About this Episode

TFG1Mike and TV’s Mr. Neil leave the Mushroom Kingdom behind to begin coverage of The Legend of Zelda animated series. The duo discusses the first three episodes—"The Ringer," "Cold Spells," and "The White Knight"—comparing the cartoon's portrayal of Link, Zelda, and Ganon to their source material. They analyze the animation quality, plot structures, and overall character consistency while sharing their own nostalgia for the original NES game.

This is the Triforce of Wisdom, Link. The evil

wizard Ganon has the Triforce of Power. Whoever

gets both Triforces will rule this land forever!

You must help me, Link! Hey, for you Zelda, anything!

Hello and welcome to the latest episode of pixels

in the animation I am one of your host TF2 on

Mike and joining me in this epic journey through

Hyrule is TV's mr. Neil I can't wait to bomb

some dodongoes. Oh my god Is that really one

of the villains names? That's that's the second

villain from the first game the the big Triceratops

looking thing that eats the bombs. Oh my god

okay so we have officially for now left the mushroom

kingdom we are now on the road to Hyrule episode

16 through 20 is our coverage of the Legend of

Zelda cartoon and we can't accurately do this

cartoon justice without talking about the game

franchise that that it that the cartoon came

out of I remember because I sadly And I know

this is going to sound strange, but sadly, I

was one of the kids that was stuck with a dumbass

Sega Master System. Shut up. I don't care what

anyone says, that is one of the worst game systems

ever. The only two games I could ever play on

it was Bo Jackson's Baseball and Alex Kidd in

whatever the second Alex Kidd in the Lost Stars

or I don't even know what the hell it was. Alex

Kidd is like the idiest version of Mario ever.

The Lost Stars is horrible. That's the one where

every time he got hit, he'd scream like a girl.

Yep. Yep, yep, yep. So I would always go over

to my friend's house or my cousin's house and

they had, you know, their parents were the, I'm

not saying my parents were not smart, but their

parents were the smart people and got them Nintendos.

And I remember, you know, getting that golden

legend of zelda cartridge in my hands just even

before i put it in the stupid machine it was

like ah it's gold even though i know it wasn't

real gold but it was just something so cool um

i don't remember a lot of the first game other

than just using going the overworld and doing

the overworld battles because zelda one was so

confusing at least for me it was oh it was totally

confusing because you weren't really told what

to do basically you you wandered around and eventually

you found the first dungeon it's not that hard

you basically go left and up and you find it

but yeah uh to find the later dungeons you pretty

much have to bomb or burn and everything in sight

to find the hidden passages it what level it

might have been like level six or seven it's

like one of the ones you have to burn a bush

and oh god yeah um and i do now what and again

it's been a very long time since i played the

original zelda so excuse my old manitis and bad

memory was zelda one just overworld battles it

wasn't like no there were underworld there were

dungeons no no i mean like just like topographical

battles like it was just the top of the map and

link is on the map and in that there was no three

d characters uh... it's it's not like elit uh...

only uh... missing link it's not like the sequel

where he's actually in a megaman kind of thing

where he's going left to right scroll east is

not a scroller like that it's more of a role

-playing he can't wait to say that but Don't

remember there being active. I don't know No,

it was If you if you played like this, it's it's

most like the Super Nintendo one except a Lot

more confusing Because there was no castle anywhere.

There were no towns There was a there was a graveyard

oddly enough. The only sign of life anywhere

is where you bury people And yeah, it was just

like a bunch of rocks and forests. It's the most

barren Hyrule you'll ever find in any of the

games. In fact, if you play Zelda 2, which God

help you if you do, that part of Hyrule is actually

on that map as well. And it's basically where

you play the entire part of... where you play

the entire first game is just it's basically

just death mountain and then as in zelda 2 you

see where all the towns are and where i actually

i don't remember if there was a castle in that

one either there was uh there was a temple where

the sleeping prince of zelda was staying and

oh see there here's here's where it gets really

confusing because the the sleeping zelda in zelda

2 is not the zelda from zelda 1 Like supposedly

it's like the first Zelda from like many many

Years ago, and I'm pretty sure this is only in

the US Version of the of the instruction book,

but I'm pretty sure they just made it up like

like they often did with like later games because

when it in What was it a link to the past on

the back of the box says this takes place a hundred

years in the past I was I was never in the Japanese

so a lot of the timeline shit that you hear is

totally ad hoc including that book they released

a couple years ago don't don't pay any attention

to that there is no timeline but um yeah moving

god i don't want to talk about zelda 2 although

there's a little bit of zelda 2 in this cartoon

yeah very scant bits of yeah and there's really

not not any way they could insert zelda 2 into

this cartoon because the plot is totally different

in Zelda 2, Ganon is dead and his followers are

looking for Link to basically kill him and use

his blood to reincarnate Ganon. So it's pretty,

it's one of the darker Zelda games. Apparently

so. Now, A Link to the Past, that's my game.

I love that game. Yeah, as far as I'm concerned,

this is like, this is the franchise reboot. The

first two don't count. I love the first game,

but this one is where it really kind of started

to look like the Zelda we know today. First of

all, it's on the Super Nintendo, so it's much

more colorful. You have rain effects. Yeah, the

first part of the game is actually you're running

through the rain to the castle. You don't even

have the sword yet. That's kind of neat. It's

not just some old man in a cave that gives you

the sword, you have to actually get the sword

from your uncle. I can't believe there was a

two disc soundtrack for this game. People love

the soundtrack. Well yeah, it's great music and

that's another thing and we'll get to this when

we get to the series but that's another thing

about specifically A Link to the Past, the sound

effects are so damn cool. Let's see, a comic

book adaptation linked to the past. As far as

other Zelda incarnations, I think this is pretty

much... The TV series is pretty much the first

game, and that's, like you said, little incarnations

of... like very rare stuff from Link 2. What

the hell is the name of that stupid game? I keep

calling it The Missing Link, but it's The Adventure

of Link. Yeah, Zelda 2 The Adventure of Link.

The only Zelda game that has a numbered title.

Yeah. But the series overall, for people that

don't know, is basically... The Adventures of

Lincoln Zelda and it's not weekly It's not because

it was weekly it was on every Friday, and I remember

and I I still to this day I still felt Really

really jipped about the whole Friday to Monday

thing because I remember as a kid. I was like

oh We guys are Friday. It's Zelda Monday morning

or Monday afternoon Where's another's I gotta

wait four days screw this Cause I was like, Oh,

this is something cool. And then they ripped

it right out from under us. Um, but it's basically

your average, you know, swashbuckling and venture

stories. You know, he has to link has to save

Zelda and something that I really love about

the cartoon is that Zelda isn't just your standard

damsel in distress. She actually is very action

oriented herself. Yeah. And she's, as Sprite

says, she's a bit of a snot. She's kind of dismissive

of Link and gives him a hard time and laughs

at him occasionally. She is, but still... And

it seems like this cartoon kind of foreshadowed

things that happened later in the games. This

is kind of where we first saw Zelda as the bow

master. in Twilight Princess and the Wind Waker.

There's a battle at the end where she has a bow

and she's shooting a Ganon while you're attacking

him. It's like the Deek crew saw into the future

and said, okay, although it's probably the other

way around. Someone like Miyamoto probably saw

the cartoon and thought it was a good idea or

something. That kind of gives me the chills a

little. That they extrapolated anything from

this cartoon See that and that's where we're

probably gonna differ because watching this God

it's so much better than super show. I know it

is It's so, like, yes, there are little things,

but I'm just gonna tell the listeners, and I'm

gonna tell you right now, most likely, at least

the first six episodes, I have way more positive

things to say than I do negative. Because I just,

I enjoyed it so much. It, unlike Super Show,

which didn't live up to my childhood memories

of being good, this actually does. And I'm sure

you'll point out what's wrong with it and everything

else, and that's all well and fine. No, I saw

one of the voice actresses on here for the the

voice for The Triforce of Wisdom Elizabeth Hannah

and I thought she was married to William Hanna

of Hannah Marbera fame. Oh my god She's Canadian,

though, so there's that. But no, the stories,

as I said, there's not a lot to talk about the

stories until we actually get to them and actually

get to our thoughts on them, but the basic stories

each Friday, you had an adventure of having to

save the kingdom or having to save the princess

or having to save the king or having to stop

Sprite from sneezing horrible Merlin Archimedes

magic, which I will get to later. But the voice

cast includes Cindy Preston as Zelda, Jonathan

Potts as Link, Len Carlson may ye rest in peace

as Ganon and the Moblins, Colin Fox as King Harkinian,

that's an unfortunate name. Alan Stewart Coates

as the Triforce of Power, as I said Elizabeth

Hanna as the Triforce of Wisdom. Tabitha St.

Germain as Pauline, she was credited as Paulina

Gilles as Sprite and Sing. I'm really surprised

that Frank Walker is not on here for additional

voices at all. I mean, Frank does everything.

Tom Edwards was the opening and closing announcer.

Hmm, interesting. uh... so yeah let's uh... any

any other thoughts on the the games that it's

based on our also all general thoughts on the

series before we get into it probably have like

many tenders during the actual episodes so probably

nothing at the moment be prepared listeners prepare

for the eight night not being of this talk about

get into the first episode after this. Okay,

so there's one good reason. Looking good, Princess.

Especially from this angle. I told you. You should

have put on a robe. Oops. Guess I offended her

royal prissiness. First up we have the very first

episode of Legend of Zelda was entitled The Ringer.

Link laments his duty of guarding the Triforce

of Wisdom as a tiresome and boring with only

positive being able to keep company with Princess

Zelda who is not likewise impressed with Link's

personality. Ganon formulates a plan to distract

the Princess and Link during an open wizards

competition in the castle and steal the Triforce

of Wisdom. After realizing the ruse, the two

put aside their differences and pursue Ganon.

This is the only episode in which the Triforce

of Power speaks. Notice that it says The plot

for this it sets link up it sets Zelda up it

sets Ganon up Overall, I really enjoyed this

story It's clearly the pilot Yeah, because at

the beginning he basically laments about he used

to be a hero and now he's living in a castle

and he kind of runs through You know his You

know basically his misgivings about being cooped

up in this tower watching the triforce and then

thinks of the one thing that he's really there

for which is Zelda and Kind of kind of odd that

his that his room is positioned to where it is

because he gets a nice Bird's -eye view and this

isn't the only episode that that happens in oh

No, hell the king practically pushes him towards

it Oh man any thoughts on the plot for this one

as far as the story structure any of that kind

of stuff Kind of basic but not not bad. It's

not it's not like one of the Mario episodes.

This is Yeah, I mean it you know, like I said

it gives you a beginning shows you the point

of view of link Zelda and Ganon it even shows

you That wizard's competition it That's probably

the bad part about the episode, even though it

has something that comes back to help them with

the old man grow magic. Unfortunately the guy

with the dirty sock spell didn't help. No, but

the dirty laundry smell will come in later. Oh

yes, yes it will. Alright, so for this series,

this is something I didn't mention in the intro,

For Mario we used what we use fire flowers and

Koopa troopers or goombas for this series the

good points stuff we liked is gonna be Triforce

of wisdom and Can you guess what the bad points

are gonna be first guessing the triforce of power?

That's right. Now. I have to ask you this before

we get into the good and bad points. Is it just

me or? weren't there three Triforces there were

but the third one doesn't wasn't introduced until

the second game and even after that They see

they completely changed what the triforce was

in the later games like here It's just like a

physical object that you have to go find Whereas

in the later games the triforce is actually linked

Zelda and Ganon like each one of them possesses

like They're like a trifecta each one one of

them has a certain power like Ganon is power

Zelda is wisdom and link is courage courage and

that's how it is in the later games in in the

first game It's just like this triangle thing

that you have to go find Yeah, the mythos was

not really ironed out at this. That's why I say

link to the past was really the reboot Yeah,

a link to the past is still the best one. I haven't

played any of the modern ones, but as far as

yeah that goes Alright, we're gonna get it We're

gonna go steal the triforce of wisdom after this

Guys, it's been a blast, but you're going home!

And tell Ganon that if he really wants this Triforce,

he'll have to get it himself! Alright folks,

so we are going to be listening to the Triforce

of Wisdom here, and for me... First things first,

I already know this series will be one thousand

million trillion, jillion, bazillion times better

than Super Mario Bros. Super Show because the

first app has Bob Forward as the writer. I saw

his name quite a bit, actually. Yeah, he's one

of, I think, two or three of the driving force

of main staff writers on this. Looks like he

collaborated with his wife on an episode, too.

Yep, you know You know the first few minutes

of the cartoon so far nothing but awesomeness

for me I mean come on link ogles the princess

battles moblins and then get smacked in the face.

It's just And then he lies about he's like there

were 20 of them. Yeah, that's the ticket. Yeah

So far the cartoon has everything a wacky I didn't

want to say wacky but lovable but wacky hero

beautiful princess and a villain of mystery And

of course, the music is amazing and the game

effects are a nice touch. I thought that was

that is one of the greatest things about the

Nintendo cartoons is the fact that they incorporated

the game effects for almost everything. Len Carlson

is the voice of Ganon is amazing. Yeah, another

cartoon people might remember him from his cops

because he was big boss and cops. Yeah, see?

Yeah, he was awesome in this cartoon. This is

like. one of the best villain voices ever because

he can be really high and then he goes down really

low and he sounds really awesome. I can't do

his voice but he was really awesome as Ganon.

Yeah from beginning to end we see what each character

is like the plot of the episode is interesting

and even if Zelda and Company are dumbfounded

that it was Even though they are dumbfounded

that it was Ganon at least they they were able

to you know come back from it I mean, it's not

like oh Mario. We're gonna throw you into a pasta

plot hole right now Thank God No, okay, there

is some eating in this cartoon series, but there's

not a lot. I mean, they're more so apt to use

lemons for weapons than they are to eat them.

What did you like about the first episode? Well,

I can't really say much about the plot just because

it was a very basic general establishment of

what the Zelda cartoon was going to be, but I'll

go for general here. I like the voice of Ganon.

I like the design on Zelda that this is probably

one of my favorite Zelda designs just because

she's wearing like the tight pants and the knee

high or no, they're thigh high boots. And yeah,

I like that. I like that. I do kind of like this

version of Link. It's not really the link that

you're really familiar with because everywhere

else he's silent and mobile, but here he's really

sassy and kind of a jerk. I like jerky heroes

and Oh, yes, Sprite. This is the first time Link

hangs out with a fairy, which he would do in

later games, of course. But this fairy is much

more tolerable than Navi. And she looks like

Sandy Duncan. That was one of my notes. I'm like,

she looks like Sandy Duncan. Yeah. I'll have

more to say about Sprite, I think, in a later

review. She does look like Sandy Duncan, too

bad she doesn't sound like her. She doesn't have

the eye. She's not blind in one eye. That was

a dark joke that I was going for and it blocked.

Wow. Oh my god. But yeah, overall the first episode,

pretty interesting, really, really great episode.

Let's go find the Triforce of Power and wrestle

it away from Ganon after this. Oh, yeah, I almost

forgot after saving the Triforce from evil the

hero gets his reward Don't you ever whistle at

me again, I may never whistle again period don't

you ever clean in here Excuse me Princess if

I'd known you were coming I'd have asked the

Moblins to sweep up before I sapped them there

were Moblins in here When? About 10 seconds ago.

About, uh, 15 of them. Armed to the teeth. Naturally,

I fought them off, risking my life to save the

Triforce and your kingdom. But I don't expect

any reward. No, sir. Just a smack in the face

is enough for me. Oh, Link, I'm sorry. But you

made me mad. No kidding. Anyway, this is the

third attack by Ganon this month. We'll have

to be on our guard. And the Triforce of Power

is heavy, even if the thing doesn't talk. I only

have two notes that I didn't like about this

one. Really general one. I really do hate Sprite.

I hate her voice. I hate her personality. I hate

everything about her. And in the beginning, and

I was going to screen cap this to put it in the

post, but I don't want to. I want to keep this

section of the podcast, because it's only five

episodes. I want to keep it fairly simple and

basic. But my other note was, G -Link, why are

you wearing a nightgown? I swear if you look

at him when he first gets up, I know it's a long

shirt, but it looks like a long shirt a hot woman

would wear in some basketball player's bedroom

or something. It doesn't look right. You said

this isn't the link you're normally used to?

Exactly right. Yeah, that shirt is just short

enough that if you were to bend over, you would

get... of you you'd never want to see exactly

exactly and it doesn't look like well they wouldn't

have tidy whitey's back then so he's not wearing

anything under that i know that's kind of bad

uh what didn't you like about this one anything

um just general animation glitches like there's

there's the one scene where where uh ganon tries

to show one of the staff house out of fight he

does some boxing moves i'm like oh my god who

who who staged that like this yeah but it's supposed

to be done like oh okay i can see your quibble

with the animation technique of it but it's supposed

to be that way because he's he's i always thought

it was supposed to be a comedy bit it is a comedy

but it's just kind of like weirdly yeah I think

the problem with it is it goes on too long. Like

if he had just done like punch, punch, kick,

punch like twice instead of like four or five

times or whatever else it would have been fine.

Yeah he's punching at the air for like a good

five seconds. Yeah that and he's using the Triforce

as brass knuckles. I will say about the animation

the one thing that I noticed is on some of the

faraway shots of the castle it looks like a five

-year -old Did it in Play -Doh? There was a shot

where the castle like a faraway shot of the catlet

like a wide -angle shot of the castle and it

looked like Had absolutely zero definition definition

Jesus Christ definition at all. It looked so

weird. And sometimes I've noticed that with it

when Link is riding away from it, or if you look

at it in the opening title sequence, when he's

riding out of it, it loses its definition the

further away the camera pans. And I don't necessarily

like that, because usually when you're in the

castle and seeing the walls and stuff, like in

the episode we'll get to next, when Link has

to clean up, You see all the definition that

the castle has. I don't know, it's just kind

of weird for me to see animation go back and

forth like that. It kind of looks like he's riding

away from a cardboard cutoff, basically. Yeah!

And what's even worse than that is the establishing

shot of Death Mountain. For years I didn't even

know that Death Mountain was in this cartoon,

and it's kind of this... It's kind of this weird

volcano looking thing. That's also on I don't

know. It looks really strange. You see it in

the opening title sequence. Oh, yeah. Yeah Like

oh, that's ooh, that's not a very good dry No,

you see it a few times during the show. Yeah.

Yeah All right. We're gonna move on to the next

episode Well, it's the first day of spring. Do

you know what that means? Sure do it means love

is blooming Oh, how sweet. And are you feeling

strong and brave and noble? You bet. Good, because

it's time for spring cleaning. This castle needs

to be scrubbed from top to bottom, and you're

going to help. Aw, princess. No argument. Start

mopping, my hero. I'll come back later to see

how you're doing. Aw, come on. Ah, cleaning.

Up next is Cold Spells. The first days of spring

mark spring cleaning at Hyrule Castle and Link

fakes a cold to avoid chores. Ganon infiltrates

the castle and... To create a distraction covertly

augments sprites magical powers as She too performs

cleaning chores suddenly unable to control her

magic in a very Fantasia like way Ganon swipes

in and takes the triforce of wisdom and escapes

on a beetle back To the underworld sprite feeling

guilty accompanies Lincoln Zelda as they pursue

Ganon Wait, is it this which one? Oh, it might

be in the later one on Thinking of a later one

for a while there. I thought this was frog link,

but that's later. That's I think that's next

week The only reason why I thought this one was

frog link for a while is because he uses that

same voice His his sick voice is kind of the

same as frog link The plot for this one. This

is really where I my hatred of sprite will shine

through in the triforce of power section This

is where I got my laziness as a child. You know,

using Link as a role model. I'm sick. What? I'm

sick. Yeah, exactly. It sounds like the routine

I would usually play if I wanted to stay home

and play Zelda. Wow, yeah, yeah, I can agree

to that, but yeah, it's like, chores, what are

those? I'm sick, I don't wanna do any chores.

I will say that the plot that Ganon has is kind

of ingenious, where he infects Sprite without

her knowing, and then she's like, oh wait, where

did that come from? Blah, blah, blah. And he

then goes up, swipes the Triforce, and... off

he off he goes the only thing that kind of it

doesn't confuse me, but just kind of really makes

me mad is that Throughout the entire series they

always say oh well if one gets the triforce or

the other gets the truth Whether good or bad

gets the other triforce doesn't matter if it's

red green purple blue Orange, whatever color

you want to call it That they'll be you know

the Gannon will be defeated forever, or if he

gets it he'll be the ruler for forever and does

is that ever like the triforce to me at this

point in the series is kind of like hey optimus

you're dying passing along to magnus passing

along to rodimus and rodimus you can give it

to bumblebee it's oh god the triforces are kind

of like the majors of leadership ladies and gentlemen

they are huge macguffins in this series that

really have absolutely no consequence. Right?

Pretty much. I don't know. I mean, well, in the

games, like, I know the power in A Link to the

Past has, you know, the ultimate power of the

three of them combined. You know, you defeat

Ganon, but like, in any of the other games, is

there an actual, like in the original game, what

is the point of these things? I don't know. It's...

It's I Don't remember exactly why they were trying

to keep the triforce of wisdom away from Ganon

just know that if he had gotten it then he would

have wisdom and power and and that would be bad

because he'd be evil and smart and powerful and

I Guess that was kind of the point But what irritated

me about this in this particular cartoon is that

yeah, like you said at the beginning of every

cartoon. It's like Whoever gets both try forces

will rule this land forever, and he gets them

both He puts them side by side. I'm like well

you won And then they just take it back. I'm

like well if they could just do that then the

prophecy doesn't mean anything exactly It's a

false prophecy and then on top of that well Never

I was gonna complain about the animation glitch,

but I'll save that but all right um let's see

what else What was there was a particular note

i had about this up oh yeah the the moldy one

of the very few villains from zelda two shows

up in this episode and i remember watching this

i'm like there's no moldy in the game what the

hell is this thing and i figured out later it

was from zelda two i know we kinda you know destroyed

ourselves going through all fifty two episodes

of super mario super show but i almost wish this

had gotten a second or third season just to be

able to tie in the link to the past that would

be so cool and I know I do know that later down

the line I think it's around somewhere either

episode 34 35 when we get into video land I do

know there's a potion of power episode so I do

know about the Zelda episode in Captain N so

there is that but I just You know, the whole

time I was watching these three episodes today,

even though we're only at the second episode

now, I was like, there needs to be more of this

show. Alright, so we're gonna go get some wisdom

in a moment. don't try that again buster all

right let's uh approach the triforce of wisdom

here link the liar sprite's extra powerful magic

makes the makes mops come to life where's merlin

when you really need him and that owl archimedes

To and fro oh god, I gotta put that in the episode

now He's a dancing fool Yeah, they really pulled

off the whole sword as a gun shoot at your feet

dancing move right there They really did a number

two on that throne room Because I mean seriously,

I mean his his for his repair bill is gotta be

you know Really hefty on that right What did

you like about this one Well, hmm wasn't exactly

one of my favorite episodes it was let's see

Didn't actually write anything down for this

one. Oh, okay Go ahead, yeah, I don't really

have anything. Okay, all right, well, we're gonna

head over to see what my rantings are for the

Triforce of Power in a moment. Alright, so we

are gonna get some not -so -sage advice from

the Triforce of Power. Ugh, Sprites, she's so

annoying, she and Toad should be married! God.

Oh, God. Like, he's in, like, okay, I know this

is... Okay, in real time, let's say Hyrule was

somewhere, it was a real realm, what century

would you say it's in, since he's got a... like

bathtub in his friggin room like there are no

real bathrooms in this place so i don't know

i i'd say probably like the 15th or 15th century

maybe okay so you know you've got this really

old castle with this really really very almost

tiny bathtub and sprite She's like a little fairy

horse. She comes on to Link so many times. Oh,

can I wash your back? Oh, can I do this? Oh,

can I do that? And he just wants her to leave

him alone. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. And

as far as his cold spells, she is so damn gullible.

Like, seriously? And then later, when she's in

the... When she's entering the cavern and she

sees Link, she screams after she says his name.

Why does she scream? Isn't that going to give

away her position? Hello? I mean, seriously.

Yeah. That makes no damn sense. Oh, and the worst

thing in this episode, and it's still... Overall,

I really like the animation. I love the interactions

with the characters, but still, this still is

what takes... At least one point off for me when

we get to ratings at the end of the show, but

they had the Triforce of Power! Zelda was right

F in there. Yeah. It's a half a second where

she could have grabbed it and Link said, oh no,

we gotta go. This place is coming down. She was

standing right there. She could have grabbed

it. It's not like the Triforce could have grown

arms and said, no, I don't want to go with you.

Yeah, that was actually my biggest note was that.

I think this is another case of them scripting

it and nobody storyboarded it because it's obvious

that like the diet from the dialogue she's supposed

to be like way far away from it like if we go

back we can get it but no they when they animated

it they drew her like what two feet away from

it it was within arms like she could have just

you know grabbed it and links like no time and

pushes her away take the look like an idiot She

had it right there. Yeah, I guess it's a good

thing because we're only two episodes in and

really Seriously, the only the things that really

only get one two three four episodes are really

really bad TV shows I guess if they did win this

week, we wouldn't have had a show next week Any

other bad things for you on this one, um, just

that this is a pretty uneventful Story to happen

in the Zelda universe like the set the pet the

games in the games. It's all about Ganon trying

to attain power. He's he's after the he's after

the the ultimate power trying to connect You

know the light world with the dark world whatever

the hell he's trying to do and in this one. He's

He's taking advantage of the day that they clean

the castle. It's like it's like an off day for

Ganon Yeah You know you You were talking about

sprite this moment ago and how she's like a little

slut Yeah one of the things I forgot to mention

from the first episode was that there's one part

where she's she's hitting on link and links of

something like You're only you're only three

inches tall and she's like you don't like short

girls and right away They put an image in my

mind that I didn't want But Sprite, I don't know,

don't get me wrong. I love Bob Ford as a writer.

I don't think he wrote this episode. I'd have

to go look, because I remember looking at it

at the actual episode on set, but I don't remember.

But the thing about this series is they'll write

something, and then they'll write something completely

opposite. She's being a slut. These first...

you know, five, six episodes, you know, four

or five episodes. And then there's an episode

where we'll get to next week where she's like,

ooh, that thing's dangerous. Get that thing away

from me. God, seriously, are you really that?

All right, so let's move on to the final episode

of the day after this. I've never seen a place

as rich and magic as Hyrule. Everyone seems to

know a little. That's why Ganon wants it so badly.

He'll stop at nothing to capture it, even a piece

at a time. Looks like this village is about to

be one of the pieces. Finally up today we have

the White Knight. No, it's not Harvey Dent. He

went two -faced Okay, so We have I'm trying to

I don't think it's gonna list it on the DVD.

So it actually it might Okay So white night comes

with the as aired live -action segment wild thing

with moon Zappa So on the DVD set you could have

watched this with the the way they did on the

DVD set is so weird They didn't do it like the

original show airings They had the main theme

title of Super Show they then showed you all

oh Instead of breaking the clips up like so Mario

Bros Super Show will be back after this they

had the entire clipped segment and Then it went

into the Zelda cartoon You know what I mean?

Like, instead of doing breaks, they just bulk

-ended it together. Kind of like a feature -length

movie or something or other. But I liked the

Super Show clip. I thought that was hilarious.

I thought that was funny. I don't think that

was one that we, because we weren't covering

Zelda, you know, the last 15 episodes, but that

was one we didn't really see, but it was cool.

For White Knight, after Link and Zelda have a

rather clumsy outing fighting off an ambush of

monsters, a new hero from another kingdom named

Prince Fassad saves the day and captures Zelda's

attention in the process. Ganon knows Fassad's

weakness and seeks to exploit it and Link's detachment

in another bid to seize the Triforce of Wisdom.

Uh, this plot, like this is the first time I

disliked Zelda. First two episodes absolutely

loved everything she did. This episode, she goes

all goo goo gaga over some blonde hair, blue

eyed Nazi poster boy Prince. Yes, I said it.

Went right for Godwin. You know She goes all

goo goo gaga over this guy and then Come to find

out his weakness is his vanity He would rather

save himself from becoming dirty than save a

princess no matter how hot she is It's like oh

god seriously I know you had a slight problem

with cold spells with it being a standard episode

as forever but this episode outside of some of

the you know some of the cool things dealing

with Link I have like I think I have what maybe

five little things about Link and I probably

have seven things about like just don't don't

even know what are your what's your overall thoughts

on the plot it's it's it's a funny promise Yeah,

you know this hot guy shows up, but he's he's

too it's basically vanity smurf He's like too

prissy doesn't want to get dirty. He's too obsessed

with how he looks If only he had vanity Smurfs

voice that would have made it so much better.

He kept looking into a mirror Yeah All right,

let's go get some wisdom Having a discussion

with the Triforce of Wisdom here At first At

first I like this and then she becomes all Gaga

But I do love how Zelda isn't your standard damsel

in distress. Sorry link your princess is right

there Not in the other castles, because they

were all taken up by daisies, toadstools, and

peaches. An Octorok lord. Oh god. Zelbots. Godas.

Dang, Link left. Man, it's like Link and Zelda

are married. And of course later in the episode

link to the rescue and and that vain fool got

his just desserts What did you like about this

one um links links a costume that he wore to

across Zelda This ridiculous looking get up that

I was the boots had spurs Yeah For a second there.

I was thinking that those were a pair of Babs'

boots, but Tiny Toons wasn't out yet. Oh, God.

Yeah, the costume. Like, if they didn't have

the line in there where he asks Sprite, did she

get the clothes that he asked for? I would have

almost thought Sprite did that to make him screw

up, because Sprite is a very jealous ho that

doesn't want him anywhere near Zelda whatsoever

because all of her three inches at once. All

of him to all of herself. I just... I can't stand

Sprite. I wish that magic Ganon infused her with

one pop, she just explodes and boof, she's gone.

Dead fairy. See, you said inches high, I was

about to make a joke and I stopped myself. Again,

imagery that I don't think our listeners need.

Oh, sorry listeners, but it's true. What else

about this one? Were there any... Is there any

cool animation you liked in this one? Nothing

really jumped out at me. You know, I like the

character selection. I like that we got to see

Zora or Zola or whatever the hell that thing's

called. Yeah. Oh, Zora, yeah. The King of the

Fishes. The Merman of the Zelda. It is Merman.

Yeah, that changes over the over the series of

games like it started out as all and I think

it is officially Zora now The Zoras are more

good guys now. Yeah, it was Zora in a link to

the past I know that because it's like oh you

have to go get Zora's flippers, right? All right,

let's go ahead and see if we can find the power

Greetings. You must be the fair Princess Zelda.

I am. And you are? I am Prince Fassad from Arcadia.

I have traveled the world and viewed its wonders,

but none have been your match in beauty. Ah.

Uh, Link, where are your manners? Stand up and

meet Prince Fassad. This is my friend. Well,

uh, an acquaintance. Somebody I know slightly.

His name's Stink. Link pleased to meet you your

highness a pleasure. I'm sure May I offer your

ride back to the castle princess my steed can

carry too. Why thank you. I would be most grateful

Hey, what about me? I'm afraid Magnus can't carry

three. Oh, I'm sure you'll be fine link Yeah,

okay. So let's find some power here Prince facade

really I'm with that kind of name is that seriously

Come on. When I first saw that, I realized, oh,

they're going to use the vanity thing. But at

first, I thought it was an ingenious Ganon plot

of Ganon was going to use him to his own ends.

But that'll happen next week with a fairly hot

but brain -dead chick. You know it's true. And

then the next note is, I really hate Prince Fixodd.

This it's such a weird name for him because it

wasn't like he was being deceptive and that's

what a facade is No, he was just vain Yeah, I

mean they could have called them Prince Vanity

yeah, yeah that too Oh God when I first heard

um when I first heard the the King's voice I'm

like hey look it's the Sultan from the upcoming

Disney film Aladdin It's not exactly, but King

Harkinian, the whole mannerisms of the King of

Hyrule, of Zelda's father, it's very similar

to the Sultan in Aladdin. It really, really is.

In all caps, someone please, please choke the

hell out of Sprite. I don't even know why I wrote

that, but I was really pissed at the time, apparently.

And of course, Zelda, as she does prove, doesn't

seem to be the type to be that damn vain. Like,

the whole time this episode, I... She's not...

I can see Zelda or any of the other Hyrule women,

because at least in A Link to the Past, there

were seven princesses you had to save. You know,

I could see them being all gaga over somebody

for like the first five minutes, but a whole...

How long are these episodes? Eleven minutes?

I don't know, it just... Zelda really turned

me off in this one, because it was just... Totally

out of character for her. At least I thought

it was. What about you? What didn't you like

about this one? It didn't really like Prince

Prince what's -his -name he Yeah, he's just kind

of a he's kind of a stock character. There's

a lot of characters like that where He's like

he's like the the guy from out of town who shows

up we should any He shows up in town and he shows

up the hero but then later you find out he's

got some fatal flaw and and the girl who was

going gaga over him like realizes that she's

been a stuck -up snot and goes back to the real

hero and I kind of like that link I know we're

talking about stuff We don't like but I I kind

of like that link rubbed it in at the end He's

like she doesn't deserve it. I'm gonna save her

anyway, like yeah Yeah Yeah, that was pretty

awesome Alright, well, we're gonna take a quick

break. You're gonna hear some some new ads from

other podcasts around GCR and you'll also hear

some aficionados ad and the scene the superhero

webcomic after this This could be most fortunate.

I've met with Prince Facade before, and I know

his weakness. He's brave enough, but he's vain,

very vain. Proud of his looks, he'd never let

himself get dirty, not even to save a princess.

rise again! Before we close out, of course, with

Zelda as we did with Mario, we'll be ranking

each episode on the 0 to 5... boomerang scale

don't ask me why I picked the boomerang I like

that weapon it's really cool and I never really

liked the bows in the series I don't know it's

just they're too small I know they increase in

size once Link takes them out of his pocket oh

god I yeah let's just move on so For the first

episode the ringer, what do you give it zero

to five boomerangs? I'll give it a three. It

was a pretty good episode Certain episodes later

on or better, so I don't want to I don't want

to set the curve too high I'm gonna give it a

four to five boomerangs and for those are little

listening I am now basing these these these boomerang

ratings on the current GCR and universal star

rating system we have on the website so even

though we're calling them boomerangs here in

the podcast you can go over to geekcastradio

.com look at the GCR and universal rating system

and see what the zero to five mean for me I'm

gonna give it a four to five it's almost perfect

except for the fact that link is in a nightgown

and sprite no just just no um what about cold

spells what are you gonna give that one i'll

give that a one and a half really wow you're

going low that one is kind of not so good for

me i'm gonna give it a a three and a half i you

know even though i still don't care for sprite

and you know i i did take the the The points

off for the whole, oh my god, they had the Triforce

there, like right there. The rest of the episode

was pretty cool. What about the White Knight?

I'll give it a two. It was okay. Yeah, I'm gonna

give it a... One and a half, because it's just,

like... First of all... They completely changed

Zelda's character for the entire episode. She

goes ol' Gaga over this guy that has never happened

before to this point. Yes, I know we're only

three episodes in but her personality to me to

this point just never really like I never like

it's kind of like you know throwing somebody

a curveball when they're expecting a fastball

down the middle it's just not what you expect

and I just didn't I don't care for Prince Valium

And all that and everything else, you know, I

mean it's not like It's not like dot matrix is

gonna come out and say no, no, no, you can't

do that I was hoping you're gonna make us baseball's

reference for its value I was trying to go for

that earlier, but I said valiant for some stupid

reason But yeah, so alright Neil what's going

on over at animation aficionados calm Well, we're

we recorded an episode that should be up Friday

or Saturday about Lou Scheimer is It's kind of

the third in the series that we've done We've

done filmation and I kind of tried to rate it

in kind of halfway through so I'm like, okay

We're talking about the shows again. We should

talk about the man, but you know we were somewhat

respectful we We said what we thought but we

kind of gave him some credit for what he did

and And, you know, there's a lot of nice things

I can say about the animation that he did, just

because it was kind of... Well, you've seen the

Tom and Jerrys, but... For what he did, he certainly

gave jobs to a lot of today's animation superstars,

like... Bruce Tim. Yeah, Bruce Tim for certain

and Paul Dini. That was the guy I was trying

to think of. Yeah, it sounds kind of bad. Oh,

you gave jobs to so many people. He really did

a lot for the animation industry. He kept jobs

here in America for as long as he could until

it crashed his company, unfortunately. Yes. So

yeah, that's what's coming up. all right well

thank you for joining us here on pixels in the

animation there's always get in contact with

us to leave feedback for the show visit the network

at geekcastradio .com leave the show's feedback

in itunes which as of the mario reviews ended

Our long -time fan of the GeekCast radio network,

Toon Master Tim, gave us a review on pixels in

the animation. It's the only one we have so far

here in the US. Bad cartoons still make for entertaining

podcasts. It's a four -star review. Left on September

1st, 2013. As I write this review, the hosts

Mike and Neil are still reviewing the Super Mario

Bros. Super Show. I never was a huge fan of the

Nintendo cartoons. So I rarely ever watched them.

I assumed that they were bad, or at the very

least not geared towards my age group even back

then. Now that I am middle -aged, and that is

even more true, I find that that is even more

true. Sometimes I'll overlook cartoons and revisit

them later to find that they were incredibly,

that they were incredible. Jason the Wheeled

Warriors, Exo Squad, Godzilla the series, etc.

But SMBSS is not one of those cartoons. Maybe

Zelda, Mega Man, or others will fare better.

is all it is so far. Although I highly doubt

it. So while I couldn't stomach watching along,

I still tune in for each podcast episode to hear

how bad the episodes are. And there are many.

The guys follow the Geekcast Radio Network's

excellent discussion format and break down the

episodes, analyze plots, recognize highlights,

and even criticize the most horrible or absurd

moments. of the cartoons. Bad writing abounds

in the cartoon series. The guys are a blast to

listen to, and I find it a way to make discussions

of a show. This little essay itself, an entertaining

podcast that I look forward to every time it

appears in iTunes. So thank you very much, Tim,

for that. You can also follow us on Twitter.

You can follow the network at GeekCastRadio.

Stop talking about these third -party crappy

I haven't really brought up a lot of controllers.

I don't like Call the waste mail line, tell us

what show you're leaving a message for, and your

name. 502 -526 -5821. We hope you enjoyed this

latest episode of Pixels Animation, and we shall

join us next time when we'll be reviewing the

next three episodes of The Legend of Zelda, those

being Kiss and Tell, Sing for the Unicorn, and

That Sinkin' Feelin'. For now, I am TfU and Mike

with... T -B -3 -2 -Neil. Tune in next week and

help us find the pixels in the animation. She

laughed! She laughed at me! She laughed! Please,

Link, calm down. You did look kind of funny.

Uh, in a nice sort of way, I mean. But I mean,

I'm sure Zelda didn't mean... Save your breath,

Sprite. I'm gone. If Zelda wants the Triforce

protected, her prince Precious can do it. I just

quit.
