Altered Geek
Career Changes and Superhero TV Trends

About this Episode
Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening
to the geek cast radio network We've never had
a president like Donald Trump You are tuned in
to Steve Megatron on Altered Geek Unlimited.
Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix
is. You have to see it for yourself. This is
your last chance. After this, there is no turning
back. You take the blue pill. The story ends.
You wake up in your bed and believe whatever
you want to believe. You take the red pill. You
stay in Wonderland. And I show you how deep the
rabbit hole goes. Hello and welcome to Altergeek
Unlimited! Yes, I had a day unlimited back this
week. Sue me. Episode 165. It's a free podcast.
How the hell can they sue us? Oh, believe me,
it's possible. Especially after that genie joke
at the beginning there. Good old Disney. Whoever
would have thought they would have been talking
politics with that. I know, right? preface yes
altered geek 164 came out yesterday or two days
ago yeah when this releases um reason being I
had to vet the information first and having information
that I will divulge at the end of this episode
will explain why I did what I did I had to cut
part of the beginning of it the beginning of
it. But that's all right. I still got my genie
joking. That's all I cared about. Yeah. I saved
it. I know that it's in a gray area. We both
have life changes that are coming up between
the end of this year and next year that we're
going to talk about later in this podcast, folks.
That's one of the reasons why. 164 might sound
a little off in the beginning or either I or
you are referencing the cold open which never
actually happened. It was kind of a cold open.
It was so frozen nobody heard it. Just let it
go. Cause it blows, it blows. I guess before
we get into the... One of the two main topics
here I should say I listened to part of the part
two of the GCR in top 100 animated characters
countdown I listened from episode or from numbers
75 to say I listened the first five entries and
Wow That list is probably gonna be the most crazy
diverse list we've had even crazier than the
TV show list Yeah, I'm um based on the fact that
I have no time. I'm waiting for the Reader's
Digest version. We are waiting for the finale.
Yeah, which I'll be on. So I will have to catch
up at some point and figure out why things or
where things landed. I would be curious to find
out if any of mine actually were mentioned, meaning
if I was one of the highest voters on some of
the characters. As they're getting knocked off.
Yeah, from 75 to 70 I can tell you most likely
not. Because like I said, I listen to it and
I listen to part of it because I was doing the
behind the scenes stuff with it. Getting it up
on GCR, Cinema Geeks, Tooncast Classic and beyond.
Kevin never mentioned you being one of the top
voters on the entries for 75 to 70 so I'll be
mad if none of mine actually make the list I'll
be like it's blasphemy I'd be like I did a hundred
there's a hundred characters man see this is
why we should run everything on this network
anarchy anarchy So yeah, see if I was gonna do
a top 100 list of it I'm not cutting them down
because I haven't listened to it. I don't know
who was. No, I think it's great. It's given the
countdown fresh voices. The first episode had
movie role Dan from Talking in Circles and Cinema
Geeks, Kevin Optimus Ola Thompson from Cinema
Geeks and... Which obviously he's going to be
involved because he's doing the list. His girlfriend...
Hard Candy Mandy from cinema geeks my buddy sketch
who has done several tune cast stuff with me
beforehand And they had Matt Fridley Frit Fridley
sent from also from cinema geeks part two They
had all those people except Matt. I guess either
couldn't make it or whatever guess who they brought
in for part two TV's mr.. Neal It's awesome!
I mean, I'll listen eventually. I don't even
know how long they are. I know they're well over
two hours. First episode was 220, second episode's
about 231. Yeah. I have a life now, I can't do
it. I know. I wish I could be on all of them
again, like I usually do, but it's just time
permitting is not time permitting. That would
be why I'm not on them this time. I was going
to say, if I was going to do a Top 100 though,
I wouldn't have included the Muppets, which in
my list I did not. I realize why they put them
there, but I kind of disagree with that for the
same reason that they disagreed with putting
comic book characters in. So, I was, I originally,
I didn't actually submit a list for this one.
Normally I, even if I'm not on the countdown,
I will submit a list regardless of 100, whatever,
whether it's animated series, films, TV shows,
animated characters, whatever. Normally I would,
but I've just been under a lot of stress and
a lot of pre and post production for podcasts
and I did sit down and try to make a list of
100 characters and I made two. Both are the same
except for the number ones on each are different.
I made one that was more of a joke because I
don't know what that is. I'm going to say it
in a second. I made a serious one where I thought
my number one character is... I had legitimate
reasons for that. On the joke one... Just to
see how far he could get and so far from listening
to and seeing some of the results From part one
and now part two so far. He hasn't gotten on
there I don't think he will but as a joke I put
scrappy do is number one on my list, but I never
actually sent in a list so Alright the other
this is back in October of this year I forget
who originally shared it with me or shared it
and it showed up on my timeline but it is from
the geeky fact or crap Facebook page. This is
Red pill, blue pill. So basically that's why
we had the matrix at the beginning of the podcast,
folks. Under the red pill, it has various, under
both has various geeky things, but it's basically
like choose red pill or blue pill. Under the
red pill, you have Marvel, Coca -Cola, Samsung.
Watch out, they explode. Dunkin' Donuts, Nike,
Sprite, Burger King, Cheetos, Pokemon, Xbox One,
Madden, NFL games, Naruto, Dominoes, and Star
Wars. Under the blue pill, we have Pepsi. DC
Comics, Apple, Mountain Dew, which technically
that's a part of Pepsi, but whatever, because
Sprite's on the other side, but whatever, Adidas,
Starbucks, okay, McDonald's, PS4, NBA 2K series,
what is this Square Cirque, what the hell, what
is that like a, what is the thing next to the
NBA 2K thing, like in between that and the Doritos,
I don't know what the hell that is. I think it's
a Tamagotchi. Okay. maybe i don't know maybe
it's a power ranger yeah no no that's not that's
not a power morpher no it looks like one of those
pet things the digital pet games dragon ball
z pizza hut and star trek now when this was posted
on facebook they're basically like which do you
choose okay before we give our choices and opinions
on this when i posted this several people commented
on it and i kind of want to go through these
because it's it's kind of fun uh... first person
which i'm really surprised that sometimes when
he comments on stuff because he comments on various
things but not everything another phillips boy
good ol' brian phillips here your brother oh
gosh this is like choosing between democrat and
republican i have some of both uh... warrant
warrant doesn't surprise me but uh... wait wait
wait hang on there uh... my buddy michael artis
who's a gem fan says blue your brother comments
back i have four more in common with red than
blue haha uh... my future father -in -law patrick
all day says i do believe i will take the blue
pill thank you very much ryan drost from star
joe's says i love star wars and i love d .c.
so this would be tough but i have to go star
wars always red pill it is uh... Amber Jensen
who most people may know on Twitter as my baby
She's done several podcasts on the network somewhere
toy cast and things like that. She says red.
Oh, yeah in that pinky pie of podcasting Nicole
Hale blue pill for Pepsi alone and I asked her
crystal Pepsi I haven't retried it yet. She replied
and then Michael Turner not hard at all blue
pill and that's it So Yeah, I can't believe Brian
brought the politics of it all into it, really.
He's, uh... Yeah, I know. Hardcore politics.
Yeah, I know. He's your brother. No, I wasn't
even sighing from that. It's this... It's the
choice. ...graphic is total dogs and dogs. There's
no legitimate goodness to it. And I say that
because it's true Well, I was gonna say cuz I
there's things from both lists I would take and
Yeah, that's That's Saying that because I there
are things on both lists I dislike greatly And
then there's things on the other list that I
really enjoy so For me and we're not actually
gonna choose here folks aside We're gonna take
these things. Yeah, huh cop out and we're gonna
make a purple pill Because if you mesh red and
blue together, they make purple So for me I would
take Coca -Cola Dunkin Donuts, Nike, Burger King,
Sprite, Star Wars, Domino's, and then from the
blue side, I'd take Apple, DC, McDonald's, PS4,
Pizza Hut, and Star Trek. What about you? So,
my list. would be um coca -cola dc comics big
donald's dragon ball z dominoes star trek star
wars xbox one yeah i just can't get over those
controllers still i know that i love the xbox
controller i know well i dislike the playstation
one and the only The only Xbox controller I ever
really knew at the time was when the original
that one blue chum yeah big time that was the
worst controller I've ever used yeah and my 360
controller actually feels like a very close and
reminiscent to like a If you mixed a Sega Genesis
one with a PlayStation one, that's what you get
Yeah, so I I have this very nice grip to it.
I eventually want to, unfortunately it costs
more money than what it's worth, to, well they
have this thing on Microsoft now where you can
create your own Xbox One controller. Oh, cool.
And it works for PC or the Xbox One because,
yeah, it hooks up like Bluetooth or something.
You get to design every, like, color of every
piece in whatever way the buttons, you know,
you can make them translucent, you can make them
white, you can make them black, you can make
them so there's no letters on them or colors
or whatever. You can change, like, every aspect
of the controller, plus you can have text printed
on it. And I played around with one and, like,
months ago when they revealed that feature, I
made a controller where, like, the buttons were,
like, a gray color. And the front was orange
and the back was blue in it. I made it say altered
geek And it's unfortunately like $89 and I'm
like I'm not spending $89 on a controller. I
would love to have one. Yeah But my GameStop
edition that was $20 that's plugged in from my
Xbox 360 Works just fine Although the having
it plugged in does suck. So but there's no latency
so it's neither here nor there but yeah so like
as far as these these two pills i um i i find
it very much a cop -out if i had to choose one
i'd almost have to go just based on some of the
tech i'd have to go like almost red pill Because
like coca -cola is like one of my things Xbox
is one of my things dominoes and Star Wars the
rest of it I care less but I was looking at blue
pill and then I I like DC McDonald's Dragon Ball
Z and Star Trek so it's about even like choicing.
Yeah either side so It makes it pretty difficult.
Yeah and that's why I'm kind of glad we did the
cop out and made our own because Out of what's
on here because I could never pick anything with
overpriced disgusting coffee on it Take that
stuff and shove it, Starducks. Same token, I
could almost take the blue pill because I like
the characters of DC. I like the characters of
Star Trek. I like Dragon Ball Z's characters,
and I like McDonald's food. Yeah. So, and Pepsi,
like, I could get over not having Coca -Cola
because there's still a cola hole over there.
Yeah. So, I don't know. Not as big of a fan as
some of the other properties. I'm both less so
yeah That's why we picked and shoot shoot chose
our own out of the list and there are some that
we left off here obviously For me, you know,
I've drank diet Pepsi before but I prefer diet
coke and no It's not because I'm on a diet folks.
It's because of the taste So, you know the funny
thing about diet coke and diet Pepsi is they
have Each company has two of the best commercials
for their product ever. For Diet Coke, it was
the Batman 89 Alfred commercial. Hello, Gotham
Corner Store. We seem to be down to our last
Diet Coke. A gentleman is on his way. He'll be
in a black car. No, this black car you won't
be able to miss. And then with Pepsi, with Diet
Pepsi, it was always Ray Charles. You got the
right one, baby! So... I absolutely love that
stuff. Love those ads. So, yeah, I definitely
cop out in that situation. The only thing that
makes Pepsi almost better than Coke is they don't
use aspartame anymore. It's an artificial sweetener.
They use something else. And it's supposed to
be better for you than the other one not that
any pop is good for you whatsoever, but all right
again Yeah, so that's true. Yeah, so the superhero
shows are back in full force again We had everything
this week We're recording this the night that
legends airs so we wouldn't be able to talk about
that, but legends has just been Season two has
been kicking ass. I've been loving legends Flash
this week had our superhero head parasite flash
had shade and Arrow has gotten... Arrow Season
5 is by far the best season outside of Season
1 and Season 2. Like Arrow Season 5 is just really
kicking ass. It's taking the drama down to a
minimum and just basically giving you a high
-velocity action show at this point. Which is
awesome. Yeah, which is a nice change of pace.
Yeah, and did you like the reveal of a certain
villain in The Flash? Oh, Killer Frost? Oh, no,
I wasn't saying that. She's gonna be in the next
episode as the villain. Yeah, she's in the next
one, yeah. No, Doctor Alchemy. They revealed
him? Yeah. Did you watch this week's Flash? Yeah.
Yeah, they revealed him. You didn't see him fade
to the ground and then a blue streak go across
the screen. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. The god of
speed or something or other. Yeah, his avatar
or whatever. Yeah. See, originally I thought
somehow it was for some odd reason. I don't know
why I thought this was going to be who the villain
was, but I really thought it was going to be
Julian. I hate that guy. There's something odd
about him. But I don't think he's any of the
Metas. Yeah. Well, he hates Metas. Well, that
doesn't mean anything. That's true. He could
be, you know, I assumed he was going to be Alchemy,
but the the beefy looking form of Zavatar is
kind of a little freaky. But yeah, I'm looking
forward to seeing that. And then, you know, while
he's going to get his power shortly. Now that
unfortunately killer frost is unleashed. I think
there's gonna come a point where Caitlin's gonna
stop being in the show Yeah, that's gonna be
unfortunate But I'm loving the way that they
took that angle like they already they essentially
gave us two killer frosts It's essentially the
same person, but obviously different earths,
but you know they gave us one where she was already
bad And now they're taking our Katelyn Snow from
our earth and basically I just I love the hell
out of that promo. The promo for next week's
episode was just absolutely awesome. And then
how Cisco vibed their battle and then I love
how HR, this new Harrison Wells who's a complete
phony, is like oh I changed my face. Like he's
he's very like down -to -earth, but he's like
he's such a fake Yeah, that he's almost pointless
being there. Yeah, I mean I love seeing Tom Cavanaugh
as the character but I love how they change his
character though every time cuz like he plays
Harrison Wells so well and then And then it turns
out to be Eobard gone. Yep, and then he plays
as Harry and now he's just HR so it's just it's
humorous to me to see like every different incarnation
of Harrison Wells and I know they explain the
HR but when I first heard it I'm like hey wait
a second you replace the R with a G and you have
HG Wells that's probably why they did it yeah
I know well the interesting thing is you mentioned
Eobard Eobard and Damien Dark have been killing
it on Legends, because time travel and Damien's
still alive, it's before he dies, and I guess
this was before Eobard took over Wills' body,
which I don't know how that... because I thought
he did that as soon as he came to the Flash Earth,
so... Maybe that's his last destination, though.
because his, maybe because his Legion of Doom
thing never worked. Oh, okay, that could be,
yeah. But, I mean... I'm just... I love the character
change with Not Hat. I mean, I love Rip Hunter.
I really enjoyed him in the first season, but
I'm kind of... I'm wondering when they're going
to bring him back. I think it might be like a
mid -season, like, you know how they do the mid
-season finale kind of thing? It might be either
that or it might be closer to the end of the
season. Because I'm loving Sarah as as the captain
that makes a hell of a lot more sense to me in
in the direction that the show is going at this
point and Citizen steel you can see he's gonna
get a suit Mm -hmm soon, and I wish Palmer would
get his suit back or at least invent a new one
Yeah, cuz right now all this is a crappy Clark
Kent Which he's used to playing that Yeah, so
I mean like I mean I'm I'm okay with it because
like they're giving it more to do and kind of
fleshed him out a little bit I Think we mentioned
this last week or in 163 or something was the
zombie episode that happened I think it was a
week before this week's up or last week said
it was two weeks ago But I absolutely loved in
that episode was Martin Stein do not say it do
not say the Z word And then Mick becomes one.
Yep, that's hilarious. I'm really wondering it
what you know, we're wondering when Rip Hunter
is gonna come back and I'm also wondering at
some point when In the you know hell freezes
over to mention are they gonna go back to a time
where Leonard snart is still around Well, I'm
thinking because of flashpoint. Yeah He may have
reemerged and they just don't know it yet It's
gonna be a version that never went with the legends,
right? Yeah So that was the one thing about you
know this whole Ray Palmer McRory thing You know
Mick is you know Mick tells him Oh be like Captain
Cold and then Mick is like no don't be like Captain
Cold I miss my friends, so I like when those
hard -ass characters Well, he's like be like
you yeah Yeah. But I really enjoy when those
hard -ass characters have an emotional moment.
I know everyone hates TMNT 2014, and that's fine.
But I really enjoyed when Raph finally, at the
end of the movie, had that emotional, teary -eyed
moment because it was such a departure of Raph's
constant attitude. So another superhero related
news Justice or Young Justice is getting a third
season on Netflix. Yep. Yes Justice League Dark's
trailer just hit which is interesting I don't
know if I'll watch this film right away, but
it's guys. It looks very interesting Let's see
what else hit this week I know there was a new
featurette for Star Wars, I just haven't watched
it. I haven't even seen it. I haven't even seen
the video pop up. But one thing that did pop
up was another Disney live -action film based
on their other Princess movies. The Beauty and
the Beast live -action adaptation trailer hit.
I thought you were going to say Beastiality in
the movie. No, no, that's... Dude, this is Disney.
We're not talking about DreamWorks. This is not
Katzenberg anymore. It technically is bestiality
because What she wants she wants the beast? He's
human under all that fur. Yeah, but she wants
she wants that fur, you know, I I wasn't gonna
go here, but I'm going to I know you don't Know
this or you may not you may never watch or whatever
else when Amy and Nicole and I were doing the
Showtime synergy gem review show here on all
Geek Wow, that was weird all things. Yeah Well
on the GCR and there's an episode of gem called
beauty and the rock promoter and it's this like
80s kind of synth metal version of a beauty and
the beast kind of play but The Beast is actually
voiced by Greg Berger in the cartoon episode.
It's kind of hilarious and awesome. Grimlock,
yep. Me Grimlock went to Munch Metal. So yeah,
that's going on. We've got a bunch of stuff coming
up for GCRN and other things. Did you want to
take a break here and maybe come back and talk
about what's going to be going on the end of
this year and beginning of next year? Yeah, we
could do that. After these messages, we'll be
right back. Welcome to the Wicked Radio Network.

we're back. So, so last week without the cold
open, I had mentioned at one point in the podcast
that we were going to be getting a little bit
more personal and just letting you guys know
what's going on with our lives. So quickly, 50
questions with Mike. Ah, funny. Ask him 50 questions.
Ask me 50 questions. We'll see who answers what.
Yeah. You know, for some odd reason, I keep thinking
of one of those Facebook memes where it's a whole
list and then you have to answer the whole damn
thing. Like, you know, you know, there was one
Facebook meme going around where they're like...
Say hi and I'll give you a year and then you
have to say what you were doing that year from
whatever the questions were Which is why I never
liked those because I don't want to be given
anything. It's It's it's like giving you Facebook
herpes that they have they want to spread And
the funny thing is technically it's basically
the evolution of what email chain letters used
to be remember those old email chain letters
that would be sent to like a thousand people
and then a thousand other people would forward
them and then they're like if you don't forward
this you're dead to us or whatever it is if you
don't forward this your balls will fall off miraculously
tomorrow afternoon and then you're like well
i better send this and speaking of uh you mentioned
earlier the that these are these things on facebook
are like facebook herpes i think this is one
other thing we ought to talk about is facebook
Mr. Mark Zuckerberg and his infinite wisdom is
going to be trying to cut down on fake news.
See, I heard that it wasn't him. I heard it was
a secret militia of Facebook coders that were
going to take it on. But again, it could be a
fake story, so I don't know. Yeah, could be.
What was so funny was... When that popped up,
somebody, I think it was our buddy Ender, he
posted on Facebook a link to a list of all the
news sites that are the fakey clickbaity junk
websites. yeah some some of these websites are
comedy websites i get it like funny or die or
the onion it's it's satire we get it but most
of the other ones are like i said click baity
and or report fake news or news that's incorrect
and things like that did you see t .v. mister
neil uh... poster about that uh... what do you
know what do you do now i read it it said uh...
so does that mean we can just stop seeing uh...
drugs report cnn abc yes yes Fox News, yeah,
I did see that. That's, yeah, that's funny. Oh
boy. Alright. So, the life updates here. You,
sir, are finishing school. Yep, I got another
semester left. Before I get to exit that and
never return. If I ever get my bachelor's that's
I probably won't but something to strive for
you oughta See this is my thing with education.
I well I agree with it to an extent. I Feel like
I'm wasting my time And when I say this it'll
come into play with another life event that's
going on but The the fact of the matter is is
I had something happen recently And people were
like, oh, it's your education paying off. And
I says, no, it's Keep Cast Radio. And they're
like, oh. And I'm like, yes, the endeavor that
we get no pay for has helped me in life and in
more than one way. So the funny thing is, is
my current job has done nothing for me. Other
than say that I can work somewhere for ten years.
Okay, I was gonna ask you've been there how long
but yeah Ten years I am ready to leave I've been
ready to leave there's been points where I've
been wanting to No granted I'm one of those people
like I think Like evil thoughts like I would
want to go in there and be like, yeah, you know
what? There's some changes around here and you're
part of it. So see you later, you know and But
I'm not that type of person It's it's not in
my blood I'm very polite I like to not burn bridges
and I like people too much even though I make
the claim that I don't like people, which is
total BS. I'm just one of those people that has
a hard time if I don't know somebody. So what
essentially it is is I like people and I feel
for them in the sense that I don't want to be
a dick at any given point. So my life event is
I applied to a job. in August. Thought nothing
of it. Two weeks go by, get a call for an interview.
Get that interview. Think it went pretty well.
Went from, you know, talked for about 35, 45
minutes. Real fun, interesting individual that
I chatted with. The company I knew about ahead
of time anyhow like regardless of additional
research I watched and listened to the content
that they put out and it is a media company and
They more or less didn't I didn't hear anything
again for another two weeks and They scheduled
another call and I talked to somebody even higher
up actually top of the food chain and Talked
for over an hour went pretty well very blunt
and honest Chris they asked me my their opinion
of their website. Yeah, I Don't hold back on
things like that. No And especially in the fact
that if they're testing you personality wise
your integrity and your ability to No matter
how it's perceived Be honest, which I was I told
them that their website looked cluttered in a
mess and it went on for way too long and My assignment
was as a part of the the thing was to give recommendations
on changes which I did and They about two weeks
ago launched their new website, which it's very
clean. Mm -hmm Because if I would have printed
it before it would have been on like 14 pages
This is like a page and a half So it's like almost
two pages, but it's it's clean to the point and
like you can easily find what you're looking
for They had like the infinite scroll type thing
turned on before it's like all their content
was constantly flooding the screen. Oh, yeah,
that's so it was like So it was just horrible
and the sidebar was bad. But, you know, they
fixed a lot of the stuff. I mean, they're still
working on stuff, which is cool. But anyways,
I was honest about it. And so, you know, like
two weeks went by, got another interview with
who would become my boss for the new job. Didn't
hear anything for about a month. Didn't think
I got it. Um, then I got an offer for the position
and then I got the position and then, uh, um,
so I sat on it for about a week before I told
my old job or current job or soon to be not job.
By the time this episode comes out, it will be
my last day at that job. Um, and, uh, so I told
him Monday morning about, you know, I was telling
him something about my job and, uh, They I says
oh, yeah, by the way I'm putting in my notice
And it went pretty well and then I've discovered
in the meantime that they've because I do three
people's jobs at my current or my old job and
They've decided to divvy it up between three
people that already work there Mind you, because
they think they're saving money. What in actuality
they've done is they've dumped things that these
people do not understand on them. Right. Um,
the one person used to do the car transportation
rentals when I start, when, before I even took
that position, but they used to have three vehicles.
I went from three to 20. Wow. and I had to figure
out and manage the system and I had to organize
the system because there was no system. So I've
streamlined that entire process and then so they're
working off my templates now. So that I wasn't
really that concerned with because they've handled
it for me when I've been on vacation. So that
it's in decent hands. It's whether they can handle
doing their regular job and then having to put
up with that. whether they keep that and then
somebody in the office who is you know decently
technically savvy understand stuff you know our
age but doesn't know the technical stuff that
I know I have 25 years of computer IT stuff under
my belt. I have 16 years of graphic design under
my belt, as well as website design. Well, I have
18 years of web design. Adding all of that together,
I don't think that it was wise to give it to
this person. I mean, it's not my call. I'm not...
the manager but like a lot of their their processes
at the old place is kind of um uh archaic yeah
and i'm not trying to beat them up or anything
it's just they've been in the same mode for so
long that it's just there's no they're just stuck
in their own way and that's part of the problem
with the place but um I mean, I have nothing
but good things to say about the job. They've
been really good to me. The people there are
awesome. They bend over backwards. But the overall,
it kind of boggled my mind that they gave all
of that to other people and then didn't expect
to give them anything in return for it. To shave
a buck. And I told them, I'm like, look, I'm
not moving until late this summer. So if you
need to contract me out. Yep. So yeah. So anyways,
I got a new job. I'm working a media job. I have
to, after I graduate, move to Texas. OK, now,
when he first told me this, folks, the first
thing I said to him was, be careful. Master Galvatron
doesn't find you. Now, no one besides the two
of us is going to know what that means, but I'm
going to tell you. When I first met Steve, he
was with a host on his show, All Things Transformers,
named Master Galvatron, who lived and was from
Texas. Steve is born and raised and lived in
Michigan all his life. And Master Galvatron was
one weird dude. Yeah, it's putting it bluntly.
Um, it's putting it PC and Yeah, I don't know
the guy that well. I'm just saying from you know,
I haven't heard from him since yeah from what
I heard of him on the show The dude is just strange.
Well, he I know he was it's like a couple years
younger than me, but He was like my one of my
brother's age but he He rubbed people the wrong
way on this transformer site that I grabbed him
from Because that's where I put out because I
used to spend a lot of time I'm like between
the Transformers Network and the Cybertron archives
and He came from the Cybertron archives and You
know the Transformers Network has since been
reborn as the Transformers Network dot -com because
the original domain still owned by a yes Buttle
that won't give it back to the person that originally
owned it because they're doing nothing with the
site anyway. Ah, right. Sell them an obscene
amount of money for that stupid domain, so it's
like, all right, screw you too, buddy. But yeah,
the Cybertron Archive's been long gone. There's
a couple of old members of the site that have
resurrected into something else now, but yeah,
so... That all being said I haven't heard from
the guy since because when he was out of the
Cybertron archive He was harassing women. Oh
boy. Okay. That's all you say and that's all
I have to say about it because I haven't heard
from him since and so I was kind of glad that
ties were cut automatically on their own. So
Steve is basically doing something he's never,
to my knowledge, you've never done before. You're
basically picking up and moving your family to
a different state. I'm terrified. Okay, so Steve
is going to somewhere around, what, the Dallas
area? It is Dallas area. based out of las colinas
irving texas okay which is west of dallas so
if there are any of our friends that are down
in that area for podcasting and that kind of
stuff that have done podcasting please let us
know so steve can you know have some local friends
down there, because for me, I have lived various
places all my life. First 13 years, I lived in
Massachusetts, but I try, you know, with my family,
I traveled through, I've been to Disney World
like five or six different times in my lifetime.
I lived in Mississippi for two and a half, three
years off and on. I've lived here in Kentucky
for 23 years. You know, I lived in Florida for
about two and a half months. at one point or
another. Lived in Pennsylvania for a day and
a half. Don't ask. That was just no. And, you
know, my journey is is going to be changing here
in a minute, which I'll talk about in a minute.
But like for you, it's going to be a completely
new experience. And as you said, something that's
scaring the hell out of you, because both of
us hate change in anything, you know. But I think
this will be good and fun for you. I think the
only downside is you won't have any family down
there. That's going to be the worst part is not
having any family down there. And the other fact
is I have no friends down there, which to be
fair, I have no friends that live around here
for the most part other than our church friends,
which... are basically family, so it still kinda
sucks and hurts to move. But at the same time,
there's no jobs here. I've been looking for ten
years and I have not found anything. You know,
the funny thing is, the thought occurred to me,
you could just bring your mom with you, because
she hates living in that waterless... She will
never move, and I'm not taking her with me. I'm
just I love my mom, but like that's not even
I know I the pessimism that runs through my family
on both sides is not worth I Understand that
I I'm just saying I figure out you can rescue
her and take her out of that No, no clean water
ridden city that she lives in The thing about
my family that nobody understands is they love
to complain so if they have been taken out of
an element of complaint, they will still find
reason to complain. There's no... Yeah, I just...
Yeah, it's just my whole family likes to complain,
so it's... Yeah. Alright, moving along here,
we do have an update from our buddy Scanner51.
He wanted to... basically uh... uh... clarifying
his uh... streaming comment that you know he
wanted me to respond to uh... last week uh...
i think that they didn't show did you have a
show because obviously didn't he wouldn't be
replying he says i want to clarify the streaming
tax will be hits with a percentage of our sales
tax for each show that is streamed every single
one If you want to put sales tax on a subscription,
if it's $8 .99 and then the tax afterwards ends
up being $9 .10, $9 .05, whatever it is, $9 .05,
whatever it is, that's fine. If Hulu wants to
charge me $11 .99 plus tax and it'd be $12 .06,
that's fine. But if you're going to tax me on
every single show I stream, that's a little overkill.
It's a little much, and I would rather sit here
and spend, instead of spending the $20 a month
on Netflix and Hulu, I would rather take that
to iTunes and just buy the season outright. Because
taxing each individual show, that is going to
be horrible if that happens. Well, the funny
thing is, is you're going to see a lot more,
um, gyars, pirates. So This too Which is interesting
My wife tells me that In a certain place down
in Texas like pertaining to move yeah, so internet
speeds down there or internet packages I guess
I can get a pretty fast internet connection for
more or for less than I'm paying now down there
compared up here so kind of like our buddy powers
when he went from Michigan to Columbus Ohio yeah
yeah awesome yeah so I was quite happy to hear
that high -speed internet down there. I know
they have Time Warner down there. I know they
have Houston. I know they have Xfinity. It's
not Comcast, but they have Cox down there. They
have Charter. They have stuff anyway. They have
all of them down there. It's just a matter of
figuring out which town. I will never have AT
&T or Comcast because they have dog snot speeds.
I think I'd have to almost go with Time Warner
Cable because for 15 bucks I can have 50 megabyte
speeds down there. Which is more than... you
know here considering because i'll be living
in the dallas area which is expensive to live
in yeah all right well so you said you can get
50 meg speeds down there for 15 bucks a month
on time order yeah hold on a second here because
that just seems kind of all kinds of wrong but
well i heard i don't know where she found it
but she found something too where you can get
um uh Is it's um Like super high speed it's like
gigabit internet speeds right for pretty decent
Well as a time Warner cable customer here in
Louisville, Kentucky. I can tell you Even if
I call them to get the promotion price thing
Currently my standard charges for my services
That I have monthly services time -owner cable
from oh, I'm still why am I it says I'm still
on the promotion, but it's $79 .99 so basically
They See promotion includes extreme internet
voicemail home phone national includes unlimited
local long -distance yes, Canada, so apparently
They upgraded my package without me even knowing
it. I'm paying. Wow, this is horrible. I am paying
$79 .99 a month for 50 meg. And then it says
ultimate 300 upgrade for $50. They're charging
me $140 a month for internet. And I'm like, wait,
what? I know I'm not getting those speeds. I
know I'm not. There's no way. Because I would
have known or they would have called me to tell
me that oh, hey We're we're upgrading your package
and normally you have to actually call them and
tell them. Hey, I'd like you to upgrade my package
I have not called them to say the last one when
I set up the the computer and the internet stuff
here originally, I went to 50 Meg Because I figured
oh that you know, there was a deal going on Yeah,
currently my upload is between 60 and 75 So I
don't know why that's saying that I have the
ultimate 300 upgrade. I'm gonna Wow, thanks,
dude You're talking about time Warner in Texas
makes me have to now call them tomorrow to figure
out why the hell they're charging me what they're
charging me Yeah, thanks mr. NBC Where's Townsend
Coleman when you really need him? No idea so
yeah, I I'm I don't know I'm I'm looking forward
to that to the change, but I'm not at the same
time Well, you know you guys I get to telecommute
from now until yeah, you know next year, so I'm
excited about that Yeah, I'm not excited about
really moving down there, but I get it. Yeah
Yeah. You guys have looked into schools and everything
for Ian, right? Or is he not in school yet? He's
not in school, but we're going to home school.
Oh, okay. Yeah, that's right. To which, if you
say that to anyone, that's like... older than
our generation they're like oh that's wrong you
shouldn't do that because they're not getting
socialized they're not getting in our modern
day like schooling and what the hell wants to
be in modern day schooling i barely and that's
my point because of all the garbage that they
teach kids now and all of the you know the the
inputted beliefs like i we have our own like
we're we go to church so i mean like We have
certain viewpoints and beliefs. I would never
push them on somebody else. Right. Because it's
not right. Yeah. And it's not right for anybody
to push their beliefs on somebody else. It doesn't
matter who it is. Right. Exactly. I keep it to
myself. I don't, you know, I don't try and push
it anyways. So I don't believe in certain aspects
of what the schools teach now. Plus I know coming
from and having us talk about the bullying thing
in the past and especially with cyberbullying
and the way that kids do it over the internet
now, which is why I'm not letting my kid have
full -blown internet access. Same token, I'm
also wanting him at home because I was picked
on so bad that the thoughts crossed my mind.
I never would do it because I have this, I guess
I'm unique in the sense that I have this strong
mental capacity where I know that everything
is like a giant mind battle. And I am one of
those people that I'm determined to win anything
that's put in front of my path. So being that
it's put in front of my path, I'm like, I'm not
going to lose to these fools. Which is why as
a kid I also snapped on the bus after years of
being tormented. I would never kill anybody,
but I'd just beat the crap out of them when I
was a kid. You'd pull a Ralphie on him from Christmas
Story. I did actually do that once. I felt horrible
afterward. We've got people at church though
that they can socialize with. Yeah, that's good.
For me with school, it wasn't until I got to
high school that I really... It wasn't until
my junior and senior year of high school that
I really enjoyed it. But I mean, middle school
and early high school, I just did not enjoy it.
Elementary school, I loved it. Yes, I got picked
on every day and that part of it kind of sucked.
But as far as just being in the school and just,
you know, having to, you know, get up every morning,
go to a school and, you know, and, you know,
I think I've said this before on this. It might've
been a couple of weeks ago. I don't remember.
I might've told you off air, you know, my aunt
and uncle. robert and debbie they're now divorced
from each other and she's married somebody else
but they're three kids rachel robin cassie before
of us are like the four musketeers essentially
when we were all growing up and they were all
rachel was in public school or private school
or something or other but robin cassie were were
pretty much home schooled for the most part and
uh... it has its advantages i mean i I can see
the point of sometimes not having a socialization
aspect, but like you said, you know, you've got
people at church and church activities and all
that other stuff in this. There's plenty of other
activities that you can get your kids involved
in without having to be in a public or private
school. So as far as my life changes, as I said
last week at the end of last week's show, and
everyone should know this by now, it's been about
a year, year and a half since my mom passed,
so that was a... you know, pretty daunting thing.
Since then, I've been, you know, I don't want
to say cultivating, but that's the only word
I can think of. But I've been in an online relationship
with my now fiance, Jennifer. So I'm going out
there for California Christmas. So I'll be out
in California for about a month for the holidays
this year. And I'm, you know, as long as I don't
see why anything wouldn't go as well as it's
already been going. So Next year. I may end up
moving out there. So my plan for GCR in in The
coming months in the coming year here is I'm
gonna be doing a lot of Pre -production and getting
a lot of stuff done to be ready in case I'm you
know in case life takes over That's one thing
I've always said with podcasting to anybody whether
I'm hosting whether you're hosting whether we've
got guests or whatever If they can't make a record
or if they can't do they can't participate because
of a life event life happens life is more important
than podcasting so now that and i know this is
kind of sad to say but it's it's more funny to
me than sad now that i actually have a life you
know to actually juggle more things and you know
it's gonna be a whole new adventure um i've got
several things planned for next year we both
do and and uh it's gonna be a fun new adventure
for for me and for you know what what what you
and mary and the kids are doing as well yep definitely
fun scary at times for you but you know hey it's
an adventure Yeah, I'm I'm definitely scared
about moving I've moved more times than I can
count on my fingers folks Yeah, I've moved a
lot too, but not out of state. Yeah So that's
why I'm kind of like So, yeah I probably in the
future will tell what I'm working for or who
I'm working for but yeah, you don't yeah, it's
not important now It's just hey, you've got a
whole new opportunity a whole new Job a whole
different job than the job you're currently doing
and mind you anything I say does not reflect
the opinions of the media company I work for
right I actually have to hit There's actually
NDAs now that I'm bound by there you go So there
are certain topics here on the GCR and especially
alter geek that will probably never be talked
about again President -elect Donald Trump included
Yeah, there's there's reasons for everything
I can't go into any detail, but anyway, so Yeah
But playing the crap out of some battlefield
for lately don't have any money to buy battlefield
one Found out the website host decided that they're
not giving anybody discounts anymore Which I
thought was a crack Yeah, they're like, oh So
yeah, we they sent me what what my yearly bill
would be and I'm like, um Why is it going up?
They're like, oh, yeah, we discontinued the two
months free thing that we've been doing for the
last like 10 15 years Like oh, thanks. Yeah,
cuz go daddy owns them. Oh great Yeah, they bought
them out like three years ago, which is why go
daddy bought media temple. Yeah. Oh Holy I knew
they bought him out. I just that explains why
I like all the statistics stuff went to junk
and all of the Interface changed and why the
pricing has gone to crap and so Damn that sucks
Yeah, I knew that, though, but that's why, like,
the site runs like crap sometimes, like, is cause,
um... Yeah. I'm not particularly thrilled, but...
Yeah, what are you gonna do? What are you gonna
do? Cause, let's face it, we've tried in the
past to go to various different hosts and things,
and it's never worked out, and we've always returned
to Media Temple! So, uh, we had the Supermoon
this past week. I don't know if you heard about
it. Yeah, I heard about it. Or bothered to look
at it. I didn't care. I've been enjoying the
fact that people have been taking pictures of
the Supermoon, which is actually a tortilla stuck
to the window. And they're calling it a Supermoon
because it does look like a Supermoon if it weren't
for the fact that there's no, like, hue around
it. The tortilla does look like a moon. And somebody
thought it was funny on that same geeky fact
or crap page to take the tortilla in the background.
And they took a picture of the Millennium Falcon
where Obi -Wan, Luke, and Han are saying, that's
no moon, that's a battle cruiser. Or battle,
you know, that's a whatever. But it says, that's
no moon, it's a tortilla. Yeah, they superimposed
over the death star the tortilla so it looks
funny. That's hilarious There's also another
At that same page it says Star was quote quotes
not to make during sex Says what a piece of junk
aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper
You came in here came in here, and you didn't
have a plan for getting out into the garbage
chute flyboy. This is red 5 I'm going in Now
let's blow this thing and go home. I've got a
very bad feeling about this It's on the same
page, I'm sorry I can't help it came across he's
like it's like meme Monday type of thing like
I'm like Which I may actually start doing on
the website like at some point like start just
posting reposting memes Like on a little section
of the sidebar just because it'd be funny It's
gonna think of something cuz we have like the
top ten Tuesday We're gonna be they have the
meme Monday. Yeah, we can do me Monday I'm really
interested to see what what everyone comes up
with like for like possibilities for Wednesday
Thursday and Friday Well Thursday, I've already
got its throwback Thursday. I just know I just
haven't cultivated it yet So wacky Wednesday
we could do wacky Wednesday and post some weird
wacky thing So and then face palm Friday there
you go that works All right, so wait a second
here, we got We got meme Monday you got Top ten
Tuesday We got Wacky Wednesday Throwback Thursday
and facepalm Friday. That's yeah, that's a good
weekly schedule Let's see sizzling Saturday and
I ain't doing nothing on the weekend Steve clocks
out I'm not saying we have to do like you could
do it the week of the That weekend and then just
post it on the weekend. You don't have to actually
work on it on the weekend So, what else is going
on? I'm trying to think here off the top of my
head. I can't think of anything else. Oh, I'll
say this. One thing I mentioned earlier on various
other episodes of this is that I like being in
the know of what's going on in the world, but
I find myself on Facebook hiding and blocking
every single page that has anything to do with
any conspiracy theories about this damn election.
I'm not going to get into the politics of it
anything, so I know we don't want to go there.
I'm just saying. Well, for me, I've been just
removing pages because I'm done. Yeah. It's done.
Yep. People just need to move on. In these people
saying it's not mine blah blah blah. It's like
not me. He is yours Otherwise, you're technically
a terrorist because you're having treason. Well,
yeah, let's not go there cuz so I that's all
I'm leaving Yeah, it's like I'm not saying you
have to like the guy cuz like to honestly like
there hasn't been one I've enjoyed since you
know and ever But people just need to get over
it and they hate it vote him out Yep, there's
four more years and then same thing with all
of his cronies that are in Service right now.
Yeah, two years and you can vote them out, too.
Yep Let's see here Microsoft what the hell is
Microsoft doing now? Oh Microsoft joins the Linux
Foundation How is this for a surprise Microsoft
today announced that it is joining the Linux
Foundation as a high -paying platinum member
This may come as a surprise Good Lord. Danny
DeVito, Mr. Penguin from Batman Returns and Throw
Momma from the Train and all that stuff is 72
years old today. Wow. Yep. He's old. Yep. iPhone
8. The new iPhone 8 models again for Shadow just
one OLED. So there's that. Stephen Hawking, what
the heck is he doing? Still sitting in a chair?
Sorry. Damn dude, that's a low blow even for
you. Hey, he's got practice. Wow. That's even
worse, man. You said he's got a low blow. God!
Sorry, I couldn't help it. You've been hanging
around Dodd too much. Actually, I haven't. I
know. Stephen Hawking doubts humanity will survive
another 1 ,000 years. Yeah, if he's saying that,
technically, according to the Bible, it's not
gonna anyway. Yeah. That's the funny thing that
I enjoy about science. They don't know, and then
they... Try and make up these things to make
themselves important When in actuality they still
never know Like the world's been around 65 million
years and now they've come to the conclusion.
It's been around 6 ,000. Yep which is Actually
in tune with the Bible. Yeah Which is what makes
it hilarious to me Because if science is agreeing
now, it must be true I know you hate that red
fruit entitled Apple, but I find this... Is it
red? Well, it's red, it's orange, it's blue,
it's green, it's purple, it's multic. It's whatever
color it needs to be. Can I say I'm racist against
a company? I don't know. Because it changes colors
a lot. I don't even want to get into that. No.
Okay, so again, I'm trying to just kind of...
briefly bring up various like headlines and things
like that without having us having to talk about
actual news stories and one of the headlines
under the science and technology one on facebook
uh... the apple app store the purge has begun
apple deleted forty seven thousand apps from
the app store in october of this year what they
don't tell you is a drunk employee was doing
it for fun how about this one Twitter's Android
TV app to stream videos now available. Earlier
this year, Twitter launched a new version of
its app for digital media players. Apple TV,
Amazon Fire TV, and for Microsoft's video game
console Xbox One, allowing users to see live
streaming video available on Twitter. That's
interesting. So... I get to watch more of the
same people I watch on YouTube on Twitter now?
I... I don't know the logistics. Because they
do it on Facebook too. I understand the demographic
uses of it. I think I've gotten to that age where
I just don't care about new social media advances
because I'm content with where Twitter is at
right now and I'm content with Facebook even
though I hate it. Google Plus might as well not
exist. YouTube is my other stomping ground. Facebook's
decent for when I want to see stuff that people
I know are posting about. And then Twitter's
where I get to get all of my news. Whereas they
say that most people get their news from Facebook,
I find that most of my news on Facebook is click
bait and fake. Whereas if I go on Twitter and
I'm following certain organizations, I actually
get stuff that's actually filtered to what I
follow and it's actually legit. How about this
one? Samsung Galaxy S8 expected to have pressure
sensitive display. So basically you press down
too hard it explodes. I was gonna make that same
joke. So it's like a pressure cooker. The more
heat you put on it the faster it blows. So let
me guess with the iPhone 8 they're gonna add
one more feature and then sell it like it's a
new phone. Huh. Well, that's what they do every
phone. They add one new feature. They change
one thing, and then they sell the new phone.
It's like this big extravagant change in phone
history, and it's not. Very true. Yeah, for me,
what I love about Facebook outside of the trending
news articles, and even though I have to search
for actual legitimate sources, in those trending
articles. I love the memories. I know Twitter
has moments, but I love the memories aspect of
Facebook because like today when we're recording
this on the 17th of November, 2016, it gave me
a memory of three years ago when I uploaded the
TFG2 podcast coming September 17th, 2014. Trust
me, folks, we'll get to it eventually. I know
I've been promising this for years, but we will
get to it eventually. There's a whole new plan
that we're not going to reveal just yet. So I
found that interesting that that popped up. And
I know I've been saying that, oh my god, it needs
to be Thanksgiving before Christmas. But again,
Christmas just kind of overruns everything. And
it goes from Halloween to Christmas. No one even
cares about Thanksgiving anymore. Another one
that popped up from two years ago little girl
joins Santa Claus for breakfast because she doesn't
want him eating all by himself This was awesome
at the time like this is 2014 when I saw this
and this was a very very cool one It was just
so fun How about Unicron eating the Death Star
that was from two years ago. It's an image of
Unicron Basically engulfing the Death Star. That's
kind of fun How about this one? There's two dogs
I don't wanna know where it goes from there.
No, no, no! No, it's not two girls in a cup,
dude. It's two - No, I said two stupid dogs.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. There's what
looks to be like a Golden Retriever and a German
Shepherd. They both have signs on them. The Golden
Retriever one says, I ate an elf on a shelf.
And the German Shepherd says, I helped because
he is creepy. How about since we're talking about
holidays and I kind of want to end the show after
this Talking about what we're thankful for since
this will be released before Thanksgiving And
I think we ought to take a break for Thanksgiving
week unless you want to actually record early
next week I'm kind of of the same opinion. I
start my new job Monday. Yeah Yeah, so I'm not
really looking forward to recording anything
per se that's saying I won't do something because
who knows I may do like a YouTube video I may
not yeah just kind of depends on how things go
but right yeah okay I was going to say, I'm probably
going to take a break. Yeah, just for a week.
Just until Thanksgiving's over and that kind
of stuff. And like you said, you've got to get
acclimated to the new job. So again, going to
the Facebook memories thing from a year ago,
our good buddy Star Joe's Chuck from the Star
Joe's podcast with Ryan Drossens and Chuck. He
posted various holidays from Halloween to Valentine's
Day. Halloween equals candy, Thanksgiving equals
food, Christmas equals gifts, New Year's equals
drinks, Valentine's equals sex, your birthday
equals all of the above. Why isn't there a button
that says yes, please? Maybe you'd probably punch
me if I said that. uh... and i think how we ought
to close this out since we did have a little
bit more personal touch uh... we should probably
talk about what we're thankful for since this
is going to be the thanksgiving weather thanksgiving
kinda episode for altered geeks so mister steven
c phillips what are you thankful for this year
sir scotch no i'm joking i don't agree uh...
No, I'm thankful for you know, good health, you
know the family being happy new opportunities
Albeit scarier than all can be And you know just
just life in general and getting to Pretty much
do everything I wanted to accomplish this year.
Mm -hmm for the most part Yeah, absolutely. For
me, I am thankful for, as you said, good health.
What I've noticed is, I go to almost all of the
events that my apartment complex has, whether
it's a medical insurance company coming in and
doing bingo or ... you know things like that
are you know just they have all these events
i'm very thankful for all and i'm thankful for
all the people have met in the building because
it is about ten or twelve of us that all kind
of come down and kind of commiserate and everything
else the community room thankful that thankful
for my girlfriend slash fiance slash future wife
jennifer she's amazing uh... and i'm just thankful
to still be podcasting after all that audio issue
bull crap that happened uh... it's taking some
adjustment for me, but I'm back in the swing
of things. Oh, that was the thing I wanted to
update everybody on. Last episode or the episode
before, 163, I think I said, I had about 15 or
so or 35 or so podcasts to edit. i think it was
last weekend or the weekend before uh... friday
that friday night i had just really bad about
a depression so i just went to bed to sleep it
off because it's just the best way for me to
be able to just get out of that funky mood and
uh... saturday morning i woke up and i'm like
okay i'm gonna get my goal for the day is to
get five podcasts edited that saturday i got
three edited which didn't exactly meet the goal
but hey three is better than none sunday i got
five edited by monday i had I basically edited
11 podcasts in about three and a half days. So
I've made major progress there. I've gotten all
kinds of stuff ready for Powers of Grayskull
and the Phineas and Ferb Show podcast organizational
article acronym. And just absolutely loving getting
all that done now and ready for when I'm not
here, when I'm on vacation. Last thing I'll bring
up before you close it out is something I posted
to you on Twitter. You didn't really I know Steve
is not a fan of The Voice, and I understand that,
but Season 11 of The Voice is currently going
on. They have a contestant on there by the name
of Darby Walker. Ever since her blind audition,
which is the first thing to allow them to get
on the show, I know this girl from somewhere.
Where have I seen her before? Turns out she is
Darby, the character Darby, the girl that's in
the classroom with Yogi. on girl meets world
they were background she was a background character
in girl meets world until she started speaking
up and they gave her an actual they actually
basically named her after herself and yeah that
was hilarious i thought that was really fun so
nice yep all right you uh gonna close it out
i guess yep so uh Hope you enjoyed this episode.
Have a happy Thanksgiving and as always get altered
get geeky with the altered geeks gobble gobble
That's just wrong
