Saved By the Bell: The New Class

About this Episode
It's time for the telecast brought to you by
the Geekcast Radio Network As he said, I'm your
host Optimus Solo and I'd like to say hello and
welcome to the 24th episode of the Telecast brought
to you by the Geekcast Radio Network. Today we're
continuing our kids sitcom block with the last
of our series of Saved by the Bell entries and
with me as the husband for most of this block
to talk about that today is none other than TFG1
Mike. Hello. Hello, yes, there's 11 episodes
left in season one of the telecast. Yes, and
we're only we're under 10 for actual like regular
episodes So well yeah, but I'm winding down Before
you continue that thought let's uh, I know listeners
in on what the two of us will be talking about
That's right folks. We are talking about Saved
by the Bell the Rejects. I mean the new class
and before we get too far into our discussion
here's some quick background information on the
new class. It debuted in 93 as Saved by the Bell
Classic was ending and simultaneously with Saved
by the Bell the college years as far as when
they're starting. Ran from 93 to 2000 on NBC.
It's a 30 minute show and it lasted Seven did
I see that right? Yes seven seasons and a hundred
and forty three Episodes for those you that don't
know what saved by the bell the new classes basically
take saved by the bell classic Change all the
characters into new characters and try to continue
with what they were doing same formula same Few
other things but uh, it's basically a complete
spin -off ripoff of saved by the bell classic
so Let's start this trainwreck right away. What
are all your sighs for, Mike? What do you remember
about the show? Why does this series exist? Well,
to answer that question, basically the creator
of Saved by the Bell and all those people said,
we have a problem. Saved by the Bell is super
popular. We need to keep this going. Anybody
have ideas? And they had two ideas. Let's do
a spinoff and let's do a sequel. or whatever
you want to call it. So they came up with the
idea of doing the college years where they follow
the kids into college and at the same time let's
keep going with the high school just with new
students. So that's why we have these two because
Zach and all them had to grow up. See, we've
already covered college years. College years
was awesome. College years was great. This fucking
sucks. So they were 50 -50 out of there. What
do we do with the Saved by the Bell franchise?
They got half of it right and half of it awfully
wrong. I would say it's more like 90 -10. So
to all those, before you give your other thoughts,
to all those people that are wondering why or
where the hate's coming from, the only people
that like this show, I'm going to go out on a
limb here, are people who grew up on it, who
did not know - And people that didn't know about
the original show. Who did not know what Saved
by the Bell classic was because Saved by the
Bell, the original show, not Good Morning Miss
Bliss, but Saved by the Bell, the original show.
Oh, yeah. is is about a thousand times better
than this and you the only way you can like this
is if you didn't know the other one existed in
my opinion you know so there's your spoiler alert
we are going to hate this episode yes the this
episode is going to be be filled with what with
hate um challenge out there though if people
are upset with my hate all i'm asking is for
them to send donate DVDs of the later seasons
not season one but anything season two and above
For this this series send them to me and I'll
give them a watch and maybe I'll change my mind
So that's the challenge if you like this show
prove me wrong send me DVDs Yeah What are your
thoughts? Okay What was the original air date
for the very first episode? Do you know off the
top of your head? I know it was 93, but... It
was the fall of 93, I believe. See, the thing
of it is, is... Like, say... What they should
have done was... I know college years only lasted
one year, right? 93 to 94? Right. They should
have waited for this series until 94. So Screech
could have aged another year and they could have
put him in some sort of role in the new class
with like, as some sort of guidance, not guidance,
not guidance, I don't know if anybody wants guidance
from Screech, but some sort of like non -teaching
role but still working at the school, maybe -
He could have ran the max. Huh? He could have
ran the max. The Screech, lovely. Yeah, he could
have been in charge of something like that. He
shouldn't have been in school though. But, I
mean, something where Screech was teaching a
new generation or something like that, what they
had him doing in this, because it aired at the
same time as college years, was just so fucking
stupid. Outside of building in Screech, I know
none of the characters. Do you remember watching
this though at all? remember watching like the
first three episodes and I after the first episode
I was like When's college years coming back on
and I watched the second episode and I'm like
mmm again I would this was obvious though to
anybody outside of the thing like when saved
by the bell I've said this before when saved
by the bells I mean I wasn't alone everybody
was like wait a second this can't end you know
we got to have some more this can't be you know
we got to figure out a way to keep this going
and when you hear the ideas of we're gonna follow
the same people to college I was like yes I can
get on board with this right from the get -go
and then when there was like we're gonna do a
regular save by the bell with just new people
right away I'm like this is gonna be terrible
yeah like I don't know understand why they thought
one of the why they thought this idea was gonna
work I mean I guess it did last for seven seasons
so maybe it worked a little bit but This is just
not the same. It shouldn't even be called Saved
by the Bell, except for they're using the same
hallways and the same principle. I don't understand
how this show lasted. Maybe it's because people
like bad TV. I don't understand how this show
lasted seven fucking years. Yeah. Well, you know,
I remember, like you said, watching. I gave it
a chance. I watched a few episodes the first
season, mainly because it was back to back with
another show that I liked a little bit even better.
You know, so I gave it a chance and I watched
some of the first season. But the first season
was so bad that I never got past that I understand
that it's supposed to apparently improve as the
seasons go along But the first season was too
bad for me to give it that second chance Yeah
No, no, I know I agree. It's it's one of those
things where So we did watch this we both watched
it when we were kids we were I was about 12 ish
When it debuted so I was still you know of an
age that should have been I'm the demographic
I am the target audience here folks Yeah, I mean
we were we were the target audience not through
its entire run But we were for the beginning
of it You know we're junior high kids fifth fifth
sixth graders or whatever when it starts and
We watched some of it and we both came to the
same conclusion that that's terrible. It sucks
So let's get right into a brief Talk of the who's
who and basically what we're gonna do is we're
just gonna talk about the characters that we
remember We will get more into all the individual
characters a little bit later on I'll let you
start because I know there's two characters for
sure that you have So I'll let you talk about
those two We've already talked about them in
in episode 23 episode 22 and talk about them
in this show. I know but There's no difference
though, that's the problem. The two characters
that they brought over that they continue the
journey on with is Principal Belding and Screech.
Screech from Good Morning Miss Bliss, and I know
that's technically not in the saved universe,
it came before it and all that, but for Screech's
purposes, he started there. He is the only one
that has made it to all of them. Exactly. As
regular. Exactly so screech from Good Morning
Miss Bliss through Saved Classic through college
years and now this might take that back building
made all of them to just not the Yeah, just not
the pilot of Good Morning Miss Bliss. Yeah Screech
is the equivalent to Sam Witwicky because Except
Screech is ten times worse because you don't
throughout every single series. He gets no overall
character development He doesn't grow he doesn't
they they don't do anything with him They still
make him the class fucking clown the the moron.
Oh, yeah, it's just it's just Screech Oh, just
ignore it. It's just Screech blah blah blah They
don't make they don't give him anything to do
in the new class They just say hey Dustin Diamond
show up and just play Screech how you play Do
your stick. Yeah, it's kind of like Mark Hamill
and the Joker from the DC Animated Universe.
In the original Batman the Animated Series, Mark
Hamill played the Joker as like really manic
and funny and just really out the wall crazy.
When they brought him back to do Batman Beyond
Return of the Joker, when they brought the Joker
back, they're like, Mark, you got to tone the
manic stuff down. We want a darker Joker. That's
a character turn. If you want a darker, still
funny, but not like... high up here and you know
all that but screech has no fucking character
development whatsoever from the only the only
character development i can even see with him
is minor and it's between good morning this place
and the classic series realm but just because
it was so freaking young good morning this place
so they had no yeah little stuff that they did
with them but and as i said before i'm sorry
to interrupt you but if they had If they had
just focused on college years from 93 to 94 and
then started new class in 94 and have it maybe
ran 94 to 2000 or 94 to 2001. If they had started
it a year later after you finished Screech in
the college years, it would have been so much
better because you could have come up with an
actual story of, hey, Screech graduated college.
But because he loves Bayside so much, he's going
to come back to Bayside and he's going to be
a teacher's assistant. He's going to be a volleyball
coach. He's going to be something. You're going
to actually do something with him instead of
just making him the goddamn moron class clown
that he's always been. I still think owner of
the Macs would have been the best. I'm just saying
the weird thing is though that he was playing
the college years and the new class at least
for the the first year this at the same time
and his character was way more Or like it was
way better on college years That's what yeah
see that's what character was way better on that
than it was on new class and I can't quite understand
or explain it but Geez and he gets worse as the
seasons go by with the new class I've seen some
clips from him in like the later season season
five six and seven of the new class and he's
by that point awful Yeah, like he's lost it at
that point. I think that was the beginning of
him going crazy And so even his acting is terrible
I'm not saying he was ever like a fantastic actor,
but some of his acting even in the new class
gets awful Like there's a clip on YouTube of
him spilling coffee on a jukebox of Belding's
like $10 ,000 jukebox and the way he spills it
is so fake looking Yeah, it's like come on really
Belding on the other hand I like in the new class
I actually like Belding. I like Belding in every
incarnation I've seen him in because his character
just the type of character he is It and the fact
that he was the same playing the same age kind
of person the entire time He's always been an
adult. It didn't seem as as forced as having
screech who is obviously Different age than we're
used to and doesn't really fit an age that should
be in the school at this point Doesn't really
have a place here. It just seemed forced with
screech. Whereas building that's what he's been
doing the entire time. So it just seemed more
natural Yeah, I mean building I From what I remember
of seeing of the series I liked building building
never needed to change at that time of You know
filming these these television shows because
he was playing the same character You didn't
need a whole lot of character development for
building You just needed to stick with you know
you just you couldn't have him You know do a
complete 180 and come in you know an all -black
leather motorcycle outfit and an eye patch and
be like I'm Mr. Belding and I'm not going to
be a pirate today. Right. You know, you couldn't
have him do something like that, but the way
that Belding was from Good Morning Miss Bliss,
at least after the pilot and up until new class,
you don't need him to change as a character.
Although I guess he didn't appear there. I've
been wrong like three times and I've changed
my stance on this. He really wasn't in the college
years. So Screech is really the only person that
was a regular in all of them. Yeah. I forgot
about that. but you know building doesn't need
to change because that's he's the principle he's
the steady person yeah it almost would have been
better if screech wasn't there to me oh yeah
so i don't know i mean maybe they could have
got some other maybe they could have focused
more it almost would have to me would have been
a good time to almost take a step in reverse
not adapt the good morning miss bliss uh like
philosophy or strategy, but it would have been
better to me in the new class if they would have
taken a step back and almost reverted more to
having a few more steady teachers where they
focused on some more storylines like that. Like
have a few regular teachers and then they have
the kids not necessarily be like front and center,
but kind of sharing the star. Yeah. I don't know.
And the thing of it is though, you know, I know
we're going to get into this here in a minute,
but outside of building and screech, None of
the people that played any of the new class characters
None of the, like, I've gone down the script
information. I don't, I mean, out of stuff that
they might have done in the last, I don't know,
five or ten years now, back then, I didn't know
who the hell they were. I mean, you could have
- Well, and that was the problem, is - Yeah.
You had no, that's what I'm saying, maybe if
they would have found a teacher that could have
been a star, or somebody else, the problem is
they have no star. It's a show with no star.
Because it's like Save By The Bell Classic without
Zack. But see that's what they were going for
here. I know but it's just terrible Well, what
I'm saying is you said it's a show with no star
They wanted to because Dustin was so hooked up
on oh, I love doing saved by the bell Give me
more say by the bell. It was their star He technically
is the star of the new class. But that's what
I'm saying. That's the problem. That's the big
issue. The big issue is they promoted him as
the star, but they gave the character of Screech
no development whatsoever. It almost would have
been better, and I know this seems weird because
I understand the choice they made. They said
Screech because he's the comedic guy. To me,
if this show would have had Slater or Zack, their...
They have enough presence, they have enough character,
and they could have actually been somewhat the
serious character, but they would have had the
star power, and you could have let some of the
students be the comedic relief. Like, to me,
it would have worked if they would have chosen
Zack or Slater, or if they would have found any
of the students that could actually be a star.
Yeah. Streets should not do it. Yeah, exactly.
And the thing of it is, though, you know, you
look at... Actors, you know, even young actors
and actresses back in 93, 94, you know, throughout
that whole generation from 93 to 2000. You look
at all the actors that were kids back then, I'm
sure you could have gotten some well -known actors
that we know now. back then as kids to do these
roles because I don't recognize any of these
people. Well I'm just picturing like Zach coming
back as like a student teacher or a young teacher
or like a dean of students or like Slater coming
back as like a coach or like a vice principal
or something like that and them being more the
serious side but then being able to relate to
their stories when they were in Bayside or whatever
and kind of taking kids under their wing whereas
the kids would be the comedic relief I could
have bought into that. That would have been a
hell of a lot better show than what we got. I
agree. The only problem with Mario coming back
to do Slater is Mario over the years, it's like
the guy is stuck in a time warp. Yeah, he looks
exactly the same. He looks the exact same way.
See, at least Zack somewhat looks like a teacher
now. Not a teacher, but he looks enough different
where you could buy it. I real quick just want
to touch on who we saw, because the important
thing for this show to me is how it launched.
Because that was the key in carrying over a huge
fan base from classic to this, was how are you
going to start it? What's the first year going
to be like? So regardless of if it gets better
after that, to me the first year is the crucial
year. And so we're going to go with just real
quick touching some of the characters that were
on the first year. We'll get to the ones that
come later on in the show. Basically what they
did with this first year is they're trying to
basically imitate the classic Save by the Bell.
So we have Scott, Scott Erickson, who is Zach
Morris basically, except he was a dark haired
kid. We have Tommy D, who was Slater, but he
was just kind of like a tall athletic guy instead
of like a stocky muscular guy. Barton Weasel
-Wisell, who was Screech. We have Lindsay Warner,
who was Kelly Kapowski. Megan Jones, who was
kind of half Lisa, half Jesse. And then Vicki
Needleman was also half Jesse, half Lisa. So
those were the characters we have. Just almost
direct crossovers from the regular one. I do
got to say, as far as those characters go, Scott
was terrible. He was Nozak. He couldn't act,
just got awful. Tommy D looked the part, like
he looked like the jock, even though he didn't
look anything like Slater, but he couldn't act.
Weasel actually was a decent actor and actually
I think played the part of the screech role fairly
well. So he's the one guy that I was okay with.
And then with the girls, I do have to say, After
you know having Kelly in the original one who
is such a hottie Lindsay was a hottie Lindsay
who was played by Natalie Sigliotti or however
you say her name is and we'll get into what she's
done recently and how and why you would recognize
her but she was a hottie I did like her as far
as Bianca and Sorry Megan and Vicky It was just
for me almost like Lisa and Jesse I could care
less about him. Yeah, so I mean they did okay
replacing Kelly they did okay replacing screech,
but then Here lies the other problem. You've
brought in a student screech, and you still have
the adult screech. Yep. That's what I was going
to say earlier. You have two screeches. And that
makes no sense. Nope. So those were the first
season players. You don't remember any of those
guys? Like I said, I only watched the first three
episodes of season one, and that was... all the
way back in nineteen hundred ninety three so
you know my memory is failing me. I almost wish
you would have found comparison pics because
the pics in the behind the scenes or behind the
where are they now thing that we do it's all
what they look like now. But I just just from
hearing you describe it and and the whole adult
screech young screech that that that's just dumb
Yeah, again why I think Dustin Diamond should
have just maybe been beat He could still be involved
with say by the Bell just have him behind the
camera Just don't you know make him an executive
producer give him something else to do other
than being screech The max he doesn't have to
appear every hour every show you can just appear
randomly like That's true. And but even then
I just think you know somebody else would have
been the better choice and to me the obvious
choices were Zack or Slater just for the star
power. Yeah. Unless they found a kid that could
replace Zack and I understand I'm glad that they
didn't go with a blonde haired kid. I'm glad
they tried something a different look but the
guy they picked was just awful. Yeah. And there's
a reason and we'll get to this later why certain
people we have never heard from since. Let's
get into the next segment, which of course is
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. Alrighty, that's
right, it's time for The Good, The Bad, and The
Really Ugly of Saved by the Bell, the new class.
Like we said, there was an original format, we'll
get to that first note in a second here, but
there was the original format which was basically
copying the exact same cast. and also having
Belden and Screech there. Also in the same setting,
we have the same hallways, you know, the same
Bayside school for the most part. I don't remember
hardly any changes as far as the environment
goes. And like we said, most people were pretty
unhappy with this original format. It just, I
don't know, the plots and the episodes are almost
like complete duplicates of episodes we've already
seen in classic. The characters are basically
second -hand characters from the first one. And
the acting was terrible, for the most part. This
just goes to show you, and I'm starting to interrupt,
but it just goes to show you, even back then
in 1993, Hollywood doesn't have an original bone
in its fucking body. I know I'm jumping ahead
here, but I'm sorry. I thought, and again, it's
been so long since I've even paid any attention
to New Class, I thought there was an original
theme song to this show. Oh no! We have to just
copy, we just have to reuse the original classic.
Are you fucking kidding me? So for those of you
paying attention and wanting to win in our theme
song contest, this episode should give you a
tip. So yes, the theme song for Save By The Bell
The New Class is the exact same as the theme
song for Save By The Bell. At least it was in
the first season. I'm not sure if they got a
different version at some point in the seven
seasons, but for the most part, they're using
the exact same theme song, same color scheme
as far as I'm going to actually look it up and
see if there was a different theme song. But,
you know, I had the same colors and graphics
and the same theme song for the most part. So
the moral of the story is the first season formula
did not work. Epic. fail so what they did decide
to do and unfortunately this is where they lost
almost the entire save by the bell population
of fans is because it was so terrible the first
year most people probably never even saw the
second season I'm the people that saw the second
season were people that were watching this stuff
for the first time so they did try to revamp
it they realized that the first season was terrible
so they tried to redo things in the second season
So, we'll just go over a few of their changes
here. First of all, they realized that Scott
was a poor substitute for Zach, so he was fired.
They determined that Weasel, which actually I
thought Weasel was alright, but they thought
he wasn't good enough as Screech, so he was fired.
The adult screech is really coming back into
being so maybe he wasn't around that first season
when weasel was there Maybe he only came around
after that because I guess that's when the adult
screech comes back So I think that was a poor
decision. I think they should have kept weasel
and not brought screech back also Vicky was also
fired. So they brought in three new characters,
which is Brian Keller Bobby Wilson and Rachel
Myers Who played a Were played by Christian Oliver
spanky Rogers and Sarah Lancaster. So it's so
basically replaced three people now most people
thought this was an improvement But most people
were upset that weasel was gone because like
I said, that was one of the one characters that
Was actually all right so they tried that and
It seemed like they were doing a little bit better,
but the main viewing audience still probably
wasn't buying into it quite as much as maybe
they would have liked so then we go through a
third season revamp so again I have to say this
again I have to say this how the hell did this
show last seven years yeah exactly and no there
is no Look saved by the bell the new class season
two. I searched everything I could and it's just
the original classic rain So between first season
second season, we've kicked three people out.
We fired Three of them and brought three people
in and third season. We we do a lot of the same
here This one it's just a bunch more firing like
the people they just brought in either left the
show or were fired and then some of the original
people were you know, the only people that survived
I believe are Tommy D and Lindsay Which which
are just two people left from the original cast
of this show So that's just kind of weird And
of course Dustin Diamond was back Which didn't
make any sense. Well, it didn't make any sense,
and this is what I'm saying. They didn't even
have a place for him because he would have never,
even if he was here as some type of work study,
some type of student teaching or something, he
would have never been there past one year. So
the fact that he's there a second year makes
no freaking sense whatsoever. Just so terrible.
So then we get Ryan Parker, RJ Collins, and Maria
Lopez added. And this is also a time where basically
some of the plot changes because this is when
the whole FCC mandate of having three hours of
education content came into play and they started
trying to dumb down the comedy and add more educational
content to the shows. So that's why even the
people that say it gets better, I question that.
And through the rest of the seasons, four, five,
six, seven, whatever, there are minor cast changes
and whatnot. But, you know, we basically only
had two people that even made it through the
first three seasons. So that's why I have a problem
with this show even being called the new class,
because it's two kids that somehow stay and everybody
else is getting changed. So there is no class.
It's like everybody's constantly changing. And
second, if the show lasted for seven seasons,
how are we still following one class? Exactly,
yeah. Shouldn't we have had, like, save by the
bell the new class and then save by the bell,
like, the newer class? The newest class? The
second new class? I do have to say, with you
talking about, like, people getting fired and
them hiring new people and then them firing the
new people, I know you're gonna hate this, but...
It reminds me of every time a new power ranger
season comes on where you have a new new storyline
except here you have the same damn storylines
but with new characters but take take money more
from power rangers season one they had you know
the original cast season two they had partially
the original class by the end of season two middle
of season two going into season three they had
a whole new cast so it's the same thing of You
know stuff happens with the actors or they didn't
just want to be there maybe the producer said
something oh well hey this person's or not this
person's word outlets but again it goes to my
point. Why are they not if they wanted this to
succeed they wanted new class to continue to
save by the bell popularity. Why didn't they
actually find the casting people for the show
should have been fired. Exactly because they're
so terrible that they for seven seasons are Interchanging
actors and actresses over and over and over again
because they cannot get it right. Yep Like they
found a couple people that were acceptable and
a whole bunch of terrible people Yep, and it
just doesn't make any sense. Look at the difference
though Look at the difference between that and
like Good Morning Miss Bliss and Save by the
Bell the original one Save by the Bell or look
at Good Morning Miss Bliss. They had freaking
Jonathan Brandis Frickin' Urkel, Brian Austin
Green, and then, which would have all worked,
those people would have been fine in that show.
You know, then they turn it over and they get
all the original cast members basically, even
the, whatchamacallit, I'm forgetting his name,
the kid that played kind of the Slater part before
Slater came in in Good Morning Miss Bliss was
fine. He was a decent kid. He was watchable then
look at say by the bell even when people Were
having you know issues as far as like Kelly and
Jesse they brought in Tori who was fine You know,
you could watch her when they go to the beach.
They had Leah Remini who was fine Like all even
college years the people they brought in were
fine Yeah, Bob Golic and and you know the other
girls, you know, they did the part fine Like,
this is the one show in the entire franchise
that could not find anybody that worked. Yep.
And it makes no sense. This show just is, it
doesn't exist, it's in an alternate universe,
it just doesn't fucking exist to me at all. Yeah.
I'm gonna at some point hopefully watch some
episodes from a couple of the later seasons just
to reaffirm my belief that it sucks, but I don't
want to just base everything on the first season,
but good lord, it's hard to get past it. And
again, the problem is, it's the same thing as
what they do today. Oh hey, we have three Spider
-Man movies. No matter what people's opinions
of the Spider -Man movies are, we have three
Spider -Man movies. But oh wait, Columbia, Fox,
whoever has the license for Spider -Man now.
Oh hey, but we can't do a Spider -Man 4, let's
just... Rebooted and tell the origin story over
again this is the same thing with with new class
you have good morning miss bliss saved classic
in college years. Yes it's a stretch on good
morning miss bliss and save classic but they
still have some of the same characters. What
specifically save classic and college years you
have characters continuing to grow you have characters
moving on where is new class it's like. Sweep
everything else under the rug and just give you
a pile of shit. Yes A couple other last things
I want to talk about as far as the good the bad
and the other because we have to have some good
somewhere My only good part that I can find on
this is episode in which Slater Lisa and Zack
made a cameo appearance appearance Yeah, I don't
remember what the context of the episode somebody
had bought the the school and was going to demolish
it Right. No, no, no. I mean, as far as like
the episode title or whatever, like in college
years, they had a Thanksgiving story. So, yeah,
someone had bought Bayside and they were going
to demolish the school. So Slater comes back.
Lisa comes back. Zach's aunt. How the hell did
that happen? Zach's aunt comes back. And oh,
my God, the guy that is buying the school apparently
is for old flame. Yeah. It was just classic Zach
though, and it was great. And I love the line
because Slater looks at Zach and goes, how's
the miss? Yeah. I was like, they were trying
to get everybody there. Yeah. But you know, that
was a good moment. Let's talk about this clip,
though, because you have them at some sort of
like, I don't know if it's a Halloween dance
or if it's a festival dance or something. Most
of them are on my thing. You have Belding and,
oh yeah, it was some sort of prom or something.
You have Belding and Screech as Elvis's. And
apparently, the two of them planned all, well
Screech didn't, but apparently Belding planned
this. Apparently he called ahead to Zack Slater
and it doesn't show this to my knowledge. You
know, he called the three of them to come back
to talk this guy out of, you know, doing what
he was going to do. And, you know, as soon as
you see Slater, it's like, oh, hey, it's Slater.
He hasn't aged a bit. You know, you see Lisa.
Oh, hey, it's Lisa. She's wearing a business
suit and she has a $1 ,000 credit limit. Wait,
that's not very good. She's not doing very good
for herself. I know, really. Then you see this
other guy walk through. Oh, my God. That's like,
Zach went back to the 70s and became a hippie
without the beard. Like, who's that guy? I mean,
it's like, it's like, oh my god. And what really
pisses me off about, I love the clip. I love
that they came back. But again. Dustin diamond
and the character screech not getting any development
whatsoever and he sits there and says Zach really
loud three times in in Zach's face and it's like
oh hey screech you know it's like. Is that knows
he's there but it because screech is being the
obnoxious douchebag these days entire life. You
know, it's like, oh whatever, it's just screech.
Yeah, and who knows how well they were getting
along at that point in real life either. Yeah,
that's true, too. Yeah, so it was just an interesting
moment, you know, a little bit of a refresher
when you're watching all these people that you
have no idea who they are when some familiar
faces show up. So anything else you want to say
about good, bad, or ugly about this show? Nope.
Alright, then let's move on to... Things that
make you go, hmm. That's right. It's time for
a quick version of things you might not know
about Saved by the Bell, the new class. The first
thing that you might not know is even though
we're saying this show is pretty terrible, it
was actually nominated for a Daytime Emmy in
2000 for best children's programming. Now according
to my script, it says 200 BC, so... Nominated
for a Daytime Emmy in 2000. Also got a ton of
nominations for like Young Star and Young Artist
Awards, which I think people were smoking crack.
Second thing you might not know about this show
is it was originally set to only last two seasons
but somehow lasted seven which again it reaffirms
my thing of people like watching bad fucking
television which ties into the third and last
thing that you might not know about save by the
bell the new class is well not as popular or
as well known as the original save by the bell
the new class actually had a longer series run
and also produced more episodes than save by
the bell classic which is just shameful that's
a travesty Alright, well let's get right into
what some of these people are doing now and I
have just a few because if I don't mention them
it's because they've dropped off the face of
the earth and that was their only acting gig
in their life. But we'll start with Samantha
Esteban, who played Maria Lopez in seasons three
through seven. In 2001, she worked in Training
Day Movie with Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke
and everything. She played the pivotal role of
Letty. And most recently, you may know her as
Sonia in Hard Times, RJ Berger, whatever that.
Craptastic TV show is I have never even heard
of the show. I've heard of it. I think it's like
on MTV or something. Oh lovely So so she's still
around and whatnot and then you have Sarah Lancaster
who might be the most well -known One of the
most well -known out of this cast and she played
Rachel in seasons two through four She had starring
roles in what about Brian? Dr. Vegas Everwood
and scrubs and most recently you may know her
as Ellie Bartowski on the series Chuck So I think
most people would recognize her if they saw a
picture of her Yeah, we have Richard Lee Jackson
who is Ryan Parker for season 3 through 5 He
hasn't done much acting but he was featured in
People magazine with his brother Jonathan Jackson
in the sexiest man alive issue and apparently
these days he's into filmmaking and Music he's
in a band called a nation So, I don't know. We'll
see if he does anything spectacular with his
life, but So far, it's just kind of like, looks
like some independent work. Yeah. Put it nicely.
You had Lindsay McKeon, who played Katie Peterson
in the last three, four seasons, season four
through seven. She has been on Supernatural,
Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill as Taylor James,
not getting light, but she's also in two movies
called Shredder and Class Warfare. I don't know
what those are, but the interesting thing I think
about her is that she has appeared - She's a
Miller Lite girl. She's a Miller Lite bartender
on Miller Lite commercials. I would say Lindsay
and Sarah are the two well -knowns as far as
like what we might have seen them in recently
because everybody knows Supernatural, Veronica
Mars, Wintry Hill. Yeah. The next one though,
I definitely know and that's Natalie Sigliotti
because I thought she was a hottie and save by
the bell the new class She was supposed to be
the Kelly type person and she played Lindsey
Warner on the first three seasons she This is
a crazy coincidence and I've even seen an interview
of her on this She played detective Harper on
the on the glades, but she played Bobby Galardi
on raising the bar opposite Zach Paul Gosler.
Yeah, so and I remember in her interview you'd
like all the new class people were always like
kind of like enamored with the regular cast and
So when she actually was starring then with Zack
on a show it was kind of like a star -struck
moment for her The reason I know her most right
now is because she provides the voice of scarlet
on GI Joe renegades Which she does pretty good
actually So I like her as she's done some other
voice work and some video games and whatnot But
I just think it's funny that she's on reason
the bar with Zack Let's see, we only got a few
more here. Ashley Tesoro who played Liz Miller
in seasons five through seven. She had a major
role on Bold and the Beautiful that started while
she was on the new class and kind of lasted after
that. She's also into music. She's released a
self -titled country music EP and just last year
she released a country gospel titled Oh You Angel.
So apparently she's a singer nowadays. Last girl
we got Bianca Lawson who played Megan Jones in
the first two seasons. In December 2009, Lawson
plays in the cast as Maya St. Germain in the
TV series Pretty Little Liars. She also appeared
as Emily Bennett in The Vampire Diaries. I've
never seen either of those, so couldn't tell.
Pretty Little Liars, I believe, is a new series
on, well, not a new series, but it's a recurring
series on ABC Family, and Vampire Diaries is
the WB, or not WB, WBS gone W's version of Twilight,
okay, and this is an interesting twist here because
we all know what happened with the original screech
Crazy now, let's take a look at the replacement
screech In 2009 he was named one of four temple
bar scholars by the American Inns of Court And
he spent a month in London representing the American
legal profession as he and currently the CEO
of an up -and -coming construction firm in central
Florida, and he's also the head of a charity
group called Hope for Vision. So apparently he
did a little bit better for himself than the
original Screech. Maybe it was good that he got
fired. So that does it for the where they are
now like I said, I think most people might recognize
Sarah Lancaster maybe Natalie Sigliotti a lot
of the other people have kind of faded off into
the distance and all the characters that I haven't
mentioned have really faded off into the distance.
Yep. So earlier there really is no You don't
have like a like a young Spencer Breslin. You
don't have uh... spencer breslin for those of
you that don't know was uh... one of the elves
in uh... storm one of the santa claus movies
uh... you don't have someone like that you don't
have all the young bruce willis you don't have
a young and i know bruce willis at that time
was like an adult but i'm i'm just using that
as you don't have these big star power so of
course you know you have these people that are
pretty much no names fade into obscurity so great
So, I think we're going to take a quick break
and we'll give you some commercials, some information
on the theme song contest and the listener's
choice episodes, since both of those are right
around the corner. And you'll hear some other
stuff too, so stay tuned and we'll be back after
these messages. Now, listening to the Geekcast
Radio Network. That's right, for the first time
in Geetcast Radio Network history, we are giving
you, the listener, a chance to choose the topic
in one of our shows. This is how you can cast
your vote for what the topic should be. Head
on over to geetcastradio .com and click on the
Telecast tab at the top of the page. Once there
you can find our complete Season 1 schedule with
all 35 episodes. Please look this over, because
we would hate for you to cast your vote for a
show that is already on our schedule. Once you've
done this, just scroll to the section titled
Listener's Choice and click on the Comments button.
All that's left for you to do now is to cast
your vote through a comment. For example, you
might say, Hey, I see that Nick Arcade is not
in your Season 1 lineup, so I'd like to cast
a vote for Nick Arcade to be the Listener's Choice
episode. It's that simple. So please go cast
your vote for your favorite show, and stay tuned
for Episode 34 to see which show becomes our
very first Listener's Choice. That does it for
now. This has been Optimus Solo from the Telecast.
Hey guys, Raphael here at the Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtles. Did you say podcast? Dudes, dudettes,
you're listening to a podcast on the Gatecast
Radio Network. Cowabunga! Hey everybody, it's
Optimus Solo from Geekcast Radio Network's new
show, The Telecast, with some important information
on our theme song contest. The rules for this
contest are pretty simple. In Season 1 of The
Telecast we will be covering 33 classic kids
shows from the 80s and 90s. Obviously all of
these shows had theme songs which sometimes can
be the most memorable part of a show. This contest
is going to test your memory on those theme songs.
How is that you may ask? Well, because we have
taken 32 of those classic theme songs and smashed
them into one three -minute clip. Your job is
to identify the order in which these 32 shows
appear in that three -minute clip. Also, you
must be able to identify which one of the 33
shows was left out of the clip. Some of the shows
should be fairly easy for you to identify while
others may be a bit trickier. For a list of all
of the shows in season 1 and more information
on the contest, visit the telecast page at geekcastradio
.com. Also remember to tune into every episode
of the telecast because each episode will contain
that show's theme song in its entirety at the
beginning of the show as well as the 3 minute
contest song towards the end of the show. This
has been Optimus Solo from the telecast saying
good luck and happy listening. Hello nurses and

Slater? Slater, what are you doing here? Well,
I heard Bayside was gonna be torn down, Mr. B.
And I couldn't let that happen. Really? Now,
how are you gonna stop it, Big Shot? Tell him,
Slater. Right. Well, I'll arm -wrestle you for
it. Nice try, Hercules, but if you'll excuse
me, I've got to... What is this? What is this
that I hear about some creep tearing down Bayside?
Lisa! You've come back to be my prom - Come back
to save the school. Oh, I missed your elbow.
All right, young lady, I'm the creep who bought
Besa. Oh, you are, huh? Okay, how much should
I have to raise to buy back? $5 million. Oh,
well, I've got a $1 ,000 limit on my credit card.
Will you take it down payment? Hildy, I've had
enough. I'm leaving before the next coot comes
in here trying to change my mind. Oh, and McMillan
is... Sandy! It's me, Wally. It's been a long
time. But... but what are you doing here? I thought
we could finally go to the Bayside prom together.
I, uh, was just leaving. Maybe I could, uh, stick
around a little while. Well, what made you change
your mind and come back? My nephew. When I told
him Bayside was in trouble, he insisted I fly
back down and come to the prom. But why would
your nephew care so much about Bayside? He flew
back down with me. You can ask him yourself.
Zach! Zach! Hey! What's going on? Zach! Hey!
How's it going? Zach! What? You're the stupid
nephew? Well, I wouldn't put it that way, but
yeah. Zach, this is Wally McMillan, an old high
school friend of mine. How do you do? Mr. McMillan,
why don't you think about what you're doing?
Sir, Bayside might not mean anything to you,
but it means everything to me and all my friends.
Sir, we have spent the greatest years of our
lives here. The kids love this place. Leave it
alone. Please. I don't know what to say. You
don't have to say anything now, Wally. Come on,
let's dance. So how's the missus? Pretty much
DVD is going to be it. All seven seasons are
on DVD. Seasons one through five are all separate
season sets. Season six and seven are in one
set together. And the reason that is is because
it was originally only going to be one season
of 26 episodes, and they split it into two seasons
of 13 episodes. Yes. It does say, now, I am a
Netflix instant watcher. I am a Netflix instant
subscriber. I do not subscribe to their DVD plan.
It does say that you can get the new class on
DVD. It does not say how Netflix distributes
that, whether it's like one disc with four episodes.
You know what I mean? Something like that. I
don't know. And the thing about Netflix now is,
for those of you who are DVD subscribers, You're
paying $7 .99 a month for the DVD subscription
and if you also went one instant you have to
pay another $7 .99, but if you want like additional
DVDs at a time The price increases. I think I
saw a news article that said if you want like
four four movies out at one time It's gonna cost
you 20 bucks So the Netflix DVD through the mail
thing is just gone downhill Unless you don't
get the streaming if you just go DVDs by mail,
you're still getting good prices. It's if you
want to go Well, no, you're not really not no
because my mom gets it just through the mail
and her prices did not go up at all Right. Okay,
but I'm talking about like for like someone who
subscribes today you're gonna be paying the $7
.99 a month rate for the DVD through the mail,
but What I'm saying is say you want say you want
to rent Tron Assault Knock around guys and They
die hard okay for those four movies Netflix is
gonna charge you $20 to have them out at one
time That maybe I would never get four at a time,
but I don't know I know but I'm just saying I'll
I'll show you the the news article later. It's
I read one of them. Yes, the one -at -a -time
thing is still $7 .99 for the DVDs, but if you
want more than that, it's going to cost you more.
So it's not on Netflix Instant. You can get it
through DVD through the mail from Netflix, and
it's not on iTunes either. And as far as YouTube
goes, I was able to find one episode. One clip
no, I was able to find one three part three out
of four parts of one episode I wasn't able to
find the very first part, but I could find parts
two three and four an episode where From the
first season where weasel is like the star kicker
on the football team or whatever other than that
You can find like little 1030 second clips here
and there but it's basically not existing on
YouTube, which is surprising Yep, because it's
you know you would think that generation more
so than even the originals generation would have
things online But like he said you got to go
through the DVD so maybe you can get a good deal
on Amazon or something like that Let me actually
look that up really quick and actually see how
much the DVDs would run somebody just to get
the seasons on Amazon. So if you want to prove
us wrong and tell us that season 7 is really
good or season 5 is really good, go to Amazon
and donate it to us and we'll do a special episode
just on that season. Donate it to Kevin because
if I get it I'm burning the DVDs. Here we go.
Here we go. Same with it all, the new class,
season three. You can buy it new for $14 .88.
Season four, $17 .88. So all about probably $10
to $20. Season two, $17. Season two and season
one are on Amazon Instant Video, 99 cents per
episode. But yeah. uh... season five years while
twelve new from three dollars twenty nine cents
for season five interesting they'll be with someone
who will donate that and then the most expensive
one season six and seven DVD set buy new for
twenty two thirty six so they're all about twenty
to fifteen dollars or whatever so That's interesting.
Alright, let's get right into the IGN replacement
crew. Zero. I'm breaking the rules and I'm giving
it a zero. No, number one means the show did
not appeal to you then or now. Zero. So you're
giving it a one. Zero. I will give it to a one
as well. The show did not appeal to me then,
doesn't appeal to me now. Unless somebody can
prove me wrong by letting me watch some season
six or seven episodes or something. Zero. No,
there is no zero. So lowest rating I think of
any of our show so far everybody has given it
a 1. What's your last words? You have no last
words. Don't watch it. Just stick to Good Morning
Miss Bliss new class. Wow. Stick to Good Morning
Miss Bliss classic in college years. Just stop
after the college years. The point is in the
Say By The Bell franchise you watch the classic.
Then, if you want to keep watching, you watch
College Years, and then if you really want to
keep watching, watch Good Morning Miss Bliss,
and then if you really want to start watching,
watch what we're going to be talking about next
week. It has nothing to do with Save By The Bell.
Exactly. That it's Valley High School. So, all
right, I'd like to thank Mike for joining me
today, rounding out the Save By The Bell part
of the block, but we also have one extra episode
here for this. Kids sitcom block, so we'll see.
I don't remember who's on that one with me, but
we'll talk about that later. I think it's JT.
Yes. So thanks for listening to us here on the
telecast. If you want to leave us feedback on
the show, there's a couple main ways that you
can do that. First and foremost, please go to
