Hey, this is Greg Berger and you are listening

to the Geekcast Radio Network. Today on episode

86 of the Cinema Geeks, we break down the five

actors who may play the part of Han Solo, we

discuss what's in store for the real Han Solo,

Harrison Ford, we react to a few comic book film

castings, and in our main attraction we give

you a double feature with our thoughts on Ten

Cloverfield Lane and Zootopia. All that and more

coming up on episode 86 with the Cinema Geeks.

That's right, it's episode 86 of the cinema geeks

and I am one of your cinema geeks Kevin optimists

solo and joining me today is hard candy Mandy.

Hello. Yo, what's up? And it's just the two of

us You and I There we go cue the Will Smith But

Dan is out today feeling a little bit under the

weather So we will give him the week off and

it will just be Amanda and myself today giving

you the movie news and reviews News and reviews

news coming at you and reviews But we hope Dan's

feeling better so you can be with us next week

We got some fun announcements to make next week

about some Future content for the rest of the

year here on cinema geeks that you guys should

be looking forward to I think Dan's lying. It's

st. Patty's day. He's super close to Boston Then

don't lie the flu means he's getting his wrinkle

Dan. Don't lie. Yeah, probably not Maybe some

of our other cohorts in the podcast community

like me yourself included, but Dan's no no Dan

no lie and if for those of you that were missing

our episode last week we apologize with the Film

Fantasy League draft record that was supposed

to go out live last week was delayed a little

bit as we waited for some hooligans to give us

their names for the picks that they had to do

offline that took a lot longer than anticipated.

Well, you'll get a double feature. Not only are

you going to get a double feature in our main

attraction in this episode, but you're going

to get a double feature this weekend with two

episodes from The Cinema Geek. So you'll get

this episode. as well as the entire fantasy film

draft episode so everybody can see the results

from season one, the final standings, and the

live draft as well as the results from the offline

waiver wire pickups for the teams that didn't

have enough names on their list. Am I bad for

all the F -bombs that are dropped? Because I

got super serious and I got really mad. You never

have to apologize for the F -bombs here. Okay.

Good to know because I drop them frequently.

All right, so starting off this week We'll take

a few minutes to look at some news stories that

have come out recently that are all geek related

So let's start with what we teased in the opener

apparently the list of actors has been narrowed

down to five for who will play the young Han

Solo in the Standalone Star Wars film based on

Han Solo. So I don't know how well you You'll

know these names, but we'll throw them at you

and see what your reaction is. We have... We

haven't seen Hail Caesar, so that's not gonna

help us, but a guy named Alden. Aaron Reich from

Hail Caesar. We got Taryn Edgerton from Kingsman

the Secret Service. Love him. We have Emery Cohen

from Brooklyn. I like that dude. We have Blake

Jenner from Everybody Wants Some, which is coming

out later this year, so I can't speak much about

him. And Jack Reiner, who is in Transformers

Age of Extinction. The Marky Mark one? Yes, so

those are the names being thrown out for Han

Solo Obviously you might not be aware of a couple

of them, but out of the ones that you do know

any preference I'm gonna say either Taron Edgerton

or Emory Cohen Yeah, I think, and the article

kind of suggests this too, that it seems like

it would be hard for Taron Egerton to do that

because we have some Kingsmen sequels coming

out. He's involved, apparently, with one of those

800 Robin Hood films that's coming out. Oh, shit.

So I don't know if he'd have time for that or

not. Emory Cohen has the kind of right jawline.

I don't see him as sarcastic enough, though.

I think he could be. I see Taron Egerton had

that sassiness in Kingsmen. But he's too classy

to really be Han Solo. Well, good to see that.

And of course the Han Solo film is being directed

by Phil Lord and Chris Miller who have had a

run of good luck in recent years. Scheduled to

open May 25th, 2018 so we only have like two

more years to speculate. I'm sure they'll cast

someone about six months from now and then we'll

have like a year to wait for other cast members

or characters so I'm sure this will just be one

of many reports on the Han Solo film. Speaking

of a character that Harrison Ford does not need

someone to stand in for him apparently, we've

had room rumors upon rumors upon rumors of another

Indiana Jones film and for the better part of

the last year year and a half the name was Chris

Pratt that was going to be thrown around as far

as the next Indiana Jones and apparently there

is not going to be a new actor cast because it

was announced this week from Disney that not

only will Steven Spielberg be back to direct

the next Indiana Jones, but Harrison Ford will

be reprising the role himself. So what do you

think about Old Man Indiana Jones? Old Man Jones.

Are they gonna act like Crystal Skull never happened?

Or is this like a continuation? That is yet to

be determined. I'm sure they'll just ignore it.

They won't either acknowledge it one way or the

other. But what do you think about Harrison Ford

at his age? Can he pull off Indiana Jones in

a film that... hearkens back to the good films

of the original three? Or do you think this is

going to be another Crystal Skull debacle? I

was actually talking about this with somebody

else the other day, and I think the main worry

that I have is, does this motherfucker hurt himself

like every year in everything that he does? Only

once. The Millennium Falcon fell on him. It's

just once. He crashed his fucking plane. He did

do that, yes. That's true. And broke his foot.

I mean didn't he like get smashed in the face

or something too? I'm sure we'll get some type

of story of him Accidentally whipping himself

in the face with Indiana Jones's whip or something

or falling down a step or something I don't know,

but he's fucking old. He is old, but do you think

he can pull off Indiana Jones if he stays? Healthy

he has done it so many times. It's probably like

getting back on a bicycle, so I would assume

yes Yeah, I think as long as they treat it the

right way and kind of frame it around him. If

they can pull off what they did with Star Wars

and kind of do what they were able to do with

Han Solo in that film and Harrison Ford at that

age, and if he's given it his all, I think he's

got one more in him. I'm gonna hold hope that

we can get one more good Indiana Jones film before

Harrison Ford's no longer physically able to

act. So I'll hold out hope for that. We're just

gonna keep the geeky news going. Let's move from

Star Wars... Indiana Jones right into Star Trek

and we're talking about Star Trek Beyond Now

I'm not sure if you've seen this or not and I'm

interested to see I haven't heard much about

Reactions from the internet, but maybe that's

because I'm not on it a whole lot, but What's

that? I'm not on the news cycle for all the thousands

of tweets that go out about movies So maybe people

have talked about it, and I just missed it, but

apparently And remember, Star Trek Beyond is

slated for July 22nd, so that's not too far off.

That's less than six months away. And we've heard

of different films having problems and different

things like that, but I don't know if I've ever

heard of this happening within six months of

the film being released. And the thing here is

that we're not just talking about reshoots. They've

added a cast member... to the film six months

away from its release. Shouldn't be like post

-production by now? They have cast a new person

to be a part of these reshoots that they're going

to be adding into the film that was not even

in the original shoot. So it's currently undergoing

reshoots and they've added a cast member for

those reshoots. So that's confusing but uh and

I'm not gonna even attempt to pronounce the person's

name but apparently They're going to be some

type of character high command of the Federation

and apparently this actor is in the sci -fi channels

the expanse in Mass Effect 2 Mass Effect 3. I

don't know Yeah, apparently should have some

voices there show ray ah gosh Lou I probably

butchered that name So apparently a couple people

are familiar, at least with her voice, or if

you watch the sci -fi channel you might have

seen her. But yeah, she's going to be joining

the cast as High Command of the Federation, and

we're adding that character in six months before

the actual... Film is released and the article

states that you know it could be a simple matter

of plugging a plot hole Or maybe we're just using

a character to provide some type of information

for the audience So maybe it'll be something

small and that doesn't seem shoehorned in but

this is literally the definition of shoehorned

in this is We're done with our film something

happened. We need something doesn't make sense

We need that you need to add an actual actress

into the mix so Amanda does this have you worried

about Star Trek Beyond or do you think it's no

big deal? I want to say with how awesome it's

gonna be it shouldn't be any big deal But it's

kind of scary that they would they would take

it risk like that It just seems kind of I don't

know if it's necessarily that risky I think it's

more problematic that they needed to do this

like what was wrong with their original plan

the original cast the original story that they

would need to Insert something like this. Let's

hear how to pronounce her name How to pronounce.

Shura Agdashlo. My favorite actress is Shura

Agdashlo. Alright. Shura Agdashlo. So we'll have

to see. We'll have to see. It'll be interesting

now to watch that film knowing that she was added

in way after the fact to see if that... makes

it seem, like we said, shoehorned in or if they're

able to pull that off in a natural way. So you'll

have to let us know if you're worried now about

Star Trek Beyond or if you already were because

I know a lot of people were already freaking

out about the Beastie Boys, etc. But I guess

this just adds another log to the fire for people

that are trying to burn this film alive. Alright,

moving on from Star Trek, let's just do a whole

bunch of comic book stuff. So let's start with

Spider -Man and the Spider -Man, I don't know

if that's going to be the title of the next Spider

-Man film. Not that anyone can try to keep all

of the Spider -Man films. straight, but apparently

the first leading lady has been cast opposite

Tom Holland, who obviously will be the new Spider

-Man, who we will be seeing in Captain America

Civil War, as the internet excitedly blew up

this week with the new Captain America Civil

War trailer that showed Spider -Man. I haven't

seen it because I'm trying to stay away from

it, but when he gets his eventual standalone

film, the Spider -Man, we will also be seeing

actress singer Zendaya. Zendaya. Thank you. I

should have gone to you immediately as the DJ.

I play your stuff on the radio. And she has landed

a role in John Watt's Spider -Man reboot. Don't

know who she's playing yet, but apparently we'll

be seeing, what's her name? Zendaya. Zendaya

and Tom Holland playing off of each other on

the Spider -Man film. I don't really like it,

I don't like it. Don't like it why? She just,

is she supposed to be MJ? She's supposed to be

who? MJ, Mary Jane. It says they have no idea

what she's gonna do. No idea what her character

is. So I don't know. So we got Tom Holland, Marisa

Tomei, and now... Zendaya. Zendaya. All right.

Let us know what your thoughts are on the additions

to that cast, or even if you know who Zendaya

is, because I didn't until just now. All right.

Also, another casting, which might have more

people interested because they're gonna know

who this guy is. Moving, switching, I guess you

could say, from... One franchise to another,

J .K. Simmons will be Commissioner Gordon in

the Justice League movies. So I know a lot of

people really loved his work as J. Jonah Jameson

in Sam Raimi's Spider -Man films, so now he's

going from J. Jonah Jameson to Commissioner Gordon

for the Justice League movies. Amanda, excited?

Good? Bad? What? Bro, I don't really like it.

I think that he just should have stick to J .J.

and, uh... Mean not that he's he wouldn't be

awesome, but why why pull him into another little?

comic book universe here Well, I don't I think

he's I think he's good with that sort of character

type You know the side supporting. He's going

to be the same though. He's going to be the exact

same. I don't know if he'll be the exact same

I think J. Jonah Jameson and Commissioner Gordon

are quite different characters. Him playing it's

gonna be the exact same fucking thing. No he's

gonna be channeling that whiplash guy He's a

commissioner now And he's still gonna be a hard

-ass. Yeah, I guess I always viewed J. Jonah

Jameson more comical, though, and Commissioner

Gordon more serious. So we'll have to see. And

for those of you that haven't been keeping track,

Justice League Part 1, currently scheduled for

November of 2017, and the cast now includes Ben

Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gail Godot, Jason Momoa,

J .K. Simmons, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher and

that is also being directed by Zack Snyder like

Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. So are you

excited for Justice League movies in general

or do you want to wait and see what happens here

first with Batman versus Superman? I've always

kind of been excited about Justice League before

it was even going to be like a live -action movie.

I watched a lot of cartoons and stuff along those

lines, so it was always pretty intriguing for

me to see those characters. I've read a few weird

little comic books out of some cereal boxes,

and I liked it. I've seen some really cool animated

stuff for it, so it's always kind of been on

my radar. But as far as the live -action movie,

I want to love it. So I'm just hoping it lives

up to my height for it anyways DC wasting no

time and getting right to a Justice League film

not taking the Marvel route here and building

everything up They're going straight for it I

don't know why they don't call this one Justice

League part two and just call Batman versus Superman

part one because it seems like everybody's in

that one anyway But we'll have to wait and see

I know this one's not necessarily a movie conversation,

but it does have to deal with comic books and

other things that you watch comic book related.

So those of you that are keeping track, we have

got news as far as when the actual TV series

for Luke Cage will begin. So we already knew

that Daredevil Season 2 was coming out real soon

and now we know that Luke Cage will be on Netflix

starting in September. Is this the same guy from

Jessica Jones? Yes, it is. So we get Daredevil,

which is premiering basically as we speak, March

18th, and Luke Cage, September 30th. So are you

excited for Daredevil Season 2 or are you excited

for Luke Cage or both? Luke Cage was a pretty

complicated character, I'd say, in Jessica Jones.

You know, I liked him, I thought he was cool,

you know, cool powers and stuff, so it'll...

I think it'll be fun to see him in his own little

world. I think it'll be weird to see him without

Jessica Jones, though. As far as Daredevil goes,

I still haven't finished the first season. By

the time this goes live, there will have been

already, like, half of the population that has

binge -watched the entire second season. Alright,

so you have to let us know which one you're more

excited for, Daredevil Season 2 or Luke Cage?

One of them you have to wait a little bit longer

to see though. So that does it for the news for

this week. We're going to take a quick break

and when we come back we're going to give you

our double feature, a main review of two films

that are 2016 films that we haven't had a lot

of chance to talk about yet, Ten Cloverfield

Lane and Zootopia. And then we'll also give you

a few nuggets as far as what we've been watching

and some shorter blips as well. So stay tuned.

We got some movie talks and movie reviews coming

up after the break. Hi, this is Greg. This is

Chuck. And this is Dan, and we are Talking in

Circles. Because the world needs another podcast,

we are here as Geekcast Radio's newest edition.

And as the title says, each week we get lost

in conversation about a wide range of topics,

including movies, comics, games, art, TV, and

even occasionally sports. We play games and discuss

pivotal topics like who would win in a fight,

the Kool -Aid Man or Tony the Tiger, and examine

the hot button issues of the world of Geekdom.

We keep things fresh by taking timeless topics

in new directions. We are simply three friends

having a fun time talking about life's most fascinating

foibles. Stay connected with us every Tuesday

on iTunes or at GeekCastRadio .com Hey guys it's

Dr. Masolo and Hard Candy Mandy and we just wanted

to let you guys know about another podcast out

there that we both think you would all enjoy.

It's one of both of our favorite shows to listen

to and it's none other than the True Bromance

podcast. True Bromance is a movie podcast hosted

by longtime friends Hiro and Barry and if you

like to smile, laugh, and just be genuinely entertained

while listening to movie talk then this is definitely

the right show for you. Each week, the guys break

down a recently released movie, and not only

do they tie in the movie that week to the beers

that they are drinking during the show, but they

also tie it into a real fun top and bottom five

list associated with that movie. It's a blast

hearing both sides of these lists, and it definitely

makes them unique amongst all other movie review

podcasts. So we definitely want to recommend

all of you guys to go check out their show. Just

search out the True Bromance podcast on iTunes,

Stitcher, and all other podcast platforms. And

if you listen via iTunes, do us a favor and leave

them a five -star review. And don't forget to

let them know that the Cinema Geeks sent you.

Now back to the show. Do you see how your patience

paid off? Alright, thanks for sticking with us.

It's time for our double feature main event main

attraction We're actually going to be giving

you some 2016 movie reviews here and we will

start with Zootopia So I will let you go first

because I might have a slight rant that I go

on here in a little bit So I'm gonna let you

give your opinions first, but what was your initial?

Well, first of all, what was the build -up for

Zootopia? We talked about our most anticipated

films. I don't remember where Zootopia ranked

for you We got a lot of animated films coming

out this year What was your interest or excitement

level for Zootopia in relation to what else is

coming out? I wasn't really super excited I don't

think I was crazy stoked I thought it looked

super cute awesome idea didn't really know what

the execution was gonna be like this is another

one where my friend was just like hey let's go

see Zootopia and like oh cool let's do it so

it wasn't like I was dying clawing my way to

get to the theater to see this but I'm glad that

I saw it I think that it was a really cute experience

and um I don't know. Do you want me to go in

depth with it and get my thoughts out there?

What are your initial thoughts on it? What was

your reaction as you left the theater? What did

you think about the film in general? I thought

it was super cute. I thought it did throw a twist

at me that I didn't see coming, which is rare,

especially in animated movies. I think that the

animation was superb. I think it was really awesome

to look at. And some of the animals were super

cute. No kitties, though. Really upset about

that. There was no just kiddies That's a different

movie coming out later this year So I was okay

with it, but I felt for the main character like

right away, you know I was like completely vested

like yeah, let's do this little bunny We're gonna

get through this journey together. So, you know,

I was vested right away and I was into it. I

don't think I ever got super bored or anything.

I wasn't Blown away. I would say I thought it

was it had some super good elements to as far

as like teaching properties go for children and

and some Say I guess it went dark a little bit

a couple of times, but I think it was a good

teaching tool to you. So Overall pretty nice.

All right, did you? Because this is a Disney

film did it appear to you as a Disney film, or

do you think it's something unique that they're

doing compared to a lot of their other stuff?

I mean, I know they have stepped off the beaten

path a little bit in recent years with Wreck

-It Ralph and some things like that, so it's

not all just Disney princess films like we got

used to for a long time. Is this something that

is an interesting direction for you that they're

going in, or did it seem like it wasn't Disney?

What was your kind of reaction with that? You

know, I really didn't get a Disney feel from

it. I don't think that I would have right away

said, this looks like a Disney movie. But I think

it had some elements that you could say were

Disney -like. I couldn't pick them out though

myself. I don't know. I really don't think it

had much of a Disney feel. Yeah, I think it's

definitely a unique unique take for Disney something

you don't necessarily expect from them almost

felt more like the As far as the premise goes

it feels something more like you'd see out of

a DreamWorks film And but execution wise I think

it's more on pair on pace with like a Disney

or almost even like a Pixar film I guess in a

way, but Here's my take on this number one. I

think it's super cute Alright, it is visually

appealing. I think the animation was fantastic

Alright, they they did a great job building this

world creating this universe and introducing

us to all a whole variety of different characters

that you know Maybe you would be interested in

seeing more of this or more of that or kind of

the different groups and the different Sections

of this world. I think they did that. Well, I

think the voice acting is pretty fantastic I

don't I don't know if I'd say phenomenal, but

it's definitely above average. I thought there

was a lot of standout voices in this. I think

that, you know, you do have a story that can

speak to multiple different levels, you know,

kids, adults, et cetera, different thematic stuff.

So, I mean, I think it has all of that going

for it. You know, the music was fine. It didn't

necessarily, there wasn't a bad thing. I don't

know if it really stood out that much, but it

was fine. So, I mean, a lot of things good about

this. It was funny. It had some humor. It had

some, like you said, some darker moments. guess

with me though I'm not the reaction that this

film is getting is insane this has like a 99

% on Rotten Tomatoes or something which I get

that because it'd be hard for someone to review

this negatively even if you don't say like this

is a 10 out of 10 you're probably gonna find

this above average so I get the 99 % on Rotten

Tomatoes but I am hearing crazy crazy talk when

it comes to this film out of a whole lot of different

movie reviewers. People are saying that this

is the best animated film in decades. People

are saying that this is the best Disney film

in decades. People are already putting this on

their top 10 list of 2016 films and already claiming

that there is probably no way that this won't

be the best animated film of 2016. Well, they're

on crack. Can we just pump the brakes a little

bit, guys? I think that's... that has to be like

a reaction that has to be something that we're

like just in the moment I think if you take a

step back take a little bit of time digest this

a little bit more I think we'll realize that

that's maybe a little bit going too far I just

I don't necessarily think that this is something

we should be going that crazy for it was good

it was good on almost all levels but to call

it a masterpiece or to call it You know better

than anything Disney's done or especially like

even for people to already be saying that it's

going to be the best animated film this year.

This year is a loaded year when it comes to animated

films. We have a lot of heavy hitters out there

that we're still going to see. We have Finding

Dory. We have Moana. We have The Secret Life

of Pets. I mean there's probably a bunch that

I'm not even thinking. Kubo and the Two Strings.

Even like the smaller film like The Little Prince.

I'm sure there's going to be some other stuff.

Sausage Party. There's going to be a lot of things

and I think it's a little premature to already

be crowning this. you know animated film of the

year or to even say that this is an automatic

entry into your top 10 I don't get it I don't

think it's I mean I maybe I got that with some

people when they'd said that about Inside Out

last year I don't think this is on that level

as far as that unique and the stuff that they're

citing about it that is so makes it so worthy

I'm just not understanding maybe I missed something

but Yeah, I get that it appeals to both adults

and to children, but that's not something new.

Yeah, it's not unique at all. I mean, maybe back

in the... I think that's been happening forever,

but there's been so many films that have successfully

spoken, so many animated films, excuse me, that

have successfully appealed to both the young

demographic and adults. There's a ton of films

that have adult humor or adult lines or adult

things that kids aren't going to get that the

adults are going to love and the kids are going

to love because it's fun or funny or whatever.

We can stop putting a gold star on movies. for

doing that. That's not an achievement. That's

something that's pretty easy to do, actually.

I mean, the balance might not be easy, and sometimes

you might sway too much one direction or too

much in the other, but films have been doing

that for a long time now, so let's not make that

as some epic achievement. You know, I might say

that Inside Out almost swayed too much to the

adult side. that maybe some kids would have been

left out, but a lot of other films have done

both. The Lego movie did that. Wreck -It Ralph

did that. There's been a lot of movies that have

done that in not just recent years, but going

back through history. So I don't see that as

like a crowning achievement for it. The other

thing that a lot of people are saying is that

a lot of people are separating this into two

parts. They're separating it into the movie up

until the press conference. If you will without

spoiling anything and then they're talking about

the press conference onward as almost the second

half or the second movie and In doing so they're

going crazy about the second half and there's

talking about how The second half has so much

thematic resonance and it deals with so many

different real -life elements talks about racism

talks about police Brutality not necessarily

police brutality, but the police force's part

in kind of forwarding racism or unequal treatment,

etc. It's talking about women's rights or feminism.

It's talking about stereotypes. All these different

elements. And I get that it can be seen in all

those different ways. Which half did you prefer?

Did you prefer more the introduction of the bunny

character and her desire to be on the police

force and her introduction to um what's the the

wild character the wolf and kind of her journey

to try to become the first bunny cop or did you

like it more after the twist without giving it

away but the whole predator and prey angle the

second half which did you like one half better

than the other you know I don't really know I

think that the press conference her reaction

during the press conference was a little unexpected

but I kind of got it and it kind of hurt my heart

a little bit but I don't know I think I liked

the before the press conference. I think I liked

her journey to becoming the first Money Cop.

See I wanted to see because I felt like I was

the only one because everybody is going ape shit

bananas about the second half and how great it

is and how thematic, how many different things

that you can draw from it and how once that press

conference happens everything just elevates and

this that and the other. I like the first half

better. Liked the development of the first half.

I liked the kind of there's a lot of nods to

classic filmmaking in the interaction between

the between I can't remember name but between

bunny and and wild like their whole the whole

Introduction what's that the bunny in the Fox

keep on the wolf the bunny in the Fox but the

introduction to those two characters and kind

of how they learn about each other and how they

go from complete opposites to being you know

somewhat buddies and partners like there was

a lot of things I thought that were done really

well there and I actually think that the rest

of it was somewhat predictable and contrived

outside of her reaction you might not have seen

her reaction coming but as far as the twist as

far as who was in who was the bad person and

this that and the other i thought all that was

kind of cliche and predictable i didn't i was

not surprised at any of those reveals and i didn't

necessarily find those that uh that great like

everybody else, but maybe I don't want to say

that any of that's bad. I'm not necessarily pooping

on this movie at all. I think it was a really,

really good movie, but I just think we need to

pump the brakes a little bit of some of the praise

that is getting lauded on this film. Without

getting into spoiler territory, was there anything

else that any other reactions or different parts

of this film? How did you find the humor? What

did you think about all the different little

nods? They, you know, obviously we have the little

godfather. Part we have the the rodent village

we have you know introductions into a couple

different areas of Zootopia is this a world that

you want to see more of through sequels or spin

-offs or something like that or Did you think

you got enough just in this film? Yeah, I don't

think they really delve too deep in Any one of

the worlds I think that there was You know some

shots and some cool scenes that kind of went

pretty fast through each one of them. I don't

think they spent too much time in each one of

them, but I think that the animation style was

really awesome and on point for each one of them.

I had the little godfather rat thing. I thought

the animation of just him blew my mind, like

his little fingertips and how detailed everything

was, was so perfect. And then his daughter that

looked like Snooki, who was really legit. You

know, I really don't... know if I need a sequel

from this, but I think one would probably work

just because they could go so many different

ways with their partnership and all that good

stuff, or even a spinoff TV show or something.

Did you have a favorite scene or character or

bit that they did throughout the whole film?

A lot of people are pointing to the sloth scene

as a favorite scene. Did you enjoy the DMV scene?

Did when I saw it in the trailer the first 800

times Other than that I really didn't give a

shit about the sloth scene because I already

seen it so many times It just wasn't cool for

me anymore. It didn't have as much weight behind

it. I think that The movie had a very different

feel from what I got from the trailer, but I

was surprised by that Surprised in a good way.

Yes. I do want to say that you know, I talked

about the voice acting a little bit I wanted

to give a couple shadows because the people that

I'm hearing get credit are not necessarily the

people that I think should I thought that I actually

thought Bellwether Jenny Slate was real good

and I Especially thought and now a lot of people

are doing this isn't unique but Jason Bateman

is Nick wild I thought was fantastic. I thought

I actually did not even realize half of these

people were who they were when they were voicing

it I wasn't trying to pay attention to who was

doing what voices and I thought a lot of them

blended in really nicely But honestly, I think

my favorite voice of the whole thing was it was

It wasn't Idris Elba as funny as that is but

it was Judy Hopps's dad. I Thought his name was

Stu Hopps. I thought and I'm not I'm not familiar

with this Actor but Don Lake is the voice I for

some reason thought that that his part as the

dad was was quite funny at the bunny farm and

stuff like that. But man, you had a lot of people

in here. J .K. Simmons, you had, obviously, like

you said, Idris Elba, Tommy Chong, Octavia Spencer,

Alan Tudyk, Shakira. And then, of course, Mr.

Big in those Godfather scenes was voiced by none

other than Maurice LaMarche, who is brain from

Pinky and the Brain. So I thought that was phenomenal

as well. But yeah, the voice acting was real

good. Any other thoughts on Zootopia and where

would you put this one, one through ten? Man,

I don't think I liked it as much as everybody

else did, I guess. I think it was mildly okay,

but I wasn't in love with it. I don't know. I

thought you liked it a lot coming out. I liked

it, but I... No, I'm not saying that's one of

the greatest Disney movies ever. Well, I wouldn't

say that either. I think it's a good film. I

can give my grade first, will you come up with

a number, but I guess where I'm pausing is I'm

not necessarily putting this at like a 9 or a

10, where I think that quite a few people are

putting an AA plus type material. I think this

is like a 7 out of 10. I think a 7 out of 10,

that's above average. That's a good film. That

means, you know, it's probably in the top. you

know, 30 films I'll see this year maybe, but

I don't think I'm gonna go as far as saying it's

top 10 material, or I don't even think you can,

people that are putting this ahead of Lego movie,

or Wreck -It Ralph, or Inside Out, or Frozen,

or some of the Pixar stuff, I don't think that's

legit. I think we need to pump the brakes on

that. Maybe I'll have a different reaction on

the second watch, and maybe I'll pick up more

from it. I thought it was a good movie, but I

don't even think there was a climax in this movie.

There was no, it was a, general storytelling,

but there was no building up to... Maybe people

are saying that the press conference was some

type of climax. I don't find that as a climactic

event. It was kind of... It was a turn. Yeah,

it was a turn. It was a turn and a shift, but

that doesn't necessarily equate to a climax.

And so I just... I felt like I was missing, like

there wasn't that punch. There wasn't that climax.

There wasn't that jaw -dropping part to this

film that just had me... some type of revelation

or something like that. So it just didn't quite

have that magic that a lot of these other animated

films do. It was good. It was above average in

all aspects, but for me it's a seven out of ten.

I'll give it a five and a half. Five and a half?

Yeah. Your reaction coming out of the theater

was like eight level, and now you're at a five

and a half. Because I've had time to sit on it.

You really didn't like it at all? That's, like,

barely above average. That's barely passing.

Dude, I don't... Yeah, there's not a lot of memorable

crap from this. Maybe it's been too long since

we've watched it and my excitement level has

super dropped. She does have a very bad memory,

guys, so she might not even remember what movie

we're talking about right now. Alright, so a

five and a half for you on Zootopia. That's super

low, I think. I think I'm... I would be... Shut

up! Think I would be having the same reaction

if everybody was giving it a five and a half

I'd be like nobody's high enough on this film

But instead people are giving it nine out of

ten. I think that's too high I'm right. I'm at

seven That's where we all should be. Let's let's

meet in the middle Hitler fuck. How does that

make me Hitler? Everybody needs to be the same.

No, not everybody needs to be the same, just

everybody needs to agree with my score. So seven

out of ten for me for Zootopia, five and a half

for Amanda. You guys will have to let us know

where you think it is. It's doing phenomenal

at the box office that broke a record for opening

weekend and it's doing phenomenal as far as all

the reviews go as well. So we'll have to see

if all these people that are putting it at the

top of their list are going to stay true and

still be there at the end of the year or not.

I think that's a little crazy. Alright, let's

get into our second film and let's talk a little

bit about 10 Cloverfield Lane. Amanda, what was

your excitement level going into this one? Anticipation

level? What did you think? Wasn't crazy excited

for it. I did not see Cloverfield. That found

footage, shaky cam shit will make me barf, so

I never even attempted to watch it. I was curious.

I'm curious to see if it was connected, how it

was connected, how this one would do. It's so

ambiguous, you really don't know what's real,

so I was excited for the suspense of it. Not

one of my most anticipated movies of this year,

by any means, but coming out of it, it blew my

fucking mind. I think this one surpassed my expectations

tenfold. I had no idea what to think going into

this film. I didn't know I've never seen Cloverfield

either. I'm not a found footage fan I mean, I'm

fine. I'll be fine with watching it I guess at

some point, but I wasn't jumping up and down

about it, but honestly The only the thing that

was basically driving my excitement for this

is all about John Goodman. I was all excited

to see John Goodman anytime he appears in a movie

I'm usually excited even though it's not always

the greatest but I'm a big fan of his and I thought

the trailers were very much intriguing I'm also

obviously a fan of limited cast and more like

enclosed limited settings as well. One reason

why I like Zephyr, Zachariah, Ex Machina, and

some other things from last year because it really

gives you a chance to kind of look into characters

and their motivations and their actions etc.

So I was excited for John Goodman and the setting

but I had no clue what I was getting myself into.

I didn't know if it was connected to Cloverfield,

if it was going to ignore it, if it was going

to be a prequel, a sequel, I have anything to

do with it. Nor did I know what Cloverfield even

is in the first place. So I really wasn't sure

what to expect But I think I was I think it exceeded

my expectations, too I don't think I'm gonna

be quite as high on it as you are Maybe I might

be a notch below but I definitely was surprised

coming out of it as to what I saw I have one

quip about the film that we'll get into a little

bit later but so coming out you said it exceeded

your expectations what what did you like most

about cloverfield 10 cloverfield lane and then

why did it exceed those expectations i think

it was all the crazy layers that were just piled

into this movie um there's nothing that's clear

-cut really in this and as soon as you think

you have a handle on what's going on it throws

you something else to make you wonder like was

I right is this really what's going on and I

think that the suspense just really kept you

on your your toes and right from the get -go

there's an event and the sound that occurs from

this event, I think scared the shit out of everybody

in our theater. It scared the shit out of me,

that's for sure. Yeah, and just it set the tone,

like you better be on your fucking toes for this

movie because you don't know when or what is

coming. And I just really, really liked all the

watching all these layers unfold and build up

again and then unfold some more and There's just

so much to take away to think and be like, okay

did this this happen? None of it is really Completely

put out there for you. So I like the The suspense

making you wonder feeling the tension that was

there. I really enjoyed that I think the the

performances really drove all of those things

home and made it super believable and really

drug you along for this ride? Well let's set

the stage a little bit for those people that

might be as confused as we were going into it

as to what we were getting into. This movie is

basically a three -person story so we end up,

it won't go how you end up there, but we end

up in a bunker and in that bunker we have the

character of Howard played by John Goodman, we

have Michelle, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead,

and then we have Emmet, played by John Gallagher.

So it's basically a three -person story. I mean,

you do get glimpses of a couple other people

along the way, before, after, et cetera, but

it's mainly these three. And what we have is

they're all trapped in a bunker. Well, not necessarily

trapped, but they're all in a bunker, and John

Goodman's character has basically told the other

two that... The rest of the world has been destroyed,

they're contaminated, nobody else is living or

non -contaminated, and that they have to stay

down there for their own safety for probably

at least one to two years. And then you're set

up with the scenario that the other two have

to decide if they can trust him, if he's right,

if he's wrong, if they should stay there, if

they should escape, and how they're going to

deal with each other and how they're going to

deal with him as somewhat of a unstable person

based on clues that they get along the way did

you have a character that kind of spoke to you

more did you relate to any of them more or you

know character you like character you didn't

like or what did you think about the fact that

we only got these three individuals it's kind

of hard to because I have heard a couple people

say that they felt like the one character Emmet

wasn't needed I think he was needed. I think

it's kind of hard to distinguish who is your

favorite because they were all very much needed.

Their interactions with each other and as a whole

made it work. I don't think that it would have

worked as well without another person involved,

another piece of this catalyst. No, I agree.

I think he's vital too. I really did enjoy Emmet.

I thought that he was a good part of it, and

I felt for him the whole time. At first I was

like, is this dude sketchy? Like, can we trust

this guy? What's going on? And later, you know,

throughout the movie, I really kind of came to

realization that I was on his side too. So, and

what comes about with him, you know... lot of

stuff you don't see coming as well, and I think

that the unpredictable nature of each character

really pulls the story along too. How well do

you think they set up or kept the mystery alive?

Like how, without getting into spoilers, I guess,

how, because obviously one crucial part of this

whole Film is giving us John Goodman's character

and then presenting him in a way that is ambiguous

that he's a character that You are interested

in and you think maybe this guy's right and this

guy's maybe kooky or whatever But he has their

best interest and he's just trying to take care

of them against the totally insane. I'm a psychotic

killer and I have you in a bunker and I'm going

to have my way with you type thing. How well

do you think, number one, that they set it up

from a story standpoint, but also how well do

you think John Goodman walked that line and balanced

those two different... Did you like the character?

Did you dislike the character? How did that work?

I think it was impeccable, really. I think they

kept the mystery and the suspense throughout.

I don't think there was ever a lull. that I think

that like I said earlier they give you a little

bit to try to help you tie things in and Kind

of put the pieces together, but then they will

throw you a curveball That's gonna knock all

that down and make you question everything that

you just thought you figured out and I think

that his behavior his his actions his mannerisms

really kept him ambiguous. You don't know if

he's a good guy or a bad guy. You don't know

if he's a little kooky or he's batshit insane.

And I think that he did an awesome job walking

that line and keeping that alive. I think, too,

that they do a mixture, which is also interesting,

of some more obvious heavy -handed hints as well

as some real subtle touches to that character.

I mean, obviously we're introduced to him in

a very menacing way. we see, we don't even see

him, we see his legs as, you know, a big figure,

as John Goodman is, but you see his legs standing

over this basically helpless woman who is handcuffed

to, you know, the bed. And just from the angle

that they give you from his feet, basically,

it's kind of a heavy -handed way of saying this

guy is, you know, dangerous, not to be trusted,

this is a... intimidating force in this whole

thing but then you get some subtle touches like

you get the fact that they don't even mention

it or don't say anything about it but towards

the end where he goes from a grisly mountain

man to a clean shaven John Goodman in no time

at all like it's just like there's all kinds

of little reflections of this character in different

ways you know he is watching the old movies or

the old TV shows, his cooking for this group,

his defense of her character when she's touched

by Emmett and how much he tries to maybe draw

that clear line that he's not gonna hurt her

or he's gonna have to answer to him. So I mean

there's a lot of different little character pieces

I think you get without which I agree with what

you said that that it is done Pretty impeccable

John Goodman was was darn good in this film now

I don't know how much more we can get into this

without a Little bit of some spoiler talk and

a little bit about some twists and some things

towards the end so let's Kind of transition into

a little spoiler section if you don't want to

have ten Cloverfield Lane spoiled for us for

you You're gonna need to jump ahead about five

or ten minutes and until we get done with this

conversation Alright, so to start off with as

far as spoilers go and I want to kind of get

your opinion real quick on a couple different

things now obviously Throughout the film we're

putting the position as Michelle is that we're

trying to figure out If John Goodman's telling

the truth or not is the world Contagious is the

world dead or Is it safe and we've seen some

different things? All right, we've seen one person

specifically probably the best evidence to support

John Goodman is when the neighbor lady comes

Screaming and trying to get into the door and

ends up dying next to the door We also have the

pigs that are dead outside the door How did that

work for you and Did you have it figured out

before the reveal or were you going back and

forth as he's right? He's wrong. He's right.

He's wrong throughout the whole thing I was going

back and forth. I didn't know what to really

think when we saw the pigs That could have been

you know part of his game He could have done

that to those pigs, but then when that lady showed

up I was like oh shit there really is something

going on out there and It wasn't what I thought

So it was still different from what I thought

it was. And then you also had the other underlying

story of that there's evidence of some other

girl being in this bunker at some point with

John Goodman. There's the word help scratched

on a window. There's a picture of this girl who

he introduces as his daughter, yet Emmett says

that that's not his daughter. That was a girl

that went missing. How did that play into the

part? Did you think that was a necessary storyline?

Did it add another layer or did you think that

that could have just been thrown out? No, I liked

it. I thought that it really bumped up the creepiness

to John Goodman's character. And more questions

that you're trying to figure out throughout the

whole thing, too. Why was there someone else

down here before? Is he a psychotic killer and

he is trying to do it again? Was it a completely

separate incident and that just happens to be

why he has this bunker? So it does add a lot

of things to that. Now, if I told you, and I

don't know how much you know about the production

of this, but this has been something that was

originally going to be something else. Alright,

it originally was not going to be a Cloverfield

movie. That was not the title of the film and

in the original story It does not end like it

does in the film What did you think about the

final act? where we are introduced to her escaping

from the bunker and We see evidence of obviously

this alien ship and alien life forms on earth

wreaking havoc and doing what they want to do.

Did that help you? Did it make the movie better

for you or did it make it worse for you? Like

or dislike the alien part of this film? I mean,

I dug it. I think it could have been a little

bit better. You know, well done. Do you think

the fact that it's named Cloverfield ruined some

of the suspense to whether John Goodman was telling

the truth or not? for me because I didn't know

if it was actually connected to this or or what

so I Kept wondering and I thought Cloverfield

was like some rip -off Godzilla movie, so I really

didn't make the connection between the aliens

But do you think if someone was real versed in?

Had seen the other Cloverfield and see that this

one has Cloverfield in the title that they would

be like Somewhat not buying the whole suspense

that we got from it because they know that this

is an alien story I don't know. I don't know

how to answer that. In the original story for

this, before it became part of this Cloverfield

universe and before it kind of shifted gears,

we actually have an ending that is quite different.

And it did not involve aliens. It did involve

her escaping from the bunker and surviving. driving

off into the distance and then I think she like

supposedly goes over a hill or drives to some

part and then sees I don't know if it's Chicago

or she sees some city completely demolished like

it's not there anymore everything's dead and

gone and whatever and then it fades to black

I think it might have liked that a little bit

better but I think there was kind of a hell yeah

moment when she decides to kind of take action

at the end yeah I think I'm not convinced. I

don't know how I would have ended it. I like

the sound of the way that that story would have

went Maybe in the kind of the fact that she escapes

and she realizes that hey, everything's fine.

I can breathe out here He's being a liar. I'm

gonna drive off and then all of a sudden shit

something happened that type of thing I think

that would have been cool. I don't know how I

feel about the whole alien aspect of it I wasn't

sure if I was digging it or if I wasn't it was

definitely a weird twist right at the end I guess

and kind of a slap in the face of like this is

what's going on, and then the whole drive to

Texas or do this, help us out with fighting these

aliens. That I could have maybe done without,

but I don't think it necessarily takes away from

the whole point going up to that. What was your

overall opinion as far as a score for this film?

And I know you said it exceeded your expectations,

but where do you finally land when you come to

try to score this thing? I think when it comes

to the score, I'm going to rate this pretty high.

I want to give it an eight. I just really, really,

really liked it. And before I give my score,

I just had one other question for you that I

forgot to mention since we were in the spoiler

section. But what was your reaction to our three

-person story changing and going down to a two

-person story when that happened? When it dropped

down to two people, I was not expecting that

at all. That came out of left field for me. It

lulled me into this false sense of security.

You're sorry. You're sorry. I really thought

he was going to take it and, you know, some more

crazy stuff was going to happen and they would

have gotten farther in their little plan. Was

not expecting that at all. But then when that

shift happened, it was pretty drastic. Like it

was night and day. His behavior really changed.

I was expecting him to look a little bit more

deformed after he comes into contact with a certain

item in the bunker. I was expecting it to be

even more hideous than it was, but yeah, there

was definitely an unexpected twist with that

aspect as well. But final question for you, and

then I'll give my grade, and that is if we are

ever stuck in this situation, are you capable...

of creating a spacesuit gas mask out of a two

-liter bottle and saving us. Oh, fuck yeah. Okay,

I just wanted to make sure you had that expertise

and those skills. Of course. My score, I think

I... Like I said, I might be a tick below you,

but that's more so just because of the ending.

I think I might have been able to be handled

in just a slightly different way, but I'm gonna

be... broken record I guess because I gave Zootopia

seven I think this one I'll give a seven but

I give it a slightly higher seven I'm gonna give

let's go seven and a half just so it can be slightly

above Zootopia because I think there was a lot

of stuff to delve into you said there's a lot

of layers there's a lot of stuff about these

characters that was interesting that it was the

puzzle that you were trying to figure out on

different not just the puzzle of is the world

safe or not there was a lot of other puzzles

as this are these people good or are they bad

is Emmett good or bad is John Goodman's character

good or bad Or what lay what level of good or

bad are they what happened to the other girl?

What is the world safe for now? There was a lot

of different mysteries, and I think they did

a well job a Pretty good job of balancing all

those and keeping us in suspense especially for

those of us that don't know the cloverfield connection

so positive review for ten cloverfield lane be

interested to see what you guys have to say on

that one and Then real quick to get into some

what we've been watching Amanda. We finally completed

our alien journey We had already seen alien Aliens

and alien 3 we now caught up with alien resurrection.

And what was that other one called? Prometheus

Prometheus and Obviously, we'd seen all these

before but this is a rewatch and kind of just

to catch us up because it had been a long time

since we'd seen these we wanted to kind of see

how they all compared to each other and To get

us ready for more news and rumors about the next

alien film Whatever it eventually is called I

think they've been circulating different names

for it, but what did you feel about Alien Resurrection

and Prometheus, the last two in kind of in comparison

to the whole franchise now? Which ones are your

favorites and all that type of jazz? Oh man,

I think that Alien Resurrection had a completely

different feel from all the others, but also

was a f - fun rides because of the players involved

like some of the fun ride like the same way that

like whatever freddy krueger the seventh installment

or nightmare in elm street the 18th installment

or whichever one of those had more installments

like it's fun the way final destination four

would be fun right Why are you shitting on what

I have to say? No, I'm saying that's the type

of fun you're saying, right? Like, it's just

kind of like that. It had Ron fucking Pearl in

it. Winona Ryder. Who was terrible, by the way.

She was a fucking robot. She was horrible. She's

horrible at everything. She's a horrible actress.

but it was just cool seeing some of these players.

I don't even remember who else was in it. There

was a bunch of people that, there's like some

guy who's a cop in TV shows and they're super

young. I just didn't dig the aliens in Alien

Resurrection. I thought they looked way worse

than any of the other films. I don't know. I

also don't understand any of the science of Alien

Resurrection either. No, it was weird and disjointed.

But it was fun. I thought it was... I still am

trying to figure out how you get a spot of DNA

from somebody. You're able to clone that person

out of that DNA. I'll buy that. But when you

clone someone, I'm not buying the fact that they're

also gonna be pregnant still with the same alien

baby inside them still. Like, I don't think that's

part of cloning. I think there's a problem with

a lot of the science in several of these alien

movies. There was a couple others that we couldn't

fucking figure out either. Definitely. It's kind

of a theme with this. Alien 3 had some of those

same issues. Yeah, just shut your brain off and

just take it for what it is and get down with

aliens who are eating people. So as far as the

original alien films, the four films, the quadrilogy,

how would you rank them? What was your favorite

one? Know how long it spins as we watch all these

it's hard for me to rank like We literally have

watched them within the last couple months. Yeah,

but we've kind of watched them. Boom. Boom. Boom

I don't know how to like put them together. They

kind of all blurred together for me Let's put

Kevin I have killed a lot of flippin brain cells.

All right, let me break it down. This is St.

Patty's Day. I've already been drinking alien

The original one. Alright. Alien 2. No, Aliens.

Aliens. Alright, then we have the kind of the

flip there where we have the new android, etc.

Alien 3 is the one where they're in the prison.

With all the crazy guys. And they lock him in

the door and then they let him out and... I'm

gonna say Aliens. Mm -hmm. And Alien. Mm -hmm.

that alien 3, that alien resurrection. No, no,

Alien Resurrection and Alien 3. Yeah, I think

Resurrection and 3 are definitely the worst two.

I mean, I think that's kind of a silly statement,

because everybody loves Alien and Aliens, so

I definitely think there definitely is a break

between those two and the latter two. Now, when

it comes to Prometheus, we got Ridley Scott coming

back now. We got all this updated stuff. It's

a different time. It's been a long time since

Alien and Aliens came out. We have a ridiculous

cast. If you're looking back at this, I don't

think people realize... I think people that have

not seen Prometheus in the last, whatever it's

been, two or three years, need to go back and

watch this because it takes on a different meaning,

I think, when you realize all the people that

are in this film. You have Michael Fassbender,

you have Idris Elba, you have... Guy Pearce.

Guy Pearce, yeah. You have, god, I can't remember

her name now, the main person. So you have a

lot of cool... notable names out here. What did

you think as far as Prometheus and where does

it stand up to the rest of the films? Does it

fit in that same, does it feel like an alien

film or does it feel like something completely

different and did you like or dislike it? It's

a very polarizing film. There's a lot of people

that hate it and there's a lot of people that

like it. I think that it was interesting seeing

it again after Watching the alien films because

when I saw this it had been a really long time

I don't think I'd even seen all of the alien

films so to see how it was connected back was

super cool and to to see Michael Fassbender again

as this droid was Pretty cool. Like I think that

he played that role really well Just it was I

think he did kind of take a page out of the first

couple AI's book or whatever. I think he really

was in line with that. I think his behavior really

matched up with their behavior, their thought

processes too. Right. I think that's an element

that was done really well in the first two films

that is not done so well in the other two Alien

films is the... synthetic life force, or the

AI, or the droid, or the robot. They're present

in those other films, but it's just not as well

done. I think, and I was forgetting the women

before, but Naomi, Ropass, and Charlie's Throne.

Also, so big names across the board. I'd only

seen this, I think, one time. I saw it in the

theater. We talked about it way back when. There

was a lot of debate on the film. I would suggest

this. Number one, like I said, if you haven't

seen this in a number of years, go back and rewatch

it. But also watch Alien and watch Aliens and

then watch this. because I think in the way we

did this and watching them all somewhat back

to back helped elevate this one a lot for me.

I like this one a lot more now than I even did

originally. I think it fits in perfect with those

other two films. I think there's a lot of connecting

lines there that help out and I think it was

done very well from just trying to make it fit

in that universe. pay homage to some of that

stuff, but also progress what we're doing. And

obviously, we're beforehand. I mean, as far as

the timeline goes, we're seeing the before effects.

But I liked it a lot more than I did the first

one. Did you like it more or less than you did

the first time you watched it? I think I liked

it more. I don't know what state of mind in which

I was watching this before. I remember enjoying

it, but I didn't take a ton away from it. And

I think not have seen... not having had seen

the other ones, I didn't have as much appreciation

for the connection. Well, I think it also helps

figure out stuff that if you haven't seen any

of the other alien films and you just watch this

I think there's a lot of confusion as to what

things are and what's going on I think watching

those other films helps that I think a lot of

people also have the complaint this one's probably

a little bit more valid it's almost a similar

complaint that maybe people had about Star Wars

The Force Awakens it is not necessarily the most

unique film as far as it does take a lot of stuff

from those first two alien films. You have the

robot almost playing the same role. You have

the the quote -unquote corporation as represented

by Guy Pearce's character even though it's not

necessarily about money this one's about like

you know more like eternal life I guess you could

say but so you have a lot of that you have the

the science versus the corporation type thing

going on. You have a lot of similar elements.

So I know people could be ripping on it for taking

a little bit too much from Alien and Aliens.

And I kind of get that a little bit, but it didn't

really bother me. I think it was enough. There

was enough distance because of it being so much

of a prequel and so much of a distant past that

I really appreciated it. And I think it was,

they did have some epic shots that we see again,

obviously in Alien with the. I don't know what

kind of race you want to call it, but the pilot

guy on that on that chair Yeah, I thought that

was cool. So I'm overall very positive about

this one. I'm gonna give this one broken record

I'm gonna give this one a seven out of ten. Yeah,

I think I'll give it a seven, too All right So

two seven out of tens before Prometheus and we

don't have to talk about this next one very much

because we didn't get to watch very much of it

We didn't get to we chose not we chose not to

I'd very rarely do this. I'd heard great things

about the assassin So we put it in we got it

from the vichas store. We put it in there and

We made it a half hour through and I stopped

it because that is utter garbage. It was total

shit So if you're into martial arts or there

wasn't even a lot of that I didn't got to any

of that if you're into very slow paced no, I

mean just shots and Scenes and dialogue that

make no they have nothing to do with anything

and don't seem like they're moving the plot forward

at all. Maybe this movie gets real good the last

hour, but it's not worth it. A half hour, shut

it off. That movie is absolute garbage. Unless

you are a huge fan of very slow -paced, scenic,

Terrence Malachy type bullshit, I would avoid

The Assassin at all costs. It wasn't even just

scenes. It was like scenic stuff. We're just

watching one person standing side by side. It's

not like it was pretty scenery either. Yeah,

it's like, oh, here's someone standing there.

Like the part where the kid is rolling the ball

to the other person who's talking in a way that

didn't sound like it was actually her, that was

weird. There's like the one scene where the person

was like walking in the woods with some mask

on not doing anything Yeah, I'm sorry I just

can't buy a movie that's called the assassin

where the assassin this supposed badass Continues

to do stuff in the broad daylight that apparently

is not seen by anybody Yeah Let me go assassinate

people in front of a bunch of other people in

broad daylight and then act like no one saw that

and no one cares I don't know that I was hoping

for something out of that one I went in with

an open mind and we tried we you know 15 minutes

in we're like No, we got to keep going. 20 minutes

in, we're like, no, we got to keep going. Half

-hour mark, I pull the plug. That's garbage.

I give that a one out of 10, because I didn't

see it all the way. It's an incomplete. I give

it a negative. All right, as far as stuff coming

out this week, on Blu -ray we have The Trip,

Daddy's Home, and Hunger Games Mockingjay Part

2 from last year. In limited video -on -demand

release, we have The Program, which is the Lance

Armstrong film with Ben Foster. We have The Bronze

and Krisha. And then in actual wide release,

we have, at least in some places, we have Midnight

Special. And then everywhere, of course, we have

the Divergent series, Allegiant. So out of all

of those choices, we have a stellar board here

in front of you, Amanda. If you have to watch

one of these films, Or have to buy one of these

films. Which one are you going to go with? This

is kind of hard because I definitely would buy

Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 to complete my

collection. Really wanted to see Daddy's Home.

I've heard awesome things about that. I love

me some Mark Wahlberg and welfare movies. But

Midnight Special does look pretty freaking sweet

too. So I think I might have to go see Midnight

Special. I'm going to double up on that one then.

definitely choose Midnight Special because although

I will eventually maybe see the trip in Daddy's

Home for just curiosity reasons, I don't ever

want to see Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 again,

I don't care if I ever see another Divergent

film, I'm done with that franchise, and maybe

eventually I'll see the program, but I definitely

most want to see the Midnight Special out of

that. Alright, that does it for this episode.
