About this Episode

We discuss the growing issue of spoiler culture surrounding major releases like Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones, emphasizing the importance of respecting other people's experiences. We also share impressions of playing Mortal Kombat 11 and Persona 5. Finally, we look at early details regarding the PlayStation 5, rumors about Google Stadia, and the impressive de-aging technology seen in the trailer for the film Gemini Man.

Hey, this is Steve blue and you are listening

to the geek cast radio network You are tuned

in to Steve Megatron on altered geek Hello and

welcome to Altered geek I'm your host Steve Megatron

Phillips and joining me on this endeavor into

the great beyond that speak them Mike the bird

man dud who has a hovercraft full of eels That's

a running gag this week if you listen to nerds

of the third power. That's funny. I remember

when I rebuilt their website and they've never

used it. They rejoined Twig. Oh, well, all works

out in the end. It all comes out in the wash.

Yeah, they came back home. The website still

works, but yeah, it's funny. So yeah, for those

that are following, this is also simulcasting

on Twitch. So yeah, if people want to listen

live, otherwise it's live on the podcast feeds

on Fridays. Ooh. Yes. So you get it like three

days early. Well, ain't you goddamn special.

Holy shit. I am. Yeah, just like a couple of

weeks ago, I did a live stream of I played Pokemon

Yellow and then I switched to because I have

my OBS streaming software set up to have different

scenes and I had all these games like pre set

up like emulation wise and I switched to my Sega

Genesis one and played Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

the movie and beat the whole game during this

session. So and then I played Streets of Rage

So, yeah, that was fun So It's been a while It

has been I have been incredibly busy with stuff

with twig. I've been trying to get the Cambridge

Chronicles crew together. It's just schedules

have been so misaligned this last in a while

due to some of my guys work schedules like he'll

work days and then randomly he'll get a weekend

off but he has family obligations and it's not

him. My other co -host, he's got a wedding coming

up so he has to get ready for that with his brother.

So it's been kind of hectic and chaotic. So that's

a little bit of behind the scenes there. Hopefully

we're going to get some stuff done this week,

because now that we record almost exclusively

over Discord, we're discovering if we can't get

together to play, we can just play over the server

and the audio quality is actually better than

it is in person, which is really a surprise.

Other than that, I've been Playing some games

for review right now. Funny story. So my wife

wanted to get me something for our anniversary,

which is coming up in July. And I said I wanted

Mortal Kombat 11. I didn't know whether I was

going to get the game for review. So normally

PR companies send me games for review. I get

them for free, party on, I get them early. I

wasn't supposed to get Mortal Kombat 11. So I

went out and got the collector's edition from

her my anniversary. My wife's like, hey happy

anniversary It's just coming early a party on

um So yeah today rolls around Hey Mike, here's

your Mortal Kombat 11 code Cool, you couldn't

have told me this yesterday and save me some

money But that does mean that there now are two

people reviewing the game on the site. So that's

a bit of that'll be interesting i'm actually

currently playing through it right now literally

before we were recording i'm about halfway through

the through the story mode uh right now which

is really cool featuring chronica and timelines

colliding since the 2000 i think it was 2009

mortal kombat reboot on the playstation 3 um

really really good game series i'm actually really

impressed by it so far um also days gone and

the police are Going by my house. So that's fun

I Played Power Rangers battle for the grid. Don't

buy that game I've gone into many impassioned

rants on twig about that What else have I been

playing? Oh This game does eat my life and I've

talked about it on multiple podcasts. This will

be the last time I talk about it till I beat

the damn thing persona five By atlas software

this JRPG. I've put 70 hours into it in the last

week I'm about halfway through it. That's how

big this son of a bitch is so I'm loving it.

I even had an artist on Facebook do draw rather

a portrait of me from the from the in -game chat

engines. I look like I'm participating in the

chat conversations. So that's really cool. It's

one of the best JRPGs I've ever played, probably

one of the best games I've ever played. I'm playing

through it on stupid easy because I just want

to see the story and the story has me gripped.

It's got a romance option. I have my girl, which

is on. I'm dating her now, though the other girls

are just as interesting and I'm kind of sad I

can't date them because they'll find out I'm

cheating on them on Valentine's Day. So we're

not going to do that because monogamy for certain

people is OK. And then, yeah, other than that.

I don't think what else is to cast the altered

geek listeners up to. Oh, I found out I'm getting

some new toys from Hasbro. They're going to be

sending me the Overwatch collection. Since I

love Overwatch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, they're

sending me Sombra and they're sending me Pharah.

And I'm really looking forward to reviewing these

figures. They're my two mains in the game. I

love playing Pharah and I love playing Sombra.

Sombra is Bay. I love her character design so

much and Thera in her Thunderbird outfit. I've

bought it when the game first came out. I've

never changed that skin because it looks just

so badass. So yeah, that's pretty much what's

been going on with me other than some movie and

DVD reviews. That's pretty much been my life

since the last Altered Geek. Nice, nice. Yeah,

I've been having fun watching everybody complain

about internet spoilers in movies, no matter

what it may be. And like the two hottest things

online right now are Star Wars Episode IX and

Avengers Endgame. And just based on your thoughts

of seeing the trailer for Episode IX, what do

you think about seeing like the blown up Death

Star on Endor? uh and then um or wherever it

may be and uh the palpatine bit well it's either

on yavin 4 because yavin was a gas giant so or

if it's on endor endor was also a gas giant so

it would be the forest mood of endor hi star

wars nerd here uh it wouldn't surprise me if

they're gonna steal some stuff from the eu where

they had the clone palpatine Sort of thing because

there was a thing where I think the series was

called Dark Dark Empire. I think it was So yeah,

I wouldn't be surprised if they're stealing some

stuff out of that playbook in which case I'm

totally cool with though. I would much rather

seen the Timothy's on Thrawn trilogy brought

to life as opposed to what we got with these

new saga. I don't even know what the hell we're

calling these new three movies because there

was the prequels, the original saga and then

blank. I don't know. I truly told I wasn't blown

away by the teaser. It was like, OK, Ray jumps

over a tie interceptor. Lando's looking real

old here. There's a Death Star, I think. See,

I don't even remember that. It was a Death Star.

It was the one with Palpatine in it. Oh, so yeah,

it would have been on the Forrest Moon of Endor

then. So, I'm like, okay, sure. That's a thing.

Honestly, I was more interested for the stuff

for the Mandalorian that came out of Star Wars

Celebration. See that I didn't even really care

all that much for her But that's I think it's

because I'm more invested in the films and I

just at this point doesn't matter for the other

side of it Until there's nothing more with the

films, which they're gonna be taking a break.

So they say Yeah until they realize hey guys

these movies make money But yeah, I'm kind of

looking forward to seeing what They do with episode

9 considering that they're having the Emperor

returned to some capacity, whether it's through

body hopping or clone technology, or there's

been some insinuation that he may have purposely

taken over the body of Snoke at one point and

then body hopped to Kylo. Snoke was such a lame

bad guy to begin with. Honestly, Snoke and Count

Dooku and Darth Maul, basically anybody who wasn't

Vader and Palpatine has been such short chains

as villains. Even Kylo Ren, he just looks cool.

There's no background to a real ear like, OK,

he's Han Solo's kid. Whoopie doo. Honestly, that

was done better in the Expanded Universe books

where he was known as Ben Solo or Jason's or

yeah, I think it was Ben that went nuts in the

EU. And became Darth Tyrannus. No, that was Dooku.

Either way, it was done better in Star Wars Legends,

I think. I don't know, the whole Yuuzhan Vong

war thing was pretty friggin stupid. I think

we're going to find out that maybe Rey is...

Sidious's kid? Or Obi -Wan Kenobi's? I think

that he's they're going to show that she's the...

you know, unspoken of twin of Ben Solo. See,

I'd be OK with that. I don't know, because they

like to play with the half truths thing. And

so like they're they're kind of they're even

insinuating that, you know, Palpatine technically

isn't Palpatine. Mm hmm. They're they're even

saying that he was he was because he told, you

know, everything in Star Wars is from a certain

point of view, even Obi Wan says it, you know,

and in Palpatine, you know, says that when he's

talking to Anakin and So he tells the story of,

you know, Darth Plagueis and kind of mentions

that. And so if Plagueis figured out how to swap

bodies or, you know, take over another body,

then technically he could do that. And that's,

you know, they're saying that that could be a

reason of how Palpatine actually came to be is

because, you know, the apprentice taking over

the apprentice's body and. you know, body hopping

for, you know, more powerful beings. And so that's

why like Anakin was being groomed to be more

powerful. And then that kind of backfired when

he got robo legs and arms. And so I don't know

how much of that is true, but it's kind of funny

that they are starting to bring that up. And

then they're also kind of saying that the Grey

Jedi or the new order of the Jedi is basically

the Skywalker. Yeah, I mean it's gonna be interesting

to see how this all plays out. I mean We'll start

to see major leaks come out later on this year

I mean hell one of the best sources of leaks

for stuff is Lego sets of all things Yeah, now

look at Avengers endgame and you'll see that

too Yeah, and we're gonna be talking a little

bit about that today talking about the the culture

of the spoiler Because you can talk about it

from Avengers endgame from Game of Thrones Etc.

Etc. And it's just been one of those things that's

popped up recently and it's time to have a conversation

about it in both good and bad like how you Respect

it. So there won't be any spoilers in this episode

so to speak except for stuff that's like 10 years

old, because you've had 10 years. Shut up. So

but nothing for more current stuff like Game

of Thrones or Avengers Endgame. So I guess we'll

kind of jump into that topic, because as you

guys know, with the Internet, nothing is secret,

at least for very long with Pastebin, 4chan,

Reddit. et cetera, et cetera. A couple of weeks

back, or about a week ago anyway, someone at

a screening in Dubai, we think, leaked some pretty

major moments from Avengers Endgame, had it posted

up on YouTube and Instagram and Dropbox and posted

it on Reddit for people to see and it spoiled

and revealed some pretty major moments. for the

movie. And I'm pretty sure somebody at Disney

got a phone call in the middle of the night saying,

Hey guys, um, shit. Um, and dealt with that.

And then most recently, uh, game of Thrones episode

two, uh, was leaked six hours early on Amazon

prime. And hell, even the first episode, uh,

winter fell was yanked off the web server by

hackers 15 minutes into the premiere. And even

that episode alone was pirated over 54 million

times across the world. Ten million in India,

five million in China, not including the 17 million

that watched it in the United States alone. So

it's time to have a conversation about spoilers

and the etiquette thereof, because I remember

this first coming up with people talking about

spoilers for Walking Dead. which like, ooh, don't

spoil what happens to me. And then there was

breaking bad spoilers and then it became Game

of Thrones spoilers. And then movies started

picking up a thing with the whole Marvel thing

with don't spoil the end credits scene and stuff

like that. And with Avengers, Infinity War, it

really picked up steam with people saying, well,

what's gonna happen? Who lives, who dies? And

people really got invested with it. I can't think

of many other movies where people get that invested

as out of maybe Harry Potter, but the books told

everything that was going to happen anyway. I

guess if you read the comics, you know, but the

comics for the MCU stuff, it's based upon very

loose ideas and general plot lines in those comics.

They're never a straight up adaptation of the

particular storylines. So where do we go from

here? It's kind of difficult to say because for

something like, uh, Snape kills Dumbledore, but

with a noble motive. Um, okay. That happened

in back 2000 and like 11 or something or some

shit like that. It was, it was a while ago. Yeah.

Cause I remember I went to go see Deathly Hollows

part two for my bachelor party. So I've been

married about seven or eight years now. So something

like that. You sound like me for my bachelor

party. I went and saw Star Trek 2009. Yeah, I

went to go see Harry Potter and then I went to

the strippers it was awesome, uh -huh But yeah,

and then people I say oh don't spoil how it ends

like well, you know, the good guys are gonna

win But at the same time for those who haven't

read the books I can see where they're coming

from because the books have been around since

the late 90s early 2000s And I remember people

like don't spoil the book online when when the

Harry Potter books started getting super super

popular and people were going the midnight launches

for them and Then like I said with the culture

of breaking bad and walking dead How do you define

spoiler like what's the accepted wait times you

wait a day do it three days you wait a week two

weeks or do you not say and anything at all and

I've noticed people doing this for attention

more so than anything they'll find a spoiler

for something I saw this on a friend of mine's

Facebook and she's like well I've already halfway

identified them so this person posted dot dot

dot spoilers and they didn't put nearly enough

asterisks so it was hidden by the Facebook thing

where it says see more and it was a major Game

of Thrones spoiler And I'm thinking, well, you're

doing that for attention or you're looking for

a fight. I'm glad you're excited for the show

because so am I. But it hasn't even the film's

not even cold, man. It hasn't even been like

half an hour. So what do you do? And I guess

I throw that question to you, Steve, is what

do you do in this era of social media and all

these websites where you can get instant gratification

to find out what's going on? See, I don't it's

kind of difficult because when you look at The

fact that we have social media that we have all

those digital Communication compared to what

we used to have It's made it so much easier to

get these leaks or this information Than it's

ever been possible in the past and I Don't know

it's kind of hard to police it unless you really

have some serious repercussions for these individuals

that are working in the industry. And I know

that they have to sign NDAs and not going to

give out any information, not going to do this

and that. But it still happens. And I'm sure

some of it's not malicious. Some of it's probably

like, hey, dude, look at this. This is awesome.

Look what we've been working on. And then that

person shares and then it gets, you know spread

worldwide and if you're kind of screwed then

but it's It's kind of difficult because on the

one hand there's really no way to keep it out

of people's hands And honestly, I'm surprised

it's taken this long to get out Like in general

Especially with like endgame for instance and

You know they've been keeping everything pretty

hush -hush on a lot of things you know whether

it's the new Star Wars and you know the whole

Palpatine thing or the you know endgame and I

don't know I guess I'm not really surprised that

this information gets out there like weeks before

it actually comes out because I remember you

know the past two Star Wars films I looked up

video and things on reddit to see exactly what

was going to happen I knew stuff from the novelizations,

which somehow sometimes those get the stores

before the movie comes out. It's a little less

problematic now, especially since Harry Potter

and stuff like that. But novelizations of major

movies, like hell, you want to find Endgame?

Hell, you find someone who works at, is Barnes

and Noble still a thing? Yeah. Amazon does their

online presence. Yeah, so if someone who worked

at a bookstore, if they want to know Endgame,

the official movie's novelization, if it's out,

you could probably find Endgame spoilers there,

for example. Because I know Star Wars. That's

how I found out what happened in The Force Awakens.

Someone was posting excerpts from the official

book. See, I just went on Reddit, and then I

searched for, you know, the Force Awakens leaks.

That's how I found it. Didn't look at it and

like I looked at anything that had like a physical

picture from the film physical video and then

I downloaded them all because in a matter of

minutes anyway, they were getting shut down constantly

and then I did the same thing for the last Jedi

and I foresee myself doing the same thing for

episode 9 and I'm not doing it with endgame because

it sadly enough when these things hit theaters

anyway, you can find them digitally, immediately.

Which is unfortunate for the studio, but 90 %

of the internet is gonna go see it in theater

anyhow, despite whether they see a spoiler or

not. Yeah, some people are gonna get butt -hurt

on social media, but ultimately it's not gonna

really make that big of a difference. Because

people are still gonna want to see it in the

big screen because you get that that presence

and besides that you don't even know they could

be Misdirecting with some of the footage. That's

on reddit Yeah, like you just get yeah, yeah,

sorry you don't know and You don't know what

what's a real leak? What's a fake leak? Hell?

I've read three or four different versions of

Avengers endgame right now I'm trusting the ones

that came out of the Hollywood screening last

night Yeah, I've I've been kind of I think it's

hilarious when these sites write these you know

no spoiling review, and it's like okay well You

know that's kind of what they should have been

anyway, but You know to get people to want to

see the movie, but either way like I'm not a

person that cares about spoilers So to me, honestly,

it doesn't really matter I would prefer like

it always drove certain people nuts that they're

like, why do you want to know what happens in

the end of the movie? I'm like so that I know

what I'm having to build mentally on the way

there I'm impatient. That's why with me I just

I want to know what the movie is building up

to. Otherwise, I feel like I'm wasting time if

there's a misdirection. And at least then it

puts me on the path of what's going to happen.

Yeah, like for me, for example, I seek out Game

of Thrones spoilers specifically so I can be

emotionally ready. because that show hits you

in the feel something fierce sometimes sometimes

it's oh Man, that happens my favorite character

or oh, no, this is gonna happen I can't watch

or you know, there's some brutal violence coming

up and you're just like oh What am I gonna do

here? And I just kind of do it as that just to

be ready Like, like you said, to mentally psych

yourself up for it. And with Avengers Endgame,

frankly, it's impatience. I want to know so badly.

I'm willing to have a moment spoiled for him

because you know what? It's not spoiling for

me. It's getting me excited for it. Like, I actually

said this to my wife tonight. Man, I can't wait

until Thursday. Maybe I'll just... If I stay

up really, really, really, really, really late

working, I'll sleep, a crap ton, I'll get up,

work a crap ton, play the game that I have to

review, go back to sleep, and then magically,

hey, it's Thursday, I'll be good, I'll be good,

good, good to go. And I'm... Literally counting

the hours. Hell, because I'm handicapped, I have

to book a mobility taxi. I called the taxi company

today to book the taxi just to make sure I was

gonna be there on time. Like, I'm a child on

Christmas. I'm just ludicrously, I'm five according

to my wife. I'm a giant toddler. It's hard for

me to be surprised or excited, but for something

like Infinity, or sorry, like Endgame, I have

to know. This is something I've waited 10 years

to see. And I'm not ready to say goodbye, but

I'm just super excited for it regardless. Yeah,

I mean, one, If you've watched anything with

it like you're probably super invested mm -hmm

and To like even if you didn't like certain aspects

of some of the films You're still gonna want

to know how the entire storyline played out.

Yeah, exactly I mean I've been with this franchise

for what 22 movies now um I gotta know how it

ends It's surprising it's been that many movies

to be honest, but in like I would say about half

of them have been actually good I'd go three

-quarters of them. But yeah, there's been some

hits and misses. Yeah, there's there's been quite

a few I haven't cared for but Yeah, I mean I'm

looking to see how they they they do away with

Thanos at the end of this and I know that there's

a lot of time travel timey -wimey stuff kind

of playing in some of the other playgrounds of

different Avengers films So which that's nothing

nobody, you know already didn't know But it'll

be interesting to see how they actually take

it out At the end of it and I'm not really honestly

that surprised with some of the stuff. I've read

if it's true Although that does kind of bring

up a more interesting fact the fact that the

Russo brothers and other directors are following

this suit. They're shooting footage specifically

for the trailers to misdirect people so they

can't do spoilers. The most famous example of

this that I can think of was in the Avengers

Infinity War trailer. They had all them running

towards the camera in Wakanda and they had the

Hulk there. The Hulk wasn't in Wakanda. Sure,

he was in the Hulkbuster armor, but that was

Dr. Banner. That wasn't the Hulk all fully green

and mean. that was shot for the trailer specifically.

So misdirection is another thing to take into

consideration of spoiler culture. And the Russias

have openly said some stuff you see in the trailer

will not be in the final movie. We've removed

actors from scenes and these scenes. Anything

in the end game or the the end game trailers,

rather, is only from the first 15, 20 minutes

of the movie. And that certainly says something.

That they can cut a trailer from just that little

but then again, this is a three -hour epic and

that's something to say about About the Marvel

Cinematic Universe This is gonna be an actual

epic. This is not just a movie. This is like

This may be overstating and I'm sure someone

will get pissy at this. This is like the cinematic

equivalent of Ben -Hur Now or the modern -day

Lawrence of Arabia. A lot of people are calling

this all already a masterpiece and I'm not comparing

Endgame to those two previous Cinematic Masterpieces

because they're on a different level altogether.

My point I'm trying to make is It's an event

film. I Read something today where AMC theaters

or some of them will be staying open 24 -7 to

show Endgame That's huge. I've never heard of

a movie ever doing that before. I remember theaters

would stay open the show. Showings of Titanic.

I remember when Avatar was a huge thing, but

I can't remember anything that's made this much

of a cultural impact in like 20 years instead

of maybe Harry Potter. You could make an argument

for the Twilight movies, but not on the same

level. Like basically where people are ravenous

to find out what happens next. And like I said,

it's leading to that conversation of, well, what

do we do now about people that are willing to

wreck the experience for others? Because the

Russo's even penned a letter. It says, don't

spoil end game. It's like a hashtag on Twitter

right now, I think. And I don't know what you

do about it other than go into social media exile,

which in this connected world, Sure, you can,

but then you're cutting yourself off from your

friends and family and I don't know how viable

that is either, so. Yeah, I mean, I've seen people

that have put filters on their social media.

I know of people that do this. I honestly just

don't care. Yeah. And I follow enough people

that there's enough stuff going down my feet.

I normally don't see anything related to Marvel.

It's mostly track. Yeah with me I see everything

because I have like 4 ,000 something followers

on Twitter. I've got something like 2 ,000 on

Facebook So I've got a pretty wide cross -section

of people and I'm bound to see something So,

you know what? I gave up that dream of not being

able to see anything Sure, I could mute certain

words, but I'm not gonna go through the effort.

I mean I was upset in The Walking Dead when I

found out a certain character died back in season

four or five, I think, and someone spoiled it

for me on Facebook. Hell, even AMC spoiled it.

I can't remember what season it was, but they

were like, goodbye, Beth. And Beth is a character.

Sorry if you haven't caught up on Walking Dead

by now. Not my fault. Not my problem. She dies

pretty early on, but how she died was kind of

a shock. And AMC within 12 minutes had a thing

up on Facebook where it says, goodbye, Beth,

we will remember you or whatever. And people

were pissed at that. And I got the thing. And

people on the West Coast have got to have it

rough. Because we see everything here on the

East Coast first I know that's gonna be terrible

because it's like it's always like an hour or

two like buffer between Yeah, we're sitting there

just live tweeting everything exactly and that

sucks because especially in this era of Game

of Thrones and shit like that like people get

pissed. I've seen people and friendships over

this Like I've seen a lot of people get mad at

each other even people that we podcast with or

have in the past like they've gotten mad at like

Blanchard for posting something or like Like

I've always been pretty decently careful not

posting anything until after like I'll make like

the most vaguest possible Commentary of something

like what was it? When when the finale for You

know Trek discovery, and I can say exactly what

I wrote because it's not, it's not spoilery.

You know, I said it was the best of discovery

so far. You know, it's really, you know, Pike,

there's nothing new of this, but Pike was always

signed on for just one season. So it's not, it's

nothing that's out of the ordinary. And I said

it was the, you know, I'm sad that we're losing

Captain Pike and the Enterprise Crew Adventures

would like to see them get their own show too.

But, you know, we'll see. This was the most solid

season, though, and wrapped up so much to appease

and not take away in the slightest. And. That

was, you know, my overarching review without

actually giving any spoilers like after watching

it. And, you know, a lot of people agreed with

that, and and I thought that that was kind of

like the best way to say it without going in

any kind of detail until like hours after. But.

I mean, some iconic sound effects come back and

you'll see some key elements, but I can't wait

for you to finish it more so than anything else

so that I can openly talk about it on the podcast.

Yeah. I mean, I've read bits and pieces, but

I don't understand what I'm reading. Yeah. And

so once you really... The two key elements, I

really want you to take away from it because

there's a little bit of filler not... I mean,

not a ton of it, but there's a little bit of

filler in there. There's one episode that centers

around Captain Pike and getting a time crystal.

And you'll know what episode that is because

he has to go to like a like basically Klingon

world that's the Klingons don't go to like no

one is allowed to go to because they guard the

time crystals. They're like exiled Klingons that

guard it. And then the Last episode of the season

Because it's it's like a hundred and it's it's

it's not well It's like an hour and and change

in ten minutes instead of like the normal like

40 minutes Yeah, so they tacked on a little bit

extra time to it And so it's like I said, it's

it's a lot of stuff to take in but they they

actually fix Canon in the last ten minutes That's

interesting that I'm looking forward to seeing

what they actually do with this because I've

heard people say Yeah, they actually fixed it.

So I'm like, okay. Well Completely realigned

cannon and in for that reason alone, like I'm

I'm really looking forward to when you get to

get to see it Because that's that's gonna be

like kind of the key element of getting to discuss

it is the way they went about it and what happens

with the crew we've been watching for the past

two seasons and how they reconcile the rest of

the series having no recollection. So basically,

where do we go from here, so to speak? Yeah,

so we're actually getting in uncharted territory.

That's exciting, and I haven't said that about

a Star Trek series in quite some time So it'll

be interesting to see how the writers of the

next season Put things forward like you said

if they quote -unquote fixed cannon I'm more

invested in taking this taking a look at this

sooner as opposed to later So hopefully next

week when my Mortal Kombat reviews done. I'll

get a chance to dig into it I'm trying to think

of what else I can really say about a topic of

spoilers and whatnot. Obviously, don't be a douchebag.

Don't go out of your way to spoil and wreck something

for somebody. Let people consume media as they

can. Like, for example, there's some stuff in

Game of Thrones I would never spoil for someone.

Like, I want you to experience the red wedding.

If you're going in for the first time, I want

you to know that. I want you to experience episode

nine in season one, not knowing what happens.

I want you to experience that in the most...

I'm trying to think how to phrase this. The most...

unaware that you can be because it'll be more

enriching and even then you're gonna have to

watch it again to really get what the hell just

happened because I'm watching Game of Thrones

for the second time through and I missed a lot

of stuff the first time through and I'm really

starting to pick up on little things now and

now that the season's coming to an end and only

four episodes left before the series is done

I don't know what's gonna happen but I'm excited

for it but yeah obviously um there's this great

meme there's this this comic that goes around

it shows a guy shit talking something and a guy

comes in from the left panel and he puts his

fingers across the guy's lips and says shh let

people enjoy things and i think that's the big

takeaway from this is let people enjoy things

if enjoying things means spoiling it for yourself

cool you can do that that's totally because that's

how you enjoy it exactly like for like some video

games. Sometimes I play with cheats because I

want to see what happens, not to be replaying

the same section 20 friggin times over. If that's

how you enjoy it, then that's how you enjoy it.

Same with your media. If you want to consume

it knowing some key details before you actually

see the full fully realized vision, then that's

up to you. And that's fine. Don't ruin the experience

for other people. Don't. be an asshole is what

it boils down to. So speaking of that, I'm not

sure if this guy's trying to be funny or being

serious. But he does a couple of video game podcasts

and also a comedy podcast, so this could be totally

bogus. But he said he made a tweet. This is just

going to the Avengers end game premiere or something.

He works at IGN. So I don't know if this is total

BS or not But it says total Crap show everybody

had to go four hours without taking a bathroom

break break Most couldn't make it people were

running up and down the aisles just peeing themselves

one guy pooped in a popcorn bucket weirdest movie

of the year Actually, I can't wait to see what

the bathrooms are gonna be like actually a little

bit of insight into being disabled. And I hate

to admit this, but I'll share it with you, the

listeners. So going to the bathroom as a disabled

person sucks because you have to get in there.

You have to transfer off your wheelchair. I use

a power wheelchair, which means one side of my

thing doesn't come off. I think that's the side

the toilet is on. And normally. I'd be able to

pivot with both legs. Like sometimes people who

use wheelchairs, sometimes they can use their

legs, sometimes they can't. Everybody's differently

abled. That's not the point of this conversation.

Point of the matter is I can pivot mostly. So

I'm not sure whether I can use the bathroom at

our particular theater. So literally, I'm treating

going to the movies as if I'm going to the doctor's

office. That means I'm watching what I eat the

day before, I'm watching what I drink the day

before, and I'm gonna treat it as if I'm going

to the doctor's. Like, okay, it's a fasting day.

As long as I don't get into diabetic trouble,

I'm good to go. I won't have to go to the bathroom

at all. I'll worry about eating later. And that's

so I can avoid people running past my wheelchair

or shoving me out of the way, which is a possibility

to get to the bathroom after end game because

three hours and change, you better believe those

bathrooms are going to be full of people going

number one and number two. And according to Kevin

Feige and the Russos, there is no good time during

end game to go to the bathroom. So. I'm not missing

it and I'm certainly not gonna pay again to see

it if I don't have to So good luck to people

pooping in popcorn buckets and peeing in like

pee bottles Because you know someone's gonna

do it, you know, this is gonna happen Yeah Someone

is gonna go to Avengers actually hell there's

that marathon that happened this past week with

all the movies lead Leading up to endgame You

know someone's worn a diaper. It's happening

right now. Yeah, there's no way I would sit through

all the movies in the theater. I could maybe

do if they showed all the Avengers like Avengers

1, Age of Ultron, Infinity War, Endgame. I could

do that, but all 22 movies? No, man, I'd probably

tap out after the first Avenger. I'm actually

kind of curious to see how far I could go, but

I also don't want to die. I honestly don't really

want to watch all of them. Like, I have a feeling

I know who's going to be out after this movie.

Mm -hmm. And I have a feeling that it's going

to be predominantly most of the original Avengers.

That's just... This is without reading anything.

This is just like because I've read a few different

conflicting things. I don't really know I haven't

physically seen any footage though, so But I'm

almost positive most of the original are gone

and that's okay I think people are going to be

pleasantly surprised by this. And that's what

I'm hoping. I hope people walk out of this movie

feeling satisfied. And I hope the spoilers haven't

gotten to you. I hope people haven't ruined it

for you. In fact... One of the more unusual sources

of spoilers, as I mentioned earlier, is toys.

Toys and Lego sets. A major thing got spoiled

on Reddit the other day because it was a toy

shot from, I think it was a local Target, where

they put out some of the end game stuff a little

early. And if you know what you're looking for,

that's, huh. So that's how they get around that.

Yeah, it's a pretty big friggin spoiler and Street

dates exist on stuff for a reason So you don't

get stuff like people going to borders and just

buying the novelization and telling you how it

ends anyway So I guess in conclusion my point

of this is don't be that guy Be be a good person.

Let people enjoy things I mean if you want to

share your excitement with somebody make sure

they're of a like mind with you Before you say

hey, guess what? Did you know Darth Vader is

Luke's father? You know don't be that asshole

You know what I mean? Don't be a guy who purposely

spoils it for everybody else just to be edgy

and cool because you know What surprise you're

not? Don't be that guy. No one likes that guy

that guy gets kicked to the balls more often

than not That is true, but The other thing is

is I did find it funny that the only one to get

a script Was Robert Downey jr. Like the entire

script. Well, yeah, cuz you're not gonna trust

anybody else off that set so Well, yeah, especially

well, the only other one I could see them trusting

would be Chris Evans I could see them Chris Evans

and maybe Jeremy Renner, but you you ain't trusted

Ruffalo and you ain't trust in Hall and they

both got big mouths. Yep. Yep. Maybe Chris Hemsworth.

Maybe. He's a little cavalier, but maybe. Actually,

I have a feeling like he'd give something away.

Have you seen the Jimmy Fallon thing yet? Which

one? He did. We didn't start the fire, but with

the Avengers. It is single -handedly one of the

most brilliant pieces of tie -in marketing I

have ever seen. They basically do the MCU, the

entire timeline to We Didn't Start the Fire.

And it's got everybody there singing along with

it. And it's cut together so well. It looks amazing.

It doesn't surprise me because during Infinity

War, they did the Marvel Bunch, like the Brady

Bunch on Jimmy Fallon. Yeah. Like seriously when

this episode post goes up if you can link the

Jimmy Fallon thing People will be surprised because

it's so well done In fact, I'm gonna watch it

after this after we're done podcasting here because

that's how much I enjoy it Like it's it's so

beautifully well done and it ends with a tribute

to to Stan Lee Which I still can't believe he's

gone. But at least his final cameo is here. It

makes it so fitting to Yeah, especially for the

end of an era mm -hmm, and I would hope I I'm

hoping against hope that the cameo for spider

-man far from home I Hope they got Ryan Reynolds

for a day Just to do a shot is Deadpool even

if it's just him just walking down the street

or something Something goofy like that. I'd totally

be okay of Deadpool to start showing up Or him

just walking up and going this is my movie Yeah,

I'm in their universe now. Yeah, I don't belong

here kids, but don't but don't see my movie unless

you're 18 a something like that See, I think

that'd be really cheeky and funny Well, I think

it'd be funny if he did like almost like a Wayne's

World thing and he comes up and he says this

isn't my movie But I just thought I'd show up

here since Marvel bought Fox and then see that'd

be great And then she goes away see Marvel steal

this idea. It's great What else do we got to

talk about? I think that's pretty much about

it. Well, there's the the Stranger Things creators.

Oh, heading to trial for alleged plagiarism.

Well, that's a dangerous word. Yeah, come Hollywood.

Yeah, they and this was posted. I'm trying to

find when April 18th. So I don't know if there's

been anything that's been updated since then.

But they more or less got into like a fight with

this Charlie Kessler or something who alleged

that Stranger Things is based on a feature film

script titled The Montauk Project set in the

New York town, which basically covers a lot of

the same type of things. And yeah, so there's

like some fight going on with that at the moment

Claiming that the guy had submitted ideas to

the you know to them for Something with that

pertaining to that that particular film or project

or something because somehow they were tied into

it and Yeah, so they're there they were battling

it out in a trial Where you know It's a lot of

back and forth but ultimately I think Netflix

because it has bigger dollars is gonna win I

just thought it was kind of interesting that

that whole thing was there but On the plus side

I saw a trailer for Will Smith movie Today the

Gemini man Okay, what is that about? It's an

Ang Lee directed sci -fi thriller which features

de -aging CGI. So basically, they dropped this

trailer and it's where Will Smith plays not one

lady man, but two. And it's a Paramount movie.

So he's an assassin who's being targeted by someone

who can seemingly predict his every move. And

it turns out that it's a younger version of himself.

And they used a de -aging CGI. to make him, he

basically looks like Will Smith from the Fresh

Prince. Oh, that's cool. And I was like, you

know, they give him like a softer voice and everything

else, but the de -aging actually looks really

good. And I was kind of surprised because the

last time we saw de -aging, even by like Disney

standards, like they tried to do Princess Leia.

They did it for Looper, didn't they? But there's

been more stuff since then. Well, they've done

that. That was like the most recent thing that

Disney used it for. They used it in Cap Civil

War. Oh, yeah. And Robert Downey Jr. looked kind

of cheesy going back to his 80s look. But like

from his SNL days, like it was kind of just weird

seeing him like that. But this was just really

well done, which was really surprising to me

in this. It I don't know. It looked really cool.

So I was kind of like, okay This this has me

sold because they they cloned basically they

cloned Will Smith's older character When he was

25 years younger So they have like a 25 year

old version of him running around in a 50 year

old version of him running around And like Clive

Owen's character says, you know, he cloned him

because there's never been anybody like him Pretty

cool. Yeah, so I thought it was kind of interesting

almost like a Die Hard movie, but it's almost

it kind of reminds me of that movie that Bruce

Willis was in with Looper. Yeah. Yeah, Looper,

I think. Yeah, that's that was a movie. So it

kind of reminds me of that, except it's not time

travel. It's just cloning. So I thought that

was pretty neat. The only other thing I had was

the Sony PS5 details that have kind of Popped

up or rumors and speculation anyway I'll believe

it when I see it Supposedly one of the big leaks

around it is GTA 6 maybe a timed exclusive for

it Which is a pretty big deal Well, they're talking

about just it's gonna come out and have like

8k supported graphics, which honestly Barely

anybody I know uses 4k yeah, I think I know maybe

three people that have 4k out of like the hundreds

of people I know that actually game journalism

professionally, so. Yeah, I mean, and I don't

like honestly, I don't even care about 4K like

I'm fine if it's just 1080p like HD quality like

the 920, you know, by 1080 like that's perfectly

fine for me. I don't care beyond that because

honestly, most of my screens, I'm not going to

care about that much level of detail. And then

they kind of mentioned how it's going to have

a solid state drive. But Microsoft's already

coming out with a new Xbox One that's going to

have basically that. Yeah, I'll be interested

to see how the next Xbox stacks up against the

new PS5, though we won't see anything until at

least 2020 at given the current rate, so now

you have time to save up. Plus with the PS5,

we'll also have backwards compatibility, which

the Xbox One definitely capitalized on this console

generation, which it's surprising to see Xbox

lagging behind as the third. competitor as the

third console in this generation. I use my Xbox

every day. Actually, speaking of that, Blair,

can you turn off the Xbox? She just happened

to be walking by. And it's PS4 and then Switch

and then Xbox. as the console's generation, at

least as I understand it, because I know PS4

has a massive install base. And I'm glad Sony's

taking advantage of that. It would be nice if

they could have gone backwards compatible all

the way back to the PS3. But there is that PlayStation

Now service where you stream your games. And

I don't like that. I think game streaming, especially

with Google's Stadia. Yeah, I can only imagine

that's gonna work if you have throttled internet

or you only have so many gigabytes That'll be

interesting to see how that all plays out. Um,

I Don't know. I don't really like the idea of

streaming Games like I get it for for video in

audio but like gaming not so much But that's

also because I think that It's kind of a missed

Yeah, like I I think you're gonna miss part of

it just like it's already difficult enough gaming

online like streaming online to have things not

have a lag in Adding the fact that the entire

game is streamed online. Like it's just I don't

I don't see it. I Don't see it taking off as

well as what they're probably foreseeing I'm

It will never catch on in the fighting game scene

because input lag is real or it won't catch on

with competitive shooters. Stuff like Assassin's

Creed, like it's already shown Assassin's Creed

Odyssey running on it. That's cool. I think that'll

work. But there is noticeable input lag. So it's

not going to kill you most times. But if you're

playing something like, say, a Mass Effect or

even, like I mentioned, Persona 5. It doesn't

really matter for stuff that's more turn -based.

I don't know. I think there's still a lot of

bugs to work out. They say it's gonna launch,

I think, later on this year. I'm curious. I'm

not gonna buy it. I have a friend who works at

Google, so maybe I can get a discount on it,

but... I don't know, I'm not holding my breath.

As for the PS5, they've already said it's not

gonna launch this year, so you don't have to

worry about Broketober and November right now

being a big deal, but you're gonna have to start

saving up sooner as opposed to later. Probably

running, my guess is about 600 bucks for the

console, so I'm starting to save up now. I'm

not even sure what the next Xbox is going to

cost. I just know next year is going to be very

expensive and we're going to see a lot of cross

-platform titles for at least a year or two while

they phase out the Xbox One and the PS4 because

this console generation started back in 2011,

2012. So it's hard to believe these consoles

have been around for that long. I still have

my original Xbox One launch console. Wow. Yeah,

I only have one PlayStation 4 now because I traded

one in to get a bunch of games last year. Plus,

I don't live in the other room anymore because

handicap. So I don't need two consoles in the

house anymore. I know first person problem, but

anyway, I don't know. I really hope PlayStation

5 lives up to the hype. I don't. want to get

a 4k tv but i have a feeling it's going to be

necessary with hdr and all that thing because

games like spider -man and god of war looked

amazing in 4k with hdr so ah gaming's an expensive

hobby but it sure beats pc gaming and that's

a hill i will die on i hate pc gaming i love

pc gaming but i use an xbox 360 controller so

Like for the games that it matters like if I'm

playing in you know like MMO or something I use

keyboard and mouse, but if I'm playing you know

first -person anything or you know racing or

Anything that I can I could possibly configure

the gamepad for that's what I use it for But

I'm guessing you're not playing at super high

max settings for everything No, but that doesn't

matter to me Yeah, I'm saying those hardcore

PC gamers who have to play fortnight at like

a hundred and twenty frames a second and all

this other ridiculous My dad does that with battlefield

He's got a like a liquid cooled machine Like

for his graphics card and runs dual graphics

cards and stuff and SSDs and you know high frequency

rates on monitors and stuff and so like it's

It's insane. Like I, I don't care that much.

Like I'm a PC gamer, but like at the same time,

like I just don't, I don't have the money to

throw away on like high end parts. And so that's

what I like about console gaming. I buy it and

it works. Yeah. Well, the thing is, is I haven't

upgraded my computer in five, six years. And

the best part about it is it still runs everything.

But it can't run it. But it can't run everything

at max settings. And that's the benchmark these

days. Most of it can run at high settings. It's

most of the bottleneck for me is when I have

to play online. It's my processor, five megabyte

Internet. Oh, my God. Well, that's that's the

that's the cheap thing. Like it's like I would

love nothing more than to get the hundred megabyte

again. But that's a lot more money. I was about

to say, how do you survive? But then again, I

live online, so I stream everything. Well, yeah,

I mean, it works great, I mean, considering.

But still, I would prefer to get the 100 megabyte

if I can get the price low enough. It's been

a number of years since I've had it, and I've

felt the difference. But I think that about rounds

it out on this episode of Altered Geek. Yeah,

I can't think of anything else I really want

to talk about I mean other than the fact like

I said I'm playing a lot of video games these

days. I'm really enjoying the JRP RPG genre again

for the first time since Probably Final Fantasy

7 & 8 so you can tell how long I've been away

It's definitely not a Western RPG. So hopefully

I'll have my review of Mortal Kombat 11 out in

like a week. I'm going to finish story mode after

I get off the podcast with Steve here, and then

hopefully I'll have a gushing review of Persona

5 at some point in the next two or three weeks.

So anyway, that's going to do us for here at

Altered Geek. So for Altered Geek, we have been

Steve Megatron Phillips. I've been Mike the Birdman

Dodd saying get altered. Get geeky with the Altered

Geeks. probably is.
