About this Episode

Mike and PecanCtMichael analyze the episodes "Raging Bully" and "Lights, Candace, Action!" from Phineas and Ferb. They discuss Buford and Baljeet's series debut, the Slavenator's potential, and the use of guest stars like Evander Holyfield. The hosts also look at how "Lights, Candace, Action!" parodies YouTube culture and the show's slow, effective character progression throughout the first season.

There's a hundred and four days of summer vacation

And school comes along just to end it So the

annual problem for our generation Is finding

a good way to spend it Like maybe building a

rocket Or fighting a mummy Or climbing up the

Eiffel Tower Discovering something that doesn't

exist Or giving a monkey a shower Skirping tidal

waves Creating nanobots Or locating Frankenstein's

brain It's over here! Hello and welcome to episode

5 of Palka! What the hell is Palco? Well, if

you don't know by now, it's the podcast organization

without a cool acronym brought to you by the

GeekCast or Radio Network. I am one of your hosts,

Steve Jordan Mike, and joining me to speak on

your call, Michael. Hello. Hey, how's it going?

It's going. Today is the fifth day of summer,

which means that we are just beginning our journey

with Phineas and Ferb. Are you ready to jump

on the roller coaster? This one isn't about roller

coasters. No, no, not this one. But, uh, yeah,

no, this one, um, movie magic and raging bullies.

That's right. Are you ready to wear the party

hat of doom? Yeah. Oh God. Are you ready? Are

we all ready to become the Punisher? Oh Lord.

So we're going to get to it with raging bully

after this. Jeremy is so cute, especially when

he's in his Mr. Slushy Dog uniform. Candace,

my jazz trio has a gig at the Squat and Stitch

today. Why don't you, Phineas and Ferb hang out

at the mall together? The mall? I can visit Jeremy

and Mr. Slushy Dog! Testing? Welcome, everyone.

We'll be playing some freeform jazz today. It

might get a little crazy, so hold on to those

knitting needles. Hit it, girls! All right, squirts,

here's your cut. I'll see you back here in two

hours. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to

Mr. Slushy Dog. Hey, where's Perry? Sorry about

that, Agent PR. Slide -waxing guy has jury duty

this week. Anyhow, Doofenshmirtz has purchased

some suspicious items. Four helicopter blades,

two dozen party balloons and light bulbs. Six

thousand of them. He's hiding out at the old

abandoned cake factory on the edge of... Carl,

the light bulb and the six thousand, still on

screen. Ah, thanks, Carl. Locate Doofenshmirtz

and figure out what he's up to. Don't fail us,

Agent E. Alright folks, first up is Raging Bully.

Buford challenges Phineas to a thumb wrestling

competition. Phineas receives training by guest

star Evander Holyfield. Meanwhile, Dr. Duven

Schmertz invents the Slave Inator to get people

to attend his birthday and clean up afterwards.

Dr. Duven Schmertz just writes on his keyboard

what he wants people to do for him. His orders

appear on giant screen and people get hypnotized

and... Immediately, they go do it, essentially.

Got a lot of guest stars in this episode. A lot?

Well, two more than usual. Besides Evander Holyfield?

Mm -hmm. Okay. Let's get ready to thumb -ramp

Michael Buffer. Let's get ready to rumble! Oh,

you know what? I thought it was that guy, but

I could not put a name to that guy. Good old

Michael Buffery, yep. Oh no, as soon as I heard

the voice, I'm pretty sure I knew it was him,

but I checked the Phineas and Ferb Wikipedia

just in case. And it is. Well that's cool. I

wasn't sure if Evander Holyfield actually did

the voice for this. But I just assumed. They

can't use his like this and not his voice. I

believe it's him. You know, they used his likeness

so much that they even included the bite mark

on his ear. I was like what's wrong with his

ear? Oh my god. There's a bite out of his ear

That was funny, that's that's right Nothing like

old boxing Injuries to make a good joke. Yeah

It was an attack the guy still got injured he

got his ear He didn't just bite his ear, he bit

it off. He bit a good chunk of it off. I mean,

it wasn't like, you know, reservoir dogs. It

was just a chunk of it. I would argue that any

piece of your ear, be it a chunk or the entire

thing, is important. Yeah. You need it. I would

assume so. You don't want it bitten off. Everybody

part is important. There is no such thing as

organ donation for science Do without a spleen

I think One kidney or two that's an appendix

you don't need that appendix I like this one,

because I really want the Slavenator. I think

that's the coolest thing he's come up with so

far. There's so many uses for a Slavenator that

he just... It seems like he undersold it. Yeah,

he kind of did. Just because he wanted people

to show up to his birthday party. And the whole

joke of... My parents didn't show up to my actual

birth. How the hell is that even possible? Exactly.

Well, the funny thing is I think this is the

first like sad backstory Yeah, this is the I

think he's done we we've covered back one or

two back stories already like we covered the

one in in London on beach party where he's talking

about You know, when his father made it to Guano.

You're right, I'm wrong. That's the first backstory.

It's not the first backstory, but this is probably

the first really sad backstory. There have been

pathetic ones. Yeah, this is really sad. Old

parents failed to show up for my birth. This

isn't even a pathetic one. This is just completely

sad. Actually, you know where I want to go now?

Gunther goat cheeses. Oh god. I won a birthday

party at Gunther Goat Cheese's. And it was the

goat cheesiest. The goat cheesiest. And the waiter's

like, okay kid, ew. Awkward. Sorry. Lock up when

you're done. That's right. Oh, that was funny.

It was so funny. Gunther Goat Cheese's. The craziest

Chuck E. Cheese joke I think I've ever heard.

The funny thing is though, the end of the Gunther

goat cheese lineup was two dancing cockroaches.

Yeah. They show up later. Yup. I was like, what?

Anyway. Yeah, no, it's just simply hilarious.

So. This is the this is one of the episodes this

is the one one of the doofenshmirtz plots that

I just How is he okay? I I know he said that

he's gonna take over the tri -state area by enslaving

everyone to do whatever he wants But he's really

only doing it not to take over the tri -state

area He's doing it to have people show up for

his birthday party Like, how is that going to

help? Like, I get the actual innator. Like you

said, he's pretty much underselling this thing.

You know, because if he used it more, more properly,

he could have taken over the dry state area.

Exactly. You know, it was funny though, is he

didn't even need an innator. If he had just like

rented out the stadium for the day and said,

free cake for anyone who comes to my birthday

party. You know, standing room only at that point.

And he had this huge vat of whatever that nasty

cake is. It's Dunkleberry cake is what it's called.

The Dunkleberry? Yeah, the Dunkleberry. That

sounds a bit like Dingleberry to me. Yeah, I

think that's where the joke is gonna go in. It's

not a joke, that's gross. And then they even

have Dunkleberry bats. The best line out of this

entire episode was from Doofenshmirtz. You should

never carry a Dunkleberry cake at night, lest

the Dunkleberry bats swarm. That's how they get

him. Oh, it's terrible. All right, the yes, yes,

we do moments. OK, the slide waxing guy has jury

duty on the weekend. I don't think the court's

so hilarious for the fact that they need a slide

waxing guy and for the fact that he's supposedly

at jury duty on a weekend. This is the first

time for us, in the order that we're watching

them on Netflix, that Carl is mentioned. He's

just mentioned. He's mentioned. That's right.

First mention of Carl. Not the first appearance.

No, the first mention of Carl. Carl, like, lightbulbs?

Yeah, lightbulbs, sir. Still on the screen. It's

still here on the screen. Six, six thousand light

bulbs, good lord. Never really explained what...

Oh, that's what those are for, because it was

a light board. Yeah, okay. I'll buy that, sure

why not. So we first meet Beljeet here. First

appearance of Beljeet. Could they name him here?

Yeah, I believe so. Because later on they actually

say his name and I wasn't sure if they named

him here or if he was if he was just, you know,

Buford's punching bag. No, see, I thought I thought

Phineas said his name because he asks Phineas,

you know, why are you not studying? And I thought

Phineas said something about, oh, but Baljeet,

it's summertime. I believe they do say his name.

I'm sure they do because I can introduce a character

and I say his name which is This is so with the

appearance of Beljeet. This is the the start

of the bully bromance between him and Buford

I was gonna say actually they introduced Buford

didn't say his name His first appearance it was

until later, and it wasn't until this episode

that they really Inferred that he inferred but

like basically said he's the bully character

You know? I would like to think that we would

have all realized that he was the bully character

right off the bat, I mean... Well, if you didn't

know, then this pretty much cements it. It's

like, yeah, he's kind of a jerk, you know? In

a funny way. Yeah, Buford's not like most bullies.

He's a little bit different, so... Uh, let me

see here. It's a little bit different. Yeah.

Uh, I liked, um, uh, Lindana and her, uh, Lindana,

uh, the, you know, the mom, the mom and her,

her transition to freeform jazz. Yeah. I'm Lindana

and I just want to have jazz. I'm sure scat man

would like that Too soon man too soon. Oh Come

on now. He's he's yeah He's been dead 30 years.

Are you talking about? Come on too soon, man?

London is solo ding I thought that was hilarious

my solo a little triangle solo Who really plays

the triangle? I mean, come on. Triangulist. Triangularist.

Oh, OK. So raging bully or raging bull. Yeah.

Yeah. Raging bully, you know, is his is his first

appearance. But he did have a camp. I think we

mentioned this in episode four. He did have a

cameo in Swenter. He did. Yeah. So so we have

seen him before. He showed up, but he didn't

have like a personality. Right yeah, but this

is like like like I was saying this is where

raging bully is where? They do say his name they

do introduce him because they're introducing

his whole character thing of Him in school, and

that's all he wants to do is school. He doesn't

want to do anything else He doesn't care about

the song really until Phineas and Ferb You know

get their influence on him later as far as that

goes yeah We had obviously the rocky like montage

That was awesome The Rocky montage at the mall,

you know, my favorite part was wedgies the gym

for bullies It's called wedgies and I have had

a wedgie tummy you can practice doing wedgies

on I love Candice when she's running by and there,

you know, she's seeing them saying the thing

and that she sees the poster and she's like bra

at the mall. What the? I just love that. You

sound like she's been around parsnips. Oh, thumb

wrestling. Those were the days as a kid. Oh,

man, we used to thumb wrestle all the time, my

friends and I. Oh, really? We really. yeah we

really couldn't wrestle actually just yeah you

have a little bit of an advantage i mean you

gotta have like these huge you know like like

gorilla mitts or something like buford yeah it's

huge you smash other thumbs in the submission

i like uh did i mention i like the opera It's

like this opera song that's playing is Buford's

thumb, Pummel's. If Pummel's Phineas is thumbed

in the submission. It's funny. Boston Belt Sanders.

Yeah, those are very dreadful. Boston Belt Sanders?

He says, oh no, he's going for the dreaded Boston

Belt Sander. When he's coming down, so... I missed

it. I didn't write it down, sorry. Didn't happen.

Apparently nobody messed with Ferb. What? He

got in my face. He got in my face. He was all

up in my face, yeah. The Vulcan neck pinch. What?

He was all up in my face. Ferb is definitely

the silent Spock of the series. That's right.

What else did you like about this one? The Aren't

you a little old to be heavyweight champion?

Vander Holyfield says yes. Yes, I am I Like I

like the the inclusion of a clean up this mess

button on the internet That's how that's how

the The a story the a story the B story intertwined

us right cuz this huge billboard lands and says

clean up this mess And everybody goes. Oh, yeah,

let's clean up the mess and everything disappears

And to finish parts It gets flushed the cake

and the bats come and carry them away. Oh It's

funny who knew bats love cake Who knew dingleberry

bats liked dingleberry cake? Yeah, it's dungleberry

not dingleberry Dingle my berries the party happened

to I love that take the party hat of doom I think

my favorite part was Perry using the party favors

as basically boxing gloves. Yeah Yeah No, I was

now I want to say this might be the best episode

yet. Oh Easily, I mean, yeah, you've got again

new characters. You've got special guests. You've

got non -stop action Perfect, you know fishtailing

of the a story and the B story and both were

really strong Just really liked this like this

one a lot yeah absolutely the only thing i wrote

down was like you said was for no no we don't

moments was basically that doofenshmirtz didn't

really realize the full potential of the slavenator

well yeah yeah not like we need to go back to

1865 or anything like that but i mean you know

what i mean see so you're gonna go there aren't

you yeah I'm so glad they didn't go. No, I'm

just saying, because normally when you hear that

term slave, that's what everyone thinks about,

right, was Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves.

So I'm saying that it's not like they're going

back to 1865 and having people pick. He's using

it in a more comical way of basically turning

them into his own little puppets and zombies

and stuff. You know, he could have called it,

you know, the suggestioninator or something.

I mean, necessarily. You know, I have to go that

route. Yeah, that's true. Oh boy, raging bully.

I mean, other than him not using it for its full

potential, he did not... didn't really do that

that well so what would you rate this one zero

to five on a hat you know this was a solid five

yeah this one might this so my tip the five five

plus five and a half you know I like this one

this was just not stop fun absolutely all right

we're gonna move on to lights Candice action

after this special guest are actually tisdale

To think, to dream. Whether tis nobler to love,

I know not. Ah, the Prince of Sensibilities,

my favorite play! What is going on out there?

Would you keep it down out here? You guys ruin

everything! I am trying to practice the art of

acting, and I will not be - by your little movies

not so little anymore last week our website got

a hundred and seventy six million hits oh sorry

I'm late they're filming down the street filming

what what are they filming a movie version of

the play the princess sensibilities I would be

perfect for that part I've been practicing it

for my drama club all summer That's serendipitous.

Alright, up next, it's Light's Candice action,

but before that, I also give Raging Bully a five.

Like we said, that is probably so far the best

episode of the series. It goes without saying.

And I forgot. You didn't have to follow up, we

just assumed. Well, yeah, plus, you know, I got

distracted with somebody on Skype saying, hey,

yeah, you know, so anyway. Lights Candice action

Phineas and Ferb direct a film adaptation of

Candice's favorite play But they transformed

this beautiful play into a full -out monster

movie Meanwhile Perry the platypus tries to find

out why dr. Newfound Schmertz is being so quiet

As I said this episode guest stars a quote -unquote

live -action Candice who is played by her voice

actress Ashley Tisdale She didn't really she's

there, but she's not really there. Well, it's

like You remember remember earlier we were saying

that They put a photograph in and animate around

it and it's like I don't remember that happening

before and yet there it is early on in the series

and Here we have a photograph with kind of animation

around it They don't so much animate the photograph

they kind of they kind of open the mouth a little

bit like South Park. Yeah Robot chicken Real

much again get the mouth that you know it's kind

of yeah something like that It's funny though,

you know because it was her picture I I saw the

picture and I'm thinking Who is that? She's kind

of pretty After the fact, you know You didn't

know because you hate you loathe the sweet life

of Zack and Cody and that's where I originally

first saw that's right Ashley Tisdale. She played

Maddie Fitzpatrick on the sweet life of Zack

and Cody and you don't like that Yeah, not my

favorite show Yeah, and I don't know how many

of the high school musicals you've seen either,

because she's also broke out in those for Disney

as well. You know, I haven't seen any of them.

I've just seen the advertisements. Yeah, I know

they had a 10 year anniversary because they had

commercials for it, but I didn't watch it actually.

No, no. This one, it's quite interesting because

they basically take the Princess Bride in a monster

movie and mash it up. Was it the princess bribe

it was called the princess sensibilities Okay,

so they took sense and sensibility a monster.

I don't know. I just I don't know Sense and sensibilities

and zombies. Yeah. Yeah. I kind of want to see

that I don't think anyone's gonna go with me

to see that Anyway, yes, yes. Yes. We I said

Candice wants to be an actress Yes, that's the

whole premise here. She wants to be a star It's

a continuing trend from flop stars doesn't matter

what she's doing. She wants to be a star Be a

star Candice be a star Even if she has to work

with the hottest new directors in town It's just

terrible, you know, I've put some stuff on on

YouTube before That's got a lot of hits, but

that doesn't make me the hottest younger the

hottest middle -aged director in town. I Don't

think it works that way Who knows All right.

So for the yes. Yes, we do moments Isabella kicks

ass is the agent. That was awesome. That was

that was funny Re writes always happen. Just

look at revenge of the fallen TMNT What other

things have been stuck in rewritten? Hell? Yeah,

so rewrites always show that just get to ten

million dollars worth of new comedy scenes With

that really awful Joker that looks like Macaulay

Culkin with green hair Suicide so that's the

one yeah rewrites Yeah, haha Perry actually play

actually pays dr. Doofenshmirtz. That's fun.

That was No, really good money. I Love that.

He's like that was oak. Let's say no particle

for Fork it over That was funny, you know, honestly

the the B story here was kind of weak It really

is. Kind of weak. He's like, get over there and

find out what he's not doing. Or make him stop.

Go over there and see what he's not doing and

make him stop. See, Major Monogram did this thing,

and he'll do this later. I forget which episode

it is, but in our... the way we're watching them

through netflix it's it's obviously later because

it hasn't happened yet but he says that line

he's like get over there and put a stop to it

or whatever in a later episode he says get over

there and put a start to it and i'm like okay

put a start to it makes more sense put a stop

to it if he's not doing anything how are you

gonna stop it that is funny go over there and

put a start to it it's like somebody call starship

and have him play nothing's gonna stop him now

or something or other Call Speck your general

and have him you know, nothing's gonna stand

in his way or something something. There you

go. This needs a montage 58 and a half years

to age cheese. Oh my god That is some stinky

cheese Very stinky cheese there Some of these

strangest props ever. I mean, obviously it's

Phineas and Ferb They're not gonna use like real

props, but just hilarious and the snakes aren't

real Yeah Spiders it's like oh, no, there's a

spider. Oh, no, my hair is spiders. Oh, no, everything

is spiders spiders everywhere Drop the kitchen

sink on her All right, Perry the Platypus. Well,

it's already 430. Good night. That's right. It's

430. I think I'm going to bed. Here's you, Perry

the Platypus, as he walks off to bed. The funny

thing is, you know, he gets hit with the age

accelerator inator and he turns old. He's like,

look at you. You've let yourself go. And then

he, he like rips off his shirt like Jack Lillane,

you know. That was funny. This is the second

time he's done that, except this time he couldn't

put it back on because he ripped it off sideways.

Remember in the other episode when he was like,

oh, it's going to be beachfront property and

he rips the whole thing off? And then he puts

it back on. He does it here, but obviously here

he couldn't put it back on. What else did you

like about this one? You know, this was a weak

follow -up to Raging Bully, to be honest. They

If they had put this one first, I would have

been like, you know, that was alright And then

raging bully would have been like, you know,

it'd be like that internet ma 'am with all the

guys sitting on the couch going And then the

next scene is I'm going You know that that would

have been this but instead I got the first So

this was kind of like, yeah, you know, I'm on

the couch going But yeah, you know Mean I like

this one because they basically do a commentary

on YouTube Essentially is what the what the whole

internet thing is, you know, it's a comment on

how people get famous on YouTube What else you're

gonna say No I was gonna say something but then

I want to digress and say yeah, you're right

Yeah, I get it the only no no, we don't moment

that I noticed wasn't even really anything I

disliked, but I just noticed an animation error.

After Doof tests the innator, when he walks,

after he tests it on the fat guy on the seesaw,

and he turns into a big, giant fat baby, or fat

old person or whatever else, when he walks back

to the cheese, When he walks back to the cheese,

the colors on the dial of the inator on the right

side of it are switched. Instead of green, yellow,

red, they're red, yellow, green. So they're saying

it's in the danger thing already before he even

turns the dial. Did you read that in the wiki

or something? No, I did not. That's actually

what I wrote. I'll take a screen cap of it and

I'll show you. What do you like as a wiki reader?

The only thing I read from the wiki is I read

the little plus synopsis is because it's just

easier that way This is time. I'm just saying

so, you know, oh, you know the funny the part

that made me giggle Was when he comes back if

the cheese is gone This vaguely cheese shaped

peri and he's like bleeding from the eyes There's

milk coming out of his eyes because he's a giant

wheel of cheese in his stomach. Oh, it was awful.

And he's like, you hate my cheese? You should

have taken his hat off and have been like, this

is a platypus, I hate my cheese. And he puts

his hat back on. Perry, the platypus, I hate

my cheese. It was too funny. I created this for

cheese lovers everywhere. Now you force me to

wield it in anger. What would you rate Light's

Candice action? Oh, we're going one through five,

right? Yeah, well, you can go zero through five,

but yeah. Oh, well, no. Two and a half. Two and

a half. I'm going to three and a half. It's on

par. It's average. It's not as epic as Raging

Bully was, but it's still an enjoyable episode.

Yeah, like I said, it's half as enjoyable as

Raging Bully. It didn't win me over. Right. all

right folks we're gonna take a quick break come

back with final words and all that good stuff

after this well that was an interesting experiment

excuse me but why are you not studying it's summer

vacation you know no school when teachers aren't

around and all you have to worry about are bullies

hey view bird that seat's kind of taken this

table's taken sit somewhere else what about baljit

podcast organization without a cool acronym so

we're about what actually is it how many episodes

are we I can't even count we're about six or

eight. That's right. Is it that six? Something

like that. Yeah, I just did five and six. I think

yeah math at almost 11 o 'clock at night. It's

not my strong suit Obviously What are you thinking

so far the first season as it's progressing?

Well, I like this so much. I went back and watched

it again. So I liked it so much you watched it

twice. It was so nice I watched it twice. I'm

digging it. I'm loving how the character progression

character deductions are being done slowly it's

not overpowering and how they work in any and

all the characters into each episode like now

that they've added Buford and Baljeet how they're

able to work in with and work alongside like

Isabella and the fireside girls along with Candice

and Stacey and So far Candice only has Stacey

as a best friend, but we know that obviously

the other friend Jenny will come in later And

all that so I'm just really digging the way that

the show is progressing Thank you for joining
