About this Episode

Mike and Steve reflect on their Christmas memories growing up and how the holiday has changed now that they're parents. They discuss childhood gifts ranging from action figures to electronics, favorite Christmas movies and specials, decorating traditions, and how experiencing Christmas through their kids' eyes has reignited their own spirit for the season. The conversation touches on everything from Star Wars toy availability to eggnog and Christmas Vacation rewatches.

You look very festive. Happy holidays. What?

Happy holidays? You know I've been wanting to

say this for a couple years now. Screw you. It's

Merry Christmas. A new holiday was born. A festivus

for the rest of us. Hello and welcome to GeekCast

Radio. This is episode 89. I am one of your hosts,

TFG1Mike. Joining me is Steve Megatron. Hello.

Hello. How are you? I'm alive. Star Trek Beyond

the force awakens came out and we had some count.

I'm sorry whoops wrong franchise Hey, the force

awakens was freaking gold and if people buy it

they can go to hell It's I guess I'm going to

hell it's probably the best Sci -fi film that's

come out in a long time Forget who it was somebody

on my Facebook went ahead and ranked there the

way that they see the best to the worst of the

films and They put the Phantom Menace above a

new hope and I'm like why Because they grew up

in the late 90s classic trilogy are like the

Like holy grail of the rest of the franchise

Yeah So enough about that we're done with Star

Wars here for a while folks. I'm just on Star

Wars overload There's and I know it it's because

the movie came out and all these toys and comics

toys They haven't even come up with any damn

toys yet They've only had the first wave I haven't

seen like old man Luke or old lady Leia or like

old man Han I'm not sure if I want to see Like

they haven't had any idea like they've got the

damn droids which you whoopity -doo They sell

those every time and then they got Chewbacca,

but they and then they get all the new cast which

don't get me wrong They're cool. I you know,

I'm still very interested but right the Geek

in me that calls back to the original trilogy.

I want the figures of the old Cast the old yeah,

I do like the new cast don't be wrong. I and

I have been seeing that they've been Disney's

pulled another moment because They're doing what

they did with black widow now with Ray and Captain

Fassman And it's like Just because they're a

female character does not mean that they're not

going to sell maybe if they actually, you know

Marketed them I mean cuz like I can't understand

how they sell the rest of them is like, you know

a stormtrooper gets precedence over a main character

like Ray because she's like She's the Luke Skywalker

of this franchise like this trilogy There is

no like whether she's a Skywalker or not because

it doesn't say one way or the other That's not

really a spoiler. It's just that her name's Rey.

There's nothing else There there this is the

center focal point of this whole trilogy now

and to not have her figures and injustice so

like I I totally get behind why everybody's like

flipping a lid on this because for whatever reason

Disney and Hasbro are like Totally missing the

boat. Yeah Well has Hasbro misses the ball and

it's not even I don't think I don't think it's

totally Hasbro I think it's the the toy stores

I think it's like Walmart and in your toys or

us and all these shops that are screwing it left

and right and then I think Disney is just like

hey They don't sell very well because well, maybe

because the stores don't order enough or that

maybe they don't order any So earlier Earlier

this week, you know, you mentioned the toys and

all as I ever keep seeing outside of the some

of the action figures I keep seeing the the iPhone

enabled Android enabled BB8 thing buddy of mine

on Facebook Jason Enright who is Interviewed

him along with his wife Margaret Scott's on the

pullback. He posted something earlier this week

and says I had the sweet little old lady come

in and ask me if I had the Star War B -Ball 88.

I showed it to her and she asked the price when

I said $149 .99 she asked what does it do? Started

explaining about the app enabled droid for your

iPad or smartphone and she said I don't know

what half of those words mean but you seem very

excited about it and my grandkids love the Star

Wars so I will by its by the way do you have

more and he went short more but it's like for

the life of me i'd just don't understand the

way anyone wants i can understand the lightsaber

is you can have lightsaber battles your friends

you didn't but you can save your friends you

can and that's it for your friends uh... that

i heard You're not making the castle run in 12

parsecs if you say we're your friends. Is that

the Millennium Falcon that did it in 14 parsecs?

12. Oh god. So we are recording this a couple

of days before Christmas. It will actually probably

go up on Christmas and we wanted to for years

honestly for the last seven years we've tried

to do this and it hasn't really been we've actually

tried to make this come to life but we've tried

to do this gcr and christmas party thing but

it's never actually fucking happened like the

idea has gotten so mutated i mean we've thrown

so many vials of clues at the damn thing we have

no idea what the hell the original idea was even

going to be at this point so drunken pirates

Yeah, I figured Steve and I can come on for episode

89 because we weren't gonna do another Star Wars

countdown since episode 7 is already out. Oh

God, the top five spoilers of The Force Awakens,

no. No, it is like, everybody's doing spoilers

now. First up on the spoiler list? No, I'm just

playing. probably going to do something else

with that concept. So what we're going to do

tonight is we're going to talk about some of

our Christmas traditions as kids, some of the

Christmas traditions now as adults, or if we

don't have any at all. And I think it's only

fitting that we take a very small break and insert

a few Christmas favorites. We'll be back after

this. earth -shattering kaboom every who down

in Whoville liked Christmas a lot but the Grinch

who lived just north of Whoville did not the

Grinch hated Christmas the whole Christmas season

please don't ask why no one quite knows the reason

The exact exchange and nuance of phrase in this

ritual is very important. Now, it was serious.

A double dog dare. What else was left but a triple

dare you. And finally, the coup de grace of all

dares. The sinister triple dog dare. Schwartz

created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping

the triple dare and going right for the throat

Flicks spine stiffened his lips curled in a defiant

sneer. There was no going back now so Christmas

traditions for the longest time when I was a

kid we always had a real tree really and then

one year we no longer had a real tree we had

a fake like I think for Christmas as I can remember

we 86 and 87 we had a real tree 88 to 92 or 93

Yeah, 92, because 92 was the New Year's. New

Year's in the 93 where everything in my life

exploded, much like the Death Star. But yeah,

no, 86, 87, I remember us having a real tree

because we, I don't know, we just had a real

tree. And after that point, my mom, I guess,

got tired of going out and getting a real one,

so she just went and bought this extremely tall

fake one. had it for years and years and years

um i remember i think i think it was christmas

of 87 i had um robin pajamas i didn't get them

for christmas but i had them uh based off of

the uh they they were legged but they're based

off the 66 uh robin Costume as far as the red

are and all that stuff and I wore those almost

every Christmas as a kid Yeah, I don't know why

You know, we we always used to listen to Christmas

music we would always end up either at my grandmother's

or there was always one person in the family

at either Thanksgiving or Christmas that would

put on the meal so whoever did it at Thanksgiving

somebody else would do it at Christmas and That

kind of thing What about you? What are some of

your traditions? My family for instance always

goes to somebody's house primarily my mom's to

eat and to Everybody piss and moan for an hour

It's and I say that lovingly because like everybody

like it's it's usually the same bad gags that

come on all the time Yeah But anyways, so yeah,

that's We usually we sit there and we we all

get together we we have a nice nice big feast

like they're usually you know Like these one

year we had gargantuan rolls because my grandpa

complained that my mom didn't make these rolls

big enough they were like She's like he's like

these are made for like a two -year -old and

so like the next year my mom made one the size

of a plate And gave it to him And it was his

specifically, and then he just started laughing.

That's the kind of stuff like if you say something

one year, it might come back to bite you in the

ass the next year, which is the funny part. But

so, yeah, there's there's that. But I mean, overall,

like we've most of my holidays anymore, at least

in the last 10 years, have been jumping houses.

It's been either going between like my in -laws,

which is They usually do their Christmas on Christmas

Eve. So for the last 11, 12 years it's been like

that. And then my dad's usually on Christmas,

we usually go there late in the afternoon, my

mom's is early in the afternoon on Christmas,

and then usually our Christmas is in the early

morning. Now with having kids, it's totally different

dynamic. Yeah, yes it is. I remember all the

stories about Santa and everything else and you

know go to sleep so Santa will come and and all

this stuff and usually because Mean let's not

get disillusioned here people your parents were

Santa Claus. I'm not saying the guy doesn't exist.

I'm not I'm just saying Oh, please come on now

Of course but no, but it's one of those things

for me where because I don't I don't I don't

know if this is like for you because I've said

this on many of the podcasts recently that I've

done, growing up in Massachusetts, it's a special

kind of cultured life where everybody's up early

because most of the people that are in that state

are either farmers or they're fishermen or they're

policemen or firemen or construction workers

and carpentry and all that stuff and most of

them... Like most of my family, my grandfather,

my three of my uncles were all in carpentry and

construction and whatever else. So they're always

up five a .m. My grandfather, I remember every,

even at Christmas, five a .m. on the dot, he'd

be down in the kitchen getting his coffee, whether

he's going to work or not. So for me, you know,

I would go to sleep. Let's see, between the time

I was 7 to 10, anywhere between 730 and 930 at

night, and I would sleep until, for Christmas

even, a Christmas day specifically, I would probably

sleep till 435 o 'clock in the morning, and I'm

like, oh, okay, cool, it's after midnight, Santa's

probably already come, everything else, run downstairs,

there's like a million different presents, the

stocking is full. And all that it's like yeah,

but you got to wait till your mom's up Really

come on. I Remember one year. I think this is

either 86 or 87. I forget I forget what year

it is, but I remember the thing my mom threw

a This is the only time you'll ever hear me say

anything about a New York sports team and the

positive people. When I was a kid, I was a very

naive kid. I didn't really know or understand

quite yet what it meant to be a die -hard Red

Sox fan. So at the time, only because of the

colors and because of some of the players that

were on the team, I liked the New York Mets as

a six -year -old for a little while. So I wanted

a New York Mets hat and just, my mom just put

it on the tree. She didn't even wrap it. So...

430 a .m. That Chris 435 o 'clock in the morning

and you know it wasn't that I wasn't gonna wake

my mom or anything else like that cuz like I

said we're all a bunch of morning people we're

all a bunch of people that got up early so even

if I was down there at 435 o 'clock in the morning

by 6 o 'clock my mom was up and making coffee

or tea or hot chocolate or whatever but you know

Christmas with the With the immediate family

was always you know like me and my mom was always

that was always first Then we would go out and

and you know like you said go go house hopping

So many places to visit so little time yeah,

and Like I can remember all the way back to being

when I was a kid What I got for Christmas for

instance every year. Oh Really? Yeah, well, it's

I've got a photographic memory with crap. That

doesn't matter When it comes to stuff that I

should remember I don't So like you could say

my long -term memory is a lot better in my short

term So When I was like for instance five I got

crank that robot body the huge crank right Like

when I six I got like Cobra commander and Destro

and snake eyes like the 12 inch figures And I've

gotten like Batman stuff and Ninja Turtles stuff

sprinkled throughout there like when I was I

believe for I got the Ninja Turtles No when I

was four I got the the Batcave and the Batmobile

I got like 89 Batman stuff Yeah, when I was five

I got like the Ninja Turtles sewer Mm -hmm I

had like the I had everything like I had the

entire the entire line throughout the span of

my five -year -old year and It kind of went like

every year was a different theme for the most

part like I went to Star Trek eventually I went

back to Batman I went back to Turtles I went

and I kind of fluctuated between all of those

things and then eventually I started getting

to the point where I got Electronics like I got

a Walkman and I got you know back when they were

a cassette tape Then I got a boom box which Funny

enough I still have It's it's it's a What brand

it is I can't remember what brand JVC Sony it's

one of those two, but it's audio box It's one

of those two though, and it's it's silver. I

want to say it's Sony. It's got to be Sony but

it's it's still perfect condition, nothing wrong

with it, antenna's still good, everything's still

good. It came with a wireless remote. Oh wow.

Still have that too. You don't see those a lot

nowadays unless you get an iPad or an iPhone

or unless you spend thousands and thousands of

dollars on a Bose system. Well the funny thing

is this is just a hundred dollar thing back in

the day. Yeah. But it's still held up which is

why I keep it. I don't have cassettes, so like

that's moot point. The CDs is kind of, I don't

really listen to CDs for the most part. I mean,

we use it for the radio primarily, or like when

we go to the drive in, we'll take it with us,

put batteries in it and whatnot. And we've had

other CD player, like little miniature boom boxes,

but none of them have lasted. This is the only

one that's got like the staying power. And the

wireless remote was one of those things that

when I was a kid, came in handy because I got

an infrared headset one year for Christmas. You

can almost see where this is going. The infrared,

now mind you, my bed is facing a certain direction

in my room when I was growing up and I had like

a 10 by 10 room. Not very big. And my boombox

was on my shelf. And the infrared was also on

that shelf, like the receiver for it. The thing

that sucked about it was because it was the opposite

direction of my bed, I had a hard time hiding

it when I wanted to listen to the radio or listen

to my CD player when I was supposed to be sleeping.

So I had a fish tank in my room that I had fish

for and I would use that as the reflection bounce

-off point. Oh For the for the infrared And if

I put it like if I if I put it just right I could

get perfect signal no static But then also I

could use it for my remote to shut everything

off Which was a beautiful tool to have as a preteen

there so because then if they walked in my room

to see if I was awake because I didn't use a

noisemaker or anything obviously because I was

older but it's so they could hear under the door

if the radio was on because I was cranked it

up on my headphones which is probably why I'm

partially deaf so yeah like I used to do that

with that but I mean I used to have a lot of

a lot of stuff and I eventually started getting

like Beast Wars figures and items to that Capacity

which I have nothing of anymore Yeah, but uh,

but yeah, I mean I used to there used to be a

lot of stuff I got as a kid that I mean I have

cranes still but that's I think the only remedy

Yeah for me I I had See unlike you I don't remember

every single gift I ever got I Don't know if

I already had this if I got it when I was young

I must have been like a Christmas when I was

really young because I know obviously came out

in 82 but I had Castle Grayskull and I had Castle

Grayskull up until about four years ago Sadly

the building I was living in got infested and

the castle got infested and there was no saving

it sadly, but my mom God my mom she lugged that

thing around everywhere. She moved because by

this I Moved here to Kentucky when I was 13 with

my dad and a whole other bunch of crap happened

and I ended up through state's care till I was

till I graduated high school and whatever else

so my you know most of my stuff most of my kids

stuff just stayed with my mom and she just lugged

around wherever you know she moved to Florida

in 94 she Back to Massachusetts at one point

or another and Blah blah blah blah, but I remember

Any toys any it didn't matter if it was he man

toys or not any toys that I ever got for birthdays

or Christmases They always ended up in front

of Castle Grayskull for some odd reason I just

absolutely loved that old castle. It was so awesome.

I remember one year My mom I'm pretty sure that

all parents do this My mom used to take me like

I don't know right after then not on Black Friday,

but like Because because I'm sorry folks obviously

back in the 80s and 90s. You didn't have cyber

Monday So, you know, well, no there was no internet

until like 96 that anybody I know I know I know

but that's what I'm saying Black Friday has always

been a thing though. Cyber Monday was a thing

of it's a thing of this generation. But anyway

It was like the Monday after Black Friday or

the Sunday after Black Friday She would always

take me and into toy stores and wherever else

and she would basically tell me okay tell us

what you want and You know Santa will pick one

or two things and that's what you get for that

Christmas and I remember one year It was Christmas

of 89 Wanted that 89 batmobile so bad The problem

was was I threw a temper tantrum in the mall

that day and my mom because she was gonna actually

Buy it the day it came out from me for Christmas

Of course, which means I don't remember when

I know the movie came out in June of an 89 So

I'm not sure when the actual toy would have come

out but it was one of those things where she

would have had to have bought it and then waited

until Christmas. I eventually did get it. Oh

man, that was one toy car that I absolutely dug.

It had the separate really cheap, flimsy canopy

thing to mimic the movie, but no, man, I loved

that car. That car was so awesome. I got a Sega

Master System one year. I don't know why I didn't

pick Nintendo but Figured whatever I never had

a Genesis. I've played Genesis and obviously

I've played Sonic and I've played You know other

Genesis games, but I never had a Genesis. I went

I went with the good company at the time I went

with Nintendo for the suit Christmas at 92 I

sat there and played Super Mario World for six

and a half hours straight Only time I got up

was to go to the bathroom once Once Christmas

vacation came out on video and yes people I do

mean video as in video cassette We would watch

that every year And every year I'm just waiting

for my mom to pull out the reindeer glasses we

used to drink eggnog all the time the unspiked

version obviously since I was a kid but it's

just one of those things where you know you got

you got eggnog you got Christmas vacation you

got presents and hilarity ensues so what being

a parent now how have the Christmas has been

as a parent You know it's it's gotten kind of

different only in the sense that I Actually care

about it now and I don't mean to sound like a

dick when I say that because like I There there

comes a point when you get older. You're just

like I really don't care about this holiday anymore

And To experience it again with my kids It makes

a difference like it's totally totally different

dynamic and When you get to see their faces like

this will be the first year for Nolan So like

this will be really interesting He he already

got to open presents at my in -laws and figured

out because he's old enough He can actually rip

open presents so It's funny watching that and

then Ian's like go go go go like he totally gets

it So To watch them Experience this is really

really interesting and it kind of like I really

don't care about getting gifts for myself anymore

Like I don't get disappointed. I don't care like

I mean, it's not a big deal like honestly it's

it's a lot easier and a lot less messy in the

sense that because like i mean i don't really

exchange gifts with my family they don't exchange

with me we just kind of the kids are the ones

that we worry about that's it yeah so like it's

it's a lot nicer in that sense and and honestly

if there's something i really want i'll just

buy it like it's not It's not a huge deal for

me Whereas like the kids like to see them get

something that they like or you know They may

not even know what they want and to see them

get something And then watch their face light

up and then quickly forget about it as they open

the next present It's just it's it's truly priceless.

So like I really enjoy watching the whole thing

transpire every year I Will say that I do still

get Mary gifts, and she gets me gifts. She's

insinuated that she's getting me a few this year

that will be, you know, smaller items. I have

a... She told me what she wants, which is like

organization of all the kids' videos. onto DVDs

so that you know she can watch all of like year

one of Ian and year one of Nolan and year two

of Ian and so on We have so many videos to go

through that I'm still like I'm still digging

up videos like I don't even know where they're

coming from but like I'm still I'm still discovering

videos so like to have that ready for Christmas

it was like There was no way in hell So I had

two other methods of things that I was planning

like she really wants to a digital camera and

I Obviously, I'm not going to buy one until we

know exactly what we're getting but There's also

the other plan which I would say right now except

I don't know don't I was gonna say because I

mean she don't listen damn podcast anyway, but

I'm in the office which is directly below the

bedroom. So like Don't want to travel through

the registers. Don't say just shut up. But anyways

I'll reveal that in an altered geek when we After

Christmas. Yeah, but anyways, so I'm working

on that. Let's just say I'm hoping it goes over

well because it's not exactly like What she asked

for in general, but like I think that it would

be something useful Yep, yep. So here's the funny

thing. You say you're working on eventually getting

all the videos of the kids and everything else

and organizing them. Imagine being our parents

in the 80s. We had, I remember my mom, my mom

and I, my aunt and uncle, Uncle Robert and Aunt

Debbie, and their three kids, Rachel, Robbie,

and Cassie. Between all of us we shot so much

video we shot so many videocassettes of holidays

and birthdays and Christmases and just imagine

having to organize all of that Compared to the

digital world we live in today Like yeah finding

all the stuff is gonna be you know hard and whatever

else But once you find it all and start working

on it the time is gonna fly But just imagine

being a parent in the 80s having to deal with

video cassettes. Oh my god, just Technology you

gotta love it Yeah for me after after Christmas

and New Year's ninety ninety two into ninety

three Because I ended up moving around the different

foster homes and all this stuff. It's just like

it kind of like I would get a call from my mom,

or I would call her on Christmas, or I would

get a card from her. And really what it boiled

down to after a while was either I would send

her money, or she would send me money, or we'd

both send each other money, or whatever. And

it's just one of those things. Christmas is over

the last, well, last 10 years or so. I had four

Christmases with mom 2006 to 2010 when she was

down here for four years so that those are always

pretty interesting and You know she'd tell me

what she wanted and I'd you know tell her a few

things and we get what we get and that's that's

fine We really had fun with was The decorating

of the Christmas tree because from the time I

was a kid Okay, most families. I know you're

either a certain tree topper kind of family.

You're either the star or the angel. And we were

always the star family. Yeah, we were the angel.

Christ. I mean, we ought to call up Steve Harvey

and be on Family Feud or something, anyway. So

it's one of those things where, you know, for

the longest time we were, you know, the star

family and we would always put the star on the

tree and everything else. And our whole family

would do that for the most part. But these four

Christmases my before my well my grandmother

passed away in 2007 But right before that a few

years before that she had gotten my mom this

dancing Grinch And it basically plays the themes

the the animated short theme song. You know you're

a mean one Mr.. Grinch, and it's it's some it's

the old Ravenscroft's voice You know doing the

singing whatever else this Grinch thing used

to dance and The last, you know, the four Christmases,

2006 to 2010, that's what we ended up using as

the tree topper. It was hard as hell to do this

because if you've seen those things, if you've

held those things because of the battery compartment

and the mechanics that are in them, a Christmas

tree is not gonna support that thing. Luckily,

ours did because we had it... Not all the way

up against the wall, but where the top of the

tree was it was kind of leaning against a little

bit So we could just balance him against the

wall so that that that was always pretty cool

but now decorating the Christmas tree obviously,

you know the tinsel silver and gold and all that

and the lights and were you guys a a Colored

lights family or were you a white lights family?

It would kind of be determined year to year um

like last year even even in our own home um what

we did is uh we did have the um we did have the

different colored lights on the outside of the

tree and i had all white lights on the inside

of the tree like we lined two different sets

of of lights and then like my mom she always

had like the blinking colored lights on the out

on the inside like around the base of the tree

all the way up and then we would have like colored

lights around it that were solid on the outside

yeah um and then you know so i mean it we kind

of switch it year to year of course my mom has

two different colored christmas trees she has

an all white one and then an all green one so

yeah we would never like i i don't understand

the white christmas tree i I just don't. It's

like the white Christmas. It's snow. The whole

point, yeah, the whole point, and you know this

living in Michigan, the whole point of having

a white Christmas is actual snow, not faux Christmas

tree. Faux Christmas tree, faux Christmas tree.

we always had colored lights because I've always

found just white lights even if they're blinking

I just find them just they're fine for the outside

of the house like obviously Clark W Griswold

25 ,000 you know twinkle lights that's fine the

outside of the house they're fine but for the

actual tree it's like that's not decorating a

tree that's just putting regular light bulbs

on a tree that's that's like a country Christmas

or something I don't know But we always had colored

lights. What we rotated on was whether they blinked

or not. Some years they did, some years they

didn't. And then that all -important placement

of the ornaments. My mom had a million different

ornaments. We had pictures, we had regular ones,

we had big ones, we had small ones, we had icicles.

Had all kinds of stuff. It was just so cool.

it really really was yeah we kind of uh like

we always had an abundance of crap on the tree

every year um but like this year the bottom four

rows of the tree do not have anything on them

other than the lights because uh we have a puppy

and we have a child both of them are destructive

Yeah, that yeah You need you need clearance for

the destruction Well, the dog likes takes stuff

off the tree as well. So You guys use real or

fake fake tree. Okay good. I was gonna say last

thing you need is What's the dog's name Piper?

Last thing you need is Piper turning into a snot

Eddie if he drinks all the water out of the tree

the thing will dry up It seems like I've heard

something about this before. I haven't yet watched

that movie this year, but I'm intending to. Okay,

so I don't want to bring this show down, but

it's a fact of life, people. I can't avoid it.

My mom passed away this year. And I am so far

beyond being in the Christmas spirit that's one

of the reasons why I wanted us to do this is

to maybe kick myself in the ass to get into the

spirit. I was not going to watch any of the traditional

normal Christmas media pieces that I've watched

for my entire life. Wasn't going to watch Charlie

Brown Christmas, wasn't going to watch Grinch,

wasn't going to watch Christmas Vacation, wasn't

going to watch Grandma Got Run over by a Reindeer,

wasn't going to watch anything. My girl Jen,

she did a live stream for a couple weeks ago,

a couple weeks before Christmas, and she showed

Charlie Brown and Christmas vacation and that

kind of kicked my ass a little bit more But without

my mom here, it's just it's just one of those

things where it's just not the same like my grandfather

passed away in 2000 2000 yeah 2000 not 2001 2000

and that was a you know, obviously it's a very

hard thing But like that death didn't not want

me to didn't cause me to not want to celebrate

Christmas like but you know my grandmother passed

away in 2007 that was a little harder and then

obviously now my mom's gone so it's like holy

crap um but it's one of those things where i

just didn't want to didn't want i didn't feel

like watching any of them um and like i said

jen showed this stuff on our live stream i was

like all right you know i i can get into it a

little bit and the funny thing is i don't remember

like Like I said, my mom and I had four really

awesome Christmases from 2006 to 2010. She moved

back to Massachusetts for two years. I brought

her back down here in 2012 and she was here until

she passed away this year. So we had another

three years, well, two and a half. But those,

the last two Christmases, 2013 and 2014, I do

not remember them at all. Cause all is I remember

is mom's health slowly declining. Like I do not

remember I Remember, you know posting all the

Christmas content that we've done because it

would with with M wire and tune cast classic

we did With M wire. We've done all the home loans

We've done the Santa Claus movies. We've done

a Christmas story We've done Christmas vacation.

We've done Jack Frost even though people hate

the Michael Keaton Jack Frost movie. I still

love You know this year Powers of Grayskull we

did We're on the sheer reviews, so we actually

ended this year with episode 52 which just came

out a little while ago Horde prime takes a holiday

So we ended that with that But yeah all these

movies. I just I don't know I So what what are

some of the movies and animated things that you

guys watch or that or that you're gonna? Show

your kids as they start growing up with with

Christmas stuff you what haven't I shown them

already? Okay, yeah, there is that I I've let

him watch like the the old Grinch I've let him

watch the Jim Carrey Grinch That's kind of in

moderation because it's got a lot of bad undertones

in it, you know eating glass and so on there's

a couple innuendos in there so I mean it's that

kind of stuff we kind of be careful with but

um then we have for instance uh um you know the

old like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer uh Frosty

the Snowman and then Frosty Returns and then

they got the Legend of Frosty the Snowman which

takes place even after those um which that's

on Netflix um my son loved that one We've watched

myself I like like Christmas vacation and watching

like Christmas with the cranks and like some

of these other a lot of other Christmas movies

that are out you know we've watched I'll be home

for Christmas and Basically anything it's on

Netflix right now But my son really loves the

Santa Claus movies with Tim Allen yeah, which

is great for me because like I don't mind watching

them Mary doesn't like the second one. I'm kind

of indifferent on it. I like the third one more

Mary likes the first one more so like and my

son likes the second one so like Because he's

like robot Santa like this Give me robot Santa

like and I'm like, okay So yeah, he's he's that's

his favorite one But uh, yeah, I mean we're Those

are those are the kind of movies that we watch

and and He really seems to enjoy them and as

long as he's not getting freaked out by anything

I mean, it's I don't see any harm in it But yeah,

I mean it's It's pretty fun like watching him

Experience these films and like he gets so like

into it like the the robot Santa He got so freaking

giggly now. It's funny now that he's seen Tim

Allen play Santa Claus Because now when he sees

him in last man standing, he's like, it's Santa

I'm like, yes, it is son to infinity and beyond

And I've shown him like the Toy Story short of

the Christmas thing and you know, I mean anything

basically that's been on like For Christmas related

stuff, I mean when he gets older I'll show him

die -hard but no Oh boy, here we go. I think

it's a Christmas movie. It's an action Christmas

movie. It's a movie that takes place at Christmas.

So does Iron Man 3. Yeah, I've never not said

that, but Iron Man 3 is not a Christmas movie,

neither is Die Hard. But anyways, so yeah, I'm

super stoked for kind of keeping that kind of

stuff going with him. He's... he's really enjoying

the the the Christmas season especially like

all the All the various like shows he can watch

and Animation the animation is probably the most

fun for him, but he I still would Rather he watched

you know intelligent stuff Not that the animation

isn't the animation actually is more intelligent

than yes i mean come on now so i mean yeah i

mean frosty teaches about friendship rudolph

teaches about is it magic though okay yeah but

okay you gotta have some sort of i know you are

but you gotta have some sort of you know you

gotta be able to give that kid some sort of resemblance

of dis you know uh... suspension of disbelief

Just don't show him the Star Wars Christmas special,

please. No one needs to see that. I've never

seen it, so I... I've never seen it either. I

never want to see it. You know, I almost want

to, just for the sake of saying that I've tried

watching it and to say that it's horrible. I...

I... No. I really do. I really do want to see

it. I just can't. Although there are films I

haven't seen because people have said don't watch

it. It's terrible. It's dog shit run away All

right, so What is your feeling on whether it's

because some years it's been TNT some years it's

been TBS I think TBS still this year What is

your feeling of 24 hours of a Christmas story?

I like it, but that's just me my wife hates that

film She's like that's not even a Christmas movie.

It's a movie about a kid that had something happen

to him on Christmas and he's you know She just

like she doesn't like it my dad like My dad will

leave the TV on like and I remember that when

I was a kid like we would be over at his house

you know sometimes for the holidays and We would

watch a Christmas story and He would He would

have it on, you know tvs, which I think tvs is

99 the time the one that shows it Um, yeah, there

was a time in the early 90s where it was tnt,

but they're owned by the same people Yeah, I

mean it doesn't matter but uh anyways like It

makes me Kind of laugh at when it's on actually

we've been watching it since it was since my

parents first split up Which I remember that

was like when we first started watching that

stupid movie And I didn't really care for it

when the first few times I saw it and then because

I've seen it like every Christmas like since

that year like 97 or 96 It's just been ingrained

in my head. So like I like enjoy the film now

and It's to the point where like when somebody

has it on even though I've just watched the damn

film and we're family I will sit there freaking

stare at the screen again to watch their movie

again It's it's hilarious to me because like

I there's no reason why I'm even re watching

the film again Yeah, but it's it's the sake that

I just enjoy it because I've seen it so many

times So, yeah Yeah, I I nowadays I will watch

it once per Christmas season I Loathe the fact

that they put this movie on for 24 hours. It

does It's just oh my god. It's never -ending

I Mean like I like the movie. I don't have a

problem with the movie itself I have a problem

with them showing it for 24 frigging hours. I

mean, that's the same thing as like when any

television network shows multiple marathons of

the same movie franchise like they'll do all

hey here's here's die hard one through four this

weekend and guess what next sunday instead of

saturday we're going to put it on sunday the

same damn thing it's the same thing with that

but i don't know it's just i i i like a christmas

story and i quote a lot of stuff for you know

triple dog dare ya You know, you'll shoot your

eye out. Well, you triple dog dare me to do something

to the art for this episode. It's in there. Yes,

it is. Let the hate flow through you. Let the

hate flow through you. I don't think I've ever

seen anyone use the Millennium Falcon as a tree

topper. Well, I did complete the... You know

the castle run, you know in 12 parsecs 12 parsecs.

Yep All right, I think is there anything else

you want to bring up about Christmas no other

than the fact that I hope everybody here has

a Merry Christmas and Gets everything they want

and leave in the comments what you guys got for

Christmas this year. I'm Definitely looking forward

to seeing what everybody got, because I'm looking

forward to seeing what I got, despite the fact

that I know that it's not a whole lot. I am looking

forward to the reaction my wife has when she

finds out what she got. There is that. There

is that. Alright folks, as Steve said, everyone

have a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy

Holidays, all that good stuff. I don't know what

we're gonna close out with we'll close out with

some Christmas thing or something or maybe we'll

have Chewbacca wish you a happy life day Okay,

now I really have to put that clip of Dustin

Vancouver in here stroke the wookie Oh God Happy

holidays everybody see you in 2016 actually we'll

see you before then because we'll have the year

-end review show New Year's Day, so we'll be

here Yeah, well, we're always here suck at your

back. No, I'm just Also you think of his oh no,

they said the wrong spot live long and suck it

Zachary quintile Okay, let's get out of here

before I crack up even more happy holidays everybody

gift ideas for me I have one I'd like Frank Shirley,

my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought

from his happy holiday slumber over there on

Melody Lane with all the other rich people. And

I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon

on his head. And I want to look him straight

in the eye, and I want to tell him what a cheap,

lying, no -good, rotten, for -flushing, low -life,

snake -licking, dirt -eating, inbred, overstuffed,

ignorant, blood -sucking, dog -kissing, brainless,

dickless, hopeless... Heartless, fat -ass, bug

-eyed, stiff -legged, spotty -lipped, worm -headed

sack of monkey shit he is!
