About this Episode

Steve, Michael, and Ryan dive into the Disney Channel movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension. They explore the characters' motivations, the show's clever writing, and the fan-favorite musical numbers. The trio discusses the unique dynamics between the two dimensions, favorite gags, and the impact of the film on the series' lore.

Hollywood premiere. GeekCast Radio's special

episode all about Phineas and Ferb across the

second dimension. I am one of your hosts, Steve

Joe Mike, and joining me is Pecan Court Michael.

Hello. Hey, how's it going? It's going and joining

us for the first time for this special episode,

another Phineas and Ferb fan, someone who I believe

actually has met Dan Pavanmire and Jeff Swampy

Marsh, Ryan Mead. Hello, sir. Whatcha doin'?

And yes, yes I have. There was a promotional

event recently in New York City. We'll probably

get to how they were promoting this later, but

I did indeed get to meet, or at least have my

photo and autograph taken with Dan and Swampy,

as well as Allison Stoner and Dee Bradley Baker,

but that's another story entirely. So I think

I'm trying to remember when the first time I

actually saw this series was. just the TV series,

specifically Phineas and Ferb. Basically what

we are going to focus here in this special episode

is about the Disney Channel original movie, Phineas

and Ferb, the movie across the second dimension.

But before we get into that too much, I figured

the three of us could talk about just in general

how we get started. And I honestly, I could have

sworn it was late. Maybe mid 2009 late 2009.

I don't remember when I first started watching

the series But as soon as I saw I just latched

on to it What about you Michael? When did you

first see it? Probably about the same time I

want to say How long ago was it that we did the

podcast was that a year? It was 2010. So it was

a year ago Well, it couldn't be much shortly

before that. I'm not sure but uh my boys started

watching it and now both my boys watch it because

i've got two uh one just turned three and uh

my older one is about to turn five michael uploaded

before before we let ryan go i have to tell the

story back then michael uploaded a video onto

youtube of his wife vacuuming and oh the my show

thing yeah that's the one He uploaded this video

of his wife vacuuming and his boy Aiden was watching

Phineas and Ferb. Michael turned the TV off.

He's like, my show! I remember that story from

the last Phineas and Ferb podcast. she wasn't

just vacuuming it with the funny part was that

gavin was on the vacuum kind of writing that

you'd write yes and that's why i was funny but

that is that you know we have to show on in the

background of the turn it off so that we can

focus on you know the vacuum writing and when

i did uh... jerry and just went completely nuts

something we have not yet been able to replicate

now i tried i really did oh man that's funny

what about you Ryan did you because I didn't

see this when it first premiered I didn't in

2007 I wasn't even didn't even know anything

about it so what about you Ryan when did you

first start watching Phineas and Ferb I saw it

When it first premiered, when it previewed in

August of 2007, but I never really got into it

until the Christmas special aired in late 2009.

I watched it on and off and, you know, I kind

of enjoyed it. I kind of, you know, watched it

whenever it was on. But it wasn't until the Christmas

special aired that I was like, you know, hey,

this is a pretty good show. And that was before

when I really got into it. So it seems like all

three of us got into it around the same time.

Yeah, by the time the Christmas special aired,

Christmas Vacation, I was already hooked. I mean,

I've, because, you know, Michael has said in

the last Phineas and Ferb episode we had done,

his house is Disney Channel 24 -7. Too much Disney

Channel. Way too much Disney Channel. I was watching

Hannah Montana. It's just way too much Disney

Channel. We were watching a sweet life on deck

It's you know, if you have to watch it you have

to watch it, but that's the only reason anybody

should Sweet life and sweet and all that bad.

Exactly. But the nice thing is is that we everybody

can relate to Phineas and Ferb Yeah, my boys

love it. I love it. It relates to people in all

age ranges It's just really good writing. Yeah,

this isn't just a kid's cartoon. This isn't like...

And I don't think any of the Disney Channel cartoons,

you know, since about, I don't know, probably

before 2000. I don't think any of them, 2000

and beyond, are just for kids anymore. I mean,

unless you're counting the Playhouse Disney stuff,

but... That's usually what I'm watching. Yeah,

I know. Any other regular Disney cartoons like

Phineas and Ferb, like Impossible, like The Replacements,

none of them are just for kids. I mean, anybody

can enjoy those, and Phineas and Ferb is just

one of those that it's a phenomenon at this point.

I know. It's amazing that, you know, Disney Channel,

you know, you have all these tween sitcoms like

your hand of Montana's and whatnot and but then

you have all these Animated shows that are actually

very well written. So it's it's very strange.

But then again even even you know Disney strength

has always been animation be it Mickey Mouse

cartoons or the features of the the golden era

or you know the shows from the 80s and 90s like

DuckTales and now we have the Disney Channel

shows like Phineas and Ferb so Disney's lifeblood

has always been animation and I think that's

going to continue as Phineas and Ferb definitely

shows so yes When I first saw previews of this

or like little spots on Disney Channel, it was

basically just the character spots. Little like

less than 15 second character spots of, you know...

Oh, yeah, that's how they promoted the show at

first. Me, Phineas, he thinks how. What the hell?

Ferb, he thinks big. And, you know, they were

also showing stuff like they were using the fact

that there were, you know, Disney Channel stars,

like they'd have an interview. You know, I'm

Ashley Tisdale, and I voice Andis on the new

show Phineas and Ferb, stuff like that. So that's

kind of clever, I guess, how Disney once again

uses all of its, you know, different separate

branches of its marketing to Promote a series

Disney is very very very good at that. So Until

just recently that the Disney marketing machine

really started cranking up on Phineas and Ferb

I know I think I mentioned earlier that Especially

I think I mentioned on the last podcast that

I had taken the family to Disney World. I want

to say this sometime last summer It was BotCon,

when you went to BotCon. There you go, we were

at BotCon! Disney Channel and Transformers, yay!

That is basically my life, yeah. No, we went

to Disney World and we couldn't find anything.

They have the occasional video with some of the

episodes, I think. Or maybe it was the soundtrack.

Soundtrack, I forget. But that's all they had.

They didn't have any toys. They didn't have any

t -shirts. There was just no merchandising at

all. I want to say before the toys started coming

out, a friend of my sister -in -law, my wife's

little sister, was interning at Disney downtown

Chicago. And she brought me a Phineas and Ferb

mousepad. And that was literally the first bit

of Phineas and Ferb merchandising I'd ever seen.

And the second bit was when I had to pretty much

beg and convince your wife to get you Perry the

Platypus slash Doofenshmirtz 2 -pack for your

birthday last year. The funny thing is, I want

to say we were complaining about the lack of

toys in the last podcast we did. And it was a

Dan Pavenmeyer responded to our post and said,

yeah, the toys are coming out. He said, yeah,

the toys are coming out. He also responded with

pretty much debunking your fear of what the movie

was going to be. Because you're like, well, if

it's just going to be a long episode. And he's

like, no, no. It's going to be, it's not just

going to be four episodes back to back to back.

Yeah. That was very nice of him to respond. Yeah.

But he said the toys are coming out. And then

the toys came out. And we basically had to coerce

my wife into getting me some. Uh, last. Last

year, the New York Times had an article all about,

you know, Disney's hopes for Phineas and Ferb

to become the next Spongebob. And I think that

that is definitely, even if they themselves are

not saying it, as I once read Dad Hovenmaier

himself claim that that's just something the

New York Times said and not Disney said. Even

if they're not saying it, they're obviously thinking

it, because to tell another useless story about

my many travels to New York City, last year they

opened up a new Disney Store in Times Square

and they had all the Disney characters out there

coming up on stage in the middle of Times Square

with Bob Iger the head of the Walt Disney Company

and Mayor Bloomberg and you know Mickey and Minnie

Mouse were there Buzz Lightyear was there the

Disney princesses were there but Phineas and

Ferb were also there which really goes to show

that you know right now they're thinking them

them as you know top -tier characters which they

very well should be, but obviously they know

they have a hit on their hands, but it's about

time. If they add Phineas and Ferb to the live

action... I don't know what the hell you'd call

it. The live action... The tour they have? Like,

they have... Yeah, the tour with all, like, people

that dress up as Mickey and Mickey... If they

add them to the... I'm trying to think of what...

They're not puppets. They're just called characters.

Yeah. They call them characters. If they're adding

the characters of Phineas and Ferb to the character

tour, you know it's huge. I mean, if you have...

I don't think that... I don't think this has

happened, Ryan. Maybe you can correct me if I'm

wrong. If you have Phineas shaking hands with

a Mickey Mouse character, then you know you've

got a hit on your hands. Yes. I don't know if

they've ever shook hands, but they chaired the

stage with each other, which is plenty enough.

I'm glad that they've actually got the characters.

Like I said, you know, we went to Disney World.

We saw, you know, Mickey and Minnie and Goofy,

but they also had other Playhouse Disney characters

like Handy Manny and the individual tools, just

just Mandy. And, you know, you name it, they

were there. But again, no Phineas and Ferb. So

it kind of makes me happy to know that there's

Six foot tall Phineas is walking around somewhere

Disney World. Yeah, they have They have a little

meet -and -greet space, which is based around

a movie set at Hollywood Studios now in Disney

World. They have a dance show at Disneyland,

and I don't know how they're going to do this,

but Feld Entertainment, the same people who do

the Barnum and Bailey Circus and the Disney live

shows and the Disney on Ice shows, they're actually

starting this month in Florida. They're going

to have a Phineas and Ferb live musical show,

not on ice, a live Stage show with all the characters

and the songs. I don't know how they're gonna

do that, but I'm interested to say nice Yeah,

we're gonna take the boys to Disney on ice in

two weeks It's too bad Phineas and Ferb won't

be there. That would be cool. I would love to

see I know this will never happen, but I would

love to see a doofenshmirtz character But the

the the thing with doof yeah, Dan has to be the

one in the suit Yeah. Because he has to do the

voice. Yeah, the only way you could pull off

Doofenshmirtz in the parks is if you had him

like a face character, like all the Disney princesses,

like Snow White and Alice in Wonderland. They

have actual humans who look like the character

and talk in character. That's what you'd have

to do for Doofenshmirtz, but it would be too

difficult to do. People just aren't that ugly

in real life, I don't think. I don't think that

would happen. People don't think I'm very handsome.

I was like, no, there's a reason for that. No,

I think that they could pull off a taller character

because none of the characters speak. I mean,

even even characters that you see speak all the

time on TV, they don't speak, they just kind

of pantomime. Yeah, that's true. They do it very

well, though. I mean, these guys know their jobs.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. They do. I actually got to meet

Phineas and Ferb and Agent P at the other event

in New York where they were promoting the movie

and I got my picture taken with them. And Phineas,

you know, proudly held up my frisbee and he took

a picture with it, the one that I got signed

by everyone. And then he and I, you know, did

a little fist bump. I just thought that was funny.

They were very enthusiastic. So it's pretty amazing.

you know just to see you know it's sort of what

Walt Disney himself calls the plausible implausible

or the possible implausible the you know we know

these are just characters people portraying Mickey

Mouse or Phineas and Ferb but we feel like they're

the actual characters so I don't know how that

works but it does that's true you're not allowed

to refer to them as people While you're there

you can't say oh, that's the guy in the suit

They will kick you out of the park if you point

to a character and say that's the guy in the

suit You know cuz then every kid in the parks

gonna go they cry Yeah, you're kind of breaking

that that you're breaking the fourth wall. There

goes your fourth wall You can't say that, oh,

hey, that's just a guy in a suit. And the people

in the suits, you're not supposed to take your

head off in public view. You have to go down.

And I learned this from, actually, it's really,

really funny. I learned this from Beverly Hills

Cop 3, when Axel Foley dressed up as hokey elephant.

You have to go down into the tunnels of the park

to take your head off because if you take it

off in front of people, it scars them for life.

No, they have handlers that actually, you know,

they watch the clock. They see how long you got

before, you know, you pass out inside that suit

and the handlers then take you away. And I'm

not sure if there's another guy. In the back

who they're waiting to bring out in the same

suit or if they you know Take you back there

and give you a drink and you know fan you down

or something then bring you back out But they

they're very careful about you know where and

how you want you undress Yeah, I was at the event.

I was at New York City. They had a guy there

who was working as a handler he was wearing a

red shirt that said Walt Disney Entertainment

on it and what they did at That event was, so

they always had someone out, they alternated

between Phineas and Ferb and Agent P. They have

an Agent P character too, but he hasn't shown

up in the parks yet. Well, he has on limited

occasions. I saw a video, he was in the park

this week alongside Phineas and Ferb to promote

the new movie, but other than that, he hasn't

shown up. But that's what they were doing there.

And also at Comic -Con, they were doing the same

thing. Phineas and Ferb would come out for like

half an hour. then Agent P would come out and

then Phineas and Ferb again. So they have this

whole system. Oh yeah. Yeah, it's very well planned.

Somehow we ended up on a character tangent. It's

okay. Yeah. It's it's still Phineas and Ferb

related seeing as how they have characters in

the park So with that we're going to take a quick

break and then we're going to come back with

Across the Second Dimension It's the Disney Channel

original movie Phineas and Ferb Across the Second

Dimension It's working! A mission into an alternate

universe will expose the truth He's a secret

agent! Harry? Get them! Threaten their friendship

All this time we're like he's a platypus He doesn't

do much Well apparently you do So you've discovered

your pet is a secret agent? Don't watch your

pamphlet. And send the world, you must stop him,

into chaos. There's robots all over the Tri -State

area. And now for the weather. This summer...

Ah, Harry the Platypus! The secret is out. Now

you can peel and send away forever. What? We'll

never see Harry again? There has to be another

way. And they'll discover... We're going back

for him. Yes! That some things... Follow me!

Go, go, go! Are worth fighting for. Harry! We

came to rescue you. i guess we could have thought

this out more we are back and for anyone who

has not yet seen phineas and ferb across the

second dimension stop the podcast there will

be spoilers spoilers we are not the the the movie

has aired Five or six times since the original

premiere date of August 5th. We are I think it's

not out gonna sure. Yeah, it is ended actually

It's gonna be a couple more times actually this

month including on the ABC network Which shows

how much Disney has hopes for it? Oh, yeah So

yes, we will be talking about the movie in depth

if you have not yet seen the movie Stop this

and you know, go watch it or you know don't listen

to the show until after august twenty third when

it comes out on dvd all right so let's see the

basic plot from this is that phineas infer find

out that perry is a secret agent that's not the

basic plot that's part of it that's the really

really short Yeah, it is kind of a consequence,

but to make a long story short, I guess you could

say Phineas and Ferb decide to celebrate Perry's

fifth anniversary by playing a game of platypult,

which is this giant badminton Tosser which is

shaped like perry the platypus while agent P

decides to go do his thing and stop doofenshmirtz

They end up colliding and Phineas and Ferb end

up meeting doofenshmirtz for the first time They

help him. They don't know that he's evil of course

Phineas and Ferb only see the good in everyone

so they help him fix doofenshmirtz's new other

dimension Hector and they end up opening a portal

to a second dimension where they meet people

who are similar to themselves, but somewhat different.

And more importantly, that dimension's Dr. Doofenshmirtz

has succeeded where ours has failed and finally

taken over the Tri -State area for quite a long

time. And it is because of this that eventually

Perry has to give... reveal himself yes reveal

himself as agent p and the gang must band together

in order to not only save this dimension but

go back to their own and protect it from being

taken over as well what i do not okay i get all

of the different i get all the different second

dimension things what i don't get is That, okay,

in the first, in our dimension in the, I guess

you could say in the Phineas and Ferb Prime dimension

here. Oh God. Ferb... I was gonna use DC Universe

terminology too. I was gonna call him Doofenshmirtz

Prime and stuff like that, so I guess we're on

the same track. Well, I think Michael said oh

God because he's... No transformers. No, I wasn't

I was actually thinking of DC universe. Yeah,

okay I was actually gonna if you're gonna take

it the transformers route. You could call this

shattered glass doof. Oh god. Yes That's awesome

But the characters, you know the second dimension

characters. I thought they would have been slight

like can't like the two Candace's They are completely

different from each other. I would have thought

second dimension Ferb would be talking so much

that you wouldn't be able to get him to shut

up that's true you never think about things like

that but i don't think that everybody is is automatically

opposite it's not it's not shattered glass in

that dimension that they're the same characters

they just had different motivations yeah they're

basically they basically seem to be the same

people it's just that they do things differently.

Like Candice, she is overprotective. In this,

in Danville Prime, let's say, she's overprotective

to the point of insanity that she fears that

Phineas and Ferb are going to get into trouble,

whereas in Danville too, she's more overprotective

to the point, in a more militaristic matter,

she wants to defend Phineas and Ferb from Dufen

Schmertz. And again, it boils down to motivation

in exactly in Phineas prime. This is we have

to figure out some type of different nomenclature.

Let's say the regular world. All right. Candice

is focused like a laser beam on busting her brothers.

And that's that is her motivation. She's you

know, she wants to protect them from their weird

machinations. But she wants to protect them by

telling mom. Mom will fix everything if only

mom could see in in the the alternate universe

candice is single -mindedly focused like a laser

beam on defeating doofenshmirtz again because

she's trying to protect her brothers from this

evil world that has cropped up around her with

the doof is created but She she thinks the only

way that she could protect her brothers is by

stopping doofenshmirtz. So I mean this is I don't

want to say it's the same motivation but different

different paths to get there it's different motivations

one is focused on you know busting your brothers

to nothing else exactly and the other one is

just focused on destroying doof to you know to

the uh to the whatever whatever the cost i find

it extremely hilarious that first dimension doof

our doof has of course it's not backstory In

his mind, it's the worst childhood ever. It is

the worst childhood ever. Okay, but in his mind

it is, but compared to things that other people

have gone through, I'm sure it's not the worst

thing ever. But our doof has all these events

happen to him in his life, and he still can't

take over the Tri -State area. We head to the

second dimension. That doof... Lost his train

and he succeeded in taking over the damn dimension

That was one of the things I love most about

this movie Just the rapport between the two doofs

doof and schmerz happens to be one of my favorite

characters And he is arguably he arguably always

steals the show But it was funny to see you know

the discrepancy between these two dr. Doof and

Schmerz's one of them. You know is They're that

well, they're both kind of insane, of course,

since they are basically the same person at heart.

But one of them is, you know, extremely is an

extremely evil mastermind who for just one ridiculous

reason. And on the other hand, we have our doofenshmirtz

who who always fails because of his Desire to

have a self -destruct button on everything and

that was one of my favorite gags in the movie

I had an army of robots, too I put this a self

-destruct button on the bottom of their feet

so nobody could get to it now the one time he

actually pulls it off is the one time he takes

it self -destruct button out exactly what killed

me is that The evil doofensmer - the evil. The

good doofensmerch versus the evil doofensmerch.

Let's say alternate dimension doofensmerch has

this tiny little backstory where he loses a train,

and I'm thinking, that can't possibly have been

more traumatic than losing an eye. That would

be my traumatic backstory. I lost an eye! I got

a scar across my eye patch! Well, in the flashback...

When he had his train, he already had lost the

eye. I think they just did that to differentiate,

but yeah, he already had an eye patch. Yeah,

he already had the eye patch, and then he got

the scar. I think he was just wearing the eye

patch just for fun, and then later on he actually

lost an eye. I don't know, because he does say

in the song, it's in this pouch. He didn't lose

it, he still has it. It's in the pouch. Yeah,

he still has it. It's not in his eye socket.

It's not in his head. That's where I keep my

eye, you know, in my head. I don't think I'd

want it in a pouch. That's just me, though. So

Perry reveals himself. Phineas is angry. Isn't

that just seems strange for him that he's angry?

That was one of the things. I loved about this,

too. Just Phineas becoming angry was funny. The

only time we've seen him, you know, like, lose

his temper was in the hour -long special, Summer

Belongs to You. He kind of went insane at one

point, re -thinking that he couldn't get off

the island. Yeah. But I thought this was funny.

You know, even Phineas is optimistic throughout

this whole thing. At the beginning, we have this,

you know, thing like... It's already happened

and the rest of the story is a flashback. They're

already being fed to the goose. I mean, you know,

Phineas is still optimistic and you know, you

know, there are some days that are going to be

like this, I guess. And even at when he meets

Dr. Doofenshmirtz, he doesn't realize that he's

evil and he's just his normal self. But once

Perry. Reveals himself. That's when Phineas goes

and say did he's like, you know, you were a secret

agent because if Perry had trusted that the whole

point is a trust issue between Phineas Ferb and

Perry that's true and the thing of it is is if

Perry had trusted them with the secret I Think

even though the movie stands alone and we'll

talk about that later I think if they had if

they wanted to tie it into the series They could

have made Phineas angry to the point of the fact

that, you know, why didn't you tell us? This

whole time, we could have gone on adventures

with you all summer long as well. Well, that's

the way Phineas was. He was jumping to conclusions.

He didn't realize, you know, he didn't learn

until later on that Harry had to protect his

secret or else he'd be reassigned. Right, exactly,

yeah. And that's what, you know, that's like

what Phineas was complaining about, you know?

You know, why? It was a perceived trust issue.

He didn't realize that. It's not that you don't

trust us. It's that if you had told us they would

have shipped you off to Siberia. Yes. And this

kind of goes back to the series, to a dream sequence

in the series of what would happen if. They found

out, you know, all these SWAT troopers would

invade the house, they would take Agent P, you

would see Kevin the Zebra, and then Perry would

wake up. Of course, that's another question entirely.

How does... Oh, no, wait, that was Perry's dream,

that's right. Yeah, that was Perry's dream. It

started out as Candace's dream, but then we found

out it was Perry's dream. It was Perry's dream.

Exactly. But, I mean, you know, in Phineas...

from when he first finds out he has you know

a right to be angry i'm glad that they didn't

make him angry so angry to the point where he

wasn't going to be able to redeem that he wasn't

gonna be able to pull that back because i think

if they made him so angry uh... it just wouldn't

work for the movie wouldn't work for the series

because i i guarantee you if they made phineas

so angry that he wouldn't go back and save perry

Guarantee you that they would have lost their

entire fan base if that had happened. Well, that's

not even in Phineas's personality. He I was surprised

to see him angry at all It was it like it was

like oh your secret agent. That's awesome. Let's

get out of here. You know, it was You know now

I'm pissed I really can't I don't want your stupid

pamphlet And of course, the funny thing is, Ferb,

he doesn't care one way or another. It seemed

like he could care less. Of course, he never

talks, so we don't know what we're thinking.

But, you know, there were kind of jokes like

this, where Phineas is like, you know, is anyone

else around here leading a double flight that

I don't know about? Put your hand down, Ferb.

I just, since you mentioned that scene, I watched

that earlier. On the rerun, when they show the

movie again, I watched that because I wanted

to see if Phineas's eyeball looked behind him.

Doesn't even look. Because, yeah, that's the

thing. These stepbrothers are so in tune with

each other that Phineas doesn't even have to

look to know that Ferb raised his hand. Yeah.

Ferb raises his hand and says, I'm Batman. And

that's the other thing. I know that Dan and Swampy

probably don't want this compared to this, but

I'm sorry. I keep seeing Phineas and Ferb as

a Jay and Silent Bob duo. Alright, I don't want

to think about that either. I know I know but

I just had to throw it out there Yeah, but her

definitely has a lot more going on than he's

willing to tell The thing Dan and Swampy always

compare him to is, you know, Steve McQueen. You

know, he's the cool guy that doesn't talk much.

He just seems to go with everything. I thought

it was funny, too, another idea that Ferb doesn't

care one way or another. Well, two funny ones.

Well, first of all, Phineas is like, well, you

know, you couldn't have done anything to protect

us. And then Ferb is like, well, he did pee on

the couch. And of course, that even makes Phineas

angrier. But Ferb, you know... knows I guess

that he's just trying and and the other thing

is when I was a conscious choice you peed on

my couch exactly and the other thing and the

other thing is when Perry's walking away sadly

once Phineas doesn't want anything to do with

him and he you know he sadly says to himself

I used to think you couldn't spell platypus without

us and Ferb is just standing there he doesn't

seem to care one way or another he's like well

technically you could but then it would just

be platyp. Yeah. I mean, Ferb does have lines,

but I mean, technically he is, you know, as you

said, Ryan, he is a Steve McQueen type or in

my case, he's Silent Bob because, you know, he

has at least one line in every show, maybe two.

And at the end he says, most chicks don't bring

you lasagna. They just cheat on you. There's

definitely more to Ferb than he brings on, and

you know, we get a little bit of that sometimes.

Like, another example, you know, how Ferb must

think differently from everyone else is the episode

where Candice wants Phineas and Ferb to compete

against the two people next door who look like

them, Thaddeus and Thor, and Phineas is like,

Candice, we don't do this to compete. We do it

for fun. And Ferb is like, And for the ladies.

So one of the issues that I had with the movie,

it's not really, it doesn't take away my enjoyment

of the movie. It's just one of those technical

things to me. When they're falling off, uh, doof

and schmertz evil incorporated second dimension

and they have the mysterious architecture thing.

They're screaming all the way down and then when

they get down there Phineas is like, oh, thank

God for you know, thanks to you know, I'm like

that would kill anybody flipping through those

things That would slice your head off flipping

through those those blinds or visors or those

are made out of mattresses Those are not made

out of mattresses totally. Okay That was the

first thing doofenshmirtz did was replace all

the asphalt in the city with with mattress material

So I want to go back for a second because we're

just talking about the doofenshmirtz evil incorporated

building in the the the the one with the extended

roof Yeah, which I thought was awesome because

you know all the way up that roof is that is

the theme ride for himself Yeah, which I thought

was awesome and everyone else that was awesome

because the minute they pop out they go that

was awesome But if I were ruler of the world

I would totally build a Disney ride all about

myself That'd be the first thing I would do I

think Yeah So then they go to meet their other

selves and This is like the drabbist I mean this

is worse than 1985 This is worse than the biff

1985 future I mean, I mean the way that their

street looks it's like It's like jail, but outside

It actually looks very it didn't look like post

-apocalyptic wasteland, you know, I know back

to the future one did this one looked more like

you know, conformist Orwellian type dystopia.

Yeah. Yeah. Well, they were even played that

game, Doofopoly. I got a one. Pick a Doofopoly

activity card. Conform. I can do that. I can

do that. I can do that. What do we think of the

2D dad appearance of Mr. Fletcher? jumping on

the train as it runs by you. All I can think

of whenever he speaks is Ritz O 'Brien. Yeah.

And I mean, that holds a special place in my

heart. Basically anybody associated with the

Rocky Horror Picture Show kind of makes me giggle.

Yeah, well, I think, again, I think it shows

that the second dimension counterparts aren't

too far from the first dimension ones because

they seem very much in line, you know, dad just

seems to go with the flow. He has no idea what's

going on. And mom is trying to be a mother. But

of course, in this case, it's, you know, it's

more, you know, more sort of, you know, She doesn't

want to get caught. Don't forget to put on your

do for alls before the norm bots come. If you

want me, I'll be in the basement. It's actually

mothering from the basement as well. Yeah, yeah.

That's true. Oh, man. So then they they they

meet up with each other with their two other

selves. And they go to explain summer in song

and they speed the song up and just the look

on 2D Phineas's face when they speed it up. It's

priceless. It's like. Well, they've never been

introduced to this concept before. Exactly. Well,

that sounds awesome. How exactly do I get grape

soda with this? And then Candace I know that

she has different motivations, but just The fact

that she just doesn't care it shocks our Phineas

Yeah, she's so willing to throw anybody anything

under the bus in order to protect her brothers

Yeah, it's a but on the other hand she keeps

coming back Yeah, but then again our Candice

is the same way, you know She doesn't she'll

throw anybody under a bus, too If she you know,

if she if it means getting her brothers in trouble,

you know, you know There was actually a couple

of episodes where she purposefully said no, i'm

not going to bust my brothers i'm going to You

know go to the mall with stacey or spend the

day with my mother Yeah, there's only been one

episode where it actually almost would have worked

If Stacey Hedden made up the word she made up

the episode where Stacey hypnotizes Candice so

she can go on a date with Jeremy. Oh, yeah. Almost

worked. Oh, yeah. That was almost what worked

for Candice if they wouldn't have used leaping

lizards as the go back to normal. And of course,

the funny thing was Jeremy was, you know, using

everything except lizards like jumping amphibian.

I like, uh, Candace on parsnips. Oh yeah. was

funny there were a lot of jokes in this episode

I think that are funny on their own but they're

also funny if you've seen the previous episode

so you know what they're referring to the the

reveal of second dimension Candace is one of

those because we see this big guy with this gruff

voice but it turns out the big guy is just a

topiary and Candace his voice is affected by

the parsnips and that's funny on its own but

if you remember the episode I had to I had to

convince Michael of this. I know. I remember

you had to look it up at the Wiki. It's Dan Povemeyer

doing that voice. It's Dan Povemeyer doing the

parsnips voice. I believe it. But it reminds

me of Dr. Girlfriend. And I may have brought

up Dr. Girlfriend in the last podcast. I don't

remember. This time they have the great big buff

guy and it comes out and it's Dr. Girlfriend.

I guess you'd have to watch. venture brothers

to get that one but yeah probably yeah but the

awesome character i'll have to send you pictures

of uh cosplaying as dr girlfriend okay uh so

yeah second dimension candace as the leader of

the resistance that that girl can kick some ass

she's very badass yeah she is definitely badass

i like how swinging candace i think it's Yeah,

it's it's our Phineas. I thought it was 2d Phineas,

but it's first to mention Phineas He turns to

a regular Candice and he's like, can you do that?

apparently so I like 2d Isabella. Oh, yeah, she's

funny But even she is kind of you know militant

in the in the other dimension because there's

at least one scene where you know, she's driving

the cart and Candice Or the alternative dimension

Candice. I think this is the second of three

times where she basically tells everyone you're

on your own Yeah, and Isabella just kind of turns

her head continues driving. Yeah, she's like,

you know, I might not have been the call I'd

make but that she's the leader yep and then buford

oh yeah 2d buford resisting the resistance i

got so good at it i started resisting them he

said candice says buford keep resisting he says

no he goes excellent yeah and of course Like

R. Buford, he's off on his own tangent, too,

where Candace is like, you know, we have to get

off here. The headquarters, the main central

area of Duford Schmerz's headquarters is on level

four, and the snack bar's on level five. I'm

going to get nachos. I really wanted those nachos.

My heart set on those nachos. Nachos, that's

what it was. Oh, man. the detention level yeah

as soon as she said the detention level I was

like this is gonna be a Star Wars reference coming

Yeah, I've always wanted them to do I know Star

Wars parodies have done to death But I I've always

wanted them to do like a Star Wars parody just

so they could do the most obvious joke ever But

I still think it would be funny. Aren't you a

little short for a stormtrooper? Yes. Yes, I

am There was a enough Star Wars references in

the in the the meet episode Oh, yeah, the Chronicles

of me definitely. Yeah, and then they had the

trailer For the sequel that they never actually

made but that trailer was just pure Star Wars

gold I know that that was originally meant as

a joke, of course, but at comic -con last year

They said, you know people have been asking us

so many times about that that we're actually

making it into an episode So that will be interesting

to see I just I would I really want to see meeples

in Seattle, but No, I really do, but at the time

of that news announcement or at the time, I believe

it was Ryan or somebody told me about that news

that they're actually gonna make it, Don LaFontana

just passed away. And I was like, I really don't

want them to make it now if Don can't do the

narrating. Know he actually died before the episode

aired at the very end. They have And he does

that in a world there I said it Oh Wow you just

reminded me what I can put at the end of this

episode good deal All right, so they've met up

with the resistance they they're what do we think

of a norm bots? Oh, that was funny. Just the

idea that they, for some reason, they had these

two personalities. You know, just this destructive

personality and the more nonchalant personality

like Norm. Please show us your papers. I use

aggression to get out my insecurities. I've always

liked Norm as a character in our dimension. I

always thought he was hilarious. Yeah, I felt

bad because I've never seen a Georgia O 'Keeffe

painting, so I'm not entirely sure where that

joke was going. She did a lot of desert -based

paintings, I think, with cow skulls and such,

so that's what that joke's referring to. But

that was just pretty funny in itself. Yeah Even

though I'm not really familiar with what he was

in You know known for it was just funny also

the way Buford was so straightforward when Candice

was Explaining this mysterious force that gets

rid of everything and Buford just like well Why

don't you just go up and ask it Kierkegaard?

What? Existentialist trading cards they came

with the gum i know that they had a certain time

limit for this movie but uh... in the comic -con

panel they mentioned and mentioned in problem

are mentions that uh... uh... there was a song

that was cut from the movie which was candice's

mysterious force song oh sure i'd like wish they

would have left that in because i actually before

i saw the movie ryan actually gifted me the soundtrack

to the film on itunes and i heard that song and

i love that song that that that candice does

I actually heard it back when Martin Olsen, who

is one of the songwriters, and he's also the

father of Olivia Olsen, who voices Vanessa, a

couple months ago, he put up a couple of demos

of some songs up on Soundcloud, and that was

one of the ones that he put up, and I thought

it was a pretty catchy song too, but... Yeah.

Well, at least it'll be on the DVD. That's true.

So that's pretty cool. But yeah... What does

Stacey have like? What seriously I mean Stacey

is just like oh My god mysterious force that

took my friend away I didn't really believe in

you, but please forgive me now, and it's like

why is stale I like I like Stacey I like the

friendship between Candice and Stacey on the

series, but why is Stacey even here? Well, Candace

needs somebody to play off of, and she did kind

of serve that role earlier on in the film, but

it is kind of weird to see her without Candace.

I guess it doesn't work as well. Yeah, it doesn't.

Maybe in the second dimension, Stacey, if Stacey

had shown up, she would have, you know, conquered

that llama legislation. Yeah. That's from one

of the future episodes. Oh, yeah. Um Right over

the head. Thank you There was a episode it was

the quantum boogaloo one where they go to the

future and Candice is talking to Stacey in the

future and he's like she's like well being the

president of Uruguay must Can't be all bad. Can

it? Oh, I guess it can well talk to you later.

Good luck on that llama legislation So Where

do we go next there? They're in the tunnels they

Tootie Candice separates the cars She gets her

brother's safe. I honestly cuz I'm having a hard

time remembering it. How did they get out of

the fiery car? She basically separates the cars

and the second dimension people get away and

Candice closes the doors Behind her and then

the original dimension people all get captured

And that's when they all go to their doom. Uh,

that's when they're being sent to the Guzm, right?

Yeah. Doom is that -a -way! If I had a nickel

for every time a puppet doomed me, I'd have two

nickels. That was another one of those jokes

that works on two levels, both as its own and

a callback to a previous episode, but... Yup.

Yeah, I think they really... Covered everything

any any joke that had previously been funny for

every episode They they touched upon every Gadget

that was ever created they touched upon every

Character who has ever appeared yeah The only

characters I don't think they touched on was

the the the husband and wife Oh, you start you

start a bunny farm. You have no bunnies. What

are the bunnies is going to fall out of the sky?

Yeah, that's true. I wouldn't doubt it if they

were somewhere in the background. Probably the

couple who are going to buy a Doofenshmirtz's

penthouse were in there, too. At least I'm pretty

sure that was them. Yeah. But it seemed like

they touched on everybody. The only people that

I noticed for certain that were not in it was

bowling for soup. Yeah, well, yeah, but their

love handle was there Yeah, but they but they

didn't actually have bowling for soup called

out my name And then they're like because because

even love handle realizes that the world is ending

anything we can do musical accompaniment that's

that's really all they're there for is is play

the music yeah but again no bowling for soup

everyone else gets a cameo except them well i

kind of felt bad for them But they've gotten,

I mean, I'm sure Bowling for Soup gets royalties

every time a rerun syndicated episode plays,

and the themes, I guarantee you, they get plenty

of money from the franchise. Yeah, I don't know

if they get royalties for the theme song itself

since they didn't write it, but Jared Reddick,

he wrote the extended version with the extra

verse that they play in Quan and Boogaloo, you

know, this could possibly be the best day ever.

He wrote that part of the song. They play that

he gets money. Oh and he wrote robot riot. So

he's getting paid for this too. Yeah So technically

kind of he did make an appearance Maybe Yeah,

yeah robot riot was a good song what I really

love I have to jump back here a little bit When

Perry rips off his his little locket there and

gives it to them and they go back home to their

I believe, yeah, yeah, they're back in the first

dimension. They go back to their house and it

starts beeping and they find the entrance and

everything else. And again, I know people are

gonna hate me for this, for referencing this,

but that whole scene of them finding Perry's

lair, of putting what looks like a bat emblem

on... The thing and opening it that makes it

look like a bad emblem emblem the computer talking

to them telling them Yes, Perry trusts you because

he knows you've made all this stuff And then

you see every single invention that was almost

every invention that was ever used in the series

And the only thing I can think of is uncle Alfred.

It's me Barbara I've made a suit for you young

lady bad girl from I'm waiting for Ferb to say,

I'm Batman. But we're jumping a little bit ahead

here in the story, but that whole scene where

we see practically everyone in Danville come,

you know, coming up with Phineas and to Phineas

and Ferb on all practically every invention that

that's been made over the series that that gave

me like a really giddy childlike feeling. I think

that's one of those other scenes that works on

two levels. You know, it's awesome on its own.

But if you, you know, watch the series, you're

like, oh, I remember all of those and it's again

it's just very interesting how they've how those

scenes work in two different ways yeah it was

like a love letter to the previous episodes exactly

I mean if they had you know that I going to but

I mean if they had to wrap up the entire series

with this one show it would have been a happy

send -off yes that this would have made a great

chance to do this Yeah, this would have made

a great series finale, but... Thank God it didn't

happen that way, because... Yeah, thankfully

it didn't. If it had been the series finale the

way they actually ended it, that would have been

a serious screw you to the Finneas Isabella fans.

Phineas Isabella shippers out there right now.

Oh, oh don't get me started. I don't want to

All right, so they've got all the inventions

they're fighting the norm bots they realize that

they have to get to the top of the tower to and

then Phineas realizes about the the norm bot

satellite they don't actually have to close the

the dimension put that on a set the close the

brothers have to destroy the satellite and i

think the only thing i've skipped over here in

this quick like thing i'm talking about is actually

getting back to the first dimension they go around

clockwise alias that that was one of the best

sequences and songs brand -new reality that was

pretty fun yeah brand -new reality was hilarious

uh... the cuba it's dimension yes that was a

very funny elisa larius Like the giant floating

baby head dimension that still creeps me out

You know, I always wondered where the giant floating

baby head came from cuz it's made it's like a

recurring joke It keeps coming back. It's a recurring

joke now It first premiered in the episode where

they built the haunted house to scare the hiccups

out of Isabella That was the first time they

showed it Yeah, they even made jokes about it.

It's like, that wasn't you? No, I have no idea

where that came from. Exactly. It came from the

giant floating baby head dimension. Yeah. Oh,

man. It was a little small. It may have been

a baby giant floating baby head. And I'm so glad

they get out of the bathtub alien bathtub dimension

fairly quickly because the alien bathtub creature

ate one of the norm bots in a bunch of the norm

bots Yeah, I was actually expecting the norm

bot pursuers to dwindle down Until you know,

like a hundred of them enter and then one, you

know gets squatted it finally at the end or something

and the only time I really saw any evidence of

that was when the The bathtub alien ate up like

a handful of them as they flew past Help help

I'm being oppressed I think we need at least

one money python reference here Evil doof tells

the robots we've got some oppressing to do And

the funniest thing was after they get back to

first dimension Are do I I love do don't get

me wrong. He's great All see what I had to say

was buzz the buzz the building cable. That's

all you got to say You're from the cable company.

Somebody will buzz you in you don't have to go

into some long backstory of how your neighbors

You know who that was Who? Mrs. Thompson was

Doris Roberts from Everybody Loves Raymond. Oh,

that's right. And I heard the voice and I'm like,

that's Raymond's mom. That is awesome. And I

had to go back and watch the credits at the end

to make sure it was her. It was funny. I was

like, why? I'm so glad they got her. Yeah. I

mean, we'll talk about this a little bit later.

But I mean, just. The voice cast, besides the

main people that voice all the main characters,

the special guest voices that they've gotten.

Oh my God. Lorenzo Lamas. I mean, you know, I

think I said this in my musical review post on

my musical blog post about the soundtracks. Phineas

and Ferb is this generation's Simpsons. And I

don't mean that in a bad way, and I don't mean

that Phineas and Ferb is like the Simpsons at

all. It'll be around in 20 more years. I just

shut up. I just mean that as far as what they

go for for voice talent and... as far as bringing

that talent in and making them look, whatever

characters that they're playing, making them

look like that voice. Not only the voice talent,

I would say, but also the music. The Simpsons

has had all of these different musical numbers

over the years, thanks to their great composer,

Alf Clausen, who's done all of these styles,

like Broadway parodies or rock and roll or barbershop

quartet. And the same thing with Phineas and

Ferb their writers have you know written in practically

every different style under the Sun there's a

song in practically every episode and they're

all so wonderfully written and they have such

you know goofy lyrics that yeah it's just it's

just so great so where are we in the movie they're

at the tower I think we finally arrived to my

favorite Star Wars moment Okay Candice in the

detention center. Oh Yeah, Jeremy walks in yeah,

that totally would have been they aren't you

a little short to be a stormtrooper? Yes Yes,

yes, I am but she was totally doing the classic

Leia pose The cot and he said I'm here to rescue

you. I love that. I thought that was I'm really

surprised. They weren't more parodies I'm surprised

that there wasn't a lot of 2D Jeremy. I mean...

He just kind of showed up at the end. Yeah, I

think he was just kind of there to show that,

you know, Candice is... 2d Candice is in a way

kind of like our Candice, you know She she was

just like our Candice She thinks you know, she's

this brave thing and you know when they asked

her about you know Jeremy all she could say was

oh, he's a good soldier But just like our Candice

if she actually sees them she goes all crazy.

So yeah No, I mean, you know, I I think that's

great, but I I mean technically because Phineas

wasn't there or because Perry wasn't there. Well,

yeah, it would be Phineas of, you know, aren't

you a little short to be a stormtrooper? Yeah.

Technically, Jeremy is the Han Solo of Phineas

and Ferb across the second dimension. I wouldn't

go that far. Well, I keep thinking of the, you

know, the future militants from the Terminator

series. They're all they're all having to, you

know, rebel against the Terminators, except in

this case, it's giant black knight doombots yeah

with the norm i'm really surprised that there

wasn't a reference made there about the doombots

and their black helmets yeah um like a it's a

flesh wound type of that would have been funny

it was totally lost i'm sure it's somewhere in

a deleted scene it's a it's just a flesh wound

a little flesh wound what are you gonna do bite

me Get out of here or I'll bleed on you. So yeah,

Jeremy rescues 2D Candice. And then I think Phineas

actually ends up hitting the satellite dish.

He hits the baseball into the satellite dish

and then that disables the Doom bots, or the

Doof bots, I guess it'd be. Well the norm bots

Yeah, that happens The funny thing is, of course,

this is perfect Candice logic. You know, while

all this is going on, she thinks, well, you know,

she finally realizes, hmm, well, you know, this

mysterious force always takes everything away

when I ask mom to go see it. Maybe if I go get

mom to see it, everything will disappear. And

she goes in, mom and dad are at the movie theater.

You know, she's like, could you please try not

to interrupt us? The movie's almost over. The

girl's going to a party. Apologize to the guy

for this cliche misunderstanding after she lights

the robots I'd go see that movie Just just talking

about Candace our Candace and her whole busting

urge of busting Phineas and Ferb We've seen in

the past we saw it in the future episode that

we talked about a while ago Where if mom does

see it she'll go nuts and you know incarcerate

them and smile away camp or whatever but If dad

catches them He just goes with the flow. No matter

what he doesn't care. This example is the episode

Magic carpet ride, right? Adventure the whole

time and he doesn't care I honestly think he

was just watching TV the whole time. He didn't

really take notice of what was going on around

him. He probably didn't even know what was going

on. Yeah. This is a great channel. Yeah. I've

never seen this before. But yeah, first to mention

Candice, her logic is that, well, if I show mom

that there's nothing there, I've saved the universe.

Yeah. That's right. As soon as I get mom's attention,

she'll look and everything will be gone. And

that's what happens. Yeah, she totally saves

the world That was all her but it was because

what wasn't really all her because What happened

I believe it was right before that yeah, it was

right before that because 2d doof had had the

had the self -destruct switch and And then, and

then after that happens, and then Candice shows

mom that there's nothing there, they go back

to the tower. And first dimension, doof. because

he had said he never lost that train give second

dimension doof the train and all of a sudden

he's it's like his heart grew three sizes his

heart grew three sizes that day i mean seriously

he's like he's like evil intentions going away

hearts is melting you know Yeah, like seriously

seriously Yeah The only thing that was missing

there was a Candice's victory gum Even if you

win by forfeit She totally should have had some

victory gum handy Yeah, and then of course they

end up back in the in the in the lair And they

have to explain, you know, major monogram. And

that's the other thing. Major monogram, 2D major

monogram was, was conformist, but that's all

he did. I mean, he had one seat. Executive assistant.

Yeah. Um, but our major monogram, uh, explains

that if they, you know, they have to erase the

memories or Perry has to leave. And of course,

they don't want Perry to leave, because they've

spent five years with the platypus, and they'd

rather have him there and not know. We have so

many perfect days, but only one Perry. Exactly.

Yeah, exactly. And so they're like, OK, we're

ready. And of course, Major Monogram, Carl, and

Perry all step back. Isabella stands up and says

major monogram. So basically what you're saying

is after you zap us with that note, we won't

remember anything. He goes, yes, not trying to

worry. And then she's like, fine. And she just

grabs Phineas. I thought she was going to kiss

him on the triangle, but she lifts his triangle.

And she plans one on Phineas. And Phineas is

like, wait, Isabella, what? And then poof. No,

no, wait, wait. yeah well you know she could

do that anytime I don't see why it's a big deal

that they forget about it immediately afterward

well I think Isabella knows she's tried so many

times to attract Phineas and he's always been

off in his own little world that I think you

know she basically knows well you know this is

probably only going to be the only chance I ever

get so why not yeah she could kiss him anytime

she wants now see if See, I think it would have

been even cooler and I know they couldn't have

done this but once 2d Phineas and Ferb became

Trained I guess you could say keep your head

down there. You're trained But once once 2d Phineas

became trained I would have almost thought that

2d Isabella. It would be the reverse of our it

well, no Oh, no, that wouldn't work. Never mind

It'd be like 2D Buford. I am so in love with

her right now. No, that wouldn't work. Never

mind. I'm not thinking straight here. Ah, these

infernal dimensions! What bothered me, though,

is that they have this thing called the Amnesianator.

And Doofenshmirtz is like, if I'd made something

like that, I think I'd remember it. But they

had a memory draining machine in the lair, in

Perry's lair. in the episode where Perry had

to drive the dad robot. Oh, the memory eraser,

yeah. They had two of them. They had the memory

eraser, and then Doof and Schmertz had the forget

-about -it -inator. The forget -about -it -inator.

He did. It was in a recent episode. Ryan, wasn't

it like a couple weeks ago? I think so. Yeah,

he had a forget - because he went on this whole

thing of... he's like forget about a donator

forget about a donator forget about yeah and

i think that's where because i actually did look

on the wiki before we did this i i was i actually

i actually tweeted dr doof and i said hey if

you ever need to remember all your old inators

here's your list inator oh it was the one where

norm wanted to be a real boy yeah it was yeah

it was yeah Yeah, he had to forget about it in

Nader, so... Oh, and that's right, that's the

same one where Candice was hypnotized and ended

up hitting Mom, so she forgot all about... Yeah.

Did you notice during the memory removal scene,

the Doofensmurts is in the back, all trussed

up like Hannibal Lecter? No, I was wondering

myself if all the kids right have have that had

their memories removed in the amnesia nader wouldn't

do first remember but after going back and looking

there there's a scene with the whole group and

do for smurfs is on the far left and he's like

Tied to a to a two -wheeled dolly with it with

the Hannibal Lecter mask on his face Yeah, it

was great. This would be an awesome screenshot

And the thing of it is, I like the way they ended

it, I'm glad the way they ended it the way they

did. My only question is... And again, this is

me equating Perry to another superhero here.

In the 1994 Spider -Man cartoon, Peter would

always set up his camera before he would... do

battle with kingpin or whatever else first of

all perry's a platypus he doesn't have pockets

well none that we can actually see because again

he pulls his hat out of somewhere i don't know

where uh... but at the end of this when he goes

back to his lair he pulls out a camera and i'm

like where the It's in his hat. What the heck

did you have the camera? The camera's in his

hat. They said earlier, we created all of Doof

and Schmertz. He takes pictures of all of Doof

and Schmertz's inventions, and he also takes

pictures of all of Phineas and Ferb's inventions,

so that's how he was able to replicate them.

It was in his hat. He pulls his hat off, pulls

the camera out of his hat, but every picture

is like a Facebook picture. It's like every picture

is taken down the length of his arm. Yeah. Well,

but that's the thing, though. I mean, it's like...

Okay, yeah, I got it. Oh, yeah, no baby pictures

You're pointing to the human pyramid Wow, here

we go There's no human pyramid here, it's just

you know the the ending of Perry being the only

one that remembers well Perry monogram and Carl

actually but you know out of the core group Perry

being the only one that remembers that that actually

works. I mean, I don't know what the heck kind

of animation they used on those images though.

That looked really weird. What? On the actual

pictures? The photo down the length of the arm

picture is kind of a fish eye look. Yeah, it

looked really weird. It looked like it was off

model and I mean it was them but it almost looked

like they were trying to go 3D with the images.

Every avatar picture on Facebook looks like that.

Yes, I think a lot of those pictures. Well the

last picture where he was You know saying goodbye

to Phineas and Ferb and giving them a hug. I

think that one minus the The the save photos

yes or no thing would make a nice background

image. Yeah You know, that's that's something

that they should produce and put out for free

download. I Thought it was a cool picture. It

was very touching You have no idea how hard it

was for me to just get Phineas and Ferb the movie

across the second dimension logo off of the end

you have no I Scoured the and I even went on

the wiki and because other times that they've

done it It's had the Disney Channel original

movie logo at the left. It's had other things

on it So I finally found one and that's probably

gonna be the art is just just the title of the

movie Ryan final thoughts on the movie overall

I really liked it. Like you said, and like I

said before, I think it really encapsulates everything

that makes Phineas and Ferb, and I guess you

could say, to be kind of hammy and cliched, I

guess you could say it takes everything, and

to steal the name of the song that was written

and performed by Slash, it kicked it up a notch,

I guess you could say. for something bigger,

and they kind of achieved it well. And it was

interesting that they were able to make, you

know, an action -packed film, but during those

action sequences, they were never able to lose

the Phineas and Ferb sense of humor. It was always

there, so... Mm -hmm. Michael? Yeah, it's all

more of the same. I mean, honestly, they could

have come up with something original here, and

they just rehashed all the stuff they've already

done. Oh, come on. It was just really a disappointment.

I don't know. Shut up. Nah, I'm kidding. I loved

it. You're lying. I loved it. You know, and I'm

a sucker for parallel evil universes. So, and

I loved it that the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz had

a little goatee. Yeah. I was like, heck yeah,

Spock would be proud. I liked all the cameos.

I liked all the references of the earlier shows.

You know, there's there's a lot going on here

and long -term fans would pick up on just almost

everything I mean every every minute there was

something else to see I had to watch it at least

twice to really catch out on all the Some of

the hidden bits some of the funnier lines, you

know, no, really who's in that? Yeah, you know

things like that I've seen about five times now

because we put it on DVR And my boys have just

watched it over and over and over again. I think

the only character we never actually talked about

was Dr. Baljeet, but he really wasn't... He was

just Baljeet, except he had a doctorate in something.

I mean, there really was no... Like, okay, Fini...

not Fini... Isabella in our world is, you know...

love with Phineas and Isabella the 2d Isabella

she's just militant and she'll follow Candice's

orders no matter what but Baljeet he didn't seem

to have any different I think he was more gruff

he was yeah he was he was more gruff and sarcastic

especially if you go to Disney Channel comm slash

2d and you play the online game yeah his messages

in there his humor is like I've set these portals

up for you. What are you waiting for? Go through

them! Do I have to do everything myself? I mean,

he has that... The 2D Baljeet has that little

bit of a gruffer sense of humor, but... I just...

In the movie, I just didn't notice any real character

differences. I think in the second dimension,

Baljeet is the one doing the bullying. I don't

know. Buford resists pretty good. Well, I was

just about to say, Buford is off -resisting,

so Baljeet, without having this bullying going

on on a daily basis, can do other things like

catch up on his PhD. Yeah. And my overall thoughts

on the movie itself, it's so great. I can't wait

till it comes out on DVD so we can see all the

additional stuff that they're going to put on

that. And the DVD does hit stores August 23rd.

um what are you hoping to see as far as uh dvd

extras i mean i'm hoping to see voice actors

doing their thing behind the scenes i don't know

i'm hoping to see how the story came together

just stories about how they put the script together

Yeah, I know there's going to be one special

feature behind the scenes. It's Dan and swampy

doing a rap They said in the style of like the

lonely island about how they put the show together.

So that sounds like it could be funny Yeah, I

did notice I forget where I saw this. I'll have

to find it again. Oh, no, it was on Wikipedia

uh... because they were talking about the home

theater release or not the the the whole media

release and said something about special features

with commentary with cast and creators i mentioned

on twitter to ryan and he said well it's it's

probably not a commentary in the film it's probably

just them talking about the film uh... i think

What it is, is I think I saw the official press

release. There's going to be a bonus episode

on the disc, which is Attack of the 50 -foot

Sister, the one where Candace drinks the growth

potion. And that's going to have the commentaries

on it, because I think it's the same thing they

did with The Chronicles of Meep on the Christmas

DVD, but it was a special release only at Toys

R Us. They had two commentaries on that episode.

One was with Dan and Swampy, and the other...

was also with Dan and Swampy, but they were in

character as Doof and Monogram, so I think they're

doing that same thing with the 50 -foot sister

episode. It would be nice if they did it with

the film itself, but... Yeah, I would love it

if they would just do it with the film itself.

That would be cool. Now, I remember when, uh,

and I want to say this was... 2006 maybe this

is the year before the Transformers movie came

out the the 1986 Transformers movie was remastered

and Put out by Sony. I'm pretty sure so many

pictures and they had three maybe four commentary

tracks Yeah, I don't think that would be cool.

That would be very cool. I don't see why not

the one thing i i i i i put this on twitter and

i don't know because i don't have twitter open

at this point but i don't know if anyone ever

replied to it i was watching the movie earlier

and the whole point of across the second dimension

is it's the five -year anniversary of of them

getting perry how in five years did major monogram

go from being this young suave black haired guy

to this Old, white -haired, mustached guy. How

in five years do you age? I mean, does major

monogram age in dog years or something? Well,

maybe it's a very difficult job. People say that,

you know... George W. Bush and Barack Obama aged

a lot in office, so maybe it's a very taxing

job, and it's the same way, but he doesn't do

much, but of course he has to put up with Carl,

which I imagine is very taxing, so maybe that's

what ages him. Okay, I like this reference better,

so basically you're saying Major Monogram and

Carl are to what? Dr. Scratch and Sniff and Wackle,

Yakko, and Dodd are to each other. Exactly. Exactly.

Dr. Scratch and Sniff, the Warners made him pull

out all his hair. That's probably the same thing.

What does OWCA stand for? Organization without

a cool acronym. Oh, that's awesome. They have

the OWCA adoption agency. At the beginning and

that's where they that's where they got Perry

and then later on they had the the OWCA headquarters

Oh, yes, please pay no attention to this sign

This is the second time in the Phineas and Ferb

franchise that Carl as The black lady shows up

in disguise Oh, that was funny too. They mentioned

this joke at the New York Times panel before

it even aired, but I thought it was funny the

way back in the flashback major monogram is like,

well, Carl, if you keep this up, you'll make

it to unpaid intern in no time. Dan and Swampy

were just having fun with that. You know, that's

the joke, but you know, what was he doing before

he was an unpaid intern? Was he paying major

monogram to work there, or? Wow. He was student

volunteer. Pretending to be the practice puss.

Oh, yes. So, we're gonna take another break and

we're gonna come back with some potential future

Phineas and Ferb things, so we'll be back after

this. Do I know you? Yeah, I'm you from another

dimension! Well, that would explain the handsomeness.

Right back at you, big guy! Does that mean you

and I are exactly alike? I suppose so. Do you

want some rice pudding? No, that's gross! It

was a test, almond brittle! He too. Do you collect

coins? Yeah! Just in case. Vending machines become

the dominant race. I've been alone all these

years. With my irrational fears. But not the

vending machines, like that's gonna happen. But

now before me I see. Someone with whom I agree.

I found a brand new best friend and it's me.

I noticed that your scar goes over your eye patch.

Yeah? Nothing. No, it just sort of sounded like...

I mean, we could. We should. Hmm, maybe we're

not so much alike. That can be your catchphrase.

You're the grumpy one. going to talk about the

future of the franchise. And as I've said multiple

times, thank God that this is a standalone movie

and they did not try to tie this into the series

because they would have really boxed themselves

into a corner if they tried to tie this into

the series. They could have expanded the horizons

a little bit because, you know, the first couple

of seasons are Perry doing his own thing. And

then, oh, we've run out of summer activities

to do. Summer's over. What are we going to do

all winter? We're going to help Harry. But summer

isn't over yet. They haven't got to 104 episodes

yet. They will get to that throughout the season

three run, but they haven't gotten to the end

of summer yet. Phineas and Ferb kind of exist

in its own little universe. I was going to say

if it wasn't the continuity, I was going to bring

up like one of... Disney's last big animated

hits before Phineas and Ferb was Kim Possible

and they had a TV movie that resolved everything

but there was this big fan demand for them to

make another season and disney gave in so they

basically had to undo everything that was done

in that tv movie like kim got this indestructible

suit so in the next episode they had to have

it stolen because you know if she has an indestructible

suit you know she's going to defeat everyone

easily so they had to revert the status quo back

that way so well you know an obvious fix here

is uh doofenshmirtz could create an anti -summerinator

That's true. And then as soon as he starts to

start it up, Agent P would swing in, destroy

it, and the anti -Summerinator would then kick

into reverse, and it would be summer all year

round. That's true. And then we could have Phineas

and Ferb for the indefinite future. That's true,

but then again, in my mind, I'm personally of

the theory that Phineas and Ferb are perpetually

on summer vacation, with the exception of the

Christmas episode, which Is a Christmas episode,

but they're out of school then too, so it still

technically counts, but. Yeah, I and see I've

tried to think of what would happen if they went

back to school. The only problem is throughout

this entire series. They are. characterized as

being geniuses. Yeah. Mike B and I were actually

talking about this on Twitter. Dan and Swampy

have said in the past, you know, we're never

going to put Phineas and Ferb in school. But

at the panel I was at at the New York Times a

couple months ago, someone asked them about that

and they were commenting, you know, Well, maybe

Phineas and Ferb at school could be like our

sweet life on deck. You know, it could be the

second series, but he pointed out the idea that,

you know, it would just probably be, you know,

what sort of wacky situations could they get

to into school, as Mike B pointed out, which

has been done like a million times before. So

I don't think, you know, Phineas and Ferb have

to stay in summer. It's not only in their character,

but it's in the character of the show. Right.

I think if they were to do a spinoff, they should

do future spinoff from the episode where they

went into the future, because we would get resolution

to Candice and Jeremy eventually being married,

because Linda in that episode actually says her,

Phineas, and Ferb are 30 years old at that point.

So we would see if whether it's Ferb or Phineas

that marries Aunt Isabella. Aunt Isabella, yeah.

She says, look, I marry Phineas. Or Ferb. Ferb

goes, ding. But see, what I want to see in the

future show is, and I know this is probably going

to be bad, but we got to see Ferb and Vanessa

get together. Oh, yeah. So it'd be awesome it'd

be it'd be Phineas but see that would be really

weird though because if and I know I know Ferb

is technically the stepbrother he's not like

Candice and and Phineas Linda Flynn had those

children and then Ferb comes in as the stepbrother

because it was from another one of It was from

another marriage that mr. Fletcher had had that

Lawrence had had the only problem with Ferb and

Vanessa potentially getting together is they

would have Doof as a father -in -law. That sounds

like some sort of cheesy sitcom idea. Coming

at you on Fridays. Double Doof and Schmerz coming

at you Fridays. What? Really? What? Maybe we're

not alike. That could be your catchphrase. You're

the grumpy one. Was actually thinking that I'm

the grumpy one Cuz you're coming on up coming

on up to the east side in the sky okay well mike

w and i were talking about that during the break

finneas has you know has that little thing where

he references the theme song to the jefferson's

you know he's like well one minute we were in

this you know badminton birdie and the next we're

moving on up to the east side into your deluxe

apartment in the sky and i was pointing out the

fact that that song was actually written by jeff

barry who is a songwriter he also Wrote the Archie's

number one hit sugar sugar. He wrote a number

of other songs but he is actually the father

of John Colton Barry who is a Writer for Phineas

and Ferb and co -wrote this movie alongside Dan

and swampy. So there's your useless fact for

the day. He was definitely into the Motown Which

leads me into the next question was Everything's

better with Perry Now does that song evoke more

of the Jackson five or more like a Supremes vibe?

I think it's more of a Jackson five because it

definitely sounds like I want you back for certain

and They just kind of have the the well when

they were dressed up with the orange suits kind

of doing the yeah Supremes walk dance type thing

I'm not really hip on the whole Motown thing.

You know, I Really say either way, but I did

I did like the reference. I thought it was cool.

I like the song Yeah, let's talk Michael have

you heard the entire soundtrack or no? I have

not You had made mention that there were songs

on the soundtrack that were not included Or that

didn't come up at all and there's a lot more

songs in the soundtrack list then what? The one

song that didn't come up in the movie was Candice's

number Mysterious Force, but I can sing a little

bit of it for you Let me explain though. It might

seem strange to you. So please refrain thinking

bad of me It gives me pain when I see what my

brothers do but no one else ever can see I just

want the truth known So I call mom on the phone,

but the time she gets here the whole thing disappears

Whatever they build every day it gets taken away.

No one sees it Of course, it's a mysterious force.

the theme of the song as opposed to the words

because like everything's better with perry if

you just look at the lyrics they're just so simple

i mean it's like my five -year -old is making

up these words yeah well i think that's part

of the joke they're talking about all the things

that are great to do with perry and they're these

mundane everyday things like brushing your teeth

sitting in a chair or breathing in and out Yeah.

Well, I mean, I'm working at the soundtrack listing

on iTunes because, like I said, I've got the

soundtrack on iTunes. There's only two songs

on the entire soundtrack that are actually, you

know, general song length, which is Robot Riot

by Love Handle and the Slash, Phineas, Ferb and

Cast, and Slash kick it up a notch. That seemed

like an afterthought to me. It was, actually.

I can tell you the story Dan and Swampy told

it at one of the panels I attended in New York

City, and I read it elsewhere. Slash is actually

a big Phineas and Ferb fan. Who isn't? And he

saw the movie and he won. Slash. No, I said who

isn't. Oh. Slash isn't. Yeah, you just said he

was. No, I thought you said who is it? Oh, okay,

never mind. Go ahead. Go ahead, Ryan. Okay, yeah,

who isn't? Exactly. But anyway, and, you know,

he asked Dan and Swampy, you know, I'd like to

write a song for this, could I? And they were,

you know, of course they were, you know, they

were... awestruck that you know Slash would want

to do this so they did and when they were filming

the opening of the music video where Slash plugs

his amp in and he becomes a cartoon character

uh they actually had Vincent Martello who voices

Phineas on the set that day and he got to meet

Slash and Slash said something like you know

I was very star I am very starstruck to meet

you and of course this is Slash we're talking

about so Vincent responded something like, well,

no, I have to assure you that of all the people,

I am the one who is starstruck. And something

else in the panel, and I will put the links to

the video. Hopefully the videos are still up.

I will put the links to the SDCC 2011 panel in

the post for this episode so people can know

where to go to see the panel for San Diego Comic

Con. In that, someone asked them about... If

Vincent and Thomas the Thomas, oh, what's his

last name? It's Thomas Sankster if they actually

did an ensemble casting with the two of them

in the room and Vincent said I've seen him maybe

twice the entire series because Ferb only has

One maybe two lines per episode. They record

him over in England. None of the cast is ever

in the room at the same time Like British in

Britain. Yeah. That's funny. Because honestly,

there are British people in L .A. or, you know,

or in Orlando, wherever they film it or record

it. Yeah, well, he lives in England and Vincent

Martella lives in Florida and Ashley Tisdale,

of course, she does things. So whenever they

get time, you know, they put them in the local

studio and they record the lines. They, you know,

they do. rather than do the voice work first

and then the animation, they do the animation

first and then they do what's called looping.

They have each actor come in and watch the finished

product and do the lines of that and then they

try to match the mouth movements to the voices

that they've just recorded. It's probably, Phineas

and Ferb is probably one of the only cartoons

that doesn't do ensemble casting, everybody in

the same room at the same time, and it actually

works. It does. That they don't do an ensemble

cast. But some of the other songs, because the

soundtrack is songs from the first and second

dimensions, so any songs that weren't on the

original soundtrack, songs from the TV series,

some of them are here, not all of them. Not knowing

where you're going here What was the other one?

Oh the one that doof did? There's a lot from

the rollercoaster musical. Yeah, there's a platypus

controlling me. I love that song But the soundtrack

is just awesome Soundtrack is just just awesome

Now wonder where Where Richard O 'Brien lives

if he's actually in LA if he's in Britain? That's

a good question. I don't know. I'm not sure.

I'd almost expect him to be like in LA. No, Ryan

and I - I thought they all were in LA, but -

Nope. Moving right along. Ryan and I listened

to, oh, what's it called? Was it Magical Definition?

Yeah. The Magical Definition podcast, um... They

had done a little like 33 minute discussion on

Across the Second Dimension and they were more

so talking about the marketing aspect of it and

the future of the Phineas and Ferb franchise.

And Jim over there brought up this live action

movie that they have planned. And just from what

he was, the way he was explaining that there's

a draft out there and there's, you know, an idea

out there about finding... The way he explained

it is that the live -action Phineas and Ferb

movie is actually going to be a live -action

movie and they're actually gonna try to find,

you know, child stars to play Phineas and Ferb.

I hope to God that does not happen. I'm sorry.

What Jim Hill was saying... That's what Mike

B was saying. But Jim Hill, he's a great Disney

gossiper. He runs a great site, Jim Hill Media.

But he was talking about the fact that, you know,

earlier this year, Disney announced that they

want to do a Phineas and Ferb feature film. And

one of the ideas they had out there, they said,

was basically, you know, Phineas and Ferb across

the third dimension. You know, it would start

out and animated, but Phineas and Ferb would

somehow come into our world. And Mike B and I

were actually talking about this. but one of

the things that Jim Hill pointed out was apparently

one of the things that Disney is trying to do,

again, this is just rumor right now, but apparently

what they're looking for is they want to do something

along the lines of... They have, you know, regular

no -name actors playing most of the parts. And

they have a really big name, like someone like

Jim Carrey is their big hope to play Doofenshmirtz,

kind of like how they had Hank Azaria's Gargamel

in the Smurfs movie playing off of C .G. Smurfs.

They need to scrap that idea. It'd be great if

they could get Jim Carrey, but they need to scrap.

I said to Ryan off air, I said, Phineas and Ferb

feature -length film to be in theaters needs

to be like Roger Rabbit or like Rocky and Bullwinkle

where, say, you have Dr. Doofenshmirtz come out

of animated world and he becomes live action,

but Phineas and Ferb and Perry, they all stay

animated. Such a bad idea. Just keep it animated.

Make it 3D if you must, but you know, keep it

animated. You know what's gonna be hilarious

is two years from now I'm gonna have a YouTube

video up with my voice talking about how Disney

raped their childhood. Stop it! Disney just bent

my childhood over and they made Phineas and Ferb

real people and just killed it all to hell. I

don't think I wouldn't enjoy that. Uh, well dan

povenmeyer and swampy marsh are writing the script

but then again even um, according to some articles

i've read but of course even that may not be

enough but It's You can't save that. Well, you

know, it's funny because this is coming full

circle in the the last podcast that mike and

I did we were uh, you know conjecturing What

the the finneas and food after the finneas and

fur movie? would be like you know is it going

to be you know just a string of smaller episodes

stuck together or is it going to be a cohesive

whole you know what do they mean second dimension

how's that going to pan out and now here we are

in this podcast wondering what the next movie

is going to be about how that's going to piece

together and if i remember right everything that

we had guessed back then was all wrong Yeah,

about the second dimension, so I can only cross

your fingers and hope that I'm wrong this time

too. Yes, well all we can do is hope and... There's

a possibility that it might not even get made.

It's just an idea for now. But I guess it depends

on a lot of factors, one of which is would be,

you know, does Disney still think Phineas and

Ferb is a viable franchise two years down the

line? And given how much they're promoting it

and how much they did, I think this movie got

almost eight million viewers, which is a record

for cable TV specials. Jersey Shore, when it

came back, it got nine million viewers but this

got eight million which is of course nothing

to sneeze at so for that age bracket that they're

demographic I'm sure that's huge I know they

were saying in the press release actually not

only you know did it kit Disney's key demographic

6 to 11 9 to 14, but it actually beat the competition

Competition on the broadcast networks at the

same time. That is ABC CBS Etc with adults 18

to 49 So more adults were watching the Phineas

and Fer movie Friday night then whatever ABC

or CBS had so that I think that goes to show

how much of a fan base of both kids and adults

the series has. And they're going to make a killing

overseas and they're going to make a killing

on DVD sales. Exactly. Yeah. So I think that

this is this series is definitely going to be

a cash cow for Disney. And as such, you know,

you look at other cash cows like the Transformers

series, you know, even though Michael Bay is

done doing his movies. you know they're gonna

make more movies. They're probably gonna have

another trilogy with a different director, or

the Spider -Man trilogies, or the Pirates of

the Caribbean movies that they're now talking

about making five and six back -to -back. You

know, if you make a billion dollars, they're

gonna make more movies. They're gonna keep producing

it. And with this being so huge for Disney, there's

no doubt that there's gonna be more movies. probably

every six months you're going to get something

popping up. And definitely more seasons of the

show. Very, very, very cool. I don't see this

franchise going away anytime soon. I hope not.

They haven't even tapped the potential. Right.

I don't think I'd be happy with live action,

but there are so many other directions that they

could go in. Yeah. Well, I think Dan and Swampy

had said, Dan, I think Dan Pavenmeyer had said

this. that not only do they make the show for

kids, but they also make it for themselves. That's

what all the old time animators used to say,

and that's what they say as well. You know, we

don't make it for kids, we make it for ourselves.

You know, if it makes us laugh, chances are it

will make someone else laugh. Right, but I mean,

in Phineas and Ferb's, like comparing Phineas

and Ferb to Looney Tunes, because that's the

main one that I know of, that the producers of

Looney Tunes had said, We made the cartoons for

us. We didn't make them for children. Exactly.

In the case of Phineas and Ferb, though, they

are going for both themselves and a kid audience

as well. And the children, right? Because if

they didn't target that kid demographic, it would

just be nothing but adults loving the show. It

wouldn't be Disney at that point. Yeah, it wouldn't

be Disney. Disney has a target demographic of,

you know, the 6 to 12, the 9 to 16, whatever.

Most of your you know 9 to 12 year olds aren't

gonna get the wolverines reference. Oh You've

never seen right gone. They're not gonna catch

that I caught it. It made me giggle. I thought

it was great Little kids aren't gonna catch it

But I really appreciate what they do I really

do I mean this can't be easy You know again you

look at When you look at writing it's like, okay

You know, you have a person who's nothing more

than a head. You can only make so many head puns.
