About this Episode

TFG1Mike and MovieRevolt Dan dive into Daniel Craig's debut as James Bond in Casino Royale, the franchise's hard reboot after four years away. They discuss Craig's raw, brutal take on the character, the film's return to practical stunts after Die Another Day's CGI overload, the central poker game and its pacing, and what the reboot means for Bond continuity. They also cover the cast, including Judi Dench's return as M, Eva Green as Vesper Lynd, and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, along with standout action sequences like the parkour chase.

Your file shows no kills, but to become a double

-o it takes two How did you die your contact

not well you needn't worry the second is Yes

Considerably The man was the chief private banker

to the world's terrorists Which would explain

how he could set up a high -stakes poker game

at Casino Royale in Montenegro. If he loses this

game, he'll have nowhere to run. You're the best

player in the service. The treasury has agreed

to stake you in the game. But if you lose, our

government will have directly financed terrorism.

I will be keeping my eye on our government's

money and off your perfectly formed house. You

noticed. I hope our little game isn't causing

you to perspire. It doesn't bother you killing

those people? Well, I wouldn't be very good at

my job if it did. How's our girl? Melted your

cold heart yet? James, get the girl out. You're

not going to let me in there. You've got your

armor back on. I have no armor left. You've stripped

it from me. Whatever is left of me. This is M

-Wire, movie we can review. on Twitter at audible

underscore com. And now the latest and greatest

in movies with MWIRE. Hello and welcome to shaken

not stirred and why are spot on the bond films?

Which is brought to you by the ecast radio network

and audible comm I am one of your hosts to do

and Mike and joining me as always is movie role

Dan. Hello. Hello Now in this new era of bond

JT was gonna be with us for all three of these

and sadly He Popped his cyanide tooth a little

too quickly. Oh wait, that's a reference for

a future film. Damn it At least I didn't blame

Canada he can't yell at me for not doing that

We are here we are here to talk about what I

am deeming the Wookie bitch era as you just heard

before our before our intro there Yeah Okay,

we gotta do history obviously with this intro

because 2002 was the last time we saw Bond in

Die Another Day, and yes, a lot of people didn't

like that movie, blah blah blah blah blah. And

it was Brosnan's last film, sadly. I still say

he could have done another one if they continued

in the quote -unquote classic Bond era. As I've

gone back and I've watched Casino Royale, Quantum

of Boredom, and yes, that's either Quantum of

Boredom or Quantum of Snoring, one of the two,

and Skyfall, I realize that with the first two

films in Craig's era, they seem to me to be,

not necessarily, because I know Casino was a

reboot and everything else, they to me seem like

they're in an alternate universe or an alternate

timeline or something because... It just... The

point of Casino Royale was to show Bond when

he was a little bit green. Not so much at the

point of what Bond was with Brosnan where he

was pretty much settled into the role and Bond

was pretty much settled into his job as far as

the character goes. This was showing Bond before

he became a 00. And I just, when I first heard

about this, I just didn't... I didn't care I

was like what the hell are they doing because

the whole point was hey let's essentially show

him in 1954 1957 or whenever the hell the damn

book and I'm not saying the book is bad whenever

Casino Royale was made or written or published

or whatever let's show him pre -Dr. No essentially

is what they're saying and Don't think it works

because of the simple fact that you want us to

believe that This is before bond got his double

o status yet. There's all this technology I mean

if you're gonna really make it a period piece

put it in there in that friggin period don't

I Don't think it was I don't think it was really

meant. I mean, it's not a hard reboot. It's this

is the The purpose of this movie is twofold One

is to reboot the franchise. It's you know, you

have at this point nearly 50 years of of movie

history and That's a lot a lot there. I think

it's and it's also to bring it to new generation

I think what it was upon always does it takes

what's popular at the time and It kind of follows

you but puts his own spin on it Yeah, this is

coming out when you know prequels are the new

thing, you know batman begins the redefining

characters or taking a character and putting

them into the modern age And that's what bond

has always done It's always redefined the character

every time a new bond is taken over The films

have changed like so more error is a lot different

than uh The connery the connery area era. Um,

uh, you know both uh... well dalton is that way

different than than brosman so yes no i i i understand

that and i get that i just don't like them trying

to say of i don't like them trying to have their

taking it to where they're saying this is before

he got his double o status but yet we have all

the it's set in the current essentially casino

royale plays up to the fucking fan theory All

these different people play the character of

James Bond in the universe. Yeah, I think I think

it kills a fan theory First of all, I think the

fan theory that theory is Completely it's it

just doesn't work. Here's the thing bond exists

in the world It was created in a world when continuity

was not a thing It didn't it didn't it was never

really considered people didn't have home media

back then you what you saw the movie You saw

it in theaters. You were not connecting the dots

little by little like we do now. We don't have

the internet They didn't have the internet. They

couldn't go home and watch the movie over and

over again So every film was procedural. They

didn't tie to one another. So I think what happens

is We're taking a franchise that existed during

that time period during that mindset and trying

to use our mindset to figure out Well how this

all connects bond was never really meant to connect.

Oh, these were just movies And that that was

their point like when they were never really

meant to have set pieces that connect to one

another As much as we make sure like yes There

was a history there and they tried to tie the

history and but they weren't like they weren't

Strict with their continuity. I don't think they

even considered that they just considered this.

Okay, we'll tie it here and again but I think

what what the purpose of casino Royale what it

boils down to is similar to what happened with

see like X -Men or Spider -Man 3 X -Men 3 or

Spider -Man 3 Those films are both financially

successful actually two of the more financially

successful films of the friend of those franchises,

but They left such a horrible taste in people's

mouths that I think the studio knew okay People

want something different They just can't return

back to what we they just saw because of they

were so disappointed and a lot of fans were disappointed

by die another day So I think they figured I

think they've gone as far as they could they

need to make bond new for new generation So let's

redefine the character and I don't I don't really

have an issue with that I guess maybe because

I'm not a bond loyalist and before like honestly

This is the era that I like got into I mean I

watched one before this but I was never there

were just movies to me I wasn't ever like a fan

of the franchise or just regular movies and honestly

when casino rail came out I was like you I didn't

like pay attention to it. I Just like I just

like died another day. So it's like I didn't

like pay attention I'm like, okay, they're just

trying to you know rehash what they did before

it wasn't till like I actually The year quantum

of solace came out that I finally sat down and

watched casino royale And I absolutely loved

it and really got me into the franchise and what

I kind of went back and we watched all bonds

movies from then because of casino royale and

what it did and I loved how it kind of took the

mount modern action and put it into a bond movie

and It was still loyal to the bond franchise,

but it wasn't beholden to it, which is why I

like that I Mean, yeah, I will agree with that

You know, and that's all well and good, but like,

I don't know, I just, it's not, and ladies and

gentlemen, for the listeners, you're gonna see

a complete paradigm shift in Shaken, Not Stirred

here, because whereas the Brosnan era is my era,

and I can almost pretty much overlook anything

wrong with that era. For the most part, there

are a few glaring mistakes in certain films.

Here, you're gonna have Dan pretty much praising

everything. in the Craig era, because that is

his era. That's the one that he likes the best

out of the modern stuff. I... I don't know. I

just... I went back and I watched it. I know

I did not see this in theaters. It wasn't...

I was like, who the hell is Daniel Craig? That's

not James Bond. That just... No. I was still

so hung up on Brosnan could have done one more

even... You know, even though they weren't in

this new direction, I thought that, no, they

shouldn't be going this way. They should be,

you know, doing something else or, you know.

And like you said, there is no, there was. Yes,

there are a couple of revenge films in the Bond

franchise, but there is no real continuity. You

know, you look at the Brosnan era, those are

four individual adventures that James Bond has.

Yeah, I mean, the only thing that really ties

together, I mean, there are little moments here

and there. Well, the characters between Bond,

Am, Q, R, Tanner, Robinson, the characters tie

the eras together, but the stories themselves

are all individual. Yeah. I mean, there are small

pieces from the stories like Bond getting married.

I mean, like you have certain callbacks and stuff

like that. Right, right. And you can have certain

callbacks, but Goldeneye is its own story. Goldeneye

has nothing to do with tomorrow never dies and

Etc. Etc. Etc. Yeah, they're basically they're

basically designed so you could walk You can

walk into any Bond movie that could be your first

Bond movie and you'd be able to enjoy the experience

Completely. Okay with not watching anything beforehand.

That's kind of like how they've always been designed

Yeah, and with casino and we'll kind of get into

this after JT gives us just the facts but with

casino because it is Rebooting and it is setting

up, you know the the quote -unquote retelling

of of the bond story and the franchise and and

everything else it It Essentially is a on her

majesty's secret service to is really what it

turns into honestly Or on her majesty's secret

service, but better I will give it that because

you have so many elements like you were saying

with with the callbacks and the homages. So let's

get the plot out of the way. Let's head it over

to JT and with his Justifacts and we'll be back

after this. To accomplish this, the soon -to

-be 007 is sent by his director, M, to cancel

Dryden an MI6 station chief in the city of Prague

that has been selling government secrets. Bond

waits quietly, concealed in the shadows of Dryden's

office for the crooked spy to arrive. Dryden

is surprised, but quickly recovers, taking a

gun from his desk door and trying to shoot Bond,

but to no avail, as Bond has removed the ammo.

Dryden settles back down and asks how his contact

died. 007 responding, not well. And we are treated

to a flashback where Bond engages in a vicious

drawn -out brawl in a men's room with Dryden's

contact. Bond ends the fight by seemingly drowning

the man in the sink. Returning to the present,

Dryden notes that Bond needs another kill to

achieve 00 status, with Bond responding as only

he can by quickly shooting Dryden dead. This

scene shifts back to the aftermath of the men's

room fight, where Dryden's contact suddenly rises

trying to shoot Bond, but the new 007 quickly

spins and shoots him first out of the classic

gun barrel intro. Meanwhile, in Uganda, a warlord

named Obano is impatiently waiting for a meeting

with Lashief, private banker to the world's terrorists.

When Obano asks when he'll arrive, the mysterious

Mr. White reminds him that his organization only

promised to set up the meeting. Lashief soon

arrives and makes final arrangements with Obano

as to how much of a return he can expect on his

investment, and how it can be accessed. The scene

then shifts to Madagascar, where Bond is on his

first assignment as a 00, tracking the whereabouts

of a bomb maker named Malaka. Bond and his partner

Carter survey Malaka at an illegal animal betting

match until the bomb maker leaves after noticing

Carter. Malaka is pursued by Bond onto a construction

site, which proves not to slow either man down.

Malaka, being an experienced free runner, nimbly

dodges and bounces around without slowing down,

while Bond pretty much just charges through anything

in his path. After he momentarily loses track

of Malaka, Bond trails him to the Nambutu embassy

where the bomb maker claims asylum. Not that

this slows 007 down as he violates any number

of international laws, not to mention blowing

his cover and entering the embassy and capturing

Malacca after disabling most of the guards. However,

when he tries to escape with Malacca, Bond is

cornered by embassy guards and is ordered by

the ambassador to let Malacca go. Bond fakes

his surrender, then shoots the bomb maker at

a gas tank and using the ensuing explosion to

make his escape. While waiting for the coast,

the clear Bond searches Malaka's backpack, which

contains one of his bombs and a cell phone, containing

a text from an American number with the word

ellipsis. Back in London, Em is absolutely furious

after being grilled by a parliamentary panel

about Bond's actions, and she's even more displeased

when she returns home to find Bond sitting in

her living room waiting for her. Em doesn't yet

realize that Bond broke into her apartment to

use her computer to trace the text, which originated

from the Bahamas. After she lectures him on proper

conduct and protocol, Em tells Bond to take a

vacation until the heat from the embassy debacle

cools down. Bond then heads to the Bahamas, tracking

the source of the text to the Ocean Club Resort

Hotel. After causing a ruckus in the parking

lot, Bond sneaks into the security office and

searches through security cam footage for someone

on their cell at the same time as Malaka getting

the text. Bond then discovers a man rolling up

to the club in a mint Aston Martin DB5 who sent

the text. Bond discovers the man's name is Dimitrios

after charming the lady desk clerk, also learning

he'll be there that evening at a poker game.

Bond enjoys the game, eventually winning the

Aston Martin from Dimitrios, and while Bond seduces

his wife Solange, Dimitrios meets with Lesheef

on his yacht. It seems Dimitrios is a middleman

for underworld figures who is providing yet another

bomber for Lesheef's operation. Demetrius then

calls his wife Solange and tells her he's heading

for Miami, right while she's making out with

Bond, and after she mentions where her husband's

going, 007 leaves and follows Demetrius to a

museum in Miami, where he leaves a bag for the

new bomber. Bond observes Demetrius leaving claim

key for the bag right before Demetrius gets the

drop on him with a knife. They struggle for a

moment, but Bond eventually overcomes him and

turns the blade on Demetrius, killing him. 007

quickly checks the bad guy's phone, seeing another

ellipsis text has been sent and goes to get the

claim key. But it's already been taken, and the

bag that Demetrius brought with him is gone as

well. Bond rushes outside, calling the text number,

scanning the crowd for the new bomber. When the

new bomber, Carlos, answers his phone, Bond sees

him and follows him to the airport. While tailing

the bomber, Bond is spotted by Carlos, who ducks

into a change room and switches into a security

guard uniform before entering a secure area off

the main concourse of the airport. Bond follows,

contacting Em and telling her to contact the

authorities about the bomb. She in turn tells

him that Carlos' target is a new prototype Skyliner

being unveiled at the airport that day. While

Bond searches for Carlos, the bomber activates

a sprinkler system as a diversion and makes his

way onto the tarmac, attaching a small explosive

device to a fuel truck. As Carlos heads for the

Skyfleet hangar, Bond quickly follows and jumps

on board the truck and tries to get control.

They engage in an intense struggle for control

of the truck, Carlos at one point almost kicking

Bond clear. And after he sets the truck to collide

with the Skyliner, Carlos leaves clear, and Bond

is able to gain control and stop it just short

of hitting the plane. While Carlos looks on as

Bond is arrested, he uses a remote to activate

the bomb, but hears it beeping from right behind

him, and realizes that Bond had found and attached

it to his belt during the struggle. He desperately

tries and fails to remove it before it explodes

and kills him, all the while Bond looking on

with a pleased look on his face. Upon returning

to the Ocean Club, Bond is met by M, who tells

him that Lachif has tortured and killed Solange,

who he believed talked to Bond. M suspects Lesheef

set the bombers into play to ensure the failure

of the new Skyliner prototype that was being

tested. M thinks Lesheef was shorting the stock

of the Skyfleet company in order to capitalize

on the downturn of the company's fortune once

the plane was destroyed. But after Bond stopped

his plans, LeChief would be scrambling to recoup

his losses of his customers' money before they

find out he's lost it all. To that end, the bankers

set up a high -stakes poker game at the Casino

Royale in Montenegro, with a $10 million buy

-in and another $5 million to buy your way back

in if you lose. Amtels Bond all this because

he's supposed to be the best poker player in

MI6, and therefore the best chance they have

of capturing LeChief so they can turn him for

information. Heading to Montenegro by train,

Bond is met by treasury agent Vesper Lind, who

has the final say on whether or not Bond will

use the extra five million to buy back in should

he lose. They banter back and forth as they travel,

flirting the whole time, with each commenting

on the other's personality. Posing as a married

couple when they arrive, Bond and Vesper are

met by Renee Mathis, a local MI6 operative. On

to the game, where Bond and the other players

are told the rules and procedure for accessing

the money, which is kept in Swiss bank accounts

that can only be accessed by the proper passwords.

While playing the first hand, Bond sacrifices

a large chunk of his stake to learn Lesheef's

tell, which is his touching of his left temple

near his injured eye when he bluffs. After folding

his hand, Bond orders a very familiar martini,

but for explaining this to Mathis and Vesper,

the latter believing Bond is wasting his money.

Mathis then passes 007 a small tracking device,

which he slips into Lesheef's inhaler. After

a few more hands, the dealer calls for a break

and Lesheef is whisked away to his hotel room

to see his girlfriend. But when he arrives, Obano

and a bodyguard confront him, the latter furious

over the way Lesheef has lost his money. Lesheef

swears Obano will get all his money back tomorrow,

presumably after he wins the poker game. Obano

and his men then leave, passing Bond and Vesper

in the hall, who have followed the tracker to

Lesheef's room. Abano's bodyguard sees Bond's

earpiece and opens fire, and the two terrorists

chase Bond and Vesper into the stairwell, where

Bond manages to drop the bodyguard over the railing

to his death. Abano proves to be a tougher opponent

as the fight carries Bond and him to the bottom

of the stairs, where Bond slaps a chokehold on

him, eventually choking him to death. After he

orders Vesper to get Mathis and tell him where

to find the bodies, Bonn cleans up and returns

to finish that evening's game. When he returns

to his room, he finds Vesper sitting in the shower,

shaking with shock and fear. Relays, and she

has never been exposed to such violence before.

Bonn comforts her as best he can. The next morning,

Bonn checks in with Mathis, who is disposed of

the bodies of Abano and his bodyguard in such

a way that unnerves Lesheev somewhat. But upon

returning to the game, Bonn soon loses his remaining

bank to Lesheev after misreading a bluff. Vesser,

possibly because of the previous evening, refuses

to issue Bond the 5 million to buy back in, and

Bond decides to get emotional and take out Lesheev

then and there. But he is stopped by Felix later,

one of the other players, revealing himself as

a CIA agent. Felix offers to buy Bond back in

if the CIA gets Lesheev afterwards. Back in the

game, Bond slowly rebuilds his bank and goes

after Lesheev, but the villain pulls off all

the stops and has his girlfriend poison 007's

martini with digitalis, which causes Bond to

experience a heart attack. Excusing himself from

the game, Bond makes his way to the Aston Martin

outside and attempts to use a built -in defibrillator

to shock his heart, but the machine fails because

it wasn't wired properly. After he passes out,

Vesper arrives and zaps him, bringing Bond back

from the edge. Shaken, but not stirred, Bond

returns for the final part of the game. Eventually

it's down to Bond, LaCheif, and two other players,

with almost the whole $150 million on the table.

After everyone goes all in, LaCheif seems to

win with a high order full house, but Bond beats

that with a high hand straight flush winning

the game. After letting Felix go after LaCheif,

Bond takes Vesper to celebrate, during which

Mathis checks in, letting him know that the CIA

has apprehended LaCheif and his entourage. However,

soon after Vesper leaves, Bond realizes that

Mathis must have been the one playing them, and

runs after her. Bon dashes outside in time to

see Vesper getting kidnapped by some thugs and

gives chase. Outside of the city, Bon nearly

catches up but wrecks his car to avoid running

over Vesper, who was left lying in the road.

Lashief and his men then arrive and capture Bon,

the evil banker telling Bon Nathis works for

him. Lashief has his lackey removed Bon's tracking

implant and takes him to a rusty old ship to

interrogate him by smacking Bon repeatedly in

the junk with a knotted piece of rope. Listen,

baby, I don't care if he is a fat bastard. You

don't give a man a shot in the pills. It's just

not cricket." Lashief demands to know where the

money is, and Bond repeatedly refuses even after

it seems like Vesper has been killed. Gunshots

then begin to ring out, and Mr. White enters

the room gun -drawn on Lashief. The banker pleads

with White, telling him he will get the money

back, but White is not listening, saying his

organization doesn't care about the money. It's

about who to trust, right before he shoots Lashief

in the head. After passing out from the pain,

Bond awakes in an MI6 controlled hospital. Mathis

comes to visit asking about what happened on

the boat, and he is soon taken away by some agents

to be questioned. Vesper arrives, her death having

been fake, and she and Bond confess their love

to each other. Resolving to sail away with Vesper,

Bond tenders his resignation to MI6 as the pair

sail to Venice, Italy. When Vesper goes to get

some money and supplies, Bond is contacted by

Em, who is surprised Bond is willing to leave.

She also asks when he's going to turn over the

poker money to MI6 and this starts the dominoes

falling as Bond figures out Vesper has been playing

him for a fool. He follows her and sees a rendezvous

and hands the stolen money over to a man named

Gettler. A sniper sees Bond and opens fire while

Gitler and others dash into a condemned building

on the edge of the canal. The ensuing gun battle

punctures the flotation collar around the building

and it begins to collapse into the water as Bond

and company fight on. Despite the overwhelming

odds, Bond kills all the gunmen and tries to

rescue Vesper, who has become trapped inside

an old elevator. Despite his best effort, Bond

is unable to save Vesper and she drowns, sacrificing

herself for her part in the plot. Bond is finally

able to force the doors open and bring Vesper

to the surface, but it's too late to revive her.

Overcome with grief, Bond fails to notice Mr.

White making off with the stolen money. Bond

then returns to the sailboat he and Vesper were

using and is contacted again by M, who tells

Bond it's been discovered that Vesper had a boyfriend

who was kidnapped by this mysterious organization

and was being forced to act as a mole. After

M tells him the trail has gone cold, Bond finds

Mr. White's cell phone number on Vesper's phone,

which he uses to track down the villain. And

when White arrives at a palatial estate in Northern

Italy, Bond is there waiting. He contacts White

using Vesper's phone and then kneecaps the son

of a bitch with an assault rifle while he's distracted.

As White painfully crawls to the front steps

of the mansion, Bond steps out of the shadows

announcing himself with only three words. The

name's Bond. James Bond. Based on the first of

Ian Fleming's novels, Casino Royale rolled into

theaters on November 14th, 2006, directed by

Martin Campbell, who returned to the franchise

after directing GoldenEye a decade earlier. The

film starred Daniel Craig as the newest 007,

Ava Green as Vesper Linde, Mads Mikkelsen as

Le Chiffre, Jeffrey Wright as the new Felix Leiter,

Giancarlo Giannini as Renée Mathis, and Judi

Dench as M. Casino Royale enjoyed a widespread

positive response upon its release and currently

holds a 95 % fresh rating on RottenTomatoes .com.

Many longtime fans and critics praised Craig's

performance of a less experienced James Bond,

as well as the reinvention of the whole 007 mythos.

Critics from Variety, Empire, and BBC Films all

described Daniel Craig as the first of all the

Bond actors to portray the characters Ian Fleming

wrote him. and Roger Ebert gave the film four

out of four stars, something he had never done

to a Bond film before. Ebert wrote that Craig

meets a superb Bond and his acting gave audiences

the sense of a hard man wounded by life and his

job who nevertheless cares about people and right

or wrong. Even Sir Roger Moore praised the new

Bond saying he liked the unrefined quality of

Craig's performance. Now many fans may not know

this, but besides being based on the first in

the 007 novel series, this is the first film

since Live and Let Die in 1973 to utilize all

of the main characters from the novel it's based

on. Not only that, but this is the first 007

film since Dr. No to not have naked dancing girls

in the intro sequence. Casino Royale also almost

had a shot in the arm from the original Bond

Sean Connery as the legendary actor was rumored

for a long time to direct direct this new Bond

feature. Not only that, Quentin Tarantino was

also rumored as wanting to direct the film, but

Tarantino refused to sign with the director's

guild. And while the role of Bond girl Vesperlyn

did go to Ava Green, producers also looked at

Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie for the role.

The theme song, You Know My Name, was composed

and sung by Chris Cornell, lead singer of Soundgarden

and Audioslave. Oddly enough, You Know My Name

is not included on the official soundtrack of

the film. Casino Royale was a breath of fresh

air for many fans, myself included. This reinvention

of the franchise brought 007 into the modern

day and did so wonderfully. Craig's performance

as 007 was masterfully done and is among my favorite

Bonds. It's smart, it's sexy, and the way he

rubs a little Sean Connery into his Bond James

Bond was inspired. This has been Just the Facts

for Casino Royale. I'm JT from Saskatoon. Back

to you, Mike. The man isn't even a true believer.

He's a gun for hire. And thanks to your overdeveloped

trigger finger, we have no idea who hired him

or why. And how the hell did you find out where

I lived? Same way I found out your name. I thought

M was a randomly assigned letter. I had no idea

it stood for... Out of one more syllable and

I'll have you killed. Thank you once again JT

for giving us those just the facts very very

awesome of you to do So and as always here in

chicken not stirred we even though JT mentions

the cast we're going to talk about the cast I

have to click on his name because I don't I don't

I honestly Couldn't tell you any other film outside

of these three outside of the Craig era Anything

else I've ever seen him in before this movie.

I honestly he's yeah Well before this he was

in another attempt at a franchise that didn't

really come through which was the Golden Compass

movie He was also and I think where I first Knew

him was and wrote your petition I have seen him

in something Lara Croft Tomb Raider. Well, there

you go. But yeah I think my first experience

with Daniel Craig was Road to Perdition and that

movie will actually come back in the last episode

because that was also directed by Sam Mendes

But yeah, I think that was my first experience

with him along with Golden Compass Golden Compass

is not that great of a movie But I think this

is really where he became a star before this.

I mean he was respected actor but nothing really

All that well known, but. Right, I'm not, yeah,

I'm not saying, I'm just saying that up until

I just looked at his Wikipedia page, I did not.

Yeah. I was sure I had never seen him in anything,

because I have not seen cowboys and aliens. Don't

bother. No. It's just not my cup of tea. Yeah.

I would say see Road to Perdition though because

that's that's an awesome movie But skip he's

not a huge part in it He it's kind of cool though

watching that and his performance in that and

you never get bond off of him and that movie

like with Pierce Brosnan You have Remington Steel

and that seems very like a bond character with

Craig not so much and I think There's a huge

uproar when he was cast, you know, like no one

wants to James blonde, but James blonde Yeah,

James blake or not none of like James blonde

gray because it over time he grays fast Something

I completely missed out on mentioning in in the

brazen era and I'll mention it here really quickly

since we're talking about the cast and you did

mention Pierce Yeah, Pierce from Remington Steel

to even Mrs. Doubtfire, even though it was before,

it was a couple years before he was Bond. After

he was Bond, and then he stopped being Bond in

99, was it in 99? Yeah. No, 2002. Right, no,

2002, but I'm trying to think. After The World

Is Not Enough, he also did Thomas Crown Affair.

Yes. And I was like, what's James? Why is James

Bond being an art thief? What the hell? But yeah,

yeah Daniel Craig I I was really really hesitant

and Really really like no. No, this is not my

bond. No way. This is what the hell Will say

that he does play the role very well in casino

because he is very raw This is probably the most

violent and raw we've ever seen the James Bond

character ever I mean sure, you know, there's

there's the scene in tomorrow never dies of I'm

just doing a job So am I boom, you know, yeah,

there's that but Craig's bond is is we he'll

he'll kill somebody just by looking at him. Yeah

Yeah, he seems to enjoy it more so than the other

pods like he Like, you know if he has the option

of punching someone or like just letting them

go He's gonna punch them just because I think

he enjoys the you know, the thrill of it. Yeah,

he's very um, he's very brutal Yeah, it really

takes the whole James Bond is a master assassin

for the British Secret Service to a whole new

level. I mean, we have never, throughout this

series here on MWIRE, have not acknowledged the

fact that James Bond is essentially a hired assassin,

for the most part. You know, so overall, it's

gonna take me time to get used to him. On the

rewatch for Casino, when I watched it before

we recorded, I watched it a couple days ago before

we recorded, Felt that because casino does kind

of come As I said in the introduction it can

to me it kind of feels like a on her majesty

secret service sequel But done better than that

film was Daniel Craig can actually act Like put

George Lazenby in that water when Vesper's dying

He wouldn't be able to act his way out of a fucking

paper bag. No like if but If you compare that

moment with like the end of Honor Emergency Secret

Service, you can tell just by Lazenby's performance

compared to Craig's just how much of a good actor

can make a moment so much better. Oh, yeah, so

much. What are your thoughts on Craig is Bond

in casino? I love I love Craig is Bond and I

love the journey He goes on with the character

not just in this film it but as all this films

up to this point You mentioned he's like I think

what he struggles with the most in a lot of ways

He's almost like an updated version of Dalton.

I think he's better than Dalton, but he struggles

with some of the same things that that Dalton

did Craig's not a very Much a suave type of guy.

He doesn't really have a swagger to him He's

not very like he struggles when it comes to the

community elements and I assume like that's because

Like that's the type of actor he is but as we

kind of see him get into this role, especially

in his last performance I think he kind of grows

into that and I think he kind of shows us Why

bond becomes the way he does and and this you

know, he's still green like we've mentioned.

He's still kind of learning how to become this

iconic character so i think he does it well because

he doesn't make he doesn't start his character

off of being james bond like we know james bond

he's still kind of becoming that person and i

think this movie shows us why bond is the way

he is and for certain aspects and i think the

relationship between him and ava grain who plays

vesper lend is a perfect example of how having

two quality actors can make a movie a Bond movie

better and I think it also kind of lends itself

to Us better understanding why bond is kind of

the love him and leave him type of character

and But so yeah, I love Craig. It's bond. He's

probably my personal favorite. I don't think

he's the best I think he can be like if he continues

down the road. He's going but He's probably my

personal favorite. He's what got me into this

franchise And then for Bond Girls, you've got

Eva Green as Vesper Linde. I liked just going

off my connecting this to On Her Majesty's Secret

Service, I like her acting better than what's

her names. I forget what the actress's name is

from On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Tracy yeah,

I I like Eva's stuff better than than the character

of Tracy I Thought she was a decent bond girl.

She's better than what we'll get tomorrow But

again they they they try to homage too much here

I think with her character because The problem

I have with, and I don't think I wrote this down

on my highlight, so I'll bring it up here, is

the problem I have with this movie with the two

of them, with Bond and Vesper, is that they make,

that they try to, the producers, writers, directors

try to make you think that they've known each,

like the whole time they're being together in

the movie timeline, that they've known each other

for months and that they're falling in love and

this, I just don't. I just don't buy it at all.

See, I guess I'm on the other end of that, because

I completely bought the relationship. And I think

you see a lot of evolution. And what I like about

Eva Green and her character is Vesper Lin, who

I think is honestly one of the best Bond girls.

I put her right beneath Tracy Bond from the 100

Emergency Secret Service. Actually, for those

that are wondering on the website I threw up

my favorite bond girls with all time and she

is right near the top and think what I like about

her is like she's a 21st century response to

the bond girl like into the bond franchise because

you see her kind of tear down bond to who in

what bond is her risk and respond to it and she's

just not someone who's going to Fall for bond

because he's this you know, because he's james

bond and he has the magical penis as people like

to say um, she's you know, she is a woman she

is someone who has an opinion who's strong -willed

and You kind of see like how? Everything around

her affects her and you kind of don't understand

it at first But as the plot kind of reveals itself

you see why? She is the way she is and I think

watching her grow along with bond is why I bought

that relationship. Um There's like the right

there's like a perfect example of it. Um, and

it's my highlight, but i'll mention it now There's

that moment where she sees bond kill someone

and she has to take part of it as well situation

she's never dealt with and then You see that

affect her. It's not just a moment. That's forgotten

She's like sitting in a shower completely torn

up by it because it's a it's a brutal situation

She's never dealt with before and she's sitting

there, you know clothes on and bond just walks

up to her put his arm around her and it's this

quiet moment, nothing said, but it's a moment

that's important. And actually to Craig's credit,

Daniel Craig, he's the one who originally, she

was supposed to be naked, I believe, and he was

like, well no, she should have her clothes on

because in this situation, it's not a moment

of sexual prowess, it's a moment of love, a moment

of comfort. And I think that moment works and

there's all those little moments like that that

makes me really buy into the relationship. Know

and I I agree with that statement, but I just

don't buy It's not necessarily her acting or

his acting it's more so the timeline of the film

Because this is supposed to be to the this whole

thing is supposed to be taking place what over

a week week and a half Maybe I mean about that.

I'm not one percent certain the actual timeline

I would think the overall like her meeting him

and then like where they end up I'd say like

at most maybe a month a little bit longer yeah

and i just don't i i just can't buy them yes

people do fall in love at first sight yes you

know but the whole exploits of them being together

in this film it makes it They want us to think

that it's longer than what it actually is, and

that's one of the reasons why I don't buy it.

It's not necessarily the acting, and it's not

necessarily the characters that I don't buy them

being in love. It's just the whole timeline thing

was a big... You've got Mads Mikkelsen as LaShief.

Yes, and I... Uh, he's like a forget. I don't

want to say Swedish, but I believe that's where

he's from. He's a really I I love him as lasheef.

Uh Well, what I like about lasheef is that he's

you know, there's so many bond villains that

they're put they're like, oh i'm gonna take over

the world or I want to destroy the world or what

have you or gain a million dollars and His character

his main goal is just to save his own ass, which

I love and I also love mad michelson. Um He's

really great in this one movie called Fall Hall

rising, which is you want to watch it's a little

movie watch fall Hall rising He doesn't say entire

words in the entire movie He plays this like

death Viking. But anyways, he's I love Ben Mickelson

He's a great actor and I think the chief is not

the most charismatic fun villain book It's one

of those shortly, but I find him kind of just

Fitting this world perfectly is a little bit

of a word quirk about him with his eye But overall

he's very realistic and I love his overall goal

and how he's just kind of he's kind of a he's

kind of a screw -up in a way Yeah, exactly I

liked it. I thought it was interesting I thought

The whole he cries blood that was a little yeah

that was a little bit on the nose it kind of

and like that just tell like his tell that he's

bluffing is that he's crying blood i'm like that's

a little bit that's a little bit much for for

this but uh you know i agree with that um i'm

getting into the first eon black actor to play

felix lighter is jeffrey wright You also had,

um, Bernie Casey in Never Say Never Again, which

was the non -Eon production. Um, I like him as

Felix. I, I've never really, I think because

where I started in the Bond franchise with Goldeneye,

with Jack Wade, at that point, I never really,

like I knew the name Felix lighter, but I never

really knew the whole relationship between him

and Bond. But since going back and watching them

in the different Felix's that we've had over

the years I would say that the one from License

and this one are my favorites And Jeffrey Wright

just does does an amazing job Yeah, he's one

of the most underrated actors like today's and

so many films, but he never he never seems like

Kind of he's just that guy He's that character

actor that shows up here and there and I think

he's great as as a fear X later Like he mentioned

and I probably put him near the top as well as

fitting that character And I love how they kept

what they keep with him, but hopefully we'll

see him again and reprise his role Yeah, you

know You've got Jean Carlo Janani has Renee Mathis

bonds contact in Montenegro I could have sworn

I've seen this guy in something else. I'm sure

honestly, before this I really didn't know much

about him. I could have sworn I saw him in something

else. Might have been Man on Fire from 2004.

I also thought he was, at one point I thought

he was in one of the Princess Diaries movies,

but that's not him. It's not the same guy. Mathis

is okay, I guess. Yeah, he falls in line with

all those other kind of local contacts. He's

there. I mean what kind of bugs me is like the

moment when they're in the card game and he's

like doing the play -by -play I get why it's

there, but it is kind of like you don't he's

kind of spelling out every little move in But

he's fine. I don't think he he does much he's

compared to everyone else in the family is kind

of just He's a lesser part and I think he's a

what he's a it's a lesser performance compared

to the majority of the people involved You know,

you've got Ivana Melsivec as Valenka Leshif's

girlfriend. Can we have Denise Richards back,

please? I don't know. These, okay, sure. You

know, Vesper, I get that. I don't get this chick

at all. Yeah, I mean she was she didn't like

do all that much luckily so she's just kind of

there for eye candy really Yeah, very much And

then there you got Jesper Christensen as mr.

White the liaison for the unnamed criminal organization

For what we do see of him in this film that was

pretty interesting and and he got his legs shot

up nice now the reason why i skipped over a very

important main character is because i wanted

to talk about this person last because i did

a little research before this a lot of people

when casino was announced complain a lot of people

still complain oh if this is a reboot why is

judy dench still there as m all right i'm gonna

point something out to you people and i know

i know people know this i know you people know

this you must um bernard lee who played M in

the classic Bond series, played M with Sean Connery,

George Lazenby, and Roger Moore. That M character

lasted for from 62 to 79. So for Judi Dench to

go from Brosnan to Craig, I honestly don't mind

it. I don't know if casino and quantum never

happened and then we just got a like like from

like from 2002 or yeah, yeah if the if there

was a Another hiatus of the franchise from 2002

to 2012 when we just got skyfall You know, I

could see people not making that much of a big

statement people made a big stink about her her

Coming back with it being essentially a quote

-unquote hard reboot to most people But I don't

mind it. I thought it was nice. Yeah again, I

think it's the Bond franchise not caring about

continuity which I personally I I'm I'm completely

for because I think People do get way too caught

up in that garbage. Honestly, I think continuity

It's the most overrated thing in the world and

I don't understand the idea of limiting storytelling

Just because you want things to tie together

perfectly Bottom line is judy dents is awesome

in this role and I think they saw that it's like

why she's still acting Why not just bring her

over? I think that was probably the reason they

did it just because she's awesome in it So if

you have a great actress who's great at a role

and she's gonna do it again Why not? You know,

I think that's what it came down to so I know

probably anchored a lot of fans and a lot of

people love continuity But I just to me it's

one of those things that bugs it just it's great

continuity is good in certain aspects like Like,

you need continuity in something like the 2002

He -Man cartoon, which had a very strict continuity

it followed. In Bond films, you don't necessarily

need continuity, because as we've already stated,

there's supposed to be individual missions that

may... Okay, sure. maybe what what what bond

would do would be you know he starts on one mission

in the pre -tidal sequence goes to another one

for the main part of the film at the end of the

film hey here's this new mission blah blah blah

blah that might lead into the second film it

might not you just don't know anytime you're

not seeing bond on screen he's off doing whatever

you know well whatever he does say uh... you

know if i don't like i get it with tv shows comic

book yeah and i don't i'm not saying Do you shouldn't

recognize what happened beforehand? I just think

it gets to the point where it's like Like oh

we can't have judy dench before because she was

in brazen and this is a reboot. We can't do it

again I just think it within like you look at

each era separately almost And yet together.

I just I don't know to me. It's just I didn't

I don't understand why would bother people if

she's good at the role then like isn't that to

me all as long as I'm getting a good movie with

good characters and good actors if a Little continuity

errors are here and there or things don't completely

match up. I don't really mind I guess I could

if you do you do but personally it's never been

a great with me Yeah getting into some production

gained the rights for Casino Royale in 1999 after

Sony Pictures Entertainment exchanged them for

MGM's rights to Spider -Man. Can you imagine

an MGM Spider -Man film with Sam Raimi attached

to it? Oh my god. Well, I think MGM could have

used some of that money so they didn't go bankrupt.

That was a bad move on MGM's part. Guess maybe

in the long run because how much money skyfall

man, they might make out better. But uh, yeah

It took forever. So I think that was the only

thing they could do. It's like, alright, well

We'll give you a spider -man for James Bond Okay,

so as far as casting Brosnan had originally signed

a deal for four films when he was cast in the

role of James Bond. This is fulfilled with the

production of Dying of the Day in 2002. However,

at this stage Brosnan was approaching his 50th

birthday and speculation began that the producers

were seeking to replace him with a younger actor.

Brosnan officially announced he was stepping

down in February 2005. At one point producer

Michael G. Wilson claimed that there was a list

of over 200 names being considered for his replacement.

Croatian actor Goran Vesnik, or I don't know,

auditioned for the role the same day as Craig,

but was reportedly unable to master a British

accent. Now see, that's what you're supposed

to do. If you can't get a fucking accent down,

you don't take the fucking job, you stupid model.

So yeah, obviously Craig is Bond. Okay, let's

let's talk about the music Damn good theme song

in this one. You got Chris Cornell lead singer

of sound garden and audio slave Doing you know

my name? That's probably one of my more favorite

Bond themes at least in the modern era Very very

awesome song. Yeah, I agree. It's very rocking.

It's very Kind of it sets the mood for this franchise

I think in this or this this new era of bond

kind of Amping up the energy and it's more edgy.

I guess you'd say and yeah, I love Chris canal

and So I love his voice and I think it's perfect

for that song Yeah, and and that's the thing,

you know Is it I'm trying to think if it's is

it the golden eye? I don't want one of the golden

eye posters. It's actually my It's actually my

my Facebook image, there was a GoldenEye poster

that has Brosnan, and it's got the 007 logo vertically

on it, and on the top it says, you know the name,

you know the number. I think it was from the

novelization, I don't know, it was one of the

GoldenEye promotional pictures, and it says,

you know the name, you know the number. And that's

kind of the point, because even in this new era,

everyone knows James Bond. Everyone knows who

007 is. He's been around the world a million

times. Obviously, I'm exaggerating there, but

he's been around the world so many times where

he can walk into any hotel in any city. Mr. Bond,

we have your suite available. Everyone knows

his name, and the song just fits the theme. It

fits as a great Bond theme. It fits the movie.

They actually... Use the songs main notes Kind

of replace the James Bond theme to represent

bonds youth and inexperience and I like that

I like that again like like what they did with

Live and let die and a view to a kill where they

use instrumental versions of the theme song throughout

the movie I like that. I thought that was great

Yeah, I definitely agree. I love the theme song

and overall the entire score for the movie Yep,

all right. So As obviously, you know, it was

released on DVD Blu -ray and all that good stuff

Apparently there was a cameo by Richard Branson

in the movie that I missed Where is that? It's

okay. Let's see here casino includes a cameo

by a British entrepreneur Richard Branson seen

being frisked at Miami Airport. The cameo was

cut out of the in -flight version shown on British

Airways in -flight entertainment systems, as

was a shot of the Virgin Atlantic aircraft Bronson

supplied. So apparently there was a cameo, then

there wasn't a cameo. I guess, I don't know,

not like a Bond film needs Richard Branson anyway.

Like we said, we already know his name. We don't

need Branson. Yeah, exactly All right, so getting

into getting into our highlights and lowlights

here So for my highlights Even though I vehemently

loathe this film when I first heard the new direction

They wanted to go in I have to admit that the

pre -title sequence in black and white in the

beginning and in the beginning chase That's just

awesome that whole black and white sequence.

That was so cool. That was so awesome Yeah, I

love the juxtaposition of like his first kill

and how like difficult and brutal and violent

it was and how hard he had to work for it compared

to a Second kill where he is a lot more calm

soothing and kind of he was comfortable with

it. It was just an easy kill like Those two compared

to one another worked seamlessly together and

it's kind of a ballsy way to start the franchise

I'm sure a lot of people when I first went to

see it. I remember when I first saw it I'm like

something broke my TV. Why is it black and white?

Because you know James Bond's never been in black

and white So I don't even it's not like they

were calling anything back because it's not like

maybe the old the original TV show but Episode

but yeah, I love that opening. I Heard a rumor

that if Quentin Tarantino had directed the film

he wanted it all to be in black and white I could

see that I I will quit in Tarantino, but I would

not want him to do a franchise. He's better doing

his own stuff Yeah, I can see him doing a bond

bond exploitation type of movie. But uh, I'm

not I wouldn't want him doing a bond movie So

the lady M has a husband we knew she had children

from one of the Brosnan era films But with the

reboot, I guess they're trying to make this a

retro film at the same time as keeping the tech

updated Thought that was really interesting showing

I mean of course this film shows more of her

her home life obviously bond breaks into her

house, but I thought that was interesting that

throughout this era we see more and more of Her

personal life like in the Brosnan that we never

saw any of that Yes, there was a reference to

her children But we never see her home life in

the Brosnan era and I like with the new direction

with what they're doing of You know M is not

just a person or not just a title. So I like

that. I love the bomb switch. That was an interesting

way to switch the bomb. I thought that was really

cool because that was pretty awesome. The overall

tone of the movie, the overall movie itself,

I really liked. I don't know, what about you

for highlights? First, I would say, I think one

of the biggest reasons I think I so easily grasped

onto this movie was the action, the way it was

shot. You know, I was a huge fan of the Bourne

franchise, War and Ultimatum is one of my favorite

action movies of all time. And they really took

its action. And that opened the... Second sequence

the chase sequence is one of the best action

sequences on all bond if that one if not the

best Parkour chase using like the person who

founded parkour as one of the characters and

a lot of that stuff actually was there was actual

stunts we talked about in Die Another Day how

they overuse CGI and how that kind of got away

from what Bond is known for and this they got

back to it and they were doing real -life stunts

and you had a guy jump off this entire huge crane

onto another platform. Yes, he probably saved

his harnesses but still it was someone really

trying to do something. I love that return of

that gritty action. It was great and it was a

good way to like introduce his character. There's

like this perfect moment where You see bond running

after someone and this guy just like quickly

Runs through this little like hole in the wall

gracefully and then bond comes and just burst

right through it Just with all force and it's

basically, you know Craig announcing just who

he is as a character Like he's not he's gonna

bust through things. He's going full force all

the time So I love that. I love overall that

sequence and also People I think forget about

the airplane sequence like you mentioned with

the switching of bonds But that overall the entire

chase done at that at the airport was Fantastic.

It was just as great Maybe not just as great,

but it's overlooked I think criminally because

of everything else that came before Also, look

the fact that we see bond do some detective work

he has when he breaks in and he finds out where

the call to where the call was recorded and he

uses he goes into the Security room with all

the cameras and he sees the videotape and he

matches up the camera The camera and the videotape

with when the call was received trying to figure

out who received the call and who it was I loved

how he did that and how he kind of got there

by pretending to be a valet because you're kind

of wondering like why is he pretending to be

a valet and You kind of find out that his whole

entire plan And we talked about we talked about

the cast we talked about Craig is bond and I

love the relationship between him and Vesper

I mean we and What else and I love how they incorporate

the Aston Martin, you know, that's one of the

most iconic bond cards you think bond You're

probably gonna think Aston Martin soon after

so how he wins it in a card game. That was pretty

awesome But yeah, I think overall I just I don't

know I think it was a great way for people like

me who maybe weren't bond enthusiasts to kind

of get into this character and See that you know

bonds far more than what we may think of there's

a lot more there than we give her credit for

Yeah, there is Did you have any lowlights for

casino? Honestly, not many of course, but I guess

my only really it's a small gripe, but we did

talk about how Bon is the most the best Card

player and all of MI6 and he ends up winning

like with a straight flush Which is one of the

best hands and poker so it's like that's not

really skill That's just having a good hand.

So it's kind of like, you know He builds us up

as a great kick card player But he never really

does anything to show it and we talked about

how the guys tell us that he's bleeding You know,

he is crying blood which is kind of you know,

it seems out of place for this movie But yeah,

other than that, um, I mean it is a little bit

long and I didn't mind it because I felt it packed

so much I mean especially that like it's almost

like a four act movie because it's kind of you

think it's over and then there's an entire separate

piece that leads into a Quantum that's like getting

tacked on on the end If you're like, I mean you

mentioned you're not really into the relationship

So if you're not into the relationship that final

piece could probably be tiresome because it's

really just based upon the relationship But I

think like if you're like me and you do like

their relationship, I think you would appreciate

it more So it really depends that final, you

know 30 minutes or so could either be too much

or it could enhance it So it really depends on

where you fall I thought the I thought the poker

game itself Was a little too long like They should

have Because they took two breaks in it, right?

Well, they took yeah They took I mean may have

been even more than two because you have that

you have that one break where he has to go away

That's another good highlight is when he gets

that drink and he asked do any that's supposed

to write. Yes He gets the drink. He has to You

know, he gets poisoned and he has to essentially

restart his heart He didn't put the wire in Vesper

comes up and she puts it in and presses the button

and saves him But what I'm saying is like there

was a first break It was like ladies and gentlemen,

we've been playing for four hours We will take

a break of one hour or whatever the hell the

guy said and then it seemed like after that before

the drink To me it seemed like there was another

There's just I just felt the poker scene was

way too long and for some strange reason The

whole time I kept flashing to rounders With with

Teddy KGB and his fucking Oreos every time the

sheaf would touch his eye with the tears of blood

You know, it's I'm like, yeah, where's Matt Damon

where you really need him? Well, yeah, I mean

I guess I kind of understood why I went long

cuz those separate pork your game is really Go

rather long and there's their sequences that

take a long time I mean this is coming out when

I think when for some reason poker became huge

it was like, you know, it was everywhere like

the world series of poker really kind of broke

out and just like to the mainstream so I think

it was trying to kind of capture that in a way

and yeah maybe they didn't need to go as in depth

with it as they did like I mentioned with um

what's his name when he was giving the play -by

-play like that was a little bit much they didn't

really need that I think we kind of we've seen

card games before we can kind of figure things

out on our own but yeah I mean it probably could

have been cut down I mean this movie is like

over two and a half hours so a little bit stronger

editing I think could have sharpened it a little

bit more but honestly Overall, I think there

aren't many things that really bothered me No

in the last 30 minutes, even though I don't and

it's not so I don't buy the Into their relationship.

It's just I don't buy the timeline. That's that's

what I don't buy But the last 30 minutes was

fine with me because it was mostly action I mean,

yes, there was the torture scene and all that

stuff. But You know once he finds out that she

essentially Double crossed him You know, I don't

mind that as far as lowlights for me I just I

don't know I just I Like certain aspects of the

film, but it's the casino was not a film. I will

go back to and watch again. It's just not It

I'm not saying it's a bad movie at all. It was

a good it was a good reboot. It was a good way

to introduce Craig is bond but I just I Just

don't feel like I'm still wanting more Brosnan.

I know I'm not gonna get it. I understand that

I'm gonna get over it. Don't don't get me wrong,

but I I just I just don't feel this film that

much it just doesn't and what the hell is quantum's

whole plot here Get get them, you know the sheaf

and and supposedly the organ unnamed organization

They just want their money back. That's it. Well,

basically, yeah Well, let's see his plan was

with that air airline basically that they were

going to destroy it and I'm I don't know much

about stock but doing that he would wake raking

a lot of money and That actually did happen on

September 11th a lot of people made a lot of

money because of that disaster and it was kind

of tying into that so The idea was he's gonna

make a lot of money if that plane was destroyed

and with a not being destroyed He ended up losing

everything. So really like he Has their money

and he kind of lost it all so they really just

I mean it is they just the only wants their money

back He has a debt and he needs to pay it. So

that's basically the entire plot of him trying

to Pay back that debt and then mi6 trying to

get Protect him in a way kind of use him as a

key to find out who quantum is By not letting

him win and making him and protecting him and

that's um, that's almost as bad as the plot and

live and let die Don't I don't think it's really

I think it's more simplistic and it's more it

I like how it ties into what really what really

happened like because that's that stuff really

did happen during September 11th with people

Gained a lot of money because of that disaster

and I like the fact that it is a basic just this

guy trying to save his own butt by Getting money

back. It's almost like a basically like a mob

like any other type of mob crime film where this

guy bars a lot of money He loses it and now used

to do everything he possibly can to get it back

or they're gonna, you know knock them off Mean,

it's a type of plot. We've seen stuff like that

all the time, but never really in a James Bond

movie Yeah, it just I don't know You know, I

don't know if it's because I've been reviewing

stuff for too long here on the key cast radio

network but there is some movies and some TV

shows and just some things where When you boil

it down the plot just Isn't as satisfying like

the like the villain plot isn't as satisfying

as you originally thought And I I get the connection

of the whole 9 -eleven thing and that's that's

you know That's it's actually kind of tragic

that they would make that a plot of a villain

plot of a Bond film honestly That they that yeah,

I don't know Let's go to some ads and some other

bond quips from Casino and we'll be back with

our final thoughts and close the show. And when

not gonna lie. It's one of my favorite Bond movies

It's what got me into the franchise. Like I mentioned

multiple times before I think it does really

well for eventing this franchise, but still staying

true. It's in most of the bond core I guess maybe

since I'm not a bond lawyer list. I don't See

a lot of the issues that many bond core fans

do a lot of friends who love the bond franchise

and Like like you aren't for some reason to consider.

I were out does not Fit sit well with them, which

I understand I mean seeing something you love

and seeing it kind of be changed is It's tough

to deal with at times. But for me not being a

bond loyalist I was I was all for it and I love

casino royale. So We I I I enjoyed watching it

again But as I said this really isn't one that

I would watch Maybe once every couple of years

Like this isn't a movie. I'm gonna sit down and

say okay. I need to watch this in June of 2013

I need to watch this in February of 20 if this

isn't one I can watch once a year This is maybe

something I could Not saying this against the

movie, but this is something I can you know if

it came on TV I could fall asleep to it or so

you know something like that, but this isn't

one that I would probably Watch again. I don't

think it's a bad movie. I don't think it's a

bad Bond movie I think it's a nice little way

to reboot the franchise but again because I was

so hung up on wanting another Brosnan film that

just that essentially clouded my my viewing of

this and I did when I went when I went back and

I rewatched it I went back with an open mind

I'm like okay I know Brosnan is no more he retired

fine whatever but I just I don't know I just

didn't like the direction that that they went

in so I don't know We hope you enjoyed the Bond

film review here in M .Y .R .E.'s Shaken on Stars

series and wish you'll join us tomorrow when

we will be talking about the quantum of boredom.
