Saved By the Bell: The College Years

we continue our kids sitcom block and again we

have two co -hosts the same two that were with

us last episode to talk about another spin on

a classic show first we have TFG1 Mike hello

Hello, and we also of course have JT from Saskatoon.

Hello. Good day, guys Good day to you. I don't

know where we're at now. Are we in Australia?

I guess so Today the three of us will be talking

about before my Alright folks, we are talking

about Saved by the Bell, The College Years. And

before we get too far into our discussion, some

quick background information on the show. The

show debuted in 1993, directly after Saved by

the Bell, and lasted until 1994. It was just

on for one season on NBC, and it only aired 18

episodes, plus the original pilot. For those

of you that don't know, Saved by the Bell, The

College Years is a direct spinoff of the classic

Saved by the Bell, in which... Like the title

implies we follow four of the high schoolers

as they start their college career So JT without

getting into any specifics. What do you remember

about saved by the bell the college years? Did

you watch this when it aired live? Actually,

no, I didn't discover the show until a couple

years after it was over and For the longest time

I wanted to watch it because I remember like

a back in the day of comic books you used to

have Like TV ads and movie ads in the back page

of the comics in the back of the one issue spider

-man they had this you know this fall and NBC

and it's You know Slater screech Kelly's a couple

of new kids in this Big -ass dude with a mullet

Well, they promote the shit out of this Yeah,

I don't remember any promotions like that's the

only idea that I ever had that there was you

know a spin -off Like, I didn't even know about

New Class at this point, so. But no, I remember

when I did get to watch it eventually, I really

liked it. And where I found it, it was in reruns

on TBS already, although I think I would have

liked it more if I had been able to watch it

on its original run, because I think it ran weeknights,

didn't it, originally? Yeah, it ran in prime

time. So yeah, but no, I love this series, and

you know, there's very little about this show

that, if anything, that I didn't like, because

I loved it all around. Nice. What about you,

Mike? Did you watch this when it first aired?

Yeah, I did watch this in prime time. Yeah. Before

you get into your thoughts, I just want to preface

this with, you know, I remember, you know, speaking

of what we said last episode, you know, when

Saved by the Bell was ending, nobody wanted it

to end. We were all like, wait a second, like,

Can we continue somehow? Like, and everybody,

like the logical step is, well, can we follow

them? I actually had this thought before I even

knew about the show was like, can't we just follow

them to college now? Like, can't we keep going

with this or, you know, somehow keep this going?

And then all of a sudden you started seeing promos

for college years. And I was like, yes. But then

I was like, wait a second, can they pull this

off? You know, are they going to ruin it? And

to me they didn't, so go ahead with your thoughts.

The thing, and I know that you don't want to

get too far into details and stuff. The thing

for me when I first, and you can correct me if

I'm wrong on this, but the thing for me was it

was only Slater, Zack, and Screech in the very

beginning, right? In the pilot episode, yes.

Right. It was only Zack, Slater, and Screech,

and you had the other three new girls that were

there. Right. Roommates Kelly didn't come back

until what one or two episodes after that the

first episode after the pilot Kelly was there

Really? Yeah, so there's just a pilot she wasn't

in right But I could have sworn it was at least

like two or three episodes after the I could

have so too But that's not apparently not how

it was Wow. Yeah No, I really enjoyed it I I

enjoyed you know obviously seeing the three guys

again You know and the way that I thought the

show was gonna play out was that you know they've

moved on You know that that the girls Jesse Lisa

and Kelly had all gone off to do other stuff

Maybe other college. Yeah, I don't know maybe

just you get into Brown or MIT or whatever you

know I mean yeah And I thought okay well How

is this gonna work with these three new girls?

And yes, Zack Slater and Screech are all the

same. You know, their characters are still developing.

I mean, they're moving on, but it's still Zack

Slater and Screech. Right. You know, it's one

of those things where how is it gonna work with

this new environment? And overall, I liked it.

I did like it better when Kelly did obviously

show up again. Oh, yeah. uh... uh... everybody

likes it better when kelly shows up but uh...

you're kinda good transition perfectly right

into the who's who because we've talked about

you know we have mark paul gossler mario lopez

and dustin diamond zack ac and then screech at

playing their same roles like you said you have

kelly eventually come in uh... the new characters

in this one that that play significant roles

you have uh... leslie burke was one of the new

girls played by and trample uh... alex tabor

who was played by Kirsten Warren and those were

the main two girls besides Kelly. There was a

girl that was in there just for the pilot episode

and that was a character named Danielle Marks

who was played by Essence Atkins, but she gets

replaced by Kelly. So you have the two new girls.

You have their RA or their dorm advisor, resident

advisor, whatever you want to call him, Mike

Rogers, played by Bob Golick, the ex -football

player. And then you have the Dean and the main

professor, Professor Lasky, played by Patrick

Fabian, and the Dean, played by Holland Taylor.

What did you guys think of the new characters,

JT? Were there any that you liked or disliked?

Well, speaking quick about Daniel there, it's

like, when I saw the pilot on YouTube, I was

like, hey, Lisa 2 .0. That's the first day soon

as I saw that I was like, yeah, they're not trying

to coast on the coattails or nothing. But no

other new characters. I like Leslie. OK, I got

kind of a Jessie vibe off of her a little bit,

but she was still OK. I liked Alex, how she's

kind of like crazy. You know, well, yeah, she's

an actor. Yeah. But no, I liked Alex because,

you know, just the way they played her is this

kind of very forward, spazzy type of character.

Well, we should. Yeah, we should mention because,

like you said, Alex is the actor. She's so she's

all dramatic. She's trying to be an actress.

So she's got that angle. And Leslie is the silver

spoon as far as like rich. I remember her having

like rich parents and she was very like. I don't

know. Jesse -ish. Yeah, well, she just kind of

had that vibe. I don't really remember the Dean

all that much. And not to sound like really violent,

it's just I didn't like Lasky and he has a face

that I want to smack repeatedly. I like Lasky.

Yeah, it's just... And we'll get into it later

on, but there's a couple of reasons why I don't

really like the character all that much, and

I loved Mike. Everybody loves Mike. Yeah. Everyone

wanted to be like Mike. Like Mike. Love to be

like Mike. Well, no, the first time he walks

in, like the pilot episode, hi, I'm Mr. Rogers,

screech to his feet, I watch your show every

morning. you're bigger in real life and i kind

of like the whole uh almost daffy to bugs kind

of camaraderie that mike and screech got actually

well it'd be a little more rent and stimpy maybe

but it's just i love the dynamic between mike

and screech Yeah, they do have an interesting

dynamic and I liked what Mike adds, you know,

as kind of like the belting figure, but in a

college sense. And then, you know, I like Leslie

and Alex just because it was new blood. To me,

you had to have Zach and AC and Screech because

that's what Saved by the Bell was. To me, Jesse

and Lisa just weren't as important to me, even

in the classic series. So it's fine that you're

replacing them as long as Kelly shows up, which

obviously she does. And it just adds for more

dynamics as far as someone else for AC to have

relationships with or for Zach to try to have

a relationship with before Kelly gets involved

with him again. And I just like the dynamic of

having the two people. I almost like them better

than Jesse and Lisa. Yeah. For me with Mike,

as you said, the whole point of going to college

is you have a resident advisor or whatever, but

usually the resident advisor is not a full grown

adult. It's usually someone like maybe a senior

in college. It's not an older person. I mean,

technically Mike could have been - Well, he was

taking a class or so at times, wasn't he? Yeah,

he was working on college careers. But I understand

what you're saying. Yeah, but I mean, it's like...

If that was my resident advisor, geez, I would

have not done anything bad. Not that I did. Right,

yeah, exactly, right. But no, I think, you know,

Mike fit in well because, I mean, a lot of these

roles for me, specifically Mike and Professor

Lasky, they're kind of... I hate to say this

but they're kind of Miss Bliss rolled into one

or rolled into two because Mike is the person

that First of all is not gonna take any shit

from Screech. Second of all, he's not gonna put

up with Zach's schemes and then Lasky is wanting

them to Actually learn something. Yeah, that's

true. You know, I mean out of Between all three

of these shows and I say three because I'm sorry

New class is an alternate timeline. It didn't

fucking happen Between good morning. Miss bliss

save classic in this Miss bliss and professor

last year the two teachers that I honestly remember

the most out of all of them Yeah, they're the

most that had something to do with the kids right

Or I should say the young adults And obviously

we said Kelly Kapowski comes in here after the

pilot. We also have two other Saved by the Belt

Classic members that do show up for an episode

a piece. Lisa shows up for the episode called

Wedding Plans, the last episode of College Years.

And Mr. Belding shows up on an episode called

A Thanksgiving Story, which, interesting enough,

has a bunch of cameos. And I didn't know this

until we'd done all these episodes, but... A

hearken back to Miss Bliss, both Jonathan Brandis

and Brian Austin Green show up in the Thanksgiving

story. Yeah, I watched the Thanksgiving story

and I'm like, wow, I can actually tell who they

are now. But how ironic that they show up in

the pilot of Good Morning Miss Bliss and now

guest star in Save by the Bell the college years.

I didn't know that. And then six from Blossom,

Genevon Oy and Marshall Warfield also appeared

in that episode. So it had a lot of cameos. But

I just thought there was that was not a coincidence

that they brought Jonathan Brandis and Brian

Austin Greenback. Oh, no. What was Urkel doing,

though? Why couldn't he show up? Wasn't he skinny

and having, you know, suspenders? It would have

been too distracting at that point. Yeah. And

why? And I find it interesting that Jesse never

showed up. Yeah, I find it interesting that Jesse

never showed up. That would be my only complaint.

Like I said last episode, we had the three couples,

even though Screech and Lisa never actually got

together. That would be my only complaint about

the show, is that they made Slater's character

move on and date other people. They had to, basically.

I mean, if you remember St. Louis Bell Classic,

Jesse and Kelly were the ones that wouldn't sign

the contract. And I know I know wouldn't continue

right, but what I'm saying is as far as character

development I think that's the only issue I have

with the entire show was that they couldn't get

Elizabeth Berkeley. Well, not everybody dates

their high school sweetheart their entire life

I'm not saying that they have to I'm just saying

yeah, what you said maybe for like a one -off

at like sit in hell I would have loved maybe

in the pilot that she came back broke up with

him and that's what led him off to go, you know,

being him. Right. Well, it's interesting if we

trace it back to like you got Jesse like, OK,

so she gets pissed off at the end of Saved by

the Bell classic. She won't sign the contract.

She won't do any more episodes. She doesn't show

up in this. But then years down the road when

they're talking about reunion, as far as Jimmy

Fallon goes, she says, OK, I'll do that. Then

you take Kelly. And she also has the feud at

the end of Saved by the Bell classic won't do

any more episodes But then she sees the pilot

or something changes her mind and she's like,

okay I'll do college years and now she won't

do anything else So those two each have some

interesting dynamic as far as their opinions

of the shows and either wanting to be involved

or being distant from it, etc But uh, just at

least Lisa showed up in an episode and Belden

showed up in an episode. So that's good. Yeah

Any other thoughts on cast members or characters

that you want to get out before we move on? I'd

have to say that Like for classic I liked all

the characters, but for specifically this I really

when I was watching it and when I was watching

it back for this episode I really gravitated

towards Slater more. I mean, you know Zack He's

Zack. I mean, he's not gonna change. I mean,

yes By the end of the series, he does have some

character development, but you still have that

Ferris Buellerian, you know, type of schema.

I still think it's so bizarre how much both Tiffany

Amber and Mark Paul change. This is only a year

after Saved by the Bell. The one thing I hated

about Kelly's characterization in this is that

didn't they cut her hair? Yeah, they did cut

her hair. I'm just saying like these two look

completely different in just a year's time Yeah,

it's kind of crazy compared to I kind of like

the cut hair We're not gonna get into that no,

I just thought Mike's word there fairs beauty

and that's like I like that on that note. I think

it's time for That's right, it's time for the

good the bad and ugly of the college years and

let's start how we always start Let's talk about

the theme song JT Second greatest theme song

ever. I love this theme song. It is a ringtone

on my iPhone right now I wish I could get a clearer

version of it. I always can't speak to me after

the show I can learn you how to do it. All right,

but yeah, I loved this from day one the theme

song is just like Great stuff. I'm not going

to sing it. It's a great theme song. It's not

nearly as catchy as the original, but it is a

very worthy heir to that throne. It sounded like

it fit as far as them going to college. You really

have to analyze it, but I think it's got some

of the same chords or notes in it. It's got that

familiar sound to it. Well, but one thing they

had to do when they were going to college is

they had to lose some of that, you know, like

we said, was saved by the bell. They had all

those bright colors and like those specific bumper

music going in and out of scenes, the same as

they had for Good Morning Miss Bliss. They had

to make that more mature for college years. Yeah.

That didn't stop them from putting some of the

color filters on the transitions, though. Yeah.

Mike, thoughts on the theme? I in our in our

in our theme song episode. This was my below.

Well, no That's my number two. Yeah, yeah saved

classic was my number three. This was my number

two because Carmen was my number one I As much

as I love saved classics theme. I love this even

more. I do too actually it did this to me as

I've said Saved college years is a natural progression

of what Saved by the Bell was. Yes, you have

different characters. Yes, you have different

things happening going on, but it's still at

the core with, as Kevin pointed out last episode,

for Saved Classic, you have Zack, Slater, and

Screech in every single episode. And this is

kind of like the... I hate to equate it to this,

but I mean, it's not a bad analogy, but this

is like the three amigos continuing on into their

next phase of life. And that theme song, Standing

the Edge of Tomorrow, it fit it. As Kevin said,

it took a little bit more serious, but it was

still fun. I could listen to this one over and

over and over again before I could listen to

the classic one over and over and over again.

I actually agree with you. Something about this

song just I really loved. What about any just

as far as like obviously we have no more Macs.

We have no more high school hallway with the

lockers or the classroom. Now we're in the dorm.

We have there is the food place that they go

to. There is like the Classroom the college classroom.

What do you guys feel about the change in atmosphere

or the change in setting? How they pulled it

off or to do anything you liked or didn't like

about the environment that they're in now seeing

these guys in a new environment JT Well, I kind

of like how the quote -unquote max in the show

is kind of their dorm room Yeah, it's like how

they have the co -ed split dorms like that So

you got you got your home and you got your hangout

kind of all in one there, which is cool. And

I mean, I like being a door away from the girls,

too. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that was like one of the

best parts of the pilot where Zach goes in. He's

like, Oh, I'm your roommate. This is awesome.

No wrong room. What are you talking about? We'll

be great roommates together. No, I like that.

I like the student union, you know, certainly

tied into a couple of my favorite episodes down

the line. Is there anything more scary than Zach

in a college, though? Zach with the mullet? No,

Zach in college with a bunch of girls. Like,

that's danger. Danger, Will Robinson. Isn't that

kind of like giving the Fox the key to the hen

house? Exactly. Zach, go to college. There's

a bunch of girls there. OK. No, it's I like the

lot of the locations You know the classrooms

Yeah, it's a class like the classrooms because

it was like perfectly college classroom It was

like a bunch of people that we don't know in

like a more of an auditorium type classroom setting

with like the Theater type chairs are set up.

I I liked it. I don't know Like what did you

feel about the classrooms? For the settings overall,

I mean, the dorm, the class, like, I mean, as

I said, the only one I really paid attention

to was Professor Lasky's class, so I like that,

I like that, you know. They it's you're a typical

college classroom of the 90s. I mean, you know

Well, but I liked also how they infused it with

college stuff like, you know People like right

asleep and people saying, you know Whatever like

they're gonna be pop quiz or you're getting judged,

you know Graded on this or that like they added

a lot of cool stuff to it. Oh, yeah As far as

the dorm room you don't that had to be a a specialized

set because you don't see College dorm rooms

like that our college dorm dorms that I was in

we were in a square building so the there was

the hallways made up a square and Two of the

sides were guys and two of the sides were girls

on the same floor So it was close, but there

was never an adjoining room going to girls I

mean this technically this technically wasn't

even a door even though they said it's a dorm

room It really isn't a dorm room. It's a two

-bedroom apartment. It honestly is. I mean, it's,

you have a room for the guys, a room for the

girls, a living room, and then a bathroom. We

did have dorms that had like two bedrooms with

an adjoining room, like a community room where

they shared, like a living room slash kitchen

that everybody shared, but it was always girls

living in both of the bedrooms or guys living

in both of the bedrooms. Yeah, right. They got

that, well at least at the university here in

Saskatoon, they have basically a high -rise on

campus, which is most of the units in there are

these, you know, two bedrooms on either side

of a suite, yeah. Yeah, and see that's the difference

between what Kevin's talking about as far as

having the community place and then the rooms

are on either side of it. This, you actually,

I mean, it wasn't like, it wasn't just an open

concept, you know, like there's, oh, here's the

lobby, and here's these offices here, and here's

these offices down this hallway. This was like,

like I said, a two -bedroom apartment, because

the thing actually had a door to the community

room, and then you had obviously the two doors

on the two separate bedrooms. So I saw this as

more of an apartment rather than a dorm room,

but, because like I said, colleges, the best

thing I can compare this to is, What's his name?

Michael Rapoport in Higher Learning. That's a

college dorm room, you know. A six by nine college

dorm room cell with two bunk beds. That's a college

dorm room. This was an apartment. This is the

college dorm room I wanted to stay in, that's

for sure. Well, yeah, I know. It's the college

dorm room everybody wanted to stay in, but I

was saying, like, this is not natural. This is

probably the one thing about college that they

probably kind of over, not overexposed, but kind

of indulged themselves with as far as the set

piece. They kind of had to, just that interaction

with the guys and the girls. Well, right, yeah.

What about... some of the errors as far as continuity

go between the classic and the college years

and mainly the ones that I'm talking about is

it is specifically shown and stated in classic

where they all were going to college as far as

so and so was going this college, so and so was

going here, so and so was doing this and then

we get the college years and all of a sudden

apparently all those plans fell through because

now we have four people showing up at the same

college. Well, it could happen Yeah, it was just

funny because you know They actually did make

mention of where they were going in the classic

years like oh, yeah You know cuz Zach scored

so well on his SAT or whatever. He was going

to what Yale or Harvard or something like that

He was going somewhere big wig and like it was

just kind of funny to see that that kind of Changed

and they all ended up in the same place Yeah,

the one the one thing I'd argue about them all

ending up in the same place is all getting in

the same dorm room It's just like I'll give you

Zack and Slater also the screech screech walks

in it's like No, I Mean it had to happen, but

it was just kind of one of those things where

you like I'll suspend reality for this. Yeah.

Yeah Also another thing I noticed about this

one that I almost forgot until I was rewatching

things was the fact that at the end of the Episodes

they would show bloopers Credits Yeah, because

the mid 90s or early mid 90s, like that's kind

of where a lot of sitcoms started doing that.

Having the outtakes and all that. I liked it.

Oh, no, no, I like that, too. It's just it's

they're not perfect after all. It wouldn't have

worked and say about about classic, but it works

for the college years. Yeah. Well, I see now

that now they're in college and they're adults

and therefore they're allowed to make mistakes.

Well, and anybody that was watching college years

had been following the series and knew the people

and could take that. Well, if you did that in,

say, By the Bell Classic before, you're really

comfortable with those characters. It would have

been a little different. But by this point, these

these people are are like your friends because

you've been watching them for, you know, five,

six years now. This was a 30 minute show, right?

Yeah. Yeah. OK. No, I'm just looking something

up and it just boggles my mind. Uh, we'll talk

about it later though How about uh your favorite

episode jt or episodes? Uh, well the thanksgiving

story, uh I think that was actually the first

episode I ever saw And just because I love the

scene where brian austin green walks in he's

got like, you know the pot of food and he's just

like You guys want some? You know, I like that

one. Uh, I like the two -parter with uh Like

I said, then this is where I'll kind of get into

why I don't like laski Was like the whole two

-parter that set up the whole kelly was dating

her teacher Yeah, and it's not that i'm really

against that It's just how it all kind of how

he ended up treating her and how it all kind

of turned out You know kind of for the good.

It's just like you hurt my kelly. I don't like

you that's Really? That's how I felt and uh I

think my favorite episode was the 13th episode

of Question of Ethics. You stole mine! That's

easily my favorite. Zach grew as a character

and as a person. That's why I love it so much

is the fact that they take this very, very cliched

and it's been done to death in a dozen other

shows. The teacher loses the test and the students

find it. Will they? Won't they? And one of them

decides to take the high road. I just love that.

And I love it mainly because Zach, you wouldn't

think Zach would take the high road like that.

Right. It was just so great because, first of

all, Professor Hemmings is great. Yeah. Friggin'

Benson. I know. However you say his last name.

Yeah. Ghulami or Goulom or whatever, but he's

also did the one of the voices in the Lion King,

but uh He just plays that part perfect He is

a perfect ethics professor and just the way he

does it It's just like one of those teachers

that goes outside the box and teaches you something

when you don't even know you're being taught

something Yeah, like it's like learning It's

like disguising learning as something else and

it's just I don't know It's so incredible that

episode by far as that might be one of my favorite

say by the bell episodes ever and another one

I should mention that I like just because again,

it was a cliched setup, but I loved it was professor

Zach Yeah, there's Zach, you know fakes being

a professor And that was the main thrust of the

series. I just like the side story in that where

the They're trying to make like the hunk calendar.

Oh, yeah. And this is where Leslie full blown

took on Jesse's persona. She's like, it's sexist.

It's superficial. Slater whips his shirt off.

You know what? I'm totally fine with it. Mario

Lopez has a superpower and it's all concentrated

in the pecs. You know, and then the end with

where they put screech his head on Slater. I

was like, you know what? That's awesome. Right.

I also like another episode that's not as much

as a question of ethics, but I do like the the

rush week episode just because it shows how stupid

frats and sororities are at some points and how

people get wrapped up in it and with everybody

getting slime thrown on them and Everybody wanting

to get into certain frats or sororities and I

hate frats and sororities. So I kind of like

that episode Because they kind of show how stupid

they are. I like before like Zack and Kelly didn't

get to get right back together as soon as like

the second episode, right? It took a couple of

episodes for them to get back He was going after

Leslie for a while, right? Okay, I Saw the whole

Kelly Lasky thing coming. Oh, yeah, I just saw

it coming It's one of those things like like

now where I can watch an episode of and I keep

I'm on a numbers kick. I'm always gonna reference

that show Like now when I watch an episode of

numbers like usually 20 minutes into the show

I Can figure out who the bad guy is? You know

it it's that type of thing where as soon as Kelly

showed up Her and Zack weren't back together

just yet because as you said he was going after

Leslie I knew something with with you know student

teacher thing. I knew that was gonna happen at

some point When you when you bring a professor

that's a good -looking guy and you have a bunch

of girls like yeah Is there any episodes that

you guys didn't like I? Don't really bother me

I Don't think there's really like I said there

wasn't a lot about this show that I didn't like

I mean like I said I didn't like that whole two

-parter Just you know for a very immature reason

yeah, and I should mention that I kind of liked

how I didn't like how it ended like I know you

know it got cancelled and shit gets cancelled

all the time and it was resolved in the second

movie but I just like I was just I hate I'm not

hated I just like the last episode because it

was the last episode it's kind of like how Kevin

said you know you know I want to see more of

these characters let's see them go to college

well It's kind of like this others if you guys

ever heard of a cartoon called undergrads. Yeah.

Yeah Yeah, it's it's the same thing with undergrads.

It's like I wanted to see the story to the end

and we didn't read what we kind of saw it was

saved by the bell, but The way it happened. I

wasn't really satisfied with that. Yeah, see

this is probably the only show like As JT said,

you know, stuff gets canceled all the time. But

this is probably the only show that I actually

don't mind it only having one season. I think

with From the Pilot, two wedding plans, two wedding

in Vegas, it was a perfectly plotted out season.

I'm sure if I really, really looked at each episode,

I could find flaws in each one. But overall,

this entire series, including the movie, Thought

was very well done I Wish we could have figured

out a way to continue Somehow, you know further

down the line and not fucking rebooted into the

worst fucking TV series ever You know Because

that's what I thought they were gonna do the

point at the point of the wedding wedding in

Vegas was Zach and Kelly were finally married,

you know, maybe, oh god, a Zach and Kelly reality

show showing their daily lives. You know what

I mean? Something that wasn't the new class,

something that continued the story of these characters.

But I don't dislike this series for ending the

way it did because... It tells a fluid story.

It's kind of like everybody kept berating us

over on the GCR and countdown for not knowing

that Evangelion was one story. That's why I only

had one season. It was just one story, beginning,

middle, end. This is the same thing. It's one

story. for the continuation of Saved Classic.

And I don't mind that. Yeah. Speaking of Zach

and Kelly, I think it was great how they brought

Kelly in where Zach's telling Leslie that Kelly

had died in some weird accident and all this

other stuff. And then Kelly walks in. That was

a moment I did not see coming. I remember seeing

that live and being like, oh, shit, Kelly's back.

Like, that's awesome. But speaking of Zach and

Kelly getting into the final episodes of this

and then which was marry me and wedding Preparations

and then obviously into saved by the bell wedding

in Las Vegas What were you guys's thoughts on

on that whole thing JT? I'm sorry what the save

by the bell the wedding the wedding in Las Vegas

You know, sadly, I've never been able to watch

that. Okay, what? Like I know it exists and I've

read like the descriptions online, but I've never

actually been able to watch the movie Why not?

Well, and I've never been able to find it through

entirely legal means I assure you Yes, yeah,

it's not on DVD yet. Yeah, but no, it's like

and it's something I really want to say It is

on DVD. Well, that's not no, it's not yes. It

is it's on the two -pack with the other one which

isn't it it's it's uh... we talked about it in

the last episode or whatever it's it's a it's

on with the other movie alliance all it's okay

it's all okay well Alright, so you can get it.

You just got to get it with the Hawaiian one

No, but I definitely like I said, I want to see

how the story ends like I've read how the story

ends But see I think I saw it originally but

I don't remember anything about it and I can't

find it online anywhere either So we're gonna

have to rely on Mike a little bit on this one.

I it well, it's not on Netflix Where I've seen

it honestly TV rerun. I mean they along with

TBS's whole rerunning of all these series I believe

I saw it on TBS and it's something along the

lines of Zach and Kelly are getting married and

I'm just doing this by memory I'm not looking

at anything so if I'm wrong Zach and Kelly are

planning to get married Zach wants the bachelor

party of end all be all bachelor parties Somehow

he screws up and he I think it has to do with

like losing the wedding money or something like

that And again, I'm just going off of memory

here. But I mean the point is in the end Everything

is fine. They get married Right off into the

sunset and that's that I am gonna have to look

up You know getting the two movies, but what

I meant was about it not being on DVD was I was

looking up the The college years yeah series

DVD and on TV shows and DVD said it wasn't on

that set but as Kevin said it is on the Which

I don't know if it's still in print or you can

still get it on Amazon or whatever But it is

a two -pack just with those two Made for TV movies,

and I believe it's only like 10 or 20 bucks if

it's still available We'll try to find that out

here real quick But at least you can get it somewhere

because I actually want to get it too because

I don't remember Remember it as well as I as

I would like you can let's see wedding in Las

Vegas. That's VHS DVD it says 12 bucks on on

Amazon calm So $11 .99 for a Save by the Bell

Yeah, so that does it for the good the bad and

the ugly of the college years and now it's time

for Things that make you go hmm All right. Here

are some things that you might not know about

saved by the bell the college years I don't have

too much but number one some people might wonder

why the show stopped The show was canceled because

it ranked 88th out of like only a hundred and

some in the yearly ratings had a 7 .8 household

rating and a 12 % audience share to give you

a little bit more information. They did make

the switch for this one to go into prime time

rather than Saturday mornings. They also went

against, directly against that one point full

house, which was bad because it's the same audience.

Yeah, that's what killed it. So there was a few

things. I mean, that might not have been the

only thing. There were some other things that

went on to it. They did switch it to another

night at one point and it still did bad. So they

tried a couple different things and they just

didn't work as far as ratings go, so that's why

I got the can. The second thing you might not

know about Sailor Bell, we kind of alluded to

it already, but originally there was that Danielle

Marks character, but Tiffany Tyson or Thiessen

or however you say her last name. Thiessen. Thiessen

decided to return to play the role of Kelly Kapowski.

We didn't mention this, but Essence Atkins was

fired and the plot line said she transferred

to an unnamed college. So that's how they went

about. Switching that out so sucks for that chick

But we'll get more into them here right now because

we're gonna do a little where are they now? But

we're not gonna talk about the classic characters.

We talked about those last episodes. So we'll

just talk about the new ones any tremco who played

Leslie Burke, I don't really know what she's

doing. I can't find anything about her on the

internet I do find it interesting that she grew

up. She was born where I went to college and

champagne Urbana Illinois where the University

of Illinois is so she was born in Urbana and

the last role she played was a Guest role in

judging Amy in 2003 since then not really sure

where she's at although she does look good these

days Then you also have a Kirsten Warren who

played a load up real good who played Alex obviously?

Blowed up in Independence Day, which is interesting

and ironic that we're talking about that today

She's appeared in 13 going on 30, Intolerable

Cruelty, Divine Secrets of the Yaya Sisterhood,

and of course Independence Day. So she does some

guest work in films here and there. I haven't

seen any notable TV roles for her. Where did

you get this picture of Patrick Fabian? On IMDB.

Wow, that's a weird picture. Patrick Fabian...

which was obviously Professor Lasky. He's been

in a bunch of different roles. I'm not familiar

with these TV shows, but he played in all of

them in multiple episodes. He was Rob Parker

in Working Class, John Moore in a show called

Gigantic, and Ted Price in a show called Big

Love. Big Love is an HBO show. So he still does

a lot of TV work, very much still in the scene.

Holland Taylor, who we didn't really talk about,

but played Dean of the school who got into it

with Zach a couple times, and most people would

recognize her from the great sitcom Two and a

Half. That's why the names sounded familiar.

Worst show ever. You'd probably never even seen

it. Bite your tongue, sir. Yes, I have seen it.

This show would be much better if it was just

Joan Cryer. No, John, Charlie Sheen makes that

show and that's why it's gonna fail. No, he doesn't.

Ashton Kutcher. No, he doesn't. You're a moron.

You're a fucking moron. And you do know they

replaced them, right? Yes, Ashton Kutcher is

gonna suck the life out of that show. That's

gonna be so much better. No, it's gonna fail.

No, it's not. You wanna make a bet on that? No.

Okay, then shut your damn pile. It's still not

gonna fail though. But Charlie Sheen was much

better. So much better. Charlie Sheen sucks.

Why do you dislike Charlie Sheen? That's absolutely

retarded. Because of what he put his fucking

children through I'm sorry you do not do that

to your kids He's crazy, but he's funny as hell

The craziest person in Hollywood today you can

just like his personal life Just like I dislike

my Mel Gibson's personal choices, but I still

love him as an actor You can only like me in

the movies. He's done. I do not like him on Two

and a Half Men because of the whole debacle with

what happened. He was hilarious on Two and a

Half Men, but anyways, that's where you'd recognize

the dean from college years as she's Charlie

Sheen's mom on Two and a Half Men. Bob Golick,

Mike, also appeared, he opened a restaurant and

a bar in downtown Cleveland. So you can go there,

Bob Golick Sports Bar and Grill if you want to.

He's also now the vice president of football

operations for the lingerie football league expansion

team, the Cleveland Crush. In play in September

of this year. Well, I would watch every game

if I could watch that in Canada Why why is it

when I read the info for Bob it The the Drew

Carey theme song just keeps popping into my head

Cleveland rocks Cleveland Well that rocks cuz

Bob has a restaurant there and is running their

lingerie football team Who plays in downtown

Cleveland? And then the poor girl that got axed

after the pilot essence essence Atkins. She's

currently starring in the TV series. Are we there

yet as Suzanne Kingston persons? I'm sorry I

love that picture you gave Kevin because that's

just he's just got this look at her face and

she's like what Good enough for the show Exactly

Bell's primetime special, NBC Saturday at 8,

with some important information on our theme

song contest. The rules for this contest are

pretty simple. In Season 1 of The Telecast, we

will be covering 33 classic hit shows from the

80s and 90s. Obviously, all of these shows had

theme songs, which sometimes can be the most

memorable part of a show. This contest is going

to test your memory on those theme songs. How

is that you may ask? Well, because we have taken

32 of those classic theme songs and smashed them

into one three -minute clip. Your job is to identify

the order in which these 32 shows appear in that

three -minute clip. Also, you must be able to

identify which one of the 33 shows was left out

of the clip. Some of the show should be fairly

easy for you to identify while others may be

a bit trickier. For a list of all of the shows

in season 1 and more information on the contest,

show now we kind of got into it a little bit

with the movie but as far as iTunes it's not

available on iTunes it is available on DVD DVD

is the best bet. It was released on DVD back

in 2004. Now, as of 2010, the release has been

discontinued. It's out of print. So you're not

going to be able to find it at most stores or

anything like that. You can find it at Amazon,

the complete series. It goes used copies for

about 30 bucks, new copies for about 33 bucks.

So if you're willing to spend 30, 35 bucks, you

can probably get the entire series on on DVD,

you could also get it on Amazon Instant Video

for $1 .99 an episode or $19 .99 for the whole

season. I have no experience with Amazon Instant

Video, so I'm not going to speak on that. I might

actually get that, though. No, honestly, I mean,

if it's... It's a little cheaper on Amazon Instant

Video, but you don't get to have the physical

copy of it then. But, yeah, okay, but... Don't

think there was I'll have to look at the TV shows

on DVD link again But I don't think there was

ever really that many special features on the

DVD so it wouldn't matter to as long as I had

the episodes Yeah, wouldn't matter to me what?

You know what we had here, and I'm looking at

the TV shows and DVD link Yeah, there's not any

special features on the on the DVD so I mean

Amazon instant video if you actually just wanted

the series it's It's a good option to do so.

Yeah, and it's not available on Netflix Mike

No, sadly none of the saved stuff. Well Gladly

that new classes and but none of the classic

or the college years is on Netflix Unfortunately,

they have it listed as not available. I mean

it's there if they if they want to add it eventually

but yeah And as far as YouTube goes It's actually

not as I was hoping there would be more episodes

full episodes available on YouTube I couldn't

find a whole lot I could find a few episodes

and then I could find like little clips and stuff

like that But kind of disappointing what's available

for youtube out there. There's a lot of other

stuff like commercials and bumpers and stuff

like that But and promos that they did for it,

but there's not as far as like full -on episodes

Outside of like a couple. Yeah Um, but the quality

is fine on them. Do you guys did you guys able

to find any more than just one or two episodes?

Not really. I found the pilot in like the first

couple episodes in Three parts, but that was

about it Yeah, so I mean since it's available

in DVD I would just either get the Amazon instant

video or or buy the DVD through Amazon and I

will Sorry to interrupt you, but I will put the

links to the Amazon page for both college years

with the instant video stuff and to buy the wedding

videos wedding DVD set for 12 bucks. I'll put

the links in the... Yeah, because if you want

to see the wedding video, that's the only way

to go is I think DVD. Let's get into the IGN

replacement crew then. JT, what are you ranking

this one? One, two, three, four. Oh, it's four

with a bullet, man. If I find this, I'm buying

it. Yes. Mike? Four. It's unanimous. I'm giving

it a four just like I gave Classic. I eventually

will have this and Classic all on DVD on my shelf.

I don't know why I don't already, but that's

probably because nobody's bought it for me for

Christmas. I put it on my list up here. What?

Nothing. So that's definitely four. I didn't

put Miss Bliss as a four, but Classic and College

Years, definitely fours. Yeah. So sum this one

up for us, JT, what's your last words on College

Years? Second greatest theme song ever. Kelly

is still hot, if not hotter. And, God, I wish

I could find the wedding movie so I could watch

that. Send me like 15 bucks to PayPal and I'll

just buy it for you and I'll send it to Canada.

Like, we all know how me trying to buy you a

birthday gift, we all know how that feels. Oh,

God, yeah. Let's not even go there. Yes, let's

agree to disagree. Stupid Canada Post. I agree

with Mike on this one, though. This seems like

the perfect conclusion to this story. Yeah, I

would have liked it to be on for a couple of

years. Maybe they shift the wedding stuff to

the end of the second season. That would have

been fine. Get one more season out of it. I would

have liked that. But you can't really complain.

It has the beginning, the middle, the end. So

it's a good way to finish off this story. I enjoy

this. Like I said before the only thing I really

would have Liked to see in this is something

with Jesse and Slater like I get that Elizabeth

Berkeley was moving on with her life and moving

on with her career and all that stuff, but Something

just like even if she just showed up for like

five minutes of an episode Yeah, either either

either he breaks up with her or she breaks up

with him and then that leads him to You know

his whole womanizing ways Um, the other thing

I would have loved to have seen is if in the

Thanksgiving story, if Larkin Screech finally

got busy or something, you know, something for

her to acknowledge, you know, some sort of storyline

to acknowledge that. She does really love him

back. You just want everybody to have this It's

just well, no, I don't want it to be like well,

Jesse breaking up a Slater. That's not happy

I mean I'm just saying to to bridge the continuity

a little bit more between classic in this and

as I said This is one unique full -on story and

it's a continuation. I'm just saying like to

give homage and give kind of closure to the original

six characters yeah which they could have done

even without them showing up they could have

done it just a dialogue to even just have like

a flashback scene where lisa gives screech a

kiss is like you know exactly i'm not saying

that that that lisa had to you know i'm not saying

that jesse had to actually show up i'm saying

you could do it any number of ways you could

do it in flashback you could do it in monologue

you could do it anyway yeah um i'm just saying

wish it was in there Yeah, that could have been

just like sorry to hear about you and the mama

or something like that. Yeah All right, I think

that's gonna do it then for the college years
