Super Mario Bros. 3 Episodes 16–18 Review
About this Episode
It is a legend no one will forget. Everyone thought
King Koopa had left the Mushroom Kingdom. And
then, his Doomship attacked. King Koopa was back
with the greatest danger ever known. His Koopa
Kids. Using their new superpowers, the Super
Mario Brothers rescued Princess Toadstool and
beat back the evil Koopa Family. Welcome to the
latest episode of pixels in the animation. I'm
one of your host here to remind your name is
TV's mr. Neal girl. You know, it's true If you
get a blame it on something you might as well
blame it on the rain Today we are returning to
the Mushroom Kingdom as we talk about the next
three episodes in the mention of Super Mario
Brothers 3 Ladies and gentlemen I have made an
executive decision for this episode only we are
just gonna have Three different discussion clips.
I'm not breaking them up I'm not doing so we'll
do super leave moments and and between moments,
but it's gonna be all one discussion piece It's
not gonna be you're not gonna hear. I'm not gonna
say okay Well, let's go get you know the super
leaves, and then you'll hear a clip I'm not doing
these three episodes might be the worst episodes
This entire series. Yeah, and they only get bad.
They only get more They only get worse as they
go along like I'll say it right now cootie pie
rocks is not the worst episode out of the three
today It's just not It's not the best out of
the entire series, but it's not the worst are
the ones we'll talk about today. So Let's get
right to it and get this pain over with. Oh my
god Alright, first up is Kootie Pie Rocks. Koopa
kidnaps Milli Vanilli and forces them to perform
exclusively for Kootie Pie. Ha, joke's on him.
This episode originally featured songs by Milli
Vanilli, but later it releases Replace It with
the Mega Move. Featured songs, Blame It on the
Rain, and girl you know it's true. And I'm pretty
sure that the scandal broke like... within a
very, very close proximity with the original
airing of this episode. The original airing of
this episode was October 27th, 1990. So what
do you think of the overall plot here, if you
can say that there is a plot? There's a plot?
That's a running gag. I don't know. See, there's
two different versions of this episode, and I
was thinking, Well, you know, the edit version
like renders this entire episode nonsensical
and I'm like, wait a minute, slap my face again.
The original version made no sense. So it's basically
Peach goes to a Milli Vanilli concert in the
quote unquote real world. Koopa comes along and
kidnaps them because Cootie Pie wants them to
do a private concert. And it's and then and then
the Mario Brothers show up. To save them and
bring them back for some reason. I don't know
why you would just leave them there Yeah Okay,
so I'm trying to see here about the About this.
Yeah, it was let's see March 1990 issue of Time
magazine place call clearing yourself to be the
new Elvis no Let's see Yeah, it was somewhere
What did I when did I say this aired November?
When the hell is this episode October 27th 90
this says that it really kind of About the lawsuits
and everything else was around November of 90
so it happened throughout that whole year because
it really started it started You know Yeah, it
really really did so But yeah, I couldn't buy
rocks so you mentioned the the regular the original
version and the edited version I Watched the
original version the actual original version.
I'm going to embed in the post because you sent
it to me I don't know how long that video will
stay up, but at least it'll be there for the
first couple of weeks so people can see it. But
the original version makes the plot of this episode...
The original version makes the plot make actual
sense. The edited version makes it make absolutely
no sense whatsoever. I have no super leaves for
this at all. Like I remember in 1990 as a 10
year old getting caught up in the song of these
guys, you know, for the two songs that are popular
from them. But honestly, I didn't, I was more
of a new kid's guy than Millie Vanillie. And
at least the new kids, at least the new kids
sung their songs. you know so for petui moments
for me how are they in the front row there's
like a million people around the princess like
it's like they're in a friggin circle and and
at the end of the episode either rob or fab or
one of them says this is for the girl that was
in the front row at our concert or something
or other and it's like how the hell are they
in the front row this is This is what I was talking
about earlier. The original version is so much
better as far as follow along. Mario and company
playing the instruments badly shows how they
get away. Replacing it with Mega Move kinda ruins
whatever even plot that there is in this episode.
No, but I'm serious. You saw the original version.
You saw them play it badly. You saw Mario, Toad,
Luigi, and the Princess play the instruments
badly. And then you watch the... the the version
that's on the dvd with megamove and it's like
hey we're dancing we're dancing we're dancing
and we're we're we're mega moving along and you
know it we're we're having a mega good time and
you know just waiting for mega man from captain
to show up um it's got a mega boom you know uh...
it's just one of those things where Even though
this is a bad episode the original version is
the better of the two as far as to being able
to follow along with What little story there
is? So yeah, let's um, let's go crush those mushrooms
or did you have anything that you wanted to say?
All right, we're gonna go crush the mushrooms
Who's coming? Aliens! Aliens! There were dozens
of them, Cookie! A lot of aliens! Millions of
them, Big Mouth! is Mushroomers. This one. Let's
see here. Mushroomers. It aired on November 3rd,
1990. When a real world family drives into the
Mushroom Kingdom, the Mushroom people and the
Koopas mistake them for aliens. So yeah, the
Griswolds show up in the Mushroom Kingdom. Oh.
that's an insult to jimmy chastity but i would
love to look at the look of what the station
where it's got wood paneling it's the critical
mobile all it needs is like a dog collar hanging
off the bumper i know and i know that you know
it's it's a husband wife and a son of a daughter
so technically yeah you're right it could be
the griswolds but i mean i i'm sorry that the
voices for the mother and father are It would
have been better if they had actually paid Chevy
Chase and Beverly D 'Angelo to come in and do
the voices. That would have been awesome. They
were even on their way to an amusement park called
the Wild Waldo's One of a Kind Amusement Park,
which I'm sure is a tongue -in -cheek reference
to Wally World. Oh, absolutely. Yeah, no, I'm
not saying it's not a Christmas or not a National
Lampoon's vacation ripoff it is yeah, but I just
Saying just even saying that they are that that
family is the Griswolds is the is an insult I
know But I couldn't help but make that reference
yeah this episode uh... you know my first i have
all the two moments here i really do folks like
there's nothing good about this one i mean other
than the fact now that you know you point out
that hey it's it's the griswolds in the mushroom
kingdom all or a rumors episode and seriously
the coupe a kid you know in the intro to every
single episode of this show the narrator says
the most vile things that the mushroom kingdom
has ever known is koopa kids and yet in this
episode they freak out about aliens kooky is
ready and then the characterization for the kids
especially kooky kooky as i've said several times
in the last few weeks here in pixels the animation
kooky is essentially the evil donatello of the
mario universe he is a koopa of science He shouldn't
be believing Okay, I'm sure there's science science
of aliens and I'm actually gonna point this at
this podcast episode onto Mike dot because I
know he's gonna go off once he hears me talk
about how aliens are not scientific but that
they're just you know make believe in in suits
and everything else, but It's just the characterization.
It is so horrible and then the one thing the
most stupid like Not even Martin not even Captain
Lou and Danny Wells in drag It gets a zero more
than this episode gets a zero because there's
no way in fucking hell That Mario and Luigi can
lift a damn station wagon into the water They
put the first of all how the hell did they get
the raft under the damn station wagon? Seriously
when it was on they they lift the raft and all
of the station wagon, the two brothers, into
the water. That's just completely unbelievable.
Oh my god. And then Koopa, his lack of intelligent
logic is baffling. There's one thing here I put
in Patooie's I probably should have put in Super
Leafs, but I put it in Patooie's because I wasn't
sure, but then I actually, I actually stopped
watching this cartoon, and I went over to my
All Stars. Game to actually play to see if this
would work. I wasn't sure if this was game accurate
an invincible frog Mario Yeah, yeah, it is it
is very accurate You could have the frog suit
inside the inside the boot with the super star
Wow, yeah And then another thing I'm sorry Raccoon
tails are powerful, but they're not powerful
enough to go through cinder blocks No way in
hell just no way. What do you have for for either?
You know good bad or whatever well, I have to
I have to knock this episode for inaccurate game
mechanics because at one point Mario destroys
a A note block and if you play the game of course
the note blocks are invincible. You can't destroy
them Right, I was like I was like goddamn it
and then and then oh my god the goddamn fucking
frog suit again It's your favorite thing in the
world like this cartoon is ridiculous enough
What can we do more that makes it even stupider?
Let's get the frog suit. Oh, oh it gets worse
the final episode of the day If you didn't like
it here, you're definitely not gonna like the
next episode at all because Alright anything
else on much rumors no Alright Don't believe
rumors folks, you know, if you get caught every
once in a while believing a story from the onion
Yeah, food, you know fool on you, but you know
don't believe the room don't believe everything
you read or hear so we'll be back with the final
episode the ugly mermaid after this you do that
and your every fish wish is my command so finally
up today we have the ugly mermaid while wearing
a frog suit mario almost drowns but he is saved
by holy mackerel that's that's holly mackerel
A mermaid princess, Holly, falls in love with
Mario and tries to marry him. This episode also
aired because that was the coolest thing about
these episodes or this show is they had episode
number 109A and B. It was a double shot of the
show, kind of like what we'll have. Back when
we did Captain, we did Season 3 separate from
what it originally was packaged as, because it
was packaged as Captain and Season 3 in the New
Super Mario World to have two cartoons to make
an actual, an overall 30 minute episode or whatever
else, so yeah. So The Ugly Mermaid, this episode,
I like that we finally see the Waterland map
used as the title card. Mario is a plumber, he
is used to dealing with water, he's been in a
frog suit twice in the last two episodes, this
episode and the episode we just talked about.
He drowns in the ocean and then all of a sudden
he's afraid of water. Yeah. There are entire
episodes of the Super Show where he's underwater
the entire episode. So it's like, okay, Deke,
not that there's any consistency in this cartoon
anyway, but still. Um, the good thing is I can't
blame Doug Booth for this because he did not
write this. Some of the other staff writers for
Deke wrote this. And this might be worse than
anything Doug Booth has ever written. It really,
really will. And then of course, you have to
have the cliche of the mermaid falling in love
with him. Oh god. Trying to marry him. Hollywood
if she could. And then because they have this
whole thing of They have to wear fish bowls on
their heads while they're in this makes absolutely
no sense to me If you think if you think about
this, okay, they should have to wear the fish
bowls outside of I'm just gonna call the damn
thing Atlantis. They call it metropolis or something
or other. It's like hey, where's Merman when
you really need him? At least Merman's more intelligent
than half of these fucking people. Yeah, this
makes no sense. They're fish people and they
live under a giant bubble filled with air. It's
like, why do you live here? You're fish! And
then Koopa attacks... Attacks the the city later
and water starts rushing in and they're like,
oh my god, we're fish people run from the water
Yeah, it's it's bad it's really really bad And
then Such a double standard The this episode
is built on double standard alone. It really
is because you know She finds him super attractive
as the frog and yet when she puts the fishbowl
on him, he's ugly as sin Because it's a frog.
So they that's one thing like I wish they would
have actually taken him out of the frog suit.
I Really wish they would have done funnier. He
gets out of the frog suit and then she finds
him ugly Yeah, probably. What is the deal with
these merpeople though? They're half fish, half
human? Because if you look at their legs, their
legs look like 80 year old grandma legs. Like
the merking, his legs look... Oh god, this episode.
You got anything? I'm at a loss. I think I just
zipped through all my hate on this episode in
one fell swoop. I mean, if you didn't like the
frog suit before this, you're not going to like
it now, because all of them, all four of them,
Princess Toad, Luigi, and Mario, they're in the
frog suits the entire episode. And they look
so stupid. Oh, I didn't even get to print. Yeah,
Toad, this is exactly why. exactly why they should
have killed toad in super show and not had him
come over to mario 3 because his him in a frog
suit underwater it looks like i don't even know
what it looks like it the super mario brothers
3 power set is not made for toad at all so Alright,

and gets one point because okay well i'll give
it all great both of them the the the original
episode gets a one because the only thing i like
was seeing more of her temper tantrums because
she's hilarious when she does her temper tantrums
In the fact that it actually, you know follows
along with the story and the other one the the
The mega move episode gets a zero. There's there's
nothing good about that. Just What about you
for how to give both versions of zero zero? Mushroomers
I'll give it a one Mushroomers is the episode
of this series that really like I was actually
physically shaking when I saw the Mario Brothers
throw that car into the river. It gets a zero.
Nothing about it. I mean that's like with wiki
type strength there. Are we talking G1 or are
we talking a bitch? G1. Okay. Anyone with the
last name with wiki has like superhuman strength
in that show. Just watch it and you'll see. No,
I know, I know. I just wanted to make sure you
weren't talking about the the lay bitch um the
ugly mermaid what are you gonna give it i gotta
give it a zero this is a fucking frog suit episode
and it's got i give it a zero for the the lack
of good writing and the the completely unbelievableness
of these underwater people so why do you live
