the Night before I leave in December for my trip
I'm extremely busy Today we're going to be discussing
Goldfinger the third Bond film in the franchise
And I think we're gonna head it on over to JT
who has just the facts for us. Secret agent James
Bond is relaxing in Miami Beach when CIA agent
Felix Leiter approaches him. Felix has brought
Bond new orders from MI6 Commander M saying Bond
is to observe and report on the actions of an
orc Goldfinger, a suspected gold smuggler who
is also staling at the hotel. 007 begins his
assignment by causing Goldfinger to lose a game
of cards with the help of the villains assistant
Jill Masterson. Bond then proceeds to try and
bed the willing Masterson. but is knocked out
by Goldfinger's bodyguard odd job. When he comes
to, Bond finds his new friend dead by suffocation
after being covered in gold paint. Bond later
meets Goldfinger at a country club and the two
enter into a high stakes golf game. Bond trounces
the overbearing Goldfinger and later follows
him back to Switzerland, where he sneaks into
Goldfinger's processing plant to find evidence
of his crimes. He discovers Goldfinger smuggles
the gold out of the country by melting it down
into car parts for his vintage 1937 Rolls Royce.
Bond also runs into Tilly Masterson, Jill's sister,
as she tries to assassinate Goldfinger for killing
her sister. While they struggle with each other,
they set off in an alarm and are forced to make
a run for it. Unfortunately, Oddjob kills Tilly
with his razor -rimmed bowler hat, and Bond is
captured by guards. He is tied down on a table
as a cutting laser begins to slice it in two.
Bond manages to BS his way out of the predicament
by convincing Goldfinger that MI6 knows about
Grand Slam. Goldfinger stops the laser, planning
to use Bond to mislead British intelligence.
The captured secret agent is then flown to a
horse farm near Fort Knox in Kentucky by Goldfinger's
personal pilot, Pussy Galore. Upon arriving in
Kentucky, Bond escapes and sees Goldfinger meeting
with the mafia, who have brought equipment necessary
for Grand Slam to work. After describing his
plan and promising them a larger cut of the take,
Goldfinger kills the crooks with some nerve gas.
Bond is then recaptured and almost mockingly
told by Goldfinger that he doesn't plan to steal
any gold. He's going to irradiate the gold with
a nuke, thereby making it unusable while at the
same time increasing the value of his own stockpile.
Operation Grand Slime begins with Pussy Galore
spraying the nerve gas all over Fort Knox. However,
Bond, having previously worked his sexual mojo
on Miss Galore, gets her to replace the gas with
a harmless placebo. The military contingent,
having previously been warned, play dead while
Goldfinger's men break in. Goldfinger soon arrives
with a nuke and has Oddjob handcuffed 007 to
the bomb. The US troops then attack, but Goldfinger
is ready for this and switches into a General's
uniform in order to escape. Bond quickly escapes
the handcuffs, but not the hulking Oddjob. Bond
fights with Oddjob, who overpowers the secret
agent, but Bond wins by electrocuting Oddjob
with his own hat. With just seconds left, Felix
Leiter arrives with a bomb tech who manages to
subdue the bomb with only seven seconds left
on the clock. With Fort Knox safe, Bond is invited
to DC to meet with the President and is flown
there by Pussy Galore. However, Goldfinger skyjacks
the flight, seeking revenge for Bond's interference.
During the struggle, Bond shoots out a window
which causes Goldfinger to get ejected from the
plane via explosive decompression. As the plane
crashes, Bond rescues Pussy Galore and the pair
parachute to safety, ending the film. Adapted
from the seventh novel of the Ian Fleming series,
Goldfinger opened in theatres on September 17,
1964. The film was directed by Guy Hamilton,
who would return three times to direct Diamonds
Are Forever, Live and Let Die, and The Man with
the Golden Gun, respectively, within the Bond
series. Aside from Sean Connery, who returned
for his third turn as the dashing 007, the cast
included Gert Frobe as Oric Goldfinger, Sec Linder
as the second Felix Leiter in the film series,
Honor Blackman as Bond girl Pussy Galore, and
Harold Cicada as the lethal oddjob. Goldfinger
had a budget of $3 million, the combined total
of both the previous films, and would go on to
make almost $125 million worldwide. Critics generally
loved the film. Critic for the Sunday Times,
Derek Prowse, said the film was superbly engineered,
it was fast, it was fun. The film critic for
The Guardian called Goldfinger the most exciting
and extravagant of the Bond film series. Many
modern day critics also loved the film, shown
by Rotten Tomatoes current fresh rating of 96%.
The film of course has some trivia you may want
to know about. First thing is that Unicron himself,
Orson Welles, was originally sought for the role
of Goldfinger, but was ultimately let go when
he demanded too much money. Goldfinger is also
the first Bond film to generate toy tie -ins.
Corgi Toys began its long relationship with the
series when it released a toy version of Bond's
signature ride, the Aston Martin DB5. Another
tidbit is that The Laser Beam, which was a first
in any film up to this point, was actually a
replacement for a spinning buzzsaw idea that
producers rejected as too cliché. Goldfinger
was also the only Connery -era Bond film to not
feature the villainous Spectre organization.
However, the popular spinoff video game GoldenEye
Rogue Agent would attempt to link the organization
with Goldfinger almost 40 years later. And did
you know that the film was initially banned in
Israel because Gert Frobe, the actor who played
Goldfinger, was a member of the Nazi party in
World War II? This ban was lifted, however, when
a Jewish family came forward acknowledging that
Frobe sheltered them from persecution during
the war. Goldfinger is a favourite of many Bond
film fans, myself included. The film is cited
by many as being one of the best performances
of Sean Connery in the series, and is considered
by many as being one of the definitive Bond movies.
It's packed with action, adventure, and one of
the best lines in Bond movie history. This was
Just the Facts Goldfinger. I'm JT from Saskatoon.
Signing off. Thank you so much, JT. Very, very
awesome. You stole my audio clip, you asshat.
I was going to use that later in the episode,
but yes, the famous line, no, Mr. Bond, I expect
you to die. When did you first, again, going
back in time here, neither one of us was born
at the time that this came out, but when did
you first see Goldfinger? I think this is probably
the first Bond movie I ever watched and like
most of the ones I was first exposed to was probably
on television when I was a kid. It was probably
the first time I ever saw it. I think for the
longest time, I always assumed Gold was the first
Bond movie. It's like the one you hear most often
referred to. It's probably the most iconic. So
for the longest time, I always thought it was
the first movie and I think it's the first one
I saw. But yeah, so it was probably way back
when I was growing up on cable. Yeah, I... I
knew Of. Like, I had seen bits and pieces of
it over the years. I don't think I've ever seen
it all the way through. And as JT so eloquently
pointed out, that they tried to tie Goldfinger
into Dr. No and Spectre and all that in the GoldenEye
Rogue Agent, which I absolutely love that game.
That game is so frickin' cool. But yeah, I had
not seen like from beginning to end the film
until just before we started recording I just
I don't know what it is what a lot of these older
bonds I either haven't seen them at all like
know nothing about them like when we get to Lazy
be crap You know or I've seen bits and pieces
and I know of their legacy, you know that kind
of thing Yeah, I watched it. It was great. I
thought it was you know, it was probably one
of the to date It's probably one of my favorite
bonds besides Brosnan stuff Really really loved
it and I know JT went down some of the cast.
Well, he actually went down all the cast, but
we need to talk about this cast, because you've
got Connery back as Bond. You have Honor Blackman
as Pussy Galore, the Bond woman. Sorry. I mean,
Bond girl. That's from an outtake, people. You
have Gert Froby as Orit Goldfinger. I don't think...
Don't think I could have seen Orson Welles as
Goldfinger No, I mean I I couldn't either I think
he I don't see him fitting that role and I think
this is wasn't this time of period wasn't really
the best for Orson Welles to begin with but yeah,
I he kind of Really won't fit Goldfinger. I don't
see him as being as menacing or as nearly as
memorable as skirt Furby I could imagine anybody
else playing that part You know, you got Shirley
Eaton and Tania Mallet as Tilly and Jill Masterson.
I like them. I mean, Honor Blackman, at first,
I didn't even remember that they had, well, sort
of had, a couple of sex scenes. I didn't even,
I mean, obviously it doesn't show it, but the
whole, hey, let's roll around in the hay. You
know that and then the end I I didn't even realize
that and I just I don't know I I really like
that I think I think she makes for an excellent
bond girl What about you? What do you think of
honor blackman is pussy galore actually? Yes,
I agree completely I think he's probably one
of the best bond girls and once she's completely
different than I think all the bond girls up
to this point she's not as like voluptuous or
Classically beautiful as like the fun girls that
we've seen like honey rider. She's she's more
of a personality. I think she's More subdued
and which I liked I know in the book she like
they definitely play up her sexuality I think
it's a lot more obvious that you know She she's
a lesbian and they kind of hit down that the
movie but they don't go They don't beat you over
the head. No. No, they just kind of hit at it
which Which is interesting, but I love her as
a bong girl. I like the fact she has a personality.
I think the performance is great. The only thing
I kind of wish they, in the script -wise, maybe
told us more about her motivations and why she
was working for Goldfinger, because I never really
understood why she was doing it in the first
place. Yeah, I mean, other than the fact that
at one point during the ruse, and I don't even
think she was in on the actual plan until the
very end. uh... because during the ruse wouldn't
there at his little well house here in in kentucky
yet uh... when they're here and she says something
to the affair he says some effect of her about
you know uh... you know you have more money or
what whatever else are you're getting your fair
share or whatever it was I just assumed that
her stake in it was money. Oh yeah, it was. It
was money because she said something about, you
know, I would buy an island and I would put up
an on trespassing sign. So I guess that could
kind of, she's going to go off and start Themyscira
2 women only. Yeah, you know, it's kind of funny
I don't know if you notice like her her blonde
You know bombshell pilots that a couple of those
were actually guys on wigs. They mean You couldn't
tell because you don't really see many close
-ups But a few of the shots are actually, you
know men wearing wearing blonde wigs, but uh,
so yeah, but I that's But yeah, that could be
a motivation. I guess it's money I just maybe
she never understood completely because what
his plan was because I figured it seems like
once she kind of got a better understanding Like
her allegiance has changed plus, you know James
Bond James Bond kind of helped the you know Yeah,
you helped her change teams in a number of different
ways. Well Okay, let's let's think this through
here They're at his they're at Goldfinger's little
estate there in Kentucky Goldfinger essentially
Walks James through the plan doesn't even monologue
about it just says mr. Bond figure it out for
yourself and bond figures it out so what could
have happened was As sad as sad and weird as
this is he was pillow -talking her to the point
of You're not getting rich He's going to destroy
The United States Gold Reserve. He's not you
know he probably told her the plan hence why
she You know called Washington etc. Etc. Etc.
So that's probably why they hurt outside of you
know the You know riding the hay You know outside
of the sexual escapades. That's probably why
she decided to You know be a turncoat on on Goldfinger.
Yeah, I think in part of that too. I think they
leave it up they kind of Don't let us in on the
roost so that ending is more more of a surprise.
So we don't really know Yeah, what's happening?
So that may be part of the reason that doesn't
fully explain what her reasoning is Overall I
love the film. It's great I mean, it's you know
as as JT said and as we've said it's by far one
of the best Bond movies that Has ever been and
that you know that Shirley Bassey song Goldfinger.
Oh my god. I love that song Yeah, I completely
agree when I think of bond songs It's like the
one I think of I think it it kind of set the
standard for what bond songs are. It's very very
bombastic It's kind of grandiose and but it still
has a little edge to it. I think it's it's one
of the best bond songs It's still to this day.
I think it's probably the best and I think originally
Adele song for Skyfall kind of it reminded me
kind of similar to it felt like it was a throwback
to To this song it's a little bit. I mean the
tone and the overall musicality is different,
but if it felt similar Yeah, and this was the
first toy our first first film as JT said that
Corgi toys made a toy of the Aston Martin And
I like how they're Like in the film franchise
so far how they are Breaking bond out of his
shell essentially cuz in dr. No, it's like oh,
you don't need that lady's gun take this This
is better and this you don't need that stupid
Bentley. Take this. This is better, you know,
yeah They've built up to the Q gadgets and I
think this is probably one of the One of the
best ones or at least one of the best cars he
gets is that the Aston Martin is the Aston Martin?
Yeah um all right uh let's see here uh for me
um i did not expect him to electrocute the guy
in the tub at all my note was oh flash in the
pan uh i I thought it was a really awesome and
funny scene when Connery has his way with Jill,
or Bond has his way with Jill, in the hotel room
because of the fact that Felix calls and she's
in the background whispering, et cetera, et cetera,
et cetera, and he just gently pushes her away.
I thought that was hilarious. Yeah, he can be
dismissive, but he's multi -talented. He can
kind of do a few things at once, as we see. That
freaks me the hell out, though, afterwards. Because
you don't know what it is. Anybody watching this
movie back then did anyone really know that that
until it was explained Did you really think that
was gold paint? I I wasn't sure what it was.
I Come in a golden, you know, it could have been
I don't know it just it didn't seem to be paint
to me but I and and again watching this movie
for the first time all the way through I Wasn't
even sure if I had known about that scene before
and because when I saw it I was like, holy shit
Yeah, it's a very striking image. I think when
I first saw it when I was younger, I don't think
I really realized it was gold paint. I thought
it was just like, oh, they turned her gold. I
figured that gold finger had the minus touch
where you could literally turn things gold. Because
it's hard to tell. And I mean, I know. there's
been like a there was a huge rumor that she actually
did die because of that gold paint because of
the rumor that you know if you cover yourself
in paint you then your body can't breathe and
you'll suffocate it's not necessarily true but
you can see why because of just how like frightening
that image is it just kind of comes out of nowhere
yeah um and of course you got odd job very very
cool one of them one of the better bond i wouldn't
well I guess he could be called a villain, because
essentially, I mean, yes, Bond has the fight
with Goldfinger on the plane, but that's just
a plane fight, you know. But odd job, he's more
than just your average henchman, so I would classify
him as more so the physical villain for Bond
in this, whereas Goldfinger is more the mental
villain. Yeah, definitely. He kind of we we realized
that Goldfinger can't match up with bond But
odd job certainly can and he's He kind of I always
figured odd job is kind of like a wrestling gimmick
took seriously Yeah, just the way he looks his
outfit, you know his classic hat and the character
the actor that played him in real life was an
actual wrestler and you can kind of tell because
he's really good at that physical acting he doesn't
say anything but through his body moments, his
body language, you can kind of, you know, see
his anger and he really does have his huge physical
presence where you're kind of like, I don't see
how Bon could possibly take out our job. And
he kind of, he kind of really doesn't. He kind
of has to cheat to get by him. Well, true. Yeah.
I still love the money penny bond chemistry.
That's, that's always nice to see. Yay, cube
branch. And this is where from this point forward,
There's two scenes in this movie that Goldeneye
didn't necessarily rip off, but they homaged.
Um, the cube ranch scene, if you, if you open
up two different YouTube video windows and you
look at Goldfinger and you look at Goldeneye,
you know, and you know, picture in picture, whatever
it's different situations, but it's pretty much
the same movement, same, same everything. And
I was like, Oh wow, I've seen this scene before,
but it was a different movie. Yeah, that's I
mean, I'm sure that's true. They're very yeah,
I do tie together pretty similar They're very
similar with one another And I love I love on
the golf course, I love the caddy he's so funny
James Bond makes golf fun. Yay. They've been
happy Gilmore probably only two people. Yeah,
exactly Again much like in was it was a dr. No,
I think I don't know one of the other ones that
we had already done I had I had really loved
the day. I think it was dr. No, I love the driving
scenes again in this one I love the driving scenes
as well, you know, it's not the the best chase,
but it's still it's still very cool to see that
that style from that era of What moviemaking
was with a you know? an action set piece like
that. I really enjoyed that. Yeah, a great use
of practical effects. They really had a lot of
great little gadgets with that Aston Martin.
You kind of can see where the game Inspire Hunter
came from. It probably was inspired a lot by
all those different things like the ejector seat,
the machine guns, the oil slicks and whatnot.
But yeah, that was a really fun action set piece.
Probably one of the better ones up to the Bond
franchise. I think it's one of the big reasons
this movie is so memorable is because of the
Aston Martin and that car chase sequence. Let's
see what else do I have for highlights here.
The ejector seat. I love that. It's so awesome.
I wrote this down, but I'm going to phrase it
more of a question. You must phrase your answer
in a formal question. Nice. The old lady, is
that Goldfinger's mom with the machine gun? That,
I don't know. Maybe it's supposed to be a question
we ask, but we don't have an answer to, but maybe.
Yeah, I just found that old scene hilarious.
Um, Pussyglaw, I must be dreaming. and that car
crushing oh my god the guy got crushed oh that's
just overall that's pretty much where my highlights
stop because I just by the time that the The
one mobster got crushed in at the car part. I
just started watching the film for fun So what
do you have for highlights? A lot of them we
touched on already. We talked about our job and
Goldfinger I think they make a perfect combination
of a henchman and villain Like I mentioned, we
know Goldfinger is not gonna go toe -to -toe
with bond and physicality or a fight So having
our job is kind of makes him a lot more of a
threat I think we mentioned with dr. No, I personally
didn't find him a threat to to bond but our job
to me is probably the best bond henchman maybe
not the best villain but easily the best henchman
um and he it's interesting that he throws a hat
and so easy to make fun of like as we see in
Austin Powers um but it if they play it straight
and it is rather frightening because it like
that could legitimately make sense because we
can see him like it as a character that would
have this like deadly hat carrying around because
of everything they show like how he can crush
golf balls and how he basically feels no pain.
So I love Odd Job. I think he's one of the best
parts of Goldfinger. I think we start seeing
a lot of the Bond tropes. Some of the... Bond
tropes are best handled with this movie. It starts,
we talked about the song, one of the best Bond
songs. I love the pre -title sequence. It lets
you know right away that this is gonna be a really
fun movie. Yeah, that was really an interesting
pre -title sequence and it was also an interesting
title sequence as well. The visuals on that were
really cool. Yeah, definitely, I agree. I love
the little camouflage with the... the duck or
the goose head, and then changing out from the
wetsuit into a tux immediately. I mean, that's
pretty pimp. And then the last fight where he's
with the one girl, and he's going to kiss her,
and then he sees a guy sneaking up on him through
her eye in that shot, which was a great shot,
because there's no computer effects. So that's
one they had to actually do. And I think that
was a great framing of that moment. I thought
that was a really great fight, too. But yeah,
we talked about the Aston Martin. Still, to this
day, I think it's the best Bond car. The classic
painting of Jill Madderson is still, I think,
one of the most iconic deaths in all of movies,
just seeing that image of her laying on the bed,
like, silently, and just covered in gold. It's
creepy as all hell, though. I mean, it's... I'm
not a horror guy at all. I don't... I don't do
horror movies, but if you put this in a slightly
different movie, that could almost be a horror
image. It could fit somewhere in a horror movie.
A classic horror movie, not that Saw crap. In
the final climax, they actually got me. I didn't
realize that they were tricking us and that the
knockout gas was a knockout gas and they were
just playing it for our movies. I was like, wow,
I was really surprised. Yeah, that was it was
really yeah, I was like and it will you kind
of They kind of almost give it away because after
the planes go over they call in Bob I you see
the trucks driving in and they drive right by
the the car that has Felix in it and it it Pulls
in to a close -up on them on those two guys Felix
and the other guy And I almost half expected
them to open their eyes. They didn't then, but
obviously they do later. No, I just absolutely
loved it. I still wonder, is that... Did Fort
Knox really let them film in there? I think it's
probably the only movie that has ever... They
didn't film inside they couldn't go inside. They
did a lot of outside establishing shots I think
they actually did know in Fort Knox a lot of
the flyover shots were actually Fort Knox But
they couldn't shoot inside Fort Knox actually
it's figured but yeah it I mean you can't really
tell because it's the the way they establish
with those shots, with those flyovers and how
they move into the final climax when they're
going into the base. That transition is pretty
seamless. The fact that we don't know or we question
it is a testament to their filmmaking. And then
also, like you mentioned it earlier, with Goldfinger
coming back. And I don't know if him having a
golden gun was supposed to be a lead -in to another
movie we'll eventually cover. And I don't think
he's nearly as threatening as that villain. But
it was kind of cool seeing the golden gun and
watching him get sucked out of a plane was rather
entertaining. So a lot of great highlights, a
lot of things we touched on. I really love Goldfinger.
Completely agree and understand why it's looked
as one of the best Bond movies ever made Yeah,
no I agree as far as some lowlights I have four
Now you you you praise the the practical effects
of of the beginning scene with with the The hotel
with the chick and the guy and everything else
I know it's just a film and all but I have to
call into question seeing the guy in the gleam
of her eye That just, I know it's a practical
and it's an awesome effect, but seriously, if
you're looking at this as James Bond is real
and this is real life to him, that's never going
to happen. Yeah, I agree. It's probably not something
that can actually happen in real life. But I
think it's kind of letting us know. Right away
that this isn't a real -life movie. It's completely
different than like Russia with lovers I think
it's played more straight. I mean the fact that
he goes from a wetsuit to a tux That's you know
with no wrinkles. It's you know, it looks amazing
I think that's kind of part of it. But yeah,
it's not something I think that could happen
I mean you can look in someone's eyes and see
reflection, but it being that distinct is probably
impossible Yeah, exactly. Um Now if the gas was
replaced to a placebo or to something non -lethal
that maybe just knocked them out. I'm thinking
this over in my head after I wrote the note down
because I was like, well, if if the gas was replaced,
why did everybody? You know, the car, OK, I guess
if you make someone unconscious as they're driving,
they're going to crash their car. But it just
it seems so weird to me that almost the entire
town is you know, knocked out. I don't know.
It just seemed too strange. I mean, I get the
plan. I understand the plan. But again, this
was before the whole switch was even revealed
to us. And I was like, well, crap, they're dead.
Holy, you know. And then the switch was real.
And I'm like, well, that's still, to me, that
didn't make any damn sense then. Yeah, I think
they tricked. I mean, when you watch it the first
time, I don't think you notice. But any of you
watches, it does kind of make sense. make a little
less sense. I think the big reason that we're
doing it is because they needed to verify that
he had the Nuke on site before they went after
him. But yeah, it kind of seems like if that
was the case, they kind of maybe played it a
little too thick if they were just pretending.
That's like that's kind of one of those hard
parts is how do you play the ruse and make it
seem like it surprises us, but then. Make it
seem like they're realistically playing the ruse.
It's a hard balance to strike Yeah, it is And
again, I have to slightly criticize the bond
versus odd job fight. It went on a little bit
too long because They're sitting here having
this knockdown dragon mount fight and bond is
pretty much trying everything and nothing is
working Yet this ticking nuclear time bomb is
ticking down As much as I love the fight I have
to criticize it for that because it's it Seems
like it goes on too long and yes, I agree bond
did kind of cheat at the end But again, he you
know, if you look at him in his assassin, you
know persona He is an assassin assassins do anything
they do to you know, they'll do anything to get
the job done But I just think if they took out
maybe two or three minutes of that fight. It
would have been slightly better Yeah, I could
understand that it does kind of It is a rather
long sequence with everything that's going on
at that moment because you have that fight going
on and you have you know the Marines kind of
Coming in and then you have a nuclear bomb all
happening all at the same time So I mean, yeah,
that's that's my main complaint is there's a
fucking nuclear bomb right next to you And you
two are sitting here beating eat well odd jobs
beating bond up But you know, I mean, it's just
yeah, I think and the last last complaint I have
is And I can say this because I am a fat guy.
Even with the plane cabin depressurized, there's
no way that fat man goldfinger would fit through
that window. There's no way. Even taking into
account of the pressure of being, say, 30 ,000
feet in the air, I'm sorry. There's no way. That
would have happened. Yeah, if the physics in
that moment was weren't exactly, you know 100
% realistic, but yeah I'm sure maybe he would
get stuck or would wouldn't nearly be as kind
of a Jerkin jerky moment or go sir as quickly
as he did out that window It was kind of I could
see if the door got knocked off of the plane,
you know what I mean? And then he flew out the
door. That's fine. I you know, I could see that
or if let's say because of the deep i don't think
this would happen but say because of the depressurization
the back half of the flint the plane somehow
got destroyed or something and i could see him
falling out of that way but the fact that he
got sucked through a plane window i don't buy
that at all i just don't i just don't buy that
at all uh... but overall love the film it's absolutely
amazing uh... is there anything else you want
to say about it or? Besides the Lilith you mentioned
some of them that kind of not bugged me they're
kind of more of nitpicks than anything uh...
in the second act i think Bonn kind of I think
he kind of gets lost in his own movie. He stops
being like the cog that keeps the things going.
And he ends up being more of a witness as he's
kind of captured. And things are happening. He's
watching them happen. But he spends a lot of
the second act just kind of being captured by
Goldfinger. It does lead to one of the best moments
in Bond history, the laser sequence where he's
strapped to the table. I love that moment and
how he got out of it, how he didn't use a Q gadget.
He had to kind of talk his way out of it, which
was cool. everything after that was kind of you
kind of waiting for bond to kind of have his
moment and it took a while for that to happen.
And the only other one be I felt there were too
many bond girls at times. I think it kind of
went a little bit little nuts You know, you had
pussy girl or his fighters you had Jill Anderson
Joe Madison and her sister which her sister's
character I think was one of the most Superfluous
characters in bond history and she was completely
pointless. She wasn't there that long She seemed
to be only there to let us know that our job
can kill someone with this because like that
seemed like The only point she was there was
to show us that the die really I felt her character
was rather pointless And there's there's there's
a few of those moments where like there's just
so many Sometimes bond has a tendency to have
too many characters You had a similar situation
with for Marsha with love and we'll have more
as we go on and I think this is guilty of that
same sin Yeah, I mean, having Jill's sister there,
I see that she wants to kill him because he killed
her sister. But as you said, it's essentially
a non -character. And they already showed that
Oddjob could kill somebody with the statue. I
mean, they already demonstrated that. And I actually
thought that when they killed... the sister,
I actually thought that she was decapitated.
No, because you see, okay, you see that first
scene with the statue and the statue gets decapitated.
You see the scene with them, an odd job and he
throws it and she just goes down immediately
and you don't see how she falls. So I original,
I was like, did he just decapitate her? Holy
shit. What i'd i kind of the opposite i wasn't
sure like did was she dead or is she just she
just knocked out i couldn't tell but i could
yeah i mean if you look back at what happened
with that statue logic would tell you that her
head would be knocked off and maybe if this you
know they could go for that our rating it would
have been but uh they obviously can't go there
i guess i figured you know what we we had a girl
covered in in gold paint i think we'll just kind
of make it look like she fell down that's not
let's let's keep it a little bit simple as we
kind of went crazy already so yeah But no, it
was very, very, very awesome. I absolutely love
the film. I think we're going to go to some ads
and some other stuff as well, and we'll come
back to close the show after this. We've installed
some rather interesting modifications. You see
this arm here? Now, open the top and inside are
your defense mechanism controls. Smoke screen,
oil slick, rear bulletproof screen, and left
and right front wing machine guns. Now, this
one I'm particularly keen about. You see the
gear lever here? Now, if you take the top off,
you'll find a little red button. Whatever you
do, don't touch it. No, why not? Because you
release this section of the roof and engage and
fire the passenger ejector seat. Ejector seat?
You're joking. I never joke about my work, 007.

really, really, really enjoyed Goldfinger. I
almost said golden eye. We're not there yet,
damn it. A very well -done Bond film. Thought
the story itself overall was very well written
it had you know beginning middle and it didn't
really lag for me like Normally when movies lag
for me is like when they're going so slow and
the plot isn't most one of the reasons why I
don't watch a lot of the old westerns because
to me that the time the timing of the old westerns
is just like Get on with it already Yeah, the
plot here is pretty straightforward what we'll
get to a plot that gets a lot more convoluted
than this one But this one's pretty it's you
know, you kind of know what's going on I mean
it there's some there's sort of a mystery to
it, but it's not just like, you know destroy
the world type of plot it's just like he just
wants to kind of you know become rich and he
has a different he's an Interesting method of
getting there. So Well, yeah, well, yeah, I mean
At first, I thought you were going the other
way. Yeah, he does want to get rich, but only
off of his own, what he already has. He doesn't
want to get rich by, which I like that. I think
that's very interesting. This isn't just, hey,
let's go in and raw. This isn't your average.
Again, the writing in this was very well done
because. This isn't your average, Hey, I'm going
to rob a bank and the biggest bank in the United
States is Fort Knox. I'm going to go rob Fort
Knox, but he's not actually doing that. Uh, you
know, I, I like that because if it was just out
of, Oh, my plan is to go in and rob Fort Knox
and share it with the mobs of the, of the, of
the U S is like, cause at first I was like, what
the hell? I was like, really? But no, the whole
twist was awesome. Yeah, we do have a couple
of questions and a couple of qualms about the
twist and how it went about her pussy galore
turning over and all that stuff. But overall,
at least for me to this point, this is my favorite
Connery film. It's freaking great. Yeah, I'm
right there with you, I think. You can understand
why it's so highly regarded with Bond fans and
critics in general, why it's the movie that kind
of made Bond into a phenomenon. I mean, Dr. No
and Fresh or Love are definitely successful,
but this was completely different. It really
upped the ante. I think those movies, you had
a different director, and I think this director...
When kind of thought like okay, let's not even
try to be a little realistic. Let's have fun
with this Let's kind of let the fans know we're
gonna kind of be larger than life and we get
about that I think is kind of the style that
continues and really continues when we hit the
Roger Moore movies So yeah, I loved it as well.
The qualms are small. I don't think it's a perfect
movie It's not it's but it's nearly a perfect
Bond movie if you'd look at the Bond recipe and
what we expect with Bond films In almost every
area, it hits it out of the park. The song, the
Bond girl, the Bond villain, the Bond henchman,
the Bond car, all those moments we look for in
a Bond movie, it has one of, if not the best,
in those categories. So it's a great movie. Very
awesome. We hope you enjoyed the Bond film review
