It’s About Time Parts 1 and 2 Review

About this Episode
There's a hundred and four days of summer vacation,
then school comes along just to end it. So the
annual problem for our generation is finding
a good way to spend it. Like maybe building a
rocket, or fighting a mummy, or climbing up the
Eiffel Tower. Discovering something that doesn't
exist, or giving a monkey a shower. Surfing tidal
waves, creating nanobots, or locating Frankenstein's
brain. Finding a dodo bird, painting a continent,
or driving our sister insane! Vinius! As you
can see, there's a whole lot of stuff to do before
school starts this fall! Come on, Barry! So stick
with us, cause Vinius and Ferb are gonna do it
all! So stick with us, cause Vinius and Ferb
are gonna do - Hello and welcome to the seventh
day of summer here in the podcast organization
with a cool acronym. Yes, that's right. It is
day seven. You know, 104 days of summer, 104
podcasts. I am one of yours. Steve, you're like
joining me as always is peak on quote Michael.
Hey, how's it going? It's going, it's going.
Uh, today's theme folks is time travel. As we
all know it's best to go through time and not
through time and space because there's all kinds
of screwed up blue box bull snot with Daleks
and God knows what else with crappy companions
and whatever else it's it's better to just have
some time circuits a Hoverboard and you know
Biff's Kane this quick Not this quick Biff's
Kane. Oh It's Kane Hello McFly Hello McFly Hello
McWilson what's going on in that radio? Hello
Hello Think McFly think Okay Biff you're right
you're right when you're right you're right you're
right And just just think George McFly went on
to be the creepy -haired dude in Charlie's Angels.
That's right. That's funny. He also went... Oh,
I forget the name of the Willard remake. Was
it just called Willard? I don't know. Well, it
was like Crispin Glover and the Rats. Creepy.
OK, on that note, folks, we're going to head
to the Mesozoic area. Hey, you know kids these
fossils are of creatures that live right here
in Danville millions of years ago Lucky these
things aren't still here today. No lucky would
be if we weren't still here today Oh look this
t -rex footprint was found not 30 yards from
this very spot Hey, and it says here that this
fossil was dug up right near our very own neighborhood
Didn't we have a dog named Bucky who got sick
and went to live on kindly old man Simmons farm?
Let's move on shall we this next exhibit is kindly
old man Simmons. Hey who's up for milkshakes?
Gadgets through the ages. This exhibit was made
for us, Ferb. Hey, what are all those people
looking at? And this is one of our most curious
pieces. A time machine made by a 19th century
scientist named Xavier Onassis. But of course
we know he never finished it, or else we'd still
see him here today. Right? Right? Anyone? All
right. Moving on. All right, it's about time
parts 1 & 2 Phineas & Ferb repair a broken time
machine from the museum and then they then travel
back in time Accidentally taking Candice with
them the fireside girls build a replacement machine
to rescue them Meanwhile, Diffin Schmertz replaces
Perry with a new nemesis named Peter the Panda
Making Perry depressed. Oh Oh poor platypus.
I know So As I said yesterday, this is our first
kind of full length, one story, not two separate
cartoons in a 30 minute time span or a 23 minute
time span, whatever it is without commercials.
So this is the first full length Phineas and
Ferb story. It's about time. What did you think
when you initially saw this episode? I got to
the end of the episode and the credits started.
And I'm like, what? That's it? Number one, I
wanted more. Number two, I was really surprised
that it wasn't split up into two parts. And number
three, it was totally okay because it was awesome.
Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today. Right.
Let's fix us a time machine and I'm just gonna
go on the assumption that we're still connected.
Yes Strange awkward Silence. Ferb took over my
body. I mean, what do you want me to say? I don't
know, man. I mean, you know, we need, okay, so
folks - He was busy airing up the inflatable
Ferb. No, no, no. Okay, so folks, generally and
normally in any podcast, you do not want dead
air. With the exception of a Phineas and Ferb
podcast, I truly believe because anytime I will
do that, it's basically to homage Ferb. Because
as we all know, Ferb doesn't say a damn thing
half the time. He gets, you know, one or two
lines usually per cartoon. Right. All right.
So the yes, yes, we do moments. There is just
so this because this is essentially an oversized
Episodes just so much giant size number one Yeah,
pretty much going back in time and then setting
up the dr. D peter panda thing so much awesome.
Yeah, but the time machine time makes ties And
then you get dr. Phil. Oh, I mean dr. Feel better
dr. Phil better You know dr. Phil better. Yeah,
it was funny as it had dr. Phil better Which
is funny because it kind of looked like Dilbert.
Yeah, which might also be a Play on Phil Phil
for all better. I don't know but the whole episode
not the episode episode but the episode of the
talk show I'm getting very meta here played out
more like Jerry Springer Yeah, it really did
the Panda comes out like Like you can't judge
me. You don't know me. Yeah. Yeah. Even though
he doesn't talk, you could see it in the body
language. I think it was an homage to all of
the various talk shows. I mean, the only thing
that isn't really there is anything from Oprah
or Sally, Jesse, Raphael or Ricky Lake. Well,
I don't think they hosted that type of, you know.
Oh, Geraldo Rivera, that's where the throne and
chairs comes from. Yeah. Yeah. He's like, you
see the panda throwing a chair and he's like,
thank you for sucking my chairs. I need that.
I cracked up. That was funny. We're getting ahead
of ourselves though. Let's start at the beginning.
What's at the beginning? Bucky the dog and kindly
old man said The fossil looked like a dog with
a collar that said Bucky it's like this is we
have a dog named Bucky they went to go live with
kindly old man Simmons and then It was dug up
That was kind of a weird one -off gag, but it
made me giggle. Well, maybe it's the time that
I've seen this episode now that maybe it's because
at this time where we're just past the release
of Captain America Civil War and all that, it
came out in May of this year. Oh, Bucky Burns.
All's I can think of is oh my god Michael J Fox
and whoever the hell plays Bucky Barnes You know
my Teen Wolf Michael J Fox turned into a dog
and it ended up being Bucky Barnes Really oh
All right, anyway, I was gonna say that the guy
who played that is the guy who played that I
don't think that's the same guy No, it's not
this. No, I'm saying if you combine The fact
that Bucky in the show is a dog. You have to
use Michael J. Fox's as Teen Wolf for the dog
reference. And then because the name is Bucky,
it's Bucky Barnes as a dog. Anyway, isn't that
impossible? That's a possibility. Yeah, that's
a possibility. That's right. That was a good
line. Isn't that possible? Well, that's a possibility.
First appearance of Carl, the intern. Yeah. They
call them by name, but this is the first time
we've actually seen him Yep, absolutely and he
becomes a major player. Oh Yeah, yeah But yeah,
the the clearly the best part of this episode
is when doofensmarts gets caught cheating He's
just like it's not that I don't hate you anymore
Just a little hate you like that now. Yeah, he's
backpedaling so well. Well, you know, it's like
It's kind of like You know what your girlfriend
shows up at your house and you got another girl
in there with you and it's like whoa Hey, don't
look behind that door. Oh you look behind the
door. Oh, no It's uh, it plays out like that
but opposite because it's you're not supposed
to be Love someone with your nemesis. You're
hating your nemesis. He's just like You know
why don't you just go you're really making this
awkward? And this is the debut of the theme song
my nemesis Yeah, in fact, I want to say there's
there's two songs here Yeah, yeah, they have
the the breakup montage song Yeah, Perry has
the bad breakup and he he sings the song Well,
they don't he doesn't sing but he doesn't say
yeah, he's a put his platypus. He isn't too much
But there's a song and a montage about how he
really enjoyed fighting with his nemesis And
the second song was my nemesis Yeah, you know
it it should have really been a huge hint that
there was not only was there two songs episode,
there were two Ferb lines. Yep. Ferb actually
had two lines in this. At the second, you know,
the second Ferb line, it should have been like,
whoa, this is clearly two episodes. Sandwiched.
Yeah. I mean, I think when they initially aired,
they were two separate episodes when they initially
aired, I believe. Again, I'm not looking at the
Wiki to find this out, but I believe they were.
But the way that they've put them on DVDs and
the way they're on Netflix, it runs as one episode,
which I actually prefer it that way because I
just think, especially with this series, when
you have a two parter, when you have something,
say part one and part two, I think they should
run concurrently, not separately. Well, that's
probably how they do the commercials or something.
Yeah, true. Like that Ferb line this could be
a problem Yeah, this is the t -rex. He's like
I will take me home. Okay, that won't be a problem
And then the t -rex steps on the time machine
and Ferb says this could be a problem That made
me giggle I Love the scooter that they're on
trying to get away from the running t -rex that's
chasing them. Yeah I remember as a kid, I don't
know, between probably 6 and 11, I was super
into dinosaurs. I was into all that stuff. And
I haven't been into dinosaurs in a long, long
time, but episodes like this every now and then,
from this cartoon or from any other cartoon,
you know, just absolutely bring me back to my
childhood when I used to absolutely love talking
about dinosaurs and all that stuff. Because I
think the closest thing I get to now is like,
you know, Grimlock, Slag, Sludge Jurassic World
I saw Jurassic World twice, it was awesome But
yeah, now this episode you have you have time
travel Specifically like H .G. Wells time travel
and dinosaurs So awesome And then you have the
the back of the future montage where things that
Happening in the past affect the future because
you have them right Candice makes the heart with
the C and the J and and then you know she falls
down in the in the in the mud and and Florence
sees her dad sees it. Oh, doesn't this look like
Candice and then they drive through it and it
doesn't look like her anymore Did you notice
that like the time problem because they show
the fossil with her face and he goes, it looks
just like Candace. And then he runs off to get
Lindana and and then the boys drive over it.
Right. Right. And their scooter and it splashes
it. And then by the time he brings Lindana back,
it's got a line through it and looks just like
Candace. And she's like, that's being dear. Yeah.
But then five minutes later, they find another
print. but it doesn't have Candice's face next
to it or a line through it. And Phineas says,
don't you know what this is? This is the exact
print that's in the museum. And then he writes
a message in it. And I'm like, wait a minute,
that's not the same print because that's not
the one with the indentation next to it. Yeah,
but yeah, so yeah, that's maybe that was an error.
Maybe it was creative license. I don't know I
think that was more of an error because it looked
like there were two separate ones Yeah, it's
like was he running around in a big circle that
they run back to that print and then somehow
smudge off all the Anyway There's a slushy dog
in the museum It's new It's slushy dogs, they
just make them all over the place, you know,
they they put them by the By the my rush bar,
you know, they put them in the mall. They put
them in museums And he's the only guy that ever
works in these places. It's just him Yeah Well,
they have to do something with him Because he's
Candace's crush and all that and you gotta have
her, you know, obsessing because that's part
of her character. She obsesses over busting her
brothers and she obsesses over Jeremy. And that's
the whole point of her character. She can't pick
between the two because it's such strong feelings
either way. She wants to get her brothers in
trouble and she wants to, you know, run away
with Jeremy. She wants to run away. And the thing
is, yeah, her, uh, her, uh, her, uh, her infatuation
with Jeremy. uh overrides or the need to bust
your brothers sometimes it does in many cases
yeah she's just like you know what i gotta make
a choice here and i'm gonna there's one that
we'll see later where she's uh where she's hallucinating
a whole bunch of stuff and And Jeremy actually
asks her to marry him and she goes, no, this
is the weird part. I see that zebra all the time.
Oh, okay, Candace. That's the weird part. I see
that zebra. It's Kevin. Hello, Kevin. Yeah. It's
Kevin the Zebra. That's funny. What I love about
this is they actually will make mention of this
later, this entire adventure later in Quantum
Boogaloo. And I kind of wish Baljeet was here
somewhere, like at the end of the episode or
something, because it would have been kind of
cool, but it kind of works out itself out when
we get to that later episode. Yeah, but it's
about time. It's a really cool episode. I actually
like the longer story format. I like how obviously
how fluid it is and whatever else and the overall,
you know, the A story and the B story kind of
really don't even intersect here. Well, they
do, but they do inadvertently. As Dr. Newfin
Schmertz would say, you know, This happens so
inadvertently or maybe it happened virtually.
Who knows? It says rather inadvertent and by
inadvertent, I mean totally vertebrate All right,
you a little young to be working in a museum
I Forgot what he how he answered it actually
but it led immediately into the well, it's a
It's nice to see young people taking an interest
in the museum. I appreciate having the whole
half hour here basically because each of these
storylines, it's a strong storyline. The time
travel one was really good. I like the candy
-saurus or candysaurus. Yeah, she pokes her head
out like a furry dog and they're all like It
was funny and and the whole the whole You know
doofenshmirtz and Perry breakup The breakup storyline
was was so well done there was so much attention
to detail there that I I Would not have been
as happy with it if they had cut that in half.
Right. And try to tell it that way. Yeah. Yeah.
Stories like this are better as full half hour
episodes. Yeah. That's right. If you're gonna
have a singular B story with Doof and Schmertz,
you know, it's fine in just one episode and then
have a different backstory, you know, have a
different story with him in the second cartoon
that's separate. It's a separate plot line, but
these overall stories are just absolutely awesome.
So what would you rate? It's about time. Oh,
we're going to give this another five. Yeah,
totally five. Yeah, absolutely. Fives all around.
So that's oh, you know what? You know what else?
One more thing before we wrap this up. Lots of
other agents. Yeah, this is the first time they've
actually said oh, you know, you know, we have
we have the agency without a cool acronym, but
But there's an agency there. There's a lot of
Bad guys lots of super but they haven't they
haven't introduced love muffin yet but but they
But they they have come out and said yeah, they've
shown Bunches of evil villains and bunches of
agents and how their relationships are You know
that they they pair up as nemesis and villain
or or good guy bad guy nemesis pairs This is
the first time we see most of if not all of the
members of what will eventually become love muffin
And we see most of if not all of the regular
animal agents and They pretty much they introduce
them all right in this one clip without or white
right in this one scene without really having
to introduce them All of the time, right? Right
because you always see that agent C goes at you
know The chicken agent goes after this one guy
the dog agent D agent D the dog goes after the
other guy Yeah, and it's it's really cool that
they were able to just do that as as one thing.
Yeah Without needing to take up time Having to
introduce them all right and I want to say earlier
There was a an episode where they they didn't
introduce but the panda was in it No, this is
Peter the pandas first. I mean he might have
shown up. Well, he showed up because it was an
instance where What was it where where Perry
had the jump in the tube and go all the way?
He was somewhere Maybe yeah, I want to say maybe
it was the maybe it was when they went to Mount
Rushmore and They were far away and he had to
take this tube all the way there and at one point
there was a juncture where two tubes met and
Yeah, Perry stopped and a panda came and he stopped
and they kind of both kind of tipped their hat
and then kept going Yeah, so that was our first
idea that wait a minute Perry's not the only
secret agent Mean I didn't really think he was
I just it just doesn't seem like they have that
organization without a cool acronym and So you
assume there's there's more than just you know
Monahan and their major moment monogram monogram
monogram Monahan my honey Yeah, no, there's more
than just major monogram and Perry But that was
the first time that you actually saw some type
of structure like wait a minute. There's another
guy There's another agent. Maybe there's you
know, others other Super villains and and then
here we are with all of our mad scientists and
all of them have lab coats It's like why are
all these pharmacists here? I don't understand
Yeah, according to the Finneas and Ferb Wiki
his first actual appearance was this episode
it's about time Well, they didn't name him before
he was just a guy of the Sun right yeah the guy
of the tube Yeah, but yeah, but then we have
seen him once Yep, we didn't realize that he
was moving in on his territory Just love the
whole Seattle thing. It's like oh, it's where
grunge bands live It's like transporting me back
to the 90s. Holy crap Yeah, excellent episode
though. It was really absolutely a lot of fun
Yeah, we're gonna take a quick break come back
with closing the show after this cool That's
a possibility. Alright, folks, that's going to
