Hello and welcome to MWIRE's 2012 movie preview.
Part two. I'm your host, Steve Megadron Phillips,
and joining me here in this adventure to the
theaters are... TfU and Mike. Optimus Solo. Movie
Revolt Dan. What's up, guys? Not much. Just waiting
for the rest of the films to come out for this
year. Just watching a lot of trailers. Yup. Yup.
I think we should use this intro to talk about,
not really to go in depth, but to talk about
what has happened so far this year. I don't know.
There's a lot of things I'm going to have to
catch up on on Redbox. My main picks for the
beginning part of the year was, obviously, Avengers,
Dark Knight Rises, Amazing Spider -Man. I also
did see Snow White and the Huntsman, a couple
other things. The rest of the year, I'm not too
sure about. I'm just not I mean, I know we're
gonna get into it, but I don't know what about
you Steve for the beginning of the year the beginning
of the year some of my movies that I wanted to
see were better than what I thought and other
ones were worse and then ones that I wasn't Too
keen on such as like spider -man. I actually
enjoyed so Have you had time to watch any movies?
Yeah, I've seen about, I'd say about 20 movies
so far this year. Some of them were ones that
probably technically were released in 2011. I'm
trying to think a little bit here. You know,
Contraband, Safe House, I saw 21 Jump Street,
all the comic book movies of course, Prometheus,
Brave, Ted, Born Legacy, Project X. So yeah,
I've seen that I've seen quite a few It's been
an interesting year so far I'd say as far as
the first half of the year if I was to pick like
Which movie I was most impressed with for the
first half of 2012. It would probably actually
have to be Avengers Dan what about you or your
thoughts on the first half of the year? Okay.
Well, um a few weeks ago I did My top ten of
the year so far that's on the website and that's
pretty much stayed consistent I've seen a few
more films that I've that I've enjoyed Like I
just saw born born legacy, which was enjoyable.
I watched Bernie with Jack Black, which is a
which I thought was really pleasant surprise,
which I thought was a really good movie So seen
about 50 million seconds come out this year so
far Some other ones that kind of I'm actually
just going through my head right now trying to
think There's this movie called the hunter with
Willem Dafoe, which is pretty good. It's actually
available now online. I think it's on Netflix.
That's worth You know, if you have Netflix, it's
worth a watch some other But yeah, and I agree.
I think still that my favorite film of the year
so far is the Avengers The it's very just before
we get into the second half of the year I don't
know if I've ever remembered a year in recent
history that The first half and the second half
are going to be so dramatically different. Yeah,
as far as the types of movies that are being
released, it's going to be like night and day
to me as far as the ones that I've been interested
in. I mean, the first half, there was a lot of
well known comic book movies. There was I don't
know. It was just like there's some interesting,
unique stuff coming in the second half that is
completely different than what we saw in the
first half. Can you, just off the top of your
head, Kevin, list me some rom -coms? Because
it doesn't seem like romantic comedies were a
big prevalence this year. I'm trying to think
if I've even seen any yet this year. I mean,
I guess Ted could... Not a rom -com in the true
sense of the word, but I guess that could almost
be considered partially. Yeah, I don't think
I saw any this year so far. Yeah, I don't know.
It just seems like between Avengers, Amazing
Spider -Man, Dark Knight Rises, Expendables 2,
even though everyone hates it. Well, I was going
to say even though everyone hates it, Born Legacy.
I didn't hate it. If you're looking for rom -coms,
there's actually one really good one that came
out. got buried i think in the beginning of the
year was which was friends with kids it's actually
uh... really good uh... sequel the friends with
benefits no it's more like it's more like the
sequel to bridesmaids in the way because i have
a lot of it it's not at all but a lot of the
same characters john ham uh... chris and steward
me at the ham but it's sergeant scott it's a
pretty it's actually really good and there's
also uh... Take this walk which isn't really
comedy, but yeah, but you're right there It really
hasn't been this has been the year of comedy
It's really been kind of few that we talked about
when we did this You know the spring and summer
preview the few that I remember looking forward
to I Must have missed them or they got buried
by all of the big epic movies Because I don't
even remember them being in the theater. I'm
like did I miss them? I don't have to wait for
them on Netflix now red box. Where do I get to
see these movies? So I'll have to go back to
our list and get the titles and try to look them
up or something. I know too that you mentioned
that I still have yet to see that I want to see.
Hopefully I'll be able to do that in the next
couple months or so. Contraband and Safe House.
Everyone knows I am by no means a Ryan Reynolds
fan. That was a great movie. I'm not a fan of
his comedy because every time he tries to do
comedy the only thing I can think of is Van Wilder,
but I do like him in more serious roles. So I
am absolutely looking forward to seeing Safe
House and Contraband looked really cool as well.
So yeah, I think with that we'll just get straight
into what's coming up for the rest of 2012 before
the world ends. My dear Frodo. You asked me once
if I had told you everything there was to know
about my adventures. Well, I can honestly say
I have told you the truth. I may not have told
you all of it. Bilbo Baggins. I'm looking for
someone to share in an adventure. I can't just
go running off into the blue. I am a Baggins...
Wait! ...of Bag End. Bilbo, allow me to introduce
Phoebe, Phoebe, or Non. Darling, darling. And
the leader of our company, Thorin Oakenshield.
The pines were roaring on the height The winds
were moaning in the night The fire was red, it
flaming spread The trees like torches I cannot
guarantee his safety. Understood. Nor will I
be responsible for his fate. You'll have a tale
or two to tell when you come back. Did you promise
that I will come back? No. And if you do, you
will not be the same. My name is Bilbo Baggins.
Bagginses. What is a Bagginses? He's powerful
enough to change the balance of the world. Imagine
what five tons would do. You're gonna need more
men if you expect to get out here alive. I'm
back. You can't let the contents of that safe
fall into the wrong hands. What's the plan? Track
him, find him, kill him. bigger than this car.
It's passing at one percent its normal speed.
If we play this right, we can take the whole
city. Peace Trees is the manufacturing base for
all the slow -mo in Mega City 1. You know how
often we get a judge up in Peace Trees? Where
you got one now? She has control of everything.
Levels 1 to 200. This is Mama. Somewhere in this
block are two judges. That's not good. I want
him dead. We're gonna have to go through him.
Rookie, you ready? You look ready. Three months
ago you lost the drive containing the identity
of every agent embedded in terrorist organizations
across the globe. 007 reporting for duty. Where
the hell have you been? Enjoying death. I only
have one question. Why not stay dead? There's
no shame in saying you've lost a step. Welcome
to the new MI6. I'm your quartermaster. You must
be joking. All for PPKS 9mm short. It's been
coded to your palm print so only you can fire
it. Less of a random killing machine, more of
a personal statement. Cube 007. I want to meet
your employer. How much do you know about fear?
All there is. Well, not like this. Just look
at you, chasing spies. England and my six. She
sent you after me, knowing you're not ready,
knowing you would likely die. Mommy was very
bad. The two survivors, this is what she made
us. Everybody needs a hobby. So what's yours?
Resurrection. I've been doing this. It starts
to feel hard to love your job when no one else
seems to like you for doing it. It sure must
be nice being the good guy. Nice share, Ralph.
As fellow bad guys, we've all felt what you're
feeling. I'm Zangief. I'm bad guy. Hi, Zangief.
Ralph, you are bad guy. But this does not mean
you're bad. Guy? Zombie! Bad guy! Hi Zombie!
Hi Zombie. Zen keeps saying labels not make you
happy. Good! Bad! You must love you. I don't
want to be the bad guy anymore. Well, abandoned
his game. Where's the rectangle guy? Welcome
to Game Central Station. Trains for all game
destinations now boarding. Everything changes.
Now. Where's Ralph? Stand by. My cupidese is
a little rusty. Ralph's gone to hero's duty?
Get out of this game, buddy! Ralph? You're game
jumping? What's your name? Freakin' Ralph. Why
are your hands so freakishly big? I don't know.
Why are you so freakishly annoying? All right,
so we hope you enjoyed those five trailers which
were pretty much all my choices. I did include
two that I'm really not that, sadly, one I'm
not really interested in, but we'll get to that
when we get to it. Kevin, take it away for August
releases. Yeah, the whole podcast today is going
to August through the end of the year. Now, obviously,
we are most of the way through August, so some
of these are already out, or we may have even
already seen. But we're still going to pick it
up at the beginning of August. kind of said in
the first time or the last couple times we've
done movie previews, we're mainly just talking
about the ones that are wide releases. We're
not saying anything bad about the limited releases
or the independent films or stuff like that.
We're just not covering them in this show because
we already have about 60 movies to talk about.
Right, exactly. Before you take it away, I will
say something about the limited releases or the
independent films. A lot of independent films
don't grab me. I don't know if it was an independent
film, but I was really excited for Drive when
it came out earlier. And I just, when I saw it,
I was like, God, this movie is so boring. And
a lot of the limited releases, it says it right
in the name, limited release. I mean, yes, it's
going to get to DVD eventually, but if we don't
have access to it, we're not going to talk about
it. So take it away with the August releases,
sir. All right. The first one we had on August
3rd would be Total Recall, obviously a remake
of the old Arnold Schwarzenegger film. Now, Dan,
have you seen this? Have not I I had interest
but I just one of those things I just kind of
I chose between that and born legacy and I went
with foreign legacy I actually did the exact
same thing my buddy and I were making the choice
between total recall and born legacy and we went
and saw born legacy instead I do you guys regret
that choice. No, no, I I like all the born movies
Yeah, even I didn't I didn't love the born legacy.
I enjoyed it but I My interest in Tour de Recall
wasn't that great and from what I hear isn't
that great of a movie. I think it's something
I can wait for DVD to watch. Yeah, it's like
it's something you can wait for Netflix, Redbox,
DVD, something like that. It's I will watch it
just because I want to see how they change things
and what they did with the movie. But, you know,
it's an interesting thing, but was it necessary
to remake? I don't think so. Some some of the
remakes I get some of whom I understand like
I get the fact that the 80s kids are Adults that
have kids and they're trying to you know, the
certain times they're trying to play to that
But some of these are real stretches Especially
with some of the another couple that will have
come up later on and then August 8th, we had
Hope Springs and Nitro circus the movie 3d If
anybody wants to chime in on on those two, um,
I don't I haven't seen either nitro circus The
movie 3d looked like basically jackass right
kind of the same type of thing hope springs I
believe that's with like meryl streep and it's
kind of tommy lee jones steve carell Yeah, I
I didn't see it. I have a passing interest. But
again, it's not something it's not one of the
films that you're gonna be like Oh, I can't wait
to go see that in theater. It's one of the one
that I think you think you can definitely wait
on Right steve any thoughts? haven't seen anything
this month however I am still looking forward
to Total Recall despite the fact that I've heard
nothing but bad things about it it's still something
it's like a guilty pleasure you still have to
watch it at some point well yeah I mean the Arnold
one is always gonna be my favorite but I'm gonna
like the updates done to it with modern technology
I love the boring films, so I'm going to see
the boring legacy eventually. Actually, I did
see a movie. I saw the campaign. That movie was
actually hilarious. See, I've heard that from
a couple of people, and it's just something that
maybe the previews do not do it justice. They
don't. Because it's got some really funny people,
and then the previews do not look funny at all.
But everybody that's seen it has said it's hilarious.
Well, have you seen like... for instance like
trading places and Well, they have the two old
entrepreneur Guys in this in the form of You
have Dan Aykroyd and you have the guy from third
rock from the Sun. Mm -hmm the old guy They are
supposed to be brothers and it's kind of reminiscent
of those brothers that were investors in that
movie and they're Pitting the two guys kind of
against each other because it's basically who
has lower moral scale Gotcha and But it's it's
like a thing with China and in business and everything
So it's it's it's kind of a back -and -forth
thing through the entire movie of them bashing
each other I'm gonna give it a chance more extreme
ways than the previous guy. So it's actually
pretty damn funny And since you're not the only
person that said that I probably will watch it
at some point I was just I couldn't get past
the previews at first and Yeah, I was I turned
my nose down at the previews as well And there's
been a couple like that where the previews a
couple comedies lately that the previews just
make them look You know comedies are so hit -and
-miss and a lot of it can be judged by the previews
usually so that's kind of Sometimes the the kiss
of death for some of these movies then we had
the odd life of timothy green that just let me
let me just a bit here um i i'm all for people
giving stuff a negative review and people are
entitled to their opinions but i i have to see
the born legacy for myself before i take anyone's
word that it's a bad movie Hadn't heard that
from anybody you're the this is the first time
I've heard that people were given it Maybe I've
just been out of the end and gave it two stars
on on the site So I gave it two and a half star
still I've heard both from I've read Dan's review
and I've also heard from the the Canadian crew
over at this week in geek and but they don't
count well, right, but they didn't like it that
I think the what the Born Legacy's problem is,
and I don't think this is a spoiler, if it is,
you guys that haven't seen it can cover your
ears. It takes place at the exact same time and
continuity as Ultimatum did. So as Ultimatum
is going along, Born Legacy is going along. I
think that even though I haven't seen it yet,
I... believe I'm OK to make this opinion. I think
if they had set legacies, say, 10 years, hell,
even five years after ultimatum, it would have
been better to be able to tell a true Aaron Cross
story. See, I think that's the magic of this,
though. I think that's the. That's the cool part
of what they're doing is that they're intermixing
the two storylines, that they're both coexisting,
that you're moving on with the movie without
the established star, yet he's still part of
the story. He's going to come back and be a bigger
part of the story. And I like all the blending
and the mixing that they're doing with it. And
to me, it's more unique than the standard issue
of we're going to go back 10 years or we're going
to go forward 10 years. Well, I can see that
as well. And I think that Hopefully we don't
know this for sure. You know one way or the other
hopefully and if they do future -born films that
Damon like Well, it's already been stated. I
don't unless they went back on that It was already
stated from the get -go that he was event that
they both were gonna appear in a movie together
Oh, that would be so awesome down. That would
be great as far as Hope Springs Hope Springs
to me is your traditional, and I don't mean to
insult these stars, but your traditional old
world stars in Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep
of having them do some sort of old couple romantic
comedy type of, honestly it reminds me of, what
was it? John Cusack, Diane Lane film. Must Love
Dogs. That's what it reminds me of. Total Recall.
I know my geek credit is gonna get cut up for
this. I don't remember seeing the original as
a kid. At all. And I have not seen it since then,
so... Or I've actually probably never seen it
at this point. So I'll probably go back and watch
the first one first and then catch the reboot.
The campaign, the trailers, just... I know I
get grief for the trailers, but you guys already
said the trailers don't do it justice. I just,
maybe eventually if it hits Netflix. To kind
of continue on here, The Odd Life of Timothy
Green, I've seen so many, so many spots for this
on Disney Channel. Again, it's something I'm
gonna have to come down, come back to in a few
years after the hype has died down. I really
have lost interest in Jennifer Garner as an actress.
Don't know if it's just the movie she's choosing
or if it's her acting ability I'm not saying
she's a bad actress, but for some reason I just
can't get into the movies that she's been in
and I liked her in the beginning like when she
was first You know kind of busting on the seams
and everything This one I Don't know it reminds
me of The other movie that came out quite a few
years back now, I guess with the Another kid
another young boy. What was the name of that
movie? I want to say it started with an A, but
I don't know, it reminds me of stuff that's been
done before and it just has a little bit of a
different twist now as far as using a kid to
bring people back to what's important and to
teach them a lesson, which there's nothing wrong
with that. People need to see it. I just, I don't
need to see it. Any other thoughts on life at
Timothy Green Dan or or or Steve? I have no comment
on that one Yeah, it just looks like you know
your typical Disney movie type of family film
that you know It'll be forgotten kind of just
recycled and forgotten and then I recycle again
with a different title and a different different
characters And I'm kind of stealing Kevin's thunder
here, but August 17th the new action franchise
the Expendables 2 I have not seen the first one
I Want to I want to see both of them obviously
you go into that movie like that with absolutely
zero expectations But I just love the fact that
they're putting all these guys together and that
they've added Jean -Claude Van Damme and Arnold
Schwarzenegger I believe those are the main two
that they added was Chuck Norris in the first
one No, he wouldn't. They added a ton of people.
The only thing that would be better than this,
the only way that it would be better than to
just add all of those action stars would be to
have a movie where they're all playing the actual
parts that they were famous for. Like, I want
a movie that has Bruce Willis playing the die
-hard character, has Mel Gibson playing the lethal
weapon character, or Rambo, or the actual characters
in there. But this is cool. It's funny. I don't
know. It's almost like a spoof on all the remakes
or something. Expendables 1 is on Netflix just
for your information. There's also a making of
Expendables on there as well. They're going to
run out of people to add if they want to keep
going with this. No, the next one they're going
to add, they're talking about adding Clint Eastwood
and they've already, I think, got Nicolas Cage.
What about, who's the guy that Steven Seagal
should be in? Or is he? Yeah. He's in it. No,
there was somebody else I was thinking of, too,
that I was like, oh, they could add him. But
yeah, it's just funny that they got all these
people together. Dan, any thoughts on Expendables
2? I enjoyed the first Expendables. Like you
mentioned, it is what you get. It's like, you
know, coming into it, it's like the Avengers
for old people, basically, with all the different
characters and Sylvester Stallone. But I do like
I do like how they kind of mix it up because
they throw like Jason Statham and Jet League
B in there as well. So that's pretty cool and
Statham was in the first one as well. Yeah I'm
just just how they have a mixture and then then
they have think Chris Hensworth's brothers and
the expendable was too Yeah, I believe and you
know Arnold's back and it's kind of interesting.
I think we're kind of They're Arnold and torture
nigger both have two new films coming out next
year So I'm curious if like we'll kind of get
a throwback to old 80s action movies if this
will kind of You know spring load that happening
because it's I mean they seem to be rather popular.
They're not Overly not killing at the box office,
but I think it they're very talkable movies and
they're ones like people you just have fun with
so We have our next In the end of all the first
one for today as far as animated goes paranormal.
It's a comedy thriller So to speak I guess if
you want to talk about that about a town that
becomes under siege by the undead and Just this
local boy Norman has the ability to speak with
the dead and he's trying to prevent the destruction
of the town from this curse From universal and
focus features. I'm not excited about this one
at all There are a couple animated movies that
I will bring up later that I'm excited about
this just doesn't have to be one of them For
me as I sit over in the GCR TV preview episode.
I'm so sick of this genre. Doesn't matter if
it's animated, doesn't matter if it's live, I'm
so sick of zombie, ghost, I see dead people,
I hear dead people, I'm just so sick of this.
I won't see this at all. Dan? Like stop -motion
animation and this has kind of been a weird year
because it's been like three major films that
came out with stop -motion animation But what
I don't like about like the new stop -motion
is how it's so like lost over and it's like it's
kind of blended into CGI like you can't even
tell Any more that it is stop -motion and then
like the paranormal is like the perfect example
It's just like if you work if you didn't know
you probably would just see which is a CGI film
But again, I'm not super interested in it. Like
you mentioned just like the same type of you
know Voices it's like six cents, but more cartoony
and you know animated The other one that comes
out the same day as expendables and paranormal
is Sparkle which Features of course the late
Whitney Houston. This was her last thing wasn't
it? Yes, I believe so Yeah, so this will have
all kinds of hype and media attention And will
be annoying It'll be a red box rental. It's got
Jordan Sparks as the main director. Yeah. Yeah.
It's actually a remake of like a like I think
a 1976 film. Yeah. But I mean, I'm sure there'll
be a lot of hoopla about it, but that will probably
actually turn me off more towards. I mean, I
wasn't going to probably watch it anyways, but
I'll probably just get sick of hearing about
it and come in the next week or so. Bradley Cooper
is in a million movies this year. Yes, he is.
I don't know how he does it all. And his first
one's August. He's limitless. His first one just
came out as far as the ones that we're talking
about. It just recently came out called Hit and
Run. Dan, you want to start off on that one?
You have any thoughts about Hit and Run? Hit
-and -run actually I was listening to a podcast
earlier this week with Dak Shepard He was like
the star of that and basically the point of that
movie is like they kind of wanted to get back
to the old like comedy chase films like cannonball
run and those type of movies where it's like,
you know You have a chase going on with all these
random characters and cameos and looking at that
trailer It does seem like what they're going
for but a little more raunchy, especially if
you watch the red band trailer It's interesting
that you know, I believe Dak Shepard and Kristen
Bell are actual an actual real couple. So that's
kind of interesting to see them on screen together.
And there's like random stars in that, like Tom
Arnold. I didn't know he was still alive. But
when I first saw like this description of it,
I'm like, oh, this looks kind of forgettable.
But the trailer actually looks like it could
be OK. And I don't think I'd go out in the theater
and see it, but I think it might actually be
maybe actually have some laughs in there somewhere.
It's something like when you're searching for
something to watch on a cold winter day or something
and you've already seen all the movies that come
out and you come across it, you're like, oh yeah,
I'll check this out. That's kind of how I feel
about it. It's nothing that I'm going to run
out and see. Steve, any thoughts on Hit and Run?
It sounds interesting. I've seen the trailer.
It looks funny, so I'm sure eventually I'll see
it. Then we have a couple on August 24th here
again ones that are actually Coming out as we're
speaking being released um the apparition I've
made my feelings clear about Supernatural thrillers
horror paranormal type yeah movies, so I don't
have any comments on that one, but maybe you
guys do I don't then It looks kind of bland and
like the same thing. Again, it's just a lot of
that genre kind of gets bogged down with the
same type of, you know, checklists and same type
of different techniques. It's all kind of, you
know, it gets really repetitive to the point
and then they're cheap movies to make and they
usually do well because people like to go to
the movies and get scared. So we get so much
of them, especially the closer we get to October.
Yeah, it's like you can't take any of them necessarily
serious. They have their day in the sun and then
you never hear about them again. um and then
did you have any thoughts on the apparition no
i i don't care for any of those fake ghosty ghost
movies kind of like paranormal activity which
is complete garbage yes and then we get the interesting
i can the trailer for this just makes me laugh
every time i see it um premium rush uh not only
does um Bradley Cooper have a ton of movies Joseph
Gordon -Levitt has a ton of movies. Yeah, he
is definitely enjoying his time right now and
Yeah, the the bike chase That's all I can think
about when I see the hear anything about this
movie is Joseph Gordon -Levitt We've we didn't
want to do a car chase. So now we are on bicycle
You know the first thing I thought of my when
I saw the trailer I'm like hmm put him in a cop
uniform and it's Pacific blue all over again
And I love that TV show Pacific Blue. I don't
know. It seems to me that this is a... I don't
even know if it's a cross. It reminds me of...
Reminds me of Phone Booth or whatever that one
was. Yeah, it reminds me. It's probably a cross
between Phone Booth and Enemy of the State only
because the kid that got killed on the bike in
Enemy of the State, it was a bike chase in the
middle of the streets. I don't know. This is
not something I will see in a theater. I like
Joseph Gordon -Levitt and I'll see most of his
movies and I'll give him a chance, but this to
me just, I can't wrap my head around getting
interested in this one. It might be good, but
he's on a bike. Anybody else have any thoughts
about Premium Rush? It feels like the people
who did that movie were obligated by some contractual
reasoning. Sometimes it's like, I don't know,
it seems weird that Joseph Gordon -Levitt...
Levitt would be in that and I think really Yoda's
in it's just it's a random combination of people
and it's just I don't know it just seems like
one of those movies people they had to make a
movie for the studio they're like oh I guess
I'll sign up for this one yeah just I don't know
I have no words for premium rush nope lolis though
I am definitely gonna see this at some point
even though the poster for it looks like the
most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in my life
If you see the one poster with Shia Laveau Oh
The two guns across making an X with his hands
with the guns pointed in both ways It looks like
a bad like male stripper porno type Poster to
me. I don't know. It just looks awful. It looks
you saving graces for this movie or Tom Hardy
and Gary Oldman Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
I am gonna watch it sometime. You know Kind of
like the epic gangster tale type thing. I like
those types of movies, so I will watch it. But
I'm not going to go in with expecting it to be
fantastic. And I'm hoping the nudity that is
involved in it is not shy. No, but it probably
is. OK, between August 24th and the 29th, between
Premium Rush and Lawless, we have three stars
from The Dark Knight Rises. Between the two movies.
You got Joseph Gordon -Levitt in Premium Rush,
and you got Oldman and Tom Hardy in Lawless.
That's true. That's interesting. They were done
with the other movie, they had time to start
their next one all at the same time. Well, I'm
not saying... I just find it really interesting
that, you know, after they complete that big
of a film that... I'm not saying they shouldn't
go back to work, obviously, but I'm just saying
I think it's interesting between two films that
come out with a week's time of each other. that
they have three stars from the biggest comic
book movie of the year. Well, maybe the biggest
comic book movie of the year. And then we round
off August with another horror film, The Possession.
No one cares. But in a way, to sum up August,
I know we're most of the way through it. To me,
this is the... Like the slow month out of the
group that we'll be talking about it was the
aftermath of all those big comic book you know
superhero movies before we get into the next
phase and it's kind of like a Besides born legacy.
There wasn't anything in this month that I was
like really looking forward to Mmm, Dan thoughts
on August Yeah, August is usually a dumping ground.
There's usually not much there last August There
was a few good like surprise hits like rides
of the planet of the apes But this year we really
didn't get that. I am actually really interested
in lawless I think it has a pretty strong cast
like we mentioned Tom Hardy Guy Pierce Shia LaBeouf
if you want to count him as well But besides
besides that yeah, it is kind of just like there's
not much. It's really weak It's kind of just
you know, I think this weekend in particular
is kind of like the One of the worst weekends
of the year, actually. Yeah. I know this probably
doesn't matter because it's not happening, but
Steve, do you think retaliation, if it went up
against expendables to it, would have been buried?
It would have held its own. It would have held
its own. They're two completely separate things.
I mean, yeah, they're both action movies, but
they're still completely different separate things
because... It could have easily come out this
weekend, though. Oh yeah, most definitely. But
no, there's that pesky 3D crap. Well, it's not
just that, it had to do with what's his name.
Bad audience tests, yeah. No, Duke. Well, yeah,
it was a combination of three things. Duke's
popularity, you know. Well, the fact he didn't
have enough screen time and they killed him off
early. Right, right. 3D, you know. I swear to
God they're gonna put him in a coma once it releases
in March. I would laugh. That'd be awesome. Anybody
else have thoughts on August? Steve? Overall,
it kind of, I mean, other than like Expendables
and the Bourne movie, it's a wannabe action month,
but it's kind of like blah. Yeah. Alright, then
I guess we can move on into September. There's
not a ton. coming out in September, but there
are some interesting ones along the way. And
this is when I think it starts to get interesting
as far as some unique ideas for films. We're
not just getting your remakes, your sequels,
your, you know, whatever retellings of different
stories that we've heard before. We start to
get some very unique ideas. And that starts with
September 7th, which is one that i'm really looking
forward to maybe not everybody else but there's
one called the words bradley cooper ding ding
ding is bradley cooper again um this one just
really really looks interesting to me um you
got jeremy irons and dennis quaid in there as
well as zoe uh saldana who is phenomenal um You
know, you have a crush on her. Yes. And I just
think there's a lot of layers to this. The whole
story about this guy who needs to publish something,
you know, he's sought after and he can't come
up with anything and then he uses someone else's
words and it kind of comes back to haunt him
in a way. And I just think there's a lot of story
here and it's something unique, something I haven't
seen before and I'm really looking forward to
it. Plus, I love the cast. I might get stoned
for saying this, but this... I know this is more
on the serious side, and I really do want to
see the words. It reminds me of Stranger Than
Fiction with Will Ferrell, honestly, a little
bit. Well, I mean, they're both about books,
but I think this one's going to have a lot more.
Right. This one's not a comedy. No. Oh, no. No,
but I'm just saying like the whole book angle
and that whole thing, it just kind of reminded
me of that. Dan, any thoughts on the words? I
think it could be really good. I think that movie
could be. one of the best movies of the year
or it could also be just overly melodramatic
depending on how they play it because sometimes
when you have like those types of stories where
you have two stories going the one that kind
of intertwine it can be you can make the main
story more powerful or it can just kind of hamper
all the drama but uh i'm bradley cooper is actually
kind of becoming a very respectable actor which
i never thought i would say but he's doing a
lot of different types of acting yeah He's one
of those guys that can do comedy. He can do drama
I mean, I haven't seen him do action, but he
seems like he might be even suitable for that
He used to do action. You saw the a -team didn't
you? Unfortunately, and he's limitless kind of
had a little bit in there too. Yeah. Yeah, that's
right Jeremy Irons could actually steal the show
on this one He looks like he's got a cool character
to play Jeremy Irons steals the show and anything
the only thing I'm slightly worried about is
that it has a PG -13 rating And It seems like
there's a little bit I thought there was gonna
be I don't know if I was just expecting a little
bit of more darker Tones to it. Maybe at some
point, but maybe they do it in a way that they
can still get that PG -13 rating So maybe it's
okay, but that just just a little hesitation
on that not Again comparing Cooper films wasn't
limitless PG -13 and that did a lot. No, I think
that was our Thinking of the one scene when he
is drinking a certain substance after someone
gets I'm just thinking of that. I'm thinking
that was when he was singing for the the whole
idea of it's suggestive as far as the addiction
or the almost No, no, I'm looking on Netflix
limitless is PG -13. That surprises me But yeah,
the words I'm definitely looking forward to me,
too Steve it looks like it'll be alright. I'm
I'm not into those kind of films, but it looks
alright The next one on the list I'm gonna let
you guys talk about because I'm just not into
these types of movies Which is Resident Evil?
Retribution on September 14th give it I'm gonna
see it, but I'm a fan of the I'm a fan of the
franchise I don't get into very many horror films,
but this is one that I like just because it's
a kind of an almost mindless shut your brain
off, just watch it and see things get blown up.
Granted, none of them in any sense of the word
kind of correlate between each other. Even though
they have some of - They don't correlate to the
games either. Well, they weren't meant to to
begin with because Alice isn't even in the games.
It's that's the only consistent character they
have random People that show up off and on throughout
the films or like the last film. I thought was
the best one out of all of them just Overall,
and they had some of like the prison break effects
to it. Well this one. I'm not sure what to think
Considering they still don't explain where the
hell some of these people disappeared to after
they ended the last film And they're not in this
one So it's kind of I don't know it's It's another
one of those ones that probably should die but
I Don't see it going anywhere Being that people
just like zombies at this point in time and people
like seeing things get blown the hell up So I
I will be seeing this Well, and I and I could
see how anybody that you know, that's a fan of
the series Should probably be excited for it.
I just never played the games I've never seen
any of the other movies So at this point it would
be silly to jump in midstream or towards the
end of the stream for me One thing about the
franchise of the Resident Evil franchise I always
found interesting is like the names of those
films are so interchangeable Like you could really
take the title from any film and put it on any
other film Just kind of throw whatever word they
want on there. It's like retribution apocalypse,
whatever It's just I my wife and I kind of have
a weird unhealthy relationship with this franchise
Like we end up somehow we find ourselves in the
theater watching it and we're like, how do we
get here? But Ended up mildly enjoying them.
I don't know it like it like Steve said it's
kind of a turn -your -brain -off type of movie
and it's kind of what I liked about the last
one was the 3d which I'm not a fan of but I like
when people use it as a gimmick and aren't really
serious with it and it's a movie that kind of
it realizes ridiculous and You can find some
enjoyment there. But uh it I'm surprised it keeps
going because it's like it's never -ending. What
is it like the sixth movie? I don't even know
anymore Fifth one. Wow. And then we get a foursome
of movies on September 21st. The one that we've
probably seen the most previews for is Dread
3D. And I remember sitting in the theater with
my buddy the first time this trailer came on
before we had ever seen it anywhere. And he knew
it immediately that it was a Dread movie. I don't
know if he was a fan of the original Judge Dread.
I've never seen that this is a sequel to that.
This is a it's it's more so a remake a retelling
of the story The original judge dread with Sylvester
Stallone and Diane Lane Also, Rob Schneider is
in it It almost looks like it's more suited for
nowadays time and visual effects than it was
back in the day. Right. I mean, the original
movie was kind of campy. It's set in the future.
The thing with the original Judge Dredd is, ever
since I was a teenager, I always loved getting
the movie novelization books before I saw the
movie, just because I wanted to read up on it.
And the movie novelization for Judge Dredd, the
Stallone movie, has so, it goes so much more
in depth into the backstory of Ollie Meyer. That's
one of the characters in it. And then it has
a lot of the same stuff that's in the film. I
think, what's his name? Carl. Oh God. Urban.
Yeah. Yeah. Carl Urban is an amazing. casting
choice for Judge Dredd if you're not going to
use Stallone. I know that the Stallone movie
had a lot of camp in it. It was kind of campy
and a lot of people didn't like it. I did enjoy
it. I thought it was kind of cool. I think this
one looks like it could be entertaining. I'm
looking forward to this one, actually. For me,
I actually equate this to... Punisher 2004 and
Punisher Warzone. Whereas Punisher 2004 wasn't
campy, but it was a serious movie, but it didn't
have as much violence as Warzone does. Whereas
Judge Dredd had a lot of camp in it, and this
one takes it more of a serious side, and I'm
really looking forward to it. Dan? Actually,
I'm actually quite looking forward to this as
well. I don't know if you guys saw a movie that
came out earlier this year, The Raid Redemption,
but the plot of Dread 3D is very similar. The
idea of being stuck in a building and having
to go up all these different floors is exactly
like The Raid Redemption. I'm not saying they
copied each other because they're coming out
at the same time, so it's nearly impossible.
The Dread comic book was always this raw comic
book that... You know even more so than like
a Batman and it's kind of getting kind of the
movie it deserves I would say The special effects
look kind of look really good the the slow -motion
cameras that they're using and Again, not a friend
of 3d, but this does seem like it's using it
very effectively So I'm not saying I'm gonna
see it in 3d, but if I had the choice, maybe
I would And then we also have end of watch coming
out on the same day. Now this is an interesting
one obviously because it's all shot with handheld
HD cameras of the police officers and everybody's
surveillance cameras so like visually it's going
to be a I mean it's not like the first movie
to do this or anything but it's going to have
an interesting look to it starring Jake Gyllenhaal
and Michael Pena also Anna Kendrick who's been
obviously doing a lot of stuff lately. The problem
with something like this to me is What is going
to separate this from your typical cop movie?
Yeah. Um, I know that they're here. Yeah. I mean,
I know they're in L .A. I know there's going
to be eventually there. They get accidentally
involved in like a organized crime type deal.
I don't know. All these movies start to blend
together for me. I think the one thing that could
separate it is is Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael
Pena, because they're both. Pretty quality actors
when I when I saw the trailer I didn't I'm like
this may I'm surprised it took them this long
to come up with the idea of Doing a found footage
cop film or something like it makes sense with
cops and all the other found footage movies that
we have but Again, it could just it looks I don't
know. It doesn't seem like it's getting that
much of a push It doesn't seem like there's that
much faith in it. So usually when that happens,
it's not a good sign So like it is interesting
to see Jake Gyllenhaal in that type of role though
For me because I always just don't I don't and
I look for him. I don't know it looks different
to me It feels different from him. I mean, maybe
he's done stuff similar, but that's not how I
think of him. So I Don't know kind of expands
his Diversity for me Maybe I just haven't seen
movies that he's been like this before He was
he was in jarhead. I guess would be the only
thing I would see. Yeah, that's true But I don't
I don't know if he ever played like a cop per
se I don't know And then we have House at the
End of the Street, which is a horror slash thriller,
which I don't have any comments on. But the one
I'm looking forward to the most on that day would
be Trouble with the Curve. Clint Eastwood, John
Goodman, Justin Timberlake, Amy Adams. It doesn't
seem like it should be possible, but Clint Eastwood
is somehow like getting better the older he gets.
And he was already good to begin with. Yeah,
like he can't miss it seems like recently. And
now this one he's playing, you know, kind of
like a scout for a baseball scout that's having
problems with his vision, getting older, you
know, wanting to cash it in a similar character
to Gran Torino, I guess, in a little bit made
minor ways. This one just looks like it's going
to be good to me. I don't know. Maybe I'm. Do
you think this could be the next field of dreams?
No. No, I mean they're both baseball movies.
No No to me it has more things similar. I know
it just came out so it's easy to say that but
it has more It's more like moneyball in a way
Yeah, because it's him almost going the opposite
way where it's like almost like a response to
it where he's saying You know, you can't judge
everybody by the computers. You can't judge everybody
by the numbers You need the actual human factor.
You need the scout out there, you know Judging
instincts and personality and character So it's
almost more like that in the reverse Yeah, that's
that's funny that you say that because that's
the thing I wrote down was it's the anti moneyball
So it's kind of like the first thing I thought
of when I saw it But the funny thing is the same
people that love moneyball are gonna love this.
Yeah. Yeah, it's just like it's kind of like
the story that uh The backstory of the people
that are at that table that with my with Billy
Bean But it does have a really strong cast so
it could be quite good Anytime John Goodman shows
up. I gotta become interested. Yeah any thoughts
on Any of the ones from today that we haven't
September 21st releases that you haven't had
a chance to talk about The house at the end of
the street only reason I would have any interest
in that is because it has Jennifer Lawrence in
it and I think she's pretty fantastic but again
besides that it's it's kind of a running theme
another movie that's about some type of slasher
slash ghost slash something that isn't all that
interesting or all that creative so yeah and
then we follow it up then with The next week
of September, like I said, there's not a ton
of movies that seem to be wide release in September,
but we have another animated one, Hotel Transylvania.
Now I know this seems like it's still with the
whole, you know, undead and the monsters, but
this one I will give a better shake to than the
other ones that we've been talking about, Paranorman
and the one that we'll talk about coming up.
This one's directed by Tartakovsky. Dracula's
owner of a hotel, which is a five -star resort
for the world's monsters invite some animals
Samler Yeah, invite some of the most famous to
celebrate his daughter's 118th birthday and then
a human shows up and He's got to try to protect
his daughter from falling in love and like I
said the cast Adam Sandler Annie Sandberg Selena
Gomez Kevin James Fran Drescher Cee Lo Green
Steve Schemi Molly Shannon David Spade. So I
mean it's got a lot of Comic lot of Saturday
night live people in it. Yeah, I actually think
this one might be okay I'm not gonna run out
and see it in the theater. No, I'm not either
I will but I won't be opposed to be watching
it when it's on Netflix or something. Yeah Dan
thoughts on Hotel Transylvania I really don't
have a strong interest in it at all be honest
with you, but it could who knows it could be
good but Just it didn't it didn't catch my eye
I guess you'd say but maybe it's like those comedies
where it The trailers don't do it Justin and
it's a lot better than the trailer lights on
but for me it just Something I wasn't all that
interested in I like the idea of the concept
of kind of having all these different characters
in one location But I kind of wish like they
if you watch the trailer they indicate like oh
There's a human and trying to hide the fact that
you know, there's a human. I kind of wish that
was just about the monsters in a way, but it
could be an interesting dynamic, but I think
it would be kind of cool if it was just about
how these monsters get along. It's funny when
I was watching the trailer, I kind of had like
a throwback to like the DuckTales, because I
felt like there was like an episode of DuckTales
that had a similar idea where all the different
monsters showed up, but I could be forgetting.
I think it's going to be interesting to see how
this cast pulls it off as far as the voice cast
goes and, you know, if they're all just using
straight voices that they usually use or if they're
changing them up a little bit. I can't remember
the trailer too much, but... They change them
up a little bit. Yeah, and I'm an Adam Sandler
fan, so I'll definitely give it a shot at some
point. At some point, I will be seeing it anytime
soon. Steve, you're going to be running out to
the theater on that one, right? Oh, yeah. Excellent.
So you'll have to report back once you've seen
that one so I can know how soon I need to watch
it. Gotcha. It's carrying on like what I said
with the unique ideas. To me, this one's a unique
one. I'm not going to go in with huge expectations,
but I like the unique idea for it, which is Looper,
Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon -Levitt again.
And it's just interesting because there's time
travel involved and there's this kind of Idea
that he's out to kill himself This when I read
the plot synopsis the first thing I thought of
was oh, hey, it's the sequel to in time I I do
want to see it. I mean, I liked you know from
what I saw in the trailer and and whatever else
but as soon as I heard that flatten like wow,
this is It's very similar. It's not the same,
but it has the same similar thing about time
travel, whereas in time it was, oh, time is money,
whereas this is time is a black market commodity.
loop to go back in time and to get rid of people
when the mob wants him to get rid of. And the
idea is that they want to close that loop. So
that's why they've sent his future self back
to be killed by his. I mean, I'm sure there's
a little bit of confusion there as far as trying
to explain that. But I think it could be interesting.
Jeff Daniels also in there. Emily Blunt's in
there. So it's got a decent cast. Interesting
to see Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon -Levitt.
with each other there. I don't know. I'm gonna
go in with no expectations and I'll probably
enjoy it. Dan or Steve? I'm really looking forward
to that movie. I think it'll be really good.
I like, well first of all I like most movies
that Bruce Willis is in. I say most because he
has been in some pretty crappy ones as of late.
But I do like the time travel thing. It's kind
of a nice take. I'm looking forward to see how
they pull this off. For me, this is actually
probably my most anticipated movie we've talked
about so far Mainly because I'm a fan of the
director Ryan Johnson and he's only done two
films so far But his first film brick which was
actually with Joseph Gordon -Levitt, which was
really good It was basically this noir film that
took place during high school modern times But
it seems kind of like a gimmick, but it really
worked and then he also did brothers broom Which
is kind of like a caper like heist film in a
way. He's really good at getting a genre and
Picking out what's great about that genre So
i'm really curious what he does with science
fiction and him and ryan him and joseph gordon
levitt have a pretty good chemistry with one
another and I don't know if you noticed but in
the trailer Like they really they've did a lot
of makeup with joseph joseph gordon levitt to
kind of make him look like bruce willis You don't
notice that first, but if you pay close attention,
you can kind of see they've kind of Adjusted
his face a little bit. It's a little bit freaky,
but i'm actually really looking forward to looper.
It's one i'm definitely gonna see in theaters
Then the last one that we have for September
is called won't back down My note for this one
is Oprah and all her followers will like this
one And it's like the stand by me or lean on
me of this generation Maggie Gyllenhaal is rallying
the troops, you know, there's teacher, you know,
it's a Trying to create a charter type school
situation Fight the system type thing stand up
for the teacher. I mean, it's going to. Do well,
I would assume. But it's not going to be something
I'm going to run after. I will watch it eventually,
I guess. Yeah, the book back when I first I won't
back down I'm like, oh it's gonna be like an
MMA movie or like karate kid But it was not what
I expected It seems like a very like TV movie
like very like you mentioned like an Oprah book
club type of film It's just kind of I don't know
it could it's one of those that you get dragged
along with like your significant other somehow
and then like You're like trying to fight back
the tears at some point or something One of those
types of movies where you're like, oh god, I'm
actually getting into this movie or something
like that But yeah, it's something that someone
would have to drag me to probably Yeah, I probably
won't be seen won't back down At all overall
just kind of like final thoughts on September
for me the words in dread 3d are the two that
I'm really looking forward to Looper, I don't
think for me is a theatrical watch, but I will
definitely check it out once it hits Redbox or
Netflix. I'm interested in Looper, but the two
that I'm most interested in for this month would
be The Words and Trouble with the Curve with
Clint Eastwood. Just because I'm a huge baseball
fan, so I will love that movie no matter what,
but really The Words is the big one for me that
month. Steve? The only ones I'm looking forward
to from September are Resident Evil and then
Dread and then of course Hotel Transylvania and
Looper, so I've got four I'm looking forward
to Looper and Dread 3D and one I wanted to mention
really quickly It's limited release but the reason
I wanted to bring it up is by the end of the
year it's probably gonna be wide release and
you're probably gonna see it on a lot of top
10 and a lot of nominated A lot of Oscars is
The Master by Paul Thomas Anderson. It's the
movie basically that Tom Cruise doesn't want
you to see. It's about the history of Scientology
and has Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix.
Paul Thomas Anderson, he did There Will Be Blood,
Punch, Drunk, Love and Boogie Nights. So he's
a really good track record. He has a good track
record with Punch, Drunk, Love? I don't think
so. That was horrible. I love punch rock love.
It's a movie that you kind of have to understand
like what you have It's not your typical adam
sandler movie, and I think honestly, that's why
it's horrible exactly I will I will respectively
disagree, but there was never said There there
will be blood was one of the one of the best
movies of last decade uh for sure, um, and like
I mentioned even if if It's one that you're probably
gonna see at the end of a lot of the year It's
not everyone's cup of tea, but for a lot of people
they may enjoy it All right, then moving into
October carrying on my theme of not being able
to get into Jennifer Garner flicks Recently,
there is a film coming out October 5th along
with a lot of others actually on that day called
butter Highly competitive world of championship
butter carving It sounds like such an intriguing
movie that I don't want to even see Now I can
understand Alicia Silverstone having to do this
film because she's not in high demand. But is
Hugh Jackman this desperate? I think he knows
whoever it is in the production. Now there is
some sexual content, brief drug use, and it is
rated R, but I can't take that. I don't know.
I don't find myself laughing a lot in this. Maybe
it'll surprise me. I don't know but I don't think
I'll ever see it. So When I when I saw the trailer
I was kind of surprised it wasn't directed by
Christopher Guest because he tends to do a lot
of those, you know Monumentaries of like the
best in show and things like that where they
take a ridiculous concept like butter covering
They actually make it funny with ridiculous characters
and it kind of seems like that's what they're
shooting for it I think it's it's not getting
that because it Wants to be serious and be funny
and sometimes when you are talking about butter
covering I don't think there's anything you're
gonna do to make people take you seriously but
you know, like you mentioned it could be one
of those things that we talked about how comedy
isn't always greatly represented by their trailers,
but Another animated movie and this is my least
anticipated Animated film of the year Frank and
Weenie for one reason and that is Tim Burton
Well, all of his damn animated movies look the
same. Yeah, I will not watch any of them. Yeah,
I Have not been a fan of Tim Burton since 1989
Batman and Edward Scissorhands if he would have
stuck to all Live -action movies. He might have
been okay. But as soon as he started doing all
this crappy looking Animated slash whatever you
want to call it stuff. I just I cannot stand
that style Mm -hmm that uses and it's the same
in everything and it's just I can't get into
it So I will stay away from Frank and we need
and the stupid sounding title It's Dan what's
interesting about Frankie we need is actually
like he's a remake of his own short film Which
I've never seen but like you mentioned I feel
like Tim Burton He's kind of what was good about
Tim Burton when he started off with was that
her stories were unique and they were interesting
And now it seems to be he's just about making
things look nice or pretty or unique and weird
and there's nothing behind them and Also, I felt
like every movie I went to see this year I saw
the Frankie Wheatley trailer and it's just driving
me crazy and it's because it's like I felt it
is a short movie and like there's nothing more
I need to see I'm like that's and I don't I don't
know I just I have no interest and it just got
drilled in my head so much just by every time
I was in the theater it just seemed to pop up
and I'm just happy to see it out in theaters.
Hopefully the trailer won't be shown anymore.
I honestly think it's a wasted theater spot.
I think it could have just gone direct to DVD
and been fine. Just file it away and leave it
alone. Then we also have oranges coming out.
Somebody call Tropicana, because that's the best
ever. The oranges, excuse me. Now, this is an
interesting. I'm not going to be able to see
this movie because I cannot see anything that
Hugh Laurie is in. I can't stand him. So I won't
see this. But there is an interesting, I guess,
plot to it. It's a comedy slash drama where basically
the girl Falls instead of going for the successful
son of her neighbor ends up with her parents
best friend who is a lot older So there's the
whole age difference between the two and how
everybody's coping with that and dealing with
it So it probably is gonna be funny. I just cannot
stand you Laurie. So I will pass As I just said
somebody called Tropicana cuz that's the best
poster ever Tropicana needs to use that in their
Advertisement it's about to get juicy Anybody
else have thoughts on that? It I felt like we've
seen this movie so many times already just like
it's like the suburban family that has problems
and It I don't know it doesn't seem like we talked
about how horror can be kind of recycled. It
seems the same thing with this It's just a cycle
idea that can easily have just been like a TV
episode of some sitcom And then all these are
the same day Kind of the string here, we've had
a lot of musical type themed movies in the last
year, year and a half. Pitch Perfect joins that.
Anna Kendrick is the big name that jumps off
the page. There's been a lot of things throughout
the rest of the year. I mean, I don't know what
else I need to say about this besides this is
a movie for. I mean, the poster says get pitch
slapped. Yeah, it is it is basically glee the
movie it's What's a funny story about pitch perfect
that I was speaking of Anna Kendrick this movie
I think was made a while ago sat on shelves and
it's kind of coming out now because Anna Kendrick's
in Twilight movies and she was nominated for
an Oscar so some films are kind of they're kind
of waiting and then they're releasing them and
She was talking and people were mentioning this
movie and she was like so ashamed of that movie
It was like someone brought up like, you know
an embarrassing baby photo of her or something
She was just did not want to talk about it So
when leading star is kind of a doesn't want to
talk about the movie that she's in It's probably
not a good sign that it's gonna be any good Yeah,
the only interesting thing I will say about this
next movie besides that. I won't see it Besides
a sinister a supernatural thriller The cast is
very interesting. We have Vincent D 'Onofrio,
Fred Dalton Thompson, and Ethan freaking Hawk.
So you got two Law and Order alums and Ethan
Hawk. Nice. Where has Ethan Hawk been? I haven't
heard his name in a long time. Maybe I just missed
whatever he's been doing and maybe he has come
out with some movies lately, but he plays a...
True Crime novelist, discovers a box of mysterious
disturbing home movies that plunge his family
into a nightmarish experience of supernatural
horror. So I will not see it, but interesting
cast. Sinister is a frightening new thriller
from the producer of the Paranormal Activity
film. So technically this is Paranormal Activity
5. Not quite, but. What's funny, like I don't
know, when I'm watching horror movies now, I
was never a big horror film buff. There's some
good ones here and there, but Earlier this year
the cabin in the woods came out and there's this
interesting scene about like how there you know
There's always that moment where someone gets
into something and suddenly a monster's Unleashed
and they kind of make fun of that and spoof that
and and then like every Horror film that we've
gone through is doing that exact theme You know
this guy finds a box this person finds some a
movie reel It's just it always has to have some
random thing someone finds and then somehow there's
a monster released It's just like you doing whatever
you see if you don't own it don't go to Don't
open it. I guess I don't know. It just seems
to be like that common staple with all these
films The the next one scares me Only because
the first one was just good. The first one was
very good. Well done Liam Neeson Like let's put
it, you know, anytime you take Liam Neeson and
tell him just be a badass It usually works. Yeah,
but there's a sequel to taken Yeah, yeah taken
to where his daughter gets kidnapped again Well,
this time he and his wife get, or uh, Brian and
his wife are held hostage at one point too. So
Liam Neeson is actually being held at one point
and has to have Kim help them. So it's almost
like it flips it. I mean, I will watch it and
I will hope it doesn't like, suck, take away
from the first one. But okay, I guess we'll have
a second take and I suppose. Steve any thoughts
on these other ones from October 5th, yeah The
only one that's worth seeing is taken to yeah,
I'll agree with that for obvious reasons Dana
do you have thoughts on the sequel to taken?
It's supremely unnecessary like Remember when
I saw the trailer for taken the first movie that
I think that made that movie that was just one
of the best trailers I think I've ever seen just
because it was so tense It was such a Liam Neeson
was so great and then this the trailer for taken
2 is just like it I don't know I just it was
forgettable and it just seems like a they're
just trying to Lynch on to the first one so much
It's so unnecessary and I think it's probably
not gonna be very good. Maybe it can but it It
doesn't seem like it's necessary and there's
in it seems very repetitive. It's like oh, you're
gonna be taken again I'm like, okay, let's come
on. Yeah, they almost didn't need to call it
taken too They could have just called it like
retaken or taken again. Yeah taking back. It's
yeah I gotta test your movie Knowledge here your
movie IQ. What's the last movie Ben Affleck appeared
in? Appeared in Well, there was the town that
came out last year. Yeah Okay, that's the one
I was missing He was also in the company men
that came out early that well that was like 2011
too, but I think the town came after that I forgot
about the town. It just seemed like forever since
I'd seen him But I guess it hasn't been as long,
but this is an interesting cast with him Alan
Arkin Bryan Cranston John Goodman again. He's
all over the place this year. It seems like Tate
Donovan and we're talking about Argo from October
12 based on true events life -or -death covert
operation to rescue six Americans and he's basically
trying to Masquerade as a film I Don't know if
he's the one that's gonna be the director or
something and he's trying to get them out as
the crew And it's all the story of trying to
get these six, you know rescue these six Americans.
It looks interesting to me I like this type of
movie. So I'll probably see it. But again, I'm
not gonna go in with like ridiculous expectations
of this one It's an interesting look for Ben
Affleck. I've never seen him with this kind of
hair. Any thoughts on Argo? I'm just waiting
for him to put on a superhero suit and direct
Justice League. Oh, wait. Whoops. This is probably
going to be a wait and see for me. The cast looks
great. The plot looks decent. But at the same
time, I just felt like, oh, this is the same
CIA secret plot. Even though it's kind of based
on true events. It's like just your average spy
movie Any other thoughts on Argo Well, I'm a
big fan of Ben Affleck as a director so far like
I love the town. I love gone be be gone So I'm
kind of curious where he kind of takes this type
of material because what he's done done so far
has kind of been really really deep criminal
type of genre films and this is kind of it's
interesting because if you watch the trailer
it starts off super serious and then as it gets
into the actual story it's almost like a comedy
in a way so I'm kind of curious how that tonal
shift works in the actual movie and Honestly,
I'm quite excited for this. I think it could
be really good based upon, you know previous
track record, but uh it It's one of I think out
of so far of what we talked about in October
I think it's probably one I'm most looking forward
to but we'll see My question is what in the hell
is Kyle Chandler been up to? Last time I saw
his name was on early edition on CBS He's in
it also Steve any thoughts on on Argo? Nope I
am a huge Kevin James fan. Oh boy. Here we go.
And I'm also a huge MMA fan And even though this
movie looks like it's probably as all heck Here
comes the boom. I'm gonna watch I don't care.
Kevin James is a teacher. They need to raise
money because funding has been cut. All the ex
-curriculars have been cut. So he sees like some
guy that loses in an MMA match, you know, that
makes like $10 ,000 for losing and he comes up
with the idea to just go out there and make money
regardless of if he's winning or losing. And
it has real UFC and MMA veterans in it. I'm going
to watch it and just laugh. That's all I plan
to do on that one. When I saw the title and the
write -up for this, the first thing I thought
was, are they going to use P .O .D.'s boom song
in the movie? Here comes the boom! I used to
love that P .O .D. song. I don't know. This probably
is a missed one for me. I'll see it eventually.
Kevin James is just one of those guys that I
try not to miss too many of his movies because
I just think he's hilarious. I don't know why.
Dan any thoughts on here comes the boom It's
what's interesting about MMA. It's how much it's
taken over the spot of boxing and even doing
that now in movies like last year we had warrior
with like Tom Hardy and That was kind of almost
a similar story, but obviously more serious and
now we're having here comes the boom It could
be a fun watch, like Kevin mentioned. I do like
Kevin James. I enjoyed his show, King of Queens.
I think he's a very likeable guy. He's funny.
He's a natural comedian. I'm surprised that he
actually kind of... Has he's a realistic looking
or at least I can buy him as an MMA fighter Not
like really not like I think he could beat people
up But I'm pretty sure he can easily get the
crap kicked out of him And I think I'm pretty
sure if anyone can make that funny. It's Kevin
James. So Steve any thoughts on Kevin James?
I'm kind of waiting to see how this is gonna
turn out. I The the three main cast that it lists
have been in Adam Sandler movies. So There you
go But yeah, I usually like his stuff. So I'll
I'm gonna give that one a shot as well I'm just
excited a lot of different actors that we're
seeing in a lot of these different movies coming
out this year Some people that I haven't seen
for a while or some people that I really enjoy
And that continues with the October 19th release
of Alex cross Back from the days of party of
five on to lost. I love Matthew Fox and I don't
know if he'll be able to pull this role off But
it looks interesting to see him play a complete
freaking psychopath Tyler Perry's also in it
I can't I'm sorry. I I like James Patterson's
books. I cannot see fucking Madea as as Alex
cross. I just can't see that I just want to watch
it to see Matthew Fox and see if he can pull
this off. Right, right. So I'll be interested
in that. Will I go see it in the theater? I don't
know, but I will watch it eventually. Dan? Yeah,
I'm on the same line like Tyler Perry as an action
star or anything that's not his. It seems I don't
know. I don't like anything Tyler Perry does.
He's he I don't either, but he is in the trailer.
He looks like he almost could be proven himself
as legit in this one. Or maybe he just gets some
good lines that they give him. I don't know.
It's possible. I never read the book. Mike, it
sounds like you have. So I don't know if his
character fits that type of role, if that's how
the character is written. I don't know. Matthew
Fox actually looks pretty freaky in that. Went
to town with that role. So yeah, it looks like
he lost a ton of weight But he also bulked up
and I don't know. He just looks like he looks
crazy Yeah, he looks like he'll be the best part
of that movie Steve did you get a chance to see
the trailer for that one? Um No, but I Don't
care for Tyler Perry, you know, but it does have
Yeah, there's there's nothing there for me The
same day talk about a dream lineup for me Brad
Pitt James Gandolfini Ray Liotta and Sam Rockwell,
I Think this is the first thing I've seen Gandolfini
in as far as an actual film since the last castle
He was in in the loop I guess that wasn't really
that popular of a movie, but it's actually, I
think it's on Netflix, but yeah, he's really
after, when he was doing Sopranos and then really
hasn't done much after that. This one is one
of those that has a chance to separate itself
from the, you know, the regular shoot them up
cop. You know gambling mob or whatever, you know
that type of genre I could see this putting itself,
you know out there And not just because Brad
Pitt's in it and all those other guys are in
it It just had a feel to it that it might be
a little better than your typical Movie that
falls in this genre plus it's supposed to have
a comedy Sign to it. It's supposed to be part
comedy part crime So You know, maybe it's not
taking itself as serious as some of those other
ones try to so maybe that'll make it stand out
as well I don't know. I'm interested to see what
the I don't have I don't have really a good idea
of where This is gonna go So I'll be interested
going in to see which direction it takes Yeah,
and we can skip on over to October 26 because
that last one on October 19th No one gives a
shit about paranormal activity I did want to
talk a little about Killing Them Softly, because
I'm really looking forward to that movie. I think
it looks great. It's, again, really great cast
and really good director, Andrew Dominic, who
did the assassination of Jesse James with also
with Brad Pitt. I know you didn't like this movie,
Mike, but I do get a really big drive vibe out
of it, which is a movie I loved. You mean, oh,
Killing Killing Them Softly, you get the drive
vibe out of? Yes, it's the same. It's like the
kind of the gritty raw type of You know crime.
It's faster paced. I wouldn't like drive just
it seems so damn slow It yeah, it's drive was
slow, but it was deliberately slow I don't think
that's gonna you're gonna have the same type
of pacing with Killing them softly. I'm thinking
more so the character of that that like the brutality
of yeah I mean not to harp on it, but For me
the reason what like You know how we've mentioned
that some of the trailers don't don't do some
of the foot probably aren't gonna do some of
the film's justice That was the opposite of Drive
Drive's trailer made it look Like an amazing
driving gone in 60 seconds type heist type film
and then when I saw it I was like, oh my god,
the snail is moving faster than this fucking
movie Yeah, it's a movie you kind of it It's
a throwback to kind of 70s slow -burned films,
but it's it's I don't know But anyways killing
them softly, I think it looks really looks fantastic.
And yeah, it does look pretty good Then we got
five movies coming out that last week of October
starting with The Big Wedding which is worthy
of a mention simply for the Huge cast Amanda
Seyfried, Robert De Niro, Katherine Heigl, Robin
Williams, Topher Grace, Susan Sarandon, Diane
Keaton So I mean Will it be fantastic probably
not but people will go see it Yeah So there's
a romantic comedy for you for the second half
of the movie or of the year Yeah, I think it's
the only one that we've come to which is really
strange, but yeah, I mean you could probably
put Oranges the oranges yeah in there with it
Which is weird. It's like, October comes and
we're gonna throw at you some horror films and
then some romantic comedies in there with ya.
I guess, I don't know. Usually you don't see
those in October as much. At least from what
I can remember. And dude, we're chasing Mavericks!
Yeah, that's based on a true story and that is
still not gonna be enough to get me to watch
it. Eh, it's a surf movie. Boo. It is an interesting
role for, uh... Gerald Butler? Yeah. I wouldn't
have pictured him in that role. But that's all
right, because it doesn't matter what else comes
out this day, because for me, it's all about
the next one, which is Cloud Atlas. I think this
is going to be epically huge. And not just because
Tom Hanks is in it. No, because of Hugo Weaving.
Hugo Weaving, Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant,
Keith David, James Darcy. Susan Sarandon again.
Yeah, I haven't seen Tom Hanks. I don't remember
I mean he hasn't done a ton of stuff lately I
just get the feeling and I don't want to say
this just because it's Tom Hanks, but this just
has that unique Like I don't know it to me. It's
I don't know what to expect from it But I'm really
excited about it whatever it's gonna be and I'm
not a huge Tom Hanks fan. So that's The trailer
really kind of drew me in on this one Dan, any
thoughts on that? On whichever one we're on?
Cloud Atlas. Cloud Atlas. Cloud Atlas, yeah.
That is one of the most epic trailers I think
I've ever seen. It's like six minutes long. I
don't think I've ever saw a six minute long trailer
before, and still have no idea what it's about.
Right. But in a good way, because it draws you
in with its visuals, and you realize it's going
to try all these weird things. It's done by the
Wachowski. for others, and I guess now sister,
since the guy has sex change. Oh! Yeah. It's
the guys who did The Matrix and Speed Racer and
whatnot. One of the guys who did The Matrix is
now a woman? Yes. Oh, god. But you know that
they are really good with visuals, and that movie
has amazing visuals, looks all over it. I think
it could be one of the best movies of the year.
It also could be one of the worst, depending.
and how they kind of manage all that because
it looks it's going to be like a three hour long
movie it seems like with everything they're doing
but the only problem that I can see with this
one is you know I try to go in without expectations
this one I'm going to go in with high expectations
and sometimes that can burn you but I'm definitely
going to go into this one with very high expectations
it is rated R so I don't know I have no idea
what it's going to be about and what direction
it's going to go. But like you said, it is an
epic trailer. I would say it's the most epic
trailer of the year if it was not for a trailer
that's coming up a little bit later that blew
me away. So I'll have to wait for that one. But
Steve, any thoughts on the Cloud Atlas? Or chasing
Americans? It doesn't really. Neither one looked
interesting to me. All right. Cloud Atlas looks
cool. It looks all right, but I'm kind of man.
I'm kind of over some of those I think for me
Just in general here, and I've said this before
Outside of like the early like the early films
kind of like the fast fives and all that kind
of stuff that come out like the earlier months
like April and May and stuff like that For me,
it's summer blockbuster and November December
movies that I actually see in the theaters Everything
else I have a slight interest in, but I won't
really... I don't use my theater going time to
just see a movie that I will eventually see on
streaming or iTunes or Redbox or whatever. Then
we have one that really doesn't need much mention,
Fun Size. That's your basic high school comedy,
teen comedy. Hi, I'm Victoria. This is my brother
Tom my other brother Tom and my other brother
Tom. There's three times in this movie. I Don't
know. I mean, I don't outside of Oh God, it's
what Chelsea Handler screw this movie Maybe one
of you guys has interest in this. No, I only
think I saw the trailer and only thing that Crossed
my mind was because I guess it's a Nickelodeon
felons like Nickelodeon kind of went a little
dirty because it's kind of it's a little bit
raunchy the raunchy team not Completely all the
way, but there's a little bit there. I was surprised
I don't I don't know what Nickelodeon does now,
but it seems kind of little edgier for their
taste But I don't know maybe they're trying to
break out of the mold or something Do we have
any Silent Hill fans? Skip it No, I mean, I don't
know anything about that franchise. So but some
makes it I know that this film has nothing to
do with the previous one. Okay. But there probably
are some people listening that might be Silent
Hill fans. So you have your Silent Hill film,
Revelation 3D, coming out October 26th. Overall
thoughts on October. For me, it's all about killing
them softly and Cloud Atlas. With maybe Argo
having a chance. For me, I'm interested in Cloud
Atlas. It looks really, really cool. Killing
them softly is probably something I would see
Argo as well Taken might be good too. I just
why did they make that? I don't know Yeah Dan
any thoughts on October? I'm around the same.
I think looking definitely gonna see Argo and
Cloud Atlas and killing them softly in theaters
probably see taken too Just because I feel obligated
because I like the first one so much and I'm
kind of like the opposite of you Mike I if I
have a passing interest in a movie I just feel
I don't know Obligated to see in the theater
just because I feel like I'd I experience it.
I like that theater experience over seeing it
at home but you know I understand waiting it's
you can get expensive movies pretty pricey but
uh overall yeah those are the ones I'm looking
forward to the most is that month how about you
Steve? uh the only one I'm looking forward to
is uh taken two for the month all right moving
on to our second to last month here November
um we have a Five movies for November 2nd. The
first one, I'm assuming this is going to get
all kinds of rave reviews and award talk or something.
It's called a late quartet. You got Philip Seymour
Hoffman, Christopher Walken. There wasn't a trailer
on the site that I was looking at, so I haven't
seen a trailer. Yeah, comingsoon .net says, trailer
coming soon. It is about a string quartet of
some sort, and it just has the feeling to me
that people are going to go crazy over it as
far as the awards go. I don't know. Well, just
look at that one name in the cast list. I mean,
soon as anyone sees Christopher Walken, they
go nuts. Well, Philip Seymour Hoffman seems to
be the key these days to get critical acclaimed.
Also, it's like Meryl Streep for the males. Have
you seen a trailer for this one, Dan? I have
not. I looked online. Nothing has been released.
I can't believe that we've been seeing previews
for this next one as early as we have. Flight
with Denzel Washington, which I have a rule if
Denzel Washington's in a movie I see it in the
theater That movie looks really good Yeah, I
mean I will see anything that he's in I don't
care. I don't care how good or bad it looks I
will watch it because I think he's one of the
most amazing actors of the last 50 years and
this looks good it looks interesting it looks
like there's a lot of twists and turns in it
and Don't know again. I think this one's partially
based on a true story as well, right? Yeah So
I will watch that one anybody else besides Steve
and I that have said that we'll watch it. I know
eventually I will definitely see it. I think
it's interesting too, because I believe it's
Robert Zermackis' return to live action. He's
been doing a lot of the stop motion animation
stuff, which hasn't been all that successful.
So I'm really glad he's finally getting back
to real movies, because he's a pretty good director
when he wants to be. We've talked about a lot
of movies with stat cast, and that's another
one. There's John Goodman, Denzel Washington.
How could you not want to see it? Yeah. The next
two, I have no idea what to expect from these
two. The man with the iron fist which is basically
Russell Crowe meets a is thrown into a kung -fu
movie Quentin Tarantino obviously is involved
with this one. I I don't know I don't have Experience
with kung -fu movies and classics and stuff to
be able to you know I have a feeling I'm not
gonna be able to appreciate this one as much
as someone who has a lot of background watching
those types of movies But it looks like it's
gonna be a pretty big production Plus it has
the animal in it Sorry wrestling reference it
has Dave Bautista from WWE in it. Oh, okay. I
didn't realize that With this movie kind of it
it's it looked like one of the kind of falls
in the same lines It's like hobo with a shotgun
and a machete like those kind of ridiculously
movies that are bad On purpose type of movies.
It's directed by RZA who's from the Wu -Tang
Clan So I never thought someone from the Wu -Tang
Clan would direct the movie that Russell Crowe
was in What has happened since gladiator I know
it's it's I I don't really have a huge interest
but just that fact seems boggles my mind Then
the other one that I don't know what to expect
and I'll let people comment on either one that
they haven't if they have any chance But this
must be the place. I'm usually a huge Sean Penn
fan I'm not a huge Francis McDormand fan, but
uh This is an interesting story of revenge type
thing The trailers don't appeal to me, but like
I said, I usually like Sean Penn, so I don't
know I'm the same way. I like Sean Penn. He's
one of he's a great actor. But I don't know just
that character He just doesn't I get he I guess
he's playing him, you know a more muted kind
of character That's really really like numb to
the world, but it just nothing about it seems
all that interesting But who knows? You could
I could see that up for awards because Sean Penn
is we mentioned Philip Seymour Hoffman Sean Penn's
another one that kind of he shows up in a movie
He's pretty much gonna guarantee an award. So
Yeah anybody else have thoughts on either those
last two the man with iron fist or this must
be the place steve nope go ahead mike um no not
not not really because the last one is the one
that i'm really looking forward to the animated
one that a lot of geeks are looking forward to
oh my god they finally made an awesome video
game movie well you haven't seen it yet so you
don't know but it looks like it's got all the
makings of it which is obviously Wreck -It Ralph
No, I do I do have to say before you go on I
do have to say when I first when I just heard
the name of it I was like Disney, what are you
doing? Cuz I I didn't see the trailer at that
point in time. I'm like Doing I saw the trailer
and I did just 180 turn around. I was like, oh
my god. I have to see this Yeah, it definitely
looks interesting The characters that are being
used and not used are definitely causing a lot
of stir and buzz as far as who they were able
to put in, who they weren't, and stuff like that.
So it should be interesting to see everybody
that does show up or doesn't show up. M. Bison
and Zangief. For example will be there Sonic
the Hedgehog is at least Shown and I believe
voiced as well You know you have Jane Lynch John
C Riley Sarah Silverman So I it's gonna be interesting
to see how this plays out and I will definitely
watch it It's not the one I'm most looking forward
to animated wise, but I'm assuming it is for
you For me, it is, yeah. What about you, Steve?
I'm really looking forward to it. At first glance,
I was like, I don't really care. And then after
watching the full trailer, I was like, that is
cool. It's like the more you see about it and
the more information comes out about it, the
better it looks. And I'm not a big fan of a lot
of techno music, but I absolutely love that song
that's in the trailer. I just I think it fits
the movie very very well, and I just really enjoy
it. What about you Dan? Yeah, I'm gonna basically
kind of repeat a lot of things you guys already
said, but yeah, it looks it looks great It's
surprisingly it's not a Pixar film like it looks
and it's not it's Disney Yeah, it looks like
Disney's taking a lot of what they learned from
the Pixar studios and trying to apply it to their
own movies Which I think is a good idea, but
yeah, it looks it looks it's I can't believe
they're actually accomplishing that. Going back
and watching Roger Rabbit with Bugs Bunny and
Mickey Mouse in the same movie, and now seeing
this movie with Sonic the Hedgehog and Street
Fighter in the same movie, I think it could be
fantastic. I love John C. Reilly, so that also
kind of seals the deal for me. And just with
all the different legalities, it'll just be interesting
to see who else they're able to get to show up.
I mean, I know at one point they wanted, and
I'm not saying they are, they aren't. I haven't
read up to see who's all in it, but I know at
one point they wanted Bowser. He's in the trailer.
Dr. Wiley, they talked about Pac -Man ghosts.
I mean, so it'll be interesting to see who in
the end shows up in this one. The next one is
one I am very much looking forward to. Obviously
the history buffing me. But it's funny, we just
talked about Sean Penn and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Daniel Day -Lewis is another one. Daniel Day
-Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon -Levitt again,
James Spader, Hal Holbrooke, Tommy Lee Jones.
This is not that other one. This is Lincoln.
This is the true story, not that crappy, sparkly
vampire bullshit. It has ties to the book team
of rivals, the political genius of Abraham Lincoln.
This is all about the final months in office,
dealing with civil war and slavery and everything
else that he's choosing to do, and I will be...
Opening weekend probably because this is also
directed by Steven Spielberg This isn't just
something that Steven Spielberg his name is on
this is directed by Steven Spielberg. Yes This
to me Now you guys can argue this but this to
me feels like what? Amistad field felt like when
it came out As far as just the overall scope
of the movie and I Honestly, I may go see this
in theaters this is yeah, I'm gonna unfortunately
have the biggest expectations for this one because
I Don't know. I mean I'm used to Steven Spielberg's
name being on everything mmm and it not necessarily
being good But how many times has he directed
something that hasn't been good? Yeah, really?
I mean his track record is so good Steve any
thoughts on Lincoln? Looks good, but I'm not
gonna see it Dan Yeah, obviously there's not
a trailer so it's hard to say but just looking
at the poster that just recently came out this
week Like it the makeup and the work that they
put in to make Daniel Day -Lewis look like a
look like Lincoln is pretty remarkable And he's
a great actor a great director If you if you
have a fantasy Oscar pool that you this is probably
a guarantee that this is gonna be nominated.
I mean the Academy loves Steven Spielberg You
mean like warhorse like that was nominated last
year But I think I'm it could be one of the best
movies of the year Which is kind of an unfair
kind of expectation that put on a movie But it's
hard not when you look at everything that's involved
Daniel Day -Lewis is so good. Um Going up right
against it and I'm surprised these two are opening
in the same day is The next in the 007 series
skyfall And apparently Mike is not a fan I Again
Daniel Craig, we're staying with him as bond
in this one. Yeah, and it says obviously this
is the 23rd adventure His loyalty to M is tested
as her past comes back to haunter Obviously,
it's your typical 007 movie. How can you ever
judge a 007 or a Bond movie until you've seen
it? For me, it's more so that I'm still jaded
that Brosnan is no longer Bond. I will say that
I did enjoy Casino Royale, but I just... I know
the direction the filmmakers and producers are
going with this and why they picked Craig was
because it's supposed to be telling the earlier
stories before Bond got his double -O status.
I get that. I just fucking hate Daniel Craig
as James Bond. I just don't like him. And Quantum
of Boredom just... is exactly that. It's the
revenge story, continued over from Casino Royale.
I think the plot line here in Skyfall is very
cool, where it's focusing on M's past a little
bit. I think that could be cool. I like the title.
I like the title, too. And the thing about the
trailer is, they have this whole word game thing,
and they say, Skyfall, and Bond just says, done.
Completed or whatever the hell he says So I think
the plot could be good. I'm glad they moved away
from the whole Hey, it's Daniel Craig. We have
to have a continuity of Bond films where You
know Casino Royale to Quantum of Boredom You
know those two connect to each other. So this
could be cool I just think at this point in time
we need a new actor as Bond Steve Bond fan or
not? No, I'm a Borden fan not a Bond fan. How
about you Dan? I'm both, actually. I'm a big
Bourne fan, and actually, I wasn't a Bond fan
until maybe I kind of feel the opposite of Mike,
but maybe I wasn't really a big fan of Pierce
Brosnan as Bond. I found those movies a little
not my taste, but I love Daniel Craig as Bond,
honestly. And the reason I'm really interested
in Skyfall is the director, Sam Mendes, which
is a really inspired choice, I think, for a director,
because he hasn't really done films like this.
He's done like American Beauty, Roach Perdition,
which is a movie I really love. I love the visuals
of the movie. I think it looks fantastic. And
it's kind of it's kind of a great year for bonding
because it's like the 50th anniversary this year
I've actually been going back and watching all
the old bond movies. So I'm kind of in a bond
mode right now So maybe that's the reason why
I'm so excited for this movie But I think it
looks fantastic and I'm really looking forward
to it That franchise is like amazes me because
you know so many times when you have a character
like that Everybody like there seems to be a
consensus like everybody likes this or that But
with Bond, there's so many people in each of
the camps of each of the people that have played
Bond. You have a huge group that Connery is the
best Bond, or a huge group that Pierce is the
best, or a huge group that some of those earlier
ones. Roger Moore. Yeah, Roger Moore, whoever.
It just surprises me how much every one of them
is liked by different people. Think a lot of
that has to do like when you kind of started
like who you started with a lot of people who
started with Sean Connery That's always gonna
be their bond. I think I started I like the first
one really I got into was kissy and Royale So
maybe that's why I I really like Craig I agree
with Mike about quantum assault. So I thought
that wasn't very good I think that suffered a
lot because of the writer's strike They kind
of they had a kind of just like haphazardly finished
that movie and it's you can kind of tell When
I think or I like Daniel Craig and I like, you
know what he's done But when I picture bond,
that's not who I picture. I picture someone more
Like Pierce Brosnan whether it's him or not.
I think Pierce Brosnan fits the image in my head
more But like you said that might be because
maybe that was the first person I saw as it But
yeah, it'll be interesting to see how that one
stacks up with the other 22 films Connery will
always be bond and he will always be Henry Jones
senior but for me getting back like I I started
out as a kid very early with bond I Saw the man
with the golden gun, which is a Roger Moore one.
I saw viewed with kill It didn't really care
too much for Roger Moore, but the one that really
got me as a kid was licensed to kill with Timothy
Dalton but as a like a modern -day Bond fan it
was Pierce because it had been what six seven
eight nine years since there was a Bond movie
between 89 and 95 however however long I think
it was like six years or so I forget I'm not
doing the math right now but like 95 I had already
seen Mrs. Doubtfire and liked Pierce in that
And when he was Bond, for me, he gave Bond a
comical flair that a lot of the other ones just
didn't have. And I love even though Die Another
Day is kind of a movie, I love all of Pierce's
stuff and just the fact that they couldn't get
him back to do the younger Bond or find some
just find somebody else. Go ahead. One thing
I wanted to mention is, see if you mentioned
you're more of a Bourne fan. And I am, too. And
I think that's maybe why I like Craig, because
his style in the Casino Royale film, you can
definitely see how that was influenced by the
Bourne franchise. Just the action is more fluid
and more like that. It's not as over the top.
You don't have the... All the different inventions
and stuff like that. They're more real -world
ish and you know more based in technology And
I think that's kind of it was kind of my lead
-in because I really loved the Bourne movies
and it was kind of an easy You know way to kind
of get into the franchise But I'm actually really
enjoying looking back and getting into all the
other movies as well. So I've never seen all
the old ones and I would really want to Then
we move into what will for sure make the most
money in November Which is breaking down in part
two So that will for sure make make the most
money in November I will eventually see it so
I can see You know all of them and see the how
the story unfolds, but I'm not gonna see it in
the theater Does anybody want to talk about Twilight?
I know I'll be seeing it just not in November.
I'll be seeing it in December because I'll be
having a child born around that exact date. But
it's not a bad series. I'm glad it's winding
out. I want to see how the story ends. Vampires
should not fucking sparkle! Alright, Mike has
made his opinions known. Moving into basically
what will be the Thanksgiving releases for this
year. I mentioned earlier, or Dan had mentioned
earlier, that the, what was it, Cloud Atlas,
that the trailer really blew you away. The trailer
for Life of Pi blew me away. To me, that was
one of the most epic trailers I've ever seen,
and just the visual way it was done, the colors,
the lighting. Everything about that trailer makes
me want to see this movie. I know it looks completely
weird, and it looks like a mixture of all kinds
of other movies that we've seen. To me, it reminds
me of like the vibe I got from Forrest Gump,
but in a completely different way. I don't know.
I'm very much looking forward to Life of Pi.
I don't know why. I just am. Actually, I'm right
there with you. I love that trailer, too. It
just kind of came on and I'm like, you know,
what is this? And I remember seeing it in the
theater and the person behind me when it starts
It's like is that Noah's ark because you know
suddenly a zebra appears and I'm like, which
is kind of funny But uh, yeah, I think it looks
fantastic. Ang Lee is really great with Really
great with visuals. He's you know I know a lot
of people hate his Hulk, myself included, but
he is a good filmmaker when he does things that
I think that are in his wheelhouse. And this
seems like something that should be fantastic.
I kind of get like a tree of life vibe in a way,
like where it doesn't seem like the story is
going to be, it's going to be a strange story,
but it might be very appealing. From a visual
standpoint, like this is to me as a movie that
is one of those that should be better in the
theater. And it should completely capture for
me the magic of the cinema. With the way they
do the visuals and the lighting and like I said
the colors and everything like I want to see
the whole experience I could be completely disappointed
with the story And I could be walking out being
like what the heck was that but it's still gonna
be an experience watching it to me From what
I can tell from the trailer It seems strange
that we're getting Life of Pi and Cloud Atlas
in the same year because they're very they're
not very commercial films you would think but
they seem like they're Yeah, that's why I was
saying like the the second half of this year
is just completely different than the commercial
aspect of the first half of this year With all
these more unique I mean you're getting like
like we said with Lincoln and and Cloud Atlas
and some of these other ones like Completely
different than what you got the first half with
spider -man Batman, you know wrath of the Titans
Avengers, etc. Any other thoughts on Life of
Pi or should we move on to Red Dawn? Move on.
Red Dawn's been done before, correct? Yes, it's
a remake. Okay. Patrick Swayze. I never saw that
original one and this one of course has Thor
in it instead. What's interesting about Red Dawn
that the remake is has actually been in the kind
of MGM has kind of had it for a few years But
haven't been able to release it for a few reasons
one when it was first made the villains in it
were actually the Chinese and They went in and
digitally changed it all and did some reshoots
to make it the North Koreans because China is
a really huge market right now So they didn't
want to piss off the Chinese China market So
they went in and changed everything and MGM is
you know, they went bankrupt. So it was kind
of funny and And Chris Hensworth is also in the
cabin of the woods this year that was also put
on the shelf. So for some reason, he just happened
to be in a lot of movies this year because they're
just getting released now. But I like the first
Red Dawn from the 1980s. It's a guilty pleasure.
It's nothing fantastic. I mean, I loved it as
a kid because the idea of high school kids fighting
against the commies was a great idea. I think
it doesn't work now because we don't have that.
Rival we have we don't have the the Cold War
going on. It just it doesn't have as much of
an effect I think is north. Yeah I did like a
whole paper in college on all the different media
that was You know Cold War influenced and stuff
like that and how we were always, you know against
the same people and yes now it's a completely
different culture and different environment so
you don't I don't know how this would work as
well, but It might be interesting. I mean I don't
know, it looks like it could be an entertaining
movie, and it'll probably watch it, but with
everything else that's being released in the
theater, it's probably gonna be something that
I wait for on DVD or Netflix or something. More
than likely. That leads me to the animated movie
I am most looking forward to probably this year,
which is Rise of the Guardians from DreamWorks
Animation. And to me, this is their attempt at...
Doing what Shrek did for fairy tales this should
do to you know, like the holiday Iconic characters
like that like we have Easter bunny tooth fairy
Sandman Santa Claus Jack Frost, etc But I like
those characters better than I like the fairy
tale characters and Shrek and I'm looking for
big things out of this one Chris Pine Alec Baldwin
Hugh Jackman Jude Law I don't know something
about this intrigues me and that With the exception
of maybe one other one. This is the animated
movie. I'm most looking forward to this year.
I Don't know if it's just the popularity of the
Avengers, but I feel like we're getting a lot
of team -up movies We have rise of the guardians.
We have Hotel Transylvania The Expendables we're
seeing like a lot of movies with all these different
characters coming together I think this one's
been planned for a while. I mean, I know I get
what you're saying, but I think this one was
like You know, they saw what Shrek did and they
were like we got to find another way to You know
kind of chime in on that success in another way.
Yeah, it makes sense I mean, I like the concept
I think the I'm surprised the idea really hasn't
been done before and yeah I know I know Mike
you guys are doing a dream work spotlight right
now So that might kind of you know It's kind
of listening to that podcast would kind of be
a good lead -in to that film Just kind of get
idea of what dream works has done up to this
point Yeah, yeah season two of to cast beyond
more coverings, you know select DreamWorks films
I don't think this is gonna obviously this probably
won't come out in time by the time we have season
two finished as far as production But the beauty
thing about to cast beyond is in future seasons.
We can always go back to stuff that has come
out You know, we can always go back a spotlight
part two whatever else. I don't know. I just
I think past Skyfall, I have really no interest
in anything in the rest of the year. Steve, any
interest in Rise of the Guardians? Or Red Dawn,
or anything that we've talked about? Red Dawn,
I have interest in. I don't know if I'll see
it in theater, probably not. Rise of the Guardians
is very interesting, to say the least. Probably
not gonna see it in theater either just because
November. I'm gonna be busy, but I do like the
All -star cast that they have going for it. Yeah,
and it could be bad I just I'm gonna give it
a shot to me it's out of all the anime movies
like I wasn't interested in brave and you know
all the Hotel not the Hotel Transylvania, but
the Frankenweenie and I mean there's been so
many that I have no interest in so it's like
this one came around and it's like oh I'll give
this one a shot just because it's not those other
ones Besides Wreck -It Ralph of course. And then
of course you have to have your holiday feel
-good movie come out around Thanksgiving and
to me that's what Silver Linings Playbook is.
It's just that one that's like people are gonna
go see with their families or I don't know and
guess what Bradley Cooper's in it. It's it's
funny like Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence
who seems to be in a lot of different movies
are kind of of course they're gonna be in a movie
together because You can't have a month with
them not in a movie. So it's you see kind of
the range though It's kind of like how Bradley
Cooper was in, you know, the other film earlier
in October and how Jennifer Lawrence was in the
Hunger Games you see her in a completely different
character and this so It probably will do well
because it's gonna be that like you mentioned
a feel -good movie about kind of that serious
but still kind of you know tugs at the heartstrings
a little bit. This kind of reminds me of almost
um oh god what was that uh Angelina Jolie Ed
Burns movie life or something like it it reminds
me of that a little bit um I also have to say
that this is the first movie I've seen that Chris
Tucker is being starred in for a while. I don't
remember the last thing I saw him in as far as
live action outside of that crappy, most wanted,
whatever the hell that Madagascar is or whatever.
This could be cool though. I might actually see
this at one point or another. For November for
me. I am going to see Flight with Denzel, but
it all boils down to Lincoln and Life of Pi for
me for November. Those are the two I'm looking
forward to the most. For me, it's most definitely
Wreck -It Ralph. Flight is probably going to
be one that I would check out most likely when
it releases to media. I don't know. Skyfall.
I saw Casino Lake. I've seen all the bonds since
95. I've seen all the bond films and theaters
with the exception of quantum of boredom I May
go see skyfall just because it is a bond movie
and that was kind of like mine November film
every year But other than that there really isn't
anything that I want to go spend theater money
on in November What about you Steve outside of
the fact that you're? I'm looking forward to
Flight, Wreck -It Ralph, Red Dawn, Rise of the
Guardians. Dan? I will see Flight, Wreck -It
Ralph, Lincoln Skyfall. I will probably see Breaking
Dawn because my wife's a fan of that. She doesn't
like the movie, she likes the books, but I will
probably end up seeing that unfortunately. Life
of Pi. Well, um, perhaps read on I'm not really
I don't know. I don't think I'll see that in
theaters Probably see silver linings playbook.
But again, I probably will just wait for that
to come out on DVD or Netflix So that takes us
into our final month our holiday month here December.
I want to start off talking about this one because
I'm just crossing my fingers and praying That
Bill Murray will finally get his due I think
he's one of the most amazing actors of our generation.
And I never think he gets the acclaim that he
needs to get. And Hyde Park on Hudson is the
type of movie that the Academy always swoons
over. And if he gets snubbed, if he actually
turns in and pulls off this role and gets snubbed,
I'm going to be pissed. I want him nominated
for a best actor for this movie, even though
I haven't seen it. It's all about Franklin Delano
Roosevelt back in 1939, which is who Bill Murray
plays The history the historian in me is obviously
gonna love this. I love Bill Murray So I'm looking
for big things out of this one. What is it about
presidential movies in the last half of this
year? Lincoln I mean, I'm not complaining. I'm
just saying it's like holy crap. All the least
presidential movies are coming up Wednesday That's
it. Dan, thoughts on Hyde Park on Hudson? I'm
actually really looking forward to it. And I
completely agree with everything you said about
Bill Murray. If he gets snubbed because of this,
it'll be a shame. I think it'd be really interesting
if we have Bill Murray nominated as FDR and then
we have Daniel Day -Lewis nominated as Abraham
Lincoln. That would be crazy. but I and this
will be kind of like an interesting like counter
movie to like a not counter movie but a good
companion piece with the king's speech because
it deals with a lot of it's the same time same
time period a lot of the same historical figures
but I think it looks really fantastic and Bill
Murray as FDR is a perfect casting it makes so
much sense I agree um then we have our another
romantic comedy joins the group uh playing for
keeps Which, I don't know, maybe since I have
no significant other right now, I have no interest
in romantic comedies, but another Gerard Butler,
Uma Thurman, Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta -Jones,
Dennis Quaid, so I mean it's got the all -star
cast. It seems like that's the theme lately with
romantic comedies. Like it's not enough to have
a well -written and good dialogue in your romantic
comedy. You must get as many people as possible.
It like reminds me of those, of Valentine's Day
or whatever or New Year's Eve or like... Why
do we need to throw everybody and their brother
in every romantic comedy these days? It's the
Gary Marshall effect. Basically, you don't need
good characters. You just need name recognition.
You get a character that's going to draw this
section. You'll get a hot teen star. You'll get
an older actor. You just pick actors based upon
who they attract, and then that's how you make
your movie. It is directed by the guy that directed
The Pursuit of Happiness. Which I somewhat enjoyed
so I don't know And I think the thing about this
year's romantic comedies and other comedies in
general outside of 21 jump straight because no
one knows who the fuck Jonah Hill is I think
the thing with the comedies in the last half
of the year is that and in most of these films
in the last half a year is they're finally going
back to the name -brand stars that whereas last
year it felt like it was all like newcomers and
people we didn't between the end of last year
and the beginning of this year outside of the
big big blockbusters it just felt like oh hey
here's this person you've never heard of oh hey
here's this person you've never heard of in these
three movies um so i don't i don't mind all these
big casts in a lot of these films that are at
the end of the year which then would take us
to the movie that will make the most money in
december We had Breaking Dawn will make the most
movie in November, and undoubtedly The Hobbit
will make the most money in December. And on
December 13th, 2012, the world will end. So no
one will be able to see The Hobbit. Shut up.
Obviously, all the same people from Lord of the
Rings basically are back. Peter Jackson is different
characters. No, it's all it's all the same world.
It's it's all the same world. But Elijah Wood
is playing Bilbo versus playing Frodo. No, it's
a different guy is it I gotta say when they're
doing the chain in the tray in one of the trailers
for this when They are in the little hut or whatever
and they start doing that song That is one of
the creepiest yet like magical spooky like I
don't know how to describe that moment, but Again,
I like sends chills down my spine when they're
start doing that like little like folk song I
don't know what it is about that. But to me and
I'll let you guys talk here, but nobody knew
Like when Lord of the before Lord of the Rings
came out Like before the very first movie came
out people did not a lot of people did not know
what Lord of the Rings was Everybody knew what
the Hobbit was And to me, if Lord of the Rings,
with not as big of a following before those movies
came out, was as successful, I don't see why
this one won't even be more successful. I know
it's hard to top what Lord of the Rings, the
trilogy did, and I know the last one in this
chapter, you know, one best picture, of course,
with Return of the King and whatnot, but Hobbit
has a bigger original following. You know what
I mean? Like that story was more well known than
the Lord of the Rings. So to me, this one seems
like it has the potential to even take off and
even go further, but maybe it won't. Maybe it's
lost its time to do that. I don't know. Well,
I've been hearing nothing but hype about it as
far as people wanting to see it and everyone
that... I interact with on Twitter, Facebook,
everybody wants to see this movie. Would you
guys say that this is Tokens, not really his
version, but would you say, as far as the popularity
of The Hobbit, this could be compared to Homer's
Iliad? As far as, like, the overall... Well,
I mean, this is... For a long time, this was
his thing. Like, this was the most recognizable
title he had. Yeah. To me, what separates this,
though... is okay you have some of these other
great movie trilogies or however many numbers
there are and then it seems like oh we want to
capitalize on it so we need to make more of these
the difference between that this one here is
that this you know this isn't capitalizing on
something else this is this already existed this
isn't you know george lucus coming up with more
star wars films to make more star wars films
right this isn't you know coming up with another
add -on to another series just to keep it going
like this was around from the beginning so i
don't know i i don't think people are going to
have a problem i don't think people are going
to hold anything against this i don't know i
i i should let you guys talk it's just not like
i've said before i i don't between lord of the
rings and JR tokens other stuff, I don't dislike
them. They're just not my cup of tea. Whereas
on the flip side of that coin, I just can't stand
the Harry Potter crap. But it's one of those
things where I'm just not that interested in
it. To me, it's like the best trilogy, one of
the best trilogies of all time. And I can't wait
to see what this is. Steve, what are you looking
for for the Hobbit? Just to see. how they, you
know, the precursor to the other three films.
Gotcha. Dan? I'm really looking forward to Hobbit,
I think. I love Loaded of Rings trilogy, like
most people. My only worry is how the Hobbit...
It originally started off as two films and now
they've kind of gone to a trilogy and it seems
like that decision was just made recently So
that I don't know that seems strange that they
would wait so long to kind of split it off the
three when you know Lord of the Rings is three
separate books So it makes sense, but the hobbits
only one but it could still be good Only thing
I wish about what the hobbit is that I know Peter
Jackson's directing it which makes sense because
he directed the first three Originally, Guillermo
del Toro was set up to direct, but he ended up
bowing out. I was kind of curious to see his
take on this. I think it'd be interesting to
see someone else's visual style, and he is one
of the best visual styles, but just to see something
different. But besides that, I think it's probably,
like you mentioned, going to be one of the biggest
hits of the year. I know that they talked about
the different types of styles that it has regarding
the 35 millimeter. And I'm not sure if it's in
3D, but it's going to be one of the Biggest broadcasters
of the year Yeah Then we have Les Mis on December
14th with Hugh Jackman Russell Crowe and Hathaway
Amanda Seyfried Helen Bonham Carter Sasha Baron
Cohen. So I mean, it's a huge cast well, and
of course This is also trying to take advantage
of you know, the musical Phenomenon etc and the
Broadway phenomena all that kind of tied in together
uh... my question is why this one though it's
just been done less than well i guess it's been
ten fifteen years now but there is a modern version
with Liam Beeson my question is why the fuck
did they put it up against the hobbit the hobbit
is going to crush this damn movie that is true
Yeah, I don't know that was bad decision on their
part. Nobody should try to go against the habit
But I just don't understand why we need another
one of these when we just had one, you know in
the in modern times I mean, there's other Broadway
musicals and broadways and musicals and all kind
of stuff that you could have gone with I don't
quite get it The only other one I'm interested
in for December is zero dark 30 because it's
a movie about the end of Osama Should be interesting
I didn't get to see a trailer on that one, but
yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'm going
to be interested in watching that one or not.
I don't know how political that's going to be
and how accurate that's going to be or how, you
know, if someone has an agenda, I don't know.
I don't want to get into the politics of it.
Well, it's. It's directed by Katherine Bagelow.
No idea who the hell she is. She directed the
Heart Locker and she directed Point Break, actually.
She was the first woman ever to be nominated
for Best Director. Oh, okay. I'll let Dan give
his thoughts on these couple films in a second,
but I will not see Jack Reacher because of Tom
Cruise. That is the Tom Cruise movie, right?
Yes. Yes. Yeah, I I used to like Tom Cruise and
now I don't um This is 40 a sequel to knocked
up Very quasi sequel. Yeah, that seems interesting
like seems lame Now they're making just random
quasi sequels to romantic comedies. Yeah The
the movie I most want to see for the rest of
December and then I'll let you guys talk on the
rest of December is I don't even know how to
say it but Django Unchained Oh, yeah. Whatever
it is. Leonardo DiCaprio, who I'm not a huge
fan of, but he does good movies. And this is
obviously set in the Civil War, which is one
of my favorite time periods as far as American
history. And to me, this looks really good. Jamie
Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony
LaPylea, James Reemar, Jonah Hill. I don't know,
this this one could get a lot of. Award talk
as well, and I think it looks amazing Dan your
thoughts on December films. I'm looking forward
to their dark 30 I'm just I like Katherine Brighill.
Oh, and it there's actually she worked They were
actually developing that before the whole thing
went down with the London. So I'm kind of curious
how that how that all plays out This is 40. I
like Paul read a lot. I always find him funny.
I just find him a very likable So I'm interested
in that Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise. I don't
know it he that character doesn't work for Tom
Cruise It's just like he trying to be like this
big tough guy and he doesn't seem like the role
for him But like you I speaks in a mission movies.
Damn it Like you I can't wait for Django Unchained.
I love Tarantino and Christopher Waltz and you
know, Jamie Foxx and The character Leonardo DiCaprio
looks really fun in that too. So I I love that
movie love his style I love every pretty much
everything about it. So I'm really looking forward
to that as well Mike or Steve any thoughts on
the December films? Nope No, not really overall.
I think that the The rest of the year has a few
gems, you know, wide -release gems. There's a
few hidden gems that might not get as much attention.
There are maybe four or five that I'll go see
in the theater, but the rest of them, for me,
I like watching movies at home. I don't like
going out into the theater. Before we give our
top picks and... wrap it up or whatever. I just
had one question I wanted to pose to you just
to see what you guys' predictions are as far
as money -wise. Right now we sit in 2012 with
the Avengers blowing everything out of the water
as far as money goes at 617. With Dark Knight
Rises at 413, Hunger Games at 407, and Spider
-Man way down at 257 obviously. With the the
big ones that are coming out as far as Twilight
and The Hobbit Do you think where do you think
they fall in with Avengers Dark Knight Rises
and Hunger Games? Will any of them beat any of
those? Hobbit's gonna blow everything away. Even
Avengers? I don't know if it'll come It's either
gonna come like right in second place to Avengers,
but as far as like everything else in the rest
of the year Hobbit's gonna blow everything else
outside of the conflict movies away. I Think
I think it's I'd like to think that but the Breaking
dark part 2. I mean you have a huge dedicated
fan base to that film And I think that it's I
think it's gonna be a lot more competitive than
we realize unfortunately I think the Avengers
is still gonna be number one and dark nights
still gonna be number two Maybe the Hobbit 3
and I probably I don't know if anything will
actually get above the Hunger Games because at
best I think you would see the Hunger Games and
Breaking dawn are gonna be around the same around
same rang because like, you know the same it's
the same type of fan base So I'm sure that they'll
get a lot of crossover there, but I think Avengers
is gonna stay number one. I don't see anyone
Getting that like that movie was an event and
I don't think anything else coming out this year
is gonna be quite like the Avengers Yeah, I wouldn't
be surprised if Hobbit beats, you know comes
in at number two I can't see anything beating
Avengers. I mean Avengers is third On all time
now as far as domestic behind Titanic and avatar
So I can't see anything beating Avengers, but
I could see how bit sneaking in right around
Hunger Games Dark Knight Rises somewhere in that
territory But it might be interesting to see
money wise, you know where they all fall as far
as Top picks for the rest of the year the ones
were most looking forward to Mike What are you
most looking forward to in the rest of 2012?
As far as a you know actually going to the theater
I don't really reckon Ralph is it for me. I did
say I might go see some of the other ones, but
honestly, like I've said before multiple times
and I'm tired of being a broken record, it's
mainly the big summer films and I'm just, I don't
know if I want to have to pay between, depending
on if Sky Falls in 3D or not, I don't think it
is, but I don't have to pay movie theater prices
and then you know, have to rent it later. So
I probably reckon Ralph is the only thing I'm
actually going to actually actively go see in
theaters the rest of the year. Steve? I'm looking
forward to mostly the action movies this year,
a few animated films. I don't think that any
of them except for The Hobbit has a chance in
hell at getting anywhere near any of the previous
hits of the year. But I mean, I see Twilight
breaking in some dough, but I still think The
Hobbit is going to hit number three for the year
below Avengers and Dark Knight. Oh, I did. I
did want to say real quick that there is another
animated movie that is scheduled for sometime
in 2012, unless it has gotten pushback, but it
doesn't have a firm date. And that's Dorothy
of Oz. And I am actually really looking forward
to that. It looks like an incredible version
animated version of Dorothy of Oz or of the Wizard
of Oz. It's got Martin Short, Dan Aykroyd, Kelsey
Grammer, James Belushi, Patrick freaking Stewart.
It just looks cool. So if that does happen to
come out for 2012, along with Rise of the Guardians,
those will be the animated ones I'm most looking
forward to. As far as my overall films, there's
so many unique and cool things that are just
Don't know. I'm really excited to see that. I
couldn't quite get down to five I got it down
to eight the words killing them softly cloud
atlas Lincoln life of pie Django and chained
Hyde Park on Hudson and the Hobbit So I've got
a lot of stuff looking forward to the rest of
this year Dan My top ones are or skyfall Django
and chained killing them softly looper zero dark
30 Hyde Park on Hudson, Life of Pi, Argo, Wreck
-It Ralph, and Flight are the ones I'm definitely
going to see in theaters and the ones I'm really
looking forward to this year. Alright, so I guess
we'll have to wait until our end of the year
discussion to see how some of these stacked up
or how some of them disappointed us or surprised
us when we wrap up the entire year in film. Mike?
