wouldn't
take and I I kind of knew that that was the death
of the headphones so I had to order a new set
today and they don't sell that exact one That
exact one, actually, if you go to buy it now
on Amazon, it's like $160 and I paid $35 for
it when it was new. So I had to find a comparable
one and I bought it for $35. I should have that
next week when I record Altered Geek. But yeah,
it's sad to me when my equipment dies and I have
to upgrade because I feel horrible about it because
I'm like, it's this part of me. I can't let it
go. It's kind of like my car when I upgraded
my car this week I it's been such a part of my
life for the last nine years and I know every
feel I know every like I Know everything about
the car It's like a it's like an extension of
who I am like kind of like the headset or the
microphone or you know It just it becomes like
a part of you, so it it it's hard to let it go
when it's time So I mean I've had a couple big
changes this week got a new headset comment.
I got a new car So it's just really weird for
me When you're not used to change Or you don't
like change and simple thing going now. I'm having
to go through my office and I'm sorry if I'm
boring you I hope I'm not but And I don't know
how you guys how you guys hold your collections
or anything I have like a curio cabinet type
thing in my office that has my figures in it
that are open and I have my other ones with thumbtacks
Hanging on the wall that have their backs and
boards to them still And I have my comics in
the closet in the in the office and I have to
share the office with my wife so Part of her
stuffs in there and part of mine I have a lot
of the closet space taken up because I have crap
that I just refuse to put in the crawlspace Or
in the attic mostly my comics some of its toys
some of its tech some of its just crap that I
Probably won't look at to be honest I just it's
that nostalgia of the fact that it all used at
one time fit in my desk or under my desk and
I don't have anywhere to put it so it just stays
in my office in case I need to get to it which
I rarely do So I get where my wife's coming from,
because I am a pack rat. I'm not a hoarder, but
I'm a pack rat. So it's kind of difficult for
me. I always want to get rid of stuff, but at
the same time, I'm like, well, I might use this
for this. Like, I have some Dragon Ball Z magazines
that I'm going to use for the Cyber Dragon Ball.
And I'm like, well, I could throw these away,
because I could look it up. But I'm like, no,
I could have this as quick access. So it's, yeah,
it's a lot of that kind of stuff. Don't know
how you guys are with your collections and with
your stuff that you you have in your office I
It's it's very hard for me I And I would assume
that anybody that has a collection of things
or things that they've had for the last like
20 30 years It's it's got to be hard to not Display
it or being told that you need to liquidate And
I've already liquidated a lot of my toys. I just
Due to space reasons I just I had to get rid
of them plus I wanted to buy the masterpiece
optimus primal coming out in October So I had
to trade in almost every transformer figure I
had which wasn't that many to afford The masterpiece
figure and then of course I get the announcement.
Oh, we're making a masterpiece cheetor now So
I'm like, oh, well that's super because I've
never seen a good cheetor figure And now they're
coming out with a good cheetor figure which probably
won't be till next year But still I'm like you
kidding me man because it's probably gonna be
like $89 like the other you know because the
leaders are always more and then they charge
less for the you know the secondary characters,
so So I'm guessing they're gonna go through all
the Beast Wars cast like in their season one
forms and then they might do season two and three
but When they come to rat trap I'm probably gonna
just Use his because of size reasons If they
do a rat trap masterpiece I'm probably gonna
use the 30th anniversary version because that's
Show accurate as you're gonna get and then I'll
probably do the same thing with the Rhinox that
came out for the 30th and the Waspinator and
then I have the Dinobot from the like 25th or
maybe it's the Universe line, but anyways, it
looks they look close enough to the show I'm
not concerned with getting the masterpiece and
they were only like Anywhere from like five to
fifteen dollars, so I'm not heartbroken if I
don't get them as a Holy crap, I see a trolley
driving down the street. That's just weird Sorry
for that. I just it's strange I've never seen
a trolley down the city before drawing or driving
down the street so Yeah, I'm Ecstatic for the
Beast Wars figures as they come out. I'm looking
forward to like a masterpiece Megatron for sure.
I know I'm gonna get that when that comes out.
That's that's a hundred percent cheater I might
get it depends on the cost If they come up with
a masterpiece scourge I might do that too from
Transformers Headmasters Only for the fact that
I've been voicing him for the last 10 11 years
on TFCOG So it's got this this close personal
spot with me So it I don't know there's certain
things like I can barely get rid of and then
there's certain things like I'm like I would
love to have a show accurate version of this
as opposed to having the original version which
if you bought it new it would cost about the
same as the masterpiece but it doesn't have the
articulation or the the look of the new thing
so that's where I guess we're technology is better
now so this in and of itself kind of lends itself
to the The same type of thing as the Transformers
with the Batman figures or Ninja Turtles. I'd
love to get my hands on a Show Accurate Crang
from the 87 Turtles, but obviously they aren't
going to have the masterpiece of that. But like
the Batman stuff, like I've gotten a few of those
and those have been pretty spectacular, so. But
yeah, that being aside... What would you guys
like to see come from the show in the next couple
of weeks? Sorry little jumbled on vocals there
Because I'm I'm planning for the big 150 to do
like a live show like maybe a live stream or
Some kind of thing on like Google Hangouts and
maybe try and get some varying hosts or varying
guests on to participate and kind of see how
that goes maybe do like a giant Q &A or kind
of cycle through some of the old feedback and
kind of answer it now with maybe some updated
information or so just just sound off in the
comments below and let me know and then so I
guess until next time get altered geeky with
the altered geeks
No chapter markers for this episode.
