About this Episode

The hosts review their 2014 box office performance and reveal their top 15 predictions for 2015. They discuss the potential for high-grossing films like Star Wars, The Avengers, and Inside Out while evaluating the risks of various genre releases.

Hey guys, this is Rob Paulsen and you're listening

to the Geekcast Radio Network. Today on Weekend

at the Movies, we'll be discussing a look back

at our box office predictions from 2014 and a

look ahead to our top box office predictions

for 2015. So to do that, I've brought a couple

people. We got the returning from the 2014 box

office, Dan and myself, to look and see how well

or how poorly we did. And then we have a new

person as far as the box office predictions go,

but listeners of Weekend at the Movies will obviously

recognize his voice, and that would be Fridley

Senn. Hello, Matt. Hello. Before we get into

it too far, Dan, I don't know if you've looked

back at your predictions yet or not, and if you've

looked at what the actual year produced. I did,

and I am not very good at this. Maybe with practice

we will get better, but we'll break it down and

give you exactly how it turned out, and then

we'll get into what kind of... what kind of things

we thought about as we decided to start forming

our 2015 list and Slightly different instead

of doing 10 picks for 2015. We are expanding

it to 15 in 2015 For multiple reasons Matt like

you brought up to the 15 in 2015 just sounds

good But I think most people will agree when

you look at the year the movies that are gonna

be released in 2015 There are some obvious box

office blockbuster movies coming out so if we

were doing our top five for example it would

be a very boring record and everyone would know

what we were about to say so we're expanding

it to 15 to try to break it up a little bit and

make it a little bit more hopefully interesting

i don't know i don't know i haven't seen matt's

list i haven't seen dan's list i have no idea

how many we will have in common or how many we

will have different so we'll have to wait and

see about that um matt you or you didn't listen

to our one from 2014 did you matt Actually, yeah,

I went back and listened to a month or two's

worth of MYs before I ever first recorded. You

are an excellent person at doing your homework

and getting prepared. That's what I do. I like

it. I remember back in a year ago when we were

doing this for 2014. I mean, obviously it was

the first time Dan and I had ever tried to do

something like this. And we tried to come up

with different things to look at. We tried to

find comparable films. Dan, I'm not sure how

much you looked at when in the year. I think

you did a little bit more of that than I did

as far as when in the year it was coming out

and what it was competing against. We had different

things that we tried. One thing that I had looked

at was I went back about 10 years and looked

at how many films in the top 10 had made X number

of dollars. What I found and what I explained

last year was that generally speaking, you have

Somewhere around 10 films a year that grows over

200 million domestically Give or take depending

on the year. Sometimes it's you know, eight or

nine Sometimes it's 11 or 12, but I thought you

know in making my list that I had to look at

which films could actually break that 200 million

mark because that seemed to be What usually can

come assist the top 10 consists of? Looking back

at 2014 it wasn't that far off we had Currently

and I don't think it'll change too much, but

we had 13 films in 2014 that made over 200 million

dollars so Somewhat fitting with form a little

a little bit more than some years with it with

having 13 But it was as much as it was like a

bad year overall at the box office when you take

this look at the top 13 here I mean it was pretty

impressive compared to when we were making our

list We didn't even know if there would be 10

that made over 200 million Dan Yeah, it was surprising,

too, because even if you look at the number of

$100 million films, it was a lot more than you

realize. Overall, I think you didn't have the

huge hits. 2013 had a couple that were just gigantic,

which you didn't really have in 2014. And I think

a lot of them trickled in at the end. Hobbit

and Hunger Games just kept in there for a long

time and eventually overcame. Overcame guardians,

which I thought was gonna hold on to the number

one spot, but it was eventually dethroned. Yeah

So let's just get the the look back real quick

out of the way to see how how terrible we are

at this And that we have room to improve and

room to grow here Dan your top ten. I'm just

gonna run down from ten to one here. You had

divergent at number ten Which came in at number

19? in real time. You had Rio 2 at number 9,

which came in at 22nd. Yeah, that wasn't close.

You had The Lego Movie at your 8th spot, which

came in at 4th. You had Captain America at 7th,

which came in 3rd. You had Godzilla at 6th, which

came in 13th. Amazing Spider -Man 2 at your 5th

spot, which came in 12th. How to Train Your Dragon

2 in your 4th spot, which came in 17th. Interstellar

at your third spot which came in 16th Hunger

Games mocking Jay part one you had at your number

two that actually came in at number one and then

Transformers age of extinction was your number

one pick and it just Recently dropped down to

the seventh spot. Where did you get it right?

And where did you go wrong there? Well, I think

I took a chance with divergent in Rio to I thought

maybe, you know, there'll be your surprise here.

That Divergent could be like the new Hunger Games,

which it didn't quite, but I was, the biggest

one I thought like I was a shoe in was How to

Train Your Dragon 2. That to me was the most

surprising. I like that. It's still kind of stunned

to me that that didn't succeed nearly as much,

but probably the one I got wrong the most was

Rio 2 and Interstellar at number three. I guess

I overestimated the power of Nolan. We both underestimated.

With Reo 2, though, I mean, we both were trying

to decide, and you mentioned How to Train Your

Dragon 2, the power of the animated film. And

we've obviously seen a lot of animated films

do very well. You know, like the Despicable Me's

and we had just come off of Frozen and stuff

like that. And, you know, they seem to stay in

the theater longer. Or even come back sometimes

throughout the year So we both thought animated

films were actually gonna do much better than

they ended up doing and we picked the wrong animated

film for our second one You had three on your

list with Lego movie how to turn your dragon

to in Rio 2 and I had 2 with lego movie and and

how to train your dragon 2 and we both missed

The second one that would actually make the top

10 my list going down captain america at number

10 lego movie at number 9 godzilla 8 how to train

your dragon 2 7 interstellar 6 the hobbit 5 amazing

spider -man 2 4 transformers age of extinction

3 x -men days of future past 2 and hunger games

mocking j -part 1 I had number 1 um I I again

messed up with my second animated one Like you,

we totally bought an interstellar, I guess, more

than we should have. And we both missed with

Godzilla and Amazing Spider -Man 2. So those

were two that we both thought would be in the

top 10, and they ended up being 12 and 13. So

it's not like we missed by a lot. I think when

you look at it, our picks aren't that bad. All

of our picks outside of Rio 2 are still in the

top 20. So it wasn't like we missed terribly.

We just couldn't anticipate. Few films doing

as well as they did because the real list as

of today and this could change slightly Since

there's still one film that's raking in money

here. That's counting for 2014 but as of right

now Which just changed we have big hero 6 coming

in at the tenth spot with 218 million x -men

days of future past at 233 Maleficent at 241

transformers at 245 American sniper at 250, The

Hobbit at 251, The Lego Movie at 257, Captain

America 259, Guardians of the Galaxy at 333,

and Hunger Games at 335. So obviously the two

that we couldn't expect were Guardians of the

Galaxy and American Sniper, right Dan? Yeah,

I mean I think a lot of no one expected American

sniper to make nearly as much as it did. I mean,

it's the highest grossing war war two movie ever,

which is kind of crazy And then I think most

people thought Guardians of Galaxy will do probably

like a hundred million hundred fifty million

But it you know doubled that so there you go.

Yeah, I mean Guardians of Galaxy It's got to

be one of the biggest surprises. I think what

American sniper represents It's it's that film

that you it you can't predict that it's it's

the type of film that makes a lot of money almost

Entirely because of word of mouth Yeah, and it

also hits at the right time. It's absolutely

not much else is out It came out right when like

it got like 12 Oscar nominations Which I don't

know if it helped it or hurt it and then there's

a lot of like It's just like the movie of the

moment where there's a lot of talk about it about

like everything So I think it's kind of the buzz

film too. So there's a lot It's kind of its own

little like a movement in a way. So it's just

right I could see it getting up to possibly,

you know Fasting Captain America because it's

really got no competition right now. So maybe

when Jupiter sending comes out it hurts it a

little bit, but who knows Yeah, it's most likely

to move into that third spot eventually and knock

everything else down a little bit And it's kind

of like a book in there because it's a similar

to what the Lego movie did almost a year ago

Because it was about in the same time period

just a little bit Later as point to make it a

2014 film still But definitely two big ones at

the beginning and at the end of 2014. Maleficent,

I mean, I think we both considered that. Yeah,

literally it was like an honorable mention for

me. It was like 11 or 12. And I almost put it

above Divergent, but then I didn't because I

like to be wrong, apparently. So I mean, but

that one wasn't as surprising. And then, of course,

the animated film we missed, we put How to Train

Your Dragon 2, both of us. Apparently, we should

have put Big Hero 6. Yeah, underestimating Marvel,

which is a lesson learned, I guess. Yeah, and

it almost did 50 million more. So I mean, it's

not just by a tiny margin. Just to give you an

idea of how the other one stacked up, Donna the

Planet of the Apes just missed and that came

in at 11. And then of course, Amazing Spider

-Man 2, Godzilla, then 22 Jump Street, then Teenage

Mutant Ninja Turtles at 15, Interstellar, then

How to Train Your Dragon 2, Gone Girl at 18,

Divergent 19, Neighbors 20, Ride Along 21, and

then Dan's Last Pick Rio 2 22. That's as far

as I went back. So, I mean we did have In common

we both picked four of what ended up in the top

ten with Hunger Games Captain America the Lego

movie and Transformers Age of Extinction And

then I had X -Men and and Hobbit that was right

So we we only missed four of the top ten. I don't

know. I guess that's okay Yeah, I mean I know

it like we said I think no one would have in

the right mind probably pick American Sniper

Guardians I could see someone taking a chance

on it. But yeah, yeah It could have been a lot

worse. You obviously ousted me because you had

more than I did in your top 10 that made it.

So congratulations to you. Well, yeah, we only

had two different picks in our top 10 last year.

Mine was I had the Hobbit and X -Men and you

had Rio 2 and Divergent. So I guess that is where

I take the slight edge. Otherwise, our lists

were very similar. And just because I like to

do math, I guess, if you were to add up, if someone

would literally have gotten all 10 right, If

you assigned a point value, you know one for

one two for two the minimum points You could

get is 55 if you had them. All right I came in

at 87 Dan you came in at 114 so We're both up

there in the same ballpark, but just slightly

different What did and if anything when you're

going to make your 2015 list before we get into

that and let Matt talk again since he's probably

feeling left out here. Um What if anything did

you learn from your 2014 list and did it influence

how you went about? making your 2015 list? Like

I said, don't underestimate Marvel. The other

thing is, again, directors may not mean what

you think they do because I rank interstellar

really high because I thought Nolan would be...

Huge, but it did not work out so and also expect

unexpected because there's always that movie

that kind of sneaks in there that you don't necessarily

expect So yeah, I mean I think the the first

movie I remember that was like that that I don't

think anybody would have predicted right before

it came out Or at least a year before it came

out is like I'm like that Titanic feel You know

I don't think that's something that people expected

to do as well, and then it just you know just

goes crazy Similar with Avatar I think And and

similar to what we have like with American Sniper

and some movies like that even Guardians of the

Galaxy Lego movie I mean, there's always these

movies that aren't even gonna be on your radar

that just somehow do good Or do great. We'll

see if expanding to 15 makes us a little bit

better at catching those but this is a difficult

year, I think yeah, I Think 10 to 15 was quite

hard. Like I was just like I don't any way I

don't understand We did this like six or seven

times and I still don't feel all that great about

it Yeah, I mean, I think everyone is I say it's

a difficult year and people are like, are you

kidding me? I can easily tell you the top five

Which yes, it is at the top. It is somewhat easier,

but there's a lot of big movies coming out this

year There's a lot of movies that have the potential

Do something like we saw with you know, some

of these more sleeper unpredictable picks. There's

a lot of franchise movies There's a lot of blockbusters.

There's a lot of different stuff out there So

I think it's a somewhat hard to predict at least

once we get down like you said into the 10 to

the 15 mark Getting into some of the criteria

some of the things that you considered What what

weighed more on your mind? Like I said, was it

what did you look at time of year? Did you look

at what it was competing against? Did you look

at previous films that it matched up with? Matt,

how did you go about assembling your list without

giving any of your picks away yet? How did you

try to break it down? Well, the first thing I

did was look at the top 10, 15 for the last,

I don't know, like four or five years. I see

what you're saying with... Like going back as

many as 10 years, but like I feel like we probably

changed a lot since true 2005 and then another

thing I wanted to do is anything that was like

part of a Franchise I went and looked at how

every movie and that franchise is done to see

if there's an upward or downward trend, right?

Um, and that yeah, that's that's the the two

things I did Yeah, I think that's something similar

to what I did. I didn't go, like you said, I

didn't go quite as far back as the 10 -year mark.

I did something that I think both Dan and I did

a lot last year, and we really tried to match

up. If it was a franchise, you looked at what

other films that franchise has done and how they've

done. Or if it's that film that doesn't really

have a franchise, what's the most comparable

movie you can think of that would match up with

that? And that's when it kind of becomes a guessing

game, so to speak. Is it going to match up more

with this movie, more with that movie? Dan, what

did you look at most when you were trying to

form this list this year? I think the only thing

a little bit different, in addition to that,

I also kind of looked at, considered the overall

buzz or something. Because I look at something

like Amazing Spider -Man 2. I kind of just assumed

that would be in the top 10, but I didn't really.

Considered the fact that there was a lot of negative

buzz out there before it even came out and I

think that ended up hurting it especially the

end with that and the negative reviews so I Considered

that with certain franchises where I looked at

something. I'm like, well, I don't know what

people are really digging this right now So maybe

it won't do that. Well, you know something like

a few years ago with X -Men First Class like

that, because of the negative impact of X -Men

The Last Stand and Wolverine Origins, not a lot

of people were looking forward to the next X

-Men movie, so it didn't do all that well. So

I was kind of considering that, too, just where

people's minds are at when the movie's coming

out. Are people really looking forward to this,

or are people already dogging you on it before

it comes out? Right, and I think that's an important

thing to do, too, because that can give it...

Obviously the buzz is gonna definitely have an

effect, especially on the opening weekend and

the opening week. That's what makes a movie either

set records on opening week, this on the other

end, it's the word of mouth that comes in later

on. So there's definitely two things to consider

there. I did all of that. I did what I did last

year too. I tried to set some number of values

to the movies, even though I did, I'm not even

gonna reveal any of that data from 2014, because

even though I might have got... some right in

the top 10, my numbers were not even close. So

I'm not going to go into that. But I tried the

same thing. I tried to assign some numbers at

where I thought it could fall and then sort them

accordingly. And then once I had all that done,

then I actually looked at the calendar and decided

if I needed to spike things up or down from where

I had them, depending on what they were competing

against and what time of the year they were going

out. as kind of a last little ditch to try to

break ties and see if anything should rise or

fall in my original rankings, but I don't know.

We all have a bunch of different things we can

look at. All this is just talk though. We need

to get to the actual picks to see how this is

going to play out and to see which one of us

becomes the king in 2015. See if Matt has the

beginner's luck or if Dan and I have learned

anything from our first go around. Matt, since

you're new, we'll put you on the spot first.

What is your number 15 movie for 2015 as far

as the box office goes? My number 15 is the one

I'm gonna assume is gonna be on no one else's

list. I could probably be wrong about that, which

is Terminator Genesis. Nice. I looked at the

other Terminator movies. Terminator 2, did you

know in 1991 made over 200 million dollars? Like

I'm a crazy we consider inflation. I'd be like

a trillion dollars. Yeah And then terminate besides

the first one which apparently did not do well

every terminator with Schwarzenegger in it has

been in the top 10 for the year I think he's

getting older. So maybe top 15. So that's where

I'm gonna put it Interesting pictures thing it

go ahead I thought I was very much considering

it. I'll just say now that it's not in my top

15. I looked at Terminator Salvation, which didn't

do all that well. But like you mentioned, it

didn't have Schwarzenegger. But Schwarzenegger's

other movies haven't also been doing that well,

like The Last Stand. And so that kind of made

me sway away from seeing Genesis. And I also

was not a fan of the trailer. So I'm like, I

don't know. Oh, so yes. I saw the trailer at

the Super Bowl and loved it. I haven't seen the

Super Bowl one only the one that was released

before that so I can't speak to that one But

uh, I don't know I heavy it was literally like

that I went back and forth with a few for number

15 and almost I was very close to it It does

have Khaleesi. So that's true All right, Dan.

Where do you start your list at? well, I don't

know if you guys will have this on it and I'm

and This is I feel like maybe that can make may

make a tons of money or be like one of the biggest

bombs of all time just because there's so much

talk about it and controversy over it, and I'm

not saying I'm gonna go see it, but I know a

lot of people are talking about it. It started

as a book and started its own little phenomenon,

and that's Fifty Shades of Grey is my number

15. It's rated R, so that worries me some, but...

I'm thinking just because of the rabid fan base

that book has and I could see you know certain

people maybe Repeat viewing if it's if it strikes

the right accord with the people so I I'm thinking

you know There's a potential might do well, so

I put that at 15. That's definitely one that

has that sleeper potential I'm wondering if Do

you think it took too long for that movie to

come out after the book was such a craze? It

may have. It was supposed to come out last August,

interestingly enough, on the same weekend as

Guardians of the Galaxy, but it got pushed back.

But I don't know. I still think it's there, because

there have been a lot of books that have... I

think that's a book that still has only grown

in popularity if more people have read it or

talked about it. It may not be at the height

it once was, but I could see the movie still

causing... Rekindling that flame as I said, I

think I think that's a real good pick to have

within your top 15 I think I was just scared

maybe had to put it in there because it's so

unpredictable I definitely thought about it,

but I had nothing to gain like that's one of

the ones that I literally could find nothing

to compare it to Yeah, that's what like I said,

I figured there's there's that surprise one that

maybe people aren't expecting So I figured if

I'm gonna put a surprise one that I don't have

a lot of faith in I'm gonna put it at number

15. Nice. All right I am putting one at 15 that

I definitely didn't have in my first couple rounds.

But I'm thinking maybe it has just an outside

shot at going into 15. I actually had about three

other films at 15 until I looked at the dates

that they were coming out. And I just thought

it was going to hurt them too much. So that ended

up with me putting this at 15, even though it

doesn't have a ton of buzz around it, at least

not from what I've heard. And my 15th pick will

be Ant -Man. Don't know what movie you compare

this to You know if you look at like the Incredible

Hulk it did 130 if you look at the first Thor

movie it did 180 I Don't even know if you can

compare it to those two I know it's not getting

the same type of buzz as a lot of our superhero

films are going for But when we get to our honorable

mentions I'll talk about the ones that I had

at 15 that I just think are gonna be hurt by

the calendar too much And I thought Ant -Man

had a window there where I was coming out that

it might be able to to get some money um... you

know i don't have it as a two hundred million

dollar film i think there's only going to be

about ten of them this year again because i guess

i'm obsessed with ten films being over two hundred

million but uh... i have it somewhere you know

in the one seventy five range possibly so my

ant -man is my number fifteen i'll just say i

will wait to hear more about that till later

excellent all right matt uh... that brings back

to you for your next one what's number fourteen

on your list I think my 14 and probably my 13

are the two worst picks on my list that are probably

not gonna do me any good. And I'm gonna just

preface it by saying I finalized my list about

10 minutes before I went to sleep this morning.

And this was one of the ones I was like, yeah,

that could be on there. And that's Hotel Transylvania

2. There were two or three animated movies in

the top what 15 So some of them have got to be

up there and that's the one I picked I Figured

since it's a sequel it'll probably do a little

bit better than the first since everyone knows

the characters now Although that could be against

me And I have nothing else to say cuz I haven't

even seen the first one. Yeah I think the first

one was right around the 150 million mark Yeah,

that's the low gap. So it's not that far off.

I don't remember what time of the year that this

one's coming out, but yeah, when I was looking

at the animated films, because obviously I'm

going to put some animated films in my top 15,

because if you don't, you're completely missing

the boat here, I think, altogether. And that's

definitely one of the ones I considered. It's

not going to quite make my list, but I don't

think that's a terrible pick at 14. What do you

think, Dan? I honestly did not even know that

was coming out this year. But yeah, I mean, it

definitely did well. I know it, I think even

that's kind of the similar thought process I

had with Rio. I feel like it's only gained popularity

because I think it hit Netflix recently. So I

know a lot of people watched it. So maybe it'll

even do better on its sequel. Cause sometimes

you do see that with sequels with animated films.

They do better with the second one than they

do with the first one. So hopefully Matt, that's

not your Rio too. Dan, where do you go for 14?

I think everyone, that's just become a saying.

Hopefully it's not my Rio too, for a lot of reasons.

That's awesome. My number 14, I was thinking,

you know, there's gotta be some comedies in there.

And what are the big comedies gonna be for this

upcoming year? You know, I saw, you know, I didn't

see Melissa McCarthy coming out with a movie,

but I'm gonna refrain from that. Is Kevin Hart

in it too? Surprisingly, no. He's coming out

with one with real Pharaoh. But, so, and this

one actually is a sequel, and it's original did...

Make the top ten when it did come out, but and

it's Ted to and I'm putting it at number fourteen

and maybe wondering like why not higher because

Ted one was in the top ten. Well, I think after

a million ways to die in the West, which was

a little bit of was a pretty big disappointment

financially and critically that maybe the buzz

isn't quite there as much. But I do think a lot

of people love the first one. So I do think it's

going to make the top 15. I'm just not sure where.

So I put it at 14. I think you make Some good

points with that one and comedies do have a way

of sneaking in there You know just people are

more willing sometimes to go see the comedies

Especially compared to like a drama or something

You don't really see a lot of dramas and in the

you know top of the box office And that's I think

my biggest weakness in my list is I don't have

enough comedies Ted to is definitely one that

I considered big -time I'm concerned as to when

it's being released because it's being released

at the end of June Which is right after Jurassic

World and Inside Out and right before Terminator

Minions and Ant -Man So I don't know I was somewhat

concerned as to when it comes out But you could

easily make the argument that it's not the same

genre as any of those types of films So maybe

it'll give somebody, you know something to go

see besides those Yeah, I was thinking it's kind

of catering to different audiences or sometimes

it's like after having a drastic world it's nice

to have more of a carefree comedy so sometimes

it's almost like a cleansing of the palate so

it actually ends up benefiting it in a little

bit because i think that's like when the hangover

came out it was like memorial day weekend in

between a lot of blockbusters so it can be a

benefit or it could get overshadowed i'm not

sure but i i trust i trust marky mark i'm not

too far off from you that was the original one

i one of the original ones i had in my 15 spot

so i'm not very far off from from you having

it number 14 For my number 14, I'm trusting that

maybe this franchise will have gained some steam,

but I don't know. This is one that didn't necessarily

do as well as we thought it would last year.

I don't know if the Divergent series is gaining

steam or not, but I just think it might do slightly

better, but maybe I'm way off. Maybe this one's

going to be going on a downward spiral, but I

have Insurgent from the Divergent series at my

number 14. I am not excellent at predicting the

YA genre. It's probably a good thing. So I don't

know. We get a ton of those films it seems like

now every year. And Divergent did 150. So I just

have it doing slightly better than that. Somewhere

in that 170 range. Maybe it's gained some fans

from the first one that want to see how it continues.

Maybe I'm wrong though. Maybe since Divergent

didn't do as good as people thought that... It's

losing steam. This is a hard franchise for me

to gauge the, you know, the buzz and the interest

on, but I'm sticking it down at the bottom of

the list at 14, giving it that outside shot.

So that is the first two picks on our list. Let's

make our way down some more with Matt's number

13. My number 13 is the one I'm reluctant to

put on my list, and that's Fantastic Four. Think

it looks terrible like the the trailer I saw

made it look terrible and people I've talked

to agree with that but at the same time a lot

like superhero movies are in and I don't know

man. It looks terrible and I hope it fails. I

hope it burns There is such a polarizing thing

about Fantastic Four. I've actually heard a lot

of people that have have jumped to the other

side after the trailer. Maybe I'm exposed to

a different crowd, I guess, but I have a lot

of people that were anti -Fantastic 4 until the

trailer came out and now they're jumping on board.

I don't have an opinion on the franchise one

way or the other. I've never been interested

in that franchise and I don't even know if I've

ever seen any of their movies. I'm jumping off

of this because this is actually my number 13

as well. The past two did 130, 150. Obviously,

this is a reboot type of thing. Do think it's

it's worth putting on there due to the the cast

and I think there is a following for some of

these Cast members, you know, it's a younger

I don't know if you want to call it more hip

cast or whatever But but I don't know it's it's

maybe different enough that it has a shot I did

not have this on my list originally But due to

the trailer release and again another thing where

you look at when it's coming out and on the schedule

I did put it up at my number 13. So I'm in a

complete agreement with you on this one Thought

it I thought it would suffer from like amazing

spreader man to syndrome where a lot of people

are Hitting it begin with and maybe it won't

be that great of a film. So it won't be that

special So that was my worries. That's why I

didn't it's coming out the first week of August

and There's nothing else coming out in August

that I I mean the man from uncle is coming out

the next week But August is a slow month this

year I don't really know if it's going to have

that much competition for a while. That's why

I put it on there. I don't necessarily think

it's going to do that great, but I think it's

going to be a slow and steady pace for that entire

month. Well last like it and that had like a

streak of winning like three weeks in a row four

weeks in a row because there's nothing out And

there's really not much coming out in september

either I mean, I think it has a chance of being

in the theaters for a while It does come out

right after mission impossible So they both might

be in the theater for a while competing against

each other And you know only only three weeks

removed from ant -man So there is some some competition

from before it's released but as you know looking

at the month after it comes out That's kind of

what made me decide that it might have that chance

to make some money and stay in the theaters a

little bit longer than we're used to. But since

I've given away my 13, Dan, I guess you get the

last spot now. So what's your 13th pick? This

one I... I'm going on and like maybe my biggest

slam and I kind of looked at the success of Maleficent

last year. I'm like what could be You know a

repeat of that like I think we've seen a lot

of success with those like fairy tales turned

to live -action even Snow White and Huntsman

did really well. I mean Alice in Wonderland was

like You know a billion dollar hit and this isn't

necessarily a fairy tale But it's you know done

by Disney and maybe that that same machine and

it's the Jungle Book Which is gonna be directed

by John Favreau who's coming off of a lot of

positive buzz after making Chef So I think he's

in good graces again with critics and Jungle

Book has a lot of following and I think it has

like again one of those movies I could you know

implode and not do well, but it I think There

is a potential it could you know, repeat the

same success as maleficent if it is good So I

put it at 13. I was scared about that one because

i've heard mixed rumors as far as the release

date Um Yeah, watch it not come out and be like

that would be I have heard there's a chance that

it gets bumped to 2016 I don't know how valid

that is. Um Because if I was 100 sure that it

was coming out in 2015, it would be on my list

but I didn't want to chance that it might not

come out, so I left it off. But I do think it

has potential to, whenever it comes out, be in

the top 15 for that year, whether it's 2015 or

2016. It does have a pretty, at least, voice

cast with Bill Murray doing Baloo and Shere Khan

with Iris Alba. So I don't know if that would

help its marketing or not. I mean, there's not

much out of it. There's no trailer or anything

at this point, like you said. Who knows, but

I do think it has potential. We do always play

the game with these types of things on the spinning

roulette wheel of what will come out and what

won't come out, as we looked at when we looked

at our episode last week with our most anticipated

films and some that we had on our list that never

came out in 2014. Exactly. So all right, I thought

you were going to pick my next film, but you

didn't. I thought I was going to have some agreement

with you. But let's go to our number 12 pick

then, starting with Matt. My number 12 is probably

more hopeful than anything. And I went with Jupiter

Ascending. I think maybe it'll be like Guardians.

Like, you know, it's a sci -fi fantasy movie.

And it's got, you know, a bunch of big names

like Sean Bean, Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, Eddie

Redmayne, and a little bit less. It looked, I

mean, I don't know, the first few trailers looked

very, I don't know, political and like... had

me really interested. And the more it gets closer

to its pushed back release date, the more it

looks like a super high of action. I think the

high action is going to help it in the box office,

even if it makes it less interesting to me. I

think, again, I'm terrible at trying to predict

this genre because I don't know which things

are going to resonate and which things aren't.

I think this one is going to be solely dependent

on how well it's received at the beginning. Because

I think some people are going to be reluctant

to see it at first. And if they hear good things,

they'll go see it. If they hear bad things, they

might stay away. I know it's not getting a great

deal of buzz, at least from more cinephiles and

movie critics and that type of thing. But that

doesn't really matter too much sometimes when

it comes to the box office. So if a certain genre

or demographic gets behind it. it can have some

legs and run with it. I was trying to decide

between that and Insurgent and a couple other

ones which YA films would make my top 15, and

I ended up not going with Jupiter Ascending,

but I don't think it's that terrible of a pick.

Yeah, I wasn't sure. I think the last thing Chachi

said was Cloud Atlas, which I think it did well,

but it wasn't a huge hit, and I know it... Jupiter

setting was panned at Can, which not Can with

Sundance, which to me doesn't mean anything,

but it was my only hesitation. I hope it does

well though, because I do want to see the Wachowskis

get back to form again. So hoping, I do hope

that it does succeed. All right, Dan, what's

your number 12? My number two was actually a

movie that was already mentioned already, and

it's one that's moved its release date to get

out of the way of Star Wars, and that is Mission

Impossible 5. Now, Mission Impossible 4 was a

pretty big hit. It is losing Brad Bird, though,

and I think what made Mission Impossible 4 or

6 such a hit was the fact that it was a really

good movie and maybe the best of the series.

I don't know if that's gonna happen with Mission

Impossible 5. And I know, like, Tom Cruise last

year came out with Edge of Tomorrow, which, or

whatever they're calling it, to live, die, repeat.

And that wasn't necessarily, you know, it was

kind of a disappointment, box -office -wise,

but Mission Impossible franchise has been...

you know, pretty consistent money -wise. The

first one did okay. Second one was a huge hit.

Third one was pretty decent. So hopefully fifth

one stays there. So I went with it for number

12. Yeah. Um, I'll save my thoughts on that one

for a second. Um, my number 12, I think, you

know, I've mentioned like the YA one genre is

kind of hard to predict. I think fairy tale slash

Disney type. Films are are also somewhat which

I guess they shouldn't be anymore if it's Disney

or Marvel or whatever You should just put it

at the top of your list and we should just give

those films and Disney all the money but When

you look at these fairy tale films or some of

the live -action adaptations, they really run

the whole there's a wide range I mean you look

at something like Snow White and the Huntsman

and it only made 155 that probably wouldn't be

good enough to make our list you look at I know

this isn't Disney but the the Wizard of Oz remake

from a couple years ago That now you're up into

the 230 range. That's definitely good enough

to make our list Maleficent from last year 240

You know Alice in Wonderland 334 So I mean it

can go anywhere from 155 with Snow White and

the Huntsman up to 334 with Alice in Wonderland

I don't know where this one falls in between

that I actually have it lower than Maleficent

lower than the Wizard of Oz movie and lower than

Alice in Wonderland But I think it might have

just enough to sneak into our top 15 And I could

be burned because there's been a bunch of bad

movies based on this story, but I'm putting Cinderella

next I don't know. I don't know if the glass

slipper teaser that everyone saw last year was

enough to to create the buzz or or what's gonna

happen, but it's a fairy tale film and it's Disney

and I I just feel like I'm required to put it

on my top 15 I guess So Cinderella will be my

next pick I was in between Cinderella or the

Jungle Book and I went Jungle Book based off

of nothing more than cheer flip of a coin. Alright.

Well, I forgot both of those movies were happening.

Maybe that'll help you. You weren't swayed by,

you know, the Disney persuasion or, you know,

movies based on films popularized by Disney.

I think every Disney movie I could think of is

on here, though. I think every movie we even

don't know but I think all these movies are somehow

owned by Disney regardless or will be short All

right, so on to our 11th pick. These are the

last of the ones that we wouldn't have gone over

last year So what's your number 11 Matt? my number

11 has already been mentioned and Probably not

gonna make it up this high and that's Ted too.

I Don't know. It's it's probably gonna be rated

R Because I don't know why they could do it not.

But like, you know, I was tired and the other

one made a lot of money. And part of me wants

to hope that there's going to be a rated R film

that makes it high because it's very rare that

that happens. I don't think it's that bad a pick.

If it makes what the original one did or if it

improves on it, it will be in the top 15. You

know, the original one did 218. So unless it

has a big downward swing. I don't think you guys

are that far off with your pick. I'm probably

going to be the dumb one that didn't have it

on my list, but I don't think you should be too

ashamed of that one. There's a lot of movies

that are potential 15s, I guess. Yeah. Like I

said, there's always some comedies that kind

of find their way, and this might be a hard year

for those comedies to make the top 15, but I

don't think you guys are far off in putting one

on there. I wish I had one on my list somewhere.

Dan, what about your number 11? My number 11

is also one that's already been mentioned and

it's again that I learned last year to not doubt

Marvel and I don't know how good this movie is

gonna be but I kind of thought Ant -Man is gonna

probably be around the same vein as Thor or Captain

America the first one so that those were like

10 and 11 so I put Ant -Man at number 11 yeah

that's interesting because Thor is the one that

I kind of somehow compared that to I don't even

know why but I was like which Marvel movie can

I compare this to and you know Thor was The one

at the top of my brain for some reason I figured

you know it's it's a solo film It's a name that

many people are aware of it's kind of a hard

concept the trailers I think for Thor didn't

really wow a lot of people the trailers for Ant

-Man didn't really wow a lot of people before

whatever reason you feel Marvel on there people

go so and it's gonna be coming off of You know

the Avengers which I'm sure we'll talk about

not that not in very shortly But and I think

people would kind of be thirsty for another Marvel

film, so I do think just based upon that it would

probably do well Alright, looking at my next

one, this might be my riskiest pick in my top

15 at my number 11 spot here. I am trusting on

good reviews, I'm trusting on word of mouth,

and I'm trusting on the power of when you put

two names together such as Spielberg and Hanks.

So I don't know what the movie is going to be

called eventually, possibly St. James Place,

you know, the Cold War thriller here. I don't

know. I mean, what do I compare it to? I don't

know. Like, there's been some historical pieces

I've done pretty well. I don't really think you

can compare it to Lincoln, which made like 182.

You know, maybe look at some of Spielberg's other

war type films. You know, Saving Private Ryan

made 216. I don't really know if you can compare

it to either one of those films. I had known

really nothing about the film other than it's

going to be somewhat historical and then it's

got Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks involved.

To me that sounds like something that if it gets

good reviews and gets good word of mouth it could

creep up into the 180s, 190 million. I may be

missing the boat on this one and this might be

one I regret a year from now but I wanted to

take at least some chances. I don't know. I don't

know even know if there's a chance or not here.

St. James Place is going to be my number 11 pick

I'm hoping that it doesn't disappoint us. This

could be the interstellar pick of 2014 Yeah,

I mean it it's tough I would love it to see that

happen because you look at maybe something like

I don't know what's a direct comparison but Gone

Girl right where had you had a David Fincher

who's a popular director and Ben Affleck who's

maybe not beloved actor, but he certainly has

a following and the book had a following and

And that did pretty well last year and you know

Spielberg you put his name on something. There's

a good chance It's gonna do well and Tom Hanks

is a pretty marketable guy. So there's always

a possibility I would love it too because I would

love to see like actual like drama films or you

know something that's not based upon some other

right comic book or TV show do well, so I I would

actually be I don't have it in my top 15 But

if it didn't make it I think that you know for

it is an uphill battle for a drama to make it

I mean, obviously we see it with American Sniper,

you know Titanic, you know, I think I don't remember

where Lone Survivor ended up but you know You

see some of these types of films that do gain

the traction and have that ability and I don't

think that subject matter You know, I don't think

their angle with what I think they might do with

Cold War I don't think it's been beaten to death

But maybe I like that subject more than the general

populace. I don't know. I mean, certainly something

that you kind of gone away from a little bit.

Like we don't see it nearly as much as, you know,

we had it back in the 80s and 90s and brushes

back in the news again. So that might help it

a little bit. Right. So we will have to wait

and see if, like I said, if that's the interstellar

pick where I'm just leaning on a director a little

too hard. But Don't know Spielberg has some clout

so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt So

that is our first set of five, which means we

are now ready for our actual top ten I'm gonna

start with this one just because it has just

been mentioned recently So my number ten pick

is actually one you just talked about Dan, which

is Mission Impossible five Again, this one's

a hard one to predict because even if you look

back at the franchise first one does 180 second

one does 215 I believe I think the third one

was all the way down to 130 Which if it does

that we're in trouble But then the last one bounced

back up to 209 So you have two of them doing

over 200 million you have two of them doing under

I have it right around that 200 million mark

And I think that might be good enough to to bring

it in at that tenth spot And like we had just

mentioned with the calendar really the only thing

coming out after that, you know, Jesus, I just

lost my mind. Was it Ant -Man or was it Fantastic

Four? You know, that's really the only one that's

coming out right after it to try to knock it

out. And then it has some time where it can sit

there for a while. So I'm trusting on its staying

power at the theater enough to bring it into

the number 10 spot. Yeah, I think. Like I mentioned,

Edge of Tomorrow did kind of fail, but I think

Edge Tomorrow got a lot of buzz and ended up,

people started loving it and really found it

on home media. So maybe people will be excited

for the next Tom Cruise film, because I think

a lot of people going into Edge of Tomorrow,

for one, it's an awful name, and I don't think

it was marketed all that well. So maybe people

are like, oh wow, I trust Tom Cruise again, and

that could actually benefit Mission Impossible

5. I hope it is kind of weird. It's almost like

the Star Trek syndrome where the odd ones don't

do nearly as well as even ones. Hopefully that

trend doesn't continue or I'm going to be awfully

wrong on that. All right, Dan, what's your number

at 10? My number 10, I'm assuming this will be

mentioned. Again, I don't know for sure. It'll

at least be, it won't be the, I doubt it'll be

the last time we talk about dinosaurs. And it's

my first animated film on my list. Maybe I should

have put more, but it's my number 10 and it is

the second Pixar film to come out in 2015 and

it's The Good Dinosaur. There's not been a lot

about this movie yet. It's really just Pixar.

And then the fact that it's about a dinosaur,

it's coming out in November, which is sometimes

a sweet spot for animated films. Like, that's

when Big Hero 6 came out. So, and we say, yeah,

we saw how well that did. It kind of just, you

know, stayed and benefited from holiday season.

So maybe that'll help with a good dinosaur. Yeah,

I think that's something that I might not have

considered with that one as much as I should

have, you know, when it's coming out. That's

when, you know, when I was, like I said, when...

When Matt talked about Hotel Transylvania 2,

The Good Dinosaur was one that was at the top

of my list when it came to animated films and

one I was definitely considering. And you're

right, it's not going to have a lot of animation

competition in the month of December. You got

the Peanuts movie and you got The Good Dinosaur,

really just about the only two. Well, excuse

me, Alvin and the Chipmunks 4. Which you know

what that'll probably do well which will make

us all sad and monster trucks is that the same

as cars and planes or is that But I guess there

is more coming out then but I think that's the

biggest one what scared me with a good dinosaur

I guess is the early Production I don't know

if there's production stills or whatever images

that have been released They somewhat scared

me away on this one I don't know if that's me

overreacting or being silly. But originally,

I was definitely considering this one to put

in my top 15. And the images kind of scared me

away. I've never had that happen. But I don't

know. Yeah, I don't know. I only saw a little

bit of the one dinosaur who kind of looked like

the creature from up a little bit. So I don't

know. I know it's had some production issues.

I think it was supposed to come out last year,

but got Shuffled around and the director ended

up leaving Pixar. I think it so it's definitely

had its tribulations and You know Pixar has not

been Pixar as of late. So it's so wild card But

I just think it you know, I'm hoping this is

the year Pixar, you know bounces back We'll see

if they can land multiple films in our top 15

or not when all of a sudden done They definitely

have the potential there Matt what about what

about your number? 10 pick, what do you think?

What's gonna start your top 10? All right, my

top, my number 10 is, I don't know, I've said

this a lot, I think this one is legitimately

my worst choice. It's totally, when I wasn't

sure if we were doing 10 or 15, I was like, you

know what, I need to put this in, just, I probably

should have been honorable mention, but I was

like, no, I'm gonna do a bad idea. And my number

10 is The Hateful Eight by Quentin Tarantino.

Which might not even make it out this year. And

also I don't think he's ever had one that hit

over... Well, if adjusted for inflation, Pulp

Fiction's bent was the only one that was over

200 million. But I don't know, man. I wanted

to do really, really well in a... Did Django?

Django? Without the D? Django did fairly well,

like 180. It was like a top 15, I think. But

uh... Don't know it's another Western and Maybe

it'll do better. I think you know I think it

for sure will come out this year. I think The

thing that scared me away is what you alluded

to that none of his films have necessarily You

know been like you know huge two hundred million

dollar type films, but they all have done decent

and I think his fan base can only be growing

especially with his last couple films I know

a lot of people are anticipating it and it has

a huge amount of buzz. A lot of people list this

in their top five most anticipated films for

this year. If we had expanded to our top 20 box

office, I think it would have made my list. I'm

a little scared but you know just based on the

amount of dollars that his past films have made

but I think there's the right amount of buzz

there's the right amount of anticipation and

There's the right amount of build -up given his

last couple films that this could be his first

one to break that mark So I don't necessarily

think you're you're that far off with it. Like

I said, it would definitely be in my top 20 What

do you what do you think about that one Dan?

Is it risky? I mean, it's definitely risk would

you know could definitely pay off it does also

have like a lot of marketable stars including

Shannon Tatum who's like Definitely on a roll

lately. So and again when I'd be similar with

st. James place if that ends up doing that Well,

it'd be I think a very big positive. So especially,

you know seeing a tan tear you know movie get

that much of a Claim and seeing a Western also

getting that much acclaim would be kind of cool

Alright, so we are into our number nine spot.

We'll start this round off here Originally I

probably would put this even higher than nine

but I am slightly afraid of what it is amongst

as far as the release date goes. My number nine

film is going to be Mad Max Fury Road. Again,

this one's a hard one to compare since there

hasn't been a Mad Max film in a long, long time.

I don't know if you can compare it to like the

reboot of the Planet of the Apes. I don't know.

You know, Don of the Planet Apes, the first one

reboot there from an older property, you know,

similar, you know, science fiction slash fantasy

thing that did two hundred and eight million.

I honestly think there's a ton of buzz around

this, and I think it could make a lot of money.

But then you also have to look at when it's coming

out, which is a week after Avengers. And then

a week before Tomorrowland. So it's definitely

going to have some, you know. High -class competition,

so that kind of scared me down to putting it

at my number nine spot So Mad Max Fury Road is

my number nine film for 2015 Dan. What about

you? You actually just mentioned my number nine

and it is Tomorrowland actually I I don't know

what to think about this movie. Honestly, I'm

anticipating it just because like Bradford is

director, but Thinking maybe like, you know,

it could be the science little science fiction

film that could this year again a Disney property

So that's a benefit I'm hearing I feel like there's

a lot of intrigue Into this just because of you

know with Clooney's involvement, so I don't know

it might be a risky pick But I put it at number

nine just because I think it has potential and

it's such like an oddball Maybe it'll be like

something like new and different and unique.

That's something we haven't seen before is maybe

similar to like the guardians effect of last

year where people are craving something different

and they got it that Could be what tomorrowland

is or it could be really too unique and you know

not do well at all. So This was uh, this is one

of the one of the two that I had in my original

draft Before I looked at the release date sound

like I had already mentioned with with Ted to

Had Tomorrowland either a 15th or 14th and like

I just mentioned with Mad Max if I was scared

about Mad Max coming out a week after Avengers

I'm real scared about Tomorrowland coming out

a week after Mad Max and two weeks after Avengers

Yeah, I mean I think it would take Again some

real good buzz right around that time and some

good word -of -mouth I know there's some anticipation

for this but it's also kind of one of those that

isn't given a lot of way And it's hard to predict

because you don't really have anything you can

possibly compare this one to I just worry about

the competition for from Mad Max and Avengers

hurting this one a little too much. That's why

it just dropped out of my 15th spot, but I think

it still has potential Yeah, my worry with Mad

Max is that I I feel like a lot of people would

think it looks too weird. I think a lot of people

love it, but I could also see a general audience

be like, that movie looks really odd. And it's

also rated R, which could also be hard. I mean,

it's not a killer all the time, but it does limit

you on who you can go to your film. Think it

you like you said either one of those is probably

gonna do well one of those is probably gonna

get hurt so it's Yeah, and especially since it's

about at our same spot and number nine so our

number nine face off here Matt what do you got

at your number nine is it gonna join the join

the duel here? My number nine I you know I didn't

even look at any of the release dates other than

a couple of those like is this coming out in

2015 and it's like December it's like And then

I put it on the list anyway. So my number nine,

I think you both already had it, Mission Impossible

5. With the exception of Mission Impossible 3,

all the Mission Impossibles have done really

well, and the fourth one was like the biggest

yet, so maybe. Yeah, like like we talked about

when Dan said it's it depends if it does the

Star Trek every other one or not Where the first

third and fifth do bad and the second and fourth

do good? Obviously, I don't agree disagree with

you too much since Mission Impossible 5 is my

number 10 pick. So I think that was an excellent

pick Matt Yeah, you did one, right? All right

time for number eight. I You know how like then

you might know I don't know how much fantasy

sports you play Okay, I have this thing in fantasy

baseball where I Will lose the entire season

before I have Chicago White Sox players on my

team I Have I don't have those rules, but I other

members of talking in circles Greg and Chuck

are the same way I'm somewhat lying because this

last year I broke that rule when I drafted Jose

Abreu and and ended up Doing very well with that

pick, but normally I try to avoid them that same

type of bizarre mentality almost made me not

put this film on my list. Even though it's probably

going to be a shoe in for the top 15. I just

so much don't even want to say the word. I know

what it is. And this is not based on the Star

Wars. This is not based on the first four of

them. Because none of them I think had enough

to make their they didn't I know they didn't

make their top ten They might have snuck in,

you know in the top 15, but I know the first

four didn't make the top ten But the last one

did 238 million. So I guess I will give my eight

spot to Furious seven. Yeah, someone called TMG

one Mike I Can't believe I have to say those

words, but yes, it'll it's almost like Dan when

you had had to rank transformers last year pretty

high Furious sevens my number eight. That's all

I'm gonna say. I Will say I will talk about Dan

what's your number eight? My number eight is

my next animated film and it is again the other

Pixar movie and that is inside out Like again,

I think I've really liked the trailers of inside

out so far and I think it's like Oh looks like

Pixar is being Pixar again So I'm hoping like

this will you know get that magic back It's also

done by the director of up which was you know

a huge hit even though it's like a concept that

probably shouldn't have you know hit with kids,

it somehow did. So I'm considering that. I feel

like Pixar, even the movies that aren't fantastic

tend to do really well. Like Cars 2 and Marsha's

University weren't like top 10, but they still

did decently well. So if Inside Out can be good,

and it's a Pixar film, good chance of being in

the top 10. So I put it at number... I'm just

gonna timestamp this and just send it to TFU

and Micah, actually, because we've mentioned

Furious 7 and Cars 2 in the same two minute time

period. I'm winning for that crossover, and then,

like, it'll be his little whip. Oh my god. Matt,

before I say anything I shouldn't, what's your

number eight? My number eight is also Inside

Out, for all of the reasons he mentioned. I knew

I needed to have two animated, and Pixar seemed

like a really good choice for the high one. Before

you say too much more about it, I guess I'll

just give it away, because Dan's number eight,

it's your number eight, it's my number seven.

We're on a trifecta of Inside Out, I guess. I

just looked at, like Dan said, all of the other

Pixar stuff. Ratatouille did 206, WALL -E did

223. I think it's right in line with that. 215

to 225, that should be good enough for the top

10. Specifically, I have it one spot higher than

you guys, but not too far off. I think there's

a bunch of animated films that have potential,

but I think this one should be a shoe -in for

top 15 and probably a shoe -in for top 10. It

looks adorable. It does. The only the only risk

I guess is it could be too cerebral but I think

kids will still think it's a cool idea that there's

people in the heads and speaking and I think

it'll appeal to both older and younger audiences.

So I guess the question is how well it as Moses

Jones do. Oh that good. Hey, but that had an

awesome animated series. So on there you go made

13 million dollars. That's no good No, no, that's

like the catering budget for like the for just

one person. Um, all right, uh dan, what's your

number seven? I'm looking at my number seven

and I didn't realize I did this but it is kind

of ironic and my number seven is furious seven

Uh that you mentioned already, so I guess our

seven and eight are just flip -flops smart like

you meant You mentioned that all the other Fast

Five did really well, Fast Six was huge. Now

you're adding in The Transporter with Jason Statham

and The Rock and Ben Diesel. I mean, that's a

lot of testosterone for one film. I know you

hate those movies and I was around the same,

I felt the same way, until Fast Five kind of

changed my mind a little bit and ended up stopping

in car racing film and more into the heist aspect,

which I enjoy just the... You know, the fun craziness

of them all. They're kind of ridiculous, but

I've enjoyed both the last two. See, my problem

is that everyone's saying these last couple are

good, but I feel like I would have to watch the

first four first. I have not. It's not like...

They're not like plot -driven films. It's not

like, I don't understand what's going on. That's

true. It's pretty simple. They're trying to run

away from that. Even more so, in the first one,

Paul Walker's a cop, and in the fifth one, he's

a bank robber. There we go. Oh, I'm in it. Danny

didn't mention it could have a Paul Walker effect

on this as well actually that was what I was

gonna mention what I mentioned that my number

seven was furious seven Okay, this is entirely

ridiculous. We are in green agreeing too much

um and the the thing is is that he said he didn't

know if he did it on purpose I did it on purpose

I put like when I looked at what fast five and

fast furious six cuz they all have dumb names

um yes when i looked up what those two did and

then i was like this is like paul walker's last

last movie um and then also jason statham who's

great at driving cars i was like it's gonna be

top 10 and i was like you know what it's seven

i'm putting it at seven and then and then i actually

did some shuffling and ended up putting my uh

number eight nine ended up going below it and

i was like i don't know if it's gonna do better

but i didn't want to move it from seven It also

helps it is coming out in April which is like,

you know Captain America came out that same time

and it really ranked in tons of Tons of dough

so it could even do better. But I think it just

has there's so many big blockbusters that are

coming out that we're gonna get into, that's

why I didn't go above seven. So, for those of

you that didn't listen to the beginning of the

podcast, this is probably where you can start

tuning out the rest of the way, because we've

gotten to the point where we're just gonna start

repeating each other's picks the rest of the

way, I believe. The interesting stuff is over.

We'll see. My number six... I think that there

is a possibility that it could... get some terrible

reviews right away and lose some steam and Even

if it does I don't think it matters The first

one of this franchise got 400 million second

one Down to 230 and the third one down to 180

But even if it does somewhere in between that

second and third one, it's still gonna be enough

to make our top ten I'm talking about Jurassic

World at number six. Some people might think

it should be higher but there's a lot of competition

out there. I think this has the potential as

a reboot and as coming out or I don't even know

if you call it a reboot. I don't even know what

that word means anymore. It's a re -single. But

being that it's so much later, you would think

that there's going to be similar buzz, maybe

not the same buzz as the original original had

because obviously it was something we had never

seen before and it had that working for it and

now we've seen three movies of it. but I would

say it has to do better in the second and the

third one and the second one did 230 million

dollars so I think this one brings in right around

250 which should I think is good enough for the

sixth spot so I'm going with Jurassic World at

number six and I will just say ditto I guess

one of the things I also would add is the fact

that it does have the Chris Pratt factor, who

is, you know, he's becoming a huge star after

Guardians of the Galaxy, so that might help it

some. So, yeah, I put it at number 6. Dan, I

think we've come full circle, and we've completely

escaped 2014. It didn't even happen. We're friends.

We're... All right. We're in common again. Matt,

what do you have at number 6? My number 6, I

think, is gonna be... So... When I was making

my list, I was like, you know what? There needs

to be at least one thing that's not franchise,

not obvious. This is probably the worst one I

could have chose. You've already done that three

times. You've already had your worst pick. I

know. I'm not looking at the list below it, and

that's what the problem is. I went with The Martian.

It's really Scott. It looks interesting. Maybe

it'll do well. Maybe it's not top ten, but you

know because you look at gravity gravity did

really well you look at interstellar and seller

didn't You know and I think it's similar to those

two so maybe it'll do well. Maybe it won't I

Don't know fingers crossed. I mean even interstellar

did decent I mean it did I mean it didn't do

as well as Dan and I had predicted But it did

do 180 million which is good. I also looked at

something like Prometheus I know it's a little

different in this franchise related, but it only

did 126 I don't know if you can compare much

to Martian if that gets good reviews or something

and it becomes Ridley Scott's comeback film Then

you know it could gain enough steam to put it

in the top 15 top 10 You know range if it does

what Ridley Scott's been doing recently Then

it's not gonna have much of a chance. I think

it's a right around the When I did mine, I aired

on the side of people being scared because of

Ridley Scott's recent work and I had it down

at the 150 million mark. You got to take chances

and I like the chances you're taking, Matt. You'll

see how much chance I'm taking with number five.

Moving into five then, we're into our top five

where it gets less and less interesting as each

pick goes on. I don't know which of the 20 plus

films I am supposed to compare this one to. I

guess I should go with the most recent, which

did a boatload of money at the box office. I

think it's the best Bond film at the box office

yet, which was Skyfall, which actually eclipsed

the 300 million mark. So with Spectre coming

off of the heels of Skyfall and with a villain

like Christoph Waltz. I don't understand how

this one doesn't do just as good as Skyfall.

If Skyfall did 304, I'm putting Spectre at 315

million. A 10 to 11 million dollar increase,

which to me is good enough to make Spectre be

the fifth highest grossing film of 2015. Dan,

what do you have in your number five? My number

five, I'm guessing this will probably be higher

on the people's list. I wasn't sure where to

put it. Again... My highest rated or my highest

ranked animated film and it's other two films.

Well, I guess you would consider it within the

same universe and you know Despicable Me 1 and

2 which were both huge juggernauts and These

are obviously the standout characters of those

two films and those are the minions. So they're

like Like a marketing tool You know dream because

they're they're everywhere and people love them.

So I have them at number five and Maybe it's

not high enough in some people's minds, but I

don't know I was a little bit more I felt stronger

about the other film I Like we've made the joke

multiple times that movie is already making money

So it does have a head start on everybody. Um

Yeah, there's not much to to argue about that.

I'm going to save my thoughts just for a quick

second though and let Matt go with his number

five first. So I looked up I googled what you

know what what are sequels and what are franchise

films for this year and I saw Spectre and I was

like that doesn't sound familiar and I didn't

open it and that might have been a mistake because

I thought I thought the bond was going to be

a little bit further away than than it is. So

I feel bad about that. And then Minions, I wrote

down and then lost the piece of paper and forgot

about it. So my number five is just everyone

else's number six, which is Jurassic World. I

don't think that's a bad pick. I hope you don't.

Since I had it one away. Yeah, I like it. And

then I'll echo what Dan said with his number

five at my number four, which is going to be

Minions. I don't know. I don't know what happened

with that second Despicable Me film. But it was

the juggernaut that you couldn't have predicted.

I think if we were doing a box office prediction

that year, we wouldn't have have gotten that.

You know, Despicable Me 1 did 250 and then Despicable

Me 2 jumped all the way to 368. Like that is

insane. It was in theaters, I believe for 12

months that year. Or possibly 14 months. I don't

even know I think it was still making money like

four months into the next year So I can only

guess that it's gonna Stay or I mean, I I don't

think this book will be too was as good as the

first one But that obviously didn't matter and

now you have a movie based on the favorite characters

from those films. I think the trailer Is good.

I think it's not gonna, you know dissuade people

from seeing it. I think kids love this franchise

and I love this franchise, so I hope it continues

to make money. I don't understand how it made

as much money as it did, but it's coming out

in July. There is a little bit of competition.

Inside Out will have come out three weeks prior,

I believe, and Pixels comes out two weeks after.

It's the minions and it's not going to be stopped.

So that's why I'm going to put it at my number

four spot I think somewhere around the 330 million

marks. So that's what I'm going with my number

four damn Yeah, I just hope it's not like the

how to train your dragon two of this year where

you think it's gonna be like even better Don't

say that Ends up disappointing Though I mean

I loved how to train your dragon two financially

as well My number four I probably just get I'm

gonna have to explain why I'm not putting it

higher more so than why I'm putting it number

four, and especially because the last two films

were the biggest movies of the year, and that's

The Hunger Games, Marking J, part two. I guess

when you have the three other films that I'm

gonna get into, I just felt like this is the

biggest competition that The Hunger Games has

ever had. This year was Guardians of the Galaxy,

which was a surprise hit, so I do think it's

gonna do really well. It'll probably match what

it did last year, but I just think the other

movies that are... coming out that I'll get to

are just gonna best it. And I wonder if, I know

a lot of people had a lot of reservations about

the final book, especially how it ended, so maybe

the reviews won't be as strong. I mean, I know

the reviews from part one weren't as strong as

the other two films were, at least mixed in some

way. So I put it at number four. Maybe I'm putting

it too low, but that was just my mindset. I don't

think you're that far off. Matt, what's your

number four? My number four was originally my

number eight or nine, and I think it belongs

there more, but I needed to make room for Mission

Impossible, so I bumped it down, and that's Ant

-Man. I mean, maybe it'll Guardians of the Galaxy.

It's got a lot of similar things. I mean, it

belongs in everyone's top 15 at the very least,

but it ended up at number four because I didn't

have another place for it. You could have something.

You know that we're missing out on I mean we

both have it on our list a little bit lower But

you know, we didn't predict Guardians Galaxy

making as much money as it did and like you said,

it's a comic book world We're just living in

it. So Definitely a shot there. I will then go

right back to Dan's number four pick at my number

three Hunger Games you look at the first two,

you know, which both made over 400 million But

then it dropped so drastically, drastically.

It only made $333 million last year. Man, you

mean that's tough. They're going to be... It

was only... How do they manage? I think it's

going to be close to that. I don't think it's

going to regain that $400 million status unless

people go crazy because it's the last one or

something. I don't know. I think it's got some

pretty stiff competition this year. I could be

wrong having it ranked higher than Minions. That

could be a mistake on my part. I don't know.

But I think it comes in at number three. It's

one of those films that would have been the once

again the box office king if it wasn't going

against a couple other films. So I will put it

at right around the three hundred fifty three

hundred sixty million mark in the number three

spot. Dan, I want to jump in because it's my

number three and I'm afraid of what one may hit

Dan's top three. That's not in our top three

because it's got to be one of them. So that's

my number three. It's going to make money. Well,

my number three has been mentioned already, and

it was in Spectre, the James Bond movie. And

the reason I think it's going to do even better,

because James Bond has such a gigantic following,

Skyfall was such a huge hit, it helped that it

was also really good, adding Kristoff Walls.

And also I think having Spectre may bring a lot

of old -school James Bond fans back again. I

know a lot of them were hesitant to cry against

Bond because it was, you know, taking... the

franchise in a different direction, so maybe

some of those that were not seeking out will

come back because of Spectre being... you know,

coming back to the Bond franchise movie -wise

since the 1960s. So it's a huge, you know, huge

deal. There's rumors that Blofeld will be played

by Waltz, which again may excite some classic

Bond fans. So, and if this was worldwide, I think

I might even put a, well, I probably wouldn't

put it any higher, but I think it would be a

she -win for number three. But yeah, so that's

kind of why it went. I went back and forth, but

I just, I'm, I'm just thinking that... It will

that Bond franchise is just you know so iconic

then it'll it'll it'll all come together this

final I'm guessing will be the final film for

I mean I I hope you're right in a sense I mean

I hope it does Just as well as skyfall and better

because I would love to see that You know kind

of be a springboard for Bond films that had you

know kind of been miring around For a while during

during the Pierce Brosnan era, and I'm not saying

anything good or bad about Pierce Brosnan, but

the films were just there, it seemed like. And

then we really, with Skyfall, jumped into a different

category and a different kind of buzz, and I'm

hoping it can go off of that. I think marketing

is going to be key in this one too, and how exactly

they market it and what do the trailers show,

what do the things show to create that buzz.

I'm hoping they don't show a lot. I'm hoping

it leaves it more mysterious. Yeah, I mean Sony

certainly needs it to do well because they've

had a couple a pretty bad year So I'm sure they're

banking on it. Hopefully making as much money

as so I mean not a lot of different films mentioned

in there in our ten through three just different

orders for the most part with a few with a few

interesting ones in there And then it gets down

to our top two. Obviously everybody knows what

they are I guess the only question is what order

do they go in and I've heard a lot of people

that think it's hands down one way and a lot

of people that think it's hands down the other

way. We don't necessarily need to go and take

turns. We'll just all kind of talk about this

together. If you look at the past Star Wars films,

you do have a wide range. most of them floating

around the 280 to 380 million mark now is that

fair because you're Judging against a bunch of

things that aren't adjusted for inflation And

I think that's where the question comes with

Star Wars obviously it probably has more buzz

than any Star Wars film ever has Is that a fair

statement? It's tough. I mean Phantom menace

is up there. It's you know that had a lot Well,

and if you look at it the first one came out

and made for and this is not adjusted for inflation

The first one came out and made 460 All right,

then it went down at 290 and then 300 so right

around the same range then obviously the buzz

that was behind the Phantom menace brought it

all the way to 474 and then the next two dropped

down to the you know 310 380 a mere 310 and 380

like I said before And now you've had this big

weight and another one's coming out. I mean typically

the first one of these you know that comes out

after a long pause has done phenomenal and there's

just a ton of buzz with disney getting control

of this with the original cast coming back with

it whole i think a lot of people are putting

their faith that this is going to be more like

the original three and less like the the prequel

trilogy so you have a lot of things going on

with that and how do you compare it to um you

know the adjusted for inflation numbers that

would be the other ones if you look at the domestic

gross for a new hope Even though it was at 460

if you adjusted it's at 1 .4 billion And then

if you look at Empire Strikes Back it adjusts

to 814 million and return of the Jedi at 780

million So I mean can you compare it to those

numbers or or what do you do? You know even Phantom

Menace adjusted for inflation is at 750 so That's

just a hard game to play and then if you look

at the Avengers the last one made 623 million

So, I mean, I don't know if there's a right answer.

I don't know if Star Wars has more buzz than

Avengers, but It's hard to say so Dan, where

did you go? Which one's two? Which one's one?

What was your thought process? So in giddy right

now, I just waiting for them to buy their own

small country because of how much money they're

gonna be making after this year But I like I

wouldn't like it is like you said with those

numbers It's hard to really decide it and like

I mentioned when we said like the The theories

and what we used to go into this year. What were

we thinking? And the biggest thing I said is,

you know Trust Marvel and that's what I did.

So I went Avengers number one in Star Wars number

two just because I think we're living in a comic

book world right now. That is what people want.

And I could see just Avengers dominating like

it did previously. My one worry though was like,

I think with the first Avengers, it was such

an event. First time anything like that happened.

Are you gonna have that again? But then they

just made a talking tree and a raccoon, one of

the biggest movies of the year. So can they do

wrong right now? I don't know. So I just have

more faith in Marvel. You know, it's Star Wars.

It's still gonna be number two. I I think it's

like I said, it's a coin flip You really can't

tell what it and I don't know. I just went with

Marvel basically all I Yeah, I'm gonna go before

I'll let Matt kind of bring it all home for us,

but uh Man when we decided we were gonna redo

the box office again for this next year and look

back at it, etc You know, obviously I had to

start making my list and the first time we even

talked about it I wrote Star Wars and Avengers

and you know in the one and two spots and then

Decided I'd come back to it at a later date and

fill out the rest And ever since that first time

I wrote it down I had Avengers in the first spot

I wasn't necessarily considering the inflation

numbers for Star Wars And the buzz that I think

has been created, you know from the trailer and

this that and the other and I've just I had Avengers

in the one spot from the moment we started this

project until this week. And I decided at the

last second to flip it. Maybe it's the Star Wars

fanboy in me. I'm more of a Star Wars guy than

a comic book guy. So maybe I'm just hoping it

will beat it. I don't know. I just think there's

all kinds of buzz. I think it's coming out in

December, which means it can just dominate not

only December. But it can dominate January and

February if it wants to. And we'll probably have

to delay the record of our 2016 list a good month

just to let Star Wars continue to bring in the

money like we're having to do with American Sniper

right now. So I will flip flop what Dan said.

I could be wrong. Like I said, I had Avengers

at number one for the longest time, but I'm putting

Star Wars number one and Avengers number two.

Matt, what do you got? Oh, I messed up. No, I

didn't I put Star Wars number one Avengers number

two for like all the reasons you guys said like

All of them Star Wars is the thing. I like a

little bit more than comics They're like my two

favorite things as far as my nerdom goes I think

The whole 20 was has it been 20 years it hasn't

been it's been like 15 years since Phantom Menace

And that was huge, and I think this one's gonna

be huge again I guess I got my guess 480 million

isn't gonna be enough to beat Avengers 2 if it

gets near to Avengers 1 but I Don't know man.

I mean everyone jumps ship on December and I

think they were right to do it and I think Star

Wars is gonna be number one is it I guess let

me ask this question and this might be a simple

one for Star Wars But this will be the highest

grossing Star Wars film of all time, correct?

Mean gotta be since none of the other ones are

I mean not taking the adjusted for inflation

numbers I mean, I don't think it beats that but

if you're just taking it what the highest one

right now is Phantom Menace at 474 It's gonna

beat that wait. Yeah, I would I would assume

The only way I could I thought the original and

at 480 But the only way I could see it not being

is if subsequent re -releases of like the originals

like, like, hey, come and see, you know, two

weeks out, come see one, two, or the first three

and then the... two weeks or one week out, come

see the next three. I'm hoping for a seven movie

marathon that a theater puts on that's literally

watch the first six and then stay for a midnight

showing of the seven. No, I'm just kidding. Oh,

my God. I mean, I could see some doing that.

There will. A theater somewhere will do that.

I mean, I know theaters that are doing like a

marathon for the Best Picture Showcase, like

all eight films at once, so it could. But can

and then if you look at it I asked if Star Wars

will be the highest -ranking Star Wars movie

of all time will Avengers age of Ultron beat

the first Avengers I Don't know I I don't know

like it's hard to tell it's I think Like I keep

saying I think that the Avengers the first one

was such like oh my god This is actually happening.

Like it was like you can't believe this is a

thing that's happening I don't know if you're

gonna get that with a second one. Maybe you will

I mean they tend the sequels tend to do better

with more films for the most part, you know Avenger

or Captain America 2 did tremendously more than

the first one and I think Thor 2 did more than

the first one So if it continues that trend,

yeah, but I I just wonder if it's just gonna

be like Oversaturation a little bit, but maybe

I'm wrong the the first Avengers did 623 million

Does either one of these films break the 700

million mark? I Wouldn't I wouldn't put my star

was coming on 3d 3d 2d. I think you can see it

in 1d somehow Just the scrolls Mean, I guess

if you would say one would be Star Wars Possibly

just because it's such a you know, it's Star

Wars. Yeah. Well, yeah, I don't know. It's hard

700 million is so much money If a film's gonna

make it it's gonna be this year and I like you

to mention with Star Wars the benefit is like

all of January's there for the taking and So

it's like it's it could plow through that month

even like the Avengers even though it's the Avengers

it still has a lot to contend with that could,

you know, bring it down. So I'm sure Star Wars

will get repeat viewing. If it's good, that's

the key. Like, if Star Wars isn't good, hopefully

that's not the case. But if it's not good, then

no. But if it's great, and it is the level of

the original Star Wars, you know, it could maybe

be the biggest thing that came out. Because Avatar

came out the same time when that, and then that

just kind of, it never had a huge opening weekend,

but it just kept, like, Going and going and going

and going and like, you know the same thing can

happen. I don't I wasn't even good. I Don't actually

think there are any movies coming out in 2016

until March. So I Think they've vacated the first

two months of 2016 just as a precaution. Yeah,

nothing comes out to the right What we're going

to do for our question this week, we're just

going to ask the listeners, all you guys out

there that are maybe still listening, unless

you thought this was going to be boring once

we got to the top five, we're going to ask you

to pick which one of us got it the best. Which

one's going to have the best prediction? I'm

going to turn out with the most correct choices

in the top 15. We'll post each person's list

in the episode post, but real quick, we'll run

down our list from 15 to one so you can kind

of get it in a snapshot. I'll start here with

my 15 spot. was Ant -Man, then I went with Insurgent,

number 13 Fantastic Four, 12 with Cinderella,

11 with St. James Place, then I went with Mission

Impossible 5, followed by Mad Max Fury Road,

Furious 7, Inside Out, Jurassic World, Spectre,

Minions, Mockingjay Part 2, Avengers Age of Ultron,

and Star Wars The Force. Awakens. Dan, what was

your 15 through 1? My number 15 was 50 Shades

of Grey, 14 was Ted 2, 13 The Jungle Book, 12

Mission Impossible 5, 11 Ant -Man, 10 The Good

Dinosaur, 9 Tomorrowland, 8 Inside Out, 7 Furious

7, 6 Jurassic World, 5 Minions, 4 The Hunger

Games, Mockingjay Part 2, Three, Spectre. Two,

Star Wars The Force Awakens. And number one,

Avengers Age of Ultron. Matt? I started off with

Terminator Genesis, then Hotel Transylvania 2,

Fantastic Four, Jupiter Ascending, Ted 2, Hateful

Eight at number 10, Mission Impossible 5, Inside

Out, Furious 7, The Martian. My number five was

Jurassic World, then Ant -Man. Hunger Games Mockingjay

Part 2, Avengers 2 Age of Ultron, and then finally

Star Wars Episode 7 Force Awakens. Alright, so

let us know who's list is the best, who has the

best chance of wearing the crown when we do this

at the end of the year or in March after Star

Wars has stopped making money. Dan, any closing

thoughts or anything you want to put out, honorable

mentions you want to mention or anything like

that? Well, I pretty much mentioned every one

that I didn't put on. Like I said, I thought

about Cinderella, Mad Max, Terminator, and Insurgent.

So I didn't go with any of those. So I was looking

to see if there would be one small indie or something

surprising that could come out. I didn't really

see anything that really caught my eye. But maybe

the Jenny McCarthy movie, Spy, just because she

is a box office beast. I had that in my top 30,

I think. That's the only other ones that I don't

think we mentioned too much. I didn't know what

to predict with pixels I wasn't sure how much

money that would make or if it would get bad

reviews right away. I'm not sure on that the

man from uncle I don't really know if there's

a fan base for that really in our day and age,

but Something like that could be surprising.

I didn't know about like you said spy or one

that I thought could be a sleeper Outside of

50 shades of gray with you mentioned but Chappy

I wasn't sure if that gets enough Buzz around

and word -of -mouth if that would have the chance

of something else somehow slipping into the top

15 So those are some of the other ones I considered

Matt anything that you consider that just didn't

quite make your list I did not do enough research

clearly I had meant to put in minions and the

divergent sequel Caught my eye, but I didn't

think it was gonna do well enough Other than

that I didn't have too many honorable mentions,

and I've forgotten them because I deleted them

That's all right. The only other animated film

that I wasn't quite sure how it would do would

be DreamWorks, which I believe is still slotted

for 2015, which would be Boo, the other world

leader. I don't remember what the rest of the

title is, but it's a DreamWorks picture. Obviously,

I don't think it compared to Minions and what

Pixar is putting out there, but I thought maybe

it would have an outside shot. I don't know.

I also considered SpongeBob. I forgot to mention

that. But only that's a that's actually I Mean

that makes sense. I mean that does have a huge

following it has Cartoons for 25 years, I think

I looked at the the first movie because this

is actually the second spongebob movie as much

as they they try to hide that fact and the first

one only made like a hundred million or something

like that, so I The other thing that sometimes

does make a decent amount of money and slips

in there is Everyone's only you'll see a horror

film And I didn't necessarily see anything, because

most of them are sequels. You have like Insidious

Chapter 3 and Conjuring 2 and stuff like that.

I just didn't see one that I thought could make

it in there. Also, I know there's a lot of buzz

about Pitch Perfect 2 coming out. But the first

one, just as well as it was received by a lot

of people, it didn't make that much money. So

I was way scared to even consider putting that

out there. All right, so go ahead and go to geekcastradio

.com find the episode post for Weekend at the

Movies and let us know who got it right and did

we forget something Completely ridiculous that

we all should have had on our list. If so, let

us know What that film is so we can kick ourselves?

metaphorically figuratively literally, I don't

know I made mistakes. And then stay tuned for

some interesting content that will be coming

on a more regular basis here at Weekend at the

Movies. We're going to be giving you some new

ideas here for 2015, but we're going to get back

in the flow here real quickly so we won't leave

you hanging as long as we did in the second half

of 2014. Dan, thanks for joining us to relook

at the 2014 list and to make our silly predictions

for 2015. And Matt. Your your cherry has been

broken with the box office predictions. So You

you will have no excuses when you come ready

for your 2016 list in a year. Oh, I will I'm

just bad at it Nonsense and next up from us.

You will hear something that's very unique I

think that we will obviously feature in the weekend

at the movies feed even though it is a cross

collaboration like something we have never done

before and That is going to be when we get together

and do a draft I guess this is the first time

we're actually saying that on air, but we are

we have formed a film podcasting fantasy league

folks and We're gonna be bringing all kinds of

special guests. I'm not gonna announce who they

all are But if you stay tuned for our next episode

You will hear the 12 members of the film fantasy

league and you will get to hear a live recording

unless It becomes a complete train wreck of Us

drafting our teams which will consist of ten

actors or actresses and one director as we compete

against each other both at the box office and

In the award season and we're gonna lay all of

that out next episode So if you're curious as

to what the ground rules will be And how people

will get points if you're curious on to as to

what? Incredible people we have lined up in this

league or if you just want to see what the picks

are themselves stay tuned for that next episode.

I guess I can announce two of the people because

they're here with me right now and maybe give

a quick thought as to what is approaching here

real quickly, Dan. What are your thoughts on

this whole project and are you scared? Are you

excited? What's your thoughts heading to the

draft? I'm excited and interested because it's

such an interesting idea and it's hard because

there's No, nothing to really base it off of.

You know, it's like an entire new concept that

you really have no idea what's a good pick or

not, or like how it's really going to work out.

So it should be a lot of fun. And I'm looking

forward to just being able to record, which could

be just all types of craziness. kinds of craziness

could definitely break out. Matt, you're not

going to be alone in this one as far as the first

venture into this because this will be all of

our first venture into this. So we will all be

making all kinds of incredible mistakes and I'm

sure there's going to be a lot of razzing when

people pick people too high or people forget

people or whatever and someone comes in with

that sneak sneak pick or something like that.

But what are your thoughts heading into the first

ever fantasy film league draft, Matt? I think

it's not even a week away and I've got a list

that if there was no one else to pick my choices

would be pretty solid, but I do need to add another

30 or 40 names just so I don't run out of people.

Yeah, that's what I'm waiting for. The moment

when my list is gone and I still have like three

more picks to make and I'm just scrambling for

names that I don't even know. But it'll be interesting

and like I said, you do want to tune into this

because we have some Awesome people involved

in this and you're gonna want to hear who they

are and I think it'll just build the excitement

and hopefully It'll set up a whole year of cross

podcasting razzin as we Give each other a hard

time and we will also kind of a side note There

will be a league page on geek cast radio Comm

that Steve's gonna put together with with my

help a little bit and we will be keeping live

standings on that page So at any time you can

go and check out Who's on whose team and who's

in first place and who's in last place and all

that kind of fun stuff So it's gonna be fun.

Hopefully it'll all work out if it's a train

wreck I apologize in advance, but we like to

try things that we've never tried before and

see how Evilly we can fail at them. So Alright,

anything else guys before we close this episode

out? That's it for me Alright, so Perfect. So

tune in next time to hear the first ever fantasy

film podcast draft After that, we'll be getting

back into some regular episodes at Weekend at

the Movies. We'll see you next time.
