11 of the 104 days of summer here on palca i

going it's going so yeah uh We're only 11 days

into summer, folks, and both of us have probably

gone nuts at least a few times already. I know

I kind of had a breakdown between episodes 6

.7 and 8 .2. Really? Well, 6 .7 was when I wasn't

recording. Like, damn it! I remember that. That

was only a few days ago. I remember the way it

was yesterday. Way to break the fourth wall,

Ferris Bueller. Jeez, come on now. For the people

listening, it would be a few months ago, actually,

that we actually recorded that episode. We're

speaking to you from the future. From the future.

Or the past. I don't know. Damn Xavier Onassis.

Alright, so today we have got two more Phineas

and Ferb episodes. We've got Mom's birthday and

Journey to the Center of Candice. So we're gonna

get into it after this. Ferb, are you hearing

what I'm hearing? Candice singing. early in the

morning mom it's your birthday thanks for all

the care and love you give yeah yeah that's all

right i like that mom it's your birthday it's

mom's birthday how can we forget mom's birthday

Where have all the days gone? We can't forget

mom's birthday. We can't forget mom's birthday.

Isn't there something I'm supposed to remember?

We should do something nice for mom. Well, with

dad being out of town on business and all. Okay,

Kanis, when's from the top? Mom, it's your birthday.

I got an idea. Eggs and bacon, oh yeah. Mom.

Let me be the first to say... Happy birthday,

Mom! We brought you some periodicals, like Mom

Daily, Mom Weekly, Mom Bi -Weekly, and, just

the way you like it, a half -cap, double -crap

mocha -choco -latte mezzo -espresso. Oh, wow.

You boys really outdid yourselves. Au contraire,

ma mère. I declare it's our mission to give you

the best birthday ever. So relax, enjoy some

reading, and no peeking till we come get you.

Alright folks, first up, Mom's birthday. Today

is Linda's birthday and Candice tries to make

it the best birthday ever, but every time she

does, Phineas and Ferb beat her to it. Meanwhile,

Dr. Doofenshmirtz tries to shrink everything

that he hates so he never has to see them again.

Oh boy. Still not trying to take over the world,

huh? Yeah, well I... Well, I think it's in I

think it's in a couple of days actually, it's

it's um It's day 14. Yeah, we'll get Dude we're

getting the band back together and I think in

that two -parter we actually see that Linda had

dated doofenshmirtz once Really back? Yeah. Wow.

So so she actually and I'm kind of spoiling this

for you, but I kind of spoilers Kind of have

to so so he said something about taking over

the world to her and she said well If you can't

do that, why don't you start out small by taking

over the tri -state area? So she essentially

gave him the idea You know, it's funny is that

oh man, is it this episode or the next episode

where we find out that Linda is actually friends

with his ex -wife Charlene yeah Charlene um it

is I Think it's the yeah, I think it's I think

it's yeah Wait ice cream you scream yeah, the

moms are cooking together. That's the yeah, but

aren't they doing they do that more than once

though Oh, yeah, they do yeah But I want to say

and that's tomorrow's person Could be but that's

tomorrow's episode. That's that's day 12 Day

11 yeah Day 11 has mom's birthday and journey

to the center of Candice. Yeah, we are Living

in some sort of causal reality here where we

can tell what's actually happening tomorrow All

right, so the yes, yes we do moments I love that

the boys keep out doing Candice. Candice can

never get a catch a break. She can't win on the

birthday department. I have yet to well by the

time this episode goes up I will have but just

I do screen I do get a lot of screen caps to

put in the post and stuff but I also put them

on Facebook and I have yet to put them The screen

cap I got of basically the up close of Candice's

face with the eggs and the bacon is a frowny

face. It's hilarious when they hit her with the

open door. Oh, yeah. That's right. She's like,

I made you up. Oh, I guess I didn't. And the

card, she actually eats the card. I felt bad

because she made a little card. I'm like, well,

that is so sweet, you know. My mom would have

loved something like that, you know, and and

then The the boys get her like this weird art

nouveau project, you know Yeah, it's a little

bit of Ferb say it's a combination of uh, origami

and pop -up or something or other fusion of origami

and pop -up Well, that's interesting. It's in

the six feet tall. Yeah well finis and ferb they

They do stuff bigger. They go home. Go big or

go home. That's right. That's right. I like the

chef Ferb chef for breakfast. It's got this weird

little French mustache thing going on. So weird.

The wax robots of Washington and Lincoln. Now,

that's funny. You know, I want to see. I don't

know if you've ever played Bioshock Infinite.

No. Okay. Well, there's a there's a scene where

they have like the Hall of Presidents So they've

got Abe Lincoln and wax Abe Lincoln and a wax

George Washington, but eventually they have a

weaponized George Washington the Iron Patriot

and It's it's like scary It's George Washington

with a Gatling gun And he's got these huge wings

made out of American flags. The Iron Patriot.

Are we sure Don Cheadle's not inside that armor?

Oh, that's a bad joke, right there. That is a

bad joke. Bringing the party to you. The Pelicans.

A bird or a giant garbage disposal? I thought

that was hilarious. Well, all the things he doesn't

like Yes, the pelicans the instruments that begin

with the letter B blinking turn signal the King

roads I think that begins with B Bay the bass

the banjo the bassoon the bongos the bagpipes

I At this point, I'm starting to really feel

sorry for Candice Every time she names it. It's

a good thing. I play the bagpipes. I'm like who

the hell plays the bagpipes it disappears. Yeah

It's like oh it sucks to be you so Because we're

watching these in the order that Netflix has

them weren't they're not actually we're not watching

them in actual production order because if you

look at the Finneas and Ferb wikia They list

the episodes completely differently than how

we've actually Really gone through yeah, because

they they they list them in production order

I guess and because we're watching them via Netflix

and it was just easier for me to List them the

way that Netflix has them paired up. All right

Instead of having us, you know, like watch one

episode One half of one cartoon and then go to

another cartoon and watch that second half of

that cartoon right make them Yeah, I didn't realize

that they were in different orders Yeah, some

some have production orders some have air date

order. Um, you know, I don't go to the wiki um,

if i'm making an observation in one of these

episodes Just because i'm something that i've

noticed personally, you know, I I use it as a

reference the only thing that I really copy out

of the face and for wikia is the mini like plot

description that's really the only thing i copy

out of there but i'll go to it for like a reference

or like if i wanted to see what what songs were

in the episode or that kind of stuff um but the

thing is is i'm wondering if there was an episode

before this in in some other watch order that

uh doofenshmirtz did the shrinkinator because

in this he calls it the shrink spheria Because

he says he's already done the whole shrinkinator

thing. Well, it's a sphere Yeah, I'm I know it's

a sphere But I'm just saying is he already done

the shrinkinator Yeah, he specifically says he's

already done the shriken shrinkinator things.

I'm like wait. When did that happen? Yeah, I'd

have to go back to like all of my notes to find

it. Yeah It's funny though. This isn't the first

time they they've made a reference to previous

adventures in this episode Because earlier you've

got the we can't forget mom's birthday montage

Yeah, it's like it's like they're they're they're

surfing and they're we can't forget mom's birthday

or they're on the roller coaster We can't forget

mom's birthday or they're being chased by dinosaurs.

We can't forget mom's birthday No, he actually

said what are we supposed to remember? I do love

the song and the montage with with Linda where

they say from the 80s to the 90s who is this

person we call I just I love that whole montage

at the end with the song. Yeah, that was No,

I don't think she's I still don't think she's

actually been introduced because I don't think

she's had much screen time But did you notice

at the end right before Candice goes up on stage?

Jeremy's mom is seen in the background as one

of the people at the at the thing. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah, I was like Other people are actually Like

background characters, yeah, we're just not familiar

with yet or maybe they have a design but They

haven't used it. Yeah. What else did you like

about this one? It was nice of the boys to include

Candice in the end. Yeah, because they keep showing

her up. You know, they get her a better breakfast.

They get her a better card. You know, they get

her better clothes. They get her everything.

And then in the end, it's like, oh, Candice,

you know, you made this song for mom. Get up

here and sing it. It was really nice. They're

not such evil little boys now No, no, they're

not the The quote from doofenshmirtz that I like

a lot. He's like yes. I am an evil genius Is

he's evil it is a genius I Don't also I'll admit

that he's doofenshmirtz is evil, but I don't

know about the genius well, you know we all All

I can think of is friggin' Sheldon from the Big

Bang Theory. Yes, I am a genius. My mom had me

tested. That's right. And, you know, one thing

I had to point out here. I don't know if they

were going for Raiders of the Lost Ark when they

had the wax president's melt. So we're going

for like this weird Terminator Raiders of the

Lost Ark hybrid It was just gruesome. I mean

they melted and they turned into killer robots

and I was like man some little kids gonna get

just freaked out and This is gonna be like the

scar that they have to have therapy for later

on in life This is scarring to children. It was

harsh man their faces melted off most children

nowadays Probably don't even know who Washington

Lincoln are. Let's face it. Oh, man The schools

still still still teach that part of history

now I think so, you know, they probably couldn't

tell you which president Lincoln was but they

could probably tell you he was a president He

was the 16th Woodrow Wilson in wax who what?

The funny thing is is that Abe actually come

not not this version of them, but another robotic

Abe Lincoln comes back later Really? Mm -hmm.

I'll watch out for that It's in a future episode

any no no, we don't moments for this one You

know that's the way that's the way you know out

of my way to make notes about I mean it was it

was cute There were a lot of nice moments. There

was anything that That really made me go is this

crap? You know because the coolest thing about

it was you know and we've talked about that We've

spent the last 10 days talking about this at

this point How the a story with Phineas and Ferb

and the B story with doofenshmirtz and Perry

tie together, right? Well the way it's tied together

in this episode is the fact of the shrink superior

and the musical Instruments that begin with the

letter B letter B. So yeah Yeah, so that was

kind of cool. So instead of making Phineas and

Ferb's inventions go away, they made Candace's

inventions go away. Poor Candace. Poor Candace.

She really got a raw deal on this one. Yeah,

it worked out in the end. Uh huh. Alright folks,

we're going to take a quick break, come back,

and we're going to head to the journey to the

center of Candace after this. What a beautiful

summer day. Do you boys have anything exciting

planned? We're either gonna make this nuclear

-powered submarine or this incredible shrinking

ray. But for some reason, Ferb and I can't seem

to make up our minds. Well, I've made up my mind.

You two have the most wonderful imaginations.

It's real, you know. What's real, dear? The submarine.

The shrinking ray. They're really gonna build

that stuff. Well, actually, we haven't decided

yet. Anyway, when I try to bust them, everything

will just magically disappear. Always happens.

You'll see. While you won't see, I'll see. Trust

me. As usual, the imagination in this room is

astounding. Paul? Hi, Candice. It's Jeremy. I

was wondering if you wanted to go for a walk

today? I would very much enjoy going for a walk.

Wherever shall we go? To my uncle's restaurant?

Yes, that sounds doable. Why not pick me up around

noon? Okay. Goodbye. Oh my gosh! Guess who just

called and asked me out on a date! Jeremy! Hold

on! Let's conference in Jenny! Okay! Let's go

outside! Submarine? Shrinking rain. I just can't

make up my mind. Whatcha doin'? Oh, hi Isabella.

Hi Phineas! You remember Pinkie. Oh yeah, hi

Pinkie. Hey, check out my new sash! It's got

all my accomplishment patches sewn onto it. See?

Wow, that looks totally irreplaceable. Oh no!

Pinkie, I made that sash for a fireside girls

ceremony this afternoon! Don't worry Isabella,

we'll get your sash back. But how? It's in Pinkie's

stomach. Hmm. Ferb, you're a genius! Hey, where's

Perry? Alright folks, it is time for the journey

to the center of Candice. Isabella's dog, Pinky,

eats her sash. So the boys build a mini -submarine

to retrieve it, but instead they end up inside

Candice. Perry is forced to take a direct action

when Dr. Doofenshmirtz's latest scheme specifically

threatens Phineas and Ferb. Okay, so we've got

Journey to the Center of the Earth, and we've

got that classic Dennis Quaid Martin Short Meg

Ryan film, Inner Space. Inner Space. You know

what? You're not old enough to understand these

things. How do you know that? Inner Space was

a comedic play on Journey to the Center of the

Earth. I'm sorry. Journey journey fantastic journey,

that's it. It had the word journey in it. Don't

stop believing The so that movie was Don't stop

the Sandman don't stop exactly I'm getting way

off topic here. Yes, you are a fantastic journey

was about a guy who was sick and they had he

was really important because apparently I don't

know he he was the only person that could defuse

the nuclear weapon or something. So they had

to they had to rescue him By shrinking a team

of scientists down in a submarine and putting

them into his bloodstream Right and and they

were on on the clock You know, so I mean that

that's it's essentially, you know, it's been

done to death I mean, it's a very famous older

movie from like the 60s or 50s or something It

was like movie of the week when I was five or

six, you know, so I've seen it a bunch of times.

But yeah, Inner Space, that was all right, you

know, if you like Martin Short. Don't you? OK.

Yes, Martin Short is not the best actor in the

world. He's not but he's not in any means the

worst actor in the world either. There are plenty

of other bad actors. I'm looking at you, Hayden

Christensen. Oh, I'm trying to remember the name

of the kid, Lloyd. Jake Lloyd. That guy's in

jail. Look at you, Jake Lloyd. Yeah, at least

Hayden Christensen isn't in jail. He's like,

jail. Oh, God. Imagine this. Young Anakin and

Screech sharing a cell. Oh, no. OK, so Inner

Space, I've always loved Inner Space because

of Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan more so than...

Martin Short, I mean Martin Short's in there.

He's he's the majority of the movie But it's

a fun little movie and I really really enjoy

it So as soon as I saw this and I'm like, hey,

I know where they got that from Well, I know

where they got part of it from. What ever happened

to Dennis Quaid? What's he doing nowadays? I

don't know his brother fled to Canada and did

some crazy Randy's gone nuts. So wasn't he always

nuts? Yeah, yeah, like enemy mine with Luke Gassa,

Jr Yeah, that's like a classic. I watched that.

I watched that forever. Last thing I remember

Dennis clade in was G .I. Joe Rise of Cobra.

Oh, yeah. With. Wait, wait, wait, wait. With

Bruce Willis? No, G .I. Joe Rise of Cobra. Was

that the first one or the second one? Second

one. Yeah, the second one. No, that was the first

one. All right. Oh, yeah, because he played.

He played the he played Hawk crime. Yeah, general

Hawk, but well, yeah, okay, so he wasn't in the

second one. Mm -hmm. How are we off topic? Now

we're getting in the geek culture they can sink

your teeth into All right, so submarine or shrinking

ray How about both how about both? Okay, so here's

a little continuity Mm -hmm Jeremy called once

you go on a date first date Yeah, I pretty much

say it is yeah, we were just like talking about

this the other day where it was like are they

dating are they girlfriend or that but this might

be the first date I'm not even sure if he considers

this a date. He's just like hey, you want to

go to the mall and she's like And she calls Jenny

by name Yep, we've met Jenny before right at

this point. I Think we've seen her. I don't think

we've actually heard not have had a name She'd

know she had a name. Okay Like I think it was

um Lawn gnome Lawn gnome beach party of terror

because everybody showed up at the at the beach

party and And I think Candice said, oh, I'll

invite Stacey and Jenny or something or other,

and they showed up together. But we haven't actually.

I don't think Jenny has had a speaking rule at

this point. Just to put a cap on the Dennis Quaid

stuff, between 2009 and this year. 2009 was Rise

of Cobra. He did Soul Surfer in 2011. Some version

of Footloose. uh... what to expect when you're

expecting he was in that horrible movie forty

three the uh... left earlier it's movie forty

three is basically think of not another teen

movie but worse it's basically grab every singles

popular star you can think of uh... throw them

in one movie uh... yeah uh... right i kind of

feel bad for him now yeah it's uh... You still

try anyway, you gotta hand it to him. He's still

trying. Plug him away. Plug, plug, plug, plug,

plug. Alright, so back to the journey of Senator

Candice. The make up your mind -inator. That's

right. Still not trying to take over the world.

No. You know, it's like I'm waffling, you know,

I'm not sure which way I want to go Do I want

to go with the submarine or do I want to go with

the shrink ray? This is what really really gets

Perry's attention. He's like, well, wait a minute

You pull the trigger on that thing. It's gonna

it's gonna kill off my boys. I can't have that

so exactly yeah just captures him immediately

and he calls monogram he's like wait you've already

captured doofenshmirtz we're mixing it up a little

that's right but it's funny because he's like

wait wait a minute wait you're gonna blow up

my kids i just got to take you out we're not

we're not messing around now we're gonna jump

straight to the chase i like the greetings from

perry snow globe Yeah, he was gonna trap in a

giant snow globe. First of all, wouldn't you

drown in there? Well, he's semi -aquatic, I guess.

Yeah, he's semi -aquatic. He wouldn't drown.

He'd be okay. Agent P, backup is on the way.

Well, it would be if we had some... Wait, what?

We just saw all the other animal agents a few

days ago. How do they not have backup? We're

inside Candice. That is creepy on so many levels.

She's on her date with Jeremy, which means we're

on a date with Jeremy again So creepy on so many

levels So creepy You know, it's really creepy

is uh, they're they're talking about passing

her spleen and there's an eyeball Watching them

as they go by and like why is there an eyeball

there? She like absorb a twin or something? I

don't know. They're traveling on the hemoglobin

highway. The lyrics of the song were really funny.

Yes. They should play that in the middle of a

fantastic journey. I keep wanting to say Journey

to the Center of the Earth. But yeah, Journey

to the Center of Candice is not the same as Journey

to the Center of the Earth. Which is yeah, it

has more in common with I'm just beating a dead

horse at this point. Yes Yeah, do so do falls

into the sub and gets shrunk and ends up inside

pinky now. That's funny I will then pee all over

they try estate area Still wrong on so many levels

This whole episode is wrong You would think that

Doofenshmirtz could do more evil with a shrinking

submarine than he could with pretty much any

anator. He's made in the last three episodes

Mm -hmm Yep, yep, what else did you like about

journey to the center of Candice? I like the

new sash she says this is my new sash and Phineas

says wow that looks totally irreplaceable That

looks totally irreplaceable and I thought oh

Something horrible is gonna happen. Yep, like

you're awful rat dog Your nervous little rat

dog is gonna eat it Oh Terrible and then at the

end Pinky threw up my sash gross, but cool. Yeah

Threw it up. It's like yeah, it looks totally

irreplaceable now. It's irreplaceable and covered

in dog vomit Yeah, yay, I wouldn't wrap that

around me, but sure You didn't have to go through

the wash first Any no no we don't moments on

this one You know it neither one of us has mentioned

the the building with the a giant vacuum on top

of it that was kind of strange and you know what

the first thing i thought of was the fact that

it was strange that it worked you could actually

turn it on and it would vacuum the top of the

building that was kind of yes that okay then

there's also the fact of I'm gonna turn her from

suck to blow. It's essentially It's essentially

a vacuum version of meter made from spaceballs

Yeah, mega made no mega mega made a meter made

she's gonna give us a ticket Possibly it's terrible

mega made one from sucked up below Okay, now

What do you think? What would you have given

this if you were gonna agree? I'd give it a four.

Really? Yeah, I liked it. I thought it was cool.

I thought it was interesting. All right Sure.

I mean his his scheme Was okay, I mean I mean

really it's not even like Don't even think he's

really out to destroy people. He's just he just

wants them to make up their minds Yes, the whole

part the whole part of the different schmertz

plot is his whole complaint is Some guy at the

pizza parlor ahead of him won't decide on you

know pepperoni or sausage. That's essentially

what it is. Yeah, so If you really boil it down

if we really analyze that plot, it's really just

only having people make a choice Yeah And the

funny thing is is that that Not that not this

exact same plot, but that kind of the same thing

happens later in the series to Baljeet in an

episode where he ends up like Bells, I don't

know somebody creates I think the first words

create some sort of decision inator or something

or Baljeet does something and it creates he infinitesim

for a great something where He won't have to

always make so many decisions and every decision

he makes ends up, you know, they basically took

this episode and what's the one with him and

the copies? That's, um, oh God. The Cloninator.

No, not the Cloninator. That's, um, damn it.

It's coming up. Yeah, it's coming up. So there's

an episode where Doofenshmirtz basically office

spaces himself and makes copies of himself. Oh,

It's it's just a little weird. But I mean, overall,

I did really enjoy it. I like the inner space

references, you know, to the whole inner space

thing, because I like that movie. like that Phineas

and Ferb really recognize how creepy, at least

Ferb recognizes how creepy being inside their

sister is. I thought that was hilarious. Oh,

God. Well, when you put it like that, now we're

both inside our sister. This is just one of those

levels that this is wrong. But he actually got

two lines in a single episode. Yep. Just to point

out how specifically creepy this was. Absolutely.

So that's, like I said, I really enjoyed it.

So that's why I'm gonna give it a four. What

about you? Yeah, it was fun. I'm probably gonna

go with a three. Because it wasn't like... In

fact, I don't think I even remember what the

song... Oh yeah, the song was about... Yeah,

going inside Candice. It's Hemoglobin Highway.

That sounds even worse! Candice on the hemoglobin

highway. No, that's uh, that sounds like you

were talking like ant flow material here Yeah,

I want to make sure they went in the right way

references like i said the various things uh...

you know they're actually making a cartoon show

that's interesting for children, but great for

us adults who are in the geeked -um world and

all that stuff. It's just very, very cool. I

think as we get farther along in the episodes,

it's the summer, let's say, at least in this

first season, we're starting to get into jokes

that are aimed toward adults. Oh, absolutely.

You go, wow, I don't think kids would catch that.

But yeah, I appreciate it. It's good stuff. Absolutely.
