GeekCast Radio
2015 Year in Review

About this Episode
Hi, this is Christy Marks, creator of Gem and
the Holograms. You're listening to the GeekCast
Radio Network. Hey, this is Samantha Newark,
and you're listening to the truly outrageous
podcasters of the GeekCast Radio Network. Hi,
this is John Barber from IDW Publishing. You
are listening to the GeekCast Radio Network.
I'm Joe Kramer, composer of Mission Impossible
Rogue Nation. Your mission, should you choose
to accept it, is to listen to this podcast from
the GeekCast Radio Network. Hello and welcome
to geek cast radio episode 90. This is the GCR
n's 2015 year in review and Ladies and gentlemen,
it's just the dynamic duo this year. There's
no There's no party. No third leg. No fourth
leg There's there's no New Year's Eve party.
It's just a bunch of sad drunks here Yeah, I
am of course TFT Mike joining me is Steve Megatron.
Hello I'm just playing. I figured you were gonna,
I figured you were gonna pull up the Pat Butchram.
Yeah, I, if I could channel that right now, like,
that's great. I had the voice, now it's gone.
Yup. So we are here once again to recap 2015
for the Network for Geekery for what we found
interesting, fun, funny, epic failure or epic
awesomeness, whatever you want to call it. It's
been an interesting year for GCRN, hasn't it?
We've had a year. Well. Yeah, I'd say so. I mean,
quite a bit's happened. We've done a lot of events
with more to come and obviously those will be
teased later. The network has started growing
again considering last year was kind of in some
areas stagnant. Yeah, a lot of things changed
this year. A lot of things are going to be changing
next year as well. as you said we will tease
those at the at the end but it's just one of
those things where I for me this year has been
well honestly you're well huh you're well being
no no honestly this year has just been overwhelming
with just sheer awfulness honestly I know on
Facebook and Twitter and everywhere else, I see
sometimes people are like, 2015, the year that
offended everyone. And yet, nobody cared. For
me, it's ... You know this. We've been friends
for hell, almost seven, eight years now at this
point. We've been running the podcast network.
It'll be seven years next June. Hate change.
I don't mean like, you know, oh Michael chicken
Michael chickless is no longer be gonna be Ben
Grimm and no not that kind of not not movie cast
changes all those do suck but major changes in
my life and sadly They really major change in
my life pretty much altered the rest of my life
at this point and my mom had passed away this
year, so And you know how I work. I will do the
podcasting thing nine months out of the year,
usually by Halloween. I'm like, OK, I'm on big.
I'm going to cut back seriously. I'm not going
to do as content. And by that time of year, you're
you're broken. Well, you had the blue screen
and you shut down for the year. Well, OK, well,
we'll get to that in a second. I'm saying in
general, most years like last year or 2013. or
eat, you know, the last six years, the last five
years of the network, I, you know, I work my
ass off doing all this content and everything
else. I, you know, I do 10 to 20 different podcasts
at a time. And I'm not complaining about doing
those. I'm just saying that's, that's what I
do. And it's one of those things where for me.
By Halloween Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm
like, okay, I'm gonna cut back I'm gonna put
out a few things gonna do a few special things
over the holidays, but I'm not gonna do as much
kind well this year that all went to shit because
my mom passed away in May and I was like, okay
Well, I don't know what the hell I'm gonna do
now because I had roommates for five months for
the last well living in the new place now for
four months, but between May and September, so
it's roughly about four months. It's just one
of those things where I had roommates and it
was always hard trying to get recordings done
and all this and all that, so I'm like, okay,
well, I'm just gonna try to get as many interviews
as I can with as many awesome people as I can
and just, you know. work on that and I started
working on that and started cutting back on a
lot of things. A lot of things took a back seat.
We didn't start the She -Ra era of Powers of
Grayskull when I really wanted it to. I was,
even though the production was done on it, I
wasn't really editing Showtime Synergy, even
though I didn't have to record it anymore. I
just had to edit it and throw it up, but I just,
I don't know, I just, you know. It's just one
of those things so that was part of my year this
year On the upside you had your second child
yes Second child second dog because unfortunately
my my longtime buddy Sadie Beagle that we had
for seven years to the day when she passed She
was around when I started podcasting for the
most part. She was the dog that was always in
there clanging the chains during the shows in
the early days. Lots happened this year. My graphic
design has gotten better this year. You're in
the second year of altered geek. Yes second year
of altered geek nearing episode 120 now at this
point You launched a GTF version 3 .0. Yeah for
some reason I got this idea that I couldn't let
it die No, it's fine. And well, it's yeah, we'll
talk about it later. But like yeah, it's one
of those things that Starting out Kind of made
me Enjoy podcasting to begin with so right it's
hard for me to kill that show Yeah So yeah done
that been doing a lot of college courses got
double certified in superheroes In pop culture
I started writing my book Which I don't know
if I'll have like I don't know when I'll finish
it I'm not saying I won't ever finish it because
I will Right. It's figuring out When I'll get
around to it and then There's the I'm gonna start
taking a screenwriting class next year. So it
should come to fruition a little bit because
I'm gonna Use that as my basis to start out with
So yeah, I've been working on that been working
on the site been working on a lot of that stuff,
so I'm just overall Overall, it's been a good
year, but like there have been elements that
have sucked Well, yeah, I mean, that's it's just
the way most years go I got to meet Frank Wellkart
and BotCon. Yeah, that was pretty cool. Yeah,
that was pretty cool and I met Michael Wilson
and You know person Yep, so yeah We had see we
had more cinema geek stuff with Kevin Dan and
Amanda this year and Mike Dodd and I launched
mayhem mics, which is our WWE wrestling thing,
which is also featured here on the GCR GCR feed
I said remote control because of most of my podcasting
things as far as I've already stated it kind
of faded because of the, um, the, you know, my
mom dying, but I do want to get back to remote
control. I had a little bit of a brain fart with
remote control. The new TV podcast here on GCRN
was trying to figure out how much information
more specifically for CBS, ABC and NBC. Cause
I want to do these things called broadcast network
spotlights where we take one episode of the podcast.
And, uh, we talk about. the history of the networks.
Well, that kind of fizzled because there's just
so much information because CBS, ABC, and NBC
all started out as radio companies. So I'm sitting
here looking at all this and how am I going to
cram this into something where it's not sounding
like it's being read from Wikipedia, yet it's
getting the information across. But remote control
will make a comeback. We did, I think we did
do one GCR in retro this year. No, that was last
year because it was 2014. No, there were plans
for three of them this year. They just never
came to fruition. Yeah, there were plans for
three of them this year. There are actually plans
for four of them. We were going to do 1980, 1980,
1985, 1990, and 1995, but they just never came
to fruition. Showtime synergy the gem review
podcast. We pretty much wrapped it up with the
cartoon reviews with episode 22 We got 65 cartoons
reviewed in 22 episodes To cast beyond I I Was
in the middle most of this year originally this
year I was gonna do I've been planning to do
these things called 25 days of Christmas And
I've seen other podcasts do this where they'll
take you know, one or two Christmas specials
and, you know, we'll actually take 25 of them.
Actually, where I really got this from was Positively
Nerdy. Ryan, what's his last name? Damn it, I
should know this. Ryan Dross to start Joe's.
Ryan Porter is Positively Nerdy. There we go.
Ryan Porter, he did a 25 days of Christmas thing
and that's kind of where I got the idea from.
uh... but to cast the arms it's just i think
the and looking here now seeing what we had well
in a couple of the sons in in in twenty fifteen
we had um... the end of the animation direction
spotlight that that neil and i did we have the
frozen episode we have the johnny test episode
with gargoyles gravity falls toy story and in
a goofy movie to gas beyond his i'd finished
up wrapping the the new format around the podcast.
Like I've said so many times before, that second
season when we were originally doing podcast
seasons, that DreamWorks season just killed my
soul when it came to cartoons, especially some
of those later movies like Flushed Away and just
the really crappy DreamWorks stuff. But now,
with Tooncast Beyond, it's got a whole new outlook,
it's got a whole new format. For movies, it's
essentially the same, but for actual cartoon
series, we're going to be taking the remote control
TV theme here, where we're going to review them
in seasons. So, like, Thundercats 2011 Season
1 will be a podcast, and blah -de -blah -blah
-blah, and so on and so forth. I'm trying to
think what else we've got that happened this
year. Did we do a couple of wars? I'm trying
to think if there were a couple of those. I don't
remember on the wars front how many there were
actually. I don't think we did. Oh, no. Yeah,
we did. Well, it kind of... According to this,
the... Video game icons championship reveal was
January of this year. But yeah, no there was
yeah, it was last year My goal for this year
was to kind of bring And my goal for the future
obviously is to bring in some new and different
content Not just I've always you know, our bread
and butter will always be transformed Between
the two of us where you know, we're two really
big transformers fans And that's one of the reasons
why I think you can't and I and I agree you can't
let a TTF just die out I mean hiatus is are fine
That's not you know, that's not a problem at
all But you know My thing with the network is
I want to expand us to where people don't just
think, oh, it's those two Transformers fans who
just want to dip their tongue into everything
or whatever. We're trying to create an overall
geek hub here, and I think we've... I don't think
we expanded that much this year. No, we added
in session film. Right. There was... Most of
the other shows were already here. From the previous
year and There's gonna be a little tweaking of
that whole system next year I'm going to be setting
up a It is more to be to be fair to other publishers
too and it's not to like constrain people to
like Because at the time when we set up the original
partner program we had a certain set of standards
because We were getting so many emails of people
trying to add themselves to it. And while there
was a lot of good content, I didn't really want
to turn away. But at the same time, we already
had coverage. So what we're going to do next
year is, and I'm still working on this behind
the scenes, is there's going to be a directory.
of basically like an actual hub directory of
websites that they, you know, fill out the form
thing. And then all we have to do is, you know,
decide yay or nay based on content and everything
else. And it kind of, it'll be more of a even
playing field. So I mean, there, there can be
doubles in it. because of what it will be representing.
Yeah, see, with the original partner program
we were looking for individual podcasts that
were theme specific like Mark Who 42 or hell,
even Star Joe's, their shtick is they review
comics from the 80s. You know, so, you know,
you take Mark Who 42 And it's one of those things
where, okay, we have this Dr. Who podcast on
the partner program. We only need one. With the
way you're wanting to do it, you know, in the
future and having the directory, it's like, Hey,
come here to find all of your interests in one
place. And then go forth and find, you know,
go forth and, and, and, and explore those interests.
So there'll be more quantity, but there it's
going to be more quantity or quality based. and
broken down in various categories that I'm still
setting up to. So again, it'll be more of a hub.
And also because this year I've gotten emails
from people trying to apply to it that wouldn't
necessarily be something that I would put on
the site itself. Not saying that they aren't
good content because I'm sure they are. Right,
but they don't line up with what our endgame
goals are to some degree So in doing this directory
method it allows them to still get added exposure
without having to sacrifice the The the the way
that we're we're running things so also for instance,
I've had people emailed that wanted to join that
have YouTube channels and those are like a dime
a dozen like You could snot and have 50 different
ones It's it's more like skipping pennies across
the pond honestly when it comes to YouTube channels
But yeah, I get your point. So I mean I've had
like Half a dozen email me in the last three
months mm -hmm and We don't really cater to that
Yeah podcast We're audio based not video based.
Yeah, so It not that I'm against that because
I do want to try doing ultra geeks video wise,
but I just haven't I'm most of it boils down
to when I get time it's at night and I really
don't feel like being on camera because I'm sitting
in my basement freezing my ass off wearing a
robe and a plain t -shirt and generally just
Don't feel like looking halfway decent, so I
don't want to turn the camera on so I talk in
the microphone instead Yeah, the last time I
heard you talking about altered geek video thing
was you were gonna you just moved into your house
And you were gonna do a before -and -after thing
about yeah, I never happened because I got lazy
And the house is still going through renovation
We did the bathroom twice since we've lived here
which is well the first time we painted the whole
room Second time, we gutted it and then we painted
it. Oh, no. It's like we had tile put in on the
floor and we had tile put in on the bathroom.
We replaced the vanity and the countertop, replaced
the mirror, replaced like, I mean, the only thing
original in that damn room at this point is the
doors and the light fixture. The fans change
like everything in that room has changed. The
toilets even change like everything is. Nothing
in that room is original and so It's yeah, we
still have two rooms that are untouched For the
sheer fact we don't know what we're doing with
them yet And that's the basement bathroom and
the upstairs living room How do you not know
what you're doing with your upstairs? We don't
have any furniture to put in it. So like we've
got actual like patio furniture sitting in there
Geez and and there's like this computer desk
slash like kind of armoire looking Setup that's
sitting in there because we don't have anything
else to put in that space and it really doesn't
serve a purpose but it's It's there more so to
fill space because we don't want the room to
look empty The only time it doesn't look empty
is when it's Christmas time because we have stuff
Place to put the little Christmas village and
then we have the tree so What else On the Site
aspects do we want to discuss Well, we had a
few major changes Well, first of all, the major
change now is the overall the entire site has
been overhauled again Yeah, that's fine whatever
um are we at version 7 .0 now or six i don't
even know where we are okay i wouldn't sure uh
the theme we had had the theme that the two of
us had pretty much liked and we're getting all
all of what we wanted out of it for for the longest
time for this year for back when you did the
major re retooling for year five um was you know
this great thing and as sadly as WordPress updates
web themes don't carry over and we've had to
upgrade and I like the new layout there are several
things we need to work on getting realigned and
fixed and whatever else but that's nothing the
listeners would need to know about but it's overall
I'm happy with it I wish we had a more visual
like a straight slider instead of this three
and three thing that the slider is where it's
like hey the first post is nice and big and then
the next two are really small and the next one's
bad that's one thing I'm just not I don't know
it's just it's just too weird for me Yeah, as
far as designing it what did you When you found
the theme that we have now, what were you really
wanting to get out of it? I Well, I mean I did
the where the sticky menu where it follows along
but it was messing with some of the Some of the
people using the site Which is unfortunate that
it was causing a problem and they sent me a screenshot
So like there's no way that I could have been
like, yeah, it's just your system. But like I
was You know, I mean it was a definite problem
like so I turned it off and it seems to have
fixed the issue I've been trying to be as good
as possible with like anytime somebody sends
me an issue with the site Fixing it and if there's
too many issues then that's like when it's grounds
to start looking for something different Yeah,
but I did manage to get the mega menu fix this
year Which was nice. So now it shows like little
previews of the stuff and it shows the different
categories When you do the the drop -down so
you can kind of see what falls under each category
Which is kind of nice and then the little icons
that go next to them Fixed a lot of other issues
that have shown up on the site as well here or
there. But I like this one for some of the aesthetics
of it. I like the old one too, don't get me wrong,
but there's some things with this one that are
a little simpler to deal with. Yep. We no longer
have the Justin Bieber basketball issue, thank
God. Oh God, that was a couple years ago. I know,
I know. What the deal with that was is I had
a bootleg plug -in that... It wasn't even just
the bootleg one a lot of other regular legit
ones of people's were getting hacked too and
I had one legit one that was You know came right
from WordPress or whatever and it it had a bug
in it because Yeah, not getting into semantics,
but it was a file that had a was renamed to be
a JPEG and it wasn't actually a JPEG it was a
Video no it was it wasn't a video file. It was
a HTML file disguised as a JPEG To execute a
YouTube video that would also execute like some
kind of a callback or something I don't I don't
know what it was, but it was ridiculous So All
right, well as I mentioned earlier my goal this
year was to get as many Interviews in as I could
because I wasn't sure at the beginning of the
year. I wasn't sure how many interviews we were
gonna get Wasn't sure who to go after because
we don't at the beginning of the year. We didn't
have a steady transformer like ATTF was there
but it wasn't you know what I mean and and Beyond
the night is kind of wrapped up and There's no
Current Transformers review show going on right
now. Mask wrapped up. The He -Man show. I still
have to get people for. But so we had 14 overall
interviews this year. The first interview was
in January with Kristy Marks. This was her third
time back. This was the truly outrageous edition.
This is the first time with her being on the
Gem Review podcast Showtime Synergy. That was
a lot of fun with Amy and Nicole. I chatted with
Elliot Rutstein from Shout Factory. So this is
our second person outside of Brian Ward from
Shout Factory. The reason why I had Elliot on
was because Shout Factory, I believe this year
or end of last year, launched their own streaming
service called Shout Factory TV. You can reach
them at shoutfactorytv .com. And honestly, it's
almost better than Netflix and Hulu combined.
Not really when it comes to Hulu and the new
shows, but... Shout Factory TV is pretty awesome.
They've got all kinds of stuff on there. You
don't have to sign up. You just go to shoutfactorytv
.com and you just watch stuff. I know there's
been a big resurgence for Mystery Science Theater
3000. If you're looking for that, Shout Factory's
got all of that stuff. Most of that stuff on
Shout Factory TV. They've just got a lot of cool
content over there. It was nice talking to Elliot.
We had the return of Ian James Corlett. This
was for pixels in the animation because he was
the voice of Mega Man in the 1994 Mega Man series.
Neil and I talked to him. Yeah, he was great
to talk to again. Were you on that one with us?
Yeah. I was on the original one too. Yeah. Back
when the network started. Yeah, it was for Beast
Unleashed. We talked to Elliot in February, talked
to Ian in April. The next one is kind of a big
deal. We got the voice of Jem, Samantha Newark,
in May of this year, chatted with her on Showtime
Synergy. Again, super fun, absolutely awesome
talking to her. I've been working with Doug Abel.
don't even know how we became friends but he
has this podcast called talking about my generation
and he essentially does what we do except it's
all it's just all in one show and he mainly focuses
on cartoons video games and movies mostly um
some tv shows but not a lot uh we had a chance
to interview eg daily who was a buttercup uh
she was dotty and peewees Big adventure, I believe.
So it was really nice talking to her. Optimus
Ollini in July talked with Neil Ross aka Springer
from the Transformers and Keith from Voltron
and all that cool stuff. Joe Reed and I talked
for the second time with editor Bobby Kernow
from IDW Publishing. We talked about all kinds
of Turtles comics. We got a little bit of teases
for the currently running Batman TMNT six -issue
miniseries that DC is doing in conjunction with
NDW. In August we had two interviews. I talked
with Pat Shand from Xenoscope Entertainment.
He is the writer on Robin Hood, Grim Fairy Tales,
and a few other things over there, but his main
series was Robin Hood. I had a blast talking
with him. Talked with a senior editor John Barber
over at IDW. We talked about transformer stuff
We talked about gem stuff all that stuff Remember
when we originally talked with Bob Skeer? Yes
That interview was two hours nine minutes and
something or other or two hours one minute and
some time It was just over two hours the final
product. We broke that record this year Amy Nicole
and I over on Showtime Synergy talked with gem
writer Kelly Thompson and Kelly gave us all kinds
of inside info on what's going on with the gem
comics from IDW. She pretty much all but told
us through the end of the year what was gonna
happen or not what was gonna happen but what
the issues and what the storylines were gonna
be coming for the gem comics that was really
cool that we talked with her. I talked with Tom
Zoller. Actually, this might be the most outside
of our John Delancey interview and outside of
the voice actor interviews. Tom is a comic writer
and illustrator, but he is the only person that
I know of that we've had on an interview that's
actually been on a live action TV game show.
It was on an episode of who wants to be a millionaire
Wow one thirty two thousand dollars But Tom Tom
Zoller is the writer and illustrator of love
and capes That was his first series his second
series which came out this year through IDW was
called long distance Absolutely love that series
if you guys have not checked out long distance
if anyone that's listening to this podcast Has
ever been in a long distance relationship? You
need to read this comic. This is a damn good
comic. It really, really is. It's just so good,
and it was so fun talking with Tom. Joe and I
finally got writer Tom Waltz, who is the head
writer over at IDW's TMNT book. We got him, talked
with him for a while. I chatted with Joe Kramer,
who is the composer and conductor for the Mission
Impossible Rogue Nation score. Very awesome talking
with Joe in that interview. I brought up in researching
him and in preparing for Mission Impossible rogue
nation I wanted to watch the original film the
1996 film and then rogue nation to compare to
almost because next year is mission ones 20th
anniversary, so wanted to compare, you know 20
years of missions and man In the original Mission
Impossible from 1996, Tom Cruise looks so damn
young. And in Rogue Nation, he looks older than
dirt. He just looks so aged. So we brought that
up. So we had Brian Ward back for, I think, the
fourth time. I think it's this, yeah, because
we did Arkham Sessions, we did, yeah, I don't
know. Brian is turned into one of these multiple
returning guest roles at this point for the interviews.
The reason why I wanted to talk with Brian and
more so had nothing to do with the fact that
he is the premier DVD producer at Shout Factory.
We did talk about that and we did talk about
the Mystery Science Theater 3000 thing that they
are doing over at Shout Factory and all that
stuff, but I wanted to talk to him because I
found out and I didn't know, I can't believe
I didn't know this. He's been a short film director
for the past 11 years. The last four shorts that
he's done are what's most indicative of the style
of what he does now. And they're really, really
good. Two out of the four are really my favorites.
One is called rerouting. The other is called
almost midnight. And it was just fun talking
with Brian again. Brian and... Brian will most
likely be back next year for a Pullback Origins
episode for the most part. I'm not sure when
that'll happen, but I'm sure Brian will come
back on. But yeah, we had 14 interviews this
year, not as much as 2014, but I love doing all
the interview stuff. I love getting all that
stuff from those people and just hearing all
the stories and everything else. people go listen
to the interviews please because thank you to
everybody who took the time out of their day
to spend with us to to get these interviews done
it was so cool all right so we talked a little
bit about it earlier but you want to bring up
the any other new additions we had for this year
Well, I know with doing the The top 100 we actually
had a lot more Interaction this year Yeah being
that we reached out to Like I think it was like
31 different places something like that. Yeah
It was it was quite interesting though just to
see How many we? Reached out to and it turned
out to be such a massive list So I mean in the
in that I was kind of surprised how well it How
well it took off But I Mean, I don't really know
of all that much more that that went on this
year that was that was kind of all that much
different. So what were the top five downloads
of the year? Still working on that one. Okay,
well, we'll come back to that. As always, we're
not going to spend a whole lot of time on this,
but we do have to bring up, I did want to find
some, my goal in the future for next year's year
in review is to kind of track the biggest news
articles. of the year. I was going to do it this
year, but it just got too late. As always, we're
going to bring up a few celebrity deaths. It's
not just because they died, but it is because
they died that we can then look back and reflect
on what kind of career or how they touched our
lives. That's really the only reason why I've
always had us do the celebrity death thing. There
are some pretty big deaths this year. As a kid,
I remember watching 60 minutes all the time sadly
Bob Simon passed away this year Sam Simon, I
don't think they're any relation but one of the
Simpsons co -creators died this year BB King
passed away James Horner Dick Van Patten Wes
Craven yeah Yvonne Craig Batgirl I love her as
Batgirl and then probably the biggest one well
two of the biggest ones Christopher Lee most
people will know him from horror and sci -fi
but most people will know him as Count Dooku
or Saruman from Lord of the Rings Or scar manga
from man with a golden gun, which is a James
Bond film So that was one of the biggest ones
and the biggest death of the year He's Living
long and prospering up there in heaven. I guess
Leonard Nimoy passed away this year, which is
unfortunate. It's just crazy And I don't want
to make light of the situation, but all as I
can think in my head as well, at least now, the
Star Trek people have to figure out other ideas
for the films. I know. I know. But no, I mean,
it's Leonard Nimoy, it's Spock, he's the voice
of Galvishon in the 86 Transformers movie. I
think... because he's always been known as Spock,
because that was his main thing there. I think
in the last five or six years, my favorite moments
of him kind of reprising that was when he was
on the Big Bang Theory as Spock, whether it was
this. Yeah. I mean whether it was the little
toy and the little toy episode or whether it
was you know Just a voice in Sheldon's head,
but yes always a huge And it's just crazy What?
What if any memories do you have from any of
these people or any any part of their career
you want to talk about? Like Christopher Lee
I remember him from a lot of movies, and he's
very iconic I remember him like I said from Lord
of the Rings from Star Wars prequels He was in
that crappy Remake of a certain movie Which I
don't want to mention by name personally because
I can remember until about now but I'm getting
old, I can't remember stuff. Oh please, don't
even try. Don't even, I'm six years older than
you, don't even try. My brain can only harness
so much energy. Just don't even go. What? So
yeah, there's that, and then of course Leonard
Nimoy, everything in Star Trek, I mean he's shown
up in... Obviously the original series. He's
shown up in most movies. He's shown up in He's
You know, he's shown up in the the reboots he's
shown up in TNG It's it's just it's crazy. He's
done a lot of stuff and then You know you find
Craig the only thing I know her from his bat
girl. Yeah, that's But I mean, yeah, that's A
lot of iconic people have passed away and unfortunately,
you know, every year we're going to run into
this problem. We're going to see a lot more of
these people, you know, drop like flies, which
is unfortunate. Yeah. All right. I think we're
going to take a quick break. You're going to
hear a few musical selections. Because I'm gonna
go over my top five soundtracks of the year.
So we'll be back after this Alright folks before
I get to my top five soundtrack albums of the
year Steve has the numbers So guess what the
top five Most downloaded shows were now mind
you this is only since This is one of the other
changes we made we we have our podcast hosted
through blog talk radio Which is tremendously
freed up our bandwidth And our hosting So What's
your guess of what the top five shows are? Talking
in Circles, Cinema Geeks, Altered Geek, Showtime
Synergy, and Powers of Grayskull. Okay. Here's
the numbers. Well, the top five. The number one
show... Most downloaded. Right. TuneCast Classic.
Yeah, but this... Okay, you know what's really
funny about that, that you mentioned that? I
was actually looking at the TuneCast Classic
blog talk page because I had... This year, I
wanted to get people over to Tooncast Beyond,
so I added two episodes this year. I added the
Gargoyles episode, and I added the Goofy Movie
episode. But the crazy thing is, when I looked
at the numbers, the interview I did on November
19th of last year with John Semper Jr., where
we talked about 20 years of the Spider -Man The
Animated Series, that has archived... Well, whatever
the archive numbers are I assume it's I assume
it's downloads it has one that interview is one
thousand two hundred and thirteen downloads according
to this funny and then the gargoyles episode
For tooncast beyond which like I said, I threw
on tooncast classic to kind of get people to
come over to tooncast beyond one thousand one
hundred and thirty six for that one episode Nice.
It's just awesome. Alright, so to cast classic
is the number one still yes number two the cast
radio why we barely had any episodes i mean i'm
not at the top one hundred and it's got all those
like oh yeah it's got it's got the top one hundred
i mean outside of the top one hundred we had
We had episodes 70 something to well episode
75 was the year in review last year So we had
episode 76 to 80 well 76 to now. It's a 90. So
we had Wow, we really had almost 15 episodes
this year Wow, I didn't think GCR had that many
episodes because I know two of them were The
kind of Kickstarter for mayhem mics, but okay,
so geek cast radios number two. Okay Number three.
All things transformers. Okay. Number four. Showtime
synergy. Wow, that's cool. And number five. Power's
a gray skull. Oh, pull bag. Oh wow, I was not
expecting that. Anything anybody listen to that
show? Followed by from the command center. Which
will have a huge and actually I already made
a huge announcement about that But we'll have
another huge announcement about that coming later
on in the show All right, my top five albums.
These are soundtrack albums It's mainly from
La La Land Records because that's who I write
soundtrack reviews for Coming in at number five
is He -Man and the Masters of the Universe It
took them a few years, finally. It actually took
them 32 years to actually get the soundtrack
or so to the animated series, Filmation, He -Man
and the Master's Universe. This is two disc,
100 and something tracks. I think it's 111 total
tracks, music from the show. Absolutely love
it. It's just so cool. I wish La La Land Records
would do more 80s animated series soundtracks.
Oh God, can you imagine if they did G1, Beast
Wars, Beast... Oh God, I would love that so much.
Number four is the 1993 Tom Cruise movie, The
Firm. I have been waiting and waiting. This is
another one of those scores, just like a couple
years ago with Days of Thunder. I've just been
waiting for this score to come out because I
actually love this music So that's number four
Number three is a movie. We will be getting to
an M wire in the new year Kingsman the Secret
Service that score done by Henry Jackman and
Matthew Margeson that score is Probably the most
unique film score. I have really really heard
that isn't franchise that isn't something I would
most expect for like it isn't something that
I had you know had a huge fan base for because
the Kingsman of Secret Services adapted from
Martin LR's comic of the same name so this was
something when I listen to that score I was like
oh my god this is awesome that was yeah it was
number two the flash season one score by Blake
Neely I've been wondering if LLN Records was
going to get around to releasing the Flash music,
because Flash is two seasons in now, almost,
well, it's still in the middle of the second
season at this point. And I was really wondering,
and I am so glad they finally, oh man, just listening
to this, Blake Neely just kind of outdoes himself.
And I've written reviews and I've listened to
the first two seasons of Arrow. I still have
to write my review as of this recording for Arrow
season three's score, but the first two seasons
of Arrow, the music was so great. But with Flash,
because Flash is a somewhat brighter show than
Arrow, you have a lot more fun. instruments you
have a lot more fun musical tones and it's just
so so so cool and my number one because I just
can't stop listening to it is Joe Kramer's Mission
Impossible Rogue Nation People if you've ever
watched the Mission Impossible television series
if you even know the original theme You're gonna
want to hear this score because Joe Interspurses
the three different sections or four different
sections of the original theme Throughout his
original composition and score for this movie,
and it's just So good. You listen to that first
track, the A4400 track. A4400 is the name of
it, because I think it's the name of the plane.
You listen to track one, and by the next thing
you know, you're going to be listening to the
whole thing. It's just absolutely awesome. So
we're going to take another quick break, and
we're going to come back with my top five comics
and Steve's top five video games. And after this...

Alright folks, it's time for the top five Comics
and games. What is your top five video games
of the year, sir? Well my top five video games
my new couple of these might not be from this
year But I'm listing them because I've played
them this year, okay My number five is Mass Effect
3 Put this because Dodd And it is it is a good
game yeah Can't wait for the new Mass Effect
game coming out next year My number four is Deadpool
That game is everything you expect it to be and
more Difficult and you get to hear Deadpool having
inner conversation with himself in two different
voices As long as Van Wilder is one of them.
It wasn't, unfortunately, because this was before
the movie. Oh, then that bites. So, yeah, I am
psyched for that movie. My next one is Diablo
III because I recently got back into the game
and discovered that they have seasons now in
the game. Yeah, I think they were in season four
and I keep the game updated, but I never play
and then when I started playing again I was like,
oh wow, there's a lot different My next one the
number two is transformers devastation just got
that for Christmas I Really like it I've played
through the first three chapters of the game.
I have all the Autobots unlocked You only get
wheeljack Bumblebee Sideswipe, Grimlock, and
Prime. Grimlock is like Donkey Balls in the game,
but Prime is the bomb. I took down Devastator
with him. It's great. So yeah, I love that game.
Battlefield 4 is my last, my number one, just
for the sheer fact that my family provided it
for me so that I could play, and it's oddly addicting.
I'm not very good at it, but it is fun. I know
this is going to be a completely different experience
for you. You ought to check out Battlefield Vietnam.
That game was awesome way back in the day. By
2016, it'll be eight years that I've been playing
Grand Theft Auto IV. Anyway, for my top five
comics, number five is He -Man the Eternity War.
Oh, man. DC is doing what Dan Abnett and Pop
Mahon and all the artists are doing on this this
book is like filmation and 2002 and all that
stuff just come to life and it's just so so awesome
they're just doing my only gripe is the current
story arc is their their working on a struggle
between king hiss and and prince adam and that's
just kind of getting old but other than that
overall i'm really loving the eternity war number
four is transformers robots in disguise the animated
comic this is a based off of the uh... the new
cartoon network tv show uh... is just fun you
should be reading this to your kids honestly
it's just so so friggin fun uh... it's It's like
another G1 for today's standards as far as the
way the comic is. It's just so cool. Number three
is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, ongoing from
IDW. Have you read this at all? Have you ever
read any of these issues from the IDW TMNT book?
Not really, but that's more so because I just
don't read all that much of anything anymore.
It's not really like anything against comics
in general. I just know yeah, I'm a lazy person
I've had a lot of school going on. So well, yeah
I'm telling you man. You need to read this book.
It is the entire thing from beginning to current
It is a complete love letter to the entire history
of TMNT This year we started out with the The
second part of Attack on Technodrome, we ended
on issue 53, which was part one of a two -part
story. We had the Casey and April miniseries
this year. We had the start of the Batman TMNT,
which thankfully the DC... Run Batman TMNT six
-issue mini -series crossover is not in continuity
with either the IDW TMNT book or DC's main Batman
stuff So it's on its own completely which is
more than fine with me, but the overall TMNT
audio There's a lot of stuff that happened this
year One of them being the supposed death of
Donatello Yeah, I well I don't want to spoil
it for anybody that hasn't read it specifically
you because it's just going to create I know
generally you don't like spoilers I don't I know
I know you don't mind the spoilers, but dude
you this is something I'm gonna have to have
you read because oh my god, it is just so So
emotionally heart -wrenching. Oh how he dies
how he? Comes back guys just so good You spoiled
it. No, I didn't. I didn't tell you how. No,
I didn't. Just told us he returns. Well, but
I didn't tell you the how and the why and the...
Because he's got mutagen blood? No. He can eat
hercules, hercules. Shut up. My number two is
Gem in the Holograms from IDW. Are you sensing
a trend here, folks? Four of my top five are
from IDW. And there's me. Well, yeah. Three of
my top five, not four. Jim and the Holograms,
new comic, it's just so amazing. Kelly Thompson,
Sophie Campbell, all the other artists that have
been on it. Emma Viseli, just kicking ass on
that book. It's basically reinventing and bringing
Jim into a new audience. And my number one is
Tom Zoller's Long Distance. Like I said, I kid
you not, I've read this book this year, these
four, because it's a four -issue miniseries.
It's now collected in trade paperback. I've read
this story at least 25 times since it's come
out. It's just that damn good. Absolutely love
it. So we're gonna take another quick break.
We're gonna come back with our top five TV shows
after this It's showtime synergy the latest review
podcast from the geek cast radio network is here
So join TFG one Mike Nicole hailstorm and myself
lady rec as we will be reviewing all 65 episodes
of Joe and the holograms in a 25 episode long
podcast You can find Showtime Synergy on iTunes
and GeekCastRadio .com. We are the truly outrageous
podcast that you want to be listening to. It
is time to talk some TV. What are your top five
TV shows of 2015, sir? My top five, starting
off with my number five is Heroes Reborn. I actually
enjoyed the show. It was very reminiscent for
me of season one of Heroes and what it should
have been. So in that sense, I'm really happy
that it came back. And it takes place in real
time. When I say real time, I mean as if the
show had continued. So there's that and that
makes it very nice My next one is Supergirl currently
blitzing through that right now with my wife.
She actually enjoys that more than Some other
shows So yeah, there's that Then I have the blacklist
because it just it's a good show I've pretty
much dropped off that one this year. I don't
know. This season has been rough. I will give
you that. It's not even that. It's more so a
timing issue. It's really what it is. And I just
kind of because... Okay. Gunshots. Yay. Because
I no longer have cable television in my apartment.
I basically have all the stuff on streaming and
whatever else nowadays. So it's like, that one
has just been kind of one of those ones where
it's like, oh, hey, yeah, I should really catch
up on that. But I just haven't. It has nothing
to do with the content of whatever the hell's
going on in season three. I just haven't caught
up with it. But go ahead. Why is the blacklist
on your list? Because it's James Spader. Then
moving on, I have Arrow. Because why not this
it's it's arrow. It's discount Batman It you
know and this season actually been really good,
and I like the new suit I like that he's calling
himself green arrow, and I just like the premise
in general. It's getting a lot better And then
my number one is the flash Same reasons I ranked
it the way I did in the top 100 I really enjoy
the show so it's it's been really good, and I
like how cohesive it's been with the rest of
the universe and Doing its own thing so I gotta
give it props there. So yeah, that's my top five.
Alright, for me, number five is Gotham. Oh, everyone
hates Gotham, but season two has gotten a lot
better. And they are actually going in a direction
that is more Batman -like even though Batman's
only still a kid. uh... because they're progressing
penguin and redler they're introducing freeze
in there no more fish mooney uh... issues in
a glass bottle so the fish tank man c -r tank
i was gonna say kinda like uh... the bottle city
of candor great it's the last thing we need is
batman versus superman on the small screen too
But no Gotham is really been kick -ass. It has
really been something that is a joy for me at
first I thought they were gonna go The Court
of Owls route with the whole they still are No,
I know, but I'm just saying the whole Theo Galavan
Galavan thing and the the name the original name
like I yeah, I really thought Asriel Right no
no no yeah, I'm just saying originally when the
whole conspiracy aspect of all that came up I
really thought that especially when the cult
came in the the religious guide the I Really
thought they were going for court of vows at
that point, but not yet Number four is girl meets
world girl meets world has um grown up a lot
in its second season Farkel's not so Farkely
anymore He's I mean, I know these kids are gonna
grow up these kids are gonna age and all that
stuff but it just I Remember for the longest
time on boy meets world minkus was always this
this, you know short statured kid and didn't
really grow up like I don't Yeah, kind of But
I don't remember seeing minkus grow up with the
rest of them Yeah, cuz he just turned off the
show until the last season like where they graduated
Yeah But girl meets world that they're they're
doing a lot of cool things on that show actually
Miko It's good. It's girl meets world is a Transformers
Prime reference now Miko is on that show is the
teacher Tanya Gennady Who is the voice of Miko
and Transformers Prime is the teacher Harper
Lee? The the the English teacher on the show
that's pretty awesome Number three as always
I gotta put it in here somewhere the Big Bang
Theory This year I wanted to write out a whole
long Blog thing of why the Big Bang Theory is
more than just making fun of geekdom people just
seeing people just see this show see like the
first two seasons and just assume that it's all
about the no this show in its nine seasons Is
all about the character growth between season
8 and season 9 season 8 last year season 9 this
year Sheldon almost asked Amy to marry him or
he was going to before she broke up I mean like
you wouldn't have that kind of character growth
from Sheldon in season 1. I mean You know Leonard
and Penny are married, but it's pretty much turned
into a couple show really it really has cuz you
got Leonard and Penny you got Howard and Bernadette
You got well you had Sheldon and Amy and you
had Raj and Emily or whoever the hell Raj is
I don't know whatever but I just I still love
the Big Bang Theory I will always love the Big
Bang Theory more so for the characters than the
what the jokes actually are so number two is
Supergirl I love this show I'm glad it's Supergirl
and not Superman and yeah, I've had a few quibbles
with them consistently showing Superman, but
I Just really dig this show. This show is really
cool. I don't even care that they Racially bit
Jimmy Olsen at this point because the actor that's
playing his man. Yeah, he's absolutely awesome
You couldn't get a better Jimmy Olsen today Just
Absolutely awesome. I love that they have Peter
Fasinelli as as Maxwell Lord Peter Fasinelli
for anyone that doesn't know he was Mike Dexter
in can't hardly wait. He was He was Van Ray in
fast lane from Fox. So It's really really cool.
I love seeing the characters on the screen. I
can't wait to see what they do with that show.
I know everyone was up in arms. Oh my god, Supergirls
is gonna be sad because it's on CBS. They're
like, but it's CBS. They don't know how to do
blah blah blah. It's turned out pretty damn good
so far. And of course, number one, just like
you, Duff Lash. I mean, how can you not? Flash
how can you not have the flashes number one?
I mean, and I know folks. We're not these Steve
and I are not the World TV travelers that most
people are we don't watch Doctor Who we don't
watch BBC America or any of that kind of stuff
and all that but I mean With the flash again
character development character building and
it's just such a cool show It really is So we're
gonna take another quick break and we're gonna
come back with our top five cartoons of the year
after this. The Powers of Grayskull series will
cover every episode of all four Masters of the
Universe cartoons. Join Optimus Solo and myself,
TF2 and Mike, as we tell tales of Eternia, discover
the myths of Etheria, become Masters in Space,
and finally Masters of Grayskull. We'll have
a commentary on the Secret of the Sword film
and a few other special episodes. You can find
this 125 episode long podcast in iTunes and on
the web at GeekCastRadio .com. By the power and
honor of Grayskull, we all have the power. Alright
it is time for the top five cartoons, but Steve
only has three, so what are your three? A, B,
and C. No, um, my... I started out with number
three, so they're all my top three. They're all
my favorites. Yeah. I have TMNT, followed by
Transformers RID, which... needs to come back
with season 2 so we can get more Transformers
Prime people. And then we have Star Wars Rebels,
which has been spectacular. Yeah, I watched the
first season. I haven't watched the second season
yet. Oh, it's good. Oh, I'm sure it is. I'm sure.
I want to watch it. It's good. It's good. It's
good. Just haven't yet. For me, I do... Okay,
so... Four of these I've seen multiple episodes
of and multiple seasons Well, one of them I've
seen multiple seasons since one of them has multiple
seasons my number five choice I put it on here
because I was trying to rack my brain of what
I had four and I'm like, okay I need I need a
fifth one. So am I gonna do I had gotten when
it was free at the time. I'd gotten the premiere
of the new Guardians of the Galaxy animated series,
and I really dug that premiere, so that's making
it at number five. Even though the voice cast
is not actually the actors from the film, they're
pretty good sound -alikes. In the film, you have
Vin Diesel as Groot. In the animated series,
you have Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot. It's
pretty damn close. Did you ever watch Alvin and
the Chipmunks when you were a kid? Yeah. They
have from the same studio, from the original
studio, they have a new Nickelodeon, a new Alvin
and the Chipmunks series. I've watched several
episodes of that, really dig that. My girlfriend
Jen got me into, she's the only person that could
probably ever get me to watch this. I have not,
because of... always seeing ads for it and whatever
else and just not being into the whole supernatural
kind of scary kind of thing i was so not into
gravity falls but she got me into it and i've
seen the first season in the first episode of
the second season of gravity falls absolutely
love the show it's really really cool number
two is tmnt Season four started this year. They
went space which is what they always do in every
incarnation, but that's okay I'm still really
digging it. I've finally gotten used to Seth
Green being the voice of Leonardo DiCaprio instead
of the pie fucker Leonardo DiCaprio Bad Titanic
joke folks Leonardo instead of Jason Biggs. And
the whole space thing has always just been really,
really interesting to me with TMNT because I'm
like, okay, you know, you go to the 2003 series
and they have the little breathing apparatuses
and here they are using space suits. Because
I've actually seen like the first few episodes
of season four, but again, I haven't really kept
up with it. And my number one is the 7D. 7D from
Disney and Tom Ruger and all those guys. It's
got Bill Farmer as Doc. It's got Billy West as
Bashful. It's got Stephen Stanton as either Sleepy
or Sneezy, I forget. It's one of the two. Just
absolutely love the 7D. Its second season is
finally premiering next month in January on Disney
XD. Absolutely love the 7D. If you haven't seen
the 7D, folks, go check it out. Because it's
pretty much 30 years before they meet Snow White
and Just it's got Maurice LaMarche is grumpy.
I mean, come on this just awesome All right,
final countdown is our top ten movies we're gonna
get to that after this Top ten movies of the
year for myself and Steve. What are your top
ten, sir? My number ten is The Cobbler. It wouldn't
be a GCRN year -end show without an Adam Sandler
film. Oh, so you're not gonna put six days of
whatever the hell? The Ridiculous Six? That was
blasphemous bullshit that he put out. I don't
know what was going through his head other than
he was like, hey, I got the paycheck already.
Might as well shoot a shitty movie. Because that
was by far one of the worst movies I've ever
seen of Adam Sandler. And that's saying something.
I normally don't like his serious stuff all that
much, but I'd take any of those over watching
this because it was like two hours of my life
that I can't get back. But I watched it knowing
that it was going to be shit. because Mary watched
it and she's a huge connoisseur of Adam Sandler
stuff as well and we made it about 10 minutes
in and she's like, is this going to be how the
whole movie is? And I says, I'm pretty sure.
And she says, I don't need to see anymore. So
we turned on pixels and started watching that
instead. And when she went to sleep, I finished
Ridiculous 6. I would not recommend that movie
at all, but The Cobbler I would because it's
about a guy who owns a, you know, he's a cobbler.
He puts together shoes, you know, kind of like
the old thing with the elves and all that kind
of stuff. Well, he fixes them and his sewing
machine breaks and there's this enchanted one
in the basement and it allows you to walk in
another man's shoes. So, like, if you fix it
using this sewing machine and he puts the shoes
on, he can become that person temporarily. So.
as long as he's wearing the shoes. So he got
into a lot of funny situations in the film, and
it was pretty good. And then it shows that Dustin
Hoffman's his dad and that kind of stuff. But
he's disappeared, but he can become him by wearing
his shoes for his mom's purpose, because she's
got Alzheimer's kind of thing, just so she can
see him for one last time or whatever. So it's
a really good movie. My number nine is Hot Tub
Time Machine 2. No John Cusack, no thank you.
Yeah, it wasn't as good without John Cusack,
but I think it's because of how ridiculous this
film was. Why he didn't come back. Although he
did come back. He was in about a minute of the
movie. It was really funny how they brought them
in really quick just to say screw it. So yeah,
I thought that that was really fun. So getting
into my next one, I have home. So you finally
saw this, huh? Oh yeah, I have it. I'll talk
about that later, but what were your overall
thoughts on it? I really enjoyed it. My son enjoyed
it as well. We've been spending a lot of time
watching movies lately, so it was one that...
It was family friendly for not being a Pixar
film. It is DreamWorks, so... Well, normally
DreamWorks is not family friendly. Yeah, normally.
and next my next one is pixels I still haven't
seen that it's a Adam Sandler movie again yeah
looks like one of the worst video game movies
it's actually pretty fun and then my next one
is Tomorrowland yeah which again is based off
a Disney ride but it was refreshing to see. And
it's actually a movie George Clooney plays really
well for a grouchy old man. So yeah, we have
that. And then getting into my next film, I have
Spy. It is pretty freaking great. It's got Melissa
McCarthy in it. Jason Statham. Jason Statham.
Who is awesome? Mm -hmm He plays a parody of
himself Yeah, pretty much That's the thing with
Statham when he's not doing an Expendables role
or when he's not doing a transporter role, which
I think he's pretty much done doing the transporter
stuff But well, they pre -cast him on everything.
But the funny thing is is he was playing parodies
of all of his characters he's ever played So
it made it really Really funny Yeah Well, that's
the interesting thing about him as an actor is
when he's not doing these these big things. He's
doing He's essentially playing the same role
over, you know, you take a film like the mechanic
or a film You know, I've seen him in this kind
of loner role Whether it's like I said the transporter
role where he's he's the he's the driver whether
it's the mechanic where he's a hit man He always
ends up playing the same role and it's just kind
of funny. Yeah spy I'm so not I've tried watching
stuff with Melissa McCarthy She's probably one
of the worst women in Hollywood in my opinion
at this point not bad The the thing about that
movie that that makes it bad is the incessantly
swearing like over and over and over What's next
on your list next on my list is I'm gonna get
flack for this Terminator Genesis Yeah, I say
that because I enjoyed Terminator So it's to
me I I think it's I don't think it's that bad
of a movie But you know to each their own Could
be worse could be salvation it actually I've
watched all five of them And they're all Equally
good in their own way and the thing I get to
give salvation props for is It does something
different hmm It actually takes place in the
current time and then you have There's no time
travel the whole movie is in that time. So it's
actually really refreshing to see that. So anyways,
this film is rather good in some aspects. It
could be better, but it's still, I give it a
pass. And then we have, following that, I have
Avengers Age of Ultron. what game wouldn't have
a comic book film on there. So yeah, I have that.
I don't think I need to say anything about that
film. Yeah. So moving on from there, I have Jurassic
World. Which surprisingly wasn't that bad, but
there were a lot of stupidisms in that film.
But I get why people wouldn't saw it because
it's still a hell of a lot better than Jurassic
Park 2 and 3. Yeah. There's no way that it could
have been worse. Well, I mean, there is, but
thankfully it wasn't. So I'm glad that that,
of all of them, to get a sequel, that's one of
them. So, then my number one, if you're a geek
and you don't put this, you're just a dick, Star
Wars The Force Awakens. What if you haven't seen
it yet? How can I put something on my list if
I have not yet seen it outside of trailer doesn't
matter just go see it Anyways so the film is
It's it's actually pretty freaking good I went
with my brother to go see it, and there are intentions
to see this again. As soon as my father -in -law
recovers from his recent surgery, I will return
to the force far, far away. All right. My top
ten. Did you have any honorable mentions at all?
I had a few, but they aren't worth mentioning.
I have one honorable mention, only because I
have to review it on Showtime Synergy. I did
see Gem of the Holograms before it got yanked.
I think it's funny that it got yanked. I feel
bad for the people that created it and that were
involved in the original inception. Jim and the
Holograms the film is an amalgamation of what
the animated series was they they try so much
to mix everything together and also they try
to modernize it for today's standards, but I
Don't know you'll I'm trying my best not to give
my full opinion of the movie because like I said
We're gonna be reviewing the whole thing on Showtime
synergy in the near future So but that's an honorable
mention number ten Justice League gods and monsters
This was an animated film from the DC original
animated movies that I was not sure I wanted
to really see because this was Bruce Tim's original
Interpretation of what he wanted the Justice
League to be when he was coming up with um I
believe that's what it was when he was coming
up with um what we have as the Justice League
Justice League Unlimited cartoon this was one
of his original ideas uh and this is like an
alternate timeline thing I liked it it was all
right it was cool but it just wasn't my kind
of Justice League movie uh number nine Justice
League Throne of Atlantis I really dug this uh
thought it was really interesting um It's essentially
the Enemy Below kind of storyline from... If
you've seen the two -parter from Justice League
Season 1, Enemy Below, it's basically Arthur
and Orm fighting over who's gonna have the kingdom,
but the interesting thing is here is the way
they write this out. This is based on the New
52 Justice League comic, so they kind of adapt
that into it, and I really dug that. James Bond,
number 24. Spectre. uh... comes in at number
eight i dug the movie but i'm kinda getting sick
of daniel cragg as james bond i want a new bonder
hey he likes being a stormtrooper now leave him
alone I mean, Spectre was good. It just wasn't
the movie that was advertised for trailers. The
way the trailers advertised Spectre was they
tried to play up this whole angle of Bond had
something to do with Spectre, or he was recruited
by Spectre, and that's not exactly at all what
the movie was whatsoever. Well, what I took from
the concept... What was specter about like overall
like I'm trying to it's Reader's Digest version.
Oh god. I don't know. Yeah, maybe no Canadian
bacon overall, it's What they're because what
they're trying to kiss Daniel Craig made this
this comment after specter came out somewhere
online where he said to some outlet or something
where he said something about he'd rather kill
himself than play bond again but he said something
more i don't know what the actual direct quote
was but it was something like he would rather
commit suicide than play james bond again so
i think what they were trying to do was tie in
his whole line so they basically connected the
previous three films to specter With all the
villains like mention like they're all part of
of of of the specter organization or all they
all were and it's I don't even know I Don't watch
the movie again. It's I Don't know. I did like
it. Like I said, I thought it was really cool
The action stuff and it was great the stuff with
Q. The new Q was great. I thought that was cool
But it's still not I'm just so ready for new
bond people number seven age of Ultron I Really
dug age of Ultron. I thought James Spader was
awesome as Ultron, but This movie just felt like
there was something it wasn't until Tony Realized
what was going on after Jarvis was supposedly
killed It wasn't until the whole bird thing a
vision that I Really got into the movie and I
know that's like almost the last half of the
film And I have to watch the movie again, but
when I went to the theater and saw it. I really
really did dig it Number six, I know you're you're
gonna have some negative things to say about
this because I know you say it's not safe for
kids And it really isn't honestly it's not about
the Indians They're not onions they're bananas
Minions that's right. Okay, so Here's the thing
about minions folks minions is a prequel It is
a prequel along the lines of Monsters University
where it butts up so nicely against what despicable
me was so you watch minions you get the origin
of the minions and By the end of the movie you
get them going with Gru and then you go in to
watch Despicable Me and bing bam boom there's
your uncle that's the origin for the minions
um I dug minions I thought it was fun because
I love the minions yeah it's not for kids it's
more for I really think the minions move Minions
movie was really for the adult fans more so than
the kids and I know a lot of parents Probably
took their kids to this movie. I don't know why
but I really dug it. It's just so cool. All is
these guys want is a boss I Know but it's just
so funny. I mean I mean Dracula that was hilarious
the poor diet the poor Tyrannosaurus Rex It's
just just hilarious Number five is home home
is awesome home is Sheldon Cooper as an alien
You know You you you have the this race of aliens
called the boov and the boov are pretty much
cowards for the most part they all want to run
away and as the film progresses you're wondering
are they going to continue to run away run away
run away run away or what what's going to happen
and their arch enemies um which is actually only
one because he's the last of his race it turns
into this really home to me is a friends or family
kind of movie Know what I mean? Like, you know,
if you don't have any blood relatives around
you a lot of friends your friends become your
family kind of thing and that's kind of what
happened with with home with with With oh and
in tip and pig and all that stuff and I just
I really dug that movie. It was just so cool
Number four is inside out. Have you seen inside
out? Yeah, I didn't really care for it though
really It was too inside out for me Okay, so
Inside Out is the latest film from Pixar. Well,
it's actually the first of two films from Pixar
this year. The other one was The Good Dinosaur,
which came out... Wasn't that impressive, that
one either. Inside Out is the better of the two,
in my personal opinion. Inside Out is all about
Riley and her emotions, and they track how different
emotions work and work together and don't work
together. I just thought it was a really, really
nice psychological look at how emotions work.
I think it's probably the deepest movie that
Pixar has ever done as far as content. And I
just overall just really dig it. I mean, plus
got Lewis Black is anger. That's awesome. That
is just awesome. Number three, Kingsman, the
Secret Service. This is by far one of if not
the best spy movies or as Samuel Jackson, the
movie said, this ain't that kind of movie. I
loved Kingsman. Kingsman was awesome. Considering
I'm not the hugest fan of anything British. All
yeah, I'm the same way which is funny because
I get a lot of British followers. Yeah But yeah
that movie was like really good I It's like and
it kept poking fun at James Bond throughout the
entire film. Yep, which was another fun point
But yeah, I mean I I definitely can't wait till
the second one, but I'm really kind of I'm kind
of sad that they killed one of the characters
in the film. See, I don't want there to be a
second one. This isn't a movie that I need to
see what happens to the to the two main male
and female characters after the end of the like...
I don't know. It's just not a movie I think needs
a sequel. But I absolutely love this entire movie.
I thought it was great. Number two, Furious 7.
Now, I know everyone's gonna do a big groan and
turn off the show for a while while I talk about
this, but Furious 7, ever since Fast and the
Furious, or Fast and Furious, Fast 4, essentially,
the fourth film in the franchise, ever since
that movie and they started setting up the story
and they really started really paying it off
in Fast 5 and obviously 6, the franchise has
become more than just... Movie about street racers
or movie about cars, you know street racing and
all that stuff It's it's more so about the characters
and fast seven because of Paul Walker's passing
last year They obviously had to reshoot a bunch
of stuff, but they they give Paul Walker's character
a really really good send -off the entire movie
I absolutely loved it the stunts in that the
action the fights all that good stuff It's just
nice seeing the character evolution of Brian
O 'Connor Paul Walker's character and seeing
how the movie and it's just so cool as a little
furious so and number one I'm gonna Be looking
out my back door here for Steve to come at me
with a lightsaber because I said I have not seen
the other movie yet Number one mission impossible
rogue nation. Hey you tree hug and hit I can't
okay Listeners, please comment on this episode
and explain to him how the hell can I put a movie
on my list that I have yet to see? If I had seen
Star Wars before we did this, I would have put
it on here somewhere. But Mission Impossible
Rogue Nation, if you've never seen a Mission
Impossible movie before, you don't have to watch
any of the previous films to watch this film.
This film, Joe Kramer is the composer and conductor,
but Christopher McCrory is the director on it.
And they wanted to make this as a sequel to the
television series, more so than a sequel to the
rest of the films. in the Tom Cruise Mission
Impossible franchise, and it really does work.
It's just such a good film. The stunts, the music,
the action. You've got Tom Cruise hanging off
of an airplane. It's just so cool. You've got
him doing all kinds of really, really awesome
stunts. The final scene and how they catch the
villain mirrors how the villain Captured Tom
in the beginning of the movie, but it's just
so cool when you and you finally see how it's
done It's got it's got Hawkeye in it. It's got
Jeremy Renner What he was also in a born movie
and that was very good either Well, I'm doing
what you do to Van Wilder with your Yeah, but
see, here's the thing. At least Jeremy Renner
can play multiple characters. Ryan Reynolds is
a one -stick pony. So is Jeremy Renner. Not really.
He plays the angry archer and everything. Not
with this, he doesn't. He does. No, he doesn't.
You haven't even seen this one. I know, I'm screwing
with you the same way you do with... I'm going
to kill you. He plays one of the... He plays
the head of the IMF, and the IMF in the movie
has to get folded into the CIA. And the head
of the CIA is Colonel Sanders. No, Alec Baldwin.
But no, Mission Impossible Rogue Nation by far
one of, if not the best action film of the year
for me. Absolutely love seeing that. Uh, we are
going to take a quick break. You're going to
hear the clips from smeared ink, uh, which is
the, uh, improvisational podcast on the network.
Uh, Hunnic outcast has a clip and in session
film also sent us a clip and then you're going
to hear a couple of ads as well. And we're going
to come back and talk about the only email that
we got, uh, telling us what they liked about
us in 2015. And then we're going to tease the
2016 plans after this. coming in 2016 Steve Megachon
and myself TF2 and Mike bring you a brand new
TV review show welcome to podcaster meets world
that's right We're launching a Boy and Girl Meets
World review podcast here on the GCRN. It'll
take us 70 episodes of the podcast to review
all 158 episodes of Boy Meets World. After that,
we will tackle Girl Meets World. You can find
Podcaster Meets World on GeekCastRadio .com and
iTunes starting late summer, early fall 2016.
So come on and walk through the world with us.
I am shocked and dismayed. Well, now you can't
be both you be shocked I'll be dismayed Here
by my voice starting to get a little laryngitis
and bad allergies I took a much deserved vacay
in Orlando when I was at Island of Adventure
Universal between going on Harry Potter forbidden
journey escaped from Gringotts Space Mountain
seven dwarfs mine train Big Thunder Mountain,
Splash Mountain. My voice is shot. I do want
to take this time because I believe like last
year I'm allowed 10 minutes. Year in review.
A lot has changed from 2014 to 2015 for Hanagau
Kiss. I do miss my co -host Wyatt Jones. I'm
not too sure why he dropped off the face of the
earth, but if you're out there Wyatt, the door
is always open. I do enjoy still talking to your
friend and my friend Dane Lamont who when he
gets a chance will appear on an episode here
and there. But this year was great because I
started to do some interviews and I interviewed
an anchor by the name of Kendra Hale and we hit
it off and then she emailed me she was like what
do you have next? And I said well Mortal Kombat
X is coming out so I was going to review Mortal
Kombat and Annihilation and the TV show. She
emails me back, I'm in. Then she introduced me
to her husband Edward who wanted a guest and
we all hit it off and we started to interview
comic book writers and illustrators in the indie
market and eventually we came across Todd Davis
and he's a huge Batman fan and he liked to discuss
other things so I was like well do you want a
guest on we're talking about Arkham Knight because
that video game is coming out and we're gonna
be discussing some of the movies related to Arkham
Knight, Under the Red Hood, and Endgame, and
it was like, sure, I'll guest, and he became
a co -host. So now I have three co -hosts, so
us four musketeers are a great trio, we're quite
a duo. If you get that joke. We did have a fifth
Beatle, but unfortunately it was not working
out with that person, and we had to politely
cut ties. Not gonna get into it. Just it just
wasn't working But we did reboot and repackage
on a gal kiss. I did listen to the 2014 year
review Yeah, I don't really like listening to
the sound of my own voice. So I don't listen
to previous podcasts. I did the best that I could
on Episodes trying to work on them solo. I'm
really glad I have goes to play off of and to
talk with And the interviews that I worked on
with a lot of people when Kendra and Edward and
Todd were not around worked as well. Jason Youngboth
who worked on Weapon Brown, an independent comic
book dealing with Charlie Brown in a post -apocalyptic
world. I enjoyed interviewing Todd A. Davis,
of course, eventually became a co -host. We talked
to a couple of cosplayers, Night Mage and Chelsea's
Cosplay. as well as talking with many other indie
comic book artists and illustrators. We also
spoke with Kevin Conrad, who of course worked
on Spawn, which was great. Ideas were cooking
and booking. Now, as this year ends, we're close
to 3 ,000th downloads and 7 ,000 plays, which
is great. To eradicate confusion, we're in Season
2, as I've We decided best to reboot the podcast
and Kendra came up with some better ideas and
I decided, okay, Kendra, you're gonna be our
booker. Edward, you're gonna be working on a
few Facebook group pages, which we have the back
computer and Ed's video game news and reviews.
Kendra has her Facebook group page on anime and
Todd, of course, has his comic book, The Adventures
of Adam and Steve. We're taking a small break
when we come back in 2016. We have a few ideas
before March because as you know Batman vs Superman
will be coming out and we are going to be working
on The Watchmen, the book, the movie, the spin
-off comics Of course, we've got Marvel's Civil
War and Age of Apocalypse and then we have DC's
Batman vs Superman as I discussed as well as
Suicide Squad, but then this fall Because we
were stoked that Don Booth is working on a Dragon's
Lair movie, and it's gonna be hand -drawn animation.
Don Booth is back. We decided for this fall,
for November, December, we're gonna be discussing
Don Booth's films such as American Tale, Land
Before Time, Rock -A -Doodle, Titan -A -E. Don
brought up an interesting point about Christmas
and families. We decided to discuss The Godfather.
I don't know if we'll do the saga. Because, you
know, that movie and that series is huge, but
I'm sure we'll be able to find some strength.
I know that I've stated before what I want to
do with podcasting solo, but now that I have
this great group of people, I think Hunter Gal
casts this transition from a hobby to a well
-oiled machine, and it's just gonna get better
and better, especially when we go back to interviewing.
I was hoping to secure Neil Adams as I met him
at a convention. Unfortunately he's not responded
to my email so I don't want to bombard and harass
him. I do apologize for all the posts and promises
that I made on the Facebook page. Things just
happened. We did have some ideas for podcasts
but things just happened. A lot of schedule conflicts.
I now found out I'm gonna be working in a hospital.
I did have to give up writing on geekcastradio
.com for the Gotham walking dead and I was going
to write a review for the Evil Dead TV show but
because of me going back to school as a nurse
and me working as a nurse in a hospital it was
either what I had to give up and I just had to
give up you know doing some freelance writing
right now and I'm not giving up on a gal cast
not on a long shot we will be trying our best
not to announce things too quickly if things
are not on the feed it was either just I had
to take him down for a while for more room or
just schedule conflicts and there will be some
ideas that we will be bringing back and not do
this in future if that makes any sense but I
thank the fans I'm glad that we're on GeekHistory
.network I enjoy working with Mike, Steve and
I hope one day since there was a top 100 lift
I did bring up a top 100 for video games I know
what my number one is going to be. I know it's
not Batman. It's actually going to be a Mario
Brothers game. I guess from another place, from
another time. Until then, I thank my co -hosts.
I thank the fans, listeners. I thank the staff
at Geekest Radio Network. And as my voice is
going, Merry Christmas. Happy holidays. You have
filthy animals. and keep the change. Hi I'm JD
Duran and I'm Brendan Cassidy and we are in session
film and we are going to be talking about the
year in film, the year of 2015. Now, Brendan
and I are not going to be talking about our top
10 or our favorite films of the year. We are
going to be doing that in a few weeks on our
show. Right. So you can stay tuned for that,
but we can still talk about the year in film,
Brendan. And I don't know about you. I thought
it was a pretty good year as it usually is, I
think. And the one thing that has stood out to
me and we've talked about this before in our
show is that was a really strong year for female
performances, especially. There were so many
great movies with great female leads and also
supporting characters as well. I mean, of course,
the standout Charlize Theron, Amy Schumer, Jennifer
Lawrence, so many, the list goes on and on. And
you also can't even forget, and I feel like we've
forgotten this on the last few shows. But Inside
Out has some great female vocal performances
that you also can't leave out. That's a very
good point, which I feel like it was kind of...
I guess the opposite of last year because last
year was very male -centric in many ways so it's
nice to kind of see the tables turned because
and even looking back when I got to do my guest
spot with a you know with the cinema geek specifically
when we talked about with me personally on that
show we talked about the top my our top 10 favorite
actors of the half -decade so far. We even look,
I didn't do actresses, but looking back on it
and how I would have probably done it versus
actors versus actresses, I feel like it's been
more male -centric for the past couple years,
so it's very nice to see a lot of female dominance
in the acting category this year, and it has
been incredibly strong, and we've got a lot of
newcomers coming in, one of the big ones being
Alicia Vikander, who's now nominated twice this
year at the Golden Globe so far, and rightfully
so. But a lot of great examples within that as
well. It's really great to see it is great You
know another one that I particularly like and
I know you were mixed on the film But I loved
Michael Monroe from it follows I think was a
big standout sure very new to me the actresses
from tangerine oh very very Certainly make that
film. I just loved them They were fantastic and
a performance that no one is really talking about
much, but I think was very was Margot Robbie
in Z for Zachariah, a wonderful performance that
has kind of been lost in the shuffle, but very
good. And I'll still argue, people can say what
they want about the film, but Dakota Johnson
in 50 Shades of Grey was very, very good despite
the final product. Oh, yeah, I completely agree
and even if you're looking at actresses that
are still kind of at the point that they're still
very well known within this Within this time
right now, like you look at Circe Ronan in Brooklyn
who yes Well, I'm a bit more mixed on the film
than most pretty much everyone else on the planet
apparently But she is fantastic in that movie
She really shows that she is now fully growing
up into a beautiful adult actress and it really
shows in this film and then you look at someone
like Brie Larson who is one of the favorites
looking at a film like room and how definitely
coming into a room when we kind of know her for
more of the We've seen her in 21. Yeah, we saw
her we saw her in short term short term 12 and
she was great in that film absolutely ago But
man, it's great to see a lot of these actresses
that are really bringing a new form of their
A -game here, so they are not going to be typecasted
in the future. So that's really great to see
too. Yeah, absolutely. I also cannot forget Emily
Blunt in Sicario. Also one of those not getting
a lot of love, but very, very good. Don't get
me started on that. Definitely. Kerry Mulligan
had a few from this year that was really fantastic.
Kristen Stewart in Clouds of Sils Maria is one
of the best of the year regarding female performances
in my mind. Nina Haas from Phoenix. And of all
the surprises this year, I think the one that
really pulled on me the most was Amy Schumer
in Trainwreck. Just a legit performance. I honestly
hope she gets nominated at the Oscars too. I
could see it happening and it would totally be
deserved. I completely agree. And let's not forget
the fact that she also wrote that film. She did.
And maybe kind of transitioning a little bit
from that. I think this has been a great year
for just kind of joyful and fun movies in general,
whether it be comedy or just having a fun experience
at the movies as well. And I think that's a great
segue. At least when you look back on 2014 as
a specific comparable, which had a very strong
summer as far as quality, it didn't really get
a lot of attention. It had a very weak box office
performance at the same time. but I feel like
this year was a very fun experience as far as
the movies overall were concerned it was really
a competitive streak going on and you know train
wreck being the kind of movie what it is I felt
like despite what it was it added to that in
its own way it was a very it was a very you know
enjoyable time at the movies in a very surprising
film and that's another segue a lot of great
surprises overall this year that I don't think
I can say about a lot of other films as I know
this half decade so far you're right though there's
been some really great surprises there the summer
was maybe not as good as it was last year but
from a box office standpoint people were definitely
going to the movies this year Jurassic World
breaking the record before Star Wars broke it
again surprises with Jurassic I know Wow crazy
that that record was both broken twice in one
year but Fury 7 which was slightly before summer
but still killed the box office as well and then
later on in the year Star Wars it's crazy to
have another year with Star Wars coming out and
that was also a lot of fun and regarding the
scripts that you're talking about I think Star
Wars has one of the better scripts of the year
for me so yeah yeah and that's another thing
I liked as well if we're gonna keep segueing
into different topics is that when you look at
a lot of these great I guess commercial and blockbuster
films that really came out you know that were
fun and entertaining they didn't talk down to
people they really took them seriously in their
own way and I think Star Wars The Force Awakens
is a great example of that because it's a film
that is very thematically rich and you know you
look at a film like Mad Max Fury Road as well
which is a very it's a you know an epic blockbuster
film but it also took itself seriously and it's
a film that does have a lot to say underneath
as well so it's also a great year that I feel
like didn't really talk down to any of the audience
that was going to see these great films. It treated
us like we were intelligent for once. Yeah, absolutely.
And because of that, there's a very good chance
that Star Wars and Mad Max Fury Road could be
nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Absolutely.
Both big, big budget films that deserve that
recognition. And that would be a lot of fun to
see. It'd be a good change of pace, especially
from last year when we had all those Oscar baby
films that are nominated. that wasn't quite great,
but it'd be interesting. That happens every year.
That happens every year, but it'd be nice to
see a good change of pace with those two films
in that list. Last thing before we get out of
here, Brendan, is we cannot talk about 2015 and
not talk about Pixar. They had not just one,
but two movies come out this year, and one of
them is top tier. Pixar is back, baby. Yeah.
Yeah, I completely, completely agree. And a lot
of people might make the argument that, well,
The Good Dinosaur also came out this year, and
that was mediocre Pixar as well. But you have
to take into consideration the history and the
trouble that that film had. So the quality of
that film itself, knowing that history behind
it, that still shows that Pixar knows how to
manipulate and create a great film, even despite
a troubled history like that. Maybe it wasn't
a great film, but I don't think that's a great
argument to say, like, oh, Pixar still ha - had
a quote unquote, eh, kind of film this year,
but you're absolutely right about Inside Out.
Inside Out shows that they still know what they
are doing as far as leading the charge in commercial
and, you know, American animation. And taking
their story seriously, it's fun, it's heartfelt,
it's thematically rich, it says a lot, and it
takes us back to what we loved about films like
Wally and Up and Ratatouille, you know, the masterpieces
of that period, and it's absolutely there. Absolutely.
so refreshing and so exciting to see Pixar back
on that level. I love that film so much. We'll
have more to say about that. We'll have more
to say about 2015 again in a few weeks when we
do our Incession Film Awards and our top 10 films
of 2015. If you want to listen to that and more
about our show, go to InSessionFilm .com. You'll
see all the details there on how to listen to
the show, how to follow us on social media and
interact with us on a daily basis. Thanks for
listening. Thanks to Geekcast Radio. We'll see
you guys soon on the InSessionFilm podcast. These
are just the original flavor. That's exciting.
And we have two kinds of cheese dips. Joanne,
I hate to tell you this, but we're here for another
reason. What's that? Well, we were going to have
Sean's intervention, but his mom couldn't show
up. So Joanna they want us to talk about our
favorite things from 2015 what TV shows movies
music Here, I'll give you an example. Kate, what's
your favorite show that you discovered in 2015?
My favorite show that I've discovered was just
recently, as in yesterday. This is December right
now. Yes, December 2015. There's a little show
called The X -Files. Oh my god, you somehow got
a hold of the new episodes from next year? What?
The new episodes of The X -Files that are coming
out next year. There's what? No, these were like...
Like Windows DOS like computer versions of what
are you talking about? Because that sounds more
intriguing than what I'm Sean explained. Yeah,
so Kate the show you're watching is from the
early to mid 90s. Yes Not 2015. No, but it's...
But in 2015. Well, 2016. Well, yeah, yeah, technically
2016. But announced in 2015. I will be reunited
with Fox Mulder. Oh my god. What? Spoilers for
the new season. Joanna Howell will be reunited.
Joanna's in it? If I'm watching this crap and
Joanna shows up. I'm gonna realize a lifelong
dream. What was that what say you know, I like
that stuff that you saw it's like So stuff like
well, maybe that's covered supernatural you discovered
supernatural that show was on this year Why do
you join a why do you like supernatural? Because
I love anything that has to do with Sexy guys
fighting monsters. Yes. Yes ever since Ever since
the Hardy Boyz Nancy Drew mysteries with Sean
Cassidy and David Cassidy so So if Sean and I
go out and fight monsters start watching us two
sexy guys fight monsters, okay That's all I need
let's let's give it a shot Okay. Sean, there's
a monster over there. Where's Fox Molder? Wait
a minute. Where's Dean? It's getting hot in here.
I need to take my shirt off. Fox? Dean? You don't
need Sam and Dean. You have Josh and Sean. That's
a Geek Cash t -shirt right there. Now the back
says plus Kate. I think anything you do in life...
What? Kate? It is a party. I think anything you
do in life... That you can do with a hot partner
who you can call by his last name, like Mulder,
is much better. Conroy and Blair, there you go.
That's not Mulder. It's not like Mulder. No.
No, it's ethnic. Irish -British. You never saw
it coming. We sound like an 1800s detective team.
Oh my god, I've got a great idea for a show!
Well, then you need those big pipes. You could
be like a modern -day... We have to smoke before
we ever make a decision. Opium. Who killed this
man? Hold on. Kate, you could be like our handmaiden.
You could be like our handmaiden. Oh my gosh.
Like you do our sheets. We could call it like
Sweeney Josh. Sweeney Josh. You're on the back
of the t -shirt now. What was your favorite show
this year? Well, I don't know if it counts as
a new show, but a new season. It's kind of a
new show because I am a Fargo person. The first
season was amazing. Absolutely. The second season
is definitely a slow burn, but very good. So
you really have to concentrate on it. And by
the time this airs, it will have probably ended.
And I don't know if I'm going to be in with the
ending or not, but you never know. What's the
name of the show? Mine? Fargo. Oh, Fargo. Yeah,
like the movie. And there's great little references
to the movie, which are awesome. So you have
to be like a huge fan of it to catch, but it's
awesome. Um, no, I predict in the X -Files of
92 that I want and the past episode that I could
easily Wikipedia, but I'm not going to. No, don't
do it. Better girl. Better girl. Stay strong.
That, um, I predict that there's truth and they're
going to look for it. It gets crazy when Sam
from Quantileap leaps into Mulder for the whole
season. Oh man. Oh, we hit a spark with Joanna.
No, I'm trying to find a book that I want to
talk about. Oh no, smart people. Geek cast radio,
not nerd cast radio. They wouldn't take us. No,
it's about when Teddy Roosevelt was on the police
force in New York. Who told me about this? Did
you tell me about this? just now but there's
this great story it was like the the alienist
it was the first time they did profiling of a
killer of a serial killer and it's like one of
the first times that they did it you know kind
of how that developed and Roosevelt was in the
story because he was one of the police officers
in it and it was awesome it's a great book I
didn't know that was a thing. And my phone just
died. Listeners, that's your book pick of 2015.
Even though it's not older than that. They don't
know. It's new to them. Okay. If it's on Amazon
and it comes to your house and no one's ever
read it before, it's new. It's new. Unless you
buy it used. Then it's not new. But it's new
to you. And that's news you can use. Yep. Right.
My favorite TV show? Daredevil. Kate, you should
watch it. It's a heartwarming story about a blind
man. Can I tell you, we watched, I think, roundabouts
the first three minutes, and then I went, nah.
And then we found X -Files. And you wonder why
you're on the back of the t -shirt for Geek Cat
Radio Network. Oh, sorry, guys. Tell them how
much you love Daredevil. Jennifer Garner was
great. Oh, my god. What did it do? Is that bad
or good? Oh, my god. I can't tell sometimes if
it's a good look or a bad one. What do you think
go with your guy probably bad does it offend
you cuz he's blind the same blind people shouldn't
have TV shows take a stand team I Am pro vision
impaired individuals having television programs
with Jennifer Garner That's Jennifer See, I like
Jennifer Lawrence. Jennifer Lawrence is cool.
This is pro -Jennifer Lawrence, anti -Jennifer
Lawrence. Why are we against Jennifer? Because
she left Ben. What did Ben do? Become Batman.
What about Jennifer Tilly? Why doesn't anyone
talk about her? Jennifer Tilly. It's not Jennifer
Aniston. She needs a new show. She needs something.
I could make such a joke right now. We are explicit
on iTunes, but I don't know if this show we're
guessing on is explicit on iTunes. I said it
and they went, no, come back. Can't take it back.
Can't take it with you either. Yeah, some of
the things you can't take back and take with
you. Kate, what's your new year's resolution
this year? I want to drink more water. And then
turn into wine? Yeah. Nice. Gonna be Jesus. I'm
just gonna drink the wine. She's drinking the
wine. She's on the record, she's just gonna drink
the wine. Sean? For a transformation. I'm doing
what everybody else does, try to go to the gym,
see if I can get it to last till March, and go
from there. Yeah. What's your resolution? Yeah,
what's your resolution? To put more pressure
on Sean for him to make me go to the gym with
him. That's what you can do to Mike. I will give
you $10 if you go into the gym. If you give me
$10 every time I go to the gym. Wait, stop it.
Stop. Stop. I am a man that enjoys a good proposition.
I am all ears. Not every time you go to the gym.
You two walk to the gym with your workout clothes
and blast the My Two Dads theme song. And get
a video of that. $10. I will not even let Josh
answer. Challenge accepted. All right. I need
a video. We want a little selfie stick. Lovely
or or let's up the any you go with us. Yeah Can
I be the girl? Expect new video content from
smearing next year live breaking news Joanna
will be back on an episode. Yeah, we talked about
for so long, but Kate's been busy watching Mulder
It's true so do I He had that sex addiction for
like ten years. Oh, you know what? I am sad about
that. You know, because I love Fox Mulder so
much, but the fact that David Duchovny... But
David Duchovny had one, not Fox Mulder. Right,
no. Josh, can I tell you there's a thing called
characters? What? Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, you just
blew his mind. Why did you do that? Never mind,
I take it back. Are you insane? Don't ever watch
the series called California. No, because that's
about the sex. Yes. About the sex? Yeah. Oh my
god, I got this great new segment for next year.
Kate's California Cation Corner. No. She talks.
All with K's. All with K's. We're Smear Ding's
little guest spot. Congrats to the people at
Geek Cast Radio for another fantastic year. I'm
Josh. As always, Sean. I'm Kate. Joanna. Happy
New Year, guys. Holler. All with K's. Sounds
like Smear Ding, Connick Outkast, and In Session
Film all had great years this year. We are back,
and as I said, we got one email from superfan
Tim Silvers. People will most remember him from
the GCRN Wars episode, Thundercats vs. Silverhawks,
and he was on the second half of Mass Mayhem
with me. I've got a few plans for Tim in the
future, depending on scheduling, but why don't
you take it away with what Tim had to say about
his favorite moments of GCRN in 2015? He says,
hi, my favorite moments? include the top 100
TV shows. I love the top 100s including the previous
top 100 animated list. This time I was fortunate
to be a contributor overall. I thought it was
a good list and the discussions were a lot more
fun on the record as well as the fan discussions
on the website. The return of Powers of Grayskull
podcast, Kevin and Mike are an awesome pairing.
The He -Man series review was a lot of fun. She
-Ra wasn't a show I watched growing up so I was
eager to dive into the series and see how it
compares to Key Man. He also goes on to say,
remote control. I always look forward to the
fall preview discussions that let me know what
shows to watch out for in the fall. Plus, I like
hearing about the finales and show summaries
and thoughts. I enjoyed the Daredevil series
on Netflix this year and the discussion on the
podcast. Altered Geek. It has become one of my
favorite weekly podcasts. Steve sometimes goes
solo, which I don't mind. But bring in other
guests like BoothNinja, Mike, or others and you
get fun discussions of varying degrees on topics
of lawnmowers, tech, movies, games, et cetera.
And it's like sitting around with your buddies
having a great time being geeks. Wait a minute,
wait a minute. Who the hell was talking about
lawnmowers? It was me in Powers One episode.
Oh, OK. I'm talking about lawnmowers. It was
great. OK. And then it goes on to... He goes
on to say that Tooncast Beyond, Tooncast was
what got me hooked on GCRN. I jumped on board
around episode 70 something and went back to
listen to all the previous shows. I've also listened
to Off the Cuff and Talking in Circles, which
are entertaining as well. Thanks for a great
2015. I look forward to the coming year and a
great GCRN content. Tim. Sadly Off the Cuff decided
to retire their show this year, but I have plans
to incorporate them into a new show that Steve
and I are going to be doing in 2016. We have
plans! Yes, Waspinator, we have plans. Waspinator
says plans are good! All right, so 2016, new
podcasts that will be coming. You want to take
the first two since they're yours? Yeah. I'm
going to do the side of Dragon Ball. That show
is going to be about Dragon Ball Z. It's, oddly
enough, it's named after one of my old websites
of Dragon Ball. And what the idea for that show
is is... Instead of going through and doing seasons
season runs or doing Every few you know every
episode we do five episodes or something like
that. We're gonna go by saga So like you'll have
the Saiyan saga the Vegeta saga the Namek saga
You know and so on until you know it goes through
GT will not be covered Dragon Ball will not be
covered initially It's just gonna be Dragon Ball
Z or possibly Dragon Ball Z And then Dragon Ball
Super, once that starts airing. And then also
the Dragon Ball Z films. All 15 of them, I believe.
Good luck with that. I like them. I used to be
a huge Dragon Ball Z fan back in the day. There's
that. Rebooting mainframe, the concept for that
still applies, just waiting to, it's more so
been issues with my timing, so I'm hoping that
that gets to come to fruition this year with
a new reboot of Reboot coming. So yeah, I'm hoping
that that comes to play this year. Take it away.
All right, so I've got three shows I've got two
shows coming they're gonna be One's gonna be
myself and Steve the other is gonna be myself
and Michael Wilson And the third show is gonna
be Steve and I along with a bunch of other people
as well Maybe we'll play preview of the pot art
in the episode post it depends maybe we'll be
nice I don't know just yet. Maybe we'll just
say you have to wait. One of them still needs
pot art made, so. Which one? But anyway, Pauka.
So these three shows, one of them is going to
be kind of a limited engagement because I know
how Steve's brain works and I know going through
a set. Steve gets burnt out grid E. Yeah. It's
going to be a limited engagement kind of thing.
We're going to produce 10 episodes of the show.
We're going to take 10 weeks, produce 10 episodes.
We're going to then release those over a period
of time. And then we're going to take that time
and take a break and work on other things next
year. So it's going to be a sporadic kind of
release. It's not going to be a strict weekly.
It's not going to be a strict biweekly or monthly.
It's going to be whenever we get them done and
produced and edited and online, that's when they're
going to happen. Actually comes out of the top
100 TV shows countdown And it comes out of number
50 on that on that series actually One of the
listeners scanner 51 on Twitter actually already
guessed it We are going to be doing a show called
Podcasters Meet World. It's going to be a Boy
Meets World and Girl Meets World review podcast.
Instead of having to worry about dealing with
how to cover Boy Meets World in telecast or remote
control, I said, screw it, Steve and I are just
gonna create a whole new podcast and we're just
gonna be a Boy Meets World, Girl Meets World
podcast. I've worked, it took me... Four and
a half hours one afternoon to work out the schedule
to get through all seven seasons of boy meets
world It's gonna take us 70 podcast episodes
And the way I've set this up and the way Steve
and I are gonna run it is as I said We're gonna
record for ten weeks We're gonna take time to
edit each episode and then release them sporadically
that way we can take The next ten weeks or the
next two or three months off you guys have content
still while we're on, basically while we're off
and not producing the show, the content will
be released. So you'll have season one, which
is episode one through episode 10 of the podcast
and so on and so forth. We're gonna review every
single episode of Boy Meets World and Girl Meets
World. Girl Meets World's second season just
wrapped recently. Season three is coming. I don't
know exactly when, but I do know it's coming.
So that's gonna be awesome and that's gonna be
really, really interesting. As I mentioned earlier,
Off the Cuff did retire this year. I have been
planning, and I don't talk about certain things
a lot of times, I don't know, it's just - Because
we always have plans. Well, I always have plans
and I've been planning, and I'll say this right
now, I still have plans to do the Two Transformers
podcast, Transformers, Primetime, and TFG2, but
I'm just not mentally ready. There will be plenty
of room for Mike, Art, Joe, and Shaunzy to come
on this new show. I had actually plotted out
this show about four years ago as of this recording,
2011 or so. Back then it was called GCR and Gamers
and Steve has always had his video game name
of Extreme Retro Gaming. Extreme Retro Gaming
is coming back, it's going to be all new, except
it's not an X, it's an ERG, it's ERG. My original
idea is - Hear the frustration. Yeah, ERG. uh...
uh... my original ideas from when i came up with
uh... gc and gamers are going to be incorporated
basically i've got the schedule here and i'll
just i'll just tell you folks really quickly
uh... steve is going to be handling video game
news episodes every two weeks He's also gonna
do something special on Saturdays the rest of
the episodes for the most part I'll be handling
with with him as co -host if he wants to be on
the topics, but we're gonna do topics like We're
gonna do a game system spotlight and take you
through the history of video games system by
system in the later episodes we have Like we
have the dawn of mainstream gaming episode 30
to 35 where we're gonna talk about like Pac -Man
and pitfall and Donkey Kong and punch -out and
that kind of thing we're gonna talk about mascots
like Alex Kidd and Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash
Bandicoot and Star Fox and Kirby and all that
kind of stuff So this is going to be fun. It's
going to be able to allow GCRN to have a video
game podcast again. And it's going to be something
Steve and I both will be working on. Anything
you want to say about ERG? No, nothing that you
haven't already mentioned. OK. The fourth. uh...
podcast uh... early well actually fifth and final
podcast will be a second review podcast for twenty
sixteen this one will also be done a lot of pre
-production and then released uh... michael wilson
is going to be returning to the network and we're
going to be doing a face infer but review podcast
uh... this one is called polka podcast organization
without a cool acronym now the reason why it's
called that is because if anyone is that's listening
to this is watch face infer you'll know the agency
that agent p a k period platypus uh... works
for is called alka organization without cool
acronyms i had to work podcast uh... in in there
somewhere uh... so that's gonna be extremely
fun uh... for for michael wilson and i to do
uh... we will also have this is not new stuff
uh... but we also have and wires road to episode
one hundred and fifty Once we get to 150, we're
gonna take some time off and put the show on
hiatus. I have a plan for when the show comes
back that we're gonna do double features by year
starting with the 80s. So just to give everybody
a little preview here, how this is going to work
is, okay, so episode, all right. Episode 145,
for example, of MWIRE is gonna be our Fast and
the Furious franchise discussion, okay? Episode
147 to 149 are gonna be our Back to the Future
one, two, and three commentaries. Episode 150
is gonna be seven years, because we're actually
gonna, hopefully we can get all these recorded
before July of next year. Episode 150 is gonna
be seven years of movies. an overall discussion
on the podcast history, talking about some of
our favorite episodes that we did. At the end,
we will tease NWIRE's eventual return. So as
I said, we're gonna do double features. So episode
151 will be two films from 1980. Episode 152
will be two films. Basically, it's four films
in one month from one year in the past. So like
say... Because I know you'll be more interested
in these like say when we get to the episode
170 is where we get to the 90s of M wire so Episode
170 is gonna be weekend at Bernie's one and two
Episode 171 is gonna be kindergarten cop and
Dick Tracy Episode 173 curly sue and drop dead
Fred from 1991 Episode 175 is gonna be a special
episode where we talk about good fellas You know
so you get the point now these double features
do not necessarily mean that Steve and I are
gonna do both episodes It's probably gonna be
me on both, but it might not like Let's see Okay,
take take it take episode 171 for example, we're
gonna do kindergarten cop and Dick Tracy I don't
know how much of an interest you have in Dick
Tracy. Zero. Okay, so Steve might be on the Kindergarten
Cop review. Steve will be on Kindergarten Cop.
Not Kindergarten Cop 2. You know what? No. You
know what I mean though. So Steve will be on
half of the episode when I'll get somebody else
for the other half for the other movie. So it's
gonna lead M -Wire to have more of a voice and
more voices to come in. So it's gonna be pretty
awesome. The eventual goal for MWIRE is to get
it to 200 episodes, not just next year because
they said 150 will take some breath. MWIRE is
going to go on for a while, folks, but the way
it's going to work after 150, it's going to be
a lot more interesting because you're going to
have a lot more voices on the show. Tooncast
Beyond is going to come back in full force. I
already have the first well, the next five episodes
or so planned out. Episode 63 will start off
in the new year with Steve and I reviewing the
first season of the 2003 TMNT cartoon. Episode
64 will be myself and someone else doing, for
the first time ever on the GCRN, we will have
My Little Pony coverage. We're gonna review My
Little Pony Friendship is Magic Season 1. not
sure who the coast is going to be on that episode
65 my girl jen and i are going to do inside out
episode 66 steve and i are going to talk about
star wars cartoon parodies episode 67 jen's going
to come back and do inside out with me and then
after that who knows so that's what's going on
with m wire and tune cast beyond as i already
said powers of greyskull will continue with our
she were reviews and all that good stuff i'm
sure you've got plenty of stuff coming up with
altered geek What other, something about new
podcast voting, you want to tell people about
that? Well, this is only going to affect one
particular thing. We're going to have another
Top 100 this year. We're going to have two GCR
and wars, one run by myself, one run by Optimus
Solo. Originally, we're going to be two Top 100s.
But since talking about it, we kind of decided
against that. And this one would be too much
to gather. But we're going to start off the year
with the GCR in awards, of course, as usual.
First full week of January, we're going to have
the voting pop -up on the site where you get
to make your nominations, as per usual the last
two years we did this. And then after three weeks,
I'm going to close that and then get the top
fives of each category together for voting. And
then once those are done, we'll record a podcast
and have the printed results afterward of how
everything ranked. And again, that's completely
like fan voted. There's nothing that has to do
with us whatsoever. Right. So it's always kind
of fun to see what pops up and what doesn't Following
that the awards will be a G sarin wars, which
I'm going to do the top I Think it was the it's
gonna be the 90s 90s villains tournament. I've
had this planned out for three years uh... ways
to tell me that you all should be really shocked
because i'm the one that plans shit steve doesn't
plan a lot of stuff. Steve plans shit if he wants
to do it bad enough. That's how it works. No,
after we did the top the top uh... you know the
eighties villains uh... and this is animated
just to let everyone know this is animated after
we did the eighties villains tournament uh...
i was like i want to do the nineties uh... because
Reasons here 90s. Um, yeah. Well, I was an 80s
and 90s kid So like both of them resonate with
me, but I was like a mid to late 80s kid Yeah
and then all 90s pretty much so it's gonna resonate
with me a little bit more but uh So yeah, that's
that's what's gonna come up and then we're gonna
do the top 50 countdown Which is the debut of
this particular event? It will run, you know
half the time of the top 100 the catch there
is there will be two sets of lists this one will
be voted completely different than any other
thing on the site this is going to have a staff
vote and a listener vote interesting a fan vote
so what what it will account to is it's going
to be the top 50 video game franchise countdown
And I didn't franchise because if you're gonna
do video games you're gonna end up with like
three alos You're gonna end up with like two
Arkham's you're gonna end up with you know three
battlefields And it just didn't make any damn
sense Yeah, so we're going to weigh them based
on the merit of the entire franchise as a whole
even if there is like a turd in the entire franchise
somewhere or a couple of them in that franchise
it's gonna be based on the overall or the strength
of some of the stronger ones in there. And it's
OK if you mention some of those in there, but
if you vote for one of them, it's going to be
automatically for that franchise. So there's
no need to put Halo 3 or Halo 4 or Battlefield
3 or 4 or whatever, because either way, you're
voting for that franchise. That just makes it
easier because of the vast amount of video games
there are and trying to pinpoint what console
and whatever. It just makes it easier. So anyways,
there's going to be a fan vote that is completely
fan driven. And then there's going to be the
staff vote. And the staff vote is going to be
all internal anyway. And it's going to more or
less be based on basically how we do a top 100
of it. It's just going to, when we're recording
it though, it's going to take place with the
listener rankings, not the staff rankings. and
then we'll tell where our ranking listed compared
to where things fell on the listener one. It
sounds more complicated than it needs to be,
but anyways, it's gonna be completely driven
by you, the fans, and not us, so we'll play the
backseat on this one more or less. I'm actually
kind of curious to see what comes up because
some of us are gamers. Some of us are more so
than others and some of us, you know, are more,
you know, we have our set games and that's it.
And which is fine. But again, it's it'll be nice
to have that nice mixture of everybody's input
on that. And I'm not going to reveal what the
top 100 is going to be. That's no that's going
to be fun to find out later. And then there'll
be another GCR on Wars towards the end of the
year, too, which I'm not going to say anything
about. So there'll be some hidden content towards
the end of the year. There will be monthly spotlights
based on certain events or films that come out
in certain months, so be sure to look for those.
But yeah, that's pretty much all that's going
to be out this year. There's going to be a lot
of new stuff, a lot of new features, a lot of
new fun stuff to get on. If you guys have any
suggestions for stuff you'd like to see on the
website or... done in the shows in general or
specific shows or whatever, please feel free
to just let us know either through the social
media or through feedback at geekcastradio .com,
always open for suggestions. I know this is a
very long episode to listen through, so just
let us know. Yep, absolutely. For the pull okay,
so I'll give people a little bit of a hint for
the pull bag I meant to do it earlier when I
was talking about my own two cast beyond but
the pull bag starting in January We're gonna
have several episodes We're gonna have giant
size episode 122 123 which is gonna be Batman
Beyond the 2015 Series by Dan Juergens and Bernard
Chang we're gonna do this first six issues of
that We're going to do Angry Birds Transformers.
We're going to do the new James Bond 007 comic.
We're going to do D4VE, the original series,
and D4VE number two. Joe Reed and I will come
back and do TMNT issues 51 and 52. And then,
as I said earlier, with Tooncast Classic, with
Tooncast Beyond, doing My Little Pony Friendship
is Magic season one. The pull bag for the first
time ever will get into IDW's my little pony
comics We're gonna do ponytails volume one and
volume two is two episodes. We're gonna do the
fiend ship is magic Trade paperback, which is
a spotlight on all the villains and then we're
gonna do friendship is magic volumes and friends
forever volumes one and two one two trades one
podcast, so That's what's what's going on with
the pull bag for the first part of the year We've
got so much other stuff coming for the pull bag
as well For geek cast radio the podcast specifically.
I just had this idea today before we started
recording I just told Steve about it. I haven't
really had a chance to write anything down about
it It's just a an idea that's in my head Starting
next year at some point. I don't know when Hopefully
before our seventh anniversary on June 1st. I
want to do nine podcasts episode 91 to 99 Where
it'll be the top? Favorite will most like least
liked whatever it's basically gonna be a numbered
list of nine things from the 90s So each episode
will be nine different things that we either
liked didn't like or remember from the decade
of the 90s So that's gonna be the next nine episodes
of the GCR podcast may have mics We do have some
stuff coming up. We kind of got burnt out here
at the end of the year with WWE because they're
just not, it's just gone downhill folks. But
Mike and I, along with Ryan the Uneven Flo Merkley,
we will be back next year doing some sort of
WWE reviews or content with Mayhem Mikes. I think
