TeamBotimus Variety Hour
Ghostbusters Action Figure Line and Hot Toys Joker Review

About this Episode
Hey, Tara Strong here, and you're listening to
the Geekcast Radio Network. This is Starscream,
and you are watching Optimus! Yes you are! he
is from california so all californians he's from
california i didn't say he moved to california
cause i moved to california so i have a little
bit of a there's a little bit of a difference
there you moved to california i have a transplant
baby i have a cushion oh god i'm such a moron
Post I post that I'm like since I didn't post
the link earlier Here's my video of my updated
fish tank, and then I didn't even put the damn
video I've been I've been seriously running around
crazy all day today It's it's I mean ever since
this morning. I mean I got up at I slept in a
little bit because I was having such a Terrible
terrible night sleeping because fucking what's
Luna does not it's it's hard to sleep with a
kitten Because I move around a lot and if I roll
on her I kill her You know so and Exactly, so
I feel bad. So I mean I'm constantly in a state
where I'm I'll go to bed where I'm in a comfortable
position, but you know usually what you know
through the course of the night I'll You know
moving to something else. You know position wise
where I'm comfortable And you know I'll continue
sleeping like that no problem the problem is
with her. I can't move So it's like I'm perpetually
in a state of like half sleep half awake where
I realize that I'm asleep But I'm uncomfortable
in the position that I'm in and I have to consciously
not move, so I don't get a very Restful sleep,
and it's then don't have her sleep with you.
There's the only it's the only thing that we
can really do because Burger still has not taken
too well to her So I mean the other cats are
perfectly fine Gracie and Louie have no problem
with her at all, but burger is like Terrified
of this little one and a half pound thing who
is currently trying to destroy my extra whiteboards
here play with play with the gray one play with
the gray one you can play with that one but um
so oh god i so dealing with that i woke up this
morning and i i tried to lay down and go back
to sleep and i slept till about nine o 'clock
got up started getting ready and everything then
i had to drive to industry which is just outside
la so it's like 45 minutes away so i could get
the my couple hot toy figures um uh before all
that I I went to Toys R Us and I got I actually
got the uh a Stone Cold Steve Austin figure it's
the uh defining moments Stone Cold I don't know
I don't know Bob if you're familiar with it's
the one where he's wearing the camo jacket yes
sir you know I uh I saw that today and I picked
that up because I'm a Stone Cold Steve Austin
slut did you uh did you get Joker? Yes, I got
Joker sweet. I can't wait to see a good review
of it. Oh, it's I I was playing with it while
I was I was there picking it up and Because the
the guy bought it from had like an extra one
Just hanging out out of the package. I was playing
with it, and it's it's creepy how awesome it
looks Oh, yeah, the accessories are awesome looking
on it from the reviews I saw the only accessory
that I have an issue with really that It doesn't
come with is I would have loved it if he came
with a pair of glasses. Ah, yeah. You know the
scene at the end of the movie where he puts the
money? He's like, you want to hit a guy with
glasses, would you? Yeah. Yeah, but. I would
have loved that. It comes with so much already.
I mean, not having that one accessory is nothing
compared to having a. It's nitpicky, but this
is a hot toy figure. That's $240. But the outfit
is the final battle, so you think he would have
the glasses for that scene, because the outfit
fits that scene. Exactly. I mean, it would make
more sense, but I mean, I'm not too... Alright,
so you're saying you would rather have... Instead
of having a like a second or a third or a fourth
set of hands you want the glasses instead of
a third or fourth Here's the thing here. Look,
okay I understand what you're saying, but put
it this way the Joker and the Batman come with
the same amount of hands But Batman comes with
two additional magnetic faces that Joker doesn't
come with Okay, so you could have put in the
glasses for a figure. That's ten dollars more
than the Batman Yeah, and then they would have
raised the price $20 more probably than what
it are Hey, you guys want glasses guess what
each lens is gonna cost you ten bucks extra additional
I Haven't even opened it yet. I'm on I'm actually
opening it right now Or they can just send you
a pair that's painted to glow in the dark Well,
no, because then it'll be $30 extra, $10 for
each lens, and another $10 for the glow in the
dark action. It'll take eight months to get them
to you. Yeah, exactly. Oh, yeah. Oh, tissue paper.
Get rid of the tissue paper. Oh, man. I got to
admit, I actually did watch Sean's video, well,
part of it, of the Joker. You know, there's some
interesting stuff that he brought up that I do
find it interesting, like the fact that the actual
body has this kind of foam around them to kind
of bulk him up. Yeah, that makes it fat. Yeah,
which is really kind of... That's an interesting
touch. I mean, it's hot toys, so you would expect
them to pay attention to kind of stuff like that,
but... You know, the other thing that kind of
annoyed me was... And I'm trying to remember
I could be wrong, but I don't think I am he he
said that the the Actually, maybe it is that
I don't I don't I don't remember exactly no he
didn't okay The the mask there's a little mask
that the Joker comes with Right the gas mask
the gas mask and Sean said that that was what
he used during the you know The end scene where
you know that they were gassing the public Joker
didn't wear a mask then And he did. That's the
mask that he had when he was at the restaurant
with Vicky Bale that he had inside the package.
That he handed her. I don't think Joker ever
wore a mask. Even at the end when he was gassing
everything. I don't think he wore a mask. He
did. He wore it in the restaurant. He did not
wear it in the restaurant because in the restaurant
the gas was already clear. Yeah, in the restaurant,
it was her that had it. But I think he had it
at the end of the movie because all the henchmen
had him. Yeah, but he's already... I don't know.
I'm gonna look it up. It doesn't fucking matter.
I'm curious. We're not here to talk about that
shit. We're here to talk about the stupid Maddie
Collector Ghostbusters bullshit. I don't give
a shit. You're the one that said you wanted to
rant about it. And you know, I'm not as pissed
off now as I was. Honestly though, I'm assuming
you're recording. He's fucking hours and he's
not even gonna rant about it. No, I'm going to.
I'm assuming you're already recording, so I'll
just get into it. So, you know, to give a little
people backstory, 2012 was supposed to be a subscription
year. for MaddieCollector .com's Ghostbuster
line. It was cancelled before the actual year
started. They cancelled it. There was only announced
four figures. And I can't... Dana Azul, The Rookie
Ghost, and... The Rookie Ghost, which wasn't
even supposed to be one of the figures. That
was supposed to be the subscription figure. Right,
that was supposed to be free for us. Wasn't it
Ray and Marshmallow or whatever? No, no, no,
no. Or was that the year before? That was still
the year before. And there's one more that is
going to be announced apparently at San Diego
Comic Con for later this year. That's going to
come out. Those were the only four figures that
they were going to make for the subscription.
Back before the year turned, you know, to 2012,
they cancelled the line. Um, eventually citing
the fact that there was just not enough sales
for it. Which, to this day still pisses me off
because they kept pushing the DC Infinite whatever,
um, thing up the ass. They kept pushing that
up the ass for people to buy it. And here's the
thing, those figures are, you know, those are
all like new figures and you know, nobody's gotten
them before and everything. Yet, they couldn't
do the same thing for Ghostbusters. Now, whatever.
You know, the Ghostbuster thing, they try - Mattel
basically tried to use the same fucking - Um,
see, now I'm starting to get aggravated again.
They - They started - They - They - They started
using the same fucking mentality with the Ghostbusters
line that they were using with He -Man, and what
they have used with He -Man since the 80s, and
that's reusing parts for things. That works for
only a little bit. After a while, it becomes
obnoxious, and you don't want the - damn figures
anymore you know so once you get like the first
four ghostbusters you don't need a slime version
of it i mean it's just it's just repaint after
repaint and you know that's why i never got a
subscription because i just bought the ones i
wanted and why do i need 14 different figures
of the just different heads and in hindsight
you i mean even let's say hypothetically they
didn't even cancel the subscription you know
i was never all that thrilled about the rookie
ghost anyhow i got it i actually did buy it Uh,
why? I have no fucking idea. Just because, honestly,
just because it's, you know, it's the completionist
in me, I suppose, but that's a waste of a figure.
You know, so, so, so all that, all that happened,
and they cancelled the line, and everybody was
upset. So what Maddie Collector said months ago,
months and months, back like November, or whatever,
whenever they cancelled, I don't remember exactly
when it was. They said that they would you know,
they feel for us. They're sorry There just wasn't
sales blah blah blah the fan base really isn't
there so on and so forth But to show our appreciation
we're gonna give you a special. Thank you Which
they have been dragging out Ever since it was
announced that it was canceled. Yeah, and everybody
and they said a figure they didn't say Well,
they initially said it was gonna be well And
technically, it still kind of is. Well, no, it's
an exception. Well... Kind of, sorta... I mean,
it's... We'll get into that when we announce
what it is. But, one thing that they kept, you
know, they kept teasing and saying it's not going
to be a newly tooled figure. It's not going to
be anything new. There's just, uh... I'm sorry,
Luna's trying to get behind my desk. Don't play
with something. Here, here's a string. Play with
a string. Here's... tissue paper playing that.
Um, you know, they, um, they're like, it's not
going to be a newly tooled figure, we don't have
the money to do newly tooled stuff, which is
why they said that they had to constantly keep
reusing things because the money wasn't there
to warrant newly tooled items. I'm sorry, but
90 % of the He -Man stuff is reused shit. That's
all it is you get a new head every now and then
and you get a new weapon whoop the frickin do
okay? So anyhow always I just I just want to
say this because this is so fucking stupid. They're
like We're sorry, we're not making the real Ghostbuster
cartoon figures because it would be a 100 % new
tool. Are you fucking kidding me? Well, they
didn't want - All you gotta do is - They didn't
want to do that. I know what you're gonna say,
just repaint? All you gotta fucking do is repaint
the goddamn current figures and put new heads
on them. Honestly, I wouldn't want that. Because
- I know, I know. That's not how they should
look. Right, I know. It's about that. Now, Luna,
go. So they constantly kept, you know, dancing
around the subject of what it is, what it is,
we can't announce what it is, it's not ready
yet, blah, blah, blah. Yes, was it yesterday?
A couple days ago. Yesterday, the day before.
At the point of the time that this goes up, it'll
be about a week. Okay. Well, let's just, it was
the 23rd of May, I believe. Yeah. They sent out
an email, they sent out an email, and... Announcing
what the thank you is. The thank you, which has
taken months and months and months and months
and months to do. They couldn't announce it because
it wasn't ready. They could not announce it.
Let me emphasize this enough. They could not
announce it because it wasn't ready. All it is,
is a glow in the dark repaint of Slimer. That's
it. the slimer that came with the san diego comic
con uh... he got on you know was available at
for the first time at single comic con san diego
comic con but that was subsequently added to
many classes website you could buy it that way
or right but what you know and they're like you
know it hasn't been used since two thousand line
two thousand nine which is bullshit because it
was eventually used in the four -pack of the
Ghostbusters 2 repaints that was a Toys R Us
exclusive. Yeah, I was just gonna say it's the
same figure. It's the exact same Slimer, except
this one is glow -in -the -dark. Well, it took
them this long to tell us that? I just posted
the picture that they sent, you know, and it
says it takes 12 to 6 months to develop a toy.
And, so it's taking them that long just to paint
them glow in the dark? It doesn't make any sense.
That's because they're bullshitting us. But they
already have the mold and everything, how hard
is it to get it? There's nothing they have to
do different, except for change the material,
and as long as it's not some white fucking foamy
shit that's gonna turn yellow from piss, it shouldn't
be that complicated to use glow in the dark plastic,
which they've already done. For a couple I mean
if I'm not mistaken there was a stand a stand
that was glow -in -the -dark and Then there was
a the Ghostbuster logo that was like a three
-dimensional logo right yeah the ghost the ghost
or whatever Yeah, exactly the ghost the ghost
for that was uh was glow -in -the -dark So yeah,
it takes months and months and months upwards
to eight months to develop something that they
already have the molding. What's that? 12 to
16. 12 to 16. It actually says I'm out of here.
Oh, okay, I apologize. 12 to 16 months to develop
something, which, okay, now we look at that 12
to 16, so a year, let's just say, let's say,
best case scenario, it's taken a year to develop
this, which I've known, it takes a year to a
year and a half to even develop Transformer toys.
Right. That means they knew... back in May of
2011, that they were gonna cancel this line.
Right. And then in June or July, whenever San
Diego Comic -Con was, they had the push for the
new 2012 subscriptions. That's when they opened
them up at San Diego Comic -Con. Right. So two
months later... And see, that's what doesn't
make any sense to me. That's because it's Maddie
Collector. I know, I know. All right, well, logistics
of Maddie Collector being Maddie Collector aside...
That's what makes no fucking sense to me whatsoever.
They're like, okay, here's what we're gonna do
with DC Universe. We're gonna put all the main
characters that all the kids know in the stores.
So Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman. We're gonna
put all those and all their respective repaints
in the stores for the kids. All of the... collector
quote unquote collector figure or fan figures
we're gonna put in this online club subscription
but we have to reach our quota in order for this
to even happen right they got what 60 percent
right of their quota for subscriptions for dc
universe and they said if it if we don't meet
it it it wasn't that they worded it where oh
if we only get 60 no they said if we do not meet
100 it's not even gonna happen of our sales quote,
it won't fucking happen. Well, guess what? As
you just said, they made the push, the push,
the push, the push, the push. They kept putting
it off, putting it off, putting it off, giving
people more fucking time to decide whether they
wanted to do DCUC or Club Infinite Earth or whatever
the fuck it's called. And then a week after that
shit happened, they're like, oh, hey, guess what?
Ghostbusters fans, we're going to slime ball
you and cancel your first week's subscriptions.
And you're absolutely right. That happened a
week ago. It happened like a week after it. I
posted this on MaddieCollector .com. This is
my honest personal opinion that when this started,
this started in 2010, around then and through
2011, there was a lot of rumor from a certain
Dan Aykroyd that a third movie was going to be
made based... entirely on the success of the
Ghostbuster video game. My opinion is this, that
Mattel was banking on the fact that there was
gonna be a third Ghostbuster movie, they bought
the license, they started producing stuff, thinking
that at some point in time, fairly soon, there
was gonna be a Ghostbuster movie. And now, it's
pretty much killed off, the idea is pretty much
killed off. And... And now, they're canceling
the line. Yeah. Recently, as of about a week
ago as this airs, there was an interview posted
on TFW2005 with Ernie Hudson asking him about
Transformers stuff and how cool it is to work
on Prime and all that stuff. the interviewer,
because it's one of those. And this is why I
do actual voice audio recorded interviews, because
I prefer to actually talk to the person and let
people hear the person's answers versus recording
a phone call and then transcribing and making
people read. I hate written interviews. I just
don't like them. But the transcription said,
Whoever was conducting the interview, I don't
know, I don't have the information in front of
me. I was like, I would be remiss not to ask
this of you since we've got you here. Do you
have any information or anything to pass along
to us about Ghostbusters 3, and are you involved?
Ernie was like, his answer was something to the
effect of, and again, I don't have the interview
in front of me, so I'm just basing this off of
what I read, or my memory of what I read. He
said something in the effect of, I know they're
working on it. I know Dan and everybody really
wants to get it off the ground. As of right now,
I have not been contacted for any involvement
whatsoever, so I really can't give you any insider
information. Sorry. It's not going to happen.
If they're not working on it fine, if they're
not fine, I'm passed. I love Ghostbusters 1 and
2. I always have and I always will. Honestly,
at this point, With all the actors being the
age that they are and wanting to, you know, maintain
some resemblance of continuity and all that stuff,
I prefer there not be a third movie just for
the sake of having a third movie. And I know
Ackeroid and Ramis would do it justice. I'm not
saying that I don't want it because of what the
contents of it might be. I'm just tired of Hollywood
in general. Oh, hey. It's 2012, we need to make
a sequel to a film that came out in 84 or a threequel
or a fourquel or whatever the hell. As long as
it's not a reboot, as long as they don't take
Ghostbusters and reboot it, then I won't care.
That's what all these new movies are. All these
new movies are coming out and they're all reboots,
which pretty much sucks. The fact that Ackroyd
and Harold Ramis, even Ivan Reitman, They all
wanna be involved in this. Ernie Hudson, everybody
wants to get involved. I mean, Jesus, when you're
sitting there and you're talking about icons,
Rick Moranis has even said that he may potentially
come out of retirement to do something with this.
I mean, it's been back and forth with him for
years with it, but I honestly think he would
probably do it. I mean, everybody wants to come
back and do this, with the exception of one person.
And that one person, Bill Murray, is screwing
up the whole thing. I honestly think that's what
it is. Well, it's not even that he's screwing
up the whole thing. He has said he doesn't want
to come back, and that's fine. That's on him.
And there are ways around that. I mean, there
are plenty of ways around that. I mean, I'm sure,
you know... There aren't a lot of ways around
it because the biggest problem is those three
guys own the rights to the movie. So unless Bill
Murray says okay, it's not going to happen. What
I'm saying is not... not so much as the rights
of getting the movie made i'm saying as far as
like story wise for a if a movie was getting
was already a story wise there's a million ways
around that you could write about you could say
hey pizza you know retire the you know whatever
uh... you know Logistically, I don't know but
back to the mani -collector bullshit. I'm sorry.
This is not a thing I think I think I think Bob
wanted to chime in with something Well, no, I
was just gonna say that he said somewhere what
he wanted to come back only if he was dead Yeah,
yeah. Yeah, and then cool. I think he's blowing
smoke up I think they have something in the works,
but they're not talking about it and it's all
like PR, you know, it's like, I think there's
behind the scenes stuff going on that they're
not talking about. It's to get fans like us to
talk about it. Possibly. Possibly. I mean, because
if you follow Dan Aykroyd on Twitter, he actually
went to New York to follow Bill Murray to try
to get him and pin him down to yes or no. And
it was a big thing on Twitter on Dan Aykroyd's
Twitter about finding Bill Murray and confronting
him and making him Yes, I will do the movie and
then nothing was ever said but there was actually
post and stuff I actually you know if you follow
him on Twitter and you can go back through and
look at this But he was actually gonna follow
Bill Murray and to New York and and try to pin
him down So I think there's something going on.
That's very possible. It's very talking about
you know bringing in like you know all the new
guys To like hand the torch over to keep it going.
Yeah You know, there's so many rumors but anyway
back to Maddie like you guys were saying I Got
extremely pissed off yesterday when I saw about
the Dana Barrett And it's not posable at all
the leg you know articulation. No, I didn't know
that because I thought it was a dress I didn't
know it was actually molded to her legs and you
cannot move her legs I didn't know that until
I saw the review for Maddie themselves, you know
little guy Nerd guy standing there trying to
you know show the the video of him, you know
changing out the legs and no there's no articulation
because it would cost too much to make a material
dress so they just molded it on instead of just
giving us one set of legs that you could bend
to have her sit down and that make her stand
up They gave us two sets of legs. Yeah, just
to make the dress better Yeah Yeah Well, why
can't they just make one good set of legs that
actually bend so you can have her sitting and
then have her stand up? You think it'd be more
cost -effective just to make one set of? Posable
legs you would think so, but again, this is Maddie
click, you know, I mean They're like, you know,
this is a whole new tool thing blah blah blah.
It was expensive I'm like I was going to say
cost -effective and matty collector in the same
sentence do not mix Like like back to the slimer
figure on the post They actually says this figure
is still in production and we expect it to ship
an early fourth quarter Yes, it really takes
help to make a toy the cost of shipping your
slimer will be a hundred percent paid for by
us We will send you instructions on how to get
yours, but you know It doesn't say anything about
shipping The shipping is included it is it is
included they're paying they're paying for everything
they're flipping the whole bill on this but I
Mean the only people that are getting it are
people that signed up for it and then had it
cancelled, right? It says it even says they do
not be available anywhere at any time Yeah And
then it's so stupid. How hard is it to get Glow
in the Dark paint and just paint the one you
have already? There's been people on the Matty
forums that are like, you know, this is stupid.
I've already painted mine. Yeah, yeah. You know,
because it really isn't that hard. You could
go down to fucking Michael's, or whatever kind
of stores are out there for you guys. Yeah, you
go to the art store, yeah. Go to the art store
and you can buy Glow in the Dark paint and boom!
Glow in the Dark. What aggravates me is that
this is the fourth Slimer that we've actually
gotten this the first one came out with the San
Diego Comic Con Egon and then subsequently later
on the second one was the four pack or the five
pack if you want to count slimmers, you know
for those busters too then I Don't remember who
it was. I think it was the slimed slimed E or
slimed Peter Yeah, Peter figure came out with
one that had his tongue hanging out. Yeah, and
now we're getting this one So it's it's the same
shit different day with Maddie collector They're
just giving us the same thing even with like
when they when they did the ready to believe
you Egon and that library ghost I'm so stoking
that but no legs and You know ready to believe
you Peter with the the taxi cab ghost. It's only
half a ghost. Yeah It's just like it's a rip.
I can I can kind of stretch my imagination on
the library ghost in a taxi cab goes just because
We didn't really see their legs Yeah, you know
the taxi cab goes you just saw his torso right
I mean you would assume that there's legs down
there or something you know same thing the same
thing with the library ghost I mean when we saw
her before she went all psycho looking you know
she was a full -length Vaporous apparition is
as Ray describes her you know I still I mean
she was still kind of hovering there I didn't
specifically see feet, but you could see like
a long dress and then when she went all psycho
yeah You know then that was a close -up from
you know from the tits up, and that's basically
all it was you know so I can Kind of stretch
my imagination on it and give a little bit of
leeway but not a hell of a lot. They could have
done the other Scaleri brother, you know, instead
of, you know, Slimer, do something, you know,
a ghost or something. That's the rumor that's
out there right now that the fourth figure that
we'll be getting later this year will be the
other Scaleri brother with one of the courtroom
figures. One of the court, you know, I mean,
we've already gotten Courtroom Peter. Well, no,
not even the judge. That would be a whole remember.
That would be a completely new figure. Oh, yeah,
yeah. So it'd just be like Peter Venkman body
with like Egon's head on it or something. Egon's
head and a repainted tie on the body, and they're
going to slap Rey's name on there. Which is still
Walter Peck's body just repainted. Yeah, exactly.
Hi, Luna. The other thing that pisses me off
about how they treated the Ghostbusters line
is they're complaining about not getting enough
subscriptions for shit. But yet, next year, and
Paul and I talked about this briefly in episode
19, of dramatic price increases. Oh, yeah. Yet
you cancel a line that a lot of people, or you
cancel a subscription to a line that a lot of
people still like and still want the figures
for. That's the thing. Well, here's the thing,
though. I mean, I said this way back when. It's
stupid. You're complaining about not getting
money. from this so you cancel something that's
going to lock people into constantly buying these
things from you no matter what so I got the option
to not buy the shit that I didn't want to buy
I didn't want the taxi cab ghost so I didn't
buy that figure now it was gonna I mean I was
gonna have to buy it but didn't have to because
they cancelled it so that takes away guaranteed
sales for them yep It makes no sense, you know
the the the rookie I really didn't want although
I ended up buying it again I still don't know
why I did For the you know for the views you
bought it to get the view I Opened it up. I didn't
even review it. Did you get Vigo? Yeah, I got
Vigo. I got Vigo It's not it's not it's not the
best but it's not terrible What's the Dana? I
mean, it doesn't even look like like so corny
Weaver at all. It looks like Elaine Venice from
Seinfeld Here's the thing that you know, I kind
of learned from actually NECA like for example
wrote their RoboCop figure I was like I messaged
him. I said this this thing looks incredible
You know, can we get a or are we going to get
a? Helmet list version of him in the future because
NECA does a lot of repainting stuff And you know,
you know, the battle damage one is coming out,
or is already out. And I said, will that be helmetless?
Because in the movie, you know, during that whole
scene when he's battle damaged, he's not wearing
his helmet. It's just Murphy that you see. And
they said, no, unfortunately, we don't have the
license for Peter Weller's face. And I'm like,
what are you talking about? Like, it looks like
him. He's like, That's that's because from from
the nose down You we can get away with it Having
to pay a licensing fee right to the Weller Estate
or whatever, you know, um, you know to do it.
It's it's close But not close enough They may
they they might have the the you know, Maddie
collector may have the rights to Dana Barrett
and and Zool Well, it's Dana, but it's not so,
you know but they may not have the licensing
rights from Sigourney Weaver, which then when
it comes down to it, you have to tweak how she
looks, so it's not exactly the same. Same possible
problem with Vigo. The biggest problem, I can't
remember the guy's name, but the guy who played
Vigo is dead. Yeah. So, ah, Luna, I swear to
God, you need to learn how to jump and not claw.
It's a cute little baby though, you're lucky.
Okay, anyway. You know, so that's probably...
I don't know for sure, but that's a definite
possibility. I'm not excusing the fact that the
figure is, you know, it pisses me off that there's
a standing version and there's a sitting version.
I wish they would have just, like you said Bob,
made her articulated to the point where you could
put her in a sitting pose by yourself. Right,
but then the dress isn't... like me and my wife
had a talk about this and if they made a... You
know like a material dress kind of thing almost
like a Barbie doll clothing It wouldn't have
that quality wouldn't have a shine to it. It
probably wouldn't look as good as what it does
now So I can kind of understand why they did
it but it's just they always talk about money
and cost effectiveness and right well, and you
know, it's Their biggest thing is their biggest
thing is they don't their thought like I said,
they had to have gotten this Thinking that the
fan base was going to be bigger Than what it
already I mean they already knew what the fan
base was there was already existing fan base
I honestly think that they expected the fan base
to explode even more because of a potential movie
That ended up never happening, but I think because
of that they're screwed as a collector Okay,
I'd be willing to pay $30 for something. I actually
want You know like the the original ghostbusters
and they're selling it for 20 bucks Yeah, you
know i'd be willing to pay a little bit more
for better Not just repaints and this you know
different handle in the same exact same body
You know if they actually did it right they could
make a lot of money for collectors Right, you
know like the prop replicas. I mean those things
were going crazy Yeah, well they still sell crazy
to the point where They're like $300 for the
trap on eBay because I was just looking at it.
Yeah, but They're apparently a San Diego comic
-con potentially they're going to announce another
prop Which a lot of people are saying is possibly
going to be the goggles Right because there's
no way they're gonna do a pack because that would
be thousands of dollars like no I would absolutely
love and It'll never happen, but I would love
a Geiger meter. I would love one Like what he
was looking for with slime? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah Yeah, right, you know, I would love
I think that's what it's called. It was called
the Geiger meter, wasn't it? Yeah, something
like that. But yeah that that that I would love
that, you know, not necessarily um You know the
goggles I don't know. I guess maybe the goggles
are a little bit more iconic, you know with it
but Don't make me just me personally Cuz Egon
used it and I was always an Egon fan You know
that's that's probably why I like the pke meter
More than the trap aside from the fact that the
trap didn't work when I got mine. That's that
that's a whole nother story, but You know, but
yeah, there's there's no way that they're gonna
do a proton pack if they did that thing is gonna
cost 500 bucks And then it probably wouldn't
work anyway because they didn't, you know, they
just rushed it and didn't product test it. Very
possible. I mean, they're doing the hoverboard
from Back to the Future, which I have one of
them pre -ordered. I'm excited about. Their props
typically look pretty good. I mean, they're not
terrible, but. They look good, but at least in
my own opinion, just seeing like your videos
and Pia's videos and everybody's videos who buys
these prop replicas in hand. Cuz you and I went
through that whole thing, shittin' thing with
the ghost trap. In hand, I'm sorry. Those prop
replicas in hand suck. In my opinion. They just
do. Well, for the price, for the price, it's
definitely... Yeah. They're definitely way overpriced.
When I got the PKE meter from you, Paul, it's
amazing. I love it. Oh, I did. I mean, PKE meter,
I think, was an absolute home run. Oh, yeah.
The trap, the trap... It looks like a pile. I
wouldn't pay almost, you know, 150 bucks for
that. Yeah, it's it's it's I mean to me I don't
see why it's I mean I could probably justify
the price that the pke meter was You know for
the trap, but you know the hundred fifty dollars
or whatever was just it was a little bit too
much I think I mean I don't know I like it, but
you know I'm so so so put off because of the
problems that I personally had with it. It's
so hard for me to - It was $130 new. Okay. So
I just went to their website. Um, but like -
like the - the - the freakin' Stay Puft Marshmallow
Man, I mean, how - they have chemists and stuff
there. They're a big corporation. They wouldn't
know that putting white foam in this kind of
paint would turn it yellow. I mean, isn't that
their job? Here's - here's the thing. Their -
their explanation for that was that they used
a chemical in it that - Again yeah, it's it's
it's hilarious because you're like what if they
have people that you would think so that That
you would think that they would have some kind
of chemical person that would be like um This
particular substance when it interacts with air
Causes it to turn yellow you think yeah, you
would think but no You know that that's that's
that's the other Maddie collector debacle that's
going on that You know if you got if you got
the the staple of marshmallow man And realistically
any way that you bought it There there's a there's
something for you Yeah, I bought it on ebay.
I bought it on ebay I could very well just claim
that I bought it at san diego comic -con in person
Because the other ways to do it is if you ordered
it off the website after san diego comic -con
Then you go in Or the customer service guy will
go in and find your order number boom there you
go you get you get your refund or You could have
pre -ordered it to pick up at San Diego comic
-con and Not risk it potentially selling out
That would also have an item number attached
to it now After all those were already sold whatever
extra that they had they sold to the general
public at the convention itself So I could always
just claim that I went in there after the sale
at at San Diego Bought it in person. I you know
anybody could really do that now. I would not
get the same amount that I paid for it But I
would get reimbursed something the my biggest
problem that I have with the whole thing is They
already have the mold. Again, they already have
the mold for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Which
is where all the cost is. Yeah. Make a new one
without the fucked up material that you used
before, and sell it again. I'd buy it, I would
send mine back, and I would buy a new one. Has
the yelling gotten a lot worse since the last
video you showed? It has. Yeah, it has. It's
not even direct sunlight, right? Oh, no. It has
nothing to do with sunlight, Bob. It's air. Oh,
okay. One of the chemical substances used in
the foam for it, when it interacts with air,
causes the yellowing effect. That's what they
actually discovered. So unless you keep it in
a vacuum, and I don't mean like a Hoover, I mean
like in the vacuum of space, you are screwed.
It's gonna turn yellow at some point in time.
Now, some people's is worse than others, and
things of that nature, for whatever reason, I
don't know. But, um, you know, everyone's like,
you know, I'm gonna return it, you know, because,
what's the point? You know, at some point in
time, it's gonna keep disintegrating, and then
it's just gonna crumble. Well, yeah, so that's
why, is it, like, starting to harden up any?
Or is it still that squishy? I mean, can you
tell the difference? I honestly do not bother
touching it. Ever since it went up onto that
display shelf that I have up there with all my
Ghostbusters stuff, I pulled it down once. And
that was a couple weeks ago when the neighbor
kids, my next door neighbors, two boys came over
and they were playing in my room because I'm
the coolest adult they know. They came in and
one of them actually is like nine years old and
loves Ghostbusters. Fucking kid was quoting stuff
from the Ghostbusters that I forgot about. He
saw the Ghostbusters thing, loved it. I pulled
down StavePuff and I was looking at it and honestly,
I don't remember. Nothing, you only pulled down
StavePuff. What's that? Just nothing. Go ahead.
I was making a bad joke. Right after that, I
put it right back. So I have no idea how the
foam is lasting in it or whatever. I'm sure that
at some point in time, it will disintegrate.
So I could send it back and I could get a refund
for it. Then I don't have a, you know, however
big, I don't even remember how big it is. It's
22 inches tall. Then I want to have a 22 -inch
Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in my display. Would
you have to return the display, the background,
or is it just the figure? The background, the
diorama, all that stuff, as a thank you, Maddie
Collector has said that we only have to send
back the actual figure. The diorama and all that
stuff that came with it, we get to keep. Yeah.
Thank you. Thank you. I wish someone like NECA
or Helly... NECA had! NECA had them! I know NECA
had it, but what I'm saying is now at this point,
since Mattel has all but fucking abandoned the
shit, I wish NECA would just swoop in, pay them
god knows how much money for the damn license
or whatever, and just actually do decent fucking
figures. Yeah, and instead of selling like, you
know Egon with the stack of books that are only
like waist -high to him instead of You know taller
than he is a couple more books on that, you know
mold Yeah, it was funny. I was I was looking
on the the Maddie collector form I was going
through and people were bouncing around their
different ideas about what their thank you would
be and the Louis Tully figure Came with a jar
of popcorn. They were actually saying that it
would be cool if that jar was just simply repainted
or something was put in it to replicate the mood
slime from Ghostbusters 2. And I was like, you
know what? If they did that, I would actually
be happy with that. Yeah, that would have been
cool. Because that would have been something
totally new as opposed, you know, and I mean,
well, not totally new. I mean, obviously it would
have been a reuse of something, but... It would
have been more just survival. It would have made
more sense, I mean, because, obviously, that
jar of mood slime in the courtroom scene in Ghostbusters
2, that was in a jar. It would have made more
sense. And it would have been a hell of a lot
smaller, and it would have been the size of a
quarter, or a 50 -cent piece. I mean, it would
be smaller than Slimer, but I would like it a
hell of a lot more than a glow -in -the -dark
Slimer. to which I already have, like I said,
three other Slimers. Yeah. Or, I know this will
never happen, but or, you could have a big Hasbro,
Mattel, Transformers, Ghostbusters crossover,
and take Revenge of the Fallen Ejector and pump
slime into him. The fucking toaster transformer.
That'd be fine. I mean, that's what happened.
People have talked about, you know, the potential,
you know, toaster. But again, that would have
had to have been something completely new. Yeah,
something completely new. And they're not going
to do new shit because they're done with the
fucking line. Exactly. I have a question, Paul.
Yes, sir. On the national state puff, is it the
body and the head or is it just the arms and
the legs? Looking at it right now. Because I'm
reading here where it says that And no one seems
to have the body or head. Yeah, the head and
the body seem okay. But that's where the paint
is. Right? Like his tie and stuff? Right. Isn't
that what they painted? Or is it the white paint
on the... You know what I'm saying? It's like
the chemical, the yelling was the chemical reaction,
right? Yeah, it was the chemical reaction of
the foam. On the paint. the paint or the foam?
I don't really think it's all... No, it's not...
The white's not painted. The white's not painted.
It's on... Imagine if it's on... Like your shoulder,
Bob. Right. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is
all white when it's produced and then it's hand
painted. Well, I was just trying to figure out
what parts were actually yellowing because it's
like... People are here saying that the body
and the head... haven't yellowed yet it's like
the arms and the legs yeah it's the arms and
the legs where there are no paint taps yeah so
there's no additional paint tap that's why i
don't understand why it's a chemical reaction
if where the paint actually is because the chemical
they used to create no mike i know what bob's
saying do you know what i'm saying it's like
where the paint actually is the same chemical
the same chemical was used on the rest of the
body so why is the body and the head not yellowing
and only the arms The materials are the same
in theory. The same materials were used to create
the mold for the head, the legs, arms, body,
all that stuff. But for some reason the body
and the head aren't having the same adverse effects
that the arms and legs are having. Where the
actual paint is... It's not yellowing, but the
legs where there's no additional paint, it's
just the white foam is oxidizing or whatever
you want to call it from there. Right. I don't
know. I have no idea. It just makes sense why
the head and where all the paint apps are isn't
turning yellow. It's where the paint isn't is
where it's turning yellow. You would think it
would be like a uniform thing. Right. Yeah, but
this is what this is what this is what confused
me like when I first noticed this I was looking
at it, and I'm like it's yellowing at first I
thought it was maybe some light But I'm like
but the backs the backs of my legs on my figure
started yellowing first I'm like that doesn't
make any sense because he's inside the diorama
There's no light on the back of his legs. It's
it's it's it's it's shadowed basically because
of the way you know, the boxes, because the box
is pretty deep and the figure is inside it. So
the back of them stays in a shadow area, and
it's not, you know, completely... So I'm like,
why the hell is it yellowing back here? You know,
so I'm like, that's when I initially was like,
there's no way that this is caused by sunlight.
You know, and then people were like, maybe it's
from the humidity, where do you live? I'm like,
I live in Southern California, it doesn't get
that humid down here. You know I mean maybe they
had a Lewis Tully wannabes just piss all over
all the toys before they sold them Honestly,
you know I mean part of it is you know I don't
want to get rid of it because like I said I love
having a big giant stay pup marshmallow man there
No other state pups have been even close to the
right size To look good in my it you know for
my in my opinion There have been stuff that you've
had to settle for but you know this I like I
like those scale of this one, but You know and
I've kind of just Written it off is he's a roasted
marshmallow man That's how that's how I kind
of look at it. I wonder if you could repeat it
that Could you paint the yellow like to repaint
it white you could but again the one of the biggest
problem and somebody mentioned this by painting
it you would create a hard outer surface and
on the inside It you know it would still be foam
and it would still be good. You know possibly
degrading And at some point in time, you may
just have nothing but a pile of dust on the inside
of a painted shell. Yep. You know, that if you
touched it, it could crumble. I mean, I don't
know. Oh. Another thank you, Matty, while we're
on this. Your Glow in the Dark Ghostbuster Slimer
thank you gift will come in a poly bag. Yes.
Yeah, they're not going to be packaging. So it's
going to get broken, transport, you know, the
arm's going to break off or something. Probably
because so what Bob meant to say there was another
fuck you Maddie. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh God Yeah,
I think after this being the 20th episode of
team bottomless I think we just need to find
other topics and not keep going like this can't
be the podcast that is the weekly Maddie bitching
session because Anything that company does is
gonna make us pissed Nothing that they do whether
it's a dramatic price hike whether it's you know
Mechaneck looks great looks cool looks awesome,
but Anything that that company does essentially
either Paul or myself cuz Bob not so much Bob
only cares about Ghostbusters It pisses me. I
just don't have room to buy them, right? There's
no way I could I could get into that even though
I watch all the reviews that everybody do right
I'm just a fan from afar Yeah, well, the thing
is, it's like, anything that that, you know,
every piece of news that has come out of that
company since I started noticing them back in
2009 has just been, what the fuck is wrong with
you people? That's the first, any time I read
a piece of news that has anything to do with
Mattel, it's like, what is wrong with you? Ugh,
God, I don't know. It's impossible to figure
it out. Yeah, it's one of those never - Conundrums,
I'm but I'm annoyed because I actually watched
pixel Dan's review of metron with the Mobius
chair And I actually really want that and the
only way that you can get that is if you are
a clubby turn love or club Well, I'm sure it'll
be on eBay eventually. Yeah, and I'm gonna pay
twice I Have a question. What's up with Maddie?
How comes there WWE? Figures aren't going up
in price. They're still the same They must have
a bigger fan base that they can do that No, because
they're still 20 bucks. Yeah But yeah, but see
the thing is the reason why the the dramatic
price hike for Masters is because according to
toy guru this year The four horsemen who sculpt
the figures are putting twenty two dollars worth
of paint apps into the figures So next year depending
on what? Yeah Wish that was somebody going over
to Maddie to see what the hell is wrong with
those people. But anyway, um, I think Paul I
could bloom up Maddie click Mattel's home base
is right here in El Segundo, California and that's
45 minutes from where I live. Yeah, did you ever
get that straight now with all your phone calls
and all that about your trap? No We never bother
doing anything. No, they there was there was
three or four different times. I called Right,
you got a peep or a boo or whatever. Yeah, I'll
be but I'll be da ba da ba da Every single well
the first time I was you know, you know If you
don't hear from us and you know, we call us back
Called back and they're like there's no record
of this of you of you actually calling us, right?
Like are you serious? Because I've waited a week
And now there's no record of me even calling
you a week ago. And they're like, no. So they're
like, OK, well, we'll have to create a ticket
for it. And I'm like, OK, fine. Do that. Call
back in a week. Because they're like, if you
don't hear from us in a week, call us back. Call
them back. When I called them back, they were
stupid again. And I was like, listen, it's coming
to the point where if I want a refund on this,
I won't be able to get one because you guys keep
telling me to call back and blah, blah, blah,
and it keeps pushing this off. And my refund
is only available from the date of purchase.
It's like a 30 -day money -back refund or something
like that. Right, right. And I'm like, it's coming
up to the time where I'm not going to be able
to get that from you. Yeah. And then the final
straw in the whole thing was they're like, oh,
well, do you just want a new one? And he's like,
sure. Okay, well ship us the defective one and
we'll ship you a new one And then and but he
was like, wait a second. So I have to pay Shipping
to ship a defective product back to you went
all over their fucking website It says if you
have a defective product, we'll take care of
the shipping right specifically Digital River
specifically told him you have to pay for shipping
to the ship back the defective product Which
is so fucking stupid. Yes that was the end of
it really and that's really why you never heard
anything else about Paul's ghost trap because
he said fuck it I'll just keep the damn thing
and he eventually fixed it I had to open it up
myself and I found what was wrong with it the
gears weren't lined up properly and one of the
wires it comes in two halves so when they put
you know the bottom half and they to put the
top half on top of it, there was a wire that
was not in the correct position and they actually
half severed one of the wires that was going
down. So I had to replace that. I lined up the
gears and now it actually works. You know, but
it was a gigantic pain. I mean, Mike was there
with me when I was trying to fight with the damn
thing. You know, it was it was a gigantic pain
and I was like, there is no reason why I should
have to do this. Right, you know, so ridiculous.
Yeah, you know Hasbro may have their issues But
Mattel has way more issues. Yeah It's not even
Mattel. It's Maddie collector. I know it's bad.
It's like there's a completely separate division
It's still a division of Mattel though. It's
a division But it's like managed by monkeys or
something. Well, yeah for collector figures.
I mean They should think about how Collectors
think you know what what they want not just slapping
crap together Because like looking at it if you
look at their if you go online and look at the
Dark Knight stuff that they had out the two -faced
Figures and stuff. It's the same body as Peck
from Ghostbusters. Yeah, it's just different
head. It's the exact same body Yeah, so it's
not like they had to go and retool and make a
whole new body. They just used the generic body
that they used on they're batman stuff right
right and it's the same figure as the the thug
you know figure it's the same body right not
exactly i'm so glad i'm on a toy collecting uh
it's horrible well i love i love but they make
it hard do you give it credit for the voltron
ones the the lions that they're coming out with
did i do what with them do you got to give them
credit for that are they doing okay with it Mean,
you know $65 for the black lion I can understand
because it's bigger. It's huge. I mean, yeah,
and the whole thing is gigantic Yeah, but like
you were saying like in your view with the legs
not working, right? You know, it's kind of back
ass words, you know pushing the button to get
it into Line form and not into leg form, right?
It's it's ass backwards. I give them credit for
Coming up with something Guess you know as an
as a collectible figure you know an adult collector
line. I really think that these should Replicate
what the masterpiece Voltron did years ago? You
know with the chrome paint and the painted details,
and you know the super articulation things that
things of that nature you know It you know well,
and I'm probably going to mention this in the
next video in in June June 15th or something
like that the green lion comes out and The green
and red I see is being pretty pretty much the
same the yellow and the blue I think are much
better than the red and the green line Just the
gimmick is not as bad because it forms a different
part of the body I guess but you know and and
I'm gonna mention this in the green lion video
that That you put a gimmick into a figure that
The original vintage line never had. Yeah. You
know, Maddie Collector, you know, Hypes Up, you
know, all these things. They don't put gimmicks
in any of their other figures. You know, they
refuse to do it with the Masters of the Universe
stuff. So... Oh, no, there's gimmicks. Well...
But they're true to what the old toys used to
be. I'm sorry, not action gimmicks. Right, right.
Not action gimmicks, which is what this is. You
know... For an adult collector, this is something
that shouldn't have that kind of gimmick because
like I said the vintage figure did not have it
We're not you know, we're not Remembering the
the cool transformation auto gimmick that the
1980 Voltron toys had It's it's not in existence.
So it's stupid to put it in here. You should
not have that You should just put more detail
more paint applications get somebody who actually
knows apply stickers correctly and not crooked
and Make a better figure. That's more articulated
Yeah, especially at that price because yeah for
almost $300. I mean you're looking at what 55
50 50 55 65, you know, you're looking at you
know 250 bucks now the $65 figure that does I
can understand black lion $15 of it goes towards
the three three -quarter inch figure that comes
with them You know that that's you know that
that's included in there So really you're only
paying $50 for the line, and that's the you know
so you got to subtract $15 off of all of these
Because so it's like $45 $55 or with no 35 35
45 And then 50 I think How the actual lions break
down and then you add their pilots with them
and that bumps the price $15 initially when it
was first reported or when you first signed up
for the club Voltron the You you were signing
up for two different things. You're signing up
for the Voltron figures and the the the Lions,
you know, you're signing up for the the the pilots
and the lines They were two separate things.
You were gonna have to pay separately for them
They I like the fact that they included it because
knowing them and how they screw up fucking shipping
and things of that nature You know, it's it's
conceivably possible that you'd be paying shipping
twice Yeah, you get the line in those the figure
would be in Canada or somewhere or in New Mexico
and then coming back to you probably Alright,
well, I think we've bitched long enough about
Mattel and Maddie collector Yeah, hopefully this
is the last time we have to talk about this fucking
company because I'm sorry this company The only
thing that they actually do decent and handle
correctly is Barbie Everything else they always
fuck it up and that's that's Mattel though. That's
not Maddie collector It's all fucked up. That's
that's the point. It's all fucked up. Well Mattel
handles Hot Wheels Hot Wheels Barbie and cars
and cars. No, Matty Collector takes care of that,
too. But no, like the cars that you buy in store,
it's Mattel. Well, right. Yeah, that's true.
Well, I'm trying to find my stuff. There's also
car stuff on Matty Collector, though, as well.
The only thing that's not a part of MattyCollector
.com is Barbie. That's the only thing that's
not a part of that website. Everything else that
Mattel does is a part of that website. Well,
not hospitals, though. Hot Wheels isn't on Matty
Collector Whatever anyway Whatever there's no
whatever involved whatever anyway. It's it's
fucking late, so That's gonna do it for the 20th
episode. We will Probably see you next week.
