TeamBotimus Variety Hour
Childhood Toy Collections and Memories

About this Episode
This is Kevin Conway, and I am the goddamn Batman.
Not even supposed to be here today. much better
episode for now though courage this is the team
bottomless variety our episode 25 holy crap we're
at episode 25 and guess what after bottomless
is not even fucking here i am tf2 and mike and
joining me as always is slime blower bob hello
hello and his lovely wife candice howdy how are
you pretty good pretty good uh we do have a really
awesome topic for today before you get to that
uh... only of god it's gonna kill me i remember
that the episode the candles was on and i know
what we talked about in that is a matter of whether
it was a number was uh... when kandace was last
on the show uh... someone commented on the caster
your dot com of the author that you said that
wrote twilight no no no no it was a little bit
i'm sorry We had gotten into a discussion about
Star Wars and I had said this series written
by Karen Travis but because of the way they changed
canon in the Star Wars episodes in the I'm sorry
in the Clone Wars cartoon it changed the way
her books framed out and so it kind of she had
to stop the series and It was a whole big thing,
especially for people like me who had read the
series. It was really great. Well, one of the
things I talked about was that I said on your
show that she had written a bunch. She didn't
just write Star Wars books. I said she had written
Halo books as well. And I said, I know she's
written. I said, I'm pretty sure it's Halo. But
I said, I'm not positive. And what was really
kind of funny about it is the comment that was
made in the comments was that, no, she didn't
write Halo books. She didn't write Halo books.
And I was like, OK, well, maybe I was wrong.
I mean, if I'm wrong, I'll admit I'm wrong. Well,
we had an interesting experience this past week.
As all of you know, there's Comic Con. And the
tour books gave away five swag bags. that they
were giving away at comic con i get i assume
these were to the ip people or whatever anyway
it was basically a box of about 20 books and
a backpack this thing is huge there's just tons
and tens of books in it and so i get it i get
home i'm so excited i out right and we win this
we won this it was awesome so we get it like
i actually got it within a few days they ups
ground We got it here in like three days. I was
like, oh my goodness. It's already here. Yeah
Hey, so I rip it open and I'm going through this
box and guess what's in it a halo book written
by Karen Travis It was episode 16 that this that
this show was and I'm actually looking at the
post now and looking at the comment what Eric
Tannowski is said there was Karen Travis also
didn't write most of the halo books He's not
saying... Oh, well maybe I misunderstood then,
because I said she didn't write any. Well, he's
not saying that she didn't... She probably, obviously...
She didn't write most of them. There's actually
a list in the book, and they are farmed out to
all kinds of sci -fi writers. And there's...
You know, almost every book is written by a different
person. Just about. From what I was seeing in
the... You know, in front of the book, they list
all the books. Yeah, and there's they're just
kind of all over the board as far as who wrote
them But I just thought it was funny because
what she did do a series of my mistake was it
I said halo But what I was thinking of it was
the fact that she wrote Gears of War She wrote
four or five four Gears of War books and I believe
one of the Gears of War plots were based on one
of her storylines Something that I had talked
about And she's also doing Gears of War comic
book or graphic novel or something. I was, I
looked it up today and there's actually this
book that she's got out now, this new Halo book
called Grass, Glasslands is the first in I think
it set a trilogy coming out in the Halo series.
This one came out last fall and then there's
another one coming out in October and then there's
another one slated to come out after that I think.
No. No, sorry it was there's one out now and
then the next one's coming out this fall I don't
think there was a third one in it. I could be
wrong I can't remember now y 'all made me turn
off my mouse so I can't go look So yeah, what
we're gonna be talking about this time around
for the 25th episode is The toys we had as kids
and played with and the toys that we wanted to
start collecting as adults for me it was I've
told this I've told a part of this story multiple
times in my four years of podcasting so if people
have heard it before you know fast forward for
about five minutes I remember having various
transformers. My mom still says to this day that
I had a G1 Optimus. If I did, I don't remember.
I'm impressed that your mom knows what a G1 Optimus
means, what that even means. Because my mom would
be like, huh? I educated my mom on a lot of stuff,
so... Definitely. My mother would not care enough
to listen. So Well my She says I had the original
84 optimus I barely remember this what I do remember
having is the Was it 88 89? I forget I think
I think it was one of those years when the power
masters came out I had power master optimus.
I remember having him. I had blaster I had various
different cassettes. So that was what I had for
Transformers. I wasn't a G .I. Joe guy, and I
think the reason why I wasn't a G .I. Joe guy
was because I already had like a bucket full
of those green, you know, statuesque army men.
I was like, yeah, why do I need these other figures
when I have these little ones? I wasn't a Star
Wars guy. I had Legos. But the Legos for me was
like, hey, build this. And I was like, I usually
just ended up building a brick wall and sending
some crash test dummies into it. Let's see, what
else did I have? I mainly had, my biggest collection
as a kid was Masters of the Universe. Half of
it was at my mom's house and the other half was
at my dad's house in Rhode Island. Here's the
part of the story that people have heard so many
times before I went to my dad's one time and
His his house in Rhode Island had I think it
was a three -bedroom apartment I don't know there
was his bedroom my bedroom and then Another room
that was kind of like an office, but it was really
a place for my toys I went down there one time
one in the room. You know cuz that's work I had
Grayskull at my mom's, I had Castle Grayskull
at my mom's, and I had Snake Mountain at my dad's.
So, all of the... This is so weird, I have no
idea why. All of the heroes were at my mom's,
and all of the villains were at my dad's house.
I have no idea why. I do remember, you know,
bringing different villains back and forth, but
most of the villains stayed at my dad's house
in Rhode Island, and I went there one time to
visit him. I was six years old, this was 1986,
and uh... When in there, it was gone. Everything
just gone. I'm like, where are my toys? You're
too old for toys. I sold them all. I was six
years old. If I still had all of that stuff today
and it was still in, you know, decent enough
condition, I could be frigging rich if I was
going to sell that stuff on eBay. So. There's
that. I was big into the starting lineup figures.
I was big into the McDonald's food changers and
food fighters for the Happy Meal toys. I always
wanted a full set of the Super Looney Tunes McDonald's
Happy Meal toys, but I never actually got a full
set. I only had Bugs and Daffy. And those Happy
Meal toys are, unless you're going to McDonald's
every single day for a month during one of those
runs of toys, you're not gonna be able to get
them all. I remember the only one, I did have
Bugs Daffy and I think I had Wonder Pig too.
I think the only one I was missing was Taz Flash.
My cousin Robbie had that and he would never
let me have it. Little bastard. The other part
of Transformers was I had Blaster. My best friend
Jonathan at the time had Soundwave. Again, the
bastard would never let me play with it. Wouldn't
even let me touch the damn thing. So that was
that. And the rest of it is just a bunch of random
stuff, honestly. I had a few of the James Bond
Jr. figures. I had a few of the Cops and Crooks
figures. I had a number of the Dick Tracy figures.
I had a number of the mask vehicles. I was the
only kid in the neighborhood that actually had
the Boulder Hill playset at the time when that
came out. I had a couple of Captain Planet toys
when those were out as a kid. I didn't have too
much Simpsons stuff I had a lot of Simpsons clothes
when the Simpsons like season 2 and season 3
hits like 90 to 90 through 90 to 92 when it was
like I think they I don't my my parents were
actually really weird and my dad hated that show
and we were not allowed to watch it my dad felt
like He heard some kids say don't have a cow
man and about blew my dad's top He about went
holistic and he informed me and my brother that
we were not allowed to watch that show ever That
was the same thing I went to like my mom would
let me watch anything It surprises me going back
and watching old movies now like a few months
ago I went back and I watched Robocop and I have
not seen the first Robocop in Years it was last
time I saw the first Robocop film was probably
92, 93 and I was 12 or 13 years old at that time.
My mom would let me watch anything. I went back
and I watched Robocop a few months ago. I could
not believe how violent that movie is. Yeah,
because you don't think about that when we're
kids and it's like I just saw the second one
not too long ago and I was like, wow. Yeah. Well,
and when I when I was a kid, you know, I couldn't
watch The Simpsons. But, you know, I watched
Aliens, the second Alien movie, well enough that
I can quote the damn thing. As a kid, I mean,
it was on HBO. I watched it constantly. I could
quote that movie to you. I used to pretend to
be Ripley. You know, at the end of that one,
it's a happily ever after because Ripley lives
and Newt lives and, you know, the one soldier
makes it, you know. And so at the end, so I would
play in my playroom. It was 10 years later and
Newt was all grown up and everything was full.
And then the third one came out, you know, and
kind of ruined my whole life. But Newt died,
Newt died, you know, but still, you know, I mean,
I, I, I, I liked it well enough and watched it
that I played it in my bedroom. So and I'm going,
you know, and I do look back on it and I'm like,
I would never want my kids 10. I might let her
watch it now. You know my parents my parents
never cared I watched fast times or it's mine
high when it came out and Candice has never seen
that movie because her parents wouldn't let her
watch our rated movies to this day She still
has never seen it I've never seen that. I've
never seen Porky's. She has no desire to. I've
seen bits and pieces of Revenge of the Nerds,
but I've never seen her. I've never seen that
movie from beginning to end, I don't think. I
think I've only ever seen Revenge of the Nerds
2 and 3. One of them I saw most of the way, I
think. Yeah. Yeah, but it's so weird, you know,
the Simpsons stuff. My mom would let me watch
that all the time because it was just... Another
part of cartoon culture at that time. I remember
The only place I could watch it was at my mom's
house because when I was with my dad and at the
time my Future stepmother who is now No longer
my stepmother since back in 06. She and my dad
got divorced. So that only lasted 87 to a little
bit less than 25 years You know, so but I remember
it clear as day the premiere Sunday night In
December of 89 when that was New Year's Eve.
I think I think it was New Year's Eve It was
I know it was in December of 89 when the show
first had its first episode on Fox And it was
the Santa's Little Helper episode I sat down
at the TV. I turned it on like oh, hey, what's
this? we were at my stepmother's then her brother's
place and he had a couple of kids and you know
three of us just sat down and watched it and
all of a sudden they're like what are you watching
and they kinda like stood there like for about
five seconds like no you can never watch this
ever again so yeah but My mom won't let me watch
anything. I I believe I remember having Simpsons
toys So I know that there was Simpson toy merchandise
back then because I remember having a Bart man
And all that good stuff, so I I do remember that
um Other toys I had a bunch of board games. I
actually had the Knight Rider board game awesome
it was It's not a Miami of spy hunter From the
NES days, but it was a board game and it was
pretty friggin cool You need to see Mike's profile
page Candice. He has actually has a picture of
him with David Hasselhoff when he was a kid.
Yeah Yeah, when he actually got to meet the man
cool when I was a kid now, you know I lived in
the group have grown up in the Midwest and have
never been anywhere near a celebrity and wouldn't
know what to do with myself if I was and My uncle
had a little black like Subaru or something that
he had bought and would. And it broke down or
something, but he didn't have the money to fix
it. He was still living with his grandma. My
grandma, I think he was in college and my grandma
had this big backyard and the driveway actually
went kind of into the backyard. So he parked
that car in the Middle Lee backyard. And I remember
being a little kid and I would play with the
neighbor girls and we spent even all through
the winter We did this all winter long for some
damn reason We would go get in that car and pretend
that that was the KitKat car because it was the
girl version We didn't call it kit. We called
it KitKat. I don't know why But we used to get
in that car because the first time we did it
It was so warm because you know, it was a black
car and the Sun had been beaten down on it all
day Even in the middle of where it was warm in
there Right, so we did it all the time because
it was warm. We'd sit in there We pretend we
were driving and you know and saving the world
and all in the KitKat car My poor uncle probably
found all kinds of snow and crap in that car
and God only knows what we brought in there He
probably finally got doing what the hell happened
to my car I actually have it's actually funny
that that picture that Bob's talking about part
of that event part of that bought it was the
Boston Budweiser Expo it was David Hasselhoff
was the only one I could remember being there
I know there was other people there but it's
it's kind of like I don't know what kind of car
shows that you guys have out there but here in
Louisville we have Carl Casper's custom auto
show we have Darrell star star bird or whatever
that is that famous guy okay star birds show
right right well you know it was it was it was
one of those types of shows where you'd have
a celebrity and you would have the car there
and and they had the kit car there and this was
in 1986 so this was in the while the fourth season
was on television and i can remember as a kid
you just like and said about it about aliens
i had this season for a night rider i had a line
for lying down every moment of that for the season
as a kid i can remember watching it and part
of the package to get david haselhoff's you know
to get your picture taken an autograph for part
of the you know uh... i don't know what my mom
paid to you know i haven't done or whatever but
part of it was you could sit in the kid car have
your picture taken i'm sitting in the car and
i put a link in the uh... in the chat to the
picture i'm sitting in the car and it took you're
only supposed to sit there for like you know
enough time to get your picture taken you're
supposed to look at the camera well i'm sitting
there for fifteen minutes wanting to just play
with the car i didn't even give a shit about
the picture So, but yeah, I mean, what about
you, Candice? What did you, uh, what kind of
toys did you have growing up and stuff that you
played with? Well, I was a girl. So what are
you now? Barbie girl living in a Barbie girl.
What are you now then? If you was a girl, I was
a bar. I'm a Barbie woman. Thank you. Anyway,
and now for the most part, I had typical girl
toys. I had Barbies. and and undress them and
put them in different clothes all the time mess
with their hair and you know do different things
and just make them look like models and then
I you know and then I put them away in fact my
mom still has my dolls she kept we saved we went
through them when I was about 14 or 15 and I
had these two big boxes of them and she said
okay pick out the four nicest ones that you want
to keep or five And I said, all right. And I
picked up four or five and I said, and I want
to keep all the clothes. She said, okay, that's
fine, but you got to fit it all in this one container.
I said, I can do that. And it is, it's all in
one container. In fact, my daughter plays with
them on occasion when she's at my mom's house.
You still have the gem dolls. And I have the
gem dolls. I had quite a few of the gem dolls
too. I didn't have all of them though. I just
had, I think I had, I had gem, I had pizzazz
and I had Rico. the boy and I had one other band
member I think it was the one with the it was
kimber I think yeah she was she was jim's sister
with the red hair yeah I think it was it kimber
was it the girl with the blue hair I can't remember
which ones I had but I had one of those the band
members yeah and I had a bunch of clothes just
for her too In fact, it's really funny because
I was with my daughter and we were looking at
these gem dolls because it was around the time
that gem and the holograms started playing on
the hub all the time. Right. And so we were at
my mom's house. I said, you need to look at these.
So we got that box out that had these gem dolls
in it and the clothes. And it's really sad because
as I'm pulling out the dolls and the clothes,
I'm going, oh, no, this outfit goes together
here. This is this outfit. I could remember.
And the sad thing was is I'm remembering and
I'm looking and then I'm watching the old episodes
with my daughter on TV later and I'm like, see,
that's that outfit I had, remember? Oh my God,
mom, that's the one you had. Yes, it is. Because
I had all the clothes that they had in the show.
It was really sad. But, you know, that was and
the other thing I had, you talked about Master
of the Universe, I had She -Ra. Yeah. I had the
She -Ra dolls and I had quite a few of them.
And the only Master of the Universe doll I had
was Tila. but every other one I had was She -Ra
and I had all the She -Ra dolls and I mean God
I can't even remember any of them's name but
I had a lot of them I had about seven of them
or eight of them seems like so I can't remember
if I had good guys or bad guys or a mix or what
seemed like I had one seems like I had one that
had a cat tail or cat look too yeah that's Catra
yeah yeah I remember her and I remember a blue
girl unfortunately Probably, yeah, that sounds
right. And I can't remember what else I had,
but I had She -Ra, you know, and I loved my little
She -Ra dolls. But the only other thing I had
really was I was a Star Wars fan. And when Return
of the Jedi came out, it's actually kind of funny.
When I was, when, we never had went to the movies
with my family. I can count on one hand how many
times I've been to the movies with my family.
You know, that's just something that we didn't
do. We had a very tight budget, and that was
just something that we didn't go do. You know,
we got HBO, so eventually get on HBO. Well, when
Star Wars and New Hope came on HBO, you know
how they do it. They'll have it on once at the
end of the month in like one month, then the
next month they'll have it on 33 ,000 times.
Well, I watched probably 29 of those 32 ,000
times that it was on. I could quote it within
60 days of seeing it for the first time, I could
quote that movie to you. And you know, and I'm
like seven, maybe, well, maybe nine, you know,
I'm like seven or nine, you know, I'm pretty
young, you know, and I'm quoting this movie to
you and I've seen it, you know, on HBO as many
times as it was on, I knew every turn, every
bit of it. And I loved that movie. Well, around
that time, to tell you when this was, it was
not, it was around the same time that Return
of the Jedi came out in the theaters, maybe three,
four months later. It came out in the theaters.
Well, my dad, because he loved his daughter,
took me and my brother to go see Return of the
Jedi. Not having seen Empire Strikes Back, didn't
realize there was another movie in there. Uh
-oh. me to see Return of the Jedi, which was,
you know, honestly, probably for me, if you'd
have taken me to see an Empire after seeing the
first one and being such a high and then took
me to see Empire, I probably would have been
depressed for weeks, you know, because it would
have been such a sad ending and I would have
been crying and, you know, and all that. So it's
probably a good thing that I saw Return of the
Jedi before I ever saw Empire. But what's funny
is I have About that times when I started collecting
Star Wars toys. Well all the Star Wars toys I
have for the most part are all from Return of
the Jedi or Empire Strikes Back Like I have Empire
Leia from Bespin. I Have Vader I have a Yoda
I have the c3po that comes apart Right there
with all the legs and the legs legs in the head
and it came with the bag And I don't know if
I still have that little rubber bag it came with
that went on Chewbacca's back, but I had a Chewbacca
You know and it was like I mom would buy those
packs from JCPenney's where it had one cool character
and then the four little characters that you
can't even remember who they're named who they
are You know, you know she used to get those
for me and Was the bounty hunter I had Leia investment
I had Leia on On indoor I think those were the
three I had They didn't make Slave Leia, I'd
have got that one too. Yeah, I don't think, you
know, toy standards and practices would allow
Slave Leia back then. Yeah, I know, which was
too bad. But, you know, I would have gotten that.
And I wouldn't have thought of me anything about
it being sexy or anything like that. I would
have just been like, it's Leia, I have to have
it because I love her. Of course, Leia was the
only girl in the entire series of trilogy of
movies. Well, she wasn't the only girl in the
original trilogy because you did have Aunt Peru,
but she was the main star, yes. You had Aunt
Peru, you had Mon Montha, but you did not have
a major player. She was the only major player
that was a girl. Yeah. And that's what I connected
with as a kid. Right. And so, you know, she was,
you know, that's who I connected with. And so
I had all the Leia dolls. I don't even think
I had a Luke Skywalker. Which is really sad,
but I should have had a Luke Skywalker But and
I don't think I had a Han Solo either no, I think
I did have a Luke because I remember he lost
his lightsaber out of his hand and So he just
looks like he has a gun on the end And I had
a Ben Kenobi Oh, I had old Ben Kenobi I remember
because I took the rubber cloth off of him because
I lost something on one of my Leia dolls and
so I used that as a pattern and like cut Leia
other jackets to wear with the thin Kenobi one.
I was that kid. My Leia had sleeping bags, she
had pillows, she had all these little crafty
things that I would make her because I wanted
her to have accessories that they didn't make.
No, but that was about it though. I mean I really
didn't have Too much I mean those were the things
that I think I collected Looking back. I wish
I had saved a little bit more those especially
one of the original toys I had was I had an original
Boba Fett And now his rocket didn't come out.
He wasn't the good original Boba Fett Yeah, he
wasn't the prototype. No, he wasn't the prototype
cool one where the rocket actually came out.
Yeah. Unfortunately, but I did have an original
Boba Fett. But for the most part, though, I think
that was, you know, I just didn't I would love
to have still had some I have some of my Star
Wars toys, but, you know, they're not in the
greatest of shape. You know, they're just not.
In fact, I think Bob did a Didn't you do a review
of... I have the original C -3PO and R2 -D2 that
I had. And then he got out the ones that they
did for episode 1 because we had bought them
and we had two of each one. And so he went ahead
and opened the packages of those because we have
a whole bunch of toys that are in package now.
Star Wars toys. We just have like boxes of them.
Yeah, we'll get into that a little bit later.
Yes. When we get up to your home, my dream is
to have a nerd room and it's going to be all
the box toys are going to come out and be put
up on shelves and look really not really cool,
I hope. I have a vision. But anyway, he did a
review on that and the difference in the quality
of what they look like, you know, and when you're
looking at them in, you know, the 80s, you're
thinking, these are awesome. Oh, my God. They're
like the R2D2 when you look at the old one and
then you look at the new one. It doesn't even
look like R2 -D2. It is the saddest rendition.
I think a 10 -year -old could have made a better
version of R2 -D2. It was scary. It was really
scary. Bob, you're going to need to find that
because I'm not allowed to touch my keyboard
because it sounds horrible through the microphone.
Find what? Oh, find the video? Yeah, find the
video and link it up for him. But no, it's just...
scary how inaccurate those dolls were. But, you
know, those are probably, but still be neat to
have more of this stuff I had. And I had the
Ewok Village in Jabba the Hutt. Oh, wow. I had
the Ewok Village and the Ewok Village was cool
because you put in one of the trees, three trees,
and one of the trees, if you put a character
in it, it came out and slid out the bottom. It
was a slide. So you put them in the top and they'd
slide out and be on the bottom. It had a net
that you could put underneath and you pull the
string and it'd catch whoever you put on it,
you know. And it had one that was like a little
house. And I don't remember what the... I think
the third one was just decoration. But yeah,
I remember the one had the slide and I used to
have... That slide was awesome. I loved that.
That was so funny. And then the Jabba the Hutt.
I don't know. Did you ever see the Jabba the
Hutt from the 80s? Yeah. Yeah. You know, what
cracked me up was, you know... they had the he
was sitting on this thing that you could open
up but it wasn't like a trap door so instead
of the doors going down they opened all the way
up so i'm like how could this be even as a kid
i was like well that's not a trap door because
they can avoid that because they'd open up and
out instead of down oh yeah and up and out instead
of down into inside and even as a kid i was like
that's just stupid I used to call that Jabba's
poop pit because I wouldn't put my characters
and my toys in it because I was like that's stupid
that even anybody would know to walk around that
you know wouldn't capture anybody so I called
it that's where Jabba went to the bathroom oh
my god that's oh god I thought it was even as
a kid I thought that was stupid That was ridiculous.
They should have slid apart. You should have
been able to pull them through from the outside
or something. But they did. They opened up. They
opened up and out instead of down and in or pulled
apart or something. So it wasn't what it was
supposed to be. So I just thought it was stupid.
Yeah. What about you, Bob? What did you have
growing up? What toys, lines, or toys were you
interested in having to play with? I know this
is gonna sound weird, but like the first thing
I started collecting was like Muppet toys, and
I don't know I'm 39 years old so back when the
Muppet show was still on the air They I can't
remember who makes them, but they were like little
action figures yeah, and Dang it. I've been looking
for it, and I can't find it Anyway, I started
out with those and then I got into the GI Joe's
because My dad was a big wrestling fan like WWF
back then and then when sergeant slaughter went
with GI Joe and He was on the team I kind of
it was kind of like a crossover thing and then
I I got sergeant slaughter figure of the GI Joe
and It kind of led into I had to buy more GI
Joe's to go with the certain slaughter and you
know, I had I had all the the vehicles and everything
And then I kind of got bored with that. So where
I lived in Pennsylvania, there's a place called
the Green Dragon, which is like a flea market.
And every Friday, my dad would take us there
and I'd pick up Transformer. And this is back
in the 80s. So I think my very first ones were
the aerial bots to make, you know, Superion.
Yeah, because I was really I loved him. I don't
know why what drove me to him Because I didn't
never had a transformer before and they had the
whole set right there And then every week from
then on it was somebody different, you know Optimist
and every week it was somebody different and
I wish I'd still have all that stuff But I have
a story kind of like yours I went to school one
day I came home and I was Went into my room and
I was like, hey, wait a minute. Where's all my
stuff? and my dad sold it at a yard sale. So,
that kind of lost my childhood there. And then,
right after I lost everything, I started going,
okay, Transformers, I was getting a little bit
older, so I started Ninja Turtles. And I had
all the Ninja Turtles, and that was my babies.
And then I've had them, and I had them, and I
moved. I grew up, got out of school. And just
without you know moving around and stuff. I lost
them somewhere But yeah, I was in a kind of a
haze so I wouldn't really know where they went
anyway So I don't know that's that's kind of
like what started me into it And then I stopped
collecting for a very very very long time Yeah,
and till we pretty much had kids, and then I
never really looked at toys because you know
I'm an adult Whatever. No, but me and Candice,
we did our Star Wars thing, so we both had something
in common. So before we had kids, we went out,
you know, when episode one came out, we seen
the toys and it was like, well, that'd be kind
of cool. And that's kind of what got us back
into it, at least me. And then, you know, having
kids now, you know, that brings us up to toys
nowadays and why I do what I do now. Which we
will talk about after this break. even in a galaxy
far, far away. Check this shit. You got Cracker
Farm Boy, Luke Skywalker, Nazi poster boy, blonde
hair, blue eyes. And then you got Darth Vader,
the blackest brother in the galaxy, Nubian God.

gets frozen, take away by Boba Fett, it ends
on such a down note. I mean, that's what life
is, a series of down endings. All Jedi had was
a bunch of Muppets. So now we move on to toy
collecting today, and I think I'll go first because
I get into it very late. I... I think pretty
much after I was 14 or 15 I was done with toys.
at the time and I've told this part of my story
before as well by the time I was 15 I was awarded
the state of Kentucky and I was moving around
from foster home to foster home to you know different
group homes and all that crap so toys were the
very furthest thing from my mind by the time
I was 14 -15 years old I did not even get back
into toys until I was 28 back in 2008 I spent
And I wish I learned my lesson now back then.
I think there was only one other thing I had
bought on eBay back in 2006. I bought one of
those Korean -made FC Twins. What it is, is it's
a combination video game system. It takes NES
and Super NES and puts them into one system.
So you have two different ports, whether it's
NES games or SNES games. I bought that off eBay.
I bought, I think at the time I bought an old
classic Game Boy, but that was pretty much my
beginnings with eBay. And then in 2008, I had
the, I don't know, from, you know, starting to
listen to podcasts and other stuff, I started
listening to CFY, and they were talking about
the, you know, the Transformers toys, and it
really got me thinking, oh, I want my childhood
back. And at the time I was working for this
company where I was essentially a... live -in
security guard, essentially like an apartment
manager type of deal. And they essentially paid
me a salary and also gave me free rent. So I
essentially had oodles of extra money coming
in besides what bills I had to pay, which was
pretty much small amounts of stuff. And I decided
one night that I would go shopping on eBay. for
five figures Soundwave Blaster G1 Galvatron which
friggin sucked because it was the Hasbro version
and not the Takara version the Hasbro version
of G1 Galvatron is that Garish grayish bluish.
It's not even color accurate to the film So Soundwave
Blaster Galvatron all the cassettes that I liked
and g one up to eighty eight four of us those
five different things i spent a total of fifteen
hundred or breaking the word uh... yeah uh...
sound wave blaster and optimus some of them blaster
or three hundred and some dollars each and uh...
optimus was actually a pretty good steel it uh...
it was he was a hundred twenty five in the case
all the different sets ended up being like uh...
Somewhere around a hundred two hundred dollars
total Say I spent fifteen hundred dollars on
five transformers to get my childhood back of
course since then I've learned my lesson obviously
But no, that's what got me started into toy collecting
and I you know I started you know Going into
the toy aisles at my local Target and Walmart
and I started getting back into transformers
And that's really where where it will where it
kind of laid and I started seeing These masters
classics videos online. I think I think Paul
was one of the first ones that I saw And then
I you know obviously since the only one that
really does them anymore now is pixel Dan I switched
over to watching his stuff, and I really got
back into Masters I Watched a series on YouTube
called superhero mugs this guy Jason Henry I
did stop motion with Mighty Mugs, mostly the
Marvel Universe ones that they made. So I then
went on a huge spending spree of Mighty Mugs.
I think I had a total of 90 different Mighty
Mugs. I had all the Transformers ones. I had
all the G .I. Joe ones. I had a good portion
of the Marvel ones, but I didn't have them all,
and I had just started getting into the Star
Wars Mighty Mugs. and you know I kept collecting
kept collecting you know I would get I got a
lot of the war for Cybertron stuff a listener
sent me a war for Cybertron Megatron you know
I had all this stuff and I then because of other
life circumstances was between 2010 and late
2011 I moved like three or four different times
within the same city because of the HUD program
that I'm in and and it was just like I don't
want to have to keep lugging these boxes everywhere
and just keeping these toys in storage and all
this stuff and everything else and I was like
you know what I had some financial hard times
hit me because by this time I'm not working at
the company anymore so the extra money wasn't
coming in so I'm like yeah I just don't need
them anymore I sold my entire toy collection
Then I wanted to get back into it. I thought
getting a and people know my Bob knows where
this is going people know my My opinions on Maddie
scalper calm right now But I thought getting
the 2012 club subscription for Masters universe
classics would have you know Really got me back
into you know having a toy collection, and it
actually drove me out of collecting Well, not
the toys in Matty collector. Oh, right. No digital.
We're not not the actual toys but dealing with
Matty collector .com and digital river. That's
what drove me out of collecting because it was
just a huge nightmare the whole point of that
of that subscription model that they have at
that website is You're supposed to be able to
you know your order supposed to be really smooth
it's supposed to just go through automatically
they'll charge your card and send you your figure
well half the time we wouldn't get our figures
until after the on sale date and then it would
be three weeks after the on sale date that anyone
would get anything from that website so that's
that's really the the whole logistical nightmare
that is mattycollector .com drove me out of toy
collecting I thought the classic Ninja Turtles
was gonna get me back into it those look amazing
I would love to have those but at the same time
I Honestly have no idea if and when the program
is gonna move me again I've been in my current
apartment over a year now, so that's that's good,
but I've heard rumors that our Leases up soon
or not soon soon, but like you know by the end
of this year or something like that So I don't
know and just you know after dealing with all
that crap, I just got out of toys. But when I
was collecting, I absolutely loved it. I loved
getting different, all the different Transformers
characters that I had and all that stuff. So
what about you, Candace? What do you collect
now? Well, I have a, I obviously collect Star
Wars toys and some of them are You know, the
ones I got into collecting, I didn't want the
typical Star Wars, you know, out of the box,
you know, the two feet, the little, what are
they? How tall are those? Five inch figures?
Four inch figures? The little ones? Like the
regular ones, Bob? I don't know. Those three
and three quarter ones? Yeah. Yeah. Is that what
they are? I don't even know. Yeah, they're classic.
Yeah. The classic size I had really not a whole
lot that I didn't really want to do that and
I discovered at comic we went to a comic -con
I think in 2007 was it Sound right to you. Yeah
2006 2007 we went and I discovered Yes, it was
wizard world. Sorry not comic -con. Forgive me.
Um But we went to that and if we discover I discovered
a Star Wars unleashed dolls Oh, I love these
suckers there be I I love them. They're all there
and I I have Do I what I have ten of them eight
of them two three four five six? Anyway, they're
beautifully sculpted. I have ten of them. They're
beautifully sculpted I so wish we had bought
that Leia slave Leia one we've never bought kicking
myself in the gut for not pick I know we should
have picked that up when we had it and we kept
on an Or a sing and there's no I don't remember
seeing an or a sing Darth Maul The Darth Maul
was the one we didn't pick up. I don't remember
seeing or seeing but yeah, they had but Yeah,
we went to that and I discovered these and they
they are just such beautifully crafted I just
love them. I have a Django with the young Boba
Fett. I have Obi -Wan Kenobi from episode two,
Obi -Wan Kenobi from episode three. I have Han
in Stormtrooper gear from episode four. I have,
you know, several others. I have a great Darth
Vader that I just love. I have Luke Skywalker
in his Hoth. Not the, when he was out in the
wind, when he's flying the speeders and stuff,
the orange jumpsuit. Yeah, I have that. I have
a couple, I have a couple of other Jedi's and
different things and a couple of bounty hunters
and things. But they're really, I just love them.
Oh, I have an Anakin from episode three and an
Obi -Wan from episode three and the Anakin and
Obi -Wan are supposed to actually lock together.
When you take them out of the package, they'll
lock together like they're fighting and there's
like lava squirting up all around them. And I've
never actually taken it out of the package to
see how good it looks. Bob keeps asking me if
he can to do reviews, and I won't let him. But
as far as collecting, but other than that, like
my actual Star Wars collection, like I said,
Bob said we bought a bunch of episode two. We
have a bunch of prequel toys in package. We do.
He says they're mine, but they're just as much
his as they are mine. But the only other Star
Wars collection that I have is I have a lot of
the books that were written Starting in and I
can't remember the year. I want to say mid 90s
They started releasing what happened after episode
four five and six what happened following that
these books and I have To give you an example
of how far these books go they start the first
one. I have starts the day after Return of Jedi
or two days after returning Jedi and it goes
the ones I have go through Let's see Han and
Leia are married they have three kids and their
kids are Teenagers or young adults now. I know
the series goes on further than that But I don't
have I kind of stopped after a while. I I mean
what I really would like to do is sit down with
my with a with a Calendar or whatever it is and
and figure out what books I don't have and start
trying to find some of the ones I don't have
But I and I've read every one of them several
times in fact I would get a new one and I would
make myself go back to the beginning and start
at the beginning and read them all and Just read
them all in sequence again. I Did and there's
some I can quote you. Yeah, I've read them so
many times, but I Though I have all those books.
I have the original episodes one two and three
in I have one two three four five and six all
in books because when episode one came out they
released four variant covers of episode one in
book form I have all four covers I have um um
episode two episode three which let me tell you
when you read episode three in book form the
guy who wrote it did an excellent job And when
you read it, you know, people kind of make fun
of the way Hayden Christensen portrayed Anakin
Skywalker. My brother calls him the robot. And,
you know, they just didn't think he was a great
actor. He didn't pull it off. I read the book
before I saw the movie because the book came
out about six weeks before the movie or four
weeks before the movie. So I read the book first.
Right. So when I went in there, I was like the
gal in the corner with like boxes of Kleenexes
balling all the way. Because I read the book
and I knew what was going on in so much greater
detail that you just can't bring out in the movie.
You can't bring out the internal thoughts. All
you can do is have them look like they're constipated
on the screen and hope it gets the point across.
And there's so much more that's in those books
because they're based on the actual screenplays.
Yeah. And so as a result, they're real interesting
reads. But I like my book collection really,
really well. It sits in a prominent spot in my
living room, and I am completely proud of that.
I don't care who you are. You come over and make
fun of Star Wars. I'll be pissed. But that's
my big collection of things. I mean aside from
that. I'm a very voracious reader anyway So I
mean I have books everywhere all the time I have
boxes of books in this house My poor husband
cannot wait till we move and I can put all my
books in one room and get through the hell away
from him What's funny is I read all these Star
Wars books most of the books I read are romance
novels Except for my Star Wars Yeah, it's it
I just and and and this box of books from tour
that we got I I've already read two of the books
in it and I you know I picked up a third one
and I I'm I'm not sure about it yet I'm gonna
maybe look and see if something else sounds better
first It said I have already read a couple books
in there and I I enjoy science fiction periodically,
but I like I enjoy romance too, so No, I know
because Bob told me. I know that it was staged,
but that very first Forced Unleashed video, when
I saw that, I was like, oh my God, he's in trouble.
What? Oh, the one where I told him not to do
that? Yes. It was kind of staged because he told
me, he said, wouldn't it be funny if I said something
about opening this and you come say, I don't
think so. He was serious, but I He was joking
around, but I was dead serious. He kind of looked
at me and he blinked for a second before he said
anything like, holy crap, she really thinks I'm
going to open this. Hell hath no fury like a
woman scorned for Star Wars. Exactly. And I have
like odd Star Wars toys. People give me these
weird little things. I have an Obi -Wan Kenobi
watch from Avon in the box. Do I don't know where
somebody found it's actually really cool My mom
and dad got it for you for Christmas wasn't your
was it your parents who got it for me. It's really
cool it's really it's a nice leather strap and
and But I won't take it out of the box because
I don't want to break it because I tend to destroy
watches but it's it's Obi -Wan Kenobi and the
the lightsaber is the minute hand or the hour
hand I can't remember. Anyways, this lightsaber
blade and is the is the hand it's one of the
hands it's really just it sounds tacky as hell
but it's actually really cool looking i was really
surprised at how um and how cool it looked because
it just sounds tacky because there's so many
things i found as a star wars fan and i you know
if i see a little star wars thing here there
and i pick up stuff he just thinks god some of
this shit is so tacky Well, I mean, that's something
we'll get into here in a second after Bob tells
us what he collects, but that's the thing, it's
like, all these different franchises, no matter
what franchise it is, and you take any franchise,
whether it's Star Wars, whether it's Knight Rider,
whether it's, you know, Hee Haw, whatever, the
merchandising is out the ass because they, between
lunchboxes, watches, books, toys, video game,
all this stuff, it's like, It's a merchandising
empire. So what about you, Bob? What do you collect
these days? What I'm collecting right now? Let's
see. I was into Transformers there for a while.
I got into this kick right after the movies and
all that stuff that I found off the bottom of
Paul's reviews and stuff. I went to the store
and I picked one up and I was like, I haven't
touched a Transformer in so many years. And then
I wanted to get a couple of the jazzes, like
the animated jazz. A couple? Well, that's what
it started with. And then as my phone goes off.
And then I got the reissue jazz, the G1 version,
which I love because now it's like having the
old jazz back again. Like you were saying, Mike,
about having your childhood back. That was one
of my things and I scored it and then I started
getting the Prime figures and I really just lost
steam in those. I really just don't care about
Transformers anymore because this new fall of
Cybertron, the game that's out, I've watched
the reviews. Hasbro is just horrible and I'm
not even interested in it anymore. And then let's
see, on my second shelf down... Is my ghostbusters
the Maddie collector? Ghostbusters I don't I
stop myself. I didn't get 15 different repaints
to the same freaking figure I I got the four,
you know, and I got I got the Santa hats No,
I got the Comic -con version of Egon when it
came out a couple years ago. It was the slime
version of Egon that you can only get at Comic
Con. And then I got the slime version of Peter.
And then I got the Winston that's the slime blower
from episode two, or from the second movie. And
then I got Ray that is in the lab coat. And I'm
happy. And Paul actually sent me the bank Stay
Puft Marshmallow Man. And I had the PKE meter,
which stays in the box. I had just found the
Slimer at a yard sale. It's the real Ghostbusters
Slimer that you push his arm in and his mouth
opens and his eyes bug out. I was thrilled about
that. And then, I don't know, I got Michelangelo
from the 90s, from the 25th anniversary that
came out in the early 90s. I got that the classic
figure of that and I got two more coming. I actually
got April and Shredder still in package coming
to me. Hopefully because I we got the hook up
here in town. There's a classic toy company kind
of sort of they they can get you pretty much
any toy you want So they have a bunch of stuff.
They have like silver Hawk and and you know,
I can go up for hours about what all the toys
they have. Yeah And then we got what on the next
shelf down is like our Buffy Firefly kind of
collection. We have they're like ornaments. You
can't call it a collection. They were gifts.
Well, they were gifts, but they're collectible
gifts because they're not just random things
you can buy in a store pretty much anymore. Well,
this is true. They're like ornaments of Serenity
of the ship from Firefly and there's a regular
version in a Reaver version. I don't know if
any you know Mike you you don't watch that Firefly
do you long time since I've seen Firefly version
is from actually from the movie they make called
Serenity. Okay. Yeah short version they have
to hide and they disguise their ship to look
like a Reavers which Reavers are like the cannibalistic
crazy men live out in the booties and scare everybody
in eat everybody's face off and so they make
their ship look like that to hide from The numerous
bad guys that are chasing me down Right. Yeah,
and we got a bunch of that and we are Just Wheaton
signed DVD copy of Firefly And what you have
a couple spike figures don't yes Yeah, we got
I got to miss got me two spikes Yeah, I have
one of them is signed by the artist that created
it. I think yeah, I believe he's the artist who
created it that signed it and She got me that
as a as a gift a Few years ago, and I have so
I have two busts of spike Because I like spikes
she was an angel person so she'd buy herself
angel and if there was spikes she'd buy me a
spike Yeah, so I've got a couple of spikes. Well,
actually she was a Xander an angel, you know,
she left Xander but she liked angel and So I
got so when they she'd stumble across spikes
she'd get me a spike Because she went and still
does I believe go to a lot of the comic book
conventions and things I know those are done.
Those, Bob, you can take out a packaging review.
Oh, no, no, no. I wouldn't do that. I blame smile
time for me wanting a Puppet Angel. I actually
investigated Puppet Angel to see if there were
any that, you know, any toy company actually
ever made. There are, but... The problem is the
price tag on them. Oh, I'm sure they're horribly
expensive. I know the price tag is warranted
because of how they're made, and they have all
this articulation and everything else, but $400
for a Puppet Angel. We win the lottery, Bob.
We got to buy one of those for her. Oh, yeah.
That is a great episode. It's one of my favorites.
I think if we win the lottery, we'll just buy
like four or five of those and just give them
to all of our friends. We can have a YouTube
contest. There we go. Anyway, what's on the bottom
shelf? It's just a hodgepodge of stuff. I've
been finding weird stuff at yard sales lately.
Vintage classic WWE wrestlers. Like, the ones
that were big bricks of, like, just rubber. No
articulation, no movements at all. They're just
a big block of rubber. That looks like Hawk Hogan
or Macho Man Savage. I got a whole bunch of those.
What else? Oh, I got the... It's almost like
a LEGO version. DeLorean. And Doc Brown. Mini
-Mates, or whatever they were called. Yeah. Something
like that. I got some of the ghostbuster ones
of those too, but Yeah Yeah, and you have the
but with the kids now, um, and you have Batman
stuff too. Oh, yeah, I guess I got some Arkham
Arkham City Batman DC direct stuff. Um, but with
the kids like I was saying earlier Brandon our
son he's four. He really likes the Transformers
bot shots Yeah, so um, you know, it's kids and
him and my daughter were bashing them into each
other They're kind of out of it now But he also
likes the rescue bots. He still plays with those
Yeah, they're right up his alley. I mean he loves
heatwave and bumblebee and Optimist is the three
we have because you can't find any of them because
every time I go to the store You cannot find
rescue bots. I don't know if they just not making
them or they're just so many people are buying
them You can't find it. Well considering that
there's some of your more popular videos your
yeah ones I'm sure it's because people are buying
them. Oh, yeah, they got thousands of hits on
the reviews I did on YouTube or normal I get
a hundred, you know, it's like So people must
like them. And like I said, my son, he loves
them. Those simple transformers. Oh, yeah. And
they're perfect for little kids. And then what?
Chrissy's starting to collect Monster High dolls
that are a piece of crap because the legs fall
off. Thank you, Matty. Well, actually not Matty
Mattel. Yeah. OK. Right where her crotch is.
Her legs aren't on ball joints or anything. Remember
the old G .I. Joe's that had the nylon rope cord
thing in their stomachs? Their legs were actually
attached to their upper with that cord. That's
how their legs are put together. There's a cord
going from the left leg to the right leg and
then it slides up and in like her crotch would
open in the middle like there would be a front
and a back. And then it goes up into the leg
joints and then they seal it shut But the other
day hers actually popped out her or my daughter's
the legs on her one figure popped out and Didn't
you go and look on YouTube Candice about and
I guess it's a big problem with monster high
figure It's not that they pop out. It's that
the elastic in them actually breaks. Oh The elastic
in them will actually break ours didn't actually
break It just came out of her crotch. It came
out. Probably she was probably making the doll
do the splits or something. And it popped out.
But anyway, I paid $35 for a freaking doll that
the legs are popping off because of the cheap
nylon cord that they're putting them in. Instead
of using ball joints like normal people would.
Yes, but fortunately it took me I worked on it
for two days trying to fix it and I couldn't
do it and Chrissy didn't want to tell her dad
because she He she knew what a fit he would throw
when he saw that because I would just blame Maddie
the whole time I wouldn't get mad at her, you
know He was mad at her. So she didn't want to
tell anybody. I would have never got a matter
and then sadly You know, so she doesn't want
to tell dad so she's upset So I'm in the bedroom
trying to fix it and I can't get it and I'm like
Chris I don't know what we're gonna do and he
comes in he goes what are you doing in here and
He sees me with the doll Body in one hand legs
in the other I was like, what did you do to her
doll? And she's like I didn't do anything. It
was it just fell apart. And so Bob takes one
look at it Walks in the other room girl gets
a tool come back. Boom. Boom. Boom. It's fixed
I got a pair of needle -nose pliers, shoved it
in where the ball hinge would be in her leg,
and pried it open so her crotch actually came
apart, and then just slid the rope back up in
there. This all sounds so kinky and wrong right
now. But I'm just Monster High. I mean, everybody
seems like collecting it. But you know what?
Emgo's wife's doing reviews, and Pixel Dance
putting up reviews of Monster High. But you know
what? I was looking at online. Or not online.
I'm sorry. I was looking at him in the store.
You know, they have those make your own monster
sets Those aren't those aren't those elastic
strips Those are ball joints because you pop
those hips in because you can put different it's
you get a torso And you remember I told you the
first ones I saw they had one torso and two sets
of legs and two sets of arms the new ones now
have two torsos in them so you can make two characters
in one of those packages but I was looking at
them and the legs they pop in like they have
a kind of a ball joint thing and they just snap
in so they then those they're not doing them
that way because probably because you couldn't
assemble them that way if they were but because
the nylon rope break all the time yeah but Found
that real interesting. Yeah, that was something
I thought was quite a ripoff They have these
kits where you can make your own monster and
they had two heads two hair two sets of hair
two heads two arms two legs Shoot, you know all
that stuff. They have doubles of everything,
but they had one torso in those packages Wow
and and two outfits you could put multiple outfit
you had different outfits to choose from or mix
and match or whatever You had to buy two sets
to get two dolls and I thought and for like you
have four heads Yeah, and then you would have
like four heads and so it was I was like that
is such a ripoff And then I noticed when we went
and looked when she went to cash in that gift
card We were looking at him and I realized they
had two torsos in there now Maybe I don't know
if I saw some funky ones or if when they first
issued him They didn't only put one torso and
I don't know but they had two torsos in the new
ones Mike what? You'll be happy pixel Dan just
put up the video review of laser lot They have
such bad names man I I mean I watched he man
and I'm sure Candice watched it near cuz her
brother was into it their names are just They're
not they're just here here. Here's the sir bird
man. He looks like a bird on hold on Yes, a lot
of the names and masters the universe are are
weird, but the thing was sir laser lot is Mattel
wanted to homage the Create a Character contest
with this 30th anniversary line that is separate
from the 2012 subscription. And there is six
figures that are made, Sir Laser Lot, Drago Man,
Mighty Spector, and other ones I don't remember
the names of off the top of my head since I'm
not looking at the information. Sir Laser Lot
was Geoff Johns' figure that he created as a
kid. It's essentially Superman with He -Man muscles.
That's really all it is. Nice. But yeah, no.
I don't know. It's, you know, like I was saying
earlier, like all these franchises that we have
grown up on and loved, the merchandising is just
everywhere. It you know it just is and it's it's
amazing It reminds me of space balls the movie
space balls the towels baseballs the you know
The action figure space balls the blanket. Yeah
The toilet paper yeah, how many things can seriously
George Lucas put Star Wars on? I'm waiting for
Star Wars condoms myself. They have them. I've
seen them and it says, Luke, I am not your father.
And it's a picture of Darth Vader. They have
them. I have not seen those. Oh my God. I have
to have them. I'll find that picture for you
and send it to you on Facebook. Oh my God. Luke,
I am not your father or something like that.
I have to have that just for the novelty of it
because that's freaking funny. But seriously,
what are they going to have next? You know, like
Star Wars the... douche bottle or something who
knows what you know like I yeah I went I went
a little bit too far sorry it's just I don't
I don't know what where do you stop and where
do you start yeah I don't know but if you think
about it merchandising a lot of times they make
their money on the merchandising yeah also the
merchandising Star Wars has been is it been around
since 1977 Yeah. Okay. And didn't he sell a lot
of the movie just to keep the rights to the merchandising?
I don't know. Oh, there was some screwy thing
that he did that nobody ever got. He's like,
go ahead, take all the money you want from the
movie. I just want all the rights to the merchandise.
Yeah, he kept all the rights to merchandising,
which they didn't think would be an issue. They're
like, yeah, who's going to buy toys from a movie
that nobody's even going to go watch? No, it's
what I was gonna say was the thing about merchandise
is that movies been around since 1977 and I can
you know, that's 30 a Shoot That's 35 years.
It's been around a really long time So if you
think about the people who saw it and fell in
love with it 35 years ago are getting older now
So the the merchandising has shifted lot if you'll
you know it's not just focused I mean granted
this still merchandise it's focused for children
but the merchandise has also shifted to have
stuff like a Darth Vader condom that is focused
for the adult market for people who want to hang
on to their childhood who want to have those
memories who want to have that so there's a lot
more you know when I was a kid you would never
find an adult shirt that had Star Wars on it
It was all kids' clothes. Now, frick, you go
to any kind of tee place, any kind of t -shirt
place that's got, there's going to be Star Wars
t -shirts there for adults. 80s, tees, T -Fury,
all that stuff, yeah. And that's the thing, it's
like, well now, because we're all, you know,
all the children of the 80s are grown up, they
still want to cater to us because they know that
we love... What was out in our child? I mean,
you know same thing with Hollywood where you
know Hollywood recap tries to recapture stuff
that happened. You know you got total recall
coming out another You know remake of that you
got Oh God What else you know there was the Failed
attempt at a Knight Rider TV series reboot. You
know, there's there's all these things that that
has already happened that were great back then
and we you know we growing up with them loving
them and still love them now that they want to
you know hollywood non -stop wants to cash in
on another are some things that are done very
well you take uh... take tnt's dallas it's essentially
a continuation of the original series with you
know had a sense of ross and and jet instead
of having the battle be jr and bobby it's john
ross versus christopher uh... for for the main
story line but you still have larry hagman there
even though you know he looks he is anxious all
hell you know you still have here me his eyebrows
scare me jerry i have nightmares about those
eyebrows man but i mean you know you know you
have successes like that but half the time when
hollywood does something to me like when they
do something in my eyes that Is trying to recapture
the 80s it just doesn't Sometimes it's like with
the new ninja turtles. Um, you know It's like
they've tried and tried and tried but they're
kind of going back They just to look at him is
kind of the classic look and stuff. It's gonna
get people that are our age Back in the ninja
turtles. I'm already got the bug. I cannot wait
to those things come out Yeah, and not the class.
I help me but the new ones they're only eight
dollars apiece. Yeah Get off my back. Well, the
new ones with the new animated series. But they
look awesome. Yeah, they do. They do. And the
classic Turtles look great as well. Playmates
knows how to do it. They've had the Turtles license
for years, and they know how to do Turtles figures.
And sure, there have been some really, really
wacky Turtles figures over the years. But with
the new animated series coming up, I know some
people aren't going to like the animation style.
That's all well and good. But I mean. You know,
you've got... It's gotta be better than, uh,
um, Thundercats did. Cause that was horrible.
I... I like Thundercats for what it was. I just
think it was just mishandled. uh... yeah uh...
it was so mishandled because and it wasn't the
one of the reasons why i was mishandled because
band i just completely dropped the bullet okay
so it's not a horrible to you know i i will say
you know a bunch of negative stuff on logistics
of of matty collector and and did you ever but
i can't say anything against scott toy guru nightly
and his promotion of that line of what what they
are making for Masters Classics because that
dude is PR -ing the hell out of that line. He's
always giving us updates on the Mattel Online
toy lines, all that stuff. Bandai, you ask them
just a general question of, hey, can you give
us a preview of what's coming up with Thundercats?
And they just say, we're not allowed to discuss
that at that time. Or make a mum -raw that actually
stands upright by himself. Right, yeah. I mean,
it was just - Oh, that's another thing. With
the dolls right now? Yeah. Like, Chrissy's Monster
High dolls, and - Her Winx Club. And her Winx
Club doll? Yeah. Which is her new thing. She's
probably gonna want to get all of those damn
things. Yeah. Anyway, um, none of them will stand
on their own. Yeah. The Monster High ones actually
come with stands to snap onto their waists. Right.
So they can stand up. But they don't, of course,
Bob made a comment when we were talking about
it. He said, you know, none of these dolls stand.
I said, I know they don't. And he goes, but you
know, Barbies don't stand. I said, this is true,
but Barbies came with stands too. They had, most
Barbies came with some kind of, it was basically
a shin clamp stand thing that you put Barbie
in and it clamped around the back of her shin
and it would hold her up. Yeah, most of the time
it also was a great projectile to throw at your
brother when he was bothering him your plan Well,
you know you mentioned earlier that you had a
lot of the gem dolls as well and even those are
making a comeback now I have not seen new gem
dolls. Yeah, it was 100 wasn't it 150 bucks it
it was $125 That's right, you told me that there
was the new one yeah Yeah, she had I don't even
remember seeing it. I Don't think you ever showed
it to me. I think you just told me about it Yeah,
I didn't know if you'd even want to see it. You're
normally I'd want to see But you know the old
dolls cracked me up because the gem dolls in
the old ones When she was in her regular, what
was her name Jenna? When she was Jerika, she
had a short blonde bob that stopped just below
her chin. When she was Jim, she had this long
pink hair. Well, the dolls crack me up. Even
as a kid, I thought this was hysterical. That,
you know, they make her go, Oh, look, Jim looks
so pretty. They have this little patch of hair
on top of her head that was pink. You were supposed
to like roll up and tuck into her hat when she
was Jerika. And when she was Jim. You pulled
the hat off, and it fell over the hat, and it
only covered about half the hair. So you can
see the shorter hair underneath. In the ads,
it all was big and full. And I'm like, it's not
that full. I remember being very disappointed
with that. I thought that was just cheesy beyond
belief. Even Chrissy's like, why is this other
layer here, Mom? I'm like, that's the gem hair.
Yeah, that's the thing about it. It's just so
out there. I don't know. Candice. What, baby?
Did you click that link right there where it
says the Jim and hologram one that he sent? Well,
no, because I haven't been allowed to touch my
keyboard. Well, you need to see it, because look
where the stand is. I'm afraid. Should I be afraid?
Oh, I forgot about that. Yeah, I just want to
say I want to. I want the gut reaction. I want
to hear everybody has to... Oh my god! Yes! What?
What? It's gem in the camel toes. But yeah, for
people at home listening, the stand comes right
in between your legs and it's a U -shaped right
in her hoo -ha. It's a cross stand! Yeah, it's
right in her hoo -ha. $125 for that the face
of the doll is really pretty the hair is cute.
Would you pay $125 for that Candice? Breck no,
I could make a Barbie look like that Because
she looks like a Barbie. I'm sorry. She looks
like a Barbie, but she doesn't have a microphone
Where's your star on her neck or no her earrings?
It was her earrings. Yeah. Yeah, and the original
dogs She had a battery first image you know you
had a battery in the back that the lights they
would actually blank you could put it on and
off you know that they're on a blank i i don't
know yet this is just solely rocker james so
you're not gonna have the hair issue of having
jerek is here underneath that pink hair this
is specifically the jim dole this isn't and as
i was saying before i've seen all the shows were
that held issue where that because i don't remember
that out that ever well no i mean it's an updated
version yeah the edge right but you know this
is james madonna they don't know if they're gonna
make more of them uh... you know they might but
you just don't know uh... sits the fifty -year
-old jim dole That's what it is about her face.
She looks, her face really is shaped just like
a Barbie. I mean, the face, the eye makeup, I
had Barbies that had head eye makeup just like
that. I mean, it's not terribly impressive as
far as originality. One of the things that the
gym calls is Mattel. Oh, so, and this is what
Hasbro? No, this is Integrity Toys. Yeah. Oh,
this is a third party toy company. But the Barbies,
I mean, looking at this picture, I'd have to
see it in person to know, but like the thing
about the Gem Dolls is those were, you know,
Barbie was, is, I want to say eight and a half
inches tall, I think. And the Gem Dolls were
12 inches. They were bigger. So like you had
to buy clothes just for Jim. That's why I had
all the gym clothes from all the episodes Oh,
so you can Barbie clothes Barbie clothes on her
I had to have the gym clothes because her body
was too big seeing us boys wouldn't know that
kind of stuff Yeah, she was a much bigger doll
then then and her shoe her feet were huge her
shoes were huge I mean she her all of her clothes
and all that was a lot bigger because she couldn't
wear any of the Barbie stuff In fact, I used
to take some of the gem clothes and put them
on Barbie and like safety pin them to try and
make them look right because they would be so
much bigger than They would be so I think I take
that back I think gem could wear some of the
Ken clothes like the jackets and stuff Hello
Yeah, oh for a second. I thought I lost you guys
no Sorry, but I think like I used to like it
because in the 80s, you know girls wore dinner
jackets and stuff I would let my gem dolls wear
like my Ken jackets and stuff but Yeah, Ken is
truly a girl's toy Yes, he is as perfectly illustrated
in Toy Story 3 but Regardless, you know, she
was so much bigger and people don't realize didn't
realize that I don't think While she's pretty
and she's definitely got the gem hair going on,
she looks like a Barbie doll. I could probably
dye one of my blonde Barbies and cut the hair
to look like that. But she has articulated wrists
and I don't think Barbie had those. No, Barbie
never had articulated wrists. She did not. I
think Integrity is going to try to see what those
sold for and to see if they're worth putting
out the money to make more The gym dolls Everything
is making a comeback, you know, pretty much the
whole hub network is killing us with with comeback
stuff But that's not a bad thing though. Well,
no not at all. I I'm so happy that they're gonna
play, you know Armada and or no not Armada animated.
Yeah, cuz I I missed it completely I missed that
whole see I never watched a show except for on
YouTube. I watched a couple But I've never actually
watched all of them. And now I get a chance to
actually see him because, you know, I was out
of high school. I transformed was the last thing
on my mind. I completely missed it all. So now
I'm happy to actually get to see it. Thanks to
the hub and bringing back our childhood or killing
it one or the other. Well, I'll wait till the
movie comes out of the turtles. Oh, God, don't
even. I was joking. I was joking. Don't you like
the alien version of them? Just don't even go
there. I mean, it's it's one of those things
where you just don't know what they're what they're
going to do. And he's he's only his company's
only producing the damn thing. He's not the director.
So he doesn't have the final say. So I don't
think it'll be as bad as everything else. But
it's just some people are the worst at PR. You
know, just the way stuff is worded. That's really
what the problem is. It's not you know sure you
know and that's the thing you know you get someone
at a convention whether it's SDCC whether it's
with her world whether it's C2e2 whether it's
NYCC it doesn't matter you get someone making
an announcement like that about hey Here's a
here. Here's a teaser a preview you're going
to take it at face value and for those die -hard
fans that may not like the fact that Our turtles
are gonna be alien You know, you're gonna have
those lash outs and all that stuff. So same way
you did with the transformers Everybody's like,
oh you killed off jazz in the first movie. Okay,
you know, it's it's a new thing, you know get
over it It's if everybody rehashes stuff, but
if everybody rehashes stuff there and do that
Bob because I have listened to you bitch insanely
over That anyway, and we're going to continue
this discussion next week because we're gonna
get into and dissect Bob's Affection for jazz
so we will catch you guys next week and and his
wonderful love of the you know hatred of the
Batman reboot Next week's gonna be fun, so we'll
see you guys then I hate how fake Hollywood is
