Hello and welcome to... Movie we can review is
2013 movie preview and this is part one covering
the first six months of the year and I am your
host Steve Megatron Phillips and joining me here
in this adventure into the theaters are You're
doing mine And Move your bolt in opposed to Optimus
many. Anyways, so cutting right to the chase
we did miss January and February which honestly
I think next year we might try and cover this
in December so we actually get those months in
there instead of glossing them over. But for
you guys what were your most memorable movies?
as quick as you can on January and February,
starting in reverse order of introduction. Well,
mine, we're sorry, I gotta apologize for my voice,
because I have been losing it all day. But mine
for January would be Gangster Squad and Broken
City. Those were the two that I saw that kind
of stuck out with me. Liked them both. Probably
like Gangster Squad a little bit more than Broken
City. Yeah, they were fun Thanks for squadhead
Ryan Gosling Sean Penn and Josh Brolin and I
just thought it was a good film to come out during
these kind of dead months that January and February
always seemed to be So those are my two picks
for the ones that stood out Dan Well, look looking
back this isn't technically a 2013 film it came
out limited in 2012 But the one that it went
out wide beginning of January was there dark
30 I first felt it beginning in January and thought
that was pretty amazing. Also saw gangster squad
which I was really highly anticipating and that
was said to come out in August of last year But
got pushed back because of the whole controversy
I liked it I was I was honestly a little disappointed
because I had my expectations were so high and
there's a lot of people in that film I really
like in the director Ruben Fleischer Ryan Gosling
Emma Stone. I thought it was okay I didn't really
see much else. I did see See I did not hear us
die. Yeah, all superheroes must say which was
a not in the theater that was just Direct, you
know that one like directed DVD direct on demand
And I also saw a good day to die hard, which
also I did not really enjoy But yeah, there really
wasn't much I mean last year there was a few
kind of gems that came out really early like
Chronicle the gray A few others. This year, not
much. I did want to see Side Effects, Stephen
Soderbergh's new film. I did not get a chance
to see that. And I heard some good things about
Warm Bodies. And the only reason I'm really interested
in that, because it's directed by the guy who
did 50 -50, which I really loved. So I thought
maybe that could actually be good. The content
of that film is not something that really appeals
to me, but... I also saw Movie 43 and that was
terrible. Yeah, I heard it was terrible and I
decided not to watch it because of that. I mean
it was so just Randomly put together and there's
all these like little bits and pieces and it
just was like the most bizarre stuff ever I Don't
know Hugh Jackman with balls hanging from his
neck That sounds appetizing. No. Yeah I kind
of wanted to see snitch rocks new film just because
it seems like it's gonna be the closest thing
we're ever gonna get to an over -the -top remake
But besides that yeah these past few months are
pretty dry There are some like movies that have
potential like pull to the head and the last
stand but those didn't do much either like the
ultimate big action stars came back this year
and Seemed like none of them are all that successful
Me January and February is a month to get caught
up with all the movies that you didn't get to
see in the past year That's all I spent January
and February doing I saw Silver linings playbook
and Argo and a bunch of them that I missed and
by the way Argo is not the best picture the year
anyway continue Yeah, I actually I go to this
thing called the best picture showcase so I get
to see All the best picture films. I've already,
I already saw them before that, but I get to
see them all again for a second time, sometimes
third or fourth. Some in the theater for the
first time. But yeah, this time of year it's
really, it's great time for DVDs and Redbox and
stuff like that. Not so much for the theater.
For me, when I first... Heard of or saw anything
about storage 24. I didn't even realize it was
a movie I thought it was a new storage reality
show on any or something. I was like, oh and
then I looked at the trailer I'm like, oh, yeah.
No out of these two months. The ones that I'm
interested to see are broken city I've heard
mixed reviews on Hansel and Gretel witch hunters
I refuse to see movie 43. There's just no way
Parker again Jason Statham in his you know the
same role he does every movie but but yeah other
than that January just really hasn't just doesn't
really have anything in there and as far as February
goes yes I did go see the re -release it's not
a new movie the re -release of Top Gun on my
birthday in IMAX 3 that was awesome kept seeing
one of the reasons why I it's not just that I
judge stuff on the trailers it's how many times
I see the trailer before the movie comes out
by the 50th time I saw an identity thief trailer
on TV I was so friggin tired of it and I was
like I do not even care about that damn movie
you can say the same thing about some of them
that have yet to come out because I've seen the
trailer so many times. Yeah, that's another reason
why, it's not just me judging it from the trailer,
it's just, that's another reason why. So let's
see, what else in February? A Good Day to Die
Hard, I've heard things that, oh, it's John McClane
in an action movie, it doesn't have the heart
that the other Die Hard movies have had. I've
heard that as well, and I've heard the fact,
I mean, that's, I think, despite the fact that
it's not. your typical die -hard film. I think
that it's still something worth seeing. Yeah,
it's something worth seeing. Even though John
McClane is not really... I mean, he's just kind
of there in the motions. It's not... It's not...
You could throw in any other action character
in there or generic Joe number one and it would
be the same. Yeah, I mean, that's the thing.
It's like, yes. I will see a good day to die
hard eventually. Will I see it in the theater?
Not for those prices. I'll wait till it hits
Redbox or Netflix or wait till it hits whatever.
Like Dan, I'm interested to see Snitch. The Rock
is everywhere. He's got Snitch. I almost said
Resolute. That's not the name of the stupid movie.
retaliation and fast six this year at least in
the first beginning of the year no telling what
he's got the the other six months of the year
but he's ever he's all over the place this year
so yeah that's pretty much it for me for february
what about you steve anything from january and
february that you like really want to see whether
it's in theaters or on dvd um well being that
i can go into a movie as hard pressed as it is
um because of my son Throw him under the bus.
That's right. I wanted to see the last stand
because I'm an Arnold Schwarzenegger fan. Johnny
Knoxville in the film, despite the fact that
he plays the same freaking character in everything
he's in. The buddy sidekick to whoever happens
to be in charge. I just kind of found it humorous
in that but I like Arnold anyway, so I kind of
am wanting to see that The The other one I had
seen in Beginning of February was identity thief
I'd actually gone and seen that that was really
good I Had like the the dynamic of Jason Bateman
in it and then you've got you know How basically
walks into it and gets kind of screwed over And
you get it you get the you know typical bosses
screwing over employees and you know, basically
like screw you and then His identity gets stolen.
But anyways, uh, the the movie in general was
really good a lot of funny moments in it The
other movie that I wanted to see was a good day
to die hard, which unfortunately didn't get to
see But from the sounds of whatever thing I've
heard and read, I'll probably wait till it hits
DVD to see it. So I think that about covers up
our January and February releases, unless anybody
else has anything else that they'd like to mention.
I'm good. OK. All right. And we'll be right back
after this quick trailer break. with our March
releases. city you are here at last and the property
shall be fulfilled this is my sister Evanora
I'm here to serve you the royal treasure of Oz
it belongs to you but only after you defeat the
wicked witch just how wicked is she towns were
destroyed children were orphaned great wizard
from Kansas I've waited for you Did those crows
just say we're gonna die? Your magic is the only
thing strong enough to save us all. Please tell
me you gentlemen can fight. No. What we seeing?
Guys... Can you see it? I see it. My son was
in the bus. He saw what Clark did. You have to
keep this side of yourself a secret. What was
I supposed to do? Just let him die? Where do
I come from? You just have to decide what kind
of man you want to grow up to be, Clark. Whoever
that man is, he's gonna change the world. convinced
that the world wasn't ready. What do you think?
All right, jumping right into March's releases,
we'll get on with basically everybody's list.
Kevin, do you want to go first? Sure. The ones
I'm looking forward to most in March starting
with the Phantom I haven't seen Ed Harris in
forever it seems like I was gonna say wait a
second didn't they already make that movie which
looks like the abyss I just like anything that
has any type of history ties and like you got
Ed Harris who I haven't seen in forever I don't
know if I've ever seen David Duchovny in a movie
you've never seen X -Files fight the future I
haven't seen X -Files period okay well there
you go not my thing. So I've never seen him in
a movie. So I'm just interested to see how that
one kind of plays out. As far as the other March
releases, I don't know, do you guys want me to
go to the next date or is that all for March
1st or do you guys have any on March 1st that
you're looking forward to? The only one I might
see, I don't think I'll see it in the theater,
but the only one that I'm interested in on March
1st is Jack the Giant Slayer. I kept wanting
to call that film Jack the Giant Killer and then
I kept seeing the trailer. Oh, it's not killer,
it's Slayer. Same thing, but... I do like the
idea of these more classic stories getting like
this epic, like... The epic kind of big screen
reboot type of deal where it's not just direct
to video. Oh, hey, let's let's do this. Yeah.
But that's that's all I really am interested
in on March 1st. What about you, Dan? much. With
the Jack the Giant Slayer thing, I think the
reason why you keep thinking it's Jack the Giant
Killer is because it was originally titled that
and then they pushed it back. It was supposed
to come out last year, they pushed it back to
March and then they retitled it Jack the Giant
Slayer just to try to get more of a family appeal.
I think they didn't know what to do with that
movie because it kind of has a tone of a family
film but has some pretty graphic violence to
it. I think there is some interest in Phantom.
I love Submarine movies, like Dostbu, the Run
for an October. Sometimes they're a great framework
for a great story. But besides that, there's
really not much else. 21 and Over to me looks
like a sequel to Project X that no one ever wanted.
To me it looks like a sequel. To me it looks
like the younger version of Hangover. They're
all that I would I would think project X is basically
that as well. Yeah, and I just think the last
exercise the last exercise in part two Has to
be one of the funniest trail funniest titles
of all time the fact that it's the last exercise
But there's two parts to it Yeah, that is ridiculous
Steve anything that you're interested in um for
March 1st The jack the giant slayer looks like
it could be interesting I'm not really into all
the Various themes whether it be the you know
wizard vampire zombie fairy tale whatever But
out of this particular week of March. I'd say
that would be the only one that I Deem worthy
of watching Yeah, I agree with the exception
that maybe Phantom could be good, but I just
haven't You know, I'm not sold on it, but I'll
definitely probably go see it I'm actually interested
in both of them on March 8th. Oh Yeah, I am too.
No dead man down To me this has the makings of
a film that is not gonna be appreciated right
away But maybe one that like five years from
now or three or four years from now people like
are still talking about or still liking or still
watching and it just has that like instant classic
look to me. The only thing that scares me about
Dead Man Down is WWE is somehow connected to
it. They're just distributing it. They actually
have two movies distributing in Mars that there's
no WWE characters I think they just bought it
and I think they're trying to expand their, you
know, their movie studio All I care is that the
letters WWE were on there somewhere and that
scares me Yeah, they're just putting they're
just giving it money to put it in theaters because
I think if WWE didn't pick it up It probably
would have just been a directed DVD film Gotcha,
but I'm definitely interested in that one and
I am beyond interested in Oz the Great and Powerful.
The only problem with this one is I'm gonna go
in with such high expectations because there's
so much potential here, but I just don't see
how it's gonna fail. No, there's no way Oz the
Great and Powerful will fail. It's a genius idea
to tell the story of... You know of the wizard
how how the wizard became the wizard and the
cast is just freaking out of this world It is
yeah. Oh, it's a Sam Raimi film. What do you
expect? Yeah, but I'm just saying like No, I'm
not even talking about James Franco because I
could care less about him But but everybody all
the different witches Yeah all the different
witches are seem like they're perfectly cast
and I don't know if I've ever seen something
as spooky or Freaky as the end of that trailer
when they show The witch forming or coming into
you know focus there that is that is beyond freaky
to me. Yeah, that is Yeah, that's and that's
one thing I like about what they're doing with
Oz the great and powerful as you said They're
telling the story of how he came to the land
of Oz versus Hey Hollywood let's just put out
another remake or another version of the Wizard
of Oz and do same store the same oh Dorothy blah
blah blah blah blah yeah and then I mean it when
you think about it this this has always been
the tale that people have been kind of wondering
of what happened prior right right what are your
thoughts on the two uh March 8th movies Dan I'll
I actually I know I'm gonna go see Oz the great
and powerful. I will be seeing that film I am
curious how say Remy because he has great talents
for horror comedy and I think The you know the
witches in the Wizard of Oz story kind of lend
himself greatly to to that My only worry is like
the trailer when I'm watching it It doesn't really
feel like a Sam Raimi movie. It almost feels
more like a Tim Burton film at times Yes, I think
because it's so CGI heavy but I Still didn't
think there's potential night. I like how it
when it starts off, they kind of stay with the
original. And when they're in Kansas, the aspect
ratio is just your frame format. And it's black
and white. And then when they get into Oz, they
kind of go back to color. And then in this time,
instead of having just the increase of color,
they're actually adding 3D, too. And from the
brief previews that I've seen in 3D, I thought
that I was actually being impressed with the
3D that they had. I just hope that continues
for the entirety of the film. I was impressed
with the CGI they showed too. And a lot of the
scenes in the trailer just made it look really
fantastical and it didn't seem like it took away
from the film too much. Yeah, I can definitely
see that. That film, I can honestly say, unlike
the failed attempt to remake Willy Wonka, I would
say that this this particular idea is actually
very very intelligent on their part and I'm super
stoked for it just because I mean I'm not a huge
fan of the the Wizard of Oz But I still think
it that this tale is something worth telling
So it's it's gonna be interesting to see if it
can live up to the hype of all the previous backlog
of the original movie. Yeah, like Mike said,
there's been so many Wizard of Oz stories and
tellings and stuff like that. And I think, like
he said though, the thing this has the advantage
of is it's telling a different story. Yeah, it's
the same universe and it's the same, some of
the same characters, but at least it's taking
a different stance on it instead of just rehashing
the same old, you know, Dorothy story. And the
wizard seems to be a live -action version of
Scrooge McDuck. Because he dives into the gold.
Only you would say that. Shut up. You and your
BS. Oh, man. Hey, you guys like DuckTales, shut
the hell up. Who doesn't? March 15th has the
actual WWE film The Call, which is one that they
are promoting because they were promoting it
like hell on Raw. And it also has the incredible
Burt Wonderstone Yeah, I can pass on both of
these For me the call is like what you said about
before it's one of those where I've seen the
trailer now too many times Yeah, and I've lost
all interest in this movie the incredible Burt
Wonderstone. I want that to be funny But I just
don't think it's gonna be You know you have these
two guys paired and I'm like oh my god Jim Carrey
back in like straight -up comedy I'm like this
and then it gets to the part where they're like
he's holding his pee This is probably gonna be
stupid well the only thing I can kind of say
in its its favor is I mean you have I'm not a
huge fan of Steve Carell it depends on what he's
in Steve Buscemi's Funny and pretty much everything
just because of how he talks and acts And then
you get Jim Carrey and it seems like this is
the first film In probably the last ten years
that he's back in his 90s element. Yeah, and
I think that that's a good thing for him because
he fits really well into that comedic area So
I think that this this actually may be pretty
good. So I'm actually kind of stoked for it My
question about this one is what the Is Tony Soprano
doing in this movie James Gandolfini nobody cares
it is hard to do high -concept comedy like when
you take something like Magic and try to form
a comedy after it and I think there is a lot
of potential like we mentioned There's a lot
of great people in this and I think there's gonna
be a satirical edge to it But sometimes when
you get doing a satire how do you it's how do
you frame it and how do you do it correctly cuz
otherwise can just be look at look like ridiculous
but I I really I'm with Kevin and hoping it hoping
it's good because there's a lot of people in
that I'm a fan of but watching the trailer a
lot of the jokes didn't really hit all that well
but maybe for once they actually left some of
the funny jokes in the movie so you don't get
to see them beforehand yeah sometimes with with
comedy too they try to make the trailer more
broad and then the actual film itself there's
more There's better jokes and more wit to it.
So hopefully that's the case with that. I think
there is a huge chance that Alan Arkin is the
funniest part of that movie. Oh, I would not
deny that. But but I still think that it will
help having Jim Carrey back in his element. Yeah,
I mean and that's why I hope it's good That's
the one reason why I'm somewhat excited for it
to like hope that it has something but I can
just see Alan Arkin somehow stealing the whole
movie Oh, he's he's going to most assuredly because
your leading man is technically Steve Carell
Yeah, I know how Mike feels about Steve Carell,
but that's besides the point Hey, I like him
as the voice of grew. That's yeah, you hate him
as an actor Yeah, exactly. But anyways Anybody
else on this particular week it's a bad week
as far as the call goes Yeah, yeah, I mean I
think the call even even because it is a WWE
film I I'm surprised that Halle Berry is in it
because it is a WWE Sponsored film, but I think
it could be cool, but it would most likely just
be Like I said before, a red box or Netflix,
it's not something I would, oh my god, I have
to see this on the big screen. I kind of have
to agree. It doesn't look bad. I mean, the concept
is kind of there. The concept looks great because
you've got a 911 operator that wants to help
this girl. Yeah, but my problem with it is it
takes... It's WWE. No, it takes the concept of...
There's a 911 operator and she somehow directly
affects what happens to this girl by how she
handles the call or whatnot and then you know
It alludes to you know, the guy calling back
and her recognizing that it's the same person
I don't have any problem with that. That's a
good concept whatever but when it gets to the
point where she is directly involved in Now we
have the 911 operator face to face with the killer
Like that to me is too far of a stretch Yeah,
because normally you know they just and I've
seen like stuff on 9 -1 -1 operators and stuff
They just handle the calls and pass it over.
There's no chance that a 9 -1 -1 operator somehow
is directly involved in with a killer and out
there trying to like punch or kick or do whatever
like That just was like a too far of a leap for
me the way that the trailer though the way that
the trailer portrays her her care of the Halle
Berry's 9 -1 -1 operator character is that she
I don't know the trailer portrayed her like she
could have been a cop just Moonlighted you like
if she was just oh, hey, I need to help out at
the I don't know It was really weird It wasn't
like so clear that is she an actual police officer
or she just a 9 -1 -1 operator It wasn't that
clear to me at all because you see her Saying
I want to do something about this blah blah blah
blah. They're telling her leave the case alone
So I don't know it could be alright, but it's
more than likely gonna be a flop Yeah on on March
22nd, we've got admission the Croods inappropriate
and Olympus has fallen To me Okay, first of all
admission like I don't think there's gonna be
anything wrong with that Like if I had like a
date to go on I take someone to it You know,
it seems like a feel -good movie The Croods is
probably one of the animated movies that I'm
least looking forward to this year Worst animated
picture of the year so far from I think I probably
get a lot of acclaim and it'll probably be You
know up for awards and whatever. It'll be up
for the best animated feature But for me, there's
a couple other ones that I'm more excited about
I'm inappropriate comedy. I have no idea what
to make of that one. I I don't know if it's gonna
be like the most hilarious thing ever Or if it's
gonna be a total flop for me the one that I'm
looking forward to on March 22nd If I had to
pick one would be Olympus has fallen I don't
know We've seen movies. We've seen a ton of movies
where there's been a president or where there's
been something going on I don't remember too
many movies though where the president has actually
been taken hostage I'm sure there's been a couple
But for me York But for me what what really Kind
of, it's almost like a Die Hard character, almost
like John McClane, as far as Butler's character,
mixed with the president being kidnapped. I mean,
I'm not saying it's going to be a great movie,
but it's something that I'm definitely going
to see at some point, whether it be in the theater
or on DVD or Netflix or something. This is what
Die Hard should have been. Yeah, exactly. uh...
the only president movie i can think of that
was kidnapping technically they kidnapped the
plane but air force one yes and i'm but it's
just so different than that the study yeah you
know the white house that we have the tears there
in the president's kidnap to me that's it's like
a report what's that like twenty they did in
the season of twenty four yeah they did yeah
but i'm It has a little bit of potential. There's
a lot of good people in it. You know, Ashley
Judd, Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart. I don't
mind Gerard Butler. So if I had to pick one for
that week, that would be the one that I'm looking
forward to the most. What about you, Steve? Myself,
I have to agree that inappropriate comedy, I
think that's going to be a flop. Rob Schneider
doesn't stand up on his own without Adam Sandler.
Lizzie Lohan's in the dog house. Nobody gives
a shit about her. Rodriguez is mostly somebody
who picks up dead rolls where she's a dead character
and comes back somehow. And then Adrian Brody
is pretty much the only name in this film and
it's gonna bomb. The Crude's not the best concept
for an animated movie. I have to agree that it's
not something I'd care to see. at all. What the
hell is DreamWorks thinking? DreamWorks is trying
to catch up with concepts that Pixar does. Pixar
has brave, DreamWorks has crude. So, you know,
just go figure. DreamWorks is always two steps
behind, so they're screwed. Anyways, admission
doesn't look that bad. I'm sure it'll be all
right. I mean, it's Pina Fey and Paul Rudd, so
usually they're pretty good in films. But that's
something I'd wait for DVD anyway, and I have
to agree with Kevin here the Olympus has fallen
is probably the most Interesting film out of
this entire week I like Gerard Butler's movies
Morgan Freeman so I mean it's it looks to be
the strongest of the week and I think that It'll
be a really good fun action film Are you Dan?
I guess I'll kind of just continue what we've
been saying Again emissions looks like a harmless
comedy The thing about inappropriate comedy that
really makes my mind hurt is the fact that it's
directed by the guy from the sham while infomercials
Like it's his first ever time directing and to
me it just reeks of someone who has a lot of
money now from like what he's done with infomercial
so he thinks like oh i'm hilarious so i'm gonna
try to make this comedy and it just i think it'll
be one of those you talked about movie 43 and
i i get the same type of vibe with that film
it's gonna be just as bad as that um olympus
has fallen uh i I'm kind of hoping it's good
because it's directed by Antoine Farquaad, the
guy who did Training Day. He's a shooter and
a few things else. He's really a hit and miss
director, but he's usually pretty good with action,
like even if it's kind of like old school action,
which I thought shooter kind of reminded me of.
And like we mentioned, a lot of great people.
And usually if Morgan Freeman's in your movie
and it's about the president, bad things are
going to happen. So it's a deep impact. Olympus
has fallen. It's not a good sign. And I'm kind
of glad to see Gerald Butler kind of getting
back to action I remember after 300 thinking
like oh he'll be the big action star and it never
really happened So maybe he'll kind of get a
second one with that film and it'll finally come
to pass We'll have another person out there.
He's done a couple different He's done a couple
different action movies since but not not very
many. He's done mostly comedies or family films
Yeah, he's been he's been in like the world of
like romantic comedies a lot But pretty much
the overall March doesn't honestly look that
much better There's a few films, but does it
so far the thing that really stands out much
more than January and February? Unfortunately
So do we have March all wrapped up well, we got
one more one last one Oh, yes, this is the actual
one of the the best week side of the month For
only one film. No, there's two films that one
that looks interesting and one that I'm super
stoked for. Yes. Why don't you go ahead and take...
I'll go ahead and go first. This is for the week
of March 29th. The first film coming out is on
the 28th. That is G .I. Joe Retaliation and it
is not delayed again this year. Yeah, well that
was Paramount's fault, and then they realized
oh shit We should have left Duke in there and
killing his ass off in the first ten minutes
I just find it funny, and I'll let you go after
I say this I just find it funny that they delayed
it nine months the same length as a pregnancy
well They had to save their baby of Channing
Tatum, so But uh yeah this this film I'm Pretty
excited for I like GI Joe the first film was
a travesty this film on the other hand actually
looks like they're gonna do something right I
was a little leery on hearing John Chu directing
it but From what I've seen of all the trailers
and the the characters Portrayals and everything.
I think that he's doing it justice this time
Whereas the director of the first film I think
shot that right in the ass You have you know
Bruce Willis is Joe Colton the first GI Joe you
have the rock playing Roadblock and then you
have you know Channing Tatum is Duke and then
you have Ray Park is snake eyes Which they actually
got his costume corrected and put lips on his
mouth Like they did in the first one I saw that
as the travesty of bat nipples all over again
You know, I know they seem like and they brought
Cobra commander to his 80s glory That's true.
I know it seems like you're just bringing in
these huge names like Bruce Willis and The Rock,
but I actually think that is excellent casting.
They fit the look. Oh, it's perfect. I can't
picture someone that would fit Roadblock better
than The Rock. No, I mean he fits that perfectly.
Just like Channing Tatum as Duke and Bruce Willis
as Joe Colton and then you got Lady J. This film
so I mean we've got actually a pretty kick -ass
cast this time around Despite the fact that we've
lost some of the Cool GI Joe characters from
the first film But still I I'm super pumped for
this film. This is gonna be one that I plan on
seeing with or without my wife But yeah, I think
that this is gonna be really good My other film
that my wife really wants to see because she
read the book is The Host. She's been trying
to get me to read it. I just don't care. I don't
read. I prefer to watch a movie. But it's basically
it's another book written by the Stephanie Meyer
who wrote The Twilight Saga. My wife says that
this is way better than Twilight though because
it has to do with these aliens that take over
mankind and take over their bodies, erasing their
memories, and basically do away with war and
any kind of battles of any kind. And then there's
a few splinter cells of humans left unscathed
from the aliens that are fighting back. So it
seems quite interesting. We'll be seeing that.
I know that for sure. I think it'll be a it'll
be popular. I think it'll have its You know a
large group of people that are gonna want to
see that It's an interesting concept. I Agree
with you though. Obviously Jay Joe's the one
to see that day or that week I'm not a hundred
percent as much as I hate to say this because
I'm against almost everything else he does I'm
not a hundred percent turned off of Tyler Perry's
temptation I've never really watched anything
else he's done, and I've never been excited about
anything that he's done, but for me the whole
concept does look somewhat interesting, but I'm
not gonna see it in the theater or anything.
The only movie I'll see in the theater out of
that week is G .I. Joe. Yeah, that's the same
with me. I've seen bits and pieces of Tyler Perry's
stuff, but his stuff is directed at a specific
audience, I think, and I just don't. Just don't
care for it. It's not my thing. I don't care
to see that either. I don't really like anything
to do with him. I didn't even like that he was
in Star Trek. Dan, thoughts on the final weekend
march? I guess I'll continue it again. TRJ is
probably the only thing I'll see. The host, to
me that idea has been done countless times. I
mean, we've had invasion of the body snatchers
films. That's been remade. Countless amount of
time so I don't know if that's gonna be that
I think this is almost a different kind of concept
I mean, it's not like invasion. I mean it's like
invasion, but not at the same time Maybe I I
mean I don't really but just the overall idea
maybe it's very similar, but How is executed
could be different? I never wrote the book so
it'd be unfair for me to say it's exactly the
same but personally it just honestly having that
connection to Twilight does kind of, I think,
hurt it more for me. I'm pretty sure box office
wise, it's probably going to help it. I'm sure
it'll be one of those big hits during the early
months of the year because of that connection.
But I'll probably only see J .I. Joe that weekend.
So that's it for me. We move on over to April.
For me April April is by far the I don't know
I know we've said bad stuff about January and
February and March wasn't that much better etc
etc But for me April is the worst month of the
year. I Agree with you. I have nothing. There's
nothing in April. I can't say I want to see the
whole month pain and gain This is how I can sum
this up here evil dead no, thank you Oblivion,
maybe if it wasn't starring Tom Cruise. Scary
Movie 5, why are they still making these? Horrible
casting in Jobs. I don't know how anybody could
buy Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs. There's no
way in hell. The Number Station is just Person
of Interest the movie. Pain and gain I'm not
real sure about that one and the big wedding
You know that has a great cast and it'll probably
be you know again like that's a fine. You know
romantic comedy type movie whatever But for me
the only movie in April we're seeing is April
12th, and that's 42 I know every year. It seems
like nowadays. We're getting a baseball movie,
but to me This is I can't believe this has not
been a movie yet All the Jackie Robbins yeah,
that's it's actually quite interesting that they
decided to finally do that Yeah, like I couldn't
believe that someone hadn't thought of this before
and you got Harrison Ford you got Christopher
Maloney from Law and Order I just think this
movie has a lot of potential and that is by far
the highlight of April for me Plus, for those
that might want to go see, Jurassic Park 3D is
also coming out in April. That's literally probably
the second best thing to watch in April is a
remake. Yeah, exactly. I'm surprised, really
quick, before Steve goes, I'm surprised and I
actually like that they did this. Usually, at
least as far as I know, the past two movies for
Fast and the Furious have been April releases,
kind of like before the big blockbusters in May
and June. They should have just thrown that piece
of shit in this month too. No, no and shut up
hold on it's you for April I have to agree with
Kevin on 42. That's pretty much the only film
worth watching in this entire month Unless you
really want to go see Jurassic Park in 3d Which
most of us have seen it so many times we don't
care to see it again I'll wait for a dressing
park for yeah, that's what I'll wait for when
you know uh, Spielberg does it. Um, Scary Movie
5, I only have one thing to say about this. Terrible.
Because, I mean, think about it, you have Ashley
Tisdale, who's a reject from Disney Channel.
You have Molly Shannon, reject from SNL. You
have a bunch of people that pretty much don't
get jobs doing anything else. I mean, frick,
you got - mike tyson in there you get lindsey
lohan who can get a job notice she's in two shitty
movies for the year um... so far so far uh...
charlie sheen it's no surprise he was in the
last few so uh... because you know if they're
probably say something about he's winning uh...
but yeah that's just i had to agree april such
a terrible month for films that and pain and
gain might be all right but for me michael bay's
kind of like screwed up any kind of respect I
had for him since the Transformer films. Dan,
are we missing something in April? I guess I
am actually interested in Evil Dead. I'm not
a huge horror fan, but I've heard a lot. There's
a lot of great buzz about that coming out. It's
a remake of the original Evil Dead, of course.
It's not directed by Sam Raimi. If you knew anything
about. Evil dead films. They're a horror movie,
but they really have like a common comedic sensibility
to them This evil dead looks like it's very playing
itself very straight So I'm kind of curious how
that goes out. I'm actually really interested
in oblivion. I'm actually really big Tom Cruise
fan I guess you're not but I was I was in his
early days a few good men and Top Gun and all
those movies he did in his early days were fine.
But for me he's just jumped off the cliff oblivion
does look good, but It's I think it's just because
it's him He does a lot of these like end of the
world kind of I have to one man against all odds
saving the entire world And he's even named as
he did in his last movie Reacher Part two they
just all blend together Actually, I was really
interested in 42 until I saw the trailer and
I just thought I don't know it just looks really
it It's with sports films. There's always a level
of corneous corneous to them. Usually just the
way they're treated I just don't like how that
film look kind of looks and just it looks kind
of like it's not really giving That movie the
tone and sensibilities that could actually go
well with it and be a really great film Looks
like it's just a I don't know. It just to me.
It looks really generic honestly Jobs, I'm gonna
wait for the Aaron Sorkin jobs film. That's probably
gonna be a million times better than that Pain
and gain. Only thing I'm interested about it
is the fact I'm glad that Michael Bay is actually
doing a smaller film for Michael Bay, a smaller
film for him and his standards. But again, that
trailer kind of I think Michael Bay is not nearly
as funny as he thinks he is. And then his comedic,
his the comedy in that trailer was pretty, pretty
hit and miss. But yeah, I wouldn't disagree that
April is not much better than the other movies.
But the one that does stand out for me is Oblivion.
So I think we'll move on to the next month because
yeah April is a travesty Getting into May Right
off the bat we have May 3rd and For me that particular
week the only movie worth even looking at is
Iron Man 3 yeah that Especially after the trailer
that came out couple theatrical trailer that
just released two days ago. It's freaking amazing.
I think that this and you know, you guys know
how I love the Batman saga and everything and
everything Batman. I think this movie is going
to top that only for the fact that I think it's
going to take the whole broken and battered and
revenge to a whole new level. Because it's Tony
Stark and he has a certain kind of personality
and flair whereas like the way that the Dark
Knight Trilogy was portrayed Batman wasn't exactly
the the type of character I would expect out
of him Whereas this I I'm super amazed that for
one they were able to keep their roadie for a
second film They have the Mandarin, they have
the Extremis armor, they have all the different
Iron Man versions of the suit. You have the Hulkbuster,
all different variations and they even showed
off a ton of them right in this trailer at the
end. I was a little leery and then after I got
to see the the latest trailer, I was like, holy
shit, this is going to be amazing. I think all
the Iron Man movies have been good so far. And,
you know, this this is kind of a big one because
this is the first movie to come now on the other
side of the Avengers. Right. We had all the ones
building up to the Avengers and we got the Avengers
and now we have to go through, you know. this
and the next Captain America, the next Thor,
etc. So this one's gonna set the tone and I think
you're right, the trailer looks like it's gonna
deliver. Looks a little darker than some of the
other ones and I'm definitely looking forward
to Iron Man 3. I am too. I think this is the
summer just like in 2008. This is the summer
where Marvel and DC go head -to -head. In 2008
you had Iron Man versus the Dark Knight. This
year, you've got Iron Man 3 versus the Man of
Steel. And depending on how Man of Steel turns
out, Iron Man 3, and as Kevin said, it's post
-Avengers, it's good. This film's just going
to be so awesome. And the fact that it's someone
else's vision, but it's still keeping the same
continuity within Marvel, because it's not Jon
Favreau anymore. It's Shane Black doing the directing
on this one. and I absolutely love it. I love
the direction they're going with the Iron Man
films. I can't wait to see this. Yeah, I'll continue
what you were saying with Shane. I'm kind of
glad that Shane Black is directing this film.
I love what John Favreau did with Iron Man. Favreau's
still involved, though, too. He is, yeah. He's
an executive producer. When he gets executive
producer credit just because he made the first
film, really, I don't know much. It doesn't seem
like he had much to do. He's also acting in it.
Yeah, he's well, yeah, he's he's acting in it
as happy Hogan, but happy Hogan was you know
He is there. Yeah, so it's like he's completely
disconnected Right, right. Well, I'm glad Shane
Black is directing it he I mean in a lot of ways
Robert Downey jr. Can credit shame black for
re forgiving him Iron Man in the first place
because It was kiss King kiss bang bang, which
was chain blacks film that kind of got Robert
Downey jr. Back on his feet, which is a really
great movie if you haven't seen it I would definitely
advise checking it out. It's like it's kind of
seeing Robert Downey jr. Really coming into his
own So that and I think that darker tone it probably
has a lot to do with what change black did who
also I believe wrote lethal weapon one So he
has a really great pedigree. He actually wrote
all four lethal weapons and a possible fifth
one should they ever get it off the ground Yeah,
so I think it was a great I mean, a choice for
a director. I know Marvel's had issues keeping
directors and people dropping out, but I think
that was a great choice. So I'm curious how much
it's going to change from Avengers and Iron Man
2 to Iron Man 3 and how they're going to handle
Mandarin. And I think the way that Mandarin looks
is pretty fantastic. It looks just like the comic,
but it still stays in that framework that's been
established before. The special effects look
really amazing. I love that they're doing the
Iron Patriot. Costume kind of meshing that with
war machine was a pretty cool idea And and I'm
kind of curious what guy Pierce is gonna be in
that movie He seems like he's kind of doing what
Sam Rockwell did in Iron Man 2 like kind of that
like other You know the anti Maria yeah, so I'm
curious how he plays into it and there's a pretty
that's a pretty stock cast as well and I'm There's
a lot of rumors going on, but I'm kind of with
that Pepper Pot is probably going to be suiting
up in some sort of armor. If you watch that trailer,
I really get that sense as well. There's like
the image of her with like. In in rubble and
it looks like she she's basically clothesless
as so it seems like she was in some sort of contraption
and like why would she be around fire and only
having a bra on or and The the look of the costume
for Iron Man in this is very similar to the look
of her armor and the comics that's going on right
now, so I'm curious. It's gonna happen. I think
there's some possibilities to it. And do you
guys like the new look of Iron Man? Think it
looks good. I'm not I'm still not quite sure
about the inverted golden red, but I'm fine with
it because it's Still the same suit pretty much
So moving on to May 10th unless did you everything
else you want to say about Iron Man 3 Steve?
No, I'm good May 10th. We've got the great Gatsby
and another Tyler Perry movie. He's presenting
people's Am way way way way way way looking forward
to the very Gatsby No, I'm not a huge Leonardo
fan I thought you liked all kinds of turtles
though. What I thought you liked all kinds of
turtles though your damn unrelated references
he said Leonardo Leonardo's hit or miss for me
sometimes he is a terrible actor, and sometimes
he's a really good actor. It just, I don't understand
why some people think he's good all the time,
but anyway. But the reason I'm really looking
forward to this is because of Baz Luhrmann. I
loved his version of Romeo and Juliet. I liked
Australia. Moulin Rouge was all right. So I'm
just interested to see how he does this, and
the trailer just looks epic. You know, I said
I'm not huge on Leonardo DiCaprio and I'm not
huge on Tobey Maguire So the reason so the fact
that I'm so excited about this movie says a lot
about the trailer and and how they set it up
It just looks like it could be freaking amazing
I know everyone's buzzing about like this could
be the film that finally gets Leonardo DiCaprio
his best actor Award or whatever, but I have
high expectations for this one I'm not gonna
feel like a weird movie to come out on this It
does feel like a word movie to come out in the
summer though Like it it's odd like it seemed
like they were kind of pushing it for Oscar For
an Oscar last year because I was scheduled to
come out in December But then they pushed it
back to the summertime and you know Usually the
summertime or the big blockbuster films and it
doesn't really fall into that which I'm fine
with I mean it though it having 3d is also kind
of odd So I'm kind of curious how that's gonna
turn out. It's kind of It's one that I have it's
an enigma to me. I don't know. I think it could
be great But I just some there's something about
it that has me worried. I Just wish we could
get past the point where? The whole Hollywood
machine has a setup that the only movies that
get Oscar nominated are movies that are released
in November and December like I hate the fact
that If you're a movie that comes out in January
through June, you have no chance. Yeah, pretty
much. I mean, the big reason for that, though,
is just because of the way the festivals are
set up. You really don't have like you have can
in the summer you have but Toronto doesn't really
happen until You what is it September October?
So I think that's a big reason why that happens
is because people will save their films for those
festivals that are really well respected So I
think that leads to that happening and also it's
because unfortunately Hollywood is a very short
-term memory and They really skip out on films
that happen in early of the year. Like you mentioned
It's really a travesty because there are movies
that come out really early in the year at times
that do deserve Oscar nomination or Oscar Respect
in some way maybe not best pitcher or at least
some in regards to technical awards We had a
few I mean few last year piece of the southern
wild came out during the summer But overall it
usually is like if you're you have to come out
like they're keep pushing it like you're have
to come out with the last weekend of the year
or so nobody can I hope this movie does good.
I know not all of his movies have gotten a lot
of critical acclaim outside of Moulin Rouge,
but I just think he's a fantastic director, so
I have high hopes on this one. What about you,
Mike? It's not really anything I'm that interested
in. And neither is the Tyler Perry movie. It's
just, it's one of those things where I just,
like you guys said, for me, it's probably gonna
be, oh, I'll catch it whenever it hits Netflix
or something, but it's not. Like for me, going
to the theater, it has to be an Iron Man, it
has to be a Star Trek, it has to be a Star Wars,
something big and huge, and this just isn't that
for me at all. Fair enough. I have no comment
because I don't care about this particular week.
You do care about the next one though. Oh yes.
Star Trek Into Darkness. Yes, Into Darkness.
This... This is the movie I've been waiting for
for the entire year. This... I'm... I'm loving
what JJ Abrams is doing with the film franchise
since he's rebooted it. I'm loving that they're
keeping all the actors and everything again and
the directions they're taking it in. I'm still
wondering who the main villain is even though
they gave him kind of a corny name just to kind
of shut people up. I've seen the Enterprise crash
in the trailer. I'm wondering what they're doing
with this. Lot of questions have been raised
and I'm waiting for a possible another trailer
which I think there will be another one before
too long, but This is the movie I've been waiting
for all year. I love Star Trek and this JJ Abrams
has managed to turn this series around not only
to make it profitable Unlike you know, he's managed
to break the the number Ratings, but he's also
managed to make it so that people the general
population That don't like Star Trek will watch
it Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to this
I absolutely love the first one. I love JJ Abrams
so far and Love the casting for this You know
for all the crew and a lot of mystery going into
this one And that makes it even that much more
enticing as far as wanting to see it. I'll see
this one probably within the first couple of
days it comes out. For me, most of the ones that
I'm going to see in theaters, if I can, I will
most likely see them on opening day because I
normally just go to matinees. For Star Trek Into
Darkness, I'm really excited about this. I love
the first film that JJ did. And of course, now
he is the next George Lucas. Oh Stop it But no,
I mean what like you guys said with the whole
you know, keeping pretty much all the same cast
and everything else in the story and I and I
think what they're doing Star Trek and Iron Man
are doing the pretty much the same thing They've
released teasers and they've hinted and hinted
and hinted and hinted and hinted And as we already
said, Iron Man 3 just released the main theatrical
trailer. And I think that's what Star Trek is
going to do probably middle of April, maybe,
maybe early April. It might even be in front
of G .I. Joe. I don't know. But I think that
they will release a full on, whatever it is,
two, two and a half minute theatrical trailer
at some point giving us more info and showing
us more as far as what... The hell is gonna happen
as we head into darkness. By the way, that movie
poster is epic. It is, yes. I love how they did
that. Yeah, that's awesome. Dan, thoughts? I'll
continue what you guys were saying, and I guess
the only thing I'll add is what really has me
excited, I'm not a big Star Trek fan and... Steve
you mentioned how it gets those who aren't really
into Star Trek into Star Trek and I completely
agree with that because I've never watched a
Star Trek movie Before seeing the first one the
first JJ Abrams Star Trek and it really got me
interested into that world And what what even
has me more interested in into the darkness is
Benedict Cumberbatch is the villain who is freaking
amazing I don't know if you any of you guys watch
the Sherlock series the BBC series, but he The
best Sherlock he's freaking awesome. He's such
a great actor That Sherlock series is the Sherlock
series It's hard that there's so much better
than the American version like I think it's called
elementary or something like that. Yeah, that
looks terrible elementary, but that if Yeah,
I would definitely advise checking that out because
I think if you're at all excited for it It gets
it'll only increase because you see how great
he is and he can heat So that makes me really
excited for it. And I honestly hope they don't
give us more information about it. And JJ Abrams
is one of the few people in Hollywood today that
is really great at still creating mystery with
his movies. And we don't get information overload.
And we walk in, we don't know everything that's
going to happen. And I think I'd rather have
that. I'd rather not know exactly what's going
to happen. So I wouldn't be surprised if we don't
get another trailer if that's it and I'd be completely
okay with it Because I'm gonna go see it. So
I don't really need any more information about
it I just want it. I just want it to be May 15
so I can go see it So Moving on to the next week
we have of course nothing I pick Fast and the
Furious 6 and the Hangover Part 3. Alright, I'm
joking anyway. Hangover Part 3, I think it's
kind of jumped the shark. I mean, I know they're
changing the story up this time, but I don't
care this time. Fast and the Furious 6, I was
telling Mike this earlier when I talked to him.
Unlike many of the previous Fast and the Furious,
I think that they're actually doing something
good with this film compared to some of the previous
ones in the sense that it's... The the racing
of the cars, but it's with a heist, but they
put them together. So it makes a little bit more
sense than Just having the stupid car racing
like they had in the first like three or four
films so And then of course the the joining back
together the team. It's almost like an Ocean's
11 but with cars Right, so I'm I'm fine with
that. It actually looks halfway decent I can't
believe there are three fucking hangover movies,
oh my god, one was enough. That's all I have
to say about that. As far as Fast and Furious
6, starting with Fast and Furious, the fourth
film, that's where they start the thing of, hey,
Universal is like, this is pretty much the only
major film franchise we have right now, let's
turn it into something so it's not just... another
street racing movie so in fast four they they
kind of did that with the whole letty thing and
the whole drug running to Mexico and whatever
else and racing over the border and all that
and then five obviously now six I'm really looking
forward to this I want to see what these characters
are gonna do next I want to see how exactly they're
gonna explain away bringing letty back when they
said that she was dead in the fourth film and
Dom had all those flashbacks and everything else.
I don't know, what about you Kev? I know you
like the hangovers. No, I mean I love the first
hangover. The second one was okay. I didn't think
it was as good as the first one, obviously. So
if it follows suit, the third one's not going
to be as good as the second one. So we'll see.
I mean, I'll watch it at some point. I don't
know if I'll watch it in the theater unless someone
really wants to go. But I mean, I'll watch it
and at least give it a shot. The only thing I
wrote next to Fast and Furious 6 is please, God,
make it stop. I don't have anything good to say
about that franchise. I do want to say something
about Epic, though. To me that looks like it's
better gonna be better than the Croods as far
as animated movie goes It's from the people the
creators of Ice Age in Rio I Think I don't know.
I think it has a glimmer of hope. It's not the
animated movie. I'm most looking forward to this
year But I do think it has some potential So
for me that would I guess be the highlight of
that week All right, moving into June, I don't
care for anything on June 7th. What about you
guys? Anything interesting? You missed the purge.
Well. Boo. It's not on my list. Yeah, so. Jumping
into the first week of June we have on June 7th.
I think pretty much the only movie I. give a
rip about in this this particular week is the
internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson
and I think it's the first time they've been
in a film together since The Wedding Crashers
awesome yeah and you have John Goodman in it
and Will Ferrell and some other people they're
basically two old school salesmen and they find
themselves suddenly unemployed and pass by and
they try and reinvent themselves by becoming
interns at Google. It looks hilarious. I watched
the trailer and I showed some people in class
and they were just like, that is funny shit.
The Google people are playing pranks on them
because they're stupid and don't know any better.
They're like, yeah, the guy you want to talk
to because they're trying to figure out codes
and debugging stuff. And they're like, you're
going to want to go to this one university and
talk to Professor Xavier because they had a toy
of them on their desk. And then so they go and
find this guy in a wheelchair and start asking
him questions and get their ass beat by him.
And he says, yeah, there's cyclops over there
and storm. And then he punches them and rolls
away. But yeah, it was the trailer just it looks
funny. I think that's gonna be a good movie Yeah,
I think it looks pretty funny too. I think after
is probably gonna be a total flap but I'll watch
it because it's Will Smith and I'll watch any
of his movies To me the hidden gem here that
a lot of people probably just not even a pay
attention to at first is the now you see me movie
Think it looks intriguing. I think the whole
idea of People who are expert illusionists Create
using that tool to pull off heists or crimes
or whatever and then to continuously have all
this whole bag full of illusions that they can
use to You know elude people and to trick people
and whatnot. I just think it looks interesting
to me So I'm interested to see that one, too
I'll probably see all three of them at some point
actually from June 7th Hmm. Yeah, I agree. I
think now you see me looks I'm really curious
about that and how that's gonna kind of play
out It has a pretty strong cast too. I love Woody
Harrelson Jesse Eisenberg. He I mean he can be
he can be good at times and And instructed by
the guy who did the Incredible Hulk. He also
did the transporter one and two so it's something
different for him, so Obviously less action eats
more about like it seems like a crime film. So
I think that could be really cool After Earth,
like you mentioned with Will Smith, but I have
a feeling that he's not going to be in that movie
that much. It seems like it's really going to
be a vehicle for her son, Jalen, and that he's
going to be the main focus of that movie. I just
get that feeling. It being directed by M. Night
Shyamalan kind of makes me a little worried as
he's not done anything good in quite a long time.
And again, I agree, too, the intro tip does look
pretty funny, and I'm glad to see Owen Wilson
and Vince Vaughn teaming up again, since it's
been quite a while since the wedding crashers.
Mike, what are you looking forward to seeing?
Well, it happens in the later part of June, nothing
out of the seventh. The last two for June that
I'm looking forward to is Man of Steel and Monsters
University. Monsters University is a prequel
I Would have kind of liked to see a sequel to
Monsters Inc to see what would happen after Like
how is at the end of Monsters Inc? Obviously
they switch from frightening people to making
people laugh So I would like to have seen if
that kept up over time I think it's a decent
idea though for an animated film to do a Do a
prequel. Yeah, no, I agree and it looks cool
and it's gonna show the story of how Mike and
Sully met. I also think it's a genius idea to
have an animated films like in a college setting.
Yeah. Yeah. Like a university like that. I don't
know, that makes me interested more than just
a typical prequel or sequel. And finally, after
nearly 30 or 40 years, a good Superman movie.
You think? because returns just blue chunks.
But no, Man of Steel looks damn good. I know
that DC is trying their damnedest to get back
on track with their films and supposedly Justice
League is happening. There have been rumors everywhere.
I forget what the name of the stupid website
is, but there's a website out there, I'll have
to look at it later, but there's a website out
there spreading all kinds of rumors of Nolan
is now going to be in charge of all superhero
DC films and he's going to be executive producing
everything and blah blah blah. It's all rumor.
Nothing is true. Nothing has been confirmed.
I will say this though, if Justice League does
happen with the current DC universe as far as
the live action films are going, I would love
to see Christian Bale and Henry Cavill as Batman
and Superman in a Justice League movie. I think
that would be awesome. They've already shot down
Christian Bale's night. I know, I know, but I'm
just saying that if that ever did happen, I think
that would be pretty cool. I mean, I've never
been excited for anything that has Superman's
name attached to it. He's just not someone that
interests me at all. But this movie does have
me interested, so I will finally be anticipating
something that has to do with Superman. Alrighty,
man. Yeah, yeah, I agree I think it looks what
I was a little worried when I heard Zack Snyder
was gonna be directing Man of Steel because it
seemed based upon where DC went with you know,
the Batman franchise It seemed like the opposite
end based upon what Zack Snyder's directed in
the past But I the trailer to me that movie looks
absolutely gorgeous. It looks like it's like
Looks like the cinematography so much of that
are like three of life the way it's shot and
just like this the mood it's almost like otherworldly
and Superman's almost like a very much a god
-like figure. So I'm curious how that looks and
I I am honestly super excited for that movie.
It's probably the one I'm most excited for which
I never thought would happen but just the trailer
and it just has me really excited and also I'm
curious about this is the end. It's the Out of
the world comedy, but all the actors in it are
playing themselves So I think that does have
a potential to be really funny as it lets those
comedians kind of poke fun at themselves in their
own careers So otherwise, I probably wouldn't
be in that interested in it But having it played
in the real world at the end of the world setting
does have me interested Yeah, and that one again,
it's it's just one of those either gonna be a
lot of the comedies this year for me are either
going to be really good or just awful, awful.
And I think this one looks interesting. I can't
quite tell from the trailer, you know, what I
really feel about it, but I'm intrigued by it.
The other ones in June that I don't know. I guess
I'm not a zombie fan, but Brad Pitt going after
zombies. Maybe I'll watch World War Z at some
point. Isn't that supposedly his last movie?
Oh, I didn't hear that. I heard something about
a fire I Don't know but I thought thought it
was odd to see him in this type of picture But
I'll watch it. I think the heat is probably gonna
be a letdown That one another one the trailers
have killed it for me White house down seems
to be odd that you're gonna do that the same
time that we have the other White House movie
I know the the kick -ass tooth and that has multiple
dates flying around the internet I don't know
if that's a June release or if that's an August
release I think it's an August release because
it's been listed on both months, so I'm I'm wanting
to say it's an August release gotcha As far as
Brad Pitt goes he has one of the thing according
to Wikipedia that he's gonna be in called the
counselor That's in post -production and he's
gonna be a narrator on voyage of time, which
is a documentary this year Yeah, um regarding
world world see I don't know if any of you guys
read the book at all I did I'm not a huge zombie
fan. I I watched walking dead. I've read the
comics. I can I mean I enjoy The Night of the
Living Dead, the early films. That book was really
great because it used zombies as a framework
to really tell stories about society as a whole.
like it's not like a narrative in a way it's
all these separate stories all these separate
interviews of this gigantic war and it's not
really there's no one there's this one guy that
goes around the world interviewing all these
people getting their stories and how they went
through World War Z and I thought that'd be a
great idea for a movie but this is completely
different it's nothing like the book which is
fine I don't necessarily think that's gonna make
mean it's gonna be a bad movie but I don't know
I Think like like with the comedies that can
also be one that could be hit and miss it could
be really great or just be a total flop Yep,
so moving on to the final month of the night
we have July I Gotta go first. All right, go
ahead your go. I've been waiting for two years
for this Finally it is here Despicable me too
Easily easily easily the most anticipated animated
movie for me of the year I cannot wait to see
more grew and more minions if this does not win
Best animated feature. I know it was no chance
So okay so far out of these six months it has
if the Academy weren't such Stuck -up ass hats
with brooms up their butts Out of these six months,
this movie has the most potential out of all
the animated features that we've kind of talked
about tonight. The animated feature category
is the most easily predictable Oscar category
there is, and it will be Crudes or Epic. There's
no chance any other movie has. I would say...
You have a bigger chance for monster news versity
because they tend to go to Pixar before anything.
I don't I they barely very rarely award Dreamworks
outside of Toy Story The Toy Story sequels though.
I don't know if they've ever done a sequel or
two a sequel uh... despicable me to you know
this is so awesome yes i know i've said before
i hate street steve carell as an actor in general
but as a voice actor because i don't actually
have to see his stupid mug it's it's so much
better in the millions the menus are awesome
everyone needs millions millions versus probably
one of the best creation of of a set of characters
in in the kids universe in a long long time oh
yeah they're freaking hilarious and that trailer
oh my god the trailer he's gonna play golf off
his face that's another one that the trailer
really gave away nothing yeah it's it it well
it gave you the the minion comedy look that we
all know and love but you we have no idea who
the villains gonna be we have no idea what's
going on Grew at least in that first teaser trailer.
I don't know if there have been any new trailers
since then as far as the teaser goes but Grew
wasn't even in that first trailer. It was all
minions No, but it is said that that the minions
grew and the girls will all be back Well, right
says there's gonna be a host of new and outrageously
funny characters so you can only kind of guess
as to You know what that is gonna be. I'm trying
to say think that I read somewhere That I thought
I read who was gonna play the antagonist oh Al
Pacino Yeah, yeah Al Pacino plays the main the
main bad guy I guess so I mean, how does it get
any better than that? That's gonna be really
interesting cannot wait for Despicable Me 2.
Yeah, that's gonna be so awesome Any thoughts
on Despicable Me 2 Steve? I'm really looking
forward to it. I think the first film was really
good. I think the second film will be just as
good if not better Just because of for one everybody
that's in it and then like you guys said Al Pacino
being in it and everything so I That's one of
the instances I like Steve Carell stuff. I think
that they've got a pretty good Thing going there
with between the minions and then all of the
other characters and stuff going on Even as an
adult I find the minions humorous to watch They
are like I okay like I know they had the first
movie and they did like their series of shorts
or whatever And the things that were like available
on the DVD release or whatnot, right? Is it just
a matter of time before they have a TV show?
I'm surprised it hasn't happened already. I want
a minions TV series what they're getting their
own movie Well, I realize they're getting their
own movie But I would think would just be a natural
progression where they just do a TV series I
actually think it would have been better to do
a TV series than a movie I think if you would
have just left the despicable me as the as Series
as the movies and then you broke off the minions
into their own TV series. That would have been
a better way to go Yeah, I agree like they do
that with a penguins from Madagascar. Yeah, they
do and that cartoon series was amazing Still
going on isn't it? No, it's ended Yeah, it was
such a good show. It was it was awesome The other
one coming out on July 3rd is the Lone Ranger
Lone Ranger say Tonto, don't go to town. They're
gonna beat you up again, man I'm looking forward
to this one, but I'm going in with no expectations.
I Don't care. The only thing I'm really surprised
is is that it's a Johnny Depp movie without Tim
Burton directing No, it's Gore Brabinski. It's
the other guy he only directs with those are
the two people The kind of the fear of this movie
though is that that they haven't separated Johnny
Depp's Pirates character Enough from his Tonto
character Yeah, you can definitely see the essence
of it in there And I think a lot of people are
just gonna see like this is You know, which will
call it Jack Sparrow or whatever. Yeah in the
Lone Ranger setting I think it's great that they're
doing a Lone Ranger movie because it's long overdue
I just don't know if this is gonna work. I don't
know either, and it's not something I'll see
in theaters. I know that. Steve, thoughts? I
won't see it in theater. It looks interesting.
I'm not really sure how to take it. But I'd be
willing to give it a shot once it hits DVD. Dan?
I'm along the same line. I'm curious because
I like to see that like the fact that Arlie Ermey
they're not Arlie Ermey, but the guy from the
social network is Sorry, Arlie Hammer the guy
from the social network is the lead and I think
it's kind of his could be a breakout role for
him Gord from its key can do big films. He's
done the Pirates movies, but you can also get
too big at times So I'm in kind of gig lost in
his own mind. So again I'll go in with low expectations
like Kevin and hopefully be pleasantly surprised.
And then July 12th has one of Steve's favorite
franchises coming back for a sequel. Grown Ups
2. like pretty much anything with Adam Sandler
and being that I haven't seen anything crap come
from him since last year. Well, the directors,
Dennis Dugan, who's done various Adam Sandler
films, one of the screenwriters besides Adam
Sandler and Fred Wolf is Tim Hurley, who's done
a number of Adam Sandler's films. And then, of
course, you have the returning cast. plus more
of the Adam Sandler verse of characters. I'm
excited to see where they take this one and how
and why they come back together. I know it's
another summer type thing, but I also know that
it has some college kids and it's got some people
that are no longer on Disney Channel as well
on there being a pain in the ass. So, I think
it should be interesting. I'm pretty sure that
this one will be a good film because, I mean,
for one, I think this will mark the first time
that Adam Sandler and his production company,
well, second time that his production company,
but first time Adam Sandler's personally been
in one, a sequel to anything. He's never been
in a sequel. And this is actually the second
time that his company's produced a sequel, the
first being Deuce Bigelow. So this is the second
time for that, but I'm just I'm pretty optimistic
about this film. I'm pretty sure it'll be really
good Then you have Pacific Rim or as I want to
call it Transformers Prime Beast Hunters the
movie It's big robots against big giant beasts,
I think it's more taking itself from Classic
anime than it is taking itself from transformers.
Oh, I'm not saying that from that It's just it's
just funny that they're both like gonna be about
the same time Yeah, I mean it it does kind of
and he uses a lot a lot of the same sound effects
and the trailers that you do Seen tend to see
in the transformers movies. Mm -hmm I mean, it
looks like it's gonna have all the you know,
it's got some cool sci -fi stuff going on and
whatnot, but I don't know The biggest reason
why I'm interested in that movie is because it's
directed by Guillermo del Toro, who is a fanboy
director, but he's also an amazing director who's
created some fantastic films like Devil's Backbone,
Cronos, Pan's Labyrinth. He could be an arthouse
director and he has a great visual sense. But
he also is a fan of things like horror films,
he's a fan of things like anime, and he really
appreciates those... subject matters, and he
goes at them with a levelish fact other filmmakers
don't. I think he's also willing to have a lot
of fun with things. And I think Pacific Rim is
probably going to be a crazy film, like we mentioned,
just giant robots fighting giant monsters. And
if this was any other director, I'd probably
think it's ridiculous. But having someone like
him behind it does make me very interested. Michael,
you got a sec? Well, I was going to say when
I first saw the poster, I thought it was based
on Halo. Because it kind of has that helmet thing.
But it's not something I'll see in theaters,
if I see it at all. It's just not something that
interests me. I'd rather watch Transformers Prime
Beast Hunters. Alright, let's see. Anything else?
That week towards the end of the month. We have
the Wolverine. Yeah That's gonna be interesting
and then right before that we do have another
animated movie turbo. Oh Okay. Yeah turbo. It's
uh, I don't know. I'm not looking forward to
it as much as Despicable Me 2 DreamWorks film.
Yeah, but I don't know it does have I Don't know
Ryan Reynolds Paul Giamatti. Yeah Mean it's got
the cool idea of us, you know the snail and wanting
to be fast and whatnot But I don't know it looks
like it could be okay, but I'm not getting all
like excited for it by any means But I just wanted
to mention it since you know, there's only about
ten animated movies that come out a year so Yeah,
usually most of them are bad But the Wolverine
I know is a standalone film basically I just
don't get the plot concept It's it's based on
the comic and it's based on part of the animated
series he goes Into you know feudal Japan and
That's where he meets Yuriko. Yeah, and ends
up fighting with the red Omega red Omega red
and then the silver samurai and That's where
he learns a lot of his combat, too, of martial
arts kind of stuff. It's basically taking place
before he ever came into contact with Charles
Xavier. It's technically on its own, but it's
technically not. It's still technically between
Wolverine, The Origins, and then X -Men 1. Yeah.
Besides, one also didn't mention, really, July
19th. Mike I think it might be a great weekend
to go to the movies because you have turbo which
is voiced by Ryan Reynolds And there's also an
RAPD which also starts stars Ryan Reynolds. So
you can have You're fired. You're never gonna
be on any fucking podcast ever again I'm actually
kind of interested in RAPD. It's nothing's really
come out yet. But again also has Jeff Bridges
in that movie about like Kevin Bacon Hey, Kevin
Bacon. Yeah, so I'm that that could be good.
It's hard to tell because nothing's really come
out the Wolverine I was really looking forward
to that when Darren Aronofsky was supposed to
be directing it, but he backed out I think like
him directing a comic book movie would be great
But James Mangle took over who I also really
like him and he's done 310 to Yuma. He did walk
the line He's also did night and day which wasn't
very good. But I'm kind of glad that it's not
going to pay attention to the Wolverine origins
movie, which is one of the worst comic movies
ever. Yeah. And so and I think I like the like
the images that's come out regarding that film
so far, like the just the way they're having,
you know, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in in Japan.
It's a really it's one of the most classic Wolverine
stories. It's it's it's a key to his origin.
So hopefully it's it's good. I'm hoping but.
It's hard to tell at this point. Well, it's hard
to tell at this point because we don't even have
a teaser or anything yet. I'm assuming that possibly
because it's Marvel, once Iron Man 3 comes out,
there might be a teaser. I'm just speculating.
I don't know anything. I'm just saying that there
might be a teaser for it in front of Iron Man
3. I don't know. The rumor is that it won't come
out until it'll be tied with GIGO retaliation,
so... Oh, okay, well... If it's waiting that
long. Well, GIGO retaliation's only the end of
this month. In the final film that we're gonna
talk about or not talk about July 31st Anyone
really gonna spend money on this in the theater
out of the out of the four of us. That's a DVD
Okay, but like in the so none of I would not
waste my time. No, yeah Me neither. I have too
much going on to worry about shit like that.
Yeah, that's gonna become a naughty I'm just
I'm just waiting now for the the two smurf movies
to get porn versions of them You know the mental
image I do not want you know, it'll happen. Well,
that's Mike Dodd. He knows all about those porn
parodies Oh, that's an old inside joke. Oh, yes.
Which will be found in the ad break. Take it
away, Steve. Oh, man. Dark times, dark times.
Oh. So that rounds out our six month or seven
month kind of roundup from January to July. We
will again return with the August to December.
Roundup when it gets closer to that time probably
sometime in July. You'll have it come out But
yeah in the meantime Out of this entire mass
amount of movies that we've just discussed What
are your top five? most anticipated films overall
Kevin I just want to say like I'm definitely
interested in like Olympus has fallen the phantom
and dead men down But they're not gonna be my
top five. I think now you see me as a hidden
gem I think Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 will
be great But if I had to narrow it down to a
top five It would be 42 which is a Jackie Robinson
story despite what Dan says I think it's gonna
be a great movie I got Oz the great and powerful
The Great Gatsby, Star Trek Into Darkness, and
Despicable Me 2. It seems like it's gonna be
a rather slow first half of the year, but I did
get a top five. My number one, or I guess I'll
start at number five, would be RIPD. I'm just
curious about it. I didn't put it any higher
because there's not much out about it at this
point. Number four for me was Now You See Me.
Then Star Trek Into Darkness. Number three, number
two was Pacific Rim, and number one was Man of
Steel. Steve? Would have to go with out of the
mass collection of films that we've covered I
would have to say my number one film that I'm
looking forward to is Star Trek into darkness
My number two film is Iron Man 3 My number three
film is GI Joe retaliation my number four film
would be Oz the great and powerful and My number
five film which I'm kind of on... Well, no, I
was going to say I'm kind of thinking about Man
of Steel, but I'm going to go with Grown Ups
too. So that would be my top five. For me, it'll
be Fast and the Furious 6, Oz the Great and Powerful,
Retaliation, Into Darkness, and Iron Man 3. I
will also be seeing Man of Steel and Despicable
Me 2 and all that stuff as well, but But like
Iron Man 3 really has me like that's the one
I'm most looking forward to out of out of out
of everything in these six months So I think
that's it for the spring summer preview yeah,
I think so too and Overall I can't say that we've
had, you know, very many bad films, I mean, other
than April. I mean, there are a lot of good films
in there, but I'm kind of wondering, and, you
know, we'll get more into that in the next one,
of, you know, if anything can actually top our
top fives this time around. So, in the meantime,
everyone. I've been Steve Megatron Phillips,
and you guys have been TF2 and Mike, Muir of
Ultan, Optimus Solo. We'll catch you guys next
time on the future episode of this in July, and
in the meantime we have more of our countdowns.
Shut your face, motherfucker. Nineties flashback.
Yes, the nineties flashback. Keep those film
reels rolling. We'll talk to you later folks.
Peace off. There's greatness in you. But there's
not an ounce of humility. You think that you
can't make mistakes, but there's gonna come a
moment when you realize you're wrong about that.
And you're gonna get yourself and everyone under
your command killed. I think you're safe. You
are not. ain't saving itself nice he's actually
thinking about something a little more your size
It wasn't that hard to find you, Toretto. Wasn't
hiding. Last week, a team of highly coordinated
drivers took down an entire military convoy.
I've been chasing this crew across 12 countries.
This was taken a week ago. It's impossible. I
need your help, Dom. I need your team. Why do
I smell baby oil? You keep running your pie hole,
you're gonna smell nasty kicking. You got the
best crew in the world standing right in front
of you. Our target's Owen Shaw, former Spec Ops

in Europe, but it's the most recent job that
graduated them to a whole new level. The loss

us full pardons all the way around. It makes
you predictable. And our line of work, predictable

the lady we once knew is gone. It's not what
we do. this country. Things are different now.
I have to protect the one thing that I can't
live without. That's you. Mr. Stark. Today is
the first day of what's left of your life. A
choice. Do you want an empty life or a meaningful
death? You're not a man. You're nothing more
than a maniac. I'm not afraid of you. No politics
