You're listening to the geek cast radio network

of podcast Before there was Casper look it's

the state post marshmallow man before there was

flubber Before there was men in black. Hey, we

see a ghost there were only The Ghostbusters.

The city is headed for a disaster of biblical

proportion. Fire and brimstone. Earthquakes,

volcanoes. Dogs and cats living together. Mass

hysteria. Enough, I get the point. Celebrate

the 15th anniversary. We're gonna play Twister,

we're gonna do some breakdancing. Of one of the

funniest movies of all time. What are you supposed

to be, some kind of a cosmonaut? No, we're exterminators.

Somebody saw a cockroach up on 12th. Ghostbusters.

The movie that scared us with spirits. Generally,

you don't see that kind of behavior in a major

appliance. Wowed us with gadgets. Nice shootin',

Tex. And covered us with slime. He slimed me.

I feel so funky. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney

Weaver, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Annie Potts,

Ernie Hudson, in a film by Ivan Reitman. You

have been a participant in the biggest interdimensional

cross -rip since the Tunguska Blast of 1909?

Felt great. Also available, the sequel to the

runaway hit, Ghostbusters 2. We're the beautiful,

we're the only. Ghostbusters, 15th anniversary

collector's edition. Digitally remastered for

the first time ever. Well, there's something

you don't see every day. And Ghostbusters 2 on

videocassette and DVD. We came, we saw, we kicked

it. Welcome to the 70th episode of the M wire

movie we can review today. We're going to be

discussing the Ghostbusters films I am TF Joe

and Mike and I'm joined by Optobotomist. Hello,

sir. Good afternoon to you. How are you, sir?

I just got the shit scared out of me because

one of my cats just ran in from the front door

and Yeah, and messed up the screen and it freaked

me out. So I'm doing good now except I probably

have a heart condition And joining us not live

in the studio here is Pia. Hello, sir. Hey, how

you doing? I'm not really doing a lot. I'm just

sitting here with Transformers. Yeah, I've got

a fan of Toycast Godspeed from TFW sent me a

war for Cybertron Megatron, so I have him now

So that's pretty cool. That's cool. Yeah, so

this will actually this episode will actually

air on Halloween This is our 2010 Halloween episode

for M. Wire, which is Ghostbusters I thought

it was kind of cool and of course next year.

We're gonna do gremlins on Halloween It's a good

place to start yeah So, Ben, what have you been

up to? Working. Pretty much, man, I've been working.

I went and got a chance to go see Tucker and

Dale over the weekend, which is really, really

good. And that's about it. I went camping, and

then I came home, and I'm back to work. We shot

a video. We shot Gwar's new music video here

in town. Oh, cool. Just a few fangoria yesterday

morning at 9 a .m. Oh cool awesome Yeah, and

mr. YouTube nominated himself off to bottom us

She's been been been unfortunately was one of

the recipients of my Overzealous. Oh my god.

Oh my god. Look at what happened Yeah, I voted

for K dog Brandon or whatever that guy's name.

Nice. Thank you I'm just kidding. I actually

voted for you three different times on three

different computers. Oh, so it was three different

YouTube accounts? No, you don't have to have

a YouTube account. You can do it from the website

through that blog spot. Oh, okay. I use the computer

at home. I use my iPhone and I use the computer

at work. Nice. If you end up winning that thing,

like you're going to get a lot more of my videos

as responses. You mean as opposed to the way

it is now where mine are always responses to

yours? Yeah. This is obviously a very specific

podcast and I don't want to get too much into

it because Mike and I already talked about it

earlier today but it honestly does just blow

my mind that of all the YouTube partners that

are out there, they picked me to be one of the

four. Right. It literally just blows my mind.

And it's the first time they're doing it. And

I mean, Mike, you and I talked about this. If

it was, you know, the 80th time doing it, and

they're like, oh, well, shit, we've kind of run

out of people. Let's pick up the bottomists.

I mean, that would be one thing. But to be in

the inaugural group just blows my mind. I don't

know what the hell I did, but... I just had a

brainstorm. I know what it was. You un -privatized

a certain section of videos. Maybe that's what

it got you there. I un -privatized my Masters

of the Universe Classic reviews and YouTube was

so happy with that. Let's do this for Optobotamus.

Were your Masters of the Universe reviews private?

Yep. I privatized them after I got pissed off

at Matty. Oh, did you? After he got pissed off

with the Battle Cat debacle. Yeah, I was like,

I refuse to promote them or let anybody see my

reviews. So I... And then I've been, I've been

nagging him since he and I started recording

and doing stuff with GeekCast Radio. So I've

been nagging him and nagging him. Every time

we record, I always mention you have to un -privatize

those and he finally broke down and did it. He

has. So yes, M -Wire here. This is our Halloween

episode. We're going to be talking. I gotta go

shut my door because the lawnmower man is here

and I don't want it to interrupt. Okay. Uh, so

Ghostbusters, um, this, these films are awesome.

Yeah. Oh yeah. Ghostbusters are awesome films.

There we go. There's yeah, they're just amazing.

And of course we're kind of killing time here

just until Paul gets back. Yeah. It's just good

timing on that though. Oh, that's funny. I'm

sorry, sorry. Okay, I'm back. Sorry, sorry, sorry,

sorry. I had to close up everything. They should

have been here already, so that's why I didn't

think it was gonna be much of a problem, because

they're usually here around noon, but Bastard's

late. So, hi, hi, how are ya? Ben, are you still

there? I'm still here. Kira just walked in. Oh,

okay. Hey, Kara, can you say Ghostbusters are

cool? I know you already said that one though.

Who's your favorite Ghostbuster? You don't know?

Do you like Peter? Do you like Slimer? You don't

like Slimer? Do you like Winston? Do you like

Ray? Yeah, you like Ray. Is Ray your favorite?

Slimer scared me when I was a kid. Slumber technically

isn't a Ghostbuster, he's a ghost that they caught

and reformed. I know, I know. When I was a kid,

that was from the first Ghostbuster movie, all

of the things scared me. That thing scared everybody.

And the library ghost, the librarian, that one

freaked me out. Yeah, and it's funny, I never...

It's been so long since I've seen Ghostbusters

1 that when I was watching it before we recorded

this just to catch up, I don't remember maybe

the first half hour of the film. I didn't bother

watching it. I've seen it so many times. I know.

And that's one of the reasons why I had you guys

on this episode because you guys are the Ghostbuster

gurus here. For me, I remember most of the first

movie. When I put the DVD in earlier to watch

it, I'm like, I don't remember the first half

hour of this thing. I think I remember up to

the point where they get to the hunting slimer.

But like the whole library thing, I didn't remember

that at all. What the hell was that? You don't

you couldn't hear that I can hear it It sounded

like you're doing something you're not supposed

to be doing on air there, sir. Oh that was Yeah,

there's a scene in the library where Egon is

like distracted by something and Peter comes

up behind and he starts pounding on the table

Oh, yeah, okay. Yeah, that's oh you're here great

That was So yeah, it wasn't a very good impression.

Like I said, it sounded like something you shouldn't

be doing You're a disgusting pervert sir, has

any of us seen this in theaters? I know I haven't

because it was for I was for when it came out

So I saw I saw Ghostbusters 2 in theaters. Oh

Wow that ended up being exactly what I was expecting

Sorry. What? I'm looking at... It's gonna be

a tangent. Got it. Okay. Tangent. It was... Now

I'm distracted. No, I didn't. Oh, yeah. He's

like, I don't know about this. Like, well, it's

possible. And now, you know, he's like, Oh, my

parents came home from Florida yesterday. And,

oh, but they say I can't have Thunderwing until

Christmas. They only gave me the four that everybody

has and isn't Thunderwing. So. Whatever. Whatever.

Gotcha. Gotcha. Probably was. Yeah. None of us

actually ever saw the first film in theaters,

correct? Not the original, nope. What'd you say?

I think he said that he saw the first one in

the movie theater. You got really, really quiet

there, Ben. I haven't changed anything. Can you

hear me now? Now, now I can. A little bit, yeah.

Huh, I didn't do anything seriously. I haven't

changed a thing. I think it's Mike. We're gonna

know. No, it's not me. Give me the Halloween

episode. It's supposed to be Yeah, yeah I did

see the first one of the theaters. I saw the

second one of theaters, too Wow, you said how

old are you when you saw the first one? six seven

Yes, yeah, I would have been good. Well, how

old are you Ben? You're 31, right? I'm 33. Oh,

you're okay. You are older than he came out in

what 86 ain't no 84 84. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I was

I was seven Yeah, I would I would have been six

years old. I did not see it. I did see the second

one Yeah, I saw the second one too. So Let's

get into a little bit of setting the stage for

the audience here Ghostbusters is a 1984 American

comedy film written co -stars Dan Aykroyd and

Harold Ramis about three eccentric New York City

parapsychologists turned to ghost exterminators.

The film was released in the United States on

June 8th, 1984 and like several films of the

era, teamed Aykroyd and or Ramis with Bill Murray.

It was produced and directed by Ivan Reitman

who also directed Stripes. and stars Murray Ackroyd,

Ramis, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, Annie

Potts, and Ernie Hudson. The film made almost

$292 million in the United States alone. Also,

of course, it was followed by Ghostbusters II,

the sequel in 89, and two animated television

series, The Real Ghostbusters, later renamed

Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters. And Extreme

Ghostbusters, which we will not be talking about

whatsoever. I only caught half an episode of

Extreme Ghostbusters, I never got into it. Extreme

Ghostbusters is horrible. Worst animation series

ever. Oh, I don't know. Extreme Ghostbusters

is even worse than Scrappy Doo. Is it worse than

the Shaggy turns into a werewolf and they have

to race other monsters in the cartoon? Could

be, yeah. See? Yeah. It's worse than that. I

never even watched a fraction of it, so... I

guess that's how you say his name. And Lee Eisenberg,

the writing team best known for their work on

Curb Your Enthusiasm. I hate that show too. And

the American version of The Office. Ramus told

a Chicago Tribune columnist in 2008 that the

original film's four main cast members may have

minor on -screen roles. The concept is that the

old Ghostbusters would appear... In the film,

in some mentor capacity, the American Film Institute

ranked Ghostbusters 28th in its 100 years, 100

laughs list of film comedies. Well, that's setting

the stage here. And honestly, the plot's too

dang long, so I'm not even going to go through

any of the plot. I'm just going to read the back

of the DVD case. Suit up for classic comedy when

Drs. Venkman stands And spangler suddenly find

themselves downsized from a university's parapsychology

department. They decide to go in There you go,

they go into business for themselves basically

chasing down ghastly ghosts and unappetizing

apparitions in the occasional insolent I Don't

even know god. This is horrible. It's a good

thing is the Halloween episode because I suck

at this But the paratroopers of the paranormal

face their greatest challenge when the beautiful

Dana Barrett played by Sigourney Weaver discovers

her refrigerator door leads directly to the gates

of hell. Now with the old world watching, the

whole world watching, it's up to the Ghostbusters

to keep Manhattan from becoming a madhouse in

this hilariously haunting action comedy. That's

entirely inaccurate. The building itself was

the gateway to hell. Her fridge just had a little

window. I know. And some wanted eggs. And lots

of junk food. Lots of junk food. God, look at

all this junk food. You eat this stuff? She's

one of those people that she can eat all that

stuff and still look great. Yeah, that's very

true. That's very true. I mean, there was...

The thing that I loved so much about the Ghostbuster

movie, and subsequently I've heard interviews

with Bill Murray, who's come out and he has basically

said that he does not like the second movie,

and because of the sequel, he's very, very hesitant

to do any other sequels to the movie. He doesn't

like them. The first one had this, it was a time

when the comedy was, old school Saturday night

live type of stuff. Well the first one really,

I mean like one of the things that's great about

the first one is it was very character driven

and it was very uh uh you know it was very story

driven. I mean like the actually if you look

count the time they actually bust ghosts they

spend more time not busting ghosts than busting

ghosts in the movie you know like it was very

much just a straight up satirical, wry humor,

and it was really good. In my opinion, a very

golden age in terms of cinema. You had movies

like that where Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd, Harold

Ramis, Bill Murray, all of those guys came out

with some really good movies at that time in

history. And it's crazy what it could have been,

if you listen to some of the behind -the -scenes

stuff, because apparently Chevy Chase was originally

one of the people up for the role of Egon, and

Ray, I think, originally was supposed to be John

Belushi. Yep. Some of the original casting choices

were crazy for that. Right. All those actors

are phenomenal actors. were phenomenal actors

and I mean it could have really made the movie

a much different movie and it's often made me

wonder oh Eddie Murphy I think was gonna be Winston

they wrote the role right yeah yeah I mean it

would have been a completely different movie

but with those people it probably would have

been a good movie regardless Oh, yeah, I think

the script was solid enough that anybody who

had played those roles, it was going to be a

good movie. I mean, I think we lucked out. I

think the guys that ended up playing the roles

were the guys that needed to end up playing those

roles. Yeah, because, I mean, just looking back

on it, I mean, you know, you guys mentioned that

Chevy was supposed to be, or might have been

Egon. I'm sorry. He is too wacky to play that

straight -laced, serious... I don't know. I mean,

have you seen Fletch? Yeah, I've seen Fletch.

I was just about to say that, Ben, that Fletch

and Fletch Lives came out around the same time.

And it was, you know, I mean, all those actors,

those old Saturday Night Live guys, you know,

Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Martin Short, all

those guys came out with fantastic movies. And

I think we did get lucky. I think we got the

perfect people for those parts. But it's just

weird looking at it that seeing a list of people

that were up for it before and how we could have

had a completely different movie. And Ghostbusters,

there are certain movies in our history, I think,

that are very iconic. And I think Ghostbusters

is one of them. It's very rare that you're going

to run into somebody who doesn't know. Even younger

kids nowadays know what the Ghostbusters are.

They may not necessarily have seen the movies,

but they know who the Ghostbusters are. Oh, yeah.

When I think of like, Classic 80s movies that

like anybody in anybody who would recognize them

like Back to the Future certainly one of them.

Yeah that whole series Ghostbusters What's another

one I was gonna say like I like obviously Star

Wars, but I don't want to get into like Star

Wars It's technically not 80s. It's more like

70s. Yeah like 70s was 80s, but like Beverly

Hills Cop? Yeah, I mean there were a lot of really

good, you know, even Fletch, you know, there

were a lot of really good 80s You know movies

that got a sequel or two that were kind of movie

series that were just really solid funny movies,

right? And I think I think we did I think we

got a fantastic movie with Ghostbusters It was

the story was like like you said Ben, you know

I mean and I think and I even remember reading

or hearing an interview work with Phil Murray

where That's one of the things that he preferred

about the first one because it didn't rely a

lot on Special effects or anything like that.

It was just good storytelling and good comedy

to go along with it. It was them being themselves.

Yeah. You know, and that's basically it. And

he had so much fun with it that when the sequel

finally rolled around, they put all this extra

stuff into it, and he said that it took away

from what the first one was. And I agree with

it in that respect, but in terms of a sequel,

I still really like the second Ghostbusters movie.

Oh, same here. I will talk to people who will

just... Adamantly refused like there was never

a second Ghostbusters movie, you know, like really

I mean like I will agree that like If I only

had if I could only watch one of them for the

rest of my life I picked the first one hands

down right, but I mean like but the second one

what it wasn't a horrible movie I mean looking

at what they're doing to some movies and franchises

nowadays where they're just taking them and crapping

all over them I don't see why people get so adamant

about like there was never a second Ghostbusters

movie like it's some sort of horrible thing because

it really wasn't it had some more special effects

it it got a little bit it focused a little bit

more on the on the supernatural than Just the

individual characters being themselves, right?

But it wasn't a bad movie by any stretch No,

and we'll get to Ghostbusters to a little bit

later. We started talking about cast and stuff

So getting into the cast here, of course, as

I said before, you got Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd,

Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver,

Rick Moranis. Wow. When I first saw this, I was

like, really? Holy crap. Annie Potts. No, I mean,

holy crap in a good way, not in a bad way, because

the first thing that... Oh wow, Ivan Reitman

was the voice of Slimer? Holy crap, I know that.

So who's your favorite character out of the film?

You know, it came out in a time where, when I

was young, I was a big science kind of nerd.

It goes through. My favorite Transformer was

Wheeljack. My favorite Ninja Turtle was Donatello.

I instantly gravitated towards Egon, just for

his very stoic side. And one of my favorite lines

of any movie is when Egon is like, I collect

spores, molds, and fungus. And that's all he

does. That's just the way he is. And I absolutely

love that character. And being a big fan of Harold

Rintmister is ridiculously funny. And it really,

in my mind, speaks to the acting ability of him

that I can watch a movie like Stripes that came

out just a little bit before Ghostbusters. And

in Stripes, he's a completely goofy kind of guy,

still serious. But he's, you know, I mean, there's

a scene in Stripes where he's like, Hare Krishna,

Hare Krishna, and he's dancing around. And, you

know, then you watch it as Egon in Ghostbusters,

and he's a completely different person. And it's

amazing. And I just... I naturally gravitated

towards him and I thought he was always a very

good character and I absolutely loved him. Yeah,

Egon was a really solid character in those movies.

What about you, Ben? Who's your favorite? And

I'm just talking about favorite, not just specifically

favorite Ghostbusters, but favorite characters

overall for the movie. You know, like that one's

always a hard one. I mean, like I always liked

Egon. Egon wasn't my favorite when I first saw

the original movie. I really liked Rey. But I

really think I have to go with Venkman on this

one because I love Bill Murray and I just love

the reverence of his character. Yeah. Yeah. One

thing that I always found amazing about Peter

Venkman, the character of Peter Venkman, especially

played by Bill Murray, was that And I actually

I think he actually say it in the Ghostbusters

movie that oh, yeah, Dana says that she's like

you don't really you know strike me as assigned

you're more like a used -car salesman and That

thinks you said game show host. No. Yeah, that's

right, which is in my mind the same thing, you

know It's weird because it really is it you look

at him. You're like, okay, you're he because

he says that he's a doctor here He's got PhDs

in psychology and parapsychology. I'm like, how

about Did he get any kind of degrees in anything?

It's just one of those things where how could

he possibly have gotten through school without

screwing something up the whole time? He's such

a fun character to watch. When you're watching,

most people are probably going to recognize themselves

more as a Peter Makeman type of a person. And

I think he does a fantastic job of really being

able to bring the audience in and make everybody

in the cast. You know, you got Rey, you got Egon,

you got all these. But all of them are held together

by Peter. And that's why I've always said that

the thing that sucks with Bill Murray is that

if he's not in anything in the future with Ghostbusters...

I'm afraid that the whole thing will fall apart

because the Peter character and maybe even Bill

Murray himself is the glue that holds everybody

together. Yeah. And we'll talk about the future

of the franchise a little bit later. For me,

honestly, I'm going to cheat and say the four

of them because without... Huh? You can't do

that. It's my fucking podcast. I can do whatever

I want, damn it. The reason why I say that is

exactly what you were just saying. The four of

them together, they have, you know, of course

Winston came in a little bit later, but the three

of them, you know, they all have different quirks

and different, you know, things and stuff in

common and whatever else. And just the chemistry

that all four of them have with Janine and of

course with Dana and stuff like that is just

great. I gotta say, I... Completely forgot about

the the alarm bell and when I was watching earlier

I was like, oh, yeah. Hell. Yeah, that's awesome

Just just just that alarm bell sound. I would

love to have that in my apartment somewhere.

That would be awesome That would be a good doorbell.

Yeah, it would be That would be awesome. I need

to figure out how to do that somehow Somebody

rings the doorbell and you hear the the bell

going off and you hear a voice a female voice

screaming we got one Yeah, yeah now again me

because I don't remember a lot like I was really

surprised what the ecto looked like before it

was the ecto You know there's There's that really

good feature. I think they have it on the DVD

set I know they have it on the on the blu -ray

version where it's uh the restoration of the

ecto -1 Yeah, definitely on the blu -ray. I think

it is on the DVD set as well. It's it's fan.

It's phenomenal to look and see the the evolution

of that car and it's one of those things where

That car itself is almost as iconic as anything

else in the movie itself. Oh Yeah It's a beautiful

car that I think it's you know, it's an old Cadillac

hearse and They modified it and just made it

really it's really just a fantastic looking car

and Yeah, like I said, it's as iconic as anything

else in the movie itself One of the cameos that

well two of the two cameos that I really recognized

there's four actually there's roger grimsby larry

king joe franklin casey casum i noticed king

obviously right away in casey he was just on

the radio doing his top forty bit uh... but i

was like uh... so freaking cool There's a lot

to the you know, the the movie that you get some

because at the time, you know Larry King was

very big Casey Cason was very you know, it's

nice to get They do that a lot. I mean if you've

seen Iron Man 2, you know, there's that bit with

Bill O 'Reilly talking about Tony Stark I mean,

yeah, I mean like that's that what I was typically

especially back in the 80s. That was typical

to have some of the big News people especially

like I like like Johnny Carson and Larry King

were two of the big ones to show up in movies.

Now, I completely forgot until I watched this

film. Actually, I had watched it a few weekends

ago on Comedy Central. I always thought, and

I know these films just like you guys do, but

because I hadn't seen them in a long time, I

completely forgot. I know that... His view is

in the second one, but I also thought that Walter

Peck was in the second one I didn't remember

that he was in the first one. I was I'm I'm like

oh Okay, so that's Walter Peck. I was like where

the hell did he come from and I realized oh,

right It's the first film. Yes, it's true. This

man has no dick I Know he was in the first two

diehards as well. Yeah, he was But he's always

you know, that's the thing. He's always gonna

be Walter Peck. Oh, yeah. No, I saw something

What did I see him in I saw him in something

where he was like because you know He was the

kind of smarmy dickish professor and real genius.

He was the smarmy dickish EPA agent in Ghostbusters

He was the smarmy dickish reporter and in two

of the die -hard movies like and I saw him in

something recently He was actually like a nice

decent guy The most recent stuff that he's done

was I'm lost Oh, was he? Okay, well then. Yeah,

Lost was the most recent thing. He reprised Walter

in the Ghostbusters video game, which we'll talk

about a little bit later. Aces and Aids, Girl

Next Door, Lost and Legal, Into the Sun, Last

Samurai, Who's Your Daddy, Race to Space. Oh,

shut up. We don't need you here, Arnold. Biodome,

oh my god, that's right, he was in Biodome. Holy

crap. Holy crap, holy crap. So, let's move and

do, which, for this one, I don't really think

that there's, we've got a new, because MWIRE's

got a new format, the next segment is called

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and I don't

think there is bad and ugly in this. Unless you

count, um... Unless you count Lewis's weird stalker

ish tendencies Lewis was really weird in this

film He was a harmless little nerd. He was creepy

there wasn't he wasn't creepy you just It was

just it was amusing to see how Yeah, well, I

guess he was a little creepy see told you so

You know what I did? I just turned up my TV so

everyone would think it was just a problem that

everybody was having a problem with the TVs.

You know what? I climbed on the ledge and I tried

to turn the TV off but the window was locked

so you know what I did? You know what the sad

thing is? Spaceballs came out after this, didn't

it? Oh yeah. Okay. And sad thing is I remember

him most from as Dark Helmet rather than Lewis,

and it's like wow They are two totally different

characters, and it's like holy crap He's a good

actor oh Yeah, he's a very good actor I'm just

glad that he's coming out of retirement to be

in the third movie if they end up doing it yeah

Has he announced that he's gonna do that? He

announced that if they do the third movie, he'll

be on board for it. He'll do it. Oh, that's awesome.

Sweet. Yeah. Turned down. He turned down the

chance to do the Ghostbusters game. Well, the

thing was, he, um, he, um. What was I going to

say? Um. Crap. Oh, I mean, he retired like he

basically like quit Hollywood because, um. And

then I just found this out recently but but he

Quit Hollywood because his wife died. Oh Like

all of a sudden his wife died and so he quit

to raise his kids basically And that's why he

just kind of like, you know, he did honey I shrunk

the kids and then just kind of disappeared Yeah

For like 20 years, but he said he'd come out

of retirement to do Ghostbusters 3 that would

be awesome Paul, what's your favorite scene in

the first film? Favorite scene? You know, it's...

That's really kind of a tough one. Okay, what's

one of your favorite scenes? One of my favorite

scenes really is towards the end of the movie

after they screw up the containment unit and...

You got Lewis on the outside. He's like this

is it this you know it's a sign You know and

Jenny and they're like yeah, it's a sign all

right going out of business That whole that whole

sequence With the roof exploding and all the

special effects coming. I really like that. I

thought that was really nice Yeah, there's uh

There's a bunch of cool quotes in this movie.

Ben, what was one of your favorite scenes? I

like the Twinkie scene. The Twinkie scene. Where

he's talking about, like according to this morning's

reading, it means there would be a Twinkie approximately

35 feet long, weighing approximately 400 pounds.

And then they go through all that, and while

Peter's dealing with Walter Peck, and then he

comes down, and they're like, oh, so I just had

a deal with the EPA, blah, blah, blah, blah,

blah. It was like, yeah, you think that's bad.

Tell them about the Twinkie. What about the Twinkie?

Yeah. That's one thing, going back to characters

and such, the whole Ernie Hudson character itself.

Everything about Winston, it brings it down to

earth, it keeps it simple. Winston is the straight

guy. Winston is the one that's coming in from

the outside, and that's the thing. The three

of them... Peter, Rey, and Egon, they've all

known each other for a long time. And then Winston

is coming in for a job. No, absolutely. But he's

the guy who speaks to you in the real world terms.

He even does it in the second movie when they're

talking to the mayor. So it's you know, it's

it's that character. That's how he is he's he's

the layman for us and he breaks it all down and

Yeah, that I mean the Twinkie scene, you know

was just that was that was hilarious Very very

good Ray if someone asks you if you were a god

you say yes I mean we could have a whole podcast

Yeah, I'm actually looking at all the quotes

on IMDB, so It's just so so awesome alright so

getting back I want to talk about the music here

for a minute because one of the things that I

never knew That I brought that I had gotten from

Wikipedia apparently In autumn of 1984, Huey

Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism, claiming

Parker stole the melody from his 1983 song, I

Want a New Drug. Lewis had been approached to

compose the main theme song for the movie, but

he declined due to his work on the soundtrack

for Back to the Future. I'm just going by what

the stupid thing says on Wikipedia, whatever.

That's fine. The two musicians settled out of

court. It was reported in 2001 that Lewis allegedly

breached an agreement not to mention the original

suit during doing so on VH1's Behind the Music.

Most of that is true. Huey Lewis was originally

going to do the song and he cut out and basically,

fine, we'll use that one new drug and put Ghostbusters

on it. Right. And there was a lawsuit and all

that stuff. But his involvement with Back to

the Future did not come until much later. He

was not involved with Back to the Future at the

time. He got involved with Back to the Future

because when he saw what a big hit the Ghostbusters

theme became and they asked him if he wanted

to do a song for Back to the Future, he's like,

well, you know what? I missed out once. Maybe

I should do this and went on and did it. But

he didn't back out of Ghostbusters because he

was working on Back to the Future because Ghostbusters

is what made him do Back to the Future. And everybody

knows Ghostbusters. Everybody knows that theme

song. I actually play that like almost at least

once a day now. I don't know why I do so, but

it's just it's such a great theme song. Weirdo.

Oh, whatever, Mr. Random 80s YouTube whatever.

I don't know. What are you gonna say, Ben? I

said the video was really cool with all the cameos.

Like, Melissa Gilbert and Carly Simon and John

Candy and like all sorts of people in the Ghostbuster

in the actual music video. Yeah, it was cool.

It was very, very cool. I kind of already mentioned

the box office stuff. This actually made the

second most money besides Indiana Jones and the

Temple of Doom. Yeah, it was the second highest

grossing film of the year. Wow. Well, of course,

beating out Temple of Doom, that's not a very

big job. Temple of Doom sucked. Temple of Doom

wasn't very good. But I mean, here's the thing

though. You gotta put it in terms of context

that nobody knew that Temple of Doom was gonna

be crap and was gonna be followed by better movies

in the Indiana Jones world. It was Harrison Ford,

it was Steven Spielberg. I mean, these were huge

people fresh off of... you know george luke i

mean it was fresh off of um star wars so it you

know we we can look back now through the you

know the the looking glass of time and say yeah

temple of doom was terrible but that's not how

it was back when it first came out yeah oh yeah

but it's just oh man So we have a new rating

system here on MWIRE and we're dubbing it the

IGN Replacement Crew because IGN constantly has

horrible lists that they put out that they don't

know what the hell they're talking about. The

options are don't watch this even if it's free,

worth a watch if it's free on TV, worth adding

to the Netflix list, or this one is a must add

to your DVD collection. And I think all three

of us can agree that it's a must have for your

DVD collection. point where I have that two pack

set and I still went out and I bought the Blu

-ray for Ghostbusters and I want the Blu -ray

for Ghostbusters 2 to come out because I'll buy

that too. It's worth buying. Yeah, I actually

got I think three copies of it. How many? Three.

Yeah, see, I mean, it's worth buying multiple

times, not just buying the DVD. That's for darn

sure. Right, yeah. And I find it funny with the

back of the book. Our marshmallows always stay

puffed. Melt them, roast them, toast them. Stay

puffed marshmallows taste great no matter how

you eat them. Add them to your brownie recipes,

bake them in casseroles, stack them in s'mores,

or just eat them plain straight out of the bag.

Only 15 cents per bag. You know, Ben, didn't

you get the marshmallows not too long ago? Yeah.

Yeah, I just got some stay puffed marshmallows.

I don't think they were fifteen cents per bag

though, so that's false advertising. No, they

were like twenty dollars for twenty. How did

they taste? They were pretty good. They were

chock full of caffeine. Each little tiny square

marshmallow had about three cans worth of coke

or of caffeine, like two cups of coffee. Oh my

god. It would wake your ass up. Oh shit. Especially

if you have an overnight job. Yeah. Well you

know, that's gotta be convenient for you. Yeah,

it's just a shame that I ate them too fast. Did

you go through all of them? What? Did you go

through all of them? Did you eat them all? They've

since been eaten. I didn't eat them all in one

day or anything. Kira had a couple before we

realized how much caffeine was in them. Well

after she was bouncing off the walls? Yeah. Maybe

you should have put the Sonic costume on her

then when she was bouncing off the walls. And

we've kind of already mentioned that there's

been several releases for it. Apparently Ivan

Reitman was not happy with the laserdisc release

of the film because it pumped up the light level

so much you saw all the matte lines. He says,

I was embarrassed about it all these years. The

DVD version of the movie was released and became

one of the fastest selling units ever on Real

.com. Sony had announced at Comic -Con 2008 that

the Blu -ray version of the film was to be released

on October 21st, 2008. However, it was released

first through Sony Pictures campaign site Ghostbustersishiring

.com. I don't even think that's still active.

I don't know. Oh, I doubt it. As a way to drum

up sales of its release, the movie was released

on Blu -ray on June 16, 2009 and coincide with

the film's 25th anniversary. Ghostbusters was

the first film ever officially released on a

USB flash drive. The film was also released onto

YouTube for a week on a deal with Sony to provide

ad -supported full -length movies on YouTube

in August 2009, though it was only available

in the United States. So, that's pretty cool.

totally yes and final words our final thoughts

here on the first film Ben you can go first um

it's great buy it if you don't have it that that's

right i mean like there's nothing else to say

get it it's great yeah i love it it's good movie

i think we all can agree and now we are going

to go to the ghostbusters 2 trailer and we'll

be back after this at the stroke of midnight.

On New Year's Eve of the last decade of the 20th

century, America's largest city is about to pay

for the nastiness of its inhabitants. When that

day comes, When the slime starts to rise, When

ghosts start arriving by the boatload, I gotta

find the guys. There's only one thing to do.

Look out! Look out! Sometimes, weird things happen.

Someone has to deal with it. And who are you

gonna call? Suck in the guts, guys. We're the

Ghostbusters. The superstars of the supernatural

are back to nuke the spooks. Two in the box.

Ready to go. We'd be faster. They'd be slow.

Make some time. Don't put any of those old cheap

moves on me. No, no, no. It's different. I have

all new cheap moves. Raise your spirits. If we

don't do something by midnight, you will be remembered

in history as the man who let New York get sucked

down into the 10th level of hell. And kick some

slime. Looks like a giant jello mold. I hate

jello. Oh, come on. There's always room for jello.

Happy New Year! Close them. You're short, your

belly button sticks out too far, and you're a

terrible burden on your poor mother. Now we are

on to Ghostbusters 2 which is the 1989 science

fiction comedy film and is the sequel to Ghostbusters.

Produced and directed again by Ivan Reitman,

Ghostbusters 2 follows the further adventures

of the group of pyro -psychologists and their

organization which combats paranormal activities.

The sequel was originally to be called Ghostbusters

2 River of Slime. What was at the time the biggest

three -day opening weekend gross in history?

29 million four hundred seventy two thousand

ninety four dollars, which is equivalent to fifty

thousand eight hundred and sixty four dollars

Wow No, no fifty million. No, I'm sorry fifty

million eight hundred and sixty four. Oh god,

whatever. It's yeah Whatever. I made a lot of

money so This film I don't know. I find it really

weird because they it's not really the film overall,

but just the opening It's just like you know

you see the little Paramount logo, and then you

see a black screen in five years later It's like

no time It's almost like if they were to put

these films out back -to -back kind of like what

they kind of like they filmed the matrix two

and three back -to -back It's almost as if they

filmed them back -to -back but released them,

you know, five years apart. You know, the thing

that I instantly noticed on there and it was

rather strange because I remember I hated it

and now I actually love it. Ghostbusters 2 was

one of the first movies released in widescreen.

Yep. The two that immediately struck me in my

mind were Ghostbusters 2 and Innerspace, and

both of them were released in widescreen. And

I remember there was a bit of controversy back

then. People didn't like it. They're like, I

don't like seeing the bar there. And now it's

ironic because that's the only types of movies

that I do enjoy watching are widescreen movies.

That was that was the thing that I initially

first noticed what very soon as the movie started

off I said what are these bars doing and I'm

like they're staying here. They're not going

away. What's going on? Yeah first thing that

I noticed yeah, I First of all before the lynch

mom comes after me. Let me just say I know this

is gonna be controversial I actually loved the

second film a little bit more than the first

one That's your opinion. I'm just a little bit

Well, what do you feel that way because it first

of all is continuity? Obviously and everybody

knows that listens to this show or that has listened

to any of the other podcasts I do I'm a big person

on as far as continuity and not just single story

What? Sorry So yeah My only question when I was

watching these two films earlier, my only question

is like, we see Peter kiss Dana at the end of

the movie, of the first movie, and boom, five

years later she's got a kid. An infant kid. That's

what happens five years later. Huh? That's what

happens five years later. That's a long ass pregnancy.

You're assuming they explain they explained in

the second movie that that Oscar was not Peter's

kid Yeah, yeah, I explain that his dad was always

on tour He was like like they really kind of

implied that Oscar's dad was the the guy in the

first movie that Peter was all like you're looking

very pale though from the orchestra. Oh Yeah,

that could be There's a whole conversation about

that when they first show up. When all three

of them show up to see Oscar, they show up, and

she's like, don't tell Peter. But Peter pulls

Ray's ear, and Ray's like, all right, Dana Barrett.

And when they show up, Ray and Egon show up,

and then Peter's there. And there's a whole conversation

about Oscar's dad. Yeah. I love the beginning

of this because it's so hilarious. Because part

of it is that. After being sued by New York City

for property damage incurred during the battle

against Gozer five years earlier, the Ghostbusters

are now out of business and have incurred a restraining

order preventing them from investigating the

supernatural. Race Dance owns a occult bookstore

and does side work with Winston Zettimore as

unpopular children's entertainers. Who you gonna

call? He -Man! Where's He -Man? Aww, I thought

it was gonna be He -Man. That is hilarious. Oh

man, I could not stop laughing about two hours

ago when I saw that. That must be funny. And

then of course, Bray's like, let's go get a beer,

right in front of the kids. Oh man, oh god, this

movie is so great. So basically, there's ooze,

or slime. in a river below the city and apparently

it's um... psycho -mechanical or I don't know

it has something to do with uh... magnet theory

yeah there you go and of course it's you know

negative energy versus positive energy and there's

this like you know 14 million year old god stuck

in a painting and there's this you want to talk

about a creepy character oh my god Janos I love

Janos. He's Viggo! I just want to tell you that

everything you are doing is wrong. That guy was,

you know, I mean, in terms of villains, I mean,

you had Walter Peck in the first one, and then

Janos in the second one was just hilarious. And

they're like, Dana's not here. Everything about

that guy was hilarious. Walter Peck I can handle

cuz he's basically a douchebag, but Janos was

just downright strange I Mean he got creepy,

you know towards the end. He's like do you think

I could have the woman? It got it got creepy,

but he just he just made me laugh, you know And

then there's the whole line where where Peter

goes up to him and he's like, you know We took

we took our own headcount or no, that's not that's

not in that one or easily. Uh, what did he say?

He's like He ah shit. I can't remember it now.

Um, I had it and I lost it Which bit what's that

which bit which bit are you talking about? when

they when they when all the Ghostbusters first

go in there and Janos is you know like no no

no you know you can't be you know like slides

away on their slides are available on your way

to the gift shop and uh and then Peter looks

at him and says something says something along

the lines that you know that uh he's like where

are you from you know because he can't figure

he can't figure him out and uh you know he's

like where where are you from and then Janos

is like the upper west side It's just it's just

every the interaction between Bill Murray and

I don't even know the guy's name We're just kind

of calling me almost it's just fantastic comedy

I just thought when they first show up and the

security guard is like Peter Venkman world of

the psychic like I love that show Like really

you you and bass fishing are my two favorite

shows or something like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,

I know no bass masters. Yeah He's like he's like

it's a fishing show Yeah, yeah, I know. I know

Bassmasters. Yeah. It's great. Good stuff. And

also, that's one of the things that I noticed

when I was watching it on Peter's episode of

World of the Psychic. One of the one of the one

of the guests on the show is Sam's dad from the

Transformers movies. Yep. I was going to say

that. Yeah. Kevin Dunn. Yeah. He's been in a

lot of stuff that I like. He you know and everybody

forgets that you know I mean he's the one who

did predict that the world will end at the stroke

of Midnight on New Year's Eve this year he predicted

that so There you go, but he was wrong because

the Ghostbusters stopped it But if the Ghostbusters

weren't there Yeah, it could have happened. It

could have happened. Yeah, hey for the Statue

of Liberty the world would have ended on New

Year's Eve So Liberty, save this again. Yeah.

Um, the line that Paul was trying to come up

with obviously is, where in the hell are you

from anyway, Johnny? The upper vest side. Yeah.

Absolutely great. Ah. Soon the city would be

mine and Vigo's, mainly Vigo's. And Vigo's. You

know, maybe it's the guy's accent, but it just

cracks me up. It is, but, and I will agree, he

is fairly funny because of the accent, but the

character on a whole, especially when Vigo is

controlling him, he's creepy. No, there's no

doubt. There's no doubt. I love the whole courtroom

scene. That is so awesome. Yeah, the courtroom

scene is good. Oh my god, it's the Scaleri brothers!

Yeah, Harry, I can't think of his name. Harry

Stanton, is it? No. Harry something or other

is that guy's name. The judge, you mean? Yeah.

Yeah, I have seen him in other stuff as well,

but he is just awesome. Speaking of, we haven't

really talked about this yet, but speaking of

the courtroom scene, Octobotimus, didn't you

just get that in the mail? The what? The Ghostbusters

2 courtroom figures? No, those aren't out yet.

Oh, they aren't? No, that doesn't come out until

the January, I think. I got the Ghostbusters

2 four -pack from Toys R Us. Right, isn't that

the courtroom stuff? No. No, it's just the dark

gray outfits they wore and like... one scene,

like during the montage in Ghostbusters 2. Oh,

OK. The faces, Ben, are better than any of the

Maddie Collector ones. Oh, yeah. Well, they all

look more or less the same to me. I mean, Peter

looks better because he's not the slime diverse.

Right, yeah. But the paint job on their faces,

it has a whole lot more of a flesh tone to it.

It looks really good. Yeah. I haven't opened

them yet, but they also come with little Santa

hats. It's a nice looking set. And I find it

funny that they would start digging under the

city. It's just hilarious. And of course they

leave Ray down there half the time because they're

arguing with the cop or whatever. There's a lot

of really good comedy that's in it, and it's

a really fun movie. It's very entertaining. I

mean, there's some things in there that, you

know, I was like, eh, you know, it kind of slowed

things down. Towards the end of the movie, I

kind of thought it seemed to have lost speed

for me. It kind of slowed down, and I thought

the whole Statue of Liberty part on it was kind

of a cop -out. I just thought it was too easy

of an out. Well, what kind of, you know, symbol

of goodness are you gonna think of in New York

City? I mean, it's not like you can bring Yankee

Stadium to life. That's a bed of negativity right

there. Yeah, I know, but what I'm saying is,

I mean, it's already New Year's. That already

should have everybody in a good mood. Maybe they

weren't drunk yet. No, it was close enough to

midnight. They were pretty much wasted That's

that's funny So favorite scenes in this one Ben.

What are some of your favorite scenes out of

the second one? Yep, I Like the toaster scene

yeah, that was hilarious Toaster scene was pretty

good too. I'm trying to think There's a lot of

good scenes in that one not like makes the opening

scene with the kids I thought was gonna be human

He man he man he man yeah, and then they start

chanting he man is like yeah For rain Winston

or just like Something you know, they're they're

they're singing just kind of like and what it's

racy is I let's go get a beer. Yep. Yeah I like

the When Peter is taunting the painting Yeah,

that's good. He's taking pictures of it. Yeah

Yeah, that's good. I like the the bit where Sigourney

Weaver asked Peter if he wants to put Oscar down.

It's like, you're short, ugly, and you're a terrible

burden on your poor mother. Yeah. And he said

he just cleaned his little finger. And yeah,

that's pretty good. I mean, there's so much that's

funny. Again, me being such an Egon fan, around

that same time, they're in there. And we find

out that Egon, he walks in. He's like, oh, how

cheerful. He's like, my parents never believed

in toys. And they never gave him toys, basically.

And Ray walks up and he's like, you never even

had a Slinky? He's like, we had part of a Slinky

once. Then I straightened it. I mean, that's

just typical of what something Egon would say.

There's one guy in here. I forget who it is.

Let me see here. Oh, man. The guy that plays

the mayor's assistant. You guys know who I'm

talking about. He was in friggin' Wayne's World.

Yeah, he was in Wayne's World. I forget what

his damn name is, but I've seen him in tons of

stuff. He's the antagonist in a lot of movies.

He was one of the big monsters in Little Monsters,

if you ever saw that movie. I mean there really

isn't that I mean as far as the cast stuff there

really isn't that much else to talk about I mean

you've got obviously all the Ghostbusters you've

got Dana back you've got Louis and Slimer back

and everything else but honestly what I hated

really was the fact that Annie Potts cut her

hair and the fact that they had this whole relationship

between her and her and Louis that I thought

was a slow part of the movie. Yeah, it was good

to see Lewis get a little action. Oh, I like

that Yeah, well he was the key master in the

last movie. I mean how much more action can you

get? There's this I can't believe this one had

a sound I don't know if the first one did but

This one has a soundtrack and a score album.

Oh, hot damn. What? You didn't know that? No,

no, no, no, no. I was just looking this up. I

was trying to find out that that guy we were

talking about. Oh. But apparently there were

deleted scenes featuring Eugene Levy as Sherman

Tully, a relative of Lewis. Are you serious?

Now yeah, well yeah, well yeah, I mean like I

can't believe it, but yeah, I'm serious. It's

right there Kurt Fuller is the guy's name That

was the antagonist guy Yeah, Kurt. Yeah, Kurt

Fuller. Yeah I'll see it'd be nice like like

the first DVD has deleted scenes on here I don't

know if it's from both films or just the first

film the second DVD only has Two episodes from

Ghostbusters are the real Ghostbusters. That's

all it has Yeah Mean that's what that's why they

got to come out with the blu -ray report so that

they can have a whole bunch of extra features

Oh, yeah, those it was it I mean I've always

been a big fan of those kind of things III Sometimes

wish that they would almost finish those scenes

and put them back into the movies A couple of

movies that have gone back and done that Yeah,

like directors cut and stuff like that The biggest

that I can think of are the the Lord of the Rings

Extended editions. I mean they added hours to

those three movies Well, but they shot those,

and they fully intended to do a special release

on DVD with all those scenes in it. Like, it

wasn't like they just pulled up, like, archival

footage and stuck them back in. Apparently, they're

doing that with the, um... When they're re -releasing

Star Wars in 3D, they're re -releasing, like,

putting some scenes back into that. Like, especially

Jedi, where, like, you actually see Luke building

his lightsaber. Yeah, I heard that, too. Yeah.

The other one that I can think of that they did

that with was Terminator 2 and I think the first

Terminator where they put scenes back into the

movies for extended editions. So notable cast

members in the film include one of Bill Murray's

siblings Brian Doyle Murray who played the psychiatric

doctor and Ben Stein who played a public works

official for the mayor. Oh, wow. Cheech Marin

and Philip Baker Hill also appear in the movie

as the doc supervisor who sees the Titanic come

in as the city police chief. Oh, wow. Bobby Brown.

Oh, wow. Bobby Brown was a doorman. Yeah, he

was a doorman at the mayor's mansion. He's like,

hey, man, the Ghostbusters, hey, can I get one

of those proton packs for my kid brother? She

really wants one of those. And then Egon, of

course, he's like, the proton pack is not a toy.

And Ray's like, yeah, he's right. Yeah. You know,

that was one of my problems. And I know we're

talking about the second movie now. But one of

my problems with the first film is Egon or Ray

specifically says it's something like some sort

of nuclear something or other. their back Nuclear

accelerator and both Ray and Venkman are going

around the damn hotel floor with cigarettes in

their mouths And I'm thinking you're smoking

while you have a piece of nuclear equipment attached

to your back I mean like a nuclear A nuclear

reaction is not going to get started by a cigarette.

You know what I mean? If a nuclear bomb is going

to go off, it's not going to do it because you

smoked too quickly. Well, and I'm not trying

to have a whole debate on cigarette smoking,

but it just, I don't know. You know, nuclear

to me says bad, and I know it's not highly flammable,

but I mean, you know, it could have been considering

when Peter first fired on Slimer. And he missed

him, the whole wall in the first film caught

on fire. I know it's a nitpick on my part. I

think you're overanalyzing a science fiction

movie a little bit too much. Like I said, I know

it's a nitpick on my part, but it just, I don't

know, it just kind of bugged me. How would we

rate this one? Is this a must -add to the collection?

Again, it's in my opinion. It's worth buying

whatever new version comes out that has one little

extra special bonus feature. Yeah Whatever comes

out for you know, like somebody actually criticized

me the other day for buying the back to the future

blu -rays and I'm like why he's like well because

you can buy the DVDs for five bucks I'm like

but this had these have more features, you know,

he's like so you're paying that extra just for

a couple extra features and I'm like pretty much

yeah and I'm happy with it and if they did that

with the Ghostbusters I'd do the same damn thing

and I can control them with my iPhone yeah exactly

that's pretty cool it has back to the future

the ride on there it does it's good stuff See,

I wish the DVDs would have, I wish the second

DVD would have, actually both of them would have

this. At the end of the version shown in theaters,

Slimer comes out from behind the Statue of Liberty

and goes straight into the camera as he did at

the end of Ghostbusters. The video version ends

with a pan up to the statue's head and then a

fade to black. Which sucks. Also in an unusual

move, Slimer has his own cast billing in the

credits. Well, yeah. Oh, man. Yeah, Ghostbusters

and Ghostbusters 2, easily, you know, we've kind

of already said it a little bit here, easily

two of the best films and actually one of the

best franchises of films pretty much for a very

long time. I mean, it's just great. As far as

some merchandising, as we've already said, Ghostbusters

2 is on DVD, it's in the gift pack, and it probably

will be released on Blu -ray at some point, we

don't know when. There was a comic book adaptation,

there was a couple of TV series, there was a

novelization of the movie by Ed Naha, and of

course there was the, there's a bunch of video

games, but there was also Ghostbusters the video

game, which Takes place two years after the events

of Ghostbusters 2 and was released in 2009 a

third movie is currently under development What

happens in the Ghostbusters game because I've

never actually played it Basically Ivo Shandor

the guy who designed Dana Barrett's apartment

building apparently also designed a bunch of

architecture around New York and basically like

he's got some acolytes that are trying to like

resurrect him so he can become, like, the architect,

this great, like, kind of arc demon. And he's

trying to stop it, basically, is what the basic

plot of that is. There's an Evo Shandor exhibit.

Melissa Milano plays, like, a descendant of Shandor

that they're trying to catch to use her blood

to resurrect him or something like that. Right.

But the game was a lot of fun. The game was a

lot of fun. Yeah. It was very entertaining. One

thing I will say is that I was... um kind of

kind of let down with the end the end boss but

uh i mean overall i wasn't really let down with

the end boss i was a little let down the actual

like it just kind of stopped yeah that's true

it just kind of like yeah oh paul and i have

talked about this off air but with the whole

potential third film thing There's been a whole

lot of news stories recently about it, about,

you know, Danara Ackroyd's talked about it. I

think Harold Ramis has talked about it most recently,

like three or four months ago. And the only way

that I can see the original guys in it is if

they're in cameos, obviously in mentor capacity,

because let's be honest, and I'm not trying to

insult these celebrities, but none of them really

have aged well. I mean the last time I saw Harold

Ramis he looked like he was 250 to 270 pounds

of fat. Yeah he's no longer the skinny nerd that's

for sure. And like I said I'm not trying to insult

the guy but I just I don't see a third like if

it was something like their descendants obviously

and they were trying to you know pass the torch

on I could get behind that. And of course we

don't know what's gonna happen. We don't know

what they're gonna write, but I Just can't see

them in a third film Some of the plot things

that I've heard have been like Oscar's gonna

be a ghost, but now he's all grown up right and

I Mean it's trying to think what else like that's

all specifics I can think of If it's done right,

it could be very good. Right. But it can also

go horribly wrong. Yeah, good. So some of the

other merchandising. Yeah, I'm waiting to see.

You're waiting to see what? I want it to be good.

Yeah. I said I'm waiting because I want it to

be good. I hope it's good. But there are times

when. Things get done people push so hard for

more of something because it's good is I mean

the first two Ghostbusters movies are legitimately

good I would love to have more of it only if

it's good, you know, like and that's so much

stuff gets pushed past the point of being good

I don't want more Ghostbusters just for the sake

of more Ghostbusters I like the game the game

was good and if they can pull off something like

that great, you know, like but But if they're

just gonna slap another movie out just to slap

another movie out, don't bother. I mean, I'd

rather be happy with what I've got than be happy

with what I had and, you know, rue the new stuff

that you decided to crap on, you know? It really

reminds me of the whole Indiana Jones thing.

Yeah. That it was perfectly fine at the end of

The Last Crusade. You didn't need to do the crystal

skull, and you don't need to do another one that's

supposedly coming out. It's fine at the thing

is although again at the time of crystal skull

the concept of more Indiana Jones wasn't bad,

you know, like there was They just but it kind

of ruined it, you know because even if even if

Even if you just try to do your best to forget

it if it ruins everything else, you know Like

it's always gonna be there, right? Exactly Exactly,

so I mean it's part of the franchise now. I mean,

it's it's like Terminator 3 I mean As much as

you want to ignore it it's there and okay part

of the problem is too is like you know like it's

so hard to make that judgment call because like

I seriously doubt when they went to shoot and

do Indiana Jones like the Goal, I seriously doubt

anybody involved was saying you know what? This

isn't good. I don't like this you know like Flat

for you know various reasons. I don't think anybody

made a bad movie with the intention of making

a bad movie You know that they wanted to have

the same type of fun and the same type First

three movies had and it and it flopped you know

like it I mean like I mean it made a lot of money

it didn't flop flop, but I mean like but it Good

as the originals, and it's so it's hard to say

do it, but only if it's good because Chances

are if they're doing it they think it's good,

and maybe it will be and maybe it won't It's

hard to judge that so like I don't think anybody

Legitimately goes out to make a bad sequel right?

well, I don't I mean I mentioned Terminator 3

and That that movie should not have been made

period and I kind of dig part of Terminator 3

only because it finally I got off the uh oh let's

just keep delaying it like you had actually finally

said alright fine you know what look judgment

day it happened yeah I like three as well I think

what I could do without is salvation yeah yeah

I think the one that could do without in that

franchise is salvation see you know that one

I don't mind too terribly much because well Terminator

3 bugged me because it's wrapped up and it's

finalized at the end of Terminator 2. They destroyed,

you know, Skynet, they destroyed Cyberdyne. It's

done. You know, they just found a loophole to

be able to bring it back. You know, which that's

what bugged me from the very beginning. There

are a lot of aspects of T3 that I do like. I

just think it would have been a better movie

had Terminator 2 not wrapped everything up at

the end. You know James Cameron tidied everything

up and he cut up cut up all the ties and it was

it was perfectly fine You know the end of Terminator

2 there were there were ties left over that could

lead into a sequel that were Terminator 3 or

terminator your Terminator 2 was was neatly tied

up at the end and You know If that wasn't the

case, so maybe maybe I should blame Terminator

2 for it There are good things about Terminator

3 that I do like. Terminator Salvation is just

a natural progression from Terminator 3. Maddicollector

.com. What? Ghostbusters Toys. The point that

I'm making is that I agree with Ben that I don't

want them to make a movie just because. Just

because you can't do something doesn't necessarily

mean that you should do something. And I agree.

I also agree. But at least they're getting like

the original actors, the original co -writers,

at least somebody's doing something that was

from the films. It's not just somebody like fucking

Robordo Orzi or Alex Butzman coming in and rewriting

the whole thing. So at least it's the original

people that co -wrote the original two films.

You guys both collect the Ghostbusters figures.

We do. painstakingly so what are your like if

you had to like pick a favorite what would it

be Paul a favorite figure oh god um Ghostbusters

figure just Ghostbusters not anything else you

have I know I know um I really can't I really

can't even pick a favorite I mean they're all

really good Mean they're all pretty much identical.

They're the same body. So it's Yeah, it's it's

hard to pick. It's hard to pick a favorite because

the only thing that really is different is You

know the heads and their their name badges are

You know, I mean I'm excited that there there's

a renewed sense of interest in it to the point

where we're getting figures In the first place,

you know good movie figures you know, hopefully

it carries on to other franchisees. I would love

to see, you know, some good six -inch figures

of the, you know, redone of the real Ghostbusters

from the cartoon. I would love to get those.

I'm excited with the fact that we're gonna be

getting our first kind of prop, and that's gonna

be the PKE meter that comes out, I think, December

1st. It's a light -up prop. You're not allowed

to have a comment in this, sir. You have your

own custom -built, fully functional one that

probably could detect ghosts on its own. So let's

talk about that. I'm still gonna buy one. He's

still gonna buy one. Yeah, Ben made his very

own, or he... Did you work on it, or did you

have people do it for you? I don't remember how

the whole thing... No, I built all that. Did

you? Yeah, he built it himself, yeah. I mean,

I used a lot of pieces from prop masters and

things. Right. I built all that. Hard work and

dedication. That's what that is. Yeah, I really

worked on that thing every day for almost three

months And you won a contest from it Right What's

that I didn't hear you said you won the contest

from it, correct Yes, I did yeah that Halloween

dress that yeah that Halloween contest, yep Yeah,

you know so Overall, Ghostbusters franchise is

one of the best 80s film franchises. They are

considered very classic movies. If a third one

does come out, okay, I guess. It just depends

on, first of all, if they can get Murray to agree

to appear. Ernie Hudson would probably have to

get back into shape. I don't know. Have you seen

Ernie Hudson? Last time I saw him was on 10 -8.

He doesn't look too bad. He's still pretty popular.

Yeah, that's, yeah. You know, the thing is you

gotta keep in, you know, context that by the

time a third movie would come out, it's gonna

be 25 years or so after the first, you know,

group of movies. Yeah, yeah. So... I think we

can give them a little bit of liberty in letting

them go. I mean, in terms of their physicality.

Oh, yeah. No, I know. I understand that. Yeah,

I know. Providing it's, like I said, done well,

that it successfully hands the torch to a new

generation, we very well could get a whole new

group of movies out of this. Let's just hope

it doesn't flop like extreme Ghostbusters, oh

boy. Alright, so, um, you guys have YouTube channels,

you wanna pimp those out? Paul, you can go first.

Uh, youtube .com... Paul's not allowed. Wait,

what? Paul's not allowed. Ben, you don't... As

of right now, I mean, the contest is basically

over. That uh, Caleb Guy or whatever now has...

No, I know I know he's got he's got 1061 volts

and I have 852 so Contest he's got over a thousand

now. Yeah, and literally in a span of about an

hour and a half He caught up to me, which I was

ahead of ahead of him by almost 200 He caught

up to me and now has passed me by about 200 Well,

yeah, but that that fluctuates I mean because

at first he was ahead of you by about a hundred

and then you passed him So, you know, that's

true. That's true. But I mean, we'll see. Hey

Yeah, it's it's pretty much over and done with

I Know it's YouTube comm slash optobotomist And

I'm youtube .com slash user slash Piau P -E -A

-U -G -A Piau Check it out. I got jazz on his

way. Yeah, yeah, don't pin mine, but I got jazz

on the way. It's funny he mentions that because

TFW just tweeted special ops jazz photo gallery

or whatever it was or more images or whatever.

Yeah, that's actually the one that is coming.
