Out of Toon and Hail Dufania

About this Episode
Women and children in the faint of heart may
wish to leave now Episode 26 day 26. This is
the final Cartoon review episode for Phineas
and Ferb season 1. We have made Nearly a month
out of this podcast so far One whole month of
summer daily podcasts of Phineas and Ferb. I
am your host TF2 and Mike joining me as always
is Peek on Crump Michael. Hello Hey, how's it
going? It stopped actually it's not going anymore
going anymore Somebody put up a red light and
no there is no sting song to accompany that it's
a it's a red light for season one Yes Pulling
these surprisingly there's no Roxanne either
damn And today we have out of tune in Hale Duphania
In that order Yes, that's what's coming up as
we've said for the last 25 days. We're watching
these on Netflix So, if the episodes are out
of actual order, blame Netflix, not us, because
that's what we pay Netflix for to watch these
episodes. So, we are going to go create cartoon
versions of ourselves. Oh wait, I already have
a cartoon version of myself, but you don't even
want a cartoon version of yourself. I totally
don't. Oh, come on. I don't even want to see
what that would look like. It could be fun. That's
not the kind of fun I'm looking for. Yeah. Oh,
God. What? No, flashing in my head is Bono. I
still haven't found what I'm looking for. I still
haven't found what I'm looking for. No, no. Not
going there. Sorry. You know, actually, folks,
We are getting really, really disturbed by Michael's
singing, so we'll be back after this. Oh, it's
my favorite kids show from whenever I land. Oh,
they don't make them like this anymore. Pinhead
Pierre has the smallest head of which I'm aware.
It's about the size and shape of a bear everywhere
that children stare. Life's cool and they're
fair to Pinhead Pierre. No more pointing and
laughing, kids, because now it's time for another
adventure of Captain... When we last saw our
hero, the earth was being threatened by evil
space aliens! Captain Implausible! That's right!
He possesses virtually every super power there
is. Wasn't that great kids? You can't beat Captain
Implausible! It's impossible! He's super freak!
That kid head was the best! And I happen to own
the single greatest collection of Pinhead Pierre
paraphernalia in all the world. Gosh. Oh yeah,
I'm not proud. Time for the question of the day.
Thank you, Debbie. And the question of the day
is, if you could have one superpower, what would
it be? You see, right there. Modern cartoon shows
never ask the really big questions, do they?
That's it. We could have as many superpowers
as we want if we were cartoons. Ferb, I know
what we're gonna do today. Oh well, at least
Perry will watch these with me, won't you, Perry?
Perry? Alright folks, we are so out of tune.
Well, Michael is. I'm not. I'm in tune with everything.
That's funny. And we've come back from the land
of confusion, so there's that. There's that also.
For out of tune, Phineas and Ferb are inspired
by their dad's favorite kids show to create a
cartoon with super -powered versions of themselves
and their friends. Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz
creates a machine that causes people to dance
uncontrollably. There you go. What are you eating?
What are you doing? Milky Way. I'm eating a galaxy.
I've turned into galactic. We we just had a break
before we started So anyway, as I was saying
Pinhead Pierre doesn't sound very British No,
I mean this is supposed to be like a tea at the
TV show a cartoon from his Childhood from his
childhood and you know, he grew up in Britain
Mm -hmm, and you would assume that a cartoon
from Britain would include British speaking people
and can have Pierre despite the fact that his
Name is Pierre which would in you know, maybe
a French accent exactly He sounds like he's from
New York Yeah It was very strange. I'm not sure
why that That decision was made. I don't know
if this is true and if we have any British Fans
out there you guys can let guys and girls can
let us know Maybe it was imported over there.
Maybe it was based here in the US. I'm sure this
isn't a real show well, no, but I I'm saying
that various countries get things imported to
them Via the airwaves, you know, I think they've
got like two channels there. So That's just insulting
come on now like BBC one and BBC two The BBC
Moving right along The animation studio yes,
I thought that was really really cool. Yeah Damn
Baljeet has a has a dark side. That's um Yeah,
I was not expecting Baljeet to have a dark side
You know, I'm yeah, I got nothing Thought it
was funny when he says I thought cartoons were
all done on computer This is just for show this
is just for show they are this is just for show
I Thought you know, there's kind of a fourth
wall being broken here where they're getting
all meta Mm -hmm. It's like oh what happens when
what happens when our show gets exported out
to What do they say Koreans or uh, was he the
outside the the anime studio Yeah, something
like that something like that, you know, they
did a similar gag on the clerks The clerks animated
series. Yeah, or they say yeah, we do the budget
reasons We had we didn't have the end of this
show. So instead we we just had the Korean animators
do whatever they wanted Oh, yeah, that was hilarious
Yeah, that was hilarious. Who is driving car?
Bear is driving car. How is this possible? And
then the car, the car transforms into a robot
and all the people inside are crushed and there's
blood spilling out of him. Ah, good times. If
you haven't, if you like clerks and you haven't
seen the animated series yet, go watch the animated
series. It's funny. Absolutely. So we've got,
um. It's What? Yeah, and Schmertz is going to
take over the world in the tri -state area by
the power of dance He's gonna let everyone just
dance to death It could happen and he lets the
dryer repair He leaves him in the closet let's
dance in there The dryer repairman muffled, oh
sweet horrible self -expression through movement.
What's funny though is Dufrin Smertz is dressed
as Flashdance. Yeah. While listening to the Bettys.
Yeah. Did you notice that? Yeah, he's uh... He's
not um... He's not right in the head this episode.
No, he's... I wouldn't call it cross -dressing
per se. Nothing wrong with that. I was just saying
he's dressed suspiciously like the 80s flash
dance. Yeah, well they gotta homage it somehow
because Charlene's not gonna come over and dress
up like that for him anymore. After all, they
are divorced. My favorite line the whole episode,
to add insult to injury, the platypus is leading.
Yeah, that's right. Because they won't get hit
with the danceinator. Yeah I forgot about that.
That is funny I like Isabel is totally dominating
on Buford. Yeah That's funny. She kind of always
is she's come to the forefront in the last couple
episodes. She has yes, she she kind of I Don't
want to say domed on him and got game, but that's
basically what happened. Yeah, she showed him
Absolutely. I love Baljeet where Isabella chooses
hers and Phineas goes to Baljeet and he's like,
Isabella took mine and I'm like, oh god, this
is so much about you, Baljeet, because he wanted
to be the unicorn girl. I thought he'd be like
the protractor Yeah, something to do with math
something to do with math exactly But I think
Candice gets the raw deal in all this yeah, she
does yeah, cuz she She ends up getting Not egged
she gets tomatoes thrown at her Yeah, well, you
know, she's evil. She's the bad guy. Well, you
know, and again, that's why she gets the raw
end, because she really thought that she was
going to be a part of this. And then they edit
it in posts and make it look like she's the bad
guy. And then she gets hit with tomatoes and
they're like, look, they love you. And she says,
love feels a lot like tomatoes. That's right.
That might have been the best line. Love feels
a lot like tomatoes. Part of Let's see here Did
you notice what the aliens in the Captain Implausible
cartoon are speaking? No Gitchy -gitchy goo.
I Did not pick up on that. No Wow -chicka -wow
-wow Yeah, that's funny. I did not pick up on
that know a lot of times when I'm I'm watching
the episode. My kids are watching it with me.
I'm wildly scribbling notes down, so I'll remember
half the things I'm watching. And I'll miss something
occasionally. Maybe once in a while. I like at
the end where the animation studio gets up and
dances away. Yeah. Because it gets hit by the
dance -nator. Yeah. That made absolutely no sense,
but it was like, oh, that's kind of funny. the
animation studio got up and danced away what
yeah it got up and danced away it got up and
danced away see mom it sounds even crazy when
you say it sounds even crazier when you say it
yeah that was funny so did you know that we have
another voice appearance of john dimaggio uh
who did he play Pinhead Pierre. No, well, no
wonder he didn't sound French and or British
I don't think I've ever heard John DiMaggio do
like a foreign accent I know Bender. That's what
I know from John. I know it's Bender. I'm not
trying to sound, you know, insensitive folks,
but that's really I know Bender. It's fun on
a bun. I like Bender. I like him in Adventure
Time. He does I mean, but it's kind of like I
don't want to say on the same level It's like
Steve bloom where you hear Steve bloom and it's
like, yep. That's Steve bloom, you know, cuz
he always sounds vaguely the same But yeah, a
lot of a lot of John DiMaggio stuff is like,
yeah, that's John DiMaggio. You can hear it you
can pick it out and You know, you'll be watching
something that I don't think he's on that show,
but you'll hear it and go. Oh, yeah, that was
him Yeah Verify it later on IMDB or something
or watch the credits, but he's a very notice.
He has a very noticeable voice Yes, well with
Steve Bloom except this time I did that pick
him out in a crowd Yeah, yeah with Steve Bloom's
voice where I always can pick him out is as Tom
from tsunami Because that's just classic. Well,
I mean, that's the problem though is there yeah,
not that it's a problem. I love Steve Blum I
love his voice. She's fantastic. But like when
you're in the middle of a video game and you
hear, you know Starscream You're like, oh, hey,
it's Steve blue, you know Yeah, it's like yeah
cuz they all sound kind of the same there. His
wheelhouse is very specific Yeah, it is very
much so is there anything about Out of tune that
you didn't like Well, you know again besides
John DiMaggio, sorry John his total and complete
lack of British accents I Don't know I probably
would have threw a three at this one We'll call
this one a three, you know, it was entertaining
Don't think that they I don't think that they
You know were quite as meta with this as they
could have been I mean this could have been like
a complete critique on on the animation process
that that You know, they're they're you know
involved with But I think they um They put a
couple of jabs in there, you know as far as like
well, this is the you know, the art area, you
know Yeah Well, I think with the animation studio
part of the episode that they basically paid
homage to all the classic animation bits, like
with the balloon thing, all the sound effects,
because that is how they originally did it way
back when. So it was more of an homage than anything
else than actually making fun of it. I really
enjoyed this episode. I'm only going to take
a point off for the thing dancing, getting up
and dancing away, so I'm going to give it a four
out of five. I can't believe they installed legs
on that thing. I don't know. I don't know how
the hell they used that. So we are going to visit
the country of Dufania. Are you ready for a vacation
to Dufania? I didn't pack clean underwear. Yeah,
okay, you know Damn I wasn't sure where to go
with that. I just said, you know, am I going
on vacation? I'm like, well, I forgot to pack,
you know my swim trunks I could have said swim
trunks that would have worked too. I Didn't pack
my swim truck Ladies and gentlemen Michael Wilson
has been too busy making plush models, so he's
lost half his brain cells. We'll be back after
this. Whatcha eatin'? Fruity rainbow flakes.
You want some? Oh, no, thanks. I already had
breakfast. You know, I've never really seen one
of these in real life. You haven't? No, but I'd
sure like to. Ferb, I know what we're gonna do
today. Hi, boys. Hi, Mom. What's with the satellite
dish? It's a protective collar. The vet says
that Perry needs to wear it for the rest of the
day. I still don't know how he scratched himself
up so much. Well, I think it's cool. It's a bold
fashion statement. All right, speaking of both
fashion statements. Have you seen Candice today?
What what the dry cleaner switched my clothes
with some goth chick I look like a total freak
like I'm all outsider. I wonder what happened
to Candice's clothes. I can't believe it Lacey.
I look like a walking candy cane I mean how many
evil scientist's daughters do you know who? Hold
on Lacey I can't hear myself gripe. Whatcha doin'?
Whatcha doin'? What does it look like to you?
I'm building an evil empire! My very own Fortress
of Evil -tude! Aren't you a little old to be
building a fort? No, no I'm not! Shut up! Dad,
I told you a hundred times! I - Don't forget,
Friday is Cake Day! I have to call you back.
What on earth is going on here Vanessa, but you're
looking Oh no matter where we're going you can
dress up like a clown every day if you want What
do you mean where we're going? We are moving
to a golden country on the sea a country created
by the greatest mastermind of our time me Assisted
by norms. I'm drilling I bring to you That city
sunk to the sea pretty fast. Goofania didn't
last very long. Shortest vacation ever. I know.
I'm sorry. I was just, I was thinking like, did
I mention swim trunks? Not this again. Candace
and Vanessa accidentally get their clothes switched
at the dry cleaners. Oh. While Dr. Newfenshmirtz
builds his own evil empire on an inner tube and
Vanessa tries to bust him. Meanwhile, Phineas
and Ferb create a rainbow -inator to show Isabella
her first rainbow. Right. That's what they do.
You know, it's funny because this episode kind
of swaps what's going on here. You know, where
the boys are making the inator. And you've been
smart says working on like building a project
And Vanessa's trying to bust her dad versus,
you know, Candice trying to bust your brothers
It's it's like it's opposite day even norm norm
gets to say what to do and Any episode with norm
in it, you know gets a five in my book. Oh, absolutely
So we can just skip this thing. We already know
what I'm gonna grade it. Yeah, norm is hilarious.
Oh But so speaking of norm Remember yeah, Friday
is cake day Friday is cake day Like Roger becomes
the mayor of Danville And to finish much says
norm. I know what we're gonna do today Well,
he doesn't quite say it like that, you know,
he's got he's got the accent that I can't do
Yeah, obviously, it's funny But yeah, but see
Roger wasn't Roger already the mayor cuz didn't
isn't he said already in the scene scene one
Oh my brother the mayor. Maybe I guess maybe
so where Roger was the mayor. I'm not sure Hmm
Hmm It's entirely possible. I just thought it
was funny The whole thing was funny. Candice
says, the dry cleaner mixed my clothes up with
some goth chick. I was like, all right, Vanessa's
back. I like Vanessa. All the good characters
are back. We should just dispense with the whole
A story and B story and just focus on a Norm
and Vanessa buddy picture. That would be a good
episode. Norm is drilling. That's not the kind
of buddy picture I'm talking about. No! No, no,
no, he says... That just shows up with a pizza,
it says. No, no, no. You're not Mr. Robinson,
Norm. No, no, no, no, no. That's right. No, he
says... Doofenshmirtz asks him something. Oh
no, Doofenshmirtz asked, because Norm has it
and Doofenshmirtz has it too. Doofenshmirtz asked
him, what you doing? No, I am drilling. I'm like,
Norm is drilling. I am drilling. I just think
it's funny that Norm and Doof are busy doing
a project. Vanessa's trying to bust her dad.
The boys are making an ater. It's just. Yeah,
I like the dichotomy here. headquarters because
apparently he got injured and he has to have
a cone on his head he never even shows up carl
he did know this was today right that's right
there sir so perry can't defeat you down there
though he what He does try everything under the
Sun to get down there. He really tries He really
wants to you know come through, but he just he
just can't And going with irony of the whole
episode at the end fan is just like it's the
end of the day You don't need to wear that anymore
Shows up shows up at the docks. Oh look Norm
Perry the platypus finally show That's right.
He's like, you know, normally this is where Perry
shows up and thwarts me but Okay, then I'm just
I'm just gonna go with it Mm -hmm. I mean technically
building your own city in the bay isn't really
evil per se but What he's trying again this whole
episode is a play a switch of everything that
the standard phoenix and for that so that's right
so it's trying to take over the tri -state area
he's going to create his own his own try state
area yeah yeah he goes out essentially kiss you
look at the title hail dufania all as i can think
of this friggin or fervent doctor doom with latveria
but that's really all i was thinking of the entire
time the duke was trying to build this i was
really surprised that there weren't more statues
Of himself. Yeah Yeah, cuz you would think you
know, I was kind of figuring if he was gonna
build a City for himself a floating city. Let's
say that it would look more like The the second
dimension Yeah, where you have lots of like police
state type paraphernalia scattered about At this
point, George Lucas had not sold his soul to
the mouse yet, but I was really hoping for Cloud
City. It's really what I was hoping for here.
Because that would have been epic and awesome
and so cool. Well, you got the exact opposite.
Yeah, you turn it upside down, make it float.
Yeah, I love Charlene's line at the end. Heinz,
you made a plush model. I had a lot of felt.
Way too much halibut. That's right, I had a lot
of felt why do you have felt lying around doesn't
make any sense Yeah, if you're very crafty I
guess crafty people probably have lots of like
pipe cleaners and felt and things that I wouldn't
normally have laying around my house Well, yeah,
you're you're not a master of Puggles like Callie.
So Callie has all kinds of stuff everywhere.
You got lots of felt that's right Yeah, that's
funny. So do family sinks into the sea and Perry
manages to destroy the the inator Yep, not do
senator. Do doesn't have an inator but the boys
in the rainbow inator the rainbow inator And
come to find out the whole time it wasn't a rainbow
that Isabella has never seen it was a unicorn
Unicorn we'll fix that later. Yeah, we'll fix
that layer Norm is the worst hide -and -seek
person ever. I'm over here, sir. You're drunk.
He doesn't actually say that, folks. I said that.
Oh, Norm, you're drunk. I like for questioning
the need for a self -destruct button. I Forget
exactly what he says and then you're at you bless
you Perry the platypus. It's sort of curse you
Perry the platypus It's just opposite day. It's
just yeah, you know Fun and again, it's one of
those things where I love it when they do stuff
like this Like we've gotten so many episodes
to this point of the standard The schtick, the
spiel. When I say standard, I don't want people
to get mad at me. I'm not saying that standard
in a bad way. I'm saying standard schtick of
how the episodes play out and how the formula
is. We have so many episodes of that. I love
it when they do stuff like this, because Phineas
and Ferb is like a box of chocolates. You never
know what you're going to get. I'm pretty sure
there's going to be chocolate in it, though.
And that's the thing is, when you watch the Phineas
and Ferb episode, you're always going to, it's
like, oh, what was that episode where Candice
was literally naming off, you know, what you're
doing, and I know what we're going to do today,
and five, four, three, two, how about some pie?
And these are things that you just expect. You
know, and, oh, hey, where's Perry? You know,
oh, there's Perry. You know, five, four, three,
two, there's Perry. You know, that type of thing.
And then here, they turn it on its head and they
do it as kind of like a thank you to the fans
for hanging out for the entire season. It's fantastic.
It's just really well done. It's consistently
funny. It's got... Candice in in in a slightly
ill -fitting Goth costume if they had if they
had tailored that more for her I think maybe
it would have been neat What was yes, he just
looks frumpy. He looks frumpy exactly. She looks
kind of like she's you know, I'm not supposed
to be in that and Then you've got Vanessa who's
who actually looks really good in Candice's clothes.
Yeah, like in you and don't in Candice's clothes
This is always an in you and don't I mean it
doesn't matter what she's wearing you you know
again as a throwback my boys and I were just
on you know on a fluke watching the Star Wars
episode and at the end you have Vanessa the Twi
'lek singing rebel rebel rebel yellow rebel rebel
rebel Yeah, what's the name of the song? She
sings at the end, but it's clearly Vanessa. It's
Vanessa's voice. She's singing, but it's a twilight
And it's like, all right, you know, you got me
at Twi 'lek. I'm sorry. Rebel Twi 'lek girl.
And I love the end of this episode, because they
both go back to the drag cleaners. Hey! They
know each other, though, right? I mean, they've
met before. Well, they do meet sometimes, but...
They don't hang out in the same circles. It's
kind of like when Doof did the musical lessons
with Jeremy and she goes up and says, oh, hey,
do you like, you know, sporking spoons or whatever
bandit, whatever metal bandit was, as she said.
And he goes, oh, no, I'm not into the heavy stuff.
She's like, I'm out here. Yeah. Well, you know,
she's not the type that hangs out at the mall.
Yeah. She's more into her. You know punk rock
concerts and such and whatever those goth kids
do and they're black leather get -ups and whatnot
And the underpasses with their with their raves
All right, so we give pale duphania. Oh heck.
It's a five Yeah, it's a fantastic episode like
I said, it's just a lot of fun When they turning
everything all the tropes that they've built
so carefully up to this point They just turn
them on their head and and you know, see where
the pieces lay this it's it's cute and it's consistently
funny and and it's like, you know, you're You're
like, wait a minute. Where does the a story and
the B story overlap? Well at this point you've
turned everything on its head Yeah, it's like
the story is the B story and the B story is the
a story something like that Yeah, it's just a
lot of fun. I would I would label this to five
quickly and happily it's it's kind of like musical
chairs of plot lines really Yeah, if the chairs
on the ceiling Like cherry cherry cherry the
cherry of the chair on the ceiling No, no, I'm
talking about like musical chairs like you used
to play in music class Well, you can't sit on
a chair if it's on the ceiling Well, if you're
on the ceiling, you know if you're dancing on
the ceiling sure you can sit on a chair on the
ceiling We're gonna break in the Lionel Richie
right now. No, I know we dance off you and me,
bro Oh, Ferb. Where there will be no brothers
trying to make me look bad, no. I will be the
ruler of my very own evil empire! You're building
your own evil land? Yes, yes, an evil country.
And you made a plush model. Well, yeah, you know,
I had a lot of... felt. You do know what this
means? That we'll finally have that special daddy
-daughter bond you've always craved? No. It means
I'm finally gonna have proof. Ha! You are busted.
I'm gonna tell mom. Great! Tell her what. Do

Saturday morning rewind was voted best podcast
ever by its host Tim Nydell. So it's gotta be
good. All right norm the anthem, please Does
it feel like it stops too quick there? We'll
work on it. We are back and season one is done.
Put a fork in it. Yep. No, put a furb in it.
A furb in it. That would hurt. But after the
furb, he got a little toasty. He went into the
end of season one. He's in the burn unit. Feel
the burn for you know, I really okay, so We have
for season two we've got season two coming up.
Okay, so In season two, I believe I could be
wrong But I believe we have at one point Is it
where's um, oh what the hell are you talking
about nerds is it nerds of a feather or is that
season three at one point coming up we have yeah
episode okay day 53 episode 53 of the podcast
which is part of season two we have nerds of
a feather parts one and two it's a two -parter
okay and in that they have this weird like Fan
off or whatever between speckys and Finkys and
at some point for some odd reason Phineas says
Glorf and I don't know why he says Glorf I don't
remember I've seen that episode so many times,
but I still don't remember at this point. So
everyone don't just let us figure it out, but
Ever since the Glorf line I can never not stop
saying Glorf and I blame Phineas Vincent Martella
Dan pop like I'm like Glorf Like, it's supposed
to be like a made -up word that one of the authors
wrote. It's kind of... Actually, yeah, I don't
know though. It's kind of like, uh, grok or something
like, like, you know, I don't, I don't, yeah.
Anyway, season one everybody! Whoo, put a fork
in it. It's done. Yeah, put a fork in it. It's
done. It's done. It's all, all done. Oh, I'm
so tired. It's been such a long month. Yeah,
I mean, really, it has been. Yeah, this is the
daily ritual. But, you know, starting tomorrow,
we'll do the recap and then we can kick off season
two. Yep. Season two kicks off with the Lake
Nose Monster parts one and two. That's a two
parter. Mm hmm. I don't remember that one being
a two parter. Yep. All right. Oh, that'd be a
good one right now. So you got a top season one
Yeah, here's okay. So here's a preview folks
of okay So as I said as we just said episode
27 is our season one Countdown recap kind of
thing for season 2 season 2 starts with episode
28 the late -nose monster parts 1 & 2 29 is interview
with a platypus Where's Tom Cruise when you really
need him as a vampire? And then we have Tip of
the Day in that same episode. Episode 30 is going
to be the first time we've done double tunes
in one podcast. So episode 30, we're going to
have Attack of the 50 -Foot Sister, Backyard
Aquarium, and Day of the Living Gelatin with
Elementary My Dear Stacey. Really? We've got
four cartoons in one podcast, so episode 30 is
gonna be a little bit longer. Why would we double
up like that? Because it was the only way for
me to be able to get the whole show into 104
episodes. Wow, okay. Well, I'm glad you put thought
into this. This is important. Well, I'm just
giving them a preview. Alright, that's cool.
Alright, back to... The closing of this show.
